Foreign. Hello everybody and welcome to this episode of True Crime. Time for Friday, May 22, 2026 and I'm Woody Overton, rolling solo again since doing everything else. Real Life, Real Crime, the podcast and y', all, it's Memorial Day weekend, so you know I got to do Memorial Day Crime. If you listen to show for all these years on tomorrow I'm gonna do special Memorial Day crime drop again. It's always pretty much the bloodiest holiday there is and there'll be all kinds of mass shootings. Like Chicago is pretty much the worst. The last weekend I was there the last time I was there Memorial Day weekend I left on Friday and I think they they killed 27 people. So but it happens all across the country and it yeah, the weekend kicks off today in south Louisiana. The crime should be down because it's going to be flooding like a hurricane for the next however many 10 days or something crazy like that. But I love and appreciate each every one of y' all the hash. What happened to Madison? I got a couple more tips in yesterday. I want to talk about one of them real quick. The I think this person I know I know that who this person is and because I looked them up and they're on coming from the Voice from the other side if you will if that makes sense. Don't be afraid to tell what you know. Message me back again and give me the deets needed the guys that are working these case the case needed bringing attention to it Spring Madison home and the rest of them right. So 313 rlrc tip. Don't forget about the live show in July 18th in it'll be a walker in Louisiana Southeasterns Living Learning Center. Ms. Crystal Horse and all them are graciously hosting me again and it's gonna be a hell of a good time. The show will be two hours from six to eight but the doors will be open for then all the merch will be there. Big J's side porch truck will be there slinging on the grills of steel the best food you ever had. Alcohol be served. Patronic convicts. You get your first drink on me and it'll be a good time. There'll be an intermission in the middle of the show so you can get up and get more drinks and what have you. And afterwards I'm staying signed autographs to take pictures. But that's not all. It's a whole weekend event really. And we'll be staying at the Hampton Inn and denham Springs about 10 minutes away from the venue and plenty of restaurants everything around there. Friday night we're going to have a get together just for everybody to hang out all the lifers like we do every year if you've been, you know and we're going to throw down Friday night, throw down Saturday night and after the venue closes we're going to go back to another bar and again like I Said on Sunday morning we'll probably do the same thing. So I look forward to that every year. It's a real blessing and I love y'. All. Get out some true crime time for the beginning of Memorial Day weekend. I hate it. I hate it. I hate it. I love this holiday. It's probably one of my favorites. And on Monday, I will be doing nothing. I always watch a barbecue and I'll watch war movies. Right. And shout out to all the people who have died for this country to keep us free so we can act how you want to act, within the law. I guess you say as crazy as shit is now. And. But that's why we have the law. And if you don't like it, both, you know, boat people out and get. Get a change in. That's America. So. But on this day in 1980, Richard Cunningham, who's otherwise known as the New York Ripper or the Torso Killer, he got arrested at the. At a Garden State motel when a security guard stopped Cottingham from murdering an 18 year old woman. Cottenham had killed 11 before this incident and primarily targeted prostitutes. Cottenham got his name because he was known to decapitate his victims and set them a flame. He light them on fire, cut their head off and light them on fire. Yep, I'm pretty sure that needs a death penalty. Watch this. I'm going see because I need to know. I already know they don't have the death penalty. So what happened to Richard Cottingham, the Torso Killer, or the New York Ripper?
Commercial Announcer
Richard Cottingham, known as the Torso Killer, is a convicted serial killer who committed at least 11 murders between 1965 and 1980 in New York and New Jersey. He was arrested in 1980 and is

serving multiple life sentences.
Commercial Announcer
In January 2026, he confessed to the 1965 murder of Alice Eberhardt, a case that had remained unsolved for decades.

