Diana Rossini
Did you do Jersey exchanges when you were a player or is that a thing?
Chase Daniel
Oh, I was too cheap. Yeah, it was definitely a thing. That was too cheap. It was like 700 bucks a jersey.
Diana Rossini
No one ever asked you for yours.
Chase Daniel
Why would they want my jersey? Like what? Like hello. Who wants my jersey?
Diana Rossini
Welcome back to Scoop City. I'm the athletic senior NFL insider, Diana Rossini.
Chase Daniel
And I'm Chase Daniel. Played 14 years in the NFL.
Diana Rossini
Chase, are your replies as jam packed as mine were?
Chase Daniel
No, because you got way more than I did. I only got like, four.
Diana Rossini
Well, mine were probably jam packed. Not related to Scoop City. It's usually somebody mad about something or a lot of people mad about a lot of things.
Chase Daniel
You hate the Vikings. You ate the jets. You ate the. Come on.
Diana Rossini
Yeah. I think this is a good moment to say, hey, what's up, Minnesota Vikings fans? We love you guys. We love the Vikings. We just had a lot of question marks this off season for you guys, but this. This. This train is moving, moving ahead here with no issues. So. So what I'm talking about is Chase and I had tweeted some mailbag question ideas. We figured we spent so much of our time on this show getting across what we want to talk about because there's always so much news, and now things have quieted down. So we figured we wrap the week up with taking some of the Questions that you guys have some lingering for agent stuff, futures league questions, quarterback stuff, some job advice. We got a bunch of those, which I don't know why you'd be asking me. Some mascot cage matches. We got some questions about that. And the thing is, I won't answer all them. So we ripped through a bunch of them. We picked out our favorites. Hopefully one of yours got in there. If they didn't, then the next time you got to hop in here. So let's get right to it. Here's what I'm hearing around the league. All right, Trace. Wow. Don't even know my friend's name.
Chase Daniel
Trace.
Diana Rossini
Ch.
Chase Daniel
Trace.
Diana Rossini
I don't even know I know what my name is.
Chase Daniel
Chase, what are you doing? And we're keeping this in and we're not cutting it. And I'm going to ask you the freaking first question of this mailbag bonanza. And my name is Chase Daniel. All right, I'm going to kick it off with. You know, we're staying in the bay for the very first one. Will Brock Pie deal be done by training camp?
Diana Rossini
That is the most common question that we received because I think everyone just feels good about it, but they want to know now. I think the fans do. So I will tell you that I continue to get really good information about the situation. Meaning this is going to get done. There's no drama to it. This isn't going to go off the rails. At least that that's the expectation at this point. So if the question is do I think Brock Purdy is going to have a deal before training camp starts, I feel really good saying that here, you know, in May, knowing that things are just moving in a really good direction. And it. And it's actually been pretty drama free as a whole. Right. Sometimes these things can get real sticky. And I'm sure we're going to talk about some other contracts like Micah Parsons, where it just feels like there's. There's a lot of back and forth. This seems to be. To be moving in a really good direction.
Chase Daniel
The fact that they're moving in a good direction as well. I want to follow up though, when they are talking about this, right? And they're. They're going and Brock Purdy's camps probably like, give me 60 million and Brock Purdy then team is like, no, give me 50 million. And they end up. Do you see it why they haven't got it done? Is it more the years and the guaranteed money? Because that's what we talk about a lot. Or do you think it's the average per year that may be holding it up or nothing. They just aren't doing it right now.
Diana Rossini
Yeah, I always felt like the, the years were set, like they feel good about that. I, I think it's more the per year salary. I think, I think it's more about how much it's going to look like per year. But I, by the way, I, you, you mentioned, I know you were just playing a funny situation of the agents yelling like, give me 60 million. I never got that information that that's what they were asking for right out of the gate. So that's why that, that's why this always has felt reasonable. Like, I think, I think Brock Purdy's agent is really smart the way he's approaching this. And I think the 49ers understand what they have, yet at the same time know that if maybe they can get him at a, at a decent number here, they can fill some of the voids on this roster that we know that they have to do and some contracts that they have coming up. So, so, yeah, I feel good. That's a good way to start because we're, we're going to start positive here. So, yes, Niners fans feel good about the rocks.
Chase Daniel
Positive. Don't worry.
Diana Rossini
Well, I don't know some questions. We may go down some rabbit holes and get people a little upset with us, but I think we got it. All right, then how about this? This is from Ryan o' Hare. Shout out. Ryan, do you see a scenario chase where Jackson Dart starts on day one for the Giants?
Chase Daniel
Ooh, day one.
Diana Rossini
Day.
