This podcast off now. Thank you. Hello everybody and welcome to this episode of Real Life, Real Crime, the podcast. As always, I'm your host, Woody overton. We have Ms. Tina back in the studio. Well, virtual studio today and we're continuing the queens of digital marketing, the. The human trafficking series. And y' all stay tuned to it and please continue to like and share it. It's so very important. You missed this last time we talked and I've been doing more research into human sex trafficking. Obviously there's human trafficking, you know, people do haul people in for work or whatever. But the, it's just horrible. And there's so many stories out there, but there's not that many stories of survivor strivers, you know, and especially people. I saw one guy that was an ex, he's ex Navy seal, he's running for Congress, something, he started a charity, if you will, but he's not doing what you do. He's just trying to bring awareness to it. So. But anyway, I appreciate you being here.
Woody Overton
Yeah, we definitely, we definitely need all those, all those people on the ground. You know, each person in the, we call it the movement. Each person in the movement has a role to play. There's boots on the ground, there's awareness, there's working with law enforcement and hospitals and like the public. And then there's direct services, which is what the queens does.
Zoe Saldana
Yeah. And what, you know, the. You have such a valuable insight because you lived it. I mean you, I mean you, you were, you, your story is amazing and all the comments people put about it, etc, it's just, you know, of course it's kind of heart wrenching, but it's real, you know, and it needs to.
Tina
Be told as, as well as what.
Zoe Saldana
We'Re going to continue to tell about what the queens of digital market are doing now and everything else. So the, I don't know, I guess it's one of the crimes people just don't really pay attention to, you know, like not as much as like murder or stuff like that. I don't really know how to explain.
Woody Overton
To it until they sit until it happens in their backyard. Right when their daughter's been locked in their room for months on social media. And then one day you, you figure, you find out that she's got a new boyfriend and. And the next thing you know, your daughter's gone and you can't find her.
Zoe Saldana
Right? And see, you know, like. So it's like when I took the cold cases and I talk about them like, you know, everybody knows what a murder is, but the. Unless you're, unless you're never. Everybody knows what a migraine is, okay? And, and, but the murder victim families, unless you're going through it at that time, you don't really, really get it. I mean, you get it, you understand what it is, but you don't really pay attention to it. You know, and so that hopefully with. In the series with. We're gonna do everything that, you know, you think should be done, and hopefully I can bring a little bit to the table too. So.
Woody Overton
Yeah, there's so much awareness and, and, and I'm, I'm loving being able to tell my story to the community that I grew up with. You know, I'm a Baton Rouge girl. I went to Fun Fair park like the rest of us.
Zoe Saldana
I did too. Funny story about. Yeah, yeah, funny story. One of my Baton Rouge city's cop buddies, his dad was a Baton Rouge city cop. And they responded to a burglary alarm at fun Fair park. And that, you remember, they had a monkey in the cage there. He said, yes, they're going through. And he had his, his flashlight on. He's going through his pistol out looking for a bad guy and said that monkey jumping in a cage and, and he shot us with his duty weapon scared him so bad. The. Hey, you know what? Karen Otolano, who is a retired matron for Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office Prison, she sent me an actual article on the spot. She said everybody knew the spikes. And, and she's, she's. I. I don't know how old you are. She's probably close to your age, and she's from over there around Appaloosas, wherever it is. And she said everybody knew what it was. And then she sent me the article on, on how the. The D. A has shut that one down and a couple other established. Anyway, the, the, the articles from the Advocate from like, you know, the 80s or whatever. So the, she said, oh, yeah, we all knew what, you know, the spot was.
Woody Overton
So they didn't really know what the spot was. People had no idea the stuff that was going on in that place.
Zoe Saldana
Yeah, yeah, right. You're right. So they knew it as, you know, the brothel, whatever you want to call it. But they don't know again, like we were just talking about. They don't know and really understand the. What really goes on.
Woody Overton
What really goes on there. Like, like this story I shared about, about being beaten in front of all the girls and everybody happened to watch as some kind of lesson or something, right?
Zoe Saldana
Just, that's it. You, you get this next, you act that way, you get this, right. And I can't imagine. And then, and then, you know, you take the beating. And didn't you tell me it was after that that you went back to the same guy? Right?
Woody Overton
I did, I did. So crazy that after. Because virtually your mind washed. That's how the whole thing happens. The definition of human trafficking includes the word coercion. And it happens mentally and emotionally first before it happens physically. And so when these things happen, it's just like the next step in the grooming process. And it just seals whatever they've been doing in the first couple of steps, like getting inside your head. Then that deal is sealed when they get physically violent and create fear in you.
