Welcome into Scoop City on a Monday. I am James Palmer. We have a massive show for you. Diane Rossini will join us. Chase, Daniel, join us like they do every single Monday. We had a lot of answers I think on Sunday from week 11. Who's a pretender? Who's a contender? We got it. Make sure you like and subscribe. If you're watching this, smash that button. Come on. That's a term they use on the Internet. Make sure you keep an eye throughout the course of the show. We're going to talk about the Denver Broncos, the new number one seed in the afc. I was at that game. I'll tell you what went down. I'll tell you about the other side. We'll discuss that. Chase obviously knows these teams very well. What's next for the Chiefs as they're sitting outside the postseason at 5 and 5 and potentially could be a wild card team if they turn things around. That's interesting sentence to say. Lastly, we Have Josh Allen, six total touchdowns. Is this what the Bills need him to do, though, to be a contender in the postseason? We'll also obviously talk about that Seahawks and Rams game. Diana Chase, welcome aboard, guys. This was the week we were kind of waiting for, I think the matchups. We were kind of waiting for the caliber of games, Diana. We were waiting for.
Diane Rossini
Yes. I like when the, the action lives up to the hype. Right. Like we went into this weekend proclaiming that this was gonna be the best weekend of football. And it was. Right. Like we had some really, really good games. And look, I gotta tell you, I, I wasn't sure headed into these obviously how it would shake out, but I can tell you, if I had money on any of these games, I would have been a big loser.
Chase Daniel
Oh, really?
Diane Rossini
Because. Yeah, really. There were.
PURA Advertiser
Who's the.
James Palmer
Mikey's the big loser.
Chase Daniel
Yeah, Mikey's the big loser. I did a, I did a video and like on my phone. I never do picks, Diana, because I don't really like picks. I was 10 and 3 this week without the Dallas Cowboys one like the chart, like crazy. I know, right? Like, I never pick games, but I'm like, I saw some of these upsets coming. Not the Chargers Jacksonville game, which is nuts though.
James Palmer
Yeah. Interesting. It might be something you stick to. You might have to keep making picks for Diana. And I say here on Scoop City, we're going to move on to what we are hearing, Diana, because we have a lot of quarterback news to get. Get to.
Diane Rossini
Yeah, I feel like there was a lot of quarterback issues, injuries and changes here after week 11 headed into week 12. So let's begin in New York where. Look, I, I really don't think it's that big of a surprise. Right. With the New York jets getting a few days of rest coming off that Thursday night game. And we saw what Justin Fields has been doing this season and we saw some of the limitations against the New England Patriots. So they decided to, to bench their starter, a starter that they're, they're paying a lot of money too, as we know. So Tyrod Taylor will take over as the starting quarterback as the Jets. I think here they're, they're still, they're still in it from a space of trying to figure out where they want to be in terms of an organization. Right. I think whenever I've talked to other teams that have faced them this year, I know we're a little harder on them. I feel like their opponents give them so much more credit. They're like, they are right there they're not as bad as you think. So I wonder if that's how it feels internally and if maybe they feel like Tyrod Taylor can give him that.
James Palmer
Moving on to Pittsburgh and a former jets quarterback, Diana Aaron Rodgers. The fracture on what the left wrist. Are we going to see him next week? I know he wants to play.
Diane Rossini
Yeah, we are still waiting to find out what the, these test results are going to show. Hopefully when you guys are watching or listening to this at home or in the car even, we have more answers. But as of right now, I can tell you talking to some people with the Steelers, they don't want to like show any sign yet of what it is. I, I, they're, they're sort of bracing but they feel hopeful. So we'll see how serious this is over the next few hours. We'll get more information to see if it's a fracture, a break and how serious it is.
Chase Daniel
Yeah.
James Palmer
And then we have a big one in Atlanta. It seems like the Falcons could be without their second year quarterback, Michael Penck Jr. For perhaps the course of the rest of the season. My understanding is it's believed to be a partial ACL tear and so this could obviously sideline their, their signal caller, Diana, for the, of the course of this season and in Atlanta that has gone up and down and I think we're going to have a lot of eyeballs maybe down there as this season kind of comes to a close and a disappointing one at that right now.
Diane Rossini
Yeah, disappointing. Weird. Obviously the, the main moves in the off season to beef up a defense and look, I think there were moments this season already that we can look back on where I thought the Falcons had enough talent to be really good. In fact, I talked to a defensive coordinator who played them recently and he said to me if we had their players we would be so much better than what we, oh no, it's just like pure, just wow, you know, admiration for what their team looks like in terms of a skill set. And look that, that tells you then they're underperforming. Right. And if people around the league are looking at them going, they've got some studs on their team and they're, they're not able to figure it out. And Michael Penix, you know, just in my opinion, gave them their best chance. I think we've seen Kirk Cousins enough, right. To know that it's, it's just, I don't think he gives him a good opportunity here to, to try to crawl back in this thing.
