David Pollock
What up, dudes? Welcome on in to see ball, get ball. I'm David Pollock. We got Brent Rollins. We'll have Wes in here jumping in, spinning the keys back there, doing all the good stuff because a lot to talk about, man. We got. We got the draft we'll talk about obviously, which is. Which is huge. It was really, really fun. A lot of good things to talk about with the draft. We'll talk about who got. Who got the right spot. Like some people got better spots than others. A lot of times it's not how great of a player you are, it's where you land. But it was so much cool to see the excitement, the emotions of the draft. That was really, really fun. It takes you back, definitely makes you think. And then we'll talk about all the other stuff too, that's going on. Caitlin DeBoer gets a contract extension. So Bama fans interested to see who you. How you feel about that. Who won the weekend. But we'll start with the biggest news of the day. And that goes to Lubbock, Texas Tech. The helmet behind the head up here, the number one player in the portal was Brennan Sorsby and he was the crown jewel. And Texas Tech got an upgrade at that position at the quarterback spot, the most important position on the field. And now I'm not sure what we're going to get because today what we found out is that Soursby's made thousands of online sports bets via the gambling app, which. So we can track. You can track the gambling app pretty Specifically and they tracked it back to 2020 when shirting in Anna that first school that he went to and there was specific bets on a win and obviously but is betting on his own team. And I just think first, let's handle this first. The, the has created this like the media has created gambling and they've created access to it at the touch of your phone. Like everyone has access to it. My, my 16 year old son came to me a year ago when he was 16 years old like hey, my friends are doing this stuff. They're gambling. Can I do it? It's all over the networks, it's all over the place, period. You see gambling everywhere. It's the number one addiction for young people in this country. The number one addiction, man, it's, it's at their fingertips. It's way too easy. Like Vegas is going to downslide and go away. Nobody's going to go to Vegas anymore. Right. Because they have it at their fingertips. So I'm not surprised that swore Sworesby's doing it. I would be shocked if most of players aren't doing it. How they're doing it, if they get caught will be another thing altogether. The young man checked himself in to get help. So I hope for his sake that he gets help. This was a big opportunity for him. He got a big opportunity at Cincinnati. Could have gone to the NFL, you know, State of Texas Tech and you know, we talk about the NCAA all the time and we talk about their decision making and what they can't do. They do not have subpoena power. So the NCAA a lot of times can't get the facts and they don't understand what's going on. Well, they're going to have record of this. They'll have the digital, you know, basically print of him being on the app. They'll have all the thousands of of bets he went on there with. And so I'm interested to see how they, how they handle this. You know there was the Iowa, Iowa State scandal and from 23 to 25 where you had like 35 athletes and staff from football, basketball, wrestling, baseball that, you know, those are two schools that were criminally charged, you know, some after betting on sports. And there's a lot that goes into it. The NCAA doesn't play with this. Like they don't play. And this is a huge topic, a huge opportunity, you know, for them to lay the hammer and I expect they will. I don't think this is going to turn out well for in Lubbock, for Texas Tech and especially for for Brendan Sorsby. And again, I want him to go get help. But then I think you immediately go to like, how does it affect Texas Tech now? Because we talked about it on this show last year. You watched Will Hammond and you saw some moments, right? Like some moments of greatness and then it fleeted a little bit, but then he tore his ACL and he's not supposed to be ready till, till October. Ish. But he's, you know, he's the one that played. But then Kirk Francis is a junior who transferred from Tulsa, who has starting experience elsewhere. He's the only other QB who's taken, you know, meaningful snaps. So, you know, this doesn't obviously just affect sbe, you know, it also affects Texas Tech what they look like next year because they're not a team. You know, Brent, this is not a team that, where they're like, hey, you know, we're, we're okay being okay anymore. This is a team that's investing every single off season now, while the rules are the rules invested heavily in Sorsby, a big part of what they were going to do, who they wanted to be wrote on him. So there's a lot that goes into this man.
Brent Rollins
So the first thing you just mentioned there, let's touch on that. I wonder if there's some contractual things for him with Texas Tech where, you know, she not get paid now if he doesn't play and they kick him out.
David Pollock
Like, by the way, I just saw
Brent Rollins
where I know you in the NL
David Pollock
documentary thing, Cincinnati had a lawsuit against him for $1 million to reclaim, you know, money that they thought they were owed. So that was part of another lawsuit that just came to him. But you dang right, Brent, you know, good. This is business.
Brent Rollins
Yes.
David Pollock
This is money. Like, absolutely. I feel bad for him on the football field and I feel bad for them, but they're not, they're not. The NFL doesn't spend money on contracts. They don't. If you don't do your part, they're not going to give you money. So I imagine it's the same.
Brent Rollins
He definitely has a problem because he was talking about a lot of small bets at a baseball game and what the next pitch was going to be. If you're doing that, that means. And, and I think you touched on it initially. It's because it's at your fingertips, like, we already are a phone addicted society and now you have access to this and it's just like, oh, here, you know, 10 bucks, whatever, or 5 bucks here. And we just keep there you just
David Pollock
keep promoting it and we keep. We. We all know what it does and we all know what's the outcome is going to be, by the way. You're going to lose. The outcome is you're going to lose. You don't win. In gambling, like they've done all the studies. You're not going to win. You're eventually going to give. That's why they give you money to start. That's why they go here. If Lamar Jackson throws for 15 yards, you win. You get 50 bucks that you can reinvest because they know good and well they built a man. They built mansions in a desert with chandeliers that are beautiful and gorgeous everywhere. Like, they know the outcome. So we've got generation now of kids that have had access to this, and we're okay with it. We're okay with just continuing to pimp it out. We're okay. We continue to put on the TV screen, continue to talk about it like, like it's no big deal. This is a big deal, man. And this is the first step. The fact that he had to. He had to check himself in to go get help. Hopefully this wakes up people. Hopefully it'll go back to what it used to be. Because this, this is a recent trend. This didn't used to be this way.
