Paul Bissonnette
I brought it towards the coyotes and I asked them if it was okay if I joined the Spit Chickens podcast full time.
Keith Yandle
Ryan Whitney, you got a Pink Whitney out there now?
Paul Bissonnette
Sandbagger. Get that on camera.
Keith Yandle
The song man is a full time member. Marley just got this from Chris. Whoa.
Whitney
We're buzzing right now.
Keith Yandle
What is up, folks? Welcome to episode 610 of the Spitting Chicklets podcast and the Last one on YouTube. The last. Yeah, I guess you were people without YouTube right now, but it's just getting dummied in the face. But thank you, everyone for tuning in. Thank you so much. Shout out. We got a lot to get to. Shout out. Pink Whitney, Take your shot with Pink Whitney. The fiesta ball biz already told me Pink Whitney was everywhere. Little nips, you know, you'd like to throw the nips away in the trash, but you do see them on the ground.
Paul Bissonnette
I talked a few in my 4Z, walked in past security and was handing out during the game inside.
Biz Nasty
Yeah.
Keith Yandle
Pink Whitney bomb. Yeah. So, okay, that's awesome. Shout out. Pink Whitney. Take your shot with Pink Whitney. Thank you so much, them. And thank you so much to everyone who drinks and consume.
Paul Bissonnette
Did we just take over the Jaeger bomb with the piss? Piss. Pink Whitney bomb.
Whitney
Piss Whitney.
Keith Yandle
Pink Whitney bomb. So, Biz.
Paul Bissonnette
Yeah. Long, long 24 hours. What's going on, boys?
Whitney
You deserve a medal of honor.
Keith Yandle
All of a sudden, just in the middle of one of the most electric social media days I've seen in quite some time, particularly with barstool sports. Danny Boy Kane, Martin Mincy, you host all these guys, a cast of characters. You're cooking for them, you're feeding them. Just basically the genuine, nicest thing you've ever done.
Paul Bissonnette
I'd say I might be up for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Keith Yandle
Yeah. Yeah.
Paul Bissonnette
Okay. So we do have like probably what, 50, 60% of our fan base and listeners who aren't really tapped in that much to the barstool world. So we have to be fair here. I don't even really know how this began. I'm gonna put it on. On your plate with it's. I think it derived from the yak originally and the fact that Mincy, this barstool character, I'll hand it over to you.
Keith Yandle
Yeah, so I. I don't know. So Tate, Ohio's Tate is. Is A guy at Barstool don't know how it came about that he was just gonna follow him. I know Mincy wanted to go to this, this Ole Miss Miami game. He's an Ole Miss, maybe alum. I'll say it right away. Mintz is a. His content is like.
Biz Nasty
He's.
Keith Yandle
He's just like dumb and moronic and kind of selfish and stuff. But people love him, I guess. But he's not like trying.
Paul Bissonnette
I think he's known as a freeloader. A big time freeloader. What's the word that they used? Is one of the terms that they, they describe him as. Okay, well the reason also they sent Tate along with him is when he goes on these quote unquote barstool work trips where he doesn't do a lot of work, he's freeloaded. He's basically, he's basically just partying on other people's dime, but yet collecting a salary from Barstool. So they send Ohio Tate with him to capture everything. Well, maybe one of the best decisions the company's ever made. And he documented this guy's entire trip to the Fiesta bowl in which Ole Miss. The. He's a huge Ole Miss guy. Actually went to university there, I believe. Graduated.
Keith Yandle
I'm not mean how.
Paul Bissonnette
Don't know.
Keith Yandle
I think he went there when it wasn't really people. I don't think they're big Mints fans because if that's the guy out representing your school, it's kind of like I don't want to send my kids there.
Whitney
I don't know. He's got a lot of pride for it though.
Paul Bissonnette
He does. He knows the chance wit.
Keith Yandle
Oh, he knows the chance.
Paul Bissonnette
And, and just the fact that there's obviously been this build up. It's been their best season ever. They're. They make the playoffs which is like it's been expanded to I believe 12 teams now in the college football race. I know we got a lot of, a lot of hockey fans here listening and then their, their big time head coach who's up for contract at the end of the season or had an opt out clause.
Keith Yandle
He was signed. He was signed. He was decided to leave.
Paul Bissonnette
He just because he has an opt out decides to leave to their biggest rival for an even bigger bag in which who we got to FaceTime before the game as we are going there. So this last 48 hours for miny has been off the rails. Tate has done an incredible job documenting the whole thing and then I think once again it derived all from the Yak Bob, Big cat Kate, like who. Who are the whole. I mean, there's a big crew.
Keith Yandle
Nick, Brandon, Titus, I think that's. That's the crew. People in and out. I think they just bring on Mincy to just make fun of him like once a week.
Whitney
Does he live in Chicago?
Keith Yandle
Mincy, he lives out of people's like vans and houses. Wherever he's boondoggling to.
Biz Nasty
It stemmed because they didn't want to stream the game with Miny too because they were like, all right, if we.
Kelly Chase
Send him to the Fiesta bowl, he's.
Biz Nasty
Not going to be here hanging out with us while we stream the game. So that was a big part of it as well.
Whitney
Let's put him on biz so we can enjoy the game.
Keith Yandle
Exactly.
Pasha
Canadian.
Keith Yandle
He's.
Paul Bissonnette
And this is why I love Barstool. Everybody gets together in order to help our boy Miny, where it wasn't just me. Riggsy was originally going to host him. I think it was going to be for the two nights. And Rigsy had something going on. He couldn't go to the game, but was nice enough to take him in. He set up a dinner for him after his party at the Barstool Arizona where he brought him to Ocean's Master Mastro's Ocean Club. What is it called? The an.
Whitney
Yeah, Ocean Club.
Paul Bissonnette
Ocean Cub. And the cook stayed there late. They brought out some fancy dessert for him. He hosted them that night. And then the next day I ended up taking them over and.
Keith Yandle
Well, you left out some things here. I'm sorry to interrupt you, but if I'm sitting with my wife or a couple, you know, some couples, we're enjoying and. And that. And that guy starts doing that Ole Miss Hotty Toddy. He's screaming in the restaurant. I mean, I'm ask. Yeah, I'm asking. So can you kick this guy out of the restaurant? I'm trying to enjoy a steak. I haven't been out to d dinner with my wife in a couple months and now I got this clown yelling and screaming the night before. One of the funniest side by side picks I've ever seen where Mitzi had a girl come. She was talking to him and it was like, I'd ra. I'd rather be in Nam. Like, get this guy away from me. And then there's biz and Biz is talking to her and she's got. She's got a smile that could brighten up anyone's day. She's loving life. And then she took the jacket off, sitting next to Bizarre. Did you steal Mincy's girl?
Paul Bissonnette
So.
Whitney
Man, I think he, like, he.
Paul Bissonnette
Got her a VIP table. So she showed up. I don't know how that was facilitated. She was facing a little bit of backlash for putting Mincy in a tough spot of. Of thinking that she was probably going to bring all girls with her. And then it was literally, she was the only girl. And it was just like seven or eight dudes.
Biz Nasty
It was also one of the guys that came at Portnoy last week from a rival. So it wasn't just like a group of random guys. It was like a rival media company where one of the guys attacked Portnoy.
Keith Yandle
But that's like Keith getting a shot through from the point. It's like me snapping a nice tape to tape Breakout Pass. It's like you dumping one in right when you get over the Redline biz. That's nothing. That's Mincy. That's what this guy does. He up.
Paul Bissonnette
That's part. Yeah, that's like the bare minimum. Like, that's not even that bad. Where I don't even think Dave cared that much about that part. But yeah, and it was. So I ended up meeting her name's Kelsey Free. She does this cool social account where she's an Ole Miss fan, but it's called, like, Wives of the sec. So she mimics each of how the wives, like, talk in their Southern accents and, like, what they're about. Like, some of the. Some of the fan bases. Moms are the more pompous moms, like, the more chill moms who have no expectations that are just happy to be there. Or the Vanderbilt, the wives. Is this true? Are you aware of, like, all. How all they are.
Keith Yandle
You're telling us about this.
Whitney
So I don't know who's married in college.
Paul Bissonnette
Not. No. Like, I. It's called Wives of the sec. Maybe it's just the. The fans, coaches, fans. Like, it's called Wives of the sec. So. But she was. She was very nice. And I actually followed her a few weeks prior to even meeting her. So it was just kind of. It ended up just lining up. Why do you have that grimace on your face?
Biz Nasty
That's.
Keith Yandle
No, I just. I didn't know you'd followed her prior. That's funny how things work.
Whitney
Did you steal her from Mincy? Is this true?
Keith Yandle
I don't think Mincy ever had her. I know I asked the question, but.
Paul Bissonnette
No, like, we just. We were just chatting, right? And I. I was there for 35 minutes. I dropped off some door prizes for Mincy's big night at Barstool Arizon. He did the hottie Toddy chant. We got on the mic and then I went home because I wanted to save up my energy for the next day, which was. Which was yesterday. And the chaos that ensued. Mincy all day. Danny. Danny Boy Kane, who I. I didn't even realize this person was a person until yesterday morning when big cats calling me. Do you. Were you aware of who this guy.
Keith Yandle
Was for a long, long time? Keith actually learned this morning on a text thread with me, him and Dave.
Scott Laughton
Yep.
Keith Yandle
For people who don't know Danny Boy Kane, he's been around for 20 years. Survivor survived. Well, he. No, he. It was all. There was a video many, many years ago, this 20 years, where he's discussing the dirty, disgusting, salacious rumors that he had the swine flu, was attacked by a bear. None of it was ever true. It was. It was complete nonsense. And it was child support. It was a joke. Not one iota of it was true. And he made that clear. And he's a die hard Miami Hurricanes fan. And I think Dave's basically dreamed of kind of employing him. And their relationship has gone up and down. I think it's Dave's favorite person he's ever seen or met on the Internet. He's been doing it for quite some time. So when I found out, knowing the history of Danny Boy Kane and his big game shoes, those big game shoes he had on, those Miami Hurricane shoes, just so good. When I heard that he was coming, he was going to be at your house, I'm like, this is unreal. Like, biz gets to hang with this guy. And he didn't disappoint. And I think maybe my favorite moment of the Internet in a long, long time was the phone call you did with Lane Kiffin. It was a FaceTime. And typical mince, he didn't tell the guy he was being filmed. Didn't tell him it would be posted to the Internet like a complete. And Elaine Kiffin wasn't happy. So when you guys realize that there's a clip of you saying, do you think this is bad juju before the game? Because Mincy's down bad. The whole card's down bad. And I don't know if you got a. Can we show Danny Boy? Can't shrug because he knew. He texted you.
Nate MacKinnon
Yeah.
Keith Yandle
What did he say? Watch Danny Boy at the end.
Kelly Chase
Not happy that you asked me to talk to him and you guys videotaped.
Keith Yandle
What does the text say?
Kelly Chase
That's crappy. You asked Me to talk to him. And you guys videotaped it.
Whitney
It is crappy.
Keith Yandle
Shitty move.
Paul Bissonnette
I just assumed he knew.
Kelly Chase
I assumed he knew.
Whitney
Wait, how did you guys switch seats?
Scott Laughton
Hold on.
Paul Bissonnette
Watch a shrub you before the game.
Keith Yandle
Just so small. Just a little one. But I was thinking it. You just said it. And Miami comes out on top. And Danny boy Kane is a winner. And Mitzy is done. Send him back to the office where the whole office hoped that Ole Miss won. So he just go right to Miami. He's going to stay with Keith the week leading up to the national title game. So.
Paul Bissonnette
Another thing, too. Danny boy Kane goes into Ole Miss's section like he was in the. That was the eye of the storm, right? So all the Miami fans were on the other side. And if I. It was an interesting thing. I'd never been to a big, big college game like that.
Keith Yandle
Pretty.
Paul Bissonnette
So to see, like all the Miami fans across and when they would get a first down or when they would score a touchdown and the uproar. I will say the. The University of Miami 1. Although they didn't have as many people there. It felt more violent.
Keith Yandle
Like, it felt like they're a violent team. They're defense.
Paul Bissonnette
Felt like if you walked by their concourse on the other side, there's a possibility you might get knifed. Like, that's not in a bad way, but like in a fandom way. That's how intense they are. Where I feel like Ole Miss is more of the fan that gets knifed. And then they sue you because their dad's the lawyer. That's kind of the big.
Keith Yandle
Well, the kids in front of you guys were. I mean, that's a kid. Those are kids that I. I thought right away, I can't let my kids end up. You know, I'd love them at an SEC school. Being in a fraternity is probably cool. I can't have them be like these kids sitting in front of Danny Boy Kane. And the fact that those kids ended up on the wrong side. I don't know if we can show those kids.
Paul Bissonnette
Oh, yeah.
Keith Yandle
One of the kids looks like someone. I can't think of it. I think you'll know. But these kids and you had left them, and all of a sudden you got to get back over there.
Paul Bissonnette
That was me doing the pounding motion. There's a picture of that kid right in. In. In Danny Kane's face, right? And he's. They're getting obnoxious. And that's kind of how we had a. We had, I believe, four tickets and then three tickets and one of the parts if you weren't following it along online and some of you who don't follow Barstool are like, oh, barstool, we love barstool. Barstools provided us everything that, that I' on the media side of my life or at least to start to propel whatever we've done. And they do some like so many amazing things and they have a enormous following. So on the way throughout Min's travels, there was a gentleman who like basically saved him a seat on the flight. And his name is Chris. He doesn't live in Arizona, but he travels here or, or maybe he does and then he travels away. But I believe he lives away and travels to Arizona for bi weekly treatments for stage four brain cancer that he has. So he was being documented as part of, you know, holding the seat. Mincy ends up making his flight to be able to even get here. So because this Chris gentleman and they found out his story became a part of the journey, they invited him and got him tickets to the game. So I ended up sitting with myself, my buddy Joey Superstein and Chris, who is this guy battling for his life and then yet helping out Mincy. So this is why it's all kind of fun. And this, the Internet is a very special, actual weird place. So he ends up coming over to my house and hanging out pregame. And then Big Cat, who pretty much helped facilitate and start all this with the Yak and all those guys in this crazy thing, he goes, this shirt that Chris showed up with, he printed the shirt of Mincy pass out on the flight next to him. He's the one to the left of him, wore it on a shirt to our pregame as a Barstool fan. Like nobody told him to go print the shirt. He, he went and rushed to go do it his own time and energy. So Big Cat says, we're gonna print those shirts on Barstool. We're gonna put them up and all the proceeds are going to go to Chris. I think by the time kickoff happened, Chris and his family got over a hundred thousand dollars. And at this point I think it might, it might be like double that. I don't know what the.
Keith Yandle
I haven't bought my hundred shirts yet because I want that shirt. I want to wear Mincy sleeping face down like that.
Biz Nasty
Yeah.
Keith Yandle
So you're, that's what I think of.
Paul Bissonnette
That'S what Barstool does, right with and in the ends like it provides these fun viral moments of, of chaos. Yet along the journey you meet the fans of Barstool and then. And then big cats given back and changing this guy's life. This guy's married and he's got a one year old. Like I don't know how much time this guy's got left. I don't know what, what more, what uphill battle he's got left. We got into a little bit yesterday, but I won't share too much detail, but that was one of the things that ended up happening. So I sat with Chris and, and Joey and then next thing you know, I got Tate going. Hey, we got going down over here. And these old miss kids are. Are in his grill. So I'm glad you, you brought up those kids, but because it made me think of Chris. But just a wild game. I ended up leaving after half. A lot of people were criticized. How could you, how could you leave that?
Whitney
You don't care.
Paul Bissonnette
I first of all, Unreal Game Unreal experience. I didn't want to get caught in the knowing. I had to get up this morning at 6:00 and do a bunch of other work that I had that I had schedule. I didn't provide the food beforehand. Pasha, like about two months ago, reached out to Austin Matthews to facilitate somebody who could come over and cook on times that I need. Mia, she's awesome. So she came over, cooked us the pregame and then left all the food in the oven. So I had to kind of make sure it was all ready to go by the time these guys got home and get a good night's sleep. And sure enough, Chris came back and enjoyed it and cleaned off his dish, as did tape. And then Mincy just left it just all dirty.
Whitney
Why didn't they put it in the dishwasher though?
Paul Bissonnette
I don't even care. It goes. It always comes back to Mincy.
Keith Yandle
Yeah, I do love the fact that Chris, that guy's very funny because his. One of his original tweets was. Yeah, I think Minty. His phone was dead. He got on the plane, I need to charge my phone. He plugged the charger into the outlet and fell asleep before actually plugging the charger into the phone. So that's kind of minty. And there's this dish, you know, to not scoop out and watch stage four brain cancer butter. It's just. And then you see Chris. And I'm going to make sure that these can go right into the dishwasher. There's not work for the person putting them into the dishwasher.
Paul Bissonnette
Standard practice.
