Welcome into Scoop City. I'm the athletic senior NFL Insider Diane Rossini. Do not forget to like subscribe to our YouTube channel Scoop City. Make sure you also subscribe wherever you listen to your podcast. Leave comments. We love reading them. Chase, you spent a lot of hours in our comment section. What's up bud?
Chase Daniel
What's going on? And I'm Chase Daniel, if you haven't noticed. 14 year NFL vet, now doing the media thing. I do spend a lot of time in the comment section and pretty good. 99% of the time it's positive. There's that 1% that like attack me and then there's that like 01% that says Diana needs to turn off her phone because of all the notifications. And I said, and I said it's definitely Diana, but that's her job, right?
Diana Rossini
Yeah, just bear with me on that. That's I'm sure there's a way I can figure out how to turn off sounds and alerts, but trust me, you would rather deal with the sounds in your ear right now or if you're watching than looking at me frustrated. I missed something because I've had A few of those recently, and I'm not fun to be around. Um, smelling salts are all. Are all the hype right now. Um, Chase, do you. Did you do that when you played? Did you smell those things?
Chase Daniel
Um, there would be a. This is actually a great story in most locker rooms. I don't know if people heard this. I'll say it quick. There used to be a Gatorade bottle, like a. Like a 24 ounce, like, glacier Freeze Gatorade bottle that they. Some people, I'm not going to say names, would wrap black pre wrap around it so you couldn't see what was in. And there was probably 50 smelling salts in there. And they would just shake it up, shake it up and go around. And there would be, like, this one dedicated guy that would go around to everybody before games, like, smell, smell, smell. In New Orleans, it was Jeremy Shockey. I'll say that because he's not anymore.
Diana Rossini
Shocking.
Chase Daniel
Shocking that it was Jeremy Shocky, but so not shocking. So other than that, like, no. Like, I know Baker Mayfield was on talking about how it's going to be a struggle for him, but then they came out and said that you can bring your own smelling salt. So byos the team just can't do it.
Diana Rossini
So I did it for the first time last season. I tried it. It's wild.
Chase Daniel
First time, you never did.
Diana Rossini
We didn't. In soccer, we didn't use that because, you know, we're elite athletes that were trained well and didn't need that extra punch of whatever the heck is in there. But I. I personally loved it because it. It is. It is a joke.
Chase Daniel
Gives you a jolt.
Diana Rossini
It gives you a joke. But it's. It's bizarre. It's definitely like a weird feeling.
Chase Daniel
It burned your sinuses. I guess in football you have to do it because you're dumb enough to hit heads, like, 75 times a game. So.
Diana Rossini
That's a good point. And. And we're dumb enough to tune into preseason games because that's what we're going to be doing because we've got three in the docket. And the reason why we actually care about this is because we've got studs playing at the quarterback position, or at least guys that we think could be studs. So we finally get a chance to see Shador Sanders on the field. Joe Burrow is going to be playing. We'll be able to check out all of AM fresh off a joint practice between the Commanders and the Patriots. We. We had scuffles and fights. We had some good football, too. We had celebrities on the sidelines, so Bloody lips. Before we jump into all the action that we're going to be seeing on TV in these preseason games, let's get right into it. I'll literally go through my notebook here and let's just talk about what I saw from Jaden Daniels and, and Drake May here. Here's what I'm hearing around the la. It was a star studded affair in Foxborough. Joint practice, had so many people on the sidelines. Jason Tatum walked out, everyone went nuts. It took me a second because, you know, I'm not like the biggest NBA fan. I'm like, wait, who's that? I'm like, oh, my God. Jesus.
Chase Daniel
Tatum with no, like, brace or cat or like anything. Right? What? He heard nothing. It was, that was like big news with Jon Bon Jovi.
Diana Rossini
Yeah.
Chase Daniel
Holding hands.
Diana Rossini
Oh, my gosh. No, it wasn't that. I was holding hands with him. Okay, so let me paint the picture. Okay. So first of all, in Foxborough, when you've got two teams. First of all, in any of these joint practices, they're taken very seriously because these teams really value this time. But Foxborough is so different since Belichick left. You know, they're. There's such a vibe there.
Chase Daniel
He looks smaller than you, by the way. John Bon Jovi.
Diana Rossini
Well, so I walk out and I'm on the sideline and I, I see, you know, obviously Patriots owner Robert Kraft walking out with Jon Bon Jovi and I start freaking out for obvious reasons. You have all like the New Jersey connections and it's John Bon Jovi. So I was with our colleague Mike Silver and he's like, let's just go say what's up. So we did and we went up talking to John and we talked about rest stops. Like, that's such a Jersey thing.
Chase Daniel
Like what? Like where you don't pump your gas.
Diana Rossini
Yeah, well, that too. I know you always make fun of it, but so I told. I love that. I say John. Like, we're really tight now. I told John that my dream is to. So when you land at Newark Airport and if you've ever landed in Newark, I hope you know what I'm talking about. There's this like, paint. It's like a portrait and it's actually a banner. It's a banner that's like, welcome back to New Jersey. We're proud of our own, you know, and it's paintings of the famous people from New Jersey. I just, I would love to achieve something big and get up there one day.
Chase Daniel
Like, who Would be Whitney Houston, Bond, Jovi.
Diana Rossini
Yeah. When Easton's from Elizabeth.
Chase Daniel
Who else is up there?
Diana Rossini
Well, obviously Bon Jovi's up there. Bruce Springsteen is up there. Connie Chung, Kelly Ripa. There's a section to the right of Kelly I could easily squeeze in if I do something big in the next few years.
Chase Daniel
Big dream.
