Hello everybody, and welcome to True Crime Time 4 Wednesday, May 27, 2026 and I am Cindy Overton. And Woody and I were out here recording and you know, I don't know what's going on with this lately, but we just had a mishap. All measures have been taken to not mess up recordings, not get something recorded. You know, like things lost in space. Every measure has been taken to avoid that. And Woody would say a huge blessing is coming because it just happened again. Woody and I were out here recording 40 minutes into it and there was an issue and it's lost in space. The road just it honestly at this point just doesn't make sense. But we're going to roll with it. So Woody had to go to an appointment and so that leaves me with you today. So thank you all for tuning in. Thank you for listening, thank you for everyone that has purchased the live tickets. We are getting closer and closer to the cutoff time but like ticket amount but we're not quite there yet. We're going to squeeze as many chairs as we can into the place because usually the day of or the evening of something happens and people do not get to come and things happen. And so we're a little bit overselling. And if everyone's there, it will still just be a comfortable house, packed house, but it won't be, you know, obviously it'll be perfect. But then if others cannot come, then, you know, we'll still have a packed house. So I'm rambling at this point, but let's get started with some true crime time for let's get started with this day in history. So on this day, May 27, 1994, 14 year old Jennifer Lynn, who's also known as Jenny Lynn, was found murdered in her California home. The investigation came up with one suspect and his name was Sebastian Shaw. But he was later ruled out and later died in prison while serving time for other murders. So the killer of Jenny Lind is yet to be discovered, but investigators are hopeful after some evidence was re examined using modern DNA technology. So this calendar was done a couple years ago. I'm going to do a quick search to see if that DNA helped find Jennifer Lynn's murderer. I'm going to give a little bit, this is interesting. I'm going to actually give a little bit of information about Jennifer Lynn. And this was written in 2025, July 12th of 2025, it says 14 year old Jenny Lynn was killed in her Castro Valley home 31 years ago. To this day, her murder remain. Her murder remains unsolved. On Saturday night, the annual tribute concert for her took place. As the music starts at the Chabot College Performing Arts center in Hayward, these young students know that they are playing for Jenny Lynn. The number one thing that we want to continue this is we want to find the killer of Jenny. It's been 31 years now and the killer is still out there somewhere, said John Lynn. Now John is Jenny's dad and Jenny was killed at their home in Castro Valley in 1994 and he found his 14 year old daughter in a pool of blood when he came home from work. Now Jenny's mother Mei Lin says, it is hard, but it is also sweet. I see Jenny in every kid, in every child that participates in this program. Even in middle school, Jenny was already an accomplished musician. So for the past 31 years, the Jenny Lynn foundation has run a six week music camp in her honor for East Bay students. Scholarships are awarded to the top musicians. It concludes with this summer concert. We were all student coordinators in high school. It's been almost 20 years, said Gloria Zhu. And Gloria lives in San Francisco. She and her friend Felicia are Castro Valley High School graduates who took part in the program. They say this event has become an important community program. It is a safe space for students to practice music in the summer and build leadership skills. And for the East Bay community, it is a way to keep fighting for justice. Getting any information about Jenny's death would be absolutely incredible. It would bring a lot of closure and healing to the community and to Ms. And Mr. Lynn. And that's what Gloria said, who now lives in Los Angeles. In attendance was Detective Patrick Smith with the Alameda County Sheriff's office. A $200,000 reward is still being offered. Smith said as time passes, cases become harder to solve, but he is hoping that the new technology can help with new leads. We still have a lot of hope. We don't give up right now. We're still working this case. We still have our crime lab process evidence, and that gives the Lynn family hope. And we found that there are similar cases, 40 years old, 45 years old, that get solved. So we are still keeping hope that one day it is going to be solved. And so that is a little bit of information about Jenny Lind and what her parents did in their wake of tragedy and just trying to make something good out of something so very bad. And I think of all of the students that have benefited from that foundation, from the summer class, from, you know, the music and the scholarship, and I just really hits hard when families can do that in their child's name. And it would be so easy to. To not, you know, and to just wallow and be sad and mourn her forever. But when we can do like, you know, Courtney, Coco's mom did, miss Stephanie, and go out and, you know, go into prisons and talk about, you know, victims and just different things like that that happen, that is a warrior. And I know some people don't have the ability or the wherewithal to be able to do something like that. But if you. I know if in this day and age, you know, we can reach out with crowdsourcing and Just give an idea to someone and talk about it. And if it gets in the right, it will