What's up everybody? David Pollack here of C Ball Get Ball podcast. I hope you like it, man. Be sure to follow the show Wherever you subscribe, YouTube or any of your other platforms. Welcome on and everybody, prediction season is is here. Been racking my brain. I know Brent's been racking his brain. Brent Rollins joins me as always. David Pollack here. C Ball get Paul. Thank you all for continuing to help us grow. Brent, these are the most interesting times because sometimes I feel like just taking a dart and throwing it, you know, for the predictions. But we got some, we got some good ones coming your way. Some, some surprises that you'll like. It's that time of year with injuries, you know, like the camps you're starting to see, you know, guys getting dinged up at different spots. And as a team you're always like, just please make it through camp. Like make it through camp and don't and don't get anybody hurt. And Florida and Texas right now, you know, both of them have, have injuries that probably will affect the start of the season for them. And when you start the season off like both of them do this year, I mean both of them, they don't have like tune up games. You know, they start in the first three weeks and they're off to hit the ground running. Obviously Texas Week 1 with Ohio State and then when you look at Florida, their schedule, you know, listen, last year that took care of Miami really easily or Miami took care of them really easily. But this year they'll have Miami, lsu, you know, to start the season, which is going to be tough.
Brent Rollins
And the, the Florida one I think is more because if, if the Wilson kid, the freshman receiver is out.
David Pollack
Dallas Wilson. Yeah, yeah.
Brent Rollins
If he's out for any. I mean I think I saw a thing where a couple weeks lower leg thing, you know, who knows will he be there for game one? Hope you hope so because you want all those kids. Because I even somebody asked me, I was on a radio today and someone said something about, you know, watching this camp battle, this can't battle. I don't really care. I know they're going to compete in camp. I know the coaches are going to play the best guys. I just want team, I want all these teams to be healthy. I don't want kids to get hurt. And like the Kojo kid that's the right tackle for Texas that's was competing for a spot there, ACL out for the year. And as much as anything now with the portal and now with the way this works, those teams that's a depth piece if it was a starter. Okay. And you, if you felt like you had, okay, I got three guys that I can start at offensive tackle. Two. I'm gonna start. Your depth is hurt. And then now that the next injury is oftentimes the one that's the worst because now you have to play oftentimes a true freshman or somebody that's never played for you before. So.
David Pollack
Well, and you still hate Texas do it last year they had to do it at tackle when they were dinged up. And that's obviously when you're making. And here's the thing, these schedules are longer than ever. They're asking the kids to do more than they have, you know, by adding games to this. So it's making it more NFL like more toll on the body, which means more injuries. More games equals more injuries. And so, you know, a lot of times the healthiest team down the stretch. That's why depth matters. And Texas obviously has a lot but. But takes a shot. And then.
Brent Rollins
Oh, by the way, speaking of schedules, I, I saw a note today. I'd seen this and I'd forgotten to bring it up. When you, you know, you were showering Miami with all the flowers the other day with. You sort of have that good feeling. Do you realize they don't leave the state of Florida until November? Yeah, that's insane. That's a no. And they, you know, late November, they go to Virginia Tech and Pitt. But the entire first part of their season in the state of Florida. Amazing. I thought that was unreal.
David Pollack
But with that is lately when you go to pit and V, though, it's going to be cold. It's going to be cold. Like that's a, that's a disadvantage. You know, at SMU is not that bad. But it's all the game. Listen, there's a reason I got that feeling. The schedule has a lot to do with it. The experience at quarterback has a lot to do with it. Lana scrimmage has a ton to do with it. But how about the. The Saturday down south, man, the Netflix documentary, if you haven't seen it. No, it's. It's not any given Saturday. Any given Saturday. Just the take off from any given Sunday. Man, if you're ready for football, like and you're getting in the football groove and you want a little bit of that in your veins, Netflix does it for you. I mean, it's, it's going through the different teams, it's showing the different atmospheres and it feels like it's game week. And I thought the coolest part was they took you behind the scenes during some of the biggest games and the biggest upsets. And so, like, you got to see the coaches. Like, you know, one takeaway, for me, one of the biggest takeaways is like, you got to see Billy Napier in the fire, like, with crosshairs looking at him after the Miami game, you're a bum. You're a bum. And some stuff we can't say, like on television or on a podcast, we won't say. And. But just to watch his demeanor. And I'll tell you this from watching and when we're. We'll take this piece by piece so we don't exhaust everybody with all of it. But, like, to me, the big winner was Florida. Like, watching Billy Napier, I. I would feel good about the dude that is the same in the storm, out of the storm, in the winning. And then I would feel really good about DJ Lagway because if you didn't know his personality, I didn't know his personality. Like, learning about his personality. That dude, he's honest, he's a flatliner. He's open like he is. He is everything you want in a big time quarterback. And you also saw the dynamic with Graham Mertz and probably why Graham Mertz had the starting job. Like, that's what's so cool, man. Giving you a behind the scenes look at personalities. His personalities matter for coaches. Like having a leader, having a guy, a voice, somebody that holds everybody accountable, that brings juice. And when we get to Pavia down the road, the definition of juice, you know, I thought it was pretty cool behind the scenes look that you probably want to peep out everybody.
Brent Rollins
Yes. And with Lagway, by the way, he also plays with his own team and he was using himself as the quarterback on the college football game. I thought that was interesting that they showed him doing that. It wasn't like he was playing with another team. Yeah, you should.
David Pollack
Did you see. Did you see who he's playing?
Brent Rollins
I did. I think he was playing Georgia right when they played.
David Pollack
He's playing Georgia. Yeah.
Brent Rollins
You know, Brian Kelly, we saw a lot of Brian Kelly. We saw Brian Kelly's dad say, hey, Ole Miss can win the whole thing. I thought that was quite hilarious.
David Pollack
They were close. What did you think of Brian Kelly's personality? And just what they showed and was that like, you probably haven't spent much time with him. What did you think about seeing that behind the scenes and seeing how he talks to his players and stuff?
Brent Rollins
The political background seemed kind of appropriate. I guess in a way, he seems very, very politiciany oftentimes. I did like one of the quotes he had. I need to be demanding, but not demeaning. I thought that was at least one good thing that I think he pretty well.
David Pollack
I mean, and unsuccessfully at times. We've seen him on the sidelines, but.