Brent Rollins
And also when you talk about other players, if it's not kids themselves on their phones and trying to figure out ways to get around it, it's their friend's friend who is, you know, doing it for them. Likely. I mean, it's just, it's rampant. It's everywhere now. I will say, from the football perspective in the ncaa, I think he's done. I don't think he's not. I don't think he's playing. They're not going to play with this field. No. And I think. And I think he should be.
David Pollock
But here's the thing. Here, here's the thing. Why, what are the. What are the rules going to be? Because we saw it in the NBA now with Terry Rozier. That was a big deal, right? Like, we saw that at a high level. He's back, hasn't been able to come back. Like, are we going to change the rules? Because the game is profiting off of this. Like, the game is getting better. And you know as well as I do, when the TV revenues come in, you're getting a part of that, right? Like, this is how the money is getting distributed now. You're getting a part of this. So how. How are you going to make this Illegal. Where is the line that we draw this on? Like, they're supposed, it's supposed to be on sports, period. Like this. This just doesn't make sense, man. It does. It doesn't make sense. The access, the people that are benefiting from it. It's on the, it's on the networks all the time. They're benefiting from it. Which directly benefits the players. So why can't they bet? Like, why are they, why are they banned from betting? Like, maybe don't bet on their own team, their own games. Then you got to monitor that. It's, it's stupid. Like, this is a problem. It's battle something to fix it, man.
Brent Rollins
And for him, like, is he going to be the first person since. I think it was. Was Terrell Pryor the last one that was actually picked in the supplemental draft? That happens over the summer where, you know, because of the things that I forget was his. The, his was the tattoo thing. Right.
David Pollock
Tattoo, gate and car, I think too. And wouldn't be a big deal nowadays.
Brent Rollins
Yeah, but it wouldn't have been a problem.
David Pollock
And Sorsby would be a, a, a very. Sourceby probably would have been the second quarterback trach taken in the NFL draft. Maybe not. Let's get to the NFL draft, by the way.
Brent Rollins
Let's like, yes, let's do that.
David Pollock
We, we had some big surprises. I think, you know, people give out their grades. I think the biggest surprise to me was, was literally, and I know this is wrong, but like the fact that, that Brent, we're, we're talking about the Raiders, the Cowboys, the Browns, the Giants, the jets, all having great drafts. Like, that's like winning the lottery. That never happens. We're always talking about them and how they screw it up and all of those teams, you look at them and you're like, dang, man. They got really good players that are going to help their team. So that's not Cowboys.
Brent Rollins
The Cowboys one. They actually to me drafted well over the years. They just, it's what they do after the draft that royally messes them up. But the Raiders, you got the right. They got the right pick at number one. Like, that was easy. It was one of those foregone conclusions that doesn't get talked about because it's a foregone conclusion. But I think he's the right pick at number one, especially in this draft. But Jack, you know, one of the most.
David Pollock
Real quick. Oh, you know who won the most? We did the Fans making that eight minutes versus 10. It got done like 40 minutes faster. That was such a better watch, watching the NFL draft like it was flying, man. Like you don't need that much time. We don't need to wait till the, to the, the clock goes off. Like it was so much more efficient. I loved the draft this year. It was so much better than years past.
Brent Rollins
So speaking of that, were you one as a kid who sat and watched the whole thing or no?
David Pollock
No, I didn't watch the whole thing. I couldn't sit still long enough to watch the whole thing.
Brent Rollins
I assumed as much. But I was one of those sad kids that would sit and watch the whole thing.
David Pollock
And you took notes probably and I,
Brent Rollins
and I wrote it down, wrote every pick down, all that sort of stuff. But you think about that 15 minutes that used to be all those years ago for every pick in the first round, I think. And then, you know, the first round would last hours on end and never ending almost. And we'd get Kuiper and him fighting with, with people, with the Colts and all those sort of things. But. So one question we had as it relates to the draft, Big ten versus sec.
David Pollock
Yep.
Brent Rollins
That got answered here. But. There's a but to that, to me because obviously the SEC had the most picks that I think the most picks
David Pollock
ever, ever in the history of the
Brent Rollins
draft by one conference. But think about the guys that a lot of those guys that got drafted, like we talked about how it'd been 20 years since the SEC hadn't had a top 10 pick. One person went in the top 10 from the SEC. Monsor Delaney Chiefs traded up for him. I thought was an interesting trade. He was at Virginia Tech for three years, played one year at lsu. So like yes, that's a. Yeah, but you could go.
David Pollock
Caleb Downs transferred from there. I mean you could, you could do plenty of that.
Brent Rollins
I think the bigger number out of that debate was that 64 of the first four rounds were Big Ten or SEC.