Keith Yandle
But Danny Boy Kane. Mincy Biz Amazing day of content awesome stuff and shout out Chris. Maybe we can get that link up there one more time. Awesome. That big cat and everyone did that. So now something else we're going to get into quick. You Support Chris@climbforchris.com and shout out to Rigsy too.
Paul Bissonnette
Rigsy gave him a pair of one of one Adidas shoes, sent him on his way, provided his couch for the night, a place to record his podcast, seafood tower special dessert Mastro staying open later, letting them being obnoxious and not getting kicked out. So Rigsy, Rigsy took care of our boy too.
Keith Yandle
And they're, they're great new Adidas shoes. Foreplay has and, and like you watch within the next couple weeks Mincy will have a video where he's like dogging Adidas. This is how this guy does things. So. All right, so next story, quick on this. Wasn't even really going to address this until the Ottawa Senators, this is my opinion, dropped the craziest team statement I think I've ever seen in which the sentence was used. I texted you biz. Just thinking of an NHL team releasing a statement in which it says amongst other things that request was not heard by the lowest form of trolls and sick people who scour the Internet. I don't even really know where to start. Besides I want your guys opinion. When that story fake story broke and the tweets and the rumors were flying, would you ever have released the statement as a team just making so many people unaware of it actually go look into this ridiculous rumor?
Whitney
No.
Keith Yandle
Thank you.
Paul Bissonnette
Yeah, yeah. No.
Keith Yandle
What are we doing?
Paul Bissonnette
I was, I was obviously busy all day yesterday and, and like after talking to a few people like you just said like you, you wait to see if it continues to gain tons of traction and if it's still being ridiculous in a week then at, at that point you do it. But I don't know, like pretty crazy to be going on online though for that to be spread. And this isn't the first time they've dealt with a, with a rumor buzzing around in Ottawa.
Whitney
Yeah. And how did that turn out? Your two best players at the time ask out with Carlson and, and Hoffman back then. Right. So now it's like do you. Do these fans want their players to leave and not want to play there? I just, I really don't get how, I don't understand how it got legs, how it even got talked about. But like if you're an Ottawa Senators fan and you know dragging guys names through the mud like why do you. I'm a fan of The Patriots. If Drake May is cheating on his wife, I. I don't care. I don't care what he does in his. As long as he's throwing dimes out there, I do not care.
Scott Laughton
Right.
Whitney
So it's like, why. Why do these people put their time and energy into stuff that it does not matter at the end of the day, Worry about your own selves. Who cares what other guys are doing? Just worry about them having fun on the ice.
Keith Yandle
Yeah, it's. It sucks for guys. I mean, this is, this is that like you're. That's changed, right? This is like newer thing with the Internet and these rumors that come up, whether they're true or untrue, that you just like kind of have to like deal with as a player, not saying it's easy. Probably why it's ideal for a player not to be on Twitter. And, and I know that's way harder said than done, but it's better off mental health, career wise, in my opinion. And this is speaking from somebody who was on Twitter in a day when I was getting ridiculed on Twitter. It's probably better for your career just to stay off. Now the thing about it, like all these rumors and this ridiculous and how it catches fire like that, the team just like, you have no business bringing it up. You have no business giving it any more legs. Maybe they're thinking, all right, well, the players now won't be asked about it in the locker room. I don't know. Is that the case? Maybe they're. They're told, hey, we released a statement on this. Do not bring it up to any of the players. Maybe that that's why they did it. But I think there were numerous Senators fans who see this team statement and then have to go look in to this rumor that. Yeah, that's my thing. Like you're.
Paul Bissonnette
Yeah, but it's to, to like not to defend the team and, and the way they handled it because like some of these guys are older and maybe don't live in the Internet world. So they're like hearing the fact that there's this rumor online and they're like, that they're like, why would we let this continue to breathe and, and, and, and live in speculation where we could just come out and, and nip it in the butt. Where like you said, like the, the, the people that he described as far as like the trolls and the people who would even come up with this rumor and then put it on Twitter and then the people who would continue to like, retweet it and recycle it and talk about it. Like he, you.
Keith Yandle
You.
Paul Bissonnette
You tend to not want to give those people the oxygen. Maybe they fired early by doing it. But I also just think more of the attention should be on once again. Like people who would just like put this online. Like, this is obviously insane. Like, it makes me uncomfortable. Like we come on and we joke around about. But like when it comes to guy's personal life, like for instance, this guy's taking a leave of absence or you hear that this guy's dealing with something behind the scenes, like you just like, you just like you want that person to be in a good place. And, and, and that's it. Like the hockey even comes as a second. So I don't know. Like, I, I think it's crazy that the rumor was put online. I think it was crazy like in the past that it was. And I guess it sucks that we have to talk about this now, but I can see why Ottawa came out and nipped it in the butt. Like I, I would not have done that. That would be of my criticism. But do they hire like a PR firm and like when's the right time to do that? And also maybe this is players coming to them and saying what the dude. Like this. None of this is true. And my wife or my girlfriend is at home losing her mind because I'm being dragged into the. And, and, and. And now they're uncomfortable. They don't. They've never been in a situation where all of a sudden their name's being talked about online in this. So there's just so much that goes into it. And like you said, you hope it doesn't. I think Elliot talked about on his podcast. I haven't listened. I was like, what is happening with the situation? And, and when I talked to Jeff and G, they essentially said like he would basically if his name was on that list, he'd be like, get me the out of town.
Scott Laughton
Where.
Paul Bissonnette
Yep, Yan's is shaking his head. Where if him and his wife and kids had to deal with that, they might say, absolutely. See a later. And.
Keith Yandle
And he already said they've been through this stuff before. So the sense fans, the normal ones who are maybe good fans, they're minding their own business, which people don't do anymore. People. People need to mind their own business. But the fans who, who do and they just like the sense they don't deserve. They're like, what the. Like this, this organization. They. It seemed like things were turning. They get in the playoffs last year and now it's this. And the problem is, is that I don't think Elliot talks about it. I know we're not talking about it. If it was just that rumor, I wouldn't have brought that up on this show online about somebody else's life. Like, none of my business. None of our business.
Paul Bissonnette
Oh, but you're saying now we have but the team.
Keith Yandle
Ye makes the statement and it's now discussed on all these different platforms. So a shitty situation. And I mean, if there's ever, ever a city at a team you're not looking to play the day that this news breaks, it's the abs and the abs just. I mean, can you not. Can you not get like the Devils yesterday, right?
Whitney
But even Josh Manson had four points. Like, it's just like everyone, like, bring them on. I mean, I honestly, I feel bad. I feel. Been wet. You made a good point. You feel bad for the girlfriends and the in the wives. Like it was not true. Whether it is true or not. Like you feel bad for them. But yeah, the Colorado Avalanche coming in. Tom must have been like, all right, boys, here we. Oh, no, they were on the road, right? It's like point night tonight for the fellas where they finish 8, 2.
Keith Yandle
Yeah, you got steos releasing the statement. You got senators guys on their phones. And then you see the dog walking into the race. And then my car comes in. They're all the hallway.
Kelly Chase
Hey, Nate.
Paul Bissonnette
Hey, Nate.
Nate MacKinnon
Need anything?
Paul Bissonnette
Did you get that Christmas card I sent you? I shoveled your driveway this morning instead of doing pre game skate.
Keith Yandle
And right Now, I mean, McKinnon has, I think, four points last night, a goal and three assists, I believe. Yeah, McDavid had the hat trick earlier in the week. He gets another one. Last night we got celebrity with the. The performance in LA biz you tweeted out. I can't believe this guy's on at 10:30 Eastern. This is not right. We're watching Legit Greatness. We're watching things happen from a 19 year old that we haven't seen a 19 year old do since Sidney Crosby was 19 years old. So before we get into celebrating, McDavid, I do want to bring in a very special guest right now. Speaking of barking and speaking of skating, I'm being told he's ready. So why aren't you bringing him in?
Nate MacKinnon
What's up, boys?
Paul Bissonnette
Oh, the dog. Dog is here.
Nate MacKinnon
What's up, boys?
Keith Yandle
Buzzing. You're buzzing this year, dog.
Nate MacKinnon
Yeah.
Keith Yandle
Congrats.
Nate MacKinnon
Sometimes.
Keith Yandle
Sometimes, sometimes. So I. I don't really know where to start this Season for you, but unlike any other. Your pace, your goal scoring, but the team and how good it's been. How have you guys stayed so, like, motivated and continued playing so well when you didn't lose in regulation for close to two months?
Nate MacKinnon
Yeah, I just think. I mean, you guys have been there. There's always that sense of you're just always uncomfortable even when you're winning. You think it all could just go to at any time. So, you know, we've had a couple guys go down now, but we were so healthy forever too, and we haven't had that in so long. So. Yeah, it's been great. It's. From day one this year, it's felt a little different. I think bedsy's been awesome. Yeah, I don't know. It's. It's hard to explain. You know, we've. We've had a great start and it's.
Keith Yandle
Been a lot of fun biz quickly before you go. So when you say it felt different even in camp, like just you. You even could tell. Wow, this feels like special right now.
Nate MacKinnon
Yeah, I mean, we'll see how the playoffs go. But I do think when you lose like that, like heartbreaking of a loss, it can kind of bring you together with guys. Like, you know, we've. We've had like a lot of new guys every year. Like, we trade for like six guys during the season or, you know, we got two new goalies last year and a lot of new players. Nelly came in. It just takes a bit. I've never been traded, but it can't be easy, you know. And by the way, Nelly's playing unreal right now.
Keith Yandle
21 goals right now.
Nate MacKinnon
Yeah. So I think maybe, I mean, I hope, I guess that it, you know, it's definitely brought us together in this regular season, just losing like that heartbreaking loss and most of the same groups coming back or came back this year, so. Yeah, I don't know. It's. It's definitely felt a little more comfortable, for sure.
Paul Bissonnette
Yeah. A little bit more familiarity. I mean, you talked about Nelly there and then, of course, nature, like that chaos last year and how that all went down. And obviously he. He. He has a few skill sets, like his speed that can kind of keep up with you. How have you felt like that's progressed as far as your on ice, like, chemistry with him and what he's been able to do and provide you guys?
Nate MacKinnon
Yeah, I mean, I think we needed a little time to. We play pretty similar, you know, especially off the rush. So I did think last Year was pretty good together. You know, we had some really good moments, but I think this year we're just a lot more communication. He's a lot more comfortable, I'm more comfortable. And yeah, we just kind of try to get, get out of each other's.
Biz Nasty
Way a little bit.
Nate MacKinnon
I think when, when it is off the rush and obviously end zone's different, but when he has the puck, I just try to let him go. You know, I'm not trying to catch up to him or try to call for it. You know, he, he's so good at it. Like he's one of the best in the world at his own entries, you know, and, and transporting the puck up the ice and he's so fast and big. So yeah, he's, he's been a horse this year.
Paul Bissonnette
Do you feel that relieves a little bit of that responsibility off of you from like an energy perspective where you're like, normally I would have done that more. I mean you have you my car on the ice. But when he's able to transport it. Not saying that ran and didn't do that, but I felt like you were relied on more to do that through the neutral zone.
Nate MacKinnon
Yeah, him and Miko are just so different. I, I definitely think, you know, I, I do get to defer a bit to, to Marty off the rush. It does save me a little energy. I do think. I really do like a lot of neutrals on regroups. I'll just go to the wall and he'll just start doing laps around the zone and around the whole ice like it's. And he's like goes through triangles and dances. Everybody, it's. There's no fear. And then Mikko, you know, he's, he's one of the best down low players in, in this league. So, you know, that was something that he would do a lot for me as well. So. Just different. Both special, obviously.
Whitney
Have you noticed a big difference from the beginning of your career from now of like, you know, in the beginning your career, you got to get pucks in deep, you know, go in on the forecheck. But now it just seems like you guys carry the puck in no matter what. For some not even forcing plays, but making good plays at the blue line, trusting each other. Is that something like your coach is like, hey boys, don't dump it in. I want you guys holding on to the puck, making your plays. Or is it just kind of something you guys do?
Nate MacKinnon
Yeah, you know, he encourages it. You know, he encourages delaying looking for our D. He wants Our D up in every rush. I think everyone does, but, you know, I definitely turn around. I just look for number eight whenever I can. It's not a bad option.
Whitney
No.
Keith Yandle
Yeah.
Nate MacKinnon
He encourages. He wants possession, you know, and there is a time and place for us to dump it in. And I think we do get in trouble. Even against Ottawa last night, we started turning everything over and they, they got too quickly. So we have a really good forecheck and I think that's an underrated part of our game is our forecheck and when we need to use it, we will. And obviously in the spring, summer, hopefully, we're going to need it.
Keith Yandle
Watching Makar, it really reminds people of like, of Bobby Orr. It sounds crazy to say. And Biz has said everyone's playing for second place in the Norris Trophy as long as he's in this league. And we've talked about you and Sid and McDavid and like hockey being your life and how driven and focused you are. Is Kale like that or is he kind of actually, he seems like laid back. I just don't know what he's like away from the rink. Just seeing the dominance on the ice.
Nate MacKinnon
Yeah, I think it is, you know, I don't know how you can be that good and not really, really care and think about it. And he's so competitive as well. Like, he's very, very competitive. Definitely a quieter guy. But, you know, he has his moments of, you know, he's. He wants to win. He's sneaky, physical out there too.
Paul Bissonnette
He'll.
Nate MacKinnon
He can. Very strong, very wiry. Yeah, I mean, yeah, just a laid back guy. And it's. I don't know, every day it's something, you know, he's just, he's just so good. It's. I agree. I, I think it's second place every year for the Norris, for the whole. Everyone else in the league. I mean, so good defensively. I think he's got a lot better defensively. Like, he shuts down everybody. You know, he puts defense first every night. And it's impressive. It's very impressive.
Whitney
And then you got the big boys back there too. Even like the addition of Brent Burns, like, what does he mean to a team for you guys? Like, he's just. He's almost like a man of mystery. You don't know what's in his backpack. You don't know, like, what's going on.
Paul Bissonnette
You don't you ever look?
Nate MacKinnon
No, I've never looked.
Paul Bissonnette
I think he's a big coffee guy, isn't he?
Nate MacKinnon
Yeah, I've heard it's a coffee thing, but I.
Keith Yandle
He gets to the hamster, too.
Nate MacKinnon
Sometimes I don't even see it. Yeah, I don't even see it.
Paul Bissonnette
Are you not a coffee guy?
Nate MacKinnon
I am. I am, yeah. But he's just at the rink. I think he's already made his coffee by the time I get there, you know, so. But yeah, he's been awesome. He's, you know, he's got his. His ranch and his. All his animals and. And he tells a story about when a snake got loose in his house. Have you heard this one?
Whitney
Yeah.
Nate MacKinnon
Like, have you? I. I don't.
Paul Bissonnette
I don't remember him. Did he tell us this one, boys?
Keith Yandle
I feel like I've heard it. I don't know if it was when he was on or did he tell it, Nate?
Nate MacKinnon
Yeah, like, he said, he. I don't think he has snakes anymore, but he has. He'd have snakes in, like, drawers, like, like to labeled, so he knows, like, where each one is. Obviously in a cage. But one was missing for 11 months in his house, like a big snake, like, and he ended up finding it in his sub pump. Just, I guess it doesn't need to eat for like two years, this snake or something. So it was just. But like, I couldn't imagine having a snake.
Paul Bissonnette
How could you go to sleep? How could you sleep?
Keith Yandle
That's why he's not looking in the backpack.
Paul Bissonnette
Yeah, exactly.
Keith Yandle
There it is.
Paul Bissonnette
I always like to ask you about the, like, the training and stuff like that. What's like, the latest thing you've been doing to, like, get an edge? And I was. Someone told me a funny story. You were doing a signing, and they were like, hey, can you tell me what. What the water exercises are that you do in the pool? And you were like, no. And then he was, okay.
Whitney
Last time we had him on.
Paul Bissonnette
That's true. That's true.
Nate MacKinnon
Yeah. I think this year I've been trying to lift really heavy. Very, very heavy lifting.
Keith Yandle
After the game, summer before.
Nate MacKinnon
Yeah, before.
Paul Bissonnette
Right before.
Nate MacKinnon
Yeah.
Whitney
You could tell when you broke that stick the other night. It looked pretty easy.
Keith Yandle
Yeah.
Bugsy Watson
Yeah.
Nate MacKinnon
It's some strength on that one.
Keith Yandle
All right, give us the pre game right now. Like, are we talking about front squats?
Pasha
Yeah.
Nate MacKinnon
It'll change a lot. My performance guy who treats me and gives me a lot of exercises, who's here with me. He was around track athletes for a long time, and all those guys that the fastest people in the world lift very heavy before they run, before they compete. So I think it's something in hockey that a lot of. A lot of. I don't know. When I was growing up, it was like, oh, like if you lift heavy, you're gonna blow your back or your knees or whatever, so. And I think that's a myth. And so, yeah, that's what we've been trying to do a little bit more, and the whole team's doing it. We have an unreal strength coach Alexi Pianozzi, he's giving guys a ton of good lifting to do. So, yeah, that's something a little different this season.
