Van Lathan with the baseball back, back on his shoulder. Good to see you, man. How you doing on the Saturday?
Van Lathan

I just saw a nice kicker there with the name Tate. Joel Anderson also in the building. The place to be with the TCU sweatshirt on. Joel, good to see you, man.
Joe House
Man, you know, this is the first time that I'm going to be doing this while TCU has been playing. So, you know, they're, they're in one of my windows here against K State. So I'm going to try to, as I say, tuck it in today, you know.
Van Lathan
Oh, yeah, let's tuck it.
Joe House
Let's tuck it in. Let's try tuck it in.
Tate Frazier
Yeah, Vans had to go through that multiple times. You know what I mean, where he said LSU games on. We kind of lose him for a little bit while he's watching the games. He's obviously been upset as a booster during some of those.
Joe House
That's right as well.
Tate Frazier
But you're gonna feel that he's put.
Joe House
Some money on it. So he put some money on it. So I'm not gonna feel the same way. And this was actually TCU giving week and I forgot to give my money to tcu. So I've got for everybody that goes to tcu, I'm gonna give my donation eventually. Okay. Just, I. It was a busy week.
Tate Frazier
I do think that's funny. There used to be a day of giving, like Purdue was always the day of giving. They, they made a big deal about that as Purdue's day of giving. Now we've got a week of giving. And if you're a booster, you got a year of giving, right? All, all these guys do is give money to these programs at this point. So a lot happening in college football. Let's start here. One big reaction. We've got some games on the board that have already happened. Obviously. Alabama Mizzou. That was a really, really fun game. Good game in the early window. Van, I'll go to you first. One big reaction so far from today.
Van Lathan
Oh, man. Florida State. I wanted to see how Florida State would bounce back after two straight losses. Obviously the loss at Virginia, people thought they just slipped up because they were looking ahead to the Miami game. The Miami game clearly showed that those teams are on two different levels. Would Florida State be able to bounce back and keep their playoff hopes alive? No, they couldn't. Pittsburgh started, I think it was a true freshman that was playing in this game, throwing the ball around. And this kid did not play a clean game. He made some mistakes, some big mistakes. At the same time, though, Florida State just could not consistently defensively get stops against Pitt and they could not take over the game with their high flying multiple offense to really impose their will. And it looks like what happened in the first week of the season is a mirage. Norvell officially on the hot seat yet again.
Tate Frazier
Oh, my goodness, you're putting it back on the hot seat.
Joe House
On the hot seat again. Hot seat already.
Van Lathan
Look, I, I am the person that watches the post game shows, so I go to war chant radio and all of that stuff. And you, you're starting to hear or you're hearing that there are two things specifically that the fan base up there or down there in Tallahassee has a problem with. Number one, they do not believe in the caliber of athlete that they have. They just don't. They don't believe that they have the elite guys in terms of recruiting to go out there and be a national power. And they don't think that the transfer portal is something that they can lean on every single year. The second thing is they just don't believe in Norvell. His ability to get these guys ready to play in big games. They don't believe in it. So that, that, that right there, quality of coaching, quality of athlete that makes for the hot seat for a coach. This episode is brought to you by Viori. Look, I'm not a big, let's hype up workout clothes guy, but Vuori, I gotta say, total game changer. Been wearing a lot. I mean, I was thinking about that as that game came to an end because, you know, again, there's not gonna be a more inexplicable result maybe by the end of the year than Florida State 31, Alabama 17. Like when we look like we're going to have to just flush that game from our systems and forget that it ever happened. Because at this point, it has nothing to do with what has happened in the season thus far, right? Like, that is not the same Florida State. And as we saw today at al in up there in Columbia, that is not the same Alabama. So I don't, you know, it must have been that Again, Florida State had the element of surprise. They had Gus Malon's offense and Alabama had to, you know, look at a lot of different film in the off season to prepare. And it's just, you know, sometimes things happen in the first week of the season. But yeah, man, thinking about it, Van, I guess, man, Mike Norvell, man, since.
Tate Frazier
Jordan Travis went down, I know, sliding doors, right? I mean, if he doesn't get hurt.
Joe House
They have had a bummer. I see. I really, again, like a lot of people and I'm sure they felt the same way. They thought that that win over Alabama meant something was different. Like there was we. There was a point of inflection for the program and they were going to get what they needed to. But now they, now that they've lost three in a row. All those same complaints that Van brought up is the thing. And That's. That's kind of what I was thinking about. Like, the transfer. Porter Portal. Florida State, once upon a time, used to be a recruiting power in this country. Like, you know, they were a top 10 program. They could get kids to go down there. And the idea that that coach is like, we've got to hit the Portal every year and do it that way. I mean, that's. First of all, there's a strategy that's sort of dubious, but also it's like, man, you're Florida State. Why can't you just recruit and get kids from, you know, one of the most talented states in this country with the, you know, with the mo. Some of the best athletes in the country? Why can't you just dedicate more of your effort to that?
Tate Frazier
Yeah. Pretty fascinating to think about Napier and, you know, potentially Norvell, you're saying, both being on the hot seat right now in Florida with those two huge jobs. And it is fascinating, too, with Florida State. I mean, Norvale kind of talked about it in his press conference. He's like, when we beat Alabama, they stunk. Now that they're, you know, winning all these games and everything, everyone's like, oh, man, the vaunted Alabama team. So they. That win is not going to age well, I guess. But it still was a dominating win. And I do feel like that team still has something there, but for whatever reason, they cannot figure it out. And pit never going to be an easy game by any stretch of the imagination. But this was a pretty shocking result. And Castellano is just looking at his line. 16 to 23, 245, three touchdowns, no picks in this game. So a solid outing from his vantage point. But again, the defense doesn't buckle down for them, and they let, you know, a guy. I mean, he threw two picks, but he gets a nice win there for Pittsburgh. So shout out to Pitt. Nice win again. The ACC continues to cannibalize itself. That is, as is tradition at this point, every time the conference thinks they have something to hang their hat on, it goes the opposite way.
Joe House
How long ago was Kenny. Was. Was Kenny Puckett or whatever his name? Kenny Pickett?
Tate Frazier
Yeah.
Joe House
Yeah. How long ago was he there? Yeah, Kenny Tugler. How long ago was he there? Because it's been. I feels like it's been a long time since Pitt has been able to have a quarterback that can challenge all areas of the field. And, like, I saw that kid play a little bit. Like, man, I. I mean, I guess, like, you want to go with the veteran Eli Holstein is Also in the Arch Manning class. Right. So he been waiting his turn. They thought that he was ready for it. But man, that Mason Henschel, I think that's how you say his name, he looked really, really good. Man. That, that's something I hadn't seen out of PIT in a couple years. So that's, yeah, it's good to, it's good to see PIT be good too, man. You know, I, I, I, I like that the uniforms.
Van Lathan
They were competitive. I'm just saying. Yeah, look, I don't think the PIT has had any tremendous dip. Right. They've played consistent football at a consistent level for the last X amount of years. I don't think that Florida State winning even at Florida State is a measure of how good you are anymore. I think that Florida State is reeling and the reality is, you know, Norvell can say whatever he wants to say, but something was wrong with Alabama that day. Either something was wrong with Alabama that day or they had an entire off season to scheme up what it was that they wanted to do. They were ready. It was a different game in terms of it being the first game of the season. Alabama didn't really have an identity yet. Not saying that Florida State did. Maybe they got theirs quicker, but we've seen them three straight games play this singular profile of football, which is that the defense cannot seem to get stop timely and consistent stops and the offense is not explosive enough to overcome the inability that the defense has to get these stops. So, I mean, they're not dominating anywhere. They're an average college football team, slightly below average, and you only have to be average to beat them.
Joe House
Yeah, I mean, maybe we give Lee.
Tate Frazier
Corso some credit, by the way. Lee Corso, that was, you know, his big shot that he called that day for his alma mater. So maybe there was some magic in the air for Lee Corso in week one for fsu, but yeah, they do not look like the team that they did in week one. Joe, go ahead.
Joe House
No, well, I mean the, the thing I was thinking about is that we really all kind of overrated Tommy Castellanos too. I mean, it's not that Tommy, he's still playing well. He's doing okay. He's okay. But I just kind of felt like we thought that he was Heisman caliber quarterback on the basis of that game. And maybe he's not that. And it doesn't mean that like he's bad or whatever, but like it's the, the, the whole concept of Florida State is a top 10 program again leaned really Heavily on the idea that Tommy Castellanos was going to be a real difference maker. Right? And he's good, but he's okay. And then the receivers and the running back, they still, the running backs are okay. Like that's to, to Vance point. Looking on warchat.com their athletes are fine, but they're just. If you're, if you're a Florida State fan and you've been a Florida State fan for a long time, this does the, those, those skill position guys don't, you know, they don't remind you of anybody that you've ever really been excited about.
