So you had an idea. An idea that turned into a small business. It's a freeze dried ice cream shop like astronauts eat Cool. And now you have to hire actual people to work there and pay them on time and do lots of paperwork and provide benefits. Wait, this is a lot. Oh, and make sure everything is compliant. I don't know how to do any of that. I just like making space ice cream. Then let justworks handle the payroll, benefits and hiring stuff for you. That's much better. Podcast Host
Welcome to another edition of the Social Proof podcast. We have some more really successful people here.
Rod
Let's go.
Podcast Host
This is good. Rod and Chi Chi, what's going on? You know, I was thinking to myself, like, why they call you Chi Chi? But I was like, leticia.
Leticia
Leticia.
Rod
I didn't get it neither. Where Chi Chi come from?
Leticia
My mother has called me that since I was a baby. No one even knew my real name was Leticia till social media came out. Everybody back home was like, who's Leticia? I'm like, that's my government.
Podcast Host
Well, welcome to the show, y'.
Leticia
All.
Podcast Host
I'm excited about this conversation.
Rod
Appreciate it.
Podcast Host
Primarily because you are running a really successful business and I don't know how y' all do it.
Rod
Being married, you know, it's hard.
Podcast Host
I'm Gonna need some advice.
Rod
100%.
Podcast Host
Starting out, I would have my wife do certain things, but if she don't do it the way I am accustomed and I say something and you get offended, I'm like, this is what I do, though. You know what I mean? I'm not trying to. I'm not trying to knock you. Knock you. But in a sense, you don't really know what you're doing right now until
Rod
you can't say that. Dude, I can't say it out loud.
Leticia
It's the tone.
Podcast Host
I can't understand why you're, like, fighting me on this. This is when we were younger, Mary. But how. Okay, how do we run a business together, first off?
Leticia
Well, first of all, I think. God keeping the center. And I think because we have been together so long and we are a good team now, we gonna kick and scream along the way. We disagree on 90% of the things,
Podcast Host
and we definitely do 90% of the strong one.
Leticia
But ultimately we have the same vision. And at some point, whether it's a fight along the way, we are still both aligned with creating the vision at the end. So we're focused on the result and not just the tit for tat. Or I can do this and you can do that during the way, if that makes sense.
Podcast Host
Got it, Got it.
Rod
But we also have a lot of times where we disagree and it spews over into the house every day for sure. Because in the day for us, it's the tone.
Podcast Host
Yeah. Yeah.
Rod
And it's like, baby, it's work and we in business. I don't. I shouldn't have to always feel like I gotta. I just wanted to tell you exactly what we need to get done.
Leticia
But then you also sit with me when we get done.
Additional Guest
Yes.
Rod
I always say, make sure how you talk to him. And I'll be like, baby, I'm just trying to tell you what need to be done with business. But she always saying, I'm still your wife. You still gotta understand that business and no business. And it be so tough.
Podcast Host
Does she ever leverage the. You know what I mean? Her leverage the magic box?
Rod
You know, they gonna leverage that box married.
Leticia
And listen, it's really up to you what door you wanna go through. You're right. If you feel like you want to say it this way, okay, fine. But you know that closes this box.
Rod
It should never close.
Leticia
So if you want to keep the box open, it's the willingness to adjust. It's like, okay, can I reword this in a way that's not my Homeboy. Yeah. It's just. It's really up to you what you want to do when you get home.
Podcast Host
But here's the challenge though. In business, things need to be said the way they need to be said.
Leticia
No.
Rod
Yes, they do.
Podcast Host
Yes, they do.
Leticia
I'm your wife. So at home, things need to feel the way they need to feel. So that always has to be considered. I come before the rest of that. So you have to always protect that when you're in business with your friends or whoever else. I get that. It's different. I'm still your wife. God is still requiring you to handle me a certain type of way. And that may take you acting out of your normal self or your business minded or wherever you come from, that's fine. But if you want this box, guess what? You gonna have to use the ball. You need your benefits. I cook for you. I give you the only thing you can get from me. So you gonna have to talk to me nicely.
Rod
So that might be the biggest struggle in business is agreeing or when I know she's definitely doing something dead wrong. How in which I communicate it to her is probably the biggest challenge for sure.
Leticia
100%.
Podcast Host
So y' all been together for how long?
Leticia
September will be 18 years. 18 years. We got together in 2009.
Podcast Host
How'd you meet?
Leticia
At the strip club Onyx.
Podcast Host
Really?
Rod
The love story of Onyx. 100%.
Leticia
Went to the Waffle House after our first date.
Rod
Went to the Waffle House after our first date. And I don't think I let her go ever since.
Narrator/Advertiser
You don't care.
Rod
She tried. She tried to run away from her.
Leticia
She tried to break up with him a few times.
Rod
She tried to fast me for 40 days. That didn't work.
Leticia
He was for the streets.
Rod
That didn't work.
Leticia
I had to. I gave him an option. You can have you or you can have me, but you can't have both.
Podcast Host
What do you mean?
Leticia
Because he was. He was for the streets. He was a first round draft pick. He's the only child. He's used to these yes girls. They're just happy to be with him. And he doesn't have to plan a date for them. They're just happy to be with him type of girls. And I'm like, I don't care about none of that, you know? So he was outside, he could do. He was used to being able to do whatever he want and the girl be at home waiting for him regardless of how he dogged her out. And I just didn't work for me if you want to be outside, then you can stay outside. I'm not going to change you. I'm not going to make you do anything. But also, I can just like, you can have anybody you want. So can I. You're not my. I can have this. What do you want to do?
Podcast Host
Okay, so I want to hear the story of the beginning. Because I think this is going to even lay a foundation for how we work together. So I'm have you start out with the story of how you all met.
Rod
Gotcha. So what happened was I seen her outside of the club. She was waiting on valet, and I was leaning on my car, and I saw. And I was like, hey, Lama. I said something, but I was like, you wanna know me? I'm a good catch. And she kinda gave that little smile at me. And I was trying to get her to come in, but she wouldn't get up. And then all of a sudden, a few girls that I knew that was hanging out at the club too, came over there by the car. And all of a sudden, I looked back up, she's gone.
Podcast Host
Wow.
Rod
So, honestly, this time was a hot spot. So I think it was a few nights later we was in there and I seen. I was like, I'm not letting you get by. So I grabbed a hand, I was like, man, I need your phone number. You can't leave me tonight. And then all of a sudden, I told my homeboy, who I roll with to leave me. So I told her, I need a ride home. And she, where your car at? I'm like, well, I rode with my man, but he struck out on me, so I need to ride home. And then before that, I'm like, let's go to Waffle House first. So then we vibe by the Waffle House. But the kicker was when we got to Waffle House and this is our first time hanging out, she don't know me from Adam and Eve. You know, you order that All Star special waffle with the eggs and the grits, the waffle come out. She take my waffle and cut it up for me without me saying anything. Buttered it. Then she took the ketchup packs. This really blew me. And opened the ketchup packs and set them next to me.
Podcast Host
What?
Rod
So I was so confused. It had me confused. You know, I'd have been out here for a while. So I'm confused on what's happening right here, but I'm loving every last bit of it.
Podcast Host
I bet.
Rod
So at this point, I was like, oh, she's the one. I can't oh, yeah. You don't get this guy at Waffle House. We wasn't at Ruth Chris. This at Waffle House. So when she did that kind of treatment, I just knew, boy, you know that feeling. We looked like, hey, man, she might be the one. I got that feeling at that point.
Podcast Host
Oh, okay.
Rod
And she lived up to it.
Podcast Host
Yeah.
Leticia
And I went to drop him off that night.
Podcast Host
Hold on, hold on. I want to hear yours. I want to hear your story of getting up to Waffle House.
Leticia
Yeah, okay, so. Yeah, so when we got to the. When we got to. You said up until we got to Waffle.
Podcast Host
When y' all first met. Give me your experience.
Leticia
Do you remember? So that first night when he tried to holler at me, I was sitting down, but I'm not getting up to go to him. You got. You need to come to me. Let's just make that correct. So. So again, there's a group of girls came out, started screaming his name. So my car ended up coming out. So I just got. And I left.
Podcast Host
And first off, real quick, what were you doing at Onyx?
Leticia
I just moved to Atlanta, so we was partying, was hanging just outside. Yeah, we were just outside. So that was it. So then he. So he's gone again. It's a hot spot in Atlanta. So we back out a couple nights later, and then this time inside the club. Now, I see him, and I was attracted to him off bat, but I wasn't gonna go up to him. But I did give him the eyes. I walked past, he could see me, see him type of situation. And then he grabbed me, and then we started talking. Then that night. Yes. He gave me the story about his homeboy leaving him. So I was like, all right, bet, whatever. I heard you. I know the setup. But I'm down, so I'm down for the cause. So we go to Waffle House, and I'm just. You know, I'm fresh out the hood my damn self. I'm a single mom at the time. I'm not really pressed for all the extra stuff. I'm still not, honestly. So I'm like, all right, bet I love me a good waffle. Got me an all star, too. But me doing the cutting his waffles and buttering his stuff, is that. You gotta say, I'm a single mom to a toddler. I think My daughter was 3 at the time. I'm naturally just used to serving someone before myself. So as the thing that he thought was such a big deal is I was just being normal because I'm just used to that, taking care of a toddler. So I was like, okay. So I didn't even think it was a thing. And then that night he was like, okay, let's ride back. He had a penthouse down the street. So I rolled up to the drop him off and he was like, oh, you want to come up for a nightcap? And I was like, nah, I gotta get home.
