Hi, I'm Jessica Porter and welcome back to Sleep Magic, a podcast where I help you find the magic of your own mind, helping you to sleep better and live better. Thank you everyone for being here. You know, I do this podcast all the time and I really think about it a lot. And I just want to thank you all for being here, for listening, because it means you're investing in yourselves, you know, investing in your inner self. And I think the world these days, it's weird, man. And it's like we're being kind of pulled apart by technology and pulled from one another and even pulled away from ourselves, our core selves. So I think it's really important to stay in touch with our internal worlds in whatever way we can. So thank you for being here and doing that with me and reminding me and all of us how important and real that is. Before we get started, let's hear a quick word from our sponsors who make this free content possible. Hey, Sleep Magic listeners. So here we go. I think we all probably wrestle with some version of self sabotage. Whether we actively get in our own way or just simply slow down our own growth or our own expansion, we may experience self sabotage as a form of protection. It protects us from disappointment or increased responsibility or the risk of failure. But as I've been thinking about this topic for the purposes of of a hypnosis script, it occurred to me that the reasons that I may hold myself back don't actually matter. I mean, understanding the causes may be enlightening to some extent and perhaps even satisfying, but the reasons why don't actually bring about any change. They don't change my wiring or move me in the opposite direction. In the opposite direction. The movement away from self sabotage is achievement of one's goals. Whether that's winning, getting what you want, or simply feeling better. It's letting yourself hit the target that you're not letting yourself hit. And this brings us to a very important principle in hypnosis. You see, the subconscious mind reinforces whatever you offer it or show it. So focusing on problems just compounds the problems. It reinforces them. Even if you're saying to yourself, but I don't want that problem anymore, I don't like that problem. Still, all the subconscious mind sees is the problem. So in order to change, you have to focus on what you do want, not what you don't want. You need to see the new direction, the solution. Engage the subconscious mind in the solution and move toward it with confidence. And then, as with any new behavior, you rinse and repeat, stepping into the solution again and again, feeling all the sensations and emotions that come with it, developing the new wiring and strengthening it. So tonight we'll be using some imagery that evokes a sense of achievement in almost everyone's subconscious mind. We're going to imagine hitting a bullseye of a target, because bullseyes are pretty universal symbols. We've seen them on tv, in movies, cartoons, read about them in books. We may have even played games that involved bullseyes or even shot actual arrows ourselves. To aim an arrow at a target and shoot it in the bullseye is to achieve, to win. And if you want to overcome self sabotage, you need to practice achievement and get acquainted with it and finally to relax into it so it just becomes normal. Because you can be achieving any and all of your goals all the time. It's just about creating that new wiring and relaxing into it. One last thing. If any of this imagery is not your thing, remember you won't be aiming a real arrow or intending to do anyone any harm. These are symbols, but they're powerful. And as you play with them in your subconscious mind, you will be directing your life in new and positive ways. So tonight we practice achieving, winning, succeeding, and let's have some fun. So get yourself into a safe and comfortable position. And let's begin. Allow your eyes to close easily and gently. Welcome back to your body. To your body. Becoming nice and relaxed on your bed again. If you've been Listening for a while. And many of you have. You've been practicing this moment, practicing this, letting go so many times. And patterns within your body and mind have been established and are running automatically now, just with the initial prompt. And as you go deeper and deeper and allow your body to feel more and more relaxed on the bed, I just want you to give yourself an imaginary pat on the back for doing such a nice thing for yourself, for finding this gear inside yourself of letting go, slowing down and nourishing yourself. Good. So I'd like you to bring your awareness now up into your eyelids. And let's imagine that your eyelids are feeling heavy and sleepy and comfortable. As they become heavy and even heavier. Let's imagine that your eyelids are so relaxed that they will not open. And now I'd like you to test your eyes to make sure they won't open by wiggling your eyebrows. Or while your eyes remain shut. And this is just a game, we're pretending that your eyes can't open. So wiggle your eyebrows. Great. Well done. And now this wonderful, delicious