Keith Yandle
Gary Roberts did that when he got traded to Pittsburgh. I remember right before the game. I mean, he'd come into the locker room probably five minutes before he went on the ice and warm up in a lather and he. He would be doing all like, explosive, heavy lifting. So he was kind of ahead of the game with that, I guess.
Nate MacKinnon
Yeah, it's like low reps, like heavy lift just to kind of turn everything on. My warmth isn't that long or that hard, but it's just a couple reps and get out there.
Paul Bissonnette
So always fine tuning it. It's awesome. And like, you don't have to throw out a number, but I would imagine it's easily in the, the six digits as far as, like, what you're spending in order to keep your body operating. Do you fly anybody in as far as like art or needling or do you have everything that's set up in Colorado?
Nate MacKinnon
Yeah. So Marchin is. He's full time here for like five, six years. So he was with. Actually I met him through Sid when I was 17. Andy O' Brien and him were friends in Calgary. And I was like, I don't need this, like, what is this treatment? You know, I was like, I don't need treatment. And then he was with the tennis player and then she retired. So I, I asked if he'd come to Denver and it's been amazing. Kale and Gabe use him a ton as well now. So. Yeah, it's. It's a. He's a special, special treatment person. I mean, he's coming to Olympics with us. He's. He's awesome and, and very lucky to have him down here. That's awesome.
Whitney
Do you guys have like a congrats, obviously on being named to the Canadian team, but do you guys have a group chat going already? Is like that already firing you guys getting ready for the trip over to Italy?
Nate MacKinnon
Yeah. Yeah, it's a group chat. I think they asked what their goal song should be. I'm Staying out of that one. Let Sid answer all these questions.
Paul Bissonnette
You know, Sid has to answer that.
Whitney
Nate's like, I'll just score all the goals you guys pick.
Paul Bissonnette
No, no.
Nate MacKinnon
Yeah. I wonder what Sid would pick. Yeah, I don't know what we're gonna pick. Maybe Marshy will pick.
Paul Bissonnette
I think you would say the dog days are over. That's one of his favorite jams. I know that.
Whitney
Something from the hip, maybe. That's a big Canadian, right?
Nate MacKinnon
Yeah. That's what the world junior guys just did that, right? The hip.
Whitney
Or no, maybe you guys should go, like Atlantis. More set or something.
Nate MacKinnon
Yeah, maybe something else.
Paul Bissonnette
What are you. What are you listening to the most, Nate?
Nate MacKinnon
Honestly, I don't live. I'm not listening to a ton of music right now. When I'm in my car, I just try to. I. There's so much, like, good podcasts out there now that I try to listen to or where I'll just call people. So that's kind of what I'm doing.
Whitney
You used to be heavy in the rap game, right?
Nate MacKinnon
Yeah, yeah. I'm 30 now, man. You know, just trying to chill a little bit. I don't need to be listening to that.
Paul Bissonnette
Go to the rig. Trying to get his BPMs down.
Nate MacKinnon
Getting all angry. Going to the rink, dog.
Keith Yandle
Before we let you go, you were actually the first guy, I believe, when asked about the news that the arena is going to be a little smaller in Italy. I think you were the first guy that said, I don't give a. I don't care. So when you'd been hearing about it, you probably right away had that thought, like, why is everyone talking about this? Who cares? We're all playing on the same ice.
Nate MacKinnon
Yeah, I could. I mean, Peter B. I did an interview with him, and he asked me, and I was just like, who cares? You know? Like, what am I going to do? You know, like, worry about.
Keith Yandle
Go faster.
Nate MacKinnon
Yeah. Or I just mean, like, I can't control how big they make it. If they. It's a three on three rink, you know, like, we're going to go over there and play. Play hard and hopefully win. And I think I saw Connor say the same thing. I know Sid doesn't care at all. I think he likes a little smaller eggs, to be honest. So, yeah, it's. I don't think it matters. It's all the same for everybody, and I can't wait to get over there.
Keith Yandle
Well, thank you so much.
Paul Bissonnette
This is so awesome for us.
Biz Nasty
Yeah, this is.
Keith Yandle
This is our final episode on YouTube before we go over to Netflix.
Nate MacKinnon
Yeah, he was saying you go to Netflix.
Keith Yandle
Yes, I know, I know, I know. Thank you. Very excited.
Paul Bissonnette
We're dropping Tom Brady for our first interview on there.
Nate MacKinnon
No way.
Paul Bissonnette
It was cool talking to him. I mean, you talk about mindsets and how you guys operate and how. How much of an investment is, like, you know, as far as your free time into being as good as you are at hockey. But, yeah, those. You guys are a different level, buddy. And we're grateful that we get to watch you night in, night out. And as far as this Team Canada goes, buddy, Bring it home. Bring it home, buddy.
Scott Laughton
Yeah, yeah.
Keith Yandle
Bring it home, Nate. Bring it home. Listen, but I wanted to thank you because our sandbaggers will remain on YouTube, and our YouTube channel has grown a lot because of that. And that all started with you, Biz. And I and Keith have brought up that we go three on three now. Scramble. You sit, and then you chuck in Marshy. He joins your little rematch team against us.
Nate MacKinnon
That would be.
Keith Yandle
That would be at Cabot Links. That offers out there for this summer. So think about.
Kelly Chase
I'm.
Nate MacKinnon
I'm so into YouTube Golf now. And I watched that whole, like, when you. When that guy was late.
Paul Bissonnette
What would you have said? You probably reacted more aggressively than what that was.
Keith Yandle
I don't know.
Nate MacKinnon
But I think Whit handled it as aggressive as possible.
Keith Yandle
It wasn't about.
Paul Bissonnette
I know. I. I know.
Nate MacKinnon
I know. I know. It was. That was all.
Paul Bissonnette
Time, though. What if nature shows up late for a Western Conference matchup against.
Nate MacKinnon
It is true. It's a lot of money on the line.
Whitney
And.
Nate MacKinnon
I was just laughing, like, I don't think, like. Because that's how, like, hockey guys would like, you know, chirp people for being late, not caring. You just. You get roasted. But I don't think golfers get roasted like that.
Keith Yandle
No, they don't. We. I learned that.
Nate MacKinnon
You know what to do.
Keith Yandle
Actually, there's Quan. Quan has his guys. I. I'll send the video to you. They, like, imitate me and make fun of me and rip on me. I'll send it over. But I wanted to thank you for, you know, for the first sandbagger, and. Yeah, keep crushing it, buddy.
Paul Bissonnette
Do you think I'm a sandbagger?
Nate MacKinnon
I mean, we've talked about this before. I'm asking, like, you were won over through eight holes, and you're getting a shot a hole, so. Yeah.
Paul Bissonnette
Well, I don't think you've watched much recently. I just had the. For the front nine of my life. Now, you. We mentioned Marshall as a third. Do you chat with him frequently? Like, are you guys texting every week?
Nate MacKinnon
Not every week, but we. We probably text once a month. Yeah.
Paul Bissonnette
He's a funny guy.
Nate MacKinnon
Yeah. I was watching the interview when he. The roof was open and the pigeons.
Paul Bissonnette
Did you laugh?
Nate MacKinnon
I laughed. Yeah. I'm sorry. I did laugh because it's true. But I laughed at your joke too. The worst model of all time. So, you know.
Whitney
Yeah, that was funny.
Paul Bissonnette
Thank you. I appreciate that. Do you think that he would do it?
Nate MacKinnon
Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. I don't know if he golfs much though.
Keith Yandle
I don't think he does. But if he's got.
Kelly Chase
I don't know if that'd be a fair.
Nate MacKinnon
I don't know if that's fair.
Biz Nasty
Oh.
Paul Bissonnette
As far as you guys maybe want a couple straws?
Nate MacKinnon
We'll take a couple shots.
Paul Bissonnette
I think we'll let Marshon tee off from the ladies tease. That's what we'll do him for chirping me, calling me a pigeon. Do you. Do you laugh when you see like when he goes to Toronto and he just stirs it up the way that he stirs it up, like, are you so funny?
Nate MacKinnon
It's so funny. Like, I think he's just toying with the whole thing. Like, I don't think he means anything.
Paul Bissonnette
He says, no, I think we're in his world.
Keith Yandle
What do you say you ran marner out of town? That's when I'm like, this guy's the master.
Whitney
Yeah.
Keith Yandle
To say you ran him out of town. Yeah. It just sucks you guys ran them out. It's like this guy is a master at getting people.
Paul Bissonnette
We could maybe get it sponsored by Timmy's too, because they're doing the Timmy's commercials all together now.
Whitney
Yeah. Those are fun. The outtakes and those are hilarious.
Kelly Chase
Yeah.
Nate MacKinnon
We could get some nice sponsorships going.
Keith Yandle
Wait, all three of you do Timmy's or just you and Sid?
Nate MacKinnon
Yeah, yeah. Marshy. He's in a new one. Yep.
Keith Yandle
I haven't seen that.
Nate MacKinnon
He had his little teddy bear. Is that what they. Is that what. I'm not in Canada. I haven't even.
Paul Bissonnette
Yeah, that and I think cards. But Nate. Nate and Sid took team friendly deals with Tim Hortons just so they could add Marshawn. That's the type of leadership these guys are providing.
Nate MacKinnon
Big, big pay cut there.
Keith Yandle
Sean got a six year deal from Timmy Stuart. Awesome for him. Good luck.
Paul Bissonnette
You're the best.
Whitney
Thanks, Nate.
Paul Bissonnette
You're the best. That was incredible. What a surprise for. Is this our last live one on YouTube.
Keith Yandle
Last live show. Yeah, last live show. So the dog came. I know biz. Get a tattoo for it. Get a tattoo for it. I want to say congrats to Sweden, World juniors. We haven't been on because that was Monday night. Dude, that's that country. The way they're producing players. I texted Merles, who we all know is a Swedish fan. He was rooting for this. This championship. I said, you have to go back and find out why are they all such good skaters? They all fly. They all can move around out there. An incredible country. They like I said they wouldn't be shocked if they won the gold medal in Italy either at the Olympics. But I. Ivar Stenberg, what a player. I texted a few people. He's like Zetterberg, the way he kind of moved. And they said, yeah, better skater, too. Like, he. This guy was. Was incredible. So I think the number one, the race for number one pick, that's alive. I don't think going into the year, it was like, oh, it's McKenna. I think there's kind of more discussion now and then before we get to NHL. Also, Tynan Lawrence, who is a possible number one pick as well. He left Muskegon in the ushl. He's going to join bu. He was committed to BU for next year, but they're bringing him in halfway through. Stud player.
Whitney
How much did you have to pay?
Paul Bissonnette
Yeah, what did you have to give him boost?
Keith Yandle
I didn't have to do a thing. I didn't have to do a thing. He just wanted to come be a terrier sooner. Last year, they brought their goalie in, Big Mike. He was incredible. They lost a national title game halfway through. He came from the ushl, Omaha. So now they got Tynan Lawrence, and if he lights it up, then he's in the discussion for number one, right? If you're dominating college hockey, I think that that was the thing about celebrity. It was complete domination. So congrats to Sweden once again. And go bu. Big Mike, the goalie I bring up, he is a prospect for the New Jersey Devils. The New Jersey. Can we break Pasha on and don't even play. Don't even play the video. This is unbelievable. Pasha, this is something that you couldn't have imagined at any point in time leading up to this year. And I want to get. I want to give you a chance. Pasha, how. How mad were you at. Not at nine. Nothing. How mad were you last night against Pittsburgh? Where is your level of confidence in anything changing, anything turning around and break it down for us.
Pasha
I honestly wasn't even that. I wasn't even that mad at nine nothing. Like I was mad at one nothing, two nothing, three nothing. And then after that I was kind of happy. I was hoping they'd get 10 because, like, I would much rather that than them losing by one goal and. And have it stay status quo. I thought there's no way that that wasn't the straw that broke the camel's back. I am shocked that Keith and Fitzy still have a job. And then they shot. They had no show again last night. Like, I. I'm at a loss for words. This is the most frustrated I've ever been as a Devils fan.
Biz Nasty
Wow.
Pasha
There's been some dark times in like, whatever, 20, 14, 15, 16. But like, the team sucked back then. But in terms of like, expectations and talent on the roster and what I'm seeing right now, I'm completely shocked. But like, it's very clear this team needs a major shake up. Keith has lost the room and it's just like they have so many problems. Like, I don't. I don't even know where to begin. It's.
Whitney
Do you see any good, like, anything they can take that even looks somewhat decent or. It's all bad there.
Pasha
I mean, the weird thing is, is like, they're actually doing a decent job of like, controlling play and generating chances, but, like, they can't finish anything. And like any like, point blank shot is into the goalie's chest. Their. Their goal scored above expected is. Is dead last in the league by a long shot. And like, even in that Islanders game, like, they were like controlling play most of the game and just putting everything in Sorokin's chest. And then the aisles would just come down in a rush. Boom. Top shell, same thing. Another two minutes. Devil's kind of in the offensive zoom. Islanders down the rush. Boom.
Biz Nasty
Goal.
Pasha
Like, the Islanders didn't really control play, believe it or not, for a 9 nothing game. So, like, that's like the only silver lining I can see is that like, they're at least like somewhat generating chances even though they can't finish them. But like, yeah, there's not much to be optimistic about right now. But also like, well, it's weird. Before the 9 nothing game, Markstrom looked like he had finally turned a corner. I think he had strung together four or five solid starts in a row. And it was weird because everyone's like, okay, like now they're getting the saves, but the goals have disappeared. So it's just like nothing's Clicking.
Paul Bissonnette
Whack a mole.
Pasha
Yeah, yeah. Whack a mole. I'm. Yeah, it's. I'm shocked. I'm in shock.
Keith Yandle
Well, and. And so because you don't believe that Keith can get the room back and you don't believe Fitzy can make the moves possible, you want them both gone.
Pasha
I want them both gone.
Keith Yandle
So all of a sudden you have maybe the assistant GM taking role there. Like, how quickly. How quickly can you hire GM who's coaching the team? It seems like you can't really do both at the same time mid season. Maybe you can if you're lining up things away from the scene. But my thing is Devils fans seem pretty disgusted with ownership and about that. They're way more into all their other teams than maybe they are the Devils. Do you feel that?
Paul Bissonnette
Well, Pasha's tagging him on Twitter. The owners.
Keith Yandle
That was what I was getting at. He's got one. That's when I knew you were like full joker in jail mode when you're tagging the owners.
Pasha
Is that that crazy?
Paul Bissonnette
Yes, it is. I think that's like, you're acting like.
Pasha
I found their home addresses and I'm picketing outside of their house. These are public Twitter accounts. It's not that crazy to tag them.
Paul Bissonnette
But also, we talk about it all the time. Like, you've hired Fitzy, who played how many games in the NHL. I'm pretty sure he hit the thousand mark. And if he didn't, he was close. And you're. And. And then Keith, who's coached in the NHL before, so you have to trust the people that you hire and back off until you decide not to have them in the seat now.
Pasha
Yeah, but they've reached that point, buddy.
Paul Bissonnette
I understand, but I asked you about Keef at the start of the season because I basically. I don't dig. Right. I just ask. I felt like last year, with the injuries that they went through and the adversity they were going through, he kind of just kept playing the same card where he gets like, angry and maybe I don't know how the teaching or is going is getting through. I don't know what the relationship between him and the players. Like. And you basically said, like, there's no way Deborah would end up being the next guy in that seat. So if you are going to fire him, who you gonna hire? And you said that that wasn't going to be a possibility at the start of the year.
Pasha
I for sure said that. I'm not acting like I've been on this fire Key fire Fitzy train for a long time. On Monday's pod, I said I wasn't on the Fire Fitzy train. A lot has changed since the start of the year, let alone since Monday. I was a big Keef defender. I, I thought that he was doing a solid job, but it's very clear he's lost the room. And also it's made clear to me that even before this kind of little skid, that his coaching style isn't suited for the. The makeup of the roster. This needs to be a pond hockey rush team like they were in 2022. Fast, skilled, and they're playing a slow brand of hockey. So, yeah, I, I was a big Keef defender. I was a big Fitzy defender. But I've come to my wit's end.
Whitney
Do you like their roster? Oh, sorry. What?
Keith Yandle
No, go ahead.
Whitney
Like, looking at their roster. If you looked at it, do you. Would you. Especially going into the season, you're like, okay, I like our roster.
Pasha
So the only thing that's like, kept me from walking onto a bridge and making some big decisions is that I like their. I like their core. They're their top dogs. I like a lot. It's everything around it that I have a problem with. Like, I love Nico Heer, I love Jack Hughes, Luke Hughes. I'm bullish on, but he's had a horrible season. I like Timo Meyer, I like Jesper Brat. Those are the key pieces and I like that chorus. Just they're this, the surrounding pieces, the bottom six. Some of the defensemen like, it's. That is what needs change. So to me, at least their core is solid. If they didn't have a solid core, I think we'd have much bigger problems. That's why I'm remaining somewhat optimistic.
Whitney
So Fitzy got all those guys, so then you can.