Podcast Host
Whoa, whoa, hold on one second. That was just off. Ripped the invitation, right? We just had.
Rod
We had Waffle House chilling like four hours though.
Leticia
We were there for four hours.
Rod
So I was like, man, you want to come up for a minute? You know, she ain't seen the spot. So I just wanted to, you know, razzle dazzle a little bit.
Podcast Host
That's the reason you got the spot?
Rod
That's the reason I got the spot. I ain't say I hope uno would have went down the first night, but in the day I just wanted her to see the spot.
Leticia
Uh huh, sure.
Rod
And she was like, she was like, nope, I gotta go home. And she drove up. I said, wow, she left me here
Podcast Host
standing more attractive to you.
Rod
That was even better because now she put, you know, her child before herself. So she was selfless in that manner too. So I was like, oh, yeah, she might be a good one.
Leticia
Yeah. And I literally days away, I had just turned 24 at the time.
Podcast Host
Oh, wow.
Leticia
So for sure, younger, but yeah, that's how that worked out. And then he been stuck by my side since.
Rod
For us, it's hard, man. I've been in Atlanta since I got out of college. Went to the league. So we used to women always wanting from us.
Podcast Host
Yeah.
Rod
You see what I'm saying? Especially when they're attractive, you know, it's how we treat them, what we do for them. You never get the opposite, you know. So when you finally get somebody to be like, man, I don't want nothing from you, I just want a butter's waffle, I'm good. This and that. It's like, oh, oh. She don't even know the filet mignon deal.
Podcast Host
She don't even know where the filet is.
Rod
She don't know where champagne was out back then.
Leticia
Not that I didn't know what it was.
Rod
I mean, you really wasn't into none of that. You know, one of her things. So, you know, in Atlanta, everybody want to go eat night bougie. She wasn't on none of that. Give me a pina colada. Virgin pina colada.
Leticia
I didn't drink. I didn't even Drink then. So even going out, like I'll take a virgin pina colada, please. No whipped cream.
Podcast Host
So I guess him giving like y' all dating. Obviously he got money, he's been around. Were these experiences impressive to you? Like.
Rod
Oh my gosh, no. Miami.
Podcast Host
We going to Miami.
Leticia
No, absolutely not. I was definitely. I didn't date broke dudes. No. He was not my first baller if we're gonna say that. Absolutely not. No. That wasn't. Wasn't impressive. I was attracted to him. I didn't. I couldn't even tell you why. I've not that I've never been a clingy type. Most guys I've dated, it took them weeks for me to even say yes to a date. And even back then being younger, it'd be a group date. Before I went on a one on one date. I was always like that when I saw him. I just was crazy about him. And I've never just experienced that. I've never just been on some one on one. Okay, get in my car. I'm like, nah, stranger danger in you. But with him it was just different. I just never experienced that. Like I was crazy about him from the beginning.
Podcast Host
And we're going to get into your business. But this is so intriguing to me because you said he was outside and I guess you would admit she wasn't the only person that you had at that time, but sure not. What did that, what did the off boarding process look like?
Rod
Oh, it was tough because at that time I was dating another girl at the time.
Podcast Host
Like seriously, seriously, seriously dating. Yeah.
Rod
But it was one of them situations. On paper she looked like what I supposed to be with. So I was trying to try that because in the day she was successful in the business world. She was like CFO of major airline company. And she was young, doing her thing. So in day for me, graduated from Florida. Like she was one of the ones who was like on paper she fit the opposite of what I'm used to.
Podcast Host
Yeah.
Rod
So I wanted to try, but it didn't have me. It didn't make me want to sit down. I was still out in the streets hanging. We used to go to honest. All the football players shoot pool all the time. I wasn't in there really for the strippers, more for the hanging. We gambling on the pool table all the time. So that's what we was in there every day in the off season. That's what we did. So I tried it, but it didn't keep me from pursuing other women.
Podcast Host
Yeah, for sure.
Rod
But Then when I met her, I was like, oof. She got the look, she got the personality. She from the hood. She's not about all this stuff. Cause I'm not on. None of that. Don't ask me to buy you. No bag, no car, none of that. I'm not that guy. So in a day, it took me a minute to get out of the situation. During that time, she was like, I'm not finna sit around here. Then that's when she just disappeared on me.
Podcast Host
Oh, yeah. So you're trying to. Obviously, when she asked the question, you know, you dating anybody, you lying, right?
Leticia
For sure lied.
Podcast Host
So, I mean, how long was it between the night you met her and when you were like, okay, all in about three weeks.
Rod
When somebody snitched on me, how long was it?
Leticia
So we were. Let's say this. When we got together, we was like, stuck like glue every day, all day for weeks. And then I found out. I don't even know how I found out, but I found out he had a whole girlfriend. And it was even like it was serious. I was a whole thing. So he denied it and he lied and he tried to keep that going for a while. It was back and forth, back and forth. So this went on for months until a point where I was like, if you outside, I'm outside, and at this point, I'm done. Like, I'm not. This is where the. It's me or you. Like, you can have me or you can have you, but you can't have both because you is used to having everybody, whoever you want me is. Meaning I don't play all of this. If we're going to be together, you're going to be in the house at this time. You're going to come at this time.
Podcast Host
This is the house.
Leticia
This is different. I have a daughter. I have a little bit. I'm not. My application process, if I'm going to take somebody serious, looks a lot different for me, even at a young age. So that's was like, that was your. That was your choice. So he would say, yeah, yeah, yeah, hype me up. Hype me up. I'll be full of it. Of course. Lie to where. Finally I was like, yo, I'm not even doing this. No, I'm not gonna say it no more. I'm not saying I'm out no more. I changed my number.
Podcast Host
Oh, wow.
Leticia
That wasn't blocked back then. So I changed specifically for him, Specifically because of him, changed my number. I was like, I'm done. And I wasn't Even saved back then. But I asked God, I was like, I'm so obsessed with this man. I was like. And I can't leave him alone. Even though I keep trying to. And I'm not even used to. I can't recognize myself during this. So I was like, if he's supposed to be in my life, put him in my life the way you intended. If he's not, just free me of this obsession. I felt like I got with him because I can't control it. So I changed my number.
Podcast Host
You describe yourself as obsessed.
Leticia
I was like, it was like a drug. Like it was crazy.
Podcast Host
I knew what it was.
Leticia
It was wild. And I'm not. I don't know what it was. It had to be God. Cause I was like, no, I'm not doing this. So anyways, I let him go. During the four days I let him go, I didn't call him, I didn't reach out to him. My number was changed. I started dating other people. It was all of that. So on day 41, he hit. I called him just to see if I was over it. So I called him and he wanted to link, so he came over to talk. And then I started dating this guy at the time. And usually back then you like put a code name for a guy, you know, even his name wasn't his name on my phone. But this guy particular, I had his name in my phone for some reason. Rod happened to be over there the day when he wanted to talk. And he called my phone and his full name came in, came up and Rob was like. It was. It was a whole thing. We got into it.
Podcast Host
He left.
Rod
He knew who it was 100. I knew it was nobody. I knew who it was though.
Leticia
Anyways, was it.
Podcast Host
Was it somebody like you knew you had a personal relationship with him or you just
Rod
a hoop at the same gym together? So he was one of them guys.
Leticia
A lot of the guys hoop together.
Podcast Host
Yeah. Yeah.
Rod
So I knew.
Podcast Host
Was it a celebrity or something or.
Rod
No, he was probably somebody trying to play overseas or somebody. Cuz he was a tall dude, but he's trying to play overseas. But I knew who he was.
Podcast Host
Yeah.
Rod
So we knew each other casually.
Podcast Host
Yeah.
Rod
So when she. When I started out, like who the hell that is? And she was like, oh, that's who I'm. So she. She pros. Oh, that's who I went on a date with the other night.
Leticia
I said, okay, yeah, but he went crazy. I'mma kill everybody.
Rod
I shut that down immediately.
Leticia
But after that he. He didn't leave he didn't leave my house.
Podcast Host
But how do you have the right to shut that down when you're still in your.
Rod
No, I was going. I was going after that.
Leticia
After he saw that. Cuz he was still in the situation. After he saw that, he refused to leave my house. Like, I want him to pull up. Like, I'm not leaving. Like, I think you went to Target to go get draws. Because I'm not leaving. I'm not even going home. So it was a whole thing. But then we end up. We're not moving in together. Right after my lease was up in a few months, so we found a house.
Podcast Host
So this is from. From the day at Waffles. This is only like a few months.
Rod
No, it might be close to about
Leticia
seven, eight months at least at this point. So it was like on and off, back and forth throughout this time frame.
Rod
Wow.
Leticia
Yeah, it was crazy.
Rod
So it was a real story. But it's so funny because everybody, honest, I was cool. All the managers, GMs, everybody. So they was like, man. Cause they saw us meeting, how we was hanging and she was in there with me. They were like. But it's a real love story. We would have never thought.