Bretzky
What's up baby? It's Bretzky. And I'm here to tell you that spinquest.com is giving out free Spins Sweeps coins. All you gotta do is purchase a ten dollar coin pack and guess what? Brent Rollins
It truly is now a power to and the NFL draft is showing that
David Pollock
is, that's, that's everybody and really the power of four. Obviously you used to have those diamond in the rough from other schools a lot more but obviously they're going up so it's almost less. It's almost zero now outside the part power of four. So the Big Ten had, the Big Ten had ten first round picks though. And that was what we talked about this year. They had more upper echelon talent like they had. They had the qb, they had the playmakers at playmaking spots, whether it's wide receiver, whether it's in guys that impacted the game with pass rushers. And here's the thing, this draft was strange and weird and different. Nobody wanted to talk about it because they wanted to cover it. But like it wasn't a superstar draft by any chance? And there was so many outliers, like so many positional outliers that you never see running backs going in the top three, inside linebackers going in the top seven, a safety going in the top 12. 12, like or 11. I think it was so like you got all of these because the draft wasn't really strong because the quarterback play wasn't, you know, elite. It made it where you could take a Jeremiah Love at 3, which is so strange to have a guy come in, go, he's going to make over $50 million. The next best contract is 36. Like guaranteed money is Saquon. Like you're resetting the market. Now listen, before we had the, before we had the slotted draft, remember the first pick would get broke off like it would be absolutely Bradford. Yes, Bradford, Stafford. Like they would get silly play doh money. But now since it's been slotted, it's been different. But Jeremiah Love coming in, the first guy off the board at three at running back and to be that high was like, whoa, that's different. Now to me that says you're an alien. Like you better be discernibly great. You better go set the world on fire and do it without a QB and without a great offensive line.
Brent Rollins
Think about what local to us, what Bijan Robinson has done the last three years. Two, three. Three years for the Falcons. I think it's three. That's what Jeremiah Love has to be to. To me to make that pick worth the. The spot that is. But the part about the Big Ten in the sec, I mean it completely mirrored the college season. The higher end talent, the top of the top was the Big Ten. The depth was in the sec. She had more guys there. And it's one where. And you think about as you've added rounds to the playoff, much like the NFL playoff scheme, once you get to a certain point, scheme and talent kind of equals out more. So you've got to have the high end of high end that can make plays in those moments. And that's what it takes, I think to win in college. And it's who's going to be in the final four this year for the College Football Playoff. I'm gonna go look at, look at the teams that have the most draft picks. That's where I'll start at least from a. That or the qb that or the dominant quarterback.
David Pollock
Next year will be interesting to watch the, the quarterbacks because Arch you already see is at the top of a lot of boards.
Brent Rollins
Yeah.
David Pollock
Jeremiah Smith is also obviously a freak. But you don't take, you don't take wide receivers, number one. You just don't.
Brent Rollins
Not when there's quarterbacks.
David Pollock
Yeah. I mean you just don't do it. Like if Jeremiah Smith was in the draft this year, he wouldn't have been one. Like it's just not, it's not that he's not the best player, but quarterbacks, this is a quarterback. Quarterbacks are going to get the first crack at it. You got to get them as fast as you possibly can and the teams that need them have to go get them. And it'll be interesting to watch Julian saying next year, Arch Manning next year there'll be a lot of guys that will be in this first round high discussion. Can I throw one guy in there that nobody's talking about right now, but I think this time next year we'll be talking about him as a first round pick. Drew Mestemaker, huh?
Brent Rollins
Yeah, I agree.
David Pollock
I think, I think he's got a chance. When you watch him throw a football, man, that thing comes in hot. He can make. He's not a freak athlete, but he can make plays outside of structure that are really cool and he does it that are high degree of difficulty and he makes it look kind of easy. Now listen, he's going from North Texas and leading the nation in Passing and passing yards and, and, and yards per completion, completion, all that stuff. He's going to step up and he's going to go to Oklahoma State. But if he plays again like he did last year at Oklahoma State, that's a dude that's going to be a top 10 pick that we'll be talking about at up here. And that's crazy to think about not even starting a game in high school. Play at North Texas, play at Oklahoma State and have a chance to be a top 10 pick. Like that would be nuts. That'd be great.
Brent Rollins
We talk about the leap of players in general, about, hey, after a year one of starting well, he's literally year one. Not just he hasn't started since he was like a freshman in high school in the B team or what it was. All right, so let's go some best, some awards with the draft and see if you can get, get these right in terms. I'll give you a guess who. Best draft decision. Who wins the best draft decision award because he was on the C ball Get Ball podcast. If you asked me for, for one pick, just for.
David Pollock
How are you describing it's the best,
Brent Rollins
best decision to turn pro there. Maybe I'll classify it that way.
David Pollock
Oh, well, that's, that's our boy. That's our boy from Alabama. I mean, dude, Brent, what was, what
Brent Rollins
was the number he said he turned down?
David Pollock
It might have been around $6.5 million, I think.
Errands Advertiser
Yeah.
David Pollock
And you go, you're dumb. Like, I'm not, I'm not going to lie. If he was my kid and it was around $6.5 million. We had Ty Simpson on cball get ball before the, right before the draft, the week before the draft. And he was talking about that number when it hit him in the mouth and he was like, oh my. He said they had to sit down and have a conversation. If Nicholas, my son had sat down with me and said I got an offer for $6.5 million for one year, I'd have been like, you gonna have to take that bread, cuz.