heaviness in your eyelids. This is the same relaxation that you will soon have throughout your entire body as you take yourself deeper and deeper and deeper. So in a moment, I'm going to ask you to take a nice, deep breath. And on the exhalation of that breath, I'd like you to imagine that wonderful, heavy feeling in your eyelids moving back into your head and then sort of whooshing down, down your whole body like a waterfall of relaxation, all the way down to your toes. So let's take a nice inhalation. Then as you exhale, allow that relaxation to move all the way down into your toes. Just imagine. It doesn't have to be perfect. And now we're going to do it again on your own time, take a nice deep breath. And now as you exhale. Oh. Just imagine that relaxation moving all the way down through your body, all the way down to your toes. As your body becomes so nice and relaxed from the inside out. Good. You are directing your mind, you are directing your body as you go deeper and deeper. And whenever you feel like it, we'll do it one more time. Nice deep inhalation. And now allowing the relaxation to move all the way down from your head down deep into your toes, just flowing all the way down your body. Good. As your arms become nice and heavy on the bed, allow them to be heavy, letting go. The day is done, and your head is sinking further into the pillow. As the muscles of your face release and relax, you notice that your shoulders are softening, releasing, and anything you've been carrying on those shoulders during the day has fallen away. Let's just imagine your whole torso softening, relaxing, finding its perfect position on the bed tonight as the muscles of your belly release and relax. And any tension you may have been holding in your belly during the day has let go. As you are going deeper and deeper already, easily, effortlessly. And as your body is relaxing, your mind is relaxing. And as your mind is relaxing, your body is relaxing, your pelvis becoming heavy on the bed, the muscles of your legs letting go, surrendering to the end of the day. As you bring your awareness to any sounds going on around you, and you simply let them in. And as the sounds come through you as vibrations, they're taking you deeper and even deeper. Good. Good. As the sound of my voice is also taking you deeper and deeper. Imagine you are standing at the edge of a quiet clearing. On its edges, the trees are tall, motionless but alive, holding space for something about to happen. The air is clean, crisp, full of possibility. You're standing in front of an open stretch of grass, and at the other end is a simple round target. It has crisp white circles and a clean red bullseye at its center. You are here to hit the bullseye with an arrow. You may not have done that before, and that's okay. You may be used to hitting the outer circles or not hitting the target at all. Perhaps you're used to arrows flying down into the grass or off to the side. It doesn't matter, because tonight you will hit the target and experience who you are. When you hit the bullseye, you will feel the feelings you have when you hit the bullseye. You approach. As you examine the target, notice yourself relaxing as you look right into the bullseye, seeing the red color. Red is a powerful color, full of energy. Allow the red to penetrate your mind and allow the red to enter you. Achievement has energy, propulsion. It has its own vibration. So as you touch the bullseye, you feel the energy of achievement. Any resistance you may have had to that energy in the past has disappear. You and the bullseye are one, and it feels. You step away from the target now, moving back several yards. You don't need to be too far from the target, just a distance. That works for you. Tonight you are here to succeed, to practice succeeding. You hold a bow in one hand, and your other hand holds an arrow. Your tools are made of whatever you want to imagine tonight. Maybe they're wood or metal, plastic or bamboo. These are symbols in your subconscious mind, and you get to design them. The arrows represent your desires and the bow is your ability to achieve them. You have a quiver of arrows hanging across your back because you will be shooting several arrows tonight. Life is full of goals, and we are moving toward them all the time. Some goals are little, like making your bed, and some are big, like completing a project or building a healthy relationship. As you practice hitting the bullseye again and again, you will feel comfortable achieving all of your goals, big and small. Success will become your new normal, a new pattern in your body and subconscious mind. You look down at. The arrow in your hand is long and elegant, with faux feathers at one end to help it fly straight. This arrow represents a desire you hold in your heart. You don't have to know which desire it is, but perhaps something is coming up for you, something you'd like to achieve. As you hold the arrow in your hand, notice what desire feels like. Allow yourself to have a desire. What does it feel like to want something? As you hold the arrow, allow any