Leticia
No.
Rod
Eighteen years later, they like, oh, y' all still together? Oh, yeah. We would have never saw that.
Podcast Host
Yeah, it's crazy. Was. Did y' all ever. In the. I guess the six years before you got married. Right.
Rod
Because dated for four years.
Podcast Host
Four years. I'm sure there was some turbulence, but was there any in and out with other guys, women?
Leticia
No, not during that. I think that was more of us just trying to find our middle ground. We were so hot or cold. We were either crazy about each other or ready to kill each other. I think we wanted to be together. We didn't know how to be together. I'm that he's. He got that hot head, but so do I. I can have whoever wants, so can I type of energy. Both of us are super strong. And I, as being a single mom, I was very much on my own. Like, you can't tell me nothing, you know what I'm saying? And I think him being who he was and who he come from, I'm standing on what I say too. So having two super strong personalities try to come together and make it work. That was a fight for years.
Rod
Well, you know, it was fight. Cause I would never live down my situation and what I put her through.
Leticia
Oh, for sure. Yeah. I kept that up for a long time.
Rod
Then the insecurities from that. So probably our first few Years, first three, four years. The whole time it was me just trying to recover from that and let her know I'm serious. Cause in the back of her head, she always was feeling like, are you still. Do you wanna go back?
Podcast Host
You can't blame him.
Rod
Yeah, you can't blame him for it. But that's probably the biggest struggle was that.
Leticia
Yeah. Me getting over the selfishness and the lack of integrity. I think during that time. Because I feel like you didn't know me for nothing.
Rod
I didn't know you.
Leticia
Exactly. Which is why you shouldn't have lied to me.
Podcast Host
But, I mean, I'd be trying to.
Rod
She la. She deserve all the truth. It's like how.
Podcast Host
Yeah, you gotta develop. You gotta develop that level. You know what I mean? Of. We're gonna tell you every. We just get to know each other. What are we doing?
Rod
And you definitely telling me everything.
Leticia
He told me he loved me after less than two weeks. And he told me I was his wife after three days. So at that point you should have told me. Cause you feel like it's that serious. But I feel strongly.
Rod
Felt that way. Yeah, for sure.
Podcast Host
I feel strongly about you. And I just figure I'd tell you.
Leticia
Well, that took a while to let go of. For sure. A lot of therapy.
Additional Guest
For sure.
Rod
A lot of therapy. A lot of throwing glasses and all kinds of stuff.
Leticia
I used to destroy stuff back then. I'm more calmer now that I'm saved. But back in the day, I flipped this whole table.
Podcast Host
Did you always. Did you always. Did you have anger issues growing up, or was it.
Leticia
Yeah, I used to fight all the time. Yeah, I did.
Podcast Host
Why?
Leticia
I think for me, as a child, just felt powerless at home. So if I was out and somebody tried me, I think I was overcompensating. Why did you feel powerless at home? I just think my home life was. It was different. I didn't. I got put out at an early age. I was on my own. So I became a mom super young, too. So I think my upbringing and being on my own since I was younger just created a lot of anger and frustration. I had a lot of unforgiveness. I had a lot of things I had to heal and grow from in order to, like, find a healthy way of handling conflict. Because back then you said something wrong then. I was swinging.
Podcast Host
I. Was your parents together?
Leticia
No.
Podcast Host
Who were you living with?
Leticia
My mother and her husband. We. I didn't get along with him at
Podcast Host
all growing up, but was there friction between them two in the household the whole time?
Leticia
Because of me. So then, yeah, he. Well, I guess. I don't know. And not because of me, but I didn't make it any easier. I've got brothers and sisters, and when my mom got married, it was like, oh, you have to call me dad. And I'm like, I'm not calling you Dad. I don't even know you. But my brothers and sisters would. So I looked like the rebel or the one that was just disobedient. So we had a lot of issues because of that. And at one point, he was like, it's me or her. And she chose him. So I moved back to Jersey and started studying with my grandmother. I think I held onto so much resentment and anger because of that earlier on, that I just was always fighting and always getting in trouble.
Podcast Host
Did you have a relationship with your dad?
Leticia
I didn't meet him until I went back to Jersey. I looked him up in the Yellow Pages. Yeah. And he's a. You know, he's a cool dude, but he ain't a father. Like, to this day, he just. It is what it is. But, you know, all is forgiven today. But I think back then earlier on, not knowing how to deal with those emotions or not learn how to forgive or just humanize my mother in her situation or anything like that, I acted out a lot.
Rod
And that probably was our biggest struggle, because I come from mama's boy. My mama's the sweetest thing ever. Don't raise her voice. Don't show no emotion. She just the best. So I come from that Southern living. Dad went around. But in there, I was a mama's boy to the heart, so I never seen that fire like that.
Leticia
Yeah.
Podcast Host
So you were looking for someone like your mom, which makes sense to nurture him.
Rod
Having that strong.
Podcast Host
I'm doing this woman like, whoa, this weird.
Rod
And then you act out. She call you all kind of names. Cussy ass. You like, hold on. I was like, who cursed? You know, I'm so confused who you calling? Like, it was crazy. I was like, who you think you talking to? And so it was hard for me to understand that because it's like up north that up north, Jersey women, they different from the south, you know, so it was a different type of passion she had. Especially when you try. Then I'm the one I love to come from, so I can talk noise and not feel offended. So if you say something crazy to me, I got a rebuttal for it. But when I say my rebuttal, oh, it went to her heart. So she felt it and then she reacted and acted out.
Leticia
Yeah, every time. But I dropped out of school in 11th grade. I ended up putting myself back in school, and I had to graduate at alternative school to just be able to graduate on time, which is where I end up getting pregnant right after high school. And then I left Jersey pregnant with my daughter, who's now 21 and with a trash bag full of clothes. And that's when I moved to the south and just started my life over.
Podcast Host
So no relationship with the father, none of your child. But this is probably shaping how you see all men.
Leticia
100%.
Podcast Host
Ooh.
Leticia
Yeah. So it was a lot.
Rod
Yeah, it was a lot.
Leticia
And at that point in my life, I was like, nobody's who they say they are. You know what I mean? I didn't trust men. I didn't believe in men. My daughter's father wasn't around. My brother's curse. My father is no good. My stepfather was no good. So for me, I've never saw a positive example of a man. So trusting one was a hard thing. And feeling loved was something I struggled with. So to love fully outside of my own kid, you know, it was. That was a hard one for me. Like, I didn't believe in it, which is why every guy I dated was like him. Y' all are all outside. Cause you can't paint. You can't trick me with the picture. Which is why I was so heartbroken, which it took years because I didn't mean to fall in love on what I did. To me, he was a typical hot boy that's outside side. I already know what I'm getting. So when I fell, like, head over heels in love with this man, I'm looking like, oh, my God. What did I just do? Why is this happening? It was. It was a lot to take in. So, yeah, it was a process.
Podcast Host
Yeah, clearly. Yeah. When y'. All. Okay, so we're serious. I want to get into, like, the profession of what you were doing. So you. You got drafted into the NFL?
Rod
Yes.
Podcast Host
How long. How long were you going to play?
Rod
Seven years.
Podcast Host
Seven years. So at that time, before y' all got married, you were in the league? That was his job?
Rod
No, I was done when she got
Podcast Host
out of the draft.
Rod
Cause I got drafted in 01, so me and Big and I got drafted in 01. She didn't get to 11 to 09.
Leticia
Yeah.
Rod
So I was transitioning out of the league by the time.
Leticia
Yeah, so she was just finishing.
Rod
I was just finishing.
Podcast Host
So you was in the league for seven years and then What'd you do
Rod
after that, what I got into? Well, at that time, I owned a car dealership. I had a little businesses I was doing, but then after that, I was just trying to figure it out.
Leticia
He told me when he met me he was a car salesman.
Rod
Yeah, that's what I told. I did for a living. So at that time, I was transitioning. So then we got together. I was just basically just figuring it out. I had little businesses going on, but I really didn't have what I'm finna do.
Podcast Host
When I first started, were you okay financially at this time?
Rod
No, at that time, I was doing real estate, real heavy when I was in the league. So I was down in Peachtree City before. Is Peachtree City what it is now? I had bought. I forgot the name of the main street. I had bought 500 acres of the main street. So I was developing two different subdivisions. Like, one was 400. Wow. Single family homes. The other one was like 300 town homes. So I was in it big. But then that's right when the market crashed in 07. So we was already in phase two, phase three. And I'm partnered with Wachovia at the time. So they my business partner in the real estate game. So we like 50, 50 partners. So when the whole crash happened, I used to meet with the same three financial people every month. When that situation happened, I came in that meeting, there was four new faces in there, and the only thing they wanted to talk about was calling them loans. And I'm like, buddy, we might be paying 120,000 interest right now, and you try to call these loans. I looked at my financial advisor, I said, buddy, let me tell you something. Go take as much money as you can from wherever you can find it from. And they just got to see. Because we can't pay it, we deepen this. I'm thinking if we're gonna have a conversation about how we gonna restructure it to make it make sense. But at that time, they was just calling out, putting all the chips on the table, saying, hey, man, we can't be a part of this no more. Wow. Because the real estate game was at that time, it was over for them. They was just all trying to scramble for any inch of money they can get from everywhere. So at that point in time, they just came out the deal total and was called a loan. So I was fighting with that. Probably from 07 to 00:12 dealing with that.
