And how about that Pollock interception in the end zone? Well, it's David Pollock and I think people are going to learn what kind of ballplayer is. He's got a heart of a lion. I'm real proud of that kid.

American, seven time Emmy award winner. Man, if you think you're safe in any way, in any weekend, you better think again. It's the weeks that we talk about like nothing's gonna happen. There's not a lot of big games to talk about. Obviously a Lot of upsets across college football. Some really, really big ones to talk about. We're not mentioning Penn State. Yeah, that's not a big one. But first, Miami and Florida State. I think that we've had a lot of debate across college football, rightfully so, like, who's the best team in the country? And Miami had a chance to answer that question right off the bat against Florida State. They've had a really good schedule up until this point. That's why I feel like Miami is the best team in the country. But they've had a good chance to prove it against a good FSU team to go on the road, because people wanted to see that and interested to see how Florida State responded from the overtime loss to they come back out. How about the first drive? Man, Florida State, you know, it's so hard to prepare for Florida State because, like, you can go as fast as you want in practice. You can't replicate how they live. And unless that's what you do, you can't replicate it. And that first drive, man, they go 78 yards, like, right down the field. Miami bows up in the red zone, forces them to kick a field goal. Felt like they kind of got it back and won some of that. That first possession back because obviously, you know, Florida State kind of had their way with the tempo. Get the stop, get the field goal. From that point on, 78 yards in that drive until the fourth quarter, till the start of the fourth quarter. The rest of that, FSU barely had 100 yards. Miami's defense flying around. We talk about the ends, we talk about them getting to the quarterback. How about, like, the trick plays of Florida State? That's one thing that they do exceptionally well, as well as anybody in the country, is when Gus dials those up. It looked like Miami had 13 players on the field sometimes. I mean, the speed was so impressive. Like, they've just got so many guys that they continue, you know, to rotate in and out that are fast, that are physical. They're trying to destroy you. And the turnovers, obviously, were the biggest difference in the ball game. Did Miami get conservative? Yes, that's what they do, right? When they get up, they get conservative. But they. They were flying around. They were physical. They forced three turnovers, and it was the. It was the two ints, it was the one fumble, and then it was just. They take advantage of it. And, you know, me and Brent talked about it this week. We talked about the deep ball for Carson Beck. You think it worked? I'd say it worked all right. And I would say Malachi Toney is pretty much, he's entered that conversation for one of the best receivers in the country, and he's probably the best freshman football player in the country. Just continues to make play after play. I mean, so good, so explosive after the catch, the deep ball. I think the thing that's most impressive with him is he can catch the short ball and he can take it to the house. He even slipped on one of those touchdowns he caught and still took it to the house. He took another one to the house that got called back. But like big time, big time throws by Beck. But I think it's the, it's the, it's the intermediate passing game, it's the short passing game. Like, they really did a good job attacking, I think Florida State's issue. They're like, we're going to crowd the box, we're going to stop the run, like 100% going to do that. And Brent, they, they did it. They, they got up in the box. Brent, they, they were, they were physical, but Carson Beck and Tony were on the same page and they made plays at the right time with the sudden change and did just enough of the deep ball and the explosive plays to keep Florida State off balance.
Host 2 (College Football Analyst)
We've talked about it before, I think, or I think I've mentioned at least before earlier in the season about how Tony is the perfect receiver for Carson Beck because of how he wins instantaneously at the line of scrimmage and Beck is a. Gets the ball out fast all the time. Now, one thing you mentioned about Florida State and how they went fast early, got down the field, got stopped and then the trick plays. Yeah, that was, to me, I looked at this game as a philosophical miss from Florida State because to me, they played this game like there was only one half. I, I felt like they should have because the other team, you know, Miami, was more physically dominant and the way they can do things, I, I feel like Florida State should have been like, okay, we can live with, you know, three yards here, three yards here. And they kept going east, west and trying to hit these hate to hit the big trick plays versus just staying in the game.
Host 1 (College Football Analyst)
I hear you, I hear you, and I understand exactly what you're saying. And obviously Hindsight is always 2020, but this is who Florida State is.
Host 2 (College Football Analyst)
Yes.
Host 1 (College Football Analyst)
You can't ask them to change who they are. The reason they're so dynamic is because of the reverses. It's because of the flea flickers. They do such a good job of like making you guard the whole field and catching you off balance and then wearing you out with that tempo. Here's the thing, man. Like, they're running their flea flickers and their tosses. Miami so dagum fast, and they're in the backfield so quickly, it's like, holy cow. Like, they already. They already got pie the first fake, and they're like, they're in the backfield getting to the quarterback. It's not just three and four. Like, when you start to see, you know, you got to fit. You got Fitzgerald in the back end, who's a true freshman, who's now got three picks. You got Jacoby Thomas, who's flying around like, you've got speed all across the board that hunt, that play with bad intentions. So I understand what you're saying, But. But they. They. They try. I think the best chance they had, honestly, the best thing they did was run it up the middle a little bit. Like, they did a good job. I thought it was running at him.
Host 2 (College Football Analyst)
Right ahead, but yeah.
