Joel Anderson
guy no one knows, be careful.
Van Lathan
I wish Nikki loved me more than anyone in the entire world.
Joel Anderson
Who you wish for? Obsession is 96% fresh on rotten Tomatoes.
Van Lathan
I love you so, so, so, so much.
Joel Anderson
It's blood soaked nightmare fuel.
Billy Gill
What kind of spills you put on her?
Joel Anderson
You have been warned. Obsession. Rated R under 17, animated without parent only theaters May 15 with special engagements in Dolby Foreign.
Tate Frazier
Welcome to Ring your tailgate. I'm your host, Tate Frazier. It's the Wednesday edition of the show. As you know, we got a lot to get to in an FL draft. We're going to break it all down, but first and foremost, let's say what's up to our guys. Van Lathan in studio. What's up, Van?
Joel Anderson
You know how we do it.
Van Lathan
The custom continues. Raise that.
Joel Anderson
And we need to raise the roof spiritually and energetically for our brother Tate today who actually has a migraine. He got a migraine. I learned that when I jumped on. He's got. He's playing hurt, man.
Van Lathan
He doesn't feel good.
Tate Frazier
Yeah, working right now. You mentioned Scotty Pippen. He's done it before, you know, a lot of people have played through migraines before, you know, so this is a show where we got to fight through it and we're going to have fun. And I feel like laughing might be good for the migraine. So that's the joy and the hope and the reason that this is possible is because we got Joel Anderson, also in the TCU sweatshirt. Joel, you're gonna make me laugh. I feel better.
Van Lathan
I was up, man. Yeah, man. Thing you said Scottie Pippen and this is crazy that that's the guy you went to because Van had given you the example of Terrell Davis playing through a migraine. Scotty. Game seven, Eastern Conference finals, 1990 versus Detroit Pistons. That was the last playoff series that Michael Jordan in the Bulls. Well, no, because they lost to in 1995 to the Orlando Magic in the Eastern Conference finals as well.
Tate Frazier
That was when Jordan came back wearing 45. Changed three.
Van Lathan
Yeah, it counts. It counts, it counts, it counts. He could have got his ass in the finals by the Rockets just like the. The Magic did, though, I'll tell you that.
Joel Anderson
Actually, I'll be honest with you. I'm not so sure that a healthy Bulls team wouldn't have lost. Like, when I say a healthy Bulls team, I mean like they were healthy, but like a Bulls team. That Bulls team with Michael having played a Full season and even in his prime wouldn't have lost to the Rockets because when they were playing the Rockets during a regular season in those two years, the Rockets were giving the Bulls the business. It might have been a bad matchup.
Van Lathan
Yeah, I think it was. I think it was a bad matchup for him. And I mean, you know, that's what. That's what the Rockets believe. And I'm trying to remember. I feel like Robert Ory said that he. Because he played with, you know, everybody, and he said something about, you know, one of the former Bulls players from that time said, you know, we had nothing for dream. You know, that would. That was a bad matchup for us. So I really think they would have thumped their ass if they'd had their shot.
Joel Anderson
Okay. A thumping ass. It sounds like 227. So we. We.
Van Lathan
We.
Joel Anderson
Just accept the joke. Okay, hold on for a second before we get into the show.
Van Lathan
Yeah.
Joel Anderson
Because I'm a derail the show in several different ways. That team did not have Dennis Rodman. It would be interesting to see if a Dennis Rodman Bulls team in 96 or whatever, how they would have stacked up that team in. In95 did not have Dennis Rodman. Dennis Rodman wasn't there yet, and I think the Horace Grant was already gone. So. But this is a question, okay. Is Hakeem Olajuwon better all time, greater all time, than Nicola Jokic?
Van Lathan
Yes. No question.
Tate Frazier
I say yes still. Yeah. Maybe not by the end of. Not the end of Jokic's career, possibly, but for right now, I think Elijah wants ahead of him.
Van Lathan
What do you think then?
Joel Anderson
I don't think it's that close. I honestly don't. Like. I. I honestly don't think it's that close. It's. Jokic is skilled and in all the ways, but Jokic is phenomenal. Let me do all the. I'm. I work for the ringer. So, guys. So I have to. So I have to give all the superlatives about Jokic. He sees the court like Magic bird fucking Nash Jr. He shoots it like Steph Curry slash motherfucking Dirk Klay Thompson, who shoots at everything, apparently. Wow.
Van Lathan
He, like.
Joel Anderson
He, like. Jokic is the greatest that's ever lived. He is a great cook. Jokic is a great statesman. Jokic is able to do math, and he's. He's a scientific mind. All of these things are true of Jokic. However, with. With Hakeem Olajuwon number one, he took a team with no other hall of Famers on it to a championship two out of the fifth. Se. So him, him and Yis both did that, but he was a dog also on a defensive side. Yeah. The one thing that Yic does better than Hakeem Olajuwan is pass the ball. If we're talking about like and at their peak when we're. They're rebounding, defense, scoring for sure. I like, to me, I don't know, Yis is a pretty amazing scorer as well. I don't, I don't think that Yis has gotten to where Hakeem Olajuwan is quite yet. I don. Think that he has, bro. I think there's a gap there.
Van Lathan
Well, yeah, if you, especially if you consider defense with dream. You talking about maybe one of the, I mean some people could argue the best defensive big man of all time. Right. Like he leads the. He's a career leader and blocks. He, I think he's the only center that's top 10 in steals.
Joel Anderson
Steals.
Van Lathan
Steals. Yeah. Like it's something crazy like that. I watched him lock up so many big dudes and defend the rim back in his day. I mean, again, a lot of people just think basketball is scoring and shit and that's great. And he's. Jokic is obviously amazing at that. He's one of the best scorers that has ever existed. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. But if defense matters in basketball, then to Vance Point, it's not fucking close.
Joel Anderson
So I'll tell you this. We talk defensively. Do you know how many blocks per game dream average in 1989? Yes, yes, yes. 3.5, 4.6 blocks a game.
Van Lathan
Yeah, it's crazy.
Billy Gill
Yeah.
Joel Anderson
24, 14 and 5. Basically 4.6 blocks a game with two steals a game.
Van Lathan
Beating shit to the glasses.
Joel Anderson
Two steals a game. Then he gets up to the point to where you know, he never averaged more than 27.8 points a game in the season. So, you know, obviously we've seen Jokic score more than that, but I think I personally.
Tate Frazier
Less possessions back then.
Van Lathan
Yeah, less possessions.
Joel Anderson
A whole nine. Like I, I, I personally think that Hakeem, Hakeem Olajuwon and his combination of skills is the best center I've ever seen when he was at his peak.
Van Lathan
And if a king played in this era, he would be stepping back and taking those threes. Like he took a lot of long twos. Cause that's what you did back then, right? But he would have had the range he had. His shooting stroke was true. I think it was always like 75. Anywhere between 75 and 80% from the free throw line. So he was a good shooter. So, yeah, he would have been able to hit from 3, 2 if he had played in this era. So, Yeah, I don't know.
Tate Frazier
Also some of the best footwork we've ever seen in the post.
Van Lathan
Kobe had to pay respect. Yeah, Kobe had to pay respect. You know what I'm saying? All of them.
Tate Frazier
So Giannis go play.
Van Lathan
Who was it recently? Didn't. Did Wimby go. Somebody recently.
Tate Frazier
Yeah, Wimby. It feels like every single, like, group that has. There's like a certain group of guys that like, know we're like, I gotta go work with Elijah Wyan, learn how to play out of the post, learn mid post, low post, high post, all that sort of stuff.
Van Lathan
Yeah, it's the indication that you took your offseason serious. Like, I feel like it's like the video with Aena, like, oh, yeah, he worked out hard this summer.
Tate Frazier
LeBron worked out with them after 2011.
Van Lathan
Yeah.
Joel Anderson
See, Dwight Howard worked out with him. Did nothing. Okay. Shout out to white man. Great, great hall of Fame player.
Tate Frazier
Yeah. Incredible player. One more thing we want to shout out before we get into our reactions. We're going to talk NFL drafts, as I said, but we're going to be all out in LA coming up this week. Joel's flying out on Friday. Billy Gill flying out on Friday. Yeah, man, we got some fun stuff happening this weekend. Shout out to ucla. Sounds like we got some, some things in the work, potentially spring game coming up this weekend.
Van Lathan
So it's crazy, you know, because I know that I'm leaving in a few days, but it just never occurred to me that all that's happening this weekend. You guys kept saying this weekend, this weekend. What the fuck you talking? What's happening this weekend? I was like, oh, shit, I'm actually going to be in la, man. Crazy.
Joel Anderson
Oh, on Monday you guys can come to my standup set.
Van Lathan
Really?
Joel Anderson
You.
Tate Frazier
You.
Joel Anderson
I'm doing standup at Netflix as a joke on Monday night. You guys gotta come to my stand up set.
Van Lathan
Oh, yeah. You know what? I have this because I was gonna mention that because. Yeah, I was gonna see if you were going to invite us or not.
Tate Frazier
I was gonna say, did you invite Joel to come on stage with you? I think that's the big thing.
Van Lathan
I don't want to go say something with. Do that, though.
Tate Frazier
No, we're gonna go there, we're gonna support.
Van Lathan
Yeah, we should definitely see. I was gonna say we should just do a tailgate family dinner, man, because I want to meet Riley. I want to meet Kalika. You know what I'm saying? Does everybody. Does everybody come out in confab? You know, I was thinking we might do something like that, you know?
Billy Gill
Yeah.
Van Lathan
Nobody's committed. This is the LA that I'm feeling right here. Y' all not gonna. It'll be just like, yeah, man. We hang out all the time. Cam Johnson was there. Tommy Alta. Y' all gonna bring that up again? I don't feel like it's gonna happen, but that's okay.
Joel Anderson
I'm into it. I love it.
Tate Frazier
We're going to have a nice dinner. We're having a nice time.
Van Lathan
We'll go to Netflix as a joke, and then we'll just play it by here.
Tate Frazier
Monday night's happening. Saturday is happening, Friday night. You get in. You and Billy are staying at the same hotel.
Van Lathan
Same hotel.
Tate Frazier
Speaking of Billy, Van, I don't know if you've noticed this, but in our text, we had the text bros, obviously, where we all text and have a great time, but we also have a few other chains out there. And Joel has been sending messages, I think, to the wrong chain. He's been sending it to you and our boss, Bill Simmons, as opposed to Billy Gill. So he's been cutting out Billy Gill, asking questions, and not sending it to Billy, but instead sending it to Bill and Billy. You seem a little upset about this.
Billy Gill
I mean, from Joel, of all people. Who's accusing people of having text chains behind their back?
Van Lathan
No.
Billy Gill
I'm kind of wondering what's up here.
Van Lathan
That was.
Tate Frazier
What's going on?
Van Lathan
That wasn't behind your back. But it is funny because, I mean, Bill just has no. He's like, I'm not answering that at all. I have no. He's like, I don't. I don't talk to Joel in my off time. I'm not gonna do it. So. But. Cause I asked Bill on that thread, I was like, yo, Van, what's your favorite LSU quarterback all time? Tate, who's your favorite LSU quarterback all time'? And I said, billy, feel free to chime in with whoever the great FIU quarterback is. And we didn't get a response. And I was just thinking. I was like, what's Billy doing? He's so busy, he can't respond. But it turned out it was to Bill.
Tate Frazier
It would have been great if Bill answered his favorite FU quarterback.
Van Lathan
Yo, Yo. He could have gone, holy cross. I thought about following up and being like, yo, what's up? Bill doesn't really respond to my text, and I I don't know. Here's the thing.
Tate Frazier
He was on the show last week. Joel. Yeah. Responded?
Joel Anderson
No.
Van Lathan
And I'm going to. I want to see him. You know what's funny? It's just, like, I don't think my funny is his funny. You know what I mean? Like, I don't think I make Bill laugh.
Joel Anderson
What do you mean by this?
Van Lathan
He never follows up on my text. That's what I mean. I'll say something, and it'll be kind of just sit there, and I'm like, damn. Was it. I swear to God, I'll be like, that must have not been funny or. It didn't. Bill didn't think it was funny.
Joel Anderson
So what you're saying is you say something, Bill doesn't laugh or respond, and then you question yourself.