Leticia
Yeah.
Podcast Host
Oh, my gosh.
Leticia
So it bled open.
Rod
So it was a lot. Because at that time, I'M thinking I'm doing everything right. I mean, everything. I got the right people lined up. I got the right financial institution behind me. So I think I'm on the right track. So the bubble window bus, who. Where I might be today in the real estate game, who knows? But because of that, it was just experience I had to go through, man. So she met me at that time. So she didn't even know it because that time I'm letting my penthouse go. I'm just trying to figure it out. And then.
Podcast Host
So she's seeing this stuff like kind of go away.
Rod
She's seeing it unfold after we got quickly.
Leticia
Yeah, yeah.
Podcast Host
And what were you thinking at the time?
Leticia
It wasn't. You know, I come from home, beginnings. To me, it's not about a man go. I think there's a difference between a man going through hard times and a man being hard times. Right. Clearly he's successful in what he does. Clearly he's determined. Clearly he's the 1% making it to the first round draft pick alone. So he has vision, he has worth ethic. So you can work with that. To me, it's always going to be character over talent anyways. It doesn't matter how many times we fall down. I done been down. How we getting up and having someone to get up with. So to me, it was never about the money or what you have or what you don't have. We'll figure it out. To me, the love is there, the character's there. I'm crazy about you. It doesn't matter. And I'd rather have someone who has my back and that's loyal and we got dead nothing together than to have somebody that has everything who is dogging me out.
Rod
Yeah.
Leticia
So to me it was like, we'll figure it out. And we did.
Podcast Host
And what were you doing professionally?
Leticia
I was bartending. Yeah, I was bartending and I was working every day of the week to get it, whatever we needed. And that's what I did.
Podcast Host
So were these like real candid conversations of hey, honey, I ain't really got it like that. You got to work some extra shifts.
Leticia
Yeah.
Podcast Host
That was it down that bad or.
Rod
No, she didn't. No, she. Because at that time, even when it was going bad, I still was good. It wasn't gone.
Podcast Host
Yeah.
Rod
But, you know, savings, all the other stuff still. All my retirement, that ain't. That's still there. But at the time, just pay the cash. But dealing with what I'm dealing with, they would have snatched probably almost million dollars out of one of my accounts out the gate.
Podcast Host
Took it out of your account, What I'm saying?
Rod
Cause I was private banking with them as well. That's how we got into business together. So when everything froze, they froze accounts. That was in Wachovia. So they hit me. I think it was like 780 cash out of one account. They just got that.
Podcast Host
God.
Rod
You see what I'm saying? So they was just like, man, so you know me, I'm scratching my head like, you like, boy, ain't nothing I can do. But I'm one who's never one who just let stuff keep me down. It's a situation I'm going to.
Additional Guest
Yeah.
Leticia
He was always Super Bowl.
Rod
There wasn't nothing I could do about it. And then point down what I'm feeling. Cry about it now. Where we go from here?
Podcast Host
Yeah.
Leticia
Yeah. But I can tell there was a lot that he had that he wasn't telling me, though. Yeah.
Rod
But she was new.
Leticia
Yeah. And I was. So we were still new. So I don't think he was honest about everything. I think he was still trying to figure out everything, where it was coming from, how to handle it, what to do with it from here. But I don't think. Yeah. I don't think it was in him to just be like, I don't know what to do. Like, as a man, I just don't think he could lay that down, especially with us still being, you know, fresh in the game. But as a woman, I could see it. I know what hard times are like. I know when somebody's struggling. Even if you're not saying it, I can see that you're trying to figure it out, though. So I'm not gonna pressure you or ask you all the questions. I'm gonna just be right here and do what needs to be done and let you. Let you just know that I'm here regardless. You know what I mean? So I think it was. It was something that didn't have to be said.
Podcast Host
Got it.
Leticia
Yeah. If that makes sense.
Podcast Host
So we're obviously now y' all have a med spa. Y' all got a couple different businesses, different states. At what point did we start to figure out, when do we get on
Leticia
this path of togetherness?
Podcast Host
Well, I mean, just business wise.
Rod
Business wise. Well, at the time, probably around the time everything was going on, I got into it business, part of mine, because I was golfing all the time. He introduced me to the CEO of this company called Cumberland Group. So there was a big IT firm. I knew nothing about it, and I Was a hell of a golfer. He got me a meeting with the CEO, we went out, played golf at Cherokee Town Country Club. So it's members only caddy life. So I'm out there striking that ball cause I was good, good. So he was like, rod, I'm gonna hire you. So I got into it at that time making decent money doing it, which I ain't know nothing. He like, if you figure this out that fast, you'll figure that out. So he was like, rod, we could do this. So during that time I was in like account sales or something, but I wouldn't sell nothing. We on a golf course every day.
Leticia
They just hired him. Cause they like.
Rod
So I'm out there just enjoying life. So I did that by three, four, well, almost four years.
Leticia
Yeah.
Rod
And during that time I'm figuring out that even in the tech space, I see a lot of low hanging fruit in the government contract minority space. So one of my partners was a retired vet. So I said, hey man, while I'm in here, let's go get our certified disabled veteran owned small business through you. So we started ZRT Technology. So we started that while I was still working in common group. So when I left there, when they finally was like, raw this over, we done ran the course. We already had that business started. So at that point in time we started chasing government contracts. Got it. And at this time that was right. So I was doing decent. But at that time, that's right. Probably a year before COVID hit. So at that time we was also in medical supply sales. So we reached out to the mail, I mean to the governor's office, introducing ourselves. They sent us to Georgia Homeland Security. They told us, hey, if you can fulfill these orders, y' all got the contract. So me and my business partner, like, let's do it. So I flew out of Miami, met with a few manufacturers who did the gloves, the gowns, the mask, everything they got on board. Cause they seen what we had opportunity. So it was gonna split it with us. We only had to pay them a small portion up front. They was gonna front it till we got paid from the government. So out the gate, we came outta the gate, million dollar contracts rolling. So during COVID I was like, I thought I was in a dope game.
Leticia
But during that whole time I'm in fitness, so I have my own app and I'm doing workouts.
Podcast Host
Training.
Leticia
Yeah, well, but I'm not a trainer, but I, I do online training. So for moms and stuff, I was doing meal plans and workouts and Stuff, but all online with my Total body, which was total body 21 at the time.
Podcast Host
Total body 21?
Leticia
Yeah. It was a fitness app that I had back back then.
Rod
Yeah, she partnered up with a friend, rg, and they built that out, so she had her own app. She was killing it in that game.
Leticia
Yes. I was in the entrepreneur space.
Rod
He wasn't even in that at all. I was over here.
Podcast Host
The government contract, 100% is legal dope
Rod
money, which is a good thing. So once Covid society and everything kind of went back to normal, that wasn't my passion because then I'm not chasing government contract. That's not what I do. But it was great. I still got it to this day. So if anything pop off, we in
Podcast Host
the position to make a move.
Rod
So at that time, she was into that. Then I wanted to be on the product side because I always wanted to own business. I'm always about business. So I love the fitness, the wellness side, but where does it fit? So me, I love supplements. So I jumped into the supplement space, building a relationship with a friend of mine who turned me on to this main factory here in Georgia. And when I went and met with them, they saw how I was in shape, what I looked like, they were like, rob, we will take you on this journey and help you out. So they helped me formulate my first fat burner. So we started out with one, then all of a sudden it went from 1 skew to 17 skus.
Leticia
Yeah.
Podcast Host
Oh, wow. So hold on. Is this like, okay, you're going down this path of getting products and you're still building up your furniture? Was this fitness side? Is this. Is all of this together into one thing? Or it's like you doing your thing, you doing your thing.
Leticia
So. So I was doing my thing and he was doing his thing. But it was still kind of together. Well, it was still kind of of together in the influencer side of the marketing. Because, like, when I first got into the fitness game, everyone, especially social media, everyone was like, oh, you know, look single. That's what sells. That's the best thing. And I was like, nah, I ain't really ain't with none of that. I'm married, I got kids, I'mma showcase that. So as my social media is growing and it's growing super fast, it's. It's blowing up, and he's still on the other side of it. When I first started, Instagram used to annoy him. Like, you always on this damn thing till he started, see. Oh, this real money on this side. So he was like, okay, so his page technically used to be Mr. And Mrs. Gardner, right? Just very corny at this point. But I was like, I'm gonna do my own page because I'm gonna focus on, you know, the meal plans and workouts and stuff like that. I don't wanna argue about what we posting about. So you keep that page. I'm gonna do this page so that I'm growing the whole time. I'm building my social media up, I'm doing the workouts and I'm doing that. He's seeing like oh damn, there's real money to be made over here. So as he's building out the product bucks, I'm still building my influence and she pushed and I'm pushing it like

Leticia
I'm getting behind it. This is what I use for marketing. So. So it was still technically separate, but we still very much was working.
Rod
So from a marketing standpoint, we pushed both businesses. Her skin and her total body. 21 was hers and at that time, G Shred was mine.
Podcast Host
Got it, Got it. But you don't do the app anymore.
Leticia
No.
