Hi everyone, I'm Jessica Porter, and welcome back to Sleep Magic, a podcast where I help you find the magic of your own mind, helping you to sleep better and live better. Thank you to everyone who's listening right now. I'm going to keep it short tonight because this is an episode designed to help people take relatively short naps. Although if you're sleeping for the night, it will work as well. So let's get started. A restful nap on a Mexican beach. Before we get started, let's hear a quick word from our sponsors who make this free content possible. Hey, Sleep Magic listeners, if you enjoy the stories and sessions we do here, you might also like having another gentle voice in your sleep routine. There's a podcast I think pairs beautifully with Sleep Magic. It's called Sleepy, and it's hosted by Otis Gray. Each week, Otis reads classics in a soft, steady voice to help you fall asleep. You'll hear stories like the Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Thumbelina, and the Mark on the Wall. Beautifully told calming reeds to soothe your mind at bedtime. Sleepy is a lovely companion to what we do here, something you can turn on when a peaceful, familiar story feels just right. You can listen to Sleepy on Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts new bedtime stories. Every Every once in a while, I go somewhere that makes me think this is a great place for a nap. I mean, I may or may not nod off myself there, but I'm thinking of you guys of this show, and I'm jotting down all the details of the place. Imagining an episode Well, I was recently in Cabo San Lucas, the same place I went for the massage episode I did last year, and I was relaxing on Santa Maria Beach, a quaint little crescent of sand around a bay of warm turquoise water. It is safe, peaceful, and a sensory delight. So I thought we should take a nap here. For those of you who want to use this recording for a nap, I will be counting you out at the end of the meditation, but I recommend you set an alarm clock or something as backup in case you go really, really deep. And for everyone else who's here to sleep through the night, when you hear me counting out at the end, I will give the suggestion that those numbers just take you deeper and deeper and your subconscious mind will understand which direction it needs to go. It knows whether you're napping or sleeping. Good. So get yourself into a safe and comfortable position and let's begin. Allow your eyes to close easily and gently and take a nice cleansing breath or two, allowing Whatever part of the day you have lived, whether it's half or all of it, just allowing the day to release, it feels good to let go. It's okay to let go. So as you bring your awareness to your breathing, just let your whole world melt down to your breath, allowing the rest of the world to simply disappear for a moment. This is your time that you get to take for yourself. Good. Now I'd like you to bring your awareness up into your eyelids and allow your eyelids to be flooded with heaviness, relaxation pouring into your eyelids so they're feeling very, very relaxed. And now I'd like you to accept the suggestion that your eyelids are so relaxed that they will not open. And now I'd like you to test your eyelids to make sure they won't open by wiggling your eyebrows. Just give them a little tug while your eyes remain closed. You're just pretending here, but pretending is powerful, and you can stop testing now. Good. And this lovely, heavy, relaxed feeling that you have in your eyelid, let's imagine it moving all the way back into your head, so your head is feeling weirdly heavy. Heavy. And you allow the heaviness to just set in. Mmm. Notice how easily you're letting go. If you've been listening to sleep magic for a while, you're getting really good at letting go. As that relaxation moves down into your neck and your shoulders. That lovely, warm letting go feeling, the heavy feeling moving down your arms into your hands and your fingers. Good. And now you notice that your whole torso is feeling heavy. Wherever you're lying or reclining or even sitting, your torso from deep inside is feeling relaxed and heavy. The muscles of your belly softening and releasing, the muscles of your lower back and hips and buttocks relaxing. And now you allow the heavy feeling to move down into your legs, down into your feet and your toes. Your whole body feeling loose and limp and relaxed. And even though you may notice some sounds going on around you in your environment, they're simply taking you deeper and deeper into this lovely restful place. And as your body is relaxing, your mind is relaxing. And as your mind is relaxing, your body is relaxing. And as your body is relaxing, going deeper and deeper, feeling heavier and heavier, your mind is relaxing, drifting and floating. Imagine you are standing on warm sand. You are at a small beach that curves gently like a crescent moon between two rugged cliffs. These mighty cliffs cradle this tiny inlet of bright blue water as it flows in from the Sea of Cortez. You are at the most southern tip of the Baja California peninsula. The sun is bright and warm and is taking you deeper and even deeper. You feel the sand on your feet. It's warm and slightly grainy, a combination of powdered coral and crushed shell. As you look down at the sand, it's sparkling under the Baja sun. It's beige, with glints of pink and pearl. You walk slowly toward the water and the sand beneath your feet grows cooler, damper, more soothing. Your toes sink into the sand. You get to the shore, where the water is a brilliant turquoise. But in the center of the COVID where it is deeper, the blue becomes more like a sapphire. The water in this inlet is calm and the gentle