Brent Rollins
It'S one of the things where you watch LSU and you see that it's literally the same story this year. The same things. We got to win game one, our defense has to get better. It's a repeat. And you're just seeing it as it played out last week's or as it played out last year. So, you know, it was. He was interesting. Beamer was who I thought he would be. I did think it was interesting that their house was in a cul de sac. Not by itself. Like they were. Their neighbors, were right on top each other. I thought that was just random. But Sellers was a good personality to get to know the. The steak place and then Chick Fil A and Wingstop. Those were the three that he said those were the only three places he eats.
David Pollack
So ain't nothing wrong with that. Find a place that you like, stick with it. I'm all for that. I thought Sellers personality kind of gave you a little something into it, too. He's an underdog. He's got that. It. He's got the chip on his shoulder, you know, type of a guy. And then, you know, Beamer, you know, Beamer's fun. You know, like, the one thing I've always appreciated about Shane when you're around him is he's fun. He's. You know, you saw him taking his. He showed the superstition. Taking his family, you know, to eat somewhere, and they're like, we don't change if we win. We. We don't change. But again, losing to LSU, when you're up 17 to nothing and you should have won the football game, you know, conveniently left out a few plays in that game, by the way. Netflix didn't show a few penalties that were very controversial. But. But just like. And then watching him talk to his team, and I just. I find that part really cool. And I think fans will find that part really cool, like getting behind the curtain, like, what do these coaches really say? Because. And then when we get to Vanderbilt next, it's. It's super interesting, too. Whenever we do that, the next show, we'll probably go through some of the other teams, but Beamer, fun, South Carolina, you know, with him, it'll be intriguing. I feel like and then with Sellers in his personality. What was on Sellers helmet? You pointed out this to me earlier. What was.
Brent Rollins
Did you notice that they had a GoPro? It looked like it was GoPro on his. On the helmet, right in the middle of his helmet. So I'm assuming they're downloading this and watching and watching his eyes and seeing where he's looking and. Or he can review what he saw versus what he should should have seen. That kind of stuff. I thought that was very. I've never seen that on a quarterback's helmet. I mean, I've seen variations of that, but not that specific. The GoPro right in the middle of the helmet.
David Pollack
Technology changes so much, man. And it just, it's so helpful. Like, they have the VR goggles now, too, that you see that they put them on and they can literally, you know, choose the defense and they can have, you know, a guy blitz. And it's just like very much. It's getting mental reps for the quarterback to put them in a position where they're. When they're on the field, you can do it. Jaden Daniels talked about doing that and cranking them up, you know, hyperspeed. So I, you know, technology definitely changes and gets better and helps you, you know, continue to grow and get better. And, you know, Sellers is obviously, you saw the transition, too, from the specs early in the season to losing the specs, which we saw a year ago. But that's a. That's a grown man. Like, I, I just. And I like the way Shane talked about him. Like, he saw him on seven. On seven wasn't the most highly recruited guy, but something about him stuck out. And there's still something to that, man. Like, there's still. There's still a place for that in college football. Is those guys that. They just got something different about them. It's not just the arm talent. And that's why Graham Mertz, I think you saw, like, he played more and had had a spot ahead of Lagway. Lagway made mistakes as well. But Graham Mertz, he's got juice. He's got energy like he demands, you know, of his. Of his team. So all that was good. You should check it out at any given Saturday. I don't know what they'll do this year for. For an encore, but that was really cool behind the scenes. All right, new segment on the show. I'm excited about this podium king. Like, this is. This is fantastic. Like, we love all the sounds and we kind of talk about them and we post them on socials and stuff, but like giving you some sounds of the coaches because we're going to. This will be easy throughout the season because, because this is a gift that keeps on giving with, with different coaches and, and we're in the offseason, but we got a few candidates for you, for you now that we can listen in and, and let you hear.
Brent Rollins
Stuff like that.
David Pollack
Yeah, I mean, polls are always accurate, so I think we should really lean into it. I like the smirk by Dillingham after he says polls are always accurate. And if you can see it our on our stream, like he's got the biggest smirk on his face and obviously talking about something we're going to talk about in a minute. But the coaches polls, you know, coming out and this is always better for us than, than coaches and players. Obviously they don't really give a crap. But Dillingham, I think Brent is going to make this list a lot.
Brent Rollins
Yes. And there was one, I think earlier in the week where he was talking about, you know, something about five and seven or, you know, seven and five or whatever. He was talking about the energy and practice, things like that.
David Pollack
They asked him if it was a good pract and he was like, yeah, if we go 6 and 6, 7, 7, like just diamond out his squad. It was fantastic. I, I know you, I know you saw the rich rod and you probably bookmarked it, circled it, put it on your mirror. Brent's die hard West Virginia guy probably plays it to him every night before he goes to sleep. But what'd you, what'd you think of the rich rod? Actually, here it is first and then I want to get your take, Mr. Mr. Mountaineer. Did they get an extra workout? No.
Brent Rollins
You? Yeah, I mean like you said, two.
David Pollack
Guys, two running backs.
Brent Rollins
I punch myself and the coach.
David Pollack
No, no, no, no. I'm just curious what you meant by you only had two running backs make.
Brent Rollins
It through the workout.
David Pollack
Yeah. Without tapping out? Without. No. They get breaks during pr. I'm not. Like, we had no trainers, no medical trainers. We probably had zero injuries because they had nobody to go to. We got 30 of them. So they're like, oh, where's the trainer at? And I got a great training staff. But no, I just say that. I just. You can stop it now. Like what Running backs. He goes on. Basically only two running backs, you know, made it through practice. What do you, what do you think about your, your lead man?
Brent Rollins
Oh, it was, It's a con. Such a contrast between him and Dillingham. Dillingham is like, I know I'm good. So I need to make sure that I need to get every ounce of these guys at every practice. I'm going to use the media. Rich Rod knows he stinks right now, and he's got to get any, any way, shape or form, get better and all right, I'm going to find a way to be like, hey guys, you need to get a little tougher. And I thought that was just glorious by him. And he's not going to mince words ever, so.
David Pollack
No, he's old school. He, he's, he is, you know, he's one of those, you know, dying breeds. And it's obviously different in today's football that you, you don't see many of those like you're used to. So we'll continue podium king because that will be fantastic throughout the season. All right, we did all our previews, Brent. We got, we got all of our teams done. We got one more.
