On today's show we're going to explore some big T tok updates. Some of this stuff I'm looking at the tools we're getting now and you think of social media five years ago and it's just a totally different world. So Instagram has a feature that's now coming to TikTok with a different name. We'll talk about that. Also some new AI features that are pretty mind blowing in the grand scheme of things. And if you do paid ads on TikTok, there's a really important update we got to talk about on today's show. Some of you will need to take care of this before the end of the year. Before we get into 2026, my name is Jerry Potter, host of the Social Media Marketing Talk Show, A Social Media examiner product. We break down all the latest social media news and what it means for marketers like you. Well, Instagram has their broadcast channels and now TikTok has bulletin boards. So from, from all I can see, it's a pretty similar feature, but it does look like they've done a nice job laying this out. So in case you're not familiar with the broadcast channels on Instagram and Facebook, it's basically a new in app broadcast channel for creators and businesses to share updates and exclusive content with their followers. Now, the best part about this feature is it has push notifications included. So we'll talk about that here in just a second. But what you would go to do is go into your TikTok account and you'll be able to create one of these bulletin boards, give it a name, of course, usually about whatever the type of stuff you're going to advertise on there, or for some businesses it might be, you know, the insiders club, the VIP club, something along those lines. And you also get to have a little toggle whether you want to show it on your profile or not. From a marketer's perspective, I think we all want it to show on our profile, of course. Next step after that, I would think make a couple of videos about it just to get some people there. Broadcast channels on Instagram that nobody engages with are, you know, they get pretty old pretty fast. So I think this is one of those things that it's worth building up in the beginning, especially while they're brand new. If you've been around social media marketing like I assume you have, we all know new features get really high priorities of views and visibility and all of that right at the beginning. So essentially, once somebody chooses to follow your bulletin board, they'll get notifications in their inbox whenever you post and then they can react to those with emojis. So there's no replies, there's no chat. It's not a high maintenance thing. So if you are managing a big TikTok account, you're going, last thing I need is another thing to worry about. It's not high maintenance. You just basically put this stuff out there. Obviously you still want it to be curiosity inducing so that they click on it and visit your bulletin board. And you want it to be something that they get excited about so that they do of course, engage with it as well. Now, the good news is this is rolling out globally. The bad news is it's not for all accounts right now. It is for accounts with at least 50,000 followers globally. Okay, so that is the minimum threshold. But if you have that already, you might already be set up and you can start using it right away. And again, as we know, people who are the early adopters on these things that eventually become the standard always get a lot of extra benefits by jumping in there. Of course, they've got all of the safety features built in, like mute blocking, reporting, you know, all of that kind of stuff. So be aware of that as you're putting out your messages on your bulletin board. All right? TikTok is also unveiling a bunch of new AI tools to simplify content creation for brands and marketers. So first one we want to talk about is called Smart Split. Pretty good name. It's one of those names, once you hear what it is like when I saw it I was like, oh, I can't believe nobody's used that yet. It's called Smart Split and it's an AI tool that automatically clips captions and reframes long videos into shorter TikTok ready clips via TikTok Studio Web. Now, I didn't have a chance to play with this yet, but I can tell you there's obviously a lot of tools out there these days that will take your long form content and turn it into shorter clips. And even the ones that aren't very good are getting really, really good. So the fact that this is built into TikTok natively is pretty, pretty powerful. Another one is called AI Outline and it'll basically it's designed to help you jumpstart content ideas by generating video tit hooks, hashtags and then six part outlines. Don't know why they said specifically six park outlines, but six part outlines based on a prompt or a trending topic. So imagine being able to go in and look at your TikTok account and then have this AI outline give you ideas for titles, hooks, hashtags, all tied back in to trending topics or whatever you put in the prompt in the beginning. So you can customize these outlines of course, before recording and uploading the content. This is one of those things that I was looking at and it was, it's one of those things, you know, they may be, this is ages me, but it's like, oh, what a world we live in. You know, if you've been around social media for a bit or even five years ago, you remember, you know, this was not anything that was built in here. And now across platforms we are literally seeing idea suggestions, ways to create it, AI tools to help you organize all within the individual apps on the different platforms. So I mean, after some of the updates we're talking about today with TikTok, I don't know, TikTok may have moved to the