Zoe Saldana
Right. And I was going to say grimly, it's that cars. And so it's, it's two parts to that. Sit stick, if you will, whatever euphemism you want to use. But the, and that's, you know, I don't know. And, and so that's, I think that's kind of where we left off.
Woody Overton
I do, I do.
Zoe Saldana
So you go back to him and what happens?
Woody Overton
So I go back to him with my child. At that time I had a two year old child and I brought her there. And then about four or five days later I brought her. He came and got. My ex came and got her and I began life like I had never left. I started working in his bar room and of course there were the trick rooms in the back and there was the beatings and there was the fight. I remember one time, because I had had children, I was a little heavier and because I was heavier, he wanted me to lose weight. Well, he had his children in the same house. He had a son, a set of twins that were like 12, 13 years old. The boy was with him, the girl was with her mom and he had bought ravioli for the kids and he had bought tuna fish for me, but I didn't want to eat tuna fish, I wanted to eat ravioli, right? And so he came in and I was eating this ravioli and he beat me. He picked up the broomstick and just started beating me. And he didn't let me eat for like a whole couple of days, day and a half. But in the end I got so mad that I ran away from him and went to this other guy. Funniest story ever. Is this other guy, Jimmy Donald, the one I was talking about from the Mamu with the killing. Yes, yes. So when Jimmy got me, we thought that it would be funny. And of course, here is this endearing part. And we broke into his El Dorado and we opened up about 15 cans of tuna fish and put it all inside his car.
Zoe Saldana
Wow.
Woody Overton
Known around our circles for a long time.
Zoe Saldana
He must have been scared Jimmy not to come back after him. Right.
Woody Overton
It was kind of a thing like if you chose somebody else, then they. Other. The other characters had to respect that. Yeah, but they had to. There was a monetary exchange too, of course.
Zoe Saldana
Yeah, yeah. Oh, because they said so basically. Yeah. Jimmy had to pay him off or something. That's crazy. Basically you were an item. I hate to say a piece of meat, but a piece of meat for sale and that.
Woody Overton
And exactly.
Zoe Saldana
That's. That's. Unfortunately, that's what sex trafficking is. Right. So the. So you heard in. In your. With Jimmy now and. And what happens?
Woody Overton
Well, I'm with Jimmy now and. And Jimmy was like. Did a lot of drugs flop. Who was the other guy? James Satterley. If you look these guys up, you could probably find some stuff related to this. But they. He did. Jimmy did a lot of drugs. And so my life became this series of partying. I worked at this club run by a guy named Hunt Heavy that was in Houma, Louisiana. And I was. I was dancing and Jimmy was playing cards in the back room. And there was a lot of crystal meth came out around this time. More. So Jim and Jimmy had a lot of biker friends. So, you know. And eventually things got really, really crazy with Jimmy. Jimmy would wake up in the morning and if his eggs weren't right, he'd throw them at me and make me cook them again and again. And then I tried to leave. One time he caught me. He beat me up really badly. And then he was scared I was going to go to the police, so he handcuffed me while my. And his other girl, because he had two or three girls living in the house, would come and take care of my face and everything. So get it right until I go back to work again.
Zoe Saldana
The. That's crazy. And just the constant cycle of abuse and be down both physically and mentally to keep you under control. I guess that's.
Woody Overton
Yeah. But you know, I was a hard head and it wasn't long before I was running away again. And, you know, I didn't really have enough sense to know that I'm going to run to some help. I'm going to run to law enforcement. I'm going to run to a counselor. No, I. I just wanted to run to the next guy that was going to be. Because by this time I believe that that was my savior, that I belong. I was part of this lifestyle and kind of almost you would take pride in being part of that lifestyle. You know, like being a gangster or something.
Zoe Saldana
Right. Or being a 1 percenter. Right. A biker or whatever.
Woody Overton
Yeah. It's the same thing, same kind of content.
Zoe Saldana
You didn't really know any other lifestyle. I mean, since you were a baby and you know, what is. It's not like there was. There was a lot of help, so a lot of awareness for this back then. I mean, you went to an old school cop. What are they going to tell you in the 80s? Yeah. Yeah. Right? Yeah. You gotta do the 12 step program. Yeah.
Woody Overton
And you're gonna be fine.
Zoe Saldana
And meanwhile, you still got to eat and, and everything else. Yeah.
Woody Overton
And you still got all these demons in your head that 12 steps is not going to get out.
Zoe Saldana
Right. Wow. That's crazy.
Tina

Zoe Saldana
So the basically going from one to the next. And that just shows you, I mean, the law, supply and demand and, and how, I mean, obviously how profitable it is for, for these people to exploit women and, and crazy. So you go to Jimmy and then you had enough of him and you run again and, and, and what happens?
