Fellas, you know Degree Cool Rush deodorant, right? Well, last year they changed the formula and guys were mad about it. One dude even started a petition. So guess what? So grab some and remember why its cool, crisp and fresh scent made it the number one men's antiperspirant for the last decade. Degree Cool Rush is back and it smells like victory for all of us.
Diana Rossini
My face ID didn't recognize me this morning and I'm like, what is. Did I mess this thing up? And I realized it's because I looked so tired. Like I looked so ugly this morning. My phone didn't recognize me.
Chase Daniel
No, stop.
Diana Rossini
It is the truth, I swear. Because once I took a shower and brushed my hair and put some makeup on, I did it and it was like right back. That is the point of that. In the season. I'm so gross. My phone doesn't know me.
Chase Daniel
That's so not true. I don't believe you for one second. And neither should I listeners because I swear they had a freaking during COVID they could recognize you with a mask.
Diana Rossini
On again because of your eyes. There's something going on with exhaustion in my eyes. I think it's like it's doing something up here.
Chase Daniel
Didn't you just get a new phone? I think you need another one.
Diana Rossini
What makes you think that?
Chase Daniel
Oh my God. Diana.
Diana Rossini

Feel free to leave some comments, some thoughts, questions. We're trying to start some new concepts in this off season coming up. Once the draft comes and goes in just a matter of weeks here, we want some good mailbag questions. I want to start really tapping into what you guys want to know in the off season about your team, about someone specific in the league. Maybe even just a question to Chase or to or. Or to me about whatever it is.
Chase Daniel
I answered the questions on YouTube. You do not.
Diana Rossini
I will catch up. You are great at that. Do. Where do you do it? Do you just sit on your phone like before you go YouTube app. Yeah, just go YouTube app. And you just. You just pop on in. Yeah. All right.
Chase Daniel
I will.
Diana Rossini
I will get better with that, but I will certainly be on the lookout for more of those comments, so thanks. For those who are already in on it, we appreciate all that. So we've got lots to get to. Just got back from the owner's meeting last episode. I was down on the ground sun shining on my face. Um. Gosh, that was awesome. Back home here in New Jersey and just a lot going on, and we've hit that point in the year where we joke. It's. It's kind of lying season and everyone's playing coy and I feel like I wake up every day and there's like a new story about a different quarterback in the draft. What a team is doing. Right. It's a. It's hard, especially as someone that's supposed to have the information. It's hard to keep track of what is.
Chase Daniel
It's lying season for sure.
Diana Rossini
Yes. What's the truth? But that being said, there are still lots of info to get to. Some facts, some fun opinions, and then some fun. The owner's meeting, as I mentioned to you, probably appears to you just uptight and a little tense because it's meetings and it's in a hotel room. Well, it's, in fact, very fun. So party. Party time on the loose? Not really, but I got some fun stories to share with you, so I want to get to that at the end of the show. But first, here' here's what I'm hearing around the league.
Chase Daniel
All right, Diana, the biggest news out of owners meetings. The tush push has been tabled. What does that mean?
Diana Rossini
All right, so we're going to go a few weeks here before we get to May, and I expect them to basically change the wording in how this is going to be described as a proposal. I think Green Bay, which is the team that proposed this, remember we talked about that? Mark Murphy was the one who put this together and propose this to the competition committee. The team that proposes it is the team that has to rework the language. So they're going to rework this language and they're going to try to do it in a way that it's geared so it's not so specific to this play in order to get it banned. Does that make sense?
Chase Daniel
No, because I was just going to ask, what about pushing and pulling a player? Right. Like, you can push a pile forward on the field if there's a scrum and you're a center, say Creed Humphrey or say, you know, the center for the Steelers or whoever it is, and you're going and you're pushing a pile. Right. That's called pushing. Or if you're a defensive player, you're trying to pull the other way. So are they taking. Pushing, pulling out of it? Or. Or is it just. It's a little bit confusing.
Diana Rossini
So a couple things. The new rule structure could involve needing the refs to spot forward progress differently. That. That was the big topic of discussion. Right. And the word immediate, and I know we talked about this last show, was the hot word. Coach Vrabel was the one who spoke up, like, how do you measure immediate? What is immediate? So they're gonna try to sort that.
Chase Daniel
Yeah, like one second or two seconds go by.
Diana Rossini
Exactly. But I just feel like with fans being so irritated by officiating now, imagine them having to judge where players start to get pushed. So, look, we've been reporting for over a year now that Roger Goodell does not like the play. Okay. So I've been hearing about this for a while.
Chase Daniel
And what doesn't he like about it?
Diana Rossini
He thinks it's ugly. He doesn't think it's a football play. While the league office and those that are hoping to ban this play will tell you that safety is the issue, that they're trying to get ahead of it, we know that there's not a lot of data supporting that at this point. And that's essentially what Philadelphia was trying to tell everyone when they were running around at the hotel having these conversations with people that they knew were on the fence or guys that were on the competition committee, like Rams head coach Sean McVay, for example, who has been very open that he just thinks the play's ugly. He doesn't esthetically doesn't like the play.
Chase Daniel
So how does that work, though, before you get going? Because I want to dive into that, because the Philadelphia Eagles are obviously the team that runs at the best. Right. Are you seeing teams and people from the Eagles actually go up to other teams and other owners and other coaches and be like, this is why we have to vote for this? Is it all in open public? Are you able to see it? Is it side meetings? Are you seeing those things? Because that's fascinating to me.
Diana Rossini
Yes, I'm. See, that's what I was watching this Whole time it was like a mob out there of guys going up to each other and debating it and discuss it. I'm telling you, it was the most talked about topic, hands down. You had teams that were forward talking to the teams that they know are against it. And it was basically a straw poll. And 16 teams were in favor of banning it, and 16 teams were in favor of keeping it. And they would need eight more in order for it to be banned.
Chase Daniel
Were you surprised that it was 16? 16, because the packers got so much hate from like media people and they were the only team to say that. Now there's 16 against banning it.
Diana Rossini
Do you remember on the show last week, I brushed by it and I said, man, there is some momentum building because I was talking to some guys around the league who told me that there were some conversations happening from Philadelphia calling some team to be like, hey, man, like, are. Are you on our side or not? You know, where do you stand on this? Because they started to have concerns knowing that Roger Goodell doesn't like it. And usually what happens is when Roger Goodell doesn't like it, owners tend to lean towards kind of keeping everything in, in the same space. And, and let's, let's. Let me just make this point real quick. Mark Murphy is the one that proposed it. Name the one team that doesn't have an owner in football. It's the Green Bay Packers.
Chase Daniel
The Packers.
Diana Rossini
Right. So they're the right team to propose. I don't know that for a fact, but it makes a lot of sense to me. Right.
Chase Daniel
That makes all the sense in the world.
Diana Rossini
So look, Sean Payton stood up during this and he said. And he's. He's for the Tushbush.
Chase Daniel
Yeah.
Diana Rossini
And he said, there's a better chance of us getting in a car wreck on the drive to the link than I believe it is for these players to be injured. In the Tush book.
Chase Daniel
He said that publicly. What a flex, dude.
Diana Rossini
He's so ridiculous.
Chase Daniel
What a flex. So my thing is when you're talking about banning it, and obviously there was a lot of talk, as you said, and back and forth, obviously split right down the middle. 16, 16. A couple things come to mind. For me. The Eagles are the one team that runs it way better than everyone else. Right. We know that the Bills do it. Not as well. There's some other team that do it, but this. But it's like a play, legitimate play in the Philadelphia, Philadelphia Eagles playbook. So you're telling me that Roger Goodell is not an Eagles fan? First and Foremost second of all is what you're telling me is that because you're targeting one team, they're going to change the entire rule because of this non existent player health and safety. That makes no sense whatsoever. You are one team that's running it and you're really good at it. And there's no health and safety concerns as of right now. There might be in the future. That's what you're going to be changing it. But you're rewriting a rule in the playbook to target one team. When was the last time that's happened? Like just stop the play. There's no injury concerns.