eventually get in the right hands and something good can happen if you're in the mental place to do it. And by the grace of God, I am not in those people's shoes to say that. So, whew. Anyway, prayers for the Lynn family and I pray for the murder to be solved. I'm going to take us to Biloxi, Mississippi. And I like Biloxi a lot. I spent a lot of time in Biloxi as a child. I still remember the road that my grandparents lived on. Meadow and I used to go there. Woody and I used to frequent there an awful lot. It was so much fun. But we've been busy and haven't been able to do much lately. So anyway, there was a man that was shot and killed after emerging from the Biloxi river and attacking a man at the Wool Market Saturday night. Now, Biloxi Police Department officials said that at about 8pm the department received calls about a naked man emerging from the Biloxi river and approaching homes on Wool Market Lake Road. Officials said one of the homeowners who called was not home but saw the man on their doorbell camera. Thank goodness for those doorbell cameras. Officials said the homeowner contacted a next door neighbor telling him that a naked man was on the porch. The neighbor approached the house to see if the man needed help, but unfortunately the neighbor was attacked. They said the neighbor had a gun and shot the man an unknown number of times. The man disarmed the neighbor before fleeing back into the Biloxi River. And they said a search and rescue team was called to find the man who was found dead around 2am Sunday. Officials said they made contact with a neighbor who was left with facial lacerations and bruises from the attack but was not severely injured. Officers then reviewed video from the home security system, which captured the entire incident. So that's crazy. I can't imagine just looking at my ring camera. I'm not home and there's somebody at my door. And then you go. I mean, never. What he would say. Never go and see if they need help, just call 91 1. That's what they're there for. But anyway, that's what happened in Biloxi.

Well, we're going to Kentucky. And Officials have announced human remains have been found on a property connected to the 1992 disappearance of Anna Manning. The Boyle County Sheriff's Office said the remains have been secured and will soon be transported to a forensic lab for examination and identification. No confirmation of the identity of the remains will be made until the investigation is complete and the next of kin has been notified. The Boyle County Coroner's Office responded to a scene on Spring Valley Road in Danville, but they did not confirm which case the investigation was connected to. So apparently Anna Manning went missing in 1992 near Spring Valley Road. Two people, Anthony Manning and Barbara Manning, were arrested in connection with Anna's disappearance. Anthony, who was Anna's estranged husband, was charged with murder, tampering with physical evidence and abuse of a corpse. He had previously been charged with kidnapping in connection with Hannah's disappearance and actually served one month of a six month sentence. Now Barbara, who's Anthony's mother, was charged with complicity to murder, complicity to tampering with physical evidence, and complicity to abuse of a corpse. So we will see what happens with the remains and who they identify. Obviously, they are assuming that it is Anna. I'm going to go to Conroe, Texas for this next story.

A Montgomery county man is facing a murder charge after deputies say a domestic disturbance early Monday morning ended with his mother dead and a violent confrontation with with law enforcement, according to the Sheriff's office. Deputies were first called around 5:20am to a home on Beeson Road in Conroe after a 911 caller reported that a family member was threatening people inside the residence with a firearm. Now, while deputies were responding, dispatchers received another emergency call about a nearby vehicle crash involving a man matching the suspect's description. Investigators say the suspect, who's identified as Michael Levi Flores, who's 23 years old, fled the home before crashing his vehicle a short distance away. Deputies located him near the crash scene where authorities say he resisted arrest and fought with responding deputies. And during the struggle, deputies used non lethal weapons to take Flores into custody, although it is unclear what specific methods were implemented. I don't know if a Taser would be considered that. I'm assuming it's that no law enforcement officers were injured during the incident. As additional deputies responded back to the Beeson Road residence, they discovered 50 year old Jana Flores suffering from a gunshot wound and unfortunately she was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials identified her as the suspect's mother. Now, Michael was then transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation following the altercation with the police officers and crashing his vehicle, and authorities say that he was booked into the Montgomery County Jail once he was released from the medical care and he is expected to face a murder charge. Major Crime Detectives and crime scene investigators with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office remained at the scene Monday as the investigation continued and authorities have said that preliminary findings indicate the incident was isolated to family members and that there is no ongoing threat to the public. Who the heck knows? Again, all of these things that I'm talking about happened over Memorial Weekend. I don't know why. I do not know why.