Woody Overton
So I run again and I run away to Dallas, Texas, and I get involved in what they call street game. I didn't have any place to go, so I jump in a taxi and I ask them to take me to the track, which is what they call the host roll, as some people call it.
Zoe Saldana
Right. It's one of the prostitution. Prostitutes walk the streets, basically. Right. Like.
Woody Overton
Right.
Zoe Saldana
Like Plank Road used to be a bad.
Woody Overton
Dallas was like a step up and there was a lot of. A lot of men, a lot of fancy cars, kind of a different type of man at that time. It was a different scene, right?
Zoe Saldana
Old boom time and all that stuff too, right?
Woody Overton
Yeah, yeah, yeah, definitely. So there were a lot of people working in the oil fields coming down there and people with lots of money. There were guys that would get off the boats and they would spend all of their money. And same kind of concept that was happening in the brothels of Louisiana, but it was happening on the streets. And then there was a lot of other stuff mixed in with that. Because that was the streets of Dallas. Harry Hines Boulevard, I believe was the name of the street.
Zoe Saldana
Yeah, I actually had an apartment in Dallas for a while. I was working all over the nation and I had an apartment in Dallas because it was close to southwest and American, the dfw. And I flew almost every day.
Tina
But the.
Zoe Saldana
When you're on Harry Hines, did you have somebody that was in control of you?
Woody Overton
What happened then? And it's kind of, kind of unusual how this, that lifestyle works. So there's all these pimps out on the street. And so as soon as you walk down the street, especially if they don't know who you are, they start like talking to you like, like, like, come on with me, baby I got what you need. That, that, that, that, you know, they start running game at you.
Zoe Saldana
Right, right, right.
Woody Overton
And. And I knew from experience, don't look him in the eye, because once you look them in the eye, they got you and they got you. And so I walked down, I walked down and I tried to work for a little while. And this one guy caught me in a bar one night and pushed me up in the wall and said, you gotta choose somebody, baby girl. Like, he's got me by his, my throat and he's calling me baby girl at the same time. I mean, it starts like right then, right? And so I did. And there's something called a choosing fee. And you have to go out on the street and make this like $1500 or how much it is and give it to him, and that's his choosing fee.
Zoe Saldana
And then, you know, for nightly, like, you don't come back with less than this amount.
Woody Overton
Right, right. And he would give you that quota every night and you become one of his family. At that time, the guy's name was Pretty Tony. He was from Louisiana. He was from Reserve, Louisiana. It was just kind of funny how, you know, we ended up together. And he had five other girls. He had a girl that had been with him for a long time that he was married to. They called that his bottom. And she took care of like all the bottom. Yeah, bottom bitches.
Zoe Saldana
Yeah, yeah.
Woody Overton
And she took care of all the business. And she sometimes would collect money from the girls when they're out of town. And we all stayed at this hotel, this motel. This motel. We all had our own room. And it's crazy. We switched nights and.
Zoe Saldana
Yeah, yeah, it did every, even like a night off or a refresher. Like in the past when they would send you out and buy you stuff.
Woody Overton
Or whatever you did, you did like we would switch nights, meaning one night was your night with him and you rode around with him and you went out with him and you slept with him that night and that was your time off. And you always got your nails done and your hair done and you know, all of that stuff was necessary to make more money. And you really got to this concept that you are a family. And like the women together, we were like sisters. We watched out for each other. And at that point I was like deep in that life, there was like, there didn't seem to be no way out. And then he too didn't. Wasn't really into the drug. So what would happen is I would drink and I would sneak like lines of coke and stuff, just. And one time I got caught doing that and there was another beating. One of those beatings like the finding myself on the side of 711 beatings. I had disappeared with the money for the night and I was out doing crack for about two or three days. He sent somebody to find me and when he found me, he brought me back to the hotel and he laid me on the side of the bed, like up against the window. And he just started beating me and beat me from my waist to my knees with all kinds of different things, belts, you know, pair brushes. And he did that. He kept me and he tortured me basically for two days. And then he let me go to go out and get his money, as he said. And of course I'm. I ran away again because.
Zoe Saldana
Right. Yeah.
Woody Overton
But in my mind it was because I was an addict because of the trauma that happened to me at 7 years old. I had this, this, these demons in my head that I had to get out. And the only thing that got them out was drugs. I was like self medicating, basically.
Zoe Saldana
Yeah. And you didn't know anything else either, Right. And that's what made you feel good and made you feel alive and just didn't know anything else. And it's so crazy, Ben. And I was wondering about when you got beat and left at the 7:11, that puts you out of commission. So that's why I thought he left you for dead. Right. And then this guy that had the sense enough to beat you in an area where it's not so noticeable to put you back to work.