Diana Rossini
Correct. And you look at it as they're taking one play out of the game to write a more expansive play, a rule. So cosmetically it's, it's going to look like it's not targeting the Eagles. Right. Because we all know it's their play. And then they're going to create just what I believe to be maybe unintended consequences out of this. Right. Especially when you say rewrite forward progress downfield, it's just going to put officials in a bad position. That, that, that's.
Chase Daniel
What do you mean by, for, like, what do we mean by forward progress? The only, the only thing I can think of when you say that is as a quarterback, when you, when you have your hands under the center and you know you're going to do a normal quarterback sneak, you don't really go straight toward the center's butt, right. You go to an open a gap. That's what they teach us in, in these, in these, we get taught like, hey, if it's equal, if they're in a jam front, which means all the offensive line are covered, go to the best guard who has the most push. Now here on the Tush push, obviously the guys are right behind. They're tush and they're pushing the tush. I get that. At what point do you stop the forward progress? Because a lot of these Eagles things, they've, I've seen them get three yards on it. Is it like after one yard we're saying you can only get one yard? It just seems really freaking confusing to me.
Diana Rossini
It is. And, and this is why it was tabled because the people, it became very complicated and I think everyone just wants a little bit more time. But let me just translate it to you. I think the fact that this was tabled tells me that they're going to ban the Tush push. They're going to find this year, this year they're going to find a way to get it out of the ball.
Chase Daniel
Eagles fans are in shambles right now.
Diana Rossini
I don't know what else to say because this really went from two months ago when I was having conversations around the league about it and I was having it casually. Most did not believe it would get this serious and this quickly moved to now.
Chase Daniel
In all your observations though, this is what I think that probably most people would want to know that don't know inside information like you. Why. What is the number one reason you can say that the Tush push will probably be banned in 2025? Is it Roger Goodell just doesn't like it. It doesn't look like a football play. It's unfair. What's the number one reason from people you've talked to?
Diana Rossini
I think that every team that is against it has their own reason. It's some of them I think believe or want to be in line with Roger Goodell. I think some believe it's an ugly play and I think whether or not they'll admit it or not, if you can't beat it, ban it.
Chase Daniel
And I think that is so freaking soft, Diana. Oh my gosh.
Diana Rossini
It's soft but it's the reality. It's a competitive win now industry. And if you know that the Philadelphia Eagles are built to win for the next three, four years, easy, let's, let's hurt them.
Chase Daniel
It's because the Eagles won the frickin Super Bowl.
Diana Rossini
Jealousy baby.
Chase Daniel
So that's fascinating.
Diana Rossini
So that was the big one and we're going to continue to talk about this but were there any other roles that, that you saw that that were proposed.
Chase Daniel
Yeah.
Diana Rossini
That you liked?
Chase Daniel
Probably not going to stick out to a lot of people but the, the chain gang. I'm sad about it. Like I like no longer changing. Right. They're doing it upstairs. They're doing it virtually or whatever. The chain game is still going to be on the field but there's backups if something goes wrong in the system.
Diana Rossini
Don't, don't understand what they're doing. They're, they're using technology finally. I mean they're already behind. Don't you think they are. But it's 2025 and they have listen.
Chase Daniel
Guys out there and I love it. Those guys are some of the coolest freaking dudes I have met. They're old timers who have played football that don't have a lot to do, that are retired, that just want to be part of the game, that take their freaking job seriously. I know, look, I get it.
Diana Rossini
I Get like three that tear the ACL every year.
Chase Daniel
I know, I know. But I'm just saying from, like, my perspective when I came in and I, like, I remember as a backup, not playing a lot, I'd have good conversations with those guys now. They're still going to be there, and they'll probably have better conversations, but I just think, like, better conversations because they.
Diana Rossini
Don'T have that much to do anymore because the cameras can get it.
Chase Daniel
Yeah. I just think that there's so much, like, just a lot of history. Right. Like, we change our game so much. Like, there's just rules just change constantly. Constant, constant, constant. I get it. It's, like, so outdated, but it gives a little bit of that old time feel like, all right, let's go chain gang. You know, let's walk the chains out. And just the drama that builds up on, like, a big fourth and one. Did you get it? No. Remember the. The ref that took the note card and slid it through? The drama that builds up for these shank. I'm just telling you, you're not going to have it. And they're going to be like, oh, first down. No, not. There should be no drama. And I like the drama.
Diana Rossini
I like that you just convinced me because I just got goosebumps when you brought up that story. Because you're right. It is exciting and it does.
Chase Daniel
People are like, oh, my gosh, you got to move out of the way. Like, let's go. You know, but.
Diana Rossini
But it's 2025. I watch Thursday Night Football on my phone in my kitchen while I'm getting things done. If technology is there and then we still have the. These older gentlemen out there pulling chains, it just doesn't match with how we're progressing as a sport. So, look, I like the sentiment of it, but from a game that people are already complaining is moving too slow at times, this has to speed it up. We're going to get answers quick. But you like the drama. I get it. You love the sizzle. I love the steak. What can I say? All right, so we are just a few weeks out from the draft. And look, we said it when we started the show. It just feels like it's all over the place right now in terms of what the teams that are in the market for a quarterback are doing. Teams that you think may want one, teams that you think should get one. And starting with the Cleveland Browns, I really think the Cleveland Browns are going to be the team to decide what the heck goes down in this draft. Right. Because you got to Figure they've got two plans here, maybe three. They go Shador Sanders. Perhaps they're in on him. They're going to go to his workout or, and yeah, or they've got a Kirk Cousins thing going where they're going to be able to have him come aboard and. And they'll be able to go best player or perhaps even trade out as another option. But to me, that is the question mark of this draft. What are they doing? I always thought in the off, you know, early off season, oh, they're going quarterback. It just makes so much sense. I had some conversations in Cleveland. It was very apparent it's quarterback and it's shifting. It is. Now that I'm back from owners, it's shifting.
Chase Daniel
So you. You legit had conversation. They felt like it was qb, it was early.
Diana Rossini
Don't be so sure we're going quarterback tone, you know, like slow that down.
Chase Daniel
Surprising. I wonder what changed.
Diana Rossini
I. I would love to know if that means they watched more Shador Sanders and didn't like or. Or they were able to get a situation with Kirk Cousins that makes them happy or perhaps someone else. I don't know who that other person would be. I don't think it's Joe Flacco. Yeah. And that's not the answer. But this is where the Browns are going to be the ones to really determine what happens next. Because then you got the Giants and they're another team where you and I have been shouting from the rooftop like it makes sense. They're going to go quarterback. They have to go quarterback. Their jobs are on the line. But they've got two veteran quarterbacks now with Jameis Winston and Russell Wilson on their roster. They sign these guys pretty much right after the Cam Ward workout. But you have two things that in play here, right? You have the jobs of Brian Dable and Joe Shane on the line. And then you also have the fact of just the. The reality of what this roster looks like. How do you read it?
