You don't go live all the time on Scoop city, but you go live when you got news like this. James Palmer here with you the Athletics senior NFL insider, Diane Rossini, Matt Schneidman who covers the Green Bay Packers. He's going to be a busy man for the next, I don't know how long. I think he's going to be canceling some trips, going to be changing all of his plans and I'm not sure John, if you're wearing black in morning due to Michael Parsons departure, we can get into that. But guys, we're here. John covers the covers the Dallas Cowboys. So we have everybody here covering this from every single angle and and Diana, I want to start off with you. We all love numbers in this world. Give us some numbers, give us where things stand with Micah Parsons and then we'll get into how this thing went down. But how much heavier are these pockets for Mike?
Diana Rossini
Yeah, so. So the trade is, is actually official. The Dallas Cowboys put it out and they traded with the Green Bay packers for two first round picks including Kenny Clark as well who is now headed to be a Dallas Cowboy, which I, Matt, I think you'll agree with the, with me on this. That's just news in itself. Knowing the importance of Kenny on that team and his leadership and what he brings and the level of play and we'll get into that in a little bit. And you know, James, this goes back almost a month. It was August 1st. We talked about it here on the show that we said that we reported that Micah Parsons was about to do something very drastic to let Gary Jones know he didn't want to be a Dallas Cowboy. And hours later, he posted on Twitter, pretty much, yeah, I don't want to be here anymore. And I think there were a lot of people around the league, even up to today, guys, even today. I know all four of us were talking to other GMs, had coaches, agents, trying to get a gauge of what's going on. And it was so hard to find people in the NFL who actually believed that Micah Parsons was going to get traded. Obviously, those people weren't with Green Bay or with the Dallas Cowboys. Right. It just the understanding of who Micah is, what he brings. It just didn't make a lot of sense to organizations in football to. To look at Jerry and go, why would you get rid of a player this young and this talented? And then here we are on Thursday night, and they do it. And it's official now. And I think this was one of the more shocking trades that we've seen in a long time, guys.
James Palmer
Yeah, it's wild. John, you cover this team brilliantly. Diana mentioned it. People around the league never thought this was going to happen. When did you finally think, you know what? I may have seen Micah Parsons final days here in Dallas.
John
Oh, not until he fired off his tweet saying, thank you, Dallas, just now. I mean, never. And I'll tell you why. I mean, it's. There's. Everybody knows the routine here. Like, the contract drags out, when's this player gonna get paid? And they all get paid. They alter. Gary Jones doesn't let superstars leave. Not in their prime. The closest thing you could have to this is when they let DeMarcus Ware go. But DeMarcus Ware was not in the prime of his career. Yeah, they didn't think that he was gonna, you know, do what obviously he did in Denver, or they probably wouldn't have let him go. Micah Parsons is. Is. Is a guy that fits perfectly with Jerry Jones. And so whatever you think of his body language or how he's carried himself or anything like that, I always thought that this thing was going to get worked out. I never believed that Jerry Jones would trade him. And frankly, that's because I don't believe Jerry Jones is the gambler anymore. And so there's a part of me that wonders Is he watching his Netflix clips and going, you know what, I need to do something bold. I haven't done something bold in a long time. I mean, literally, his head coaching hires, the moves that they make, they aren't bold moves. They aren't 90s cowboys bold moves. And so this deal, I don't need to talk about anybody else because this is a deal that doesn't get made if Jerry Jones isn't adamant that it gets made. The part that surprises me most, and there are a lot of surprising aspects of this, but like there has been no bigger thorn in the side of the Cowboys than the Packers. The best teams that they've had over the last 15 years, without question, are 2014, 2016, 2023, without question. The packers ended all of those seasons, not two, not one, all of them. And so for him to send his best player to the Green Bay packers is wild to me. And I mean, hey, we all thought that they would get more than just two ones and Kenny Clark and those are going to be two ones. They're going to be very late in the first round. Those two ones could end up being Taco Charlton and Mozzie Smith.
Matt Schneidman
There's.
James Palmer
Let's go.