That was from chat GPT check important info from. I could tell you he's got more bodies on him than that. He confessed in 2026 just so he can remain relevant in his own mind. Right. In his own twisted ass world way. But he should die. He should. Sorry, I know I'm a hard ass, but he deserves the death penalty. All right, let's talk about all this, this craziness. And when I say that, I mean like these mass groups of kids get the gas. The kids, teenagers, young adults to get together and, and just call shows. Right? Well, we got another one and it's in a tourist hot spot and it Just happened. I guess they, you know, they get together on social media and say oh let's get together here. And they get there wherever it is and it's happening all over the country. They get together and it blows to shit. Let me tell you about this one. So we're going to New Jersey and officials made a half a dozen arrests after a swarm of youngsters descended on a quaint shore town in the latest viral teen takeover which is plaguing local communities across the country. This one unfolded Tuesday night when the Long Branch police were called to Pier Village which is a sprawling oceanfront community full of rental units and hotels. Anyway, they the respondent recording regarding reports of a massive group of teenagers inciting brawls, jumping on cars and contributing to disorder across the boardwalk. This according to newjersey.com so they got footage and it shows a line of police officers carrying riot shields and corralling the teens in the street as various other large groups can be seen weaving between cars as they are escorted out of the area. Look, you can only arrest so many people, right? You I was told when on something like this when you just grab the first one you can put your hands on, start cuffing them and, and the, you know a lot of these people think they want to be hard asses until they see their best friend go down, get body slammed and cuffs. But you can only cuff so many say the rest of them. You just try to disperse them, right? The five people, a 19 year old and a 20 year old woman and three teenagers under 18 were arrested on disorderly conduct charges. A 16 Ager was also taken in custody for eluding police. Additional arrests are expected due to reports of two separate aggravated assaults, one on the first block of Centennial Drive and a second at the local train station which all stemmed from the same incident. Police are also investigating a suspected vehicle theft in the area. They said the city of Long Branch take these events seriously and will not tolerate conduct that endangers residents, visitors, business owners or our public safety personnel. This according to public safety director Charles Shirley Jr. They the pop up gatherings of this nature, I guess that's what they call them, have repeatedly disrupted Jersey Shore communities and Long Branches prepare to act decisively whenever public safety is threatened. The incident forced city officials to implement an emergency 8pm curfew with law enforcement officers clearing the streets by 9:15. You know you're fucking up everything. You got families down there getting ready to, you know, kick off summer restaurants business doing their. This is a tourist town and you just want to show up and Be an asshole. And you're not just being an asshole. You're affecting the good people who are trying to make the living. The authorities said 69 officers with the Long Branch. God damn, that's a big. Police Department. Said 69 officers with the Long Branch Police Department were deployed to the scene along with 70 additional officers from more than a dozen neighboring agencies. So it sounds like they were ready for y'. All. They said it's heartbreaking and it's frustrating and that's what a resident, Jason Sanchez told NewJersey.com you just heard the sirens, 5:30, 6 o'. Clock. Just continually more and more people coming in. DeSantis added that the local Starbucks looked as though a bomb went off and the town's beaches were disgusting. After the young youngsters dispersed, it was all over social media. Seniors Skip Day and Long Branch. The Santa said they knew about this. You knew it was coming. I just wish the mayor would have been on top of it. Well, sounds like Mr. Sant if he had 150 officers, 70 from other agencies, he was ready. Cuz it's not like he just call, you know, 150 officers up on a whim. Right. But the this chaos comes as communities up and down the Jersey Shore bracing for Memorial Day weekend. With officials in nearby Seaside Heights calling in federal authorities prepare to prepare for the onslaught of crowds. I didn't think about that, that I mean this was really taken off this year and I guess they're going to do it. They're going to youngsters going to show their ass. I mean look it you5 around and find out the do it where I'm at with my family and you're jumping up and down in my car. Somebody's going to the hospital. Yeah. I mean it just doesn't make any sense. And I would say that in the past I would have said, well try that shit in Louisiana. Well you know what they did and they've done it. And unfortunately the young lady from Lafayette got killed at the mall, Louisiana on the same. And my boy Billy Amy, who's over security at the mall, he's a police officer, sergeant was there on that day and. And it's just unfortunately most of these turn into shootings. Right. So I don't know, I don't know what the answer is to that. I bet if I find my most my kids are grown and gone. But Doves is about to be 16 and let me find his ass in one of those viral crowd things and I'll be like that mama. Years ago that was on the news beating the out of her kid because she was sitting at home and saw him blocking the street and she went out there and got him and whooped his ass in front of all his kids. Maybe we need more of that. You know, I don't know if I've ever talked about this, but I'm a huge fan of boxing and both of my grandfathers boxed in college. One of them boxed for LSU and the other one box for USL when it was usl, now it's ull. And I've always watched boxing since I was a kid. And it used to be the big deals before mma and now boxing isn't as popular and all that. But you know, one of the greats I've got to watch was a Sugar Ray Leonard. And he just, you know, sweetness, he was, he was a badass, right? And now, you know, everybody has. It's time for family matters. Everybody has in their family. Let me see if I can play this for you.
