Happy Holidays from everyone at Sidebar! This week, we have a gift for our listeners - the audio from the Suits Retrospective at ATX! First, Sarah and Patrick check in and discuss favorite holiday traditions (candy in clogs, anyone?). Then, we go back to June 2024 to hear Patrick and Sarah as well as Dulé Hill, Abigail Spencer, Amanda Schull, and Jeff Wachtel share memories from filming, theories about their characters, and answer audience questions. Thank you again to Netflix Tudum and ATX for this wonderful event.

This holiday season, share a new language with your loved ones. A lifetime membership to Rosetta Stone makes a meaningful present for friends and family. Patrick, did you know that my kids and my husband all can speak French? So now I'm trying to learn a little bit on Rosetta Stone.
Patrick J. Adams
When you learn French, where are you gonna go first?
Sarah Rafferty
Listen, I'm gonna go back to Paris, and the first thing I'm gonna do with my kids with my new facility in French is I'm gonna take them to all the flea markets and then I'm gonna order all the things on all the menus at all the restaurants. Perfectly.
Dulay Hill
Who would you gift a lifetime membership to?
Sarah Rafferty
I'd gift it to you. I want you to come to Paris with me.

Sarah Rafferty
Oh, my God. Thanks for the. And I'm Sarah, and this is our sidebar Christmas episode. Have I told you lately that I love you?
Dulay Hill
Okay, let's start. 3, 2, 3, 2, 1. Hi, I'm Patrick.
Sarah Rafferty
And I'm Sarah.
Dulay Hill
And this is is sidebar, our Suits Watch podcast.
Sarah Rafferty
And normally I would be telling you which episode of Suits we're going to be discussing or which guest we're going to be interviewing. But today we're going to do something a little different.
Dulay Hill
That's right. Today we have something very special for you all. We have, I guess it's like a.
Patrick J. Adams
Christmas gift of sorts or a holiday gift.
Sarah Rafferty
I love that framing.
Dulay Hill
Yes, Holiday gift to celebrate your holidays with. Because tomorrow is Christmas. Tomorrow's Christmas, and we wanted to give you something special. Why don't you tell them what it is?
Sarah Rafferty
So this week we are Releasing the audio from the panel we did at the Austin Television Festival this past summer.
Dulay Hill
Well, let's talk about the Austin Festival for a second. ATX Listener is an incredible television festival run out of Austin. It. It's a place that actually means a lot to suits because we were invited early on, thanks to you. One of the earlier ones. And then we kept getting invited back, and they've just been so good to us over the years. So they asked if we would come be a part of this year's festival and. And then hopefully we'll be doing something special there next year as well. So. It's a great festival, great people. They're such huge of television. They're so passionate about getting these shows.
Patrick J. Adams
Out there and servicing the fans.
Dulay Hill
So thank you for having us. But before we get into that.
Sarah Rafferty
How are you?
Patrick J. Adams
How are you?
Sarah Rafferty
I know. I saw you. I saw.
Dulay Hill
Did you hear my phone? Did you hear my phone? Hold on. I gotta go on do not Disturb here.
Sarah Rafferty
Do you want me to show you.
Dulay Hill
How to do rookie mistake?
Sarah Rafferty
Explain that to you?
Patrick J. Adams
Are you on do not Disturb?
Sarah Rafferty
Did you not. Alex, did you not hear me when I walked in the room? Go. Look at me turning my do not Disturb on without any help.
Dulay Hill
What?
Sarah Rafferty
I said it to tell me. See, she did it. I did it. I did it. Which is kind of funny because now that we have Alex here, recently you talked about, you know, that I. That I have. That I give good mic. Nope, that's not what I meant. She does recently.
Dulay Hill
He's still. Alex is still on me about my.
Sarah Rafferty
Mic form atx, and I think we were able to edit much of it out. But do you remember how much trouble I was having with my mic? And look how far I've come at atx. My mic kept going out and I couldn't do it. And I even started using it upside down or putting it to my ear. Do you remember?
Patrick J. Adams
I do remember this.
Sarah Rafferty
I just was like, I could not. I started just shouting out to the crowd without the use of my mic. Cause it didn't work.
Dulay Hill
You're good in front of a crowd. Can I say that before we dive into this recording, like, you were on your game. Like, you. You're very good live. Some people don't do live, but you do live. All that theater training. You were really funny. I just remember, like, by this point, we had been recording some podcasts and we were still in our, like, stage of figuring it out, and we were both feeling pretty insecure and we try things over again and you know, you know, we're still figuring it out. But then we got in front of people and it was like you had like all that went away. Any insecurity of it went away. You were just like so great in front of the crowd. I was just like, yeah, Hell, yeah.
Sarah Rafferty
Oh, my God.
Dulay Hill
Killing it.
Patrick J. Adams
You were. They loved you there.
Sarah Rafferty
Oh, my gosh. Oh, my gosh. Well, they loved you. And you told the funniest his stories. I'm really excited for the listeners to hear this. If you haven't heard it yet, Patrick tells some good stories about being on an airplane. One of my favorite parts of that podcast. But just to go full circle, I could not use my mic at atx. So we fixed it. We fixed it. Here we are. Do I sound.
Dulay Hill
Your mic works.
Sarah Rafferty
Are we good? So what do you. Do you have some special holiday plans, Patrick?
Dulay Hill
I'm just being interviewed with the family. I have been gone, as you know, as the listener may know.
Patrick J. Adams
I've been on the road gratefully.
Dulay Hill
It's been such a busy year, but I've been living out a suitcase essentially since February. I've been in five, six cities since February. So I am so excited to put.
Patrick J. Adams
On some Christmas pajamas and watch some Christmas movies and hang out with my family.
Dulay Hill
Which we doing? Oh, God, I don't know.
Sarah Rafferty
What are your Christmas favorites?
Dulay Hill
Well, I'm going to hit. We know we're lucky enough to get.
Patrick J. Adams
These screeners being part of this industry.
Dulay Hill
So I'm just going to catch up.
Patrick J. Adams
On all the years films.
Sarah Rafferty
Oh, okay. Okay.
Dulay Hill
You know the films.
Sarah Rafferty
Are we going to get a wicked screener?
Dulay Hill
I haven't gotten one of those yet.
Sarah Rafferty
That are we going to get?
Dulay Hill
I don't know.
Patrick J. Adams
Have you already seen it?
Sarah Rafferty
I did. I went the night before Thanksgiving. Can I grab my family while we talk about it? Yeah, yeah, yeah. It was so fun. I went with my whole family. Yes.
Dulay Hill
So beautiful.
Sarah Rafferty
Thank you.
Dulay Hill
I haven't seen it yet. I haven't seen Gladiator yet. I haven't seen. I haven't seen anything. Nora. I watched a Nora.
Sarah Rafferty
You think I'm excited about Gladiator?
Dulay Hill
Well, I guess you're not going to be in Gladiator 3. Guess we.
Sarah Rafferty
Connie Nielsen's the only woman in that movie, right?
Dulay Hill
I don't know.
Patrick J. Adams
I haven't seen it.
Sarah Rafferty
Okay.
Dulay Hill
I don't know. Anyway, I'm going to spend it with the family. We bought our tree last night.
Sarah Rafferty
Our tree's up, too.
Dulay Hill
Yeah. It was just so nice to go get the tree.
Sarah Rafferty
Good feeling. It smells so good.
Patrick J. Adams
Threw some garland up.
Dulay Hill
We Got the lights going, the girls.
Patrick J. Adams
Were in Christmas hats.