Diana Rossini
So I was telling Bon Jovi this, and he knew what I was talking. He's like, wait, that's your dream?
Chase Daniel
Fly through the public terminal? How would he know that? He's in the present.
Diana Rossini
Oh, he was. He knew. And you just heard how I described it. Wasn't that interesting? He knew exactly what I was saying. And he's like, why aren't you dreaming bigger? Like a rest stop. I'm like, oh, my. Because he's got a rest stop. So at all the different rest stops on the New Jersey Turnpike, they're named after. And. And on the Garden State Parkway, they're named after New Jersey greats as well. And there's a Jon Bon Jovi rest stop.
Chase Daniel
What do you do at rest stops? Bathroom. Are there snacks?
Diana Rossini
Bathroom Food? Shake Shack coffee. You know, it's basic, but it's. It's a big deal to have that. So. He's right. He's right. I got to dream bigger. But yeah. Anyway, Danny Amadola was down there. It was awesome. It was definitely a high energy and a very crowded practice. So I hope. I just painted a picture of just a. A regular Wednesday afternoon with a lot of juice. Actually, how did.
Chase Daniel
How did Drake may look?
Diana Rossini
Cuz I've heard really good. Okay, so like, literally, this is my notebook. Like, I. I have my notebook because I was taking notes.
Chase Daniel
You have actual notebook work.
Diana Rossini
They have you up on a hill so you can see down on it. And you know, it goes. They weren't doing any 1v1s. They were just doing all 11v. 11. I'm sorry. That's such a soccer term.
Chase Daniel
That's exactly what it's called in football terms. That's exactly what we call it.
Diana Rossini
I've had this conversation with coaches before, and I'm always like, I'm saying that. It's just. I can't change my brain. It's just like how I look at the field.
Chase Daniel
Teach our viewers 11 verse. 11 means 11 guys on offense, 11 guys on defense. Full team drills.
Diana Rossini
So they didn't. So they just did the team drill. So I kind of wish I could show it to all. Drake is a stud. Huge future. Like, that was. That was my take.
Chase Daniel
Wait, that Drake is a Stud.
Diana Rossini
He just had really good pocket presence, good footwork. He was making some throws that were impressive. And. And maybe I went into camp with an attitude of. Of. He's got a lot to do still and a lot of growth, which he does just like any second year quarterback. But. But I liked what I saw.
Chase Daniel
McDaniels is helping that because I'm sure that's the biggest thing there, especially with Mike Brable, right. Defensive head coach, obviously, like CEO, but defensive, special teams. And then he brings back in Josh McDaniels. That has to be a relationship that you talked about, right?
Diana Rossini
Absolutely, we did. And I talked to Josh as well on the field. Just about what that's like coaching somebody this raw but yet has so much talent.
Chase Daniel
Yeah.
Diana Rossini
So the good news is we are going to head out to the Minnesota Patriots joint practice next week too, and I want to definitely dive more into Drake and maybe we'll even just do a whole conversation about Drake. Drake is going to join the show as well. So that. That'll be cool. So we'll ask him some of these things about how Josh has helped him and how it's. This playbook looks different compared to what he was doing last year. But in terms of like, offensive line, because that's. That's been the story. You know, it's like Drake May's growth and then the offensive line. I was talking to a coach on the ground during it and I just asked him blatantly, like, what do you think of this O line? And he's like, this was the best day they've ever had in camp. Like, the left side of us, really. He's like, the left side of our line is young, but these guys are fine. Like they are. They are right there.
Chase Daniel
Isn't it so crazy that, like, you can get so. And we did it in Denver. Right. Isn't it crazy? When you go to camp, it just feels different. The access is different. You feel a certain way about a team once you see them in person versus, like, gathering information like you normally do. Right?
Diana Rossini
Yeah. You, you. Because you're observing it. And then you have an opportunity to talk to people who are coaching up those units and. And find out, like, all right, like, are they doing the things they need to? And also they're there with them all the time. So how far along have they come? I can tell you the buzz on the ground there from the Patriots media is this O line doesn't look good yet. I felt like I left with a different attitude.
Chase Daniel
Interesting.
Diana Rossini
So we'll see if we'll see if. If I'm meeting my words come the regular season, and Drake is getting popped left and right, and they can't move the ball down the field.
Chase Daniel
What was the number one story you left in terms of raves? Like, what? What? Like, obviously the culture there. But there was a lot made about, you know, Mayo getting fired after a year and. And them going to him because they had him in mind. I mean, what kind of culture, obviously, like, is he bringing? Like, what's the one thing in your time there that stood out?
Diana Rossini
Accountability. It's accountability. He's. He's tough on these guys in. In the best possible way. He's definitely trying to establish what they're going to be and what their identity will be. And I can see. Does remind me of the Titans. It does. Like, it's. That's not surprising because that's where it's not right. They're scrappy, they're tough, they're smart, they're relentless. Let me just take you inside. So there's a player from the Patriots and a player from the Commanders, and. And they immediately kind of jump on each other. And Freebolt just comes out of nowhere like a WWE official, and he just dives face first and, like, gets. So it's like a sandwich, and he, like, gets in between them.
Chase Daniel
You saw this live?
Diana Rossini
Yeah. Everyone's going crazy.
Chase Daniel
Wow.
Diana Rossini
It was hard. Like, my vantage point was, because I'm not that tall, it was hard to see over the pile, so. But I saw Mike running across. Like, he didn't run even that far.
Chase Daniel
It was just guys.
