My name is Mackenzie and I started a GoFundMe for the adoptive mother of a non verbal autistic child. The mother had lost her job because she wasn't able to find adequate care for this autistic child. So she really needed some help with living expenses, paying some back bills. So I launched a GoFundMe to help support them during this crisis and we raised about $10,000 within just a couple of months. I think that the surprising thing was by telling a clear story and just like really being very clear about what we needed, we had some really generous donations from people who were really moved by the situation that this family was struggling with.

Hello everybody and welcome to True Crime. Time for Thursday, April 30, 2026. And I am Cindy Overton. And Woody is it's like a tag thing again but Woody is otherwise disposed of. Disposed of wood. He is otherwise taking care of business that I can't take care of. So I get to sit in today and of course I'm solo but let's get straight into to it. I've got a few announcements at the end about the live and a few other questions I want to ask and hopefully you'll respond to. So stay tuned for the end of the show. But on April 30th of 2023, 19 year old Cameron Everest Brand attacked a house party, shooting two teenagers and wounding four others on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Brand was quickly arrested and charged with murder and aggravated assault. So since this was just a few years ago, I actually did some digging on this story. And just a month and a half ago Brand actually entered in an open plea of guilty to two counts of first degree murder and four four counts of aggravated assault. So like I said, the shooting occurred on April 30th of 2023 and it claimed the lives of an 18 year old Darius or D.D. smith and 16 year old Haley Stamper. And both were students of Hancock High School. And this was in Mississippi. Like I said, it was the Mississippi Gulf Coast. But the sentencing is scheduled for June 2nd of this year and he faces the possibility of two life sentences plus up to 80 years for the aggravated assault charges. Brand did admit in court to shooting 17 times at the party stating his mind was clouded by alcohol and marijuana. At the time he noted a prior social media dispute with one of the victims. And in February of this year a judge granted a change of venue for the trial due to the extensive pre trial publicity. And Brand has actually been held in Hancock County Jail since his arrest in April of 2023. So that is this day in history for April 30th. Now let's get down to some other true crime time. Let's see what Woody has served up for me today. So a man in San Antonio was actually dumpster diving and he was shot in the chest early Tuesday morning near a northeast side Taco Bell. The shooting happened around 4am near a taco Bell on Perrin Bidle near Naco Perrin Boulevard. Police say the 46 year old man and a woman had been dumpster diving in the area and were walking along Paron Vital near the Taco Bell when a dark colored SUV drove by and someone inside fired a shot. The man was struck in the right side of his chest. The woman called for help after the shooting and the SUV drove away toward Wurzbach Parkway and the man was taken to the hospital in stable condition. And at this time, that is all of the information I have on that story. And I hope that they find the shooters, the dark colored SUV and he gets the justice he deserves. Now there's Baton Rouge. Can't say this, but there are a few towns that in cities, probably towns, villages, that actually don't see a murder happen in their county, their town, their whatever for, you know, months or possibly years at a time. Like I said, Baton Rouge isn't, isn't one of those, unfortunately. And I would say that one of those towns that this could possibly happen is a very small area in Louisiana. And Woody, if Woody was here, he could correct me. But Grand Isle, I would say is probably the most southern point, or at least a very, very southern point of Louisiana. And an 18 year old has been arrested in connection with a deadly shooting in Grand Isle, which is this town's first homicide of this year. And he was arrested after his accomplice was shot and killed during an attempted armed robbery. The incident occurred last Tuesday at a mobile home park on the 3100 block of Highway 1. Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joseph Lepento said three people met Wallace Ladette Jr. And 19 year old Drayvon Mixon to purchase drugs during the encounter. Mixon allegedly attempted to rob them at gunpoint. Now a person inside the vehicle opened fire, striking and killing Mixon. Authorities took five people, all under the age of 20, into custody for questioning. Lepento said the shooting appears to have been an act of self defense. The people inside the vehicle could face drug possession charges, though they are not currently being charged in connection with the homicide. Lepento goes on to say, we believe that the shooting itself was justified there, which he's referring to. The three individuals are not going to be charged with the homicide related charges. Lidette was arrested on charges of conspiracy, attempted armed robbery and manslaughter on the grounds that the death occurred during the commission of a violent felony. The sheriff said. Lepento also confirmed Lidette is the stepson of a Grand Isle police officer. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office has taken over the investigation. While Grand Isle has its own police department, the JPSO leads major crime investigations, including homicides I don't think that they should be able to do that investigation considering that he is the stepson of a police officer. Anyway, we're going to Pennsylvania A Pennsylvania mom who was previously convicted of accidentally killing her own baby is now accused of endangering another person's child. In December of 2016, Arissa Ward was charged with involuntary manslaughter and endangering the welfare of children after she accidentally suffocated her two month old son by falling asleep on the couch and rolling over onto him while under the influence of alcohol and marijuana. She was sentenced to two days in prison as well as three months of house arrest, 40 hours of community service and five years of probation in 2018. Now it's been a decade after that tragic incident and ward, who's now 32, was arrested on Tuesday, April 21 when a 2 year old boy she was meant to be babysitting was found wandering alone in the middle of the road. According to an arrest affidavit obtained by Law and Crime, the toddler was was cold to the touch and he was found wearing no socks and no shoes in 37 degree weather. The Pennsylvania State Police said that the child was found in the middle of the road on West Main street in Winnsboro around 8am local time and a passerby reported the discovery to the police. Then there was an investigation and the police determined the young child's babysitter, who was Arisa Ward, had fallen asleep and the child got out of the house. Upon knocking on Ward's door, police asked if she was missing a child, to which she replied yes, yes, but he is not mine. The boy's mom dropped him off with me this morning, she continued. He's a little boy, he's two with blonde curly hair. When asked for an explanation as to why the child was found wandering by himself, Ward claimed she was sleeping in her second floor bedroom with her own two kids and her own dog when the child's mother dropped him off around 6.30am in the affidavit, the mother confirmed that she walked in the residence and took her child upstairs to Ward's bedroom where the door was left open. The mother then stated that Ward was asleep and she had to wake her up. She adds that Ward had to be jolted awake multiple times. The mother then goes on to state that she did not close the bedroom door behind her and is not certain if the baby gate was latched behind her. The mother stated she pulled the front door shut as she left. Around 9:19am that day, Ward began texting the mother to ask where she and the boy were, seemingly unaware that that the two year old had been dropped off at all. Kind of selective amnesia. Dealt with that a lot lately with with different things. While the mother then tried to call Ward five times, each call went to voicemail. By 10am the mother received a call from the police informing her that the two year old child was was in police custody after being found wandering outside. Ward was then arrested and charged with a felony charge of child endangerment and a misdemeanor charge of recklessly endangering another person. Not much to say about that. This isn't funny. I'm just laughing at it because I think it's funny that one, Leah sent it to Woody and two, Woody passed it along to me.

but I've got a story about a woman that thought she married a wealthy Ken doll and his crimes left her broke with only $11 in the bank. The woman is Libby Henry and she believed her marriage to Ted House was a dream come true until he flipped her world upside down. When Libby Henry went to college at the University of Kentucky, she dreamed of creating a normal family with the perfect partner. Now Henry, rightfully so wanted had this dream because she had a difficult childhood growing up in Louisville, Kentucky. And part of the difficulty was there was little money. Her mother was believed to have borderline personality disorder. And so she had several challenges and she wanted to do better for herself. She wanted to create a family completely different from the one in which she had grown up. Now Woody always tells the kids, my dad always told me, he said I might not be the perfect dad, but I just tried to be better than my parents were to me. And Woody has said that to all of our kids. Not discounting what our parents and how our parents parented us, but that's a goal. Like as we grow up, we have dreams and aspirations. All are oftentimes based off of what we experienced in our childhoods. Right. Well, this woman's no different. And In August of 1991, Henry met Edward Ted House.