Chase Daniel
Well, let's just go back to the Browns real quick because you just passed over and I'm like, that's like the most entertaining pick to me. Because it's like, if you pick, obviously I don't think they're going to take quarterback. Diana. I just. I don't think that Shador Sanders or Jackson Dart is worth the number two overall pick. I just don't. I feel like they could probably wait until next year to get a guy or they can get someone later in the round. And you reporting and telling me about Kirk. It Makes a lot of sense, right? Their relationship, Kirk Cousins, Kevin Saman's relationship goes back. I can see that happening. I just can't imagine a world where unless you're 1000% sure of Shador Sanders working out, especially after the bomb that was desean Watson set off in that contract, I can't imagine a world where they're going to be all in on a guy that you don't know is going to succeed. Now, he might. I think he's got the potential, but you have bigger needs, especially if you have Abdul Carter or Travis Hunter there. To me, it's best player available. But going to the Giants, what you were asking, they're making these top two teams other than the Tennessee because we think Tennessee is going to take Cam Ord. You're talking about Cleveland Browns and New York Giants. They have made it apparently clear based on their actions and in the media that they don't want to take quarterbacks. And I think it's because they probably studied these quarterbacks and said, you know what, the number two overall pick and a number three overall pick, it's not good enough. And guess what? This is what I think. This is what I think. And I, and I, and we've been talking about it a lot, specifically when it comes to the Giants. I don't know if John Mara, the owner, is going to let them trade up to pick Cam Ward. I think this is Cam Ward or nothing for the New York Giants. And that's why after, right after. And it's weird timing, but right after Cam Ward had his pro day, they signed Russell Wilson. And I think that sells you everything you need to know. I think they don't think Shador is ready. And I think they can have a hell of a player at number three.
Diana Rossini
Yeah. And it really felt like Joe Shane was doing a lot of work on Shador, too. Remember, we saw tons of videos him at the workouts. He was out of Colorado. But look, I think these things, they're nimble and they. And they have to be that way. And you're right. I do think ownership, who has already shown his hand that he's impatient with the production here and these guys are on a short leash. We've questioned it here on the show who's looking out for the future of this Giants organization. And it sounds like it may be the owner, especially if they don't go quarterback.
Chase Daniel
Hold on real quick. Before we move on to the Patriots, I had just a quick question. Maybe you don't know. Maybe you do know how short of A leash. Is Kevin Stefanski on right now in Cleveland?
Diana Rossini
Good question. So I was, I was getting the sense last year that the pressure was definitely on. I never thought he was going to get fired in season or anything. I don't think anyone on that staff felt great about where they stood. And I think there had to be a real understanding and come to Jesus of where Deshaun Watson stood. I think he was at the center of all this, right? Like, are we going to do this or not? Do we really believe in him? And obviously after Jimmy has those comments, as you heard the other day, they swung big, they missed. This was bad. This, you know, and the other part of that is, you know, Deshaun Watson's hearing this, right? I mean, how does he feel? He's trying to get back in. No, for sure, this is going to be over. This is over. You don't make those comments unless you're done.
Chase Daniel
No doubt.
Diana Rossini
But I think, I think there was a time though when ownership didn't think it was done. Like, come on, we got to be able to get someone in here to get the best out of this kid. Look what we did. And I get why he was like that. Yeah, yeah. But I think when you take a step back and you look at the situation and you, and you realize that Kevin Stefanski, a two time coach of the year, would get gobbled up in two seconds if he got fired, you realize like, okay, maybe it's not the quarterback. You know, this coach has been able to get some good wins, so. And look, with Miles Garrett coming back, they have a lot of stuff working to their advantage now. But, but I'm interested to see how next year will go because you're right, like that quickly can come right back around. Yeah, but, but I would say that, that obviously at this point, I think Kevin, Kevin Stefanski is fine. So we talked Browns, we talked Giants. We have yet to really talk about the number four pick, the New England Patriots. Right?
Chase Daniel
They have their number four pick.
Diana Rossini
Yeah, that's my point. Like, look, they don't need a quarterback. Their head coach admitted that he took that job because of the quarterback. So they love everything about Drake May and his potential. We saw what they did in free agency. They spent a boatload of money on players. Some I think you and I could argue were really good signing some maybe a little overpriced, some a little overspending. But they did what they had to do because they need to find a way to become a destination place to be a team that is built the way they want this to look compared to the way it was last year. Lots of change going on. So with. With that being said, Robert Kraft said that he's optimistic they can make the playoffs.
Chase Daniel
Really?
Diana Rossini
Which.
Chase Daniel
What was that your earring again or your ear?
Diana Rossini
This is why I don't wear. This is why I wear those big, stupid headphones, because I have weird ear holes I need.
Chase Daniel
That sounds weird. All right. So why do you think he's so optimistic? The quarterback, the head coach. That's a tough division.
Diana Rossini
I don't know, but can we lower the expectations here, Rabel?
Chase Daniel
We fire. Hey.
Diana Rossini
Hey.
Chase Daniel
Craps is like, hey, we fired Mayo playoffs, bro.
Diana Rossini
Yeah. He's like, oh, my head coach won three Super Bowls. We're gonna win a Super bowl again. That's just how it works. It's osmosis.
Chase Daniel
They still have so many different holes they need to fill.
Diana Rossini
I said I will say it, too. I am blue in the face. The New England Patriots are not going to be good this year. This is not their year. No, they will be good in the future. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Like, this is. So much had to be changed there and recalibrated and. And I also think finding their identity as part of this process the next year, they didn't know what the heck they year.
Chase Daniel
That's so good.
Diana Rossini
Right? So you've got a little mix of the old guys, the new guys together, and you have this young quarterback. That's a lot to ask of a. Of a new head coach with a young guy with a lot of change with a new offensive coordinator. So while I appreciate Robert Kraft's high demands and expectations, I think he probably needs to be a little bit more realistic. So what do you think they're going to do in terms of need? I'll tell you what I think. Thankful. Do you tell me what you think. Knee was.
Chase Daniel
Yeah, knee. They need an offensive tackle. And I just think that the guy from Missouri and the guy from lsu, Campbell, I think it's a little too high for them. And you look at the draft, I. I am viewing this draft just based on what I've seen on film. It's like the top two players in the draft, without a doubt, Travis Hunter and Abdul Carter. And then obviously, Cam Ward is going to probably go number one because of fit and need. After that, I see a little bit of a drop off I wouldn't hate, honestly, especially if they feel like they need to rebuild. They feel like they need more picks. They feel like maybe this isn't the year to go to the playoffs, like Robert Kraft said, to trade back because the fourth overall pick, there's going to be a lot of teams that have needs to want to move up to the fourth overall pick. I would seriously think about trading back because the drop off between Abdul. Abdul Carter and Travis Hunter after that, it's not crazy big, but it's a big gap.
Diana Rossini
Yeah. And I think they're one of those teams right now that trading back is definitely on the board. How could it not with the things that they're looking for? But then you've got Travis Hunter. If he's going to be available. I feel like reading the tea leaves. He'd be somebody that they would like. Why do you say no?
Chase Daniel
There's not going to be there, Diana.
Diana Rossini
Oh, I see what you're saying. You know what I mean? Like, you never know. What if. What if in all this, the only.
Chase Daniel
Way is if Shador goes two or three. That would be. That would be the New England's dream. And then you get one of the best two players in the draft.
Diana Rossini
Look, I think we. I think from.
Chase Daniel
You better play Travis Hunter at receiver, though. Do not play him at db. That's a wasteful.
Diana Rossini
Oh, and in New England.
Chase Daniel
Yes.
Diana Rossini
Why would they try. They don't need him at db. He would. It would make right. Don't you think it would make more sense for him to be receiver?
Chase Daniel
I think it would make more sense.
Diana Rossini
To be a receiver.
Chase Daniel
Anywhere he goes.
Diana Rossini
Yes. So while Travis Hunter, we assume, is going to be taken early, I still think from now until the draft, we have to just keep the Giants on the board for Shador. Like, I don't think we can kill it yet. So let's just say that happens. Let's just say Joe Shane convinces ownership that this is the guy. Then Travis Hunter is available. Are you disappointed if New England takes him?
