What Earnest Walker does behind the wheel each week is important, there is no doubt. But what he does off the road rises to another level. Our guest today is a 14-year Class A driver with multiple certifications (CNG, manual, right-hand drive, specialty, etc) and some Class A stats. He currently boasts a 100% check-in rate, 90% completion, 79% on-time for the year, and 100% on-time in April. Earnest Walker is his name, and on today’s episode, he shares the strategies and tactics he’s learned over many years and through different vantage points in the world of trucking. Once an owner-operator, Earnest tested the waters of driveaway trucking after a breakdown. After experiencing driveaway with Norton and the money he could make, he left owner-operating for good. The original meaning behind a particular handshake called the ‘DAP’ is both special and apropos. The story goes that a brotherhood of African-American soldiers in Vietnam dubbed their unique greeting ‘DAP’ to communicate dignity and pride. We’re pleased to welcome Arthur Trader back for part two of our conversation. In the last episode, we discovered that he’s been driving trucks for over 30 years! But, he’s been running between the lines for far longer than that. Long before he was guiding his tires between the lines of the open roads, he was gliding on his own two legs between the lines of stadium tracks, football fields, and basketball courts. Arthur Trader was an athlete and continues to love sports to this day. For years, he has considered getting certified to step back onto those fields of play as a referee. We were introduced last week to Medley Fleuranvil and his prolific production over the road as a Driveaway driver. We’re pleased to welcome him back this week to hear about his life off the road. Now, having already met him, you know that he’s about as fly as they come. But, Medley takes it to a whole ‘nother level and to a whole different spelling. He and his business partner are building an apparel line called PHLY, which stands for Peace, Happiness, Love, and Yours. In addition to this side hustle, Medley talks about his newfound love for fishing along the coastal waters of his hometown of West Palm Beach, Florida. He also takes us inside the gaming world where he plays competitively in what he hopes will eventually produce a streaming career.
