A KFC tale in the pursuit of flavor.
Brent Rollins
The greatest insult the Colonel ever suffered was being served a wrap that was just a snack by a friend. So he took two crispy tenders, lettuce, tomatoes and pepper mayo and wrapped them in a soft tortilla. It wasn't a snack, it was a meal. He called it a twister and never called that friend again. The Colonel lived so we could chicken the twister. Now back at KFC Classic or with bacon. Also try it spicy.

And how about that Pollock interception in the end zone. Well, it's David Pollock and I think people are going to learn what kind of ball player he is. He's got a heart of a lion. I'm really proud of that kid.

Brent Rollins
What up everybody? Welcome on in March 9th. Calendar is ticking. College football still very much in the news. You know, trips to the White House for a lot of people involved in all of, all of college sports. We're not going to get too deep into that. But great conversation with John Summerall, the new coach of Florida. We'll get to that in a minute too. Talk a little usc, talk a little numbers, talk a little non conference schedules, a little bit with Sankey and the SEC and then who won the weekend. So we'll get to it all but I think first we'll cover usc. You know Lincoln Riley when he went to usc, remember how big of a freaking deal that was? Like that was enormous. Like they paid for his house in Oklahoma, they bought his new house. Like his contract was insane. Fresh off of every quarterback he coached. Being a high draft pick of the number one pick with Mayfield and Murray and, and, and winning Heisman trophies and going to the college football playoff and not winning the big one but getting there and USC fans we would take that now like that was a team and we ain't sniffed it since that point and we would love to get it now. So can they possibly get it? I think it's a good combination of to have coming back for USC because it does start with, with offense and it starts with head coach, OC quarterback and all of those are check, check, check. And not a lot of places can say that in the country. So you got continuity, you got the whole offensive line back including, including some transfer portal additions that you'll also add to that mix. So a lot of experience, the number one recruiting class in the country. They signed the top class coming out of high school transfer portal, but coming out of high school kids and including, not surprisingly, some big names, some guys that will contribute. I think right away that we'll talk about in a bit. They lost Ant Lynn to, he took off to his alma mater at Penn State. A defensive coordinator that had come in and kind of stabilized. And then they bring in Gary Patterson, long time coach, great defensive coach. Now listen, football has obviously changed. He'll be in a new environment. But like, you know what you really want? You really want to start with some dudes in the trenches and you got that with Jakeem Stewart and Cameron Crawford and Braylon Shel. You got a lot of guys back that were highly recruited, guys that you saw spurts and you saw really good things out of them. So this is a defense that I think is going to, to continue to get a little bit better. I think the personnel has really amped up the past couple years and there's no different now. And I. That's not even naming, you know, they got 46 freshmen and sophomores on this roster for USC and there's going to be a lot of, of these guys that come in and contribute, you know, pretty early on to usc. So I think it's, I think it's, I think it's. That's a good spot to be in with Gary Patterson with some studs in that and we can name some safety, we can name other folks too. They've got some good guys coming back. I think when you look at them, brand new facilities, which used to be the thing by the way, like everybody used to kind of like if you built a weight room and it was the biggest square footage wise in the country, like you cleaned out a closet when somebody beats you and you added to it. Just to say you had the biggest and best facilities in usc. They had really, really bad facilities. As someone that went all over the country and saw all these schools, they didn't have great facilities even when they had, when they're in their heyday and now like upgrading their facilities significantly. I think the biggest thing is when you have myava back. Jaden Mava, who played great with Lincoln Riley. But what did you see from them? Weapons Palooza out wide and now what are you going to see? You're going to see them drafted like Lemon will be a first round pick in the draft, you know, and so who plays wide receiver for them? You saw Hines step up. He'll probably be the number one guy and he had made some big plays, was a TCU in the bowl game. I think he made some big plays. And then Terrell Anderson from NC State comes over and then Mosley and Dixon, Hyatt or Wyatt, excuse me, highly recruited guys that are going to step in. And Brent, I didn't worry about the schedule because I know you always are going to have that covered. Brent Rollins from On3 from PFF, I know you'll have that coverage because the, the schedule.
Co-host Analyst
Yes.
Brent Rollins
I mean I would say right away, immediately, with what they have coming back and the talent that, that, that Lincoln Riley has been able to bring, I would immediately say in the playoffs, like right away, like they, because they take another step. Because last year you saw a step. And then I say, well they would take the next one. Then you look at the schedule and who they play in conference and like God dang. Like that ain't, that ain't real fun.
Co-host Analyst
No. Because they get Oregon, Washington and Ohio State at home and then they have to go to Penn State and Indiana.
Brent Rollins
Yep. So that's not, that's not, that's not what you want ideally. And remember they, they've obviously got to go across the country. So when people come to them, they got to go across the country. When you play those teams, by the way will be really important too now because of the weather that will change things with usc.
Co-host Analyst
But I think a lot, lot to unpack. First thing, you talked about Gary Patterson.
