What's up everybody? David Pollock here of C Ball Get Ball podcast. I hope you like it, man. Be sure to follow the show Wherever you subscribe, YouTube or any of your other platforms. All right, welcome everybody in C Ball Get Ball. Brent Rollins, David Pollack joining you as always. Man, the season gets closer. We got some, we got some cool games to play, man. Like I think this is, this is as fun as it gets when you get closer and you start. We made picks last week and now we're starting to look at like just the early game, you know, the early season schedule and the games that like really, really matter for the playoffs. So if I, if I'm an opposing person, like I'm going to pay attention to this, which I think is, is important to, to pay attention to teams and why it will matter. What's more likely? The game, Brent Rollins, the sweeping the nation game that Brent Rollins is playing on his, on his X account. Podium Kings we'll talk about too. We're going to do this often because it is so awesome to get coaches quotes and listen to them and especially this time of year and especially when they take shots at their own teams, which I find fantastic. We've shown Dillingham doing it. Rock Chalk, Jayhawk. Cheddar baby. How about Kansas? You know, an infusion of cheddar into the program, which is good. But I think we start Brent, where everybody has been talking about is just John Mattier and the gambling slash, not slash. Now how this affects, you know, Oklahoma. How it affects him. And listen, the gambling thing is really real. And. And it's something that people are addressing like crazy. The teams are having. They're bringing experts in to talk to their players because, like, you've seen it in the NBA, you've seen it in the NFL. Like, it's a real thing that will get you kicked out of the game very, very quickly. So, you know, what did you think when you saw the. The material situation?
Unknown Speaker 2
Well, what do kids have? One. It was. I thought it was fake at first. Like, it's.
David Pollack
There's so much fake news nowadays, by the way. Like, so many things that you see a quote and you're like, wow, that. That's. I saw one with Mike. No, with the Florida State Norvell. And I was like, what? He said, what? And then it's like, it was fake. Never mind. Like, you gotta. You gotta worry about that crap now.
Unknown Speaker 2
Well, an AI and all. Like, like, do. What do you actually trust now? And then. And then he put his account private. And then it's like, okay, I guess something is a little bit off here, but the gambling thing in general is not a world that I exist in. But it's one that kids with money now, like, even at the high school.
David Pollack
Correct. Our.
Unknown Speaker 2
Our kids attend and. Or did attend. It's a thing. It's a big thing. And they're got, you know, sort of online gambling and all the sort of things with that. So it's a scary thing. But in the end, like, if there's nothing much to do about nothing, it's make sure your Venmo account's private. I don't know. I didn't know why. I don't know why anybody would make that public. But, you know, okay, the thing that's.
David Pollack
Crazy about these high school kids is my son, who's. Who's actually 17 today, shout out to Nicholas, Happy birthday. But just.
Unknown Speaker 2
I told him, I texted him that a boy. But.
David Pollack
But just like, he asked me, you know, a while back, like, hey, can I get this DraftKings app? And I was like, no. And he was like, why not? He was like, all my friends are doing it. I was like, I don't care. First of all, what your friends are doing. That doesn't mean you're going to. I said, buddy, it's illegal. Like, you're literally gonna have to lie to say you're of age to gamble. And. But. But I think it's. There's so many of those that, hey, we'll give you $10. Hey, bet on this, and you're guaranteed to win. Is Lamar Jackson going to throw for one yard? You know, like you. You're guaranteed to win. And then it puts that hook in there. And once it puts that hook in there, obviously, you know, it, it can get dangerous. But we can't explain. We can't. We can't talk about Oklahoma football without John Mateer. Like, this guy is the reason there's optimism. This guy is the reason everyone is excited. This is the reason that people in our chat yelling, Boomer sooner. Just to start it. Which is. Which is fantastic. And that's what we want. Like, thank you. The. What is it? The fir. What is. What is. What is that name? I can't even read it. Brent.
Unknown Speaker 2
Like, Id est. I don't know.
David Pollack
Id est like Boomer Sooner. That's the reason people are excited. And, and it's just, it's. It's going to be, you know, Matier's denying it. And if I've learned anything that I can fill you in on the NCAA and how this works. Here's all material has to do with the ncaa when they come in and they ask you a question. No comment. That's it. Like, no comment. I don't have to give you information. I don't have to tell you the truth. I, I don't have to tell you a dang thing. You don't have subpoena power. You can't tell me to do anything, and you can't punish me unless I give you the facts. So that's what he can do. And then hopefully this is nothing, man, because I don't want to see. But. But it's a lesson. It's. It's a lesson to kids, though, like what you do three years ago, what you do four years ago. Josh Allen was a great example to draft. You know, when he got drafted the night before, somebody saved that exact tweet to, to put up for him to show and to make him paint him in some kind of light. Laramy Tunel the night before his draft and the, the mask, like, that was. That was crazy. I know. Different, but Bane getting high. But like, you know, these things matter, man. Like what you're doing in the past will come back to affect you. So kids, stay off the social media, stay off the stupid stuff.
Unknown Speaker 2
Yeah, very much so. Speaking of high school in North Aone, game week, by the way.
David Pollack
Game.
Unknown Speaker 2
Are we getting excited?
David Pollack
Getting excited, man. First game of the season, crosstown rival. There'll be 7,000 plus people in the state. It's a Big one. If you've been watching any given Saturday wit weeks is from right down the road at Oconee. But yeah, big, big week. Hey, by the way, this, this was funny in practice today. So one of our kids has been struggling with cramps. And I'm like, dude, drink. Like, drink non stop. I'm not thirsty. I don't care. Like, he said to go to the hospital, get IVs a couple of times. Like, been dehydrated. So I just walked around giving him the bottle today and I was like, drake, Drake. He was like, I'm about to pee myself, coach. I was like, so what? I was like, just let it go. That means you're hydrated. I said, just pee your pants. He was like, that's disgusting. Brett Rollins, you played football? I played football. Like, you just pee your pants.
Unknown Speaker 2
Yeah, like, right, Like Billy Madison.
David Pollack
It's cool to pee your pants.