Podcast Host
Right. And you transitioned to what products?
Leticia
So I started just doing products. Well, no, technically we still had two separate brands because his is more performance and wellness side with the Rep nation, which was G Shred at the time because we had to rebrand it. But then I had Skinny, which was of the products of the detoxes, the waist trainers, sweat wraps, body wraps. It was more, it was more focused on that. So they didn't go together. To me, they were still too separate.
Rod
You came in nutraceuticals and sell that stuff like you can't do, you can't mix.
Leticia
And branding wise, they didn't go together. So I still had that. And it was lucrative.
Rod
It was killing it.
Leticia
It was crazy. But I think, I think the fitness and the detoxes and all that stuff starts to get watered down really quickly in this industry. Everybody got a flat tummy something. So I was like, all right, yeah, I'm cool with it. And the thing about it is God had been on my neck about being obedient and being more one and under one brand with him. But my background, me being a single mom, me coming from where I come from, my own traumas was like, yeah, what's mine is mine and what's yours is yours. I ain't looking at what you got. You ain't looking at what I got. I put on where I need to put in. You put in where you, you need to put it. And I was cool with that. But God had definitely been on me like, this is not what I called you to be. Is this supposed to be one? And I finally was like, okay, I'm just going. It was hard for me. It was hard for me. But he was patient. But clearly, because it's been a long time, but finally I was like, okay, fine, that's what I'm going to do. So I let go of the other brand and I kept the one product that sells like crazy. We rebranded to the formula here in Georgia, and now it's just all rep nation. So that's when we got under one brand.
Podcast Host
So right now, the business. You got a business in Florida.
Leticia
So the same thing with Dynamic 3.
Rod
So when we started telemedicine business in hormone therapy.
Podcast Host
When did you start that telemedicine?
Rod
20. 22. Okay, 22. Yeah, we started that because I was already had the nutraceutical.
Podcast Host
Yeah.
Rod
But I'm also on testosterone and I understand how important that is as men. So I'm like, if I'm gonna take something and something, I'm gonna go ahead and create a business around it.
Podcast Host
How?
Rod
I didn't have a clue. Cause then you gotta have medical directors, you gotta have doctors, you gotta have all this. I didn't have none of that, but I know people. By that time, I called my resources fam. This is something I wanna be in. How do I get connected? He introduced me to somebody. Once they meet me, we hit it off and they were like, rod, we'll be your medical director. We'll oversight your whole entire business. So we created a business, me and my other business partner, and we started an online business. So now I'm hormone therapy and peptides and I'm in nutraceutical. So I'm in pharmaceutical and nutraceutical at the time. And so at this time, we had that. But we have to have a brick and mortar. So you can't just have an online business without an actual brick and mortar to sell.
Podcast Host
To sell pharmaceuticals.
Rod
Pharmaceuticals, you have to have a brick and mortar. So that's what we started in Jacksonville. Because that's where I'm from. My business partner at that time moved down there. So we was just operating out of Jacksonville. Easy, you know, location. It wasn't. The rent wasn't that bad. So we just opened that location up just so we could start selling to office space.
Podcast Host
That makes sense. That makes sense.
Rod
So once we grew that and start pushing it, my wife killing it in a static space. So she's working with all these different spas, bringing, you know, all kind of money to them. And she's killing it in that space.
Podcast Host
Hold on. In the aesthetic space. I think I missed something because I know we were doing the. The raps.
Leticia
So. So because my social media has blown up to what it's had, what it's done, like, even TikTok. I. I gained a million followers in six months on there. So I've got a few million on there. And then I got a meal over in Instagram. So because of my social media growing, what it is, brands want to reach out to me. You know, when you have a certain amount of followers, everybody want to post you or can you post this for them? Could I pay you to do this? Can I pay you to do that? So at that time, and you know, I'm in my 40s now, so I'm like, well, I love Botox and Philly. I love all the things. So I started so working with certain med spots who were, you know, treating me for influence and different things like that. I was bringing them hundreds of thousand dollars a month.
Podcast Host
Oh, wow.
Leticia
Crazy amount. So it was like, at this point we need. I should have my own, you know, so.
Podcast Host
And what was the first product that you came out with?
Leticia
No, I don't, I don't have the product. We buy the products.
Podcast Host
So you're saying I want my own
Rod
med spots, meds, because
Leticia
I offer the services that I get estheticians.
Rod
So we just got a whole staff of nurse practitioners. So for us, I wanted, we wanted our flagship location being Atlanta. We just didn't know we was gonna do it. But then when we put our brains together, I'm like, baby, let's just do the aesthetics and wellness together. So at that point in time, that's when we was looking for probably eight, nine months. I'm like, we gotta have a perfect location. Everybody knows about online. Nobody really know really what we have going on. So we finally opened that location in Atlanta. We gotta show em and let em see and become believers of what we're doing. Cause a lot of people knew, a lot of people rock with us buying from, but they don't. But we so chill that you really don't know what we really doing out here. So once I found that location in Buckhead, you know, we was just like, budget out the window. Let's go ahead and build this out. Make it amazing.
Narrator/Advertiser
Yeah.
Leticia
Redid the whole thing.
Rod
So we added aesthetics and cellular health. So now you can come do blood work, TRT hormone therapy, peptides. And you also could IVs. And now you come in a Botox filler facial.
Podcast Host
Hold on, that sounds like a lot.
Leticia
It's still a lot.
Podcast Host
Do y' all have different people doing different stuff?
Rod
So we are just the owners, but we hire the staff. So I have a medical director, which is three doctors that oversee our location here in Atlanta.
Podcast Host
And you have to hire those three doctors.
Leticia
100%.
Podcast Host
Sounds expensive.
Rod
100%. So when you think about nurse practitioner, nurse practitioner might average almost 200,000 a year. And we got two up and we got two nurses.
Leticia
Yeah.
Rod
And we got an esthetician.
Leticia
And we have esthetician and a receptionist.
Rod
So. Yes.
Leticia
That's a lot.
Podcast Host
Oh, my God.
Rod
Yeah. So we don't do the services. We just have the medical staff. We just the information. A lot of people go through us because they trust us, because we live it.
Podcast Host
So let's say, for instance. Let's say, for instance, you're going to have somebody do Botox is the model. I hire this person and pay them to do what I need to do. Or do you find somebody that's already doing Botox and move them in and then there's a split.
Leticia
Yeah, yeah. So we have. I was what we are. I'm new to owning a med spa.
Podcast Host
Yeah.
Leticia
But my influence and who I am and what we've built is not new. So this is not a beginner. You need to come. Already established. You need to come as a master injector. Already. You already come with your own client base. I'm not hiring someone and just promoting you to figure it out.
Podcast Host
Yeah.
Leticia
So our injector already has a book of business. Business. You know, she's been doing this for a long time. She's a nurse practitioner.
Podcast Host
Finn.
Rod
To do this. They. She was like, I want to go with you.
Podcast Host
That means.
Leticia
So before we even opened the doors, I put out that I'm hiring. And from there we were doing hiring before we opened and things like that, finding out the staff who will be our nurse.
Rod
So certain ones that be 1099 and certain ones be W2.
Leticia
Yeah. So it's different.
Rod
But injectors are more 10.
Leticia
Yeah.
Podcast Host
So our W2 employees is obviously receptionist nurses. And those nurse practitioners, they have to be.
Leticia
It depends. It depends what they're doing because we have. Our injector is a nurse practitioner, but also the person who leads on our peptides and IVs and everything and does your blood work, reads your blood work as a nurse practitioner. So it depends on what you're doing. Our esthetician, as a cosmetologist, she's. That's going to be different because that's just skin. So it's different based off injections and what you're doing.
Rod
So certain ones are W2s, and then we have one injector, like a 1099.
Leticia
Yeah.
Podcast Host
So the services that you offer, like when you are running off the services is this services that these. I don't know what the medical professionals. Yeah, the medical professionals that you partner with already offer that we hired.
Rod
No, we picked out what services we want to offer and we found people
Leticia
to fill in those spots. This is ours they have to operate under.
Rod
So for my wife, she's big on injections and making beauty face, all that. So certain services she want to offer. Now we go find the people and the best people who can do the service.
Leticia
Like, I love getting a head spa. I don't know if you ever heard of head spa treatment, but they like put your head under this thing. They like massage, steam your hair. Guys deal with it. It's the best thing ever.
Rod
We got guys who bald headed who don't even have hair.
Podcast Host
Go do it, bro. When I go get massages, like when they get to, I'm like, yo, just stay there.
Leticia
Yeah, that's the head spot is just that it's one of the, the best treatment. So when I started doing this is I wanted to have a one stop shop. There's no mess about doing what we're doing. We do literally all the things in one place. And it's aesthetically beautiful. Either you go to a med spa and it's super medical field and it feels like a doctor's office, or you go to a headspot and that's all they do, massages and facials. But I wanted everything that I love and embody to be in one place because it's easy to sell and push, promote and market something I love and I'm passionate about.
Rod
So we live this health life for real.
Leticia
Hell yeah.
Rod
So when you come in, it's not you just buying a product, you coming in to go experience with us. So we gonna help you. Whatever your goal is, we gonna help you achieve it through. If it's through nutrition, Building out nutrition plans, doing all your blood work, all your markers, we know we get all of it done and we go off the data.
