Okay, tonight Strengthening your immune system while you sleep We've heard a lot about our immune systems over the last couple of years, obviously, and all the ways we can support them. So let's take a look. First of all, there's two major parts of your immune system. First, there's the doorway through which viruses and other pathogens enter your body. And second, there's the army that combats anything that manages to get through the door. Now, the door to your body is your microbiome, and principally the microbiome in your gut. This is a huge, and I mean huge and yet microscopic collection of good bacteria that lives in your intestines. I know it's a little weird and gross, but it's the truth. These bacteria are constantly protecting you against bad bacteria and viruses by combating them in your gut. So stopping them at the door, stopping them from entering your body. The microbiome was only named actually very recently in the year 2000, and we've only just begun to understand it. And it's believed that these microscopic critters are responsible for roughly 70% of your immune response. So staying well comes down to simply keeping this door closed, keeping your microbiome healthy. And guess what? Relaxing deeply supports your microbiome. Big time. When our minds are stressed out, our guts are stressed out, and vice versa. So just by doing this hypnosis, you are strengthening your microbiome. Now, your second level of immune defense is the one we already knew about. These are the different types of white blood cells with cool names like T cells, neutrophils, and microphages or phages. I don't know. These cells make up a specialized army of that's designed to kill invaders. And again, these cells respond way better to internal enemies when you get good rest and reduce stress. As far back as 1969, studies showed that relaxation techniques increased the number of immune cells in the body. Which makes sense. I mean, when we get stressed out, we spend tons of energy on our whirring brains, tense muscles, biting our nails, which should probably be held in reserve for the real fightsthe immunity fights. So learning how to relax is not just about improving sleep or relationships or mental health. Learning to relax allows your body to have what it needs when it needs it.
Episode: A Hypnotherapist on... Strengthening Your Immune System
Host: Jessica Porter
Date: November 24, 2025
In this soothing episode, hypnotherapist Jessica Porter explores how deep relaxation, restful sleep, and guided hypnosis can physically strengthen your immune system, particularly through supporting your gut microbiome and the body’s immune defenses. Using accessible metaphors, scientific insight, and her trademark calm, Jessica bridges sleep hypnosis with both emotional and physical wellness.
Jessica Porter’s gentle, encouraging style infuses the episode with a sense of calm and hopefulness. Her practical metaphors (“door” and “army”), conversational curiosity, and affirmations of self-care make the science approachable and the sleep hypnosis practice feel like an accessible, nurturing tool for holistic wellness.
This episode powerfully connects the dots between mind, body, and rest, reframing relaxation not just as a luxury, but as a foundational act of immune self-care. Through her expert but friendly voice, Jessica reminds listeners that each moment spent unwinding and meditating is an investment in both short-term peace and long-term health.