Unknown Speaker 2
You ain't cool unless you pee your pants.
David Pollack
Yeah, like, I, I, I don't, I didn't even understand. I'm like, dude, you're soaking wet because it's so humid. Like, I would love to hear from y' all people in the chat that played football, man, like, you just let that rip. Like it's, it's fine. You're, you're already sweaty, like. And cold games, I would argue too, cold games. It even warms you up a little bit. You get that warm sensation for a little.
Unknown Speaker 2
Now, now we're going to dumb and dumber.
David Pollack
Yeah, that, that warm feeling. All right, so where you want to go next?
Unknown Speaker 2
We, we spent the first part talking about money in a kind of negative light. Now we're going to talk about it in a very positive light because Rock chalk Jayhawk got an absolute bag dropped today. So long time donor, alumni of the alumnus David Booth. 300 million of approximately, by the way, approximately 300 million, whatever that means. But $300 million, that I think a lot and it's going to a lot of different things, but nil. Stadium renovations, all that sort of stuff. But the amazing thing about this to me is when you think about this person individ individually, he gave the University of Chicago $300 million in 2008. In 2008. So just think about you and your life that you have the ability to donate $300 million not once, but twice. But you know, Kansas has said, okay, Cody Campbell, I see you. We got, we got our guy, Mr. Booth. He's got a college named after him. Business school at University of Chicago.
David Pollack
So, yeah, so the interesting Kansas is Going to be an interesting study for me because, you know, obviously basketball is a big deal in Kansas. Like a huge deal. How much do they do they put towards basketball versus football? So I literally had to just get on the Google and what does Kansas go to David Booth do? Because what the freak do you do to give that kind of cheddar away? Because I'm thinking about changing jobs. Apparently. He's a founder of global investment firm Dimensional Fund Advisors.
Unknown Speaker 2
Almost a trillion dollars.
David Pollack
Managed 853 billion in assets as of June 30th. Geez. Alrighty. Well, God bless America. Glad for. For Mr. David Booth. Glad for Rock Chalk Jayhawk. That's always a good thing. Next segment. Man, we got to go to podium Kings. Just who is. Who's on deck first? I wonder where Wesley. I don't even know the order Wesley has, but I think. I think we should listen and then share just with the greatness. We don't have to explain who it is all the time. I think that's part of the fun, like identifying the voice and just listening. So Wesley, hit it.
Wesley
Enjoyed the punt periods in my life, but it's my favorite period of practice right now. I just could watch Archie punt all day. Just. I've never seen anything like it. So it's like. It's like watching a YouTube short. I mean, the guy's amazing. So what he does. So I. I used to walk over the old line during punt period or kind of stand aside. Now I'm out there, like, with popcorn because it's. It's really a fun thing to watch. I hope we don't punt a lot, but when we do, it'll be fun.
David Pollack
That's fantastic. Archie Wilson, the punter for Nebraska. Listen, Pat McAfee would be proud. Like, just to. If you're getting a segment, a media segment on a punter, something's going right in your world. You better be really, really good. It was Matt Ariza a few years ago from San Diego State that had that. Just cannon for a leg. Like, he was. He was one that got talked about. But, like, it's. It's crazy, Brent, because I've done it. Yeah, well, and you saw him cry at the podium. And I think we have that sound, actually. Sorry to ruin that, but, like, I think we have that sound, but he's an Aussie punter. But Matt rules talking about this because it goes. He goes left foot and right foot. So he's. And kickius like. What is. What is the word? Like amphibious. So now he's in kickius like he kick with, with both feet. Like, I know it's ambidextrous, by the way, but like we always play in the south. Like it's amphibious. But it's amazing because when you roll out and you can buy time for your guys to run down the field and cover the punt, it's a big advantage. And when you can go to the wide side of the field, a lot of times you can buy more time. So. But he can go either direction with his feet and just, I mean, I'm interested to see the weapon. Apparently this is, this is a big deal and this is a weapon.
Unknown Speaker 2
He's like the Otani of punning. Yeah, dual threat here.
David Pollack
I, I guess you used a baseball reference again, by the way. I had to do this today. This is one of the few times I will ever do this in my life. I called and did some research on punting. Like I called our boy Thorson at, at Georgia and I was like, dude, explain to me what the heck is going on? Why are all these Aussie kids, like, why are you here? Like, you know, he's an Aussie guy. I'm like, what happens? He said, he said, listen to this, Brent. This blew my mind. I found it interesting. So I feel like everybody else would too. Like, he was like, we play, we play Australian Rules football. And he said we don't have quarterbacks. He was like, we don't throw the football. He said, so we roll out and we try to throw a 10 yard kick, essentially. So think about it like that's how the quarterback does it. He's got to be able to punt it 10 yards, 20 yards, 30, 50 yards down the field. So you kind of like see who's open and you hit them. And it's a huge deal in, in Australia, obviously it's the afl, it's the Australian Rules football. They get paid a bunch of money to do it. But I just found it fascinating listening to him talk about growing up playing. And he was like, you know, he said, I was basically in the G league of the afl. And he said the top five people, like the top five people period in the AFL make about a million dollars a year, American dollars. He said, next year, if I'm a punter in the NFL, getting rookie minimum, I'm making that so, like, they've got an opportunity to come to America, get a free education and pursue, like, pursue a sport professionally that they've kind of got a niche that they've been working on their whole lives. Like, they've been getting Better at just this one specific thing. I found it fascinating, man. Like, that's why there's so many Australian Rules punters that are. Or Australian punters that are coming here because they. They work on punting basically from a young age because that's their professional sport. They all aspire to play.
Unknown Speaker 2
And then he's a long way from home. So let's. I think we got that. In terms of hearing what he had to say. In terms. Yeah, because that was hard for me to watch being first time you're away from them. Yeah, that's hard.
David Pollack
I mean, I'm sorry. Yeah, I love it a lot, man. You gotta stop. Like, stop it now.
Unknown Speaker 2
This one's hard for me, by the way. This one. This one specifically is very hard for me.
David Pollack
That's gonna. Yeah, because you got Carson leaving the nest. Left the nest already.