News Reporter
Police were reportedly called to boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard's home after a shocking incident involving his own son. According to reports, sugar Ray Leonard's 25 year old son Daniel Ray Leonard was arrested early Wednesday morning morning in Los Angeles. Authorities say security at the property called 911 after Daniel allegedly tried getting inside the mansion by pulling on exterior door handles. When officers arrived, they reportedly found him near the pool house and immediately placed him under arrest. And here's where the situation gets even crazier. Daniel was allegedly violating an active restraining order connected to the family. For people who don't know, Sugar Ray Leonard is considered one of the greatest boxers of all time, with championships across multiple weight classes and an iconic career spanning the 70s, 80s and 90s. As of right now, no official statement has been released by Sugar Ray Leonard's team, but the Internet is already reacting heavily to the situation, especially after learning it involved his own son.

for hers.com On May 20, 2026, around 5:29am, officers assigned to the West Los Angeles area responded to the 1500 block of a Malfi Drive for a radio call of a restraining order violation. Officers arrived and took the suspect into custody for being a violation of his restraining order and the so his son a manager having to put a restraining order on your own kid. The his son is who's 25 years old, attempted to enter Sugar Ray's home by turning the exterior door handles. The cops responded and they found him, you know, near the pool house like you just heard. But the court records in Los Angeles county indicated that Sugar Ray, the dad recently requested a restraining order against his son. And the authorities have not confirmed whether the order was directly tied to Wednesday's arrest, but he's got a hearing on June 15. But over the years, the father and son duo frequently appear together at high profile public events. And In November of 2023, Leonard posted a heartfelt birthday message to his son on social media. So happy to be with my son Daniel this weekend. I'm so proud of you. Happy birthday. Well, pretty much sure he's not proud of him anymore and he had to put him as his ass in jail. But you got to get a restraining order on your 25 year old son. It's not a good situation. There you go. But seriously, I used to love to watch that dude box. He was a beast. Then I actually watched like a boxing show where they brought in the top prospects in each weight class and Sugar Ray was over the show. I mean that's, to me he's a, he's a classy dude, right? Tell you about this. It's time for effed up professionals. Most of y' all don't know when I left state police that I got a contract with one of the most exclusive jewelry stores in the United States of America and their Rolex dealers and everything else just all super high end has stores in like five different states but it's not a national chain store if you will. It's still a family owned store or stores and but the creme de la creme, right? And you go in there, you're going to get the best service and everything else. But I did all their security work and taught them how to, you know, watch for people that were going to come in and rob them and what to do during robberies. And I work their internal cases and all that. Well, unfortunately there are other, there are shitheads who, who aren't like my former clients. And listen to this.

The Houston Jewelry Buyers Facebook page and website advertise Rolex and Cartier, among other high end luxury goods. But according to law enforcement, everything that shines isn't always the real thing. In newly unveiled court documents, police and prosecutors allege store owner Michael Crouch and a store manager, Victor Manuel Ortega, sold counterfeit jewelry including Rolex watches as well as Louis Vuitton jewelry and cartier bracelets earning anywhere from 150,000 to $300,000 in the process. The pair now facing felony charges.

