Woody Overton
Hello, everybody, and welcome to this episode of True Crime time for Thursday, May 7, 2026. And I'm Woody Overton, and soon will be joining me. In just a minute, we'll talk about hashtag what happened to Madison. Y' all keep calling in your tips. Keep sharing it. Every time you do a share or a comment on a post about it, do hashtag what happened to Madison. You can go online and see all the different groups that are picking it up. Now the tips are coming in. I know that law enforcement is working on it. I know for a fact they are working on the case or in possibly cases. So keep calling in your tips and you call in tips on on everything. Three one three RLRC tip. And that includes Bradley straight snor case, Austin O' Banion's case, Ms. Barbara Blunt's case. Anything that we've done in the past, that includes Bradley's case, Austin O' Banion's case, Ms. Barbara Blunt's case, Ms. Any of the cases I've covered in the past. 313 RLRC tip. And got to keep pushing. Gotta press in the fight. Real people, real victims, real crimes. All right, on this day in 1896, a con man and America's first serial killer, H.H. holmes, was executed. He is rumored to have anywhere from 27 to 200 victims that he trapped, killed, and disposed of in what. What they are calling his murder castle. Now, the murder castle was said to have torture rooms, shoots, gas chambers, as well as a crematorium in the basement for body disposal. And although many of these details are being disputed, Hones remains a notorious killer in early American history. Wow. Think about that, y'. All. Then that had to really work his case, right? 27 to 200 victims, no cell phones, probably no telephones. Right. And no DNA, no cameras and all that. So that's a hell of a lot of people. How do you get away with it for that long? All right, let's get down to some true crime time for this Thursday. And just in time for the first story, we want to welcome Ms. Cindy Overton.
Cindy Overton
You need to do the applause.
Woody Overton
Yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah. You're right. Back in the saddle again, right, mama?
Cindy Overton
That's right.
Woody Overton
And, y', all, there'll be times, as you know, that it'll be Cindy doing it or me doing it or us doing it together. And just the way it works out, because we got a ton of things going on. Right.
Cindy Overton
I know. I mean, we do do our best, and this is our priority, which is why we still. We have no contractual obligation to push out the episode numbers that we do. We put. We do them because we want to. I'm trying to figure out the best way of saying it. We want to do these episodes for our listeners. We know that we love y' all and we appreciate y', all, so we push out the content in any which way we can. Right. Sometimes it's together, sometimes it's not, but this is.
Woody Overton
You will get the stories and the updates and stores of, like, hashtag, what happened to Madison, what have you.
Cindy Overton
Yeah, right.
Woody Overton
All right, so let's get down to the true crime time for Thursday, May 7th. I want to take you to New York City. I had not heard of this. You heard of speed running?
Cindy Overton
No.
Woody Overton
All right, so. Well, evidently, it's a new shitty, stupid trend that people are doing. Let me see if I can play this video.
Narrator/Reporter
Scientology speed runs are a growing tick tock trend that has the Church of Scientology alleging hate crimes.
On-site Witness 1
Tell me why we were talking about. Oh, have you seen the Scientology race in front of us? Wait, Loki. Why do we want to go? We were supposed to come here for the devil worth Prada soup waffle, But I'm like, we.
Woody Overton
This is mass crowd of people, kids with masks and suits breaking in the buildings.
On-site Witness 2
I saw this man who was dressed in this neon green inflatable costume, and him and a couple of his friends went inside the building from the front door when it was open. And I was in that Taco Bell right there. And I saw them go inside. They passed the security guard. They passed multiple of the workers.
On-site Witness 1
Wait, they're still in there, y'. All.
Woody Overton
Now they're running out.
On-site Witness 1
Wait, so what happened? You guys get in there before?
Woody Overton
No, I did. I didn't want to go, and I've
Cindy Overton
been in here before.
Woody Overton
That was so ragged.
On-site Witness 1
We just pulled up to Hollywood, mind you.
Narrator/Reporter
Videos posted on social media of teens running through the church's information building here on Hollywood Boulevard have racked up millions of views. The LAPD has responded to multiple complaints, and the church this week removed external door handles to its building. As a result,
Woody Overton
they're shown video of a church science hall.