John
There's no guarantee that those first John. There's no guarantee that those first are going to be CD Lamb. There's no guarantee that those first are going to be another Micah Parsons. With all that being said, though, I will also add, I don't think Dallas was the best place for Micah Parsons. I think Green Bay will be a good fit for him. I don't know if the spotlight of the Cowboys and everything was the best thing for Micah Parsons. And so I have plenty of thoughts on this. So I'll just, I'll stop talking.
James Palmer
Yeah, we're getting back to that, John. We're going to get back to that for sure. Dinah, do you. You want to jump in real quick before we get to Matt?
Diana Rossini
I, I want to just kind of lay out how we got here, but I do want to get to Matt. Only knowing that the Matt you're so plugged into Green Bay, you talk to so many people there players and the staff here just did. Did you see this coming?
Matt Schneidman
I think the sen was that. And look, I've talked to you plenty in the last couple days and the sense was that if Micah became available that Green Bay was going to be a big player. If you think about the Green Bay packers, they're not synonymous with earth shattering moves. Every time a trade deadline comes around, it's packers are in the mix. Packers are in the mix, but the triggers never really pulled Brian Guta Kunst. I forget when exactly he said this, but it was probably earlier this off season when he basically said, you know, moves like this one. He didn't say Mike Barson specifically, but we asked him about, you know, trading for an edge rusher. I think we were thinking Miles Garrett, Max Crosby at the time he said that's not really what the packers do. The last time we did something like that was Brett Favre. And you know, Reggie White obviously is, is a completely different story. Yeah, him and Micah have some, some similarities, but I am surprised a little bit only that they pulled the trigger. But some important context behind this is that on the eve of the 2018 season, I was actually covering the Raiders. At the time the packers finished runner up to the Chicago Bears to trade for Khalil Mack. They were almost all in. I, I would say all in would be getting him, but that was Brian Guda Koon's first year as general manager. In 2018, he, he showed a willingness to take out his stealth bomber driver and take a swing for an edge rusher in the prime of his career. Seven years later, with his job potentially on the line this season as new team president Ed Policy takes over. I'm not saying that's why he made this move. Well, it maybe played a part. I wouldn't be shocked if it did. He took out his, his demarini again and went for the fences. So I'm writing a column right now. It'll be up on the Athletic at some point today about how this, I think elevates the packers into legit super bowl contenders. Just a couple more things I'll add. Brian guda koons literally 26 hours ago in a press conference and I want to read this quote said he was asked about if you're one player away, Brian Guda Koons has, you know, famously said around here you're never just one player away. He was asked a player like Micah Parsons, since he wouldn't address him specifically, could that kind of player be the one guy to take you over the top? And he said, I never believe that good players make impacts. So anytime there's players of that caliber that you can acquire, you're trying to. But this is the ultimate game. Exactly. So look, the packers made one big time major coaching move. Major locally, at least. They fired their defensive line coach last year. Brian Gude Koons has said publicly they were far too inconsistent rushing the passer. Rashawn Gary has no help to Free himself up from double teams. So I think he's gonna have, you know, a lot more one on ones this year. It was probably the weakest part of their team, their pass rush. Sure, it gets a little weaker without Kenny Clark, a three time Pro Bowler at defensive tackle, but I, I really do think addressing the weakest part of your team like this elevates the packers to the elite of the NFC, which is what they needed to do. They went 06 against the Eagles, Vikings and Lions last year. This, this was a must move if you want to close that gap.
James Palmer
I think, certainly.
Diana Rossini
Do you think that we are going to look back at this and forever view this trade and this move made by Jerry because of the way the negotiation went down? Because we both have been reporting how sour that relationship got after it came out. Really? I mean, this was obviously something Micah felt, his agent felt because he negotiated with Micah without his agent. Do you truly believe that that was at the center of all this? Or were there other things going on with Micah and the Dallas Cowboys that may wind up coming out? And I know there's probably some stuff you can't report, but just from covering this team so much.
John
Oh, I got a conspiracy theory for you.
Matt Schneidman
Oh, I like, let's go.