Diana Rossini
It was first two guys, then everyone piled on over Mike. So there were guys like that. They were on the head coach, like, no one cared. Like, everyone was all in. And so Rabo comes up. Finally they all split, and. And he's got this gash on his face. And, you know, training. The trainers are running over, putting ice on and trying to help him out. He's. He was kind of laughing, and he wound up telling some guys on his team. He's like, oh, you should have seen the other guy, you know, doing that whole spiel. And he was running off, and I was chasing after him. I'm like, coach, you know, why'd you do that? Like, what are you. You're 50 years old. You know, what are you doing? And look, we know he's hands on. And he said, I just. I want him to know I got their back.
Chase Daniel
Players love that. That's what I said. Players love the fact that one. He played, right. He played at A high level. And when players can have, and we've talked about this a lot on this show, we, when players have that in their back pocket. Understanding that he knows what these guys are thinking, what they've been through physically, what they've been through mentally. The guys on the team, if, if it's like a guy like Graves, they want that accountability. They, they, they want you to not discipline them, but they want you to bring the best out of them. You can't just give in to every which way. And to have a head coach diving into a scrum head first and it's, you know, August, like, come on now. Like, guys.
Diana Rossini
Yeah, love that he's setting the tone. It's, it is so different there. I think they appreciate that he's gonna join Scoop Sydney next week too. So we, we got, we have a good all star cast next week. It's gonna be awesome. So on the commander side, okay. Jalen is so good. Chase.
Chase Daniel
Jaden.
Diana Rossini
Jaden is so good. First of all, he's just an all around superstar. Just watching him with the fans and he's so patient and kind. And by the way, Drake, Drake was too, but I, I was, I almost just followed Jaden around like a creep because I was observing him with everybody and he, he's just the guy that.
Chase Daniel
You used a tweet with aura with him yesterday that I'm sure we will drop in right now because Max. Awesome. And he's talking to who, Tatum?
Diana Rossini
Yes, talking to Jason Tatum.
Chase Daniel
And you used it. And I was like, you know what? It's like that one where that, that video, that aura farming. And I thought about that and I actually liked it. He does have a little bit of an aura around him.
Diana Rossini
He does, he, he's magnetic. They weren't running that much yesterday, so, like, I, it was hard for me to see what the real game looks like offensively. But like, my, my basic takeaway from watching them is the offense is clearly better than the defense in Washington right now. Right. Which is a great thing for them. And it, it should be. But they, they miss Terry McLaren. Okay. I, I, I knew it. Because we've talked about Terry here on the show and you and I've talked about Terry offline a lot. I saw it especially in red zone drills at the end of practice. Oh, yeah. Like, they need Terry. So I'm, they saw what I saw.
Chase Daniel
So with that, I mean, it seems like it's not in the news, so that's good. But it's, it's a real thing. That's Happening. Sometimes people forget about that stuff. Like, I've forgotten about it even though we, we, we talked about it last week. Like, do you feel any better, any worse about something getting done?
Diana Rossini
Yeah, I still believe something's going to get done. I still feel like both sides, 3.
Chase Daniel
Million, like DK, right?
Diana Rossini
Like, I, I, I don't think it's going to land that high. I think he's going to return to Washington. Something closer to what I think Washington sees his value at, at soon to be 30, which is in the high 20s. That, to me, is the number that makes sense from the Washington side, obviously, Obviously he wants more. He wants to be in the 30s for sure, you know. Okay, but what if I told you that they signed him for 30 APY? Like, are you.
Chase Daniel
I think it's a great deal for both.
Diana Rossini
I do too.
Chase Daniel
Like, like, I think it's, I would love to see a 3 in front of it. That, like, I, I think that is, like, Terry probably wants three more a year. The commanders want, you know, just say high 20s, 27, 20, 29. Like, just land at 30. Move on, get in camp. You don't want to miss too much of camp because that's when you get in shape.
Diana Rossini
Yeah. We'll see how this unfolds. I was talking to some people on the ground about that too. Like, they feel that they want him back. You know, like, why would you not.
Chase Daniel
Want a guy Seems like it'll end up in a good way.
Diana Rossini
I, I think it does. It's just I did somebody that would know on the ground was like, not, it's not happening like, the next few days, like, yeah, it's going to be a little bit of waste. But look, this is a good time of year for the player side of this, for these conversations to heat up, because in the joint practices, you're getting exposed, right? They're seeing a new defense, new looks out there, and they're like, okay, yep, this is real.
Chase Daniel
Like, we need our number one receiver. Imagine that.
Diana Rossini
Yeah, we, we need Terry. There's a reason why we respect him and love him and he's helped Jaden grow so much. But yeah, their defense definitely lacks playmakers and big and big names. I just think that Dan Quinn scheme that you know so well that we talk about scrappy, that thing has got to be in full effect this year for, in order for them to have success.
Chase Daniel
I mean, that, that, that sort of was an issue at the beginning of the year, and the commanders were on and off, and Jaden was running games by running the Football. And then down the stretch, right, it was just the offense that took off with Cliff Kingsbury. There is an averaging like 30 something points a game, like down the stretch. It will be interesting actually, that you brought that because I didn't even think about defense. No one thinks about defense when they think about commanders. I think about Bobby Wagner. Right. But like, I don't think about the defense. I think of Jaden, Jaden Daniels. So it'll be, it'll be interesting to see. Man, that's, that's a good.