Leticia
So it's no, do these workouts and follow this meal plan and you'll be fine. Cause that's maybe when you're 15 and 20, but as a grown person, it's different. Our hormones, hormones to change.
Rod
Yeah. So hormone therapy for women, women going through menopause, it's like you don't have to struggle.
Leticia
You don't.
Rod
It's hormone therapy out here. But our people really just don't know. We just ignorant to that game.
Podcast Host
This is my wife. Like, yeah, you ain't got to struggle like this, you know we're not snapping with me for no reason.
Rod
60 year old women is out here on pedestrian estrogen, testosterone. Like they taking these daily just to keep their hormones balanced to where they feel good.
Leticia
The osha. And if anyone has done their research on the O shot, it's everything. You know, that is something you might want your wife to have.
Podcast Host
What is the osha?
Leticia
The O shot is something that help boost.
Rod
It regenerates the tissue.
Leticia
This area here in the box, the
Rod
injections they do in the box, it
Leticia
boosts your tight ends, wet ends, boosts your experience. It does all of that. It makes you want it.
Rod
Like I'm about to bring. I'm actually in the process right now where looking into. It's called a P shot. So these guys out here dealing with erectile dysfunction, which is big because then as we get older lifestyle, a lot of guys, testosterone, super low, super low. That we got ones that you inject straight into the penis. But it increases the vascular flow so it helps with opening the veins up.
Leticia
We do all.
Rod
Getting it back going. So it's crazy. We do all. Yeah, so we all. So we.
Podcast Host
I bet that O shot go crazy.
Leticia
Yeah, it's crazy. The thing about it is, but people don't really know. They haven't heard of it. You know the thing. And when I talk to women one on one or educating them, especially when I go to women's panels and people aren't talking about that. Sex can feel like a job when you've been with a person for a long time or you're tired or your hormones are. We're just not the same as a man, period. We don't have as much testosterone. There's things that can help you with all of that.
Podcast Host
So for the ladies, have you taken the shot?
Leticia
100%. I take, I take this other shot that is amazing. It's a peptide.
Rod
So not the O shot, not the oh shot.
Leticia
That's just one time. You just do that. You can do a couple of treatments but you don't have to do that regularly.
Podcast Host
Well, what's the other shot you talking about?
Leticia
This is a peptide. It's a PT.
Rod
PT141. It's called bromelatide. PT1 141.
Leticia
Yeah. You don't even have to like each other.
Rod
So it's a peptide.
Leticia
That thing will get you right.
Rod
So you know how women as they get older, they just feel like they're not in the mood.
Leticia
Yeah.
Rod
This plays on your receptors in your brain. That gets you in that mood again.
Leticia
He'll be sneaking it in my shot.
Rod
So I know he put it in there. Putting it in her shots all the
Leticia
time, because you can feel the difference immediately.
Rod
It just enhances that all of a sudden, and you just. Back to that little young boy just horned out. You feel that?
Podcast Host
So hold on. This shot is for men and women.
Rod
Yeah, 100%. It's an injection. So it's a peptide. So you just inject it.
Podcast Host
The O shot is just making it more enjoyable down there.
Leticia
Yeah, yeah. Every.
Rod
Yeah, it regenerates that.
Podcast Host
And then the pt. 141. 141. That makes you just want it more. But it doesn't necessarily change the experience.
Leticia
No, well, it just makes you. Well, it helps the experience because the desire is. So you don't want to do it. You're just like, okay, let me do it real quick. That's going to change the experience. But if you really want it, that's going to change the experience, the excitement in it.
Podcast Host
And all. These are shots, right?
Leticia
Yeah. Peptides are injections.
Podcast Host
I. I can't do shots.
Rod
You would do it when you get.
Leticia
I bet you if you need to.
Rod
There's a lot of people who don't know because we don't do it.
Podcast Host
So it's like, especially in my.
Rod
But it's small.
Leticia
That's different. Different.
Rod
That's different.
Podcast Host
But I don't like a shot in my arm, bro.
Rod
No, that's a. No, that's a real big shot. Like an iv.
Leticia
It's a tiny little.
Rod
Tiny. You just pinch a little stomach fat.
Leticia
And our nurses will do it, too, if they order products from us. We have a lot of guys that come in every day to get a shot because they're too scared of giving themselves at home, which is fine. As long as you bought a bottle from us. Our nurses will have no problem giving you a shot anytime you want to come in. We have guys that do that all the time.
Podcast Host
So y' all gotta walk me through. Through what I'm seeing in terms of, like, the health risk of shots and all this stuff, whether it's Ozempic or all this stuff, Right? And people argue that it's not safe. And we're gonna have these, you know, so what do we say to that?
Rod
So. So for me, anytime we talk about regenerative health, we talking about functional medicine to where we're trying to heal the body from the inside, meaning our body heals itself. The argument is always gonna be big pharma's gonna argue that because. Because they all reactive. Meaning once you get sick, we gonna treat it, keep you taking this because you're gonna be sick for the rest of your life. We trying to stop you from getting sick. So even when it comes down To Ozempic or GLP1s, the objective is to get rid of all that body fat, which is dangerous fat tissue. So it excretes all kind of toxins in your body, which gives you chronic disease. So the base for all this is holistic health. So they gonna argue it, but in a day, it's trying to help you not have to go to the doctor. It's trying to stop you from not ca. Cancer, trying to help you from not having heart disease. So they always gonna try to argue what's the side effects, what is the benefits, what side effects we have. It's amino acids. It's the aminos your body already produce itself. Only thing it's doing is concentrating, in a sense that targets receptors, that's gonna trigger your body and the cells to help with your metabolism, to help with healing, to help with regenerating. So for me, we always can say research, and there's research being done over and over. And a lot of peptides are FDA approved and they continue to to improve them because they can't stop it. And they start to understand that. But big pharma try to stop it. Because now if you're not sick, how are we making money?
Leticia
Exactly.
Podcast Host
I feel that. So essentially all of the things that you offer are things that are already in our body, but we're giving a little more.
Rod
If we're deficient 100% because as we get older, our testosterone gets lower as we hit 30. So that's when we stop having the desire. That's when we stop being able to build muscle. That's when we stop having to drive and focus. As men, we get tired because we're getting old. It's like women going through menopause.
Podcast Host
I be getting tired, bro.
Rod
You see what I'm saying? So hormone therapy. So I promise you.
Podcast Host
Oh my gosh, I've really.
Rod
Since we've been over, we've had hundreds of patients, guys come in and get testosterone replacement therapy. Because once they get the blood work, because they're all off the blood work.
Leticia
They always go off your blood work.
Rod
Once it's low, you're not optimal. So you're going to eventually have suffer the side effects of low testosterone. But now when you get on trt, which is bioidentical chemical that we put inject, that's mimicking your same exact testosterone that your Body produces. Now you back to optimal levels. Now you back to the drive, the focus, the energy. And you like, buddy, this has been the best thing I've ever done. But it is something that you gonna have to stay on because your body naturally not gonna get you back to those levels.
Podcast Host
So it's just so you have to stay on it.
Rod
You could come off of it and be back to those levels. But it's like, do I serve a $159 bill for the rest of my life every month to have the benefits, to be able to. To keep functioning at a high level, or do I just go waste it? Because you're gonna spend $159 or $180 doing anything else throughout the month.
Podcast Host
Go ahead.
Leticia
No, go ahead. I was just screaming.
Podcast Host
So are we saying, Does it get to a point where your body gets so used to it, where it stops being effective?
Rod
Well, our objective is to change your lifestyle. All of these things we talking about are tools we use to help us reach a common goal. But the foundation is always gonna be lifestyle.
Podcast Host
We can't through maybe holistic practice, Whether it's food, whatever I can't develop, I'll never get back to that optimal level.
Rod
Really, it ain't enough food.
Leticia
Once it's gone, it's gone. But I think the thing is it
Rod
ain't enough beet juice. You could drink. You might like. We have natural supplements that can help increase your nig, meaning your Testosterone level, maybe 100. But if you're at 200 and you need to be at a thousand or 800, that's optimal levels. Like when you was a young kid, it's never gonna get you there. But you can do it the holistic way. And if you fine with that, it's just your choice. Me, I'm always gonna want to be. I'm 48, finna be 49. I'm Jack Shredded. My energy level's through the roof.
Leticia
Yeah, I wish he'd take her all day long.
Rod
She don't want to sleep in the same room. So me being all my 50 and still feeling like I do, why would I want to choose anything else?
Podcast Host
I like that you see what I'm saying.
Rod
But it's all a choice. But our job is to educate so you can make the conscience and the best decision for you.
Podcast Host
Yeah, sexually, we don't have any issues. With me and my wife, it be just you be tired, tired throughout the day, bro.
Rod
And there's so many ways it could affect it. Don't always be erectile Dysfunction initially, but we be tired. It's like, man, I don't want to do nothing. You want to go. Well, you don't have the. You don't have it, like, the drive
Leticia
to get up and go.
Rod
But now all of a sudden, you start getting on the testosterone. Your levels are back optimal. You eating healthy, you feeling good. You're waking up with all this energy. Now you're like, buddy, what's next?
Leticia
Yeah, he's like, the first to go to sleep and the first one to get up.
