Hello everybody. Welcome to this episode of True crime.
B
Time for February 14, 2026. And I'm Woody Overton. And you know what that means. February 14th, Valentine's Day. And I guess I'm the the ultimate Scrooge of Valentine's because I just don't believe it. Man made holiday. I think it's a gig for the candy companies and the flower companies and the card companies and all that bullshit. Maybe engagement ring companies. All to make a buck. You know the. I guess I'm not a hopeless romantic and and the it's funny but I can remember being a young man and I would break up people. Well, don't guess I was really like really into them break up with people before Valentine's just so I didn't have to be deal with the Valentine's. Oh, and restaurants, right? Another big deal. Take your Valentine's out. But I know a lot of people enjoy it and all the good love and all that that Valentine's is supposed to represent and you know, happy Valentine's, right? Or Happy vd Not the narrative disease. Happy Valentine's Day.
A
But Valentine's Day.
B
I'm going to tell you some stories today. True crime time for actual real horrible crimes that were committed on this day of love and romance. I wonder how many babies. I wonder how many months is that. February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October. I don't know how many November babies were made on Valentine's Day. But let's go to the most famous one, y'.
A
All.
B
And I've actually Been to the site where this happened and the St. Valentine's Day massacre, which occurred in 1929. Right. And that's the most notorious Valentine's Day crime which occurred during the height of Prohibition in Chicago. The gangland wars, right. So I don't know what they were thinking when they did Prohibition because the, that probably is the single dumbest move ever made by the, the US government to further crime throughout history. Because when you, you know, you outlaw alcohol, then people are still going to drink. And that's a fact. And that's how moonshining got started. In the Mafia, Al Capone, everybody, all these different organizations saw a way to make a buck and so they started selling illegal booze or any booze was illegal at this time, right. And so they, from the hills of Tennessee and Georgia and wherever they were making the shine, they, they, the gangsters reached out, they bought these products and that's where moonshining started. And the, the Daytona NASCAR got started by these moonshiners. Had the super fast cars outrun the cops and all these networks that spread throughout the United States because it wasn't.
A
Just New York City and Chicago, New.
B
Orleans, Louisiana where they were drinking. They were drinking everywhere just like they.
A
Did before they outlawed alcohol. But, but the, they had this spiderweb.
B
Of the whole United States where they had routes where they delivered the alcohol and everything. And it's shit, it was awesome money, right? They bought it for cheap, sold it for high and ultimately when they shut down, when they ended Prohibition, the, the outlaw networks would use these same routes as they established to further prostitution in gambling and drugs throughout the United States of America. But back to this day, the.
A
Notorious.
B
Valentine's St. Valentine's Day massacre. Y' all all know about this, but.
A
The crime had seven members and associates.
B
Of George Bugs Moran, what's who is of the north side gang in Chicago. They were lined up against a garage wall and executed with Thompson submachine guns by men who were disguised as police officers, right? So they raid the place, cops, they're in uniform and you know, get against the wall and like they're going to search for whatever. And they just machine gun the shit out of Watami guns. What they, the Thompson submachine guns were called and they shoot.45 caliber ammunition, which is pretty much the heaviest ammunition that you can get for a firearm besides a 357 or 4. 444 and we called them flying ashtrays, but that's what Thompson submachine gun shot and they blew them to pieces. And who did it?
A
Well, everybody thought that Al Capone did.
B
It to eliminate his rival. And. But Capone was in Florida at his mansion at the time, and he was never charged and still pretty much sure that he did it or had it ordered. The. But the brutality of the event shocked the nation and leading to increased federal pressure on organized crime and eventually contributed to Al Capone's downfall for tax evasion. So. And I have a. I have a Magnum refrigerator. It has my alcohol in my alcohol refrigerator, and it's Al Capone. And he says, there's no gangsters in Chicago.
A
Right.
B
And we used to love to go to Chicago, took that crime tour, if you will. And this is one of the places that. That we went to the bus took them to.
A
So let's move forward to the year of 2013.
B
I know y' all know all these stories, but these are Valentine's Day stories.
A
So in the early hours of Valentine's.
B
Day in 2013, South African Paralympic star Oscar Pastoris shot and killed his girlfriend, who was a model in Riva Steenkamp.
A
Now, Pastoris claimed that he was chilling.