Diana Rossini
So we'll say just from one day of watching joint practice, my takeaway from the Patriots is all around the young talent is good. I think the young guys are going to hold them up, which is great for when we talk about the future of the New England Patriots. And I think once they get Terry back for the commanders, I don't think that offense is gonna miss a step. In fact, I think they're gonna take a step forward this season just based on what I was able to see out there and just the swag that team has that they're fun. We're gonna be going to commander's camp too, actually at the end of the month to see them and hopefully talk to Jaden. So we're gonna be everywhere. We're scities everywhere. All right, so lot talk about these second year rookies. Excuse me, These second year quarterbacks. How about the rookies that we, that we're going to see debut here in the preseason, right? Cam Ward for the Titans. A lot of buzz about him. I had somebody in the media actually who's on the ground in Tennessee a lot was like, Cam's the real deal, man. Like, you're going to love this kid. So I can't wait to have him.
Chase Daniel
On the show about number one pick of all time.
Diana Rossini
I know it's.
Chase Daniel
And I want to talk about more.
Diana Rossini
I do, I want to talk about them. But obviously the one that's getting all the attention in terms of these rookie quarterbacks is Shador Sanders, who's going to get the start. The fifth round pick is going to be out there. Obviously, we know with the Rock, the quarterback roster with Joe Flacco on it and the injuries to Kenny Pickett and Dylan Gabriel, like this just makes a lot of sense to have Shador out there, despite the fact that I know there's a lot of people, I think, that believe that the Browns are playing some type of mind game that, that, that I don't think that's true.
Chase Daniel
I don't get it. And Mind game or not. Like, look, this is what it is. When you have two guys that are hurt, you. You sign Tyler Snoop Huntley, right? And those are. The two guys are going to play in the game. There's an injury. And coaches always say you can't lose a job due to injury. If you've never played a game in the NFL and you're rookie. This is a chance, and I'm not saying anything bad about Dylan Gable. This is a chance for Shador Sanders to show the world and show mainly his coaching staff and his team that preseason games matter. And I've been a big component of this, Diana, from the start. I've always said, I don't care what you do in practice. I don't care what you do in minicamp. I don't care what you do in training camp. I don't care what you do any. It's the games that matter. With coaches, it's. You're looking not only at production, right. That. That's probably the last thing that they're looking at. Can you get in and out of the huddle? How are you as a leader? What's your demeanor on the sideline? How do you handle your teammates? How do you handle adversity? All these things are going to happen and he's probably going to get a half or, or whatever. It's a great opportunity because if you do this and you look good and you continue building on it in preseason games, I'm not going to say he's going to be the starter because I don't think that's fair to anyone on that roster right now because he's number four on the depth chart. But what I do think is it will give him a, like a heads up on Dylan Gabriel to maybe get the three spot. And then I'm still convinced that I don't think they're going to have all four quarterbacks on the roster. I don't know what's going to happen, but I'm just not convinced of that. But a great opportunity for sure. For sure.
Diana Rossini
All right. So on Friday night when they play the Panthers and I'm watching that first half, let's just say it's me or just an untrained eye. Give me. Give me something that I want to see from Shador that tells me he's got a chance to make this team and contribute.
Chase Daniel
Yeah. Decision making, I think how quickly he's able to make decisions because this is the first time that he will be playing an NFL game, obviously. Right. College is one speed and Then the NFL is a completely different speed. It's going to take time, right. And until the game slows down, it's going to take just reps and experience and playing in game. So there's going to be some. Some mishaps and he's going to be playing against maybe some. Some ones and some twos, depending on how the coaches do to deal with it. So he's going to be playing. You know, not many starters don't think what the Browns are playing. He's gonna be playing with some backups, which is great. And so I'm going to be interested to see his decision making. Does he take sacks? Does he protect the football? I think those are all the things. Right. Like, sure, give me a highlight play here and there. That's not what the coaches want. The coaches want boring football, whether you like it or not. And you have to go out there and show them what you can. You can't go out there and impressed, though, anytime. I've been in situations in preseason games, which to me has been my super bowl throughout my career, because it's really the only chance you get to play. Sometimes in your mind, you feel like you have to do more than what's asked. But I found that I play a lot better when I just execute play to play. Don't worry about what happened last play. Don't worry about this and that. The stats really don't tell the whole story when they go back and watch the film the next day, hey, good decision. It didn't come out right where you wanted it or the defender made a good play. They're looking at decision making.
Diana Rossini
Yeah. All right. Well, our Jason Lloyd over at the Athletic put together a really good column about the Shador Sanders situation, what he's seen from camp, and basically just tells the world, everyone believe that this Cleveland Browns team is starting Shador Sanders because this is the way it should go. There's. There's no weird conspiracy here. It's nothing more, it's nothing less. They're just giving him an opportunity because that's just what the situation calls for at this moment. So Joe Burrow is coming off one of his best years. He was such a stud last year. Unfortunately, we know that defense struggled, but again, they always struggle at the start of the year. Head coach Zach Taylor even sharing that. We got to get off to a faster start. That's really been the theme of this training camp. So what are they doing? They're switching it up. The starters are going to be playing a lot more than what we've seen in the past. So we're gonna get a look at Joe Burrow against the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday night. So when you talk about wanting to see a team play faster at the start of the season, and I mean faster like actually on the field, but sort of find a rhythm earlier, what do you think Zach's gonna want from those guys when they're in action? And Joe's getting an opportunity playing preseason game one, which, yeah, it's almost unheard of.