waves just kiss the shore. They sound lovely and rhythmic. You wade into the water just a bit. The temperature is perfect, refreshing, yet relaxing. The sea is inviting you like a warm bath, and you wade in just up to your knees. You enjoy the water, feeling its gentle pull around your calves. You watch the whorls of water and specks of foam created on them. It is soft and hypnotic and takes you deeper and deeper into relaxation. As you stand in the water, you see the sunlight glistening on its surface. You take a nice deep breath. The air smells of salt and stone and you relax, feeling loose and limp and content. It's time to lie down and rest even more deeply. So you turn around and walk back along the sand to a long row of beach chairs. Each one is under a big striped umbrella, casting a lovely shadow. A thick, luxurious towel has been laid on your. You sit down on the edge of your chair and you're in the shade now, and it feels good. You brush the sand from your feet slowly, letting the grains hands fall through your toes. Next to your chair is a table with an ice bucket cooling a bottle of water. You open it and take a sip. Ah, it feels so refreshing going down. You lie back on the chair and take a nice deep breath. This whole place, it's about relaxation. It is inviting you to relax. As your eyes adjust to the shade, you look out over the water. Three pelicans fly low, skimming over the water with such grace. The warm breeze feels kind and gentle on your skin. You recline in the chair even more and close your eyes. You feel so comfortable. Maybe you even roll onto your side and curl up. Whatever position feels good for a snooze. Your body feels safe, secure, warm as you are held by the heat. Every part of you going deep, deeper and deeper. You hear the hush of the waves. Hush, hush. And your body is responding to the sound in such a deep and primal way. Hush, hush, hush. As you align with the rhythms of nature. You feel quiet, soft. And as you go deeper and deeper, you dive down into the sea inside of you, where your thoughts swim like dolphins, and you drift and float. SA In a moment, I'm going to count from one to five. And if you were listening to this in the evening, as you're going to sleep for the night, with every number that I say, allow yourself to go deeper and even deeper into relaxation. But if you are listening to this, after taking a nap, with every number that I say, you will come closer and closer to your conscious waking state. And on the count of five, you will open your eyes, feeling refreshed, energized, and ready to move on with your day. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. It. It.

By guiding the audience through a vivid visualization of a serene Mexican beach, Jessica employs gentle hypnosis techniques to calm the mind and relax the body.
Setting the Scene ([02:15]):
Jessica begins by inviting listeners to imagine themselves on Santa Maria Beach in Cabo San Lucas—a picturesque crescent of sand nestled between rugged cliffs with warm turquoise waters. She meticulously describes the sensory details:
"The sand on your feet is warm and slightly grainy, a combination of powdered coral and crushed shell. As you look down, it's sparkling under the Baja sun, beige with glints of pink and pearl."
— Jessica Porter [02:45]
Body Scan for Relaxation ([05:30]):
Employing a classic body scan technique, Jessica guides listeners to progressively relax each part of their body, starting from the eyelids and moving downward:
"Bring your awareness up into your eyelids and allow them to flood with heaviness... Now, allow this heaviness to move down into your neck and shoulders, letting go deeper with each breath."
— Jessica Porter [05:45]
This methodical relaxation ensures that physical tension dissipates, allowing the mind to follow suit into a state of calm.
Breathing and Mental Release ([08:20]):
Jessica emphasizes the importance of breathing as a tool to center oneself:
"Take a nice cleansing breath or two, allowing whatever part of the day you've lived to release. It feels good to let go."
— Jessica Porter [08:35]
By focusing solely on breath, listeners are encouraged to let go of daily stresses, facilitating a seamless transition into deeper relaxation.
Visual and Auditory Engagement ([12:10]):
To anchor the visualization, Jessica incorporates both visual and auditory elements:
"The water in this inlet is calm, and the gentle waves just kiss the shore. They sound lovely and rhythmic, taking you deeper and deeper into relaxation."
— Jessica Porter [12:25]
The rhythmic sound of waves serves as a soothing backdrop, enhancing the immersive experience.
Customizing the Experience ([18:50]):
Understanding that listeners may have varying intentions—whether a short nap or full night's sleep—Jessica provides tailored suggestions:
"For those who want to use this recording for a nap, I will be counting you out at the end of the meditation, but I recommend you set an alarm clock as a backup."
— Jessica Porter [18:55]
Conversely, for nighttime listeners:
"When you hear me counting out at the end, I will give the suggestion that those numbers just take you deeper and deeper."
— Jessica Porter [19:10]
This dual approach ensures that the hypnosis session aligns with the listener's specific needs.
Gradual Return ([25:00]):
As the session concludes, Jessica gently brings listeners back to their conscious state through a counting-out technique:
"In a moment, I'm going to count from one to five. On the count of five, you will open your eyes, feeling refreshed, energized, and ready to move on with your day."
— Jessica Porter [25:15]
This method ensures a smooth transition from deep relaxation to full awareness, leaving listeners feeling rejuvenated.