boy in her history class from a very wealthy family, and he reminded her of a Ken doll. And they were sitting in history class and he had a little pickup line that he used and that didn't impress her, but it still made an impression on her. And two years later they went on a dinner date. And then she was quickly smitten while she dreamed of a happily ever after. The couple's marriage and eventual divorce was a harsh dose of reality. Now this story, if you want to know more about it, is explored on or was explored on the April 26 episode of ABC's docu series Betrayal, Secrets and Lies. And it's it's titled the Kentucky Con Man. In it, Henry and those close to her discuss the doomed relationship. The two got engaged over a year after they started dating, and in the episode, Henry recalls an instance where House's temper made her consider calling off the engagement. She went through with it after her mom pushed back, and she says this is a quote from her and home videos that play and their 1993 nuptials. Our wedding was a big wedding. It was to me very elaborate. Nothing I thought I would ever have. I had a lot of fun and I was so excited at the end to be Mrs. Edward House. I felt very proud. I thought I was going to have the life that my parents never did. This is a dream come true. Not long after the wedding, the pair welcomed their daughter. Henry stated experiencing chronic back pain that made it difficult for her to continue to work full time, and her husband told her he made enough money through his job in the mortgage industry to support the family. And so she became a stay at home, mom, she then says, we were going to Costa Rica. We were going to Martha's Vineyard. We were able to just take off and go places. I finally had the life I wanted, all that I dreamed about in high school, and I was happy. So while House was finding success in the mortgage business, he would also began flipping houses. Seems like a lot of people do that. And my father in law, one of his favorite things to do is buy real estate and flip it. And he worked with a business partner, Khalid Rahim, who is also interviewed in this episode that I'm talking about. And House did not participate in this documentary at all. The family of three moved into a fancy new home, and as they settled in, House turned into a different person. Henry says it was like he was in panic all the time. One day, Henry recalls, she confronted her husband about his demeanor. And he apparently claimed, I don't know what that Khalid will do. That guy might kill you and our daughter. According to Henry, he went on to explain that Raheem had gotten him involved in something, and he declined to share any more information. So she decided to call his mother, who she remembers telling her, we talked to Ted. Khalid didn't say that. It's just Ted got scared and he realizes that he's been consorting with someone he shouldn't and he was just not going to do business with him anymore. And Henry says, I didn't believe that, but I felt like my mother in law was just saying to me, don't step out of line. Know your place. And she says, looking back on the situation, Raheem says he doesn't know why House said that. He allegedly said, I would never come for Libby or anybody else. Looking back on the situation, Raheem says he, he doesn't know why House said what he said. And then on the episode, he goes on to say, I would never come for Libby or anyone else. Henry says things seemed to get better until one day when House exploded at her for purchasing an antique platter. He threw such a fit, he exploded, she recalls, I just didn't understand how we bought this house. That was close to a million dollars. And then he cared about this platter. In the documentary, she goes on to claim that she had on sunglasses at the time, and he got so mad that he ripped them off, crumpled them in his hand, and then threw them out the window. And that act cut her on her nose. And she said he was just escalating. It was just getting worse and worse. Then after seeing a television program about a woman married to a white Collar man who was kept in the dark about her family's finances. Henry decided to confront House and asked him to tell her the truth about their situation. Well, of course he refused and then left. Three days before Christmas, he moved into an apartment. He later returned home and told Henry that they were in financial trouble due to some bad business decisions. They needed to sell their home and meet with a bankruptcy attorney. House had been depositing money into his wife's checking account since she left her full time job. And as their marriage was falling apart, Henry recalls, her checking account had just $11 in it. one point, she asked House for money to buy groceries for her and their daughter. But there was no money on the card, no money in the checking account, and no money on another card he told her to use. And when she called to ask him about it, he said, go get a J, O B. So she