Woody Overton
Right. And he thought he had instilled enough fear in me too for me to stay. But no, I always knew in the back of my head that what was going on was not where I needed to be. And I was always running, trying to find something new. And it was never there. It was only another situation just like this. Because I didn't know how to find something better for myself at that point.
Zoe Saldana
Now, did you ever get a rice situation?
Woody Overton
I was arrested 31 times for prostitution.
Richard Karn
What?
Zoe Saldana
Wow.
Woody Overton
In seven different states.
Zoe Saldana
Wow. Okay, so the next question would be when you get arrested that whoever you're with at that time come bond you out.
Woody Overton
Yeah, they come bond you out right away. A lot of times you go to. You go to work with bond money.
Zoe Saldana
Yeah.
Tina
Yeah.
Zoe Saldana
Really?
Woody Overton
You have like. Like, it's like. Was like 250 most of the time to get out of jail.
Zoe Saldana
That's crazy.
Woody Overton
2500 bucks.
Zoe Saldana
So would it be like undercover as they get you or.
Woody Overton
Yeah, undercovers. I. I'll tell you a funny story about undercover. One time I was in. Well, it was a funny story, but I was in California. I was on Van Nuys Boulevard in California, and undercover picked me up. And he had circled the street a long time, and I went to get in the car, and as soon as I opened the door, I knew that that was him. And so he opened the door and I looked and I'm like. I try to turn around and he takes off the car and he starts like dragging me. I don't know what he hoped to accomplish back then. The police did what the fuck they wanted to do, right?
Zoe Saldana
Yeah. No cameras.
Woody Overton
No cameras. So I got off. He parked the car and he started running after me. And he's running after me and he trips over a hot dog vendor. Like, a hot dog vendor. He trips over the case and the hot dog stuff falls all over. He's full of stuff. And I.
Zoe Saldana
He's really a man.
Woody Overton
I laugh. But he got me again. He was the terrible to get me after that.
Zoe Saldana
Yeah, I bet. Right? So seven states. Let's talk about that for a minute. So you go from Louisiana, and obviously.
Woody Overton
Texas, and then Dallas, and then I went to New Jersey.
Zoe Saldana
Really?
Woody Overton
Yeah. To work on the boardwalk and those casinos down there?
Zoe Saldana
Yeah, he took me.
Woody Overton
He took me to New Jersey. The last one, he took me to New Jersey.
Zoe Saldana
The one from Dallas.
Woody Overton
Yeah, that was before all that happened. So then we went back to Dallas and that happened in Dallas. And then I went to Washington D.C. really? Washington D.C. yeah. Washington D.C. is crazy. In D.C. during that time, the girls were practically naked. They got lingerie on and their butts all out. They walk in, through, in and out of traffic, and it was a whole different world. And the patio wagons come around and your guy give you $50 before you leave. And that's what it takes to get out of jail. And they pull all the girls up on the Patty wagon and you give them the $50 at the station and they let you ride out.
Zoe Saldana
That's crazy. That is crazy.
Woody Overton
Yeah. Some bad things happened in, in D.C. though. That was a, that was a hard place.
Zoe Saldana
I almost got killed one night really by somebody.
Woody Overton
Somebody that we. That I was buying drugs from and they were trying to take my money and didn't have the drugs and they got me an alley and they took all my clothes and I had to like go walk up the street naked to find somebody. But luckily it was kind of in an area where there was a lot of people I knew.
Zoe Saldana
Yeah.
Woody Overton
And. Yeah, it was just crazy times back then.
Zoe Saldana
Yeah. It's amazing that you're alive. Survivor. Survivor. Right.
Woody Overton
You know. You know, I, I know that God had a purpose for me, you know, this whole time. God kept me alive through all this madness. He kept me alive and, and for today for a time, like they say, for a time such as this. Because the time for me, what I needed all that to be able to relate to and help other survivors of human trafficking. I needed to be able to show them how to get to the other side and become a thriver.
Zoe Saldana
That's the. You needed to go through the war and all the battles, say you could be the soldier that you are today. Right. Saving people still. Five is right. And. And thankfully. Yeah. I need to look at the stats on that. I don't know if they even have them, how many you may know, like people who get killed. And I mean, I know I've, I've worked numerous cases and we call Iris victims but where, you know, where prostitutes etc have been killed and I guess they all probably had somebody that was, that was sex trafficking them.
Woody Overton
The God just saved my life in so many times. There was a time, there was a time in California and I was in Hollywood for a long time. I was in Hollywood during the Rodney King riots, but I was in Hollywood and I got in this guy's car and he pulled out a knife and he started driving and I literally had to open the door and roll out onto the freeway to get away from him. Wow. And God, you know, like, I'm not trying to, to, to be religious, but like there was something up there. It was taking care of me.
