I'm from Frisco, Texas, so I've been around the less melanated my whole life. So I was like, let me just.

Yeah, so I'm from the Golden Triangle. So very small, giving sundown town as well. So you fit, right? You did a good job. You didn't make any sudden movements?

Cause, you know, there's some moments where it got a little tense and that part I was like, oh, they about to start. They about to get to tarring and feathering my ass. I got to get up out of here. I was a little worried. I was like, I can't be nosing around too much. And then when that one black man came in and Norman, I was like.

He was like, norman, thank you. He was Norman to save the day.

He was the one and only black man I saw in Dixon. Like, no lie. If you weren't on my team and with my crew, then I didn't see no other place.

I appreciate that. Yes. And Lex, I have to know, so what is your relationship with scams? Because you live in Atlanta now and I know that, you know, Georgia has the highest GDP for scams in the U.S. really? So. Yes. So you're living in the Mecca.

Yes. You know, it's crazy because when I first moved To Atlanta in 2017, I was a very. I wasn't green, but I was still kind of like, not aware of how Atlanta gets down because it's a lot different from Houston. I feel like in Houston we have a lot of, like, oil and gas guys, doctors, a lot of athletes in Atlanta. They got the scammers, baby. Yes, they are here. The scammers are here. So I learned very quickly not to. When you swipe your card at the.

[Lex P]

Gas station, you really pull on that joint.

[Lacey Mosley]

You really need to go inside. Don't swipe it at the gas station. Go inside, grab you a little hot Cheeto, grab you a little Celsius, and just pay for your gas on the inside. Because they have these machines that they will literally hook up to the gas station and swipe all your card information. So I've had a few run ins with, like, my card information getting stolen.

[Lex P]

Same from a gas station.

[Lacey Mosley]

And, well, it got stolen from one of these scammers that were, like, texting me. So what I think it was is, like, you know how, like, you sign up for, like, to go to a club or something, and then, like, they keep texting you information? Well, I think something had got my number, so it texted me. Like, it was Verizon.

[Lex P]

No.

[Lacey Mosley]

So I'm thinking I'm like, not the.

[Lex P]

Club promoter being, like, free before 11 in one thread. And the other thread, he was like, this is Verizon girl.

[Lacey Mosley]

So I'm thinking I'm, like, paying my phone bill, my phone about to get turned off or something like that. And then it's like, I checked my account, and it had charged it for, like, $1,000 something dollars. Mind you, I didn't even have $1,000.

[Lex P]

Oh, no.

[Lacey Mosley]

@ the time. So I'm like, y'all may be going to, like, negative $999.

[Lex P]

I had $1.

[Lacey Mosley]

So I have been scammed before. But I've also dated a little scammer, so I've had, you know, a good time with it, too.

[Lex P]

Yes.

[Lacey Mosley]

You know what I mean?

[Lex P]

And you know what? You can tell when you're dating a scammer. My homegirl was dating a scammer. And I remember we were at the SLS Hotel in Los Angeles, and the scammers love that hotel in Los Angeles. And we're there. I went to the hotel room that he had had, and I. And it was just like, way too much random designer stuff that, like, really wasn't out yet. And, like, just like, he used to be a basketball player overseas. You know, they don't make that much money overseas, the men.

Yes.

[Lex P]

Then now he, like, when he described his job, it was very. It was like I felt like someone was reciting a poem to me.

[Lacey Mosley]

Yes.

[Lex P]

Like, it was very Metaphorical. The job, like, it was like, it was, you know, very much about a lot of fluff analogies. Yeah, yeah. It was like, you know, I manage like the comings and goings and heretofore with. And I'm basically on the operational side of the growth and the management of, you know, and overseeing the projects.

Yeah, that's why I have to oversee a project, baby.

And I was like, we were cool enough that I was like, yo, are you a scammer? And he was like, yeah, basically. He was like.

He just said that.

And I was like, oh, I do a podcast. He was like, oh, I could teach you a lot of things. I could tell you lots. I was like, okay.

Oh my God, that is hilarious.

So did you know like at the time when you started dating that they were scammer or did you just like kind of figure it out?

[Lacey Mosley]

So how it happened was really crazy because one thing that I learned because I used to work in the strip club.

[Lex P]

Okay. Yes.

So I done been a lot around. I've been a lot around.

[Lex P]

This shopping was like fodder for scammers. Like, that's what it is. Yes.

[Lacey Mosley]

And when I first started working at the club, I worked around a lot of street pharmacists, as I like to call them.

Pharmacists? Yeah.

[Lacey Mosley]

You know what I'm saying? So I've always kind of been around people who did not the most legal things. So when I, at a young age working in the club, I learned to not really ask what a guy does for a living if he's not open with it. Cause I feel like if you're a career oriented person, that's really the first thing you talk about when you're getting to know somebody. So if a guy don't bring that up, I really don't ask. And if he don't bring it up, most likely he does something that you don't need to know, Lex.

You don't wanna be an accessory.

I don't know nothing. I don't know nothing. Look, I just met Little man man yesterday, okay?

I don't know what he does. Little man man took me to Gucci. And yes, he pays for everything in cash, but I don't ask.

Dang. I don't ask. So in my situation, what had happened was, I remember we were going on a trip. Like he invited me to go on a trip. So I'm like, okay, of course I wanna go on a trip. And he was just like tripping about the flights Like, I was like, it doesn't matter. Just get us a flight. Like, I wanna leave on Thursday, let's say. And he was like, well, what if we leave on Wednesday night with this red eye or this and that. He just kept making a big deal about the flights for some reason. And I just remember it just taking us a long time to book the flights. So eventually we booked the flights, we went on a trip, had an amazing time, Everything went smooth. So like, maybe a few weeks later, and around this time, like, we had started kind of falling off. It didn't really work out. And I have, like, my Facebook and my social media that I use, like, for my job. And then I have, like, my private Facebook that's, like, from high school and family and all this stuff.

[Lex P]

Exactly same.

[Lacey Mosley]

So I'm just on there checking my messages, thinking I'm finna say the hey, Lil Sydney from third grade. And I get this message from this guy, and he's like, excuse me. And he says, my full name.

[Lex P]

No.