B
In his house, and he heard an intruder breaking in. He was in the bathroom, and he heard an intruder breaking in, and so he gunned him down. Right. Well, that just happened to be his girlfriend. So he stuck to his guns, literally. And he went to trial. And this was one of the biggest trials that was ever televised besides OJ and the Murdaughs or whatever.
A
He went to trial is globally televised.
B
And ultimately, the. He got the charge of murder. Right. And as he should have.
A
So tell you about another one.
B
We're going back a little bit in time. 1971, in the murder of Jessica McBain and Patricia Mann. And this is known as the Valentine Day murders in North Carolina. But, yeah, it also was a cold case for decades. So the young couple, Jesse McBain and Patricia Mann disappeared from a lover's lane in Durham, North Carolina, on February 12, 1971. And their bodies were found on February 25, tied to a tree in a secluded area. Now, the. This case has been widely covered, and, you know, they got a bunch of new interests in it because of the DNA tests in recent years. But guess what? The case remains one of the areas most haunting unsolved mysteries still cold to this day. Right.
A
All right, let's go to 2014. And on Valentine's Day in 2014.
B
In a Kentucky jail, there was an attempted romantic escape by inmate to see his girlfriend. Now, the inmate who was serving time for burglary, he Managed to climb over a razor wire fence. Constantino Wire, y'. All. It's the shit that you see that's wrapped up in circles and literally has razor blades welded to him. So. Well, he attempted and he did it and but he was captured shortly after and he was sliced to shit and back from the Constantine wire. And, and on top of his burglary charge, he called a charge of second degree escape. And I think he got 10 years on top of the burger for that, y', all. Just because he wants to go see his Valentine's his sweetheart on this man made holiday.
A
All right, let's go to.
B
1990 in the Julie Valentine case in Greenville, South Carolina. A newborn baby girl was found abandoned in a vacant lot on February 14, which led to the community to name her Julie Valentine. Now the case remained cold for 29 years until 2019 when our dear friend DNA. And the DNA evidence finally led to the identification and thankfully the arrest of the biological mother, Brooke Graham, who was charged with homicide by child abuse because she left the baby there and had died. So all not all good shit happens on Valentine's, right?
A
So let's bring it back to the great state of Louisiana and tell you.
B
About some Valentine stuff that I'm pretty sure you don't know about. And the they say the recent Valentine's Day periods in Louisiana have been marked by several significant and often violent criminal incidents, ranging from domestic related homicides to violent unexpected shootings. Now this includes in the years of 2025 and 2026 in Lake Charles, Louisiana. It's all the way over by the Texas line, y', all, about 15 miles, 20 miles away from Texas in the far southwest corner of Louisiana. And there was a stabbing and a person was killed and another was in custody following a stabbing at an apartment in lake Charles on February 14, 2025, which is naturally a homicide. And guess what? It was Valentine's related.
A
Let's go to.
B
This recent one we.
A
Just told you about last week right here in my hometown.
B
And the Mardi Gras parade shooting. Yeah, it's a little bit early. Is was on February 1st and it's.
A
Mardi Gras in the country. The my hometown, Clinton, Louisiana.
B
Jesus, this is like the most innocent of all innocent places, except for when I did my little outlaw stuff when I was young and it the shooting resulted in six arrests, including juveniles after five people, including a child, were injured. Thankfully all of them lived.
A
So let me tell you some couple.
B
More historic Valentine's crimes day crimes in Louisiana.
A
So we're going to Tangipo Parish.
B
Right. Right next door where I came up in Livingston Parish. And I actually worked as a cop.
A
At Southeastern and Tangipo Parish.
B
It's the the mileage wise is the longest parish in the state of Louisiana from north to south. But they in 2021, they had a.
A
Double murder and a couple was murdered.
B
By their roommate Kevin Buckley on Valentine's Day. And their bodies were discovered after they came up missing, after they interviewed him and after he confessed to killing them. Right. There's a little maybe he was jealous of their Valentine's Day shenanigans.
A
Let's go to 2019. In a pregnant woman, Ariel Edwards was.