ultimately filed for divorce and soon after began receiving calls from creditors and learned that her estranged husband had opened up credit card accounts and taken out loans in her network in her name. One day he returned to the house and told her that he had left something in the guest room for her. And when she returned, he had left with the car he had previously given her. She soon found out that the car was going to be repossessed and her signature had been forged on the paperwork as a guarantor. House later wrote her a letter and asking for her to call off the divorce, Henry says. And he promised he'd start being more transparent about business while expressing his love for her. And she declined, and the couple officially divorced in September of 2005. As part of their divorce settlement, Henry was allowed to stay in the condo owned by house's parents for two years and was given $1,200 in child support each month. House had it reduced to $149. She said my life was on fire. I just couldn't understand what was going on with Ted and why he had no money. Desperate for answers, Henry turned to quote, unquote, Louisville rumor mill. And then that's when she found out that House was being investigated by the FBI for fraud. When she confronted him, Henry says he told her, if I go down, I'm taking you with me. You're a co conspirator. So then she went to the U.S. attorney's office with her lawyer and was told House had been involved in mortgage fraud. She was worried they suspect she'd been involved with. But Henry recalls the lead agent told her, you're only guilty of trusting your husband. House was then indicted, as was Raheem, who says in the documentary that his former business partner had falsified documents that had nothing to do with me. And in 2009, House was convicted of mortgage, bank and wire fraud and sentenced to 18 months in prison. Well, Henry says she never financially rebounded. She says that she later discovered that her ex had forged her name on the deeds for various homes. She fought for eight years to have the deeds amended. And in the years since, Henry has found a community with other women who've endured similar situations in the White Collar Wives Project support group. That is so sad that you have to have a support group for this type of horrible husband, she says. I felt so bad about myself for such a long time, but I feel good about myself now. I have a job today. I wrote a book because my story is a cautionary tale. I so it is definitely a cautionary tale. And I'm very glad that there is a support group and I'm very glad that there's a documentary that, you know, gives people like a doc. A show she saw got her to thinking about her situation, which led to her ultimate being able to get out of the situation unscathed, not completely unscathed, but she probably would have ended up in a much worse situation. And so awareness matters. And which brings me to like the self defense series that we're doing that Leah Marie is doing every day in our Facebook groups and I'm doing my best to share it in the app every day. And then next month we have a brand new it's not self defense. It is another month of self help in another area. And so I think it'll be very, very helpful for all of our listeners and followers. So stay tuned and pay attention to what Leah Marie starts posting May 1st. But also go back and look at all of these self defense tips that that we've done this month. And thank you, Leah Marie, for handling posting all of that and continuing to post in the month of May.

This next story is coming from South Carolina, where a man is facing multiple charges after being accused of sexually abusing a minor. For luis Monteja, who's 43 years old, is charged with three counts of second degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor and one count of incest. According to a news release, the criminal sexual conduct charge alleges that the minor was between the ages of 11 and 14. Deputies began investigating the case on April 11 when a minor was found giving birth in the parking lot of Oceani Memorial Hospital. The minor who was with an adult female at the time, was then transported to a hospital where she delivered the child. Deputies met with an agent from the Department of Social Services after the minor gave birth and turned the investigation over to the Violent Crimes Unit of the Criminal Investigations Bureau. Investigators were able to obtain a warrant and arrest Monte mon Montejo just five days later on April 16, based upon evidence that was obtained during the investigation. And after presenting that evidence to a judge, probable cause was established that Montejo had engaged in sexual intercourse with the victim between 2022 and 2025. Deputies placed both the minor and her newborn in emergency protective custody, and investigators are still awaiting test results that will determine. That will deter. That will determine if Montejo is the father of the child. Now he remains in custody and is on a 80,000 surety bond. Shortly after being taken into custody, U.S. immigration and Customs Enforcement placed a detainer on Montejo that requires him to be kept in custody for up to 48 hours after his release by the OCSO should he post bond order for Jennifer