We're going to Korea and a man has been indicted for severely beating a seven year old with autism. And the seven year old was the child of his girlfriend. He chose to beat the seven year old because he didn't speak properly. He has autism. The man currently in detention is accused of beating the child and the child goes by the alias Se Yoon severely. He beat the child severely enough to fracture ribs. Prosecutors are continuing their investigation and to the child's mother on suspicion of aiding the abuse. If that man wasn't beat to death and the mother is perfectly fine and she was there, she was aiding because if someone attacked my child, I would either be dead from attacking that person or I would at least have some marks on my body for trying to defend him. And local authorities plan to keep the child at a shelter for the time being. The man is accused of repeatedly assaulting SEO Yoon at his home in South Chungcheong between July and September last year, resulting in serious injuries. Like I said before, those serious injuries included fractured ribs and bruising around the eyes. The Hong Song branch of the Daejeon District Prosecutor's Office indicted the man on charges including assault under the act on Welfare of Persons with Disability and child abuse under the Child Welfare Act. The investigation into the man began after a teacher at the kindergarten that Soyeon attended reported suspected abuse and neglect, and she reported this to the police. The police initially referred the man to prosecutors without detention last November on a neglect charge under the Child Welfare act because SEO Yoon's mother argued that the bruises were were due to a car accident. Authorities also struggled to gather evidence through interviews with the child because he does not speak well, he has autism, but prosecutors requested a supplementary investigation after taking over the case. Police then conducted an additional investigation, including a search of the man's residence and the seizure of his mobile phone in April, and confirmed circumstances suggesting physical abuse. The man who initially denied the abuse allegations during the police investigation actually changed his statement after the search and seizure, saying that this is a quote he did lightly hit the child as a form of discipline, but there was no severe violence. Police also secured a partial confession from the mother before referring the man to prosecutors on May 6. Prosecutors are also continuing their investigation into the mother on charges including aiding child abuse. The mother was referred without detention on suspicion of concealing the abuse and failing to report it despite knowing the man had assaulted her child. The child has been staying at a shelter in South Chongqing since October last year. The child's condition has reportedly, not surprisingly, improved significantly while receiving treatment with support from local authorities. However, the maximum nine months stay at the shelter is scheduled to expire at the end of next month. But the mother is not in a position to care for the child, nor should she be given back the child. So authorities have now cited concerns about repeated abuse because the mother continued to defend and stay in contact with the man even after police investigation began. And since sending the child back home is considered difficult, authorities plan to extend the shelter stay for as long as possible and arrange future housing while taking the child's condition into account. A professor at Namsol University says there is a nationwide shortage of shelters for abused children who require specialized treatment or support, including children with developmental disabilities. Returning children to their families is ideal, but in many cases conditions do not allow for that. The government needs to expand spaces that can protect children like these and that is the absolute truth. Okay, this next story is going to Utah. We have a. I would say they described her well. A short tempered woman was arrested after she strangled and scratched a child for splashing water. Her splashing water on her at a water park. I think that when you Go to a water park, you have the forethought to know that you're probably going to get splashed. Now, I understand that there are kids out there that splash and splash and splash and are kids. Kids about it and disrespectful. And we rely on parents to, you know, correct them, divert their attention. But we do not expect a perfect stranger to come in and grab a boy by his throat on the Lazy river at the Catabunga Bay Water Park. That's not what you expect when you get splashed. But Marjorie Aliprandi, who was 68, did exactly that. She grabbed a young boy by the throat on the Lazy river at the Cowabunga Bay Water park in Draper, Utah, on Saturday. Again, this is during Memorial weekend. The child had stood near a fountain along the side of the Lazy river and had splashed Aliprandi and the splash outraged her, and she then decided to put both of her hands around the boy's neck in an attempt to get him to stop spraying her. The boy told his mom what happened, and police were called to the water park and spoke with the child. The boy had red scratches on his neck and said he felt pressure when Aliprandi grabbed his neck. Now, a lifeguard at the park actually witnessed the incident, and he told police, or she told police she saw Alipranday become upset with the child and then begin choking him after he had sprayed her with the water. Alleprande was arrested and charged with one count of aggravated assault, which is a felony, and one count of child abuse, which is a misdemeanor. And she was booked in the Salt Lake County Jail. I think he was at a fountain and he was splashing the water out of the fountain while the woman was on the Lazy River. She's wet. I mean, I get it. The respect your children have to, you know, not just splash random strangers. I completely get it. No excuse for putting your hands around that little boy's neck. No way. No, no, no, no, no. No way.

We're going to West London. And parents of babies abused by a daycare worker in West London have condemned a decision to deport her after serving less than 15% of her prison sentence as horrendous. So this is a Polish citizen, Roxana Lea, and she abused 21 babies at two different London nurseries between October of 2023 and June of 2024. The offenses included punching, kicking, and smacking the young children. Lekka, who is 23, received an eight year prison sentence last September, but it has now been revealed that she was deported to Poland in February and she had only served 14 months under what they're calling an early release scheme. Once she gets to Poland or she's already in Poland, she's basically not facing further consequences. She's just out. She's done, she's carried out her sentence. However, she is banned for life from returning to the uk and that is according to the Ministry of Justice. Now Lekka pleaded guilty to seven counts of cruelty and was convicted of a further 14 and one father whose son was physically abused by her, described her early deportation as completely inappropriate. I completely agree. He is among a group of parents who told the BBC they are now demanding that child abusers and other serious offenders be made ineligible for early release.