Pasha
No, not really. Not really. It was Ray Sharrow's work.
Keith Yandle
But going into the year, you mentioned you really love the D. So now you're saying you, you know, you're bullish on Luke. You don't love what's around him. You were raven about your D, your D core. Well, I think when you say fire, fire, key, fire Fitzy. I, I understand that they lost nine. Nothing. They didn't have a penalty minute.
Pasha
Yeah, that's very concerning as well.
Keith Yandle
What's the coach and the GM have to do with literally every guy just taking a nine? Nothing, beating and not doing a thing? Yeah, I don't. Yeah, that's a fan. I'm looking at that and I'm saying all Right. We are bringing a new coach and a new gm. But are you going to be, Are you going to be able to make them care? Not saying they don't care, but in that game.
Paul Bissonnette
Yeah, like, you're like, who are your foxhole guys other than Dylan, where you trust in situations like that, that, like, who are your. You know who. Because I know, I think Miles Wood would have been in there.
Pasha
I know foxhole guys like Paul, Paul Collater will get dirty.
Keith Yandle
He'll.
Pasha
He'll drop the gloves. Like, I, I think Connor Brown throws some hits. He plays physical. But I agree with you. They need, they need more foxhole guys. They need more foxhole guys. And I think like, part of that is that like Keith had already lost the room and there's this sort of apathy already there before the Islanders game. I'm not defending it. There for sure. Should have been, you know, start running guys, start dropping the gloves, whatever, like tussle up once it's 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, nothing. But yeah, like I said, they have a lot of issues. So, yeah, it's very, very, very concerning.
Paul Bissonnette
If you, if they were to fire GM coach, are you essentially saying that that playoffs may not be a possibility this year? Are you, Are you essentially writing off this season?
Keith Yandle
I'll give you a 400 buyout right now.
Whitney
I won't.
Keith Yandle
No, no, no.
Scott Laughton
Okay.
Whitney
I think whoever, whoever invited Frank the Tank to that dinner, he's the one who should be fired.
Keith Yandle
He's the one invited to that dinner, that dinner at the same time they were 12, 4 and 1, I think. And since then, I want to say they're like 9, 15 and 2, or so.
Biz Nasty
So.
Keith Yandle
I know. And that that coincides with the injury to their best player. But my last thing is, you say these guys have earned the rights for the no trade. You believe that they should take a trade anyways. You don't really agree with the no trade thing and actually wanting to be there, even though you earn that in your deal. So you've said, Fitzy, to get rid of them, trade them and give away draft picks just to get rid of those contracts. How, how are you willing to get rid of draft picks when Grinelli's telling me on the chat that you have the 25th ranked prospect pool in the NHL? No, granted that could be from one site or one list and that could be higher in another. It's not like you have a ton coming. You kind of need your draft picks.
Pasha
I, I don't look at it that way. I think like the Time to win is now. Or at least I thought that before. And like I don't care about next year's first that might turn into a good player in three, four years. Like you it's addition by subtraction. I don't care if you lose the Dougie Hamilton trade but getting rid of that player, opening up the the roster spots for kovacevich and Nemet's two righties and also that 9 million bucks you can then better spend on a top six winger and a centerman. I don't care about drafts. The time to win is now. Like you know this core is not getting any younger. I wouldn't say like the windows closing by any means. I think the windows just opened and it's tough because the the core hasn't had legit cracks like. Like I'm not trying to fire Ricochet at the least. But it's not like this is the lease now where the A healthy chorus had eight cracks the playoffs and failed. They've had one legit crack at the playoffs. They beat the Rangers and then lost to the Canes. And then the last two years they've been so hurt. So this core has had one legit crack at the playoffs. It was their first ever crack. They beat, they, they won a series. So it's hard to kind of write everyone off being like this core is not working when they haven't had a fair shake.
Paul Bissonnette
Who's your guy? Like who do you put in those positions? Have you seen online who their the chatters about if they do replace both seats and if it's just coach, who do you got?
Pasha
I haven't seen any chatter if my personal choice would be DeBoer. I love Petey DeBoer as a coach. I have no idea who would replace Fitzgerald but at this point like if for no other reason than just shaking things up. There has to be something this sitting on your hands, sitting around like it's like it's mind numbing. They need to shake up.
Keith Yandle
Well state of the union right there. From a lost puppy, a lost soul.
Paul Bissonnette
Right now Stamcoast might be able to score some goals for you.
Keith Yandle
It still doesn't want money.
Pasha
Well no, it's not. It's not about Stamcoast. A player with what money he makes 8 million bucks.
Keith Yandle
I'm just saying it's been mentioned a lot that like the fan base, I don't know if the team really when Quinn Hughes went to Minnesota that was kind of the the ultimate kick while they were all down and it's Just they've. Everyone stayed down. So you had mentioned I you didn't want to send a ton that way considering you could sign him in two years. Now you just worry, worry, worry that he's going to sign in Minnesota. You'll never get the crack at him. But we'll see what happens with the Devils moving forward. Get rid of Pasha. Sorry Pasha. I'd like to stay quickly in in the metro because Philadelphia guys, what a story.
Paul Bissonnette
This is unreal.
Keith Yandle
Are they second place in the Atlantic right now? No, third place. They're one point back at the Islanders with two games in hand. The Trevor Ziegler show against Anaheim was that Tuesday night. What a, what a night. This guy was on fire. His interview after the game was incredible. Complete bounce back year. I think people were questioning where his game was at. He gets out of Anaheim. He's flourished in Philly. He loves being there. G put in the chat like he's got to be resigned. Is that a nine or ten million dollar a year contract? Like I've read other things that said nine a year, five year deal biz. Have you been. Did you expect this out of him?
Paul Bissonnette
I expected talk to challenge him and, and get to a, a different level than maybe we saw in Anaheim. He had that big first year and then obviously things weren't going well with, with the coach not seeing eye to eye. Don't know with how much the relationship with Verbeek had to do with that. They dealt with all the. But I think you're just seeing a player that you know, he, he gets out of a horrible situation, he's given new life a team where I mean I don't know what type of expectations people had in Philadelphia. I don't think it certainly wasn't this to this degree and he's being given that ice time and that opportunity and he's flourishing with it. And I couldn't be happier for the kid, man. I think that everything happened really fast when he first got to Anaheim. I think he was on the COVID of the EA video game. You know he does the Michigan, he's you know, sports center here, ESPN here, like getting interviewed. So it was probably a hard couple years for him. And despite that, all you hear about how is unbelievable a guy is behind the scenes like still with his teammates and how he's wanted. So I, I couldn't be happier for the kid, man. And it's awesome, it's. It's awesome to see.
Keith Yandle
Yeah.
Whitney
You can just tell that he's, he's, he's like a Little kid out there having fun. His interview after, he's smiling, having a good time. He's chirping the. You know, the Anaheim brass for how much, how quick the phone call was with them. I mean, look at the fans. You can tell the fans love him there in Philly. He's not a typical Philadelphia fan that everybody loves, where they're going to be running guys through the glass and all that stuff, but they're. They're appreciating what he brings on the offensive side. His shootouts have been amazing. He's gonna get a. Like, I'd give him whatever Jack Hughes makes. I'd give him that. Like, he's. You know, they kind of remind me of each other of players, but I just. I love the fact that he's out there having fun again. You can tell, like, that his. His love for the game is back, whether he lost it or not. But I. I really love just to see the joy in his face when he's playing.
Paul Bissonnette
And we're nice coming in, too, where you have a player who is this highly touted prospect who essentially is saying, I don't want to play for your organization. And then you get this guy who's basically just chucked away, who's coming there and embrace the city and. And thriving there. I think that that's the turnaround story where now they get to focus on Zigris as opposed to losing Cutter Goche. So to not only feel that for as long as the season's been, but going head to head and then your guy is first star and doing all that, that's a. That's a pretty good night.
Keith Yandle
I think that that night was probably the most electric night they've had in that building for a while. And. And it was all. It was Cutter. It was Zegras being great, out dueling him. Cutter still scores in the game, pretty sick. And then the Philly crowd being alive. I. I had clicked off our zoom. Did G put up the picture of the celebration after the goal?
Paul Bissonnette
Did you get yes with the phone down?
Keith Yandle
No.
Paul Bissonnette
No.
Keith Yandle
There's another. Oh, I don't. Can we not show the one G? I think RA Tweeted it as well. It's unreal. It's like shooting down on him. He's sober and you see tons of fans behind him just going bananas. And the Flyers haven't had a ton to cheer for. And when Keith said, not the typical Philly fan favorite, where, yeah, they love, you know, Bobby Clark style. Lindros killing people when he was in his. Heyday, Mike Richards, how he played. They're. They're starving for an offensive. I'll say superstar. I don't. I'm not gonna put Zegris there, but he's a star. And that's been kind of the issue with, like, the lack of ice time for Mitchkov. I keep saying, like, I trust Rick Talkett as a coach. I think he knows what he's doing. The team's winning. It seems like there's a faction of fans disgusted with his ice time. I think he'd be getting it if. If the effort and the superstar level potential that they believe in was there. But right now it's not. But that's why they love Zigres. They want a game breaker in Philly. They haven't had one in so long. That picture's incredible.
Biz Nasty
Wow.
Whitney
Because Philly fans understand, like, they know the. The whole trade thing, everything that happened, what this game means to Zigris, what it means to go to you. Like, they understand the nuances of the game. So that. That picture is unbelievable. He should have that in his bedroom.
Paul Bissonnette
Another thing, too, is you have all this talent and things aren't going well, and you almost feel like you're at the mercy of this, this NHL club. Right. I'm sure there was plenty of periods over the course of them negotiating the contract with Anaheim or him having to sign that bridge deal and then play through it and not get the reps or the ice time he wanted. Battling with his coach where he wanted to be like, get me the out of here. I'll go. He probably thought, I'd rather go play in The American League, 22 minutes a night just to be able to, like, have fun and be that kid again. And I'll throw it back at you two. Have you ever kind of felt that where. And then you had the opportunity as like a. A game where you could shove it back to an organization that maybe did you dirty a little bit.
Keith Yandle
You want to know my return to Pittsburgh?
Whitney
Yeah.
Paul Bissonnette
Yeah. Oh, okay. Here we go.
Keith Yandle
I talked to you about that, about shoving it in their face and letting them know what a mistake they made because they had won the cup. Right? And so it's like, hey, you wanna. You won the cup, but, yeah, you'll see what. You see what you're missing these days. So I went into Pittsburgh on Anaheima. I think we lost four. Nothing. I was minus four.
Paul Bissonnette
Okay.
Keith Yandle
Oh, I showed them biz. I showed Pittsburgh.
Scott Laughton
You.
Keith Yandle
You around and trade me. You'll. You'll regret the day that was mine. Somebody's face.
Paul Bissonnette
That was, that was great delivery buddy.
Whitney
You're like, wow, that trade. We really hit a home run.
Paul Bissonnette
Oh, that's where when like hands are young.
Keith Yandle
What a trade.
Paul Bissonnette
That's if they have, like, ran me. They start 2 and 12. But then you come to town and they get the win and see that so you're. He looks over your job.
Nate MacKinnon
Safe.
Paul Bissonnette
Hey, hey. That's a job saver.
Keith Yandle
But wait till you see tonight, boys. I' ma send Mellon arena all home pissed off besides the wicking fans.
Paul Bissonnette
Eminem, you walking and don't, don't, don't. These weak arms are heavy wits back about to snap six pizzas up.
Keith Yandle
I tried to get spaghetti in there with my legs.
Paul Bissonnette
Won't box out. Won't change in time. Leave my guys in a bad spot.
Keith Yandle
All the time in a bind. All right. Oh, that would rhyme. My rhyme. Game's off. But another, another team down. Bad Winnipeg. And last night was, was unreal. All the losing that they've, that they've done and how bad they've been, and they get up 3:1 on my Oilers. McDavid scores a goal with, like, 20 seconds left in the second, but Winnipeg's. They're holding on to the lead halfway through the third. And this is kind of their season, like, in a nutshell. Pass goes right to Jonathan Toews. I don't know how it went through his stick, but it was tape to tape. It might have been rolling a little. And it's a turnover. Hyman ends up putting it back. Back of the net, ties it up. Then the Oilers get a power play. Bouchard scores. About two minutes later, Winnipeg loses four. Three doesn't get a point. So G wrote, is it time to break up the core? Like, I, yeah, I, I, I actually don't know because I haven't watched them enough. I just see that they're just losing and losing and winning the President's Trophy and being this bad. I don't think it's ever happened before.
Whitney
They're 3 and 20 in their last 23 games.
Keith Yandle
I, I would, I didn't know it was that bad. I thought it was like 3 and 12 in their last 15.
Whitney
3 and 20 in there. Like, that is tough times coming to the rink. Like, if you're just those.
Keith Yandle
Are you not. How are you not if Pasha wants a new coach and a gm? Like, I'm just surprised. Are jets fans looking for a new coach here? I mean, they won the President's trophy last year, but this is like, are they, are they kind of just throwing it away. Like, you have to do something. If you're 3 and 20, you're either saying, all right, this season's done, or you're going to try to save it. I have no idea.
Whitney
But it's like when you got the best goalie in the league. It's. It reminds me of the Montreal days when they had Carrie Price for all those years and not doing well. Like when you have the best goalie in the league every year. Like, you got to do something because the window is closing there, right? He's getting older, but at some point you have to either trade him. But like, how do you trade your. The best goalie in the world? Has that ever happened besides the Paddy Wa trade? So it's, it's. Something's got to give there. I don't know what it is. Or is it a legit. A relocation again?
Keith Yandle
Well, we'll see.
Paul Bissonnette
I would say Tank, but there's not a chicken dick's chance. They're getting the first overall pick.
Keith Yandle
Oh, no.
Paul Bissonnette
Or second.
Keith Yandle
Do you know Calgary's never had a top three pick?
Paul Bissonnette
That's crazy.
Keith Yandle
I saw that. I was surprised. We got another guest right now. Very special guest. Unreal Human being warrior Kelly Chase. Let's bring him in. G. And I should say Chaser, co host of an awesome pod. There it is.
Kelly Chase
Ice Guardians.
Keith Yandle
How you been, Chaser? What's going on, boys?
Kelly Chase
How are you?
Keith Yandle
Great.
Kelly Chase
I've been watching your stuff as usual. It's been great. You make me laugh and it's been, it's been okay, man. A little bit of a struggle. But hey, you know, it's. It's nothing to whine about. Somebody's got it worse somewhere.
Paul Bissonnette
Chaser, I've been seeing these clips, like non stop. You and Holly with the old guys snapping it around. It's been awesome. How much have you been enjoying being in the podcast space? And it isn't. Isn't it great? Just like setting the catfire up and telling all these old school stories.
Kelly Chase
It's the best. And, and the funny thing is, is, you know, we wanted to kind of start slow. So we're sort like, you know, let's get some of our old buddies on here. And some of the stories, like, Wendell and I grew up together, so his views, when they went over whatever it was a million or whatever, were like, well, you know, you had all Ontario, you know, or Canada. Anybody that drove with John Deere was on, you know, listen to that. But when you had like, like Butchy, I don't Know if you heard Basil McCray the other day tell the story about the toughest fight he ever had. He said, the toughest fight he ever had. He goes, well, it was easy. He goes, that's when Chaser brought me home at 4 in the morning from East St. Louis. And he said, and I had puke on my shirt, and my wife Jill met me at the door. He goes, that was a fight of my life. And the guys, and we're kind of sitting there and I'm looking, and she goes, and I puked on my shirt. And. And she said, you puked all over yourself? And he said, no, Chaser did that. He gave me 20 bucks for the dry cleaning. And she reached in his pocket. There was 40 bucks in there. And she said, There's $40 in here. He said, well, you in my pants, too.
Paul Bissonnette
That's the craziest part.
Kelly Chase
And Holly and I are hollowing, right, because we don't know what's coming out of Basil's mouth. And then when we start reliving the Garth Butcher stuff, you know, when he was our captain, with some of this buffoonery, you know, and giving it to Grimmer, and, oh, my God, I just. I. I sit back and laugh because I witnessed it, you know, so to hear it the first time would be fun. It doesn't get old, guys. You guys. You guys have had a lot of your guests on that you played with, and it never gets old. Never gets old because we don't miss the game till the playoffs. We miss the locker room. We miss the guys. That's all we miss. And so for those of you guys listening, they got millions listening. This about missing the game, that doesn't happen until the playoffs. And what you miss is being in that locker room with those guys, because those stories, and there's not as many of them anymore because unfortunately, the telephone, the video and everything has ruined it for a lot of them. But I'll tell you what, there's some great stories out there.
Whitney
I mean, just Holly and I. Actually, my first training camp, Holly was there, so I kind of got to be around him a little bit. It was just so cool. Cool to be around. He came in, he broke the bike. So no one had to do the bike test. It was one of the best things I've ever seen. But just like the way that he beats to his own drum. He was telling the story with Butch about your coach Sutter. He was like, if he doesn't start coaching differently, I'm not playing. And Butch had to beat him up at lunch, like, just.