Tate Frazier
Yeah, shout out to Dan. He had a great game in that one. Just to give FSU some love there. Seven receptions, 133 yards, two touchdowns in that game. Joe, I go to you, one big reaction from the opening window.
Joe House
So what the fuck was desean Foster doing?
Van Lathan
Like, what happened?
Tate Frazier
You're not a one hit wonder, baby.
Joe House
What happened? What were they doing there all that time? Because UCLA has won its second straight game at Michigan State and they looked really good today. Handily, man, they beat their ass. Like they just slowly but surely took over that game and ran away with it. And I mean, the thing is, we've gone to a point in the year where I was looking at that New Mexico game feeling sorry for ucla and now I'm looking at him like, oh man, they've got a few pieces. Like, it looks like they, you know, they've, they figured out some things. That new Heisel's kid is cooking up some stuff for him. And you know, I don't, I don't know, man, I just. Deshaun Foster, man, he's, he's never going to get a chance to be. Do you know how, like when Mark Jackson, people were like, man, Mark, Mark Jackson did okay with the warriors, but then when Steve Kerr got there, they were like, he unlocked this whole nother layer of ball and, and people were like, oh, so we can't really hire Mark Jackson because he had that kind of talent and didn't know what to do with it. And I feel like desean Foster, who was still in a very tough situation and was not really on a head coaching trajectory at the time. I'm just looking at like how much better they are and how enthusiastic they are and shout out Tim Skipper, the interim coach there because his name hasn't come up quite a bit. But even looking at those kids on the sideline looking, looking at the way that they're playing with a lot more fire and enthusiasm it just looks like a whole totally different roster. And you just got to give them their props. Like I said, my. My. My motherfucking man. Nico, bro. You know, again, you all had all that. You talked all that. The beginning of the year, you said, oh, man, he's. He went over there. He messed up. You know, Tennessee was good to get rid of him. Joey Aguilar, yada, yada, yada. And right now, it looks like he's leading the resurrection of the UCLA football program. He stuck in with. He stuck in with them boys, okay.
Van Lathan
Won two games. Tennessee is currently one of the better teams in college football. I give them a lot of credit. I'll say two things. One, just to let you know that Mark Jackson was some other shit, I think. Oh, you probably know that Mark Jackson shit. Oh, yeah, right From Golden State.
Joe House
That was some other stuff going on.
Van Lathan
He was getting on people's nerves.
Joe House
Yeah.
Van Lathan
In some other ways. Saying some other things, doing some other stuff up there, which is why, you know, his. His. He hasn't been brought back. But to your point, I think the greater point that you were making was that there are coaches that are seemingly able to maximize talent, get the most out of talent, get the most out of their players and get them to play at a competitive, competitive, competent level.
Joe House
And.
Van Lathan
And desean Foster couldn't do that. He didn't do it. They looked like a team that had no identity, that didn't want to be out there. And now they look like a team that is. They look relieved to have the old regime gone. They look like they're happy to be playing for someone new. They're not playing for the national championship, guys. They're not in any way in contention for a national championship or for a conference championship or a. Or for anything. They are playing for the love of the game right now, and they are playing hard. They are playing with discipline. They are having fun. And that was not happening in the first couple of games that you watched them. Totally different team. You got to admit it. Totally different.
Tate Frazier
And it changed, really. I mean, desean Foster, going into the season, there was just already bad vibes. He's like, I'm not going to let my players talk to the media. I don't want to have media coverage around this team. Right. So it was all a lot of strange stuff coming out early on in the season, which just felt like bad vibes. And Joel, you mentioned it. Just didn't have the experience there as a head coach, great running back, legendary UCLA player. You know, you don't want to besmirch any of that sort of stuff with DeShawn Foster. Hopefully one day they can, like, you know, come back and have a nice little Kumbaya moment. But again, this team is, you know, looking like a real team at this point. I did want to ask you, Joel, do you think they hire Skipper or do they, you know, is there, like a house divided moment here where it's like, new Heisel camp versus Skipper camp? Like, what does that look like?
Joe House
So, yeah, this is really awkward, right, Because UCLA has a chance right now. They can scour the whole market. They. Right now they've got a lead on being able to get whoever they want. Right now, it's like them in Virginia Tech and Oklahoma State, right? Like, they can. Or. Or even Arkansas. They're all kind of out there being able to cast these lines.
Tate Frazier
Market's all spoken for. Bobby Petrino right now is.
Joe House
You think. You think Petrino made his claim, too?
Van Lathan
Yeah, I think that's the same way. Honestly, I don't know how I. I think that those guys in Westwood right now are coaching for that job. I really do. I think they're coaching for that job. I think that in my opinion, if. If they perform, they'll be given that job. I don't know if UCLA can go out and attract a whole bunch of people to come out there. I don't know who they can get to come there.
Joe House
That's the. See, that's the thing, right? It's like, I get. I wonder if UCLA is going to take a look at the market and be like, all right, well, we can't necessarily get who we want because of all the challenges. And for people that don't understand that you say UCLA does not have the athletic budget that a lot of other schools do. It's, you know, it's crazy. It's a difficult school to get into. Yeah, it is crazy. But it's more. A little bit more difficult to get kids into school over there. And it has a, you know, not a great home atmosphere because they're playing at the Rose bowl, which is ordinarily pretty cool, when the Rose bowl is happening there, not a UCLA home game. So they do have that challenge. But the thing that sometimes. And, you know, if I'm. If you're a fan of ucla, sometimes you just don't want to fall in love with the interim coach too much. Right? Like, you just don't want to be. Because sometimes you can lock yourself in and waste some time. You can spin your wheels, and it's like, all Right. Were you. Would you have ever considered Tim Skipper to be the head coach in the first place? And far be it for me, because I want the brother to get the job. That would be great. But you just, you. You wonder if, like, maybe before they fall in love with. With Tim Skipper, that maybe they take a look around and I'm sure that they will. But after the game today, they interviewed Nico and he was like, yo, I. Let's keep him. I want him there. Right? And so that's the kind of. They're building some energy around him. And, you know, I mean, he's. He certainly has. Has shown that he. He can tap into those kids and make them play hard for him. For sure.
Tate Frazier
I just had a that's so Raven moment. I just looked into the future and I hear Joel already in my ear saying, tim Skipper, they'll fire your ass.
Joe House
Yeah. You know, but I mean, ucla, man, they've actually hired a few brothers. What was Carl Durrell they've had. I mean, not very many schools have done, but I think to the point, sometimes brothers get jobs because those are jobs that only brothers can take, you know? And I just, you know, I. I hope that if Tim Skipper does get that job that they, you know, try to compete and do a little bit better. Because obviously, you saw Chip Kelly was like, I've had enough of this shit. You know, I was like, I'll just be offense coordinator. I'm cool.
Tate Frazier
Look, and go win a national championship.
Van Lathan
Yeah, yeah. Look it. The reality. It's. They're. It. They are doing a favor. In my opinion, they're doing a favor to the alumni base and the decision makers there. If they continue to win and turn things around, because they're just making the decision easy for them. I mean, it. To be able to capitalize and get a lot out of these players. It's great. There's a lot of interesting scores right now, Tate. You see, you see some of these. Notre Dame is kind of in. In a little bit of a dog fight. The Red NC State has a good.
Tate Frazier
Win on the board, beating Virginia. Right. I mean, they're not a team you can really walk over, so that's something to watch out for. And, you know, last week Notre Dame struggled a little bit more than they should have with Boise State, especially with penalties. So, like, you know, keep an eye on Notre Dame trying to keep the PR up that they can dominate. I did want to give one big reaction here for myself that I wanted to throw to you guys and get your reaction on WAZOO and the PAC12 in general, they're kind of fueling college football storylines. I'm watching this Oregon, Indiana game. Mendoza, Dante Moore, right? 2Pac 12 quarterbacks dueling it out. That's probably going to be the best game of the day, at least as far as I can see right now. John Mateer quarterbacking, you know, with no limitations. This Oklahoma team played at Wazoo. Cam Ward with Wazoo. Wazoo playing down, you know, against Ole Miss. That was a great game. So I just want to give some love to the pack 12. I mean, I know that it's a laughing stock.
Van Lathan
It's a.
Tate Frazier
A joke, but Pac12 deserved better. And I'm still watching college football, and I'm seeing remnants, like little pieces, hor cruxes of the PAC12. And it warms my heart. So I wanted to give a little shout out to the Pac 12.
Joe House
Oh, it makes. It should make me mad, I feel. I mean, the PAC12 should still exist. The PAC12 still exists.
Tate Frazier
Like, I mean, this is, you know.
Joe House
Yeah, okay. It's cool. It's cool. As cool as Oregon being in the Big Ten. The amount of good games it sets up, it's still kind of sad. It just doesn't, you know, like, I guess eventually we'll learn to care about Oregon versus Rutgers, Right? Like, maybe that will become a rivalry. We will never care. Yeah, maybe. I mean, but, you know, I mean, you guys know, USC versus Michigan, That'll be cool or whatever. But I just think that whenever they do. Whenever they do, there's a little bit.