B
Killed in a drive by shooting while sleeping her home on Valentine's Day in seven people were eventually arrested in connection with the case. This is called the Glenn Drive by shooting. Right. All right, let's go to 2017 Baton Rouge, the Red Stick. And they call it the Valentine's Day Massacre. And it was a series of shootings which resulted in the deaths of two men, Marcus Holmes and Roosevelt, Florida. And again, this occurred on February 14, 2017, Valentine's Day. Everybody's not out having dinner with their significant other, right? Or making babies.
A
Tell you about another one.
B
They call it the Louisiana gun girl. Tony Jo Henry was known as the.
A
Tiger girl or the Louisiana Gun Girl.
B
And was involved in a sensationalized murder case and was executed in the 1940s. With her story heavily tied to 1940s Valentine's Day incident, Right. There you go.
A

Year, doing things right.
A
That means sleeping when I can, eating decent, staying active and paying attention when something feels off. And for a lot of people, especially women, feeling tired or foggy at the start of the year gets written off as stress or burnout when low iron.
B
Can actually be part of the problem.
A
Iron deficiency affects one in three adults and the symptoms don't always jump out at you. It can show up as constant fatigue even when you're sleeping enough, brain fog or trouble concentrating, frequent headaches, irritability or brittle nails and hair breakage. When iron levels are low, your body has to work harder to deliver oxygen and that can impact your energy, focus.
B
Mood and physical performance.
A
An iron deficiency can exist long before anything turns into anemia, which means you.
B
Can feel it well before it shows up on paper.
A
That's why I recommend Sideroll from Farming Nutra. Sideroll is a premium iron supplement powered by the patented Sucrosomio technology. This technology helps your body absorb iron three to four times more effectively than standard iron supplements without the common stomach.
B
Issues people complain about like nausea and constipation.

Premium materials, thoughtful design and everyday staples that feel easy to rely on even as the weather starts to shift. Quint's has all the everyday essentials I love with quality that lasts organic cotton sweaters, polos that work for just about any occasion. Lighter jackets that keep you warm without feeling bulky. Then the list really does go on. Everything is designed to handle daily wear and still look good season after season. One of the reasons Quince can do this is because they work directly with the top factories and they cut out the middleman. That means you're not paying for brand markups, just well made clothing at a price that actually makes sense. And they only partner with factories that meet rigorous standards for craftsmanship and ethical production. I'll be honest, I normally wouldn't spend money on cashmere, but the cashmere sweater I picked up from Quince completely changed my mind. It's ridiculously soft, comfortable and the price was so reasonable that I actually bought.

More glorious events that happen on Valentine's Day. Here's one that Everybody's heard of. Captain Cook, the famous pirate. And back in the year 1779, well he was made a explorer by the British government but he was able to sail under a flag and there was some dispute about him using that flag to attack other ships and seize their pirate shit and all that. He was kind of like a double edged sword if you will. But he was killed in Kaluka Bay, Hawaii. Valentine's Day 1779 then and we'll go to Illinois and Illinois University shooting back in 2008 a gunman killed five people in a lecture hall on Valentine's Day. This roll out to London across the pond 1968, 1978 violent gang related shootings occurred with one of these incidents said to have echoed the 1929St. Valentine's Day execution where I told you about earlier where the they dressed up as cops and killed killed the rival gang members. But more importantly, where you get St. Valentine from? Well the day's reputation is also rooted in the execution of the original St. Valentine who was killed by the Roman Emperor Claudius II in the year of our Lord 270. And I guess I shouldn't be such a scrooge. Let me just ask, let me ask whatever you call it, what does it Valentine's actually mean? What is the actual history behind Valentine's Day? Why did it come to existence?
A
Here's an answer from soulsanctuaries.com.
B
Huh, I guess it was for making babies. Says Valentine's Day originated from the Roman festival of Lupercalia which celebrating the fertility and matchmaking before it became Christianized in the 5th century. And St. Valentine defied Emperor Claudius II by secretly marrying couples symbolizing love and sacrifice. The first Valentine greeding is attributed to St Valentine while he was in prison, linking him to romantic love. Okay, so there you have it. I actually didn't even know that y'.
A
All.
B
And of course you know couples murders, right? And we do them every day on true crime time for you know, family matters. A lot of those are husband and wives that do stupid shit. And you know what? They all celebrate a Valentine's Day together. Or maybe they're like Woody overs and you don't get shit. You don't get roses on Valentine's Day. But you know, my wife gets, she gets a lot of love and at. When you're listening to this, she's actually out of the state with one of her daughters and they're having a mommy daughter trip.