Van Lathan
Yep. You know, my therapist said something. What did he. Oh, what did she say? It was something about rejection sensitivity. That's what my. My therapist said. That's something that I need to be aware of in particular. So I'm working on it. You know, rejection sensitivity, it's tough.
Tate Frazier
It is tough. But, yeah, I just wanted to bring that up because I think Billy felt a type of way about that. Yeah, it sounds like it was on accident, so we'll let it slide, you know?
Van Lathan
Look, man, I'm excited to see Billy, man. We staying at the same hotel. We both coming from the east coast to be out there in la, man. You know, we should. I should. You know, we hop in the cab and just go do something, you know, in Hollywood. We're gonna be standing in the Hollywood area, man. Wait, what?
Joel Anderson
What?
Billy Gill
Don't tell us where you're staying. Yeah.
Van Lathan
Oh, my bad. Well, I mean, how many hotels in Hollywood?
Tate Frazier
It's a good amount.
Joel Anderson
Agree.
Van Lathan
Agree.
Joel Anderson
Yeah.
Van Lathan
Okay. They're not gonna guess so. All right.
Billy Gill
So did. Did anyone else. Since I'm not part of this, like, text thread, did anyone else tell you their favorite quarterback or just.
Van Lathan
They sure did.
Billy Gill
No one answered you?
Van Lathan
Even. Even. Even Van responded. Yeah.
Tate Frazier
Wow.
Joel Anderson
Even.
Van Lathan
Even.
Tate Frazier
Can you tell us your favorite FIU quarterback, Billy?
Billy Gill
I like James Morgan. Yeah, kind of James Morgan guy. Wes Carroll. Those are, like, the guys that, like, won the big games, the bowl game, stuff like that, you know?
Van Lathan
Okay.
Billy Gill
Yeah.
Joel Anderson
James Morgan.
Van Lathan
I'm looking him up.
Joel Anderson
I don't know James.
Van Lathan
He played for the Montreal Alouettes. Man, he must not be that bad.
Joel Anderson
Oh, look at this guy. This white as. Oh, my God. He looked like a vampire in Sinners. Like, look at this.
Van Lathan
Ye.
Joel Anderson
Hey. Right now, if you at home shout out to all of the Gators. Look up, dude. James Morgan. And like. And look at James Morgan. This is white as a. Oh my gosh.
Van Lathan
He would have been an NYPD cop in. In 1983.
Joel Anderson
Exactly like James is. Kind of walk over with his night stick and tap on your window.
Van Lathan
What you guys do?
Joel Anderson
Tap, tap. What you guys.
Van Lathan
You guys.
Joel Anderson
What you guys up to? You guys. You guys supposed to be here. Move around.
Van Lathan
Guys, listen. Hey, no loitering. Keep.
Joel Anderson
Keep walking. Keep walking. That's his new nickname, James. Keep walking. Morgan.
Billy Gill
He beat the Miami Hurricanes. Man, I could never hate him for that.
Van Lathan
Oh, yeah, okay.
Tate Frazier
Also play in the cfl.
Billy Gill
He got drafted by the Jets.
Joel Anderson
Oh, okay. Yeah, so it looks like. It looks like he played in the usfl. James bounced around for a little bit. He's a transfer. He came from Bowling Green. I think he might have said that. But he had some decent numbers, particularly in 2018. 26 TD, seven interceptions through for 2700 yards. So a little bit of a fall off in 19, but. But James looked like, oh, Joe Morgan also played basketball. Win a state championship.
Van Lathan
What? Hold on.
Joel Anderson
He also. He also. He was a part of the 4 by 400 meter relay.
Van Lathan
Get the fuck out of here.
Joel Anderson
Ashwa. Ash. Ashwa Bennen. Ashwabinon High School.
Van Lathan
Oh, yeah.
Joel Anderson
Ash Wabanan. Ash Wabanan. Ash Wabanon High School.
Van Lathan
It's in Ashwabanon, Wisconsin.
Joel Anderson
Yeah. Wow. Ash Wabanon. The demographics of the high school.
Van Lathan
79.
Joel Anderson
White.
Van Lathan
Oh, man.
Joel Anderson
Hispanic.
Van Lathan
They have more Native American blacks, man. Unbelievable. That is crazy, man.
Joel Anderson
Hold on for a second. Hold on, hold on, hold on. In 2008, Ashwabanon High School made national and international headlines after it was discovered that a 33 year old mother of two named Wendy Ann Brown had disguised herself as her teenage daughter and enrolled as a sophomore, attending classes for one day and being admitted to the cheerleading program before being caught by the police and charged with identity theft. What the is going on?
Tate Frazier
She was 33 and was it in 10th grade?
Van Lathan
She must have. I mean, looked amazing for 33. Did they thought that she was that young?
Joel Anderson
You know what I'm saying?
Van Lathan
Like, damn, what was she doing? Hey, man, okay, listen. This is the list of things that they found that she was. Guilt she had when she went to court. Bipolar 2 disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, borderline personality disorder, avoidant personality disorder, Paranoid. Paranoid personality disorder. She had a rough time. They made a Lifetime movie about her, man. Ash, right now, Wisconsin.
Billy Gill
Rejection sensitivity or anything or.
Van Lathan
No, no, she didn't have rejection sensitivity. She should look into it. I think it's more of a new thing. I've been seeing therapists. Nobody has thought about this. Nobody came up.
Joel Anderson
Nobody.
Van Lathan
It's like a new thing, you know what I'm saying? Like, it's not a common. I've been seeing therapists, you know, 15, 20 years, you know what I'm saying? And nobody has ever brought up rejection sensitivity. And when my therapist said it, I was like, God damn, that makes so much sense.
Tate Frazier
That was a breakthrough.
Van Lathan
It was a breakthrough. It's like I just saw my. I saw my life when she said that.
Joel Anderson
So I gotta say, man, we gotta investigate what's going on up at ashwaubenon High. In 2017, the school again made national headlines.
Tate Frazier
We'll start with Morgan, and then we'll move from there.
Joel Anderson
After a parent who thought a student dressed as a stormtrooper from Star wars from May the fourth Day was a threat to the school, they evacuated the whole Ashwabanon High School because the student came dressed up as a stormtrooper. A nearby middle school and a community center were also placed on lockdown.
Van Lathan
Oh, man is going nuts. Aaron Stacker played at Ashwabanon High School. You remember Aaron Stucker?
Joel Anderson
I remember him. The running back. I remember him.
Van Lathan
Yeah.
Joel Anderson
Shout out to Ashwagandha. He played for the Saints. He played for the Saints, man.
Van Lathan
He moved around.
Billy Gill
Yeah.
Tate Frazier
Let's raise the roof.
Joel Anderson
Yeah, raise the roof.
Van Lathan
Wait, what's their mascot? Hold on real quick before I get to it.
Joel Anderson
Let me see. Oh, the Ashboy. Okay, let me see.
Van Lathan
Okay. All right.
Joel Anderson
Jaguar is the Ashwabanon Jaguars. Okay, cool. Their rival is Bayport High School.
Van Lathan
Here we go.
Joel Anderson
Okay. No, it's fine. Bayport ain't got no lore, so we good. We can move on now.
Tate Frazier
We have zero lore for Bayport.
Van Lathan
Yeah, 1900 people, though. I'm surprised that many people go to a school in an area like that. Bay Port, Wisconsin.
Tate Frazier
Well, they produced the best quarterback in FIU history.
Billy Gill
Yeah, according to me.
Van Lathan
I mean, man, that's. I can't imagine there's a lot of competition for that, so. Yeah, man. Shout out. James Morgan.
Joel Anderson
Why.
Billy Gill
Why is it always shots with you?
Tate Frazier
I know, Joel. That's a dis.
Van Lathan
Is it not. Not really. I mean, dog. I mean, come on, you know, you're. You have the. It's the worst college football program by winning percentage in the country ever. There's not been a lot of greatness.
Billy Gill
That's not true.
Van Lathan
If I. Oh, look, that's what Indiana was. Now Gator champs, Gators, look it up. Losing us, man, this is gonna take too long. Doug. I don't think we're gonna be able to do it. Losing his college. Are y' all gonna let me do it?
Billy Gill
Yeah, go ahead. We got another time here.
Tate Frazier
Yeah.
Van Lathan
Okay. Football one loss records. You gotta go by percentage, though, player. Yeah, if you go by percentage, FIU has the worst all time winning percentage in college football.
Billy Gill
As of. As of what?
Van Lathan
Charlotte is number two.
Billy Gill
As of what. As of what date?
Van Lathan
There's a. Hold on, hold on.
Billy Gill
Yeah, you gotta listen to that because it's changed.
Van Lathan
Oh, it did?
Joel Anderson
Who?
Van Lathan
Okay, Somebody's worse. Okay, it's. Well, this following. The following data is current through week zero of the 2025 season.
Billy Gill
Yeah, so we haven't updated this year.
Van Lathan
So this year.
Tate Frazier
2025.
Billy Gill
Yeah.
Van Lathan
Okay, so who.
Joel Anderson
Who.
Van Lathan
Who's beating FIU now? Is it Kent State? Somebody? No, I couldn't be Kent State.
Billy Gill
You're not taking shots at me. You're taking shots of Willie Simmons. So if that's something that you want to do.
Van Lathan
Not at all.
Billy Gill
That's something that you.
Joel Anderson
Hold on for a second.
Van Lathan
Hold on.
Joel Anderson
Oh, Joe, you fake as dog. Is black as. I'm looking at him right now.
Van Lathan
Okay. See, look at you. Oh, man, look at you. Your self hate's coming out. Because look, this is what I said last week. It's funny you bring up Willie. Yeah. Because we were talking about the most attractive coaches in college football. Right?
Tate Frazier
Right.
Van Lathan
And then I said, I don't know how Willie Simmons came up. I sent it to Billy. I was like, man, Billy, you didn't recommend Willie Simmons. I was like, willie Simmons is attractive enough to be in top five in that list. Well, because you were like you said. Because I said Sharon Moore
Billy Gill
and you guys scoffed at it and then just named a bunch of white coaches. And I said, well, clearly there's a preference here. No, let me stop saying who I find attractive as a coach.
Tate Frazier
That's right.
Van Lathan
You should have thrown Willie some.
Joel Anderson
Wait a minute.
Van Lathan
Because Williams talk. Wait a minute.
Joel Anderson
Okay, well. Well, first of all, it's not self hate at all. It just depends on like what you like. You like a Willie Simmons? I'm looking. This is not bad looking brother at all.
Van Lathan
Okay?
Joel Anderson
I'm like, I'm. What I'm saying is it would. It's interesting to me that you are choosing to criticize FIU knowing that he is the head coach and what he's been up against historically as a black man.
Van Lathan
By me talking. By me talking about Fi N. But actually, me talking about the challenges at that program elevates Willie. Willie's only been there one year, bro. He came from. From famu, I think only the second black coach that coached at HBCU to ever move to the fbs. The other one was a white guy, Hobson or whatever.
Billy Gill
And what do you do? You. You tear down the.
Van Lathan
No, I'm saying. So I'm like, Willie has a lot to do. If Willie. If Willie can win six or seven games there, it's a miracle, and he needs to get out as soon as he can.
Billy Gill
He already.
Tate Frazier
He won seven games.
Joel Anderson
Yeah. You don't have to do it again.
Van Lathan
He's gonna have to do it one more time.
Joel Anderson
He won seven. That I'll be talking about.
Van Lathan
No, nothing.
Joel Anderson
This is the. That I be talking about with.
Van Lathan
Talking about the reality.
Joel Anderson
Joel, he already did what you just said to do. He already did it. He's gonna give him any support.
Tate Frazier
How many does he have to have?
Joel Anderson
This is actually a Disney.
Van Lathan
Never gonna get that. He's gonna have to do it, like, three or four times.
Tate Frazier
What? Four miracles.
Billy Gill
Says you.
Joel Anderson
Why? To impress you. Why you talking mad?
Van Lathan
We'll say.
Joel Anderson
Who do you think you said?
Van Lathan
Do you want to bet? You want to bet on, like, where Willie Simmons is next year? If. If he has a new job or whatever?
Tate Frazier
I mean, there's.
Joel Anderson
He.