Zoe Saldana
Absolutely.
Woody Overton
And that's what brought me to my, you know, and that's how I continue to be successful, is that I continue to follow that voice and continue to want to give back and help Others.
Zoe Saldana
Yeah, yeah, I did the same thing. And it's crazy as it is. The. I tell people all the time, you know, if you. If you get that little voice in your head and telling you something's wrong, listen to it, because that's whatever DT you play it to is trying to give you a break. Right. But like, in your case, you know, and I think what I do on cold cases now and, you know, all those experiences, you come together so you can help other people and. And do more good than harm. And the. But I want to continue more of your story next week. But now I want to talk about the queens of digital marketing. Okay. I want to get more into that each week as we go through your stories, if you don't mind, so.
Woody Overton
No, not at all. You know, it's really crazy. Like I said, you just follow that little voice. And. And at the time, I work in advertising, and I had an advertising agency called Ring Lab Media, and a part of Ring Light Media is in that particular space, in that marketing space, a lot of trade shows. So I would go to a lot of trade shows, and I would constantly see women that were in a situation where they were basically being exploited. They'd have little tank tops and shorts on, or even some companies would hire new graduates just for that purpose.
Zoe Saldana
Right.
Woody Overton
And so I didn't like what I saw, so I created a professional women's networking organization. At the time, it was called the Queens of Paper Call, because that's what I do. It was very, very specific and niche. And from that, because of my history, I started collecting money for human trafficking. I started like. Like, putting these little table cards at our events and, you know, just continue. It was basically our initiative, right? And from that initiative, someone donated to us five master classes in paper call marketing that were worth like $10,000 each.
Zoe Saldana
Wow.
Woody Overton
So. And he said, could you find some human trafficking survivors to take these classes? He said, I feel like that giving people a hand up is so much better than just giving to somebody and not really putting any accountability behind it.
Zoe Saldana
Feed him. Give a man a fish eats for a day. Right. And teach him how to fish.
Woody Overton
Same concept. So I did that. And from that, we realized that the curriculum was a little bit hard and that we needed. We needed to create a curriculum that would build up to that. And so we did, and we started getting girls in. And, I mean, people started helping me. Like girls that were on queens, they was helping me with different stuff. And it just slowly started building until that was 2021. And in 20 June of 2022. I was awarded a 501C3.
Zoe Saldana
Wow. It's so hard to get a crazy story about that.
Woody Overton
I had an irs. I had filled out the paperwork and I accidentally put the name of my advertising agency on the paperwork for a nonprofit. I had to like madly go to send an overnight package to the irs. The agent that picked up the package called me personally and after hearing our story, he really loved the mission and he walked with me through the whole, through the whole thing. Like I got it in six weeks.
Zoe Saldana
Well, that. That person was supposed to be there too. God was using them. I'm not trying to make you religious either. I don't care if people.
Woody Overton
In this story. It's really hard.
Zoe Saldana
Not too much. Right. And so the, you know, let's talk about the trade shows and sport events and all that. It's a no. I, I would assume you know this, but it's a known fact like Super Bowls and the playoff games or whatever, they fly in prostitutes from all over the country.
Woody Overton
And you know, and there's, there's organizations that come specifically to those events to combat human trafficking. For instance, there's an organization called soap and I was involved in that initiative last year during super bowl where they come down and they distribute soaps with the human trafficking hotline and makeup wipes with that same number to hotels and motels to put out throughout the super bowl because they know there are going to be women that are being trafficked in those hotel rooms.
Zoe Saldana
Rooms. Right. That's crazy. And hopefully, I mean you probably never know the success rate, but if you just get one right and, but this, the difference being we used to run all the time to try to get away, but you couldn't, you didn't even know what you were running to. You and you always ended up at the same situation. But because of the Queensland digital marketing and things like soaps, they and all the world, how it's changed with social media and everything else. Now they hopefully people are being made more aware just like what you're doing now. And, and hopefully that when they want to run away, when they get the beating, if they are alive, they get that there's awareness.
Woody Overton
There's from, there's like from these organizations that are out training law enforcement and hospitals and social workers. What the signs are to the people being at these events, to the people that are FBI agents that are recognizing, rescuing these girls and connecting with the organizations that are out there to take. It really is a movement. People don't realize everything that's involved in the human trafficking movement right now. But awareness is 100% better. And then now there's problems. There's a lot of problems as it. With any movement. But it's in the, it's in the public eye now and people are curious about it and wanting, you know, to help and get involved.
