Jean King cup edition brought to us by friends at Microsoft Copilot. Mike Italy in the US in the final with advancing over Great Britain, Katie Bolter winning the first set against Jess Pula. But Pula finding a four, winning six two in the third. Cartal gave Navarro hell. Emma's won two straight. Tough, tough three setters. They saved the doubles team. Taylor Townsend getting the day off. It's going to be Italy and usa.
C
Yeah, and you called it. And I think, you know, USA comes into this winning us all time, but they haven't won a championship since 2017. They've only won one since 2000.
B
That's surprising.
C
Yeah. And Italy is the defending champ. This is their third final in three straight years, you know. So are you surprised at all by this matchup just looking at the roster?
B
No. These were the two best teams coming into the week. These are the two that shaped up well, they're, you know, the only really weakness on any of the teams is maybe the second singles position for, for Italy with Cocheretto. She's 1 and 1 this week, but she's ranked 91 in the world.
D
Right.
B
Going against the other three singles players. I don't know where Emma is. She's somewhere just outside the top 10. Jesper Ghoul is always in the top five, Paolini is always a fixture in the top 10. And Arani 1 of the best players, doubles players in the world. And if she's not the best in the world at doubles, guess who is. Taylor Townsend. Right. So these are just loaded lineups start to finish, but no surprises here. Not to say that there haven't been challenges.
D
Right.
B
Like Italy's come down to the final doubles match, which is a position they like to be in. And USA straight out of the gate having to play Kazakhstan and deal with the Rybakina of things. But no, I don't think there are any surprises. I don't think anyone looking at this Draw is shocked by the fact that the US And Italy are. Are in the final. They're the best two teams in this, in this competition.
C
What is the messaging from Team USA captain Lindsey Davenport in the locker room? You know, I mean, if they take the first one, they're feeling pretty good about not running the risk of heading to that doubles matchup against arguably the best team on the planet.
B
Yeah, I don't think, I don't think Lindsay's going to say we have to win the first two singles matches. Like, I don't know that that's how you present it. It's more. Let's just go know. She's thinking in the back of her mind. I don't want this to be a flip of the coin where Irani is involved. Right. I don't want that scenario where Italy's going. If you gave Italy right now the chance, it's like, okay, let's just take it to the doubles and play the doubles for the whole thing. They would, they would do that. That's probably where they expect to be with coachiertto kind of not being one.
A
Of the higher ranked players in this tie.
B
You know, they hope Paolini wins. Pula, you know, but if someone wins 2 0, it's most likely going to be us that does that.
D
Right.
B
They're the most likely to dominate the singles and take the doubles out of the equation, which is something they're going to want to do. I haven't talked to Lindsey week. I'm so happy for her. I'm so proud's weird because it sounds condescending, but I am proud of her. I'm proud of the Team usa, but they're up against it, man. Italy, they're not big in stature, but they're big as far as their hearts. They are just monsters in this competition. You mentioned the US has won this thing 18 times.
C
Yeah.
B
Like to make a 19 night stretching.
C
Back to Fed cup days.
B
Yeah. Trying to stay neutral. But this would mean the world of Lindsey Davenport. I know. This would mean the world of Jess Pegula, Emma Navarro. I mean, they won it last year. The Italians who care.
C
So if it does come down to this, to the doubles matchup, you know, what is the strategy for Team USA against this juggernaut?
B
Well, when you got to pick your team, you know it's going to be Taylor Townsend. I don't know how Jess's body physically. Another factor that I'm going to answer your question eventually is USA playing back to back days, having played three setters each, each of their singles lineup.
D
Right.
B
So Italy probably a little bit more rested.
A
Got another day.
B
You know, while USA was playing gb, Italy was chilling out.
D
Right.
B
So they have, they're probably a little bit more in the tank. I don't think that's going to matter here. Jess Pula is in incredible shape. You never really see her tired. Same with a.m. navarro. Taylor Townsend got the day off which was, which was advantageous. But the second singles match is. I think it's going to dictate this. I think if Emma Navarro wins, I like usa. If she somehow gets upset, it's a lot to ask to beat Paolini and Iranian doubles and then Paulinian singles. So I think it's all going to come down to that second single spot which I think Emma Navarro will win.
C
So if I was to put a, put you on the spot and pick.
B
A winner, US is going to win this thing. I said it when you got mad at me because you didn't want me previewing the Italy U.S. final. That wasn't here yet. I told you U.S. is going to win. I think the U.S. i think the U. S. Takes this title. I feel good feelings and I just feel like Emma Navarro getting through a couple of really, really rough three set matches, not only has it put him in position to win the Billie Jean King cup, which is the goal, but I think it'll set her up well for the rest of the season too. Great. This has been Quick serve Billie Jean King Cup Edition brought to you by Microsoft Copilot. Enjoy the match. I can't wait.