Narrator/Reporter
Scientology spokesman David Bloomberg is accusing these speedrunners of hate crimes and says one of their staff members was injured and needed medical attention as a result of one of these incidents.
Woody Overton
I don't. Y' all let me get out of the video because it's not really covering the way I want to cover it. So the Church of Scientology building in New York City on Saturday became the largest target in a string of nationwide and what they're calling speed running incidents that have gone viral on social media in recent weeks. In a group of use, and they're not used, y', all, they're probably in 18 to 20 or whatever. They broke through a locked door to enter the church on West 36th Street, Manhattan at around 4:30pm and it's according to NYPD, once inside, because you know the parents are just beat their ass once inside. They threw objects, damaged property and injured a staff member. The incident reflects a broader trend which is fueled by tick tock where participants film themselves rushing through the Church of Scientology buildings to see how far they can get before they, before they actually get stopped. Videos tied to the trend have racked up millions of views, including the clips that I just played from the Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles and shows the teens running through the Scientology information Center. And I don't know, y', all, it's it. The. The authorities have responded to multiple complaints tied to the trend. While the Church of Scientology has accused participants of crossing legal lines and putting staff at risk. And I agree, you weren't invited. Don't come running through my building throwing. They said some online have referred to these incidents as speed running. In reality, they involve organized trespass into religious and public information facilities for social media attention. That's what the church is saying.
Cindy Overton
Yeah.
Woody Overton
Church facilities are peaceful spaces designed to welcome parishioners, visitors and members of the public. Turning them into targets for viral stunts is not journalism, protest or civic activity. It is trespass, harassment and disruption of religious spaces. And they said the church welcomes lawful visitors. It does not welcome individuals forcing entry into damaging property, threatening or injuring people, or targeting religious facilities for online attention. And they hadn't even made any arrest yet. But the, this was at the one in, in New York and it followed what they're calling a large scale incident at the church in Los Angeles on April 25th. And you know, the church officials saying they were viewing all available remedies and had made the reports along for law enforcement. I don't understand why this is. This is entertainment. They said this trend appears to have been started by an 18 year old content creator. And in March he posted a video on Instagram which has since been removed, showing himself breaking into a property. And they're saying now he's distant himself from the trend. He said, I do not condone what I did, even though I didn't break any laws. Yeah, you did. And he said, I never once in any video or in any comments section or anywhere promoted the idea of running through there or beating my record. So whatever. And it's, you know, I don't know that much about church, Scientology or whatever it could be. It could be a Catholic church or Jewish synagogue or whatever. They're, you know, stupid is stupid us. And my mama would always say, well, such and such is doing. She said, well, such. Such. Jump off, Ms. River Ridge, would you do it? These kids are literally these days, they
Cindy Overton
will for a click, for a number,
Woody Overton
for enough for stupidity.
Cindy Overton
Yeah.
Woody Overton
And I mean, I just, you know, I think about all the weapons I got when I was a boy, and I deserved everyone of them, no doubt. And with a belt. And some of these just need to be beat with a belt. Yeah. And then of course, nowadays you go to jail for that.
Cindy Overton
So I just read while you were telling the story that the purpose behind it was to expose secrets and secret rooms and stuff like that. Well, when you're doing a speed run, you're not like doing an in depth investigation, like, you know, into the deep secrets of Scientology or secret rooms of Scientology. That's not what this is.
Woody Overton
You know what?
Cindy Overton
And if that is.
Woody Overton
If it's. If it's a secret room, they have it secret for a reason and they own it. It's their shop. Exactly. What's the difference? And somebody having a secret sex room in their house. Right, Right. It's secret for a reason. You have a reasonable expectation of privacy. And you can't just break in.
Cindy Overton
No.
Woody Overton
And you're doing it for what?
Cindy Overton
Well, that's what. I guess my point is their reasoning behind it is still wrong. You know, like unbelievable.
Woody Overton
It is stupid, stupid, stupid. All right, let me. Let me do one more real quick for you. Come in because this is just sad. It's time for Family Matters. Another horrible one. I mean, just unreal. Going to Texas.