Unknown Speaker 2
Pl. Be tomorrow.
David Pollack
Yeah. Oh, I can't imagine. I mean, listen, all of you, that you go off to college, your kids go off to college. I'll never forget getting dropped off at college at Georgia, which was an hour away from home. And I was like. Like, what just happened? I got kicked in the nuts. Like, this is really, really hard. And you think about, like, going all the way across the country, but at least Matt Rule had his. Had his punters back talking good about him. And I'll tell you this, man, the kid's in good hands because his new family is going to be all around him. Like, your. Your family becomes the locker room. Like, you spend the most time with those guys. It's what you do. It's your friends, like your coaches become your quote, unquote dad. I mean, they really do, which is. Which is awesome. So good for him to. To go across the country, chase his dream. And. And for the first time ever, I'm going to say this out loud. I'm actually excited to watch a punter. I've never said that in my life. I'm. I'm excited now. They're not gonna be excited when they're putting. But Archie Wilson excited like crap to watch you. And hopefully Nebraska doesn't have to use you too much, but. All right, the next one.
Unknown Speaker 2
I don't know about the opening statement. Hey, guys, Ty Simpson's our starter. How's that?
David Pollack
Fantastic. Fantastic. And that's Ryan Grubb from Alabama. And by the way, do you think.
Unknown Speaker 2
Alabama fans are, like, Nick Saban would.
David Pollack
Never name a starter.
Unknown Speaker 2
Exactly. Like, it's one of those things. Are we doing that just because he's not here and we got to Be different or they, I don't know. But that's, I, I love that he just did it right, right off the top.
David Pollack
Well and he just like he was, he was going in like he was there, like basically there to answer questions. He's like, well, you're supposed to have an opening statement. They said to him and he was like, okay, Ty Simpson's an opening starter. Next. And then just kind of goes into why he describes Ty Simpson. And again, I think he's going to be really good this year. I think he's going to, I think being in the system. But I also think that when you watch 15 and you watch some of his clips from the past, Brent, he's got some wheels now. Like I know he's light skinned so people are going to think some kind of way and he might not be some kind of athletic, but there's plenty of clips of watching him, you know, run, run around linebackers pretty quickly, make linebackers miss. So like as much as people talk about Jalen Milroe and him, him the athletic ability, well, Simpson can bring the passing game, but I think he also can still. You're not aborting the, the QB run game. Like I think you can still have some of that to keep guys off balance and more importantly extend plays and run this offense. And again, Ty Simpson sat for several years, three years now, like learning, growing to get ready for this moment. And most people would have left, most people would have left and transferred and now he's got a chance to lead, I think one of the better teams in the country.
Unknown Speaker 2
And next up, I think is speaking of his opponent in week one, we get to hear from fsu.
Unknown Speaker 3
There's some guys who showed out, guys who are building the coaches trust and the confidence of their teammates. And there's some guys who need to quite frankly, step their ass up. It's unacceptable. Okay, like, we all need to make sure that we're all on the same page and we, we, we understand what, and what's, what's asked of us and what the expectations are. And either guys do it or they don't.
Unknown Speaker 4
If you like this episode, I've got another podcast I think you'll enjoy. The official Hard Knocks podcast from HBO and NFL Films. Hard Knocks is back and so is the official Hard Knocks podcast. David Pollack
Go ahead, Br.
Unknown Speaker 2
It up.
David Pollack
That's not what he said.
Unknown Speaker 2
When you think about it, yeah, he added a few. But you think about it as a coach, especially as, you know, sort of a new coach and whatnot. What do you, what do you care about the most in your kids? The talent you can't control. You can control how much effort they play with and them paying attention and being involved in knowing sort of what they're doing mentally. And if, if a kid is mentally dialed in and you know, hey Grizz, great effort, but the ability is just not there. You can live with that. But also like if you're not dialed in mentally or you're not giving great effort, I'm going to come down on you. And that's where like that's one of the things that I know my two have I told them from they were time they were six. I'm only going to yell if it's mental awareness that is lacking or if you're not giving effort. Do those two things and I won't.
David Pollack
Say anything, but I need a, I need a coach that's going to kick people in the nuts. Like, I'm just saying I want that. I want an old school coach that's going to like, here's the thing, you're coaching it or you're allowing it. And I can tell you, every great defensive mind I've been around, every great defensive team, it's because the leader brings it every day. The leader has juice. The leader creates accountability. The leader creates energy. The leader creates physicality. Like I love this from Tony White. And he's also.
Unknown Speaker 2
That's how the ball, by the way, especially on the ball.
David Pollack
You have to have it on that side of the ball. And he's also establishing himself like, this is a big year for Florida State. Like, Tony White comes from the team. We just talked about Nebraska, and he's coming over to Florida State to try to change some culture because they had a horrible season a year ago. You know, Chiswick or Gus Malzahn comes in on the offensive side of the ball. So they're. They're revamping at Florida State, and this is a big year for their program. Two years ago, man, they hit the lottery. They, like, all aces. Like, it was beautiful. And in the transfer portal, everything went great last year. Yeah, the committee screwed him. But the last year, like, everything obviously reset, and it was a terrible season. Like, now, you know, listen, you. You got to have some accountability. I love the way he's talking, man. I love the way he's. If he demands that of his kids, it's. He's going to get the best out of them, and they'll play with an edge. They'll play with some physicality, they'll play with some effort. So I got absolutely no problem with. With Tony White talking that way. And I would argue if you're not talking that way, you're probably not a good unit. Now, I don't. You don't always do this in front of cameras. I think Tony White did this on camera for a reason.
Unknown Speaker 2
Oh, yeah.
David Pollack
Like Tony Wright needed. Tony White needed to send a message to his troops, like, y' all aren't getting this fricking done. And pretty soon, here's the thing that happens in fall camp. Nobody notices, Brent. No one notices.
Unknown Speaker 2
Yeah.
