B
Hey, everyone. Welcome to Quick Serve, brought to you by IBM Watson x Sabalenka over Anasimova. We are going to get to that, and we are going to preview this Alcaraz center match. I got a hot take, guys.
C
Okay.
B
Super toasty take.
C
All right, give it to us.
B
These guys are gonna be good one day. They're gonna be great. So I'll tell you, I did. Woke up, did this show. So second show of the day for served. Did a little clinic. Silly, silly lineup today, guys. Silly, silly.
C
Yesterday sounded pretty damn good.
B
So, yeah, they added. They added a little sprinkling of Agassiz today in there. Yep. Agassi Connors, me, Tracy Austin, Lindsey Davenport today.
C
Was Stephie there?
B
Stephie was not there, but it was. It was sick. So we do the clinic, you know, a bunch of fun games, good energy. And then Tracy looks at me. She's like, we should get some dingles going. Like, after this. I heard about this, and I was like, I don't know. I like dingles.
C
Our friend S.B. was texting me this.
B
Yeah. So I was like, I like dingles. And I was like, all right, let's get. Let's, let's. Let's. Let's figure out a game. So Rajiv Ram, you know, number one doubles player, win all the grand slams.
C
Pretty good doubles player guy.
B
Yep. He goes, I'll play. So I'm like, oh, great. We got into a game with someone who's actually Playing. And then the fourth, we're done, and we're kind of searching around, and Andre's there. I was like, andre, you want to rip some dingles for, like, I don't know, like, 30, 40 minutes? He goes, I'm in.
C
Get the hell out of here.
B
So we have a pickup game. Me, Andre versus Tracy and Rajiv. And we just ripped it for, like, 30 minutes. It was awesome. It was the best.
C
Best point. What was the best point?
B
Oh, Rajiv smoked me. Like, Andre firmed up. Two back ends cross. It's dingles. I'm, like, looking across. He does this, like, fade away. Just rip city up the line like this. This little fadeaway thing. But, like, the ball, it was just so much fun. It was awesome. But I'm guessing that's not what everyone.
C
I feel like we gotta dial some of that in. In the off season. I know the long off season, it's.
B
Yeah. Yeah. Good. We have four days to film. I mean, our. Our off season's longer. But listen, I. And then I. I got the chance to watch this match. Anna Samova is going to win a Grand Slam. She's going to win a Grand Slam. Like, in your. Your heart breaks. I've been in that situation where, you know, you just want to. I won the first one, so I didn't have that thing. Will. Will he win one? It was like, will he ever win one again? But, you know, the pressure set is. Is rough also. Like, Sabalenka. That's some mental fortitude there, man. Like, loses Australia when she's a favorite, loses the French when she's the favorite, loses to Anna Samova when she's the favorite at Wimbledon. Number one in the world gets one more shot, right? It's like, a really weird thing. Number one in the world. Like, maybe your year is. You have to be really good for. To consider it, like, a little bit of a disappointment when you're number one. The shot that won it for her, she was taking, like, she would serve outside. Anna Samova would just firm up a return. Like, she hits it so hard. Sabalenka was able to take that forehand from the middle of the court. First ball without thinking straight to Anisimova's forehand. Like, was. Didn't lean off of it. Didn't kind of fade it. She knew going in that as soon as it came with pace, she was turning to the open court. Didn't think twice about it. The cutter serve out wide kind of had Anna Samova fishing a little bit, but it was just. It Was just fantastic. It was a great effort by Sabalenka. You could see when she won, like, we've seen her win Slams before. She took her time. You could tell that was a lot of stress relief right from the year and when it didn't go so well. And I think when you have that disappointment, it makes these moments, if you're Arena Sabalenka, better, more special. Props to Max Mirney. The Beast I played on tour with him, came on board about a month ago, kind of wanted maybe a level set with Team Sabalenka, so congrats to her whole team. It was just fantastic. Then we get to the thing where it's like, Ana Samova has to stay out there. Doesn't even get a hug from anyone she loves, you know, and people are like, well, everyone has to talk. Yeah, no, I get. I understand press conferences exist. They also exist after a certain amount of time when you've probably cried on someone or hugged someone or had a conversation to at least process a little, you know. But we go through these ceremonies and, like, Anisimova has to say something. You can see her stepping up to the mic and, like, just. The goal is, like, to get through it without breaking down. And I don't know. Do you guys like watching that?