News Reporter
Houston police gave us an update here on scene in the last 30 minutes and they believe this is a murder suicide. The Houston Fire Department said four people are dead. A father, pregnant mother and two. Two kids. A four year old girl and eight year old boy. It's absolutely heartbreaking. They tell me both kids were found dead in their beds this afternoon and that the babysitter discovered the family inside the home. Here we are in the River Oaks area along Kingston and Avalon and you can see behind me, this is a pretty active scene. They have this area roped off. We've seen investigators in the crime scene unit here and several Houston police officers. Houston police say they were called here to a home along Kingston street in avalon Place around 5:30 this afternoon for a welfare check. A babysitter and the sister, one of the family members called. Officers arrived on scene and found four people dead inside the home. Houston fire officials say both kids were found dead in their beds and it's unclear at this time what time they were killed. Now we learned the babysitter discovered the family dead inside the home. Authorities say the mother was last seen alive last night. She was actually with a family member at a dinner on Sunday. Now police again believe this is a murder suicide. And they just gave an update. Take a listen. It is shocking, unfortunately. You know, this does look like a family, a family matter. That doesn't make it any better, but you know, it is shocking for sure.
On-site Witness 2
And it's shocking no matter where it happens.
Woody Overton
It doesn't really matter what neighborhood this kind of thing happens.
News Reporter
Exactly. Exactly.
Woody Overton
Well, there you go. The whole family killed. And you know, it's actually. A wealthy restaurateur and a former pharmaceutical CEO fatally shot his pregnant wife and two children before taking his own life. And in a triple murder suicide. And this, police and family members confirmed that Houston restaurant owners Matthew Mitchell, who's 52, his pregnant wife Thigh Mitchell, who's 39, along with their 8 year old daughter and 4 year old son were found dead by the babysitter you heard about. And it appears that the dad killed his wife and children before he shot himself. The. I mean, I don't know, but the, the. Matthew Mitchell, who. Sir? He was the owner and operator of Travelers Table. He. He lived a pretty good life. He's. He. He's the owner and operator Travelers Table. He received a bachelor's degree from Emory University, studied in France, Italy and at Oxford University in England. I mean, the best of the best, right?
Cindy Overton
Yeah.
Woody Overton
And after working as a journalist in London, Paris and New York City, he entered the pharmaceutical industry and led clinical research company Texas center for Drug Development Inc. As the president's CEO. More than 10 years after that, he opened his first restaurant. So Thigh Mitchell, who served as co owner of the Travelers Table and a board member of the Texas Restaurant Association's Houston chapter, grew up in the city as a first generation Vietnamese American. After graduating from the University of Houston and Penn State University, she held human relations leadership roles at three different Fortune 500 companies in the hospitality and retail industries. And they lived in the rich ass neighborhood, River Oaks in Houston. Right. So I don't know that that's, that's sad. You hate that. And then you get killed by your dad and your husband for whatever reason. Yeah, I don't know. I don't know.

Woody Overton
What you got? It's time for effed up professionals.
Cindy Overton
I'm guessing we can kind of assume that the father's going to do that to his family. Family annihilation based off of potentially its financial problems, you know, imminent like in your previous story. I know, who knows. But I'm going to talk to tell y' all about a man in Carrollton, Texas who shot five people and killed two in back to back shootings on Tuesday at a shopping center and then moved to an apartment building because he was angry over business dealings.
Woody Overton
Right.
Cindy Overton
So the first shooting happened just before 10am at the shopping center in a Korean town neighborhood in a suburb north of Dallas. The Carrollton Police Department said that when they arrived they found four adults had been shot. And while they were investigating, another shooting was reported at an apartment complex roughly four miles away. One plus one Rule so then the responding officers found a dead man inside one of the apartments at the apartment complex. Investigators then determined that 69 year old Seung Ho Han carried out both of the shootings and he was arrested at a nearby grocery store after a short chase on foot. Police say that he acknowledged that he was the shooter in the interview with detectives and said he was angry at the people he shot because of financial disagreements.