James Palmer
We're talking about second Year quarterbacks. Let's talk about one that just pulled off a massive win in Denver. I was there for Bonix to take down Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes, 2219, a new number one seed in the AFC. Let's break this game down. I'm going to tell you and set the stage for both of you before we get into it. I was at that stadium. I'm a stadium lurker, as Diana always says. I'm kind of always there before the, this game starts. I see my homes and everybody coming off the bus and I'm talking to some people on that staff and the vibes in the building start to be chased like, this is going to be a Chiefs win. What was your vibe going into this game and when did you start getting that switch to going? No, no, no. Denver can legitimately really win this game for sure.
Chase Daniel
Yeah. I mean, look, I picked the Chiefs to win, to be completely honest with you. And so that was one of the few picks that I was, that I was wrong on. And the reason I put pick Kansas City is just because I felt they were the more desperate team. And in games like this, usually the more desperate team wins. However, hearing what you're saying and hearing the vibe, I mean, look, this was. We knew this was going to be one for the ages. And it was, it was one of those like classic AFC west matchups that was just like defense and then who can score field goals, who can actually score a touchdown, who can do this? And, and to be honest with you, I feel the same way as, as Garrett Bowles did and Diane and I and obviously you covering the Broncos. We've been around this team on Scoop City a lot. We know, I know Sean Payton and I know that entire staff. It's like New Orleans West. We keep saying that there's just something in the water there, man, that when games are needing to be won, they just make the right plays at the right time. Look, we, we've said this before, and I'm going to continue to say it, James. The Broncos are 9 and 2. They could very, very easily be 11. And now like, like you're talking about a play or two in the Chargers game and then one play in the Colts game that they could be undefeated. And look, it's not always great about how you, how you win or how you don't, but there is something to be said about callousing a team. And that's what Sean Payton used to always talk about. In fact, it's what Andy Reid used to talk about. It's like, hey, I don't win. We're going to continually get better. As long as we can find ways to win, then that's all that matters. And I know there's been a lot talked about with Bo Nixon, and rightfully so, because, look, I've been critical about him at times over the last four or five games because quite honestly, James, he has not seen the field well at all in the first three quarters of games. And I know he's clutch in the fourth quarter, and you can't have that happen in playoffs because sometimes you just need to play a really solid entire game. And I felt like for the first time this year, Bo Nix really was solid the entire game. Like that throw Detroit Franklin on third down and get him into field goal range. That is a very high pressure, low percentage throw. And he put it exactly where it needed to be. He's not looking at Sutton. He's not looking at all these guys. He's looking at Troy Franklin. And I just think that sort of embodies the Broncos. And look, this team is always going to have a chance, like with the way their defense is playing. However. However, at some point this year, the offense is going to have to win a game, whether it's in the playoffs, whether it's going in. They're going to have to, like, at some point, they're going to give up 28 points on defense and they're going to have to score 30 points to win a game. I just don't know if they're at that spot right now to be able to do that. And so I think the world in the NFL, that's what they see instead of seeing, like, hey, they're winning games that they should win.
James Palmer
Yeah, I think that's a great point. It was, you know, sitting up in that press box. Chase, the whole group is talking. Patrick Mahomes comes out in the second half with two opportunities to take the lead, and you're like, well, they're going to march down. They go three and out on both of those drives, Kansas City, just like, those aren't things you see happen with the Patrick Mahomes offense. Before we move to the Chiefs, I do have this final question. Ask. You mentioned the way they're playing. One touchdown in this game. They've won, you know, three straight games by three points. Roughly. Like, is this sustainable in today's NFL? Great defense, difficulties moving the football through the curse of four quarters, but maybe you make plays at the right moments. Can you be a. A team that makes a playoff run Playing that way and are there aspects chase within this offense that you go, but wait, they're almost there in maybe this or this. And then we could say this is a really dangerous team if those things happen.