C
Not particularly. I mean, we were on a group. We were on a group thread with some people that we went to the US Open with, and they were kind of saying the same thing. That was just, like, tough. I do like the idea of going up and receiving the trophy. There is tradition there, you know, and being present for that for a bit. But there was a painfully long time between the end of the match and going up into the player's box. And then they're just sitting there, like, waiting, and then they come up onto the stage. I. I just think that could be tightened a little bit. And then I don't know why she has to stand up there after she says her two bits, like, yeah, it's wave to the crowd. I do think it's cool when the fans appreciate her.
B
Well, I think that. I think that moment can happen. She can walk off and I actually think she gets more of a moment. Like, otherwise it. Like, I'll tell you how this goes, because I've done it. Like, it ends, like, the ceremony ends and everyone just awkwardly walks off. Like, it's just over and there's, like, music and whatever. Like, I don't know, there's, like, in our runner up. Give her a round of applause and she exits. This year, you know, we'll see her in 2026. Amanda Simo.
C
Like that and then, and then transition to the, to the winner. Yeah.
B
I mean, I don't know, like, do we need to hand her millions of dollars publicly? Like, that's a weird thing that she has, you know, just, you know, smile because, like, that's a life change. Like, obviously that's a huge deal. And also she would give up that money for the win. No questions asked. Like, no chance. Right. She's made. I don't know. It's just, it just feels like, just. I just felt so bad when she had to step up to the mic and come up.
C
It felt very, it felt very long tonight. It felt longer than usual. I know you transition like it felt longer than usual on television.
B
Yeah, it's just, it's just tough. But congrats. Listen, you can feel badly for someone and also, like, your respect grows and you know, Irina Sabalenka is just a badass. Like, she's, she's so good. She's so tough. You know, people are, oh, she lost a grand stuff. Okay. She's one. Like, you put yourself in that position and you deliver even if you miss sometimes. Like, she's so good. Number one in the world. All the success, you know, and now she's kind of marching along. I mean, we mentioned it with ego with six. Like, she's marching up on like some massive names for all time slam count. Like, she's kind of entering history. It's, it's, it's great to see props to her also, like making adjustments, losing a couple of close ones. Like I say it all the time, our biggest, you know, sometimes our biggest strengths are also our biggest weaknesses. Fresh set of eyes. I'm number one in the world currently and I bring in a fresh set of eyes. I need, I need some help. Props. Way to go. Just, just fantastic, fantastic stuff from her. I hope Anna Samova has that moment. I know a lot of tennis fans do. I think she'll get there and it'll be sweeter when she does. So hopefully she can feel a lot of pride with what she's accomplished. Losing 00 in a Wimbledon final, coming back fitter, better, you know, that could have had a long tail, you know, and I thought she was just the adult in the room. I think she was fantastic. So happy for all involved. Happy for tennis. Oh, center Alcaraz play tomorrow.
C
Oh, yeah. Oh, those guys.
B
Yeah.
C
Oh. Oh, those guys.
B
Yeah. So that's going to be pretty sweet. Both coming in with form. I've Picked Alcaraz or. Sorry, I picked center. I'll tell you something though, guys. Like I watched that, that match with FAA last night. He's going to have to serve more than 47% first serves. The serve is not in rhythm and maybe he fixes it, maybe it's, you know, Tracy Austin said she saw him going out and practicing after a match for an hour. It's not in full flow and, and he's, he's corrected because he used to be platform server, move to the one foot up and that it's been a massive improvement. Right. But I don't think Carlos can't serve a low first serve percentage like he did during Wimbledon. Same with center, right? And then it's the old battle of like I, I think it's like the algorithm versus the artist, right? It's like input, output, input, output and center is just an absolute machine and Alcaraz is going to have to figure out a way to get it out of his pocket, right? He's going to have to hit low chips, he's going to switch directions, he's going to find some height. Sometimes Alcaraz, not enough people are talking about it. He is coming in and approaching the net. So. Well, this tournament like the transition game is, is, is insane. Will he be able to do that with the ball speed of Jannik Sinner and the strength of Jannik Sinner, that's the matchup, that's the chess match, right? If he does, Sinner wants to make him do it from as deep in the court as possible, right? There are no, they're going to be no surprises. These guys know each other, they know how to play each other. They know the tendencies, they know the nervous systems. It's about execution. No one will like unless they both serve 45%, someone serves 60%, someone serves under 50. The one person under 50 ain't going to win.
C
I mean it's, it's, it's almost like you're alluding to, it's a bit of a toss up and I mean I.
B
Think the, the, I mean of course it is.