Chase Daniel
No, I don't, I don't think day one is, is realistic. And, and I tell you this, a couple reasons why. Number one, like, the team loves them, right? But they got Russell Wilson and he's going to go into the hall of Fame one day. He played pretty good ball down the stretch. I think it was 16 touchdowns, five interceptions. I know they lost some games, not all of it was because of them. The Pittsburgh Steelers defense sort of fell off a cliff last year toward the end of the year, let up a lot of points. And you still have James Winston, right? So I do think there's something to be said about Brian Dall putting Jackson Dart at number three for now and letting Jackson Dart get his feet wet because the Brian Dall offense, like, he understands how to bring long a quarterback. He had Josh Allen, Josh Allen's offensive creditor from 2018 to 2022, brought him along. However, the plan, and Joe Shane was there too, if you remember. And I had to look this up because I thought it was really fascinating. The plan right now from Joe Shane and Brian Dabal in New York, right. We're going to sit him and we're going to, we're going to do this and who knows when he'll play. They said the exact same thing about Josh Allen and if you remember, Nathan Peterman was in there like, oh, we're not forcing J. Josh Allen out. We're not doing that. I get it's Nathan Peterman, he threw two interceptions in the first half of the game. Josh Allen took over in the first game, in the second half. So everyone has a plan till they get punched in the mouth. Who knows what happens if Russell Wilson goes out, throws three or four interceptions. I like Jackson Dart. The one thing that we most and I say we people that study the draft and study the quarterbacks, the one thing we saw with Jackson Dart and he needs to learn a little bit. I don't know if he's ready to play right away. The last thing I'll say about this because this was actually something we talked about quite a bit on the facility, our Fox show and I had our researchers do this and the research says, because I'm very analytical. The last five years, the first round picks at quarterback, okay, there's a good bit of them. The average time that they have waited to play in a game is only three weeks. They're starting by three weeks. That's the average. You take out Jordan Love because he sat for years and you take out J.J. mcCarthy because he was hurt all quarter. I think there was like 14 in the last or like there was like almost three a year week three. So I don't think it's going to be like oh, week 10 unless they're rolling. I wouldn't, I mean like history would say it's week three that Jackson Dart would probably start.
Diana Rossini
Yeah. So then what's your philosophy on this? Because I, I've talked to so many coaches over the years who, you know, believe that the, the rookie should sit, learn. But you know, then you hear the other side of it is you're not going to learn until you get out there. Right. Obviously Patrick Mahomes is, is the best example with Alex Smith there. Remember last year on Scoop City here we were crushing the Patriots for playing Jacoby Brissette. They were like put in Drake maybe. What are you doing? And, and obviously Drake May went out there and proved that. Yeah, he should have been starting the whole time. So then what, what's the way to do this. I mean, I think it's obviously specific to these quarterbacks. You, you know, you. In your opinion, you. You mentioned that Dart needs a little. He's going to need more experience, some more time.
Chase Daniel
Exactly. And I think the key here, Diana, is they have Russell Wilson, right? It's not. They don't have those other guys. They don't have, you know, you know, Jacoby Brissette. They don't have Nathan. It's Russell Wilson and he'll probably. He's earned the right to start. But I would imagine it's a quick hook because you, you know, on this show, and I don't know if you agree or not, even though from the New York area, I think the only way Brian Dabal and Joe Shane keep their job is if you play the rookie quarterback and you give us some hope for where the future's going. Win seven, eight games with Jackson. Dart show a lot of growth. Right? Because I don't know if they win nine games with Russell Wilson, which I don't know if the roster is good enough or not, but if they win nine games, Rosalind, don't make the playoffs. I don't know if they're back. They were on the hot seat this year. I think they have to play. And people are like, you're crazy. I just feel like he's going to be forced into action probably a lot sooner than we think.
Diana Rossini
No, I think that's a great point to make, that the surrounding cast, the situation that's. That's hovering over it may cause different decisions or have decision makers make calls on things that they normally wouldn't. But you look at that quarterback room of Russ and Jamis, and I mean, I'm sure you're seeing Jamis out on social media right now. He's like, we're going to New Jersey Delis. Like, yelling, gaba ghoul. Like, what is happening? It's. It's going to be a fascinating quarterback room to watch. And I mean, credit to the Giants for keeping it. Keeping it electric. So we'll see. We'll see how this shakes out. We've got one from Mo Moten. Momo. At Momo. You think it's mountain or Mountain?
Chase Daniel
Yeah, whatever.
Diana Rossini
When is the 18th game getting added? So I feel like I should take this first from a. Just things I hear about. Right. I think this is something the owners are always discussing and trying to push, but it's going to come down to the seat, the players, right. And what they're going to want with the CBA coming Up. So take it away. My player rep. Yeah.
Chase Daniel
So if people didn't know or watch the show. I used to be a union rep, the NFL Player association union rep for I think like seven or eight years of my life, of my career, which they were great because I learned a lot. I was a part of three separate, which is crazy because I only played 14 years and each CBA runs 10 years each. I was a part of three separate CBAs. So collective bargaining agreement, it's what people in these teams agree with with the players to play under. So three different ones and an uncapped year. So we've seen some crazy stuff. I was in the room when we were negotiating the newest CBA, right? Went to 17 games. Got that. This is not even going to remotely happen until the deal is up. And that's in 2030, I would imagine. The NFL, unless they come to the. So like here's the thing. The deal is signed right now by the players association and the NFL and it is signed. This is the work agreement that we have to play under. I'm not sure how the opt outs are and stuff like this. This ends at the conclusion of the 2030 season. I would imagine that's probably a good time because we haven't even started. I don't think the NFLPA started even negotiating new collective bargain agreement. Right. They're just trying to figure out how much money do we need to fight this? Because it's like a bunch of lawyers like, hey, I'm bigger than you, I'm going to fight you and we're going to win. The thing about the 18th game, that I just want to make abundantly clear, if the players don't agree to it, it won't happen. If the, and, and people are like, well, they just force. If the players don't agree with it, the 18 games won't happen. Okay, Chase, what does that mean? The NFL is willing to negotiate certain things to get an 18th game. We've already gone to 17. You heard, you heard even Joe Burrow saying, and I went a little hard on him, but it was like, hey, we need 18 games, okay? And I'm like, you don't want to start quarterback saying that like we need to buy weeks. And he was asked about it, right? Not a big deal. The NFL will have to give up something significant for the players to bump from 17 games to an 18 game season. Obviously with that bump goes a lot of money for the NFL. They get an extra home game, an extra away game, all this stuff. And it's just what is the NFL Players association willing and wanting to get? That's what it comes down to. And I'm out of those conversations. People are like, lifetime health. I don't think lifetime health insurance will ever happen. We did a study on it a few years ago. It was like $5.8 billion for it to happen. I don't think that's realistic to happen. Right. I think an extra bi a week is much a bigger slice of the piece. Meaning what? The NFL splits with the NFLPA and the NFL players. Right. So it's a very, very deep conversation, but that's probably like the. The best I can do. 40, 000 foot up.