Brent Rollins
Well, did you see the. I know you love this. Did you see the walk ons? Get some scholies today.
David Pollack
We had, I posted this.
Brent Rollins
We had.
David Pollack
This was fantastic.
Brent Rollins
The one at Texas and then there's also one at Auburn, right? The kid, the kid from Auburn, Cameron, by the way. Not Cameron. Cameron King from Auburn got that one. So that, like the videos there. There we go.
David Pollack
Yeah, I don't think, I don't think we're gonna do sound for it because it took a little bit, but like it was.
Brent Rollins
Yes, those are the best. Asking questions, like personal questions, like, we've.
David Pollack
Been showing those for years on the socials. It's the best. Like, I'm always going to show those. Those are, those are my favorite ones in the world because. And it's not the, it's not the coach announcing it. It's the player reaction every time. Like, it just remember, it reminds me what it's like to be in a locker room when you get swarmed by your dudes. And I also thought it was really cool by Cameron saying, like, you know, Coach Freeze asked him, do you get treated different because you're a walk on. He was like, no, sure don't. And you know, then let him walk away. Calls him back up. Like you can see on the video. Yeah, it goes nuts. But those are, those are cool. We'll continue to post those. All right, Brent, we got, we got the Big 12. We got the ACC, we got the SEC, we got the Big 10. We did not forget. But now we're going to do the pack to the two pack. I think it should be two Pack, by the way. And obviously next year it becomes, it becomes bigger. But Brent, I feel very confident that our predictions are going to be the best. Like this will be the best league that we predict. So who you got in the two pack?
Brent Rollins
I think they're going to split the games because the anomaly that I completely forgotten about Oregon State and Washington State, I glossed over and completely forgotten about this. They play a home and home, yes, like scheduled, not, hey, we play later as a championship game, but they play a home and home. And you know, outside of that, next year it becomes the Pac State or state of the Pack or however you want to say it, because every team in it is something state. I think there'll be what, 18.
David Pollack
Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, San Diego State, Utah State, Texas State.
Brent Rollins
Yep. Plus. Plus the other two. So, you know, it'll be interesting as it changes. But the big thing for both of those teams, they still get to play the rival. Oregon State still gets to play Oregon and Washington State still gets to play Washington. Can they, can one of them pull an upset in, in that game? I'm tending, leaning towards no, but you never know.
David Pollack
Oh, well. Yep. You didn't. You say who, you still didn't say who you got in the. You just got them splitting, so just. I guess.
Brent Rollins
Yeah, I think they're going split. Yeah. That way everybody gets a trophy.
David Pollack
I got Oregon State.
Brent Rollins
Okay.
David Pollack
I got the Beavers. I got the Beavers winning the two pack.
Brent Rollins
But hey, we got through all. We got through. We even did, you know, the group of five contenders for the playoff because we have to actually pick one of those.
David Pollack
I think that's the most interesting thing about the PAC 12 in the future is Boise State. Now. I think it's, you know, I think it's going to be harder. I think it's gonna be harder for them to, to run the table because that league will be more competitive. I mean, that absolutely will become, you know, more competitive for them. So it'll be interesting how that, how is the Pac 12 treated? I don't think they're going to be a team that's going to get an automatic bid. That's, you know, they can still consider the, the group of five. Like, how do you, how do you handle that? Going to be interesting. The coaches poll comes out, Brent, and do you burn this? Do you, do you look at it? Do you study it? Do you take. Do you gleam anything for this? Because this goes into our, you know, next segment because I think who's going to level up? Who's who's going to exceed expectations from, you know, from the polls. And so how do, how do you always approach them? Because I love to have something to talk about, but I never really, like, look at it and go, oh, this is gospel.
Brent Rollins
No, I, I always wonder how many of the coaches actually fill out the ballot that's always.
David Pollack
And not their assistants.
Brent Rollins
Right. And not somebody that. Or is it between two teams? And, you know, I got to make sure that I say, hey, make sure you just as the coach put the ACC team our, you know, our league put our league ahead of when there's even or something like that. I don't know who, who does that. That's, that's always interesting. But outside of that, I rarely look at it. But for this purpose, given that it's a preseason poll and given like last year, I think I saw something like almost over half of the AP top 25, preseason top 25, didn't finish the year ranked.
David Pollack
So I actually turned back to my notebook. The first thing we ever did was week one last year was the, was the rankings. And, and I found this fascinating. One through four, Brent, all made the College Football Playoff. And not to spoil it right now, but if we go to the, the 1 through 4 with the, with the coaches poll, I might feel the exact same way. And you probably do as well. But. And um, I thought that was very interesting that one through four literally was in seven was Notre Dame, eight was Penn State, 14 was Clemson, 15 was Tennessee. All them made it. So that's, that's eight of the top 15 that made it into the College Football Playoff from the, from the ranking. So.
Brent Rollins
Yep.
David Pollack
I don't know if you found that interesting or not. Now you, now you spin it forward.
Brent Rollins
I think that. I think it is. Yeah. And that's why, I think that's what we're going to get actually is because a lot of this, you don't know what teams have until you see them. You're going to get sort of the brand name recognition in a way. And teams that are, you know, hey, they got their quarterback back. So I'm going to put them at, you know, 15 or 14 or whatever or like Michigan at 14 this year. You know, it's because. It's mainly because of, you know, some of the stuff from previous years, not necessarily what you saw a year ago. And you think, oh, they're going to be better with the quarterback. But the overachiever part, I, I have some interesting thoughts on that. I, I know I looked at it.
David Pollack
One quick, one quick thing Real quick before we get there.
Brent Rollins
Okay.
David Pollack
I. I found this. I found this, Found this. I found this. I'm from the South. I found this fascinating. I don't ever remember looking at a pole, Brent, and seeing five teams get first place votes. I don't think I've ever seen that. I was. That was. That was kind of an indication of me, like, where college football is. Like, you literally got five teams that got first place votes, and you usually see, you know, it's a majority with one and then another team. Like last year, it was like all Ohio State and Georgia.
Brent Rollins
Yep.
David Pollack
Like, it was. It was those two teams. So to have, you know, different teams getting first place votes, I mean, Penn State got 14. That's a lot. Like, that's not a little. Ohio State got 20, Texas got 28, Georgia got three, and Clemson got two. So I think it's. I think that's pretty fascinating. I think it shows us where you're at in college football. Like, there's more depth, there's more parody. Like at the top, it's not as cookie cutter as it used to be.