Billy Gill
There's rumors after one year that USF wanted him, and then they went and they hired Brian Hartline. I'm sure you were in favor of that.
Van Lathan
No. No.
Joel Anderson
Probably. I bet you were. Actually. He could be coaching. There might be a job opening there pretty soon. So.
Van Lathan
Hey, how do. How do you feel about that now? Because you. You know, when you took a very strong stance on behalf of Diana, which I appreciate, because that's. That's. That's the empathetic person you are. But now I feel like every. Because I kind of came out, you know, just kind of lukewarm, and my feelings about Diane, and it's not like I dislike the woman or anything like that, but everything that has come out since then made me feel like a fool, you know, for being like, damn. Every. Every other piece of information, I'm like, damn, man. You know?
Joel Anderson
So there's a couple of things, I think, and we can get into Meg thee Stallion later, if you guys want to talk about it.
Van Lathan
Oh, yeah, I would love to.
Joel Anderson
There's. There's a. There's a couple of things, I think. The first thing I think is I'm trying to think. I don't give A fuck. That's the first thing. Like. Like, that's. That's the first thing I think. I don't give a fuck. But the only thing that I am consistent about in this situation with Diana Rossini is whatever type of scarlet letter she has to wear, then he should have to wear it, too. Okay, now I'll say this. It Happened playlists. Yeah.
Tate Frazier
The Spotify playlist.
Joel Anderson
Okay.
Van Lathan
We didn't.
Joel Anderson
We get into the Twilight Zone with this whole fucking thing.
Van Lathan
Yeah. That's crazy.
Joel Anderson
I even gonna lie. It seems like. Like one of my friends in the group chat, it seems like maybe his wife was actually the side chick. I. I don't know. It seems like. It seems like the wife was like, this is all getting pretty wild. But I. I just think that having one person be the laughing stock of this entire deal and somebody else kind of skate. I think it's an issue with it. But I don't give a. Woke me out. I don't give a.
Van Lathan
Okay, so I'm not good.
Joel Anderson
I'm not a good person. I'm not a good person in relationships. I'm not trying to act like. I'm like, yeah, some kind of moral. Moral guy. I'm just saying this seems a little unfair, but whatever.
Van Lathan
Well, I think Vrabel has been. I think he's been embarrassed. I actually think he's been embarrassed to the point that I'm not going to say that he's not going to be coaching the Patriots, but it's on the table in a way that I would have. Not that I would have not thought at the beginning of this. I'm like, why would the Patriots fire Mike Vrabel? He's a very good coach. They seem to be turning around. You know, they just played in the super bowl, whatever. But now I'm like, man, does he really want to be in public anytime soon? Like, does he just want it to stand in front of people every day for, you know, nine months or whatever? I don't. I don't. That doesn't seem like something I'd want to do if I was in a situation. But maybe it's already, you know, we don't know then what's going on there. Maybe. Maybe that decision's already been made.
Tate Frazier
He skipped day three of the draft. That seems to be his punishment. He went to therapy.
Billy Gill
So he's back already, too?
Tate Frazier
Yeah, he's already back. They move quickly. I think it would be funny to see, like, what the treatment would be if he did make the super bowl last year, but making The super bowl makes a lot. A lot of things a lot easier.
Billy Gill
So is it also bad that, like, I thought when. When this came out, because everyone's like, wow, he's not the same person. Like, since this came out, it's like we kind of had this double life going on for at least six years, and he held everything together just fine.
Tate Frazier
So, like, I feel like he'll be
Billy Gill
able to kind of power through this situation.
Van Lathan
Yeah, it's probably true. I mean, he seem. He seems certainly to have, like, double consciousness or whatever. Right? But I just. Would you. I mean, man, his life just.
Joel Anderson
I.
Van Lathan
Again, I hope I. For his family sake, I hope they already knew. I hope this wasn't all a revelation to them, because the. The thought that made it really difficult for me. I was like, what if you. When those pictures first came out and they were like, we have to tell everybody, that's bullshit. Nothing ever happened, blah, blah, blah. And so then they lied about it, and then every other revelation came out and just like, trying to explain to your partner, like, yeah, I know I said I wasn't going to lie about this. I'm going to tell you the truth, but I actually coordinated a lie with her, too. They just. It seems really, really, really tough.
Billy Gill
As someone who's going to travel this weekend, Joel, like, what's your protocol on, like, the airport gift shop? Because we saw him at the airport gift shop buying, like, sweaters and stuff, seemingly for his wife. You get some, like, if you forgot to get, like, a souvenir, do you get your wife anything at the gift shop?
Van Lathan
Always go to the airport gift shop. I get something with caffeine, okay? I get whatever the local newspaper is, all right?
Billy Gill
And for your life, I meant more for loved ones.
Van Lathan
Listen, I don't get anything from my wife. I don't get anything from my wife because my wife wouldn't like anything like that. But you know what ends up happening? I get something from my kids because I'm like, damn, I didn't stop by a toy store or whatever the fuck down here. And so I'll pick up something at the gift shop. Like, I got them a little, like, kind of like a little hot wheel that had, like, a surfboard on it the last time I was in L. A.
Tate Frazier
Wouldn't it be better to go to a store, like, in Los Angeles as opposed to the airport? The airport feels like a last resort
Van Lathan
because that's what it always is. I never make time for it when I'm there, but this time maybe I will try. But, man, I'm also just tired of getting my kids shit. Like, I think they. I think they got enough stuff, to be honest. Wow. They got enough stuff.
Tate Frazier
What if we get some stuff from ucla? Like a shirt?
Van Lathan
Yeah, like that. That. Not that I fuck with. That's. Yeah, I would love.
Tate Frazier
Because then you don't spend any money. Just pass it down.
Van Lathan
Oh, yeah. I want some merch. You just gave it away, Tate. You just gave it away. Did you tell them about ucla?
Tate Frazier
Yeah, I mentioned it at the top. Yeah, go to details.
Van Lathan
Okay. All right. Well, I didn't know. I thought we were keeping it a secret. I just, you know, I just thought maybe your migraine was hurting you, bro.
Tate Frazier
What'd you get me? My. My head is hurting.
Billy Gill
What's. What'd you get your wife for? Not to put your business out there. Your anniversary. You got anniversary.
Tate Frazier
What you want for the anniversary?
Van Lathan
Anniversary.
Tate Frazier
That's tomorrow.
Van Lathan
Well, I guess technically today, since people gonna be watching this on Wednesday. Yeah, I don't want to tell y'. All.
Billy Gill
Why not?
Van Lathan
Well, I mean, there's two things. One. No, the second thing is, is that we. We have two children. We don't have a lot of money, so we're not, you know, the gifts
Joel Anderson
that we get each other, you know,
Van Lathan
also listen, but also listen to this. No, no, no.
Joel Anderson
You know what? Hold on, Joe, I gotta say, bro, you. Every time you get on there, you get Dickensian with your description of, like, your situation. It's like, please, sir, may I have some homes? That's. This is all horseshit. Guys like, it is. I don't know why he does this.
Van Lathan
You.
Joel Anderson
Yeah, you. We have two kids. We don't have a lot of money. Okay, all right. No, shut up the up.
Van Lathan
I don't make this girl.
Joel Anderson
Just go ahead. Go ahead and. Go ahead and give it up. Like, what you get? Did you get your kids? Like, you're gonna get her like a wooden horse.
Van Lathan
Also, listen, you didn't. You didn't give me a chance, so. Also, we're in a season of celebration in this house. Okay? My son's birthday was earlier this month. Anniversary's today, Wednesday.
Tate Frazier
19 month celebration. Remember that?
Van Lathan
19 month celebration on every 14th. Mother's Day is coming up the week after that. And then my wife's birthday is two weeks after that. And then my birthday is five days after that.
Billy Gill
You don't get yourself anything.
Van Lathan
Of course not, but we would be just handing out shit here all the time.
Billy Gill
Wait, so you don't get. You don't get gifts for these individual things?
Van Lathan
Well, you. Sometimes we do, sometimes we don't. Sometimes we say, hey, look, don't get me anything. We're going to do this or don't do this. We got. We did this on the kids.
Tate Frazier
Do you get.
Van Lathan
Okay, Billy, let me put you on the fucking table. Okay? All of y'. All. All of y' all in relationships. Get your girls something every time. So for the birthday, anniversary, what else would be a good
Billy Gill
Christmas?
Van Lathan
Christmas? Yeah, you are. You all. You get a gift every single time.
Billy Gill
Yeah, it sucks too, because my wife's born in December, so I have December birthday, then Christmas. My sister's birthday is the end of November. My mom's birthday is December, brother in law's January 1st. December is a brutal month.
Van Lathan
Y' all are getting each other gifts. All y'.
Tate Frazier
All.
Billy Gill
Brother in law, we got a nice little. Yeah, I'm like a dolphin.
Joel Anderson
Yeah, go yourself.
Van Lathan
That's how.
Joel Anderson
That's how I know. That's how I know you really in some real tight. Nah, no, get the out of here. That's no way. Like, no way. See, this is what you have to do. I'm glad I'm around like regular people like you and Tate. Joe, I know is a fellow traveler.
Van Lathan
Okay, don't.
Joel Anderson
Don't do that.
Van Lathan
I'mma tell. I'mma tell it. Stop. I'mma tell it. Stop. Joe.
Joel Anderson
Joe. But like, you.
Van Lathan
You.
Joel Anderson
So you get a. You get a gift for your brother in law on his birthday?
Tate Frazier
Yeah.
Van Lathan
That's crazy.
Billy Gill
I mean, like, it's.
Joel Anderson
It's not for me. How old is he?
Billy Gill
He and my wife will get something same way, like for my birthday, my sister will give like my wife or me something like.
Tate Frazier
Yeah, I get my sister in law a present on her birthday.
Joel Anderson
See, this is what American family is. Because this is. This is what it is. This is what it means to be a part of. Of a family. And y' all watch Charlie Brown Christmas together. Great pumpkin patch, whatever the y' all do like the two. Remember Tate's. The two Christmas trees, one downstairs. A whole Carolina themed Christmas. This is what I aspire to be. This is what I want.
Van Lathan
Wow.
Joel Anderson
You know what we would get? Do you know what my dad would get his brother in law for Christmas in 1995?
Van Lathan
Right?
Joel Anderson
He would get him out of jail.
Van Lathan
Wow.
Joel Anderson
It's just a completely different situation. But this right here, even the thought of doing that. Yeah, it almost makes me mad. If the. If. If the was like. If he was like, yo, what am I getting for Christmas? I'd be like, if you look at The.
Van Lathan
How old is your brother in law, Billy? How old is. He's in his 30s.
Billy Gill
Yeah, he's like, oh, he's a grown ass man.
Van Lathan
Dog a fishing line. What the. What are you? A igloo cooler. That would actually be a good gift if somebody were to give me an igloo cooler.
Billy Gill
That. When's your birthday, Joel, we'll get you an igloo cooler.
Van Lathan
You really want me to say? Yeah, May 28th.
Billy Gill
May 28th. Wow.
Joel Anderson
Oh, very special. Okay, so I'll get you an igloo cooler. I'll get you. You know what I do think, though? I don't even know what we're talking
Billy Gill
about right now, but still always dead barbecue, though.
Tate Frazier
Yeah.
Van Lathan
You ain't follow up. Yeah, bro.
Joel Anderson
Oh, okay. I'll do that.
Van Lathan
You know what?
Joel Anderson
I'll do that this week, Memorial Day. If you give me your dad's address, I'll send the barbecue this weekend. No, but I'll send it from destination. Destination Smokehouse. Not the white boy owns it.
Van Lathan
Okay. My dad. My. Wait, what's that? Which destination? That. The one with the one.
Joel Anderson
I'm a send it. I'm a tendonism, not a black tendonism. Guy is gone. Imma send your dad. He's gone Stuff from destinations. Oh, yeah, bro. This is black. No, not gone. He's not passed away. Oh, okay.
Van Lathan
I was like, oh, man, I thought he passed on, man.
Joel Anderson
I guess we gotta do some college football.
Van Lathan
My Dad's birthday is May 17th, by the way.
Billy Gill
He's not getting.
Joel Anderson
Yeah.
Van Lathan
Oh, I'm getting something. I get my dad something.
Billy Gill
Joe.