John
How about that was not even really a real offer. How about that is just. You did that so that you can say to everybody, I made that attempt. But did you really make that attempt in, in the year of 2025? Did you really think you were going to get a deal done for a mega superstar with that type of level without the agent being involved? Like I thought that back in the, when it happened back in March, because we, he, we talked to Jerry right after that it happened and the owner is meeting in Florida and, and that's when he talked about how he didn't know the agent's name. It's like, come on, Jerry, we know you know who David Mulligetta is. Yeah. I mean, he has other players on the team that are represented by David Mulligetta, but obviously even if he didn't, he would know who he was. And so now I look back and I'm like, did you really think that that was going to be getting a deal done? But now you can sit there and say after that happens, I tried to make him an offer and we agreed to something and it was going to make him the highest paid player and it was however many million guaranteed. And, and you can say it and you can believe it, but there was really no deal until an agent was involved. So it makes me totally look back at that and say maybe that was his play all along, that maybe he really didn't want to sign Micah Parsons. Maybe he really did want to move on from him. It makes no sense to wait this long. I mean, did he really think that somebody was going to give in and then all of a sudden he was going to get a deal on him? You look at that deal, if those, if those numbers that are being put out there right now, 47, $48 million a year. I don't think the Cowboys were going to pay that.
James Palmer
No, I don't think the Cowboys were going to pay it. I think I know it for a fact. I think you do too, that they were never going to pay that. John. But you mentioned something that I find interesting, but every other owner or every other acting general manager that maybe was in that situation probably wouldn't think that a handshake deal is something that would hold and you would hold firm that that's, you know, the stance you're going to take, that handshake matters enough to say it equates a deal. Do you think Jerry, though, the old school Jerry and the way he's done business, truly, if a deal did happen in that, in that manner, he really did stick to his guns and say that that's where it should have been. Is that speaking out of turn or do you think he could truly think that way?
John
I, I'm sure, I mean, anybody can think anything. So yeah, I'm sure there's a part of his brain that might have thought that, but I just can't get past 82 year old billion dollar owner, you know, one of the most successful businessmen in the history of sports thinking that, oh, I'm gonna go toe to toe with a 26 year old and whatever he says, we're gonna go on that we're not gonna allow him. I mean, to be honest with you, that's like, that's like Jerry going to court for a lawsuit or something business related and not having an attorney and just saying, I'm just gonna, I'm just gonna settle this myself. He would never do that. You know, and as successful and as in who he is, he would never do something like that. So I just, I will never believe that that was the, the, you know, honestly, I would buy more into. They were annoyed by him lying on that training table during that preseason game. His body language throughout all this at the training camp practices, him showing up to that preseason game eating nachos. We, I don't Know where he even got those from? It makes no sense.
James Palmer
I think they're stadium Joes. I think those were stadium chose. John. I think he maybe went to the concourse and snag those up.
John
Where we were standing when we saw him is where he came from outside. So I think he might have picked him up at 7:11 and just brought them in as he was walking 7:11 nachos. I don't even think the concession stands were open at that point. That was almost three hours before the game. So I do think that there are little things along the lines that probably got to a level. But again, we're talking about the Dallas Cowboys. They're used to putting up with those type of things. They. Honestly, I always felt Jerry loved that type of stuff. He loved those players like that. He's closest to this day with players that carried themselves that way when they played for the Dallas Cowboys. And. And so I thought ultimately he'd see past it and they get a deal done. But, yeah, no, I'm stunned. I'm also stunned by that. That picture from DFW airport the other day of Mike, like, man, they got us with that one saying, oh, it's for that second opinion on the back also, by the way, like, packers fans don't have any concerns about the back. Like, that was never. That was never anything. Never anything real. Trying to grab him when he was leaving after that game on Friday. And. And the way Trayvon Diggs step to talk for him and like the way he mentioned the back and how Micah needed another mri, it was clearly very tongue in cheek, very sarcastic. So if you're a Packers fan, don't. Don't have any concerns about that.
James Palmer
I kind of want to mention this to you, Diana, and then, Matt, I want you to go after her because Joe John kind of talked about a little bit like the makeup of Micah Parsons. It's different, right? You got to coach him a little different. He acts a little different. He carries himself a little different. I got a text from somebody in the Cowboys that said that, that. That game you mentioned, that third preseason game, John was a microcosm of Micah's time here. I'm not. You're there every day, so you know better than I, but that's what I received. Diana, was there any sort of. We're talking. Numbers can always make deals, not work and trades happen. You're too far apart on numbers. But Micah as the player, in meetings, on the field, all those things, how much did that play a part in it? And then Matt, after that Just after Diana goes was is there any concern at all from the packers side of things about this? Being a player, you have to coach differently and work differently even though he's unbelievably successful.