Host 1 (College Football Analyst)
But then guess what? You turn the football over a couple times, Carson Beck puts it on you. You get in a passing situation with Miami, I don't care if you're o. I don't care if you're the best college football team that was ever constructed. When you get in passing situations, you are in trouble because they pin their ears back and they hunt and they hunt like they ain't never ate before, man. Like, it was absolutely fantastic. And you got to give Crystal Ball a lot of credit, man. Like, it looks different. It looks like it's been building, and it looks like now they got the D.C. covered. They got the O.C. covered. They got the right players, they got the experience. And listen, you got to give coaches all time to develop and grow. Just like Kirby. Kirby wasn't one of the best coaches in the country when he started at Georgia. Was he an elite recruiter? Yes. Was he elite defensive coach? Yes. Did he learn how to manage the game? Like, a hundred percent. Like, that's a big part of it. But I just think that Miami is definitely proven to me they're the best team in the country so far this season.
Host 2 (College Football Analyst)
I personally wouldn't go that far, but I understand that. But think about how beautiful their schedule has set up for them this year. You had two. You talked about, hey, it's like they knew that they were going to be 13 guys on the field. They had a week, you know, they had an extra week to prepare, and now they get another week off and then play a Friday night game against Louisville and I would borderline. Outside of just some wonkiness either at SMU or at pit late when it's freezing cold. I almost put them in pen. As an undefeated regular season team.
Host 1 (College Football Analyst)
Yeah, I'm not ready for anybody this year because just like when we opened the show, man, like, I don't. I don't think anybody's good enough to say that. I just don't. Because I think everybody can have a bad week now. Like, I think the teams that we're saying that are the best teams in the country. If we're talking about Ohio State and we're talking about Miami, like, you know what their defense is going to bring and injuries happen. And here's the thing. Let's not act like this thing is static. Let's not act like this season doesn't change. Miami is the clear winner in the first part of the season. To me, like, it's clear. They. They've played a good schedule. They've played a really good schedule up until this point. They've been extremely dominant up until this point. That's why, to me, they're the number one team in the country. But this thing will get. This thing will grow as it gets along. People are going to start to get better. People are going to get hot. Like, all that matters is in the end, that's all that really matters. And that's why today, like, upset Saturday, man, we talk a lot about the sec, but the Big Ten, like Penn State, they just got got by ucla, like, and losses to unranked teams. How about this today, Penn State number seven to an unranked team. Number nine, Texas to an unranked team. Iowa State to an unranked team. Like preseason number one, Texas. Preseason number two, Penn State, preseason number four, Clemson. Do you know what their combined record is? Their combined record is now 8 and 7. 8 and 7 and Texas. And Penn State hasn't even beaten a powerful opponent yet. Like, just think about that, people. Like, that is absolutely madness. And that probably articulates a point that people say, hey, you know what? We don't need preseason polls. That might be part of the reason. I think they're kind of necessary to get at least a thought process going. But you're right, we could probably watch the first couple of weeks and get to it. But look, I think we should get to Penn State because here's the thing about Penn State, man, like James Franklin, criticism, throw it to him. Can't beat top 10 teams. Obviously. That is a huge deal. Disappointed like crazy last week. You lose In a white out to a really good football team. Penn State fans are still upset he can't win the big one. How you feeling now? Good. Gosh, like you think you can go across the country with not very many people watching? Because UCLA was not packed by any stretch of the imagination against a team that hasn't won a game yet. Like, oh, and for ucla, they fired their coach. Like he's literally gone. He's not in the hot seat, he's gone. You're a 24.5 favorite. 24 and a half point favorite. Like UCLA doesn't beat top 10 teams. That's not what they do. They can't beat New Mexico for God's sakes. And they haven't had a lead the entire season. UCLA has not led for one minute of a single game so far this season. That's what Penn State was going to after disappointment with the James Franklin not beating top teams and you lose to that. Like I can't defend James Franklin, I can't defend Penn State. Like Jim Knowles comes over and supposed to be a provide the defense and really get them moving and grooving. Because listen, Penn State's defense has been good for years and years and years. Like maybe now take them over the top. That was flat out embarrassing. Like there's no other way to say it, man. I don't like saying that and I'm not trying to like crap on people, but like that was embarrassing. I mean UCLA averages 14 points a game. They had 27 at the half. And credit to Jerry Neuheisel like big time kudos. And they were carrying him off the field. He got the Madden treatment, man, like big time treatment. He's got the flowing blond locks like his like his dad used to. But they had 27 at the half. And how about the way UCLA started getting the ball out of, out of Nico's hands. Nico running, you know, changing, changing who they are, not taking sacks, protecting him really well because Jerry New Heisel, who's a tight end coach now the play caller, they rushed for 269 yards against Penn State. Like Penn State's defense hasn't been the problem. Like we've documented Drew Aller and what he is and how he's been too quick to go through his reads and the offense has not been explosive passing the ball down the field. We've documented that like crazy. That's not the problem when you give up 27 at the half. And, and I just, I like when teams like UCLA like take a moment and go try to win instead of stay in games, they get on the field, they score. What do they do? Kick an onside and get it. Like, that's exactly how you should play the, Play the football game. You're, you're in a talent deficit. You know who you are. Go play the game to win. They did, man. And we talked about Nico losing the, like, losing Tennessee, like UCLA lost the trade with Nico. Nico looked like the guy that we thought he would be. That dude was absolutely on fire. I mean, running the football, throwing the football like he had. He threw for two touchdowns, he ran for three touchdowns, had the huge third and 15 scramble early. Like he was absolutely on, on fire. He was balling out. Penn State, you know, they tried to mount a comeback and special teams even helped him out too. Like, special teams got the block, punt and, and scored. But the, the defense, man, they, they let him out. They let them down. And Drew Aller and this offense, just like last week, a week ago, man, they come back, they did a good job of fighting getting back in the football game, but too little, too late.