Zoe Saldana
And it's, it's Really, I mean, 15 even 10 years ago, you just didn't hear about it like you do now. And I was watching, I was watching some show on Max or something like that. It was about. Maybe I don't remember which one, but it was about this ER room and this lady came in, she's dressed very nicely. She had a, a younger lady with her, dressed very nice and woman had like pneumonia or something like that. And they, the hospital worker that every time they would ask the patient a question, this lady would answer for and then she said, no, she's my boss and we work in marketing, whatever it was. And they, the lady picked up because of the training they had and went and told, hey, I believe this girl's being sex trafficked. And then they got apart and asked her, you know, do you need help? And blah, blah. So. But that wouldn't have been on TV 10 years ago. It's because of stuff like what you're doing. Yeah, that's crazy.
Woody Overton
Myself and a lot of others out there, you know, working hard. It takes a village.
Zoe Saldana
Yes. Hey, can you tell me when you started it? And I'm probably going to skip ahead and you don't say names or anything. The. So can you tell me like one of the first successes that you had and that pops out in your mind so that people can understand. So. But now we know what you went through then we know how kind of briefly how you kind of got started. But the. To. To kind of close this up for this week, let's tell them about a success story.
Woody Overton
Okay. You know, well, one of the first successes for me was in 2013 when I finally, you know, I had this back and forth addiction to regular life to addiction. And it was 2013 and I went into this program in Las Vegas and it was the first human trafficking program I had went into called Destiny House through an organization called Hookers for Jesus, by the way, which is really an interesting thing. But I went through this program and I finally sat still for a year and because I never graduated program and always leave early, always sweat. Yeah, yeah. And so I stayed there for a whole year. I graduated the program and I had computers.
Zoe Saldana
What did the program entail? Like, I mean, Self help classes.
Woody Overton
First of all, it was in this beautiful mansion in Las Vegas in the hills. A man had donated this mansion for this purpose because his daughter was killed by a pimp. And so it was there that tennis courts, they had pools, that fountain. It was just beautiful. And I wasn't allowed to get on the computer. It was very strict. I couldn't even talk to anybody on the phone without only 10 people and somebody had to watch. But it was that environment and that peace and once again, you know, the spirit that moved me inside, you know, to just really take a deep look at myself. And when I come out the other side of that, I went to work in digital marketing. On the other side. Before, I had worked in the adult industry. And when I came out of that program, I went to work in digital marketing. And that was my really first professional gig that lasted. And the treatment, you know, and I've graduated treatment. And that was really one of my first successes in my journey. And. And I was 50 years old, that was 2013. I was like 48 years old. I had been through a life of this madness.
Zoe Saldana
Right. And now you finally found what. Basically what you were looking for every time that you ran away.
Woody Overton
Right.
Zoe Saldana
And so in that program, did they teach. We're going to get into what Queens does. But do they teach you life skills or any, you know, at that time?
Woody Overton
That's another thing that helped me to bring this particular movement on, that there's not, there's money for boots on the ground, there's money to house survivors, there's money for mental health. But there wasn't really, there was not really a lot of money out, out there that was being given to organizations that were trying to propel women professionally and help them build a life outside of the life they had left.
Zoe Saldana
Yeah, because, yeah, you just, you stay and take, go through sessions and all that, you know, stay in a nice place for a year. But if you don't have that. Yeah, yeah. If you don't have a way to exist, then you're gonna fall back into what you were doing.
Woody Overton
Exactly, exactly. So for me during that up and down movement in my life, I would straighten up and I would get a job and I would work. And I had learned to do graphic design and marketing advertising from the adult side. So I drifted towards that type of work. I lived in Las Vegas at the time, so it was a lot of that kind of work in Las Vegas.
Zoe Saldana
That's where they put all the cars on the street and everything else.
Woody Overton
Yeah, yeah. So. But there's also a lot of mainstream advertising work. So I got I went to work in Las Vegas and started building a professional career and that's where it started. The industry I'm in right now, it really started with that point at 2013. I had worked in digital marketing for many years prior to that, but it was on the other side. It was in the adult space. Okay, so 2013 I went mainstream in digital marketing.