Diana Rossini
Yeah. So this probably won't get moving in terms of it actually happening to the new cba. And players are going to probably want more time off. It sounds like just from what you know, it's going to come out of money. Right? It's not usually money.
Chase Daniel
It's all money. It's all money. Yeah, it's all money.
Diana Rossini
That is true. So we'll see how that. We'll see how that shakes out. But I think it's one of those things where I think in our lifetime, we're going to see it.
Chase Daniel
It'll happen. Because I think the NFL give up something and the players will be like, we, we can't. You know, it's not really 50, 50. I'm pretty sure it's like there's like media kickers and stuff. I think it's 48% that the players get. And 52 or 48 and a half a half. It's just a percentage point on billions of dollars is a lot of money to the players. Right. And so I think that is something that the players want. All right, next question. Moving on. Nolan, this is funny at user 84624 that's really the name. What have we been hearing about Nick Chubb? Is he talking with the Bears of the Viking?
Diana Rossini
So let's just start with Cleveland, right? Because we know that they've had a great relationship over the years. And then you take a look at what Cleveland's done in the draft. They took a running back in the second round, they took a running back in the fourth round. Andrew Barry pointed that out as well. Was like you, you know, kind of hinting like, yeah, we're probably not bringing him back here. It's probably not going to be in Cleveland. So look, at this point, he is not signed. There have been rumors about the Bears. Um, I haven't gotten any intel that that's Very serious or the Vikings. So I think this is going to be another situation where we're going to see a signing happen closer to camp. Look, he's obviously coming off those significant, significant injuries. He's getting older. Obviously we know when he is healthy, how dangerous he can be and, and how beloved he is on. You know, you heard all the amazing stories, I'm sure you did when you were playing. I know I certainly did as a reporter about who Nick Chub is and, and what he's all about. So I think he'll, he'll find a home. I just don't think it's right now. I think it's just he's gonna probably have to wait a few weeks here.
Chase Daniel
Let's see him working out. He looks in good shape.
Diana Rossini
Yeah. How about @s blunt for Eagles?
Chase Daniel
Who put this in the show?
Diana Rossini
I don't know, but Eagle people. Philadelphia right now. Philadelphia right now is just. Did you see what that woman did in the road rage situation? She was so angry about somebody cutting her off that she got out of the car and defecated on their hood all on camera.
Chase Daniel
Billy's different, man.
Diana Rossini
My heart. What's one team nobody's talking about that could make a deep playoff run this season?
Chase Daniel
Los Angeles Chargers.
Diana Rossini
There was mine, but you go first. I'll give you.
Chase Daniel
Oh, really? This was not. Yeah, this was not scripted at all. I like that I got the Chargers. First of all, love, love how they approach free agency. Love that. The fact, the fact of that like Harbaugh knows exactly who they are as a team and that that's. Sometimes you see like these draft picks or these free agency signings or these resigning of people and you're like, that doesn't really fit the scheme. I mean, dude, they, they had a great off season. Obviously the defense is like top three overall in almost every major single category. Category, at least top five. So we know the defense is there. They're tough, they're hard nosed. They have one of the best offensive lines in football. When you add a guy like Omarion Hampton from UNC to me, that is like an excellent pick. That is Jim Harbaugh saying, we know exactly who we are and what we can do. Not only can he run the ball in between tackles, he can catch the ball out of the backfield and then the, the, the pick two, that's not really getting talked about a lot. Trey Harris for Ole Miss. So when I'm watching Jackson dart, we were just talking about him. I kept seeing who's this receiver who's this receiver, Trey Harris, big guy, 4, 5, 40 guy, he's not quite Mike, Mike Williams size. I know Mike Williams went back there, right. But you put Trey Harris on the outside, you have Mike Williams on the other outside and you have lad McConkey, who I think is a star on the inside. And then you have Justin Herbert. Right? Like that's, that's the whole talk of this really early off season was like, can Justin Herbert get over the hump? He doesn't want a playoff game. And you know, they got smoked by Houston. He threw some interceptions. I think if he plays really well this year, the Chargers can be a dangerous team. And we see this at every stop that Jim Harbaugh goes to. He just continually rebuilds and reamps it up. And they're a team that I am following really closely.