Tate Frazier
Dad. Your dad's May 17th. You're May 28th.
Van Lathan
May 28th.
Tate Frazier
There you go.
Van Lathan
My wife is May 23rd.
Billy Gill
Ninth wedding anniversary traditionally celebrates with pottery or willow to symbolize molding a life together and flexibility. So you want to get her a tree or something? You could do that.
Tate Frazier
That's all right.
Van Lathan
You know, we. We're renting our house, so it's not gonna put any new trees out there, I don't think.
Tate Frazier
Maybe get her flowers.
Billy Gill
Yeah, get that.
Van Lathan
That I get her. I get. I get her flowers at times that she doesn't expect it. I don't give them. I don't. I try to give them at times, which like not on the holiday.
Tate Frazier
So you try to avoid the holidays? No gifts on the holidays.
Van Lathan
No, I give gifts on random. No, I give gifts on holidays, but flowers are a thing that I'm like, man. That's just very. It's. It's good if you do it that's fine. But I'm always just trying to surprise her with flowers when she's not expecting it. Not on the holidays. Game for you fellas, man. You know what I'm saying? I know Van looked at my black family and didn't see anything in it that he admired. But I think, I think, I think I have a cool family too. Just because we don't get it. I don't get my. Well, in my. You know what? I shouldn't even talk about my brother in law, but okay, let's go to the draft.
Tate Frazier
Let's go to the draft. Perfect. Let's get to it. The 2026 NFL Draft did happen. One big reaction from the draft. We've had a lot of, you know, commentary. McShay, Minch, they were live for it. The fantasy slash draft guys were locked in on the draft. But Joe, I'll go to you first because this is someone that you have come and defended pretty much as far as, as long as I've known you and talked to you. You have been his number one fan. Of course. I'm talking about a man, Diego Pavia, who went undrafted in this draft. No agent. He did get signed by the Ravens. That was news today. But your thoughts on him going undrafted?
Van Lathan
He's not a likable person, you know, for the, for a lot of.
Tate Frazier
But you love him. You said he's going to be in the hall of Fame.
Van Lathan
Yeah, yeah, I think he's, I do think he. And man, people were really nasty. It was crazy how he's making the
Joel Anderson
hall of Fame, guys.
Van Lathan
The College Football hall of Fame.
Joel Anderson
He's making the College Football hall of Fame, bro.
Van Lathan
He's going, yeah, man. I mean, yeah, I know that he has a face that you might not like. You might not like that. He was, you know, ungracious after the Heisman. But the dude is legitimately a legendary college football player. Like, he won. He's the only person who's ever had 10 win seasons at Vanderbilt, in New Mexico State. If you can do that in college, bro, that makes you a legend. That makes you a Hall of Famer. Plus he was a Heisman finalist. Plus his senior year, it was like it was a statistically abundant season. Like he did a lot. He almost 4,000 yards, almost ran for 900 yards. So he did.
Tate Frazier
He also said that he should have won the Heisman. He said f the Heisman voters after he lost.
Van Lathan
I don't. Look, I would have voted for Diego Pavia if I had a Heisman vote. You know, it's not that I don't think Fernando Mendoza didn't have a great season, isn't a great quarterback and not a great representative for the sport, but I like people who do a lot with not a lot, you know what I mean? Like, I want to see you excel in very difficult situations. And again, it's funny to think of Indiana is like, well, you know, Fernando had all the advantages. He had NFL receivers, NFL running backs, and, you know, whatever. But Fernando had a much better supporting cast than Diego Pavia. So. Yeah. So look, again, I'm not surprised that he went undrafted. Like, I understand he measured it 5 foot 10. That would make him literally one of the shortest quarterbacks in NFL history. So if, you know. So I get that he's already 24 years old. He probably doesn't have much of an athletic ceiling. Johnny Manziel is his og. So you. Maybe you might want to question his mentor. Yeah, that's his mentor. So. But I just thought that as college fans, we all love Diego Pavia, man. You know, that he's the kind of character that the game needs. You know, we love underdogs, we love dogs, and Pavia is a dog. You know what I mean? I thought we liked that kind of guy. And I just felt like people really took a lot of joy in him going undrafted. I was just kind of surprised. Again, I know that people don't like him, and there's certainly seems to be some legitimate reasons to him not be your favorite player, but I just thought as college football fans, we all agreed that we love characters like that and that, you know, we don't give a shit what the NFL thinks about our best players. You know what I mean? That's why you love Herb Tyler Van. That's why you love Darian Durant Tate. That's why I love, like, J.J. joe and Kevin Murray and whatever. Zebby Lethridge.
Tate Frazier
Yeah. College careers are different than NFL careers at this point.
Van Lathan
Yeah. So I just thought.
Joel Anderson
I think also when you talk about those guys, those are players that played, at least for me, at my school. So there are a whole bunch of LSU players that I love that no one else would even care about because they play. I love Crick stilts, right? Like, stills. Like, there are a whole bunch of LSU guys that I love that a lot of people might not love.
Van Lathan
Justin.
Joel Anderson
It is what it is. Justin Vincent. Just like a lot of players that. Whatever. There was a player, I brought him up before from lsu, Demetrius Hook Finn, that was looked at as, like, one of the biggest coverage bus guys Ever. But like, towards the end of his career, Hook fan was just like, I can't cover anyone anymore, so if anyone gets close to me, I'm going to fucking detonate them. And I like appreciated that about Demetrius Hook fan towards the end of his career. So that, that's different than judging the accolades of a player that's outside of the culture that you love. But even having said that, Dig opavia. I mean, just. John United's golden or Golden Arm Award winner C USA Player of the Year First Team All American in 2025 SEC Offensive Player of the Year SEC New Newcomer of the Year First Team All SEC Second Team All SEC Second Team All C USA that guy's going to the hall of Fame. He also was a cultural force in college football. He was a part of, like the. Not even the rejuvenation. He was a part of the golden age of Vanderbilt football on an offense that was completely based around his skill set. You cannot like Diego Pavia all you want. Diego Pavia was a badass motherfucking college football player.
Tate Frazier
The end.
Joel Anderson
Yeah.
Van Lathan
And they were talking about. People were saying, oh, they're not going to even remember him, bro. Like, let me explain to you what college football fans like to do. They love to remember some guys. And you remember, like, people would talk about Steven Garcia in South Carolina. I throw another South Carolina quarterback out there, Steve Tannehill. Remember him with the ponytail, you know, the homeboy, Big Jared Lorenzen in Kentucky. We love talking about those dudes.
Joel Anderson
Pillsbury's throw boy.
Van Lathan
Yeah, Pillsbury throw boy. Man, we love talking about guys like that. So Diego's even got that already, right? Like just the character status and he has the resume to back it up. I just. You can't. He beat New Mexico's. He beat Auburn with New Mexico Tate style. New Mexico State talent. And he beat. He beat Alabama with Vanderbilt talent. Like, that is incredible. You would never believe that. Like, just say that to any football fan in any year and all of that sounds absurd. But he did it all in the same career. That motherfucker's going to the hall of Fame, man. And I don't care if he makes the Baltimore Ravens. He did sign a three year free agent contract with them. We recorded this on Tuesday. So you signed it today. Thank you. Free is for putting that in the chat. But yeah, so, I mean, he, he's. I don't care if he makes it in the NFL. Right? I just. He's, he's. He was one of those dudes. And when I think back to this era of football, it's just kind of like when James Franklin made Vanderbilt good. I was like, man, remember when James Franklin Vanderbilt was good like that? That's what you're going to do with Diego Pavia in 20 years. You're going to remember him for sure.
Tate Frazier
Do you think he ever starts a game in the NFL?
Van Lathan
Man, tough, Tough, probably. Oh, tough. A lot of people start games in the NFL. That's the thing. You know what I'm saying? Yeah, that's what I mean.
Tate Frazier
I mean it's definitely entirely possible. Billy, Billy says week 17 game.
Van Lathan
Yeah, let me see if Case McCoy ever started an NFL game now. I mean. Cause Diego's so much better than him. That's not even fair.
Joel Anderson
So I mean there's a lot of things that can lead you to start a game in the NFL. You can be in different situation, all kinds of stuff. But like the qu. Will he ever be a starting caliber NFL player? That's a big, big if for Diego Pavia, man. Man, come on, man.
Van Lathan
I mean, yeah, yeah. I don't even, I mean, I don't even think, I don't think he's an NFL player based on his physical characteristics. And when you add in what seems to be a personality that grates on people or may come off as obnoxious to people, that probably makes it difficult. You're not doing a lot to convert to people who are skeptical of you. But again, that's what makes Diego Pavia to be Diego Pavia. You had to dream the impossible that you were an undersized, moderately athletic kid from Albuquerque, New Mexico, and you would lead a 10 win team in the SEC. That is a crazy thing to say out loud. And he actually did it though.
Tate Frazier
Yeah. He might go to the cfl, win the Great cup and become one of the best players in CFL history. That feels like a path for him. Van reactions from the draft, do you have one big reaction? Anything that stood out to you? It does feel like Ty Simpson was one of the biggest stories. Yeah.
Joel Anderson
Joel gave a nickname earlier last season to. No, he called it. He called Ty play right now. Ty Big daddy Simpson. That's what he is. He's a big daddy. And it looks like, at least to me, that it's not just Joel and the Alabama faithful that think that Ty Simpson is a big dad. Big daddy. The Rams, because the Rams drafted Ty Simpson. What was it, 12 or 13, something like that? 13th.
Van Lathan
Yeah, 13th.
Joel Anderson
They, they drafted him when they have really, I mean, Dwighting down towards the end of his career. They have a Franchise quarterback there that they have the mvp. The mvp. They've oriented their entire offense around. They drafted a quarterback in the first round, which used to be kind of a. No, no. Unless you were dead set on fucking pissing your guy off.
Van Lathan
Yeah.
Joel Anderson
But they did it anyway, and it seems like they went over McVeigh's head to do this. McVeigh did not seem thrilled in any way, shape or form that this was the draft pick.
Van Lathan
It.
Joel Anderson
A lot of people are calling it a swing. I think it's a swing in light of the culture of the Rams and the fact that they have Stafford. But somebody believes, just like Joe believes, that Ty Simpson is a need.
Tate Frazier
And Joe Simpson.
Van Lathan
The lesson, though, again, I've. As you've noticed, I've just stopped trying to be, you know, like a team. A team. A good teammate. In the threads. I just send links now because of. Like that. Because I was agreeing with you. I was trying to be like, man, you know what? I'm trying to build some. Some camaraderie, and I'm going to support Van and calling him Big Daddy or do. Using a phrase that Van would probably use. You know what I'm saying? But that's fine.
Joel Anderson
You're lying.
Tate Frazier
You used the phrase, though.
Joel Anderson
I did it because I got the. I got the screenshots right now, and I will put them up on the tailgate.
Van Lathan
Please do.
Joel Anderson
Like you're lying. Please do.
Van Lathan
I'm not. I'm not lying. I'm not lying. I was a.
Tate Frazier
So maybe we do a poll for the Gators.
Van Lathan
People will be able to look at my text and tell the intent of them. They'll be like, oh, yeah, Joel. I mean, no, here it is.
Joel Anderson
They're about to score again. They look like a totally different team. Ty Simpson is so good, man. Would you say that he is a daddy? Oh, he a big daddy. And then all caps, Big daddy.
Tate Frazier
He doubled down.
Van Lathan
I was trying again. I was. I was trying to say it in. In the language of Van, you know what I'm saying? But obviously it backfired. And I'll just disabuse anybody at that notion. I'm not. I don't know for sure. You know what I'm saying? I was too busy grinding tape to make all my call, all my sources in the league, but I don't think anybody else would have taken Todd Simpson in the first round. And that's what makes it a bad pick. You know, they do have a.
Tate Frazier
They didn't have. They. They got that pick because. Because of a trade.
Van Lathan
Yeah.
Tate Frazier
It wasn't even their pick.