Chase Daniel
Yeah, that's a great question. I think overall in general, the answer would be no. You can't rely on just one unit. Right. You got to rely on special teams which we're not talking about. Will Lutz enough like he's making some outstanding big time kicks, has been outstanding and for all intents and purposes, the entire special teams unit for the most part for the Broncos has been outstanding in my opinion. The defense I would probably say is the best or one of the top two or three defenses overall in the fly and they're doing it without two of their stud players which hopefully they're going to get back. And so you can rely on that. But like I was saying, at some point you have to play all three phases to get like when you need it the most. Like you can get to the playoffs playing like this and just kicking field goals and just doing that. You can do that. But the Broncos want to do more than just get to the playoffs. Like could you imagine what the path would be like to go through in power field? I almost called it mile high because I still think it's awesome in power field as the 1 seed power field at mile. Like yeah, yeah. Power field at my like could you imagine what they like that defense in a cold weather environment? My thing and it's sort of, it sort of sucks and it's just is what it is is like they have to get a run game going and J.K. dobbins injury, forget about the defensive injuries. That to me is the most important injury right now. That's going to be a huge loss. How do they, how do they figure out one, how to get Bo Nix going and legs wise and two, RJ Harvey, he's going to have to have a big time rest of the year. Like he's going to have to grow it fast. He's going to have to get under center. He's going to have to run and do some stuff maybe he's never done before. They have to, whether it's jet sweeps, you have to get 100 yards rushing game. Like you have to somehow whether it's bow running for 40 yards a game and saying hey, you need to take off a little bit more 60 yards from the back, you just, you cannot become one dimensional.
James Palmer
Yep, exactly right. Listen, if that J.K. dobbins injury happens four days sooner they're probably trading for a running back, in all honesty.
Chase Daniel
No doubt.
James Palmer
But now it's going to be R.J. harvey and, and Jaleel McL Laughlin, who's been a healthy scratch for most of this season, now steps into that other side of things. We welcome back Diane Rossini who's always just, you know, breaking news. Do you have anything for us right now? Before we move to the Chiefs, what.
Diane Rossini
Was our favorite thing that Sean Payton shared with us this summer? The weapon that they have for Bonix is the run game, right? Like, that was something that they wanted to build this entire thing around. So guess what? You take away that weapon or if that weapon's not performing, that's not going to help Denver and they know it. James, just for, for those listening, you work a locker room better than any human I've ever been around. And when I say work a locker room, it's like you have a twin or a triplet. You're. He's in like all these places at once. Because one of the hardest parts chase about working locker room as a reporter is you have a very short amount of time and you have to hit as many people as possible to talk to him about all different things. So again, I get stuck like with one person because I talk too much. James is like, imagine that working. Listen. So James, with that I want to hear like, I know you hit both, but can you paint a little picture for us of the locker rooms?
James Palmer
Yeah, let's switch over to Kansas City because we know that Sean's going to keep that locker room in Denver close for a good amount of time. You got the strobe lights, you got the smoke, you got all the stuff, the dance party that's going on there. There's Sean loves after a win. So I'm like, okay, I got plenty of time to hit this Broncos locker room. And they're going into a buy. Some guys are going to linger, they're stoked, they're relaxing. So I go to the Chiefs locker room and guys, I obviously, you know, I've covered this team a ton in Kansas City and that was a different locker room than I'm used to seeing. Mahomes in the corner, in the front corner locker, just fully dressed with a towel over his head for an eternity. Nobody near him, nobody talking to him, just sitting there. And it wasn't even like guys in that room were angry or kind of like, kind of. You know, some guys get in a corner, you know, this chase in a locker room and they're kind of Talking about what went wrong. Everybody was just kind of the latest talk to guys like say, HP or George Caroloftis or Chris Jones, you know, kind of hitting all these guys that I've known for a long time. It's the vibe is this. Their mindset is just, we got to get in now. That's the only thing they're thinking about, like, how do we get into the postseason then if we get in? Like, we know we can make noise when we get there, but what a different mindset from what we've seen year after year in Kansas City. Now that guys are just going, we just got to find a way to get into the postseason. Then we know when we can make some noise. It's just a very different feel in that room than I've seen in years past with, with the Kansas City Chiefs. And. And I'm just. You've been around that team Chase so like it. I know that's. That's a little jarring, but at the same time, they're. They're not playing terrible, but they're not playing the way we're used to seeing them play.
Chase Daniel
Yeah, I mean, look, offensively for a while they were playing really well, and defensively they're still not playing. It's like I. You try to pinpoint the problems that Casey has had this year and quite honestly, it' hard at times because, look, they don't have a run game. The defensive line's not getting pressure as much as they. As they would like. Like, I get all of that. However, they're just not winning the close games. They're just not making the plays that Kansas City is used to making in the clutch as they have for the entire time Patrick Mahomes has been there. They're owing five and one score games this year. I mean, there it is like there's they're five and five, they're zero and five in one score games. And so you're not finishing at times. And I don't know if it's necessarily not them finishing at times, which it is, or more so like everyone that they play just being so super hyper aware of what has made Kansas City so great and maybe taking away some things in each game. Like you could point to in five games, James, and you could point to 10 plays that didn't go the Chiefs way that are a difference between 5 and 5 and 10 and out. Like not all of them have been great, but you can really point to. And that's really the case for all these teams. Like, you can point the Broncos Too, like, well, they're two, three plays away from being 11 and oh, and it's just everyone in these situations and I remember when I was in LA playing the Chiefs and we were in these tight games, it was like, man, it was just like known like, hey, they're going to always make the play and like, we're going to try our best, but they're just always going to make the play. Now it's sort of flipped to where, hey, okay, they're 0 and 5. They're not always making the play. It gives you on the other sideline when you are playing them. Okay, as long as we can keep this game close, which really all of their games have been, we got a chance to win.