Brent Rollins
Yeah.
Co-host Analyst
As new defensive coordinator. And if you look at USC's defense under Lincoln Riley last year at 23 points a game and 51st in the FBS was the best defense they had. Yes, can. And Gary Patterson hasn't like officially in a coaching capacity since 21, I think was his last year at TCU. He's had sort of analyst and off field consultant type roles, but not like in an official coaching capacity since 2021. So can he get them to like 20 and a half a game which puts him in the top 30. Yeah. In the FBA. Like that to me is a major question because you're going to do it with a lot. Like it's a lot of the young guys and it's a lot of youth that you talked about. But in the secondary, yes. But Highland talent. But.
Brent Rollins
And that's what I'm most interested probably with Gary Patterson is like we've seen him make lemons. Like we've seen him make lemonade out of lemons. Right. Like he's taken, he's taken guys that were under recruited. Not talked about as much as and made them stars and made them draft picks. Now he's going to have more guys with more ability day one and but, but football's changed. It ain't the same as it was when he left the Big 12. You remember that conference was absolutely asinine. Points all over the place. Defense started to become optional. Defenses have evolved and listen, I have no doubt Gary Patterson will as well but that, that is, that is the biggest component. I'm not worried about this offense because of the continuity. I'm not worried about it at all.
Co-host Analyst
Well what's interesting about this team and you think about sort of the identity of this team. You've got six offensive linemen coming back. You took the whole offensive line but six of them played 300 plus snaps because of the various injuries they had. Guys got snaps last year that are coming back. You've got King Miller who is now on scholarship, not a walk on anymore one you know, won all the awards or got a lot of awards for that. And then Wayman Jordan coming back and then my other. But you lose the receivers like if you can play good defensively you might be more of a ground and pound like just a different identity than what we're used to seeing them have to be previously under.
Brent Rollins
Well and I think, I think that's one of the miss biggest misnomers about Lincoln Riley. Like everybody thought talked about fun and QB play and that was great. That was a big part of it. You're going to run the ball like you're going to get counterpalooza like you're going to get it and especially when you have a quarterback that can pull. Now my Alba doesn't have that sick burst but he makes enough plays and has enough patience in the pocket and chill that he'll. He'll still make plays and run and run around. But those running backs, man, here's the thing. It doesn't matter who plays running back for usc. It doesn't matter Lincoln Riley is going to. They're going to produce in the run game because of all the offensive stuff they do off of it. The interesting thing to me was will be if that is the case and they are more ground and pound which I think they can be like what about the tempo? I'll be interested to see how they use that because the more you use tempo it does hurt your defense. It's a part of the game man. Like whether you like it or not like it makes your defense play more snaps, puts them on the field more naturally. You're going to give up more yards, but you just don't want to give up those touchdowns. I think the biggest names are those guys that I mentioned, Stuart Crawford and Shelby. It's the talented defensive lineman. Now when you watch tape of usc, when I watched him last year I was like who's that guy NFL big who's eight? Like who's that big sucker in there that's moving quick and fast and big? And I'm like, I ain't seen that in a hot minute. Like I haven't been able to do that. So I think when you're starting with there as Gary Patterson, that's a great start. And but Lincoln, man, Lincoln with a proven quarterback that knows his stuff and a running game with an offensive line that has all those steps or all those experience, man, I just, I think this is, I think you're heading for a great year at usc. I think you're going to back up that number one recruiting class and I think this is a playoff caliber team.
Co-host Analyst
So one area though where in the identity piece goes to where to me my Alva needs to take his next step. He has to be better under pressure. He led the FBS last year with 13 terminal worthy plays, six picks under pressure and like you could see oftentimes it was him like okay, I know I have to make a play because I've got a score I've got to do. Like we've got to keep up those sort of things especially in the bigger games. So like if you up the defensive part a little bit with the talent, with the things you're talking about, he plays under pressure, better run game, what it is. Receivers, you're always going to find ways to be talented at that position there. Like I, I just think that's, that that's the next step for them to be that playoff team. Which one, quick question. Number two in the FBS in terms of turnover worthy plays in the FBs last year, QB Arch Manning. No, my Evo was one, Arch was two. So. But the freshman like two, two to me that are need to be impact guys almost instantaneously. And one is the guy who was like top five nationally, number one by some of the metrics. The edge Luke Waffle, the kid from New Jersey. Like I've even seen some of the A Day in his Life Already videos with him him at practice and things like that that he's already doing. But the other is Mark Bowman who the school down the street from us wanted badly and USC paid top dollar and got him. That's Tight end from, from cali. Where's number 19? Sort of height, weight, speed. Not maybe not speed, but height, weight, that sort of stuff similar to Bowers in that ill.