Brent Rollins
No, not at all. All right, so who is your first one that you outlined as a. Hey, they're going to way overachieve where they're starting. From a ranking standpoint. I've got four.
David Pollack
Okay. I got several, too. I just. I go down to the very bottom and down at the bottom. I don't know if you've. If you've seen the poll, the people that haven't. It says others receiving votes. That means there's other people that are getting votes, you know, that are not ranked, so they don't even grace the rankings. And if you go and you go way down there, you see a team called Utah, the Utah Utes. And I don't get that. Like Utah, Kyle Whittingham has had two losing seasons in the history of being there. Last year was one of them. They played four different starting quarterbacks. They've got a new system. They've got a good schedule, which they host most of their games. Like I look at Utah last year, they were one in five in one score games. One in five. Not going to continue. Like Kyle Whittingham. Two 22 losing seasons in 21 years. Brent, they're finishing with. I am not. I would be surprised if they don't finish with double the wins they had a year ago. If they don't finish with 10. Like, with their schedule, with their team, who they are, their lines of scrimmage. I thought. I think Utah is going to end up in the final rankings.
Brent Rollins
So they're 30th right now. If you actually sort of keep ranking them through there. And three of the ones that I pointed out are lower than them. Okay, so three teams for me, Iowa, who is 33rd with. We've talked about Gronowski and him being there and their lines of scrimmage. And by the way, I saw where Iowa football posted a Granowski highlight today and everybody's like, oh, I was going to be something. Going to be something. Well, we've been talking about him for like a month now. But their lines of scrimmage is going to be some of the best in both offensive and defensive line.
David Pollack
And they always are.
Brent Rollins
Schedule, they always, they got a lot of the good stuff at home. Georgia Tech, the schedule, plus having both quarterbacks, they are 37th and then Nebraska is 39th. If you faith in Matt Rule, Rail, Raul Leap and then also their schedule, I think all three of those teams are going to end up in the top 20 potentially. So that was, those were, that was three of my four teams that were below Utah.
David Pollack
And I got you, I got you one in there too. Washington. Like, if you don't think Washington's gonna. Okay, Brent, and I'm gonna ask you to do this off the cuff. So I'm not gonna, I'm not gonna, like, I'm not gonna make, I'm not gonna hold you to this. But I, I just was thinking about it when I was looking at Washington and we've talked about them a little bit with Demon Williams being a stud, like, right. Like a dual threat stud. Coleman is a bad ace at running back. Like, that's a bad mother. Shut your mouth. And you got Boston. Like if you think about across college football than that. And I know that's like you can go hyperbole on me a little bit. Like, and you can probably start to nitpick and find those. And you might go to Texas and you might go to some of these schools that are obviously, you know, in this mix. But I'm just telling you that's how I feel about Washington. Like in Ohio State's going to be there probably with Jeremiah Smith who's ever at running back. And you know, like, listen, there's but. But known commodities with Washington. Those guys are bad aces. Like O line was not good a year ago. It's got to be better. Year two with Jed Fish. The schedule, bro. Cephas, look at their schedule. Like Ohio State, Washington. And guess who has the second longest winning streak in the country at home. Washington.
Brent Rollins
Guessing Washington.
David Pollack
Yeah. Georgia. And if you've ever been there, that place is freaking awesome. Like, it is incredible. Like, not the capacity of some of the teams in the south, but unbelievable. They host their toughest games at home. Ohio State, Illinois, Oregon. And they got to go at Michigan. They got a four game season that like, those are the four big ones. But I think from six and seven a year ago, they're going to be plus several. And I got one that we can go way back, Brent. We can go way back when this hire was made and you're not going to know who I'm talking about, but when this hire was made, you were like, you believe in. And you said no and I said yes. You know what I'm talking about.
Brent Rollins
Chapel Bill.
David Pollack
Give me Chapel Bill. Because like when we did the, the, the schedules, like do you see Chapel Bill's schedule? Do you want to pull that up? Like, holy cow. Like there's not many better schedules in all of college football than North Carolina. Like, do, do you have it pulled up? Because it is un. Freaking believable. And let's talk about them. Like, enter the, the winningest coach of all time. Like, you know good and well Belichick has always been the guy that, like, I'll take away your strength. I'll make you play left handed. I'm going to build a team on no mistakes, right? Like, don't make mistakes. Don't screw it up. Wesley, get ready to pull up North Carolina schedule because it is worth pulling.
Brent Rollins
Up TCU and then at Charlotte.
David Pollack
Stop, stop, stop. TCU is, is the second toughest game on the schedule. Like, yeah, keep. So, so now I want you, I want you to read North Carolina schedule, Brent, and I want you to tell me how they went 6 and 7 a year ago, how they're not going to win eight games this year.
Brent Rollins
There's a lot of W's on that schedule. If they're competent.
David Pollack
Read it out.
Brent Rollins
Yeah, we got at Charlotte, Richmond at home, at UCF and then at California, at North Carolina State, which is always to me a toss up game, rivalry game. Clemson at home, lost Duke. Let's see. Sorry. Stanford at home. What am I looking at?
David Pollack
Just keep, just keep going. Stanford, Virginia, Syracuse.
Brent Rollins
Oh yeah, the dates are off there.
David Pollack
Yeah, Syracuse, like just, just, just.
Brent Rollins
I mean, Chapel Bill, they didn't get a vote. I, I was looking to see others receiving votes. They got zero.
David Pollack
They got zero. So this was my, this was my guaranteed to be in the polls at some point and they got zero Preseason looks and that's over.
Brent Rollins
That's the definition of overachieving, right?
David Pollack
The definition of overachieving. Like it's going to be, it's going to be a good season. I think that builds on itself too with them and you know, but Gio Lopez, Max Johnson, whoever that is. Like, I, I feel confident they'll be like Lopez was really good at not turning the ball over. Like, I think that's probably one of the things Bill is going to appreciate the most. He's also got wheels. Like, I just, I can't see a world where North Carolina is not an eight win season this year which is going to be plus at least plus two.