James Palmer
Diana, does that mean that that fear is gone, do you think, from other teams after watching the super bowl and saying these close games, like, do you think that fear of the Chiefs in those close games where you just feel like they're going to pull it out is, is maybe gone right now?
Diane Rossini
I don't, I don't. I don't. I still think Patrick Mahomes, even though we, we've painted a picture here where they've struggled and he doesn't look as good as he normally does and he even owned it after the game, that it's on him. I think everyone knows it's still in there and I. It's so difficult to count out the Chiefs. It's still only November, right? Like, I mean, I say only, but it's like it's not even Thanksgiving yet. I don't think anyone here is, is discounting what the Kansas City Chiefs can still. They're just not. Not yet. I just, I just don't.
James Palmer
Yeah, I think that's why everybody's so happy right now. They're sitting here going, if there's a chance they're not in the postseason, we're. We could not be happy. They just don't want to play them. They're just hoping something happens. If this continues exactly the one note I will say talking to people in that Chiefs locker room, the depth has been a bit of an issue. Chris Jones is at 31, playing more snaps than he's ever played before. And I think we're seeing an impact. Maybe those game changing plays that he can make through the course of a game when he is playing just at an insane number of snaps compared to what he's done in the past. It's difficult up front when they're lacking little as George Carloft is playing with a broken thumb. It's It's a little bit different up front. The other monster game this is, we're, we're really, we're really covering it all here. Lions, Eagles Sunday night Philadelphia survives 16 to nine and they remain in a very obviously a stranglehold on the NFC east, but also on the NFC and where they're heading. We'll get to the Rams who are right up there with them as well. But one thing that this game taught me, and I know we talk about the offense, but I'm going to start on the other side of the ball. We'll get to Diana's article and everything that's happening on that side because before this show, guys, we talked about it. We got to mention this Eagles defense, like this is, this is an unbelievable unit right now. And Diana, you talked so much about Jalen Phillips and getting into that building and knowing Vic Fangio, but have you seen a mid season trade work out this well?
Capital One Bank Guy
Yeah.
James Palmer
This quickly like Jalen Phillips and what it's done for this defense.
Diane Rossini
Do you think Howie just looks in the mirror in the morning like I just know and I can tell you that other teams that were in on Jalen Phillips too, that called are looking at that situation going well. At least we were onto the right thing that, that he can still play. And also, by the way, just another example of taking a player from one environment and putting him and surrounding him with a lot of winners, how great and how much they can rise to that level. Not, you know, because Jalen Phillips was obviously very good in Miami, but this version of him stands out. So yeah, just the fact that he's. That familiarity with Vic Fangio and that the defense was completely relied on yesterday, I don't know and I know we're going to touch on the lines. I don't know if this was just a result of this defense just being just absolutely monsters or this was Jared Goff just struggling, you know, and, and, and I just think that if this defense can play at this level, none of the stuff we're talking about on offense is going to be a problem in the postseason. Because that, that's the story in Philly. Right. It's like, oh, this offense is. We win, but we're not great. You may not have to be. Not if they play like this.
James Palmer
Was it the defense or was it golf? Chase.
Diane Rossini
Chase. You don't believe, you don't agree with me?
Chase Daniel
Well, well, let me, let me just answer today and I believe in you what you were saying, but think that it's very at some point The Eagles offense is going to have to get going. Like, at some point, they're going to have to put drive after drive after drive together, and they've done it when they can. And Siriana came out and said, hey, you know, just, we. There's something to be said about this group. It's going to be ugly. And if they, if they get into a shootout with teams, they. They can't win, they can't win. And unfortunately, it just puts so much pressure on your defense to play really well that I do think at some point, like, they got to fix their issues in offense because it is. It is bad. And James, to your point, is it golf or the defense? I think it was a defense. Like, like Vic Fangio. To me, he's one of the most difficult defensive coordinators to play. And I'll tell you a couple reasons. One, well, he. He obviously look at the players. He has, right? Like, the players are great. However, he puts them in the right position at every point. Like, he rarely pressures. And so from an offensive standpoint, when you're playing a team that pressures a lot, you actually like it because there's more chances for big plays down the field, and there's more chances for defenders to be out of gaps, and there's more chances and holes in the secondary because you're. You're blitzing six. You only have five in the secondary. What's really difficult as a quarterback, especially for someone like golf or someone that's done it a long time and it's used to getting explosive plays in the pass game, is staying patient. Like, it's just, you have to stay patient versus a Vic Fangio team because all they do is they sit in quarters coverage, which means everyone, a corner, a safety, a safety in a corner, they have the deep quarters of the quarters of the field, the deep, like, half of the field, and then you have four guys or three guys underneath. And so you have to be real patient with your tight end. You have to be real patient with your running back in the pass game. And then for a team that tackles that well, there's just not a lot of chances for big plays. And so he just really frustrates you as an offensive guy, because at some point you get frustrated, at some point you get impatient, at some point you want to take shots down the field. And, you know, especially with how they're playing on money downs, third and fourth down, it's just really frustrating. So I think it's more defense and golf, and they're just. They're. They're frustrating. They're frustrating offenses right now. It's just, it's impressive to watch.