Sarah Rafferty
It was, it was a happy night over Thanksgiving break. I, it was very, very, very busy time. And we went last minute, the end of the Thanksgiving holiday, to the tree place that we always go to. And the guy was, like, honest with me, and he was like, I think you should come back on Thursday. And I looked at him and I said, but it's going to be my birthday on Friday.
Dulay Hill
I missed your birthday?
Sarah Rafferty
Wait, I'm telling a story. What's happening to Patrick?
Dulay Hill
I'm sad I missed your birthday. That's a bad friend.
Sarah Rafferty
No, no. This has been a year. Like, the last thing you need is to be like, oh, my God, this one hurts. I, this is, this is really just a story about the tree.
Dulay Hill
No, I know that's not why you were telling it, but I'm sorry. I, I, I feel terrible. Anyway, please tell me about the tree.
Sarah Rafferty
I know you're going to make it up to me.
Dulay Hill
I am. I'm going to have to try. But it's just, It's. That's not good.
Patrick J. Adams
That's bad. A bad form.
Dulay Hill
I want to celebrate you.
Sarah Rafferty
You celebrate me every day. That's why. You don't need to do that every day. Here's the truth. You treat me like it's my birthday every day that I see you. So touch again.
Dulay Hill
Just the tip, okay?
Sarah Rafferty
Just the tip. Just the tip. Just the tips. Those were our fingers.
Dulay Hill
Just, Just so you guys know, only turned 24 once. It should have been celebrated.
Sarah Rafferty
I know. So the guy at the Christmas tree place was like, oh, hang on. And he went and, like, opened up the trees and this and that, and he found me my, like, dream Christmas tree. Every year I put so much.
Dulay Hill
What height are we talking about? How tall?
Sarah Rafferty
It was like eight and a half. Yours. Oh, yours is really big because you got that room.
Dulay Hill
It's too big.
Sarah Rafferty
Oh, yeah. It's too big for that room.
Dulay Hill
It's 12ft tall and it's a little. Last night I was commenting, I think we. I think we. I think we overestimated our capacity.
Sarah Rafferty
Is it girth or length? Height that is your problem?
Dulay Hill
It's actually height. We kept the girth to a minimum.
Sarah Rafferty
Oh, but I. Do you have enough ornaments?
Dulay Hill
Yes, we have a. We ornamented it.
Patrick J. Adams
It is dressed.
Dulay Hill
I wish I had a photo. I don't have a photo. Kiki, do you have a photo? She was there. She helped us ornament it.
Sarah Rafferty
So the whole thing is that the act of decorating the Christmas tree. I have a Lot of my parents ornaments. I have an ornament from every place I've ever been, from every kind of time in my life. So it's really interesting, as my mom always likes to say, my birthday's on St. Nicholas Day, December 6th. The day that in, like, Scandinavia, they put out their clogs and it gets filled with candy. And I don't know this, like, you.
Dulay Hill
Thought you could just lay down a fill my clogs with candy comment and not explain further. Like, that's just the thing. We all know about clog filling with candy. Did you notice that you said it like, it was just.
Sarah Rafferty
I'm sorry, I. I don't know.
Dulay Hill
I don't know anything about filling clogs with candies.
Sarah Rafferty
Oh, really? Okay. He's looking around the entire.
Dulay Hill
Clog filling with candies. Clog filling with candies. You know about filling clogs with candies, Kimmy. I think she's doing that to make you feel better, but we'll get to the bottom of it.
Sarah Rafferty
I think.
Dulay Hill
It's not that you should feel bad. I just want clarity. I want to know what it is.
Sarah Rafferty
Okay, so I think in Scandinavia, there's a tradition that on St. Nicholas Day, which is December 6, St. Nicholas was like the prototype for the Santa Claus.
Dulay Hill
Yeah.
Sarah Rafferty
Saint Nick kids would put out their shoes and then they would get, like, oranges or, you know, special things in them.
Dulay Hill
Yeah. Cole, was that a thing too? Like, if you were.
Sarah Rafferty
I wish I had done a little bit of research on this before I came in today. We should have done it. Anyway, moving along.
Dulay Hill
But we digress.
Sarah Rafferty
Yeah.
Dulay Hill
Let's talk a bit about. About what people are gonna hear.
Sarah Rafferty
Yeah. This was such a great day because we got to reunite with Dulay Hill, who plays Alex Williams. Abigail Spencer, who you know as Scotty. Amanda Scholl, who play Katrina Bennett, and Jeff Wachtel, who was the president of USA when Suits was airing. And just to be on stage with the warmest crowd possible, it was just like a party and really lifted spirits. It was really a wonderful day.
Dulay Hill
Yeah. As you're gonna hear, it was a great vibe. We had a really good group of people there. Everybody was so excited.
Sarah Rafferty
We got to announce the title of our podcast.
Dulay Hill
We announced this.
Sarah Rafferty
Bonnie Zane was there.
Dulay Hill
She was front row.
Patrick J. Adams
We got to talk to her for a minute.
Sarah Rafferty
I loved that. We got to talk a little bit about Donna's super secret boyfriends. You can imagine that I did a lot of imaginative work about all of Donna's boyfriends. I can't imagine because they didn't show up on screen. They didn't show up on screen. So I was like, well, I don't know when I'm gonna actually get a boyfriend, but cast as a human being on the show. But I would always have really fun conversations with Aaron. Like, you know, so this boyfriend's Mark Ruffalo. This boyfriend's Idris Elba. This boyfriend's like.
Dulay Hill
You did get a boyfriend eventually.
Sarah Rafferty
I did.
Dulay Hill
Right. If memory serves, you also had another boyfriend.
Sarah Rafferty
Yes. Jay Harrington was a very dreamy boyfriend for.
Dulay Hill
That guy's good on the eyeballs. I talked about leaving the show in season seven, which obviously we've talked about in the pod, but we talked a bit about that.
Sarah Rafferty
And you talked so beautifully about what it meant to you to come back.
Dulay Hill
Yep, we talked about that. That was really a nice moment.
Sarah Rafferty
Listeners. Aaron might happen to talk a little bit about the. What?
Dulay Hill
Oh, that can opener.
Patrick J. Adams
We may.
Dulay Hill
We cannot escape it, nor do we want to.
Sarah Rafferty
We never, never will escape it.
Dulay Hill
Yes, he did. He did speak to it.
Sarah Rafferty
He might even reveal, who knows a lot about it. Might know a lot about it.
Dulay Hill
Anyway, we are so excited to share.
Patrick J. Adams
This with you again.
Dulay Hill
This. This was our panel in June this year, 2024 at ATX, and it was a part of Netflix's Tudum. They were partnering with ATX this year. So anyway, here's the chat. Enjoy it, and we'll talk to you after.
Abigail Spencer
Hey, y'all.
Jeff Wachtel
How's it going?
Abigail Spencer
We would like to invite our moderator out here, Ari from Tudum.
Dulay Hill
Hi. Hi. Thank you so much.
Sarah Rafferty
That's for you.
Abigail Spencer
I have just one question for you guys, and please be honest with me. Okay. Are y'all ready to get lit up? I am Ari Romero of Tudum.com, the website to fuel your fandom for all Netflix titles. And one of the best Netflix titles in my opinion.
Sarah Rafferty
Suits.
Abigail Spencer
Let's celebrate, and let's bring out our superstars. First up, we have Patrick J. Adams. Hi. Sarah Rafferty. Doulay Hill. Amanda Schul. Abigail Spencer. And last but not least, Jeff Wachel. Come on down.
Dulay Hill
Do it standing.
Abigail Spencer
Yeah, we're standing the whole time. Or you could tap. You could tap dance. Or stand.