[Lacey Mosley]

He said, how did you get my information to use my miles to go on a trip? He said, you and xyz. He said, the guy's name. His full name. And mind you, he was Nigerian. That's a long name. Now, baby.

[Lex P]

Now he got all the N's and the.

[Lacey Mosley]

Oh, my God.

[Lex P]

Homo niger. He's.

[Lacey Mosley]

I was horrified. He said, y'all. Cause I guess basically whenever he got the flights, he broke into somebody's account, used their miles to get our flights.

[Lex P]

So that's why he was probably like, okay, can we take this red eye or do this or whatever. Cause he's trying to use the right amount of miles. He's like, I don't have a certain amount, so we have to.

[Lacey Mosley]

I said, look, I did what I had to do to pay for my portion of the trip. Now you got to get your miles back on your own, John.

[Lex P]

Yeah, that's not. That's not my problem. Also, like, booking a flight on somebody else's miles, like, flight booking, credit card theft is very. That's very tumultuous because you have to give so much information when you book a flight. You can't just be like. It's not like a random swipe purchase where you can go to a Gucci store and you don't have to say your name or you can go wherever. Don't have to say your name. A flight. You have to give your, like, a flight asking you for your retina, your booty hole, like, everything. So scamming for flights is a little rocky for me. I'm glad you got rid of him. Cause he's not a smart scammer.

But, you know, I was a bird. I said, oh, he went through all that for me. He's so romantic.

Oh, my God. He got miles for us. They weren't his miles, but he had miles. He broke into somebody, dealt with.

This is real love, right? Y'all. When y'all got called up as platinum Honor, you were like, we platinum honor. We gold medallions.

[Lacey Mosley]

I'm not gonna lie. We in first class, too, girl. He had the nerve.

[Lex P]

We go medallion, ruby status. Yeah, okay. I'm not mad at it at all. And also, that's why John was mad. Cause he's like, not only did y'all steal my points, y'all stole a lot of my points.

A lot, a lot.

Cause did y'all go. Did y'all leave the country?

Yes, we went to Mexico.

Okay, so y'all left the country and y'all went first class.

And, you know, John was saving those miles for something. He was saving them.

He was so. I don't know how they. I don't know what happens when that. When, like, you get your miles stolen.

I mean, I think that Delta would just, like. Or whatever airline, depending on what it is, they usually will. If you file a claim or this, that, and the third, like, will give them back to you. Now, I might be wrong about that. Because these days, who knows what's going on with the airplanes? Because it's getting a little, like. I don't wanna make too light of it, because people have died, right? But, you know, now everybody's getting on the flight and they're paying attention. Like, we used to, like, watch Virgin American. Do they want to Virgin American all the picture you.

You know they do.

They dance and be like, fly away with me.

And they twerking and stuff.

And they was like, put on your seat belt, pull your air mask. And you be like, okay, this is cute. This is cute. But I'm not paying attention. Now, when they do that safety instruction.

You better take notes.

I'm pulling out the little safety instruction card. I'm reading the whole thing from top to bottom. I'm quizzing my neighbor, and I'm like, run, quiz me. How did they say you get the flotation advice?

[Lacey Mosley]

Like, but let me ask you this, though. Do you think that more plane crashes are happening, or do you think the media is just reporting on them more?

[Lex P]

Well, the plane crash that was deadly in D.C. that was the largest amount of casualties in a plane crash that had happened in the past, like, two decades.

[Lacey Mosley]

Oh, my God.

[Lex P]

Yeah. And then. And then it's weirdly coincidental that, you know, Trump had gutted tsa, or not tsa, but also, like, the FAA eight days before this happened. And also, the plane that flipped in Toronto was a Delta flight. And everyone's like, but it was in Toronto. And I'm like, y'all got rocks for brains, bro. It's a Delta flight. Do you think that America, like, the hub is in Georgia, literally? Do you think that American planes don't leave the country? Otherwise, how would you get on an American company plane and go anywhere? Y'all dumb. Like, media literacy is gone. The girls don't read anymore. They see a thick headline and a photo, and they just believe it's fact. Believe it. I learned when I was 10 years old, in fifth grade about false facts, about facts, about sources, about how to check information, how to know if it's a reliable source. I don't. I'll read something on Twitter, and I'll be like, oh, that's interesting. And then I'll go on Google and I'll look it up and see if I can find any legitimate news sources, because news sources that are legit actually will get sued if they don't adjudicate the information that they are providing to the public. It's, like, legally responsible, but they don't care no more. They, like, I get my news from YouTube, right?

They love a good clickbait. They don't care. They get their news from anything. Chad.

The girls aren't reading any. They. I'm, like, open to schools, but at the same time, it's like, they ain't teaching nothing in there no more.

I used to be thinking those TikTok dances at school and the videos, I used to think they were cute. Now I'm like, y'all need to be doing reading, writing, and arithmetic. Yes. Stuck in the classroom.

I'm at auntie age now, so I'm like, if you know that song, you need to know your ABCs. Yeah, I'm definitely. That is definitely me. I don't get it. I don't understand it, but I just try to tell the people to read. People hate reading. Cause you know what it is? They'll click on something, and once they see it's more than one paragraph, they just become uninterested.

They're like, that one meme that's like, I ain't reading all that happy for you. Sorry that happened.

Oh, my God. It'll be something like, if you read this, I will give you a million dollars. They still won't read it?

[Lex P]

No. It shocks me how little people know, but they'll still make conjecture and have opinions. There'll be stuff that I actually know about entertainment or how things work or whatever. And I'll see a bunch of dumb asses under a thread like, well, maybe this happened and that's why this didn't come out. And I'm like, you don't know what you're talking about, so why talk?

I have learned to extremely unplug from a lot of comments and things like that under our posts and stuff like that, because you have to realize we are in our position and doing our job and reporting the things we're supposed to report. So you have to let them people do what they do because that's their moment to shine if, like, Lacey responds or. You know what I mean? So I kind of just have learned to let them congregate on their own. Chab.

And then I want to say the story is about a woman who's faking being pregnant to scam doulas. Yes. And I will give a credit note here also because we do not scam our journalists. Most of the reporting on the story was Done by Sarah Chalevin for CBC News and BBC World News Service, primarily for the podcast the Con Caitlyn's baby. So we gonna learn about Caitlyn and her baby. Her maybe baby.