Tate Frazier
Of salt with that. Like, Joel's upset. We're going. Van and I. Oh, crew. We're going to the usc, Michigan.
Joe House
Before you came. Before you came. More advanced. Like, this is how you fucked up for moving from the West Coast.
Van Lathan
Yeah. And I made this decision. Maryland football. You made that decision. Well, firstly, not only are we going to the game behind the curtain. Go to the game, then we gonna get a drink. Then I'm taking Tate to the Seven Veil.
Tate Frazier
Okay. All right.
Joe House
What's up?
Tate Frazier
I don't even. I don't even know where that is. This feels like a Training Day situation.
Joe House
I'm about to be Ethan Hogg, raising.
Van Lathan
Hell at the Seventh Veil. Okay, girls, girls, girls.
Joe House
Oh, okay. It's that kind of party. All right, well, look, all right.
Van Lathan
That's what it is. So, Joel, I'm gonna do the same thing to you. I've done this before at the ringer. I did this to one Mr. Charles Holmes. I'm gonna do the same thing to you.
Tate Frazier
Shout out.
Van Lathan
That I did to Charles, one of the greatest podcasters in the world right now, Charles Holmes. I just peppered, peppered, peppered to one day, boom, Charles is here. Me and Tate about to take it over. This is the new Riggs and Murtaugh of the ringer. The old one was, you know, but this is the new Rigs and Murtaugh of the ringer right now. And then you gotta come be our Joe Pesci.
Joe House
Stop it, Doc. Hey, look, first of all. First of all, what the. Y' all are not gonna make it to the game. I mean, just. Just to be real, such a hating y' all at home right now. They came on camera and I'm like, I thought y' all were going to be at the Coliseum, y'. All.
Tate Frazier
We wanted to be.
Van Lathan
We're making. Not only we making it to the game, it's Saturday. We're gonna get there. We got a field passes shout out to Cody Worsham. We got field passes. We're gonna be on there tossing the pig skin around. I might get out there and run a couple of routes. All time quarterback.
Joe House
Michigan wouldn't even notice. Michigan wouldn't even notice if you started running routes. They don't.
Tate Frazier
I got four years of eligibility. I'm ready. I'm ready to rock. Yeah. I'm excited for that game. It's going to be a great game. I did want to ask you guys one big question here. We've talked around this quite a bit on the show. We've talked about how college football has changed, how it's so different. Right? But if you look at what's happened so far this season, are we back into the same position where the two best teams in college football are the usual suspects? Is it Alabama and Ohio State again? Like, are we really back in the same spot? Do we believe that?
Van Lathan
Well, you have to put Miami in there.
Joe House
Okay.
Van Lathan
I think that Miami's done enough to be considered in that situation, but. And I don't want to be a prisoner of the moment every time somebody plays. Oh, my God. But Ohio State has the one thing in college football right now that a lot of other teams don't have, which is a truly dominating unit. A lot of these other teams, like, who is the most explosive, crazy, put up a million points offense in. In. In FBS right now.
Tate Frazier
Who.
Van Lathan
Who are they? Who are they? No, a lot of these teams can get it done offensively, but it's probably Oregon, right?
Tate Frazier
That's probably the best answer. Closest one.
Van Lathan
It would be the closest answer, but like, even with that, that's a team that for all of the strengths that they have, they're still coming together and they're getting better and better and better every week. Right. Ohio State has a top flight 24 karat gold, a plus plus plus defense with players everywhere, a unit that's going to come out every single day, every single game and dominate. Dominate not keep you in games, not. They are going to dominate and take the will away from the other team and what they're trying to do on offense. And they're going to give their offense an opportunity to stall out a little bit, to figure it out. They, they just lengthened the game, lengthen the game by just putting a chokehold on the opposing offense. And just like the offensive and defensive lines of Miami are units that you can really, that they're going to dominate. That Ohio State defense is a unit that is going to be dominant and that means a lot in today's college football.
Joe House
I saw a stat that they've, I mean, up until the end of the first half today, they had not given up point in the first half this season, which, I mean, just think about the benefit that does that makes, think about how much better that makes your offense and how much more confidence it takes for like a Justin saying and like Ryan Day when they're figuring out what they want to do offensively because they're like, we're never playing from behind, right. If we're holding you to zero points, we're never playing from behind and we can, we have a lot more freedom to try things out and to get just and comfortable in that role and, and obviously he's excelled at that. Yeah. So I, I, I definitely think Ohio State is the best team in the country. Do I think Alabama is as good as Miami? I don't think so because only because like, the lines are the difference. Right. Like, Alabama is good, but it can't really impose its will on teams in the way that it used to. Right. And maybe Alabama's defensive line, it'll pick up, you know, with Tim Keenan getting healthier and he's back, this is his second game, whatever. But I look, they're very good, but they're not dominant in the way that Miami's lines are. And I think that makes a real difference. But I mean, they're, they're right there, which is sort of crazy to think about because I just, you know, after that first loss of the season, we, people are doing, you know, looking at the Zapruder game film like, oh, man, people are Jogging on the field and all this other stuff. People, you know, they're like, look at that guy, he's loafing. You know, this would never happen under.
Tate Frazier
Apologies from defensive players that were getting called out. Yeah, breakdown.
Van Lathan
Yeah.
Joe House
So I guess like I, I mean while I did say that I want to flush that result from the season, it's just like, oh, they do have it in them to go out there and look kind of like they're getting their ass beat, you know, and they to look weak out there. So what? So that is just, it's just one piece of data and a season long thing.
Tate Frazier
But yeah, man, I see Reuben Bane versus Kaden Proctor.
Van Lathan
You know, I love to see it. That would be a matchup because that's a hell of a matchup.
Joe House
Dominic Raiola walked off the field. It looked like a knee injury, man.
Tate Frazier
You know it not good.
Van Lathan
I'm looking around at some of these scores once again. Just check the scores real quick. Indiana and Oregon not at 10. Red river is a barn burner. Six to three. That's the way I like it. That's the way I like. I'm sec. Old school SEC guy. Georgia Tech beat up on Virginia Tech. Notre Dame in another close game with NC State. This is a game Notre Dame better win because if they lose, their season is finished. Northwestern and Penn State 13 to 14. Northwestern in a game against Penn State happening right now. Maryland football right now down 10 against Nebraska.
Joe House
Man, you know I didn't. So wait, who, who's up in, in Penn State? Northwestern?
Van Lathan
Penn State is up one point right now, man.
Joe House
Damn, that's pretty rough.
Tate Frazier
Penn State might save Texas if, if things continue to slide the wrong way for Texas. Penn State laughs and you know all the shot and for that was going to happen from that.
Joe House
Well, yeah, I mean somewhat, but that's not going to do much solace for Texas because once again, man, here we are. Six three. Archie Manning is 10 for 14 for 69 yards. Arch Manning. I'm really, I'm becoming an old man, dude. I just said y' all let me get away with Dominic Raola. And that's not the boy's name. It's Dylan Raola I'm referring to.
Tate Frazier
I called Miller, Mo Moss. Mason Miller because I had the Padres game on. So you know what I mean? Like these things happen.
Joe House
Yeah, these things happen.
Van Lathan
If you've watched the game, they're starting to do something to Arch and it's, it's, it's, it's both funny, but it's also unfair. So quarterbacks Miss throws and they show them in game. You see it all this guys was wide open. It's part of the analysis of the game. They scheme this up. It came open and he didn't throw it. They're starting to harp on every single miss that Arch is responsible for. Texas was driving not too long ago. They. I think they ended up settling for a field goal. But Arch had a couple of times in that drive late where he could have made plays that were there and available that. That Sark had schemed up and Arch didn't make them. And the part of the broadcast right now is going through his game with a fine tooth comb and just showing people how he's not seeing it, how he's a little bit late here. He's a little bit ahead here. His feet are a little bit happy. He doesn't have the arm to make this throw at this point right now. We'll see how this game ends. It's six to three. Mater is. Seems to be a little limited, even though he was good to go. Seems to be a little limited.
Tate Frazier
Thenable said no limitations.
Van Lathan
He said no limitations. But I'm watching Mattia right now. He seems to be a little limited. A little bit.
Tate Frazier
They got a free shot on him one time, like after the. After the whistle and they're running or anything. Half tried to take a shot.
Joe House
Shot. Yeah. Take a shot at him. Yeah, man. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, he doesn't. Yeah, right. Vance point. He looks okay. Like, he doesn't look like with. He's not playing with the same reckless abandon that he was earlier, though. You know, I felt like before all this. But yeah, man, I mean, I just. Again, I mean, you know, quintraveon Wisner has 40 yards of rushing, which is not bad. That's much better than it's been for them. But again, Arch Manning is not as good as we thought he was going to be. That much is clear. But the surrounding, the. The supporting cast, that has been really the surprise to me. Like, again, I just.