Brent Rollins
Yeah, sign and then sign that doc.
David Pollock
And here's the here. By the way, the McVeigh acting job was fantastic because that, that was a full on exhibition of acting.
Brent Rollins
McVeigh is too calculated to not be that way.
David Pollock
McVeigh knew McVeigh has his hands with, with general general manager less need. He's in the decision making process. That dude can recall everything about everything in the history of the world. He's so smart. He was, he was going up there Acting like he wanted to make sure that his quarterback knew he had his back. That was for Stafford, bro. That was for Stafford. Just to keep him. Hey, dude, you know you got my back. Listen, I'm not happy with this. Like, this is not what I would have done, but less need. Yeah, let's get the future. Like, let's get this guy ty Simpson.
Brent Rollins
But 20 point, $25.4 million guaranteed contract, $14.9 million signing bonus. You get to learn from Stafford and McVeigh. Like, situationally, it doesn't get any better.
David Pollock
Simpson, did you think Ty Simpson was a. Was a home run? No doubt about it. Like starting quarterback in the NFL. Okay, okay, let me ask you a question. I did. I think it had to be the right system. It had to be the right fit for him because. Because of some of the markers that he doesn't check. But I'll say this as a guy that thought that way, he's a home run now. Like, I'll buy stock right now because Sean McVeigh, he could. You go to a better coach that's in. Listen, Sean's getting more, you know, 12 personnel, 13 personnel, and then they take a tight end. The next round he might go 14 personnel, for God's sakes. Like, he's going to be. They're going to be tight end palooza. But to go to that spot, if you're Ty Simpson, you. You died and went to heaven, man. Like, you literally went to such a great spot. Now, listen, the short term, is it the best idea for me, for the Rams? I don't think so. Like, I would have gotten Stafford another player. They were, they were the best team that played Seattle anyways, so. And now Obviously you got McDuffie from Kansas City as your first round pick. So I'm like, you're good for your first round pick. You got Watson, the other corner too, by the way, from Kansas City. But you think the defense is a little bit better. Add one more piece that just takes you maybe over the top to go beat Seattle. So I don't know that they help their squad. You know, they didn't listen. You got other picks too, and they got to come in and they got to do what they're supposed to do. But if I'm Stafford, I definitely would have been like Cal. I could have used a baller, could have used a big time.
Brent Rollins
They just learned from the great organization down the road from us that you take the, you take the young quarterback after having your veteran quarterback. Now, the Falcons messed that up royally. Would you bet on the Rams getting it right? I'd bet more so on The Rams and McVeigh getting that right than I would any day of the week. All right. Award for best green room. Green room. Don't mess with me because I'm pissed off right now. Show. Please tell me you saw Reuben Bane walk out when he got picked.
David Pollock
Bro, that dude looked like he was on a mission, didn't he? Hey, don't piss a T. Rex off, man. They'll bite you.
Brent Rollins
I got a shout out on the draft dash from Ugasports.com Anthony Dasher posted the the screenshot where shortest arms from the first round or something like that. That, that you happen to make the draft this year and get lit up on TV and made fun of.
David Pollock
Yeah, me and, but remember the story, though.
Brent Rollins
Tell the story. Why, why was the even the length even shorter than normal?
David Pollock
Well, Mel Kuiper was running his yapper on the, on the TV and talking about my short arms. So when I did my, when I did the drill for this, when they do the wingspan, I was like this. I was like, yeah, whatever. I want short arms because I want to stick them up your hanky. Not that I'm bitter by any stretch, but no, Reuben Bane looked like he was a man on a mission. And listen, he plays like that, which is awesome. He absolutely plays with a little bit of an edge.
Brent Rollins
He.
David Pollock
And, and so I, I, I think him in Tampa Bay, I think it's the steel of the draft to go that low a guy to go that low. Does he have short arms? Yeah, he does. He absolutely has short arms. But again, I'm not as worried about short arms when you know how to rush the passer and you know how to use your gifts and when you have such a great gift like power, Reuben Bane's power is insane. Like, that dude puts them ninja hands on you and you feel it. So they might be short like a T. Rex, but they're powerful like a T. Rex as well. And so Reuben Bain, as pissed off as he was and the way he already works the tutelage with Jason Taylor down in Miami, Tampa Bay, you should be happy that that dude is not leaving your state. And he's coming right down the street to you, man. I think Ruben Bane was the steal of the first round.
Brent Rollins
All right, next one. Best draft. After the worst college football season, this, this award goes to two teams, I
David Pollock
think who you got?
Brent Rollins
Clemson and Penn State. They had nine and eight draft picks, and it was a rough, rough year for both of those teams. Best where you got the call when you got picked.
David Pollock
Did you see that?
Brent Rollins
Did you see the clip of Kaden region? The Iowa kid?
David Pollock
No. Where was he at?
Brent Rollins
He was on the golf course playing golf with his. With his buddies.
David Pollock
I like that.
Brent Rollins
And gets the call from the Steelers and he's like. And he's like, it's the Steelers. It was. It was fantastic. But playing golf on that day, that
David Pollock
little, that little dude can roll, by the way.
Brent Rollins
So what were some of your other. Your favorite picks?
David Pollock
Well, I thought. I thought Casey Concepcion.