Matt Schneidman
Diana, we can't hear you.

James Palmer
It's like you're on jeopardy. Like you think you're coming, like with your turn.
Matt Schneidman
Yeah.
Diana Rossini
So I just think it's important to know. And look, we've been reporting it. Everyone knows the story now that Jerry never negotiated he true. At the end of the day, he truly never negotiated with the agent. If they really wanted to pay him, if they really were invested in making this work, he would have picked up the phone. Because didn't you guys think that was so weird the whole time? And I remember talking to people close to Micah Parsons, talking to people with the Cowboys of. I don't understand why, like at some point here he just has to pick up the phone and call the agent and do the business the right way. And we saw how many interviews with Jerry over the last two weeks where he just seemed enough. Did not care. He did not care about how the way you're supposed to do it. And John, I know it was your conspiracy, you know, and I don't have any reporting to add to your conspiracy. It just, it's sounds right now, now that we've seen the truth and we've seen how this has played out, because I can tell you this was one of those trades where I. So, Matt, because you and I were talking a lot today, I was basically going around reaching out to head coaches, GMs and agents all day and just in a friendly way going, micah Parsons gets traded. Yes or no? I did not get one. Yes. Not one. Yes. And, and that just goes to show you though, just how valuable he is to a defense and just the, the caliber of player and just the fact that there was a thought there that Jerry loved him.
Matt Schneidman
Right.
Diana Rossini
And then that that relationship would be. Guys, I thought week one in Philadelphia, we were going to see Micah and Jerry hugging and it was going to be just a fun pregame show that we'd all be laughing at. Like, oh, what a waste of a time that was. What a waste of a summer of conversation. And here we are. So for, for, for Matt, for, you know, to what James is asking you.
Matt Schneidman
Yeah, I, I was just googling because I don't even remember what the contract was it like 47 million a year.
James Palmer
Yeah, that's what it says.
Matt Schneidman
That's insane. James, to your question of do they have any concerns about. Do they have to, you know, coach them differently? Not, not that I've heard. I mean, they obviously it's brand new.
James Palmer
It's. Yeah, right.
Diana Rossini
By the way, a GM that did not answer me because, you know, people are busy. Just wrote back, yes, they'll trade him.
James Palmer
Hey, man, he's right. He's right.
Matt Schneidman
You nailed it. Obviously not that I've heard of. Green Bay obviously kept this pretty close to the vest. It's crazy what a change of scenery will do for someone. If Michael was disgruntled in Dallas, who knows if he says, all right, Green Bay, none of that. It's a new leaf. Who knows if. If these surroundings are better. I've lived here almost six and a half. Not six and a half years, a little over six years. This is a different city. It's not, you know, made for everybody, but guys like Josh Jacobs and Xavier McKinney who came from Las Vegas and East Rutherford in last year, they said how it reminds them of their days at Alabama. They were teammates at Alabama and, and how you. You just focus on football and I don't know. Micah Parsons threw a hole in the wall, so John would know better if, if that suits him. But I don't know how much this matters. Michael Parsons is good friends with Jordan Love. They're both represented by the same agent. They went to Dubai together this summer with a group from that agency. There is a video of Micah Parsons and Jordan Love in a sand buggy, whatever you want to call it. And Micah is driving and the instructor says, don't flip it over. Don't like turn the wheel too quick because you'll flip it over. And Jordan Love says, if you flip it over, you have to come to Green Bay. That was this past summer. And then bury the lead man. Jordan Love has been on Micah Parsons podcast at, yes, Super Bowl Radio Row or whatever you want to call it, the last two years. And I think it was this past year Jordan Love teased him about coming to the Packers. So Jordan Love's already reacted with a bunch of fire emojis. Xavier McKinney, also represented by David Mulaguetta. He was the packers most important player on defense. I would say he's a reigning first team all Pro. I would say he's probably second most important right now. But I'm intrigued. And look, as a reporter, you all know this. You want to cover the big stories, the relevant stories. I don't know if you can hear that, but that's the unique views on every single story I write this year just skyrocketing.