Tate Frazier
The O line is. I mean, it's either a penalty or, you know what I mean? Like, it just feels like they just miss assignments, get a penalty, holding, false start, whatever it is. So, I mean, there is a little bit that inexperience on the O line coming back to bite him. But you're right. When they started running the ball, it opened up a little bit more for Arch. I also had a friend of mine text me a Texas fan. He said Arch is the Jaylen Brown of quarterbacks. Anytime he goes left, he's got.
Joe House
Oh, man. Damn.
Tate Frazier
Thought it was a. Thought it was a good note.
Van Lathan
You know, bring Jay LeBron into it. Yeah, it's terrible.
Joe House
I got a championship.
Van Lathan
Speaking of quarterbacks, we talked about Alabama. We talked about, you know, how Alabama's bounce back, but we haven't talked about enough. Does the. The Quiet Assassin, Big Daddy, as Joel calls him. Joel says that his nickname for Ty Simpson is Big Daddy.
Joe House
You know that that order of events is not quite accurate. Should we take the movie poster?
Van Lathan
Look, we're.
Joe House
We're.
Van Lathan
That's right here on Ringer Tailgate. Ty Simpson's name. They. We could call him Ty. Ty Simpson, have him with Rock Nation. But Ty Simpson's name is Ty Big Daddy Simpson, and that's Joel. Joel came up with that.
Joe House
Who's the. Of the two of us, who's the one that says daddy the most?
Tate Frazier
I appreciate.
Joe House
You know what I'm saying?
Tate Frazier
Like all of our producers, everybody.
Joe House
You should take credit for that. Don't you have to throw that to me? You know, everybody.
Van Lathan
Well, you said. I said, should I go to the Texas? Should I go to the Texas real quick?
Joe House
Well, hold on. Yeah, let me make sure that you said record.
Van Lathan
Let me go to. Let me go to the text right now.
Joe House
Let me make sure this is reflected accurately.
Van Lathan
Hold on. This is. This is where.
Joe House
Where, Where.
Van Lathan
Hold on. This is what happened.
Joe House
Hold on, man.
Van Lathan
This is what happened.
Joe House
And I can.
Van Lathan
I can tweet this out.
Joe House
All right.
Van Lathan
Wait a second. Wait a second. This is what happened.
Joe House
This is not fair.
Van Lathan
They're about to score again. Ty Simpson is so good, man. And I ask.
Joe House
Hold on.
Van Lathan
I ask. I said, would you say that he is a daddy? And Joel says, oh, he's a big daddy. Yeah, Big Daddy. Yeah.
Joe House
Wait, but, I mean, I would never. I would have never. I was. I was. I was taking your alley and making it up, you know, you started.
Van Lathan
That's a good name, Ty Big Daddy Simpson. He's a little older. He's waiting his turn. Ty Big Daddy Simpson. That's his name.
Joe House
It didn't come for me, but it's a good nickname.
Van Lathan
Oh, Matier. What a terrible pick.
Joe House
Oh, man, you ahead of me again, man. Damn. So I know something good's not got to happen.
Tate Frazier
He got a hit again, too. Matier down. I mean, obviously, after you throw interception, maybe you stay down a little bit. Now he's back up. He's back up.
Van Lathan
Oh, he threw a pitch. Came to play a little bit today. Yeah, it's end and a half, though.
Joe House
He's going for all he's throwing to the end zone. Okay. Yeah, I'm just looking at it now.
Tate Frazier
Yeah, it wasn't like actually in the field. You know, he was just trying to make a hero play going into the.
Joe House
Although I argue right here that, oh.
Van Lathan
Well, I mean, he sees it. He's trying to actually make this read. He sees a guy coming over there, he just doesn't have enough arm to make that throw and he, he let him a little bit. It's weird. It's weird. Weird. Can we talk about right there?
Tate Frazier
Can we talk about Oregon, Indiana a little bit? Have you guys been watching this game? I wanted to give Indiana some props. They look like the most balanced offense in the country. I mean, Mendoza looks great throwing the ball. Also, this rushing attack that they have is really dominant. So a good game. I, like I said, I think this might end up being the best game of the day. But 1010 right now, Indiana driving a little bit on this Oregon team. Are we shocked by this or do we expect Indiana to put up a good fight?
Joe House
I, I mean, I think this is what we said if. For us to believe it, right? Because again, my theory has been if Indiana had those Michigan Wolverines helmets, we would be like, oh, this team has shown this is a national title contender. Like they went, you know, they lost one game in a regular season and made it to the playoffs, brought basically everybody back and added on a first round NFL quarterback prospect to the top of that. Right? And so like, normally you'd be like, that is a team that is going to be a national championship contender. But we just needed to see against somebody that can punch back or even Oregon who, you know, they've been there before and they, it's reasonable to assume that they have a lot more talent than Indiana. But right now, man, this is about. I mean, Indiana could not do more to impress me other than be ahead right now. Right? Like, but they're right there. They look like they belong on the field with Oregon. That in and of itself is a victory. I don't. I wonder how surreal it is.
Van Lathan
Why are we treating like, why are we treating Indiana like some kind of charity case? Depth being in the game with. This is another separate team in the country. They, they, they're competing right now.
Joe House
What do you.
Van Lathan
I was saying they're a little daddy. Who do you think they are?
Tate Frazier
That's a new segment. Little Daddy or Big Daddy?
Van Lathan
Little Daddy.
Joe House
Imagine, Imagine just thinking about this. If you're an Indiana football fan in your lifetime, could you have imagined a point which you'd be number seven in the country, tied at 10 at Austin against Oregon. A A top five Oregon team like that, that must feel surreal. And so for them to have to believe it, it's like, oh wow, we're just as good as them. We're right there with them. That is a victory. I'm not calling them a little daddy right now. They probably just a regular daddy.
Van Lathan
I'll say this to that point though, the it I'll give you this, the fan base. I can see what you're talking about. The fan base. I'm sure it's going to take Indiana, you know, in, in this resurgence or not really resurgence, this surge of relevance from a football standpoint that they're having right now. Maybe the fan base a second to glom on to the idea that they actually have an incredibly high floor as a football team. And the ceiling itself, we don't know what it is yet. Van Lathan
The field you would have to believe that they fully are bought in and believe in what signetti is doing and they feel like they're on that field to win that football game right now.
Tate Frazier
And they going crazy on the Sidelines today.
Joe House
Yeah, yeah.
Van Lathan
They can't be that surprised by the fact that they're being competitive with Oregon. Like they're there to play. They're in the game like they're in Austin. And the longer they continue to play, the more they take the Austin crowd out of it. And then you have a football game that they can actually steal and really stamp. This is the coming out party. This is the type of game that you need to go. And if you're Indiana, you win this game and you go. We're a powerful football program and we're here, we're going to be here and you're going to have to play with us.
Tate Frazier
And we would ask who's the best team in the Big Ten at that point. Right. I mean, obviously Ohio State would probably be the right answer, but I mean, still, that would be the quote unquote best win out of those groups of of teams. And obviously knocking off Oregon knocks them off their perch as the expected best team. I did want to bring this up quickly. Arkansas, Bobby Petrino. The fighting Bobby Petrino's up 107 on Tennessee right now.
Joe House
Okay. Hey. Oh, man, I would. I wish, I wonder if they wonder they had a Nico to help him out of this situation. Somebody big Nico. That's a big daddy Nico. A big daddy.
Van Lathan
Tennessee just tied it up. As soon as you said 10, Tennessee just started up. Look, once again, it, you know, you're in a situation to where the cupboard's not bare. They have some players that can make some things happen in Arkansas. If Petrino is Petrinoing, you know that that's a guy that can coach some ball, man. Now has he done it in this era of college football? No, but that's a guy that can code some ball. So maybe, just maybe Arkansas under Petrino is a little bit tougher of an out. You don't know. It's the same team, but it's a different mastermind. So we'll see how it goes.
Joe House
Yeah, I mean, dude fired a defensive coordinator. I mean, you know, he's already starting to leave his. That. See again, that's not really an interim coach move. Like usually interim coach don't just get the unilaterally decide to fire the defensive coordinator. Right. But that shows you the sort of power and influence that Bobby Petrino has at Arkansas. He's making himself comfortable again. And so yeah, like maybe, maybe they're tougher out now and they, you know, this is a theoretically, this is a different team with the same talent but just deployed differently under, under Bobby Petrino. So yeah, I'm. It'll be nice to see Arkansas play spoiler, you know, the rest of the year, man. You know, it's. I don't like it when a team has nothing to play for. They just kind of, you know, fold in on the year. So it seems like Arkansas is ready to go under Petrino.
Tate Frazier
Boy, if I'm Petrino, I'm riding out on a motorcycle like next year when he's the head coach. First game, I'm coming out on the field on a motorcycle, you know, just like Wake Forest does for their basketball games. That's the way to do it, you know, you lean in, you make the joke first. You know, you make the joke on yourself and then everybody loves it.