James Palmer
We're talking about two very similar situations of the two teams that are atop the NFL in the Eagles and the Broncos. We're talking about a dominant defense with questions about how this offense operates. To me, then I start looking at the players. I would trust Philly more than Denver. When I look at A.J. brown, Saquon Barkley, Devonte Smith, Dallas Goddard, Jalen hurts that offensive line. Wouldn't you think then they would have a greater chance of putting things together on the back half of the season offensively than maybe say Denver. But it's interesting because they're almost exactly in the same sit.
Diane Rossini
I do have more belief just from a talent perspective, like matching the Philadelphia Eagles up to the Denver Broncos. But with Lane Johnson now he's going to be out four to six weeks with an injury. We know how different this Eagles team is when Lane is on the field compared to when he's not. And it just, I feel like the formula this year for this Eagles team and they're able to overcome it, which is tremendous. But it's a beat up O line, an okay run game, which then affects the passing game. And that's where I think a lot of these frustrations have bubbled up. And we heard A.J. brown last week venting about his frustrations about not having enough participation in this offense collectively. I know he didn't. He was pretty supportive, I think after the game on Sunday night about what they are doing, what they're trying to do. I can't imagine how difficult this is to even just manage. Right. Because there's obviously some limitations, right. That you can't make Jalen be something he doesn't want to be and he's not comfortable being. And I think that's where the rub is on this of how are we going to get a passing game to be and look and take advantage of the talent that they have in these receivers if maybe the quarterback doesn't want to run the offense that way. But it's hard to argue because they win and that's all that matters. And that's probably why this has become one of the bigger stories in the NFL, because they're complaining, but who cares?
James Palmer
Yeah, exactly. Right. I think he's been held under 200 passing yards six times this season. But they are winning football games. We're going to talk about something. We put a bunch of numbers coming up here on Scoop City on a Monday. That's Josh Allen, three rushing touchdowns three passing touchdowns. But is it the type of effort that they're going to need week in and week out?
Capital One Bank Guy
Is that possible?
James Palmer
Chase is going to break that down. Next on Scoop Suit.

All right, welcome back to Scoop City on a Monday. James Palmer, Diane Rossini, Chase, Daniel with you. We saw if you had him or faced him in fantasy. Congrats or I'm sorry, Josh Allen puts up six total touchdowns. So we're going to cut to the chase here. Chase, as we saw in just an unbelievable, heroic, Herculean performance from the big man, the reigning mvp. The issue is for this offense to operate, does he need to play like that with the issues that they've had in the past game and the way that we've seen the run game go up and down, even though they're still number one in rushing in the NFL?
Chase Daniel
Yeah, look, before we get in to the film, I agree with you, James. Like, you have to play like Superman now if you're Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills to win, because defensively they aren't as good as they have been in the past. And offensively when there is no run game, we said this last week, when there's no run game, Josh has to rely on his superman making ability. And he did throw some interceptions. But it's also as we get into the play and it's plays like this that really make a difference. Like, so you're going to see right here, all they're doing is they get. They get lined up and empty Josh, hey, can. Can. Which means, hey, we're switching plays. There's nothing open. They're running quick game. They're running a bubble to the right and a stick route to the left. But just count. It's like 1001, 1002, 1003, a thousand. It's like eight seconds to throw. And so I think that's really what's frustrating teams. And we've seen, like, we're not showing the bad of Josh. There were some bad of things, but he looks left, he looks right. He scrambled up. No, let's go back left and let's go. And then. And then to be able to throw a ball like this, going to your left, going to your left, and you throw it over 50 yards into the field. Like, there's so much stuff going on in his head and. And could he have taken the sick route to the left right there? Yeah, but he said, you know what, they're only rushing three and when they rush three, that means they can't get to me. I got five guys to do it. And you make throws like this. And yes, it looks good in the highlights and. And James, yes, it looks good and stuff like that, but they got to get more consistency out of the run game because defensively they're not doing a lot of stuff. They. The Miami Dolphins sort of found them out a little bit, and I think the Buccaneers. The Buccaneers did some stuff in that first half that Miami did, and they made some adjustments moving forward, but, like, you got to get Superman, Josh, for them to play the way they're playing. And I said this last week, I don't know if I felt worse about a good team than I did after they lost to the Dolphins and they beat a good Bucks team, an injured Bucks team. But this can't happen and continue to happen if the Bills want to win a lot of these games.