Diana Rossini
Yeah, let Jim cook here. And look, we spend every season saying, man, when are they gonna get Justin? Someone around him, he needs more, he needs more. That can't be said anymore. Like they're, you know, like we can actually have a conversation about him having a shot here and this team having a shot, a potential to make a deep playoff one. Which is why they, they, they came right to my head. People are talking about the Bears. That was my second one, so it wasn't as electric because people always talk about the Bears. Yes, but I'm talking about the Bears in, in the light of, they can be really good. Like just you, you know, you're giving credit to Jim Harbaugh about knowing who he is and knowing what they want. I can say the same thing about Ben Johnson. He knows exactly who he is and knows exactly what he wants. And the fact that they've beefed up their offensive line, the skill players are all set right now. It's just, this is now where you can, we can actually just say it's on Caleb Williams, like, can he take the step? Because they're, they're giving him all the pieces. I don't know what else they could have done.
Chase Daniel
No great off season for the Bears. I totally agree.
Diana Rossini
I haven't been this excited about a first time head coach in a really long time. I was actually trying to think about that the other day of like, when was the last time a head coach had an off season like this? Coaching for the first time. And you just know after September you're gonna go, yep, that made, yep, I get it. I, I know why they paid him as much.
Chase Daniel
It feels like that, it feels different.
Diana Rossini
I, I, I wish I had some deep intel from people around the league telling me about Ben Johnson and what like, yeah, they all say nice things about him, but obviously we're not going to be able to make that judgment until we see what he puts on the field. But just the excitement and the momentum in Chicago for what this could look like because they've got the right leader in the building. I think think they got so much potential. Speaking of the right leaders, all right, we got Johannes Schneider at Jokul Wu.
Chase Daniel
Love that name.
Diana Rossini
I wish I had a cold Twitter name.
Chase Daniel
I think I'm supposed to be reading this one, Diana, but you can take it for yourself.
Diana Rossini
Has there been a quicker turnaround of an organization than what the Harris Group has done in Washington? Okay, so we talk on the show so much about the importance of ownership and leadership and programs, and I think Washington is just an example of that. I think it also helps this new ownership group that the last one was so bad that you had to take a step up. Don't you agree? I mean, you were there. You know what?
Chase Daniel
Washington, they got the quarterback and the head coach. We, we talked about it. Your, your, your pick for super bowl champion was the Houston Texans after they took that jump with d' Amico, Ryan's and CJ Stroud. This feels like that, this feels like.
Diana Rossini
Let'S hope it's not like the second year that you said, I don't want to see that second.
Chase Daniel
Sorry. Commanders fans. We're, we're big fans.
Diana Rossini
But NFL rookie of the year, obviously, with their quarterback. They got the guy. It's just right, you know, it's right. You listen to him. You watch him. We talk to him at the super bowl. And you just know, you, you just know he's the guy.
Chase Daniel
Let me ask you something. And maybe you can't delve too far into it, but like with change of ownership, right, you don't see it a lot because not everyone has billions of dollars to just go out there and buy franchises. But when you see something like the Pinners, the Denver Broncos with Sean Payton, right. Sort of blank check for Sean. Sean has anything he wants and turn around, make the playoffs. Right. Like replace the, just like all this stuff with the Harris Group, what do you think? Like, I'm trying to put it in perspective for our listeners. Like, why does change of ownership matter so much?
Diana Rossini
So. Well, real quick to drive by in your on the Broncos ownership style. I agree that they understood that they are new to the NFL game, we'll say, and knew that they needed to improve. And let's bring in a guy like Sean Payton, who's got tons of experience, will give him the steering wheel here. They are still involved a lot though, in terms of just hearing out what the plan is. They're not one of those ownerships that just leave the city and aren't heard from for, you know, three weeks and then they get an email like, hey, how things are. So I would say that there'd be like medium involved in. From what I've been told before from a lot of people in Denver, it's a healthy type of ownership. Okay, now let's talk Washington. I don't think Washington handed the keys over to Adam Peters and Dan Quinn the way we're kind of thinking of Denver. I don't think it says that free for all and this is your baby. Go take care of it. So Josh Harris has experience, right. He's owner of the 76ers, the New Jersey Devils. He's done this. They understand the blueprint of this. Where I give them credit is I feel like from not just a PR lens, but just collectively, they looked at this project as we have got to start from the ground up and fix it and get the fans back. Because they realize they have the fans as, as. And you know this, but as I worked in Washington forever and I always have told people that of all the cities I've lived in, they were the wildest about their football team. And I think ownership, because they're from Virginia, they knew, they knew they had, they had to fix the perception of what this team was going to be by making really good decisions. And now, of course, you're hearing the news about RFK and them going back there. You know, in terms of stadium, even just the fan experience from what I've been told has been different. When you watch a game there, they've improved, they improved the facilities.
Chase Daniel
Yeah. It's not just one thing.
Diana Rossini
Correct. There's a lot of different areas that I think they've quickly try to fix, but yet still have a really good long term plan here. And look, it doesn't help that you've got Jaden Daniels. They've got the quarterback. It's, it's amazing.
Chase Daniel
No one gives Dan Quinn enough credit for everything that he's done in that locker room. I know some people that are coaches there, there and they tell me some stuff that I'm just like, like, they're like, this is a really, really great head coach who has his pulse on the entire locker room and entire like place of work. It, it's like, it's unbelievable.
Diana Rossini
Let's Have a theme of our inseason scoop city shows. Like, just whenever the commanders come up or whenever we talk Washington, anything, we quickly give a line. Dan Quinn is underrated. Like, just something just like the theme of give him his love because we don't. I don't do it. And. And I've covered Dan for years. I love Dan as a person, as a human being. He's a wonderful person from New Jersey. But for some reason, and I think a lot of it had to do with the process of how he got the job because we knew that they wanted Dan Johnson. Right. And then Anthony Beaver had a good shot at. And so, like, it was like, oh, he was like kind of the. The consolation prize. It felt like. Yet they hit a home run with the guy.