Joe House
I think that's. Do you think you can make that joke to Bobby Pacino? Do you, I mean, do you think, do you think he's in a position where he can laugh about that?
Tate Frazier
Through my soul.
Joe House
Yeah.
Tate Frazier
If I mentioned that I do idea to him.
Joe House
But you don't seem like I got to take a joke. You know something, I gotta take a joke about Trina. For some reason I don't think he.
Tate Frazier
Would take it as a joke. I think he would take it as a poke and then he would poke back for sure.
Van Lathan
Jesus Christ. Oh, daddy, daddy, daddy. But those Arkansas teams used to be shocked. Full of talent. Remember big Matt Jones? I'm looking at him right now.
Joe House
Oh yeah. Ryan Mallet, R.I.P. man, you know. Yeah.
Van Lathan
So like, you know, it's not a program that has not had success in the past and they can be successful there. They just need the right leadership.
Tate Frazier
Indiana up 13 to 10 at halftime.
Joe House
That was pretty half as, let's be honest. Like true serum. Yeah, I mean, don't, don't, don't ride that jock, you know what I'm saying? Just because you don't want to offend the fan base. Did you really think if you looked at, if you looked at if before I asked you before this game and I told you, you would have been surprised that Indiana was up 3 on Oregon at halftime, right? Like, absolutely. You would have.
Van Lathan
Stop the way.
Joe House
No, get out of here, man.
Tate Frazier
I'll admit it.
Van Lathan
It's a winnable game for them. Wait, no, no, no, no.
Joe House
Thanks. Appreciate you being real with me.
Van Lathan
If you would have asked me that, whether or not I thought that they would win, I'm like, that's probably a game that, that, that Oregon's going to win. Like Austin, the way Oregon's playing, whatever. If Indiana would have been up 15, 20 at halftime. I'd be surprised by that. 3. No, not at all. I wouldn't be surprised by that. I guess my question to you guys. You guys were really expecting for Indiana to go into Austin and for Oregon to just roll over them?
Joe House
Yeah. Well, not. Maybe not roll, but if they. If it had come back and it was 24 to 7 at halftime, I would have been like, that sounds about right. Just because, again, it takes a while for you to sort of accept that Indiana is who Indiana is right now. But when you think about it, you're like, oh, yeah, that was a very good team last year. They're a year older. They're. They have a very good coach. And again, they added an NFL prospect, a quarterback on top of that, so it makes sense. But I just had to see it. And now that I see it, I'm like, okay, I can accept that. Indiana is right up there with Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State. Well, I mean, maybe even above Penn State at this point.
Van Lathan
Can I say something about Oregon?
Joe House
Yeah.
Van Lathan
So I'm looking at it right now. This is Oregon schedule this year. Montana State, Oklahoma State, Northwestern, Oregon State, Penn State. So in those first four games, obviously, they rolled 59, 13, Montana State, 69, 3, Oklahoma State. See you, Mike Gundy, Northwestern, 3414, Oregon State, 41 to 7. So those are all gigantic numbers, right? Big spreads. Penn State on the road up in Pennsylvania, Happy Valley, 30 to 24, overtime, game didn't roll. So my.
Tate Frazier
They dominated the first three and a half quarters. Right.
Joe House
And then Penn State played their way back in that game.
Van Lathan
They did. Even if they did, which I. I'm not so sure that I agree, even if they did, they weren't able to put the type of distance between Penn State, a team that is similarly talented as they are, that they've put in some of these other teams. I would venture to believe that Indiana is a team that is similarly talented as well. Now, I say this now. Now they're probably going to score for 30. Unanswered score. The game is going to be 33, 13.
Tate Frazier
It's going to be the North Texas game all over again.
Joe House
Yeah, I know, right? God, man. Tape, man.
Van Lathan
I believe in Indiana. I believe that there's not a team in college football right now that's just gonna go out there and thrash Indiana. I just don't think the floor. The Hoosiers is pretty high to me.
Tate Frazier
I will say the best thing that I saw to confirm that Indiana's for real is they give up that 44 yard, touchdown. It did feel like, okay, there's the explosive play. Oregon's gonna get into a vibe here. And then they answer on the next drive, go all the way down the field. Nine play drive, touchdown. You know what I mean? And it looked like, I think, really, the. The offensive line for Indiana was the most impressive part so far in this game where I was worried about them in the trenches, but they look like they're playing the part. And Signetti, before the game said, we got dogs. We needed more dogs last year and we got them this year. So I'm not into the hype.
Joe House
Yeah, man, they got. I think they have. They have one of the best defensive backs, maybe the best defensive backs in that game of d' Angelo Pond. So, you know, they got that. That's the thing about Indiana, too, because you mentioned the offense and the line. But, like, the problem for all programs when they're trying to make that leap to being an elite program is getting the dogs on defense, right? Like, that's always different because you can. You can build. You can kind of scheme up an offense or whatever, and then, you know, eventually you run against a team that's got better athletes on defense. But it seems like Indiana has a pretty solid defense. I mean, they beat the hell out of Illinois and Luke Altmiren, they made his life live in hell. And right now they're hanging right in with the guy that is the presumptive Heisman favorite and a team that is, you know, pretty much dominated everybody offensively this year. So, I mean, that's, again, a testament to the program that Indiana is and is becoming, that they've got enough guys out there that on defense, they're hanging in.
Tate Frazier
Is there a chance, or should we do this right now? Cross off teams. Can we cross off Illinois? I know that Illinois, they were kind of cross.
Joe House
I don't want to talk about them. I want to talk about IL Illinois. No modus here.
Tate Frazier
Okay? They're crossed off.
Van Lathan
I mean, they didn't play terribly.
Joe House
Yeah.
Tate Frazier
I mean, I like their team.
Joe House
Yeah.
Tate Frazier
I mean, terribly.
Van Lathan
They didn't play terribly.
Joe House
They weren't close.
Van Lathan
Yeah. At this point, you can. You can look and see that there's a clear difference, like a gigantic difference between them and Ohio State. And if Ohio State represents the upper echelon of college football, you also have to compare that game. So what they did, how Indiana did them. You can cross Illinois off.
Tate Frazier
All right, Illinois, you've been crossed off. We do respect you. We do salute the fact that you are a ranked program. And I Said at the beginning of the year I thought they were going to be the Indiana of this year. But turns out Indiana is the Indiana of this year. So, you know, they just are who we thought they were. Contender pretender. Did Mizzou show you enough today to think that they're still a contender?
Joe House
That's a good question.
Van Lathan
That is a good question, Tate.
Joe House
I. I thought.
Tate Frazier
Yeah, right there.
Joe House
Yeah, they were right there. If Alo. If and I guess it depends on what. What becomes of Alabama. Right? We don't know. Alabama still has a ways to go at this point. But I mean, yeah, at this point in the season, they were every bit that equal. They were right in there till the end. They could get the. They ran a little bit. They made things difficult for Ty Simpson today. You know, it's. You know, he's. Ty is still looks very good. Like Ty Simpson looks like a professional quarterback. Right.
Tate Frazier
But it was still like the Heisman Trophy winner. That's what people are saying.
Joe House
I mean it's him A D to.
Van Lathan
Me looks like the Heisman Trophy winner. Joel, say it.
Joe House
What?
Van Lathan
Ty.
Joe House
No, stop it. No, let's get it. That man. Big daddy. I'm not calling no another man a delicious big daddy.
Van Lathan
I don't know what. What kind of hang ups Joel got. Ty. Big daddy. I have a daddy Simpson like Ty.
Joe House
I am a daddy. I'm not gonna call a little Gibson. I'm not gonna call somebody.
Van Lathan
I'll call it to him. I think he's your Heisman. Look, obviously, you know, the more all kinds of. There's guys in the race. The guys. I personally think right now with the way Simpson is playing, if you look at the numbers. The numbers are crazy. The efficiency. He is playing fantastic quarterback right now. Fantastic quarterback. Ryan Williams isn't getting involved, man.
Joe House
They won without. Did he get help? Was he shut out that whole game?
Van Lathan
I don't think he had a catch in the game.
Joe House
Yeah, I don't think he had a catch that whole game. Let's see. I'm looking it up right now, man. I mean that's. I like again, you could not have told me that they could win a game without him catching a pass. Yeah, he doesn't show up in the box score. Ryan Williams didn't have a catch today, man. That's crazy. Which also says something about Missouri's defense, by the way. Too. Right. Like they took some. They were able to take somebody away. Once again, when a team is taking that step to be an elite program, that's when you start seeing the difference when that defense can start making that kind of an impact and taking away great players. And that says something about Missouri, even though they lost today.
