Hi, everyone, I'm Jessica Porter and welcome back to Sleep Magic, a podcast where I help you find the magic of your own mind, helping you to sleep better and live better. Thank you so much for being here. I just want to talk about some people who've let us know that they're listening, like Daniela from Brazil, who's recovering from burnout. Elise, who's 14. Also someone named Blue 3Y10V3R. You know, one of those weird names says that I'm going to imagine it's a she. She's always struggled with getting to sleep since she was born, but thanks to Sleep Magic, that has changed for the better. She also asks us to give a shout out to Bridget, who's just started secondary school. So, hello, Bridget. We heard from Luca in the uk who says he's been listening to Sleep Magic for years now, and yet he's only 11. So we started really young. I love that he says Sleep Magic really helped me silence certain thoughts and help me get a good night's sleep. Thank you, thank you. Thank you, Luca, for letting us know. And finally, Lauren wrote. She's a massage therapist and she sometimes struggles with clients who can't relax. So she's found that using Sleep Magic, she started to see people making more progress on the massage table, going deeper and deeper into relaxation and really receiving the massage.

Even the sound of the word is great. It's a perfect example of onomatopoeia, like a word sounding exactly like the thing it represents. Rest is long, kind of horizontal and soft like a comfy mattress.
B
Rest.
A
But I think our culture has a weird relationship to rest. I mean, we let babies do it and old people and sick people. But when we are in the middle of our lives, our most productive years, that same rest sounds like a cop out or free pass or a loser choice weakness. And yet, rest is the yin to the yang. Of an active life. The balancing mechanism. Rest is where we heal, reflect, and digest our big active lives. It is from rest that we are renewed and grow and create the next chapter of our lives.
B
Rest is the best.
A
Let's start a resting club. Yeah.
B
Oh, wait.
A
This is a resting club.
B
Yay, rest.
A
So we're going to rest.
B
Tonight, we'll be doing a body scan.
A
That will give permission to every part.
B
Of you to rest.
A
So get yourself into a safe and comfortable position, and let's begin.
B
Allow your eyes to close easily and gently. Here we are. It feels so good to let go. I'd like you to bring your awareness to your breath now, just for a.
A
Moment.
B
Just tuning in with your breath, Bringing your awareness back home.
A
To your.
B
Body, back home to this gentle metronome of the breath. Now bring your awareness to your forehead.
A
Imagine if there are any little furrows.
B
Or lines in your forehead.
A
And as you take a nice, deep breath.
B
And as you exhale, imagine a warm, smooth hand gliding across your brow. Every stroke of the hand taking you deeper, every release drawing you further into peace and calm. Bring your awareness now to your eyes and let them rest back in their sockets, heavy and soft, ready to drift into your dreams. Imagine the tiny muscles around your eyes melting, softening, letting go. As you allow your eyelids to become heavy, heavy. You accept the suggestion that your eyelids are so heavy they will not open. And now, accepting that suggestion, I'd like you to try to open your eyelids.
A
By wiggling your eyebrows.
B
While your eyes remain closed. So you're pretending that you cannot open your eyes. Just pretend as you wiggle your eyebrows. Good. As you go deeper and deeper into relaxation, behind your eyes, deep in your midbrain, is what we call the third.
A
Eye.
B
A powerful energy center in the middle of your brain. And as you relax, even your third eye is letting go. As you bring your awareness to your cheeks now, and they become soft and heavy. And you allow your jaw to release just slightly so your teeth part. Feel that space opening between your teeth. Your tongue resting comfortably in your lower jaw. And as your jaw releases even more, you are releasing even more deeply into yourself or deeply into relaxation, into your bed. It feels so good to be here. So good to be resting. As you bring your awareness to the muscles around your lips, your chin, even up near and around your ears, Every tiny muscle of your face softening, loosening, relaxing. As you bring your awareness up into your scalp. And imagine the crown of your head glowing with warmth. A soft, golden wave spreading out through every hair follicle, releasing Every little point of tension, every tiny muscle.
A
At the.
B
Base of each hair relaxing you, taking you deeper and even deeper. And now you feel your entire head so heavy as it sinks into the pillow, as your awareness is moving slowly down to your neck. As you bring your awareness to the front of your throat, allowing it to relax, all that energy releasing. And any pressure you may feel to communicate in the world is disappearing as your throat relaxes. And you bring your awareness to the back of your neck, to the muscles.
A
That have been working.
B
So hard today. And now they are letting go. As the weight of your head surrenders completely. And you move down to your shoulders. Now the shoulders. Imagine them widening, spreading, melting down your.
A
Back.
B
As you drop any baggage you carry today. And you go deeper and even deeper. And as your body is relaxing, mind. Mind is relaxing. And as your mind is resting, your body is resting. As your awareness moves down now to your upper arms, softening, releasing, feeling heavy. And now your elbows relax and your forearms are unwinding like soft threads of silk. As you bring your awareness to your wrists now, small joints loosening, opening, resting. And now into your hands. Your palms warm to open as each finger lets go. Thumb, index, middle ring and little finger, one by one. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. As they fall asleep. And perhaps you notice a gentle tingling in the fingertips, a gentle energy flowing.
A
Out.
B
Taking you even deeper as you drift and flow and dream. And any sounds that may be going on around you are taking you deeper and deeper as you allow those sounds to simply move through you as vibrations taking you deeper and deeper. Just as my voice is taking you deeper and deeper. As you bring your attention now to your chest, you notice the wave of your breath again, rising and falling, rising and falling, rising and falling. And below that rhythm, your heart is beating steadily. And with every beat you are taking yourself deeper and deeper as you feel gratitude for your heart and its rhythm, its constancy, its devotion. And this feeling of gratitude softens you even more. And your heart is holding feelings. It has intelligence and memory. And as you are relaxing, any tension that may have built up around your heart.
A
Is dissolving.
B
And disappearing. And now it's gone. As you go deeper and even deeper, as you bring your attention lower into your abdomen, allowing your belly to soften, it's safe to expand as your awareness moves down to your pelvis. Now your hips releasing, your hip flexors opening like a flower in the sun. And there is so much power in your lower body, so much energy. It too has intelligence and memory and feelings. And as you go Deeper and even deeper into this delicious rest. Any tension you may have been carrying in your lower body is dissolving and disappearing. And now it's gone as your lower back sinks, vertebra by vertebra, deeper into the mattress. Bands of muscle unwinding, softening as you go deeper and even deeper as your buttock becomes soft and relaxed. And with every breath you are sinking deeper into rest. Down, down, and easy as you bring your awareness down into your thighs. Heavy muscles, strong muscles now feeling soft. Your quadriceps, your hamstrings, your inner thighs, all unwinding, letting go as your knees relax and your calves are melting. Shins releasing every moment, taking you deeper and deeper into this sweet surrender. Your ankles now feeling soft and weightless as they rest. The heels of your feet are feeling heavy, while the tops of your feet feel soft and relaxed. The soles of your feet are softening, your arches, releasing. And every toe is relaxing one by one. Your big toe, second toe, third and fourth. And now your little toe letting go. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. As you notice a gentle tingling spreading across your feet, as if they're dissolving into the space around them and you are drifting with them, feeling soft and expanded and free. And now your entire body.
A
From the.
B
Crown of your head down to the tips of your toes, is relaxed, resting. And every breath is taking you deeper, making you softer. Here in this safe place of rest, you are free. And you return here whenever you want to. Because this rest is inside of you, always here, as you drift and float and dream.