Van Lathan
You can use it to, to help your 38 year old quarterback. You don't, you're not, you, you're not going to have Matt Stafford. Maybe I would assume next year is Matt Stafford's last year, but maybe not. Quarterbacks are playing for longer now and if he keeps looking good then great, but you could get him some help. That's a pick that you had that you're going to at best need when you don't have the mvp, you know and you can get Ty Simpson in any draft. Like we're Talking about a 6 foot 1, 211 pound quarterback with a not necessarily great arm. He's already old, he's only made 15 starts and in like the last third of them he was not good. Like that doesn't, that's not a smart pick. And I, you know, if I was Matt Stafford, I would be pissed. I'm like I'm coming back for this bullshit, man. Why didn't you get me a receiver? You know, Denzel, boss.
Joel Anderson
You guys look at Matt Stafford, you guys look at Matt Stafford as a sure fire hall of Famer.
Tate Frazier
Yes.
Joel Anderson
Super bowl champion, MVP, comeback player of the year, first team all pro, three time pro bowler passing yards leader in 25 touching downs, leader in 25 Detroit all time team, first team all American, second team all sec. Those last teams, two things don't matter. I. This resume of accolades. Now he's got a lot of great numbers. This resume of accolades is a little thinner than I thought it was going to be.
Van Lathan
Yeah, I mean I think, I think
Tate Frazier
they're gonna, I think they're gonna win another Super Bowl. I mean I, I think he already will be in the hall of Fame, but I don't think he's done yet.
Van Lathan
Yeah, I mean, right. If he, if he didn't have last season, he has a much thinner case than you'd expect. Last season is the year that if he goes into the hall of Fame, that will be the year that did it because he needed that year on that resume. I mean three time Pro Bowler. I mean, you know, being a Pro Bowler again, obviously that's a very accomplished football player. But Shador Sanders was a Pro Bowler last year. Like it.
Tate Frazier
I also think when he was with the Lions, everyone kind of knew what was going on. He was super talented.
Van Lathan
He was, he was drawn to Calvin Johnson. Terrible when he was in Detroit. I mean, but that was it.
Tate Frazier
I mean they had no defense, they had no management. I mean that was a, it's a dark Time.
Van Lathan
The thing. The Rams have shown that he was vastly underutilized.
Tate Frazier
Yeah, it's tough. The other side stories.
Joel Anderson
Hey, can I ask you a question? Are you going to be able to meaningfully contribute to the show today?
Van Lathan
He's hurting like that.
Joel Anderson
Like, you guys, I want you guys to go back and, like, rewind 10 seconds, 15 seconds. Tate is ready to go. They just gave it up.
Tate Frazier
I'm just telling you. I mean, I think he's a hall of fame.
Joel Anderson
He's going through it right now.
Tate Frazier
I feel like Scotty, you know what I mean? Defense, I'm struggling.
Van Lathan
Yeah, it's okay, man. I mean, we said that we were going to try to carry you. I, I, I can tell that you're hurting, too, man. I really can. Yeah.
Tate Frazier
Migraines aren't fun for everybody out there. For all the tailgaters, if you get migraines, shout out to you. You're fighting through it.
Van Lathan
Go get an iv, bro. You'll get. Because I know that's what.
Tate Frazier
Yeah, I got to get Ivy. I do want to ask about the two storylines of Ty Simpson. One is Les needs friends with his dad, so we have a little bit of, like, a nepotism conspiracy that's going on there. And then two, he did not hear from Matthew Stafford, but Matthew Stafford's wife DM'd him. And if you know Matthew Stafford's wife's history, she used to date his backup quarterback when he was in Georgia. So if you're Matthew Stafford, I think this is a fun tailgate topic. If. If you're Matthew Stafford and you haven't talked to the guy that just got drafted in the first round, but then he comes out and says that your wife was DMing him. I think I'd feel some type of way about that.
Van Lathan
So none of us are allowed to DM the other's partner then. At this point, I'm just.
Tate Frazier
I mean, based on the history, I don't think I'd feel. I'd be like, what's going on here? Why are you messaging?
Van Lathan
So if I just know if I. If I message his. Riley, you would be like, what are you. What are you doing?
Joel Anderson
I'm about to do it. I'm about to see. Let's do this Instagram. Tate, what's Riley's Instagram? I'm gonna go find it. I'm a sin. Okay, I'm gonna go to. Because I can. I can find it on your page, Tate. So I'm gonna go to. I'm gonna go to your page, and I'm gonna send a nice Instagram message to Riley.
Van Lathan
Wow.
Joel Anderson
What? What? This is not. This is not wrong in any way, shape, or form. Hold on. This is not set up the plan.
Tate Frazier
If you have the precedent already set, then I just think it's a little strange. You know what I mean? Like, okay, just. It's a little bit off. I don't know if I'm Ty Simpson. I'm like, why is it.
Joel Anderson
Hold on for a second. Riley follows me. I'm not even following her back. I gotta follow Riley back.
Van Lathan
You gotta follow her back.
Tate Frazier
She's a fan of tailgate. She supports.
Joel Anderson
She's a tailgate fan. Okay, so Tate, what am I allowed to say in this dm?
Tate Frazier
I mean, you can say whatever you want. He's uncomfortable, respectful.
Van Lathan
He's. Oh,
Joel Anderson
Okay. This is what I'm gonna say.
Van Lathan
Wow.
Joel Anderson
Hi, Riley. I just want to let you know. Want to let you know how happy. Happy we are for you and Tate. Yeah, Tate has a migraine today.
Tate Frazier
Yeah, she knows.
Van Lathan
Oh, man.
Joel Anderson
Try to give a little extra. Oh, tlc.
Tate Frazier
See, I'm. I'm wondering if this is what Matt Stafford's watching. You know what I mean?
Van Lathan
Giving him stuff is a little on the line, but okay, if you can.
Joel Anderson
And then I'm gonna put. I'm gonna put from Joel Van.
Van Lathan
Yeah, And Billy Philly.
Joel Anderson
See, that's a nice dm.
Van Lathan
Yeah.
Tate Frazier
There you go.
Joel Anderson
Scene. Automatically. Like, automatically.
Van Lathan
She saw it. Okay. Hey, ask her. Ask her if we're all gonna do. If we're gonna do a family dinner next weekend. Don't want to hang out. I'm saying.
Joel Anderson
Don't want to commit once to know. Okay, if we can all go to.
Tate Frazier
Riley just texted me the screenshot and then she said in all caps, hahaha. I am dead.
Van Lathan
Okay, dog.
Joel Anderson
Now let me tell you how Riley fucking passed the motherfucking test. Let me tell you how Riley passed the test in a real way. Or she saw the text message before responding to me, sent it to Tate, then that's. I mean, control. There's no control. There's no. It's not about control. It's just about transparency. The question is, did Matthew did what?
Van Lathan
I'm saying, that's a good. Oh, man. Yeah, that's like.
Tate Frazier
Did Stafford find that out from Ty Simpson or did he find that out from his wife, Riley Simpson?
Joel Anderson
There's nothing wrong with it. It's fine. Like, Riley just aced the test. Of course there was no test, by the way.
Van Lathan
Do you remember, did you ever do the. Like, if you closed the door. You opened the door for your. Your date and walked across. Did you ever, like, judge a girl if she didn't lean across and unlock the door for you?
Joel Anderson
Talking about from Bronx Tale.
Van Lathan
Is that in the movie Bronx Tale?
Joel Anderson
Yeah, it is in the movie the Bronx Tale. That's where you got it from. You got it from the movie.

Tate Frazier
All right, so Ty Simpson. We figured out how to deal with his draft situation. Diego Pavia. The other thing I wanted to point out. Bill Belichick and Coach Prime. Zero players drafted in the 2026 NFL Draft. Pour one out. Two guys who were. We were supposed to talk about all season long, but they had no players in the draft.
Van Lathan
So that's a. That's a. That's a Mike Lombardi stat, too. That's your boy Mike Lombardi.
Tate Frazier
First time since 2016, no players drafted.
Van Lathan
The 33rd NFL team. This is supposed to be.
Tate Frazier
And then keeping all our talent.
Van Lathan
I feel. I feel this is sad. Like, I mean, I don't care about Bill Belichick person also have, you know, like, Jordan got. Has gotten active on Twitter in the last few days.
Tate Frazier
She's been going, yeah, Pablo going to Pablo.
Van Lathan
I was like, man, I like, why don't you just leave Pablo the alone, man? That's how you can tell she's a young person. It was just like, why don't you just leave him the fuck alone? I just. I don't. The thing is, again, nobody controls anybody. So on and so forth, but I just can't believe Bill Belichick is like, could you just please stop? Please stop. Like, don't do this anymore. It's embarrassing to me, you know?
Tate Frazier
Yeah.
Joel Anderson
Like, he just.
Van Lathan
He has no shame. He has no shame anymore.
Joel Anderson
Can I say something?
Tate Frazier
Yeah, please.
Joel Anderson
This relationship is working out.
Van Lathan
Oh, man.
Joel Anderson
You guys, you know what no one's paying attention to? They made it. They made this relationship. How are we coming up on a year? Is it more than a year? I think it's like three.
Tate Frazier
I think it's multiple years.
Joel Anderson
Multiple years. Okay. What this relationship is working out. You guys can say whatever the you guys want to say everyone can talk all the. That they want to talk, but these two crazy kids are finding a way in this world.
Van Lathan
If I told you before the year and I said, I'm not gonna give you any other information, which relationship do you think is going to last longer? Bill Belichick and Jordan or Klay Thompson and Megan the Stallion? I still think I probably would have said Belichick.
Tate Frazier
I would have said Belichick because Belichick's not bowing out.
Van Lathan
Yeah, he's willing to hang out.
Joel Anderson
I would say Belichick just because both Meg and Clay still at. They. At their height, and they could get itchy. Belichick. Belichick. Don't know when the next time. Well, I mean, maybe not now. Maybe. Maybe now that Belichick has made it work with Jordan, there might be, like, a whole line of Boutine models.
Van Lathan
Yep.
Joel Anderson
LA models that. Do y' all know what that is? Y' all know what that is?
Van Lathan
Actually, I don't know. I was just laughing. But the model.
Joel Anderson
You're lying. I don't know. What is routine.
Van Lathan
How do you even spell it?
Joel Anderson
Like you're. You're lying. I. I knew. I do stuff like that.
Van Lathan
Okay?
Joel Anderson
Yeah, I do stuff like that just to see if you guys know what it is, because y' all always trying to come at me. You knew what it was. You laughed. Billy. Where's Billy? Billy, do you know what a. A Boutine. LA model. Do you know what a Boutine model is? I wonder if Billy knows now he'll lie. Billy, do you know what a Boutine model is?
Billy Gill
Can I Google this on the work computer or no?
Joel Anderson
I think that you might be able to.
Van Lathan
I would. I would not have guessed this.
Billy Gill
Can I Google this on the word computer?
Tate Frazier
I think so. It's a modeling agency, right?
Joel Anderson
Yeah, it's a modeling. They have a. They have a. Like a. They have a. They have a. I think it's a bikini line. I think is what I think. Yeah. What's.
Van Lathan
What's the name of that other. Because I wouldn't have. I wouldn't have guessed. What's the one that we use? Like, all the models I'm talking about. Wait, what? I'm not doing anything. I'm trying to. What's the name of the one. You know, the. It's like that girl is a something model, you know? You guys don't remember. Oh, Jesus Christ.
Joel Anderson
What are you talking about?
Van Lathan
It was like a clothing line. The girl. Like, a girl's like, oh, she's a Sutton.
Tate Frazier
Victoria's Secret model.
Van Lathan
No, no, it was like, not Fashion Nova. Fashion Nova. There you go. She's a Fashion Nova girl or some like that. Like, you know what I mean? It's like. Oh, okay. So I guess that's with Boutine. Is that what. That's kind of like.
Joel Anderson
Boutine is a. Boutine is. It's a modeling. But it's like a. It's a. There's a bikini line.
Van Lathan
Okay.
Joel Anderson
I didn't know that the girls model for. Billy's out. It's a bikini line.
Tate Frazier
Billy didn't like what he saw.
Van Lathan
Yeah, yeah, the.
Joel Anderson
Billy's out. But I'm saying now, really, that. That they know, because Belichick gotta be up. Belichick gotta be up close to 100 M's. He gotta be. Yeah, maybe not, but he. He got to be close.
Tate Frazier
She's spending a lot of his money.
Van Lathan
Damn. That's.
Tate Frazier
I mean, she's cashing check.
Van Lathan
That's. That's official Carolina biz right there. That's how she. That's. That's how she's regarded in the family.