The labor government introduced the early release scheme in 2024 after prisons basically reached full capacity. So let's get our people that are other nation citizens out of here. Let's extradite them. But the victim's father said Leka's deportation was obviously very hard to swallow. He goes on to say, we felt it undermined all that time an emotion that had gone into the trial. Preparing our witness statements and our victim impact statements, going through the trauma of the whole investigation and trial to get a sentence brought a sense of closure and we could all move on from it. But for that sentence not to be served, it was a bit of a hollow feeling and I 150% agree with that. You need to do tent cities like the sheriff in. I think it's New Mexico. I know I'm going to get that wrong. But you run out of prison space, you don't just let people out, especially child abusers. That's ridiculous. Next up is New Jersey. We have someone that has been called the preppy Princeton Cannibal killer and he was found to be not guilty by the reason of insanity and now was found dead in his New Jersey jail cell of an apparent suicide. So Matthew Hurtkin was found dead at Mercer County Jail May 8. The Mercer County Prosecutor's office revealed his death on Friday and they said that the official cause of death had not been released. But since he previously attempted to hang himself in the Mercer County Jail a week after his February 2025 arrest, I think they're trying to say that that's what he did this time. Harkin, who's 31, was found not criminally responsible for his brother's murder by reason of insanity by the Mercer County Superior Court Judge Robert Little on March 19th. This guy was a former like Wesleyan soccer player and he ripped out his little brother's eyeball and devoured it after stabbing and beating him to death with golf clubs. And they're really exclusive. Ritzy apartment in February of 2025. Harkin also set the family cat on fire after he did what he did to his brother after his horrific slaughter of his 26 year old brother Joseph. Now Joseph's corpse was found by cops lying in a pool of blood beside a bloody knife after a twisted rampage. Police officials say surveillance footage shows at Herkin's trial that he was tackling Matthew to the ground and assaulting him. They go on. They described him as they said the deranged cannibal suffered from prophetic and divine visions. This is according to forensic psychologist Dr. Gianni Pirelli, and he was found not guilty by reason of insanity. Pirelli testified that Hurtgen had been diagnosed with schizophrenia and that he believed himself at various times to be Jesus Christ or Antichrist, sometimes even God. And he believed himself to have multiple souls. The forensic psychologist Pirelli goes on to say, anytime he closes his eyes, he's seeing tremendous visions. He also believed that the world was on the brink of an apocalypse and only a sacrificial murder could save it. He was also influenced by a chapter in Swiss psychologist Carl Jung's red book entitled the Sacrificial Murder. Pirelli, the forensic psychologist, said, it kind of clicks for him and he puts two and two together. Herkin's mental health problems began when he was living in New York City in 2021. Apparently he had an idyllic childhood and grew up with his brothers in a very ritzy home, 1.1 million dollar home in Toms river before his family relocated to Michelle Moo's apartments, which are also very nice. And his family remembered the delusional maniac as a caring and loving person in his obituary. But during his later years, Matthew struggled with severe and profound mental health issues, except he expressed sorrow, remorse and repentance. In many ways very confusing to me and I my heart goes out to anyone that truly has any psychological issues. And I have a old friend that had a brother with schizophrenia and I watched her deal with him and knowing that he was living homeless and sometimes he was good, I just my heart goes out to them.