David Pollock
And I say that because Todd Monken's a really good offensive coach and he just got his zay flowers, like literally that that's exactly what Concepcion is. That was the least productive room in the NFL, that wide receiver room. Cleveland, what do you need to do to help? Go get a great offensive lineman and go get a really good receiver. Like immediately your quarterback play is going to be better. So I thought conception was awesome. I think Jadarian Price to go to Seattle, like that's like dying and going to heaven, man. Like when you talk about fantasy football coming up, Price, he's your guy. Charbonnet always hurt. Kenneth Walker obviously gone, but he carried that team. You're going to get plenty of cracks at the apple. And just like on Sea Ball. Get ball. Brent. When we took a lot of flack last year talking about the best running back room in college football, it was easily Notre Dame. Two first round picks like Price.
Brent Rollins
I am so same School back to back.
David Pollock
Yes.
Brent Rollins
Where the first two picks.
David Pollock
Yes, that's crazy. But Price, when you watch him, the vision is insane. But to me, the ability to feel people around him, he's got such a good knack, he knows exactly how close they are. So. And then the new outside zone scheme that he's going to be playing it like it's a perfect fit for, for Price.
Brent Rollins
I got a question based on those two names because I actually have a. To me the two like value picks. And I'll give you a choice. Would you rather have Jadarian Price at 32 or Jeremiah Love at number three
David Pollock
in terms of price 32.
Brent Rollins
See that to me is a way better value pick when you factor in the money piece. So the other one you brought up, Concepcion at 24, would you rather have Zachariah branch of 79 or Concepcion at
David Pollock
24 branch at 79.
Brent Rollins
I don't think in terms of the difference between what you're likely going to get in the league versus where they are picked, I think those two picks are potentially some of the better value picks in the draft.
David Pollock
Yeah. And again, what scheme do you go to? What, what fit? Like what, what what is system or how are they going to use you is so important with these guys, man. So important. But I think some other ones you
Brent Rollins
liked, some non first round picks, Jermad
David Pollock
McCoy, I mean how about this guy? This is a guy that you watched a couple of years ago before he got hurt and you're like that dude's, that dude's one of the best corners you'll see. I mean just had that feistiness about him, got a little bite to him, plays man to man, finds the ball and makes big time plays and then obviously he gets hurt and there's been some stuff with his recovery, obviously that's not good. But for the Raiders to get him at 101, like, I mean a guy that could have been a first round pick that has first round talent to get him at 101, that's amazing to me. Keonte, Scott, that dude, Brent, I watched that guy play football and I loved everything about him. And I know he's a, he's a nickel, I know he's a safety, I know he's probably doesn't have a home. But here's the thing, that dude near the football zero was everywhere. He was every freaking wear. He had five sacks, he had 13 TFLs, he had two pick sixes. Remember the Ohio State game, he jumps behind the line of scrimmage, reads the splits Jumps it, gets a pick six, makes the biggest play of the game. Like he was everywhere all the time to get him at 116. So the Bucks got his teammate Bane earlier, and now you get him at 116. Man, the. The draft that again, the first round picks are awesome, second round picks are awesome. But you got to draft those that meet that four through seven. Man, it has to be good. You got to get your guys that can be really good plays, players that. It might take a little bit of time and they might not do everything really, really well, but they're guys that have to start. Like, if you want to go win a Super bowl, they're guys that have to start and some of them have to surprise the crap out of you and. And be that guy that can start and be an all Pro. And to me, McCoy and Scott both have that ability.
Brent Rollins
Speaking of the Bucks, with Bane, especially watching Bane and his. His demeanor after getting picked, it felt very much like when Warren Sapphire fell to them at 12 in 1995. I think is what, 95 or 96, one of those years. But. And then also you look at the core of that defense. You had SAP, you had Derek Brooks, you had Ronde Barber, and now you go booger McFadden. Don't forget about Booger. Yeah, also Booger. But in terms of those, the three level, those levels of players, Bane, and then they get Josiah Trotter in the second round and then they go get Keonta Scott, who you just mentioned a little bit like that to me was, it's like, okay, no, you don't want to compare those to those great players. But in terms of fit and maybe revitalizing your defense, that sort of thing, that definitely there.
David Pollock
I don't like to go negative, Brent. I don't like to be a negative person. I like to be a positive person. I would say it this way. The one I didn't understand was Carnell Tate at 4. If I'm watching the Tennessee Titans, there's a lot not to like offensively a lot. There's a lot of receipt. There was a lot of receivers in this draft who really, really like. So I don't think I had to take Tate at 4. I think I could have got Tate a little bit down the list. And you saw. I saw neighbors comment about him not being a one, but Jeremiah Smith obviously is. Is the bet was the best receiver but not being a one Tate at all because a Buka was the year before. Right? So, like just not being a one. And I'm coming In asking you to perform right now at a high level and get a lot of attention, I'll say this. I. I don't know that he can do it. I know he wins contested catches at a insanely high rate, but you're about to go against a lot better players. That rate will drop. I promise you that weight will drop significantly. So does he have the juice to continue to get open? I know he's. He's a really, really good player and he's a first round pick. But four. I think there's some other guys.
Brent Rollins
Draft, huh? It tells you a lot about this draft, I think.
David Pollock
Yeah. And this draft, maybe they didn't have
Brent Rollins
somebody to tango with in terms of trading back. But what if he's Reggie Wayne? What if he's a 1A 1B to somebody that you eventually find as your 1A? And to me, I will say if you're going to spend high draft capital helping your young quarterback who you think is a guy is a dude. I'm. It's hard to find fault in that regard. But I do agree with the. Maybe a bit of a stretch.