He asked us to hide his identity to not spoil his upcoming engagement. He's also worried his purchase could be fake. So how do you know you're buying real authentic high end jewelry? Well, I spoke to the experts here at DJP Jewelers to find out what you need to know before you make your next purchase today. The fakes are so good that it's almost impossible to just tell by looking at it. Jeweler Danny Aronov says it's important for you to authenticate any high end purchase. This is a 14 karat gold ring. Most reputable jewelers will have special equipment that can test jewels and precious metals. And if they're on the level, they should offer a free appraisal. Don't let too long to pass until you test the pieces that you buy. Just go and check right away within days and if it's good and fine, if not, then go back and I promise you the shop will give them the, the money back. They don't want to ruin their name for one piece. Tonight, both Crouch and Ortega are out on bond. We tried reaching out to Houston jewelry buyers, but so far we're unable to get anyone. At this point, it's unclear if or when the store is set to reopen. Reporting in Houston, I'm Tracy Bragg, khou.

I'm going to tell you how big of a business it is. The, the fake shit on the stores that I did, the they would have people come in and these are professionals, and actually buy a piece like engagement ring or whatever it may be, diamond earrings, what have you, but a really expensive piece. They would take it out, they would take it home and have someone make the exact fake replica of the piece that they bought. And then they would go back to the store and they'd say, ah, you know what, I don't want these anymore. And the store clerk will refund their money without taking the time to take it up and have the juror in house juror loop it right to make sure it's not a fake diamond or whatever that they're getting back. But it happened all the time in the there's so many different ways that they scam and do. I mean it's just crazy. But if you're going to spend that kind of money, you better believe there's these who will take advantage of you. And that's unfortunate and I hate that, you know, for those people. But it is what it is. It's time for effed up professionals. Tell you about a real From Detroit, Benjamin Wagner. This dude committed these crimes for like 10, 15, 20 years. And the problem with it is he's a cop. And he had a pattern when he allegedly sexually assaulted several women and teenage girls on the streets of Detroit in the late 90s and early 2000s. So the former Detroit police officer was just charged earlier this spring and he allegedly approached each of his victims on the street, pointed a gun at them and then forced them to a more secluded area where he raped them. And this is according to testimony from six different women during a preliminary exam on Monday in the 36th District Court. But he what his ultimate undoing was our friend DNA. And the DNA collected in the rape kits from the victims eventually linked Wagner to each assault. That's according to prosecutors. So Detroit's 36th District Court Judge Sean Jacques found there was enough evidence in all six cases dating from 1999 to 2003, which included six counts of kidnapping, 14 counts of sexual assault, for Wagner to stand trial. Rape, y', all, it's 14 counts of rape. Of the six women who testified in the preliminary hearing, several were teens at the time of the rapes. At least two said they were walking to school when Wagner attacked them. One victim was walking home from work. Several described how Wagner ordered them not to look at him during the raves. And at least two said Wagner pulled them aside to ask what time it was before he pulled the gun on him in quotations. When he put that gun up to my head, I just felt like he was going to kill me or something. And this woman was 23 and walking to the store on January 31st of 2000 when the man DNA identified to be Wagner put a gun to her head, ordered her into a car across the street and raped her, she said. My body was just like shut down. So Wagner's attorney, Robert Kenny, said in each case that the identification of Wagner was an issue, especially because he could not cross examine anyone about DNA testing. Well, in each of the six cases, only the women Wagner raped testified the you don't get to question about the DNA in a preliminary exam, dumbass. You get that's what trial is for. But in 2010, Michigan State Police linked an unknown man's DNA to the Detroit rapes that happened between 99 and 2003. 