Kelly Chase
But he was like forehead at the Whistling Oyster in Toronto.
Whitney
But that's just how he was. He just beat to his own drum, huh?
Kelly Chase
Well, listen, boys, at training camp one year, he came in and he, you know, he knows what he's supposed to do, but he's not doing it. He's not going to do it right? So they're going to do the vertical jump. And he, and he says to the kid there, this kid's just some physiotherapist that's in training. And he says, you got to put your hands in the air and how. And see how high you can reach. And Holly goes, what? And you know that I'm not doing that. And the kid goes, well, they just want. And then see how high you can put your hands because they want to see, you know. And then he's got to jump. And Holly goes, I'll tell you how high I can reach that effing high. 86 times last year. Now I'm not doing that. And he just walks away from this kid. And this kid doesn't know where to shit or wine is watched because you have told Brett hall, who just scored 86 goals, that he's, that he's got a jump in the air. So.
Whitney
Holy.
Kelly Chase
Just walked away and never did the test. One walked Keenan over to the, to the fitness award. That was the plaque on the wall. He said, hey, Mike, come here for a second. Keenan comes over, walks over. He goes, what? Who the hell are any of these guys? Was it one guy that played more than 10 games in the NHL in the fitness award thing for the Blues? And, you know, he just, he couldn't help himself if he. And, and he didn't just like, it wasn't like he brought one of the assistant captains over, he brought the head coach and GM over to tell him, hey, look at how stupid this is. Anyway, I, I, I love the guy, man. I roomed with him for seven and a half of the nine we played together. Oh, my God, boys, I'll tell you, if I could tell you all of them, but, man, I'll tell you, I.
Paul Bissonnette
Would have been exhausted for games. Chaser. You guys must have been laughing the, Especially the day before. Like, what time would you guys be getting to bed at night before?
Kelly Chase
Well, here's the, here's the funny thing. He. We didn't miss a lot of curfews, okay? Like, we really didn't. But when we went out, we went, we went out, okay? And started early. He, I used to say to him all the time. I didn't room with you. I roomed with your suitcase. You were never in the room. And so, like, he. He would just, like, you know. Oh, yeah, good one. But I'll tell you what he did. We got off the bus, and he turned around and he'd say to all its seekers, all the autograph people, I'll. I'll sign tonight, signing in the morning, but I'm not doing both. And of course, they all want him to sign at night or whatever. So I'd go to the room, and I would put a block on the phone, do not disturb on the phone, pin the curtains up, turn the temperature down to 62 degrees, change into a pair of jeans and get ready for. When he came up in the room. He would just throw his bag, go, all right, let's go. And we would go out, and we would go out for dinners, big dinners, whatever, right? And once in a while, we, you know, we. We went out. Well, I told this story about Montreal because Montreal, Holly went out for lunch at a famous ballet. And. And so he's in the shape for lunch and now dinner. And now I've gone and went shopping. And then I've decided I'm gonna go back to the room. And I'm back in the room. It's like 10:30. Dog Wilson calls me. He goes, chaser, you gotta go get your boy. And I'm like, where is he? He says. He said, he's. He's not. You know, we stay at the western side. He's next door. I go still? He goes, yeah. I go, jesus. So I get dressed and I go, tonight, you walk in, hey, what's up? You know? And he's. Good Time Charlie. So I said, hey, bud, come on, let's go. He goes, what? It's. Don't worry, we're all right. We're all right. And in the paper in the morning, it was a French paper, had the showdown, and it had a split shot of him and Patty. And then in the English version of it, it said the shootout. All right? And I said, come on, bud, let's go. He goes, don't worry, I'm fine. And finally I said, hey. And so I'm pulling him by the ear. It's now about maybe midnight. I get him out of there. I said, come on, we're staying here tomorrow night. If you need to come back, you can come back, or whatever. But he. But he had found a whole bunch of new friends in there by then. So I. I get him, peel them out of there. He won't talk to me, doesn't talk to me on the way back, doesn't talk to me in the morning, doesn't talk to me in pregame. Ozer has his nap, goes to the game, fires three in the first period in. Okay. And then he's standing by the door. Now, Holly had no rituals, I'm telling you. Zero. When he went on the ice, who he followed? None. Nothing. Nothing. Did he. That he bother with the rituals. Right. But he's standing by the door and I'm the last guy off the ice. You know, it was a Twister and I, and I'm thinking, oh, this ought to be good. So he comes over, I get over to the door and he goes, I told you we didn't have to go last night. This French guy can't stop me. I'm like, not, like not. How about, hey, thanks for dragging me out of there. I told you.
Keith Yandle
And then I would have had five.
Paul Bissonnette
Yeah, he couldn't wait to see score three and then wait there at the door at the end to tell you that. What a guy.
Kelly Chase
Oh yeah, he was. He was. I love him, man. I love him. And you know, my son Will is doing a lot of the editing and, well, all of the editing and, and we've had a few saves already in the podcast where he said stuff and we're like, hey, you can't say that. I thought it was a podcast. I, I know, but you still can't say that.
Paul Bissonnette
We, we had a gentleman on. We took about seven minutes of an hour, hour long interview out. He was very old school. We had to save his bacon. But there was one story that you guys kept and I just saw the clip. I forget how it went down, but it had to do with like a, like a street fight outside of, at a park light or something. What was this one?
Kelly Chase
Oh, no, that was in Peoria with Twister.
Paul Bissonnette
Okay, what happened there?
Kelly Chase
We were heading to practice and we had to practice at the practice facility address at the Carver arena. And this guy got, pardon me, boys, road rage. Pull up to a gas station light. And this guy jumps up, he's, he's hammering on the, on the horn, hammer on the horn. And there's three car loads of us. And Twister just gets out of the car and pounds the, out of the guy. And the guy's feet were still up in the car like you're still in the car. But boys, we all had our hockey equipment on. I, I mean, I mean the whole, the whole works of us. So like who are we hiding? Right? And you know, I mean, so you can imagine by the time practice is over, Bobby players. Well, what the hell did you guys do last night? And I don't want to know. Don't tell me. Then I got to tell the blues and he went off the ice. And then of course, they wanted to know who the hell beat the hell out of the guy at the light. And what happened. And we, you know, they. Nothing came of it. But not very smart, man. Sixteen guys jump on the cars, pound one guy out. He's playing on the corner. And we all got our hockey equipment on. Everything but the skates.
Whitney
Is there any team scarier though than your softball team that you had?
Kelly Chase
I don't believe so. Yeah. If you want to. If you Google a pretty interesting thing. It's. It says, I think it's called. What's it? Is it the toughest team there ever was? Is that what it's called or something like that?
Keith Yandle
I think softball team.
Kelly Chase
And it was a fast pitch softball team. And it's competitive in Canada. Fast pitch. You know, I know it's a. It's more of a women's sport. I'm going to get in trouble for probably saying that. But it is down here. Much more competitive up there. That's the big thing. Okay? And we had Melrose playing first base. We had Yanni at second, or Killer Kaminsky at second. We had Wendell at shortstop, Joey Kosher at third base. Donnie Clark, Wendell's older brother, catching. And then me, Kerry Clark, Corey Kosher, Neil Clark, all. We were all fielders. And then, and, and so, so it was just a hockey team. And we had two farmers. There it is. There it is, boys. Two old goat farmers.
Keith Yandle
Toughest goalie ever.
Kelly Chase
Oh, Mike Blaski, he was my cousin. He drafted by the Flyers and are signed by the Flyers and played in their minor league. I'm telling you boys, it was hilarious. And you know, guys would round the bases and catch a piece of a guy once in a while just to see what was going on. And one time, I remember Donnie Clark got run over at home plate. We were playing this team, Tisdale, and it's funny because Jake neighbor's dad walked up to me the other day at a game and he said, hey, I gotta tell you a story. And I go, what? He go, I go and tells me, you know, he's Jake's dad. And I said, nice to meet you, sir. He goes, you. He goes, you don't know this, but he goes, I played in the game when we had the brawl in Tisdale in fastball. Well, he goes, it wasn't much of a brawl, but. And Joey Kosher was playing short that day. Wendell was at third and Don got run over. And the fastest guy at a home plate was Barry Melrose of all guys. He smokes this guy. And then we have this big melee. Well, I'm trotting in from the field and Neil Clark's at center field and he's standing there with his arms crossed. He goes, what are you doing? I go, come on. He goes, what are we going in there for? I go, I, I don't know. Like, what the hell are we gonna do? You got Joey Wendell, Killer, Killer Kaminsky, Melrose and Don Clark. And there was no sense me going in into the middle of the home plate area because it was nothing that I was going to accomplish as a 22 year old that those guys hadn't cleaned up already.
Paul Bissonnette
Did you handle, did you grow up with Wendell, like, like living near him?
Kelly Chase
Yeah. Yeah.
Paul Bissonnette
Was he always a phenom coming up, like known as this tough work?
Kelly Chase
Yeah, yeah. And you know what's crazy? I don't. I. Well, I know of one street fight that Wendell was in. Joey won a weekend, Killer won a weekend. You know, I had my Wendell never. And as a matter of fact, we had a. We got into it with a bunch of bikers in, in a bar called Karoki Bar. And, and his younger brother Sharkey was just tough, like, just tough, just like Wendell, but six foot two. And he grabbed this biker and swung him around and broke the guy's leg because the foosball table was bolted to the floor and he leg whipped the pole and snapped his leg. Now, boys, 90 degrees.
Whitney
Jesus.
Kelly Chase
And, and Wendell is standing there when a. Goes, carrying, caring, and he, and he grabs Sharkey by. We call him Sharkey grabs a shark, lifts him up. He goes, that's enough. This guy pulled his coat over his, his leather over his head. And he looked like a different person. Like he looked like somebody. I don't know what the hell happened when he, when he broke his leg and went down and Terry started punching him. He looked one way and when he got up, he looked like a different human being. It was a mess. And Wendell, Wendell had a hold of the guy and Joey and Don are just walking in and Joey fires a shuffleboard rocket. This group now, if that hits somebody, that's it, right?
Whitney
Dead.
Kelly Chase
And, and Don runs at the guy that Wendell's got a hold of, thinks, well, Wendell can't be fighting. He's the first overall pip. So he suckers this guy who's got a broken leg and already disfigured. And just smack, down he goes. And at the time. And you. And you can check with these guys because they're all the guys that were there, but Lane Lambert, Kevin Kaminsky. Lane was working at the hockey school with a guy by the name of Coral. Not Rob Coral, but he played Naturanda. Anyway, those two guys had walked in. Brad Lauer was there. They'll tell you. It was a complete. It was roadhouse boys.
Whitney
Yeah.
Keith Yandle
And, like, who are those guys? Local softball team. And.
Kelly Chase
And it was hilarious. We had a great time. We. We. We just all stuck together. And we're very fortunate group to grow up. We all grew up there, you know, so for us, we imagine. McDavid, I'm gonna play fastball this summer. What? No, you're not, Wendell. No problem. You know, and. And the people that would come to watch us because of Wendell was unbelievable. Like, you know, he was. Well, every farmer in Saskatchewan wanted to. You know, they loved him, right? And he was such a humble guy, and he's such a good human being.
Paul Bissonnette
Oh, he's the best.
Kelly Chase
The best.
Paul Bissonnette
He's. Would you say he's the most famous person from Saskatchewan?
Kelly Chase
Gordy. How.
Paul Bissonnette
Okay, that's. Yeah, we'd have to beat that day.
Keith Yandle
Where he was from base.
Paul Bissonnette
Yeah.
Kelly Chase
Gordy. And then Wendell. Like, Wendell right now. And then an army.
Paul Bissonnette
Did you get a chance to.
Kelly Chase
Boys, did I get. Are you setting me up here?
Paul Bissonnette
I'm setting you up right on a T, buddy.
Kelly Chase
Okay.
Whitney
Softball.
Kelly Chase
Gordy Howe. I'm in Hartford going to camp. I get to Toronto airport, I see Gordie Howe. I can't believe I'm looking at Gordy Howe. Finally I get enough mustard in me, and I walk over And I say, Mr. Howe, my name is Kelly Chase, and I just want to thank you. I played baseball at Gordie Howe Park. I played football in Gordie Howe bowl, and I played hockey in Gordie Howe Arena. And thanks for everything you've done for us kids in Saskatchewan. Sit down, lad. Sit down. Talking. Where are you going? I said, I'm going to Hartford with you, and I'm going to camp. He goes, no, that's great. He goes, you know, what round you get drafted? And I said, I didn't get drafted. I'm a free agent. And they just must have needed some guys. And so he asked me if I would. If I would sign a camp trial. And so. And I was 18, so you know, he goes, well, that's great. So we're talking for a bit, and they cancel our flight. And they said, Mr. Howe. But before they cancel the flight, they tell him first, say, we have you set up in the hotel, in the. In the Marriott, in.
Paul Bissonnette
That's possible airport.
Kelly Chase
And. And Whit, you know what it's like to spend a couple nights in Toronto Airport.
Keith Yandle
Oh, Pearson geez.
Kelly Chase
So. So we. He goes, come on. And she goes, are you guys together? He goes, yeah, we're rooming together, boys. I'm rooming with Gordy.
Keith Yandle
Okay.
Kelly Chase
Yeah. God's honest truth. And. And when Mark tells the story, Mark, how now tells the story. He. He stretches it a bit, but anyways, I get up to the room, he goes, throw your. Throw your bags and let's go have a steak and a beer. Well, I mean, not even legal enough to drink beer yet, but I'm. I'm like. Like I can't get downstairs with him. And I'm sitting there, and we're talking, and he says, you got to make sure they know who you are, son. He goes, because they didn't draft you, okay? So none of those scouts are going to sit in a meeting and say, let's, you know, go to bat for this kid. So he said, you got to make sure they know exactly who you are. So he said, if you. You score, you celebrate like it's a goal. He said, if you hit, make it a big hit and. And make it matter, make sure everyone knows you hit him. If you fight, he goes, you fight so that they know who you are. So, okay, so I go out and Billy Roots, who. The only thing I know about Billy Rood is I watched him with the Leafs on TV on Hockey Night in Canada, and I got his hockey card. But he throws a bad pass to a guy, and I smoke the guy. The guy, the kid gets up. He's. He's played in College. He's 24. He didn't know how to fight. But he came after me, and he got third. Actually, he didn't do bad compared to Billy. Billy came after me, and Billy got third. And then I felt awful, but I was like, you know what? He's. He's a veteran player. But see, you know, he came after me, but he felt bad for the passing mate. So, anyways, the next day, my roommate is Paul Wallace. Paul goes in the morning, hey, kid, you keep your head up out there today, okay? And I'm like, yeah, yeah, yeah. So I. I go out on the ice and off the face off. The fenceman jumps me and smashes me in the face. Knocks me down. Pounds like. I don't even have my gloves on. I don't even get my gloves up. And I'm pissed off. And I'm. And I'm like, I'm. I'm getting this guy, right? So I said, I'm. I'm yelling at him off the bench, yelling at him off the bench. Tex Evans is the coach, head coach, but he's on my. He's coaching our team that day. Text goes, hey, kids, sit down. He's trying to save my life. He doesn't realize. I don't realize, because I'm this dumb rookie that all these veteran players are pissed off at me, right? They're. They're. They're pissed off and they want a piece of me. But I don't know this. I'm just this dumb kid off the farm. So he won't put me out there. He won't put me out there. He won't put me out there. I'm telling you guys, I went out the third shift of the game, and I didn't get out. We played two halves. I didn't get another shift.
Keith Yandle
I thought he was just mad at you maybe.
Whitney
Yeah.
Kelly Chase
Zambonis come out on the ice. This guy's leaning down on the net, talking to Stevie Weeks. I make the turn behind the Zamboni, and I give him a stick right over the head. I give him what's left of the stick in the stomach, and I jump on him and I start smoking, okay? And I'm pissed off. And at that point, everyone's on top of me. Any. Anybody that was not off the ice for the intermission thing is on top of me. Well, in the second half, I got a fight. Sean Cronin, Paul McDermott, like, it was like this kid, Chris Brandt. I was just like, oh, my God. And the only reason I didn't have to fight. Tough guy's name there, you might know, because it was back with Tory.
Paul Bissonnette
So you just. Three fights, back to back, back to back.
Kelly Chase
Like, not. Not no change, no Texas saying, don't just stay out there. In other words, you dumb little prick. And. And, you know, Cronin's massive. Chris Brandt was tough. The only reason Tori Robertson didn't kick the. Out of me, he was on the bench, and he would skate around once in a while, but he had broke his leg, and he had a rod in his leg still. And he was yelling at me. I'm like, oh, my God. And I'm thinking, And I go off the ice to shower hour. And I'm thinking in my head, okay, I got two more days. And they're gonna make cuts and, you know, I'll go back to Saskatoon. I'm gonna be. I'm gonna have to fight, like 20 fights in the shower, whatever, right? I'm. And no one on my own team will talk to me. I mean, I. I can tell. I've. I. I got, you know, so. I'm not feeling great about myself at this point. Boys, we're at Avon Old Farms. We. We. I walk out of the arena to the bus about five minutes before the bus is going to take off, and this big old arm comes around me, and it's Gordie Howe. And he says, hey, kid, they know who you are.
