We really appreciate the love and support. That said, Today is March 27, 2026, and here's what we got for you. Coloring in the Grand Slam issue Forget the land, Chucky's on a boat and what to the King of Clay, a knight with no armor, an NBA owner and a rapper have in common. Plus, Charleston is loading. But first, the second leg of the Sunshine double has been soggy, salty and dramatic on and off the court. And as Miami Open tournament director James Blake reminded us on the Q and Andy this past week, every event has its unforeseen challenges, and this year's event has been no different. Rain havoc on the schedule early, forcing Arena Sabalenka to start her title defense off stadium court. She said that she was shocked by the decision, but in true Sabalenka fashion, she handled business anyways. Then there was Stefano Sitsipos, who had an absolutely brutal night against Arthur Feast. While playing, he was complaining about the lighting on stadium court, telling the umpire that he could not see the ball, and later saying that the organizers should be, quote, ashamed. Meanwhile, beyond the events control, both of Poland's number one players made major coaching changes. IGA Swiatek split, with coach Wimficet saying in a post that it was time to take a different path, and Hubie Herkac parted ways with Nicolas Massu after a seven match losing streak. Even our guy Carlos Alcaraz was not immune to the Miami Blues. He lost to Sebastian Korda in the third round and was visibly frustrated throughout the match. The L marked the second loss for the world number one in just eight days. But unlike some interneters we at serve do not think it is all loss for Carlitos. Now for the good stuff from the Near south beach event. Sabalenka tried the Golden Glizzy. Yes, that is the $100 gold leaf hot dog and her reaction was absolutely priceless. Check it out. So good guys. Now on the court, 17 year old Moussi Kwame of France made history as the youngest man to win a Masters 1000 match since the 16 year old Rafa Nadal back in 2003. Arthur Fiess pulled off one of the most dramatic comebacks of the year, saving four match points against Tommy Paul to win their quarterfinal match 677676 and Yuri Lahecka punched his ticket to the semis by beating qualifier Martin Landalouse. Fiess and Lahecka will face off in the semis today. On the women's side, Coco Gauff looked back to form despite injury concerns coming out of Indian Wells, and of course Sabalenka and Rabakina found themselves in another late tourney showdown. For details on the women's semifinal matches from Thursday and other updates from Miami, check out the newsletter. And be sure to check out our full Miami Open recap with Andy and JW on Tuesday's edition of Served. Now on to set number two. And this is a story about a social post catching the eye of the players. An account called Sportsball posted a video this week breaking down how the Grand Slam revenue share with the players currently works. For those of you that don't know, Sportsball is an account that's known for its hand drawn infographs that explain how sports work. Trust me, it's more interesting than I'm making it out the sound in the three minute video, the creator explains how the tours share over 20% of their revenue with players, but that the independently run Slams do not, despite significant revenue growth since 2020. Now it is clear that the Grand Slam prize pools have increased over time, with all four slams now each exceeding 16 million in total prize money available to players. The video also points out that the available Slam financials from 2024 reveal that the event's revenue shares range from roughly 12% to 16%. But this is where the video interesting Check out this section here.

The new proposal focuses on three areas. First, is establishing a formal Grand Slam Player Council for player input on decisions like prize money, scheduling and rules. Second is upping the prize money percentages to 16% of SLAM revenues across the board and increasing it steadily over time to reach 22% by 2030, in line with those 1000s events. Finally, is introducing contributions from each Slam to those player welfare programs like pension, injury and healthcare support, mental health resources and maternity leave, beginning at $4 million per event and increasing to roughly 12 by 2030. On paper, this all may seem like small changes, but in reality it would help players from the top of the rankings all the way to the lower end. Discussions for this proposal are currently ongoing as players and tournaments look at how the sport can continue to evolve.

Next up, a guy who doesn't seem to be in the same boat financially as the other players is current world number one Carlos Alcaraz. Not saying that he hasn't earned every damn cent of it, but Chucky has got himself a new flotation device. Yes, you heard it right. The 22 year old has partnered with Sunreef Yachts, a Polish luxury shipyard, to build a custom Sunreef Ultima 88 catamaran that is an 88T solar powered mega cat with a top speed of 26 knots, an ocean lounge at the stern, some type of platform with hydraulics, a folding side terrace and a garage. But probably not for a car cuz that would be weird. But of course you need a garage. The partnership was announced at the Palm Beach International Boat show this week. Alcaraz now joins Rafa Nadal as a House of Sunreef brand ambassador. Look, the man has seven Grand Slam titles before turning 23. If he wants a boat, he can have a boat. Speaking of Rafa continuing to make waves around the world, the King of Clay's Academy is going all in on paddle this month the Rafa NDAL Academy launched its first ever US Paddle Tour, partnering with Playtomic, a company Rafa has invested in, and Babylot on a four stop US swing. The first event already took place on March 13th through the 15th at the Racadex in Miami. Next up is Paddle 39 in Austin from April 24th through the 26th, then Padel Ultra back in Miami from May 8th to the 10th and the finals are set for Reserve New York August 14th to the 16th. The US is a prime growth opportunity for the sport and there are major signals of the impending boom, with the Miami Open hosting a paddle event during play this year and news this week of the Charlotte Hornets co owner and pretty damn good investment Rick Schnall leading a $15 million Series A round for the American PPL or the Pro Paddle League. This is a deal that, according to a Sportico article, values the ppl at 10x more than the $10 million seed round from just a year ago. Now across the pond in the UK, participation has doubled over the last two years to nearly 1 million enthusiasts, according to recent LTA figures. Those enthusiasts include Sir Andy Murray and rapper Stormzy, the LTA's own head of paddle. Tom Murray, no relation to Andy Murray, said this quote, the growth of paddle both in Britain and globally is undeniable, with participation rising at an exponential rate. The LTA's Murray went on to say that participation from high profile individuals is only going to increase interest in the sport. Well, maybe that means we will see Dababy and Andy Roddick hit a court sometime soon here in Charlotte and finally set number five. We are looking ahead to the official start of clay court season. The credit Won Charleston Open, a WTA 500 event, kicks off March 28 and runs through April 5 and the entry list is stacked. Leading the field is world number five Jess Pugula, who is looking to go back to back on the green clay of Charleston. Other big names in the field include Amanda Samova, Belinda Bencic and Madison Keys. However, one big name that will not be in the draw this year is Charleston native Emma Navarro. The world number 27 pulled out of her dad's own tournament on Thursday, citing some health struggles. In a statement released by the Charleston Opens official accounts, Emma said in part quote, I never take for granted the opportunity to play at home in front of my family friends in the Charleston community whose support is overwhelming and unconditional. Unfortunately, I have been dealing with some health struggles over the past year or so that I'm continuing to sort out. She went on to say that she is working with doctors and her team and hopes to be back on court in the coming weeks. We will keep an eye on this story and wish Emma the best of luck and that leads us to our tie break trivia. Not only is Charleston a player and fan favorite, it's one of the pioneers of the WTA. It started in 1973 and was the first women's tournament to offer a $100,000 purse. But it has not always been played in Charleston. And that brings us to our question. What was the original location of this event? We will have the answer for you in this week's five setter newsletter. And while you are there, check out the headlines that did not make the show this week, including IGA's possible next steps and inside the Miami Open battle that is possibly an early pick for Match of the Year.