David Pollack
No one sees you working. Like, it's just the camera that you get to watch and your buddies when. When that. When that game crew comes and the stadium gets packed, everybody knows. And who do you start with? Alabama. Like, you ain't easing your way into this thing, bro. So he's trying to kick his people in the fanny and get him. Get him the freak motivated. And so I got no problem with that. You got to do that as a defensive coach, especially.
Unknown Speaker 2
Yep. And especially considering the season that Florida State had, like you said a year ago, like, you should be highly motivated to turn things around, prove people wrong, that sort of thing. But, hey, there's the money element, too, that we talked about in terms of what it does to motivation and kids and all the things with that.
David Pollack
Yep.
Unknown Speaker 2
All right, next up, game Game time. We did a game the other night, which, by the way, I had thoroughly enjoyed being very negative and it was fun.
David Pollack
Did you get jokes? Do you catch some flack on social media?
Unknown Speaker 2
I mean, maybe one or two.
David Pollack
Not bad. Okay. People understood the exercise. They understand.
Unknown Speaker 2
Now, I will say there was one, I think one Ohio State fan may into YouTube that was not, not really clear. And how could I. How dare would I think that that would happen to them versus what happened to Michigan?
David Pollack
But, you know, let me tell you something. You kept Brent up the other night. That really hurt his feelings. You. You.
Unknown Speaker 2
It was.
David Pollack
You hurt his feelings. He cried a little bit. So what's. What's more likely? What, what's the first one you got? You got all the top 10 teams in the country.
Unknown Speaker 2
Yep.
David Pollack
And we're going to go see what's more likely.
Unknown Speaker 2
And by the way, if, if these stink, like, you need to tell me if, if my choices here stink. But I tried to kind of go at least two little bit of extremes and look at maybe perfect scenario, doomsday scenario and see, hey, which is kind of more likely. All right, so Texas number one. What's more likely? A, Arch Manning wins the Heisman, which, by the way, did you see the SEC network promo that was going. And there's like some sort of show, I think tonight, but they were like calling him, you know, borderline of deity. So anyway, he wins the Heisman. Or B, Texas has two losses before they go play Georgia on November 15th.
David Pollack
All right, I'm gonna.
Unknown Speaker 2
Because, by the way, I'll give you the. I'll give you the three games.
David Pollack
I better say give me the game.
Unknown Speaker 2
At Ohio State, obviously, that we're going to talk about a little bit at Florida and then Oklahoma in the, in the Cotton Bowl. So, like, those three games are.
David Pollack
So it's more likely that. That Arch Manning will win the Heisman or go to the Heisman. Which one did you say?
Unknown Speaker 2
I said win. I get. I mean, okay, maybe you could win.
David Pollack
Or they'll have two losses before. Oh, geez, that's a good one. I, I support this one. Some of the other ones I might not, but if you phrase it that way, I would go Arch Manning when the Heisman. I don't think. I don't think. I don't think Texas is going to lose two or three games.
Unknown Speaker 2
Okay. So by the way, our, our buddy the Bear, Chris Felica, he said B by a wide margin. So he went. He went the opposite route by that.
David Pollack
Well, that's not surprising, though. That's not surprising by Bear.
Unknown Speaker 2
All right, so Penn State at number two. Do they A, finish the regular season undefeated or B, don't even make the Big Ten championship game? And you think at their schedule, don't.
David Pollack
Make the big championship game?
Unknown Speaker 2
Ohio State, Iowa, Indiana. That. Like, I think. But the, and the reason I put that there is because think about where they are in the preseason rankings and predictions and things like that. Everybody has them so high, but yet here we are thinking that the likelihood is greater that they're not even in the Big Ten championship game versus going undefeated.
David Pollack
Yeah, but.
Unknown Speaker 2
And here's the.
David Pollack
Who cares if you're not in the Big Ten championship game? You can still. You can still win the national championship. You can still go to the. So it really. I mean, obviously, I think Oregon's going to be in the mix. I think Penn State's going to be in the mix. I think Ohio State's going to be in the mix. So I just. Undefeated is hard. Like undefeated is going to be that.
Unknown Speaker 2
Now more so than ever.
David Pollack
Yeah, I just think that's really, really difficult. But Penn State is on my short list. Like, they're on my short list of teams like that that I was. I narrowed it down to three teams that I thought would win a Natty and they were one of them. Like, I think, I think this is Penn State's year. I think this is their year to stick their, their foot right in Brent Rollins mouth and everybody that says James Franklin can't win the big one and all that stuff. And listen, there's data to support it, okay? Like, it's not like it's a, it's a, it's a hot take and you're trying to be some of those guys that say something that's crazy.
Unknown Speaker 2
Significant data.
David Pollack
There's significant data, but this team is full of veterans and I think Penn State's going to have a great season. So what's next?
Unknown Speaker 2
And one thing, I think that earlier in the off season, but to me, you can't, like the leap that Aller can take this year, like from what his path over the past three years. Two years ago he was playing in a middle school offense. Now he played last season in a real football offense at that level and then gets a whole off season to work and go for it. I think he might take a big leap this season and help get to. That means.
David Pollack
That means he'll to complete a pass to a wide receiver in a big game because he didn't do that in the semifinal, which is crazy.
Unknown Speaker 2
That is correct. All Right. Ohio State. So a. Which is more likely? Jeremiah Smith is not Heisman finalist or they lose the Michigan again. So I guess this was a solid one.
David Pollack
I think this is good, too. Jeremiah Smith not a Heisman finalist, or they lose to Michigan again. I mean, the thing about. The only thing I'd say about this is, like, Jeremiah Smith has to stay healthy. Like, that's. That's the. That's the only issue. You go the other direction. But they got a Michigan problem. I mean, that's pretty. That's pretty dang apparent. And golly, I mean, I don't think there's any way if Jeremiah Smith stays healthy. I just don't think you can stop that super freak. So, like, he's. What he started a year ago. This year he gets to pick up where he left off. And I think he'll be at New York for the highs. And that's. That's one of the more confident picks I could have. So I'll go. I'll go that direction.
Unknown Speaker 2
Go. Go. Well, you'll go the other way more.
David Pollack
Yeah.