Maybe baby. So a 26 year old Canadian woman named Kaitlin Braun tricked more than 50 doulas in her country and around the world into helping her for free through labor and delivery of a baby without ever actually being pregnant. Now, I don't know why you would want to do this.

[Lacey Mosley]

And I'm like, what did she get? How do you get money out of this?

[Lex P]

Like, what do you get out of this?

[Lacey Mosley]

Is this just for fun? A hobby?

[Lex P]

What do you do for fun? Oh, I make pottery. Oh, what do you do? Oh, you know, I'm really into knitting. Oh, what are you doing? I trick doulas.

[Lacey Mosley]

How do you trick a doula? Because don't you have to pay the doula? Like I would think the scam would be acting like a doula.

[Lex P]

Right. Or teaching doulas, but not knowing how to doula.

[Lacey Mosley]

Right. I don't, I'm not really understanding her angle here.

[Lex P]

I don't either. Let's see. So what doulas do if you don't know what a doula is? Doulas are birth workers, but they don't offer medical services. They give emotional and educational support to mothers to be. Sometimes they provide physical touch, like massages to help women in labor ease anxiety and pain. Unlike doctors or midwives who can provide medical intervention, doulas are there to comfort and advocate for their clients throughout the birth process. They're kind of like a hired best friend whose entire job is to believe, to address their pain instead of dismissing it. To hear them, to help them and to support their choices no matter what. And I will say, you know, as a black woman, like, black women's mortality rate in pregnancy is sky high. And so if you can't afford a doula, like, or someone to abdicate for you, like get you a white lady in there and have that white lady yell at the nurses when you're in pain. Or you're like, oh, something feels wrong. And she'll be like, something feels wrong.

They hear that?

[Lex P]

Yeah, they hear that.

[Lacey Mosley]

That's that tone. You have that tone down. They hear that tone.

[Lex P]

Cause when I say it, they're gonna be like, oh, that negro just wants more drugs. She's a fiend. She's a college educated crackhead. She's like trying to get high. She's trying to get ah. While on the Baby supply. No, but you get that white woman, she's like, let me see the hospital manager.

[Lacey Mosley]

She needs help. When they hear that, they know it's time.

[Lex P]

Who's the chief of surgery? Get him down here now. Okay. They will hear you. So doulas can attend a birth in person or virtually during COVID lockdowns. It became standard for doulas on social media to offer their phone numbers for free emergency contact. It was the perfect opening for someone with a very specific, very bizarre scam in mind. So, honestly, I don't want to be on Zoom while I'm giving birth.

[Lacey Mosley]

How are you an online doula? This is how I know AI is getting out of control. Because why are you delivering a baby via Zoom?

[Lex P]

I'm over here like. And she's like, you're muted. You're muted.

[Lacey Mosley]

My mic not working. Wi Fi, babe, right? You frozen like this.

[Lex P]

Not you frozen. The baby crowning. You frozen mid contraction. She can't even count the seconds no more.

[Lacey Mosley]

Cause you froze.

[Lex P]

So we froze. I don't know. I think it was like 15 seconds. So we probably had like a minute.

[Lacey Mosley]

Yes. Oh, my goodness. I have never heard of that. Never.

[Lex P]

No, ma'am. Everything can't be online now.

[Lacey Mosley]

Everything cannot be online.

[Lex P]

Like, it's like an online massage. Like what? No. Yeah, now, so take your hand and put it. Yeah. Right there on your shoulder. Now press right there. Oh, yeah. I can tell you tense tell over the computer.

Yeah, yeah. I could tell the way your neck was moving. It's a knot right there, ain't it? Yeah, yeah, yeah. We gonna work it out.

No, no, ma'am. No. So the first reported cases of the scam happened in 2022. The doulas involved usually use pseudonyms and news stories about them. So we will too. In August, doula number one. Samantha was excited to help her first client, Caitlyn. Caitlyn's a scammer, remember? So Caitlyn, a 32 weeks pregnant woman in Brantford, Ontario, Canada, who reached out online. Samantha goes to Caitlin's home, assisting her through labor when she arrived, like, so she goes to her home to assist her through the labor. Right. When she arrived, she saw that Caitlyn was plus sized and had a car seat in the living room and a baby sleeper seat in her bedroom. She had baby clothes and a breast pump. Nothing suspicious yet. So first of all, I'm mad at y'all trying to say that because she was plus size. Cause when she looked I couldn't tell.

[Lacey Mosley]

Because I was about to say why they had to add that in there.

[Lex P]

But I think they had to add that in there because if you aren't plus size and you say you're 32 weeks along, you will be able to tell physically that you aren't. But if you are plus size, it could possibly be a baby. And I can't tell you there's not.

[Lacey Mosley]

I just feel like a pregnant belly and a fat belly just look totally different. Totally different.

[Lex P]

They do, you know what I'm saying? But you know what? People make a lot of assumptions about plus size people in the medical field that are extremely negative and harmful.

[Lacey Mosley]

Right.

[Lex P]

Even healthy plus size people. So this might have been one of those people who made that assumption, you know, that like, oh well, you know, she is plus size. So maybe the baby up in there in the corner or something.

[Lacey Mosley]

And like it's probably in the corner somewhere.

[Lex P]

It's probably in the corner like so it's, you know, don't even, I ain't even worry about that. She got a breast pump, she got all, you know, she got a car.

[Lacey Mosley]

Seat that she's in a car seat. Oh, she's pregnant for sure.

[Lex P]

For sure.

Called the car seat.

[Lex P]

She had a breast pump and a car seat and she had baby clothes. Definitely pregnant. The baby just in the corner chilling. That's all. That's all.

Oh my goodness.

[Lex P]

So a few hours after Samantha arrived, Caitlyn said her water had broken. But they stayed in her apartment with Samantha coaching her through contractions for the next two days.

[Lacey Mosley]

Girl, I know you lying.

[Lex P]

Caitlyn wish.

[Lacey Mosley]

Now Samantha and Caitlyn playing. Cause after two days you should have known something as a professional doula.