David Pollock
And Carnell Tate is dependable, he's reliable, he's going to run the right routes. He's got the right stuff, he's got the right technique. I understand that part. And where the draft kind of went next was David Bailey. Like it was Arvel Reese or David Bailey. And that was the debate. Everybody going in, that was a big debate.
Brent Rollins
You said Bailey when our. We. I asked you on the show beforehand, you said Bailey and that's who the jets went with too.
David Pollock
Well. But I think you agree why, right? Like it's. It's less of a project, it's more of a guaranteed. And if Bailey was not a really, really good player, if he was just. If. I mean, he's a. He was a great player. Like Bailey shows you the repertoire. He shows you what he can do. I don't care about his run defense, by the way. Nobody cares about his run defense. You play on the edge. It ain't that big of a deal. Like I want to see you go get the passer. And I think him being so great at rushing the passer, Reese has the potential to obviously be there and be great. And you do see flashes of him off the ball though, where he's a blur and he's doing all kinds of cool things, how they are deployed. I want. I can't wait to watch Reese. Like where. Where do you put him? Where do you settle with him? Because Micah Parsons to Me was similar. Like you could play him at linebacker. You could play them on the edge. You can move them at three technique if you wanted to. Arvel Reese has that versatility like crazy. And again, Malik Neighbors was very curious with with John Harbaugh and in the pick and how he's going to use him. By the way you talk about John Harbaugh being a stud. Everything you needed to see, like the way he handled Neighbors and that pick. He put a suit on Mr. Professional and did his thing. That is exactly why John Har has been so good. Because he gets it. He gets people. I immediately he because the comment Malik Mabers made was how is he going to use them? I'm curious. Don't love the pick. So be it. Everybody has the right to their opinion. But then he goes and sits down with John Harbaugh and John Harbaugh says, well, this is how I'm going to use him. And John Harbaugh tells him, I guarantee you, I need you on board with this. Like I need you to be on board with this. Who's the first guy to meet Arvl Reese when he comes in the building? Malik Neighbors. Like, that's great coaching.
Brent Rollins
Yes.
David Pollock
The Giants have not had a lot of that. Usually it's a tabloid after a tabloid. Another page, another story on another page of why something's happened. It's got to be nice to have an adult like Harbaugh. Like just.
Brent Rollins
That's just the Patriots now. Best character pick. I'm gonna go two of them. Navy for the first time since 1956 gets two players drafted. Landon Robinson goes to the Bengals. He's from Akron, Ohio. And the Eli Heinrich goes to the Steelers. He's from Pittsburgh.
David Pollock
And salutes the mirror. By the way. That was one of the best moments of the draft. He's crying like that was so awesome.
Brent Rollins
Interestingly enough, great draft analyst Mike Renner, who used to work at PFF now does CBS sports. He listed out all the physical and testing stuff between Heidenreich and Christian McCaffrey. Literally a carbon copy. And maybe even Heinrich had maybe a little bit better vert. Different players obviously, but it was just an interesting thing. Some I think just be the best for just be big, strong and fast story. I don't know how to say exactly Bernard to the Eagles at 251 the international player program. 643-064-633 40 and 39 in the vert who has never played a down of organized football got picked in the NFL draft.
David Pollock
What was his body percent Fat, by the way.
Brent Rollins
Oh, it was low.
David Pollock
He's like 300 pounds and his body percent fat is like 4. I mean the dudes, his, his ears has abs like the dude's just shredded up, yoked up, doesn't know how to play. And you can watch him move. He doesn't know how to like move like a football player yet. But that's a who. The Eagles take the guard years ago that played very much football and then they turn him into an absolute baller because he's, he's a rugby player. Right. He's 6 foot 10, 360 pounds. His feet were elite. And then he comes in, they develop him after a couple years and he's a baller.
Brent Rollins
Yep.
David Pollock
So that's, that's what you do in the seventh round. It's a great ball.
Brent Rollins
That's what you do.
David Pollock
You, you take, you take some traits and you say hey bam, roll them dice. It might come up good, it might not. But I wasted a seventh round pick. That ain't big of a deal. What about my man that I, that I said must draft right on a note card. What do you think about my boy d' Angelo Ponds going to the Jets?
Brent Rollins
And what was funny is I was watch. I had it on the NFL Network at that time and are you an
David Pollock
NFL network over ESPN guy?
Brent Rollins
100%. I'm. No, I, I can't. Daniel Jeremiah, four letter, four letter network. No, I don't want any part of that. Yeah, I'd rather listen to Daniel Jeremiah and others that are with them there versus what they have on espn. Reese does a great job on their part but outside of that I don't, I don't really want to listen to that though. I did, I did see the clip with Ryan Day talking with Saban sitting there and they were talking about Caleb Downs and he said yeah, when he first got here to al to Ohio State, we were like man this kid's messed up. What were they doing with him at Alabama? I thought was there a good, good point. But Dan Jeremiah's comp for your boy Pons was Aaron Glenn and now that's goo who he gets to go play for for the Jets.
David Pollock
Well considering the jets had zero interceptions last year and I'm not kidding, they had none, none, zero interceptions last season. D' Angelo pawns next year will have more than their whole team had this year. That's a. Write it down. Take a picture. I know.