Woody Overton
So that when I get angry about anybody, it could be the bank or whatever, I should just go shoot them. I guess that's how it works.
Cindy Overton
So they said it obviously was not a random act of violence and the attacker knew the people that were fatally shot and it was a known business relationship. And investigators said that they're just trying to work to identify what caused his actions. The three people that were injured in the shooting are in stable condition and the names of the victims haven't been released. But shortly after the shooting, officers had their guns drawn and they were walking past doors at K Town Plaza, which is in Carrollton and also known as Koreatown. And agents from the FBI, you know, came in as part of the law enforcement team and they were collecting evidence. And of course, now they interviewed people, and, of course, everyone's shocked. And Koreatown has grown into a thriving, you know, area, and they just didn't expect anything like this.
Woody Overton
Well, that's. And where do you expect it at? You know, it's just craziness. And at least they got him. And then. And even though he confessed, it doesn't mean dick. And that he'll still get his attorney and plead not guilty and fight it for however long. Right, Right. And you know what? We seem to be stuck in the state of Texas today, other than the story about the. Whatever that running trend is. The. We're going to Huntsville, Texas. You know what's in Huntsville?
Cindy Overton
A prison.
Woody Overton
Mm. And what else?
Cindy Overton
That's all I know.
Woody Overton
The death chamber.
Cindy Overton
Well, that's part of the prison to me. I mean, do I need to. There's. Okay.
Woody Overton
Yeah. So we're going to Huntsville. And a north Texas man who claimed he wasn't the shooter in a fatal robbery that killed two people nearly 18 years ago in who said prosecutors misused rap lyrics he wrote to secure his death sentence. Guess what? They got it. Because he was executed on Thursday evening. James Broadnax was pronounced dead at 6:47pm after they pushed that lethal injection in him. Right. And of course, this we're talking about the state penitentiary in Huntsville, which is about 70 miles north of Houston. I've actually been there. Texas prisons just have a different feeling. And then I've been in all the Louisiana prisons. I can't explain it. The you don't want to go to Texas prison. You just certainly don't want to be on death row in Texas. But this dude was condemned for the 2008 shooting deaths of two men outside a suburban Dallas music studio. Now, the prosecutors say Broadneck and his cousin, Damaris Cummins, fatally shot and rob Stefan Swan and Matthew Butler in the parking lot of Butler's recording studio in Garland, which is not far from Dallas. Right. Cummings was sentenced to life without parole. But Broadnax, he around and found out about going to Texas trial, and he got the ultimate penalty, but he was defined, you know, the willing man. You got your last statement. You got. They got to read the death warrant and everything. And you have any final words? He's like, yeah, I got something to say. And he was defined in his final statement, in which he also sought forgiveness from relatives of the victims in the crime. So the execution, then. This is kind of unusual because the usual. Those rooms are silent. You have the family on one side, and the victims on the other side, they said the execution was punctuated by screams of I love you from his wife, who was among the witnesses for the punishment. The Prosecutor said Broadnax, 37 years of age, confessed to the shooting. And he told reporters during jailhouse interviews that he said, quotations. I pulled the trigger and I've got no remorse.
Cindy Overton
Well, right.