13 years later. This is why you never give up people. Hashtag what happened to Madison. Bradley Strasner, Austin O', Banion, Ms. Barbara Blunt. Never give up. Thirteen years later, the FBI received a report with a lead that led to a potential suspect in the cases and at the time of the rapes, Wagner, who was a Detroit cop for nearly three decades and he, he finally retired in 2017 and he lived on Bentley street in Detroit. All the rapes happened within about a 5 1/2 miles radius from his house. Wagner, who had moved to Greenville, South Carolina after retiring, was arrested there in March when he was charged so the tab up. One of the women, she's now a 44 year old woman, said she was 17 when Wagner sexually assaulted her on November 10, 1999. She testified she was walking home from work when a man, which DNA tests identified as Wagner pulled her into the alley in Detroit and punted, pointed a gun at her. He stated, fuck, don't look at me if you want to live this, this is what the woman testifying at that moment, she said at that moment I knew something bad was about to happen. I just didn't know the extent of it. Well, thankfully I hate to that you were right, but thankfully you're alive. Wagner repeatedly told her not to look at him, then threw her to the ground and raped her. Woman says she kept thinking I'm about to die. I thought the time usually when things like that happen, when they rape you, they kill you to keep you silence. When he finished, Wagner had her count to 100 before she opened her eyes. And of course he ran like a little bitch during that 100 seconds, right? He's lickety split and then she opens her eyes and she ran to a friend's house and called police. Defense attorney Robert Kenney questioned the woman about several inconsistencies with her 1999 police report and her testimony Monday, including the color of his glasses. Look y' all preliminary exams. It's, it's a free mini trial, free chance for the, the defense to find out everything you have. They will try anything like me. Always got accused of planning evidence and you know, getting false testimony. Whatever the fuck they could do to praying there's some judge on the bench that's gonna be stupid enough to believe it. Well, they're not but he said identification is an issue here. Her description now and her description the night this incident happened is different. Well, it's been 20 years, he said. I think the people are relying on DNA evidence which we don't have right to cross examine right now. No, sir, you don't. This is a preliminary exam, is not a full trial. So let me tell you about another woman. Another woman said she was 16 in April of 2003 when Wagner raped her on her way to school. Swabs from her rape kit matched Wagner's DNA. This according to Wayne County Prosecutor Carly Knox. Wagner stepped in front of her, blocking her path, and he held a gun. She said she thought he was going to rob her, but he told her to throw her purse and book bag on the road. He pulled her into an alley where he raped her.

her to keep her eyes closed and the remain on the ground while he left. She too said she thought she was going to die when she saw the gun. And when she talked to the cops, she said they made her feel like she was the criminal. So she. She said and she felt like no one believed her. But thank God they believe her now. But the defense attorney, Mr. Kenny, continued to question the victim's ability to identify Wagner as a person who attacked them. And it said it's still the biggest issue in the case. And question the woman why the police report did not mention that Wagner forced her to give him oral sex. Okay, if you go in there and a lot of times the victims don't tell the full story right away, right? They're ashamed. They especially if they had to go to the hospital and be suspected to sexual assault, nurse examination, I mean that's like violation on top of violation. They got to scrape all the sperm out of you and everything else. If you didn't say he orally raped you back then, so what? He vaginally raped you. Still rape. He could, he could have put his dick in your ear. It's still rape. It's penetration. Any orifice, no matter how slight. So the woman said she told police about it, but was not sure. Why? It wasn't in the police report. That happens also. So now a 41 year old woman said Wagner raped her when she was 15 years old while she was head school on September 28th of 2000. She said she heard the sound of keys or change behind her, getting closer with every step. When she turned around to see who was behind her, she saw a gun in her face. They call it tunnel vision. Y'. All. Have you ever had a pistol pointed in your face? It's damn hard to see a see who's behind the gun because of the barrel of the gun, which isn't even a quarter inch cross. Looks like it's 10ft. That's all you can see. But the man. Again, the DNA identified him as being Wagner. But he told her, put her head down and don't look at me. He guided her to a house down the street and put a baseball cap over her face. And then he raped her. So once he was done, he said, wait here while I leave. And she did. And when she got up, she went straight to her friend's house. And her friend's mother called the police, right? Repeatedly, again and again. In two other cases, the victim said Wagner asked them each what time it was before he raped them. One of the women, who's 20 years all at time, says she was raped on November 19th of 2000. And she said she was walking home from friend's house around midnight when Wagner