Unknown Speaker 2
More likely that they lose the Michigan.
David Pollack
Yeah.
Unknown Speaker 2
So Clemson. More likely that they all go. Go over versus the SEC again because obviously they have LSU in South Carolina.
David Pollack
Yeah.
Unknown Speaker 2
Or that they go undefeated in the reg.
David Pollack
I think it's more likely that they would go undefeated in the regular season.
Unknown Speaker 2
And that's both those games.
David Pollack
Oh, you're saying. Oh, I thought you meant outside of those two games.
Unknown Speaker 2
No. So, a. That they lose to both of their SEC games again because they were over three last year. So they either go. Which is more likely they go over two against the SEC or they go undefeated.
David Pollack
That's a great question, too. Like, look, I think I did a dirty job.
Unknown Speaker 2
Here were some of these.
David Pollack
But. But I'm just like, one and one is good. Like, one and one is not bad. So I. How do I vote on 1 and 1? Like, because none of the above.
Unknown Speaker 2
See?
David Pollack
None of the above. Because there's a. Like, there's a really good chance they could lose to one of those. And it's not shameful. Like, they got to go too cocky this year. Like, that's a hard place to play. Like, that's not. That's not easy. Thank goodness they host lsu. But, like, losing one of those two games, there's. That's not a. That's not disrespectful. Now, if you get run out of the building, obviously, it could be disrespectful, but I just. I don't think you're going undefeated so that, that's, we already talked about that with Penn State. Like I guess give me the losses because undefeated just aren't happening. Like that's just not going to happen in college football, I don't think.
Unknown Speaker 2
All right, fifth one Georgia more likely that they a lose two home games or be having a thousand, have a 1,000 yard receiver, have a 1,000 receiver.
David Pollack
They've got a 31 game home winning.
Unknown Speaker 2
Streak and like the last time by the way, but the last time they beat Alabama at home. Do you remember was I there? I mean was it that far back? Pretty, pretty sure you were there 2000. I didn't look up your stats but 2002, 2003. You actually based on there you were 20 against.
David Pollack
Yeah, that's right. That's right. We, we, we knocked Brody Coyle out of the game my sophomore year at home. We slapped him around so bad in our stadium. Like I felt bad for the guy. Like he, he literally couldn't finish the game. Yeah. And then we went to, we played him at like a, in Alabama but not at home the next season which was some kind of strange thing and we beat him on a walk off field goal. Really good offensive lineman Wesley Britt. But no, we beat them. Yeah, we were 20 against them but they're LA.
Unknown Speaker 2
So the reason I chose these two because obviously Georgia has the longest. The last home loss was in 2019 in South Carolina. But the other part, the a thousand, the 1000 yard receiver has only happened once ever and that was in 2002 with Terrence Edwards.
David Pollack
So these ever in the history of the school. Yeah, Georgia's only had 1,000 yard receiver in the history of their school.
Unknown Speaker 2
Yeah, it's like a thousand eight or four or something like that. Barely over a thousand yards.
David Pollack
That's a problem.
Unknown Speaker 2
So think, think about these two extremes here. So you're saying they're more likely to. And the other part was the home schedule because you've got Alabama, Texas, Ole Miss at home. So that was. And they lost two of those three.
David Pollack
The home schedule is getting snatched. Like you're not, you're not surviving the home winning streak. Like it's, it's going down this year like 100%. They're going to lose one game. I get those stats really made me change my mind. Like that's ridiculous. One in the history. Yeah, I'll take, fine, I'll take the, I'll take the thousand yards. Not going to happen.
Unknown Speaker 2
Okay, Notre Dame, I think I've preempted this one to you. The other day, do you think they're, A, going to wish they had gotten a Portal quarterback or B, finished the regular season undefeated?
David Pollack
They're not finishing the regular season undefeated. I, I think, you know, I, I think it's hard to always say, but they went shopping in the Portal a year ago and gosh dang, did it work out well, man. Two years, two last couple. Yeah, well, Hartman was fine. I don't think that worked out. Elite by any stretch. Through the Portal. Solid. It was solid. Well, I'm saying I don't. I didn't think it worked. To execution.
Unknown Speaker 2
Yeah.
David Pollack
To an elite level, but, man, I think they could have gotten somebody. I think they could have gone in there and I think they could have gotten someone with experience instead of. And a bunch of guys on your roster that you have, you know, you just don't have a lot of data on that hasn't played a lot of football that you're. You're hoping will become something. I feel like this roster is ready to win, and so I definitely would have gone to the Portal if I was Notre Dame. And at that quarterback spot, Cory Dean.
Unknown Speaker 2
I'm assuming Notre Dame fan, because it looks like the logos there says undefeated, baby. So he's going option B. Oregon, Kind of the same thing. Undefeated in the Big Ten regular season like they were your last year. Or more likely that they switch starting quarterbacks at some point in the season.
David Pollack
Switch starting quarterbacks. The, the. Again, the undefeateds are not, they're not in there. I'm not in this undefeated world anymore. Like, I'm just. Okay, I'm not on board. But, But I do think Notre Dame is going to be really good. Excuse me? Oregon. I think Oregon's going to be really good. I'm not worried about them, you know, retooling and reloading. But, but give me the switching quarterbacks because I just, I just don't. I don't see undefeated.
Unknown Speaker 2
And their schedule, by the way, they got to go to Penn State, but outside, no Ohio State, no Illinois this year. They get Indiana at home, have to go to Iowa. They get USC at home. So they got to get their schedule. Yeah, that's. That's another reason why I put that as, as the possibility.
David Pollack
A lot of unknowns, though.
Unknown Speaker 2
All right, so 8 Alabama. Is it more likely that they lose at Georgia, which they last did in 03, or lose at Auburn, which is always a sort of bear.
David Pollack
4Th and 31. Like 4th and 31 a couple years ago. Wasn't that what it was like?
Unknown Speaker 2
Exactly.