Diane Rossini
I think the situation with Keon Coleman obviously played into this. And what I do find. Chase, I don't know how you see this, but the way they looked at times on offense compared to when Coleman is on the field, I felt that you could make an argument they were better. Like, look, they're not going to sit him.
PURA Advertiser
I get that.
Diane Rossini
Like, that's not going to happen. But have you seen that before where sometimes maybe, like, there's a. There's a factor because they feel that they have to step up, they do different things better. I don't know. Like, do you see what I'm trying to say of, like.
Chase Daniel
Yeah, I do think. No, that's right. I don't think he's a problem either. I do. I do think. I know what you're saying is like, hey, when you have certain guys that maybe should make this offense go and he should be your quote, unquote, number one and number two receiver, and you have a disciplinary setting or whatever it may be, you know, we heard. Heard some of their guys talk about it, and he's not sitting. I do think it brings a little bit of accountability to the offense. Be like, oh, I got to get on my game. I got to do this. I don't necessarily think it's him as, like, no one thinks he's the problem because it's. It's crazy to think that if so because. But it does bring this level to accountability of like, do your freaking job and we can win without you, buddy. Like, this is the NFL. This is Sean McDermott. He's a disciplinarian at heart. He loves you, but, like, he has no issue doing that. And they were able to win against a. A crazy Bucks defense that blitzes every which way. And so I do think it just, it, it. It maybe opens eyes in the locker room a little bit.
James Palmer
Well, yeah, we'll see what happens moving forward Open some eyes. Okay. Okay. Well, there were some eyes on Shador Sanders Chase as he made his NFL debut. Sitting in the press box of that Broncos and Chiefs game. It was kind of like the buzz down the grape line. Everybody was like, hey, Shador's in.
PURA Advertiser
Hey.
James Palmer
She goes in.
Diane Rossini
Hey.
James Palmer
Obviously, see, you's right up the road. So obviously everybody's very fascinated with it. It did not go great. 4 of 16, 47 yards, 2 sacks for an eternity, and they come up short. But I think that the focus of this is more on where he's at and where the perception of where he's at. And you were included In a Luke McCown tweet, your name specifically thrown in there because you're the man. And I think Luke really put some, some balls on, on what Chador's situation is. And can you clear that up for everyone? Because everybody's debating, is he getting enough reps? Is he, was he properly prepared? Why isn't he taking first team reps? You know better than anybody, what is his week like in Cleveland?
Chase Daniel
Yeah, I mean, look, I would. I think Luke put it perfectly. And then Brian Hoyer chimed in and Orlowski, and of course all the backup quarterbacks unite.
James Palmer
Right?
Chase Daniel
Like we were back in what we're doing. We got a frat, we got, we got to stay close, close. You know, it's these 10 plus year backup quarterbacks that got to stick close. I thought Luke said it perfectly. And for anyone who didn't see the tweet, I'm sure we'll flash it up here at some point. But he pretty much was saying what everyone does not know that doesn't cover the league. And there's a lot of Shador fans that are pop culture entertainment fans that know nothing about football. And that's totally fine. I like that more. Bring more to football. That's. That's totally fine. And so what I think this tweet did is it let people know that like the backup quarterback, we get zero reps during the week with the ones. Let that sink in there. There's, there's zero reps with the ones, meaning the starting quarterback, Dylan Gabriel, he gets every single rep on a Wednesday, practice on a Thursday, practice on a Friday, practice on a Wednesday walkthrough on a Thursday walkthrough, on a Friday walkthrough, on a Saturday walkthrough, he gets all the reps because the starter has to be prepared to play. And while that starter is the ones is going against the scout team defense, Chador on the other Hand they flip periods. So you might have a 10 play period for Cleveland's offense and you're gonna have a 10 play period for Cleveland's defense. And when Cleveland's defense is out there, the number ones with Miles Garrett trotting out there, which is he's another beast of, of, of a guy. Shador Sanders and the backup quarterbacks for really it could be whoever it is, they are running the scout team. So they are running the twos and the threes for that team. So if you're playing the Baltimore Ravens, Shador Sanders for all intents and purposes is Lamar Jackson. A couple things to get around. That is one, and I'm sure Shador has done this or will do this is I would always stay after practice and I would always get with the backup quarterback coach or the quarterback coach or the, or the offense analyst and we would walk through the entire one's script, meaning the Cleveland offenses script. And so I would at least in my mind get through the footwork. I maybe not get a throw on air, but I would be able to see it in my mind be like okay, here's versus coverage, here's where's that coverage? And I would walk through an entire practice of that. And so hopefully he's doing that or hopefully he will do that. But it's just hard to really grasped grasp the difficulty level and everything that goes into playing a backup quarter. This isn't even this, this is a Shador Sanders conversation because it is about Shador. This could be for any backup quarterback that plays and just how difficult it is.