Dulay Hill
We just say because we're the last event. A huge thank you to Caitlin and Emily and Jennifer and the amazing team that put this festival together. So many volunteers, so many people are involved. We love it here, and it's just such an amazing place. So thank you all for coming, but really big thank you to them for organizing this event.
Abigail Spencer
And thank you guys for being here. I'm going to ask you all a bunch of questions, and I want you to treat this like the Pearson, Hardman, Litt, Spector, Ross, Williams, Bennett, Wheeler break room. Imagine we have fig bars. Okay.
Dulay Hill
Ross never got on the room.
Abigail Spencer
And what's going on? What's energizing you guys? Is there anything you want to tell me about?
Aaron Korsh
That's a big one.
Dulay Hill
Oh, yeah. That's like a prompt.
Abigail Spencer
Yeah.
Dulay Hill
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Abigail Spencer
That's your moment.
Dulay Hill
Yeah. It's official. Sarah and I are working on the official. We. We're not calling it a re Watch podcast. We're calling it a Watch podcast because we've never actually watched this television show, and we are watching it for the first time together, and we are recording a podcast that's sort of documenting that journey, and it's going to be coming out to you really soon. So that's it.
Sarah Rafferty
And we want. And we want to hear from you guys. We're excited to hear your questions, hear what you want to hear about, talk to you.
Dulay Hill
Yep. It's going to be a big part of it. And we have a title. Do you want to tell them what it's called?
Sarah Rafferty
Our title is Sidebar.
Dulay Hill
Yeah. You have no idea how long it took to come up with that. So.
Sarah Rafferty
But you know that moment in a conversation when you're going down one particular path and then somebody says something really juicy and you're like, oh, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. That. Let's tuck over to the side and talk about that. Let's side the sidebar.
Abigail Spencer
Hey, there's also a lot of problem.
Sarah Rafferty
That is not how you use it legally.
Dulay Hill
But nothing about our show is how you did things legally.
Sarah Rafferty
I threw that up. And he.
Dulay Hill
And that's the kind of thing you can expect from this podcast, guys.
Sarah Rafferty
We'll be here all next week. Few years.
Dulay Hill
Anyway, we'll tell you more about that. But we're super excited. And. And it'll be coming to you soon.
Sarah Rafferty
And we're excited for you guys to join us.
Gina Torres
Excited.
Amanda Schull
Look forward to it.
Sarah Rafferty
Yes, please.
Amanda Schull
When we get to, like, season one and two, I have so much to offer. My experience there.
Abigail Spencer
What can we expect to see the rest of.
Jeff Wachtel
We're having a sidebar.
Sarah Rafferty
Guys.
Abigail Spencer
Sidebar. Can we expect to see the rest of our friends down there maybe on the podcast?
Dulay Hill
Oh, my God. We will have everybody. Where everybody's gonna be invited to come. Right now. We're still figuring out how to talk in front of microphones.
Abigail Spencer
So for all the newbies how is it to get all of these new fans in the suits? Renaissance of the last, I'd say three years, four years.
Dulay Hill
I'll go first. It's been absolutely amazing. Look, when you're doing the show the first time, you're so grateful and amazed that so many people are watching it, but you're also shooting the show still. So there's like this split. You're like, oh, thank you for watching the show, but I still have to go and do it. And there's something about having to split that. That makes you not able to, like, fully immerse yourself in the gratitude of the thing. And now that we haven't shot the show, I haven't shot it for six, seven years, you guys. It a little bit less than that, but we haven't shot it in a while. To have this same level of enthusiasm and excitement come from people who are discovering the show for the first time or watching it for the fifth or sixth time, it's just like. It's just pure gratitude now. It's like I can just be completely amazed that this thing stands the test of time.
Sarah Rafferty
And it's so nice that it all happened, you know, with the pandemic and with the world starting to feel really intensely fractured. It's really nice when you hear from people who talk about how it connects them to the group of people they were watching it or, you know, to their family. This thing.
Abigail Spencer
No, put thing on.
Sarah Rafferty
Hello.
Gina Torres
Get the hook.
Jeff Wachtel
She got the hook.
Amanda Schull
You know, I'll say, for me, joining the cast in season seven was the gift already. It was already a hit show. I loved the show. I was a fan of everybody who was already on the show, and I just knew I was going to be a part of the show, bringing it kind of into the station. But then for this resurgence to happen a few years later on Netflix, it's like this gift that keeps on giving. I thought being a part of the cast for the season seven, eight, and nine was the gift. I never expected this resurgence to be a part of it. And really, it's been a joy for me to be on this ride with everybody.
Gina Torres
Are we going down the line?
Abigail Spencer
I could ask you, what's your favorite meme? Do you have a meme of yourself?
Gina Torres
You use a meme of myself.
Abigail Spencer
Could be happening.
Gina Torres
That sounds.
Dulay Hill
Is there a Katrina meme?
Abigail Spencer
There should be.
Gina Torres
Is there a Katrina meme?
Abigail Spencer
I'll start.
Dulay Hill
You know what?
Sarah Rafferty
I'm gonna use this end. No, I'm good. I'm good.
Dulay Hill
Podcast is going great.
Abigail Spencer
Stay tuned for More down there. Any favorite suits memes?
Aaron Korsh
No, I don't think so, but I'll answer that first question, which is of the resurgence. This is the famous crew. I was just a network guy, but I've got to say, it's so amazing to be sitting in front of so many people who are making TV and or love television. So your support. Thank you. And just to be feeling that emotion is so great, I can say in this room, because a lot of people are going, well, you know, where to come from and how come people have come back to the show and made it in the cultural conversation again. And everybody in this room who loves TV knows it's hard to make tv, and it's really hard to make good tv, let alone great tv. On some level. When people say, am I surprised? I'm thinking, like, what took you all so long? Right? I mean, we knew how great this show was, and it was very successful at USA Network. Didn't enter maybe the cultural conversation the way that we thought it deserved to. And now that it's kind of come back for a host of reasons, but mostly due to its quality and the fact that it's a show about people, you know, that's what we do, right? We fall in love with characters, and maybe we fall in love with characters over time. I think that's one of the secret parts of the success. It's great binging shows, and there's unbelievable shows that you can catch six episodes and go, oh, my God, that was great. There's just something to a show that you get to experience over time. And I think that was one of the things that people kind of found again.
Sarah Rafferty
Jeff, do you think we're gonna get back to that in any way in the business? Like, from your perspective?
Aaron Korsh
It feels like it's swinging that way just. Just a little bit. It's wonderful when a new thing pops and you go, oh, my gosh, I gotta watch that cool miniseries with Nicole Kidman. How many miniseries can Nicole Kidman do, though?
Abigail Spencer
Might be a lot. Apparently seven. More.
Amanda Schull
It all depends on whether Nicole wants to hire me or not. And I would say, do some more, please.
Abigail Spencer
She can't stop until she hires Dulay.
Aaron Korsh
But yes, it does feel like people are thinking. One of the strengths. As someone who's spent my life working in television, one of the strengths I really think that TV offers that no other medium does is falling in love with something over time, is experiencing the growth of the characters over time. And it's great to binge, and it's great. Everything Everywhere, all at once. I want it. It's also nice to kind of settle into a world and the people that you love revisiting, and it'll be nice to see some of that coming back. I think.
Abigail Spencer
We'Re talking about the past, so let's go all the way to the past. What were auditions like? Think back to 2011. What was your life before Suits?
Jeff Wachtel
Should I start?
Abigail Spencer
Yes, please.
Jeff Wachtel
Gather up, everyone. I was only supposed to be in one episode, and then they just couldn't get rid of me. I got a call from an incredible woman named Bonnie Zane, who's sitting here in the.
Abigail Spencer
Hi, Bonnie.
Amanda Schull
Hey, Bonnie Zane.