James Palmer
Oh, I love it. Listen, this is, this is fun to do, but it's not I know you don't know who wins or loses a trade immediately. We don't know who those first two round, those two first round picks are going to be. But just off the top of your head, I want to go around the horn and just go, winner, loser of this trade possibly, or just your thought on, on who came out possibly ahead and maybe like Johnny Anderson's, it had to happen, right? Or maybe it, you know, I mean, just kind of around the horn of, of kind of winners and losers of this trade. John, we'll start with you.
John
Yeah, there's no question that the packers are the winner of this trade. I don't even think it's debatable. The, the Cowboys would have to hit on both of those picks for it to even be in the discussion. And, and probably even with that, Micah Parsons would probably have to have a career that his peak ends within the next season or two. You know, he is an undersized edge rusher. I'm sure there's some concern about that. Obviously the packers didn't have it with that, with that contract, but I know that there's some people that felt like that as the season went along. He kind of, he wasn't the same player at the end of the year that he was at the beginning because obviously the wear and tear that he was taking because he went from being drafted as a linebacker slash DN to where he was just rushing the passer all the time from different spots. So there is that. But I, I mean, there's no question the biggest loser in all of this is the city of Dallas because you go from losing Luka Doncic in February and he goes to the Lakers. So whatever he does, you're always going to hear about because he's with the Lakers. And so Micah Parsons didn't get shipped to Jacksonville. He went to the packers. As far as I'm concerned.
James Palmer
National brand.
John
Yeah. Well, the NFC is going to be represented in the, in the super bowl by either the packers, the Eagles or the Lions. I don't even think anybody else has even got a chance. And so you're going to be hearing about the packers and Micah Parsons a lot. And so, yes, the city of Dallas as it. Right now I'm looking out my window. It's starting to storm here. They, they are the biggest losers in all of this.
James Palmer
Go ahead, Matt.
Matt Schneidman
The biggest winners are the Sunday Night Football ratings people. Week four, packers at Cowboys.
James Palmer
Yes. Sunday Night Football.
Matt Schneidman
No, I, I think it's, it's the packers fans around here and I like to think I have my my finger accurately on the pulse of the fan base. Aren't thrilled with Brian Guda Kunst track record in the first round. He's had varying degrees of success. I'll read off to you Brian Guda Kunst's first round picks Jair Alexander Home run Rashawn Gary Absolutely a hit. Darnell Savage No. Jordan Love Yes. Eric Stokes no Quay Walker TBD Devonte Wyatt he's your number 1D tackle now. I would lean toward yes. Lucas Van Ness not yet. Jordan Morgan still too soon to decide. Matthew golden he's really good. At least it seems so. I don't care if you hit a home run on every single one of your first round picks. Players like this don't come around often. This is if he continues on this trajectory. A future hall of Fame player. This is someone who's being mentioned in the same breath as one of the six players who have their numbers retired on the facade at Lambeau Field and Reggie White. So I don't care who you've drafted in the first round. You have to do this. I thought it was going to be more draft capital. Look, I'm not trying to diminish the accomplishments of Kenny Clark. He's the longest tenured player for this franchise right now. He was their first round pick in 2016. He's still only 29 years old, three time Pro Bowler. He's healthy now. He's still got a good amount left in the tank, I think. But you didn't have to give up Rashan Gary, who's a a number one pass rusher in the NFL. Now you could make an argument he could be he got better number twos. And I'll add this ju just to close off, I know I'm going on a tangent here. Matt LaFleur said that before Jeff Halfley began his first season as defensive coordinator last year, he envisioned rushing a traditional four like he said the Eagles do effectively. The packers were not good enough to do that. They couldn't win their one on ones like that. Jeff Halfley had to incorporate exotic pressures and, you know, mugging seven guys at the line, dropping a D lineman and blitzing edgering Cooper from linebacker through the A gap or bringing Xavier McKinney off the edge. They had to get creative with how they drummed up pressures because their past rushers weren't Good enough. Now LaFleur can do what he ideally wants and just rush for drop seven in coverage. I think he can do that. We'll see. But I would say undoubtedly the winners on paper at least. And it's on paper for a reason. It's not on the field yet. Is the Green Bay packers the winners?