Chase Daniel
I love it. And. And Zach Taylor is doing exactly what Andy Reid does with this Kansas City Chiefs. Pat Mahomes plays every preseason and sometimes plays in the second or third game he plays a half. And I think it's smart because the ramp up period, no matter who you are, if you're the best in the world or you're the worst in the world, you need those live bullets and actions. Obviously, everyone's worried about injury. All this stuff. You can get injured walking out of your house, right? And I think you look at the time that Zach Taylor's been the head coach for the Cincinnati Bengals in the first two weeks of the season, they are 1 11, 1 and 11. And you want to talk about playing in a hole, like the percent of chances of making the playoffs at 02. I'm not sure what it is, but it's low. And so I think based on the schedule they have, they have to do something. Like, what's the definition of insane? Are you doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results? No, you're going to get the same results. And I actually love the fact that they're playing. And Andy would do this. Andy Reid. I remember a story when Alex was playing in the preseason and I'm the backup, right? So I'm like, when am I going in? He didn't tell anyone that. He said, hey, the starters. And I think this was the second preseason game when there were still four. The starters are going to play a half. So Chase, you're going to start the second half. And I'm talking about from a perspective of Alex Smith. He went out there and he executed two perfect touchdown drives. I was in the game in eight minutes in the first quarter. So, like you can think you're going to do something, just show the offense that, hey, we're not. We're going to start fast, get two drives, get out of there, and then the coach and you are just going to feel a lot better. So, you know, you could say you play a quarter, you could say you play two quarters. It can change. Just give me two drives, Joe. Just like two scoring drives right off the bat and get the heck out of there.
Diana Rossini
Yeah, well, the Bengals, they finished nine and eight and missed the playoffs in back to back seasons after appearing of course, in back to back AFC championship games. So something needed to change. Right? And like you said, taking a page right from the Andy Reid playbook. Why not? They seem to have found success. Although you can argue the Chiefs have started slow too in years past. Right. Like they've got their own set of issues, which we'll see how that shakes out this year when we start doing some more chief stuff. They've been quiet, huh? I was talking with some people in the city. I'm like, I'm not talking about you enough. Tell me what's going on down there.
Chase Daniel
Silent Assassin.
Diana Rossini

Other restrictions apply. Well, back here on Scoop City, Patrick Surtan joined the show in the last episode. We aired that whole interview with him, and we had a lot of different headlines coming out of that interview. But without a doubt, I think the most buzzworthy conversation that, that now others are weighing in on are, is the list that Patrick Certain gave us of his top quarterbacks. Right. So if you didn't hear the interview, we'll remind you that. Or not remind you, but we'll let you know that Certain's top five quarterbacks was Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, Justin Herbert, Joe Burrow. No specific order.
Chase Daniel
You didn't put an order in. Yeah, I just want to make sure we get.
Diana Rossini
I know. I, I don't want to crush him on that. Certain. Sorry about that. I think a lot of people are taking like, that's the order you have here. He was just listing the top dogs in the league and we, we just were throwing it in an order for him. But I think naming the top five, I, I. It's fairly easy. Would you agree? Like, is that, is that list standard?
Chase Daniel
One through four is standard.
Diana Rossini
One through four is standard. That's fair.
Chase Daniel
I think 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10. Because we like to do things in tens. That's where it gets a little bit. Bit unsure, probably. I think 1 through 4 is like pretty normal.
Diana Rossini
I think that's good. So let. Why don't we do it? Why don't we do your list?
Chase Daniel
You hate lists.
Diana Rossini
I hate lists. This is a, this is one list I like because I do think people have such varied opinions on who falls where. And you study all of this all day long, and this is your expertise. So, yeah, I want to, I want to see what your list is. You want to just kind of rip through.
Chase Daniel
Yeah, I want to get your reaction to some of it and just like back and forth. I mean, I think, I think one, it's Patrick Mahomes for me. And he, to me, he's on another level. And people love to stat dive and people love to do this and that and another and say, well, if you look at these stats right here in these last two seasons, you know, compared to these guys over here, it's not even. I get that there's no one, in my opinion, on Mahomes level and, and it's his clutch gene. It's that he's on pace to win the most Super Bowls ever by a Quarterback, he's on pace to pass Tom Brady. He's on pace to do all these things. We were talking about for a while that the Chiefs were going to be the first team to ever three peat. Diana. It's never been done in the history game still. Right. So they were close. Eagles whooped their butts. I get that. And then the next three, it is so difficult and like I have Mahomes in a tier and then these next three, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson and Joe burrow in a tear to themselves and they're really close to Mahomes if you had to rank them. Like I'm putting the MVP Josh Allen at 2. I love that he can throw the football, run the football, he can do all this. And I think he meant more to his team last year than any other quarterback. So that's probably why I have him at 2. Lamar and Joe interchangeable for me. Literally. I, I really don't care where they're at. Both are excellent. Joe had his best year ever last year. I mean multiple completions, 460 completions. Led the NFL, 460 completions, almost 5, 000 passing yards, 43 passing touchdowns in 2024, not that many interceptions. That's where I went with probably. And then Lamar's two time mvp. Like you can't go wrong with the top four thoughts on those before I get to five because then this is where it gets crazy.
Diana Rossini
No, no, I, I'm in agreement. I'm fine. Even when Patrick shared with us Patrick certain what he thought I had, I had no issue because I hear them all the time. I think it's. I think it's cleaner th. Those are the clean ones. Now let's get saucy.
Chase Daniel
I don't hate list like you but in my like, like I think that for me at five I'm going Matthew Stafford, like I think he's probably one of the most underrated top five picks of all time. Like, like he's won a Super bowl and there's this whole thing right. Is Matthew Stafford going to be a Hall of Famer? Is it? I think he is. I think he's excellent now even though he had an epidural in his back which is freaking crazy when he's playing at the top of his game there might not be anyone better. Like just pure thrower of the football. What he means to that organization. That's five thoughts on that High low.
Diana Rossini
I think you're. I've heard it before. I don't hear it as, as much.
Chase Daniel
Yeah.
Diana Rossini
I, I'm dying right now to just see where you're putting Jalen. So I think I'm waiting for that more than. Than any of these because I know that that's the name that people like to pay attention to.