Van Lathan
Well, I'll say something else. I mean, the fact that Ryan Williams was missing from the box score, it reflected in Ty Simpson's stat line. He was 23 of 31 for 200 yards, three touchdowns, no picks, played a clean game, but about 6.5 yards a completion. So that means that a lot of the stuff down the field, that Missouri took it away and they did a good job at taking it away. There were some short fields for Alabama and a field position played a part in some of these numbers as well. But yeah, Missouri, I think I looked at the stat. Since Drinkowitz has been their coach, they are winless against ranked teams.
Tate Frazier
I think he got one way. He's got one win, one for seven today.
Van Lathan
Yeah, he's one for seven against ranked teams. But against top 10 teams, I think he might be winless.
Joe House
Right.
Tate Frazier
Yeah.
Van Lathan
Which, you know, that is what it is. Top 10 teams, top 10 wins are hard to come by, particularly in the SEC. But they play really well and they show that they could be competitive with Alabama. Once again, an Alabama team that we've seen their flaws already. They got to win one of these games. Yeah, they, they gotta win one of these games. Once again, the same thing I'll say about, about, about Indiana here, Indiana going up there and being competitive, that's one thing. But when you are announcing yourself as a team that's taking the next step, you gotta peel off one of these games. You gotta win one of these games, man. You gotta.
Joe House
Yeah. I mean, again, like the playoff committee is not gonna be like, well, hey, man, y' all out gain Alabama by five yards. That's really impressive. You gotta win. And the is thing Mizzou, it's not going to be easy. So you go to Auburn. Auburn's just going to be tough because they've got, you know, they're strong along the lines. And you know, they've, they've been in there with every game. They go to Vanderbilt right after that A M, Mississippi State, who's improved. Then they go at Oklahoma, at Arkansas to end the season. So they've got a, they got a long way to go. I, but I, I, if I was a Mizzou fan, I would take heart that they were able to hold Alabama to 325 yards a day, man. Like, that's pretty impressive.
Tate Frazier
And chance. They had a chance, a chance to win that game.
Joe House
They were driving, but yeah, they were Driving at the end of the game with a chance to. To tire, take the lead. Like, that's. They were pretty good.
Van Lathan
Yeah, they. They. They were. They were.
Tate Frazier
Can I just say this? I like drink. I like drink. Wits. I think he's a fun. He's a good character for college football. You know, I love. I want him to do well.
Van Lathan
I want him to do well as well. But at the, you know, same time, you want them to win. You want them to be able to win one of these games. I'm not.
Joe House
No, I'm not.
Van Lathan
Win this one, because in this one, they were all kids. They were all siblings. On the field and across the line of scrimmage, there he was a father, a patriarch, a big daddy.
Tate Frazier
He's got a nuclear family.
Van Lathan
All right, that's crowned by Joel.
Joe House
Get out, Daddy.
Tate Frazier
Trademarked by Jo.
Joe House
Again. Who. Just take a poll on who.
Van Lathan
Who.
Joe House
Who's the daddy thing belong to? Van. That is Van's bit.
Tate Frazier
I think it. I think it is Van's bit. Did he freeze?
Joe House
He freeze, man, he's back.
Tate Frazier
Oh, you froze for a second.
Joe House
Okay.
Tate Frazier
Hey, the logo's gone. Fix the logo.
Van Lathan
Oh, Big Daddy, no.
Joe House
For some reason, y' all root for Mizzou. Yeah.
Tate Frazier
Y' all drink wits. I feel like he's got, like, the. You know, he called himself a dork. I don't really think he's a dork, but I do think that, you know, he tries to, you know.
Joe House
Mizzou fans are like. They're like Michigan fans, but without anything to brag about. You know what I mean? Like, I don't know. It's just kind of. Have you ever see. I don't know, you know, I'm an old school journalist, and so you run into people from the zoo. So you run into people from Mizzou in this business all the time.
Tate Frazier
Schuster Ringer.
Joe House
Oh, oh, sorry. Megan is actually. I love Megan.
Tate Frazier
Megan just turned off the program.
Joe House
Give megas. Sorry, but sometimes Mizzou people just act like, man, I got into Mizzou journalism school. I'm better than you. I just like, yo, come chill out, man. That's a school in the middle of Missouri. You know what I mean? Like, we don't have to.
Van Lathan
Damn, Joe.
Joe House
We don't have to be like that.
Tate Frazier
I'm trying to win bazoo over this.
Van Lathan
I know this is your thing. At the same time, you get all touchy about stuff, but then I just.
Joe House
Not taking credit for big Daddy. That's not mine.
Van Lathan
Straight up. Dis everybody in. Como this. The entire Missouri thing.
Joe House
Shout out Dr. Perry.
Van Lathan
No, my mentor journalism school was like that.
Joe House
Oh, it's like one of the top, you know, top three. You know, it's like Columbia, them, Syracuse. I don't.
Van Lathan
You know, Arizona State had a good journal.
Joe House
They've gotten better in the last few years. Yeah, yeah.
Van Lathan
You just all over them. Yeah, they think they all that. Missouri journalism school.
Joe House
That's right, man.
Tate Frazier
They don't stand in 10 toes down on it.
Joe House
Yeah, I'm real about that, man. I was up there for. I wrote that story about the boycott that they had 10 years ago. And TJ Mo man was up there calling me. I think I want to say he said he tweeted something about me, man. It was like I was like I was starting or something like that. I'm like, bro, your whole team almost threatened to quit a football game because of how bad they would treat the kid. How bad they thought they were being treated up there. I'm not sure at all. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Van Lathan
I remember the strike that they had. All right, Joe.
Joe House
Okay. Yeah.
Van Lathan
So it was on record.
Joe House
Yes. Yeah.
Van Lathan
So real quick here, 107 at the half, Iowa State over Colorado. Let's just say that Colorado will go on to. To. To lose this game and they would then move to 0 and 4 in the Big 12. They be 2 and 5 on the season, 0 and 4 in the Big 12. Now question. It was thought that even though the team in the program weren't elite, that Deion Sanders had taken Colorado out of being a poverty program the way that they were before he got there. I think they had a winless season or a 11 victory season or whatever it was. Are they back in hell if they lose this game and the season continues to go off the rails? Or just to be honest, are Dion's health concerns. Do we care so much about Coach prime that really we don't really give a about the way the football goes in Colorado as long as he is coaching, able to coach and feeling okay.
Tate Frazier
I mean, who's the answer without him? You know, I think that would be my follow up question. You know, it's like, will we get any attention if we don't have Prime? We're talking about him right now because of Prime.
Joe House
Yeah. I guess the thing is, is if you're a Colorado fan today, what do you think the ceiling for this program is? Right? Like, what do you actually think that we can be as it is right now and what, a national championship? Yeah. I mean, right? Yeah. I mean, I was 30 years ago, man. You know, that's like, when people would say, when I was a little kid, they're like, man, you know, army and Navy, you to be really good. They were national powers. It's like, oh, cool.
Van Lathan
But.
Joe House
But. But, you know, so to. To Van's point about Dion, that's kind of the thing.
Van Lathan
I don't.
Joe House
I don't even think there's going to be a decision to make for Colorado. I. What I think is that. And from what you hear from people is that at the end of the year, that Dion's going to step down, because, I mean, it's obvious, man. I mean, he's got a lot of health issues. This is not the same. It would be hard for this to be the same job and for him to feel the same way about it without his sons right by him every day. Right. And it's just like, he's already said, I don't like recruiting. Right. I mean, and so that's kind of a. If you're running a college football program. And now it's like the Dion thing is not really pulling in the kids that you would like ordinarily, and he don't want to recruit. I'm like, well, it seems like we're sort of at an impasse here. Like, something's got to change. So I would. I wouldn't count on Dion being there next year anyway.
Van Lathan
Well, look, I'll be honest with you. It's been fun watching Colorado. It's. Look, I'm not saying it's over. It's been fun watching Colorado these last couple years. It's just yet another storyline in a. In a sport that seems to have an abundance of storylines. If he does step down, then, you know, whatever he has to do to make sure that he's here for himself and for his family would be fine with me. But I will say having Colorado around to ruffle feathers for the last couple of years has been fun, and I hope it continues. You know, every time Dion lands a big recruit, every time somebody decides to go into Colorado, every time somebody goes up there to Boulder, it may be it makes people a little uncomfortable.
Joe House
Yeah.
Van Lathan
Maybe past iterations of college football would have been easier for Deion Sanders. Maybe nil transfer portal stuff, it's a little bit too much, but who knows? Who knows, man? Who knows?
Joe House
Yeah.
Van Lathan
I hope he stays around.
Joe House
Well, you know, the thing is, is that everybody can do what Dion did now. Right? Like, I mean, first of all, they don't necessarily have to have a coach. They can have a GM or somebody affiliated with the program. That's a big name, that local celebrity, and then they can turn over their rosters. That was something that. When Dion did it, it seemed not unprecedented, but it was like, you're going to bring in 80 something new kids. That's crazy. But now that happens with a couple teams every year now. So. Yeah, I. You know, and certainly we're never going to have another college football coach who's dated Karrueche. You know what I mean? So, I mean, it's just shout out.
