Year one of the Lane Kiffin experience down in Baton Rouge is just around the corner and the expectations are sky high. What started out as most folks accepting the fact, hey, this program's got a long ways to go, maybe even a little bit of a rebuild. Well, when you go spend $40 million on a roster, those expectations change quickly. First we heard college football playoff or bust. Then you had folks at SEC media days talking about national championship or bust in year one. Elaine Kiffin, which I do think is absurd. But the hype train, the theme this offseason, it is out of control. And Lane Kiffin and LSU will look to live up to some big time year one expectations. Guys, before we dive into my game by game predictions, let's look at what our friends over at Kalshee think about the LSU Tigers. And guys, they're feeding right into the hype machine because they are high on LSU. They give the Tigers a 97% chance to win five or more games, 92% to win six or more, 93% to win seven or more, 67% to win eight or more, 57% chance to win nine or more, 37% chance to win 10 or more, 20% chance to win 11 or more and 6% chance to win 12 games. So they give LSU a better than 50% chance to win at least nine games this season. And if you're looking at the numbers, where does the break happen? Right between nine and ten, the over under per Kalshee, right around nine and a half. So Kalshee certainly high enough on LSU to say, hey, this is a team that is a College Football Playoff contender. On that note, they give the LSU Tigers a 42% chance to make the College Football Playoff. That is a better percentage percentage chance than Ole Miss, than Oklahoma and Texas A M, a trio of teams who were in the College Football Playoff a season ago. Very, very interesting. On that note, guys, let's lock in some predictions. These are my game by game predictions as we pull up LSU schedule starting in week number one as LSU hosts the Clemson Tigers night game at Death Valley down there in Baton Rouge, of course, the real Death Valley college game day will be on site. And guys, after the last calendar year or so for LSU fans where basketball was down and out, football had a miserable season, fired Brian Kelly, baseball missed the postseason, there is a lot of frustration that has built up. And on September 5th at 6:30 Central Time, when toe meets leather, Death Valley is going to explode. It is going to boil over. From an emotion standpoint, that place is going to be rocking. That place is going to be raucous as Lane Kiffin runs out of the tunnel and takes the sideline officially for the very first time as LSU's head coach. Now let me say this coming out of the gate, here's what's one of the things intriguing about lsu. So many new faces, so many new in general, over 50 plus new players on this roster. How do all the pieces gel? How do all the pieces come together? It's also a huge game from the Clemson perspective. What is the future under Dabo Sweeney? Could this potentially be Dabo Sweeney's last season at Clemson? It's crazy till it isn't right. I mean we are certainly on the back nine of his tenure there and Clemson fans are getting fed up. They how differently by the way, are we looking at this game versus this year versus how we looked at it last year? This was a game we looked at last year. Lsu, Clemson, the winner of this is on the fast track to being, you know, a top four national seed. And both these teams felt like shoe ins for the College Football Playoff. Both had miserable seasons, miserably disappointing and neither one of them made it. That being said, this is a tricky contest out of the gate. It's not like opening up with some other non conference foe. Whereas it is a kick in win. That being said, I see no way LSU loses Lane Kiffin's debut. I. I just don't see it. Guys. I think LSU is going to come out here on fire. I think there's going to be some bumps in the road and I'm not even saying this is going to be a perfect performance. But Clemson's got a lot of new on their side as well. They're bringing in a brand new starting quarterback and I just don't see that being an environment where it's going to bode very well for Clemson's chances. Again, they've got some pieces and I think Clemson could make this a competitive game. I think the spread in this one right around 13 and a half. We do have the percentage chances for this game up on Kalshee. I'd have to look at it. It is heavily leaning to the LSU Tigers. I think there's a reason for that. Guys. I think LSU wins. I think LSU wins big in this one. I think they win this one running away. I think, I think it is a celebration of the start of the Lane Kiffin era and LSU gets off to an infat stark and you know that Lane Kiffin is going to want to make a statement right out of the gate. I think he does that. LSU starts the season one and oh, and I think they do it in very loud fashion to week two. You take on Louisiana Tech in Baton Rouge. Ho hum. This will not be an issue. This will not be a problem. LSU improves the 2 and 0, gets the win. This game will be much more important about ironing