old thoughts or feelings you may have about wanting things to bubble up and pass away. I am allowed to want things. I am allowed to achieve things. Now balance the arrow against the the bow and lift them both up. And pull back the arrow connected to the bowstring. The string is flexible, but also very strong. It offers resistance, and you must use your strength to pull it back. How does it feel to be preparing an arrow? Notice what's coming up for you. Allow the feelings to come up. Notice them and let them pass. If you've shot arrows before that didn't hit the target, you may feel old feelings of embarrassment or disappointment. Nervousness may be arising as you anticipate the unknown. No matter what they are, allow the feelings to move through you. These are old feelings, old patterns, and they're here to be released and pass away as you allow them to move through you. Because tonight you are hitting the bullseye and you will experience new feelings. You feel your feet on the earth. You square your shoulders, you lift the bow, and you let the tension build. In the bowstring, you close one eye and focus on the target. Now you are aiming directly at the bullseye, your arms taut, your body fixed, your mind focused. This is a powerful stance. How does it feel? You are wanting. You are aiming. Allow yourself to relax in this position as you become comfortable in this stance. I am allowed to want things. I am allowed to seek things. I am allowed to succeed. If resistance is coming up, allow it to rise through your body. Feel it and let it go. These are old feelings. Old patterns. And as you relax into this stance, they fall away. Your focus settles on the bullseye. Softly, easily. You are relaxed. The arrow is pulled back. Your strength is in the pulling, in the preparation. And then you release. The arrow slices through the air and lands right in the bullseye. You bring your bow down and look at the arrow in the bullseye. Just look at it. Notice how it feels to hit the bullseye. Let yourself be with the arrow in the bullseye. Allow the energy to move through you. New energy, new patterns, new feelings. I hit bullseyes. I hit bullseyes. I hit bullseye, bullseyes. I'm allowed to want, I'm allowed to seek. I'm allowed to succeed. As your mind and body celebrate experiencing the feelings of achievement, new patterns being born. Well done. And now we repeat, you have just installed new patterns in your mind and body. And every time you repeat them, they become stronger. You pull another arrow from your quiver. You place it along the bow. You lift the bow. You aim at the bullseye. Notice how good it feels to aim. You pull back on the arrow and the bowstring as the arrow slides along its little ledge, one arm pushing while the other arm pulls. This is the work you do to achieve your goals. Your effort, your commitment. I am allowed to want. I am allowed to seek. I am allowed to achieve. As you release and it hits the bullseye right next to your first arrow, notice how you feel. If any old feelings are coming up, allow them to bubble to the surface to pass away. And as you relax, taking yourself deeper and deeper, the feeling of achievement arises. As you enjoy this feeling of achievement, let it move through you and strengthen these new patterns within you. And it's becoming normal now for you to succeed, to achieve your goals. And achieving your goals feels so good. And now you take a third, third arrow from your quiver. As everything slows down even more. And as you place it across your bow, you are going deeper and even deeper. You lift the bow and pull back on the bowstring as you aim at the bullseye. Aiming feels good. And you smile as you see the red of the bullseye. And you and the red are one, with one arm pushing and one arm pulling. You put in effort. You channel force. And it feels good. I want things. I seek things. And I succeed. As you release, it hits the bullseye right next to your other arrows. Notice how you feel. It feels good to succeed. And your success supports the success of others. Your success helps other people succeed. Your success is a win for everyone in your life, whether they know it or not. It's time to rest now so that these patterns settle in your subconscious mind as you replay them again and again subconsciously because they feel good and you will notice that you are achieving things more easily, finishing tasks, accomplishing goals, hitting bull's eyes big and I hit bullseyes, I hit bullseyes. I hit bullseyes because achievement feels so good. You find you listen to this recording whenever you need to to feel the joy of achievement and strengthen these patterns in your subconscious mind as you bring your awareness back now to your body, feeling so relaxed and heavy on the bed as you go deeper and deeper. And the archery range you were practicing on is getting very small now, small enough to fit into your heart and your mind, fitting into your body because this is where it lives. And from now on, every time you see the color red, you will feel the good feelings of achievement because you hit bullseyes. SAM.