Jeff Wachtel
Stand up, Bonnie Zane.
Gina Torres
Bonnie casts Suit.
Abigail Spencer
Yeah.
Jeff Wachtel
Bonnie Zane is the casting director of Suit.
Dulay Hill
Yay.
Jeff Wachtel
I mean, it's called the guardian angels of the actors in our industry. And also, I just want to say for all the single mothers in the house, as am I, Bonnie Zane makes me very emotional. Made that happen. I'm a single mom, and I couldn't have gone to Toronto and done this part over and over again if it wasn't for her. So thank you very much. The industry is not built for single mothers, and it doesn't get said enough. So she made that happen. And I got to go and play and I got to meet Sarah and Patrick and watch them work. And I was like, oh, my God. Like, and I. But I felt. I mean, I told Gabriel, I was like, get ready. Like this could really happen. But to the degree that it has happened and keeps going and keeps going to what you're saying, Jeff, is I think that what streaming is doing now, and I know this was a story about casting. I'm talking global, is that art lives on and there's a lot of different mediums, and if you make something really special, that there's a possibility that it could catch on.
Sarah Rafferty
And.
Jeff Wachtel
And so I'm very grateful for the streaming process, but really that was it. Bonnie Zane is the reason I'm here. And Aaron Korsh.
Abigail Spencer
Amanda. Oh, we had a great little chat in the pre green room.
Dulay Hill
We did.
Abigail Spencer
Tell me about your casting process.
Gina Torres
Hi, Bonnie.
Abigail Spencer
Hi, Bonnie.
Jeff Wachtel
Do you have her tape?
Gina Torres
She probably.
Dulay Hill
Yes, she has all our tapes. She's not afraid to use them.
Gina Torres
Well, she probably has a few tapes because I went in for originally for the role of Rachel Zane, and I actually, I won't forget this because I was really excited. I really liked the writing of it. And the audition was Rachel Zane just banging out a monologue showing Mike where things were. And this is this and that's that. And duh, duh, duh. And I was so nervous, I could. I could actually see my heart beating in my dress. I had pit stains.
Sarah Rafferty
And you have to throw those dresses out. Like, those ones when you're, like, testing.
Abigail Spencer
For something or whatever.
Gina Torres
Spritz vodka.
Sarah Rafferty
Yeah, I've tried that, girl.
Jeff Wachtel
Take out anything you can.
Gina Torres
Spritz yourself with vodka, and then you don't smell it.
Abigail Spencer
Spritz your insides with vodka, your outsides, whatever you need a little one.
Sarah Rafferty
And then.
Gina Torres
But I didn't do a great job. And Bonnie called me back in, and the note was, she can do better. And that's just to think that a casting director could have enough faith to bring you back because they know that you're more than the pit stains you were that day is. I mean, that's so much more support than we sometimes feel we're given. I didn't get the job, but then I actually went in for every single female guest star there was. That's not an exaggeration, Dulay. I went in for every single female guest star the whole first season and then half of the second season. And then I got a call that they had written a role with me in mind, and I still had to audition for it and.
Amanda Schull
Welcome to show business, everybody.
Jeff Wachtel
Yeah, it's. It's hard out there, guys.
Dulay Hill
This is rough.
Gina Torres
But finally I. I found my Katrina. They found me. And.
Abigail Spencer
Yeah. Sarah, Patrick, what was it like?
Dulay Hill
Oh, sorry. Like, delayed. Do, like. But every question.
Abigail Spencer
You remember season one?
Amanda Schull
No. For me, I had season seven. I had done a show called Doubt for cbs, which did not survive. It was a wonderful show that was written by Tony Phelan and Joan Raider. And when it got canceled, then Aaron Korsh, if I'm not mistaken, Bondi, you might know better, but reached out to, I believe, Stephen O'Neill. And then Stephen reached out to my reps to see if I'd be interested in coming and joining the cast of Suits. And of course, I already knew the cast of Suits because being on part of the USA Family, and I thought it would be great to finally be able to play a role where I could step into really being a man. Really. I loved the previous characters I had played, but they were more young men, if anything.
Abigail Spencer
Father, husband.
Amanda Schull
Yeah. And then so I jumped at it, and I came and I was going to be a part of season seven. That's the only thing that we'd committed to. And then after season seven, there was the request to be a part of it till the end of the run. And I Jumped at it.
Abigail Spencer
You got your name.
Gina Torres
I'm lucky to have had it.
Amanda Schull
Got my name on the ball. You see what I'm saying? Good things do happen when you come. When you come late. You know what I'm saying?
Abigail Spencer
That is how I live my life.
Aaron Korsh
Anybody see dul's other show that was on USA Network called Psych?
Abigail Spencer
Anybody? Anybody? How did you two find your chemistry way back when?
Dulay Hill
Gabriel and I. Or are you seeing us? Do you and I. Oh, you and I. Yeah.
Aaron Korsh
Check out the kicks, everybody.
Dulay Hill
We had chemistry from day one. Are you asking us to. Well, because we didn't have a lot of stuff together at first, but, I.
Sarah Rafferty
Mean, no, we had this. I thought. I think the moment might have been that scene in the pilot where Harvey's signing something, a document that I'm holding, and he's making fun of your skinny tie, and you've gotta go, the three.
Dulay Hill
Of us, in one shot. And we're just.
Sarah Rafferty
It wasn't. Donna was not supposed to be in that scene. And I remember on the day that Kevin Bray was like, no, you're gonna be. We're gonna put you in this scene. And then. And Gabriel and I had a quick sidebar. Woo hoo.
Abigail Spencer
Drink if you hear sidebar.
Dulay Hill
We do that every time too.
Sarah Rafferty
And he was like. I was like, what if you don't carry anything? Like, you don't have a pen, you don't have your business cards. You just like, I'm just always have the thing that you need. Because I wanted to make Donna indispensable because she was not a series regular in the pilot.
Abigail Spencer
Oh, I didn't know that.
Sarah Rafferty
Yes. Isn't that outrage?
Abigail Spencer
Outrageous. Breaking news.
Amanda Schull
I didn't know that.
Sarah Rafferty
I mean, can I hear that one more time?
Dulay Hill
Like, boo. Boo.
Gina Torres
No, no, no, no, not boo. Because that's a testament to your performance.
Abigail Spencer
One Jesus star.
Dulay Hill
Yeah, man. It's all you made.
Sarah Rafferty
That's where I was going. That was. I was like.
Gina Torres
No, that's cool. Because can you imagine suits without Donna?
Abigail Spencer
No, Never that guy. I heard you. You're right.
Sarah Rafferty
That's my dad.
Abigail Spencer
Oh, thank you for being here.
Sarah Rafferty
Hello.
Jeff Wachtel
Can I say something to that? Because I feel a little bit more of a witness to that. I mean, the cast on this show cared about everything, and that was why it was such a joy to come and play and to join along and to support and really, I mean, I did. I felt like my job. When you're a guest coming into someone else's home is like, I'm here to serve and I'm here to play and hopefully make everyone like, you know, have fun and be a part of the team. And that was like, had such a profound effect on me to see everyone caring. And nine seasons in, when I got to come back, still just caring about every moment. And I think, you know, we can't metric this, but I feel like all of those moments that each of you cared about, that's what you're feeling. Like part of that resurgence is the work that you put into every moment across the board too. Writers, directors, everyone cared tremendously. And you are feeling it now. It's wonderful.
Dulay Hill
Amen.