A
Going to see my mother. So the happy Valentine's everybody.
B
And that's your thing.
A
Blow it up.
B
Send those red roses and candies and all that. I'll go back my childhood, my mama, honestly. And there were a lot of us kids, seven of us. I did wake up every Valentine's Day and my mama had me a box of a little red shaped heart box Stovers chocolate candies. And that's the ones where you, you never know which ones are really going to be the good ones. So you like take a bite in and see if it's like hazelnuts, some shit you're not going to eat. And I was always looking for the caramels. But so it's not like yeah, I didn't just become a scrooge on it, but I didn't. It's not my parents fault. It's just Woody over to being Woody Overton and the man made holiday that I don't participate in. But I hope you all enjoy yours.
A
Right, so a couple of things I want to talk about real quick.
B
And because we're getting back to the regular format in this coming week and it's very important that Keeper focus on just for Bradley and hashtag just for ao because I promised I would. Right. And I promise you it's still being worked. I'm still building calls, taking tips, looking into things, taking phone calls from people that have very pertinent information and things are moving forward. I'm not dealing with other people and because they just don't know what they don't know. And the. In any investigative process, you Learn as you go along, you learn things and you exclude things and you bring in things that you didn't think were going to be there. I mean like according to Coco's case, I certainly the last thing I thought when I started the case was that David Anthony Burns, who's basically a family member, you know, the Courtney's soon to be or sister's fiance, you know that you just never know where investigation is going to go and you also figure out things as who you can deal with and who you can't deal with. And but you, the one thing is you just don't ever give up. And I don't take anything personally. It's all about, it's all about moving forward and getting justice because I promise I would and I promised that I would try and that's exactly what we're doing. We're not going to stop the everybody deserves justice. It doesn't matter what lifestyle you live. And you know, if you're a high risk victim or whatever or you're like this 84 year old lady from Arizona who never hurt a fly, right, or never did a drug in her life. Everybody deserves justice and example. That is Ms. Barbara Blunt's case, which I've now been on for so many years I can't even count them. I guess maybe six years. And I remember the day I was at Louisiana State police officer and headquarters and I stayed after hours and I had a TV in there and I was watching the local news and it was Livingston Parish, but my sheriff's office, it was I think five months to the day after I'd left and they, that Ms. Barbara's case showed up and it showed everybody searching and everything. And it was my guys that the guys I came up with, some of the guys that mentored me and you know, definitely all the detectives that I worked with. And I just remember selfishly sitting there in the chair thinking holy shit, this is a bad one. And I had a feeling that it wasn't going to be solved then and I was thankful that I wasn't on the case. Well, years later I ended up on the case and Sheriff Jason already asked me to come in and cover it on the podcast and I've done that and we continue to do so and that, you know, Ms. Barbara's case is not cold, y', all, they, they're definite suspects. But just like on Bradley's and Austin's and every other cold case out there, you murder doesn't go away. The charge, that charge doesn't expire. But you, when you get a cold case, the district attorney is not going to take it unless it's a slam dunk. There's just not. And the why, because it's kind of a double edged thing. The one reason is because they're in hopes that the investigators will one day be able to get more information to bring it beyond a reasonable doubt. Right. If you bring it to, and I've done this, you bring the cases to the, to the D A, you tell them the facts of what you have and they're like, you know what, that's pretty, that's pretty damn great. But it's not beyond a reasonable doubt. We're not in a rush. This case is already cold in the. Actually it's not cold now because you're working and you got shit hot suspects is what I call them. But the cases are, you know, the victim's not going to get any more dead. Right. And the statute of limitations never expires. We don't want to present this to a jury and have a defense attorney get them off because of X, Y and Z. That's not answered yet. And sometimes you might be able to answer X and Y and you'll never get the answer for Z and it'll never move forward. And that, that's, this is justice system, that's the way that it works. But the way you get the answer to Z is by being blessed to have a platform like we have on real life, real crime and keep bringing attention to these crimes, keep pushing them forward, keep using the lifers to share. Now social media is one of the greatest things ever. It's also a curse, but it's one of the greatest things ever to advance cold cases since DNA and ring doorbell cameras. Right? So just don't ever give up, don't ever surrender. Don't get caught up in the, the, you know, don't get caught up in your hatred of who did or didn't do what. You know, try, try to, try to stick to the facts because that's what's important and that's what prosecutors are going to take. They're going to take the facts. They don't want the bullshit, right? And the more bullshit you start up, that's the, that's more stuff that has to be disproved or that stuff that a defense attorney can use against the ultimate prosecution now, I don't know. So never give up, never surrender and hashtag justice for Haley. Geez Louise. And they think that the Valentine's that she shared with Brooke Cleary, she loved, she loved the out of him and until she didn't and he murdered her. Right. But we need that GoFundMe, the evidence room. Those scientists need $10,000 to start. And if you get a chance, if or you're so inclined, please go to any of our social media and to the GoFundMes. And if you can donate a dollar or $100 or nothing, just share it and so we can get this, this is only way we're going to get justice for Haley, all right? And get that case to move forward.