Joel Anderson
That's a tough statement right there. That's why she's a tough statement that you just made. That's a. That's a tough statement. I'm not sure.
Tate Frazier
I think that's why he had to get the job of Carolyn.
Van Lathan
Hold on.
Tate Frazier
I think he needed the money.
Joel Anderson
Young barracuda praying on poor Bill Belich. Well, I. I just. I. Tate, that's tough. It's March, too. Wait, it's not March.
Van Lathan
No, it's just. It's almost when is.
Joel Anderson
When is. When is International Women's Month.
Van Lathan
I thought.
Joel Anderson
Is it March?
Van Lathan
I thought was March. I think it's March.
Joel Anderson
I think it's March. So. Yeah. So I tell. You could say it. It's.
Tate Frazier
Hey, it. It's empowerment at some level, but. Yeah, Jordan's doing great. They seem to be happy. I feel bad for Meg, the stallion. You know, Clay let her down.
Van Lathan
Wait, oh, here's a. Yeah. Oh, another one. Who do you think is gonna last longer? Dion and. And Karrueche. Is that how you say it?
Tate Frazier
Yeah. Good job.
Van Lathan
Or Belichick and Jordan. Who you think is gonna make it longer?
Tate Frazier
Belichick and Jordan?
Joel Anderson
I don't know, but I hope the best for everyone. How's that sound?
Van Lathan
Okay. All right. Okay. That's good.
Joel Anderson
I hope the. I hope the best for everything. I think that Deion and Karrueche seem. And I wouldn't know. I'm not in a bedroom in their house. Whatever. Dion And Karushi seem legitimately happy. He just posted a picture.
Van Lathan
Yeah.
Joel Anderson
Him and her with, yes, his grandson. They look legitimately happy. He looks happy. I'm glad that people are taking care of each other. I'm. I'm happy. I hope for the best for everyone.
Van Lathan
Yeah. Just like we do a billet check, man. Just like.
Tate Frazier
Yeah. I mean, it was rumored last year that she wanted to get engaged at halftime of the homecoming.
Van Lathan
Oh, God.
Tate Frazier
Belichick.
Van Lathan
Oh, my God.
Tate Frazier
So, I mean, there's still a chance that happens.
Van Lathan
Yeah.
Joel Anderson
Get off Belichick and let Belichick nut. What the is going on, man? Like. Like, let Belichick this Belichick ain't got too many good years left.
Van Lathan
I mean, the thing is, I. I totally understand where we're coming from with this. It's like, yo, he never thought that he would have it like this in his life at this point. But it. At this point, it's kind of becoming embarrassing, though. Like, you're not. You're not doing well professionally, and I
Tate Frazier
respect how little he seems to care.
Van Lathan
That's. That's true. He doesn't seem to, but I. I think his reputation is taking a hit. He seems unserious right now, right?
Tate Frazier
Yeah.
Van Lathan
And I just. I kind of. It's his career. It's his legacy, but it just feels whatever. But, hey, at least he's, you know, as Van said, busting a nut, you know, so at least he's got that going for him.
Joel Anderson
Back to the actual football part of this as we continue to offseason it up. Does the fact that these two programs had nobody drafted mean anything to you guys? Insofar as Bill Belichick was supposed to be a coach that was going to turn UNC into a football factory because of his develop or NFL factory because of his ability to evaluate and develop talent, obviously it's only been, what, one year? But we don't see that right now. Right. We haven't seen Bill Belichick work his magic on any of his players and take them and show them the right way to play the game and then make them into viable in NFL draft prospects. Okay. The same thing with Deion Sanders. He's been there longer, and he's had players go in the draft before, but it seems like these players were more connected to his initial splash at Colorado, which this tremendous amount of excitement was around. Right now that things have normalized a little bit. Is it that Deion is not developing talent at Colorado, or does he have less access to talent at Colorado because people are Seeing how things are going, both of these guys were supposed to be able to sell to recruits how awesome they were at making you ready for the NFL because of their experience with the NFL. And that does not seem to be the case, at least at this particular point in time.
Van Lathan
I mean, I think the thing about Deion is that he's a really unique figure at Jackson State, right? That's how you can get, like, Travis Hunter and everybody else, like, to do something different. Because Jackson State, like, that really is a unique and compelling mission that you're selling to recruits. If you're in Colorado, if you just can't maintain your initial success, you're just another coach in fbs. And like, Deion is as charismatic as anybody who has ever lived. But even still, top recruits and guys that, first of all, guys want money, right? So that's. That's one of the top things. But the second thing is they want the competition and all the other stuff that you're probably not going to get at Colorado, man. Like, they know that Colorado's not up, and people are just not as excited about playing a Big 12 schedule as they are playing in the Big Ten or the SEC. So he's having to. He's having to compete with all that. And it's just like, that doesn't. Colorado doesn't seem to be the same proposition as it was at Jackson State, which is that, hey, come play for your people. For Billichek, man, it's just. It's just an indication of how unserious his staff has been. You know what I mean? Like, people have been talking about the people, all the people that are great.
Tate Frazier
Also, Mack Brown developed. I mean, I wouldn't say developed, just found great talent. You know what I mean? Like, you look at all the guys that have been drafted since Mack Brown came back. I mean, there's a lot of NFL players that came out of Carolina, and Belichick had zero mentioned.
Van Lathan
Yeah, man, he. Belichick came into college football and it changed in a way in which he's particularly ill equipped to handle it. Like, he's like recruiting players to you, and he doesn't. He doesn't have the event. Like, he didn't have the advantage in the NFL because of the salary cap, but he found things on the. On the margins or whatever. Still in North Carolina, Belichick still has to kind of sell himself to people. And that's just. That always seemed like that was going to be a difficult fit. And then. And then to compound it, you didn't bring that Patricia you didn't bring Josh McDaniels down there with you, man. You know, you got your boys, you down there in North Carolina, and so it's just, you know, he's. This isn't going to work out. Dion still has a chance to turn it around. But I mean, Billichek, I mean, if you're in North Carolina, how long do you want this to go on?
Tate Frazier
I mean, it's a lot of money. 10 million a year.
Van Lathan
Yeah. Want some results soon, some buzz.
Joel Anderson
You do it as long as you do it. As long as they'll have you.
Tate Frazier
Yeah, as long as they keep paying. I guess he's happy. And I mean, the over under for UNC this year is four and a half wins.
Van Lathan
Oh, my God, that's. I mean, North Carolina is not a bad football program. It is a program you can win at. Like, it's not. It did not have to be a tear down. You know, you didn't have to do that in North Carolina. There's a lot to sell there. But, you know, I mean, when you hire, you know, I just, I just. They went for the name thing thinking that was going to work, but Bill Belichick isn't. Isn't an interesting enough figure. Like once the games get started.
Tate Frazier
And the guy who was supposed to be the one they hired is now the head coach at Penn State. So, I mean, that's the other part. Like, you hired Bill Belichick over a guy who's now the head coach at Penn State. So that's the other hard part to swallow. So tough times. Deion has the health stuff, so I feel like it's a little bit of like last year, it was understandable that he had some issues also. Shador, Travis Hunter, they both go to the league. So, you know, tough.
Van Lathan
Makes sense.
Tate Frazier
Tough times.
Van Lathan
Tough times.
Tate Frazier
Yeah. They want to ask this about the. We saw this last year going into the draft. So these are the quarterbacks that were supposed to be drafted in the 2026 NFL mock draft. This is from last May. Arch Manning was projected. Number one, Lenora Sellers. Number two, K. Clubnick. Number three, Sam Levitt. Number nine, Drew Aller. Number 11, Garrett Nussmeier. Number 16.
Joel Anderson
Wow.
Tate Frazier
Think about how much has changed in a year.
Van Lathan
I mean, first of all, the Archman thing was always stupid because they knew, they said, they said from the beginning that the boy was not going to leave college that early, like that he was going to play. So that was always stupid. I never understood why they assumed that Arch Manning was going to come out now and Look, I'm, you know, I've been grinding tape. I'm a probably watch a lot of football in my life. If you go back to our old shows, even early in the year, I was telling y', all, klubnick and Drew Aller aren't it? And I don't know why they keep putting the boys up there, man.
Tate Frazier
Like, they had to say, but they were both drafted.
Van Lathan
They were both drafted in the first round. I mean, that's what's up. But I mean, I never saw it. I was like, what is it? Just that they're 6 foot 3 and white. I just couldn't understand, oh, my God. Why they kept putting them up there at the top of these. These mock drafts. I didn't see it.
Joel Anderson
And then have they both have physical ability?
Van Lathan
Yeah. I mean, they said Drew Aller is. Is huge and has a great arm. That's right.
Tate Frazier
Going to Pittsburgh.
Van Lathan
Okay.
Joel Anderson
Yeah. Like, so they both have physical ability. Kate Clubnik is very mobile and he has had. So Clubnick last year was bad, but the year before, he had a good season.
Van Lathan
Yeah, he was okay.
Tate Frazier
Going to the jets.
Van Lathan
He did okay. And I was like, he looked all right. But what they were talking about top of the top half of the first round again. I said, the next time I see Drew Aller have a good game against a good defense, it'll be the first time. I never like you. It's hard to think about his physical skills when I've never actually seen him be that good at football.
Joel Anderson
You're right about Aller. But we should say in 20, 24K club, Nick threw for three, 600 yards, 36 touchdowns and six interceptions. And they went to the playoffs.
Van Lathan
You said six interceptions.
Joel Anderson
Yeah, and six picks. They went to the playoffs, like. And he ran for 463 yards and seven touchdowns as well. He was legitimately somebody that you could project if he was able to build on that season and improve, like, to be elite quarterback. And he regressed tremendously. Now, I'll say this, that team had some problems also. There's a larger issue, it seems like to me, about quarterback development in college football. You've seen some people talk about that. I've. We've had quarterbacks bust out when they were supposed to, like, take the next step. I don't know that I can remember a season where you had this many guys bust out at the same time.
Van Lathan
Right.
Joel Anderson
You had this many guys because you could even throw. Obviously there was injury involved in this. You could throw Lenore Sellers into that as well. And Go. What the fuck is happening on these campuses with these guys ability to. To. To develop this talent? Is it the fact that the influx of players out and in is stopping them from being able to sort of gain some kind of consistency with their receivers? Are they being put in different offenses? Is there. Is current college football just not conducive for players to develop? Or did we just get a bad batch of guys that we overrated because we're into these guys a little bit too much and love watching them talk to Jon Gruden and all of that shit like that. And they just weren't as good as what we thought they were.
Van Lathan
Yeah, that's what I thought. I just think that they're just. It was an overvalued class from number. From J. The thing about Lenore Sellers, I was
Tate Frazier
just like, he's coming back.
Van Lathan
Well, I was just. I saw Lenoris and I was just like, he's really athletic. He's really athletic. But I didn't see a great number two overall quarterback. I was. I just, I just didn't see that. And that's. We got evidence of that this year. I think next year though, I've been. I've been kind of bullish. That Archman. I think Arch Manning is really good and that next year he's going to really show out. Like, I think he'll be. Maybe it'll be tough for him to ever live up all. To all the expectations, but I think that he's going to be a really good playoff quarterback next year.
Tate Frazier
I mean, next year you got Dante Moore, who should probably be the number one pick, right? You got Arch Manning, you got Sam Levitt, who is the top 10 pick, you know, based on this mock draft for last year. Lenore Sellers will be back. Lagway will be a Baylor. Maybe he's back in the conversation again. So there's going to be a lot of quarterbacks next year that should be better. Trinidad Chambliss, of course, Cham.
Joel Anderson
Speaking of Dante Moore, I remember that there was a time when the entire college, entire college football world was making fun of a school from Baton Rouge that couldn't land a quarterback that ended up going to Texas Tech. Well, God damn it. Doesn't God work? Exactly.
Van Lathan
Wow.
Joel Anderson
Right? Like, like I'm just being for, hey, good luck to that young man. And whatever happens with him, I'm not looking down on him or whatever.
Tate Frazier
That's the story of the week right there.
Van Lathan
You shouldn't be.
Joel Anderson
I'm not shitting on him at all. I'm Saying that I'm. Basically, I'm. We could all agree that it is fortuitous that LSU did not end up having him, even though they desperately wanted him. That's. That's a true thing, right?