Tate Frazier
To growth on your part, Joe. You. You got the name locked down?
Joe House
I figured it out. I figured it out. What is Cristobal. Cristobal, yes.
Van Lathan
The head coach of the Miami Herd.
Joe House
Okay.
Van Lathan
Somebody.
Joe House
Somebody tweeted to me. I wish I could remember. He said that. I wasn't that far off. There was a brother, and he seemed like a. He was Afro Latino or something. And he said something. We actually pronounced.
Van Lathan
Wait, he gave you a cultural.
Joe House
Yeah, he said. He said. He gave me a cultural pass. He was like, yo, where I'm from, or whatever. I don't know if he said. That's how I said it. Yeah, he was just like, yo, you're not that far off. Like, don't let them give you about it. Because that was kind of a close pronunciation. I don't know how he got. You know, it could be. Did Mario crystal ball Americanize it for y'? All, you know, and people made it easy for us. Crystal ball.
Tate Frazier
You know, I want to go around.
Van Lathan
I do want to say something.
Tate Frazier
Yeah, go ahead.
Van Lathan
I want to say something to the audience real quick. We're coming in a little earlier for you guys this week. Tate and I are going to the game. We got some. Bring your tailgate stuff to do. I just want to tell you guys, I'm. I appreciate you guys hanging out with us a little bit earlier. I know that the games are going on and all of that stuff. I'm even watching NC Central vs FAMU and some HBCU stuff.
Joe House
Is it really? Oh, yeah. You got that game right now.
Van Lathan
Put that on the US So appreciate you guys hanging out a little bit earlier for us, so. Yeah, because we're.
Tate Frazier
Yeah, I like the shout out there, and I like the acknowledgment. Look, we're trying to, you know, Course. Correct. Make things work. And shout out to USC for hooking up Van with the field passes. And shout out to Van hooking me up. Joel. I don't smh right now.
Joe House
I just don't think. I don't think in the end. I mean, not to be a hater right now.
Van Lathan
That's what you do.
Joe House
But I don't think this is going to pan out. I just don't, like. I don't think it's ultimately going to be worth it. I think you would have gone early for no reason. And you guys are going to get there late, bro.
Van Lathan
Like, you are the biggest hater.
Joe House
I don't think I'm going to.
Van Lathan
You were going to watch the whole game in Club 1923, that little club level did they got us hooked up.
Joe House
Is that nice?
Van Lathan
Yeah. I don't know.
Joe House
Like Coliseum then.
Van Lathan
And then after the game, we gonna walk through the neighborhood, put Tate on Hoover Crip. We gonna find somebody in the neighborhood. We got three goals. I'm a. I'm a shout out T Rail. Shout out smack. Shout out. Like we go. We gonna find somebody to put Tato.
Tate Frazier
On there.
Van Lathan
Right after the game. I'm a hit T. Rail.
Joe House
I'm a hit smack.
Van Lathan
I'm gonna hit some of the other Hoovers. I know Tate gonna be throwing it up. He gonna be wearing a Houston Astros hat the next time y' all see it.
Tate Frazier
Sounds like I gotta wear blue to the game.
Joe House
Yeah, well, you wear blue anyway. You already don't wear blue.
Van Lathan
That's what. No, it's the Hoovers. It's not even Hoover. The Hoovers are kind of. Is not. Some of them are Crips, but then some of them aren't. They made their own gang, the Hoovers did.
Joe House
So they're not blue really.
Van Lathan
They were like, it's orange. So they wear orange. Yeah, don't wear blue.
Tate Frazier
I'll just wear cream or some black. You know, something white, maybe. I don't know. We'll figure it out. Virginia Tech coming back on. Georgia Tech 2114 right now. Just going around the horn. Some of these other games that are in action. You mentioned the NC Central game. Air Force, unlv. I know a lot of people aren't keeping up with UNLV. They are 5 and HO. Dan Mullen doing a good job with his team, but Air Force giving him a test today. How much do you really care about that game, if any at all, Joe?
Joe House
Oh, I do care about it because, I mean, UNLV is not totally out of the running to be that G6 representative. Right. I mean, if they go undefeated, USF.
Tate Frazier
In pole position right now and they play.
Joe House
Yeah, but I mean, you know, if. If. If UNLV continue win and, you know, players in that conference championship, they have a real good shot at it. And also I mean, my thing is I, I think Dan Mellon's a really good coach. You know, like, I mean, if you can win at Mississippi State, and it's kind of the way I feel about James Franklin winning at Vandy, if you can win at Mississippi State and build, you know, a competitive SEC program there, then you're a really good coach, man. And it could just be, you know, I think UNLV is one of those schools that there's an idea that, man, one day somebody's going to get there and just be able to take advantage of all the things that Las Vegas has to offer. And, you know, they'll get kids that are transfer. Want to transfer there. There's that area. Metropolitan area is growing and does play some pretty decent football. They got Bishop Gorman out there. So. Yeah, man. Like, it's. It. Maybe it could be kind of school where, you know, Dan Mullen can have this second act for his career and, and do well out there. So, yeah, I'm, I, I, I, I definitely. I'm, you know, I haven't had a chance to see football, to be honest. I've seen a little bit, but I'm looking forward. And also, man, Vontes Burfi, bro, you know, he's on that staff out there.
Tate Frazier
So we're getting him on the show. By the way, I. I somehow got connected with Vontes over the years, and I told him we need him on the show, so we're gonna make that happen. We're.
Joe House
This ain't a joke.
Tate Frazier
This is real. We're gonna get.
Joe House
Man, please, man. Yeah, what you just bringing that? You brought that up on here? Like, we've talked about that before. I. Oh, that's amazing.
Tate Frazier
Shout out to my guy, atm. He hooked it up. He played football.
Joe House
Man, you people in la, man, y' all always got some friend, man. My boy did this for me.
Tate Frazier
I need ATM and smack the link up at some point.
Van Lathan
Smack T Rail. Everybody go check out the Back on Fig podcast. Back on Fig is the name of it. Shout out to my. My homies Back on Fig podcast. Shout out to AD and them for community. Shout out to all the people that's really holding down LA culture out here in la. I with y'. All. And if I need y' all later, I'm gonna call you.
Joe House
Yeah, you're gonna need them because y' all about to be late because y' all not gonna make it.
Tate Frazier
No, we're gonna wrap this thing up here. Just got a couple more things I want to hit, obviously. Oklahoma, Texas, second half Happening Indiana Oregon, second half happening right now. Now, looking at the later slate of games, Florida, Texas A M, Georgia, Auburn, Michigan, USC will obviously be at that game. South Carolina, lsu, byu, Arizona, Arizona State, Utah. Of that group of games, which one are you the most excited to watch? I'll go to you first, Joe. I feel like Van and I probably have to say the USC game a little bit.
Joe House
A little bit. Oh, yeah. Don't pretend like you're gonna be watching any other games because y' all gonna be down there on the field. Allegedly.
Van Lathan
23, baby.
Joe House
Allegedly. Y' all gonna be able to get, to be able to get over there and do all that. I, I, I think that Florida, Texas A M game is really interesting because again, it felt like Florida again. It's so good to see a team that they have a rough start and you think, man, they can go one direction and then they do something, they pick up a little confidence and you can see, oh, wow, now they've got Dallas Wilson. Maybe they can figure something out. You know, DJ Lagway looked much better than he had before. That defense is still pretty stout. So, yeah, man, I'm really interested to see if Florida is real. And also, again, my entire life that Texas A and M has lost this sort of game. Like, people have expectations for them, and then they play another team that can fight back against them and they lose, lose it. I mean, this was really say something about the type of top five program, if they're really a top five program, if they can just go ahead and dispatch with Florida, don't give them any hope and defeat them in, in, in front of that crowd there at Kyle Field tonight. So, yeah, I'm, I'm interested in that. And also, you know, man, just the weirdness of Cal Phil at night, it's, it's kind of a pretty cool scene. Yeah.
Van Lathan
Tough place to play. Obviously, it's the, the, the, the, the USC game for me. Shout out to everybody out there. That's, but we, we also want to see the way hbo, hbo, the way LSU responds at home against South Carolina. Look, the, the spread of the game is nine and a half. Everyone expects LSU to come out after their bye week and get right here. South Carolina has a lot to play for. They have a lot to play for. They're having a season. Excuse me. That's been underwhelming by, by their fan standard and by their culture standard. So they want to come out here and they want to win. So LSU is going to be in a game that's going to be played with A lot of competitive juice. Arch managers threw a touchdown pass, by the way.
Joe House
Yeah, yeah, they up 10, 6, so.
Van Lathan
Yeah. So. So, yeah, that's another game that obviously, as an LSU fan, I will be watching while we are at Club 23.
Tate Frazier
Are you. Are you going to wear the LSU sweatshirt to the game?