Chase Daniel
Jalen hurts.
Diana Rossini
Yep.
Chase Daniel
Okay, we'll get to him.
Diana Rossini
We'll get there. We. We ascertained that. I think it was me. I think I was like, Jalen.
Chase Daniel
He didn't put him. He didn't put him in his.
Diana Rossini
He. He actually didn't say anything. He. If you watch it back. He just. You hear me go.
Chase Daniel
So what is not saying something mean, Diana?
Diana Rossini
I'm not speaking for Mr. Certain. I will. I refuse.
Chase Daniel
All right, so number six, I think fives. I don't think many people are gonna disagree with that other than Philadelphia Eagles fans. Number six. I got Justin Herbert a little high. A little high. I think for some people. For me, one. Is there some bias? Yeah, I play with them and I understand his process. He had an exceptional year last year. Don't let the playoff game just for this conversation. The four interceptions, three were his or two were his fault, two were not his fault. Get you down. I think this is the year, though, where it's sort of. I don't want to say put up or shut up time, but he's got to win a playoff game this year. He's 0 and 2 in playoff games. I was part of the 1. We were up 28 points in Jacksonville. He has to. I get the critics out there saying that. I get. I think he's the perfect quarterback for Harbaugh. I think Harbaugh is. Is the perfect coach for Herbert. So a lot of. There's probably going to be a lot of strife there. Thoughts on that?
Diana Rossini
I just keep thinking about the idea that the best and greatest quarterbacks find ways to win, you know, and they don't. And.
Chase Daniel
Yeah.
Diana Rossini
What is it, in your opinion? Like what. Why can't the Chargers win with Justin Herbert?
Chase Daniel
Yeah, that's a great question. I. I think that there's a lot that goes into that question. I think that for them to be able to make the playoffs in year one of Harbaugh, when you look at that receiving core and what he did really in the second half of the year with a Rookie and lad McConkey, and that was really it. Quentin Johnson came on a little a banged up offensive line, both running backs out. I just think he actually took a step up in the second half of the year. He started throwing, I think, for like 275 yards a game after week eight. But I think for him you just have to get over the hump. I can't put my finger on one thing or another, but when your best is needed. He hasn't played his best.
Diana Rossini
Yeah. All right, next.
Chase Daniel
Jaden Daniels, number seven. I think Jaden, and we talked about him. We don't need to say much. I think Jaden, the way he plays the game is so fun to watch, especially as a young cat. He, I feel like his pulse level, Diana, I feel like it never gets above like 80. Like it just like consistently calm, cool, collected. He can beat you with his legs. Right. He's an extremely good runner of the football. What's more impressive to me, and I saw this coming out of lsu, he's a legitimate pocket passer when he needs to be. I've never seen a young guy go through progressions at a rate that he does. And I love the fact that he's, he's a, he's a force multiplier. He's not just the force. Right. Like you put him on this commander's team that no one thought was going to do anything. Who was the force multiplier? Without a doubt, it's Jaden Daniels. He took them to an NFC championship game his rookie year. Special, special for me.
Diana Rossini
And we, we talk about the sophomore slump so much with these rookies that had such success last year like him. And even the two rookie, the two second year quarterbacks I saw last saw on Wednesday, you know, I was thinking that like which of these two are going to probably deal with the sophomore slump? And I'll just speak on Jaden, I, I think with the coaching he has and that relationship he has with Cliff and his understanding of what they're asking of him, I could see him blowing through this, you know, and which is why I said earlier that I think they're going to take that next step. So he is the only second year quarterback you have on this list. Who do you have next?
Chase Daniel
Yeah, I got this was interchangeable, but I went with Jared Goff. I think he's probably the least talked about guy on this. I watched the Netflix show quarterback and first of all, super likable guy, like just like a true California dude, super laid back, but he sort of got ice in his veins. Like I like, I forget. And it wasn't even that long ago that the Detroit Lions defense last year was completely obliterated with injury. They were having to score like 40 points a game to be in games. And you throw five interceptions in the Houston Texans game and you still, you still find a way to win. I think he's, for me, a sneaky candidate in number eight.
Diana Rossini
Yeah. And I'm interested in this upcoming season. Without Ben Johnson there, they had such a strong relationship. Mike Silver wrote a great piece about them and, and sort of why they were able to find this marriage that just works so well. So Detroit in general, the coordinator, question mark for me of what happens to this team without Aaron Glenn and Ben Johnson. Something that, that, you know, I think is going to probably be the story coming out, coming out of the gate, at least for September. Right. Like, how are these adjustments made? How much do you think a coordinator really affects when we say this, are we, we're not overstating it?
Chase Daniel
No. And some people will say, oh, it doesn't matter. I think it matters because this is a quarterback driven league and the coordinator, the offensive corner, spends the most time with quarterback out of anyone. And so if they're not on the same page, it'll show on the field.
Diana Rossini
Yeah. All right, next, so we're at number nine now. I. So far, just to recap, I think you've been pretty, you've been pretty saucy with Herbert up there. I think that one is going to have people going, I don't know about that. You know, you have these wild opinions out there of him just because he hasn't won. But I like this. Jared1, Jared Goff1. It was sneaky in there. All right, so who do we got next?
Chase Daniel
Jalen hurts. I think that this is. You could probably slot jalen anywhere from seven to 10. I put him at nine. I think that there's a lot of talk out there that you're a Jalen hater. You're this and you're that. No, he's, he's a winner. Right. And he, he's able to win. I think that when I take into effect this list, I think that you have to take into effect the team that surrounds him. And I think that his team is a super team. Now, Jaden or Jalen is, is really good when his best is needed. Right. He's not always a force multiplier, but in the fourth quarter, in games, when he needs to be, whether it be with his legs, whether it be with his arm, he can do it. Now, it doesn't always look pretty, but he delivers. And you know, people are going to think he needs to be in the top five of the list. I just don't think that right now. I think he's had a really good career to this point, but when you throw for I think what, 2900 yards last year and not even 20 touchdowns. I know he had a lot. I just don't, I can't put him in, in the top five.