Chase Daniel
No, I'm overjoyed. You need a playmaker offensively. He can come in and he can give you a thousand yards. In your first season at receiver with Drake May. Pair him up with Stefan Diggs. Those other guys, they got your receiver room just got a lot better from last year. Drake May should be happy.
Diana Rossini
Yeah. All right. Coming up on Scoop City, we dive into the latest with new deals for Micah Parsons, Brock Purdy, Trey Hendrickson. I feel like this is going to be a whole section of here's what the owner is saying and here's what the player slash agent is saying, and everyone's fighting through the media and we're gonna translate it and then we're gonna tell you what's probably gonna happen. We'll be right back.

Peloton visit1peloton.com all right, back here on Scoop City, we've got some contract woes to get into. Before we do that though, the Cowboys make a trade with the New England Patriots for Joe Milton. Quick reaction to that. What was your thought? They they had a a pick swap, right? So they sent Joe Milton and a seventh rounder in exchange for a fifth round pick to New England. So Jerry looking for a backup and.
Chase Daniel
We saw how that worked out for a fourth round pick for Trey Lance last year. Look, I like Joe Milton. I think that he talent wise physically is one of the best talents I've seen. Like just if you just put them in shorts and you just say throw the ball a country mile, he can do that and he can play quarterback. And I do think that the Week 18 game versus Bills when they rest their starters, he threw for 241 yards and a touchdown. I do think it like raised some eyebrows around the league right When I watched him at Tennessee coming out a little raw, has some stuff to work on, but I do think that based on the. I'm trying to say this nicely. Based on the quarterbacks in this upcoming draft and where Dallas will, they felt it was probably necessary to go out and trade for their backup rather than draft a guy that you're just not quite sure.
Diana Rossini
I've learned over the years, when you take a look at different trade compensation, there's always reasons for it. Right. So first, I'll just start with the fact when they signed Josh Dobbs, I immediately knew Joe Millen was out. Right. That's just how that works. But with them getting a 5th rounder in exchange for Joe Milton, I don't know, it just made me think, what does New England know that we don't know? You know, it was. I want to see what happens here because I'd be curious. I didn't get the sense that there were a lot of teams looking to trade for him, despite the fact that there are needs. Yeah, no, I, I think it's always. I think it's just Dallas. There could be a team out there that I didn't know about. But that was, that was the sense the whole time. Because they've been talking for a while.
Chase Daniel
Yeah.
Diana Rossini
Oh, they were.
Chase Daniel
Oh, see, I didn't do that.
Diana Rossini
This didn't just pop up. This has been. There's been some flirting between Dallas and New England.
Chase Daniel
The one thing before we move on, I don't want to spend a lot of time. The one thing that, like, for Joe Milton as a player, I think it, I think it's the right move for him. I think he can go and learn from a. A pro, like an actual pro from Dak. How to live, eat, breathe, be a quarterback, how to get ready for a game. Not that Drake May doesn't know, but Drake May's going into his second year. He hasn't even started a full season of games. So you got two rookies together. I like the Josh Jobs signing in New England. Just helps, you know, Drake May understand. Hey, all right. Like, it was similar to me when I was with Mitch Trubisky. Mitch was going to the second year but didn't really know how to watch film. Thought he like, you know, and all this stuff is, you can help. You can have that with a pro. So I think this actually helps Milton's career.
Diana Rossini
You're a little model citizen out there as a quarterback, but you're right, the quarterback room is an, is an extreme upgrade here. But also Brian Schottenheimer, you Know who has such a great relationship with Dak. This is just a well oiled machine at this point. So this is easy for Joe Milton to step in and be like, okay, this is how they do it and this is the right way to do it. We just spent way too much time on a Joe Milton trade conversation. But Micah Parsons is really the story in Dallas. If we're going to stay on the Dallas conversation, obviously pretty annoyed at Jerry Jones's comment towards his agent with the tweets. And I think everyone saw it and just rolled their eyes of what games are we playing, what are we doing here? I think there's definitely a level of disrespect, without a doubt towards one of the best agents in football. And Micah took care of it by tweeting out like, this is who my guy is.
Chase Daniel
A level of disrespect. He straight up called him out.
Diana Rossini
Everyone in football knows who he is. Right. So it, it's all negotiation tactics. That's all. See, I didn't, I immediately.
Chase Daniel
You're pretty level headed, you know that, Diana? That's so pretty level headed. No, but you are when it comes to this stuff. You, you know how to like.
Diana Rossini
I just know what, what it, what's going on here. Because lately, with all the contracts that need to get done and perhaps will, the theme really has been ownership saying maybe not the best things publicly, but they're doing it for a reason. Like they're, they're trying to hold on to as much leverage as they have because it's emotional. I, I had an executive in TV say to me once, the biggest mistake you're making in these negotiations is you're making it personal.
Chase Daniel
Yeah.
Diana Rossini
How do you not make a negotiation personal, though?
Chase Daniel
Yeah.
Diana Rossini
Right. Well, you, you, you, you can't help it. But, but which is why owners are doing this.
Chase Daniel
Well, that's why I want players to stay out of it. And that's why I feel like it's the most awkward situation of all time when a player represents themself and they go to a GM or they go to an owner, they could negotiate their own contract because that owner and GM is not going to hold back. It's going to be an awkward relationship. And this is what sort of Micah was doing with Jerry. First of all, I thought Jerry was disrespectful. But Micah and Jerry, Micah's a superstar, one of the elite superstars of the NFL. So he's earned the right to go in and you know, reports that they have a five or six hour conversation With Jerry and Micah. First of all, how in the world do you talk to Jerry Jones for five to six hours after hour one? What else can you talk about? Hey, Jerry, pay me $42 million a year. Let's get going. So look, I get that, but I don't like the disrespecting of it. And eventually cooler heads need to prevail. It's all about leverage. Like you were saying. I just don't. I don't understand the comments, Jerry. Like, this isn't anything new for the Dallas Cowboys. This is how they always handle business. Hey, we're going to go promise you America's team and the brand and put your star behind it. Micah, put your podcast behind it. You're going to be talked about. You're going to be set up for success after football, whatever you want to do. I get that. But he also tries to just wait as long as humanly possible because he has pockets that do not end with money and he's willing to overpay. And I just don't get it. Pay early. The price just went up about 5 million a year after Miles signed that deal. And Max, like, it just doesn't make sense to me how they handle business.
Diana Rossini
So I could probably point to five or six episodes of Scoop City since we started together, where we write on our paper, what are the Cowboys doing? And we're both trying to use both my intel and your experience and opinions to answer that question. Yet it's always the same answer, like, but I guess it's my way of saying if you're listening to this, you're probably starving for an understanding and an answer, but unfortunately this is the answer that this is just how Dallas does business and we all have to live with it. And it can be annoying. I'm sure it's frustrating for the players, irritating for the fans, but the reality is the Dallas Cowboys are never in a hurry and they're fine with it.
Chase Daniel
Yeah, no. When does this deal get done?
Diana Rossini
Diana, off what I just said. You know, training camp. You know why?
Chase Daniel
Why? Like why though? Why?
Diana Rossini
I don't know. Because of what I just said.
Chase Daniel
Yeah, I know, I know. But I'm just saying, like, we know.
Diana Rossini
Where it's going to start.
Chase Daniel
Question.
Diana Rossini
No, I know, I know. I'm kidding. I just. We know where the number's going to be. He's got to be the highest paid non quarterback. It's got to be above Jamar Chase.