Van Lathan
No, no, I won't. I'll just wear something that just. It's nothing. No, I won't wear it. But, bro, y' all got it.
Tate Frazier
Should I wear something? Usc. I got a bunch of usc, bro.
Joe House
Y' all don't even pick y' all clothes out yet, man. Yes.
Van Lathan
My is hanging right here. I'm ready to go.
Tate Frazier
I'm like, should I wear USC gear?
Joe House
People.
Tate Frazier
People get mad when you, like, you know, they're like, you know, my culture is not a costume with the. With the schools. You know what I mean? So you.
Joe House
Y' all gonna be on the sideline if y' all gonna be on the sideline or wherever that club is. Yeah, I'm in.
Tate Frazier
I'm in. I gotta support Joel. Last thing. TCU right now down to Kansas State. We did need to bring that up before we get out of here. 14 to 7. Are you worried? What's your. What's your level at this point?
Joe House
Of course. I mean, my panic level is eight. I mean, one thing about it, K State is the best 2 and 4 program in the country. They're not bad. They're, you know, they're a pretty good team. And the thing is, if TCU loses to them and you'll be like, man, they lost to a 2 and 4 team. But actually, K State is pretty good in. Under normal circumstances, they hadn't had a couple of weird bounces, they probably would be a, you know, 20, 24th, 25th ranked team in the country or something like that. It's not easy to play in Manhattan, Kansas. So, yeah, like, I don't think there's that much separation between TCU and K State, to be honest. And so, yeah, they could absolutely lose this game. Also, TCU lost his left tackle earlier this week. He got hurt and he didn't play it in this game. So it's just a lot. Yeah.
Tate Frazier
Actually, Kansas State doesn't have Dylan Edwards.
Joe House
You know, it doesn't. That's fair. I mean, they never have Dylan Edwards. They never have that.
Tate Frazier
That's the first play of the season. Weeks. Yeah.
Van Lathan
Right.
Joe House
I was like, when is case they ever had. So, yeah, man, I just. My panic level actually is probably more of a nine, so I don't. I, you know, I'm, I'm sort of a fatalistic fan. I don't have a lot of faith in my teams. I was a Houston when they lost that 35 to 3 lead in the playoffs. Like, that's like the defining sports event of my fandom life.
Tate Frazier
So, yeah, yeah, it's better to be that way. I feel like as a fan, you know what I mean? When you're too optimistic, things will really break your heart. Parting shots, Van Last parting shot before we get out of here.
Van Lathan
My parting shot is it comes after something that we talked about on the last show. On the last show, we talked about Karen Lacy and the evidence that had come out that seemingly exonerated Kyron Lacy, involving, as far as what he was accused of, the crash that, that took the, the gentleman's life. Look, what I'm trying to say is this. Everybody reacted to the, the evidence that they saw. Everyone. You've seen everyone walk it back and you've seen a lot of apologies. No one is asking me to address this or no one is asking for me to come out and talk about this. But I care about what you guys think about me and I care about what you guys think about what it is that we do here in the show. Since the evidence that the Louisiana State Police put out has come out that seemingly made the state police seem like they were on the up and up with their, their contention in their, I guess, observation of what happened in their investigation. There's been more evidence that's come out, prosecutors report, that disputed a lot of the police's claims about what happened. So there's been a report that's come out that the DA's office looked into it and a lot of what the police said happened. The DA said that didn't happen or, or that it was inconsistent. I'm babbling and let me tell you why I am not here. I mean, everything that I said, everything. I am not here to straight up litigate the facts of this case. These facts are still coming out. And now what you guys have is a pissing contest. And the pissing contest is involved with the Louisiana State Police, who. They don't want to look bad. The whole legal infrastructure of the United of Louisiana doesn't want to look bad. Everyone involved with this doesn't want to look like there's any malfeasance or anything that's gone wrong on their behalf. I get that and I understand that. Right. There were people that were talking about Kyron Lacey legislation in Louisiana. It was becoming a big deal. Let me tell You. What I care about. What I care about is the human beings involved in this. And that's the man who lost his life, and that's Kyron Lacey. You have a serviceman, a veteran that lost their life in this situation, whose family probably has all kinds of questions that they want answered. You have Kyron Lacey, who is also gone now, and he's gone now in part because of a reaction by a public and a media that didn't have all of the facts, and we still don't have all of the facts. The emotion that I felt was real, and that's the emotion that I feel from growing up in South Louisiana. And year over year over year over year over year, watching people. I'm just gonna be honest with you. Watching the police take advantage of a community, encroach on the community. I was handcuffed in my driveway when I was a kid. All of that stuff. So I'm seeing that, and I'm responding to that, and I want it to change, and I want it to stop. And I also want young athletes, black and otherwise, to be safe. I will continue to follow this story as the story is updated, but I would not be y' all homie, which is what I am on this camera and on this mic, if I did not come out and say there's more than what was said at first. There was more than what was said in response, and there will continue to be more until we get to the end of this. And I and other people are not going to stop looking into this. We need all of the facts so we can properly contextualize what happened.
Tate Frazier
Yeah, I love that accountability, and I love. You know, again, this is a very tragic story, and that's really what it all comes down to. So I appreciate you talking about that and speaking on that. Van and Joel, last thing. Parting shot from you.
Joe House
Yeah, no, man, that was well said, Van. And, yeah, I mean, there's still a lot that's gonna come out about that case, and it's totally appropriate if you're from wherever, you know, from where people are from, and if you've lived long enough to be dubious of the police and, like, what a police statement is in a situation like this. So, you know, like, we'll. We'll all figure it out. But the broadest point is that Kyron Lacey should still be here and that we were really disappointed in how Brian Kelly addressed his team. You know, like, it just. We can still say. We can still say those things. The real quick thing about the Brian Kelly thing is, again, the way if you coaches spend so much time trying to build, like, the idea of family, like, we're all part of a family here when we come down to this place, and I'm gonna take you, build your kid and mold him into a man or whatever. And then when something really tragic happens to them or one of the family members and you say, nah, I didn't talk about it to them. They know what's going on. Like, that's not how. That's not. That's not how you run a family. Right. No, you talk with them and check with them and make sure everything is okay. The man, the young man still lost his life, so you know that there's that also. Real quick, I want to shout out all the people that are chatting to us, bro. See Angie, Pizza philosophy. Chase Thompson, Diego Meja, Resumilitude gaming. Mikey Taylor, Joe Dorvin, Shout out.
Tate Frazier
I love it.
Joe House
Yeah, man. The people that are down in here, man, they over here talking, talking about us, bro. They said, first black, black Texas touchdown. Also, Tate, they said that you might get jumped in tonight. So if you get jumped in, you got to fight back. Yeah. Can you walk, man? Can you walk?
Van Lathan
Nah, I can't do that. My knees are too bad. Now I'm £270.
Joe House
Well, it didn't really require a lot of me work. It's more, you know, but you.
Van Lathan
When you jump.
Joe House
Yeah.
Van Lathan
You land.
Joe House
Yes.
Van Lathan
And the landing is what's starting to get me. I was. The landing is what's starting to get me. I got. I literally got braces for my Achilles earlier. They came in the mail from Amazon. So.
Tate Frazier
Yeah, be careful out there. Two of my friends that just tore their Achilles recently playing basketball.
Van Lathan
All right. God damn it.
Joe House
I told my Achilles 20 years ago playing basketball, so. Yeah, I know what that's like.
Tate Frazier
I know. I'm scared. Cool. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know if I need to play. Fans upset now.
Joe House
Yeah.
Van Lathan
Let's get the show over.
Tate Frazier
Yeah.
Joe House
All right. Good luck. Yeah. Cause y' all gotta rush to get down there, man. Good luck.

Hosts: Tate Frazier, Van Lathan, Joe House (with Joel Anderson referenced throughout)
Theme: Real-time, high-energy reactions to Week 7 of college football, focusing on major upsets, coaching hot seats, breakout players, and the state of powerhouse programs.
This week's Ringer Tailgate LIVE is a rollicking, banter-filled tour through Saturday's jam-packed CFB slate. The crew reacts live to the Red River Rivalry, bemoans Florida State's collapse, debates the real "big daddies" of the sport, breaks down the balance of power among the best teams in the land, and spotlights coaching chaos from Tallahassee to Westwood. Notable moments include the crowning of Ty "Big Daddy" Simpson as a (maybe) Heisman front-runner, love for the dying embers of the Pac-12, and candid reflections on off-field controversies.
This episode is a showcase of the “ultimate CFB hangout”: unfiltered, immediate, a mix of hard analysis and hilarious banter. You’ll come away knowing why FSU is in crisis, who the true elite teams are, whether Ty Simpson is the real Heisman favorite, how coaching changes can transform a program’s vibe, and why Indiana’s time in the sun is a bigger deal than you might realize. Plus, you’ll pick up the latest on college football’s wildest stories and a few inside jokes to boot.