Tina
Did you know your birthday doesn't tell the whole story when it comes to how old you really are? I've learned that your biological age, basically how old your cells and organs actually are, is one of the most powerful predictors of your long term health. That's why I was so curious to try the True Age Test from True Diagnostics. It's a super simple at home test that helps you uncover your biological age and gives you insight into your risk for things like Alzheimer's, heart disease, even early mortality. I ordered it myself because I wanted a clearer picture of my health beyond just checkups. It blew my mind to learn that if your biological age is just five years older than your actual age, your risk of major illness can go up by 30 to 50%. That was a wake up call, but what really motivated me was this. Up to 90% of biological aging is driven by lifestyle. That means how we eat, sleep, move and manage stress really matters and we can slow it down. True Diagnostic doesn't just show you your biological age. You get a full personalized report loaded with science backed steps to actually improve your health over time. I am genuinely excited to see my results and make some smart changes. Maybe dial in my sleep, rethink my supplements, or just build better habits. Overall, the whole process is easy. Just a quick finger prick at home. It's easy to blame it on stress or just getting older. But what if it's not just that? What if it's your hormones? Perimenopause and menopause can start earlier than most people realize, and they can affect nearly every part of your life. The good news is you don't have to just deal with it. All right, and so you, you had something, right? You had something just besides, you know, sessions and what have you. You had something that you, you already had some experience in and you get out. Did you stay in Vegas or.
Woody Overton
I did stay in Vegas. I went to work for a company in Vegas and. And I had something else that I like to say all the time is I had transferable skills and a lot of drive. I mean, it was, it was a survival skill for me.
Zoe Saldana
Oh, I see. When you say transferable, you had to survive every night in the life, right? You had to hustle.
Woody Overton
I had to have hustle. And now I brought that hustle to my new life, as I call it, and I was able to be successful. Like I went out the gate. I was very successful working for this advertising agency and it enabled me to build up to what, 2013, 2020, we opened up Ring Lab Media, which is a full service advertising agent agency that specializes in the tribal niche.
Zoe Saldana
Wow.
Woody Overton
Successful. I bought my first home at 58 years old.
Zoe Saldana
That's awesome.
Woody Overton
About my second home last about six months ago called the Cajun Queen. It's on the bayou in Stevensville.
Zoe Saldana
And we're gonna talk about that. Yeah, that'd be awesome.
Woody Overton
Yeah, I would love that they come.
Zoe Saldana
Down and cook something for y' all.
Woody Overton
Some gumbo. For sure. I make it.
Zoe Saldana
Oh yeah. I bet you could cook, huh? Yeah, Louisiana girls can cook, that's for sure. My hat says grill. Some.
Woody Overton
Louisiana men can throw down too.
Zoe Saldana
Yeah. Yeah. When I do, I do well. But I never get a size unless I'm fine. But the. You know, thank God you're alive. And. And we're gonna scratch the surface on. And. And again, y' all ultimately with the. Even if Ms. Tina's not on one and I'm telling us a human sex trafficking story or whatever, ultimately we're gonna end every episode with the queens of Digital Marketing. The 501c. The. The nonprofit the Messina has established. And if y' all had experience with this, with Courtney Coco's mama trying to. She does it for murder survivors or victims families. It is such a pain. Of course it's red tape and government, whatever. But you. God cleared that for you or whatever deity you want. You want to give credit to clear that for you, right?
Woody Overton
I give credit for that to Ring Lab Media. That's kind of why I even reached out to you in the first place. Because currently I'm self supporting Queens. But because of the success I had at Ring Lab Media. But it's really growing and we're starting to go into treatment programs and actually be able to set up our curriculums in these programs. And I don't have money to grow anymore, so I have to really start that next level. But it's so beautiful that this company has grown to that point that we can move to the next level.
Zoe Saldana
Yeah. So the. Let's talk about that for a minute. So in Lifers, I'm telling you that like. Like I do for Lopa and we've raised a lot of money from. Over the years and. And you know, done different stuff, but the money that the. What we want to do ultimately is bring awareness to the queens of digital marketing, the. The non profit. And. And if you can donate, donate. And. And because ultimately you're saving lives. It's almost like you're a crime fighter or a firefighter life another way. But you're never gonna know about it.
Woody Overton
Victims of crime. Because human trafficking is an atrocious crime against women.
Zoe Saldana
It is. It's horrible. And they've just got a little taste to be just your story. Right. And. And. But the. You don't do it Miss Tina, for you don't do it for to you. You hope that you get a positive result but she's never going to know. You don't ever know what this person is going to do etc but you're giving them the tools at least and you give them a chance to survive or be a survivor striver and that's important. And so life is going when we'll post the links the where he can go and, and do donations and I, I don't know miss Tina exactly how you have it all set up but we'll post it and if you can get something give it and then. And we're going to bring you success stories. I know miss Tina has stories of, of people that she's helped and this is real. This is not a scheme or a Ponzi or, or whatever. I wouldn't back it. Right. But these are real people. That's what when I'm asking you all the questions about your story. It's, it's like I do on the cold cases I got. I, I think people need to get past the fact that this is not in just a new story. These are real human beings who bleed, who don't like tuna fish, who because I always ask on my cold cases with family members what was their favorite meal. And then the reason I asked that is because you know why that means this was a real person they ate. Right. And, and you, you know it's real. These victims are real. And whatever. For whatever reason they got into it then in a lot of them it's, I mean a lot of stories are just like yours. It starts with the childhood abuse and stuff like that. But whatever the reason is doesn't matter. But. And, and it doesn't matter. The narcotics use, the, the all that is part of the deal. That's not that you self medicating. That's right.