Paul Bissonnette
Now, that is unbelievable.
Keith Yandle
If I ever hear the saying, don't meet your idols, you'll get disappointed. I'll remember that story 100.
Kelly Chase
And you know what? He stood in front of you. I'll tell you what a gentleman he is. He stood in front of that bus till at least five minutes after it was supposed to leave. And no one's going to say to Gordy, no one's saying to Gordy, get him on the bus. So I get on the bus, and everyone's looking at me like, oh, he knows Gordy, right? I get to my hotel room, My message lights on. It's. It's Marty Howe. He goes, hey, kid, how are you doing? It's Marty. Give me a call. So I call Marty. I go, hey, hey, Marty. Kelly Chase. He goes, heard you had a tough morning. I said, well, yeah, I probably did it to myself, you know. I said. He said, listen, we're going to check some lobster traps on the boat, and I want you to come on the boat. Dad said to grab you, take you out. I said, I think I better just stay here and ice down a little bit, I think, but I appreciate you asking me. And he's like, no, we're coming to get you. And by we, I don't know who that is. I get on the boat, it's Quenville. Francis, Shane Shirla, Marty, Kevin Deneen, who got hurt at the Canada Cup. And there was another guy there, that was Liu. Anyways, I'm on the boat with the veterans. I never fought one more time. At training camp, we went into Boston. I fought twice in Boston in an exhibition game. I was there for another five days. They sent me home. Well, they offered me a contract. I said, Mr. Francis, with all due respect, I don't think I'm ready for this. I think I need another year of junior. And I went back to junior, and they offered me a contract. At the end of the year. I signed with the Blues. Bobby Plager and Patty Genoa got Twister Night aside. I'll tell you what. Gordie Howe changed. He changed my. He changed my life. But I was an ordinary little bastard to start with. But if he. I'm sitting there thinking I'm gonna embarrass him for what happened, I'm not gonna let that happen. So I was pretty lucky to fall into.
Bugsy Watson
Holy.
Keith Yandle
That's incredible.
Nate MacKinnon
That is one.
Paul Bissonnette
That might be the top story I've ever heard.
Keith Yandle
And Chaser. That's. That's probably. That's Gordy going in and being like, all right, guys, he's. He's had enough. Like this kid, right? He's calling off dogs.
Kelly Chase
Well, I guarantee you, he went in that scout's room and. And made some racket because I could.
Paul Bissonnette
He was probably like, hey, boys, like, I might have given this guy the wrong advice.
Keith Yandle
I. I told this guy to do this.
Paul Bissonnette
I'm gonna. I'm gonna eat this one.
Kelly Chase
Well, the funny thing about it is, is that, you know, like, I. I. You know, I. I was gonna go there and just play the way I played anyway, but I sure as hell wouldn't have gone out. And. Well, who knows? I. I don't think I would have cracked anybody with my stick when the Zambonis were out there. But I. But I was just. I was embarrassed, first of all. And then I. I have this in the back of my head of this. This guy saying, you know what you get? You're getting one. Don't mess up the chance. And that's kind of why I think I reacted the way I did.
Whitney
That must be because everyone you talk to and you mention your name, they just say how good of a teammate you were. Always there for your guys. You know, obviously, it being the fighter you. Those. You guys are. The. You guys are our protectors, right? You take care of your teammates on and off the ice. But is. You think that that kind of stemmed from that, too? Just a guy of Gordy, or it's just kind of how you were?
Kelly Chase
Well, you know what? It's Whit that asked me that, right? Boys, I can't see is the answer. Well, here's. Here's the thing. I'm struggling a bit right now with the sight and the hearing, and the hardest thing for me is not to run at the fight right now, you know, Got A caregiver. Got a. You know, just struggling with some stuff. But I've always wanted. I never. I always wanted to be like, you know, whose car we taking? I wanted to be that guy.
Nate MacKinnon
Yeah.
Kelly Chase
I want to be the 3am guy. And the. And the craziest thing about it is when I grew up with those guys that I grew up with, I thought everyone was like that because that group was, hey, call Wendell right now, and he's coming. Call Joey right now. He's coming. Kill her. Well, enough said, you know, like, so I don't really know if it's the way our dads brought us up, and they were all friends. I don't know. I don't know. I don't.
Keith Yandle
I.
Kelly Chase
But I. I really miss. Like, I want to help people, and I think that part of it was ingrained in me from being young. But. But I think when Gordy, you know, he made a great point about, don't miss your opportunity. Don't miss your chance. Take your sway.
Keith Yandle
You know, you never have Chaser. You never have, buddy.
Kelly Chase
I've been very lucky because I've had great teammates. I've had. Played on some really good teams. Unfortunately, we never won the cup here until 19. And I was, you know, broadcasting it. Not the same. But to see the community and what happened in the community and. And the way people reacted was awesome. It was so great. And so that's the blessing of it all. Like, I've had. I've had a lot of good shit happen to me, and, you know, I feel. I just feel blessed because. So every time I have those moments where I'm feeling a little sorry for myself, I straighten my shit out and say, listen, somebody's got it worse. Quit whining and pick yourself up. I was six days without hearing and completely blind, and I probably cried for four of them. But when I. When it. When I had a little bit of light and then I had a little bit of hearing come back, I was like, what are you doing? Like, what are you doing? All the shit you've done in your life and all the people you've got to meet and be with and the things you've done, what are you whining about? And, you know, so if you have those moments, you got to have one. You're on your own. But I can tell you it's. It's a game changer when you. When you start looking around, like, look at all the shit we have, you guys, right? Like. And people are like, well, you know, you've helped. I'm like, night, just put on a jersey. You got an obligation to help. That's. That's the key, you know, I mean, you guys do a lot of good stuff for a lot of people and are you having fun? Of course you are. Are you blessed to have money? Of course you are. Well, you don't take it for granted. I've. I've rarely called into any one of you or, and, and, but I don't think I'm very. And you don't say, yeah, let me see what I can help with. And that's, I mean, that's a hockey thing, I think, to start with, but it's more of the character of the guys we have, you know. That's pretty cool.
Scott Laughton
Yeah.
Paul Bissonnette
Well, it's important though that you guys laid the foundation and, and I'm sure, you know, the guys who laid the foundation before you did Chaser and I just want, I just hope that you know that like, of how appreciative like all the current guys and younger guys are than you, of what you've done in order to set that foundation and what you continue to do, especially with, with the fact that you're fighting the way you're fighting as well. So. We love you, dude. And, and you guys are the best. Everything you've done for the alumni, all the former players with the blues, it's just, it's. It's so noticeable, dude. And you, and you. And, and you're. You're the man and we love you, brother.
Whitney
It's truly like when they say, leave the jersey in a better place. Like you're a true example of that, of what you, what you mean to the NHL and, you know, giving back and being there for people. So I want to say thank you.
Paul Bissonnette
And Chaser, I got your jersey back there from the Winter Classic because another guy, and a prime example is the guy at the top, the great one, Wayne Gretzky. He had Ty and Trevor bring in a jersey for everyone. There actually ended up being an extra one. So I'm wearing, I actually wearing one and I got one right there in the corner of my office. But yeah, but you guys and what you've done for the alumni, about the players, you know, before and even after you has just been remarkable, buddy. And we love you and you're the prime example of it all.
Kelly Chase
Well, I appreciate it. I'd like to. There's a lot of guys that stepped up when we needed to help with that alumni and you know, Wayne McBean and Paul Cavallini and of course Then we hired Heals, and it's changed considerably, and it's only going to get better, but there's no reason for us not looking out for one another with. With all the blessings we have. So thanks, guys, for that. I. I wanted to show you something cool. I don't know how to do this, so I'm gonna try, but I wanted to show you.
Paul Bissonnette
I don't know how you're gonna top that Gordy story. Dude. That might.
Kelly Chase
Well, I'm not.
Paul Bissonnette
I'm not crazy, but I brought.
Keith Yandle
I bought a sticky smashed over the guy's head.
Kelly Chase
I don't want to say who it is.
Keith Yandle
Hey. What a podcast studio.
Paul Bissonnette
Oh, it's unreal.
Kelly Chase
Okay, that's the studio. Look, the studio. Okay, wait, where. Which. Which I got you. Okay, now we're gonna go outside, and I want to show you guys something here. This is the. We have a watch party at the room in. Okay, boys. Give you a little idea for chickens. So we got this little area. Oh, yeah, the bar over here, which we haven't finished.
Paul Bissonnette
No surprise.
Kelly Chase
Yeah, no surprise. Weird. And then, boys, this little gem right here. I bought this car, and I'm gonna raffle it off.
Paul Bissonnette
Okay, that's pretty tight, boys.
Kelly Chase
I got. I bought a Lamborghini, and I'm. And I'm. And I put 128 former players on the car. I put the championship team, the hall of Famers for the Blues. And then I put like. And every picture is like a fight, a hit. Guys with his gloves off. Winsake with his. When Johnny played here, Jackman punching a guy in the face, Pronger slashing somebody. As usual, Bobby Plager. There's Jax fighting. I got all. I got 128 stories on this car. So we're going to auction off these raffle tickets for 100 bucks a ticket. And then in June, we're gonna draw for the car, and someone wins the Lamborghini. I'm not a Lamborghini, boys. I'm not a Lamborghini guy. A guy like me give me a Chevy truck, and I'm okay.
Whitney
Was Big Walt behind the bar back there?
Kelly Chase
He's at the food trough in the front.
Keith Yandle
Jason, you're. You're. You're a legend, buddy. To. To be able to say I played in a league that. That you played in. Guys like you. That's what Keith is saying about leaving it in such an incredible spot. We love you. We're all praying for you. You keep fighting like we know you are. Thanks for coming on, buddy. And everyone, check out Ice Guardians. It's gold. Just as you just heard for 30, 40 minutes with Chaser. Thank you.
Kelly Chase
Hey guys, thanks again for having me. I appreciate it. My son didn't to want me showing any of the watch party, the car, nothing. But he's shaking his head at me like shut up dad right now.
Paul Bissonnette
But, but that was awesome.
Kelly Chase
Well, it's funny because when, when I asked the guy I said what do you think? He's like. So it's named the Ice Guardian. So the guys on there are the guys that you just talked about integrity of the guys that how they leave the game. Those are the guys. The Barrett Jackman's, BJ Crombie, Alex Steen, Johnny Wensick, you know, Twister. Just guys that walt, you know, treat the trainers the right way, treat the staff the right way and then of course you know, the mentorship to the younger guys. So I'm excited that we can do this and see proceeds are going to go to siteman cancer and I just wanted to make sure that the guys were recognized. That don't get a lot of recognition.
Whitney
Amazing.
Keith Yandle
We'll talk to you soon, buddy. Thank you.
Paul Bissonnette
We love you guys. We love you, Chaser.
Keith Yandle
Wow, that's. I mean that's a special interview right there, boys. It's really hard to hear that good of a person going through that. And yeah, everyone, you know, Keith and I really are very close friend at home right now. Kenny, his wife's fighting the same thing. And just the perspective and hearing how hard he's fighting and how he's looking at the, the positive side of things. Same with, with Kenny's wife. It's just. That's tough. Very tough. So praying for, for everyone that anyone knows out there fighting that battle and.
Whitney
My nephew, my nephew Owen too, he just had his last shout out. Owen just had his last.
Keith Yandle
He's coming over tonight. We're gonna skate tonight. Get some pizza. Yeah. Oh, dog. Finally he rang that bell. Keith.
Paul Bissonnette
No way.
Keith Yandle
Yep.
Paul Bissonnette
A man. That's awesome.
Keith Yandle
So it's the. Yeah, it's the real life that that's tough. Makes, makes us appreciate what we're doing. Just talking hockey and, and figuring, you know, and realizing what people are fighting through and in good news in the league. Showtime, baby. Last night, 500 goals. The fifth American player to ever get 500 goals. I think he's six points away from passing Mike Madonna to be the all time leading scorer as an American born player in the NHL. A true legend of the game. An unreal speech in the locker room. Anyone? I Don't think we can play it. But go to Detroit's, Go to Detroit's Twitter and you're gonna see just a guy that he appreciates, everything he talks about, you know, all the years in the Blackhawks, but how proud he is to be a Detroit Red Wing. He, I think right away, of course, hockey player, stylist, it took me too long. I should have done this quicker, but it was cool. He said, I was never on the ice. I'm usually never on the ice for, for the. When the goalies pulled and, and they threw him out there, the crowd went nuts. Right when he got on the ice. He buries the empty net. A whole team comes on the ice. Yeah, just. Just watching the interview or his speech in the locker room and then after his interview with his son, I think he said his son wants to get 600 and play till he's 75.
Whitney
Yeah.
Keith Yandle
And it's so cool. Like he came into this league this superstar 18 year old and he had no kids and he's probably a little wild off the ice and like how he's grown up, how different of a person he is. I'm sure he'd say it. I know I am. You go 15, 20 years, you're just. You can't even really remember the type of person you were before. And he's still doing it. So I don't know if you guys have anything to say besides, that's probably the greatest American born.
Paul Bissonnette
Greatest American. No, no. Yeah. You can't argue that.
Whitney
Can't argue. I mean, obviously great company too with him and. Yeah, what a great photo.
Keith Yandle
That's awesome. He said that too. He's like, I want to get a picture right now with everyone. So I'm sure they would have done it anyways.
Whitney
But, but like you look, you look at the guys with the 500American, junior big wall and Madonna and him. I mean, those are, those are the, the Mount Rushmore for American born players, especially forwards and so cool. Like you, I mean, like you said, even like we all got to play against them. Got to see him in his prime when he was showtime. Showtime, like he was so good, it was insane. Like making other guys better while he was doing stuff on his own. Like he just, he had it all right. And when he came in the league, I remember guys would be like, ah, he's too small. He's not going to be able to, to, you know, do what he did in junior and stuff like that. And he just, you know, he had that mentality where nothing was going to stop him. Didn't matter. Like when, you know, guys were all over him, beating them up, trying to, you know, get under his skin. He just handled his business, scored goals, won cups and, you know, been. Been an unbelievable player for the last 20 years, it seems like.
Keith Yandle
Yeah, like when he went first, I wouldn't say everyone's like, oh, this is the next one. Generational. It was a lot of question marks. And then him and Taves. Yeah, it's what a run. And then Detroit, he said it too. He's like, we got bigger things in here. They haven't been in the playoffs in a while. They're in a great spot right now. They got a great core, fun team to watch. So.
Whitney
And he turned that Chicago, like, Chicago went right, like they were down in the dumps, like not getting anyone at their games. And look at what that buildings like now. Like, he turned that franchise around. I could see. I'm not that Detroit's franchise is down, but like getting them back to the playoffs, he's a guy that can do that biz.
Keith Yandle
There's. There's another guest speaking of all time guys and great American forwards. Let's bring them in. Bring him in right now. Bugsy.
Paul Bissonnette
Couple clicks for Bugsy.
Keith Yandle
It's been a while, Bug.
Bugsy Watson
It's been a while. Wow.
Keith Yandle
You look better than ever, though. Holy bu.
Bugsy Watson
Oh, I love, I love you guys.
Whitney
Are those popcorn ceilings, Bugsy?
Bugsy Watson
I'm not sure. I'm at a rental. Yeah, up in Minnesota.
Whitney
2026.
Bugsy Watson
Just want to say congratulations to you guys. You guys are moving on to Netflix now. Bigger and better things. But all the love and growth you have is you guys just being yourselves, being authentic and, you know, chaser really sums up, I think, that unique brotherhood that we all, all share. And actually, I think if you really look at the numbers, I think there's like 5,000 of us alive, NHL alumni. So it is a small, unique group, you know, different mentality, but it is a big family. And now to be able to, you know, chase or inspire, I think our generation to do more and pull guys together and really support each other, you know, led by Glenn, everyone's been, you know, a family. And you guys, we've all been there from the beginning coming into the league. So it's great to see how we continue to grow that, you know, hockey spirit. Wow.
Paul Bissonnette
Well said, Bugsy.
Scott Laughton
Holy.
Paul Bissonnette
From the heart, Bugsy. I don't think we've told you yet though, but part of that Netflix deal is me and you getting in the Octagon together. And that's how it kind of derived. They saw our fight, the Sandbagger, and I said, we want some more of that.
Keith Yandle
Remember?
Bugsy Watson
I remember texting you in the Jake Paul. This is like, a few years ago. They were talking, talking about doing stuff. I'm like, we should challenge them.
Scott Laughton
And then you're like.
Bugsy Watson
Then you Google them. Like, oh, he was actually like a professional, or he's college wrestler. We're like, oh, maybe we shouldn't.
Paul Bissonnette
Yeah, yeah. 2v2. Me and Biz and Bugsy versus the Pauls. How's that going? Have you been doing all the jiu jitsu stuff still? Like, what's going on?
