I hear from you guys all the time about those nights where your thoughts just won't switch off no matter how tired you are. It's exactly what we work on together here with Sleep Magic. And it's also the idea behind another podcast called Nothing Much Happens, hosted by Kathryn Nicolai. Her show, like ours, is all about calming your nervous system with gentle storytelling. Nothing stressful, nothing dramatic, nothing you need to keep track of, just soft narration and repetition to help you drift into rest. Millions of people around the world listen to Nothing Much Happens to quiet their minds before bed, and I recently checked out an episode called from the Hammock on one of those nights where my thoughts wouldn't quit and it really relaxed me. So if you'd like another tool in your bedtime kit if you it could be worth adding this to your listening routine. You can listen to Nothing Much Happens wherever you get your podcasts episodes every Monday and Thursday. Enjoy and thanks for letting us know how this is working for you. And not only is good for us to hear this to make us just feel good about what we do, but in hypnosis there's a phenomenon called the convincer. And a convincer is when you hear about someone else's success with hypnosis that almost begins your own success with hypnosis. It's really important to hear how other people are doing and the good things that are happening. And on that note, we heard from someone named Baz who Sundays in early 2021 I decided to try out the Sleepiest app due to stress. And then later that year, Baz needed some medical attention for months. And then he continues all this to say for nights, weeks, months. I listened to your episode on pain and it really, really helped. It's years later now and my body is still healing and I still bring up that episode when I need it. You have not known it, but you have been with me through these darkest moments. Thank you and please keep doing this work. Thank you Baz and we everyone at Sleep Magic sends you good vibes for your continued healing. I know not everyone has a story quite as dramatic as that, thankfully, but it gives us all an idea of what relaxation can do, what chilling out the nervous system can do. And when we develop these skills, these tools to reduce our own stress levels, the body can do it's magic. So thank you for sharing. Thank you everyone for sharing. We read everything you say and we're just really grateful that you're here. Okay, tonight, chill out your nervous system.
Guided Meditation Voice
Dude. No, there's no dude.
Jessica Porter
We love to say stuff like she gets on my nerves or I'm going to have a nervous breakdown or that makes me nervous. But what exactly is the nervous system? Well, technically it is your brain and your spinal cord, and it's a system that sends out and receives information to and from you via your nerves. Neurons are the cells of your nervous system and you have a ton of them in your brain, but you also have them in your heart and in your gut. Your nervous system is your portal to the world. It's the door through which the world enters, really, and from which you communicate with it. Now, your nervous system has two sympathetic and parasympathetic. The sympathetic is revved up and even stressed out, and the parasympathetic dude is chilled out and relaxed. And regardless of the speed at which we are currently living our modern lives, we're actually meant to be in that chilled out nervous system much more than the revved up nervous system. Like 95% of the time, we're meant to be chilled out. That may sound like a lot, but it's really where all the good stuff is. Now. When I was growing up, we didn't have to pay much attention to our nervous systems. The world was simpler and we could regulate ourselves more easily. If someone bothered you, you could find a way to pull away. No one was saying mean things online because there was no online. The news wasn't coming at us 24, 7. Phone calls weren't even picked up by answering machines until I was 12 years old. There were only three channels on TV and all the stores were closed on Sundays, which sucked. But in a very real way, it allowed us to shut off from the outside world regularly and even automatically. So being alone was really being alone. And we were forced to tap into our imagination and spacing out and all sorts of things like play in order to handle those down times. But now the world we live in is downright overstimulating. So if your nervous system is your portal to the world, there's a lot of stuff vying to get through that portal from all directions 24, 7. So whereas managing one's nervous system wasn't really a thing back in the day, now it's downright necessary to grapple with this issue. In fact, I think it's imperative that we learn how to shift into that lower gear to practice it and to embrace it. We need to reacquaint ourselves with privacy and that world within. And this is not just about surviving our modern atmosphere. In this lower gear, we rest, we heal, we feel more love, and we experience more creativity. It's the place that we play, slow down, and appreciate life itself. Luckily, our mission here at Sleep Magic is exactly that. To shift down into the parasympathetic nervous system and to encourage all of us, one another, to do that even within the day.