Woody Overton
So earlier Thursday, the U.S. supreme Court denied a request by Broadneck's attorneys to stop his execution. Well, they, you know, they got to try. Right. His lawyers had focused his finals appeals on two issues. Cummins had recently confessed to being the shooter, meaning the guy that's doing life. Well, then that's the oldest trick in the book. The you're already conf. You know, doing life for the same crime. Your boy's about to ride the needle. Yeah. And then like, over and over, you know what? You can't kill him because I actually shot him. So the. Let me. I'm going to tell you how it worked out for him. So Cummings confesses to being the shooter. And the second part of the appeal was Broadneck's constitutional rights were violated because prosecutors eliminated potential jurors during his trial on the basis of race. They love to play the race card, whether it's white, black, Hispanic, it doesn't matter. They said quotations. I'm really going to tell it like it's supposed to be told. I'm going to really tell it like it's supposed to be told, that it was me, that I was a killer. I shot Matthew Bullard. Steven Swan. This is Cummings again, y', all, and he's already doing life for it. And he said that from a prison video which he created as part of the efforts to stop Broad next his execution. Now, Broadnex's attorney said in the court filings with the highest court that Cummings confession is corroborated by the fact that his DNA and not Mr. Broadnax was found on the murder weapon in the pocket of one of the victims. Doesn't matter. Right. And if he was still there, he still got it. Cummings took a plea to save his life. Broadnecks once roll it take took the to trial. But in the film, Broadnek said his confession was false because at the time, he didn't care about his life. Yeah. So. Yeah. Yes, sir, Mr. Detective. I killed them. I know. I'm going for the death penalty. I'm guilty. Yeah. Now you're looking at the needle. You scared like a little bitch. So anyway, Broadnext's lawyers say he was under the influence of drugs during the television interviews, whatever. But he also apologized to the families of Butler and Swann for taking part in the robbery. He said I wish I could show them my soul so they could just see how sorry I am. I am very much remorseful for everything that happened. Well, you can't do that, sir. And you got yours. His attorneys also say the prosecutors dismissed all seven potential black jurors on the basis of their race. And they utilized a spreadsheet during jury selection that bolded only the names of every black juror. So one black juror was later reinstated to a jury guess. And of course broadnext was black. So the y', all it doesn't happen like that. I'm just telling you it doesn't. The each side has so many strikes and the judge can do it for whatever reason. The there's actually a cause and I saw it in Courtney's case Courtney Coco's case when Hugo Holland the actually challenged the lacour for on the basis of race he said that's the third one that he's discontinued. He had given his calls but they're all of the same race now let him explain to the court why he's dismissing because you get your strikes, but if you just. If you're just crossing off every black person on the jury, you had the other side has the right to challenge. So why are you doing that?
Cindy Overton
Yeah, that's your favorite part of the trial too. I mean because it's so thorough and in depth and you know, that's the trust. You can trust that process so much
Woody Overton
shit that goes into it. In 1986, a rule of notice ruling known as Batson burst Kentucky the US Supreme Court determined that excluding jurors because of their race violated the equal protection clause of the 14th Amendment. And they're right. Right if you can prove it. Rodnax attorneys had argued in an earlier appeal that prosecutors have violated his constitutional rights by using some of the rap lyrics he wrote to portray him as a violent and dangerous person in order to secure a death sentence. Now, a number of a list rappers including Travis Scott T.I. and Killer Mike K I L L E R Mike had filed briefs at the supreme court in support of broaden access appeal.
Cindy Overton
Because we just writing lyrics to write
Woody Overton
lyric I mean but the high court rejected their and and they as well as another that focused on how forensic evidence was presented to trial. Look y' all I'm glad. I'm GLAD it took 18 years. I'm glad they went through every little piece. But even though this dude confessed right to do it now. He's saying well I was lying because I just didn't care about my life. Well guess what. You around and find out now. You went through the process, you had your 18 years and every kind of appeal you can imagine and you lost. So the Texas attorney general's office described Cummings, remember his, his buddy is doing life confession as a shooter as questionable new evidence said. It also said in court documents that Broadneck's claims that potential black jurors were targeted for removal are entirely meritless as these jurors were stricken not because of race but because of their answers during questioning including some that oppose the death penalty. Okay. So they. Okay, we're excluding them because this is a death penalty case and they ask yeah you if you have a problem with administering putting somebody to death for these crimes. Yeah I do. But you can't be on the jury.
Cindy Overton
Exactly. Because it's the death penalty case.
Woody Overton
Right. So Teresa Butler, who Matthew Butler's mother had asked that the execution proceed. The victim's mom quotations. This so called confession from Cummins is just a stall tactic by Broadnecks desperate defense team. It's all a lie. And she wrote this in a post on social media. Broadnext was the third person put to death this year in Texas and the 10th in the country. Texas has historically held more executions than any other state. I think Florida is running it this year. Yeah. So about an hour before Broadnex's execution on Thursday, Florida put to death James ernest hitchcock who's 70 for beating and choking his 13 year old step niece to death.