Chase Daniel
Home run.
Diana Rossini
All right, I want to finish with this one. There's still so many we're to get to. But this past week, Bomani Jones noted that a critical skill for being a backup quarterback is being a good hang. This comes from too loud talker at too loud talker. As a superlative NFL backup quarterback, can you share your tips for being a good hang?
Chase Daniel
What? Bovati Jones. Love you, man. But, yeah, I mean, you gotta be more than a good hang.
Diana Rossini
I feel like this question should be for me, do I think you are a good hang?
Chase Daniel
You know, I know you know I'm a good hang.
Diana Rossini
I mean, I do share with you twice a week. I'm better.
Chase Daniel
Yeah. There's a lot that goes into being an NFL quarterback, specifically the backup. Right. Like, obviously, you want to have the starter mindset, but when you're the backup, you got to sort of act like it. Meaning there's a lot of stuff that goes on behind the scenes. You got to, first of all, get along with the starter. If this, if this. I've been. I, I actually know some people. I'm not going to say names that have gotten backup jobs because they're friends with the starters and the starter is like, hey, bring this guy in, whether there's a third string or the backup. So, one, that, that is. That is true. But two, you can't be. You can't be. I don't even know what I want to say. I can't say it because I don't want to bleep it and I don't want to cuss. You can't. You can't be a butthole. You have to. You can't be a jerk, and you have to be able to get along with everyone in the organization, not just the offensive room. Right. The quarterback room. But you got to serve the starter. You got to serve the offensive corner. You got to serve the. It's a very serving job. Right. Like, what can I do to make you better? How can I get this? Because the whole goal going into the week is getting the starter ready. So you're just like, hey. And then, you know, you're obviously, sometimes you're filtering in people. Hey, tell, tell Justin Herbert this. Ah, no, hey, tell Justin from all these, the, the trainer and the head coach. Even that does like not an offensive coach. So you get to have to sort of pick to be the filter on what you're filtering that the quarterback needs to have. So it is a cool. You do have to be a good hang. No one wants to hate a backup quarterback.
Diana Rossini
Yeah, right. I definitely, I, I just got a show idea for the summer. I want to do 10 questions. We've always wanted to ask a quarterback or a backup.
Chase Daniel
Yeah.
Diana Rossini
Because now I, now I'm thinking, oh, what about this and what about that?
Chase Daniel
I'll be there.
Diana Rossini
You know, use the phrase it's your job to get the starter ready. Well, what does that look like? So we'll do that another show. I love it. All right, let's take a quick break. We were all over the place on that one, but I think we should continue. We got a lot more topics coming in, more league wide stuff and we got a good question about swag, like this stuff that players get. I got a good one coming up for you. All right, we'll be right back.

All right, back here on Scoop City, it is our first mailbag extravaganza. We've Gone this long. We've never done a mailbag because all we do is talk about the topics that everyone's talking about. But it is now time for us to do some work for you around here. I love this question from Jake the Giant. 4. Shout out Jake. Here's the dumbest shower thought I had recently, by the way. Jake, big shower thinker as well. Do all my thinking in the shower. Do players get infinite free swag or is it like here's your standard annual refresh and the rest you gotta go buy from the team store. What is the deal with team gear and all that, Jake?
Chase Daniel
You can go in and you can get as much free swag as you want. I. It just like keeps going and going and going. And you know what? I got lucky. And I haven't really told a lot of people this, but when I was with the Chargers and everyone would see me on the field my last year of the Chargers and it would be the sickest pair of Jordan cleats that anyone really would have in the league other than Dak. And I wasn't even a Jordan guy. I wasn't sponsored. Melvin Ingram had a deal with Jordan. Melvin Ingram wore a 12 and a half. You know who made best friends with the equipment guy that year? And I got a brand new pair and I have them all out in my garage right here and I'm keeping them cuz they're like custom one on ones. You can get whatever you want, buddy. You just go in. New shirt. Yeah. New hat. Yeah.
Diana Rossini
You just go to the equipment guy and you're just like hey, I need.
Chase Daniel
Couple pair of pants, socks. Pair of pants, socks. Yeah, whatever you want.
Diana Rossini
Did you do jersey exchanges when you were a player? Is that a thing?
Chase Daniel
I was too cheap. Yeah, it was definitely a thing. I was too cheap. It was like 700 bucks a jersey.
Diana Rossini
No one ever asked you for yours.
Chase Daniel
Why would they want my jersey? Like what? Like hello, who wants my jersey? You know what? You know what? I actually think that like honestly, it was a preseason game. Blaine Gabbard, I was a senior when he was a freshman. He backed me up at Missouri. We played each other in the preseason. He asked for me for my jersey because he was like, chase, you're meant like I. And I said no. I said no, it's too.
Diana Rossini
So he wanted your jersey because you were like the, the backup quarterback rep. Like in a way like people looked at you as like the God of backups.
Chase Daniel
We were teammates at Missouri. Everything. He like. I taught him some stuff. Yeah, he was looking at his follow here, Diana.
Diana Rossini
I just made up a whole philosophy that he had.
Chase Daniel
You literally, where's your head? I just said I was a senior at the University of Missouri. He was a freshman. He was my back.