Diana Rossini
Yep. All right, let's wrap it up. Your final quarterback in your in the chase, Daniel top 10 list.
Chase Daniel
Yeah. Baker Mayfield. Let's go. Like I, I think Baker has tried. His career trajectory has skyrocketed since his year. Really? Year four or five games with Sean McVay. He's been excellent in Tampa. Back to back division champions. And the way he's able to play the game with those receivers down there, the timing, throws, the under center play action. He's really come into his own as a quarterback. I really like watching Baker and you look at just, I mean I'm not like a huge stat guy. You look at his just as pure stats the last two years. They're up there with anyone in these categories.
Diana Rossini
Yeah. The piece I'm interested in is going to be Mike Sandoz, quarterback tears. We love that he's going to come join Scoop City too. But that piece drops on Monday and basically he goes around the league talks to coaches, GMs, scouts and puts together the tiers of quarterbacks and what people around the league truly believe. So I can't wait.
Chase Daniel
I want to know where Jalen hurts falls in that.
Diana Rossini
Me too. That one, that one's always good. That one's always gets people talking. So I can't wait to break that up and break and dive into it and also compare it to, to what you have here. But I'm all good with your list. Your list isn't driving me crazy. Usually your list, I, I want to ring your neck, but this is why.
Chase Daniel
You act like I have, like, tell me if you, you can't say that without giving me an example evidence.
Diana Rossini
We did list last year when, before I voiced my concerns about doing lists because I didn't want to be like every other show we were, we were doing lists about like life things and I just like, I remember thinking, I don't think I've ever been so different than someone else.
Chase Daniel
Life is different than sports lists. People love sports lists.
Diana Rossini
They do, they do. I, I, I, I'm, I'm not fighting that people like that. I'm fighting that I don't enjoy doing them because there's no way to know. It's just an opinion. People like, we're gonna post this and I hope you guys do do this because we want you to do it. We're gonna go right to the comments section after this thing drops and people are going to be fighting with themselves over the fact that Hertz is not a top five quarterback. And you're gonna see.
Chase Daniel
That's good content, though, because, like, I don't, like, let me just preface this. Like, when I do lists or when I do analysis or when I do. It's not to get a reaction out of people because I do think that, that people think that I. I truly believe based on everything I've known and studied and people I've learned under, that I tried to do like the best job. Now is it right? It's so subjective. I don't know. Like, that's just how I feel based on my background of being coached by two hall of Fame coaches, playing with the hall of Fame quarterback and everything that goes into the position.
Diana Rossini
Well, it is. It is my son's fourth birthday. We gave him an Eagles jersey because, you know, the boys are big Eagles fans.
Chase Daniel
Happy birthday.
Diana Rossini
Which jersey do you think we gave him?
Chase Daniel
Saquon.
Diana Rossini
How'd you know that?
Chase Daniel
It's Saquon's super likable.
Diana Rossini
He had A.J. brown last year. We changed it up this year. I know, I still love AJ Actually, Joey has AJ Brown now, but yeah, he got, he got a Sequan. He got a Saquon jersey that he was begging to wear to school.
Chase Daniel
But let's go.
Diana Rossini
I said save it for camp. We're gonna take him to camp so he can go meet Saquon in person. Say hi and freak out. I'm sure still to come. Speaking of freaking out, everyone's freaking over out over Travis Hunter this weekend on both sides of the ball. Is he actually going to do this? Are we going to see him on both sides of the ball? All right, back here on Scoop City Jaguars rookie Travis Hunter is unlike any player that we've seen in recent years, right? Because we know he's been taking snaps on both sides of the ball. It's without a doubt the story coming out of Jackson and head coach Liam Cohen let the world know that we are going to see Travis Hunter in the preseason do just that. He is going to play both sides of the ball. Everyone's got an opinion about this. Most veterans, I feel like think that this is going to be impossible. A lot of the younger, newer players think there's no doubt he can get this done. Devonte Adams falls in the veteran group there, right? And so he recently shared his thoughts about it on the Pivot podcast on whether or not he truly believes Travis Hunter can pull off playing both sides.
Chase Daniel
You brought up Travis Hunter? Cause my thing with Travis, we had Travis on the show. It's crazy how athletic he is. Such a ridiculous sweet kid, such a stupid man. But going to lock up you next series now going to run routes against the Rams defense and then going to lock up you. Can somebody do that in the league? In college he did it, but my whole thing, I think he can do it, but I don't know if he can play. That's bruh. That's 120, 130 snaps a game. I don't even think it's possible to do for real, not at a high level. And then go in there. It's hard enough to go cover a punt and then be on one side and I haven't done it. I'm not acting like I'm on kickoff or punt, but I see the dudes and I know you got your guys and you see the yardage of my yardage over the over the game versus somebody that starts on offense and then plays special teams as well. Like that's just a lot of mileage, man. And I don't know how long. I'm not even concerned so much if he can do it over the course of a game or a season. It's more like how long is his career going to be if he's playing that many snaps because you just. All you're doing is doubling your risk for injury one. And I don't wish any of that on him. I hope that he can play an injury free season and go ball out. But I mean this is the reality. The more you on the field, the. Yeah, I mean it's already 100 injury guarantee. Yeah. You know, once you get out there playing both sides and now you got to tackle. You got, you got to tackle Derek Henry with that frame. Like, I mean he's athletic as hell, but the athleticism. He better do some ninja shit if you want to use that to get. It's a lot of football to play.