Van Lathan
That it is true that for LSU fans that they seem to have gotten the better deal.
Joel Anderson
Not. Well, we don't know how healthy Sam Levitt is. But what I'm saying is, like, in that situation, whoever he would have went to is right now in a world of hurt.
Tate Frazier
Yeah. Yeah. Pete Thammel reported Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Swordsby is taking a leave of absence from football for a gambling addiction. He went on to say that sbe bet on Indiana football while red shirting for IU as a true freshman in 2022, a season in which he played a single game as a reserve. The bets in 2022, perforce per sources, were on Indiana to win, and none came in a game in which Schwartz be appeared. So this feels like they're getting ahead of a larger story because it felt like they got a lot of details on some of the bets he's been making throughout his time in college football. But again, never bet on a game that he played in, only bet on Indiana to win. But taking a leave of absence, and he might not play this year. He might be banned. So this was $6 million from Texas Tech. That might backfire. Yeah.
Van Lathan
I just feel sorry for him. I mean, that's the thing I take from it more than anything else. I don't give a fuck about Texas Tech football, man. It just seems that this is inevitable and sort of like the canary in the coal mine. We haven't had an Art Schlitter and a Not Schlichter in a long time. Do y' all remember Art Schlichter? I do, yeah. He was a quarterback at Ohio State in the late 70s, early 80s. The Colts picked him number four overall in 1982, and he only ended up playing 13 games in his career because he had a gambling addiction, and it just took over his fucking life. He never. Man, he was getting arrested for cocaine possession in 2024. Like, he says this, man, I think he's got to be a septuagenarian now somewhere in his late 60s. So he's been struggling.
Tate Frazier
So 66.
Van Lathan
66, yeah, man. So it makes me just. I hope Brendan Sorsby is okay. You know, I know that, you know, the prolifera, the proliferation of gambling companies reminds me of when, like, credit card companies used to set up booths on college campuses, you know, so that you'd Go sign up and you could get a little T shirt and then you could get a, a credit card. And it was just like, oh, now you're introducing us to the idea of predatory lending rates, you know what I mean? And so that's just kind of, I just, you know, we, we're a part of it. Like gambling and AI seem to be the only things that experience any growth in America, but we're just going to see a lot more people struggle with gambling. And we know statistically that men, college age men are the ones that tend to be most vulnerable to this. And so I expect, yeah, we're just gonna, there's gonna be more Brendan sorceries to come. But I was just fucking shocked. I was like, God damn, damn. I've not seen something like that in a long time. Like I just, again, it was inevitable. But to actually see the headline and to have it be that guy at that school, it was just crazy.
Joel Anderson
At this particular time, yeah, it, you know, we haven't seen anything like, like this, I guess in college football, you know, there were some things about kayshawn booty and stuff like that. But if you look in other, other sports, particularly the NBA, obviously there's ongoing conversation about gambling, how gambling is going to affect the minds and the behaviors of these young athletes. But look, let's just be real. We're just in no position to really talk. We're not. And that's the reality. In an economy that is slowing as the American economy is right now, you need sure things. And like Joel said, because of the data center race with AI, people are putting all of their money into that. When that bubble pops, we're okay. Also, and also there's been a lot of harvesting of people's money and their interests that are locked into gambling and like how gambling is influencing this. That, like, that's an easy source of money, right? That's an easy source of, of, of, of, of revenue. And even like not just revenue, cultural revenue. Everybody, like Kevin Hart's doing a gambling commercial. Shaquille o' Neal's doing a gambling commercial. Yeah, everybody's doing a gambling commercial. Van Lathan is doing a gambling commercial. Joel Anderson is doing a gambling commercial. Tate Frazier is doing a gambling commercial. Tape.
Van Lathan
Really?
Joel Anderson
Everyone is tape be doing them a lot.
Tate Frazier
Hey man, I gotta read the ads.
Van Lathan
The show, he's on the gambling show.
Joel Anderson
Sometimes you get a call, you get a call from Tate like 4:30 in the afternoon. Tay will be like, man, I gotta tease Gota out. I gotta fade. Like, I, I love the terminology. I gotta fade. So, look, it's just a part of it. The question is not whether or not gambling is going to be as pervasive as it is in sports culture. It is. The question is, are the universities going to do anything to educate and protect their players from getting involved with this and making sure that there's some type of outlet for them in case they develop habits that get difficult for them to control?
Van Lathan
Man, I. I doubt it. I mean, I. Well, the thing is. No, I'm sure the thing is, is
Joel Anderson
that to me, that they would have to. They would have to, like, protect their investments, right? Yeah, to me, it seemed like they should.
Van Lathan
And every year, and I don't. I don't know how it happens at every school, but every year when you come back, the coaches, you know, go through a whole thing. Like, there's. Sometimes they bring. They used to bring police officers. I don't know if they do that any. And I'm sure it varies from school to school. And you go over, like, all the different ills that might affect you, right. When you're on camp, you know, when you're at a college campus about warning you about drinking, warning you about consent. I'm sure that's a bigger conversation today than it used to be. So, you know, they go through all that, and I'm sure the gambling is a part of that conversation. Like, this is something that could derail you if you really get into it, right? Or, you know, shit, I'm sure, like drugs and all that other stuff, too. So they. I'm sure they do go through it with them, but, man, it's just a bunch of. I mean, these are young men, and now they've got money, you know, now they got. They got money that we would have never dreamed of having. A car, have houses and, man, and I love it for them, but it just also means that they're. They're vulnerable, you know, they. They can. They can make a lot of things happen that not a lot of people their age can make happen.
Joel Anderson
You miss. You miss one thing that people do in college with their friends.
Tate Frazier
What's that? Tussle.
Joel Anderson
Some people tussle.
Van Lathan
Hold on.
Joel Anderson
Some people.
Van Lathan
Hold on.
Joel Anderson
Me and my crew used to be in the union.
Van Lathan
Hold on.
Joel Anderson
Trying to get at females. Trying to talk like we got a female, too.
Van Lathan
There was nothing wrestling. We didn't have. We didn't. No, we didn't have no problem. So I actually had a homeboy who was a former D1 football player and my homie who served over Overseas with the military. Shout out. The military in Afghanistan and wherever else. Iraq. He was over there. And they said tussling was something they did at the time. But, you know, and my homeboy said, you know what it is? And this is, I guess, you know, said, I don't know what it says about y'. All. He said, it's an alpha activity. You know what I'm saying?
Joel Anderson
Tell your homie he's right. Your homie he's right. I wasn't alpha enough to wrestle naked with my guys.
Van Lathan
It wasn't naked. We never. Nobody ever wrestled naked. The best.
Tate Frazier
The best part of last week's show is when you were explaining it to Bill and Bill's face as you were explaining it to him, you know, because
Van Lathan
he made it up.
Tate Frazier
So confused. He did not know what to do.
Joel Anderson
Was talking. When Bill was talking about what they used to do in the hallways and the dorms and stuff. Did y' all get a vision of that movie, School Ties?
Tate Frazier
Yeah, it was. It was some crazy. Yeah, that's a crazy game.
Joel Anderson
He was.
Van Lathan
I was like, that's crazy.
Joel Anderson
Like, who was. Who was. Was outside threatening the whole dorm to fight in the rain. Like, is it. That's.
Van Lathan
They.
Joel Anderson
They in Boston. They. They. It's the Holy Cross squad. They playing highlight against the thing. I'm like, like, was. Was. Was there a Kendrick or Jamal or a Cedric that got to play ghetto highlight with Bill in them, man?
Van Lathan
You know, if. If Clarence Thomas had been there, you know, that's. That's Clarence Thomas.
Joel Anderson
He went to Holy Cross.
Van Lathan
He went to Holy Cross.
Joel Anderson
Yeah, he went to Holy Cross. You know where I learned that? I learned that. Slow burn.
Van Lathan
Slow burn.
Tate Frazier
Oh, yeah.
Van Lathan
Hey.
Tate Frazier
Hey, man.
Van Lathan
Hey, you know what? For real, though? They say Clarence Thomas was a great fucking athlete. Like, for real. Like, the dude. There was a dude in the. In the podcast, Mr. Jenkins. Eddie Jenkins. He played for the undefeated Miami Dolphins in 72, but he played football at Holy Cross. And he said, man, Clarence really could. He was a real good athlete. Like, he could jump. He was very strong. So I. At least I do have to give that to him.
Joel Anderson
You never seen Clarence Thomas do like, you. Like you. Like, you heard one say, you don't have to give him nothing.
Van Lathan
That was in the one. He was an NFL player. Everybody.
Joel Anderson
Have you heard one say that Clarence Thomas was pretty good back in the. Give me. I need some quick. For all the. That Clarence Thomas.
Van Lathan
No, bro, I don't want to give him these props, but he was like, dog, like, he's a. There's a plenty of dudes if you look up like Clarence Thomas weightlifting. I mean, some like that. Yo, bro, like, he was really into some man.
Joel Anderson
Okay. Yeah, I bet he was one of the best tap dancers in the history.
Van Lathan
Well, I'm just saying that's what, you know, Holy cross. That's what's up. But anyway, so, yeah, y', all, you know, again, tussling is not a it. It can be whatever you want to make it, but you all are trying to make it homophobic. And I'm just trying to tell you that. No, there wasn't about that. Sometimes it was just about establishing who was the man, you know?
Tate Frazier
Yeah, exactly. That's all it was.
Joel Anderson
I ain't gonna lie, bro. It's pictures of young Clarence Thomas here. And this was kind of a unit.
Van Lathan
I'm telling you, dog, man.
Joel Anderson
I told you, man.
Van Lathan
Clarence Thomas could allegedly somebody. A couple people have said that he could dunk. He's like five, seven.
Joel Anderson
Yeah, he might.
Tate Frazier
He's five seven.
Van Lathan
Yeah. Kind of Simon shorter, man.
Joel Anderson
Yeah.
Tate Frazier
All right, that is interesting. With judges, you always see him sitting down, so you don't really know.
Van Lathan
You don't see the body. You don't see the body.
Tate Frazier
Yeah, it's kind of a flex for judges out there. All right, there you have it. Let's do a top five headlines of the week quickly, before we get out of here. There's a new number one in the two. Early top 25 after spring practice wraps. Ohio State's number one. Does that check out to everybody? Makes sense.
Joel Anderson
They're going to be number one, two, or three every year in perpetuity. They're running an in. They're running an NFL factory. They are the new Alabama.
Van Lathan
Yeah, they. They sent 11. They got 11 guys drafted off this team.
Joel Anderson
And.
Van Lathan
And. And then that wasn't. That didn't even include their best player who's still on the roster, Jeremiah Smith. So, yeah, man, they're gonna. It makes sense. They gotta lose to me to not believe it.
Joel Anderson
And I say, and I say that they are the new Alabama, because I'm. When Alabama was really rolling, we weren't talking about, like Alabama having the best players in college football. We were talking about Alabama having once in a generational freak phenoms like fucking Derrick Henry and shit like that. And that's what they have now. They put fucking Styles and Caleb Downs into the motherfucking draft and then Reese into the draft like absolute dogs.
Van Lathan
Yeah.
Joel Anderson
And they got to Joe's point. The biggest dog still on campus right now.
Van Lathan
Yeah.
Tate Frazier
Yeah, got the quarterback coming back, got Matt Patricia resigned as their defensive coordinator. So all things rolling for Ohio State. So they're number one right now. Sec. They put this out. I guess this is propaganda piece, but they had this headline, SEC Poised to Dominate the 2027 NFL Trap.
Van Lathan
I like that.
Tate Frazier
As Arch Manning leads wave of stars ready to break league's first round record again. Ten players picked from the Big Ten this year in the first round and the SEC was second best with seven. So they're trying to earn that record back. Van, do you believe they can break the Big Ten record next year?
Joel Anderson
Maybe. But this is cope, okay?
Tate Frazier
This is conference. It does, it does feel like cope.