Chase Daniel
What do you envision structure year wise looking like? Or do you have any idea? Because that's going to be the interesting thing to me because, you know, apy average per year could be really high. But a lot of guys want their. All right, you look at guaranteed money and then you want these first three years of the contract to be front loaded, not the last three to be backloaded. So it'll be interesting to see how that comes out.
Diana Rossini
Yeah, those phony baloney deals that, you know, we tweet out, like what just happened, like the player just won the lottery and then it's all a bunch of blah, blah, blah.
Chase Daniel
They get like 30% of it.
Diana Rossini
Javante Adams, remember, like, that was like, oh, my God, not really.
Chase Daniel
One year 20.
Diana Rossini
Exactly. That's what I should call you, just like the phony baloney translator. Every time a deal gets done, I'm going to text it to you and be like, give me the real. Give me the real. Speaking of Real, 49ers owner Jed York was trying to keep it real. Talking to reporters at owners about Brock Purdy's contract. So we've been talking on this show for the last few weeks that, you know, both sides have been talking and, you know, it appears that, you know, the Niners are set on a range. We'll call like a range of numbers that, that they're comfortable paying Brock. Brock, of course, wants to be paid more. His agent doing his job, trying to get him to be a top paid quarterback in football. So the owner called Purdy a top 10 quarterback in Kyle Shanahan's system. Okay, so I think I've seen his quote around. I didn't realize until I was looking at it, because I didn't actually I did attend that press conference, but I missed him saying that. I remembered I was sitting in the courtyard but I was texting, so I probably missed it. I was there for it because I do appreciate his. He's very open and transparent about stuff. Even though he says things sometimes I think that can not always sit well. He was straight this comment, he's like, He's a top 10 quarterback and Kyle's leverage back.
Chase Daniel
Yeah. Didn't look at it this way.
Diana Rossini
Has anyone, if he is a top 10 quarterback truly outside, you know, with Kyle detached from it, how come no teams have called to trade for him?
Chase Daniel
Oh, right, I didn't know that. Have they not?
Diana Rossini
There have not been any teams that have called the San Francisco 49ers to trade for Brock Purdy. So that kind of tells you how the rest of of the league views him without Kyle Shanahan, perhaps.
Chase Daniel
Okay, you're gonna get Me going on this one.
Diana Rossini
All right, so let's just, let's just restate this just to remind everyone listening, the largest contract right now in football for quarterbacks. It starts with dak Prescott at 60 million. Then it's followed by Josh Allen who just redid it at 55 million. Josh Allen, the MVP, 55 million. Joe Burrow, Trevor Lawrence, Jordan Love, Tua, so on. So Josh Allen at 55, Joe Burrow at 55, Trevor Lawrence at 55, Jordan Love at 55 and Tua 53.1. Jalen Hurts, who just won a Super Bowl, 51 million.
Chase Daniel
Yeah. So, yeah, of those, can we just. This is a pet peeve of mine. And the national media doesn't really realize it, nor do any media. To have Dak Prescott as number one is false. That's not, that's not right. Like in terms of the first. Look, it's a real. And when I say this, if you even it out, 60 million a year, okay, that's not the case. Look at the four year cash flow of all these deals. And a lot of people know this, just don't report it. Josh Allen is making $220 million the next four years. Dak Prescott is making 219 million. The contract's super backloaded. And I'll never see those years to get the value to skyrocket up. So look, first and foremost, you have Dak as a top 10 quarterback. He's paid as like the number two in a four year cash flows fan. That's just what I want to get off my chest because I've studied it. There's no way dak is making $60 million a year every single year. So four year cash flow. It's Josh Allen, the interesting one here, Diana. Okay, so Lamar Jackson, we heard reports of him going to get a new deal that's going to be the highest paid ever, according to Harbaugh. But then that's where it gets a little gray. Like you look at a guy like Trevor Lawrence and you look at a guy like Tua. Even Jared Goff, right? Those are where I would imagine Brock Purdy should end up. And it's. I think Brock Purdy is a top 10 quarterback. Yes, I do.
Diana Rossini
With her. Like you're taking the Kyle stuff out. You're saying just a top 10 quarterback.
Chase Daniel
Here is my entire argument. I hate argument. Just because you're entitled to your own opinion. If you don't think I'm not. We're good. Like anyone listening? Like you're good. Here's why I think Brock is a top 10 guy and it has nothing to do with talent. I was raised in the Sean Payton system and I was also raised in the Andy Reid system. Both of those systems are freaking excellent. Like they are awesome. The biggest thing that Sean Payton and Andy Reid both said to me when I get there, I don't care how you throw the football, I don't care what you do. Run my system well. And if you run it well, we'll win a lot of games. Drew Brees now one of the greatest of all times. I get that you put him on a field and you put them in shorts and T shirt and tell them to throw the football. He ain't going to look like a top 10 quarterback of all time. He ain't going to do it. And I think that's sort of what people can understand with Brock. Well, Brock hasn't carried his team well. Brock, he hasn't had to. I take last year out of it. Take last year out of it. Brock's 4 and 2 in the playoffs. He took his team to the Super Bowl. He took his team to an NFC championship game and that's the one. He got hurt and he was up in the Super Bowl. He was like eight minutes away from winning the Super Bowl. I like that fact on him. You as a quarterback are the system. The system is you. It. You should not punish Brock Purdy for being in a system that fits him well. There's a reason why it looks better than Jimmy Garoppolo ever did. Now I know I get like Jimmy Garoppolo put up a ton of numbers. They took him to all this stuff, the NFC Championship game. Nick Mullins has the most career pass yards through think 10 starts because he played in Shanahan's system. It looks way different with Brock Purdy. There's a reason, Diana, that they're willing to make him a top five highest paid quarterback. Now I know the cap next year is going to 300 million, but if you had to do two tiers of quarterbacks, he's in that second tier for me. Like the first tier would be Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson. Those are the four guys I truly believe maybe Matt Stafford that can put their team on their back regardless of circumstance and get to the game which is the super bowl, which even though a lot of those guys haven't been to, but those are the four. And then you have the tier two of guys which Jalen Hurts is in there. Herbert Stafford, Jared Goff, I think Jaden Daniels, excellent I think he's in that tier along with Dax, CJ Cheryl, Brock Purdy, like, I do think he's in that second. So maybe that's top 12. But I do think based on the system that he plays and that he's asked to run, he is.
Diana Rossini
All right, so Trevor Lawrence is the name I hear in terms of. Not necessarily the comp. But is that the line of that's going to be drawn in terms of what he should be paid? So if I asked your opinion right now, forget Kyle Shanahan. You're just the head coach of a team and you need a quarterback and Trevor Lawrence is available and Brock Purdy is available. Who are you taking?
Chase Daniel
Depends on my scheme 100%. I want. I want a winner. I want a guy who, who knows how to run the system. I would, I would probably take Brock Purdy like Trevor Lawrence, without a doubt more talented. Do you think Trevor's one on one in the playoffs?
Diana Rossini
Should Brock make more money than Trevor Lawrence?
Chase Daniel
Yeah, I think. I think it should be about similar. I think that it should be between 53 and $55 million. And I think two years from now, the San Francisco 49ers are going to look back on this and be like, that was a deal based on the way the seller kept going.
Diana Rossini
So York went on to say, this should be an easy deal to do, right? So when you hear that, it's never ever easy, Diana. No, no, see, I hear that and you know what that tells me? That tells me they're close on a number. That tells me someone's just got to give a little bit more and then it gets done. That. That's. That's a shout out of we hear you, we got you. We're close. Let's get this thing over the finish line. That is how I translate it.