Woody Overton
Of the trauma that they received and more people. I mean I know people are sick of hearing people talk about trauma. I hear, I hear it all the time. But you know people like every trauma is not to blame for everything but there are some really deep psychological traumas that can drive your life to messing it up your whole time. You know like building it up and messing it up. I call it burning up my life. I would, I would work so hard to build everything up and I would get triggered. Something would happen and I would get triggered and I would end up using drugs and I would not show up for work. And then it was escalate and snowball and, and it wasn't. I'm not saying it wasn't my fault because I made the decisions to do what I did.
Zoe Saldana
The trauma is part of the cycle. You weren't broke out of the cycle yet. And then you, you thank God when you did and you had to place the magus and. But you had the skills. And then the. From previous from marketing and what have you. And then my daddy always said when I asked him how he did what he did right. And then all the kids and everything else, he said look, you got it or you don't. And thank God you had it and you were. You've ever flip all that into being driven to be. Be a success and thus ultimately ends up queens of digital marketing. But real quick, the when donate and I think it's important because I don't ask people to donate lightly. But when they donate and I know we'll get into this more in depth. So you said you've been financing this yourself. And when they donate, what is an example of what some of the funds would be used for? Something that's.
Woody Overton
It cost us $2,000 for each girl. And that includes a computer, a desk, a chair, their Internet and it's a couple of textbooks and it's the orientation and it costs $2,000 plus it also includes a $500 stipend either to train in our call center program, it's a one month training or to fund their ad budgets when they graduate out of the media buying course. And so yeah, it's $2,000 total for one girl. And so we kind of just chip away at those girls. Yes, we have overhead costs. We have to have teachers and people like that. But we keep it real slim. I personally don't take a salary. As I said, I personally fully support queens.
Zoe Saldana
Right.
Woody Overton
Y' all, I need some help. It's hard to keep pushing this forward by myself.
Zoe Saldana
Well, we. And it's again so on average just 2,000, you know, per victim to give them a chance. And then it's more. That's not like you said that you've been finding yourself. That's not overhead, that's not your Internet, that's not whatever. And in time spent and what have you, $2,000, y' all. And now you know, you can't go to.
Woody Overton
If you click the button, there's an opportunity to sponsor a survivor and then 100 of your money would go to that. Yeah. So I'll give you the link that you can include on the, on the content. Yeah.
Zoe Saldana
And we'll start sharing that everywhere and we'll put an actual Put it up in it to all the different social media.
Woody Overton
Yeah. I'll create a special campaign for you guys.
Zoe Saldana
Great.
Woody Overton
And, and earmark. And then also it's 100 tax deductible because we are 501c3.
Zoe Saldana
Right.
Woody Overton
So I mean everybody needs to have.
Zoe Saldana
Absolutely, Absolutely correct.
Woody Overton
Take care of all that. We send you a receipt. We follow up at the end of the year, every year and send you out the documentation that you need to file for your taxes as well.
Zoe Saldana
That's right. And, and did I misunderstand? You said there's like. Of course you wouldn't know the name or whatever but if you, if you sponsor someone like that then you get proof. Not proof but like updates on how well they're doing or how does that work?
Woody Overton
We put you on our mailing list and in our mailing list it talks about how the organization's doing. Like survivor stories in there. If you follow our social media, there's a lot of survivor stories on there. We'll snippets and we, we did a vocal test, voice testimony from each one of our girls as they graduate. They give us permission to use this and they tell you what Queens has done for them.
Zoe Saldana
That's awesome. And we want to share those too. I know it's on your platform but the. I think maybe if you'll pick one.
Woody Overton
I'm glad to share those with you. With you guys for sure.
Zoe Saldana
And then because that would be a cool episode too this to like introduce like yours like and I don't know how detail they get in the store, whatever, that doesn't matter. But you gotta put the human face on these victims. This is a real nasty ass crime. Pardon my French. But it's just bad. And, and I understand law, supply and demand and sex being, you know, prostitutes being old professional, whatever, but not, it's just not this, it's not right.
Woody Overton
And there's so much more than what has been presented. Like what people see on the surface tells a different story than what's really going on behind the scenes. I mean you see girls out there and you think well she could leave. She's just walking around, she could leave. But her mind has been conditioned to the point that she has a psychological cage around her everywhere she goes.
Zoe Saldana