forefront. I was thinking YouTube before with some of the stuff they've been doing this year. But yeah, we'll see. I'll have to think about that some more. But there are multiple updates around this. We'll tell you more about these here in a second. But AI outline is now available to accounts in the U.S. canada and select regions. But of Course, they're planning to roll it out everywhere. There are some more AI tools getting added. I'll tell you about here in just a second. But have you ever felt like you're the only marketer who doesn't have it all figured out? All right, some more AI video creation tools now from TikTok. They have launched first of all, image to video. So you can upload a photo, describe how you want it to move and then it'll turn it into a video. So think about all the stuff that you have on your camera roll and you're like, oh, I took this picture for LinkedIn or Instagram or Facebook maybe and I need something for TikTok. Well now this is an opportunity to turn that photo into a video that can go on TikTok. So I think that's really cool. So it'll take it from a still image to a dynamic clip, an actual like animated video. This is another one of those AI technologies that just keeps getting better and better. Another one that they have is text to video. So basically this is generative video. You type a description of the video you want in the box and AI will generate it for you. And then again you can use it right there in TikTok. I've been playing with these in on multiple platforms and it's unbelievable how good these are compared to even a month or two ago I was making a video about how when algorithms are confused about who your content is for, it's really hard for them to recommend your content to the right people because they just haven't figured out who the right people are. Right. If a brand uploads too many different types of content. And so I wrote a prompt and I can't remember exactly what I said, but it basically made this robot sitting at a computer scratching its head, looking confused and like almost squinting and staring at the screen. I was like, oh my gosh, this is better than I even imagined. So, so we have image to video, we have text prompts to video and then also AI transition. So this is interesting. I haven't seen this in action, but you describe how you want your first frame to transform into the last frame so you can basically enable creative morphs or journey style visuals. So if you think about how much effort went into transformation videos and things like that, I'm kind of wondering now like if it was a, off the top of my head, a makeup tutorial. Let's say could you put on your makeup or sorry, let you take a photo without makeup and then put on the makeup and basically have a video that started with you, no makeup, and then the makeup appears, right? Like it's like back to back. What would it generate in the middle as part of the creative morph? Anyway, really interesting concept and it'll be fun to kind of test those out as well. But as I said earlier, what a day and time that we live in. All of this stuff built into the actual apps to create stuff. Now I know it can feel overwhelming sometimes on the other side, like, oh my gosh, there's so many tools. I felt that way a lot with AI video, even though I make a lot of videos, but now occasionally I think, oh, it'd be cool if there was a video that showed this as I'm saying this in this line and. And all of a sudden I can type the prompt in and then go about whatever I was doing and then, you know, however long later it pops up and the video sitting there and I have it. So in my experience, in case it's helpful for you, is not to force myself into this stuff unless you've got time to play, then by all means, go play and have fun. But when you know about it, because you listen to the social media marketing talk show, for example, when you know about it, then when the idea pops into your head, you don't go, oh my gosh, we have to hire a fancy computer animation team. You go, oh, I can just go and Put a prompt in TikTok and it'll make it for me. All right, an important ad update. If you are running paid ads on TikTok, TikTok is going to be phasing out its custom identity option in early 2026. So previously this allowed advertisers to run campaigns without linking to an official TikTok profile and apparently they're all done with that now as we're waiting for TikTok's official sale and full time approval here in the U.S. i wondered if this was maybe tied into that somehow. I don't know. But obviously they're looking, you know, have everything, I think be as clear and on the up and up as possible. So going forward, all new campaigns have to be launched from a verified TikTok account. So for agencies or brands that are currently operating ad only identities on TikTok without a profile, this is going to be a shift where you have to establish your organic presence on TikTok in order to continue advertising. Now it doesn't necessarily mean you got to publish a bunch, I don't think at least nothing in here says that. But you do have to actually have a profile that people can go to and check out. So if you are currently running ads, you do not have a profile for the brand that you're running ads for. Something to get cleared up here and set up a profile for those brands in the next couple of months. They didn't give an exact like date where it's like, okay, this will not happen at all, you know, until you make this update. They just said early 2026, but might as well take advantage of it or take take care of it now so you're not worried about it next year or take care of it for your clients now so they're not worried about it next year.