And, you know, I just, I didn't think that it was possible for me to say that, like, that UCLA is a more physical team than Penn State. Like that, that, that shouldn't, like, that should make me like kind of throw up in my mouth a little bit. Like it shouldn't ever happen. And it absolutely happened. And it was, it was an embarrassing loss for Penn State, man. And there's, there's no other way to swing it. There's no other way to talk about it in a positive light. But it's, it's a bad day. It's. James Franklin. The calls for him are going to be mad. It's, it's a good indication of your quarterback when you fourth and two, it's, he's going to run it. They're not going to let him throw it right. Like, he, that's just, it's, it's, it's the state of, it's the state of Penn State. And they're not going to the playoff. Like, when we do our eliminator later in the week, guys, I'm ready to, I'm ready to throw them in there. Like they're not going to the playoff. Like I'm, I'm out on Penn State. Like, they're, they're struggling like crazy, but, you know, you wondered about all the different, you know, parity and craziness in college football. And Penn State was the team that we talked about having all the guys back at the right spot with the experience, and they've absolutely not performed up to standards with a new DC with a bunch of guys that have been there, played a lot of football. So that's all I got to say about Penn State. Sorry, Penn State fans. You know, we are not positive right now because we are struggling. The last two games, the next game, man, like, I thought the weather was absolutely perfect for the football game to start with Florida, like, absolutely perfect. I mean, it was, like, it was nasty. It was dreary. The cameras. The camera was wet, like, and it was just one of those games. We talked about Florida coming off a buy, but we haven't seen enough offense. Florida's defense has been really, really good, and you saw that today. You saw SAP and company. You saw, you know, tfls. You saw Arch get hit all the time. But it was about Florida's offense and can Florida's offense, you know, make enough plays? How about Jaden Ball the first drive getting eight touches. How about Jaden Ball getting 27 touches? How about three of the first drive, four drives for Florida was 10 plus plays. And it was absolutely, make no bones about it, Play physical, run the football like that's who we're going to be. And we've. We've talked about Florida, like, they haven't done that enough. And Brent Great gave you some great numbers on Jaden Ball and how he's one of the best in the country at breaking tackles, the second best in the country next to Ahmad Hardy, like, but. But they haven't given him those opportunities, and he got plenty of those opportunities. Making Taft missed on the goal line on the first possession. Like, he's so big and strong, but dad gum, is he good and quick with his feet? And that's what makes him, I think, really, really special. And hello, DJ Lagway. Like, the one sidearm spin that bean was, was absolutely dirty. And I hope y' all know what I'm talking about. If you don't, all you got to do is probably look it up, like fading back in the pocket sidearm, just spit it out. And it was right on the money. And it was unbelievable. It was. It was. It was fun to watch Florida fight. It was fun to watch them not give up. I think Florida's lost to some good teams. USF is probably a big miss regardless. I think, obviously, the loss to Miami, obviously, the Loss to lsu. I feel very Florida's not going to be an easy out and Ball will continue to get his touches. Lagway goes 21 of 28 and for 292, two touchdowns. And we can talk about the special teams with the block punt for a safety. Big time for Florida, like to build that lead. But let's also not forget like if you're watching that game, that's the first time ever that Florida started two freshman wide receivers. They started Brown and they started Wilson. And if you didn't watch Dallas Wilson, oh my gosh, like have some fun, like that's the first time we've seen him this season. He's been banged up but six, three, you know, over 200 pounds, super physical. The body control up the sideline with the toe tap. He makes the 55 yard touchdown when, when Texas had cut it to eight like so not only can Florida run the football, not only did they get that rolling having Dallas Wilson out wide, who looks like an absolute student, like an absolute stud, that's going to make Florida even more of a pain in the butt down the, down the stretch. And lag. Brent Lagway was, was really good, man. Like, that was the, that was the best version of Lagway we've seen this season. And I think Florida fans are going, yes, thank you. Where is that guy been?
Host 2 (College Football Analyst)
It was interesting how they attacked Texas. I thought they very much attacked Texas from an edge standpoint.
Host 1 (College Football Analyst)
Yep.
Host 2 (College Football Analyst)
And a lot of the, especially early in the game, crossers galore to get them running side to side and get, and get their athletes and get DB3, Brown, the Fret, the other freshman that you mentioned. But what you brought up with Dallas Wilson, I think when we talk about parody in college football, what's the trump card? What's the trump card that you as a team want to have more so than any other team? I think right now the elite wide receiver is the trump card because you look at what Tony has done for Miami. We just talked about a little bit. Look at what Dallas Wilson did today making plays and then even Brown as another freshman. And then obviously Jeremiah Smith is the best player in the sport. Like the when you have that big time elite wide receiver, it's a massive trunk card for your offense in, in this sort of world of college football, which all the time in a way. But now a so than ever.