Diane Rossini
That's what I hear too when you're saying it like this isn't any. They're not holding Chador back. This is just the way the NFL goes. When Jackson Dart was the backup quarterback in New York, he was doing exactly what you just said. He was staying at the practice with Jamis going through the script. Because I remember when I was talking to people with the Giants organization about how ready Jackson Dart was, they were like, well, he's doing the work plus some because he has to learn how to be a starter and that's the closest you can get. And, and I don't know if Shador is doing that, but I would assume so.
Chase Daniel
Yeah.
Diane Rossini
The, the, his rap in the, in the building is that he is a hard worker. So I, I wouldn't put it past him being out there doing that.
Chase Daniel
And here's the thing too about Zach or and we have some film and I do want to show this before we move on because this is what Zach Orr did, the defense recorder for the Ravens. He literally, as soon as Shador came in, he. He threw the craziest blitz packages that I've ever seen. There's eight guys at the ball in every third down. It was like this. Where are they coming from? Where are they doing? You see Kyle Hamilton pick for Calvin Noye and then Jerry Judy. First of all, like, first of all, let me just say Shador should not have thrown this football, like, at all. But I want you to watch 14 and I want you to watch Calvin Noy on the left of your screen. They're going to a pick stunt. He gets absolutely hammered in the wrist ribs. However, Jerry Judy stops running. Jerry Judy should run an out route. He runs a curl route. Not sure why. And Shador is trusting his guy to be there. Now, I think he should have checked the ball down to 83. But there was multiple ways and times during this game that there's three Cleveland offensive linemen on one defensive tackle on the. On the left of the screen, and then there's four guys blocking three on the other and they were able to get home. I'm telling you, like I have been in the league. I was in the league for a long time. The amount of pressure packages that the Ravens defensive quarter. Zach. Or was bringing as soon as Shador Sanders got into the game to confuse him. Like, I, I haven't seen some of them. And so it just. Odds are stacked against you. You're. You're not in these protection meetings. And so look, can sure get better. Yes. Was it all his fault? No. Did he play bad? Yes. Does he need to play better? Yes. All multiple things about Shador can be true. True.
James Palmer
Yeah. Well, Kyle Hamilton flashed it. He did it after the sack. My guy might be defensive player of the year as he broke through. He's been playing outstanding for that Ravens defense. Listen, we're going to get to the Sunday scaries coming up here on Scoop City on a Monday. That's J.J. mcCarthy.
Capital One Bank Guy
Yeesh.
James Palmer
That's Sam Darnold in a big game, handling pressure, both types of pressure. Can he get over that? We'll talk about it with Chase coming up next on Scoop City on a Monday.

James Palmer
Welcome back to Scoop City on a Monday. James Palmer, Diana Rossini, Chase, Daniel with you. It was the matchup we were all looking forward to seeing. I was watching it on my computer while I was sitting in the press box between Chiefs and Broncos. It was the Rams and the Seahawks and Sam Darwin Arnold. Last time he faced the Rams he was sacked nine times. He was wearing a Vikings uniform then, but now he is wearing a Seahawks uniform. He goes 29 of 44 guys for 279 yards, no touchdowns, four picks. The crazy part was they still had a chance to win this game. I want to ask you Chase off the jump, the pressure. I was talking to Mike Sando on Thursday on our show and he mentioned the one quarterback out of Stafford and Sam Darnold that he would take because both these D lines bring pressure is obviously Matthew Stafford in his eyes. I'm looking at the pressure that that D line gave and the pressure of big games. Which one was more worrisome of for you, for Sam Darnold, in terms of those two ways we use the word pressure?
Chase Daniel
Yeah. I mean, it's got to be the pressure of the big game, right? Because you look at three games in the past 11 months, maybe less that Sam Darnold has sort of laid an egg.
Mint Mobile Advertiser
And.
Chase Daniel
And this game is a little bit different for me because, like when you throw four interception, you expect to get blown out. And it just says how good the Seahawks defense is. I just think the pressure plan, the actual plan to get pressure on Sam Darnold was really good. And this was something that I've seen from Sam Donald really in the past in general. And you. You really just don't get over this is anytime the pocket was tied or. And this goes back a year in evaluating him, or anytime he gets a free runner, he sort of freezes up a little bit. And so actual pressure getting on him, that's what's difficult. And the ramps were able to do it multiple times. Whether it's this Cover 4 look that you're seeing here and he's trying to throw a bender into. Into number 18, or it's whether it's pressure from line stunts or whether it's pressure from linebacker level and. And they just had in Shula, the defense quarter of the ramp. They just had an exceptional plan for Sam Darnold. But I do think it is worrisome, James and Diana, that when you do this a third time and you don't play up to your level on a third time, and this is a very important game, there's something to be said about. Okay, like, can he deliver in the big moments?