Bugsy Watson
Getting injured. So no. Yeah, kind of, you know, laid off the. The strong physical contact for now, but yeah, staying active, kind of, you know, hitting boxing a little bit, doing stuff. Staying active.
Keith Yandle
You've done a ton for alumni as well. You continue to do. You're on some Tampa broadcast intermissions, and you're doing a ton with soldiers, right? Like, we got warriors, former soldiers. They're playing a lot of hockey with these guys. So how's everything going with that?
Bugsy Watson
Great. Yeah, it's been great. Talking hockey. So with the Penguins and Lightning, kind of do the game analyst stuff. So it's been a lot of fun, especially, you know, just being able to, you know, talk hockey and be. Be there when Sid's breaking all these amazing milestones. And. And then in Tampa, we got a great group of alumni guys there working together, you know, with Maroon and Hall and Coburn. So it's a lot of fun. We almost. We're borderline. I'm not sure if we could, like, cross the line, you know, on tv, I'm like. I'm just kind of treating it like podcast. So we got a few warnings, me and Marine, but it's. It's okay. It's been a lot of fun.
Paul Bissonnette
So I wear those with a badge on or the warning. Oh, yeah.
Keith Yandle
I'm like, I thought, oh, yeah, do it.
Bugsy Watson
I saw Biz do it.
Paul Bissonnette
Oh, yeah.
Keith Yandle
So you're gonna floss your cornhole with the towel on the next Pens broadcast.
Pasha
Oh, you gotta.
Bugsy Watson
You gotta put it in the sun, right?
Whitney
Yeah.
Paul Bissonnette
What, your cornhole?
Whitney
Yeah.
Bugsy Watson
Yeah. Put your balls in the sun. Yeah. Get your testosterone about business. You should know that by now.
Kelly Chase
Come on.
Paul Bissonnette
You're doing that.
Whitney
He'll be doing that.
Keith Yandle
He'll be on his.
Paul Bissonnette
This is what you're doing on. On the lawn chair. You're just getting.
Bugsy Watson
You do happy baby. Yeah, get the happy baby up there. Get it Going.
Keith Yandle
You brought up Sid. Can you believe this? Can you believe this is still happening?
Bugsy Watson
That's where it's, I mean it. I kind of. Yes, because it's like from an early age. And we mentioned kind of like the veterans and first responders through our foundation, we work with, we talk about, you know, mental health. And one example I use, I remember training in VEIL with him. They're talking about gut health and all this stuff. They're sprinting up the mountain. I'm like, I got the beers in the backpack, you know, coming up at the end, I'm like, I'll just take my time, crack the beers. But how you guys really understand the science of the chemical makeup of our bodies, how your, your, your gut actually produces like 90 of your happy chemicals. So just kind of relating some of these stories to, to then you have optimal performance based on, you know, the food you eat. So if you think of your stomach and your vagus nerves kind of like your i5 to your brain. So if you're eating all processed food and they're always stressed out and some of these women working double job and they're, you know, putting those on the line, it's kind of like just awareness of maybe we can, you know, change our diets a little bit or add little, little things. But Sid, you know, he's been doing that since he's freaking 18, 15, really having that understanding of his, you know, body for him to have this optimal performance. So it's, yeah, no surprise. But it's amazing to sit there and watch him just continue to perform at an elite level. And then again, I think if you look at all those top guys, they just bring everyone along. They care about, about everybody, you know, the janitor to everyone treat everyone with respect. And it's just beautiful and awesome to see them, you know, continue to, to move on. All three of those guys, you know, it's crazy to imagine they've been playing together for so long. That's something special you won't see probably ever again.
Keith Yandle
Bugsy Hazy facetimed me recently with Sid and, and Sid said, do you still have. He said, sid has a question for you. What's up? What's up, buddy? Said you still have restless leg syndrome. Like that's what he was thinking. I'm like, yeah, I do. My foot's always shaking. He's like, that's so weird. And then Tanger was at the table too. They're a pre game meal and Tanger's like, man, you were so mean to me at the Va. I said, bugsy was mean to me.
Bugsy Watson
You're my roommate. And Yan's, I think he's like, we're.
Paul Bissonnette
Trying to go to sleep.
Bugsy Watson
And you just.
Paul Bissonnette
The wrestle of the sheath.
Bugsy Watson
I'm like, bud, like, just go in the bathroom if you gotta, like, do.
Paul Bissonnette
What you gotta do.
Bugsy Watson
Like, I'm right here, you know?
Whitney
He was twisting one off.
Keith Yandle
Yeah. He's like, everyone, dude, what's going on over there?
Bugsy Watson
That's your foot. You better get that checked out.
Whitney
We would. We were just in LA and we would, you know, hot stove and wits room and he jumped in his bed and he had the foot going, the Roger Rabbit foot. And I'm like, dude, I thought it was maybe just when you played, like, the nervousness, like, you're still doing it at 43 years old, you got it made in the shade, you got your own vodka and you're still doing this.
Keith Yandle
I don't control that foot. I don't know what you want me to tell you, Bugsy.
Bugsy Watson
Is that magnesium maybe or something?
Keith Yandle
I don't know. You need some goat in there, like, Bugsy, you're talking gut health. I need to probably get into. The gut's getting a little ridiculous, right? The skinny, fat look. So you're. Are you still, like, no sugar, never dessert, always healthy?
Bugsy Watson
I wouldn't say that's just balance, right? At the end of the day, if you're here and there, I think, you know, at the end of the day, it's hard to. You can't be perfect. And that's where we kind of even have a guide we hand out at the events. And it's kind of like the word no is never in there. So it's maybe like less of this, more. Right? Because I think for a lot of people it's overwhelming, but you look at what's happening kind of in the world now with the food pyramid getting kind of upside down the other day and just really looking back to our roots and health and embracing those, like the whole foods and all the stuff movement and just back to the way we're kind of supposed to be. So I think that's, you know, for everyone. I think at the end of the day, it's just people being aware of it and then making. Obviously people can make whatever choice they want. Like cigarettes. Put the skull and crossbones on there. If you want to smoke, smoke. But you know what you might get, you know, So I think that's been great for.
Scott Laughton
For everyone.
Keith Yandle
You're. You're working with the pens and tampa Pens are surprising a lot of people. At least me and Tampa, I think like they got. I've said them or Florida are going to come out of the East. Are you. Do you believe in the lightning that much?
Bugsy Watson
100%. 100%. They've been from camp on. They just have this kind of team mentality, I think around their blue paint. They don't let anyone hang out there more than a second or two and someone's getting that hard cross checked or shove from all, all defensemen. They've had some injuries this year, so they had a lot of great guys step up and it's that team, team toughness. I think unfortunately, like with the Florida and Tampa rivalry, which is I think is great for hockey. I was calling that preseason game when there's a 17 game Wiscon Ducks, 300 PIMs and the Lightning got fined and all this crazy stuff. But you know, Florida is elbowing their guys and run their guys from behind and eventually you gotta like punch back right as the bully. So they have embraced that even this year. Gensel ended up being 77, Mikula the defenseman there, I think for Florida, I mean Gensel gets elbowed right in the back of the head. Genzel's played 633 games and finally he was like enough and he threw his punches. I'm like. And so everyone's kind of stepping out of their comfort zone a little bit to stick together. And that's where I think that early season shenanigans kind of brought the boys together. And I think from brass down and Coop really have that culture of, you know, we're going to be in your face, we're going to work hard and we'll stick together. So that's really what we've, we've seen that in action. So I think that's where even Cooch is kind of getting in the mix. You know, he's not scared to throw the body around and that leads, leads the charge for everyone else. So when everyone else gets called up into these positions, kind of next man up mentality as we know. And they all been kind of really thriving in those roles. You know, you look at even Radish on the power play Moser, those guys have been kind of playing the one two without Hedman and McDonough there have done a great job and Radish is now just a play, you know, elite defenseman in the league and he was a healthy scratch to be in the year. So I mean it shows again that the depth of they have there. So I really like their. Their chances coming out of the East.
Paul Bissonnette
You better pay them this off season.
Bugsy Watson
Well, you only got. Yeah, I mean, that's part of the game.
Keith Yandle
I mean, that's how. That's out of your league, though, Bugs. You're just, you know, that's not your thing.
Paul Bissonnette
You better be saying it on the broadcast. You better buck up, breeze boy. You better pay some. Pay some guy money. Yo, what. What. What happened to your WI Fi? It was so good at the start of the show, and then now it's kind of a little Jack Yankee.
Keith Yandle
Oh.
Paul Bissonnette
Oh, it's a little better now.
Bugsy Watson
Oh. Are you sure? Is it me or is it you?
Keith Yandle
It was once. He said he tans his. His butthole. The Internet's like, I. I'm scratching out on this one.
Bugsy Watson
Is he cut?
Paul Bissonnette
Do you shave it? Do you wax it? What do you do to your butthole?
Scott Laughton
It's.
Bugsy Watson
It's a little trim job, but nothing job. Yeah, nothing. Nothing. Crazy.
Scott Laughton
Yeah.
Keith Yandle
All right, Bugs, the Internet is a little. It's a little wonky, but we'll chat with you soon. Hey, you have a face for Netflix, so we'll have you on a couple episodes here, right? Can we. Can we catch up more?
Scott Laughton
Sure.
Bugsy Watson
I love that. But yeah, congratulations to you guys.
Paul Bissonnette
From now until then, every time you think of, like, or talk about an old story, write it down. And we could do another long 90 minute sit down for Netflix.
Keith Yandle
It'll be him making fun of me.
Paul Bissonnette
Of all the crazy antics Bugs, he got up to at Saint Cloud.
Bugsy Watson
Welcoming into the league. Could be a good 90 minutes.
Keith Yandle
Yeah, no, no, let's. Let's stay away from that one.
Paul Bissonnette
I mean, how many.
Bugsy Watson
How many shoes did you go through with?
Keith Yandle
Oh, how many shoes of mine did you ruin? That would be six total shoes. Three pairs. Dead mouse in one, blue spray painted fluorescent blue, another, and the final very expensive pair nailed to my locker.
Paul Bissonnette
Nice.
Keith Yandle
Thanks again, Bugs.
Paul Bissonnette
Yeah, just making sure they don't go anywhere.
Keith Yandle
Oh, that guy. That laugh, that smile. Talk about not aging. Jesus, Macklin. Celebrini. Boys, this is actually becoming ridiculous. I know I mentioned it earlier. Knocking out the puck out of midair on his backhand, down a goal against the LA Kings, then dangling somebody at the blue line with just a wide stick. It'll bring it in front. I think Fogel, like, got a hard stick check on him. Didn't matter. He snipes at five hole, ties it up, and then with one of the assists of the year in overtime, just the. The false information. Like the. Everyone thinks he's shooting. He slides it over wide open net. He just continues every night I Look, it's celebrating three points. McDavid three or four. McKinnon three or four before. So it's incredible. I mean, look at this. I mean the fact celebrity is sticking in there. I think he's on pace for like 130 points right around there. Roughly. Maybe even more at this point. But McKinnon and McDavid look like this. This Art Ross race will be legendary. So the league's awesome right now. Something else. We had a quick hit here biz. You. You announced it on our show. Great job. And they made it official. Utah will play Colorado in next year's Winter Classic.
Paul Bissonnette
I thought, I guess I kind of that one up.
Keith Yandle
Why?
Paul Bissonnette
In a sense of like, I, I, I just was like, oh, I heard it's this. Oh, well. Haha. And I didn't really know and then it was so I kind of ruined the surprise.
Keith Yandle
Yeah. I don't think it's more. It's not about the surprise though. It's more about. I think it's gonna be a good spot for one. I'd love to go out.
Whitney
Oh, it's also too. If whoever told you's got to know that you're loose lips. Busy boy to the chest.
Paul Bissonnette
That's right. I blame them for telling me.
Whitney
Yeah.
Keith Yandle
Might as well tell Mincy.
Paul Bissonnette
Well, and another thing too. It's like Smith just spends a billion on the team. I feel like they should give him a cookie like this. Like that's. That was probably talked about and rightfully so. They got McKinnon coming to town, so I mean, that's a, that's a hot ticket. They're gonna have a lot of people from Colorado probably travel over. So. And you look at the stadium and the fact that you could see the mountains of in the background, it's almost like they're finally doing the Lake Tahoe experiment. Like with fans in the right spot and not somewhere where it's going to melt down. And Nate's going to be toe picking in the neutral zone, so it's good. Yeah, I'm fired up.
Keith Yandle
What else is on here? I'm sorry, I'm just kind of going through this quick.
Paul Bissonnette
I have a 240 haircut.
Keith Yandle
Okay. So we got 30 minutes here. Well, we got RA coming on still.
Kelly Chase
Well, then we also have another guest.
Biz Nasty
Yan's. Yan's is a surprise guest for you guys here. So I'll pop them in now. Quickly. Welcome in Scott Lawton.
Paul Bissonnette
Scotty, look at that face. What A beautiful man.
Whitney
What's up, Scotty?
Scott Laughton
Not too much, not too much. Just a little day off. Nice to have a little day off.
Whitney
Especially after playing your old squad the other night.
Scott Laughton
Yeah, big goal. Out of body experience for sure. I thought it was crazy. It was wild spending that much time there and being there with you, Yance, it's. It's cool going back to the city, but at the same time, it's kind of nice to get that tying goal and, and kind of stick it to them.
Whitney
No.
Paul Bissonnette
So that's. Was that the most nervous you've ever been for, for a game or is. Is that fair to say?
Scott Laughton
Yeah, I would say so. Honestly, it was just like, till the video tribute ended and then kind of got to my game, but had a ton of family there. The Flyers are first class. They gave them a suite. Had Chef Greg in the suite. He was in his Flyers jersey. Chef in Philly, it was a complete beauty. And then some people from charities there and everything like that. So it was, it was a special night for me.
Paul Bissonnette
Who's Chef Greg Twin?
Scott Laughton
He's, he's hard to describe. He's.
Whitney
He's like Mincy almost.
Scott Laughton
That's exactly right.
Biz Nasty
He's.
Scott Laughton
He's a little googly eyed and he's the team chef in Philly. He's been there since 2011 and he's honestly just the best guy in the world.
Whitney
Like, do anything for the boys. Remember he, we made him dress up in the lacrosse goalie gear and we shot balls at him like as hard as we could and just hitting them everywhere, hitting him in the nuts and he's just like, ah, this is great. He loves it.
Scott Laughton
I was in the hot tub one time after practice and he got in full chef suit, just sat beside me. Right in the hot tub. Like, no, not even a question asked that right beside me and had a five minute hot tub in his full scrub.
Paul Bissonnette
Who told him to do it?
Scott Laughton
Nothing. He just walks in and he, I'm the last guy there and he hops in the tub with me. It's absolutely.
Whitney
He's Lottie's kids, godfather, father. They were, they're best friends.
Paul Bissonnette
Yeah. It's always has to bring it further, right?
Scott Laughton
He would be close.
Keith Yandle
He would be close.
Paul Bissonnette
He's in the will. So how did, how did it all begin, Yan's? Like, I guess he was already there before you got there. Was he already like mixed in with the team or did you amplify that when you got there, Yance?
Whitney
No, no, they were his guy, Lottie. Lottie was the guy in Philly. That's why I thought it was so cool. Cool. Because going back to, like, you were. You were the heart and soul of that team for a long time. You ask anyone in that locker room, like, ly was the guy in there. So that's why I was so happy for you last night. Or just. Just such a cool moment for you that you deserve. But it's also too. Like, you've been in the league a long time now, and I. I heard rumors, like, you're still getting your shoes filled with cement and.
Paul Bissonnette
No, they're bullying you in Toronto.
Scott Laughton
I wore my face. I wore my nice givenchies into the rink. Really nice. They were about 10 years old. A little bit of cranberry juice on the laces, stuff like that.
Bugsy Watson
But.
Scott Laughton
I came back, and there was one shoe filled with cement. So I'm like, there's no way a guy puts cement in my shoes on a game day. So then I'm like, what the hell is going on here? So then finally figured out who it was, and I had a new pair of. Pair of shoes. Shoes in my stall a couple days later, which was nice. I got a free. Free pair out of it.
Bugsy Watson
Wow.
Keith Yandle
Let him know. You knew, like, you almost put the. The threat out there. Like, I know it was you. I'm. I want new shoes.
Scott Laughton
That's exactly right. Well, that's power. Holmes likes to mess with me quite a bit in the rink. So he. He got me on that one. Then I was walking out in the island. I had my name plate on my helmet. Helmet, you know, like, Scott. So I had that one going out to the ring, too. So I'm just getting toyed with.
Paul Bissonnette
Like, the. Did they not know it was your shoes to begin with, or they did it and then realized how upset you were, that it was a game day, and then they had to replace them.
Scott Laughton
No, no, I wasn't that upset, but I was. I was on the hunt. I was on the hunt for someone, and I wanted them back bad.
Paul Bissonnette
Okay, so when you say that, do you always go about, like, what do you do? What are you doing? You put a bomb in their car.
Bugsy Watson
Like, how.