Aaron Korsh
It's so fun to hear Sarah talk about it because, you know, when you watch a show, it kind of looks fully baked and it's like, yeah, well, that obviously that's what it was going to be, but when it's coming together, you never know. We thought Gabriel was the perfect guy for it, honestly. And Gabriel was, you know, star and didn't really want to read and he didn't. And. But he had to. But he didn't. So it was a kind of crazy thing where he. I'm not really reading, but if there's a camera going while I'm actually reading the script to somebody else, then maybe, okay, fine. And he gave the worst audition pretty much in history. And we knew it was like, God.
Dulay Hill
Bless you, Jeff Wachtel.
Aaron Korsh
You just don't want to do it. You know what? We get it, but you're great. And we don't do it. Then we're reading and then this guy Patrick walks in and it's like, where have you been my whole life? I mean, how can you be that talented, that good looking and that charming and wonderful? And then he works with. I'm married very happily, folks, just so you know. But it was just, it was kind of magical. And then, as Sarah said, Gabriel called and said, look, there's this unbelievable actress that I know and I know we're casting Donna. She's not a regular, but it's the person who's going to be my assistant. I would love you to read her. And Bonnie said, you gotta see her. She's phenomenal. And then anyone who's seen the pilot speaking, can you imagine suits without Donna?
Sarah Rafferty
Can.
Aaron Korsh
Can you imagine her without the look? You know, the scene which I'm talking about, she's in between the two guys, they're talking and she just is looking from one to the other and you just feel the glue. You feel like, I just want to hang out with these people. So it's just wonderful how things can come together in unexpected ways.

Abigail Spencer
And if tech is working, I think we have a clip to play.
Dulay Hill
Oh, wow.
Abigail Spencer
Talking. If it's all coming together, maybe we can't react.
Sarah Rafferty
Don't let me have anything to do.
Abigail Spencer
With it because not or me. If. Ooh, it's happening.
Jeff Wachtel
Excuse me, Mr. Sorkin, you are five minutes late.
Sarah Rafferty
Is there a reason why I should let you in?
Patrick J. Adams
I'm just trying to ditch the cops, okay?
Dulay Hill
I don't really care if you let me in or not.
Abigail Spencer
Was that Wayne, Was that improv or was that in the script? Because it's good.
Gina Torres
Improv. Improv, Improv.
Abigail Spencer
All you. All you.
Sarah Rafferty
I think it was improv. Yeah. Yeah. But I chose the signal dude.
Jeff Wachtel
Who's the historian in the back?
Aaron Korsh
He's right.
Jeff Wachtel
Historian.
Dulay Hill
He's working for Aaron Korsh, whoever that guy is. It was in the script.
Abigail Spencer
Script supervisor.
Sarah Rafferty
There was a lot. A lot of the little tiny Donna moments were created with Kevin Bray and the other actor, whether it was you or Gabriel, like right there in the moment because she just wasn't really written yet. So that was fun that they were all conspiring to create something out of it.
Abigail Spencer
The people of suits conspiring. That can't be possible. Patrick, what's it like looking back up at that now? Also, we worked so close to. To the screen. It was like we were.
Dulay Hill
It was pretty weird because it was.
Sarah Rafferty
You were so big.
Dulay Hill
What is happening? It reminds me I'm just going to put myself back in the place and I think I'm still like this as an actor. But I was such a nervous little ball of like every. I was just. I was obsessive about every moment and everything. Like, I didn't want to walk away from that pilot feeling like I'd left anything on the field. And I was just determined to, like, make the most of every moment. And it just reminded me of being in that headspace that whole time, which was. Sometimes that's welcomed and people are excited to have that person on set. And sometimes it's like, could you just do what you're told and kind of chill out a bit? And luckily, this was a set where it was welcomed and it was like, throw out the best ideas. And Aaron was a great collaborator, and Kevin was a great collaborator. And like you were saying, it was just, how can we make the most of this and this and this and this and this? And there's something about that energy of me. And people always ask about the chemistry. You know, Gabriel and I didn't chemistry read for this. We were cast into the. Again, a testament to this woman over here, Bonnie, you like, we never sat in a room together in red lines together.
Abigail Spencer
That's amazing.
Dulay Hill
They put us together. The first time I met Gabriel is after we had both been cast and we went out to lunch, and we were like, hi, how are you? Like, we're gonna do this thing.
Sarah Rafferty
Who paid.
Abigail Spencer
Where? What lunch? What. What's worthy of Mike Ross and the great.
Dulay Hill
It was not an exciting lunch. It was just two guys, like, praying the other one wasn't a complete dick. Please, please let him be cool. Please let him be cool. But he was coming with his life experience. You know, he'd been on a. He'd done a. He'd done a ton of work, and he was a movie star in a lot of ways. He'd done a lot of huge films. And I was. We were coming at it from very much the Harvey Mike perspective. I was coming in, going like, I need to fight for every moment because I don't know that I'm going to be able to do this for a living. Like, if this thing doesn't work out, I don't know if I have anything. It was just sort of desperate hunger. Whereas for Gabriel, like, he was like, I guess I'll do this.
Abigail Spencer
We'll see the greatest clothes.
Dulay Hill
I don't know. You got to come in with that energy. And it was just about like. Like, that was what was attractive about it. Like, oh, he kind of doesn't need it or want it, but he'll do it, I guess. And me, I'm like, I'll do anything. Put me anywhere. What do you need? I'll do it twice. I don't know. That's Just what it makes me think to watch that.
Jeff Wachtel
Well, I have a question. Was it called Suits by the time you guys went out to lunch?
Dulay Hill
No, it was not called Suits until we came back to shoot. Until we've gotten picked up and started shooting Episode two.
Jeff Wachtel
Jeff, what was the.
Aaron Korsh
How did that Transition Legal Mind? Like, if we had to vote, would anybody think That's a great title?
Dulay Hill
I.
Aaron Korsh
So we knew that that was a placeholder. That's right.
Amanda Schull
Was that out already?
Sarah Rafferty
Yes.
Amanda Schull
Fairly Legal.
Aaron Korsh
And we did a series called Fairly Legal after that.
Dulay Hill
But I had a good name, but no one wanted to hear it.
Abigail Spencer
Was it sidebar?
Dulay Hill
Ross. Ross Examined. Wait for it. Wait for it.
Amanda Schull
No, no.
Dulay Hill
There we go. Got a fan right there.
Abigail Spencer
Thank you. Over nine years. Well, nine seasons. How long was production? I assume 10 years.
Dulay Hill
About 10.
Abigail Spencer
About, yeah. Is there one story that you always tell at a dinner party that you haven't told in public yet?
Dulay Hill
I don't know if I've told this story in public, but I want to tell it. This is one of the first times. This is when Suits was just becoming really popular. And so it was that first moment of like, oh, my God, people are, like, kind of looking at me on a plane or whatever. And so I was sitting in the back of the plane on a trip, and we get to the end and bing. And everybody stands up to get their bags, and there's people like these two girls way down at the end, and they turn and some. One of them sees me. And you see the lights. Like, the lights go on, and she's like. She's like, oh, my God, there he is. And so the whole plane goes. They're all looking at me. They have no idea who I am. Because she's the only one watching Suits. And they're, like, looking at me. And she goes, no, no, no, that's the guy from Suits to her friend. And she's like, I don't know what is Suits. I don't know what Suits is. And she's like, it's amazing. It's about two lawyers. One's hot, and he's the other one. And the whole. And the whole plane just goes, oh.
Amanda Schull
Oh, that's funny.
Abigail Spencer
Oh, my God.
Dulay Hill
Oh, my God. That's good.
Abigail Spencer
Wherever you are, girl, we're thinking of you.
Dulay Hill
That was good. God. Wherever they are, thank you for that.
Abigail Spencer
Thank you. Does anybody have a story that could equal that?
Dulay Hill
I don't think so.