Diana Rossini
Because I was thinking, why would Blake Gabbard want it? I'm like, oh, I guess because, you know, Chase is like the king of quarterbacks, of backups.
Chase Daniel
You know, like, see you. You went where? Probably elsewhere. Disrespectful.
Diana Rossini
If you're listening or watching, you're like, I kind of knew what she was saying. Sorry.
Chase Daniel
Disrespectful. That's right.
Diana Rossini
Not disrespectful at all. You're the best. But that. Wait, but here's the worst part. You were talking about disrespectful. You said no. Yeah, said the guy says, thank you.
Chase Daniel
Did you say that me and Blaine are boys too? Oh, yeah. I said, blaine, it's too expensive, bro.
Diana Rossini
No, I can't.
Chase Daniel
We still. He text me the other day. We're boys. All right, I'm up. All right. We got Brenton from at Brenton717. How do so many well paid and presumably well informed insiders get so many things wrong?
Diana Rossini
Oh, my goodness. Hopefully you weren't talking about me, my friend. I think the one part of reporting and breaking news that a lot of people don't take into account is things change a lot. You'd be surprised how many. How much. How often things will go from one way to the other, and it's. It's fluid all the time. I will get something directly from the player's mouth, and a minute later, something will change. Like, it. It just happens.
Chase Daniel
It's not the player lying, though. It just changes.
Diana Rossini
It just changes. Things just change. Now, look, there are some scenarios where, like, you know, we started the show talking about Brock Purdy. Do I think that Kyle Shanahan's gonna wake up today and go, you know what? Let's not pay Brock. Let's go bring in Aaron Rodgers. Like, no, like, Chase, you're making a face like, I'm reporting that. No, I'm saying that that's like a drastic example. Like, things like that don't happen. But you'd be surprised how many conversations I've had with people who've shared information with me where I'll. Where I'll say, like, what happened? Like, you know, like, well, it changed or like, we're not doing this anymore Or I decided to go here or the team came in late and offered this, so I decided to sign with them. Like so I think instead of looking at it as how can so many high paid insiders get things wrong, I think you have to give a little grace that not only is the, the job highly stressful, but not everything is, is set in stone all the time. So my answer to that is just follow me, don't follow the other people.
Chase Daniel
Things change. Follow Diana. All right, you're up.
Diana Rossini
All right. All right, you're up. I'm up. All right, don't bore me on this one, but I found this interesting. Okay, here's why. So Chris Remoff. Remhoff. Chris Remoff at Chrisremhoff. And Chris, I didn't mean to say that your question was boring. I just saw it and was like, eh. But I think, I do think people are interested. How many years does it take to qualify for a pension? Is your pension based off your salary and does it increase year after year?
Chase Daniel
The great question, actually.
Diana Rossini
Yes, that's a great question.
Chase Daniel
Yeah, don't listen to her at all. Yeah, three years and three games. Three years and three games. So really it's technically four years. Okay. You have to have four years in the league to be vested, which means you get your benefits that are added. There's all sorts of benefits. We can go through them. But the pension specifically, okay, you get your benefits after three years and three games. Three games is accredited season. So if you're on the roster for three games and you get cut the fourth, you're getting four years worth of pension. So our pension, it provides you with monthly pension benefits beginning at the age of 55. And you have obviously survivor benefits. All it is is it goes up incrementally each year. So you pay one year, you get this, you pay five years, you get this, you pay 10 years, you get this. Really, 10 years is like a really. It's incredibly difficult to do. It is a really, really great sweet spot for all these benefits. And a lot of people don't understand. I'm not going to go through all of them. The benefits that the National Football League gives its players is almost as good as the cash that it gives its players. And a lot of people, and a lot of players don't understand that there are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 ways you can make money as benefits. As an NFL former athlete, the pension plan, the 401k, there's a capital accumulation plan, which is just a different way to, hey, here's some more money. There's an annuity, there's a health reimbursement account which Means you earn so much money in your health reimbursement account, you can pay for health insurance, you can pay for chiropractors, stuff like this. There's a severance and then there's life insurance. So there's so many different avenues to earn it. But the pension, three years, three games, and it can go up quite a bit. And you get paid out monthly Once you turn 55 if you want it continue to grow, though.
Diana Rossini
All right, my bad. That was interesting. I never, I didn't know that. I didn't realize that. So that was really good. All right, you're up.
Chase Daniel
All right, I got one tall rider, Dot B Sky. So blue sky. When will Roger Goodell retire and who will replace him?
Diana Rossini
Good question. So figure what. Roger Goodell is 66 years old. He got another three year extension a few years ago. So 2027, his deal will be up, which tells me they'll probably start working on that or at least he's probably thinking about it soon to get a move on it. That was his fourth extension too, because remember, he's been the commissioner since 2006. Like that's six, 2006. Yeah, it gone fast.
Chase Daniel
Two decades.
Diana Rossini
Two decades, four different extensions he's received. He's making what, roughly 60 to 65.
Chase Daniel
Million a year, which is crazy.