Diana Rossini
The NFC East. Jalen hurts right now. Jaden Daniels, who is just absolutely, probably elated that they don't have to deal with this. Look, the loser here.
James Palmer
You didn't say his name. You didn't say his name. Who's the third one?
Diana Rossini
Who am I missing?
James Palmer
You don't want to say Rusty. Russell Wilson. Danger, Russ. You want to say Danger, Russ.
Diana Rossini
Just to give Chase a shout out. Jackson, Dark. No. And Russell Wilson or Wood here. Look, I think the losers. Dak Prescott. He's already been relied on too much. He's coming off injury. We have. They're gonna have to carry this offense more. I think, quite frankly. The Dallas Cowboys had a chance to go far with Micah Parsons, and without him, they don't. And we're to look back on that and say this. That's the trade. Kind of like how we looked back, trying to think of the last time a trade that we run. Oh, boy. Probably A.J. brown.
James Palmer
Right?
Diana Rossini
We're like, oh, probably shouldn't have done that. Right? So, yeah, so the NFC east is definitely psyched tonight. And Green Bay, of course. James, what about you?
James Palmer
Well, I'm gonna say the winner is probably Kevin and the boys. Diana. So now you get some time to. Oh, now this will get in the rearview mirror before Labor Day.
Diana Rossini
I should just FaceTime weekends, be like.
John
What do you think?
James Palmer
And you guys can hang out. I actually. He's probably stoked he's out of the east, too. He's probably excited. He's a Birds fan. Listen, I. I do think. I. I do think the winners, honestly, are all of us, in terms of NFL fans. This is. Held us captive and I think maybe inappropriately so throughout the course of this entire off season, as it's been the dominant headline when there are things like, honestly, the Chiefs and the Eagles that have had very few headlines throughout the course of this off season who were in the Super Bowl a year ago. There's a lot of stuff going on in the NFL, and this has dominated it, and it will continue to dominate for. For Matt's sake, actually, so. And for his unique views. But we're. We're gonna. We're gonna have a chance to take a look at this as the season goes. I think that's a big part of this. I think, John, we're going to get an opportunity to see, just like, were they preparing to play without him? How much were they preparing to play without him throughout the course of camp. Because we have to find out very quickly now in a week how that defense is without Micah Parsons. And so I think it does change the landscape of. Of where we measure things in the NFC east and in the NFC in general. I think looking at the odds, they've already changed for both teams. Oh, stoked. I bet my man's fired up A.
Diana Rossini
G L E S E. We. We just want. Kev, we just want one quick reaction to the Micah Parson no longer in your division.
John
That's it. That's it.
Matt Schneidman
That's what I said.
Diana Rossini
That is all. You think that they're good.
Matt Schneidman
They're not better than the Eagles anyway.
Diana Rossini
All right, so there you go. The, the basic fan response. The Eagle. Our resident Eagle fan didn't think that it cost that much to get Micah Parsons.
John
Yeah, yeah. He doesn't have to deal with Micah Parsons twice in a season, but now you gotta deal with Michael Parsons the NFC championship game.
James Palmer
No, they play each other this season. Eagles do play each other.
Diana Rossini
Yeah, packers do play each other.
Matt Schneidman
The Eagles played the packers twice last year. So. And I just want to add one more thing. Well, the Eagles come to Green bay in week 10, Monday Night Football. I think the packers just traded for Micah to stop the tush push that they wanted banned. So.
James Palmer
Yeah, wait till you see Jalen and company running on second down. Matt, when they're run, you know, repeatedly.
Matt Schneidman
One of the most mind boggling things to me in this, and I, I don't know, Jerry Jones, like John and James and Diana do, but didn't he just say in the documentary that the 2023 playoff game was the worst loss he'd ever had for the Cowboys?
Diana Rossini
Yes, it's what John was just pointing out.
Matt Schneidman
And he traded his best player to that team. Granted, Zach, I say this tongue in cheek. Zach, Tom, who the packers just made one of the highest paid right tackles in the league, shut Michael Parsons down in that game. So maybe Jerry had just seen enough. But I, I'm flabbergasted that he traded him to the packers of all teams because of what John said earlier.