Diana Rossini
Doubt them all. Everyone's doubting them. And I do wonder if there's part of that element that is motivating him too. Of all right, no one thinks I can do this or a lot of people don't think I can. But I want to. I just think the question is, will it be smart? And I thought Devonte kind of painted a good picture there of this is gonna be a lot of wear and tear on you. A lot of football, you know. What do you think?
Chase Daniel
I think he painted a perfect picture. I. I don't think that take is wrong at all. I think it's really well thought out. I think he says it from one of the best receiver in a game. Like in devonte Adams. You can do it. Absolutely. You can do it. Are you going to be fresh? Will it be at a really high level on both sides? I've never seen it. I'm not doubting the guy. I don't think he can do it either. Like, can he play both ways? Yeah. Yeah. Can you be in meetings on both sides? Yeah, I don't think that's the issue. Can he practice? Yeah. I think the issue is you're covering guys like Jordan Jefferson or Justin Jefferson, Jamar Chase, Devonte Adams for 70 snaps a game and then you're going to go and you're going to run 80 routes. There's not 80. 80 plays on offense. And there is a conditioning level. He's in great conditioning. I think the bet, like from what I've heard, I think the best way to do it just looking at him on offense, I think you play him at offense full time because I think he impacts a game offensively way more than a corner will. Like you catch a touchdown in a game or you have a big third down catch, it just impacts a game way more than having two PBUs at corner right you get two plays, and I think you have a package for him. On defense, I think you have a package of 20 plays. Be like, hey, in third down and red zone two minute. You want to be out there. You. If you're one of our best three or four DBs, you're out there. I don't care if it's a safety. I don't care if it's a nickel. I don't care if it's outside corner. He's really good ball skills, but to do it every snap, I just don't think that's feasible.
Diana Rossini
Yeah, I. I think what you just laid out is probably closer to what it will look like when the season starts. We'll still say we'll see what they're going to decide here. In the end, when we go out to Minnesota for that joint practice between the Vikings and the Patriots, I want to ask Justin Jefferson and Stefan Diggs about.
Chase Daniel
Say the same thing.
Diana Rossini
I want to know if they'd be able to do it. Like, do you think you could do it, you know, if. If you had to, if you had the skill set of a corner? Because a lot of receivers think they can play that position. I've always. I've had conversations with all of them over the years of, like.
Chase Daniel
Positions to play.
Diana Rossini
I know it's so hard. It's so hard.
Chase Daniel
I mean, just cover a guy, you don't know where he's going. Just. Just follow him yet.
Diana Rossini
You've got some of them that are so talented. Teams are changing their entire game plan just to stay away from them. Think about being that good, right? Like, there's that good that teams are just avoiding you on defense. It's incredible. So a lot more to come from that story. We got a lot more news around the league. We still got the Holden's happening. No, no updates there at this point on Micah Parsons, Trey Hendrickson, and Of course, Terry McLaurin, which we mentioned. But we're gonna be staying on top of that for next week's episode as we get ready to head out to Minnesota and see what's going on with J.J. mcCarthy. I can't wait. I'm so excited to see J.J. in action. He's healthy. I've heard he's been up, he's been down. He's kind of been all over the place. But. But they. They like what they see there in Minnesota, so I can't wait to see that. Make sure you, like, subscribe, comment, all that stuff. We appreciate you guys. In a previous episode, Patrick Certain, a renowned defensive player, shared his top five quarterbacks:
Diana Rossini highlights the buzz surrounding These rankings, emphasizing their impact on NFL conversations.
Dianna Rossini [29:47]: "Patrick Mahomes for me is on another level. He's on pace to pass Tom Brady in Super Bowl victories."
Chase Daniel's Top Ten Quarterbacks
Chase Daniel offers his comprehensive list, providing insights and justifications for his choices:
Chase Daniel [30:53]: "Patrick Mahomes is on pace to win the most Super Bowls ever by a quarterback."
The hosts discuss the Cleveland Browns' decision to start Shedeur Sanders in the preseason due to injuries to Kenny Pickett and Dylan Gabriel. They explore the opportunity this presents for Sanders to prove himself.
Diana Rossini [20:15]: "Everyone believes the Browns are starting Shador Sanders because the situation calls for it."
Chase Daniel [20:29]: "This is a chance for Shador to show his decision-making and leadership on the field."
Joe Burrow is anticipated to perform strongly this season, building on his previous successes. The focus is on his ability to lead the Cincinnati Bengals to a faster start, addressing past defensive struggles.
Dianna Rossini [23:38]: "Joe Burrow is getting an opportunity to play in preseason game one, which is almost unheard of."
Chase Daniel [24:48]: "Zach Taylor is doing exactly what Andy Reid does with the Chiefs, ramping up the offense early to find a rhythm."
The joint practice between the Minnesota Vikings and the New England Patriots provided valuable insights into both teams' dynamics. Highlights include:
John Bon Jovi’s Presence: Dianna shares a light-hearted interaction with Jon Bon Jovi, adding a personal touch to the practice environment.

Chase Daniel [11:04]: "Teams feel things differently when they see them in person versus gathering information."
A significant topic is rookie Travis Hunter's unprecedented role of playing both offense and defense for the Jacksonville Jaguars. The hosts debate the feasibility and potential impact of this decision.
Dianna Rossini [46:45]: "Jaguars rookie Travis Hunter is unlike any player we've seen, playing both sides of the ball."