Brent Rollins
Here's what I'll tell you about Bowman. I will tell you right now. The day he steps on campus, he'll start as a true freshman and he'll be an impact player in that offense. He'll be a bad man. Like he'll already be a guy that you go, God dang, he's really, really, really, really good. So I, I can, I can guarantee you that that dude is an absolute baller. Like a lot of people don't hit in recruiting. That guy will hit. That guy is a stud after the catch. He's, he's got that running back type style like Bowers, so not surprised he wears the number. And if you don't think, like, if you watch Lincoln's offense and all they do and all the running and then they pull it and throw it in the tight end in the seams and they'll hit them and they've had some good ones, they've had some big body ones. Throw an athlete in there, I promise you he'll be able to use it. And usc, I think you got some reasons to be excited about. All right. Caught up with this cat earlier and I, I, we're going to, we're going to show you a clip of what you're getting and then you can go find it on the channel. But I think that this is pretty, pretty good indicator of what you're going to get with John Sumarall. And the intensity and the competitiveness I
John Summerall
get, I got, I grew up getting to go like baseball tournaments and go fishing, but she want to know, can we go to Disney in Orlando? And then my seven year old daughter, she, honest to God, my seven year old daughter, her name's Sarah. Her name has meaning, so in the Hebrew, Salem means to pause and reflect. We didn't just pause and reflect with her, we stopped. She's our fourth and our last kid. We were having no more kids. And so her question was, dad, can we win at Florida? I'm like, you damn right we can win at Florida. Like, but she literally asked my 7 year old daughter goes, dad, can we win at Florida? That's really all I'm worried about. I just want to win. Like, she's a maniac. All she knows is winning. So her five years of life, or five of her last, she's seven years old, but her last five years we've won 53 games the last five years I've been coaching, 43 is a in the last four as head coach. So she thinks you just win 10 games a year. It's like, like all she knows. And, and so she, she legitimately asked my 7 year old daughter, Sailor looked up and goes, dad, we can win at Florida. And I'm like, yeah, we can win there. And she goes, all right, I'm cool, let's go.
Brent Rollins
And so that's amazing. So yeah, that I hear a lot
Co-host Analyst
of
Brent Rollins
when you, when you say, when your 7 year old is thinking like that. Like you can say he's a competitive dude. Like he played linebacker at Kentucky. Intense. It was really cool to sit down with him and talk, man, because he was, I think there was a lot of mixed reviews on the higher end, what everybody thought and hiring Buster Faulkner, we talked about that and the process and why he hired Buster. But I think Florida fans, he talked about the offense. You'll like hearing about high powered offense. That was priority number one and how he implements things, what makes him tick? If you want to know what makes him tick and what makes him go and how he, how he does his stuff and doesn't hire friends. Like he's, he's, he's, he's a good one. He's, he's a good one. Brent, he's got some, he's got some different quirkiness to him that I really, really like and I think guys will respect because it' no nonsense. Straight ahead, straight ahead. Like right at you. Like I'm gonna call you out. You're gonna do what I tell you to do.
Co-host Analyst
Have you seen the comments that he made as it relates to the strength and conditioning component? I think I, I read, I'm almost certain I read some comments he made about how. Yeah, that was one we needed to up a little bit. We needed to get better there and it's like, oh, okay.

Isn't that always interest? It's always interesting to me like you have to set your tone and like you have to say like you basically have a decision to make. Do you want to crap on the last, last staff or do you want to just say like hey, I'm just going to do it really, really different. And, and he was, he was really good because he was like, you know, we just wanted to do it different. Talked about why he kept, didn't keep some coaches, why you didn't want coaches to be a friend. So go check that out on the channel. You can check out the, the sit down with coach. It's, it's worth your time, I promise. All right. Numbers. We do this. Brent, you got some numbers for me? Non conference schedules numbers. Is that what we're getting into?
Co-host Analyst
Yes. So it's one that actually I'm stealing from, borrowing from our mutual friend, bald friend, Chris Bear Felica. But he was talking about how teams with zero power forward non conference games and one of them we've already talked about and that is USC because USC has San Jose State, Fresno State and then Louisiana to open their season. And this whole, it's a interesting dynamic because of the conference and the SEC now going to nine conference games much like the big tens already had but you have sort of two buckets. And speaking of that, every ACC team and every SEC team has their conference games and then Plus a Power 4 non conference game. Georgia Tech even has three like Colorado, Tennessee and Georgia.
Brent Rollins
Good luck with a new OC and a lot of new players. So say that. Say that again though. Every ACC and SEC team has at least one Power 4 team on their schedule in the non conference, in the non conference, every single one. So by the way, we heard this for forever. We play more conference champ, more conference games. So we change the way we schedule. Well usc, Indiana, Nebraska, Penn State, like you ain't got none.
Co-host Analyst
And we've seen the benefit of it the past, I mean 100%.
Brent Rollins
There's a huge benefit to this past three years. You saw Texas last year miss the playoffs because they didn't. All they had to do was schedule a cupcake and they're in the playoff.