James Palmer
Diana, what's perception it about Sam right now?
Diane Rossini
It's. This is a big test for him for sure. And I'm just going to go back on the decision that Minnesota made. Right. Like, if anyone knew him well in his ability and believed him and loved the guy, it was the Minnesota Vikings. And after they got knocked out of the playoffs, after his performance, it made me just. It makes me think that maybe they sense that as well, that they know something that. That maybe not everyone has bought into just yet.
Chase Daniel
Now, look, I think they would take him right now, though, over J.J. oh.
Diane Rossini
Oh, for sure.
Chase Daniel
Just so you know for sure, which.
Diane Rossini
I. James, what'd you think of Jamie McCarthy yesterday?
James Palmer
It's.
Chase Daniel
It's tough.
James Palmer
It's Tough. And listen, I'm gonna skip the performance and go more towards the situation like that. That is a veteran locker room that is built to make a playoff run. Right now. They spent even more money in the trenches to try to make sure that works. When you ask people around the league and I kind of did that this weekend, just a couple different minds and it was like, guys are open, like Kevin is a good offensive coordinator. There are players that are open. I just want to know, Chase, how you handle this when I mention that as Kevin o', Connell, when you are scheming an offense and you have Justin Jefferson who's getting a lot of looks, some of them he can't even even reach for. One of them he didn't even try to reach for because it was so inaccurately thrown towards him. How do you find that balance between grooming JJ McCarthy, putting more on his plate, but at the same time you have this team that is looking at you going, we know we're pretty good.
Chase Daniel
I mean, the weak spot of the entire team is the quarterback play. It's not like it's hard, it's not hard to see that. And it stems from when I watch the film. Yes, there's stuff open. It's the inaccuracy part. I think that that's worrisome because there's some throws where you're like, oh my gosh. And then there's some other throws like, oh my gosh. For like the worst reasons. I mean, look, I'm not into stats, but only one game this season when he's completed better than 50%, 6% of his passes. That's not good. That's not good. And, and, and this offense is a very completion heavy offense. They, they like to get completions, they like to stack completions. And when you can't do that and you continually turn the football over like they're not going to bench them. But, and I know he's young and I know he's only played a certain amount of games, the question has to be thought of like, man, like this is a Super bowl caliber team. This, they went out and spent a ton of money on their offensive line. They have the best receiver in football and it's just not quite working. And why isn't it working well? The quarterback's not playing well and they've been through a lot of stuff with Carson Wentz and now JJ and this is just going to be a growing pains like this. This is a season where you're going to hope to limp into the playoffs at Some point. But your whole main part of the rest of the season, in my opinion, is saying, hey, is J.J. mcCarthy the guy for us moving forward?
James Palmer
Forward.
Diane Rossini
If I'm being Chase, you say this, but this is a head coach who was lauded and praised for his perspective on young quarterbacks. That this league is too impatient, that a lot of these quarterbacks aren't put into the right programs. I think he said it on the Rich Eisen show where.
James Palmer
And we had Zach Keeper on Diana about the whole situation, remember?
Diane Rossini
Yeah.
James Palmer
At the beginning of the year.
Diane Rossini
Yeah. He did a whole. I forgot about that. That. Yeah. Zach killed that story. A great story about just how quarterbacks just aren't really given fair shakes. Well, it's easy to say it. It's hard to eat the losing, though, when you're going through these growing pains. Right. Because there's no way Kevin oconnell is happy with this. Like, you know, he's frustrated. They think about him. He was coach of the year. Think about how much success he's had. And. And now he's working with a quarterback who just is going to need more time.
Chase Daniel
Yeah.
James Palmer
And time on the. On task. Honestly, time on task, which has been an issue.
Chase Daniel
It just doesn't look the same. And I think that's sort of what the issue is.
James Palmer
Yeah, it's. Listen, this is, this is why you win coach of the year. Let's lean on you.
Chase Daniel
Very true.
James Palmer
And see what you can get out of your quarterback because this is so fascinating. We talk about it. The guy's on a bad team. I wish he was on a better team to help him develop. Oh, the guy's holding back a really good team while he develops.
Chase Daniel
So true.
James Palmer
We just love to debate these young quarterbacks throughout the course of the season. Always for Diana Rossini Chase, Daniel James Palmer. I hope you enjoyed this scoop City on a Monday. We'll be back with you later this week.