[Lex P]

Now listen, she doesn't have to do medical stuff. She's there for vibes and support and massages and abdicacy.

[Lacey Mosley]

But I feel like don't they be rubbing on the belly a little bit and helping out? And.

[Lex P]

I'm telling you.

[Lacey Mosley]

Cause if she would have rubbed that belly, she would have felt, she would.

[Lex P]

Have known there was no one in there. She wasn't gonna feel nothing. Kick. Nothing, nothing.

So method. You might need to give up doing that.

That's what I'm saying. Sometimes. I hate to say this but sometimes people deserve to get scammed. Cause did you even try?

It's giving. Don't look. It's not giving. Doula like I don't know sis, right now I'm judging and I don't like judge.

People are victim. Also, two days of being in fake labor. What was Kaylin doing? She's like. And then, like, you got to remember for 48 hours that you in labor. Like, oh, I'm in labor.

[Lacey Mosley]

How do you. No, that's why I said something ain't right. Two days of acting like you're in labor.

[Lex P]

No, we're were a few. What is that black saying when you short of something?

[Lacey Mosley]

Oh, what they say? A few French fries short of a Happy Meal.

[Lex P]

Yeah, we are, Caitlyn. So Samantha insisted they get to a hospital, even though Caitlyn really, really did not want to go. Doulas aren't supposed to drive their clients, but it was the only option Samantha had since Caitlyn couldn't afford an Uber or taxi. And this was Samantha's first time acting as a doula. Okay, so this was Samantha's first time as a doula. So she took all her training. So. Okay.

[Lacey Mosley]

It was.

[Lex P]

Okay. I'm gonna give her. I'm gonna cut her some slack. It was her first time.

[Lacey Mosley]

Okay, all right. We gonna cut a little bit of slack.

[Lex P]

Okay. Cause before this, she was just dealing with fake bellies, and, you know, she was getting her online certification, and probably during COVID she was like, you know what? I'm gonna become a doula.

[Lacey Mosley]

Yeah, you right.

[Lex P]

So she got on.

[Lacey Mosley]

A lot of people were bored.

[Lex P]

She got on Phoenix University, and she became a doula. So once they got in the car, Caitlyn flipped out. Screaming, sobbing, begging me to leave her and forget she existed. She was so emotional. Samantha had to pull over. So that was Samantha. That was Samantha saying she was begging me, like, to leave and forget about all of this. Once they parked at the hospital, Caitlyn wouldn't get out of the car. They ended up going back to Caitlin's apartment. Samantha went home, and Caitlyn contacted her three days later to take her to the hospital again, since her contractions had return.

[Lacey Mosley]

Returned.

[Lex P]

So was she trying to say it was Braxton Hicks?

[Lacey Mosley]

That could have been. But if you. She said she was in la, girl. Okay.

[Lex P]

She said her water broke. When your water be breaking, like, when.

[Lacey Mosley]

Your water break that baby coming.

[Lex P]

Yeah, that's usually. That's usually a sign that she's supposed to be somewhere.

[Lacey Mosley]

So wait, wait, was. Cause Samantha is the doula, right?

[Lex P]

Yes.

[Lacey Mosley]

Was Samantha there when her water broke?

[Lex P]

Yes. Now, she might have went to the bathroom and said, like, you know, poured a little water out. She might have went into the kitchen and, like, poured a little Dasani on the floor.

[Lacey Mosley]

Yep. On the ground a little bit Cause.

[Lex P]

If I'm wasting water, it's Dasani. And was like, oh, no.

[Lacey Mosley]

Don'T step. Right there.

[Lex P]

Oh, no, that's my. No, that's my birth water. Ah. What is this lady up to?

Oh, my goodness.

[Lex P]

This time they did actually make it into the hospital and saw a doctor who performed an ultrasound. Samantha thought this was a great step and she could finally hand Caitlyn off to actual medical providers. Now, the doula is supposed to be there throughout the birth process, but I think Samantha was fed up with Caitlyn's ass. She was like, I'm just gonna give you to the hospital.

[Lacey Mosley]

Right?

[Lex P]

And so they do the ultrasound, right? But the doctor stopped mid ultrasound and announced that there was no baby in Caitlin's uterus. All that was in there was that whopper was an iud. No, not a whopper.

[Lacey Mosley]

My bad, my bad, my bad.

[Lex P]

Can't have it your way. All that was in there was an iud. So she had an iud. And if you don't know what an IUD is, that is like a form of birth control that looks like a little T and you put. They put it in your couch, and then it's got, like, stuff in it that makes the baby not happen. And that was so scientific. Y'all like that, right?

[Lacey Mosley]

That was a good explanation.

[Lex P]

I'm Bill Nye now. Bill Nye, the science scam. So not only is she not pregnant, she has active birth control in her body.

[Lacey Mosley]

Do you know how much you have to just not care to go ahead and be like, oh, come back and bring me to the hospital? And then to go along with the ultrasound?

[Lex P]

Like, why would you even go along? You know, it ain't no baby in there.

[Lacey Mosley]

I can't.

[Lex P]

You know for a fact there's no baby is in residence. This is a vacant uterus.

[Lacey Mosley]

Very extreme. Not only is it vacant, but there's an IUD in there.

[Lex P]

Like, literally, we're not even accepting applications for pregnancy.

[Lacey Mosley]

What is going on? Oh, my goodness.

[Lex P]

So Samantha drove Caitlyn home, which I wouldn't have done. I'm sorry, Caitlyn. I'm leaving you at the hospital like, something's going on. See how far that wheelchair that they make you leave in will take you. But I'm not driving you home. Agreed? No. So Samantha drove Caitlyn home, unsure if this had just been a weird lie the whole time or if it had been a hysterical pregnancy. And Caitlyn really believed she had been pregnant and in labor, because those do happen. And so you know what Samantha Kudos to you for being a. A kind soul and being like, you know what? Maybe it was a hysterical pregnancy. I'm just gonna get this lady home. Me personally, when she. I've been in your house for two days. He who ing and hiding and massaging you.

No.

[Lex P]

And not only do you not have a baby, but you have a baby blocker. No.

[Lacey Mosley]

The nerve.