Co-host Analyst
So I'm going to look run through these teams and sort of look at two buckets. So the first bucket is Arizona. So these are teams without one, without a power forward, non conference game. Arizona, Houston, Texas Tech, Kansas State and Washington. Those five teams don't have a power four non conference opponent. However, all of them either play like Washington State or Oregon State, which back in the day technically was a Pac12 Power4 team. They just aren't anymore.
Brent Rollins
So I used to be in really good shape too.
Co-host Analyst
So that, that's, that's one bucket. The other bucket are four Big Ten teams. So USC that we've already mentioned, Indiana, Nebraska and Penn State. So those are the teams that don't have a non conference powerful opponent. So my question sort of off of this as we've seen the benefit of it, is there a. So like Texas Tech and Indiana obviously were in the playoffs a year ago and that's the expectation this year too, like is for them to be in the playoffs. So among the others, so like Arizona, Houston, Kansas State, Washington, Nebraska, Penn State, usc, who are you looking at as a. Hey, that's a playoff team. Like that's a sneaky playoff team that maybe I'm putting in pencil right now because of schedule benefits plus the talent and their team and all the sort of things.
Brent Rollins
We already talked about it with USC and I think that that's. So we've already covered that one. So I'm going to, I'm going to say that one. I think USC is firmly in the mix. Like I think they're a solid contender. I think you'll see them in a lot of brackets and you should Washington Damond Williams back again I think gives you a chance. Like just, I mean, you know, and listen, that was some drama that went with it but, but they kept him and that's all that really, really matters. The roster is going to continue to get better. They're proving more and more. So Washington is another squad that like they're not going to be an easy out man. Like they're, they're going to get some people. Like they're going to be a team that is going to scare the fire out of people because they've got a quarterback that can absolutely ball. So I would say, I would say Washington is that the next team on that list.
Co-host Analyst
I was actually looking at both Arizona and Houston as a potential challenger in the Big 12 because of all they got coming back, QB coming back and not having this. Now Arizona has to go to BYU and to Texas Tech. So that's not necessarily ideal. But like, in terms of like one of these, I think there's going to be a Texas Tech and then a team that nobody's thinking about in terms of being in the Big 12 championship. I don't think it's just going to be a run back of what we saw.
Brent Rollins
Happens all the time, right? It happens every year. And Kansas State will be interesting to watch. How different do they look like Colin Klein from there? Obviously Colin plays. I think that he's got a chance to do something and you know, who maybe untap Avery Johnson a little bit, right, like, and just settle him in and make things easier for him and then maybe it goes, you know, somewhere else. I don't know. But I do know this about all those teams you mentioned and talked about, like Ohio State, Texas, Miami, Notre Dame, FSU, Bama, A& M, Arizona State. Thank God we got some good ones. Thank God we still got some people that will go out and take some challenges. And listen, if I'm making the decisions, I ain't gonna lie to y'.
Co-host Analyst
All.
Brent Rollins
Like, if I'm making the decisions, I'll probably do. I'd probably do the former rather than the latter. Like, why would I challenge myself if I don't need to? If the name of the game is making the playoffs to keep my job, to keep people excited, to make more money. Like, that's what you should do. Like you're supposed to look out for the best interest of your business. Like, that's like saying, hey, I could take on this, this other company in business and really go at them and try to try to be right next door to them. Or I can separate myself and not have to worry about them. Like, that's smart business, that's smart economics. So I get it. And I think that as long as we have this system and if we keep doing what we did a year ago and we don't reward people for playing folks at a conference, then get ready to have a lot more of this.
Co-host Analyst
I actually went and I gave a top five and I was going to let you maybe choose in terms of how it went for, for number five, but maybe, I don't know, you might have some argument with my top five. So top five non conference power four games that we got numero uno is pretty easy. Ohio State at Texas. Week two. Which week two is going to be like last year we had those three monster games. Week one, an opening weekend, Labor Day weekend. This year it's week two where you get two monster games. But so that's one top best game. Two Miami at Notre Dame. That's week 10. Three Oklahoma at Michigan, also week two. So there's you got two big time games. Week two, four to me now there's some others. I've seen various rankings, but this for me, Notre Dame at BYU in week seven is a just massive game to me because if BYU has that similar year that they had a year ago and Maybe they've got two conference losses, but they're sitting there at 10 and two with a win over Notre Dame, like that's, that's a massive feather in the cap for BYU since. Especially since it being a home game.
Brent Rollins
Well, and how important is that game? Because Notre Dame is going to be afforded to lose one. Like they're going to be afforded to lose one. Yeah, I think to make the point
Co-host Analyst
they've got three that we kind of identified with, you know, two here already. Miami, smu.
Brent Rollins
It's really two. Like it's really, really. I mean I, I think it's, I think it's those two really at a conference. And I'm glad we have something for them because we do want to be able to like start comparing them to people and having a good barometer that you played at least one good team or two good teams. Right. Like that's a, that's an interesting thing. I think BYU will be interesting as well. I mean there's not a guarantee that they're going to be world beaters by any stretch. But I know one thing, they got a quarterback that's going to be a handful to tackle for a whole game because that's a grown ace man who's
Co-host Analyst
only going to get better as a
Brent Rollins
true sophomore and hopefully not bigger for the people tackling it.