Rod
See what I'm saying?
Leticia
Please get me.
Rod
And we talk about. And I'm getting older, and it's not.
Leticia
It's not slowing down at all.
Rod
It's not slowing down. But my lifestyle also reflects it. I eat right. My nutrition is dialed in. Where I count all of that.
Leticia
Yeah, he weighs all his food.
Rod
I work about five to six days.
Podcast Host
And you don't.
Leticia
I do not really.
Rod
She eats right. She just likes.
Leticia
I don't weigh my food. I'm not as strict as he is. Like, eat like. Like 4% body fat. I feel like I should have some body fat. You need some soft areas on a woman. You don't want to be hitting a rock.
Podcast Host
And I think we. When we're at that. That dinner, you're saying, like, you don't work out either.
Leticia
I don't work out as often. I'm trying. I. Look, I said I'm gonna go work out today. I said I was gonna work out after this, but I don't work out as often because building out the med spa. I've just been. We got the keys in September. I've been building it out. I'm running it full time. Still got kids and other businesses going on. I just haven't made it. It a priority. Like, I usually. I do all the cheat codes. I take my fat burn every day. I take my skinny detox. I do my liquid lipo shots that we do it. What do you call it?
Rod
She gonna stay on the cheek. I like to use it. Like, I like to use the cheat code as a tool while we getting everything.
Leticia
I use it.
Rod
She uses.
Leticia
We have a cream that, like, with GHK is great for, like, cellulite and skin tightening. I do the cream. I do the injection. We have all it at the med spa. So I am the walking billboard because I look amazing. I look like I work out all the time, but I just take all the things but. And I don't have an excuse. We literally have a full gym at home.
Rod
So I'll play, but you need to do both.
Leticia
I need to do both. Working out is super important. I just haven't been on it because building this out and being so hands on and I gotta, you know, opening up a new business, especially a brick and mortaring and dealing with people and just, it's a lot. So when I get home I'm like, give me a minute.
Podcast Host
So there's, so there are, there are some cheat codes that can super fun
Rod
if you just do have the work.
Leticia
Yes, absolutely.
Rod
Some people don't like to buy into nobody's want to be. They're like, right, we can't, we can't.
Leticia
But we go on vacation, request the refrigerator, a microwave, he goes shopping before we even get to do anything. I'm like, I'm going to his meal preps, his lifestyle. He weighs everything he eats.
Rod
But that's what I teach. I try to teach the lifestyle because I know that's longevity. If you can sustain this for the rest of your life, you'll enjoy life for a long time.
Leticia
Yeah.
Rod
So it's all about helping people, man. We enjoy helping people. I love what we do. We live it so in the day, every time somebody come in, they done lost 10, 20% body fat. They feeling looking good.
Leticia
Yeah.
Rod
Their marriage is better.
Podcast Host
Yeah, for sure. Yeah.
Leticia
It definitely affects everybody so much.
Rod
Now the kids see it because my daughter, chicken and rice, turkey and rice.
Leticia
My daughter, she's 11, our youngest is 11. We have a 24, a 21 and 11 year old. The 11 year old, she reads the back of labels. Oh, I don't drink that. She uses sugar free syrup.
Podcast Host
She get it from her daddy.
Rod
She got no choice.
Leticia
That's too much sugar. You can't drink that. She'll pray for you if you over there drinking Coca Cola or Pepsi. Like, oh my gosh, I can't believe they're letting you drink that. Do they even care about your life? Like.
Rod
Yeah, especially among African American man. We suffer so much from chronic illness and we die early. So it's like, man, if we can put back a little bit, just. Yeah, you know, we just trying to help.
Podcast Host
Yeah, we got, we going to get to that. We got.
Rod
Look at you. You ready to go?
Leticia
He went to Chico.
Podcast Host
If we come like when we come and we are going to get there, whatever my wife want to do, just make sure you slide some of that O shot in there.
Leticia
I got you on that.
Podcast Host
Going on.
Leticia
I got you now.
Podcast Host
This is dope, man.
Leticia
Yeah.
Podcast Host
Oh, let me ask this question. How do you all manage finances in the business and at home. How do we do that? Are both you all on a salary or do money coming to the house? One account.
Rod
How you doing it do Kind of. We run everything through the business. So my. Our life is a business. I don't even take payroll. Everything I spend is business. So I don't even see anything we do in life separate. So we got financial advisors who. Who do our payroll, do our bookkeeping, do everything. And we spend everything on our American Express cards and they got access and they go through and they might send me 80 line items. Be like rod, please help us with these. But for the most part, everything. So for us it's like our life is business. We don't take salary yet to me, I don't think being a real entrepreneur when it comes down to having employees, we got to make sure the business is.
Leticia
Yeah. So we don't take a.
Rod
Celebrating is always good. So we just put back into the business right now.
Podcast Host
Also. Rep Nation.
Leticia
Rep Nation is probably what. Yeah, it's a separate company. Yeah, that's our supplement company. So that's probably what we're living on right now because it's been here for a while and we run it and that's an e commerce so it's a little bit different. But in the industry with the med spot and everything right now we don't. We don't get a salary right now.
Rod
So we like that. So all of our is business. Everything we do in life.
Podcast Host
His message just sounds like the overhead is insane. And as I'm thinking about all these numbers, I'm like whoo. And we just opened. Not too long.
Leticia
January 8th, we just opened. So we just had our official grand opening. But it's doing great. I will say that. We haven't had to come out of pocket. Glory to God.
Podcast Host
So.
Leticia
So paying for itself.
Podcast Host
So it's profitable now.
Leticia
Yeah, it's been profitable since the first month.
Rod
Well, we got to still pay back what we.
Leticia
I mean we're still paying back things. But all I'm saying is we don't have to have to come out of the other businesses to pay for this business. This business is paying for itself. Glory to God. It is definitely a spot you want to be in. And I think people couldn't wait for me to open.
Podcast Host
And the goal is to open more 100%.
Leticia
Yeah, that's.
Rod
I'm trying to. Our goal is to own outright three and then we probably license out a few of franchise. We just trying to see which business model. But it's. It's a great business. I mean the holistic and the peptide and just functional medicine's taking over. Everybody's in this health space. So it's like it only makes sense.
Podcast Host
Got it, Got it. And I wanna know what Mark do we gotta get to. To open another one? Have we considered that or we just like locking it on building this one?
Rod
We have.
Leticia
I think him and he is. I'm locked in on this one right now. I don't even wanna hear about another one right now. Because I'm here every day, all day. I live and breathe it. I open this morning. I'm gonna close as soon as I leave here, here. So when I get back. So right now when he's working on the next thing, because he's that one, he's over there. And I'm like, I'm right here. Like, let me handle this right here. And I'll catch up to you when you get there.
Rod
The biggest thing is for me is operations and systems. Once we running on 100 to where we can just walk away from that one and we in to where we can disappear for two months and we had all that. Then in the day we're just go ahead and open the next one.
Podcast Host
Yeah, yeah.
Rod
So that's the. So that's the game. But we're not trying to wait too long. We're trying to do it for sure.
Podcast Host
Absolutely, absolutely. So what's.
Rod
What is that right? We need that ebay to be the right number.
Podcast Host
Oh, absolutely. So what is the address? How can people come and support.
Leticia
Yeah, so it's Dynamic 3 Messball. Even on Instagram and Facebook. It's off of Far Road. So a lot of people know Atlanta Fish market is. We're right across the street. It's pull up. No.
Narrator/Advertiser
No paid parking.
Leticia
No garage. 314 Far Road. They got a drive through, not a drive through. I mean you could just pull straight up. Like you don't have to go in the parking garage. You don't have to wait for valet. You know, it can be crazy hard to find. You can see us from the street, you can see us from the sidewalk. So it's. It's super dope. It's easy to get to. We do a lot. We take same day appointments or walk ins if people want to call in and come through. We make time and we just. We care about customer service and your experience.
Rod
We just try to help the community.
Leticia
It's amazing and it's fun us.
Podcast Host
And what is the number one product that y' all sell? What's the number one?
Rod
The number One service right now is
Leticia
probably that liquid lipo.
Rod
Probably a liquid lipo shot.
Podcast Host
Liquid what? Liquid lipo.
Leticia
So liquid lipo is. That's a cheat code that I talked about. So it's a non invasive fat dissolving body contouring shot. It literally I can just shoot it in my stomach or my sides or my back. You can do your inner thighs for girls that want that thigh gap. You can do your arm, you can do your, your chin. And it literally just dissolves, just those
Rod
areas and it drains out through your lymphatic.
Leticia
Yeah. And it tightens your skin at the same time. It's like magic.
Rod
So a lot of people love that because in the day they can do a few treatments and if they just eating right halfway then they'll see great results.
Podcast Host
Okay, but let's, let's say a mother who had a child and they got that belly fat. You're saying if you inject this, it will start to melt away. The fat in that area gone.
Rod
It kills fat. It's not gonna kill all of em.
Leticia
It's amazing.
Rod
So in a day. But it's a stomach here. So it's the ones like even while I'm on this journey, I'm losing weight. This look good, but for some reason
Leticia
it's just ending up tightening at the same time. We mostly have mothers. I mean a lot of men come in and get injured, but it'd be
Rod
like in that stomach area, it might end up being 80 shots, little shots in that area. So they'll just create a whole grid and just inject 10 units each little
Leticia
area and it dissolves it and it tightens that.