A
So I love and appreciate each and.
B
Every one of y'. All. This is a shorter episode than usual. Happy Valentine's Day. I hope you're enjoying it with your significant other. And I love and appreciate each and every one of y'. All. Next week, a week from today, starting a new case, a new story. And it's real. The pain is real. The victim is real. The whole police case file that I have from back in the day is real. And you're going to get to hear a real mama's pain, right? And I'm going to let you. We'll tell the story together. I'll let her tell her side and put the human face on her daughter, who is the victim. And then I'm going to present the case file. And it's crazy. It's crazy. And guess what? For those of you who think you know, have said, oh, Woody left Vern in Paris because he got in trouble or would he left Fern in Paris because he's scared of the Vernon Parish shirts office. Matter of fact, let me read you this. The I was attributed to this one post to a guy named Brian Wallace about me leaving living Livingston, leaving Vernon Parish. And guess what? It actually wasn't him. It was Brian Wallace. Shared reshared the post and said, what do y' all think about this? And this post was actually posted by the chief deputy for the Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office, Calvin Turner. And that's the one that says, goodbye, Woody. All capital letters, William Turner, the chief deputy for the Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office. Goodbye, Woody. All capitals. And I Y K. Y K if you know, you know. And he posted on. I mean, you're a fucking chief deputy, bro. Guess what?
A
I'm still here. And this case is from Vernon Parish also.
B
And it just happened in my way to come to me because of Hashtag just for Bradley and hashtag just for AO. And this one Absolutely 1000% involves everything. Burn and Parish again. But you know what? It's a mama story about her baby girl and it needs to be told. Episode: Valentine’s Day Murders & Cold Cases
Date: February 14, 2026
Host: Woody Overton
On this special Valentine’s Day episode, Woody Overton deep-dives into some of the most infamous and haunting crimes that have occurred on February 14th, examining both historical cases and more recent tragedies. With his signature mix of expertise, gritty detail, and sardonic humor, Woody explores how a holiday devoted to love often becomes marred by darkness—revealing chilling stories ranging from the notorious 1929 St. Valentine’s Day Massacre to lesser-known local Louisiana cases. The episode also touches on the challenges of solving cold cases and the ongoing fight for justice for victims’ families.
“They just machine-gunned the shit out of 'em with Tommy guns… blew them to pieces.”
—Woody (08:27)
Woody humorously seeks the roots of the holiday, reading:
“Valentine’s Day originated from the Roman festival of Lupercalia which celebrated fertility and matchmaking before it became Christianized… St. Valentine defied Emperor Claudius II by secretly marrying couples, symbolizing love and sacrifice.” (28:14)
Admits: “Okay, so there you have it. I actually didn’t even know that y’all.” (28:55)
Woody Overton delivers a raw, insightful, and at times wryly humorous Valentine’s episode that’s as much about the pain and persistence of real-life crime solving as it is the strange, violent stories that haunt the “day of love.” His direct style, colorful anecdotes, and unwavering dedication to victims and their families shine through, promising more to come in his tireless search for justice.
“I love and appreciate each and every one of y’all. Happy Valentine’s Day. Next week… it’s real. The pain is real. The victim is real. The whole police case file is real. And you’re gonna get to hear a real mama’s pain.”
—Woody Overton (37:22)