Co-host Analyst
All right, so the, my fifth one though, I kind of, I'm not sure. So I've got four options as the fifth best non conference game. Power four game, Ole Miss, Louisville. So that's Nashville opening weekend. It's good, solid Oregon at Oklahoma State. And I, and I mainly sort of put this one here for two reasons.
Brent Rollins
For my.
Co-host Analyst
Because I think it's gonna be a good, good name. Two, you've brought up the Cowboys. Three, you interviewed coach Morris. It's on the channel. People should go watch. So it's a like a free Plug for the, for the video there. So that's another reason, you know, all the reasons that I listed that game, SMU at Notre Dame and then the other one, I don't know, is Clemson at LSU opening weekend. Are you like, is that a game where it's like, okay, I'm dialed in to see what this is and what it can be. Is that a number five for you, huh?
Brent Rollins
Go Tigers. I, I think it is, man. I mean, I, I think it's just, you know, it's two huge brands. Like, listen, it's not going to be what we were last year. It's not going to be as like we were all on the edge of our seat, excited. I was there this past weekend, by the way, Nicholas took a visit to Clemson. It was, yeah, it was really, it was really, really interesting to watch them and to see the culture and how they do. How they do things and how they. And I, I was, I was super impressed. I was super impressed.
Co-host Analyst
Him. What did he.
Brent Rollins
Oh, no, sorry. He was very impressed. I, I asked him out of 10, how was it? And he said it was a 10. And I was like, well, that's pretty, it's pretty good now.
Co-host Analyst
Doesn't get any higher.
Brent Rollins
No. And he's Nicholas. So that like the heart rate still didn't raise. He was still like this. But, but it was, it was a good place. But no, I do think that Clemson, lsu, I do think that's a, I think that's a good one. I would probably put that one on the list. Battle for Death Valley, Battle for revenge. Fun one to watch a rematch from a year ago, like. But is there any, is there any doubt about number one? I mean.
Co-host Analyst
Oh, yeah, no.
Brent Rollins
Ohio State, Texas is number one. I would have Oklahoma and Michigan High as well. I would probably have that.
Co-host Analyst
You put that above Miami, Notre Dame.
Brent Rollins
I might put that at two.
Co-host Analyst
Yeah. Okay.
Brent Rollins
I mean, so that'd be both of
Co-host Analyst
that be your top two non conference games in week two.
Brent Rollins
Well, that's the thing. You don't get Miami, Notre Dame until what, like week seven?
Co-host Analyst
Week ten.
Brent Rollins
Week ten. So like, I'm not one of those persons with patience. I'd rather, I want. I'm gonna get that earlier.
Co-host Analyst
It's better to have those, those kind of games in the, in the opening year. All right, so I think as a question that maybe segues us a little bit to the next thing. Do you think there will ever be, I guess, approximate uniformity with the schedules? I don't think you can ever say, hey, this schedule, everybody's kind of equal. That'll never happen. But you can get as close to equal as possible, at least in terms of things like this where it's like non conference, one power forward, non con.
Brent Rollins
I think we get to the point where we have crossovers from similar divisions. So you're playing common opponents, which is going to be great. But everybody. Yeah. You have to. You might match up like the NFL will match up with another division. Right. Like the NFC south will match up with the AFC south out of conference or whatever it is. And I think that's, I think, I think that'd be a really good thing to do. I think we're going to get to where we shrink down conferences and there won't be as many. Like you said, perfect segue to the next to the next.
Co-host Analyst
Okay, one other thing did I have. I maybe I've mentioned it to you on here, but my idea, I think I've long thought the bowl game should be in the beginning of the season. And you just, you do the, hey, the ACC number this team plays this conference's whatever team. And you do that in terms of getting all these guys.
Brent Rollins
Why not just tank the rankings from the year, the week, the year before.
Co-host Analyst
Yeah. And do whatever, however you want to do that to match those things up.