Discover what it's like to live from a relaxed place.

Relaxation is a practice, and it can be learned, refined, and deepened. So let's detach from the world tonight and let ourselves chill out.
Guided Meditation Voice
Dude.
Jessica Porter
So get yourself in a safe and comfortable position and let's begin.
Guided Meditation Voice
Allow your eyes to close easily and gently bring your awareness now to your breath.
Jessica Porter
You don't need to do anything fancy with your breath.
Guided Meditation Voice
Just bringing your awareness to the subtle movement of your breath is all we need because we're bringing the awareness. We're lassoing the awareness and just focusing it, even for a moment. And everything is slowing down and you are coming home to your breath. You are coming home to your body. As your body is beginning to relax already feeling heavy on the bed, sinking into the mattress. Feel so nice. Good.
Jessica Porter
Now I'd like you to bring your.
Guided Meditation Voice
Awareness up into your eyelids for a moment and imagine that your eyes are feeling tired, heavy, sleepy. And as you allow this heaviness to really take over your eyelids.
Jessica Porter
I'd like you to accept the suggestion that your.
Guided Meditation Voice
Eyelids are so heavy and relaxed that they simply will not open.
Jessica Porter
And now I'd like you to test your eyes to make sure they will.
Guided Meditation Voice
Not open by wiggling your eyebrows while.
Jessica Porter
Your eyes remain closed.
Guided Meditation Voice
And this is just a game. You're just pretending.
Jessica Porter
But pretend now. You cannot open your eyes. Wiggle your eyebrows.
Guided Meditation Voice
Good. And now this lovely heavy feeling in your eyelids is spilling down your face. And your cheeks are becoming soft and relaxed. And your jaw is letting go. And your lips feel softer and relaxed. And now that wonderful heavy feeling that you have around your eyes is spilling back into your brain. Imagine it spilling into your brain now like a bucket of relaxation being poured over your brain, warm and heavy. As your brain lets go and lets itself soak in relaxation.
Jessica Porter
You find that.
Guided Meditation Voice
Your head is feeling very heavy on the pillow. And that feeling is good. It's a feeling of floating, releasing and allowing as you surrender, surrender to this time of day, this time of release. Half the world is letting go right now. So you Allow yourself to let go. And that lovely heavy relaxation is moving down into your shoulders now, pouring down into your shoulders. And all the muscles of your shoulder are softening, releasing. And all of the responsibilities you carry on those shoulders are falling to the floor. And you can pick any, all of them up tomorrow morning. For right now, your only responsibility is to yourself and to letting go as that lovely heavy feeling moves down your arms now, all the way down your arm, into the palms of your hands and your fingers. And your arms are feeling nice and heavy. Heavy. Good. And if you find you're still aware of any sounds going on around you, you in your environment, as you hear those sounds, you allow them to take you deeper and even deeper into relaxation.
Jessica Porter
They're just vibrations, and as they're passing.
Guided Meditation Voice
Through your body, you are going even deeper. And that feels so good as the sound of my voice takes you deeper and deeper. That lovely heavy relaxation feeling is moving down your back now like you're floating in some warm pool, softening all the muscles of your back from up near your shoulders all the way down to your pelvis and your buttock. The back of your body becoming soft and melty and warm. Now that relaxation is moving up through your body, up into your torso, where it feels soft, gentle and expansive. Your chest is feeling soft as your rib cage opens and releases your belly feeling relaxed and comfortable and at peace as that lovely heavy feeling that began in your eyelids is moving down your legs now, going from your thighs to your knees, down your calves, into your feet. Your legs are feeling very heavy, and that's good, because your leg legs are on vacation as you go deeper and even deeper, letting go. Imagine now you're standing in a room. It is round and clean, and in the center of it is a comfortable recliner. On the walls of this room are seven windows going all the way around in a circle. It's late evening and the sun has set. But the noise and the activity of the modern world continues buzzing outside those windows. Imagine now that you take your phone from your pocket or your purse, this device that connects you to so much of the world. As you hold it, notice how it.