Diana Rossini
Highest paid commissioner because financially, look how well they've done. Right? So from I was at the owner's meeting a few weeks ago and from what I gather, he still wants to do this. So that tells me he wants another contract extension. Look, I think a lot of owners really like him. They, there are some owners that, they've got their own opinions about him, but I don't necessarily believe they'll ever do enough about it to make those changes to bring in a new commissioner at this point. Of course, this could all change and there's a lot more money to be had here with all the streaming services and the way we're seeing him do business. And I think, look, we could probably do a whole show of is Roger Goodell a good commissioner? Right. Like we, we could probably do it. So put that back on the list of what we're going to do this summer where we could talk about, we could talk to people around the league of what they think about them. But look, most of these deals are incentivized. They're like players. Right. So he's just going to continue to. As he's growing the sport internationally.
Chase Daniel
Yeah, international is big for him. You would imagine that he gets a contract extension and it goes through the end of the CBA at 20, 30. And then they start really thinking about it when he's 73.
Diana Rossini
73, yeah. I mean, if that's what he wants to do. He's got two daughters, you know, in college. You know, look, you spend some time with him. He does not at all come off as a 65, 66 year old. No. Like, he's got tons of energy, he's motivated, he's got great relationships around league. So I don't foresee a change at commissioner. If anything, I would lean more towards him getting a contract extension.
Chase Daniel
Last one and then we can end it. Go to the next block. What coaches are on the hot seat for 2025 from James Branson. James Branson, too. I love that question.
Diana Rossini
What? You love that question? It's May. What do you mean you love that question?
Chase Daniel
There's got to be somebody.
Diana Rossini
Well, we talked about him already, right? You brought up the Giants. And when we say hot seat, I don't necessarily believe that John Maris sat there and said, if this, if you don't win this many games, you're out. I just am reading the tea leaves of how they have been discussing their happiness with Brian and Joe Shane there. Remember when John Mara had that press conference that we've talked about a million times where it was like he was eating lemons the entire time he was talking about it. Now you have me thinking of if there's any other coaches.
Chase Daniel
What about the. The guy in Miami, Mike McDaniel.
Diana Rossini
That's a good one.
Chase Daniel
That has not got an extension yet.
Diana Rossini
That is a good. He got an early extension. Right. So they were all in on him initially. I don't necessarily. I wouldn't call it hot. Hot. Flaming hot. But I. I know the owner likes him. It's just going to be about TUA here. That's what is. What it always comes down to in Miami. I think Tennessee is what I'm watching. Brian Callahan. That one is right. Because you've got a new general. You've had so much change there. I have a hard time imagining that they're going to be okay with the losing season again. If Brian Callahan isn't able to produce with Kimber, there's no way. No, no, I don't. I think. I think Zach, I would imagine that.
Chase Daniel
But you never know.
Diana Rossini
Kevin Stefanski in Cleveland, I think is fine. There was a time last year I was worried about it where I was like, how's this going to go? Because they're. They didn't look like they had a lot of answers. But, but I think they're going to be all right. Which by the way, two time coach of the year, you know, two time. But other, other than that, I mean, you look around the league and everyone, everyone's pretty set at this point. Oh, that's a good one. Actually. I thought Chris Ballard was going to be in trouble this year. He made it true. Right. Look, it's going to be quarterback.
Chase Daniel
Have to be. Both of them.
Diana Rossini
Have to be. They're going to be looked at for. For sure. Definitely. All right, let's take a quick break. When we come back, we've got questions from you guys that some have a little bit of a football tone, but some are from you guys that have been following and listening to us and have gotten to know us a little bit. And I can tell these questions were to just maybe mock us. I don't know. We got some weird ones, we got some funny ones, and we've got some ones that are going to make you laugh, I think. So we'll be right back.

All right, Chase, I'm not gonna lie. I've been looking forward to these questions all episode because look, we do so many big J topics, big journalism questions on this show and finally we can just let loose here so there are no wrong answers to these questions from our great residents of Scoop city. So let's start with Austin Toback. Do you dunk cookies in a glass of milk or a bowl of milk?
Chase Daniel
A bowl of milk.
Diana Rossini
Who doesn't?
Chase Daniel
This body don't eat cookies. This body eats. I'm joking. I like cookies. I dunk it in a glass like everyone else.
Diana Rossini
Yeah, that's weird. All right, you go.
Chase Daniel
All right. South Lake Taco. I hope it's South Lake Texas, cuz that's my hometown. Diana, which mascot do you think would win in a Royal Rumble styled match?
Diana Rossini
Oh my goodness. Swoop the eagle. He seems nasty.
Chase Daniel
Why? Swoop?
Diana Rossini
Yeah. Do you ever see him?
Chase Daniel
Yeah, he does seem nasty.
Diana Rossini
I don't think he looks like a nice bird. He's supposed to be a nice bird, but I don't know, he's got a little edge.
Chase Daniel
He's supposed to be a nice bird.
Diana Rossini
Yeah, it's. It's like Poe the Ravensburg. Why do I know these guys names? Why do I know their names?
Chase Daniel
Yeah, I couldn't tell you a mascot that I know. The definitely not. The Chiefs one. He looks too nice. Colts one's too nice.
Diana Rossini
Oh, Colts one's so sweet. The Chargers guy's so sweet. Yeah, some. I guess their job is to be nice. But how about single? I like the idea of putting them all in a fight. Like bring out a different side to them, you know?
Chase Daniel
I like it. I like it. All right, I got another one for you at Danny Neelis. Will. Oh, this is a good one. Will. Diana, apologize to. Pardon my meme.
Diana Rossini
Why? There's nothing to apologize for. He is a die hard jets fan who is so upset and angry at the messenger. Not the actual fact that his team is the one doing this stuff. So no, I have nothing to apologize to him for. He constantly thinks I'm going after the jets on purpose to hurt him.