Joel Anderson
No, it's the way this draft played out is the same way that the actual seasons are playing out. Yeah, the SEC was able to have a lot of players drafted in the, in the middle to late rounds and stuff like that. There's a lot of talent in the sec. The top of the draft though, was Big Ten dominant. Right. And that is the way you see things shaking out in the actual conference matchups right now, which is the Big Ten is absolutely rolling the SEC in head to head stuff in the playoffs. Right. The Big Ten is winning the, the, this won the last three national championships. And by the way, it's not just the Big Ten, it's. The SEC is losing to everyone when they get into the playoff. To me, if people look close enough to it, it is a full on panic, a red alert, which is happening with the SEC going against college football's very best. But when you get below the first team or the, the second team or the third team and you get all throughout the conference, the depth of the SEC is probably better than any other conference. But honestly, that's never what the fucking conference has hung their hat on. What the conference has hung their hat on is dominance of the sport. And you cannot be dominant in the sport unless you're winning the biggest games with the biggest audiences on the biggest stage with the biggest stakes. And the SEC isn't doing that. And it's the same thing that happened in the draft. That was cope.
Tate Frazier
Joel, sounds like that sounds like a point you would make. Joel. Yeah, about the sec, you know. Yeah, yeah.
Van Lathan
But anyway, hold on. So I would, I would make that point and I'm glad. The advantage, accepting the L. The thing is though is that like it's going to switch year to year eventually the Big Ten in the SEC are going to be going back and forth for however long that iteration of college football lasts.
Tate Frazier
I think they are. I think that's what's happening.
Van Lathan
Yeah. I mean, you can already see it. Like the Big 12 and the ACC had much fewer players drafted. Like, I think it was something like they said Texas Tech played eight, played one team with their whole conference schedule, they played against eight NFL players. Right. Texas Tech. Whereas, like, teams play. If you played Clemson, they had. Clemson had nine NFL draftees. You know what I mean? So it's just like there is a big difference now in a growing distance, but, like, it's happening all over the place. There were only four FCS players drafted this. This past weekend. Man, that's crazy.
Tate Frazier
They keep getting pulled up.
Van Lathan
They call getting pulled up. It's just crazy, man. So, yeah, it's just going to be the SEC in the Big Ten eventually. There's not going to be. There's not going to be a need to have that argument because they're basically going to be the only ones that exist.
Tate Frazier
Yeah, the Super Conference. That's where we're all headed. Next up, this is just a random story. Tokyo is going to host Oregon in the landmark football event in July or June, I should say. So Tokyo, Oregon, trying to, you know, make something happen. International college football. It's a big deal.
Van Lathan
Yeah, I love when shit like that happens, man, where college teams get the guy. Get a chance to go overseas and do something cool. Because, you know, for all the talking that they do in college football about the academic side, you know, we gotta. Oh, make sure these kids graduate and they go to class and make sure they're a real part of the program. But the thing is, the players very rarely get to study abroad or do internships that would apply to some sort of profession they might want to do other than football. They almost never get to do that kind of stuff. And so any bit of exposure outside of the football facility that they get to the world, I'm all for it, man. So, yes, great. That they get to go to Japan.
Joel Anderson
I'm gonna tell you something right now, and I hope that the young brothers know this is. Tokyo is not your spot for the young brothers on the football team. Really? Tokyo for the white boys.
Van Lathan
Okay. They don't get. I thought I heard something about. Whatever. Okay?
Joel Anderson
Not Japan. My n. Japan is for the white boys. Okay? Now if you was. If you was headed to, like, you know, maybe the browner parts of Asia, you know, the Philippines, you up. What they should do, what the young brothers should do is have them play a game either in Brazil or the Dominican Republic. Going crazy. All right, we're gonna put a whole new generation of players down.
Tate Frazier
Brazil likes football.
Van Lathan
I mean it's a fellow traveler. I mean look how you talking dog.
Joel Anderson
But if you go into Tokyo, that's for the quarterbacks and for the offensive line, all right? Like that's for the, that's for the kickers. The kickers gonna go crazy in Tokyo. Like that's gonna be nuts. You know who else gonna go crazy? Like the managers of the team. Like all like the Tokyo is for them. That's a misconception. It's a misconception that you gonna go to Tokyo as a brother, as a young brother and turn up. That's not that they don't that Tokyo not on that. That's not what Tokyo on.
Van Lathan
Okay, so for all the brothers that
Joel Anderson
went out there and thought, hey man, we're going to get us a day and we going to go to Tokyo, we going to go crazy, we going to spin over to Okinawa, Kyoto. No, you're not. Japan is not your spot next year. That is different spots you can have but Tokyo not going to be one of them.
Van Lathan
So.
Joel Anderson
But if you. I'm telling you right now, everybody else like, you know, the white male cheerleaders up going well, yeah, like, like they gonna go crazy.
Van Lathan
Well, you know, so, so next year what they should do is they should schedule a sex tourism trip for the black players.
Joel Anderson
Okay, Joe,
Van Lathan
I'm gonna you up because
Joel Anderson
you went after me earlier.
Tate Frazier
Next headline. Next headline. Joel. Former Michigan head coach Jerome Moore's accuser Paige Shiver had her first TV interview since the arrest and firing of More. She said, quote, here's a man that had complete control over me, end quote. So this is a big week for that story to continue getting legs. Do we want to talk about this story or do we move on?
Joel Anderson
No, no, no. That's like that. There's a man that had complete control of me. That's how Joel feels about Bill.
Van Lathan
Okay?
Joel Anderson
No, I'm so done with this.
Van Lathan
Okay, just cause that's your uncle, you know what I'm saying? Okay, I got you back.
Joel Anderson
You took my whole light hearted bit and you threw and you made it dark. You completely killed my.
Van Lathan
Okay, my bad.
Joel Anderson
I got you back.
Van Lathan
You did. That's right. That's fair. But I got you back because you got me first. But that's fine.
Joel Anderson
That's very true.
Tate Frazier
I think it's fair. I think we just handshake deal that we're done with this story overall. We missed the mark from the start. You know, I can't do it anymore. Yeah, right.
Van Lathan
What did, what did Nick Saban say? If I'm ever going to sleep around on Ms. Terry, it's going to be with Hillary Rodham Clinton. You know, just can't just be careful out there, dog. Don't you got to be with people that got.
Tate Frazier
Is that really. Is that really what he said?
Van Lathan
Yeah, yeah. That's a legendary story that he saw passes Hillary Clinton.
Joel Anderson
Well, he was just something. It's basically about how important that tells me right now that at some point he looked at. Because he's a lot of people. He could have said right. At some point Nick Saban. Nick Saban was. At some point Nick Saban was drawing up and he saw Hillary Clinton on TV and he did like this with
Van Lathan
his glasses, like, oh, who's that? Who's that?
Joel Anderson
Like, what's all in that. Hey, what's all in that pants? What's in that pantsuit? What you got going on in that pantsuit? Then he went back, listen, you guys gotta lock in. In intensity. But like he. But no, that. Every time I hear that I think Nick Saban was trying to. On Hillary Clinton.
Van Lathan
That's true. He didn't say Jill Biden, which is what I would. I would.
Joel Anderson
Didn't say Jill Biden, didn't say other people. Michelle Obama, you could say. I didn't say any other people. And I'm telling you right now, shout out to Ms. Terry. Bill Clinton would be down for it. Bill Clinton probably hit. I know. You know football. Would you be interested in the trades? Like, like Bill Clinton. He would be in for it.
Tate Frazier
Oh, that's good. Last. Last story. I just thought you guys would find this funny. Former UNC quarterback Gio Lopez, who is now with Wake Forest, said that the Tar Heels played classical music during lifts and practices. Quote, he said, I'm a fan of Mozart too, but not when I'm on the football field. That's not going to hype me up in.
Van Lathan
Quote.
Tate Frazier
So do you guys believe that. That North Carolina Bill Belichick's playing classical music while during lifts and practices?
Joel Anderson
I don't.
Van Lathan
I feel like that's a made up story.
Tate Frazier
Me too.
Van Lathan
Don't you?
Tate Frazier
As someone who's been to practice, they were not playing Mozart. So I, I don't know about that.
Van Lathan
That doesn't sound. That doesn't sound like a thing that happened.
Tate Frazier
It's a good story though.
Van Lathan
It is a good story.
Tate Frazier
Good sound bite, you know, it sells. I don't think it's true, but it's funny the thought of it.
Van Lathan
What happened To G man Dog, where you think Texas Tech could take TJ Finley right now?
Tate Frazier
Man, I think I would take TJ Finley. North Carolina.
Joel Anderson
Yeah, I. I think. I think TJ Finley would be a good stop gap or a good insurance policy for either school. Because Texas Tech gotta be scrambling right now.
Van Lathan
Oh, yeah. Well, their backup quarterback who was pretty good, Will Hammond. And he looked good against Utah. Yeah. And he's. They think that he might be ready in time for the start of the
Tate Frazier
season, but he got severely hurt. Right.
Van Lathan
It was a. Yeah, he is a season ending knee injury, so.
Joel Anderson
And if they were, that's. If, if they were. If that's sure that he could go next year, they wouldn't have went out and spent $6 million.
Van Lathan
Exactly. Their plan was to not have to deal with that kind of quarterbacking again.
Tate Frazier
You know, that's a good call though. TJ Finley, he's out there. Any team that needs a quarterback, he's our guy. Maybe we have him on the show and have him repitch himself to the people.
Van Lathan
That's right. Yeah, we should.
Joel Anderson
You were acting like. You were acting like he was like Bigfoot. TJ Finley, he's out there, he's lurking.
Van Lathan
I always watch it. You know what I'm saying?
Joel Anderson
Yeah.
Tate Frazier
Shout out to DJ Finley. All right, parting shots, Van. Anything else before we. We got a big week ahead here on Tailgate.
Joel Anderson
I can't wait. Joel, the Duke, they coming in town. We going. Where we going? We going to UCLA this weekend.
Tate Frazier
UCLA spring game on Saturday.
Joel Anderson
Yep, UCLA spring game on Saturday. I can't wait.
Tate Frazier
Your stand up on Monday.
Joel Anderson
My stand up on Monday. Rolling it up, Joe. Like Joel and Billy are staying at. So if you guys want to meet the Gators, go out there, raise the roof, you know what I'm saying? You can beat Billy. You can find what they gonna be
Van Lathan
exactly at night if we don't get our together, man, I'm probably just gonna go out to Manhattan beach, man. Just give me. I like to do that, man. Just get myself something warm to drink, go out on the pier, just kind of walk around and. And hang out at the beach so we don't get our together. I got plans. You know what I'm saying? I can make something happen, Joe.
Tate Frazier
I'm at the beach. Come hang out.
Joel Anderson
All right.
Van Lathan
Hey, I. I was just saying. You asked Riley, you know what I'm saying? Oh, my bad, actually.
Joel Anderson
I'll ask Riley. Hold on for a second.
Van Lathan
You didn't. So you really didn't send it when I asked you earlier?
Tate Frazier
No, he did. I got the. I got the message. Shout out to Van.
Van Lathan
Oh, yeah. I'm looking forward to it, man.
Joel Anderson
It'll be.
Van Lathan
It'll be good times. Yeah.
Billy Gill
Yeah.

Episode Title: Diego Pavia Goes Undrafted, and More NFL Draft Takeaways, Plus Gambling Addiction in CFB
Date: April 29, 2026
Hosts: Tate Frazier, Van Lathan, Joel Anderson, guest Billy Gill
This episode of Ringer Tailgate dives into a wild week for college football and the NFL Draft, blending sharp analysis with trademark banter. Core topics include Diego Pavia going undrafted (despite his college football legend status), key storylines and controversies from the 2026 NFL Draft, evolving dynamics in college football recruiting and development (with a focus on Bill Belichick and Deion Sanders), and the troubling reality of gambling addiction in college athletes. The episode is rich in irreverent humor, spent time on personal anecdotes, and explores broader cultural shifts in CFB.
The conversation flows with high energy, sarcasm, and friendly ribbing. The hosts blend CFB analysis with personal anecdotes and inside jokes. Throughout, they balance deep-dive football analysis with cultural asides—like the text thread misunderstanding, nostalgia for obscure QBs, and the intersection of sports with big-life topics (addiction, sports culture shifts, relationships). The tone alternates between analytical, irreverent, supportive, and occasionally poignant (especially on issues of gambling and player development).
If you haven’t listened, this summary covers all core topics, memorable banter, and CFB/NFL analysis, giving you the episode’s full flavor and main points.