Host 1 (College Football Analyst)
So now we can spin it to the other side because Texas doesn't have that like and I, I, I, I don't know, Brent. At one point I Wrote this down, literally in my notes. I was like, and. And I hate this for Texas fans. I'm sorry, guys, but, like, we. We got to be honest here. We're always going to be honest here at cball. Get ball. I was like, all right, where is Texas? Really good on offense. And I was like, o line. No running back. No. Wide receiver, no qb. No tight end? No. Like, Arch had some moments today that were really good. Like, he had some moments he was getting harassed the whole game. So, like, that's not all on Arch. There's no run game. There's no run game for Texas. Last year, they were a team that could pound you right in the face, run the football play action, do all those things off of it. There's none of that this year, guys. Now here's. Here's what I will say. I still see Sark dialing up plays that are touchdowns. There's a double move that was a touchdown that Arch missed. He also got hit. I mean, that's not. That wasn't all on him. That has to be thrown up in the air. He has. He has the guy beat by 20 yards. They can't miss the double pass from Wingo to Andres. Like, he misses. He's not. He's like, there's some plays that are dialed up that you're leaving on the field if you're Texas. But I don't think, like, Texas's defense obviously didn't have a great day. They got beat. They gave up big plays. But I just. I don't think that I saw Arch heat up and I saw him make some big plays. I don't think he's good enough to carry this team without giving them help around him. And I don't see their. I don't see the complimentary parts being good enough for this Texas team to. To be a team that's going to be in contention to win a national championship. The defense can carry the day some, but I just, I think if you're a Texas fan, you're frustrated because you got one of the best play callers in football. You've seen it over and over again. You even see Saul spurts in a game where you got dominated, but it's just. It's not clicking and it's not there and there's a lot to replace. And we. And we do this every year. I did, too. I said, okay, receivers going to come in at Texas. They're going to replace it and they're going to be fine. Tight end is going to come in. It's like transfers, offensive lines going to come in and it just didn't hit. And it did. It, it, it was a miss. It wasn't what it was a year ago. And Texas has taken obviously a huge step back. And yeah, the chat says check Texas deserve to lose the game. And you're absolutely right. Like it didn't deserve to be that close to be honest.
Host 2 (College Football Analyst)
Two thoughts 1. So at 5:54 today, at some point during the game, I tweeted Arch Manning running is the only above average thing on Texas's offense right now.
Host 1 (College Football Analyst)
So we were brain tracking on that one.
Host 2 (College Football Analyst)
Yes. And then the other part you mentioned about their offense and lack of running game. We talked about the offensive line coming into the season. But there's one other thing that maybe we haven't mentioned or haven't really talked about maybe enough and that's the fact that the SEC schedule was the exact same it was as it was a year ago. Texas's first year in the SEC was a year ago. So now you've got an entire, you know, schedule of defensive coordinators that have been able to spend an off season looking at the tape against their team and then get to play them again this season. There's an element to me and they probably all went and watched the Georgia tape because Georgia took care, you know, for the most part dominated them in two games defensively. So like even Ohio State too. So there's an element of learning and is involved in there. When you start playing each other in a conference schedule year in, year out, these coaches learn each other and they're learning some of the things with Sark and you have to now physically dominate.
Host 1 (College Football Analyst)
That also works on offense and defense. Both sides watch tape, both sides get to adjust to each other. But like either way, this offense I don't think has a chance to be elite. Football is so much more than a single season. It's something you look forward to 365 days of the year. Like I really don't. The best thing they did a year ago was run and be physical. The shine of number one is gone, it's not coming back and Texas is going to be fighting like heck to even try to be in contention to make a playoff spot. And right now, what I'm seeing from them, I don't see that. So let's go somewhere else.

What's more likely? Yeah, that they arch wins the Heisman or they have two losses before they go play Georgia? They got two losses and now they gotta go play Oklahoma next week. And I bet they were feeling pretty good about themselves right now.
Host 1 (College Football Analyst)
Yeah, they definitely not meeting expectations. Vandy and Bama, this met expectations. This was, this was fun to watch. Like this was a fun game. And here's the thing about this game. Like this game, it could not have started any better for Vanderbilt like this. This game was perfect for Vanderbilt. I say that because I love it. How about this, you want to talk about how Vanderbilt feels about their defense this year? They win the toss and they defer. Like I'm good. Bama, you can have the football. You've been torching folks. You've been on fire. Take the football. What do they do to Bama? Goes right down the field. What does Vandy do? They cause the first turnover of the season for Alabama. Alabama has not given the ball up yet. Vanderbilt gets it on the first possession. They play ground and pound. They go right down the field and take a 7 nothing lead. Like it could not have gone any better. Like last year. Caught him by surprise. Nobody thought Vanderbilt was good this year. Everybody knows Vanderbilt's for real and they still come out the gates hot. Which I think was, was a pivotal moment in this football game. They needed to do that. Then, then Bama goes down the field, misses a field goal. And I think the really the play of the game like when Vanderbilt goes back down the field with a chance to go up and really extend the lead and put some real pressure on Bama like, like Florida State did, you know, get them a little bit behind and make them be a one dimensional which they want to pass more than they want to run anyways. Justin Jefferson, not that Justin Jefferson, not the gritty Justin Jefferson in the, in the, with the Vikings. But Justin Jefferson makes one of the plays. Not the season. It was one. It was one of the plays of the game. Like great job hitting Pavia. It was the first third down Alabama's defense even faced. They were reeling. Everything was going Vanderbilt's way. He reaches in Pavia puts his hands down to stay up, rips the football out. You know, Bama goes down, right down the field, scores. And it's seven to seven. And that was, that was the big turning point. There was a couple of them but like Alabama from that point on they, they executed better. Their defense really, really locked in. Like their defense has not been great. And