C
The IBM Watson X likelihood to win currently is at 56% in favor of Alcaraz. You know what I mean? It's basically what we saw today with the women, you know, 55, 45. So I think it's 56 in favor of Alcaraz.
B
So interesting because like, I mean obviously they have a lot of, a lot more data points than like my feelings, but they'd center in the wimble and final and a bunch of us dumbasses, you know, had. I had Algaraz. Unless there's nothing between them. And again, so your predictions, we're guessing. We're guessing. They play this match 10 times, it's gonna be 6, 4, 5, 5. Like who? Like we're guessing.
C
Yes. They're not like Alcaraz is leading nine wins to five in the head to head. And that's like over the course of how many years, right?
B
But, but it's. Listen, they're both in, they're both in flow right now. Like they're both playing well. Sinner has to serve a little bit better. He has to serve a little bit better. And Alcaraz, can he continue to get forward off the weight of shot of. He hasn't played someone who hits it as big. Even, even Novak right now doesn't hit it as big as center. Doesn't hit as big as center. So I think that's the chess match. Who knows what will happen? It's just fantastic. I mean we're, we're spoiled for choice. The, the other thing I was talking about, Tracy Austin today, which is might be interesting to you and the in the chuckers is like walking in the locker room today. It's like a ghost town, right? So you get there, you get there on day one, it's just buzzing. It's a train station. There's 200 players. You're stepping over people's laundry. Like people walking in, you're like kind of like moving, like, just like avoiding people. You walk in today, there's no one.
C
There when and when they go out today to practice, right? Because obviously the women. So they, they just finished their semifinals on Friday. They go out to practice today, it's still buzzing because there's a final going on, right? What, what's that energy like in the building?
B
It's because, because there's about to be.
C
Another final going on, right?
B
Yeah, but it's, there's like behind the scenes, there's less people, there's no teams. The players lounge is empty. Like you go to player dining and it's like seven people. Like no one's here anymore. Everyone's on to the next thing. Like, everyone's like, it's gone. The biggest matches of a tournament and all the energy in the building, which was like insane today in the building for the women's final. But then like you go to like the, the players lounge, the credentialed areas and it's like, really?
C
That's weird. So do you think that they were gone already today? By the time the bus started to like ramp up around the state.
B
Oh, I know, I know. I saw Alcaraz earlier. This, I saw it. Not early I saw him. I don't know. I finished the Clint. I mean, 11:30am like getting ready and probably go. I mean, he's not worried about how he's hitting the ball. Maybe there's a couple specific things he wants to work on for this specific matchup. But he doesn't need to hit much. Like, he doesn't, he doesn't need to. He's getting some body work done. Like, he's so relaxed, dude, he's just, he's just. I end. So like, what's he doing?
C
He's like going home, just watching the tennis match, maybe just. Oh, we were just like relaxing.
B
Oh, we were just talking just like bullshitting for I, I, I think the world of him. But I walk in the training room, no one's in there. So he has no choice. He has to talk to me like I'm, I'm the only option, you know, besides this guy. But he's just fantastic. But I mean, he would have gotten in and out of there. It feels like he had a full day in the city, you know, and these guys the night before matches, like, they want their little routine, you know, they want to eat what they eat and have, you know, their, their guy count the calories and the electrolytes and, you know, make sure that they're night by, you know, in their hyperbaric chambers by 10pm you know, right.
C
In their hyperbaric chambers. Just like, just like you guys.
B
Yeah, just the same as us. Just the same as you back in the day. Totally the same.
C
But yeah, I think when I read Andre's book, he talked about all the hyperbaric chambers.
B
Oh, yeah, totally. Yeah. Yeah. I imagine them waking up in the morning, it's just like a hyperbaric chamber. They're just like. You remember the Undertaker from wwe? He's like.
C
Just.
B
The gong hits. Yeah, yeah. For those of you listening, I just leaned back and sat up. Okay. Anyway, over explaining.
C
Anyways, just Google the Undertaker.
B
Yeah, this Google like Undertaker, Undertaker meme and then that joke's going to be funnier. It's very, very specific joke. Listen, I have to be up early as crap tomorrow because everyone has to get there early because they literally left yet they're sweeping the entire thing because the President's coming tomorrow.
C
So.
B
So I'm going to be up early and try to get in before the chaos ensues. We'll recap that on Tuesday. Anyways, this has been quick served brought to you by IBM Watson X. Didn't think we were going to get to an undertaker reference, but here we are. We'll see you.