Brent Rollins
But just take the matchups from the year before. Yeah. And that, that would give. And again, the ultimate thing about that to me is it gives you data. Like now I have data to support league, league against league crime. And I've, I've always, I've said this for years and I'll say it again if you haven't heard it. But like I want to everyone to play an ACC team, everyone to play. If you're an SEC team, you play an ACC team, you play a Big Ten, you play a Big 12. Like your crossovers are other teams like teams that you can lose to, teams that we can get gleam something from and some kind of challenge. So I'd love to see that. Now Greg Sankey, he might not agree. Like it's interesting man, we got so much of this stuff going on. But Greg Sankey was, was asked and he was asked about does he think the SEC should leave the the NCAA basically and break off. And we've, and we've talked about that for years. Like listen, there are two power players in college football. It's the SEC and it's the Big Ten. Like money wise. It's just, it's a cut above like they have more resources, more schools with, with everything, with all the things like there's just a lot more to those program. There's like the TV deals are asinine. They, they have the networks that are asinine that are making serious, serious cheddar. Um, but, but Sankey was pretty outspoken about. No, we, I, I don't want that. And I, and I think first of all, before we get to his comments, okay, I am not a political person. I don't talk politics. Not my thing. I don't want to. But listening to some of that stuff that came out of the White House, like some of it was awesome. Some of it was good. Some of it was like, oh holy hell. Like holy hell. Like, do you, this is why you don't want people in, in, in government coverings things, right? Like there was a couple of times where you're like oof. No, no, no, that's not, it's not what I want. But, but interesting. The Urban Meyer, the Nick Saban, the folks that have been in it are strong proponents of limiting the kids abilities to make money. And like they were very big proponent, basically big proponents of small government. Right? Like limiting it and getting it down. And I've seen a lot of people that have said that's interesting. A lot of people that have spoke
Co-host Analyst
out about it, especially considering just them and listen all the things as it relates to stuff they've done in the past, like as players get paid, they get out like lots of stuff there.
Brent Rollins
Well and Nick has made it very clear that's why he got out. It was a harder system to coach in. Like Nick was not going to be able to sustain the success he had. Like and I think that that bothered him and that's part of life, right? Things change and you get out. Urban Meyer hasn't gotten back in probably for that reason. Like it's definitely harder. But yes, the kids were definitely getting paid.

Brent Rollins
Getting paid well back in the day, plenty of stories that would be another podcast and one that we can't have. All right. But he said, I think the interesting thing about Sankey, he said I'd be glad to see everyone stay together. He talked about having we have a regional sport and we've taken a regional sport and make it, made it national. So I think the biggest takeaway to me though, he said we have problems that we need to solve and I think every fan loves hearing that because everyone knows there's problems, like there's problems in this sport. And I love the fact that like we need to get them solved. And he said if we don't get them solved, maybe we need to make a change. And that's to me, the only thing that came out of it that's really, really important to me is like, okay, if they can't finally agree, which getting Petiti and him to agree apparently is not a good thing. Like, there's a serious power struggle and we're, we're, we're seeing who has the bigger. Like, we're, we're definitely comparing and it's a back and what Brent, why did your mind go there? The bigger playoff bracket. 2412, 16. Goodness, Grace.
Co-host Analyst
Like 24 is where you were going, right? You were just gonna say it's eventually going to get to 24. Because 100. Hey, if you're a coach and you're like, hey, if I'm going to be measured by making the playoffs, I better just have let's have more teams in the playoffs, which I can say I made the playoffs.
Brent Rollins
Can't stand. I can't stand. I do not. I can't tell you how against 24 I am. Like, I've been against expansion. Is it gone? Not going to lie. Love 12. Listen, 16 is my max. Like I, I've seen enough data the past couple years to go. There's a couple of teams I would have loved to see in the party the last couple seasons wouldn't have been upset seeing Notre Dame like would not have been upset. Seeing Alabama the year before that, Ole Miss the year before that would have been awesome. Like South Carolina would have been amazing two years ago. There's some things I would have loved. I ain't got no desire to see 24. I have no desire to see people shut the season down. 3 with three weeks left because it doesn't matter. Out, I'm out. I want no part of that. So, but, but I, I, I think it's interesting because I mean, listen, if this is what it takes for us to get an alignment and to go in the same direction and start to get the game in a better spot, I'm in. Sign me up. Like leave and go, go, go find a way to co, to co op, to work together.
Co-host Analyst
And his comments are interesting because
Wesley
the,
Co-host Analyst
the national part of it is really what football has become. The SEC is one of the ones that's actually unique in terms of, for the most part, the regional component is still there. Like look at what the Big Ten is now. You're coast to coast. The ACC is coast to coast. The Big 12, like West Virginia goes for like gazillion miles to go play BYU or something like that. The SEC is at least still regionalized in that sense. And that's one where it's like, okay, does football being its own entity away from the NCAA where you can potentially get back to the true, where all these other sports can become regionalized again? I think that is something that's there. But that, the whole White House thing, being in academia, I knew exactly how that was going to go and what that looked like. That looked like some of your professors about football. No, it looked like an academic meeting. Because in academic meetings, guess what? You have, you have 15, 20, 30 people in a room who all have PhDs and you know, or doctors or specialists in their field. So guess what? Everybody has opinions and it's like, okay, there's my opinion. Okay, then there's my opinion. Then there's my opinion. And whereas you typically to get, actually get something done, you just need three to four people.
Brent Rollins
Yeah.
Co-host Analyst
So that, and you know, that's, it's obviously the political part of that, but still it's.