David Pollack
Hugh Free should have had his first big game win. Like everything would have been such a different trajectory for Auburn. But there's, there's something about the iron ball when they play at, when they play at home for Auburn that it's just, it's always a good game. So, I mean, I'll go Auburn. Here's the thing. You can say all you want, Georgia fans and you can get upset when we don't pick Georgia to win every game. And that's fine. Georgia's got an Alabama problem. Like, they've had an Alabama problem. So, yes, like, that's a, that's a real life thing. And, but, but Auburn at home has just been. And here's the weird thing, Gene Chiswick doesn't matter. Like, it's just been, it's been a, it's been unbelievable that they can switch coaches and kind of be in flux, be in turmoil and, and you still do. Okay, now listen, Auburn's. Where they're at right now is definitely is. They're in the, they're in the desert. Like they've been. This is a couple years stretch now of figuring things out, but I take them at Auburn.
Unknown Speaker 2
Okay. All right. So lsu, who's ninth currently, more likely that they A, make the College football SEC championship game and College Football Playoff, or B, that Brian Kelly is bought out, slash, looking for a new job.
David Pollack
Oh, come on, you're firing people now. I'd say make the playoff. I think, I think LSU's got a chance to be, I mean, they're not just, they're just one, one solid defensive year away from winning a championship. And I'm not ready to proclaim it, but I will say this. I think the pieces are there year two with their D.C. now, like you got. I can name defensive linemen, I can name linebackers, I can name secondary players. Like they've got some players now and they've just got to find a way to fix this defense. And if they do that, they're in the College Football Playoff. Like, that's, that's not too far to fetched.
Unknown Speaker 2
I will say they've lost three regular season games every year that he's been there. And it's one where, if you look, I think it was six months ago, $60 million, I think is his buyout. That's a lot, right? It's a, it's. Or maybe a little less than that. Like he's, I think it was a 10 year contract that he signed. This is year four, so. But that's like Edo won a national championship and two years later it was.
David Pollack
Yeah, well that's. And that's the problem with lsu. Edo national championship, Les Miles, national championship. Nick Saban, national championship. Their last three coaches, like, they ain't trying to go to bowl games, bro. Cephas. They're not trying to go visit Atlanta for the SEC championship game. Like, they're, they're a, we go to the Natty, we win the Natty. That's who we are. Like, so I, and listen, Brian's, Brian Kelly's made some good changes to his staff. He's understood what the state of Louisiana is in recruiting. I think he's getting that shifted and the focus being shifted. So yeah, I'll take the. I think they're more likely to go to the playoff.
Unknown Speaker 2
Which by the way, great comment by Sean in the chat that Pastor Jay would be really happy if that were the case.
David Pollack
Pastor Jay would be jacked.
Unknown Speaker 2
All right, last top 10 team as, as of as the current rankings. I went kind of two negative things with this one, because.
David Pollack
You just. You. All that negative needed to compound upon itself.
Unknown Speaker 2
No, because I think the likelihood of either of these happening are minimal. But if you had to pick one that actually happened again. So would A, Carson Beck throw double digit interceptions? Okay. Or B their defense gives up more than 25 points a game Again.
Unknown Speaker 6
All right everyone, let's talk about drinking and driving. A decision that will change your whole world. Things will never be the same once you get a DUI because legal fees, time in court are just the beginning. Getting into a crash is another way your world could be irreversibly changed. After drinking and driving, your vehicle may not be the only thing that gets damaged in that crash. You could face a life altering injury or even death. But you're not the only one who could face those consequences. Your decision to drink and drive could permanently change someone else's world, whether you injure them or leave their loved ones grieving. The next time you're out drinking, call a ride, Share a taxi, a sober friend, or a designated sober driver. Always plan for a safe ride home. The only decision that will change your world for the better is the decision to call for a sober ride. It's never worth it to drive drunk.
Unknown Speaker 2
Don't.
Unknown Speaker 6
Don't risk it. Drive sober or get pulled over. Paid for by nhtsa.

David Pollack
Man, they kind of go hand in hand too, because if the defense plays bad and they have to pass and they're not balanced and they can't protect Carson, obviously it's a problem. I mean, double digit interceptions isn't like, you know, if you get to 10, that's not atrocious. Like, it's not, it's not good. But I'd still say their defense. I'd say their defense over car. I. Again, I, I'm, I'm buying Carson Beck for having a great year. I think he's, I think he picked a great situation for him. I think he got paid. I think he picked you. Listen, there might have been some motivations outside of the football field of why he made his decision that I don't care. He picked a team that has a lot of talent, has a lot of weapons, and most importantly, can protect him up front. And so I think Carson Beck's gonna have a huge year.
Unknown Speaker 2
And the fact that the distraction that he potentially, that he picked potentially that school for is now not a distraction, I think is very much in his favor.
David Pollack
Yeah, I don't know anything about that crap. I don't know if that's still there. Is that, is that gone? Is that back? I. I don't know.
Unknown Speaker 2
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's. They, they've already. Yeah, no, that's. I think that's a thing of the past. We'll say. But yeah, so, yeah, that was my, that was my game. What did I do okay there.
David Pollack
Solid. Very solid. Only went to Negative Town a couple times. Only a little bit of a leak over from, from the other day. All right, so this is something I came up with Wes the other day. Just I think like, we'll finish on this and this will be a little Bit quicker, but early season games that will shape the playoff. Like host is, man, you got him out the gates. Like Brent, there's three week one. Like, that's matchups. That. That's not normal. You got Texas vs. Ohio State, a rematch from the playoff a year ago. Texas is. Is the favorite, obviously the number one team, you know, in the country and in the polls, and everybody's loving them to be a national championship contender but have to go on the road at Columbus. And I don't. Let me preface this, Brent. I don't think this knocks either one of them out of the playoff, but I need it more. But I think for seating purposes, that's what I think this game will matter like down the stretch of when you get the seating, because remember, we're earning buys now. We're not giving out buys for winning, you know, a championship and being ranked at a certain spot. Like, you've. You've got to earn your buy. And so I think this will go a long way in determining that. So that's why I think, by the way.
Unknown Speaker 2
So who do you think needs this game more? Who does this. Who does a win matter more to? Because to me, there is a definitive answer to this question.