Cindy Overton
Geez.
Woody Overton
And I know it's a lot but it's important. And yeah, I know there have been some people who have been exonerated on death row and I love that. Right. Don't kill an innocent man or whatever but the, the length of the pills and how much money it costs and all that. You know why? Because it's worth it. We don't want to kill an innocent person. But they killed innocent people.
Cindy Overton
Exactly.
Woody Overton
And raped them and tortured them and whatever.
Cindy Overton
Yeah.
Woody Overton
So what you got in the system?
Cindy Overton
You always say the system isn't perfect but it's the best one.
Woody Overton
It's the best in the world. If you don't like it, move where
Cindy Overton
they're going to cut your arms off.
Woody Overton
Right. Move somewhere five foe. Look around and find out how they do it in Belize.
Cindy Overton
Yeah. Yeah. Well I'm going to take us to Virginia.
Woody Overton
Yeah, we can. Out of state Texas.
Cindy Overton
Yeah. This is kind of interesting for the chart the charge a Marion man, he's 38 years old, was sentenced to 21 years in a Virginia penitentiary for drug charges. And this was the charge. One count of distribution of fentanyl as a weapon of terrorism.
Woody Overton
Really?
Cindy Overton
Yeah. I thought that was interesting.
Woody Overton
Probably like sent it in and I would guess I don't know what the story's gonna be. That'd be like mailing it in and I mean, remember big Billy Amy, 6 foot 4, got one little touch of the powder on with his skin and knocked him out. They would have killed him. So if you mail it in to
Cindy Overton
whomever like they used to do, what was the white powdery. We always were so afraid. Yes.
Woody Overton
But this is. This should have been.
Cindy Overton
This is real.
Woody Overton
10 times more deadly. Yeah.
Cindy Overton
So the man's name is Anthony Charles Scott. And as I said, he was 38 years old of Cleghorn Valley. And he was convicted and sentenced to 21 years in the Smith County Circuit Court after undercover narcotics agents conducted four controlled purchases of methamphetamine from Scott during a two week period in July of 2025. The Commonwealth said that agents seized more than 180 grams of methamphetamine and nearly 6 grams of fentanyl. And he was charged with four counts of distribution of drugs, two counts of trafficking methamphetamine into the Commonwealth and one count of distribution of fentanyl as a weapon of terrorism. Now when he is released, because he's only sentenced to 21 years, is that day for day or a good time
Woody Overton
or different by state?
Cindy Overton
Well, he's only 38, so he will be released in his lifetime. Unless he gets killed up in there or something like that.
Woody Overton
Yeah.
Cindy Overton
He will then face a additional 189 years of suspended prison time conditioned upon.
Woody Overton
He's not going to live that long. Right.
Cindy Overton
Strict compliance with supervised probation.
Woody Overton
Hey, shout out to John Rohner, the head of probation parole for our area. He and I worked together at Southeastern. He retired this week.
Cindy Overton
So Scott will then have $7550 in fines and restitution to the Smith County Sheriff's Office. In addition, the court seized $2,328 from Scott that he acquired during his drug trafficking.
Woody Overton
Yeah, so there you have it. Right.
Cindy Overton
I think that's a really cool charge as an act of terror because it is that.
Woody Overton
I think we should continuously upgrade our charges. Just like I remember when we arrested the first dope dealer and actually charging for the murder of those three boys because he sold them the day. Right, right. And that's been 30 years ago now. But, yeah, fuck you up, up the charges, right?
Cindy Overton
It is terrorism.
Woody Overton
Let the court throw it out. All right, I got something kind of strange. I mean, you know what? Let's just make it a twofer. It's time for worldwide crime. Guess what, though. It is time for worldwide crime. But guess where else we're going back to today?
Cindy Overton
Texas.
Woody Overton
Absolutely, Texas. The. I remember now. Louisiana was the last state, and this was the last a lot of things. We were last to raise a drinking age from 18 to 21, which is a sin. Driver's license. Oh, well, I grew up. I agree with that because I think if you're old enough to die for your country, old enough to drink a beer. But the. The. We were also the last state to get rid of. What? Come on, Sam. Where we.