out the kinks before you dive into SEC play. This will be about gearing up for what is to come in the following weekend. But I think it'll be a name, your score game, empty, the bench game. I think you could see some Houston Longstreet play at quarterback. You're going to see multiple guys, you're going to see all kinds of pieces hit the field. An offensive explosion of sorts if you will. Defense will be dominant. I think LSU gets a big win to move to 2 and O. Then week three at Old Miss, Lane Kiffin's return to Oxford. Guys, this is going to be so much more than a football game. The emotions surrounding this game you really can't even put into words. Heck, I don't know that any of us really know what to expect because we've never seen anything like this. You know, I try to think back Nick Saban's return to Death Valley and what that was like. And I've talked to some LSU folks. This is just going to be different. Like this level of hatred, this level of vitriol and it's already a rivalry. And you add in the Lane Kiffin dynamic and you add in the fact this very well could serve as an early not playoff eliminator, but a tone setter and a table setter for both of these teams who both have playoff hopes. It is going to be an absolutely diabolical night down in Oxford night game, of course at Vaught Hemingway. Place is going to be sold out. It's going to be nuts. Can you stop or slow down? Trinidad Chambers, Kawan, Lacey, how much differently do they look? Again, there's going to be so much familiarity in this game, it's going to be absolutely insane. I do have Ole Miss winning the football game. I think Ole Miss beats lsu. I think if there's one game Ole Miss wins all season, they are going to get the better of their former head coach just flat out. I, I, I, I could even argue this. I think LSU is a more talented roster top to bottom, but over 50 new pieces, 50 new players. There's a lot to figure out early. As much as we think we know about lsu, we don't know. And what I do know about Ole Miss is this. They're going to have the two best football players on the field that night. Trinidad Chambliss. Come on, Lacy. I think Pete Golding and Ole Miss get the better of you. I think Lane Kiffin drops this contest again. Wildly emotional night. Wacky night expecting unexpected. But I do think you suffer your first loss. You fall to two in one and I think Ole Miss gets the better of you in an emotionally charged night in Oxford. Then you go to week four, Texas A and M come to town. Guys, I'm going with the Aggies. I think you fall to two and two here and you're going to notice a trend. Guys, listen, I think LSU is supremely talented, but I am not drinking the Kool Aid of this national title or bus thing. I'm not even drinking the Kool Aid of college football playoff or bust. I think there's going to be a lot of kinks to iron out early with this many new pieces. Are you supremely talented? Yes. But I don't think people are giving up credit how difficult your schedule is early. Clemson in week one, then at Ole Miss, then Texas A and M. Who by the way, guys, the Aggies. They've had your number. Let's call it for what it is. Mike Elko and company. Marcel Reed. They have not had trouble solving the riddle that is the LSU Tigers. Guys, I was at this game last year. Not only did A M win, they beat the brakes off you. It wasn't even close. Marcel Reed has no problem against Blake Baker led defenses. And I'm ecstatic for LSU that Blake Baker's back in the fold because that was a huge off season win. But I gotta see it. I got Texas A and M winning this football game. I think it's another Marcel Reed master class yet again. Again, I still think this early in the season, I think LSU is ironing some things out. So I got a 2 and 2 start with the Tigers 500 record as the month of September concludes. But here's the good news, guys. Now's your chance to build some momentum as you go into the month of October. You get the McNiece Cowboys. Poor McNeese. Poor McNeese for what's going to unfold because LSU is going to put belt to ass. It is going to be a scoring frenzy. LSU beats McNiece, moves to 3 and 2. Then at Kentucky. I do not think there will be a repeat of the Kentucky loss that Lane Kiffin had during his tenure in Oxford. I know that one was at home by the way this one's on the road. Kentucky's a tricky team by the way. And Kentucky, Lexington, for whatever reason, weirdly enough, is a place LSU has not had great success. They have not played their best football up in Lexington. I think LSU at this point in the season starting to figure themselves out, starting to build some momentum. I like LSU to get the win here to move to 4 and 2. Then you get Mississippi State at home. Listen, Mississippi State, I think could be a surprise team this year. I like Camario Taylor a lot. I like Fluff, both Will at running back. I like Anthony Evans, Evans on the outside. I think with Zach Garnett at dc I think they will be much better. But I think LSU at home gonna be too much. Give me LSU moving to 5 and 2, then you're at Auburn. This one's really