We're going to Northern California for this one. And several Bay Area animal shelters have cut ties with a self proclaimed no kill rescue in Northern California as authorities investigate allegations that dogs that were sent there were killed and buried while still being reported as adopted. So both Oakland Animal Services and Berkeley Animal Care Services have cut ties with this rescue. And a search warrant filed in Humboldt county says investigators recently recovered eight dead dogs from the rescue's property. The affidavit also says that at least one of the dogs was found dead and had recently been transferred from the Bay Area. And that Bay Area is the Rescue is about 4 and a half hours north of San Francisco. But no one's naming the name of the rescue and neither the owner nor the employees are facing any charges as of Friday, May 22. According to the affidavit taken by the investigator with the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office. Oakland Animal services also transferred 445 animals to the rescue between 2023 and 2025, and at $400 per dog, investigators estimate those transfers may have generated about $178,000. The affidavit also says the rescue received more than 600 dogs from shelters in the past year, along with an estimated $510,000 in payments. So basically, shelters often partner with rescues like this when they run out of room, which makes sense. And then of course, they pay them to take the dogs, which makes sense. And they care for them and help find homes. You get too crowded, you find someone else that promises to take care of it and you give them some money to help them do that. Well, it's not what happened. The investigation began April 22 when two women contacted the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office with concerns about a rescue taking in dogs simply for financial reasons. According to the women, they had trail camera video and they show that dead dogs were being dumped in a field. So on May 1, deputies served a search warrant seeking records, contracts, bank documents and other materials. Jennifer Raymond was one of the women who came forward, and she owns a spay and neuter clinic in Humboldt county and has had concerns about the rescue for years. She literally bought a property last year to keep an eye on the operations, and last month she told investigators she went on to the property and began digging. After growing concerned, she said, I began digging and I continued and I uncovered a dog. Its muzzle was covered in dried blood. The bodies were still warm. She goes on to say, it was gruesome. I will never forget the sight of those dogs with blood dripping out of their noses, out of their mouths and out of their ears. The affidavit states eight dogs were recovered and several appeared to have bullet holes in their heads. Now, Raymond acknowledged she was wrong. She trespassed and said she is prepared for the consequences of that. She goes on to say there are a lot of people through history who have done things that were illegal for causes that were important, and she is absolutely right. Investigators said six of the eight dogs recovered had microchips. One was identified as Zora, a dog transferred from Oakland Animal Services less than a month earlier, the affidavit states. The rescue owner had previously sent Oakland a photo of the dog on a leash with the message Zora adopted before the dog was later identified among the dead animals. We caught the rescue in a bold faced lie, said Joe Devries, who's the director of Oakland Animal Services and in the affidavit, a Humboldt county investigator wrote, it is my belief that the rescue murdered these dogs so that he could accept more from Oakland Animal Services for financial gain. The rescue owner denied killing and dumping the dogs and the affidavit, but later told investigators he was not a no kill shelter and said he did the best he could with the resources available. He said he typically used a veterinarian to euthanize animals, but sometimes shot an animal himself when immediate action was needed to prevent suffering. While the rescue did not respond to repeated requests for comment or an interview, the owner wrote on Facebook, many of you, like me, have been appalled by the allegations we've read in the media and online. Not everything we're seeing is true. A legal process is now underway to sort the facts from the lies. I have cared for thousands of animals and devoted 31 years of my life to the rescue. I intend to vigorously defend myself and continue this important work. He's doubling down Oakland and Berkeley said they will no longer send dogs to the rescue. Berkeley said it sent at least 22 dogs there since the beginning of 2025 and is still trying to determine what happened to those animals. The affidavit also goes on to say that the rescue was over capacity at the time the search Warrant was executed. DeVries goes on to say, just sick to my stomach. There's been a lot of tears shed here at this shelter. When we see a partner and we see hope, we put our hope and our trust in them and and to see it violated like this, it's just devastating. The investigation has also drawn attention from animal welfare advocates. We have contacted authorities in Humboldt county and told them that we strongly support and thank them and strongly support the investigation, said Teresa Chagrin, who's animal care and control specialist at PETA. And as of Friday, no charges have been filed against the rescue owner, employees or Raymond. Authorities said the animals remaining at the property are being regularly monitored by Humboldt County Animal Control and the rescue remains open. So on that I am going to end true crime time for Wednesday, May 27th of 2026. Thank you for listening. We will see you tomorrow.

Episode Title: Naked River Killer, Cannibal Brother & Dead Shelter Dogs
Host: Cyndi Overton (filling in solo for Woody Overton)
Date: May 27, 2026
This episode of “True Crime Time For” is hosted solo by Cyndi Overton after a technical mishap erased her and Woody’s initial 40-minute recording. Unfazed, Cyndi leads listeners through a packed and emotional episode featuring a mix of cold case updates, recent disturbing crimes, international justice failures, and a spotlight on both the horrors and the hope in true crime. The tone is conversational, heartfelt, and often incredulous at the intensity (and sometimes madness) of the featured cases.
Cyndi’s delivery is empathetic, unrehearsed, and direct. She often pauses to reflect on the emotional toll of crimes, voices strong opinions about justice (and injustice), and encourages community action and healing wherever possible. Listeners are left with both the intensity of the crimes described and the conviction that voices, persistence, and reform matter.
Final Note: The episode wraps up with Cyndi thanking listeners and promising to return tomorrow—reminding us that true crime is not just about horror, but also about hope, advocacy, and community resilience.