David Pollack
Who you think?
Unknown Speaker 2
I think Texas. It. They need this win of this game way more than Ohio State does. Why State? Because of the conference and the. I think Ohio State can go still be 11 and 1 or 10 and 2 and they're in the playoffs. Texas, this game. And then we already asked the question earlier. What's more likely that they put, you know, they got to go to Georgia, they got to go to Florida, they got to play Oklahoma. Still a m. Like, they're scheduled to me, like. And obviously Arch has been crowned before. He's, you know, truly started and played a meaningful game that really struggles.
David Pollack
It really does bother you.
Unknown Speaker 2
No, not at all. Because I think it's gonna be really, really good. But.
David Pollack
Yeah, but it kind of bothers you that he's crowned. Listen, he's not the only guy before he starts, though. That's. Nor, like, there's plenty. He had some great moments that. That you tip the cap to of last year. But I think the. You know, here's what we saw from Texas a year ago, Brent. Where do we see Texas go last year? To the Big House.
Unknown Speaker 2
Oh, yeah. To Michigan.
David Pollack
Like, went to the Big House and took care of business. So interesting. You took your team into Big Ten territory last year. Huge game, huge ramifications. Obviously, for seating purposes. I think both teams will be in the Playoff. LSU at Clemson. Got a trivia game for you, Brett. Last time. How many years has it been since LSU won an opener?
Unknown Speaker 2
Oh, we. I think we talked about this. 2019 burrow.
David Pollack
Okay, how about this, though? In 2020, who did they lose to? Think, think through. They threw for like 6,000 yards in this football game. Think.
Unknown Speaker 2
Oh, Missouri. No, that, that.
David Pollack
Think Air Raid offense.
Unknown Speaker 2
West Virginia.
David Pollack
No, no, SEC School.
Unknown Speaker 2
Oh, Mississippi State. Because Polini was the defensive coordinator and Leech just threw the short game. Oh, yes, I remember that game now.
David Pollack
So Mike Leach. So listen to these team, these coaches that have beat. So in, in 2021, do you remember.
Unknown Speaker 2
Who beat him in the opener? Was that so 21, UCLA.
David Pollack
Chip Kelly took care of business against him.
Unknown Speaker 2
Didn't remember that he was there.
David Pollack
Yeah, that was a good. That was a good one. I remember them taking care of business. 2022 and 2023. Same guy, same staff. You should remember that. Remember the blocked field goal down the stretch or the extra point A couple years ago, Mike Norvell lost to them. And then last year, you should remember the opener.
Unknown Speaker 2
Yeah. Usc.
David Pollack
Usc, Lincoln Riley. So Mike Leach, Chip Kelly, Mike Norvell. Lincoln Riley is the name of coaches. So it's not, you know, it's not a bad list. But LSU at Clemson, the battle for the real Death Valley. I think this is. I think this is obviously huge, but I think it's. It's big for both. But I feel like this will have the same type of connotation as you put in Texas because lsu, a lot more opportunities for L's on the schedule. But if they get that W, how big would it be? Like this would be a big out of conference win. Game changing. Yes. A feather in the cap to. To a playoff team. A team that's going to be in the playoffs. So obviously could be a huge opportunity for lsu. And again, I'm going to talk about this during the season. When you go at a place, you. You get more credit. Okay. You get extra credit, you get bonus if you get wins on the road. Those are the hardest things to do. So you deserve more credit and more respect. But this will be a huge one.
Unknown Speaker 2
Same reason that I would say Texas needs to win that game. I think LSU needs to win this game. Yep, very much so.
David Pollack
Notre Dame at Miami. Notre Dame at Miami. This is big time. This, this is. This is big time. The way, the way I look at this one is Notre Dame only has a couple of opportunities to really show you something with their schedule. It's not. It's Not Murderers Row by any stretch of the imagination, but they've got two team. We can go ahead and do this too. I got A and M on this list too. So this is for the first three weeks of the season. We're not getting into. We're going the first three weeks small. But Notre Dame goes at Miami and A and M goes at Notre Dame. Like, if Notre Dame loses these two games, like, that's going to be very interesting and Notre Dame is breaking in their new guys at the new spots. And this is a tough spot in the season to do it in against new teams. Like you're going against teams that are really, really good teams, A and M, we know what they're going to be. We know who they're going to be. They know who they're going to be. They know who their quarterback's going to be. Miami has experience at quarterback, experience all over the field. Notre Dame breaking in a new trigger man at Miami against a really good football team that I think could possibly go into the playoffs in terms of need.
Unknown Speaker 2
I think Miami needs this game more than Notre Dame. This game specifically for Persona and big.
David Pollack
Like just people looking at him and.
Unknown Speaker 2
Well, mainly just because, like I think they need it because they might lose some of the games in their conference and they also got to play Florida like they need it to, to not be last year. Like last year when they were 10 and 2 and left out. Like if they end up 10 and 2 and this is one of those 10, then that's huge for them. Notre Dame, to me, if they're, you know, this is their only loss. Or now if Notre Dame goes and loses, both, that can't happen. I agree. Now now a 10 and 2 Notre Dame is, is scratching, calling and hoping that there's a gazillion nine and three or eight and four teams. Yes, but.
David Pollack
And even then it'll be interesting debate if some of those teams, like an LSU that they lost to Clemson, who's the number one team in the country but beat a couple of good teams. Right. So yeah, obviously the wins. That's the thing that's always weird with me, the committee. Is it, is it like the wins that matter more or is it the losses and usually the bad losses are the ones that kind of catapult you and anchor you down. But Notre Dame at Miami, A and M at Notre Dame, both of those two is going to be really, that's big time, big time games in the first three weeks of the season, like, like you don't have time to break In a new guy. Like, it's go time right now and.
Unknown Speaker 2
You got a trigger like we talked about. No, no preseason.