[Lex P]

No. The unmitigated gall.

[Lacey Mosley]

That's why I said I can't even believe the hysterical pregnancy part. Because you know that you can't get pregnant.

[Lex P]

Yeah, that's the part that I'm like. But I'm not a scientist though.

Cause also if she has the IUD in, and even if she thought she was pregnant, then she would have went to the doctor, Hey, I have an IUD in and I think I'm pregnant. What's going on?

Right? But I mean, we're talking about people with sense, so Kaylyn clearly don't got no sense.

Caitlyn, a queer sexual assault survivor who had been shunned by her family. So now she's adding things to her repertoire. This time she's doing it via phone, not at her home. She's supposedly in the hospital with intensifying contractions, about to experience a 32 week stillbirth. Rachel was on the phone with her all day Saturday. Everything sounded super real. She could hear car sounds as Caitlin rode to the hospital. She could hear a Heartbeat monitor. Once she was there, Nora could hear Caitlyn throwing up. Over the phone. Caitlyn told them she touched the baby as it was coming out and said, it's the most beautiful thing I've ever done.

Okay, I've had enough.

[Lex P]

Shortly after the stillbirth, Caitlyn told them her placenta was not coming out. She said she needed a hysterectomy when the bleeding wouldn't stop. Over the phone, Rachel and Nora helped her process losing her uterus to this assaulter's dead baby just days before her 24th birthday. So now she done said it was also about to be her birthday. And I wanna know how she was doing these car sounds. Did she have like YouTube?

[Lacey Mosley]

That's what I'm saying. I know YouTube got it in the background.

[Lex P]

Yeah, that's like an ambient thing. Like ambient cars riding sounds. And you can definitely pull up a heart monitor on YouTube.

I mean, she ain't got nothing like this. Sounds like a Tyler Perry movie, baby. Cause the birthday, the assault, like, she done went deep in her Tyler Perry bag with this one.

[Lex P]

Yeah, she's clearly watched a few of his movies and was like, hold my beer, Tyler. I'll do you one better.

So over the coming days, Caitlyn had told the. You know what just made me think.

That scene in that Dylan Berry movie. I think it's a family reunion where she was like. And she put makeup on me. She put me in the tub. Her eyes were like wandering around. I know, good sis thought she was acting down, but it was, oh, you.

Know, you know that she thought, oh, this is my Oscar moment. Sweetheart, I'm gonna hold your hand when I say this.

[Lex P]

And Lynn Whit I love so much coming at me and like, my mother was a dad. My mother was a whore. She sold me for $10 and a fix.

Oh, you gotta love Lynn Whitfield. Woo. She plays that evil mother role down.

She's so good at it and just so like makeup, hair, face, like beautiful evil. Love it. If you know, you know, shout out to them. So over the coming days, Caitlin told these two, Doula 2 and 3 that she was being transferred to a second hospital, then a third. So she playing them car sounds on YouTube a lot. Where she received two devastating diagnoses, a clotting disorder and late stage pelvic can.

Oh, Lord, she done added the chemo in there.

[Lex P]

Now she got cancer. And I'm just like, these are what Are you doing? She said her organs were failing and she might live a year with treatment and three months without. Nora cried on the phone with Caitlyn as she decided to stop care. So she. So Caitlin also decided within these phone calls that she was not going to go to chemo. This is just happening so fast.

[Lacey Mosley]

This is a lot.

[Lex P]

And I feel bad for these doulas. Like, they crying on the phone, like they're having an emotional rollercoaster with this woman who's like over here on her Beats machine. Like, just playing. Like, why is she in the studio? Like, she's in the studio.

[Lacey Mosley]

Heartbeat monitor.

[Lex P]

Heartbeat monitor. Ambulance heartbeat monitor. Like, what is happening?

[Lacey Mosley]

Oh, my God. Okay.

[Lex P]

So Rachel helped her write a will.

[Lacey Mosley]

[Lex P]

These doulas cared and were invested in helping Caitlyn. Almost a week into this ordeal, Rachel's girlfriend at the time finally pointed out that there was no tangible proof that any of this was happening.

[Lacey Mosley]

Somebody with some scenes.

[Lex P]

Cause they on the phone. So Rachel and Nora reverse image searched some of the pictures Caitlyn had sent them, including pieces of a tumor and a picture of a stillborn baby. That's horrible. And found that they were the first Google image research, like results for the term tumor and stillborn.

[Lacey Mosley]

Now, Caitlin, you could have scrolled a little bit.

[Lex P]

You could have gone to like the sixth, though.

[Lacey Mosley]

Okay, you gotta go to the sixth page, make somebody's the first one.

[Lex P]

Work for it. At least you went to the first one. Caitlyn. The hospital where Caitlyn claimed to be receiving end of life care had no record of her ever being admitted. And she was getting like, she went from hospital to hospice so fast, child. So fast. She on the phone like, I see. I see my dead grandmother. The angels and mother knew.

[Lacey Mosley]

She's driving herself to all these places in the meantime.

[Lex P]

I don't. She in the Uber. I don't know what's going on. So Rachel called the Brantford police and asked them to send a crisis team to Caitlyn's address. The police called back a couple of hours later and said, yep, we found her in her living room at home. She's fine.

[Lacey Mosley]

Oh, my God.

[Lex P]

Now this alerts me to the race of Caitlyn because we do not call wellness checks on black people. Cause if you like, the police will go to our homes and be like, they were fine. They not now.

[Lacey Mosley]

Right.

[Lex P]

In February 2023, Ashley was four days into helping Caitlyn virtually and in person deliver a 24 week stillbirth when she started questioning it. So she was four days in. Right now she's been doing 32 weeks. That was her thing. First time she said it was an alive baby. Now she was like, okay, alive is too risky. I'mma say that they're not. And then this one's 24 weeks. So then she's like, let me mix.

Yeah. Then if this is a seasoned doula, they gonna think the baby in the corner for real. So Caitlyn said her water broke, but it seemed to Ashley like she had just peed in front of her.

[Lacey Mosley]

You know how dedicated you have to be to piss on yourself.

Okay. I will say this reminds me of. If you haven't watched Scamanda on Hulu, There's a point in Scamanda, it's about this woman who faked having cancer and like raised all this money in the church. But there's a point in Scamanda where Amanda, that's her name, she is at a church service and she's like, oh, I'm feeling lightheaded. I need some water. She gets up and she walks, like, down the church aisle, and she faints. Fake faints and pees on herself.

Peeing on yourself to scam is crazy.

So in the show, basically, it's about an Australian woman who scammed people into thinking that she had cancer and started this multimillion dollar company selling recipes that healed her from cancer. But in one of the scenes, she faked having a seizure. Like, dropped all this food everywhere in front of, like, a whole bunch of people and, like, faked having a seizure. The dedication is crazy to me.

[Lex P]

It's so unserious to have a fake seizure. It's very unserious, like, to pee on yourself. I'm not peeing on myself.

[Lacey Mosley]

I'm not peeing on myself to prove a point.

But you know what? I do admire the dedication.

So sorry about that. That's what I should have warned y'all about. I didn't know I was gonna say that, though. So. A friend remembered seeing a Facebook post about a client who had done something similar. Ashley looked it up, and the post was about Caitlyn. Ashley left and never contacted Caitlin again. The next day, she heard that Caitlin had reached out to another doula in the area. More and more people were joining the doula Facebook group daily. Regardless of people calling the police and giving statements, nothing was changing. So Kaylyn Was like, I'm gonna get me a doula in my house. That's what I'm gonna do.

[Lacey Mosley]

Caitlyn, why is she doing this?

[Lex P]

I don't know.

[Lacey Mosley]

She's like, somebody is gonna come deliver this imaginary baby.

[Lex P]

She's not making any money. She peeing on her floors, wasting people's time. Like, I imagine when Ashley left, she did have to, like, wipe the pee up and be like, ah, well, lost another one. She's gotta go back to the drawing board. And now people are joining a Facebook that's like, y'all stay away from Caitlin.

[Lacey Mosley]

Oh, my God.

[Lex P]

It's called don't look. It's like Caitlyn's face with that picture, with that picture with the eyes. Oh, my God. When y'all see this picture with these eyes, don't look at it too long, y'all. Cause I don't want y'all to be cursed for seven years, okay?

[Lacey Mosley]

Oh, God. I am trying.

[Lex P]

I feel like they could make a movie about that. Like the Mummy. It's like you opening up the Pandora's box when you look at that photo, I'm like, I might have to put, like, a photo over it, like a warning. I don't want y'all to get cursed. So some consequences. According to the members of the Facebook group, Doulas who have been victimized ranged from Brantford, Canada, to Florida. So she had to start getting out of Canada because the girls in Canada were starting their Facebook group, and they were like, eh? Did you go to Caitlyn's house? And there was no baby? Eh? Like, yeah, she just took a pee in front of me. Like, it was terrible. Canadian accent.

[Lacey Mosley]

I was like, is this an Irish lady that lives in Canada?

[Lex P]

I did live in Ireland for a little while this year. That's.

[Lacey Mosley]

Oh, it came out. Yeah, that's what it is.

[Lex P]

Oh. Oh. I was like, oh, she's not having a baby. Yeah, it is going Irish. I can't. I can't help it. Can't help it. Okay. So. So she had moved on. She was like, I gotta go to Florida. A woman in the UK who worked at a funeral home had agreed to send Caitlyn money. Traumatic experiences. Okay. So now she getting some coin. Cause I'm like, where? Like, are you getting anything out of this other than attention? One doula who believed she had helped Caitlyn through a traumatic birth experience even got a tattoo to commemorate it, the word surrender with a blue butterfly above her elbow. So Caitlyn traumatized this doula so much that she had to go to her tattoo artist and was like, give me a butterfly and the word surrender.

[Lacey Mosley]

Surrender. Oh, Lord have mercy.

[Lex P]

Now. She was right about surrender. But it wasn't surrender to life. It was surrender to the authorities. Caitlyn, period.

[Lacey Mosley]

You may be in jail now.

[Lex P]

Get yourself up and go to prison. Okay. Postpartum prison. Cause, ma'am, so many doulas offered their services for free because it was a stillbirth. Others did charge for their services, and Caitlyn would disappear and not pay. So she would get the services and have her fun, and then she would not pay them.

[Lacey Mosley]

But how would she get services with no baby?

[Lex P]

Okay, that's a good question.

[Lacey Mosley]

Or maybe it was, like, maybe like an aftercare thing. So maybe she said she delivered the baby already or something.

[Lex P]

I don't. I'm not too clear.

[Lacey Mosley]

But she was running out on a tab.

[Lex P]

Apparently they were doing the doula support. And, I mean, we did say, like, doulas are not, like, medical professionals. They are kind of like a friend. Maybe Caitlin just needed a friend. She was like, doulas sounding like, are my besties.

[Lacey Mosley]

I feel like there's such an easier way to make friends.

[Lex P]

Yeah. Like, there's apps, you know, like, there's meetup. You know, you could go join a kickball league.

[Lacey Mosley]

Try saying hello to someone.

[Lex P]

Yeah. Or, you know, I mean, there's so many adult things you can do. Go to a bar and do trivia night. I don't know.

[Lacey Mosley]

Yes, something. I think that's something.

[Lex P]

I don't think tricking doulas into your house is the only way to make friends. And clearly they're not gonna stick around. These are, like, professionals.

[Lacey Mosley]

Right?

[Lex P]

But she was like. But they watched Love after lockup with me while I was in labor for a week, so got him.

[Lacey Mosley]

Oh, my God.

[Lex P]

And they have to be nice to me. Cause they working. I can talk about whatever I want ad nauseam. Cause they working, and they give me a massage.

[Lacey Mosley]

And then she gotta remember to do her contractions. Her noises.

[Lex P]

Yeah, she gotta remember to do her labor. Like, they are watching.

[Lacey Mosley]

Are getting too good. And they like, how are you feeling? Oh, I mean.

[Lex P]

Oh, all right. They watching the white lotus, like, ooh.

[Lacey Mosley]

What'S going on here?

[Lex P]

Oh, right, right. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. But also, Belinda's back. Like, you know, like, no, no, this is a lot.

[Lacey Mosley]

This is a lot.