Brent Rollins
Listen, I, eventually we'll get to somewhere about it. I like that we're having conversations. If this stimulates us to get to a point where there is that and we get to lower numbers and there's people in the game. But, but here's what I'll say, here's what I don't like. I don't like that you have the SEC because we're talking about Sankey or the Big Ten, whatever it is, and you have all these different teams that are in different states and now we're playing by different rules. That's a stupid thing to me. We need to all play by the same rules. It's not, it's, it's not a fun game. While we're not all playing by the same rules. Like, listen, are people going to cheat? Yes, people are going to cheat, but when you have consequences and people have consequences for their actions, when they get caught, they'll get in trouble. But I would love to see the laws reflect everyone in the conference, the laws reflect everyone in the sport. And so let's get to that point. And to me, it's going to be Big Ten and SEC finally coming together, agreeing on what the number's going to be going to be collectively bargaining. At the end of the day, we're going to get all. Everyone to the table. But again, we need players in that room, too. It's awesome. Congratulations. Go do your little meetings. Get some players in there too, man. Like, players are going to have a
Co-host Analyst
voice, recently graduated players or something. Somebody who went through it.
Brent Rollins
Someone has to represent the players. Someone has to do it. So at some point we're going to have to get to that. So we're gonna have to get to that point. So that's the shout out.
Co-host Analyst
Johnny Knoxville with the Super Chat, he thinks there shouldn't be any rankings until week three or four. I actually, yeah. Tend to agree. I could. I wouldn't mind that whatsoever. It won't matter if, like the TV thing because, like Ohio State, Texas, like, we know they're two of the better teams, but it's, it's so much different when it's 1 versus 2 or, you know, 2 versus 4 or something like that. It's a little. Adds a little extra element, that's for sure.
Brent Rollins
Well, and listen, we're. Go back to what I just said. We're a show of the players, so we're going to get some. We'll get some players on and we'll continue to talk about this. Some X players. I think that'll be fun. All right.
Co-host Analyst
And ask them their thoughts on this.
Brent Rollins
Yes, that'd be great. All right, last thing. Who won the weekend? Let's get to some winners. Brett, you can kick us off.
Co-host Analyst
I actually have two, so the first one, I don't know if you. Maybe even three.
Brent Rollins
That's cheating. Oh, it's.
Co-host Analyst
It's the off season.
Brent Rollins
Okay. All right, I get down with that.
Co-host Analyst
So first, I don't know if you saw this.
Wesley
Way too many.
Brent Rollins
Attaboy, Wesley.
Co-host Analyst
Well, two of them are local, so that, that helps. But the South Carolina offensive line coach, Randy Clements, so I don't. One of the beat writers showed a drill for South Carolina, an offensive line drill, and they were doing moving, shuffling, going through the shoot, things like that. Well, Twitter just blows up on it. And like all these offensive line people and we're like, what in the world's going on? Why are we doing this drill? Dumb drills, like all that sort of stuff. But then coach, you would appreciate what coach did later in the day. Wes, did I know you. I'd sent you that. He tweets out his video of. Right here, let me. Once it gets pulled up, we'll take a look at it. But he tweets out, coaches, make sure your drills show up in real time. So he showed the exact drill that he was doing that everybody was sort of mocking and talking about. And then he had the game clip right beside. It's like, hey, this is what we're doing. So he's like, I come with receipts.
Wesley
Love that.
Brent Rollins
I like that too. I like anybody that gets to fire back. Like, hey, man, back off my drills.
Co-host Analyst
Two other quick. Two other quick ones. So first off, I know you've been like dialed into the World Baseball Classic because you love baseball to dial degree doubt. So like, did you see what the 17 year old kid from Blessed Trinity High School did?
Brent Rollins
No, no, I didn't. He's.
Co-host Analyst
He's a 17 year old high school kid. Joseph Contreras, his dad Jose, pitching the bigs for the Sox. He's playing.
Brent Rollins
Yeah.
Co-host Analyst
So his son is a pitcher who throws 96 to 98 miles an hour. And he's 17 years old and senior in high school, pitches for Brazil in the world baseball class. He comes in, he has to face Aaron Judge with the bases loaded and got Aaron Judge to ground into a double play. We beat his high school like north. We beat their high school team on Tuesday. He obviously wasn't there and didn't pitch. But like, think of that as a 17 year old kid that you got to go to the mound in that thing and face Aaron Judge.
Brent Rollins
And you, you know, that reminds me of. It reminds me of Cooper Flag playing on the USA team.
Co-host Analyst
Oh, yes.
Brent Rollins
Like just you're watching him, his highlights and you're like, what the heck? That dude's. That dude's 17, 18 years old and he's doing that in high school. So That's. That's pretty big, Joseph.
Co-host Analyst
One last quick one. Do you know who leads the NCAA Softball Division 1 in home runs right now?
Brent Rollins
A hundred percent. That would be your former player, home girl, Kendall Wells. And she went out of the stadium the other night.
Co-host Analyst
Like, please, please tell me you saw that. Please tell me you saw that.
Brent Rollins
Oh, I saw it, bro. I saw.
Co-host Analyst
No, we got some Sooner fans in here. Sooner, cowboy. Like, how much are you enjoying her playing for your softball team? She is a North County Titan.