Chase Daniel
It's going to be so interested to hear not the apy. The average per year. I'm going to be so interested to hear the structure of the deal because even though I think Brock Purdy is like that and he's had some good years in Shanahan's system, I wonder if this contract leaves it open to be like Shanahan's just got one eye out just in case everywhere else just.
Diana Rossini
And remember too, before they traded three first round picks for Trey Lance, they wanted Mac Jones. Guess who's on this roster? Mac Jones. Right. Like it. It just make if. If Brock decides to sit or not. Want, you know, if he's not around, which he would never do that.
Chase Daniel
Stop it.
Diana Rossini
I. Who Knows you just went on a saloon for 40 minutes about systems, and it's like. You know what I mean? Like, so you drop Mac Jones in the Kyle Shanahan system, You may get those numbers that we saw Jimmy G throw up. You may get those numbers.
Chase Daniel
I love you, but don't do that.
Diana Rossini
It was a great soliloquy. I hope you clip it. All right, friendly bet. Before we move on really quickly, because I want to touch on Trey Hendrickson. I love talking on this contract stuff. It's so fun. Quick, quick, friendly bet between you and I.
Chase Daniel
Okay.
Diana Rossini
Five bucks. Actually, $5 on the table, and whoever's closer to the number gets the money. His apy will be. What?
Chase Daniel
Oh, man. Well, it's going to be a contract extension, so are we talking about new money?
Diana Rossini
New money.
Chase Daniel
Because it doesn't. It doesn't. Okay. New money. I think it's going to be 54.
Diana Rossini
Okay. I'm going to take 52.
Chase Daniel
What if it's 53? Who wins?
Diana Rossini
The listener.
Chase Daniel
Five bucks.
Diana Rossini
Five bucks to every new subscriber.
Chase Daniel
Oh, that's a good answer.
Diana Rossini
Can't wait for the athletic executives to text me. Hey, we're not expensing that. You can pay that. Speaking of paying, Bengals executive vice president Katie Blackburn spoke about the contract extension negotiations with Trey Hendrickson at the league meetings as well. And he. She said, quote, I think he should be happy at certain rates that maybe he doesn't think he'd be happy at. I think some of it is on him to be happy at some point if he's not. You know, that's what holds us up sometimes. I just. These negotiation tactics are amazing.
Chase Daniel
That's absurd to me.
Diana Rossini
So, you know, it takes him to. You know. So she goes on to basically say, we've got a little respect in the world for him. Just to remind you, he's got one year with a base salary of 15.8 million remaining on his deal. But then Trey went back. Adam. Trey Hendrickson, who just. You played with him?
Chase Daniel
I played with him for two years. He's a very quiet guy.
Diana Rossini
He did an interview.
Chase Daniel
Yeah, he went on McAfee. First of all, he never does interviews. First of all, to go on McAfee for a guy who doesn't do interviews, and you never, ever see him talking, and to have the pointed, perfect response to not only Katie, but. Forget about Katie. She's just the.
Diana Rossini
Well, let me hear what. Let me say what he said on McAfee.
Chase Daniel
Yes.
Diana Rossini
Those. Didn't catch it on Twitter or on the show. He was Asked by Pat, he said that was a little disappointing because communication has been poor over the last few months. They haven't communicated with my agent directly. That's a little bit frustrating. Was really the biggest takeaway from what he was talking about in terms of how they've been talking. So that's him going, that's on you. You guys aren't the ones negotiating with us. You're not the ones taking us seriously.
Chase Daniel
You're holding them hostage, and you're not communicating with his agent. What? What, like, trade him then? Like in. I get it, like, he's 17 sacks, led the NFL in sacks last year. I just think that was a huge statement for knowing Trae. For him to go on that show and to say those comments when you never, ever, ever see him do interviews. And it quite honestly does not make the Bengals front office look good. They haven't looked good in all of this. Okay. And I think that is. I don't think he's trying to embarrass him because he said it pretty. Pretty nice. But one. For his agent to allow that to happen, he had to have trust in it. But he must be feeling some type of way.
Diana Rossini
Well, I think that was. What did we say when we started the segment that these negotiations can't be personal. They're personal. He heard her say that at the owner's meeting. The next day he goes on espn. Right. That just tells you that these things are done and orchestrated on purpose. And so now he's feeling a certain way, and this was his chance to go back. So now I've seen these things go both ways. Sometimes this patches it up because it's like, okay, we messed up. We hear you loud and clear. Let's discuss. And sometimes these things force the divorce. So we'll see what the reaction's gonna be over the next few days and how they'll come either together or apart. But the last, before all this happened, I was getting. I was told they were working on something, that they were going to do this. They weren't going to make him the highest paid player. He said he didn't want to be the highest paid player.
Chase Daniel
Yeah.
Diana Rossini
He wasn't even looking for that kind of money. So we'll see how they work this out just before we take a really quick break. You mentioned you don't like players doing this, but don't you think it behooves them? Isn't this helpful?
Chase Daniel
Yeah, I mean, look it. Most of the time it is helpful, but it just shouldn't have to come to this like, like, it's a very simple. A lot of times teams, like you said, they try to get leverage back. It doesn't have to come to a point to where you're. You're in the media talking each other and being leverage out who can out leverage this guy and who can out leverage this. It just doesn't make like, just keep negotiations quiet. Like when, when, when Justin Jefferson was doing his deal in Minnesota. You didn't hear anything about that? You didn't hear anything? Nothing. Not one peep. Because his agent and him was like, you know what? I'm going to handle my business how I handle my business. And now that's a superstar player. I get that. It's a different story.
Diana Rossini
Remember, Justin said it to us on the show. Exactly.
Chase Daniel
And that's what I'm saying. It's intentional. And I think that that's important. I'll leave it at that.
Diana Rossini
Yeah. Yeah. Chase, what do you think Guy Fieri and Serena Williams have in common?
Chase Daniel
Celebrities.
Diana Rossini
Nope. We're gonna take a quick break. I'm gonna have an answer for you. And I also want to give you some scoop on the owner's meeting. Not news, the gossip. Oh, it's juicy.

All right, Chase, before we go, I wanted to take you and our listeners behind the scenes of what really goes down during these league meetings. I know I touched on it a little bit, but it's the most bizarre event because you have media People who were all, like, out of shape, sloppy dressed human beings walking around lobbies.
Chase Daniel
Yo, that. That's true about some media people. Y'all dress bad. You need to game.
Diana Rossini
It's funny. I did buy a suit I can't afford just because I'm trying to fight that a little bit. Especially as a writer, I'm like, I need to stay sharp. And especially if you're gonna go hang out at the breakers, which is the nicest hotel in West Palm. You gotta look the part, you know?
Chase Daniel
Yeah, yeah. Good for you.
Diana Rossini
So the dynamic of it is so interesting because you have these billionaire owners with their families. You've got coaches and GMs with their families. I know tons of reporters who bring their families. If one more person asks me why I don't bring Mikey and Joey and Kev to these events, I'm gonna slap them.
Chase Daniel
Could you imagine them at the pool while you're trying to interview Jerry Jones?
Diana Rossini
Correct. Like, you think I can deal with those two little wannabe dinosaurs while trying to get information? Like, I would be losing my mind. And then people will go, well, your husband will be with him. Why? So I can deal with him walking by me going, this is the worst idea ever to have to.
Chase Daniel
Probably worse than your husband. Yeah.
Diana Rossini
Correct. And also, I don't want to be embarrassed by my children in front of people I cover because they're like, what kind of mother is she? This guy does this little boy, doesn't even have his clothes on. So, you know, are there a lot.
Chase Daniel
Of head coaches with young kids there?
Diana Rossini
Oh, yes. Oh, yes. I saw Kevin O'Connell's wife pull up with a stroller. I. I think they have four children. If you told me they had 14, I would have said, yep, because that's what it looked like. It's a hurricane. And so it stresses me out watching it. So I will never do that. And in my household, they know they're not invited.