that was one of the question marks. Could they stop the run? They couldn't stop the run in the beginning of the game at all. And then they started to get used to the speed. That is the weirdest thing I've ever said in my life. They started to get used to the speed of Van. Vandy like they started to get used to how they were. They were reading and then Vandy did a good job of counter punching as well. But you know, I think the craziest thing about it was Vanderbilt's defense. Like they were getting to Simpson, you know, more than Georgia did. Like they were getting in the backfield, they were getting tackles for losses, they were getting sacks. Like they did a really good job of, of affecting Ty Simpson. And Ty freaking Simpson has bawled the freak out like to. I'm, I've seen enough, like I've seen enough to put this dude in the, in the conversation for the Heisman. I don't know how high you want to have him. Obviously John Mateer has been gone for a little while and there's going to be, you know, Jeremiah Smith's probably always going to be in that debate. But like Ty Simpson was under duress and just calmly will slide to his left, slide to his right, buy some time, throw the football, run to his left, throw the football. Like he absolutely makes so many plays for this offense. Like they ran the power read, they ran speed option with Ty Simpson. Like they literally, you know, did a little bit of everything. He did a little bit of everything. And the biggest difference in the football game was Ty Simpson was better than, than Diego Pavia. He was better like Ty Simpson improv better than Diego. He scrambled around, he squared his shoulders up, made plays, made throws, bought time running to the sideline, bought time and played. Thank God we got another Kaden Proctor sighting and he got handed the football which was fantastic. Won a. I'm here for. But the biggest, biggest difference in the football game was Alabama in the red zone. Alabama was 5 for 5 in the red zone. Alabama outrushed Vandy. They outgained Bandy. They were way better on third downs. Does this sound familiar? This is something that Vanderbilt did to them. Time of possession, 36 to 24. This is all the things that happened last year, like on the other side of the coin. And Bama answered all of those, man, they did a great job of, you know, and then, and then I think the, the coolest part, Brent, to me at the very end, the coolest part was Alabama finished this game like the Alabama of old. Alabama finished this game. Like when Nick Saban was there, like ground and £15 play drive, 8 minutes and 30 seconds. Like it's a run. You're not going to stop it. Like exerted their will. Like Bama fans had to be like, yes, I've been waiting for this. Like to have this Kind of a run game to, to put a stamp on it like. And that's the way Alabama fans have to feel about the way they finished. Man, it was, it was really, really impressive. You know. No, no knock on, no knock on Vandy. Vanderbilt's had a good, a good season up until this point but today they got, they got outclassed by Alabama. Yes. You can scrunch your face if you want. They got outclassed by Alabama.
Host 2 (College Football Analyst)
Yes. But I think I, I look at that game and take away from that game is that, I don't know, I don't think Vanderbilt's going anywhere. Like their defense played for the most like especially in the red zone played well. They turned it over and we're about to take it. You know, Fabio just tucks the ball away. They're, they're up 10 nothing and the, the play of the game for me outside of what you talked about with Jefferson with the punch out was, I think it was, I think it was 20 to 14. And yes, Simpson right by the sideline just like a late pop pass on a third down and Vandy would have gotten some, some decent field position there with a chance to, you know, go down and score and like him with his legs, I mean he's an assassin with his arm when you leave him clean, especially in the middle of the field. I think I thought Greg McElroy, I don't know if he, the coaches told him or he, it was his, his own point but he said how Simpson works inside out versus outside in. Yeah, a lot of young quarterbacks do that to me is. And that's where you can own teams. And Bama owned the middle of the field and they did. Now there were definitely some people that were happy because of that last rushing touchdown.
Host 1 (College Football Analyst)
That's yes, the, the COVID which a lot of people took. Hey, another part like when that score was big time is Simpson made that play after. But Pavia throws the pick on the 10 yard line. Going in again where it's 20 to, it's 20 to 14. It's a six point game. So you turn the ball over twice going into score. So that's not like yeah, you got to feel good about that. But they had a 20 play sequence where they had 79 total yards for, for Vandy. Like Alabama, their defense has been very optional to start this season. Not elite by any stretch and their defense was not getting to Pavia and getting time and they still were doing a good job in the back end. So it was, it was a good day for Bama much better day than last year. Because last year, obviously, was one of the most embarrassing things. You know, speaking of embarrassing, by the way, I thought uc, I thought Iowa State should have been, like, they should be embarrassed. Like, Iowa State. That was embarrassing. Like, on a multitude of fronts. You're out a couple of corners. You're out a couple corners. Iowa State, I get it. But for Cincinnati to come out in that football game and to absolutely run the football down your throat like that is what your. Your. Your program is built on toughness. Your program is built on physicality. Your program is built on stopping the run, not giving up the big play. Like, man, Iowa State came out like they were not ready. The penalties. Matt Campbell got a personal foul. Like, I've never seen that in my life. Like, he's one of the most mellow guys ever. And so just, you know, it's not. It's not a discrediting Cincinnati. Cincinnati came out with physicality. They rushed the football for over 260 yards. They jumped on him. And Sorsby, we talked about him like he's been playing at an elite level. And the way they get him on the perimeter and he uses his athletic ability, it's a pain in everybody's butt because I also was really impressed with Cincinnati's offensive line and their physicality. Like, they got on those zone tracks, man, and they move people, like, they move people out of the way. And he ran the power ready out wide and then pulled it and then threw it like he. He did. So they have a good, creative offense, but to get down like that early by getting smashed. And in Cincinnati, breaking tackles left and right, like, Iowa State kind of proved like. And listen, the injuries. They're down three corners at one point. The injuries are the injuries. But you can't let somebody line up and do that to you. And you can't tell me you weren't ready for that. Ready for my. You better be ready for my question. Do you know what I'm talking about? Because.
Host 2 (College Football Analyst)
Are you talking about number three?
Host 1 (College Football Analyst)
No, that one, too.