Brent Rollins
North Oconee Titan. An absolute freak show. Kendall Wells has the best swing. You'll see dudes. Girls like she. And she's. She's. She. She had in our final four game last year that, that we played, she had 36 and 23. 36 points, 23 rebounds. Like absolutely a stud muffin in the chat. Yes, Boomer Sooner. She's that bad. She's a bad girl. Like, so she hit a home run
Co-host Analyst
in the first game. And I'm. I went on. I knew this. I thought this, but I went on Twitter, I was like, she's going to break every home run record at Oklahoma. Well, for. Forgive me for not knowing Oklahoma softball statistics. So it turns out that basically the top three or two of the top three in the NCAA history are Oklahoma players and recently.
Brent Rollins
Hot take. Hot take.
Co-host Analyst
She's gonna beat it.
Brent Rollins
Hot take. College softball is more fun to watch than college baseball. And it's true. Anyways, who won the weekend? Yeah, I'm putting type and smoke it. Better than World Baseball Challenge, too. All right, who won the weekend? The big fella. My big homie, Jordan Davis. One of the best dudes you will ever meet. He's. He was at our golf tournament several times. One of the biggest human beings you will ever see on the planet. That also moves. He blocked. Remember they blocked a field goal last year? He picks it up and goes like 60 for a touchdown at 350 plus pounds. And guess what? My man just got that lettuce. Three year, $78 million extension, 65 million guaranteed. The highest paid defensive tackle in NFL history. My man. Make that cheddar. Unbelievable, dude. Two star, two or three star kid out of North Carolina, that Coach Smith, when he came from North Carolina, when he came from North Carolina to Georgia, kind of brought over. And one of the stalwarts with Jalen Carter for those natties. One of the biggest dudes you could do and gets. Gets rewarded. Makes that lettuce. Wesley, who you got? Who won the weekend, homie?
Wesley
Got a couple notes. The Sanki Quotes that was on the Paul Feinbaum Show. I know you're a daily viewer. You forgot to mention that.
Brent Rollins
My bad thing.
Wesley
Who on the weekend for me, Brent says my volume's low. Who on the weekend for me was Florida State. Florida State announced once again that the Nose will not have a spring practice game. And I know other schools do that.
Co-host Analyst
Me.
Wesley
It's a big win for everybody involved because the Knowles are kind of getting back to square one. Coach Norvell is running the offense. You got a transfer quarterback morale might be low with the fans down there in Tallahassee. So why put everybody through the rigmarole of watching a spring game? I think it's wonderful. Just keep things under wraps. Go back to the lab and get better for 20, 26.
Brent Rollins
Okay, so I want to ask you a question because I. I was kind of wondering when I saw that, that you were going to say that because you kind of took. You've taken some. You've taken a shot at Florida State or two.
Wesley
Like, that's not a shot. I made the winner of the weekend.
Brent Rollins
That was actually. Yeah, but that was kind of a backhanded winner of the weekend. Hey, dude, you won the weekend. Florida State. You can't win on. In the fall. But you won because you didn't play. Play a spring game. Like I. But I mean, are we out on. Are we out on Florida State? I mean, you seem. You seem kind of down, like on Florida State. It doesn't seem like you think that a lot's going to happen in Tallahassee. Is that fair?
Wesley
I think that the Knowles are not wrong on what they're doing. They're just early. Okay. They're just like stocks. They're down. They're down right now. But I think they can pump with
Co-host Analyst
a lot of help.
Brent Rollins
A lot of help and a lot of luck. Well, they play Bama in the non conference this year. That should be fun.
Co-host Analyst
Oh, yeah.
Wesley
It's gonna be great. That's gonna be good in Tuscaloosa. Revenge game. Gonna be awesome. The likes, by the way, from. From you. Not like on the channel. The videos. Your, like, count is going down. I've been counting.
Brent Rollins
Okay.
Wesley
Charting them. It's kind of like DPs.
Brent Rollins
Yeah.
Wesley
Most people have.
Brent Rollins
We've got. We're working on it. You got to get it fixed.
Wesley
Yeah. You're working on. I can tell you're working on it, so good job.
Brent Rollins
We're not gonna. We're not canceling a show for it like Florida State. We're not canceling the spring game. We're gonna keep playing, but we're gonna cut out the.
Co-host Analyst
No there.
Wesley
I mean, there are other schools that don't do their spring games, and it started because of the tampering stuff, but I don't know if that really matters now because of the window closing.
Brent Rollins
Right.
Wesley
But coaches didn't want people scouting their team, so. Yeah. Thank you all for watching tonight. We'll be back on Wednesday evening. Go check out that combo with Coach Summerall. We got another one coming up later on this week as well. I think some Cyclones fans might enjoy that.
Co-host Analyst
Hit.
Wesley
Like hit. Subscribe. Y' all have a great week. Don't let the daylight savings clock beat you. I mean, it is merciless. See you.