interesting. This is absolutely an upset alert game for LSU. I get it, I get it. Year one of Alex Golish, you know, predominantly G5, G6, whatever offense, Byron Brown. There's a lot to prove. But we all know Jordan Hare. It is a house of horrors. It can be. I'm glad this game's back on the schedule, by the way. First off, grew up on these old LSU Auburn matchups where it was Jason Campbell and, and Kenny Irons and you know, these, these games were just always really, really fun to watch between these two. Old SEC west rivalry. Glad to see it back on the schedule. The game is early at Jordan Hare. That is the good news. You're not gonna have to deal with a night game in that venue. I'm picking LSU in this ball game. But this is one. If you told me right now LSU loses. If you want to trade out, say instead of losing a M, they lose this one. I wouldn't bat an eye here because I do think this is going to be a much more difficult game than a lot of people are giving credit for. But I think LSU gets the win four straight to move to six and two going into the bye week. Then coming out of the buy, you've got the Alabama Crimson tie, which I think could be one of the most important games of the season. Could be an inflection point game. Depending on if you win or lose it, your season goes one way or another. By the way, you talk about year one expectations for Lane Kiffin in my scenario, even with the two early losses, LSU is in playoff contention going in a month of November. I would call that a win. Personally, I would call that a win for year one. Elaine Kiven. I know the expectations down in the Bayou were super high. But I think for year one, an opportunity, a chance to get to the playoff in the final month of the season. That's all you can ask for. That being said, guys, I know Bama has their own issues. I totally understand it. They got to get better on the offensive line. They could potentially. They probably will have a young quarterback who will be making his first ever start in Death Valley. Probably Keylon Russell's the guy. There's a lot to question about Kaylin aboard. But guys, we saw it two years ago. We know Kayla Bore is a big game coach. He lives for these kind of moments. And Alabama, historically, guys, they do not struggle at Death Valley. I've talked about it before, guys, Death Valley is the hardest place to play in all of college football unless you're named Alabama. They have that riddle solved and I think they will do it again. I have Alabama, I've got Bama. I think they're much better than people expect. I think they're much better people give them credit for. I think Alabama is a college football playoff team and I think they will take down LSU on the way to doing that in a really hard fought contest. Give me Kaylin aboard the Crimson Tide in this one. I think you drop this one coming out of the bye week and you fall to 6 and 3. But don't fret, still a lot of the line. I think a 9 and 3 sec team is going to make the college football playoff this year and upcoming the following week. How do you bounce back? The Texas Longhorns come to town more than likely a night game yet again at Tiger Stadium where the sun sets in the western sky and the chance of rain is never. And the chance that LSU loses back to back home games in the month of November. I say it's zero because I think LSU pulls off the upset against the Texas Longhorns. A game that by the way, we will be at. We will be in Baton Rouge this weekend. We will be at this ball game when LSU takes on Texas. Guys, the scene around that place is going to be unbelievable no matter what LSU's record is at this time. I think at this point late in the season LSU is going to get somebody. This roster is way too talented not to do so. I know I've got you losing Obama, but I think you bounce back the right way. I think it is a Lane Kiffin masterclass on the offensive side from a play calling perspective and I think LSU pulls the upset. I think they get it done. I think they beat Texas in a Signature victory, year one of Lane Kiffin taking down the Longhorns. I do think Texas is a College Football playoff team. I think Texas makes the SEC title, but I do think they will fall in Death Valley. Lane Kiffin and LSU score a huge, huge win to move to 7 and 3 the following week. You go on the road. Rocky top. Lane Kiffin returns to Knoxville. He's been there before, obviously, when he was a head coach, Ole Miss, but he's going to be going back as you take on Tennessee. Guys, I'm much higher on Tennessee than most. I think Tennessee, especially at this point in the season with Faison, Brandon, all the pieces they have on the offensive side, one of the best offensive lines in the conference, Jim Knowles at dc I think it's all clicking and I think they get you here. I, I think Tennessee does what LSU did to Texas, Uses the home crowd, uses the home atmosphere, and I think Tennessee pulls. I don't even know if I'd call it an upset at this point in the season because again, guys, I think Tennessee's an eight win team. I'm much higher on the balls than most, but I think Tennessee