Rod
So that's what she be cheating on. She be doing that all the time.
Leticia
You can see my abs right now off of that.
Narrator/Advertiser
Really?
Leticia
Yup. It's amazing.
Rod
So that's like a cheat code. But we always.
Podcast Host
You're not eating all this fruit in these vegetables. No, you gotta eat that.
Rod
You gotta eat that, man. But when people do liquid lipo, they come in and do the body scan which shows them.
Leticia
We do a body scan with it.
Rod
They 3D visual what their body looks like. We make recommendations from food and what they need to change. So you don't just do liquid lipo and can walk out door. Cause we don't change.
Leticia
It comes with a 3D box.
Rod
It's never gonna outwork that mouth. You can't be drinking every weekend.
Podcast Host
You can't.
Leticia
I don't drink.
Rod
So we try to take you on this holistic journey, but in the day we'll always recommend certain things to help you reach a goal.
Leticia
Yeah. Like you get great results. This one girl came in. She is on the retta, which is a weight loss shot, the one we talked about earlier. And she's been doing treatments of the body scan. And one month and one week, she lost 3 inches off her waist.
Podcast Host
What?
Leticia
Snatched?
Rod
Yeah, she is. She rolling in.
Podcast Host
One month and one week.
Leticia
One week.
Rod
Three inches gone.
Podcast Host
Gone.
Rod
So she dialed in.
Podcast Host
She not.
Leticia
She's dialed in.
Rod
She not.
Podcast Host
Oh, my gosh. Yeah. All right. Man Shouts out We just want to
Rod
do it the healthy way. That's it.
Podcast Host
Man. This is incredible. Thank y' all so much for coming by.
Narrator/Advertiser
Yes.
Podcast Host
Very enlightening. Y story is amazing. 18 years together. Yes, 18. Y still look at each other with them googly eyes.
Rod
I still chase that walked in.
Leticia
That's exhausting.
Podcast Host
Okay, real quick. I think we talked about it too. Y' all have sex every day.
Rod
I try to have sex every day.
Leticia
He try every day.
Rod
She don't give to me.
Leticia
I like every other. Give me, like, give me a little time. Give me a couple.
Rod
I'm about to do a poll to find out what happens if you try
Leticia
and do it a couple times a day. Please get off me.
Rod
I feel like if we came up with a relationship with every day. She feel like at least two times a week.
Leticia
I didn't say two. I said every other day. Every 48 hours.
Rod
So you say four days.
Leticia
You get it. It is enough. Because even if it's not the actual action, you get something else. You're getting some type of
Podcast Host
taking every hole.
Leticia
Listen every which way. He can get it all up. It's very irregular, but he'll argue like I didn't. Just like he was fussing at me the other morning, like I. He had some this morning, but he was fussing me the other morning like he was trying to get some. You woke me up at 4:30 in the morning to get some. Now you feel like, well, it's 8 o' clock in the morning.
Rod
No, it's a whole nother day.
Leticia
He's like, why are you.
Rod
Why are you calming?
Podcast Host
Because I am.
Rod
But she like to keep record. You know, women like to keep records for some reason.
Leticia
Four hours is crazy.
Rod
I'm talking about right now. Has nothing to do with what just happened four hours ago.
Leticia
It does.
Rod
Why do we always got to keep going?
Leticia
I'm like, I need my rest.
Rod
So, you know, they always want to bring up what happened last yesterday.
Leticia
I'm like, baby, give it to him. It's been four months. It's like, sir, it's been four hours. Get off of me.
Podcast Host
So do you. I mean. I mean, I guess it's a tough thing to discuss too, because one of your partner wants it more than the other. It could feel like a job. Yeah, you know what I mean?
Leticia
100%.
Rod
So, yeah, we fight that battle all the time.
Leticia
All the time.
Podcast Host
Or can we get like a quick joint in or.
Leticia
That's what I be trying to tell him, but he don't know how to be quick, and that's a problem. I said, if you could be quicker, then we would be looking to wrap this up.
Rod
No, I can't be quicker. Next time I'm going to get it.
Leticia
Got to take it full.
Rod
I got to make you feel every. I got to make you go. I got to take you through the. Cuz if I get quick. And all a sudden you don't want to get to me again. Now I'm trying to, you know. You want to give me that little quick? No, you got to give me more
Leticia
than four hours, bro.
Podcast Host
Do you take the other. Was the p. Something shot?
Leticia
100% and okay, I got you. I have to. I have to.
Rod
She is older. She's just hit 40. So, you know, this style goes at premenopause. So she done did her blood work. So we don't got no testosterone and all that kind of stuff to try to help with the mood and just mimic what she.
Leticia
Yeah, I definitely have to take a few things to kind of help me because as a woman and I'm more introverted than most people know. He's super extroverted. He feeds off of people. But for me, being in a space where I have to deal with different personalities and people all the time time, it's super overstimulating for me, which affects my mood when I come home. Because I'm like, if you want to talk about work, I'm like, I just. I need a minute.
Narrator/Advertiser
I'm off.
Leticia
Which can affect everything. So being able to take other vitamins or supplements that can help me level that out. As I'm in this new season and adjusting to everything, it's a.
Rod
It can be a lot question you and your wife when it comes to business talk. Do y' all have a cutoff time?
Podcast Host
We don't talk about a whole lot of business.
Rod
You don't.
Leticia
Oh, see, that's.
Podcast Host
I don't think she like talking business with me.
Leticia
I hate talking business.
Podcast Host
I hate talking business with.
Leticia
I had to tell him, be my husband right now. Not my husband. Business partner. I don't want to sleep with my business partner.
Podcast Host
She her. And between her and my boy Zel, they kind of manage the studio. And she'll hit me every now and again for some questions, but we don't do a whole lot of but.
Rod
You'll do a lot of but.
Podcast Host
We're not in the business together like y'.

Rod

Podcast Host

Podcast Host

Podcast Host

Rod
I live. You're good. But my wife do a good job at managing everything. I will give it to her. She will still make my meal preps and still do.
Leticia
I don't have a cook. I don't have a house cleaner. I do all of it.
Rod
She like to stay locked in. She just like to do it. I can't stop.
Leticia
I can't say I like it. I'm just used to it. It's just natural for me to do.
Podcast Host
I love it. But thank y' all so much for coming by. Appreciate it. This is a very enlightening and entertaining conversation. But yes, make sure y' all check out the spa and just leave us with a word of wisdom, man, for the people. And we'll. We'll start with you. Right?
Rod
Give them something.
Leticia
Yeah, Me. Oh, okay.
Podcast Host
Go ahead.
Leticia
Oh, I thought she said August.
Rod
Words of wisdom, man. At the end of the day, you always got to believe. The only way you can fall down, you got to get back up. You can't stay down. You got to get back up and stand and fight. The righteous man falls and he falls seven times. But the only thing with his common is always steady. He gets back up.
Podcast Host
I love that. And give him. Give me your Instagram so they can follow you.
Rod
My Instagram is rodgardener87 on IG and TikTok. So check me out.
Leticia
I would say it doesn't matter where you start, you know, the journey. Like don't focus on the destination, just focus on the journey, you know, I come from super humble beginnings. I had to get it out the mud. I still feel like that 19 year old girl who left with a trash bag full of clothes and made the life that I made today. But I still married the love of my life. I'm still super successful despite all odds against me. It's never about how you start or what you start with is what you decide to do with it.
Podcast Host
God.
Leticia
Trust God and don't give up hope. If he did it for me, he'll do it for you, too.
Podcast Host
I love it, man. We can't close it out. No better than that. Do me a favor. I need y' all to send a DM to both of them on Instagram right now and just say thank you. If this conversation helps you in any way, just send them a quick thank you. A dm. Don't worry about a reply back. But I believe if someone gives you something of value, you can at least say thank you. And also do yourself a favor. Go get you some social proof. Meaning build something really, really, really big and keep supporting.
Rod
Social proof.
Podcast Host
Podcast.
Rod
Podcast, absolutely. He's killing it.
Podcast Host
Build it really big. Then come back to your community and teach them how you did what you did. It's the only way our community grows. We outline Peace. Look, I noticed somebody listening right now that's been saying, one day I'm going to start my business. And the truth is, most people don't have an idea problem. They have a starting problem. And that's why I like Shopify. They already have everything set up for you from day one, so you can stop overthinking and actually start selling. And one thing I really like is the checkout experience. When somebody is finally ready to buy from you. Shopify checkout helps more people actually complete their purchase. Then when they come back, their information is already saved. So buying again is incredibly simple. Now, here's the part entrepreneurs don't think about enough. Every hour you're trying to figure out websites and payments and all the technical stuff is an hour you're not creating, creating content, finding customers, or making sales. So Shopify handles that foundation so you could spend your time growing the business instead of building the infrastructure. And that's why millions of businesses, from brands you already know to people launching their very first companies, trust Shopify to power their business. With Shopify, nothing stands between your idea and a real business. So go make it a real business right now. Start your free trial@shopify.com social. That's shopify.com social again. That shopify.com social.