Podcast Summary: Sleep Magic: Guided Sleep Hypnosis & Meditation
Episode: Conquering Self Sabotage | Relaxing Sleep Hypnosis
Host: Jessica Porter
Release Date: May 20, 2025
In this episode, hypnotherapist Jessica Porter delves into the pervasive issue of self-sabotage, a common challenge many listeners face. Jessica begins by acknowledging that self-sabotage can manifest in various forms, such as hindering personal growth or impeding the achievement of goals. She emphasizes that self-sabotage often serves as a protective mechanism against potential disappointment, increased responsibilities, or the fear of failure.
Jessica Porter [04:45]: "Self sabotage is a form of protection. It protects us from disappointment or increased responsibility or the risk of failure."
Jessica explores the underlying reasons behind self-sabotage, suggesting that while understanding these causes can be enlightening, it doesn't directly lead to change. Instead, she posits that focusing on what one desires to achieve is more effective in overcoming self-sabotage.
Jessica Porter [05:30]: "The reasons why don't actually bring about any change. They don't change my wiring or move me in the opposite direction."
A key principle discussed is the importance of engaging the subconscious mind in solutions rather than problems. Jessica explains that concentrating on problems tends to reinforce them, even if one consciously desires to eliminate these issues. Therefore, shifting focus to desired outcomes and visualizing solutions is crucial for creating positive neural pathways.
Jessica Porter [07:15]: "In order to change, you have to focus on what you do want, not what you don't want. You need to see the new direction, the solution."
Jessica introduces the use of universal symbols, such as hitting a bullseye, to evoke a sense of achievement within the subconscious mind. This imagery serves as a powerful tool in hypnosis to instill confidence and reinforce the ability to attain goals.
Jessica Porter [09:50]: "Bullseyes are pretty universal symbols. To aim an arrow at a target and shoot it in the bullseye is to achieve, to win."
The core of the episode is a guided hypnosis session aimed at conquering self-sabotage through visualization and affirmation. Jessica guides listeners through a serene, imaginary setting where they practice hitting bullseyes with arrows, symbolizing the achievement of various goals.
Relaxation Phase:
Jessica begins by leading listeners into a state of deep relaxation, encouraging them to focus inward and prepare their minds for the hypnosis session.
Jessica Porter [12:30]: "Allow your eyes to close easily and gently... feel all the sensations and emotions that come with achievement."
Visualizing Success:
Listeners are prompted to imagine standing before a target and successfully hitting the bullseye. This repeated visualization reinforces the feeling of success and begins to overwrite old patterns of self-sabotage.
Jessica Porter [16:10]: "When you hit the bullseye, you will feel the feelings you have when you hit the bullseye."
Affirmations and Reinforcement:
Throughout the session, Jessica incorporates affirmations such as "I hit bullseyes" and "I am allowed to succeed" to solidify the new, positive behaviors and beliefs in the subconscious mind.
Jessica Porter [25:00]: "I hit bullseyes because achievement feels so good."
Integration Phase:
The session concludes with integrating the imagery and affirmations, ensuring that the feelings of achievement and success become ingrained in the listener's subconscious.
Jessica Porter [35:20]: "From now on, every time you see the color red, you will feel the good feelings of achievement because you hit bullseyes."
Jessica wraps up the hypnosis session by encouraging listeners to allow the new patterns of success to settle deeply within their subconscious minds. She emphasizes that these positive changes will make achieving goals feel natural and effortless over time.
Jessica Porter [37:50]: "These patterns settle in your subconscious mind as you replay them again and again subconsciously because they feel good."
Jessica Porter's episode on conquering self-sabotage offers a comprehensive approach to overcoming internal barriers through guided hypnosis. By focusing on positive imagery and affirmations, listeners are empowered to build new, supportive neural pathways that facilitate the achievement of their goals. This session not only aids in improving sleep quality but also fosters personal growth and self-improvement.