[Lex P]

This is a lot. At least she scammed a little bit of money. I don't want her. I don't want her to take anything from anybody.

[Lacey Mosley]

Yeah, you can't leave empty handed. You done peed on yourself.

[Lex P]

Yeah, I just wanted to know the, like, if you were getting something out of this other than wasting people's time. So as people who were victims of this shared the details of their stories with each other. The victims wanted restitution for money and emotional har. And I absolutely think they need restitution, at least for emotional harm. The people that she skirted out on the checks, they need their refunds or their money paid. And the emotional harm, like she was telling outlandish stories. She's talking about very serious things that happen to women in the world. She done like, you know, traumatized one doula so much, they went out and got a tattoo.

[Lacey Mosley]

And that's what I'm saying because you don't know if this woman has been through some trauma herself, had been sa'd or something. So she's just like, I feel.

[Lex P]

You feel pregnancy not go all the way to term. You don't know who you're triggering like. And you don't know why they got into this line of work. Cause a lot of people get into lines of work that kind of help heal the own situations that they've been through. Or maybe they have experience in it and they wanna push that forward. Not to say that that's why everybody gets into it, but you never know. You know, a lot of comedians, we do what we do because, like, sometimes we be sad and it's nice to laugh, you know?

[Lacey Mosley]

Right. Mm.

[Lex P]

So you never know. I just think that's so harmful.

[Lacey Mosley]

It very much is. Like I said, it could have triggered somebody who's been through the same thing. So that's kind of like, okay, girl. All right.

[Lex P]

Some doulas did call the police to report what was happening. But other than stealing their services under false pretenses and emotional manipulation, it wasn't enough to charge Caitlyn with an actual crime. AKA the police were like, we don't care about this.

[Lacey Mosley]

I'm weak.

[Lex P]

They're like, we what you want us to do? For real? Like make her stop?

[Lacey Mosley]

What do you mean? No, she's, she's harmless.

[Lex P]

No, she's on the loose. Let her be on the loose. Little fun Whipper snapper.

[Lacey Mosley]

Oh my goodness.

[Lex P]

She was still out there roping people in over and over and over again. Cuz remember, like, she did this to 50 people.

[Lacey Mosley]

That's crazy.

[Lex P]

In March of 2023, Canadian doulas started finding each other on Tik Tok, warning fellow birth workers that a serial pregnancy faker was on the loose. So this is a tik Tok video.

[Lacey Mosley]

So over the course of a Wednesday to Sunday, there were two doulas.

[Lex P]

Wednesday to Sunday, 2D, both in person.

[Lacey Mosley]

And virtually I spoke to this person non stop during that whole time when I wasn't with her. And even when the other doula was with her, this person was not and has not ever been pregnant or experienced a loss.

[Lex P]

So basically, Amy was on tick tock and she said, kayla reached out to me. She wanted to talk to me 24 7. She was like, okay, girl, I can't do. I gotta sleep. And she was like, do you. I'm having a ba. I'm having a baby, so I feel like you should just be awake all day long. And then she also had a backup doula come to her house. And then she was still like, I still want to be on the phone with you. Amy, why the backup doula here? So she was like, I got two friends now I'm at brunch.

[Lacey Mosley]

She knew she hit the jackpot.

[Lex P]

They're like, kalen, why you pulling out them mimosas? You having a baby? She was like, oh, well, it's already here. She's like, y'all want some waffles? Let's dish.

[Lacey Mosley]

Oh, my God.

[Lex P]

So they started, you know, making a TikTok community. Soon, Caitlyn's identity came out. She had been dming doulas on Instagram with different versions of a catastrophic scenario. In many cases, the details were the same as the lived experiences of the doulas themselves, and all shared a common plot. Seemingly scared and in crisis, Caitlyn needed them to help her through a traumatic ordeal. So remember we were talking about how, like, some people might enter the doula business because they've experienced these things themselves. So she was latching onto these people's trauma and lying. That same month, Caitlyn was finally arrested and charged with multiple counts of fraud, criminal harassment, false false pretenses, incident acts, and sexual assault for enlisting dozens of doulas.

[Lacey Mosley]

Maybe they felt that way because there's certain things I'm guessing that you have to do as a doula as far as touching the body and doing certain things. So maybe they felt like. You know what I'm saying?

[Lex P]

Yeah. And this wasn't medically necessary.

[Lacey Mosley]

Right, Right.

[Lex P]

So we're doing this under false pretenses. You're right. Yeah.

[Lacey Mosley]

So it could have been something way deeper that she was getting out of this.

[Lex P]

Ew.

[Lacey Mosley]

Okay.

[Lex P]

Ew, Caitlin, I already hated your weird ass. But, like, ew, it got worse.

[Lacey Mosley]

Yes. Absolutely.

[Lex P]

Feeding off of their compassion and manipulating their professional code. Yeah. This is weird as hell and disgusting. Caitlyn, you're gross. Like, put her under the jail. Don't let her out. Don't let her near no hospitals or no. Nobody in the pregnancy medical field. Like, girl. What?

[Lacey Mosley]

And that's what I was thinking. It's crazy to me that the cops weren't. I feel like, again, because. Not if she's going to the hospital. Like, she's wasting resources. Yeah. Resources for people who actually need it. Like, that's very serious.

[Lex P]

And you're right. Like, if these people are, like, massaging her or she's like, having contractions and stuff, it's like that stuff would be necessary and warranted if you were giving birth, but you're just like a lady, like, tricking people to touch you.

[Lacey Mosley]

Yes. Oh, yes. Yes.

[Lex P]

Gross. In 2024, she pleaded guilty to 21 of the 52 charges against. @ the sentencing hearing, she said, what I did was ultimately very wrong. And I feel a strong sense of shame when I think of the hurt and pain that I've caused. I never wanted to be the person I became. But she didn't explain why she did all this. Also, like, I'm sorry. You did this 50 times.

[Lacey Mosley]

You wasn't sorry. You just saw where you got caught. It's so weird.

[Lex P]

Ew.

[Lacey Mosley]

So did she go to jail or.