The OCSO said that the case only involves one minor female at this time, but the investigation is ongoing. So please, if you know of someone that is being sexually assaulted, please contact 1-800-656-4673 or 1-800-656-HOPE or go to rainn.org R A I N N. O R G. I love me some ChatGPT. I really do. Our daughter got engaged last weekend and we are using the heck out of Chat GPT right now. It is creating Crest for us. It is curating floral pieces. It is just doing amazing things for us. And of course, I do use ChatGPT for various things and podcasting and just life in general. I can guarantee you that you will not look at my chatgpt and find this. There's been a man charged with killing two University of South Florida doctoral students from Bangladesh that allegedly asked ChatGPT about what happens if a person has been put in a garbage bag and thrown in a dumpster? The same man also bought duct tape and trash bags in the days leading up to the student's disappearance. Hisham Agarbai, who's 26 years old, has been charged with two counts of premeditated murder in the first degree with a weapon in the deaths of his roommates Samil Lemon, 27, and his roommate's girlfriend, Nahida Brizzi, who's 27. Authorities said that the man was a former USF student and he was Lamond's off campus roommate and the Mons remains were found on Friday morning within numerous black utility trash bags in advanced stages of decomposition and they were on the Howard Franklin Bridge over Tampa Bay. Bridzy was still missing as of Saturday morning, but prosecutors said in the Saturday filing that no evidence has been uncovered during the course of the investigation to support any probability that Brizzi remains alive. The students disappeared from the USF campus on April 16, and during the missing persons investigation. Deputies identified the murderer as Lamond's roommate, and authorities said that he was arrested on Friday after they responded to a domestic violence call at his family's home. Prosecutors say that on April 7 that the murderer ordered duct tape online and that on April 11th he also ordered fire starter charcoal, trash bags and lighter fuel. Prosecutors also alleged that he asked ChatGPT what happens if a human is put in a black garbage bag and thrown in a dumpster. The filing states that ChatGPT responded that it sounded dangerous, to which the murderer responded, how would they find out? Two days later, on April 15, he reportedly asked ChatGPT, Can a VIN number on a car be changed? Can you keep a gun at home without a license? Then on April 17, prosecutors say that the murderer asked, are cars checked at the Hillsboro River State Park? Prosecutors also say in the filing that the Limon's roommate told investigators that between the night of April 16th and the morning of April 17th that they observed that the murderer was using a gray rolling trolley cart to move multiple cardboard boxes from within Hashem's room to a compact dumpster on site, and when asked about the cart and boxes, he advised he removed old clothing that he no longer wanted. Authorities later searched that compactor and found a wallet containing a student ID and a Visa card belonging to Lamond and other items. And on Sunday, the Hillsboro the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office reported that human remains had been recovered from the waterways of Tampa Bay and those have not been identified. Car records show that the murderer is a US Citizen and made his initial court appearance on Saturday and was ordered held without bond. The hearing is then scheduled for yesterday. Well, was then scheduled for April 28 at 9am the court filing states that during an interview with investigators that the murderer denied having any involvement in the disappearance of Lemon or Bristy. The Haroldsboro County Public Defender's office, which was appointed to him, declined to comment on the case. A spokesperson for OpenAI, which operates ChatGPT, told the Guardian, which is newspaper or news outlet, in a statement. This is a terrible crime and our thoughts are with everyone affected. We're looking into these reports and and we will do whatever we can to support law enforcement in their investigation. And authorities have not disclosed other possible motives for the killings. There are certain things that I look up on Chad GPT when I'm like researching something for, you know, real life or crime. Sometimes I ask it crazy stuff, especially like when I'm doing the past, like this day in history. I ask is this possible or what would happen if this, you know, if it's something that happened years before or whatever. I can't stop doing my job. But hopefully they know that I run a true crime podcast.