Chase Daniel
Like you hate the Jets.
Diana Rossini
Yeah, no, I love the Jets. I want to see the jets do well I'm so sorry that it was not a great two years, but as I think a lot of people have figured out that everything we reported is accurate. And I just think sometimes jets fans have a hard time dealing with that. It's so funny. We. We went out to dinner last weekend and there were a bunch of jets fans who were out who wanted to let me know how they felt. Just like memes, not happy.
Chase Daniel
Stop harassing Diana at dinner.
Diana Rossini
Jets fans.
Chase Daniel
It's not cool.
Diana Rossini
I know. Especially not my kids. I want them to think I'm cool. All right, this one. I like this. My daughter just accepted a lower level job with the Packers. What is your advice to her as she tries to advance? This is Mark at Brown's Brewers.
Chase Daniel
Well, I think you would probably be better at answering that, but I would say work hard, follow your heart.
Diana Rossini
That is your. That is your advice to somebody trying.
Chase Daniel
To honestly though your heart. You know what? You know what, though? Yeah, that sounded hard work is not talked about enough. Doing the uncomfortable jobs and the jobs you might not want to do, and you might not want to stay up late at night, you might not want to write that email. Just do it. Do it. Hard work is lost on our society today. That's how I feel.
Diana Rossini
I think defining what hard work means is the problem, right? Because everyone wants to say they work hard. Everyone says that they put in all the hours, they put in the time. Well, what does it look like, though? Are you putting in the right amount and are you doing it in the most efficient way? But I'd say if she's just starting out, I would suggest doing what I think I did well early, which was I asked a lot of questions and I listened and I stayed in touch with people. I think that's really important to make sure that.
Chase Daniel
Stayed in touch with people, relationship building.
Diana Rossini
If people helped you that you don't just bother them. When you need something that you just once in a while, you. You send a hello, you send a note, an email, a text. That's the thing with communication today. Like, there's such. There's such an easy way to keep relationships alive. It may not be the most personal way, but you can at least make a little effort.
Chase Daniel
So that's good advice. Way better than work hard and follow your heart.
Diana Rossini
Follow your heart, but still follow your heart. And by the way, what your heart is set on isn't always what it's going to turn out to be in terms of where you land. Like, look at me. I thought it was going to be a copy No, I didn't, but I think I'd make a great cup. All right, last one. This is. This is perfect because I'm going to a wedding in two weeks, so I wanted to get this one for you from you. What is an example of wedding behavior that people do that, that you find disgusting? Like, what's your ick at weddings?
Chase Daniel
Wow, that's a great question.
Diana Rossini
Do you want me to take it first?
Chase Daniel
Yeah, you can. Sure. Because you obviously want.
Diana Rossini
Well, it just. It came right to me. I didn't have to think about it.
Chase Daniel
Okay, go.
Diana Rossini
It's when the speeches arrive. Oh, gosh.
Chase Daniel
Keep it short.
Diana Rossini
And the women always go up there. And, you know, Betsy is like a sister. Like, just tell me a story where she was an idiot. Tell me a story of. Makes me laugh. Embarrass her a little bit, but also share what makes you Betsy and Tommy so great.
Chase Daniel
Love me on the inside.
Diana Rossini
Yeah. Give me. Give me. Look for. For two people who talk a lot. Right. Like, just. Just get to the point. Which I'm sure people that are fans of the show constantly are saying that to us, but. Right. I think most people agree, like, I like a good speech, but, like, look, I've been. I've been to weddings where the speeches are so long, but if they're entertaining, you don't care. Most of the time, they're not going to be that.
Chase Daniel
Be entertaining and short. Be entertaining.
Diana Rossini
In short, entertaining. Have fun and get back on the dance.
Chase Daniel
Yeah, mine is. Okay. Yeah, mine is being overserved. Know your limit. Don't be sloppy.
Diana Rossini
Oh, when people get sloppy, don't be sloppy.
Chase Daniel
We had. We had some people at our. I'm not going to name. We had some people at our wedding that were. We didn't even see them because the bar was open while we were getting pictures, waiting, and they had to go home. So don't. Don't do that. It's not. It's not worth it. You're going to feel like crap the next day, and you're going to feel like crap. You're a bad friend.
Diana Rossini
Yeah. Sorry about that.
Chase Daniel
Don't embarrass yourself either. You know, don't. Don't people that get overserved that just don't know their limit.
Diana Rossini
I know, but I think everyone has been guilty of being overserved without intention. You've never done that before. Where you like, I am the queen. I'm talking. Drink is in my hand, and then it's like two hours.
Chase Daniel
You're 21, Diana. Yeah. Maybe you're 21. Sure. Everyone's done it.
Diana Rossini
This is what happens when you don't go out a lot. You forget how to act like an adult.
Chase Daniel
Too many martinis.
Diana Rossini
None of that. Speaking of martinis, that's what we'll be doing this weekend, hopefully to celebrate Sego de Mayo that came and went this past week. Actually, why would we have martinis? We'd have margaritas, right? All right, that'll do it for us. This was fun. I like the change. Let's do another mailbag. Hopefully maybe next month we'll do it again. So we will ask you guys once again to put in your questions and send them in. And and we love the variety. We love the support. Continue to subscribe. Check out our newsletter, the Scoop City newsletter. All of it will be there. We will see you guys next time.