Chase Daniel
How calm are the coaches? Like, the actual. The husbands and dads of, like, the coaches, obviously, when their kids are around and acting crazy. Because I would freak out.
Diana Rossini
Tense now that you say it. I didn't think about it in the moment, but you're right. Now that I'm reflecting on the ones that I saw, I'm like, they were. I love to see them in that light because it makes them so relatable and normal and human instead of like robots at the podium. But there's definitely. They just turn into stressed out dads who've got kids that are driving them nuts. One of My favorite moments, I was sitting. So they had this courtyard at the hotel where they had, like, really nice chairs, so you could sit and post up and just have a coffee with someone or just have a conversation. It became kind of like my spot because you also saw everybody that way because there was a coffee shop. So everyone drinks coffee, right. And you just pick them off right there. And you start catching up with everyone.
Chase Daniel
Pick them off.
Diana Rossini
Like, I'm hunting.
Chase Daniel
You hunting today?
Diana Rossini
100%. I probably saw Kevin Stefanski getting coffee at the same time as me every day. It was just like, hey, Kev, good morning. Like, we might as well just like, order the same thing at this point. But I'm sitting with a head coach at. On one of these chairs, and one of the NFL Network reporters is, who brought his adorable children, is on speakerphone. And I see him, and he's walking towards me. He looks stressed, and I don't know who he's on the phone with. And I hear him just go, I'm coming back upstairs to snuggle with you. I'm sorry, I didn't snuggle with you. And it was obviously, he was on the phone with his kid. But I looked over at the coach, I go, imagine if that was his wife. Just like, I'm coming back up to snuggle with you.
Chase Daniel
I'm coming back up.
Diana Rossini
Right. Just the whole idea. And credit to those who do it. I. I'm just not built for it. Guy Fiori's walking around Serena Williams. They were invited to. Well, Serena was invited to speak. I don't know.
Chase Daniel
Yeah, she was at the flag football thing, right? Didn't they have a. Yeah. I don't know.
Diana Rossini
I got here, she's bidding on it. That's a. Yeah.
Chase Daniel
Why is that question?
Diana Rossini
Good question. I don't know. Someone's friend, someone was flexing. So you have that. And then you've got the media party on Monday night, which all media and pretty much all owners, head coaches, and GMs are invited. So now we just all spent the day together, hanging out. Now we all get dressed up nice and go to a party with drinks and food. And how's the vibe?
Chase Daniel
Are they relaxed?
Diana Rossini
Oh, yeah. Everyone's great. But what's funny is the hotel has regular people there that aren't involved in the media or the media.
Chase Daniel
They don't rent it out.
Diana Rossini
No, there are regular people just walking around on vacation. So imagine you're going up to the bar to get a beer, and Mike Tomlin's just sitting there like, it's just. It's so funny to me. I had a couple friends tell me a story about there was a guy that was staying at the hotel, and I guess he picked up on it. And so he just was introducing himself as coach and no one was asking, like, with who. He just was blending by calling himself.
Chase Daniel
Coach of Dallas Cowboys.
Diana Rossini
I mean, you might as well, but it's really weird. But it's also really cool. Everyone just lets their hair down a little bit. Everyone just acts like normal human beings. I was talking to Nick Sirianni and Jeffrey Lurie just about the super bowl and the parties and, you know, Jeffrey Lurie had just tremendous detail to the parade and things that he'll never forget and just stuff that I don't know if I would have the time to talk to him about ever during the season. So did that one call you out? Nick Sirianni, Multiple times. Every time I saw Nick, it was became a thing. But he's awesome and he deserves to take some shots. He won a Super Bowl. I did not. Yeah, everyone yells at you a little bit because everyone's tangy about everything because they're seeing you in person. A lot of people watch Scoop City shout out everyone helping us grow this thing. And look, you're gonna. You're gonna ruffle feathers when you do a football show and you're talking about their teams. So I am queen of. If I talk about you, though, I am going to go up to you and say hello because I can't avoid it. Although I did see Woody Johnson and I did not go out of my way to talk to him because I.
Chase Daniel
Figured he'd slap me the one to stay away from for him.
Diana Rossini
All right, finally, to wrap this up, our producer on the show, Marissa Morris. Should I say Hyphen Dunn? That is her married name. We call her Marissa Morris, who I've known for many, many years. She was my intern when I was a sports anchor 55,000 years ago. And she has grown into this tremendous producer. She's been part of this show since the launch of Scoop City. She's been part of the Athletic for five years, and this is her last show. She is off to have her second baby girl.
Chase Daniel
It's amazing.
Diana Rossini
And she's going to just slow life down for a second. So she's gonna take a little break for this show. A little break from working and grinding. She is without a doubt one of the most plugged in smart football people. What was your first impression of Marissa when you met her?
Chase Daniel
So the first time I had Marissa as my producer, it was on the Athletic football show, and I was in Hawaii, and you could tell, like, when she produced the show that I was on, she's like, what is this fool doing in Hawaii? Like, does he think he's, like, better? You know what I mean? Like, all that stuff. But no, she's been. She's been great. I mean, she's just super talented, super smart. Just like, about. Not only, like, football, but about, like, gossip, just in general. She's always got the hot gods.
Diana Rossini
We forgot to preface that. She's an Italian Jersey girl, so she has. She's so quick and doesn't miss anything. And she's tough. And that's my favorite quality about her. You don't push her around.
Chase Daniel
Yeah.
Diana Rossini
And she's an amazing husband.
Chase Daniel
Husband is not around.
Diana Rossini
She is my. She is my goal in terms of.
Chase Daniel
Parenting advice for her as a mom, and I'll give mine.
Diana Rossini
Okay. Oh, you want to give it to her as she's getting ready?
Chase Daniel
Give her one piece of parenting advice. Yeah.
Diana Rossini
Okay.
Chase Daniel
Yeah. You got two. What you got?
Diana Rossini
Drink water. Vodka. I will say to her what I'm learning myself in this moment, that everything is a phase. It's. There are days that are so hard, but for those few seconds, it's amazing. It just makes it worth it. But it will go by, it will move. It will keep on moving because it will keep going. What about you?
Chase Daniel
Yeah, I got seven, five, three. So my kids are spread out two years apart. But just try to enjoy the small. The small details, because when my kid was born, like, the second one and the third one, I'm like, ah. I think I'm like, just take lots of pictures. Slow down. It's going to be crazy. And make sure your husband helps you with everything. Don't let him get away with anything. Help him.
Diana Rossini
We need to start addressing this. Hopefully, Marissa will write in the comments section some advice about dealing with Michael. Michael, we love you. We're not crushing you on this. But before we go. So Marissa has been part of so many different shows at the Athletic, including Scoop City. So we thought we'd get just a little bit of feedback from the people that have worked with her. Pretty much sending their best and reflecting on some of the things that they love about Marissa. So here are some of our guys.
Chase Daniel
Marissa, Auntie, as you're known in this house, the goat producer. Congratulations on an epic run at the Athletic. Made everyone's life around you easier. Made everyone's life around you more joyful. Now you get to go spend some Time with those two little girls. So happy for you. And I learned pretty quickly that inheriting Marissa as your podcast producer was about.
Diana Rossini
As good as it gets.
Chase Daniel
She made Tim and I better every day. She made us look good. We're just a couple of oaf smashing buttons trying to record a jets podcast about a team full of dysfunction. Never a dull moment. And she was always the calming, steadying presence that we needed. I'm really going to miss having the side conversations with you as these recordings are going along. Just you hearing my jokes and stuff like that and giving me cheap laughs has always been really fun. And honestly, just working with you this entire time has been a real blessing. I tell you this all the time.