Cindy Overton
Can I get a hint?
Woody Overton
It has to do with gambling.
Cindy Overton
I have no idea.
Woody Overton
I went to one when I was a teenager and I was really, really drunk and I kept calling it. You don't know this story.
Cindy Overton
I should know this. I know it all.
Woody Overton
It was Peanut and Casey that took me in to one, but it was legal back then.
Cindy Overton
A whorehouse?
Woody Overton
No, whorehouses have never been legal in Louisiana, by the way. They're called brothels. But no, it was fighting.
Cindy Overton
Oh, my gosh. I know that story.
Woody Overton
But I kept saying, we're going. We're going to the. The chicken fights. Chicken fights. Well, it's not chickens that fight naturally. It's roosters. I. I listen to this crazy story here, and there's planes and trains and automobiles and worldwide crime, and I'll tell you why. So Korean Air.
Cindy Overton
Okay.
Woody Overton
Right. Yes. Korea's got to have their own airplane company. Korean Air has banned roosters on flights from the US to the Philippines because they got a report that found a large swath of Texas is tightly tied to supplying birds for cock fighting in the Asian nation. I know it's crazy as. Listen. So according to the airline, the decision was based on care for the safety of animals. Now, while fighting is illegal in the US Breeding and selling roosters for agriculture or other benign purposes is not. So, Korean Air, this is what they're saying. In a statement to Fox Local, Korea Air said the suspension applies to all roosters, regardless of age. Age of the rooster. Who in the. Is flying a rooster on. On the airplane?
Cindy Overton
I'm just picturing, like a bus in Mexico that has like, you know, all of it. But on a plane.
Woody Overton
Right.
Cindy Overton
Going across the world.
Woody Overton
Right. And so Korean Air, I mean, how much of them are. They were. So anyway, Korean Air has suspended the transportation roosters of all ages on routes from the United States Philippines. Korean Air is firmly committed to lawful and safe transport of live animals in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. Well, here's the backstory. Some months ago an animal rights nonprofit called Animal Wellness Action, or awa released an in depth report calling an area including North Texas the primary hub of illegal cockfighting in the nation with multiple reports of rooster breeders taking their animals to the Philippines for that purpose. Now the report claims Korean Air was the airline of choice for such operations. I mean Korea, I guess Korean Air doesn't check for live fucking roosters.
Cindy Overton
They do now, right?
Woody Overton
So that what they're saying is say we are grateful to Korean Air for giving us an audience and allowing us to present the mass of information revealing that the company was being rooked by US cockfighters pretending to be farmers and benign breeders, but who have been supplying fighting birds to the Philippines every year by the tens of thousands and directly participating in the fights themselves. And this is what the group said. And on Monday after Korea Air's announcement stop. It's let me tell you something the I don't know if they are not aware of this, but you don't have to have a rooster to have an egg. And if you're sending 10,000 roosters a year on Korean Air only I know but why wouldn't that raise a flag before. I mean the Anyway, so going to local local perspective, the report came from the AWA in October 2025 saying a stretch of the US land from Tulsa, Oklahoma to Dallas and stretched as far east as the Tyler Longview area is known as the Texoma Fighting corridor.
Cindy Overton
Nice, right?
Woody Overton
We got to be famous for some and according to the nonprofit Texas, where cocks fighting is illegal, serves as the massive supplier of birds to areas where the violence sport is popular and profitable, including the Philippines. One large breeder of the birds near Dallas North Texas Livestock Shipping company is noted in the report as specializing in trafficking fighting birds to the Philippines. They and other breeders are reportedly known to use commercial airlines to send roosters to Asia explicitly for cockfighting. And according to the non profit, these breeders rear their birds for the sole purpose of fighting. Those birds are then sold for as much as $2,000 each. Well they got to be making money somehow because they ain't laying eggs, right?
Cindy Overton
Yeah.
Woody Overton
The Philippine authorities reported more than 12 billion in wagering on cock fighting in 2022 and it's legal there. The the report says and the large events are like listen this the world slasher Cup.