in Orange County, California. A cheerleading coach will spend the rest of his life behind bars. Following the sentencing that addressed decades of systemic child abuse, Eric Joseph Christensen was convicted in December on 23 felony counts of child sexual assault. The evidence presented in court showed a pattern of grooming and manipulation dating back to 1998. Christensen utilized his position as a coach at institutions such as Magic All Star, Trabuco Hills High School and various YMCA camps to gain access to his victims. Orange County Superior Court Judge Kevin Haskins noted that Christensen viewed the children as sex objects to be discarded once he has was finished with them. The investigation gained momentum in 2022 following Christensen's arrest in a separate Florida case, which prompted a wave of victims in California to come forward. It just takes one. It's just like tips. If we get one tip that can start that can lead us to asking questions that could lead to the next. And I will say that the last episode, episode five of what Happened to Madison, Woody said something and someone listened and Woody wasn't talking about that someone, but that someone thought he was and actually called in again, which led to a deeper conversation with Woody, which is probably going to lead to. Not probably, which is actually going to lead to a huge step. So just like, I mean they call it the MeToo movement, but if you hear of someone that was abused or something happened to them, you feel like you have more credibility to step out and tell your story or you'll be heard. Or you need to step up too, to add more to the case. Whatever your reason is, there's never a bad reason to step up and say what happened to you or what you experienced. So the courtroom was filled with emotional impact statements from the survivors, and that's exactly what they are. One survivor, what they call a victim in this article, was 14 at the time of the abuse, and that survivor told the judge, one minute I was the happiest I've ever been in love and the next moment I was discarded because of the rejection and stonewalling, I spiraled. Another survivor characterized Christensen as a monster and a wolf in sheep's clothing, asserting that her resiliency should not lead to leniency. The Other side In contrast, the defendant's mother, Kristen Christensen, asked for a second chance, describing her son as a caring, loving person and a family friend. John Stewart testified that Christensen had lived with his family in Indiana after his arrest without any problems. Oh, he's such a good boy. However, Deputy District Attorney Juliet Oliver countered these pleas, stating, despite the amount of time passed, the trauma these victims have experienced is real. So while the sentencing provides a legal resolution for the 10 victims involved in the case, it remains unclear if there are additional victims who have not yet come forward. The full extent of Christensen's activities during his time in Indiana and Florida is also not fully detailed in the current judicial record for the Orange county proceedings. So if you know anything, heard anything, please step forward and let's get some justice. So with that, I'm going to conclude today's episode. I want to give you a URL that is going to just be way easier to remember if you are not going to the show notes to get your tickets or going to Facebook or the app or the email that was sent. And that URL is t I n y u r l.com RLRC 2026 so tinyurl.com RLRC2026 and that is the tiny URL that you can go in and purchase your tickets to the live show. That is one of the announcements that I wanted to make. We're getting questions if they're going to be if we're going to have a VIP ticket this year and we are not we at this facility, we're all going to be VIPs. The way it's going to be set up, we're going to have a meet and greet for all after the show, picture taking, food will still, you know, be outside, drinks will still be outside. So it's going to be a little bit different than last year, but it's going to be amazing. We're going back home. Dislocation is perfect for this event. We've had so many events here and have enjoyed each and every one. It is a great time. I love, love, love seeing those of you that are like commenting on the post that you are going, that you bought your tickets. I love seeing that. If you're planning your summer schedule, we completely get it. So please share. I love seeing everyone sharing the post as well. Please share with everybody. Our second, third, fourth, fifth timers, we cannot wait to hug your necks again and take your pictures. And our Patreon and convicts, we cannot wait to buy you your first drink. It's going to be a great, great time. I also posted something this week where I asked for merch that because I'm creating new merch that I want to have at the event. So I got the sugar turned to shit as a bracelet, as a request. I did a necklace many years ago but I got a request, it's like a little gold chain with the, you know, engraved sugar turned to shit on it. So I'm going to create those again. I got a request for a journal, I got a request for a keychain and I also got of course request for T shirts. We will, I will have all of those there within reason. We also give bags to everyone that stays at the hotel with us and we will have you know, things there that night. It is a really good time. We do our very best to give back to all of you when you come. I and the, and the bags that I'm going to curate, I am going to do like I always do, go to local places and get hopefully like some places give like a free appetizer, you know, for like restaurants. We'll offer a free appetizer if you bring in, you know, the coupon from your bag. Some people just put in, you know, their a cup or you know, just some type of merchandise from them. Last year I think the, the tourist center put in a map of Hammond and listed places to go to that were supporting us and I'm going to make the bag even better this year. So now if you would, if you are a business owner and you want to donate to the bag, that's great too. I typically do about 100 bags because I also give certain bags away at the event and I give certain bags away at the hotel. So I create two different bags. So anything that you would like to donate I will take. As a lifer, I would certainly appreciate it. So that being said, I think I have said enough today. Thank you for listening and we cannot wait to see you at the live. It's going to be a great time and we will see you tomorrow. Maybe it'll be Woody and I together. Maybe it won't. We'll see.