Host 2 (College Football Analyst)
Running back for six.
Host 1 (College Football Analyst)
I'll let you bring that up in a minute, but how about this? They score before the half to get back in the football game, Brent. They go for two, they get it. So now it's 15 to 31. So do your math in your head, Brent. 15 to 31. They score next to kick off the second half, and they kick an extra point. That doesn't make sense to me. Like, you went for two. I thought for that reason, to make this a Chance to cut to a two possession game. If you score the next one, they kick it. They're fighting the whole rest of the game. Like, why do we not go for two again? I didn't understand that at all. And if you really want to get me upset and you really want to get me like frustrated and annoyed with Iowa State, who's a team that I love, who's a team that doesn't, doesn't beat themselves like we talked about. All those stats I gave you, they gave up on the last play. The dude just runs out of bounds. Like we had a chance for pitchy, pitchy, Woo Woo palooza. Scott Van Pelt was in heaven. We were excited. Like, you fight till the end, man. That dude, literally, the clock is on zero and he takes himself. I'm not going to call his name, I'm not going to try to kill him. But like, he runs straight out of bounds, you give up, you quit. Like, you never know what can happen with those things. We've seen crazy ones in the past. So not only did you get out physical at the point of attack, not only did you make mistakes and beat yourself, not only did you not do the right things, I don't think with the two point conversion by any stretch of the imagination, then you quit. So I don't have a lot of positive things to say about Iowa State. I'm sorry, I'm out with that because that was, that was not, it was not a good day to be a cyclone.
Host 2 (College Football Analyst)
So did you think when number three, the running back for, for, since. For Cincinnati. I think it was Walker's. His last name.
Host 1 (College Football Analyst)
Yes.
Host 2 (College Football Analyst)
Kid from Wisconsin. He came from Wisconsin. Right. Tyree Walker, when he absolutely just dump trucked the Iowa State db, did you think that should be targeting?
Host 1 (College Football Analyst)
Did you see my social media?
Host 2 (College Football Analyst)
I did not.
Host 1 (College Football Analyst)
Okay. Because I, I tweeted the video out immediately and I was like, this is the death. First of all, it was a bug meeting a windshield. Like, it was literally. I mean, it was, it was domination and it was absolutely running over somebody. So he could have got charged with assault regardless. But if you're gonna ask players to not lower their head and not use the crown of their helmet, you need to ask offensive players to do the same thing that you ask defensive players to do. And he clearly lowers his head and uses it as a battering ram. And I got a lot of tweets by the way back, and they were like, whatever. What do you call them now if it's X? But whatever. I got a lot of interaction back and they're like, that's soft. What are you talking about? I'm like, we're talking about player safety. You're talking to somebody also who broke their neck by lowering their hip. And so I just. I think that we've got to be smart. Offensive players get away with a lot. They get away with face masks a lot. They get away with PI a lot. But that right there is a player safety thing that, that. That is protecting that young man so he doesn't lower his head, put his spine in a bad position where he's in a neck brace, or he's worse, he's paralyzed. And so, yeah, they gotta. They gotta look at that and get that out of the game.
Host 2 (College Football Analyst)
But they are legit contenders in the Big 12 now. Agreed at least to make the championship game because they don't play Texas Tech, they don't play Arizona State. Their toughest road game is probably at Utah. So. And with the quarterback that's playing like Sworesby's playing like the bomb that he hit there to sort of put the nail in the coffin almost.
Host 1 (College Football Analyst)
Yeah.
Host 2 (College Football Analyst)
Well, should have. He's been playing well. So the Bearcats, you might need to bear down. Bearcat bull bandwagon.
Host 1 (College Football Analyst)
So bear down, baby. Nippert Stadium was rocking. They bum rushed the field. It was fantastic. All right, Kentucky, Georgia, Georgia. It was not a pretty week a week ago. It's not something that they were proud of with the Bama game, but this was an adult response. Like, this was, you know, like, I talk about putting the suit on. Like, nice response from Georgia. Continuing to do work on the offensive line. Another different combination that had to play on the offensive line because their left tackle gets hurt, left guard gets hurt. Again, like it's. It's a constant revolving door. But. But it's, you know, the difference between, you know, a team that's like, there's a. There's several teams out there like Texas, that isn't explosive. Clemson, that a team that isn't explosive. Michigan, who's not overly explosive. Like, the difference to me between those teams in Georgia. Now, Georgia has a run game, so does Michigan, but they have a consistent run game with multiple guys, and their quarterback is getting more and more comfortable doing it. And I think they've got to continue to lean on that, especially in big games. But the backs are good, the quick game to the receivers are good. We've talked about that before. They clearly looked at this game like this looked to me like I'm going to get Gunner Stockton pushing the ball down the field. That's exactly what this looked like to me. It was. It was a lot of gun. It was a lot of play action, and he was riding it and looking downfield. He makes his first mistake over the middle of the field. But, you know, this was a good professional win. Gunner went 15 to 23 for almost 200 yards. He had a touchdown. Then he had six carries. He had almost 50 yards and two touchdowns. So he looked. He looked good. The defense was. The defense. The defense was solid. But Oscar Delp, he's in a. He's still in a Georgia uniform. I saw him today. There was an Oscar Delt sighting. That was really good. He caught the football and took off. And I'm like, man, I forgot how explosive that dude is at tight end. You'd like to see more of that from. From Gunner finding those check downs. Still pushing the ball down the field. Bowens is the best running back, and he's. He's really good, man. Like, I think he's elite. Like, you watch 33 for Georgia Tote the football. You throw it out to him in the flats. You give it to him. Quick feet, super strong, always falling forward. Like, always falling forward and has held onto the football. So the other one with a three in it, Nate Frazier, had a little bit more struggle in that area. Bowens is not. And he's been. I think he's the best back for Georgia. But the Dylan Bell in the red zone was. It was a big upgrade for them. Georgia's been struggling kind of in the red zone. What are we going to do? Jet sweep to Dylan Bell. Reverse to Dylan Bell. I kind of forgot Dylan Bell plays at Georgia sometimes. Like, he's just not in the mix. But that dude is really good with the football in his hand. The tempo in the red zone still didn't work for Georgia. Again, it's not a strength right now. That's not something I really want to see that much of anymore. But, you know, I think Dylan Bell going one way, you know, a bat going the other way. Gunner Stockton having the ability to pull it. Like, now I'm gotten you. I've got you going all these different directions. If you want to run, man, like, you got to chase, you know, Dylan Bell all the way across the formation or switch, and then you can bring him back with return motion. So I think it might give him some creativity in the. In the. In the. In the red zone area, which I think they really, really need. But I thought it was a business performance, Brent. Like a put your suit on, you know, go to work, do what you need to do. Take care of Kentucky. Who's. Who's Kentucky?