Brent Rollins
All right, so my sort of favorite non first round picks, let's give you a choice to Pick one of these. So I think our Mason Thomas to The Chiefs at 40 was a great one. Eli Stowers to The Eagles at 54, good fit. Carson Beck to the Cardinals at 65 and thus Meyer to the Chiefs of the seventh. I actually think those were good spots for them. And then Colby Young to the Bengals at 140. Those are, those were my favorite sort of non first round picks. Which of those would you go with in terms of pick you like the most out of those?
David Pollock
Well, it's a cop out but I'm going with my other T. Rex friend and my other shorter guy, our Mason Thomas. Like just, you know, you did the Chiefs. I mean I just, I'm not going to lie, the Chiefs to me won the draft. I mean and it's on so many levels. And then we'll get to that. We'll get to Kaylin DeBoer right after this. The Chiefs make the, make the trade and they get Mansoor Delane who's a perfect fit for what they do. He's a man to man corner, the best guy in the draft. Perfect glove to hand fit, unbelievable fit Starter day one impact player lost my corners had to do it. Well, that's not why, that's not why. They did a great job though to add Peter woods and our Mason Thomas with, with, with, with our man. Now when, when you can, when you can put him and think about, when you think about their pass rush, you think about Chris Jones and that's it. Like this is okay, but like you think about that now, you put an athletic defensive tackle next to him. You put Jones on the perimeter a lot. You put Mason flying up field with that quick first step, making things happen. And again that's a good draft, but that's not it. Emmett Thomas led the Big Ten in rushing. You know what he was second at in NCAA in the whole football league? Catches out of the backfield. You got your third down back. He has so much wiggle. He is so good with. That was a. We talked about this a lot. Brent, when you rated Nebraska's offensive line, did you rate them very high? They were terrible. They were awful. And Emmett Johnson consistently made people miss and did such a great job. He led the Big Ten in rushing and again second in the FBS and catches. And then you go in the fifth round and get Cyrus Allen who every time you watch Cincinnati was a deep ball. Touchdown. Deep ball, touchdown. What routes did he run? Goes and fades. Hey, when did KC look really good? When they had some speed on the outside with guys that could go get it right. And then you, like you said, then they circle back and get Nussmeyer. Like if, if our guy is in a pinch Mahomes and he's, and he's banged up, he can't play. Like Nussmeier can make those plays. And you pair him with Andy Reid who's really, really good at his job. Like man the Chiefs to me just home run after home run after home run and they give themselves a chance because they couldn't close right now you brought in some guys next year. They can help you help close a
Brent Rollins
lot of fun draft stories. Yep.
David Pollock
All right, let's get to the next. I am, I am interested to, I would love for the Bama fans to, to reach out in the chat. We would love to hear from you this. Kaylin DeBoer gets an extension and I, I'm curious, I really am curious. Like how do you feel about Kalen DeBoer getting a contract extension? Calyn DeBoer is a good football coach. Like there's no debating that, you know, in his career right now. Well, first of all, let's talk about the money. So now It's a new seven year contract. 87 and a half million dollars, 12.5 a year. If you're wondering about what that means. Indiana, Kirk Signetti because he won, it's in his contract. Great, great negotiating. 13.2 a year. Kirby Smart at 13 million a year. Lane Kiffin at 13 million. Kaylin DeBoer at 12.5. Ryan Day at 12.5. You know I think you could argue lane Kiffin at 13 but obviously he got paid that Caitlin DeBoer. Now he's 20 and 8 at Alabama. That's pretty good. 9 and 4, you know 11 and 4. So showed some, showed some improvement from one year to the next. Recruiting is really good. Like his recruiting has been really, really good at Alabama. Really good QB play. Ty Simpson development, being able to get high ranked QBs. He's doing a good job. Draft picks, they just put out a shoot ton of draft picks. So, so that's a lot of really, really good things to give Kayn DeBoer a contract extension after. I'm not going to say disappointing. Everybody was going to take a step back. It's why Nick Saban quit. Nick Saban quit because he knew what era of football was coming and knew it was going to be difficult. So to go 9 and 4 is not nothing to sneeze at. 11 and 4 nothing to sneeze at. Here's where I would Say why I wouldn't have done this. And then I'll say one reason why I think Alabama's smart. One, the bad losses, like to me it's the, it's the bad losses. Like you can't lose to Oklahoma at the end of the season. Last year when Oklahoma two years ago in Oklahoma had no clue what they were doing, right? Like they were struggling like crazy to figure anything out, couldn't even score. And then all of a sudden they score all over you. Like those big time losses coupled with, with those, some of those flops coupled with Florida State would be another one the next season coupled with where's the run game and the physicality? Like, I just, I want more from the run game, from the physicality. I think DeBoer is a great offensive coach. He's done some really, really good things. But because of the, the, the bad losses, because of the lack of run game and fresh off a drumming from Indiana, like a very uncompetitive game with Indiana, they got beat by 30, basically to Indiana, like, is now the time to get that contract extension? They didn't have to do it. Here's what I love about what Alabama did. Buyout after this next year. You know, January 2027 is $10 million. The next year it drops by 2 million. The next year it drops By 2. The next year it drops by two. So the buyout ain't crazy. That's pretty smart. I like that they gave him more money. But you've seen the buyouts, man, the buy. Some of these buyouts are crazy. If you bought them out after next year and everything went really, really bad, 10 million ain't that bad of a buyout. So it's not, you know, that side of it. I really, really like do. Do I, Brent, you got some clarity on that buyout, by the way.
Brent Rollins
So I think the buyout, if I'm not mistaken with this, is if he leaves. No, if they fire him without cause, they just. After the end of this, this season, they go, you know, seven and five and they fire him. They owe him 90% of the remaining contract. I'm pretty sure that's how I read that.
David Pollock
Oh, well, see, that was the. Honestly, that was the thing I was kind of holding on to that I thought was good that Alabama did really well in this. I thought it was the buyout. So if that's not the case,
Brent Rollins
I'm almost certain I might be wrong.
David Pollock
Well, I'm going to trust you.
Brent Rollins
If he leaves and it keeps decreasing and I thought a lot of it was based upon the thing. But yeah, he's got like they owe him most the entirety of that $87.5 million if they get rid of him.
David Pollock
Caitlin DeBore is a good coach. He's done some, he's done really good against ranked opponents by the way. He's done really well against ranked opponents. Done well in SEC play for the most part. Man, it's tough for me to swallow after that beat down of Indiana like the way it ended last year. It was progress still. But yeah, it's, I don't know, I don't, I don't know if I could have done it. I don't know if I could have done that. And listen, I'm not saying he's not going to prove us wrong and I'm not saying he's not going to be a good coach because he is a good coach. This situation was impossible for anybody but, but I, I, I wouldn't have done it if I was making the decision. I wouldn't have done it. Would you?
Brent Rollins
No.
David Pollock
Okay.
Brent Rollins
I get the, you know, with other schools wanting him potentially with the, you know, the Michigan's, the Penn states of the world that were potentially reaching out and trying to get him but I, I don't know that I would have done that but. And again I tried to read that and write that down. Right. I might wrong. If I'm wrong, people can kill me in the comments and tell me I'm an idiot.
David Pollock
We're going to use.
Brent Rollins
But I think that's.
David Pollock
I'm wrong.
Brent Rollins
I think that's, that's right. But it's, I did look at the Bama on 3 site and it was a lot of people were like whoa, what are we doing here? This seems a little quick and a lot of okay, I get it. Little, you know, a little bit of everything.
David Pollock
Well, awesome opportunity everybody. Wrong. But exactly. If he, if he gets it right
Brent Rollins
with Russell, if he gets it right with Russell, then yes. And you're rolling with the qb.
David Pollock
Doesn't matter.
Brent Rollins
Everybody feels good.
David Pollock
All right, who won the weekend? Brit Rollins, who won the weekend for you?
Brent Rollins
Couple things quick. Our weekly update for for Kendall Wells home run counter is now at 36. She's one away from tying the NCAA single season home run record Baller. She had some against George this weekend for another one teams that did not have a player drafted power four teams so they didn't win the weekend. Colorado, North Carolina, Oklahoma State, Purdue, Syracuse, ucla, Virginia, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and Wisconsin. Teams that did not.
David Pollock
That would hurt you to say West Virginia, didn't you. You didn't want to add that?
Brent Rollins
It did, but. And then the other random sort of thing about the draft and you've. Being a Gwinnett county alum, will appreciate this. Only 15 states, so, you know, not many, not many had more players drafted than Gwinnett county high schools.
David Pollock
That's pretty good. So Gwinnett county, one, yes, but the other where I went to school, Shiloh High School's finest, baby. Let's go.
Brent Rollins
I do think they didn't close out the series against the. Against the Rockets, but the fact that LeBron's, like, throwing alley oops to his kid and he's still playing and carrying a team in the playoffs, he's the ultimate answer to the who's lived up to the hype more than any athlete ever. Like, it's like if Arch Manning wins the Heisman, the national championship, and three Super Bowls, that's what LeBron is.
David Pollock
But is he the goat?
Brent Rollins
No.
David Pollock
Okay.
Brent Rollins
That's not greatest career.
David Pollock
Not greatest career of all time, for sure. To be still doing it is. Is absolutely insane for me. Who won the weekend? Not the Falcons, but it did involve the Falcons. So Falcons fans were used to kind of being let down. Sometimes it happens a little bit. But Avion Terrell joins his brother AJ Terrell, with the Falcons. Two cornerbacks, two brothers playing in the secondary together. Like, what a win. The Terrell family, like, congratulations. You thought you were going to have to go to different cities to different games, pick and choose. Like, hey, you. Maybe mom and dad split up, maybe some of the family members. Nope. Same uni, same stadium spot. You can get you a nice little box, compliments of the bros. And how about that? Then brothers get to play with each other. Not. Not brothers from another mother. They're from Atlanta. And now they get to be Atlanta Falcons together. That's pretty dang cool. All right, do that, like, thing. Do that, right thing. Do that subscribe thing. We continue to grow. College football is around the corner, dude. Like, it's literally inching closer and closer. And we appreciate all the support. We will be back here with you guys on Wednesday, like always. Peace.

On NCAA gambling hypocrisy (Pollack):
“Why can’t they bet? Why are they banned from betting? Like, maybe don’t bet on their own team, their own games. Then you got to monitor that. It’s, it’s stupid. Like, this is a problem. It's battle something to fix it, man.” [08:35]

On Chiefs’ draft wins (Pollack):
“Home run after home run after home run and they give themselves a chance because they couldn't close. Right now you brought in some guys next year that can help you help close…” [41:26]