John
No. Hey. He says in the documentary that the. The cameras and the boom Mike followed him in the locker room. They have a clip in there of him hugging Micah Parsons and specifically telling him, this is not your fault after that packers loss. So. Wow.
James Palmer
Well, we'll finish this up. John, I want to give you the last word, honestly, because everybody's probably fascinated about this more so than. Than maybe the trade. No, they're not they want to know about the dollars in the trade, but they want to know how do they replace him? How do they play defense without Micah Parsons this season? What will we see in Dallas?
John
Yeah. The sleeper person to keep an eye on is Donovan Ezraku, their second round pick who's an edge rusher out of Boston College, led college football in sacks last year. He, he was a guy that really stood out in training camp. He's. He was going to be a guy that would probably play behind Micah Parsons, get maybe half the opportunities he's about to get. He's getting thrown to the wolves. I, I think that a lot of things open up for him, but then there's Dante Fowler will be a guy that factors in. Sam Williams is in a contract year. And then Marshawn Nealon, their last year's second round pick. Those are going to be the forward edge rushers that, that are out there. I mean, it was their deepest position, you know, with Micah Parson. Without him, it's still. The depth is good, but it's. You don't have that guy that every opposing offense is going, okay, where's 11? Where's 11? Where's 11? Like, you don't have. And that, that opens up so much for others. And so I don't see them in, In a way, it's almost like this move is like a mini, like, rebuild, because I just don't see them. They were already, with him, projected to be about an 8, 9 win team. So without Micah Parsons, I don't know how you realistically can think that you're a playoff team. So it's like the George Pickens deal really doesn't make sense right now. And then obviously dak Prescott being 32 years old, making $60 million a year for the next few years, I don't know how much that makes sense. So that's why you can't make it a full rebuild. But there, it seems like this is a little bit of one.
James Palmer
Wow. All right, before we go. Oh, go ahead, go ahead.
Matt Schneidman
You are going to love Kenny Clark. He is the best.
Diana Rossini
The best.
John
Oh, no. You're gonna love Micah Parsons.
Matt Schneidman
I thought I was.
John
I thought I would.
Matt Schneidman
I love Pat McAfee. He's had me on a bunch. I love watching their show. I do it even if Aaron Rodgers wasn't on. But now I have to tune into another podcast, but I was done with those. I, I say this all facetiously, but.
James Palmer
We got, we got Micah's. Micah's podcast, too. Dinah, before we go, those head coaches, you texted. What was Matt Laflore's response?
John
Yes, what did he say? But I'm sure he said, Diana, can you believe it? That's all they wanted. We would have given them so much more.
Diana Rossini
Probably what he's saying on the next episode of Skip City.
James Palmer
That's amazing with Diana saying that. Diana, John, Matt, guys. Appreciate you guys joining this Emergency Scoop City episode here live on the YouTubes and the Internets. In an emergency live episode of Scoop City, The Athletic’s NFL insiders break down one of the most shocking NFL trades in years: Dallas Cowboys superstar edge rusher Micah Parsons is traded to the Green Bay Packers for two first-round picks and Pro Bowl defensive tackle Kenny Clark.

John [06:08]:
“The best teams that (the Cowboys) had… the Packers ended all of those seasons. And so for him to send his best player to the Green Bay Packers is wild to me.”
Matt Schneidman [09:55]:
“I really do think addressing the weakest part of your team like this elevates the Packers to the elite of the NFC, which is what they needed to do.”
John [11:07]:
"How about that was not even really a real offer? ... Did you really think you were going to get a deal done for a mega superstar without the agent being involved?"
Matt Schneidman [21:04]:
“It’s crazy what a change of scenery will do for someone. If Micah was disgruntled in Dallas, who knows if he says, all right, Green Bay, none of that. It’s a new leaf.”
Diana Rossini [28:49]:
“The Dallas Cowboys had a chance to go far with Micah Parsons, and without him, they don’t. And we’re going to look back on that and say this — that’s the trade…probably A.J. Brown, right?...probably shouldn’t have done that.”