Cindy Overton
Why don't they just make that illegal?
Woody Overton
It's another country. They like said in the last story they don't like it here. Move over there, find out how they live. And right. They said the World Slasher cup can see nightly sums as high as $600,000 change hands over the sport. These, they're doing it online. They're in a. Yeah, they're in a ring stadium. Yeah. So they said cockfighting enthusiasts also breed and train and then export tens of thousands of roosters to Guam, Mexico, in the Philippines and other nations despite federal laws banning such shipments. So the, I mean it just goes on and on and on and I don't have to. But they said while cockfighting is illegal in all 50 US states, arrests for the illicit sport are not uncommon within and around that Texoma fighting corridor. And in just the past year the Fox local station in Texas have produced at least a half dozen new stories on large scale fighting rings being broken up in the state, often leading to numerous arrests and dozens of rescue animals. Crazy as fuck right now. It was just a way in the south for so long and slowly state started abandoning over the years. But the what's really took place of it and you ban it, people are still going to do it. It's just like drugs or, or let me know how prohibition worked out for you in the twenties. Right? And it didn't.
Cindy Overton
No.
Woody Overton
And, but you know I'm not against roosters and. But if you're breeding them for $2,000 a piece, I don't know how much a ticket costs from Dallas to the Philippines, but I'm sure it's not cheap.
Cindy Overton
Why don't they just get a private plane?
Woody Overton
They're probably gonna find that they're doing that next, right?
Cindy Overton
Yeah.
Woody Overton
10,000 a year.
Cindy Overton
But you have women Korean airlines shoved up their coochie.
Woody Overton
Yeah.
Cindy Overton
Open that, it's a rooster.
Woody Overton
Not even a 50, 50 chance of that sin. I don't think that's going to work out. But, but I was gonna say what was always egregious to me. I don't say I don't really care about resource because I don't don't really do anything feel one way about it one way or another. But what always bothered me is the dog fighting rings we busted. That is horrible. I mean I guess a rooster is an animal too. Yeah, roosters need love too.
Cindy Overton
Yeah.
Woody Overton
The cocks need love.
Cindy Overton
Let's have a snake fight. I don't give a f about a snake.
Woody Overton
I tell you what, those, those roosters they put razor blades on their. On their. Not paws. What do you call them? Feet? And the. I bet you one of these highly trained roosters from the Texaco fighting area of Texas will a snake up.
Cindy Overton
Yeah, but that. Yeah,
Woody Overton
slice them up. Y' all did that? I didn't. I don't think I shared the video online. The. You were in the office the other day, and. And you heard a loud noise, and. Right outside the window. Yep. And you looked out. What'd you see?
Cindy Overton
I looked out, and I saw a snake whipping around in our air conditioner unit.
Woody Overton
One of the two air conditioning units that are together.
Cindy Overton
Yes.
Woody Overton
So you turned it off. Turned it off, came out and got me. And I went over there, and I actually took a video of it, y'. All. And I posted. I could not see the snake. All I could see was on the fan blades, and all around the top was innards. And, I mean, this was on pulverized. Like, if you put fruit into a blender and pulverize it, that's what it looked like. They called my AC guy, and he said, that happens every day. Yeah, I'm like, snake had a. I mean, I guess the AC was off.
Cindy Overton
Yeah, it was off. And so when it came on, it just started. I don't know. But I went out there first before I went and got you, because I wanted to see how bad the damage was. And I couldn't see that high. So you saw my stool that I put there? And I saw a chunk of meat. Well, I knew it was a snake, but I just didn't know how bad the damage was. So I saw a chunk of meat on the side of the air conditioner, but I couldn't see inside of it. And then I was freaked out. Cause I was like, well, what if it's still alive?
News Reporter
And.
Cindy Overton
And that's when I went and got you the.
Woody Overton
It was consistency of grape jelly. And those. So those blades, too. Yeah, yeah. Those blades would be like the rooster blades on their thing with that snake. 5. 0.
Cindy Overton
Yeah.
Woody Overton