Sure.

Once upon a time, a mom needed a new car. Was she brave? She was tired mostly. But she went to Carvana.com and found a great car at a great price. No secret treasure map required. Did you have to fight a dragon? Nope. She bought it 100% online from her bed, actually. Was it scary? Honey, it was as unscary as car buying could be. Did the car have a sunroof?
Cindy Overton
It did, actually.

Okay, good story. Car buying you'll want to tell stories about. Buy your car today on Carvana. Delivery fees may apply. A vacation rental should come with support, not surprises. That's why Vrbo comes with a Verbocare guarantee and 24. 7 life support from real people. So if something goes sideways, Vrbocare can help. If the host cancels verbo care if the listing says heated pool, but there's actually no pool to heat. Definitely a verbo care thing. If my teenager starts calling me Leslie instead of mom, that's a family thing. Leslie.
Cindy Overton
That makes sense.

I drive my bus in a busy city. That's why road safety is so important to me. I know that I must slow down and be extra careful when I make a wide turn. Buses need more room than cars. Everyone can help keep our roads safe. Next time you're driving, remember to give buses plenty of time and space to finish turning before driving ahead. Let's all plan to share the road safely. Podcast: Real Life Real Crime
Host: Cindy Overton (Woody Overton absent)
Date: April 30, 2026
Episode Focus:
An engaging rundown of true crime events, recent legal developments, disturbing cases of child endangerment, tech-facilitated murder, family fraud, and child abuse scandals. Cindy Overton anchors the episode solo, spotlighting everything from southern small-town violence and child neglect to headline-making fraud and tech’s dark influence.
This episode of "True Crime Time For" brings listeners a diverse blend of recent and historical true crime cases, thoughtfully recounted by Cindy Overton. While Woody Overton is absent this week, Cindy provides an in-depth look at a violent Mississippi shooting, a gruesome murder facilitated by ChatGPT searches, shocking cases of child endangerment and sexual abuse, and a chilling story of family betrayal and white-collar fraud. The episode is equal parts awareness, advocacy, and warning—underscored by Cindy’s conversational, down-to-earth delivery.
"Brand did admit in court to shooting 17 times at the party, stating his mind was clouded by alcohol and marijuana."
"I hope that they find the shooters ... and he gets the justice he deserves."
"I don't think they should be able to do that investigation considering he's the stepson of a police officer. Anyway..."
"Kind of selective amnesia. Dealt with that a lot lately with different things..."
"Our wedding was a big wedding... Nothing I thought I would ever have. I felt very proud. I thought I was going to have the life that my parents never did."
"She later discovered her ex had forged her name on the deeds ... She fought for eight years to have the deeds amended."
"Viewed the children as sex objects to be discarded once he was finished with them."
"One minute I was the happiest I've ever been and the next I was discarded... I spiraled."
"There's been a man charged with killing two University of South Florida doctoral students from Bangladesh that allegedly asked ChatGPT about what happens if a person has been put in a garbage bag and thrown in a dumpster."
"If you know of someone that is being sexually assaulted, please contact 1-800-656-4673 or go to rainn.org."
On Community Action:
(Cindy, 45:50):
"It just takes one... If you hear of someone that was abused or something happened to them, you feel like you have more credibility to step out and tell your story. There’s never a bad reason to step up and say what happened to you or what you experienced."
On True Crime’s Personal Impact:
(Cindy, discussing self-defense and advocacy, 32:50):
"Awareness matters. ... A show she saw got her to thinking about her situation, which led to her ultimate... being able to get out of the situation unscathed."
Cindy ends the episode by promoting community engagement and self-defense initiatives, echoing the underlying message heard throughout the episode: awareness, action, and support networks are crucial in preventing and addressing real-life crime.
"If you are a business owner and you want to donate to the bag, that's great too. ... We also give bags to everyone that stays at the hotel with us..."