Brent Rollins
Somebody said don't give any credit to the ACC and they didn't deserve a vote. Also somebody said Texas Tech the one ID est whatever that means. Texas Tech shouldn't be ranked. I'm going to disagree with that one. I think, I think they should be ranked. Their quarterback's back. Plus they added talent galore and spent galore money. The other, the other question I wanted to ask. Oh, by the way, the one other one that I had. Did you have any others?
David Pollack
No. Well, another team that I think is going to be like I was. How about this? I was, I was surprised that Michigan after last year was 14. I thought they would be a little bit lower now with their schedule obviously winning an addie two years ago and but like I think Michigan's going to be plus two this year. Like I think they're going to go up in the, up in the win call and just because of, you know, last year the passing game was so putrid. It was ridiculous, by the way. So just put this in your pipe and smoke it real quick. When you think about Michigan football a year ago, Ashton Genti rushed for a thousand more yards than they passed for. Like they, they chose like three or.
Brent Rollins
Four quarterbacks to incompetence.
David Pollack
Do you know who they ranked ahead of in fbs? The service academies. And that was it. Like, and they were 8 and 5 like that. They, they and down the stretch, if you looked at their team obviously, Holden, I mean they held Ohio State to 13. Like they held Bama down. They beat Bama and Ohio State. You know, the last, you know, two of the last three games of the season, they played Indiana great defensively. Like, I think the defense doesn't lose much and I think the quarterback has to get better. The quarterback play has to get better. It can't get worse. Bryce Underwood is a work in progress. Like, but it has to go up Michigan.
Brent Rollins
Two, Two other quick comments. One, like if people haven't looked at Georgia Tech schedule, there's a world where they're 10 and one getting ready to play Georgia in the, in the bends with, it's a pretty nice schedule with a playoff potential playoff game on the line now. I don't know. They lose that game, they're 10 and 2. I don't know if they get in. That's. We'll debate that here in a second. But the other one for me is one that was actually higher on the rankings and that's Oregon. I think Oregon, they've got enough time on their schedule. If you look at, they've get Montana State and then Oklahoma State at home to open the season at Northwestern and then Oregon State before they go to Penn State. They go to Penn State and win. They might be number one after week five and, and the rest of their schedule is a whole lot of victories. They don't play Ohio State this year.
David Pollack
That's blasphemous. Ohio State, Texas winner is going to be number one until they lose, right?
Brent Rollins
I would, I think you're right.
David Pollack
I don't, I don't, I don't think we're going to get, don't get that too. Don't get too happy on me there.
Brent Rollins
Okay? They might be. They might be.
David Pollack
Yeah, we'll give you, we'll give you two. But. And then they got Penn State, Indiana and then at Iowa, at Washington, which is, which is tough. But yeah, it's definitely, it's definitely a good schedule. And Brent, let's be honest, like Oregon, if you haven't put them in this category then you need to like you're behind the times. Oregon's in the category with Ohio State, with Georgia, with Alabama, with Texas. Like Ohio State, they reload. That's what they do. Like that's who they are. The way they recruit. They're not, they're not the team on the, they're not the team with the flashy uniforms anymore. Like they are very much with the big boy pads and going to win a natty in the next three or four seasons. Like they're that kind of good.
Brent Rollins
So one of the things before we get to actual picks and by the way, I agree, I think they are very much in that category. So last year you had nine through 12 in the preseason poll was Michigan, Florida State, Missouri and Utah. So all who had kind of not great Mission or Missouri was solid, but they didn't win any sort of significant games. But is there anybody in that that range this year, that's okay. So I'll start at Alabama at 8. So Alabama's at 8, LSU 9, Miami 10, Arizona State 11, Illinois 12, South Carolina 13, Michigan 14. Is there anybody in that realm where you're like, they're going to be the one who kind of underachieves the other side of this coin? Because to me, like there's a, there's a couple possibilities there with Miami, like, I know you've very much on Miami, but if they lose the opener, I'm.
David Pollack
Not on them to be like the bet, one of the best teams in college football, but I'm on them. I think they're going, I think they're in the playoff mix very much and I feel good about them finally maybe taking that next step.
Brent Rollins
LSU is another team to me that could see itself fall back. You know, you lose that opening game.
David Pollack
The rest of their schedule so much. Yeah, like so much to blend into with transfers. And I just. There's a lot.
Brent Rollins
South Carolina lost a lot of NFL level talent, you know, I think up there, but you know, maybe not. Maybe gets dinged up and those, those kind of things. So those are teams to me in that range that might take a big fall.
David Pollack
I think it's South Carolina and, and I don't, I don't think it's. That South Carolina is going to be a bad football team. I'm not saying that, but like that defense, man, was so good. I mean at defensive tackle, on the edges, like safety, linebacker. And just to, to, to have to reproduce or to, to replace all of those guys. And, and that those are also like, those are senior leadership guys, guys that have been in the program and been around and you know, I know they started to believe and you could watch them believe throughout the season, but. And then you got to play at lsu, you got to play Oklahoma, you got to play Bama at Ole Miss at A and M. That's just a stretch. Like that wasn't the whole schedule homie GS. That was literally a five game stretch of who they have to play. They have to end with Clemson. Like they got to play Virginia Tech out of conference. You know, like it's a, it's a pretty tough schedule. I believe in Lenora Sellers the athlete and who he is. But Raheem Sanders, Rocket Sanders was a baller and he's gone and like, you know, I'll be interested to watch his targets and to see if the receivers got better and he got better as a passer. If he didn't get, if Lenora Sellers is the same guy he was a year ago and didn't get incrementally better. I think they're going to come back down to earth. Like he has to get way better, Brent. Like he has to improve big time to. For them to stay up there because the defense is not going to be what they were a year ago.
Brent Rollins
No. And the beauty of it, though, is that he can be much like he was against Clemson and be superman and, you know, if he can sustain it and stay healthy and then they're in the mix just. And kind of where they are right now. All right. I guess it's that time. The thing that I know you, you, you kind of. Hey, by the way, though, every now and then you get it right. Like, there was one year that I remember pretty recently that you got really, really right when it comes to picking all these.
David Pollack
I told you Alabama game. Yep. Georgia will beat him in the natty.
Brent Rollins
Wow.