approached her, asked her for the time and he told her not to make any noise and pulled her behind a building to a car in a gated parking lot where he raped her. The woman began crying on the witness stand when she spoke about the rape, prompting her family in the courtroom gallery to also start crying. Another case, a victim who was 14 at the time, was on her way to school when she ran into Wagner while trying to get away from another man who was following her. He asked her for the time, right? That's your M.O. that would call you the time rapist. Then he put a gun to her back and told her to go across to a nearby field where she did. And he raped her. She asked him if he wanted her to cover her eyes with the scarf she was wearing, and he said yes. I don't want him to kill me because I knew what he looked like, so that was not. That was my way of not looking at his face. The woman said. When he was done, he got up and told her to count to 100 and not to leave until then. When she reached 100, she took the bus to school and reported the rape. Can you fucking imagine? 14 years old. Wagner has been tried before for rape. A Wayne county jury found him not guilty on five counts of first degree rape in August of 2002. Wagner's stepdaughter had accused him of raping or sexually abusing her over a period of years. And following the not guilty verdict, Wagner suspension ended. And he got to continue to be a police officer until he retired in 2017. Mr. Wagner, you are a piece of shit, bro. And the whole time walking around as a cop. 30 years. Let's give you one more. It's time for family matters. Well, y', all, this one glad since not here, she might cry. Tell you about a guy named Trevor John Huber, and he was sentenced to life without parole for the murder of his mother. Right? And this is in Missouri. So the Missouri man, Missouri man, was sentenced to life without parole for the 2018 murder of his mother. That's bad enough, right? But guess what else he did. He decapitated her. He cut her head off. He was found guilty of murder on Tuesday, May 19, following a bench trial in Dunkin County. Citing a probable calls affidavit, the local KAI reported that Huber called 911 in December of 2018, and he sounded confused. Well, the cops got a response to 911 call. When they got there, Hubert answered the door. He was butt naked. Yeah, Greatest. Greatest show on earth, right? Law enforcement. But he answers calls. 9, 11 sounds confused. Cops got to respond. Opens the door, he's butt naked. Well, the cops gotta investigate a little bit further. And they do. And inside the home, they found Huber's mother, Charlotte Wilson, who was 63 years old and she was missing her head. She'd been decapitated. So naturally, they arrest Huber and guess what? They advise him his rights. And Huber's got diarrhea of the mouth because he's on meth. And he admitted to using methamphetamine. And he said he was concerned he killed his mother. Huber then wrote in a statement, I killed my mother. And he wrote it on a piece of paper. But then he was like, oh, maybe I shouldn't have done that, because he grabs it and he tears it up and he. He eats the piece of paper, right? Anyway, the. The. They said, I want to thank the Duncan County Sheriff's office and the Missouri State Highway Patrol for their professional and diligent work in investigating and solving this homicide and all the cases they handle this according to the Dunk. Dunklin county prosecuting Attorney Nicholas Jane in the local K A I T. Well, you know what? Being high on meth, that was your choice. Stick. And then being high on meth, at what point did you get naked before you cut your mama's head off? Does she come in the room, find you high on meth? I'm not gonna be dirty and say the rest of what I was thinking. And she come in there and find you naked and fuss at you and you cut her head off. Meth is bad people. You know, cutting your mother's head off, pretty sure that's even worse. But that's it for today, this Friday, May 22, 2026. And I know y', all, it's a long holiday weekend, and please enjoy it. And, and remember, it's all about the people who died in the service of this country. It's not Veterans Day. It's not for everybody that served. It's for the people who paid the ultimate sacrifice and never came home. Right? The. The true heroes are the ones who gave their lives. And the old MO Favorite saying is all give some. When you sign up for the military, all give some, but some give all. And I'm thankful we have this holiday to, you know, and it's the kickoff summer, but I'm thankful we have the holiday to celebrate these heroes who gave their lives. So you could, you could either be a saint or you could be a doing one of these viral challenges, or you could be like this guy who cut his mama's head off butt naked and ate up his. Ate his confession. Either way, our country still stands today because of the people who paid the ultimate sacrifice. And I'm Woody Everton, you host a true crime. Time for May 22, 2026, and I love you. Holla at you later. Peace.