Amanda Schull
I will say I did wonder what I got myself into, though, because of course it Suits.
Dulay Hill
Yeah.
Amanda Schull
You know, everyone's so slick and cool. And then my. I think my. One of my first scenes was the mudding thing with Louis Litt.
Abigail Spencer
Oh, yes.
Amanda Schull
I had to, like, be.
Sarah Rafferty
That was just a baptism.
Amanda Schull
Yes. I was like, what in the world? Like, this is not what I signed up for.
Dulay Hill
Thought this was a lawyer show. Yeah.
Amanda Schull
I was like, what is this mudding thing?
Dulay Hill
What?
Amanda Schull
Yeah, so that was. That was a shock to the system.
Sarah Rafferty
How long were you in the mud?
Amanda Schull
I mean, I can't even. I mean, that was my scene.
Sarah Rafferty
Seven hours.
Amanda Schull
No, I think six hours. It was a long time, though, because I got out and then they put a robe on and got back in.
Dulay Hill
Oh, it's insane. They had to put, like, a hot tub, like, a pool. Remember, there's, like, a bath on. Because if you sit in that stuff for more than, like, half an hour, it, like, dehydrates you, really. But, like, you actually start to feel like you can't, like, stand up. You get so dizzy. And he. Rick would have to be in it for, like, the whole day because he'd shoot, like, you know, if there were three mudding scenes, they would just put them all together. So he would just be in the mud and in the mud and in.
Sarah Rafferty
The mud, and you would float. When you got in there, they had to put you in a seatbelt.
Dulay Hill
They had to weight you down, hold you down with a strap.
Sarah Rafferty
Yeah.
Amanda Schull
Thankfully, it was a dream. It was called Mudmare. That was the name of the episode. And it was a dream for Louis Litt, so I only had to do it one time. And that was my last. First and last. You know, And I don't think you'll ever see me in a bath of mud ever again in my career.
Abigail Spencer
Abigail, are you sad you didn't muddle? Do you wish you had mud?
Jeff Wachtel
I'm sorry, what? How do you know I'm not.
Abigail Spencer
You could be mudding right now.
Jeff Wachtel
I could be. Wouldn't that be interesting?
Abigail Spencer
This is something I was gonna do later, but we're talking about mud, so I'll do it now. Rapid fire. Would you rather go mudding with Lewis or wine tasting with Robert Zane? Yeah, that's.
Amanda Schull
What kind of question is that?
Dulay Hill
It's like, would I rather live? Can I go muddying with Robert Zane?
Abigail Spencer
Yes. You could also pick that.
Dulay Hill
I'll do that.
Abigail Spencer
Okay. Sarah. Mudding.
Sarah Rafferty
I'd like choosing my favorite, Child Fair. I would like both.
Amanda Schull
I think I've been very clear. I'll take Wendell Pierce any day.
Abigail Spencer
Amanda.
Gina Torres
Katrina Bennett doesn't mud.
Abigail Spencer
True. She does ballet.
Jeff Wachtel
Mudding. After wine tasting over here.
Abigail Spencer
Mudding while wine tasting. A flight while you mud tux and tox and retox.
Dulay Hill
Retox. Yeah.
Jeff Wachtel
There you go.
Abigail Spencer
Yeah, Jeff.
Aaron Korsh
I'll go Wine tasting with Dulet.
Amanda Schull
Including choice.
Abigail Spencer
So we're talking season nine because it is nine. One month, people. One month on Netflix.
Dulay Hill
July 1st, right?
Abigail Spencer
July 1st.
Jeff Wachtel
What a cliffhanger.
Abigail Spencer
July 1st. What are you most excited for people to get to re Watch. Watch. Because you should have watched it on USA when it aired. But to re watch what's.
Dulay Hill
From season.
Abigail Spencer
Nine, specifically season nine, what are you.
Dulay Hill
Most excited to take the one episode. I'm in.
Abigail Spencer
The three.
Dulay Hill
Three. I know. Three. It's felt like one. No, I'm not. I'm the wrong person to answer this question. It was not my time. That was not my time. I got you.
Amanda Schull
I mean, I would say, like, obviously people have been on a long journey with the show. It's been all these seasons, you've. There's been these battles for whose name is on the wall, who's there, who's still a part of the firm, who's gotten fired, and all the different incarnations of the firm. You can. You've been consistent in the process, and now you can see how it all comes to an end. I think you'll see where all the characters end up in season nine. I think that'll be the payoff, will be worth it for everybody.
Abigail Spencer
I agree.
Sarah Rafferty
I think the clothes get amazing. I mean, it was like, leave it on the field, everybody.
Abigail Spencer
Yes.
Sarah Rafferty
Like, yeah, Jolie. We had two incredible. We had Jolie and Jordana, and they were unbelievable.
Jeff Wachtel
Jolie and Jordana.
Dulay Hill
I will say that. I just want to say how grateful I am that I got to come back. Leaving the show was, as you can imagine, a really hard decision. And I made it for a few reasons, but one of them was really I'd been away from my incredible wife who's with us tonight, and I was really hungry to, like, start our life together. It was a big part of why I made the decision. And when I left, I thought, I'm probably leaving and probably not coming back. And to leave your family is the hardest thing in the world. I was leaving one family for another that had not really yet been started. And so to be invited back, to be there when it ended, like, if I had not gotten to be on that set in the final days of the show and got to have been a part of that, I don't know that I would have recovered from it. And for Aaron to have made a Space for me and to invited me back. And I remember being at the wedding on the set and with our little girl Aurora, who was a baby at the time. And just that, like, full circle of, like, I get to be here in this moment with the reason that I left with this little girl and all of these people that had meant so much to me. Not just the cast, but the crew all getting to meet her and seeing why I had made that decision. That was such a full circle moment that if I. If I hadn't had that, I think it would have crushed me. It would have made. It would have made suits a whole different thing. I wouldn't have gotten to close it out with everyone.
Amanda Schull
I was gonna take it personal. I'm glad I heard this. This was the reason why. Because, I mean, I came in season six. All of a sudden, he was like.
Dulay Hill
Yeah, it was mostly you, though. That's why I left.
Amanda Schull
Wow, man. We only did, like, a couple scenes together. Damn, man. Was I that bad?
Abigail Spencer
Okay, I get it.
Dulay Hill
I can't do this with him, man. I'm gone.
Abigail Spencer
This is a deeply funny show to me. The scene about the cat, like, makes me laugh every single time. Where it's like, he took your cat. He tortured a cat. It's just like, Mikado. Which moment is your favorite? Like, which always makes you laugh. Anybody got. If you think of one, tell me.
Gina Torres
I had fun shooting the awkward hug with you, Patrick. I don't remember which season that was. Four or five.
Sarah Rafferty
Four.
Gina Torres
We had to hug a lot. We weren't awkward enough. Do you remember that? Yeah. I really enjoyed it because it was just. Just so quintessential Katrina to just be awkward but want to show expression, like an emotion. Like, I've seen this on tv. This is what people do, you know? And Patrick is a very comfortable person, obviously. And I just remember really enjoying that. And your face when we were doing it was like, what. What are you.
Dulay Hill
Why are you hugging me?
Gina Torres
Yeah, this is why, you know?
Dulay Hill
Or. Or shit. She.
Gina Torres
Oh, shit.
Sarah Rafferty
That's iconic.
Dulay Hill
That was good.
Abigail Spencer
Would you like to practice a little more?
Dulay Hill
We just did it. No, you got it. You got it.
Gina Torres
That was fun. That was fun.
Dulay Hill
That was fun. When we legitimately. When we had to shoot that scene in the. In the filing room, that was pretty.