David Pollack
2021, baby. Yeah. I'm screwed, by the way. I'm screwed. That was the. That was. That was. Yes, that was. That was never, never gonna happen again. That was crazy, crazy prediction. But. So I'm sure to go wrong. But how did you start the process, Mr. Mr. Doctorate, Mr. You know, thinker, I'm sure you had some kind of process that you did to this, that you did the way you compartmentalized everything.
Brent Rollins
Well, it was basically who do I feel confident about being there at the end? And I actually felt confident about ten teams.
David Pollack
Really. Okay, can I, can I try to guess them?
Brent Rollins
By all means. Go guess away.
David Pollack
I'm going to see the confidence meter from Brett Rollins. Texas, you feel confident. UGA Bama. Okay. Penn State.
Brent Rollins
Correct. Ohio State, five for five so far.
David Pollack
Oregon six for six.
Brent Rollins
Clemson seven for seven.
David Pollack
Okay, now this is where it gets a little hairy because I, I know how you feel about the Big 12, so I'm going to wait for that. Notre Dame. Ding, ding. Okay. Sweet. Okay. I absolutely know you are not putting Miami in there, so I'm going to refrain from any other teams in the acc. I'm going Arizona State. Next.
Brent Rollins
Check winner.
David Pollack
So that was, that was nine.
Brent Rollins
That's nine.
David Pollack
Okay. All right.
Brent Rollins
Oh, by the way, those are the nine teams I think can win the whole thing.
David Pollack
Yeah.
Brent Rollins
And then the, and then the, the ten. The, the tenth one was the group of five team.
David Pollack
Oh, okay. So you went Boise.
Brent Rollins
Yep. Okay, so those are, Those are the 10 to me that I felt like, at least in terms of picking, I felt good about. And, and plus I will say Arizona State's probably the one that I'm just because of the quarterback dependency, but I think all those teams in that conference are. And, but I think they're going to be there in the end. And I believe in Dillingham and I think he's really, really good. Like Levitt is as good as it gets. So. Yeah, it was after that then I looked at a bunch of different places. So by the way, are you different from me in those 10?
David Pollack
Texas, UGA, Bama. I guess I need to count Penn state. Yeah, that's six. So at three from the SEC, three from the Big Ten, one from the ACC, seven, one from the Big 12, Arizona State, Notre Dame. So that's. That was eight correct.
Brent Rollins
Yep. Yeah.
David Pollack
So I, I had eight that I felt good about. I, I did not. I did not.
Brent Rollins
That's nine actually. If you put.
David Pollack
Is that nine?
Brent Rollins
Okay.
David Pollack
I had nine that I felt good about. The other ones, I don't know about Boise as much as I'm not ready to crown them by any stretch, but. But I, I'm going to put them as the next one in. So I'm good with that for you. Like, I'm good with predicting that and staying on that path. But now it just gets, to me, it gets messy. Like now it gets. There's so many ways you could go. Like there's so many ways you can go now and there's so many teams that now, now to me, it starts to get into schedule now. To me, I think there's several worlds too where there's some schedules that are front loaded that people can get hot too on the back end. And if you get hot in the back end, are you that team that's trending in the right direction, the head to heads? Like, I think Michigan and Oklahoma head to head is going to be fantastic. Like, I think that game is going to freaking matter a lot. Like a lot.
Brent Rollins
I think it. And I think actually it matters more for Oklahoma than it does Michigan because it's not a conference game. And to me it matters for Oklahoma and the confidence and who they're going to be because it's at home. Because if you went, you win that game and take care of business at home, it gives you that extra realm of confidence going into SEC play.
David Pollack
Yeah. And they just need, they need, they need a little of that juice early and.
Brent Rollins
Yep.
David Pollack
You know, while everybody's breaking in all these new players and new things, Matier's new, but Arbuckle, his OC is not. And coming from Washington State with him is Such a big deal, man. And then, you know, getting so many guys back from injury. Oklahoma is one of those teams that I didn't put them on the underrated because I, I, I assume the way we've talked about them already, like, we already have high hopes for them. Like, they weren't in the top 25, which was, this was kind of surprising.
Brent Rollins
Since 99, I think.
David Pollack
Yeah. And it's kind of surprising because I, I do feel like they're going to be team very much good enough for that. How do we go about doing this next process? Because I'm not going to lie, I started circling a bunch of teams that, that I think could do it. And it's, I mean, I got several. Like, there's several on the next level in the sec. There's several in the Big Ten. My Miami pick is very much alive. Like, I think Miami is in that mix with their schedule. I did not have a thought process about the Big 12 and putting another team in. I debated it. But I do think, you know, with their schedules and the way they all play each other and the way the games are always competitive, I kind of narrowed that down to one. So I was kind of debating between, you know, Miami, and then I go, I don't know if this team's in the mix for you. Is it or not? You tell me, is A and M in the mix for you?
Brent Rollins
They were one of the ones that I considered, yes, because I have A.
David Pollack
And M. I have A and M very much in the mix. And I think, I think they're going to be a problem this year. And I think with their lines of scrimmage, I'm going to, yeah, but I'm going to expand on it. I think with their line of scrimmage and their run game. And here's what I like about A and M. They get Notre Dame early. I think that's a good thing. Like, I think Notre Dame's got a lot to figure out with who they are. I think they can beat Notre Dame early. They've got Auburn at home. They've got Florida at home. They got to go to lsu, which is, which is really, really tough. They got to, they, they got South Carolina at home, and then they got Texas at the end of the season. Like, if they lose three games and they run that the rest of that schedule, like, I, I think they're going to be in the college football playoffs. So, like, that was a, that was a big point of emphasis for me when I was looking at them. And, you know, Texas Tech And Ole Miss and Florida. Who was the other teams you were, you were concentrating on?
Brent Rollins
Well, you asked. I think the interesting thing you asked first was process. So if you're going through this and looking at okay, how do I want to pick this one? I think if you look at a conference that might get five teams versus a conference that gets four, the Big Ten to me is the one that might get five because of the way their schedules work and you might get more 10 and two Big Ten teams than you would SEC teams. I think the SEC teams are going to beat each other up a little bit. So I was looking at, all right, is it a fifth Big Ten team, the last spot, a second ACC, a fourth SEC team or a second Big 12?
David Pollack
And I think you're going Big Ten.
Brent Rollins
So one, one of my final two is a Big Ten team. And I, and I actually ended up splitting SEC and Big Ten and even giving them each four. Okay, so can I guess go for it?