Host 2 (College Football Analyst)
And I think I feel pretty confident about my preseason prediction that Kentucky's not going to win a conference game. But I have a question about the gunner thing with, with play action and I think I might almost be to the point of this sort of thought process. I don't think he's good at it. I think he needs to. He's better when he's just a straight drop back and can. And he's. His eyes are constantly on the defense because you watch him previous to this game and then watch him in this game. You can tell in practice they told him take your time with your fakes. You're. You're faking and you're working too fast and the stuff isn't developing well. What does he do when he takes his time with the fakes and does all that? He's taking his eyes off the defense and he like even to Colby Young when he hit, tried to hit one, they were backed up close the end zone takes a deep shot to the sideline to Colby Young because he took so much time on the fake. The ball is out late. DB gets involved in the play when he's kind of cooking him. So it just usually you think QBs, hey play action, more space like that's all. That's an advantage for the offense. We got to do it. But he just looks more comfortable in a straight drop back game.
Host 1 (College Football Analyst)
Yeah, but I think that's why they put him in the shotgun and they did those play action fakes like they did. I think they were trying to give him a better vision of the field. I think that was what they were trying to accomplish.
Host 2 (College Football Analyst)
I think it backfired.
Host 1 (College Football Analyst)
Yeah, there was some good plays. There was some. There was more shots down the field and they're just, it just needs to continue to be. And here's the thing, I don't need to hit them all the time, but you need to take them because. Because if you don't take them as a defense, I start to creep up and I'm going to get in your kitchen, I'm going to get in your shorts. I'm going to make things very uncomfortable. You start to hit me over the top like it's, it's not really good. Next week coming up with Auburn. Auburn nice and rested with a bye week before the Georgia game. A night game, which Georgia hasn't won a night game at Auburn since 2012. So it's been a hot minute. Auburn fresh off of a buy. Next week is another opportunity, which is a big game for Georgia against a really good run defense that maybe they can match that physicality. And you know, you need gunner to do that and that's why you did what you did today.
Host 2 (College Football Analyst)
Number 10 was the biggest sort of standout for me in this game. That's Elias Williams, the freshman tight end. He needs to play more. He's good.
Host 1 (College Football Analyst)
He's got a block better.
Host 2 (College Football Analyst)
He, he. You should have seen his first play from scrimmage. I don't double team.
Host 1 (College Football Analyst)
I don't care when you're up, double team worked up. You look like you got to block better against the dudes. So we'll see how that works out for them. If you can block better against the dudes, you get on the. This game, this game was really important. Like this game was super important for the acc. We talked about Virginia and really how would they respond from. From now a big win being talked about, being ranked for the first time, you know, in six years. I think it was. And the who's did not play their best game. But I think this is where Tony Elliott's gonna be like, this is how we're getting better boys. Like, this is why we're going to become a big team now. This is why we're going to be really good. Because they barely had over. They barely had over 200 yards of offense. Virginia today against Louisville barely over 200 in regulation and they still found a way to win this football game. Like their offense was not good. They weren't running the football good. But if you want to win an ACC championship and we want to put them back in that, if we want to put them in that category because there's so many teams in the ACC now, I think we're probably going to go FSU out. You know, who else are we going to now start to creep off that list? Louisville might be out now. Clemson, obviously we already wiped off. So the list is getting a little bit smaller in the ACC. But a 3027 win in overtime. So now you got Georgia Tech, you got Virginia, obviously you got Miami, who's the clear favorite. But to get a gritty win against Miller, Moss and Bell who are very explosive. Brown, who's very explosive. Like that's, that's all that matters, man. Overtime your defense scored 14 points. That's how good they were. Fumble on the first drive. Fumble, scoop and score. Go 60 yards. Like another play. Miller, Moss, who? I'll get to him in a second. We'll get to him in A second Virginia again off of Miller Moss, catches a pick, takes it to the house. So now, you know, they've cemented themselves as a big time contender in the. In the. In the accident. Louisville should be. But Louisville, like last week, man, there's too many bad moments, dude. Like Miller Moss is going to throw a dot and you're gonna be like, bam. That dude, that boy's a baller right there. And then he's gonna go, ooh, buy time and take a sack. And it's third and 27. And you're like, bro, what are you doing? Like, too much of that. Not good enough on the offensive line to run the football, to have a little bit of balance. Brown gets hurt today. That doesn't help. Obviously, he tried to come back in the football game, but, you know, bottom line is Virginia's a contender. Virginia's moving forward Louisville because the defense is good enough, man. They're going to keep him in all the games. The offensive firepower is there at times. The inconsistency is an absolute killer. A pick six a week ago, a pick six today, a fumble for six today. You can't do that, man. You can't keep giving up points and expect to win. Virginia took advantage, and that's why Virginia is still a contender and Louisville probably