Sarah Rafferty
That was really fun.
Dulay Hill
Really funny. Yeah, that was because we love physical humor, you and I. You especially. You're like a master at it. So figuring out the timing of, like, okay, so you're on your knees. How close are you? Okay, that's close. All right. Okay. No need to knock on the door and like, the technicalities. Oh, yeah, and you're messing up my hair. And that was great.
Sarah Rafferty
I remember going to the hair department and being like, can I touch his hair?
Abigail Spencer
And were they like, No.
Sarah Rafferty
I always loved flashback scenes. Those were always my favorite. I am really. I really enjoy being emotionally manipulated. And the thing that manipulates me more than anything is the power passage of time. If there's time jumps. Oh, get that today.
Abigail Spencer
I think we have a phone call.
Dulay Hill
Aaron, we're kind of in the middle of something right now.
Sarah Rafferty
You put him on speaker.
Dulay Hill
Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on. Mute. No, not mute speaker. What did you say?
Rick Hoffman
I was just thinking about you on a random Sunday, I think I'm calling for our weekly Sunday 1 o'clock chats.
Dulay Hill
Real quick, unprompted. Who was your favorite person on the show again?
Rick Hoffman
I think you know, my favorite characters are probably everybody. Let me think. Well, Alex Williams would be up there.
Amanda Schull
Great answer, Great answer.
Rick Hoffman
Dottie would be up there. And of the original regulars, it would be R.V.
Dulay Hill
Duncan. All right, all right, that's enough. We as. Do you have anything you might just theoretically want to say to 600 people who are gathered because they love the show that you created?
Rick Hoffman
No, not really.
Dulay Hill
Hold on. We have a question for you.
Abigail Spencer
Do you want to tell us anything about the can opener? Any can openers?
Rick Hoffman
No.
Dulay Hill
Yeah, he. 100%. I can answer that for you.
Rick Hoffman
Yes. The story I will tell about the can opener is that when we first wrote the episode where we introduced to Kevin Bray, who was the original pilot director, and the director also, of that episode, he told me, you got to reveal what they do with the can opener. And I said, no, I don't. And he was like, well, you have to. They're going to want to know. And I said, they don't want to know. They want to want to know. And I might have been right. I might have been wrong, but I don't think you'd be asking me that question 15 years later if I ever told you what it was. That's my.
Abigail Spencer
That's why he's the boss.
Amanda Schull
The question you gotta ask is, does he know what it is?
Dulay Hill
You know what it is, is the question.
Rick Hoffman
No, I don't.
Abigail Spencer
You really learn.
Sarah Rafferty
Guess who knows what it is.
Dulay Hill
Say it again. Sarah's saying she knows what it is.
Rick Hoffman
Oh, Sarah knows what it is.
Sarah Rafferty
I believe it.
Rick Hoffman
I believe it.
Abigail Spencer
Donna knows.
Dulay Hill
All fun as it is for a whole group of people to look At a cell phone next to a microphone. Is there anything else that you do want to say to all these people? Because I do.
Rick Hoffman
I do. I want to say thank. First of all, I wish I could have been there. I foolishly scheduled my son's bar mitzvah for the same weekend that this thing is. So that's where I am. That's where I was last night. But I think. I mean, I really do thank everybody for coming. I can't believe the support that the fans have given the show through its run. And then really, again now. So thanks, everybody, so much. I wish I were there. And that's all I got.
Dulay Hill
Thanks, Aaron.
Abigail Spencer
Thank you, Aaron.
Dulay Hill
I'll give you a call when we're done. Hi. Gabriel did a great Aaron impression. I thought.
Abigail Spencer
If we're talking show secrets, my first one I need to ask is, who do you think is Donna's famous ex?
Sarah Rafferty
Oh, Give that a little back story.
Abigail Spencer
Okay. I don't know if you guys remember this. You seem like super fans, so this is gonna be the last question before we open it up to you guys on it, honestly. But Donna is like, I'm black.
Dulay Hill
Did you say that on the show? Wow. Would we get away with it?
Abigail Spencer
Supervisors. And Gretchen goes, yeah, okay. Gretchen, the one. No, it was Gretchen.
Dulay Hill
Wait, someone knows what happened?
Abigail Spencer
Want to come act it out?
Sarah Rafferty
Yeah.
Abigail Spencer
Gretchen the secretary.
Sarah Rafferty
Yes. And the executive. You go, yes to Gretchen that replaced Donna when she left to go with Lewis.
Dulay Hill
You said that too. Yeah. Okay.
Sarah Rafferty
Yes.
Dulay Hill
You said it to Gretchen. You're like, oh, God.
Abigail Spencer
You reveal a photo, Donna reveals you're not Donna. You're you. A secret photo of some ex. And then she goes, really? And she goes, yeah. And then we all laugh at home. Who do you think? The exes. Anybody have theories?
Sarah Rafferty
Because she says, who do you think this song was about? Right. Okay, so I would like to open up this to the group, but I'm gonna offer some prompts.
Abigail Spencer
I know my theory.
Sarah Rafferty
Okay. I'm excited for that. So I think at the time, I was thinking, like, Usher.
Abigail Spencer
Ooh, that's hot. That's very hot.
Dulay Hill
I did not see that direction. Okay, no judgment, no judgment.
Sarah Rafferty
Where were you going?
Dulay Hill
Like Idris Elba?
Sarah Rafferty
No, Idris Elba isn't a recording.
Abigail Spencer
But he's a dj.
Dulay Hill
Oh, it was a record. It was a musician.
Sarah Rafferty
No, because Idris Elba was my. Was who I was thinking of for one of her many never seen boyfriends. Do you know how long it took me to actually get one of those boyfriends to show up? I was like, are we gonna see that? That one?
Dulay Hill
No.
Sarah Rafferty
So Idris Elbow was one of those. But this is not this moment. This was a record. I didn't. Okay. Anyway, Usher with hot.
Abigail Spencer
Good for Usher.
Sarah Rafferty
I think I would take it into the present now and I would say, you know, with all deference to Toronto.
Dulay Hill
Oh, oh. You do not want to get in the middle of this thing. You do not want to get in the right now. Trust me. I've been on the Internet for weeks. You do not want to do this. Where are you gonna go do it?
Abigail Spencer
She was gonna say Prince.
Dulay Hill
We'll get a lot of. We'll get a lot of clicks. We're gonna get some clicks. Let's go. Who is it?
Abigail Spencer
Prince.
Dulay Hill
Oh, she. Okay, you said out loud. She said Kendrick Lamar.
Abigail Spencer
Oh, yeah.
Dulay Hill
Now I can't go back to my hometown. Thanks for that.
Abigail Spencer
What do we think, Prince? We think Prince. That's my theory.
Dulay Hill
Prince. She's the Corvette.
Amanda Schull
She's the Corvette.
Dulay Hill
She's the Corvette. And scene. It's better over here.
Amanda Schull

It's time to get the world talking about black LED brands. We all have our favorites, but we can't keep them all to ourselves. So if you're feeling like a black opal beauty, tell somebody. If the lip bar is giving you a lip for every drip, let them know.
Dulay Hill
And if your hair is doing the.

Dulay Hill
We got the 10 minute sign, so we gotta. We should get some questions from people if they have any.
Sarah Rafferty
Prince.
Abigail Spencer
Right here. Oh, great placement.
Dulay Hill
Whoa. Dramatic.
Abigail Spencer
Whoa, gorgeous.
Sarah Rafferty
Hi, I'm Arianna.
Gina Torres
Nice to meet you all.
Dulay Hill
Hi. Great to meet you.
Sarah Rafferty
So many USA shows have become movies. Is that something you guys are open to? Could that ever potentially happen?