gets it done. Again, the atmosphere at Neyland will be next level. I think they beat you. I think LSU falls in this one and up and down November to this point, LSLU drops to 7 and 4 on the season before finally closing things out in the regular season against the Arkansas Razorbacks. Games in Fayetteville. I don't think it matters. They could play this one out in the parking lot and I don't think it would matter. I don't think Arkansas is very good. I think LSU far, far too talented. They win this ball game and they close out the regular season 8 and 4 overall, 5 and 4 in SEC play. Now, is LSU extremely talented? Yes, they are. Are there a lot of new pieces and a lot that has to come together? Yes, there is. Do I also somewhat still doubt Lane Kiffin? Yes, I do. Just flat out, guys, I understand why you hired Lane Kiffin, and I think Lane Kiffin, in the long term, if I had to bet right now, do they win a national championship? I'd probably say yes. Because he has every resource available at his fingertips. LSU will do everything in their power to ensure that he wins and he wins big. So if I had to bet on it, probably year two, LSU's in the college Football Playoff, probably competing for an SEC title, maybe even competing for a national title by year three. I think that's definitely a reality. I am someone that, as you can tell I am not drinking the Kool Aid yet in year one. I still believe in year one of new head coaches of there being a transitional period and there's more to it than just having talented players on the roster. There's a whole culture to change. How much of Brian Kelly is still left within this program. And I'm not saying there's a ton, but there's probably some. There's just a lot of moving pieces here. A lot of new pieces on the offensive side. Right. Can you run the football? Is Sam Lovett healthy? I think he is, but it's still a major question mark. It's Houston Longstreet ready to go If Sam Limbitt can't go for whatever reason. All these new pieces, that receiver. I hear how talented they are. What have they done? Are they ready to do it at the SEC level? Right. You got guys that have come from other programs that were not sec. Are they ready to contribute at the highest level? What does the running back position look like? I already mentioned what does the run game look like? I feel really confident in Blake Baker being back at dc. I think you got some guys on the defensive front that are extremely talented that need to step up and take the next step. I think secondary should be really, really good. Right. I think the defense overall should be a strength. They were a strength last year. It feels like just getting offense right is the big question. I just think. And. And I hear you. I hear people say how easy the schedules. I don't buy into that notion. I don't. It's still an SEC schedule. You still got to play Clemson in week one. Ole Miss, A M, Alabama, Texas, Tennessee, some of those on the road. Auburn on the road. There are landmines all over this schedule. And guys, I think 8 and 4. I still think you could label it as a successful year one. Again, you get to the month of November and you have a shot at the College Football Playoff, which in this scenario you have. I think that is a successful year one. Could I see LSU going 9 and 3? Absolutely. I think 9 and 3 is where I would set the ceiling. I do not think this is a college Football playoff team in year one. I do not think this is a 10 win team in year one. Hey, 9 and 3 team might actually get you into the playoffs. 9 and 3 very well might get you in. Heck, I have a 9 and 3 SEC team getting in the College Football Playoff. So nine wins could get you in. But I'm going 8 and 4, 5 and 4 in SEC play. I am prepared for the pushback from LSU fans. But again I just think in year one a lot of new pieces and I this is a big proven opportunity. This entire tenure is for Lane Kiffin because let's face it, outside of last year, what was he known for before last year? Losing games he shouldn't. Not winning the big ones. Get your popcorn ready then getting the doors blown off you. Last year was incredible. What he did with Ole Miss, awesome. I am not saying they shouldn't have hired him because I think it was the best hire of the cycle, at least on paper. But big prove it spot for Lane Kiffin as well. You're asking Lane Kiffin to do something he generally has not done throughout his career and that is on a week in week out basis. Win big games. I just I I gotta see it before I believe it. So that a brand new roster, essentially a lot of new pieces. How do they come together? Team full of mercenaries you could call them. Either way I know it's the portal era and it worked at Ole miss. Charlie Weiss Jr's over with you as your play caller. But I got 8 and 4, 5 and 4 in SEC play. That first month's going to be critical and then that closing stretch as well. Bama, Texas, Tennessee in a row. Heck throw in Auburn as well. But I got 8 and 4, 5 and tour year one Elaine Kiffin. I would still call this a success but would love to hear from you your thoughts.