is not. So we ain't got many left, man. This ain't like last week, thank God. Like last week, we run out of oxygen. We had so many games to talk about, but, like, I think the last one that we really need to cover is A and M and A and M. That's. That's this. This team. Here's why this team, to me, is going to. It should impress you. There's a couple reasons why A and M, if you're watching, should impress you. A and M has now won in different ways. They've won by outscoring people early in the season. They've won by out special teaming people with. With great special teams. Now they're winning the last couple of weeks by defense. Their defense is starting to get cooking. Elko is one of the better defensive coaches in all of college football, always has been. He's exceptionally brilliant. The back end starting to play better. The pass rush is getting better. And I watched him tonight, and I still see some things with Marcel Reed that I still think he's a work in progress. But you know what's really hard to stop is the ground game. The last two weeks has gotten going. While the defense is getting better, they're getting more takeaways. Defensively which gives their offense more ability to ground and pound and take it away. Here's the thing that's the hardest to stop, man. You know, it's annoying. It's annoying. When they run the football, they play action. I don't get a pass rush. Marcel Reed scrambles around and it's not the first play, it's the second play. Now Craver, who runs 4 flipping 3, is running across the formation. And Casey Conception, who runs 4:3 is running across. And that secondary play, man, that Marcel Reed can now take off and Craver and Casey Concepcion can make those big plays. Like, it's just. It's a frustrating offense to stop more of Reed's run game. In the bigger games, I think you'll continue to see that. But A and M's defense stepping up. A and M's defense being real better. Watch out, bro. A and M is going to be a problem. They've never had a problem in the middle of the season. It's. It's this part of the season where they've really, really struggled. But not a lot of talk about A and M, not a lot of talk about Texas Tech, but the resources in that state, the football investment. The ROI is looking pretty solid, is looking pretty good now with those. Those folks going into the portal and making their squads a lot flipping better. So they handled a good Mississippi State team today and. And took care of business, even though they came out slow and struggled. Brent, like, all you gotta do is take care of business. And here's the thing, man. Any team out there in college football, you don't care about ugly wins anymore. Like, ugly wins. People used to be like, look at your resume. I can't believe they struggle with them. Boshi, bro, like, all we want is dubs. Like, there is too much. There's too many good teams. It's surviving Advance. It ain't got nothing to do with any more beauty contests, man.
Host 2 (College Football Analyst)
Speaking of that, I think looking ahead at Texas A M schedule, that game next week now against Florida gets. Becomes a marquee game for that week. Especially with Florida looking quite as a different team.
Host 1 (College Football Analyst)
Yep.
Host 2 (College Football Analyst)
But outside of that, I think 10 and 2 is very much in the realm of POS. Is almost. I would put 10 and 2 in pen. They got to go at LSU, at Arkansas, at LSU, at Missouri, home, South Carolina, and then at Texas. Like, you take. I think you get the next. If you get the next two and you. I think 10 and two playoff. Like, they are a definitive playoff team.
Host 1 (College Football Analyst)
I. I don't think. I don't think they're going to get worse. Like I just look at Marcel Reed continuing to get more time. Now listen, I, I, we've got to fix the hitch. Like when he hitches and when he delays, he makes mistakes and he throws picks like you, you can watch it over and over on tape, man. Like the hitch and then he throws. It's like, bro, you can't hitch and throw in the same spot like that. That doesn't work because I'm taught as a defensive player, like when you hitch when hand separates from ball, like I'm breaking so I'm moving. So you've done this now I'm moving and then you're throwing where you're looking. So he'll continue to get better with his eyes, but the balance, the defense coming along. Whoa. Reckon they, they, I mean they looking, they looking pretty solid. And the special teams is always going to be the ace in their cap too, bro, because they got some dudes that can, can take punt returns, kickoff returns and go go house it. So another good Craver was, Craver was.
Host 2 (College Football Analyst)
Probably pretty ticked that he got tripped up just before the end zone trying to get a score against this former team. Yeah.
Host 1 (College Football Analyst)
But hey, still impressed, still impressed with Mississippi State. Like that team is. That team is continuing to, to quarterback was they continued, I guess you could say maybe shaping. Shaping was like he was losing his ever loving mind, which I like because dude had a wide open touchdown that he was trying to capitalize on and he couldn't get enough time because he got hit while he was throwing. So Mississippi State like improved offense, improved defense. You've got to be so jacked up about the additions you made in the portal and the way Jeff Levy has led this team, man. They're, they're way better. So appreciate it. Dudes, man, we'll be back again this week. Plenty more to talk about next week and in week seven. But it's been a heck of a start to college football, man. Like so much action. Thank you guys for continuing to follow us, man. And to rate to subscribe and follow the audio pod, man. It's, it's continuing to come out. It'll come out to tomorrow when you need to go somewhere, whenever you need to go and listen to the road, just turn that puppy on and we'll be there to join you and so much goodness coming. And thank you guys so much for joining us.