David Pollack
Illinois?
Brent Rollins
Yes. Because I mainly because I wanted to be a man of my word because I said and we had coach, coach beam on and we had, we were talking about it and I just kind of went with it. But here's, I actually thought more about this and looked at their schedule and really sort of think and because one of the things with their schedule, it's front loaded in terms of the harder games on their schedule. Very much at Duke, at Indiana, usc, at home in four in three of the first five games.
David Pollack
Yep.
Brent Rollins
And well, what do you want if you have harder games in the beginning, you want a veteran team and that's what they are, they're a veteran team. And the ability to handle those things early, like going to Duke, Duke and you know, early season, you know, still breaking Mensa in that kind of stuff. So I, I, we, I'd said it earlier, so I'm going to stick with. Because after that, by the way, after usc, I mean, yes, they have Ohio State and at Washington, but you know, at Purdue, Rutgers, Maryland, Wisconsin, Northwestern, all, all should be dubs.
David Pollack
I, I feel kind of confident about their last four game stretch and that's where I was alluding to earlier when I was talking about like they got an opportunity to finish strong. But here's the thing, I, I think it's between them and Indiana, like obviously not both are getting in. And you didn't, you didn't agree. You shook your head a little bit. Because I think Indiana got to be in this mix. I really do. I think Indiana, when you look at their, when you look at Their schedule and you look at their team, Indiana's got a ton of experience back. Like they're not, they're not replacing their whole team this year. And I, I know Rourke was really, really good. I think they're going to upgrade at QB for Indiana. I really do. I think Mendoza is better. I think he's, he's a bigger version, a little bit more athletic ability. I think more durable, had probably a little bit more, A little bit more. I just think he's going to be, I think he's going to be better in that system. So Old Dominion, Kennesaw, whatever this other one is. And then Illinois at home, they, they got him at home right early in the season. They don't leave home for the first four weeks. And then at Iowa, at Oregon and that's where, that's where Indiana, the big thing for Indiana is you've got three in a row that are tough, that are tough games and can you come out of that and beat two of the three and then can you, then you can still lose to, to Penn State because you got Michigan State, ucla, Maryland, Wisconsin and Purdue down the stretch like that.
Brent Rollins
Lee, man, that the only reason I went there against them because I think the Iowa game becomes a one that's very losable in a way.
David Pollack
It's a tough place to play.
Brent Rollins
And Oregon playing both Oregon and Penn State, whereas Illinois only plays Ohio State. Yeah, so, but it could come down to this decision, could come down to who wins that game. Illinois, Indiana. That's going to be one that we're going to talk about. So that was my 11th team and then I had one last team and it's, I think this is the one that I told you that might shock you a little bit.
David Pollack
The dramatic pause was fantastic there. I like that. You need to do that more often.
Brent Rollins
I'm gonna go Lane train. I think he gets it right this year and, and the thing that I think about more than anything with this team is I think Austin Simmons is going to be a ball like first round pick type guy that everybody wants that the NFL is just sort of drooling over at the end of the year. And when you look at the, the date, a little bit of data that you've seen, I think he's going to help them in the drop back game. And that's to me where Lane oftentimes struggles as a, as a, as a play caller and some of those things and if he helps that, I think the other things are going to get around. Now the defensive part, I, I, I That's still a question mark. It's got to come together. But the way their schedule sets up, I think they're going to be just at least able to get into that and just take care of business and the games they should win. I think they put so much emphasis on that Georgia game last year that they kind of. It became a tunnel vision with that game. Oh, yeah. But it was something that he had talked about. Hey, off season, we talked about beating Georgia, beating Georgia, line of scrimmage, all that stuff. And I think he's finally going to get it right and get them into the playoffs and they take in their schedule. I think that's the other part with it is I like their schedule in the home games that they have.
David Pollack
Yeah, they got Georgia State at Kentucky, Arkansas, Tulane, lsu, Washington State. The only one they got to go at is Kentucky and all of those to start. And then at Georgia, at Oklahoma, South Carolina, and then they play Florida. So, I mean, that's a tough. That's a tough schedule. You know, the interesting thing that. And I've said this already, but I'm just. Ole Miss in Puguis, like losing the short yardage student and the run game. Wasn't that elite a year ago. I think, I think, I think. I think. I think they're going to be really, really good. I think they're on the cusp. I think. I think A and M's offense is going to be easier. I think. I think their offense is easier to. To continue. I think they're going to be able to ground and pound people. By the way, the more I look through all this stuff, I think ground and pound this year is going to be a very prevalent theme. Like, you're going to see a lot of run game, much like the NFL. Yeah, I think you're going to get a ton of. A ton of ground and pound. So I, I differed because I pulled the trigger and A M and I'm not sure a lot of people are going to have A M in the playoffs, but I do and I like A M. So the question for me is, do you go? Do you go?
Brent Rollins
That's 11, by the way. For you. So that's 11.
David Pollack
11.
Brent Rollins
By the way. I bleed orange. We see you. We know, we know. We want to Hear Davey's top 10. And also he's. Where's the Tennessee love?
David Pollack
I wrote Tennessee down on this list and I'll tell you why. You know, am I nervous about. About Tennessee's offense a little bit? Yes, 100%. But. But I tell you what I do like, I like their defense and I love their schedule. I love their schedule. I mean, if you look at Tennessee, to me, here's what Tennessee has to do to get in the playoffs. Obviously they gotta, they gotta win the games they're supposed to win, which they didn't do a year ago, like Arkansas, and they still got in, but they have UGA at home. They have at Bama, they have OU and they have at Florida. Like, they're not. Like, I got so many teams like Bama's at fsu, at uga, at Missouri, Tennessee, at South Carolina, lsu, Oklahoma, at Auburn. Like there's a lot more landmines, you know, just, you know, in the other schedules. Now, Ole Miss was, was comparable too, in that, like Ole Miss, lsu, Georgia, ou, USC and Florida. So all this stuff, man, like, you've got to take into account the schedule. But I just think the biggest thing for Tennessee is losing Sampson, losing their center, losing their quarterback. Like, I don't know how much their, their offense is going to carry the day. And I think their defense takes a little bit of a step back. So I'm with you that I think they're going to be right there and close, but I'm not, I'm not ready to pull the trigger and put them in there. Bring back the full back Sean Walker. I love you. I love that. Absolutely. Bring back the fullback. That is fantastic.