Dulay Hill
Yes.
Sarah Rafferty
Yes.
Dulay Hill
But I do, I say that not being a person who has no power or authority, but obviously there's a suits LA show that is being made that is the focus Of Aaron, I think you would agree. But it's definitely something he's interested in doing in trying to get the band back together. So it's going to depend on a million things if that can happen. But is it possible? I think it is possible.
Sarah Rafferty
Is the band down? What is the band down to get together?
Dulay Hill
Is the what this band member is down to play another show?
Amanda Schull
I'll say. I can't speak for all of USA film shows being made into films. I would definitely like to be doing another one.
Sarah Rafferty
Awesome. Thank you.
Abigail Spencer
Thank you.
Dulay Hill
Hi, my name is Novel. Hey. First of all, love the show. So aside from the fact of Harvey and Mike's relationship, this show had badass women.
Abigail Spencer
Woo. Yeah, it does.
Dulay Hill
One of which who's not here? I just want to shout out. Is Ms. Gina Torres. Of course.
Sarah Rafferty
Yes.
Dulay Hill
Shout out. My question is for Patrick. When you and Gabriel reunited for those T Mobile commercials, was it hard to basically get back into that Persona, working opposite each other basically in your suits characters? Essentially. It took three seconds.
Sarah Rafferty
Yeah.
Dulay Hill
We couldn't not do it if we tried. It's like so ingrained into. In fact, it's hard for Gabriel and I to hang out, I would say, as people, because we fall into that rhythm, which doesn't actually make sense for who we are personally, but it. It's so a part of who we are. So no, it took no time at all. It was actually really fun because we were. It was back in a very free. As you could tell from the commercials, it's very improvised and very free flow, and we're just throwing stuff up against the wall. It's a little bit like that scene you just watched. That's like the kind of stuff we love to do. So it was actually such a gift to get back together and to be able to do that. Awesome.
Amanda Schull
I want to add to that with your commercial that you, Gina and Rick did. How was that?
Sarah Rafferty
Oh, it was. It was so fun and it was so easy to get right back there. Also, I mean, I spend a lot of time with both of them. I would say that Gina's in my relationship is not a Jessica Donna one. But Rick and I have our moments and I cherish my time with both of them. It was really wonderful. Thank you.
Abigail Spencer
We have five minutes to make these good.
Gina Torres
One time I went on a hinge date and the man once said, you remind me of Donna from Suits. My question is, to all of the women on the panel. What impact do you hope your portrayal of your characters on Suits leaves for generations of female viewers for Years to come.
Abigail Spencer
Great question.
Jeff Wachtel
You have two minutes real quick. I think it's amazing. People are like, oh, my God, I love Scotty. I want to be like Scotty. And Scotty is. A lot of people say maybe the female Harvey, but I love that she's just got it over time and through the rewatch. Now she just stands on her own. And it's a tremendous honor to put that forward. And by the way, again, this started 15 years ago. So this was really. This has been around for a while. So, yeah, I love it.
Gina Torres
These female characters were all created by men. Maybe Genevieve was in the room in the beginning, maybe. But that's saying that they wanted to see these women. So why can't these women, you know, stand up as an example of what women should be in a law firm or in a business world? You know, that's sort of the gift that these characters were, that they were strong and they were multifaceted and they were interesting and funny.
Dulay Hill
Yeah.
Sarah Rafferty
Looked great. Hello. I would say. I would also add to that the yes and is. And also, I think that they were drawn as women who leaned into their femininity as their superpower, that they were not trying to fit into a man's world. It was their world. And I think that comes down even to, like, what we wore and the silhouettes that we wore. And I think for Donna specifically, I'm really happy that people have connected to how much she leads with her heart. And I think one of the ways. I'm just gonna leave with that.
Gina Torres
Well, but that's. What is it. Ginger Rogers says, I do everything Fred Astaire does, only I do it backward in heels.
Abigail Spencer
This is going to be our last question. I assume so.
Dulay Hill
First one, acknowledge that lightning in a bottle that this show is.
Abigail Spencer
I had never thought anything but Top Friends.
Dulay Hill
Emotional just seeing you guys here. I will never love a show more than I love suits. Oh, thank you. The casting, the actors, the writing, it's just everybody amazing.
Abigail Spencer
Even from Harvey backing up on the bedbugs. Just the slight things.
Dulay Hill
Nobody else may be caught.
Abigail Spencer
My question's for you, Patrick. Since you became an executive producer, I can't remember where in the journey that.
Dulay Hill
Started showing up on those signs, did you ever kind of go back and forth on character development, like Mike Ross getting his butt kicked? Quite a few. You know, like, I was always room for Mike Ross, but he kind of got the bat stick on some of those fights. Before they allowed me to be a producer, I probably weighed in more than they wanted me to, but it was no, the truth is, as being a producer, it's a bit of a. You're given that as a sort of testament to the fact that you've already played an important role in it. It doesn't really change the dynamic of what your What. What decisions you're welcome to be a part of making. The truth is, we were always in cahoots together. Aaron was the final call. The writers room were coming up with ideas, but I was welcome to be a part of it as anyone was to be a part of that dialogue. And we were free to give up our ideas or concerns if something was going in a way. But truthfully, the bigger thing was when I was welcome to be a director, that was what changed my relationship with the show forever and my relationship to this work forever. To step across that line and to take on that responsibility and to understand what went in all the. Because as an actor, you show up and you're just like, I'm the most important person in the world. What are we doing today? And you don't realize that a thousand things have been decided before you get there. And that changed my relationship to everything. Getting to do that much prep and getting to know all the different departments and getting to see what they do and getting to be a part of that decision making process and being welcomed into their craft, that was huge.
Patrick J. Adams
Yeah.
Aaron Korsh
By the way, he's a really good director.
Amanda Schull
I was gonna say the same thing.
Aaron Korsh
Sometimes actors will come on and. Yeah, yeah, fine, that's lovely. But actually, Patrick's rigor and professionalism and creativity, some of the better episodes were directed by him.
Dulay Hill
Oh, thanks.
Abigail Spencer
Thank you for answering my question. Sarah Rafferty special.
Gina Torres
Hi, Sarah. I'm Sophie from Brazil, and I just. I want to thank you and Patrick for making this podcast because, like, we are from Suits fandom. We are five years without the show.
Abigail Spencer
And being able to see you guys.
Gina Torres
Promoting it, it's like a dream contract.
Sarah Rafferty
You.
Dulay Hill
It's a dream come true.
Gina Torres
But my question is to Sarah.
Abigail Spencer
You are such a fashion icon.
Gina Torres
How many donut clothes did you kept for yourself?
Sarah Rafferty
We'll talk after.
Abigail Spencer
Oh, my God. Before we go, does anybody want to say any final words for Norma? Dear departed Norma.
Dulay Hill
No, I guess not.
Abigail Spencer
Wow. Rip to a battle.
Amanda Schull
I'm surprised that we've gone through this whole thing and not said God damn it once.
Dulay Hill
Yeah.
Amanda Schull
I mean, come on.
Abigail Spencer
God damn it. God damn it.
Dulay Hill
God damn it. I do want to say something. Not about Norma, but just each and every person in this room right now. Your faith and love and excitement and enthusiasm about this show does not go unheard. It's changed our whole lives. Everybody up here. It has changed our lives that there are people, all the people in the room and all the people who aren't with us tonight. Thank you so much for the love for this show and for keeping it alive and keeping us talking about it. It's such a gift. And as much as we love doing it, we couldn't have done any of it if you hadn't kept showing up and continuing to show up. So thank you. Thank you so much.
Abigail Spencer
Give yourself a round of applause.