Diana Rossini
But you're an absolute rock star. Wow. What can I say about our time together?
Chase Daniel
Five years we spent at the Athletic. What comes to mind is working with you has been terrible. Honestly, it's been terrible because you're so dagn nice that you make me look like a jerk.
Diana Rossini
Congratulations on an incredible run.
Chase Daniel
You're a vital part of developing and growing our show. You're the driving force in putting us on YouTube, taking our show to a different level. Your expertise and creativity enhanced the product, and frankly, it enhanced our careers in the process.
Diana Rossini
And then your personality, your enthusiasm, your.
Chase Daniel
Energy, it was just so valued and important. And honestly, it's a good example to emulate. I need that camera set up well.
Diana Rossini
All right, Mariss, I know you're shy. Not. Come on. We have to show your face to our viewers. There she is. She's so mad because she didn't know.
Chase Daniel
I totally think she's crying. For sure. We love you. She had no idea we were doing this.
Diana Rossini
No. No idea. I will miss you guys so much, and I really appreciate everything you guys said and everything everyone else said. It's been really fun. And I will obviously still be listening and making sure that Chase comments back in the comments.
Chase Daniel
Yes. And she. You know, one thing I forgot to say, too, is, like, I always call her mom because she's always like, are you recording? Are you doing this? Are you doing? She's always, like, super detailed. So mom will miss you.
Diana Rossini
Yeah. There is no one who can corral this group better than you. We are going to miss you so much. You are always going to be, you know, a fabric, a part of the show from day one when. When you joined and. And. And to today, you're to be the part of the Scoop City family. And we love you so much.
Chase Daniel
I love you guys, too. You're the best.
Diana Rossini
All right. Guys. That'll do it for us here on Scoop City. Thanks so much for hanging out with us. Coming up next week, we're gonna to get more. Get into more draft stuff. Coming up, Chase is going to dive into some of the quarterback stuff because I know we talk so much about this is a weak quarterback class, but I, I want to know why. Like, why isn't it great? So we're going to do that next week and hop into that. So that'll do it for us here today, guys.
Chase Daniel
Bye, guys. Tag me next.
Scoop City: A Show About the NFL – Episode Summary
Episode Title: Will the Cowboys Extend Micah Parsons & Could the Tush Push Get Banned?
Release Date: April 4, 2025
In this episode of Scoop City, hosted by The Athletic’s Senior NFL Insider Diana Rossini and former NFL quarterback Chase Daniel, the duo delves into pressing NFL topics, including the potential extension of Micah Parsons with the Dallas Cowboys and the controversial "Tush Push" play possibly facing a ban. The conversation offers in-depth analysis, insider insights, and candid opinions, making it a must-listen for dedicated football fans.
The episode kicks off with a heated discussion about the future of the "Tush Push" play, a maneuver prominently used by the Philadelphia Eagles.
Current Status:
Diana Rossini explains that the attempt to ban the Tush Push has been “tabled” during the recent owners’ meetings. (06:12) She anticipates that the language surrounding the proposal will be reworked to make it less specific, potentially increasing the likelihood of a ban without directly targeting the play.
Roger Goodell’s Stance:
Rossini emphasizes that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell finds the play “ugly” and not in the spirit of football, despite the league's official stance citing player safety as the primary concern. (08:14) This personal dislike seems to be influencing the push for a ban more than concrete safety data.
League Consensus:
The poll among team owners is split evenly, with 16 teams in favor of banning the Tush Push and 16 against (09:51). This deadlock suggests that more than eight teams need to support the ban for it to pass, indicating a challenging path forward.
Impact on the Eagles:
Chase Daniel critiques the possible targeting of the Eagles for this rule change, arguing that it unfairly penalizes one team’s strategic play without substantial safety concerns. (10:03-12:32) He points out that the Eagles’ proficiency with the Tush Push has made them formidable, and altering the rules could inadvertently harm the competitive balance.
Future Implications:
Both hosts agree that if the Tush Push is banned, it could lead to unintended consequences in officiating and gameplay dynamics, potentially making the game more confusing for fans and players alike. (13:00-14:16)
Notable Quote:
Diana Rossini [08:14]: "Roger Goodell does not like the play. Okay. So I've been hearing about this for a while."
With the draft looming, Rossini and Daniel analyze the quarterback strategies of the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants.
Cleveland Browns’ Dilemma:
Initially perceived as committed to drafting a quarterback, recent conversations suggest a shift in their strategy. Daniel expresses skepticism about the Browns’ willingness to draft Shador Sanders or Jackson Dart at high picks, favoring a potentially available Kirk Cousins instead. (19:30-22:50)
New York Giants’ Strategy:
The Giants are similarly uncertain, with Rossini highlighting their struggle to decide between veteran QBs like Jameis Winston and Russell Wilson amid pressure on their current roster. (20:47-23:23) The discussion underscores the Giants' predicament in balancing immediate performance with long-term development.
Micah Parsons’ Extension:
A significant portion of the conversation centers on Micah Parsons' contract negotiations with the Cowboys. Chase Daniel criticizes Cowboys' negotiation tactics, labeling them disrespectful towards Parsons' agent and emphasizing the need for early and fair contract deals. (35:41-39:47)
Notable Quote:
Chase Daniel [15:25]: "Because the Eagles won the frickin Super Bowl. Jealousy baby."
The episode delves into the intricacies of player contracts and recent trades affecting team dynamics.
Cowboys’ Approach to Contracts:
Rossini and Daniel dissect the Cowboys' negotiation style, noting their reluctance to rush deals and their tendency to maintain leverage, often leading to public disputes. Daniel laments the lack of respect shown by Cowboys’ CEO Jerry Jones towards Micah Parsons’ agent. (35:41-39:00)
Trade with Patriots for Joe Milton:
The Cowboys traded Joe Milton and a seventh-round pick to the Patriots for a fifth-round pick. Rossini speculates on the Patriots’ intentions, suggesting that this move might indicate deeper strategic considerations. (31:55-34:07)
Brock Purdy’s Contract Negotiations:
Rossini provides insights into Brock Purdy’s contract talks with the 49ers, noting that owner Jed York considers him a top 10 quarterback within Kyle Shanahan's system. Daniel argues that Purdy deserves a high-value contract based on system fit rather than just talent, placing him in the second tier of quarterbacks. (40:00-48:56)
Trey Hendrickson’s Negotiations:
The Bengals’ negotiation with Trey Hendrickson is critiqued, especially after Hendrickson’s appearance on “McAfee,” where he openly criticized the Bengals for poor communication and respect. Daniel believes that such public criticism undermines the Bengals’ front office and complicates negotiations. (50:12-54:50)
Notable Quote:
Chase Daniel [39:00]: "I don't understand how they handle business. They're never in a hurry and they're fine with it."
Rossini and Daniel offer a glimpse into the atmosphere of NFL owner meetings and the interactions between media and team personnel.
Atmosphere at Owner Meetings:
Rossini describes the meetings as a mix of highly professional interactions and chaotic elements, including media personnel bringing children and casual attire clashing with the high-stakes environment. (57:12-61:02)
Interactions with Coaches and Owners:
The hosts share anecdotes about encounters with prominent figures like Kevin Stefanski and Nick Sirianni, highlighting the human side of NFL leaders when they are away from the competitive backdrop. (57:12-62:08)
Notable Quote:
Diana Rossini [59:52]: "I was hunting. Like, I'm hunting today?"
In an emotional segment, Rossini and Daniel bid farewell to their producer, Marissa Morris, who is stepping away to welcome her second child.