Brent Rollins
I mean, that's you, by the way. That's why that's where you started. So, so as to recap, we've got the same 10, Penn State, Oregon, Ohio State from the Big Ten, Texas, Bama, Georgia from SEC, Clemson, ACC, Arizona State, Big 12, Boise is the G5, and then Notre Dame. And for 11, I went Illinois, you went a M12, I went Ole Miss. And now who is your final playoff team? Oh, is it going to be the Hurricanes?
David Pollack
The, the. The smart money would not to be the her not to put the Hurricanes in there. Like, if you're using past knowledge, past what you've, what you've seen and what you've experience, you don't put them in there. And so if I didn't put them in there, I'm going, you know, Indiana, Illinois type range. You know, one of those two teams. Golly, Indiana, man, with their, with their schedule like it's, it's. It's a safer play to say Indiana forced. With those four straight home games.
Brent Rollins
I think Indiana is going to lose at least three. So that's why I stayed away from them.
David Pollack
I'm going Miami I'm going Canes, I'm going the U. I'm throwing it up right now on camera. I don't know, it's probably not the smartest move, but I think Miami and A and M to me are both like line of scrimmage teams that you're going to believe in.
Brent Rollins
That's the point to talk about.
David Pollack
Yeah, that's, that's to me why I'm pulling the trigger and I'll go with them and, and take my chances.
Brent Rollins
And that's why I have talked about Iowa so much earlier in the off season. Because if you look at their line of scrimmage, they, they've got NFL guys up and down on both sides that are experienced, that are old, that have been there, that are senior laden team. And if it becomes a true line of scrimmage game, in all of these type of games, you want to have the, you want to be the best. And the S, by the way, you know, the SEC has always been a line of scrimmage game and it, all of football is, it's always in a way been that. But it's getting more so back to that when we, especially when we had coach Casey talking about, you know, the rise of 12 personnel, all that sort of stuff. But A M, by the way, and Miami offensive line wise, those are 2o lines to bet on. I would, I would agree with that. Well, matter, yes.
David Pollack
And D lines. And another thing too, I think both of them have quarterbacks, which really, really helps. But they both also have speed on the outside and that's where Iowa doesn't do it for me as much like I think I was. They never had those guys out wide. So if you, if you do own the line of scrimmage. Okay, well, I can stack the box, you know, and, and Indiana's got that good, Indiana's got a good system and I think they'll be able to throw the ball some too. I just, I literally bowled down to the trenches and I think if I'm going through my whole list, it's a very common theme and you know, we'll pick, you know, next week we'll go to the, to the winners. But you know, are we going to pick every game and now that we're going to do some like fancy cool graphics and stuff now, and like now we can do all kinds of cool crap and could put this up on a graphic and share it so everybody can crap all over our brackets, which is fantastic.
Brent Rollins
I do like the progression, by the way. We had a nice little sort of okay, we. Monday we looked at the teams that actually we think can be in the playoff mix. Well, today we picked who is actually going to, we think, be in the playoffs and even some overachievers and. And compared to the polls. Well, Monday we're going to talk about the teams that. Who can win the whole thing and probably pick a singular team that can win the whole thing. I actually have a lean in that, in that regard, by the way, so I do, too.
David Pollack
But I ain't making no bones about it because I've been all in this all season and I might just ride that train because I ain't worried about it, brother. Like, I don't. I haven't seen anybody pick Clemson. I don't see a lot of preseason stuff, but I'm imagining no one's going to. And as high as I've been on them to finish the season last year, you know, going in the off season and as soon as Tom Allen was hired, might as well just might be.
Brent Rollins
In terms of all right, programming, it's content. By the way, you did a horrible job of leaving, you know, no time unturned for. For Monday. You know, you kind of may have preempted what you're going to say, but Bear was against you, by the way. I saw that the other day. Bear's kind of like, hey, where's. Wow.
David Pollack
Felica texted me and said, don't believe the Clemson. Don't do it. And I was like, shut up. Like, I'm not. I'm not listening to you, Bear. And I listen. Bears write a lot, but. All right, next week, boys. Join us, you know, next Monday. Then once we get to the season, we'll start doing Saturday night, you know, live recap. We'll do Monday show, we'll do Wednesday show with a guest, and then we'll do Thursday picks and so we'll have even more shows for you. Thanks for all you guys signing, subscribing, all that stuff. We growing like crazy and we really appreciate it and we'll pick some winners next week or at least give you some picks to go opposite of and use as toilet paper. So see y' all next week.

Episode: CFP PREDICTIONS | CFB Overachievers in 2025 | SEC on Netflix
Release Date: August 7, 2025
Hosts:
David Pollack kickstarts the episode by expressing excitement for the arrival of prediction season in college football. He acknowledges the challenges both he and Brent Rollins face in making accurate predictions, humorously likening it to "taking a dart and throwing it" due to the unpredictable nature of the sport.
David Pollack [00:00]: "Prediction season is here. Been racking my brain. I know Brent's been racking his brain."
The discussion transitions to the impact of injuries on key teams like Florida and Texas. Pollack highlights concerns about these teams starting strong without tune-up games, which could jeopardize their early performance.
David Pollack [00:50]: "Florida and Texas right now have injuries that probably will affect the start of the season for them."
Brent adds that the absence of players like Dallas Wilson due to injuries further complicates Florida's prospects.
Brent Rollins [01:28]: "If Dallas Wilson is out for any reason, it's a big blow."
Pollack introduces a Netflix documentary titled "Any Given Saturday," which provides an immersive behind-the-scenes look at college football teams. He praises the documentary for offering insights into coach and player dynamics that are usually hidden from the public.
David Pollack [03:34]: "Netflix takes a view behind the scenes during some of the biggest games and upsets, showing the real personalities of coaches like Billy Napier."
The hosts delve into the personalities of various coaches, emphasizing how these traits influence team performance. Pollack admires Billy Napier's consistent demeanor and DJ Lagway's honesty and leadership qualities, suggesting these attributes are crucial for a successful quarterback.
David Pollack [04:10]: "Lagway made mistakes as well, but Graham Mertz has 'juice'—he demands performance and inspires his team."
Brent comments on Brian Kelly's political demeanor and his straightforward coaching style, noting how these characteristics affect team morale and performance.