[Lex P]

She was at sentencing. She. No, she. She tried to apologize and say that she. Oh, my God, I'm so ashamed. No, you're not. Weirdo. So why did she do this? When examined by the court ordered clinician? Because clearly she needed one. Braun. Caitlyn. She shared that she'd been previously diagnosed with bipolar disorder and anxiety and depressive disorders. She'd also claimed to have been diagnosed with factitious disorder. Factitious disorder is a serious mental illness where people falsify or psychological, like, symptoms. 1. I want to say that we don't, you know, mental health. You know, we don't shame anybody with any kind of mental health. So I got, you know, anxiety and depression. So I'm not shaming nobody, but there's a lot of people who have bipolar, anxiety, depression, and they're not tricking doulas into coming to their house.

[Lacey Mosley]

I don't. I've been extremely depressed. I've been extremely sad. Never peed on myself to get a point across in front of somebody. No, it's levels. It's levels now.

[Lex P]

I've never done that. Like, I've been intensely sad. Like, can't get out of bed. But I was never like, let me trick a doula into coming to my house.

[Lacey Mosley]

I don't think that's the answer. No, I don't think that's the answer.

[Lex P]

So unlike most mental illnesses, this one involves deliberateness and often tremendous planning. Many patients are also deaf improvisers spinning up convincing details on the fly. According to her medical records, from the ages of 17 to 24, she went to the hospital more than 170 times.

[Lacey Mosley]

Oh, my God.

[Lex P]

The judge believed most of those visits were probably based on lies. Some have suggested Caitlin is a bird and got some sexual gratification from harassing all these doulas. You said it, Lex. You said it.

[Lacey Mosley]

I knew it.

[Lex P]

That's why they put that charge in.

[Lacey Mosley]

She's horny. She's horny. Lock her up.

[Lex P]

But that's also about power. There's something weird like, that's like. Cause it's not. You could just go on the apps if you horny, somebody will do your weird eyebrow. Scary eyed ass.

[Lacey Mosley]

But that's what I'm saying. It's not about just. It's not about like her. She gets off in a different type of way.

[Lex P]

It's like power and tricking people. It's disgusting. So her Pinterest, which is still public, includes newborn and maternity photo shoot ideas as well as teen sibling photos. For some reason, Caitlyn was a practicing social worker at the time of her crime. So that comment was Right. Right. And her license was temporarily suspended after her arrest. It should not be temporarily parmanente. Kaiser Permanente suspended.

[Lacey Mosley]

Yes. Yes.

[Lex P]

What the hell you talking about? Some temporarily.

[Lacey Mosley]

Oh my God.

[Lex P]

Not only should she not be socializing, she damn sure shouldn't be working.

[Lacey Mosley]

No, she should not be at all.

[Lex P]

So after almost a year in custody, she was ordered to serve two years under house arrest and another three years of probation. I don't think it should have been no house arrest because I feel like she could have still tried to get some doulas to come to the house.

[Lacey Mosley]

That's where the damage was done. Exactly.

[Lex P]

No, she needs to go to the big house.

[Lacey Mosley]

Yeah, yeah.

[Lex P]

Arrest her and put her in the big house.

[Lacey Mosley]

And then she needs some like mandatory like counseling.

[Lex P]

Yes.

[Lacey Mosley]

Or something.

[Lex P]

Cause she need to figure out what's up with that because. I'm sorry. 50. 50.

[Lacey Mosley]

That's a lot. And that's a lot of time coming up with stories and all these lies on top of lies. Like I, like I said, we don't judge, you know, people with the mental disorders but sometimes I be like, come on now.

[Lex P]

Now this is the kicker, Lex. By the April, she was back in jail for similar offenses.

[Lacey Mosley]

What?

[Lex P]

In January 2025, she pled guilty to four new charges.

[Lacey Mosley]

This was recent.

[Lex P]

Recent as hell.

[Lacey Mosley]

So what did she do that was similar?

[Lex P]

She was contacting them damn doulas again.

[Lacey Mosley]

She is addicted to doulas.

[Lex P]

She a doula demon. That's what this episode needs to be called. The doula Demon.

[Lacey Mosley]

The doula Demon. I have never heard of something so crazy. Like, you know, you hear about people getting out of jail, they got caught with drugs and they're addicted to drugs, so they get caught with drugs again or.

[Lex P]

Right. Cause they needed rehab, they didn't need jail.

[Lacey Mosley]

Right, right. That's why I said she needs to go to counseling.

[Lex P]

She need more than counseling. She might need to get them socks with the little white stuff on the bottom. Yeah.

[Lacey Mosley]

A little straight jacket.

[Lex P]

Yeah, Just for a little bit.

She couldn't wait to get out and contact a doula.

[Lex P]

She couldn't wait. She was thinking about it the whole.

[Lacey Mosley]

Time she was in prison.

[Lex P]

She was probably in prison when they came us some computer time, like lining.

It up, finding the doulas.

[Lex P]

Literally. She's like, I just made it to six weeks. She know what her, where her release date is? She was getting her free call.

[Lacey Mosley]

You have a collect call from. Hi, my name is Caitlyn. I need a doula. Can you please answer my call? No. Oh, my goodness. This is insane.

[Lex P]

I hate this woman. I haven't hated a scammer this much in a while. Like, I, I, I, I don't like them ever. Unless they're like punching up, you know, but this disgusts me. Like, this is, I'm like kind of like low key, sick to my stomach.

[Lacey Mosley]

I think we can. Not that we understand scammers, but when we hear a story, it's money is the motivation. You know, we can be like, okay, they did this cause they wanted the money.

[Lex P]

They wanted money.

[Lacey Mosley]

But for this?

[Lex P]

Yeah. This is also harming a community of people who are actually enlisting themselves to help. Like, that's the whole point of being a doula is to help. And so you're gonna violate the helpers. Like, bro, yeah, lock her up. Honestly, the Facebook doula group needs to just go ahead and make one of those meetups and they contact Caitlyn and be like, I would love to be your doula. And then all y'all just show up and beat her ass.

She needs to be tarred and feathered.

[Lex P]

Like, this is One of those where y'all gotta have an angry mob.

Yes. But you know what? I really do. I hope what happens is when this episode drops, that doulas that are tuned in and are listening, they take her picture, and it should be posted in every single doula group worldwide.
