
This week, hundreds of thousands of people in France and Spain were forced to leave their homes and holiday accommodation in one of the largest peacetime evacuation operations in modern European history. Meanwhile, Greece, Italy and parts of Central Europe are expected to face heightened wildfire risk in the coming weeks. In France, the worst affected area has been the Gironde, near the city of Bordeaux, where residents have been wearing masks to cope with the smoke. We speak to a Bordeaux resident about the situation there.