Jessica Porter
Feels in your hand.
Guided Meditation Voice
Imagine now that you are gently turning it off, all the way off. And as the screen goes black, this portal to the world is closing. Just for tonight. The screen is dark and you feel still because with that simple gesture.
Jessica Porter
You.
Guided Meditation Voice
Are telling your whole body it's time to rest. It's time to come home to myself. And now you place your phone in.
Jessica Porter
A drawer and close it you can open it in the morning, but for.
Guided Meditation Voice
Now, your phone is off. Quiet and apart. Imagine now that you settled down in.
Jessica Porter
The recliner in the center of the room. And you relax.
Guided Meditation Voice
You bring your awareness to your breath. And with each breath, you're sending a signal to your nervous system. Slow down, slow down.
Jessica Porter
Slow.
Guided Meditation Voice
Down. And like a pool of water.
Jessica Porter
Settling.
Guided Meditation Voice
The ripples are fading. If this is new for you, it may feel a little strange. But it is safe to come home to yourself. Half the world is resting too, in their own bodies, coming home to themselves. So you are allowed to come home, too. And you are here. Only here. As you look out all around you through the seven windows, peering out unto the world, you decide to go even deeper into this home inside of you. And one by one, the shades are lowering slowly, gently.
Countdown Voice
7, 6, 5.
Guided Meditation Voice
Each one falling into place.
Countdown Voice
4, 3, 2.
Guided Meditation Voice
Closing out the noise. Closing out the light. The space around you is growing quieter, more peaceful, more private, More yours. And now the final shade, one is closed. With all the shades down, the room feels very peaceful and calm. Like a cocoon of stillness. Safe, secure. Your nervous system is slowing down as your body relaxes. The rhythm of your heart is softening. And your breath is becoming deeper as you give yourself permission to stop, to be human, to simply be. To simply be. You simply are. As you rest in this presence, in this being, something is shifting. The darkness is becoming fertile and alive. And the room is transforming into a nourishing place as you sense a warm energy rising from the earth. And the whole atmosphere is becoming soft. As the warm energy moves right through you. You feel a wave of acceptance moving through you. I accept myself unconditionally. I accept my strengths. I accept my weaknesses. I accept my humanity. And the warm energy moving up from.
Jessica Porter
The floor is now light.
Guided Meditation Voice
Light moving up through you. Your inner being is light and expanding. And you are lighting up the room from the inside as the walls and the windows melt away and you rise. And you are now in a new, nourishing space. A beautiful spot in nature. The sky is royal blue and the moon is rising. The air is fresh and cool. You take a deep breath. It's filled with the scent. Damp earth. You see a canopy of trees arching overhead. Their leaves are moving gently in the breeze. Silvery beams. Beams of moonlight filter through them, dappling the ground with light, shadows and moonlight dancing side by side. You breathe this in, and the forest is breathing with you. As you walk through this beautiful place, your awareness feels heightened. You feel the cool grass under your feet. You hear a soft stream nearby, trickling over smooth stones. The sound is steady, rhythmic, like the pulse of the earth. You reach out and feel the rough texture of the bark of a tree. You hear a bird shifting on a branch. Every sensation is rich and grounding and real. And this beauty is feeding you, filling your heart.
Jessica Porter
Reminding you that you are.
Guided Meditation Voice
A part of this great web of life. You feel it in your chest, a warm connection. You are nature. Your body is the earth. Your breath is the wind. Your blood is the river flowing. And you are reborn to this natural self. You sit down at the base of a tree and close your eyes, soaking in the sounds and the smells, the sensations. They are pouring into you, filling every cell.
Countdown Voice
With ease as you go deeper.
Guided Meditation Voice
And even deeper, feeling so. So calm and peaceful. So conn to the natural world. The ground becomes a bed and the tree becomes a shelter. As the moon continues to shimmer on the soft earth.
Countdown Voice
Sa.
Guided Meditation Voice
And you are back home inside yourself. And you find yourself coming back home more and more. More. And it feels so good, so full. As you drift and float.
Countdown Voice
It.