David Pollack
All right. Last couple, Michigan at Oklahoma. I think this is one of the bigger games, man. Again, another measuring stick. I love getting SEC in Big Ten. You know, both of these teams, it's going to be interesting to see where they're going. There's, there's hype for both squads, both teams. You look at playoff predictions, they're. They're, they're in the mix, right? They're both in the mix. Michigan has to go down to Oklahoma. Texas, we talked about, came up to Michigan a year ago, but tell me this isn't a pretty big one for that playoff fringe contention. I think this season, very much so.
Unknown Speaker 2
And I think it's much like with some of these others, with the way the schedule works out. This is way more important for Oklahoma to me than it is Michigan. One, they're home and two, their schedule in the SEC is just not fun in any way, shape or form. They got the short in the stick. We've talked about this in a long time, but they need this game just as much for that part. But also just the sheer positive vibes. You've got this whole new quarterback, new offense. Every, you know, everything's going on. The uptick, a lot of positivity. You'd want to win that game at home and not lose that game at home. Looking like if you lose that game at home. And now you're looking at the gauntlet of the schedule they have in the sec, it's like it's hurt you kind of over before.
David Pollack
Almost, Almost an elimination. I mean, I would feel for those two teams.
Unknown Speaker 2
I agree.
David Pollack
Yeah, I would feel pretty. I think both of these teams are fringe playoff teams. They could get hot like Michigan. Obviously, the big unknown is quarterback play. But we talked about, like, it can't get worse. Like, it can't get worse than what it was a year ago in Oklahoma, obviously, just completely retooling, rebuilding, but doing it with transfers and guys that have experience. So I wouldn't bet on that game. Neither is John Mateer. Last one. I'm going. When you. When you go week three, just two fringe teams. These are fringe. These are the next two. I think in that realm that will matter. Florida at lsu. That's a big one to me. LSU again on this list. And that's why you said it was important for the Clemson game. Florida plays Miami as well the next week. Like, Florida's got obviously a tough schedule, just like We've talked about with Oklahoma. So I had them on there and then Georgia at Tennessee. Like that's a Tennessee interested to watch them. Their schedule is one of the better ones in the sec. They beat Georgia. You know, obviously the Bama game will be big for them, but the schedule sets up pretty nicely. They could lose another game, two games, still be that type of team they were a year ago, not go to the SEC championship game and be very much in the playoff. And you know, that's all you want is a chance to try to win the whole thing in the end.
Unknown Speaker 2
Very much so. And that's going to be Gunner Stockton's first true road game. Obviously the. The game against Notre Dame was neutral site and kind of split. But this is also one of those ones where at the moment Tennessee kind of has a Georgia problem. We've talked about Georgia having a Bama problem and you know, some of these other team, you know, I. State having a Michigan problem. Tennessee has a Georgia problem. And that's one where Hypo's offense, like if you look. I did it last season. His points per game in SEC game, the offensive points per game and SEC games against everybody else is something in the mid-30s. And then against Georgia it's like 17 or 16 or something like that. It's. It's a completely different animal. So who's playing qb? I think is kid is gonna.
David Pollack
Because it's. It's. Obviously, you know, it didn't help with Aguilar missing spring ball.
Unknown Speaker 2
Yep.
David Pollack
But Aguilar is getting paid a lot of money and there's a reason they went and got him. He's got the experience. I definitely lean that direction. But. But there's. There's a lot of good games on the schedule. That's why we're jacked up and excited. That's why if your wife like has plans for you the first week of the season, like you get out of them, like find something else.
Unknown Speaker 2
It's a holiday weekend too.
David Pollack
Whatever you are doing, that's that. That weekend. Like cancel all the plans. You can find other things to do other times. And if there's a wedding, like that's their fault for having a wedding during that time. You. You have absolute right to skip. I have brought an iPad to a wedding before. You ever done that? I literally brought an iPad and watched the whole time football while somebody.
Unknown Speaker 2
I mean most people do their phones now. And I've heard people talk about iPad.
David Pollack
Like I was. I. I made no bones about. I'm like baby doll, if I'M doing this. Like, I'm, I'm doing it. Like we're not. I'm not worried about. I'm coming and I'm going to support, but like, I'm watching football. Let's not get, let's not get crazy.
Unknown Speaker 2
Have you ever heard the managerial terms presenteeism versus absenteeism? Okay, so absenteeism is what?
David Pollack
Obviously not being there.
Unknown Speaker 2
You're not physically there. You had some presenteeism right there. You were physically there, but your mind was completely in another world.
David Pollack
And that's. And that's called priorities and perspective. And that's what it should be with college football. That's why we're here on Sea Ball. Get Ball. Because we love football. We love to follow it. Thanks for. Thanks for joining us, dudes. We'll be back next week and I apologize. I need to apologize for the vampel. That was my fault. We had a text snafu back and forth. He saw when I promoted the show and he was like, bro, wrong weekend. My fault, Scott. So we'll get SVP next Wednesday, bro. We're right around the corner. It's here.
Unknown Speaker 2
It's upon us here every Monday and Wednesday and then once the games start. So I, I know we've talked about it. I don't know that we've settled on it, but we're gonna be like, live after all the, all the games on that first weekend. I don't know. I would think so.
David Pollack
Let's put it this way, Brent. If you're not joining, I will be like, I'm, I'm in. Like, I'm going to be watching this crap and going, I'm going all in because it's such a great weekend. So thanks for joining us. Thanks for continuing to help us grow. Do all that, like, rate subscribe stuff. Comment only if it's nice, because Brent does it like, nice. Somebody made him cry that comment the other day. Like, his feelings are still hurt. But appreciate y' all and we'll see you next week.

The hosts engage in a detailed analysis of the top 10 college football teams, presenting "more likely" scenarios to predict the season's outcomes. Each team is evaluated based on potential wins, losses, and key player performances.

The discussion shifts to Penn State's prospects, debating whether the team will finish undefeated or miss the Big Ten Championship:

[26:07]
Pollack emphasizes Penn State's veteran roster and strategic advantages, positioning them as strong contenders for the national title.
Focusing on Notre Dame, the hosts analyze their quarterback situation and potential challenges against Miami and A&M:

A debate ensues over Alabama's game against Auburn and LSU's playoff aspirations versus potential coaching changes:
