We have other cities also that are bad, very bad. You look at Chicago, how bad it is. You look at Los Angeles, how bad it is. We have other cities that are very bad. New York has a problem. And then you have, of course, Baltimore and Oakland, we don't even mention that anymore. They're so far gone. When the president was in office during his first term, we had a lot more violence. We had over 300 homicides in those years, Right? But the president didn't say he was going to send in fruits then. The president didn't say he was going to help the city out then. None of that happened during his first term.

Hey, this is Al. And I'm sure it is no surprise to you that President Trump doesn't like us very much. He called the press the enemy of the people, credentialed journalists have been banned from press briefings just for asking tough questions. Trump personally sued news networks, demanding billions. And now, at his urging, Congress has voted to gut all federal funding for public broadcasting. And I think I know why. I think we all do. It's because real journalism brings sunlight, scrutiny, accountability. When power feels threatened, it lashes out. And that tells you just how vital independent reporting is. Right now here at Reveal, we don't answer to billionaires or politicians or special interests. We only answer to you, our listeners. But we can't do this alone. Stand with us. I'm Al Letson. When you hear the name Baltimore, it often comes with some baggage. And it's true that for decades, the city was one of the country's most dangerous. It's often portrayed that way in shows and movies. But there's another side to Baltimore that people don't see. And recently, a new storyline about the city is being written. Over the last few years, Baltimore has been witnessing a remarkable drop in violent crime, especially homicides. But that progress doesn't seem to matter to the White House. President Trump recently sent the military into Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. and plans to send troops to Memphis. Baltimore could be next. Last month, he listed the city as one of several led by Democratic mayors, where he's considering sending the National Guard for what he says would help address crime. And it's a move that Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott says is not only unnecessary, but a distraction from the violence prevention strategy he helped set in motion. Now, the mayor is extremely busy, so I caught up with him as he was traveling earlier this month. Mayor Scott, how you doing today?