Paul Bissonnette
How. How intense do you get with the.
Keith Yandle
Rebuttal puts Greg at their house.
Scott Laughton
I got TK one year with, like, I got a sauna for my basement, and I had all those, like, popcorn things or whatever in the. In the packaging. So I filled this whole car with every. Every little popcorn thing I got. Well, Sanheim and Philly, we call them the Wacky Wavy. Inflatable tube man. You know, the thing goes by the car dealership because he's so long and lanky. So I went on Amazon and I bought one for. For a couple hundred bucks, and I put his face on it, and we had it outside of our rink for, like, two weeks. And then they finally had to take it down.
Paul Bissonnette
Hey, you say that good. Say it again.
Scott Laughton
Wacky, wavy, inflatable tube man.
Paul Bissonnette
Say it. Say it five times.
Whitney
You can't bully him.
Keith Yandle
I was an ambassador.
Paul Bissonnette
No, because they say it fast on. On Family Guy. So I want to see if he could do the family Guy version.
Scott Laughton
I don't got it in me.
Paul Bissonnette
I don't think it's your day off. Eh, I'm not working today in the.
Whitney
Locker room these days.
Scott Laughton
What's that?
Whitney
Who are you sitting next to in the locker room? I used to make the trainers sit next to Lottie every. It was my favorite.
Scott Laughton
I sit beside Matthews, and most of the time. And then we were. I was on Slinky island and Long Island Cowboy. We call him Slinky. And me and him were sent together. What a great kid he is. And it's good, but. Yeah. And she wouldn't believe with. With some of the shenanigans, the. The stall etiquette is out of control here. We're all.
Keith Yandle
You a big guy. Don't cross your line.
Paul Bissonnette
I could be. I could see Matthews being sloppy with his gitch bag, but he's.
Scott Laughton
He's so dialed in that he has, like. He's got, like, his toiletry bag looks like a hockey bag. Like, that's how much stuff's in there. Like, I gotta roll. I got a lacrosse ball in mine.
Biz Nasty
I think.
Scott Laughton
Like, we don't even need it. But yeah, he's. He's got a lot of stuff, but he's so dialed in. So I kind of just shift over a little bit, take half installed.
Keith Yandle
You get dressed like this. Yeah, that's exactly right.
Scott Laughton
Well, Yan used to put the tape across, so I did it in Florida this year. I did the Yandel tape right across the thing. Like, don't come on my side.
Whitney
Don't cross.
Keith Yandle
Oh, wait. Y. Was he dirty?
Biz Nasty
Every.
Whitney
Everyone. I just didn't like when people crossed the line. Like, I have my. Yeah. Like, I have my side. You have your side. Like, I'm not taking.
Scott Laughton
And don't use our garbage can fan.
Keith Yandle
Wait.
Paul Bissonnette
Yans was particular about. We just had chaser on. He said Holly. Like, he didn't have any superstitions. Yan's little pregame situ Was kind of out of control, wasn't it? Yeah, lots.
Scott Laughton
Yes, it was. It. I don't even know what, like what was going on. You couldn't, you couldn't do anything beside him without him putting tape. If you had your clear tape over a certain point, it was gone.
Keith Yandle
Oh, you just chuck it.
Scott Laughton
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Gone.
Whitney
If people tried to use our trash barrel. No, no, I took it out of the trash and put it back in their stall.
Scott Laughton
That's exactly right. Oh, it was a blast, though.
Whitney
How's Toronto been treating you? You love it. Obviously from there. Obviously grew up a Leafs fan. You've been enjoying your time?
Scott Laughton
Yeah, it's been awesome. It took, it took a little bit. I think last year especially. I think it's, it's a whirlwind. Like you get traded and you're, you're in the city the next day playing for a different team where I was there for so long. So the summer really helped the staff they have here. Like, it's a first class organization from top to bottom. The way they treat you, flights, meals, hotels, the staff, everything thing from. From top to bottom. So it's been, it's been amazing and it's been nice. Being close to family with, with a young son and just having the help around has been. Has been huge.
Keith Yandle
What is kind of switched because it was, it was ugly for a little bit. Mark Savard's let go. You know, there were some questions on Barubi, what he was saying after the games, but you guys have flipped things around. Is there anything in particular? Is it just kind of the waves and flows of a season?
Scott Laughton
Yeah, I think we got off to a tough start and it's kind of hard for me to, to talk about because I was. Well, I was watching, but I wasn't a part of it. You know, I broke my foot in preseason, then I came back and got blown up by Zadorov. And then so I was out for the first couple or the first month and a half. So we were giving up way too many odd man rushes. We weren't really collectively coming up the ice together. We're spending too much time in our zone. We made a couple tweaks here and there in our D zone and neutral zone, and I think that's really helped us. And then guys are starting to play together. You get a little bit of confidence that goes a long way and guys are starting to feel it on their stick a little bit. And I think from there on it's, it's kind of flowed the last two Weeks we were playing good. We played good in Dallas. We got beat Nashville, and then it really started to turn. So we got to keep it going. It's a tight race and every point's crucial, but we got to keep this thing going until the break.
Nate MacKinnon
Pretty.
Paul Bissonnette
Oh, go ahead, Woody.
Keith Yandle
I was gonna ask one more quick because you scored on this breakaway slap shot this year, and then all the. Then all these clips started coming. I didn't realize you'd done it for.
Whitney
A while now, Mini Datsuk dude.
Keith Yandle
When did you. Wouldn't that dude put the goalie in the corner? He's just like Sheldon Surrey style on breakaways. But every time it's bar down. Like, did you do it in practice? Like, I'm gonna pull this thing off at games.
Scott Laughton
I do two at the end of warm up. Every warm up, and that's pretty much it. You gotta. You gotta save them, I think, especially now. But honestly, my dad, My dad gives me like a little pump up speech before every game and he's completely. He's a sicko. So like any tough guy on the other team, he's like, you gotta go on tonight. I'm like, what's going on here?
Keith Yandle
So if you're playing San Jose or Columbus, he's saying, hey, you gotta go Reeves or go Olivier center right?
Scott Laughton
Grab someone. Grab someone tonight. Let's go. And I'm like, via text. Those guys text.
Whitney
Yeah.
Scott Laughton
And then he. He always tells me to take a slap shot at the end of every text, so kind of stuck. And I had a couple in junior too, and.
Bugsy Watson
And.
Scott Laughton
And yeah, I don't know. I think it's just sometimes the play. Try and try and beat him. I saw G do it a lot in Philly and a couple other guys, but yeah, it just comes to. Comes to you.
Paul Bissonnette
I guess I was just gonna follow up. Like being a Leafs guy, pretty cool year for you to be a full time member of the team. Like JT hits his 500th Bowen. There you go. Yeah, and, and counting Joe Bowen celebration on the ice. And then Matthew sets the all time goal goal record for Leafs. And then Sundine ends up visiting and being around. So like that, like it must be a whirlwind. The last, you know, whatever, four or five months here.
Scott Laughton
Yeah.
Keith Yandle
Budweiser cans. You get any assist on those?
Scott Laughton
Nah, I thought I got one on the empty netter last year. I was hoping to do a nice little video with one.
Keith Yandle
They're like, you weren't supposed to.
Whitney
Hey, man.
Paul Bissonnette
Do your own beer. Hey, cut your own deal.
Keith Yandle
That's exactly right.
Scott Laughton
I was hoping. I was just hoping I had one little can in the mail.
Paul Bissonnette
Yeah. Boxing of his. Of his toiletry kit.
Scott Laughton
I could, but I'd be there forever. But yeah, no, it is a cool year. I think, like, the way Matthews has done it in that short amount of time is. Is outrageous. And Johnny getting 500. Like, Johnny's one of the best teammates I've had. I didn't know much about him, but he is hilarious. Like Yance. He's exactly like Reamer. Like, really?
Paul Bissonnette
Who?
Scott Laughton
Like who jvr? Like hilarious. Like just like always. Like a dry joke. Always the right thing to say at the right time. And. And he is dialed in. But it's just, he's so fun to be around. And then obviously Joe Bon, I think listening to him as a kid on the radio and then he's calling your games and coming in the room. It's. It's just cool to be around. Like you're a kid and you watch all these guys come up and. And it's just really cool.
Whitney
Now you mentioned the beginning of the year. You were out a little bit in the press box and how come you didn't wear a tank top at all?
Nate MacKinnon
Yeah. What's up?
Scott Laughton
My body. My body wouldn't do it.
Whitney
It's not there.
Scott Laughton
It's not there there. I could go buying you out with the chest hair coming out, but I don't. That's about it.
Whitney
Does it lose you the stuff that these guys wear?
Paul Bissonnette
Yeah, it's awesome.
Scott Laughton
It's awesome. Like, I like, I don't know, like the. No dress code for me. I only have really suits. Like, I don't really have style. So it's like I'm gonna wear like a pair of pants and a jacket and then these guys are coming in. I actually wanted to be Willie for Halloween, but I couldn't find his fit. So I. I never went there through with it.
Paul Bissonnette
You were gonna try to walk in with the chrome heart jeans on and the.
Scott Laughton
I was trying to go the. The jean jacket with the jean jeans and the tank top with like the chain. I had a wig all ready to go and I was gonna show up. I couldn't follow. I couldn't get the. The right fit, I guess for it. So I went as Todd from Wedding Crashers.
Whitney
That's a good one.
Keith Yandle
Yeah, that's real good. The painting was gift.
Paul Bissonnette
Do you. Do you ask them questions about their outfits and like what costs when they come in? Or you just kind of. You see them and you go wow. And that's it.
Whitney
Biz was famous for that. Hey, how much was that? Hey, how much was that?
Paul Bissonnette
Well, I like to know.
Whitney
You used to ask.
Paul Bissonnette
Okay, if. If I saw. Okay, let's fast forward, right? If I'm playing on the Toronto Maple Leafs and I see Nylander coming in with the bedazzled Jankos on, I'm saying, what are they and what do they cost? I mean, I'm intrigued to know what they cost.
Scott Laughton
Yeah, I never. I never ask, but some of the. Some of the stuff, it's got to be up there.
Paul Bissonnette
Apparently, the jeans that he's wearing are like 25, 30K. Nylander.
Scott Laughton
No way.
Paul Bissonnette
Though I heard that the chrome hearts jeans are very, very expensive.
Keith Yandle
Found some that conversation that were 50 and 60. There were also some that were like.
Scott Laughton
800, but I'm guessing he's near 25, 000, not 2500.
Paul Bissonnette
Ah, gee. Can you. Could you get us a little bit of background check here?
Scott Laughton
I'm gonna.
Keith Yandle
I looked it up. There was. Yeah, there was pairs for 25.
Paul Bissonnette
Really?
Scott Laughton
I'm gonna ask Willie, and I'll get back to you guys, because.
Paul Bissonnette
Ask him what the jeans cost, and ask him what the most expensive things he has in his closet are outside of maybe bags, but, like, more so things that he's putting on his body.
Bugsy Watson
Yes, they.
Biz Nasty
They make chrome heart jeans for $84,000, $70,000, $35,000, $38,000. So they're. They're pretty expensive jeans.
Scott Laughton
Are you. Are you dry cleaning those, or are you throwing the tumble dry on them?
Keith Yandle
Washing those by hand.
Whitney
Wear them once and throw.
Paul Bissonnette
No, it's like RA says with the ball caps. You throw them in the. In the dishwasher.
Scott Laughton
Yeah.
Keith Yandle
Shower with them. Yeah, I think ra's a shower with that on, guys. Guy. Yeah, that was his trick. He gave us that one. It works too.
Paul Bissonnette
Throw him in your gitch bag.
Whitney
You're the man.
Keith Yandle
Lots. Keep going, buddy. I guess you being out and now you're back, you're ripping. A team's figuring things out. It kind of makes sense. Keith said, you're the heart and soul guy, so keep ripping it up, bud.
Scott Laughton
I appreciate it, guys. Thanks for having me on.
Paul Bissonnette
And lots. Last thing, when I said, though, and when things maybe weren't going so well, should everybody go to the black suits? Did that ever cross your mind? Everybody just keep her simple here. Let's get through this little rut and then go back to the chrome harders.
Scott Laughton
No, it didn't cross my mind, but I'm I'm usually wearing a blue pair of pants with.
Paul Bissonnette
Okay.
Nate MacKinnon
All right.
Paul Bissonnette
That's why we love you, Scott Lot.
Whitney
Everyone love you, Lottie.
Paul Bissonnette
What a guy.
Keith Yandle
Did he say cranberry vodka on the le like he had to.
Whitney
The guys.
Keith Yandle
I love that guy. Guys, we got a. This Monday, it's prime Monday night hockey. The Canucks versus the Montreal Canadiens. Teams in very different spots going in very different directions. But January 12th at 7:30 Eastern, the Habs are 71 and 2 in their last 10. They're flying. Our listeners in Canada can watch Monday night's game on Prime Video. If you're already a prime member, you're all set. If not, sign up for a free trial@primevideo.com. and we got the Queen of Amazon Hockey and Monday night hockey.
Pasha
Look at the jerseys in the back.
Andy Petrillo
What's up? Yeah, I got some stuff going too. I'm just saying, I do and I like. This is nice to be on your turf. Normally you're on mine on Coast to coast on Thursdays.
Keith Yandle
Yeah. The first time I was with you, you made fun of me for five hours. That's a five hour show. But I'm not gonna do that. I'm not going to do that by.
Andy Petrillo
Biz, by the way.
Keith Yandle
Yeah, of course I will ask this. Have you heard of chrome heart jeans? Do they have those for women? And do you know if they're 30 to $40,000?
Andy Petrillo
Well, I heard that conversation and that's absolute insanity to me. I don't know. I think I wear like Joe Fresh jeans and I 100% put them in the dryer. I don't care if they shrink. I'm short anyways. But like, listen, you got that money, you want to spend it on that. God bless.
Paul Bissonnette
But That's a bad ROI, though. 35K on jeans. That's like. That's a Toyota Camry used. But it's a Toyota Camry.
Whitney
I don't know.
Paul Bissonnette
Are those jerseys? I know you're a big soccer fan. You must be excited for the World cup coming to Canada. North America. Really? And then what. What happens if Canada plays Italy? Or are they. They already are, I believe. Right.
Andy Petrillo
Well, Italy. Italy has to go through a playoff in March because unfortunately they didn't win their group. So whatever. Congratulations, Norway. So they have to go through a playoff. There's still a chance. And yeah, if they win that, then they will be Canada's first opponent. And I cannot, I cannot answer this question. I simply cannot because it's. It's like tearing me apart. I also have Like a California jersey. I have my Italian gear, but I am putting up my Canadian gear in the meantime.
Keith Yandle
So you're torn.
Paul Bissonnette
I said you're torn.
Biz Nasty
You're.
Paul Bissonnette
You're torn between both sides. No, no, no, no.
Andy Petrillo
I am completely torn. I'm like in the world. Okay, let me put it this way. In the world of soccer, I'm torn. There is like no other sport where I would be torn with Canada and Italy. Make that perfectly clear. It is Canada all the way. But there's just a little bit more, a lot more history on the soccer side with Italy. So, you know, are you going to.
Whitney
Be doing any obviously for those who don't know. And he's a proud, proud Italian. And I was just wondering, are you doing anything with the Olympics, it being over in Italy? Are you. You staying put?
Andy Petrillo
I'm hosting the afternoon show, which is prime time in Milan. So I'll actually have a lot of women talking. I will have some men's hockey too in my time. So it'll be every day I'm hustling. It's like 18 days. So I'm on the year 12 to 6. But really, you know, like, you're in at 9 and you got to do hair and makeup. This takes a while to put together. And then you gotta have your like last minute production meeting. Then on the air you go, and then it's wash, rinse, repeat, Groundhog Day the next day. But I love it. Started hosting the Olympics in 2014. Sochi. So this is something I look forward to every two.
Paul Bissonnette
That's the one that went. Was that.
Keith Yandle
No, I was in. I was, I was in Vancouver.
Paul Bissonnette
Oh, I thought, oh, there.
Keith Yandle
Played in Sochi. I played in Search. I was there after when the Village, the Olympic Village was complete ghost town. It was just the imports in one building and the Russians in another. Andy as the host and you'll be around the. You know, you'll be hearing everything. What's going on? What are you hearing about the rink? They. Apparently the test game is today.
Andy Petrillo
Yeah. Like, there's seven games in three days, so some sort of Italian cup that they're going to be playing well. So, I mean, this one is a little to the wire, a little too kind of close to the finish line for me right in getting it done. Because I will say this, every single Olympics that I have worked on, it's always been doom and gloom. It's always been, this is not going to be ready. This is going to be horrible. Like I can tell you right now. So in Sochi Are they going to.
Whitney
Move the Jumbotron or.
Andy Petrillo
No, no, it's not going to stay right there. Italians aren't tall, so it's going to stay right there. But, yeah, like, even when we were going to Sochi, we were basically told the war was going to break out while we were there. Now, sadly, a war kind of did break out during the Paralympics, but 2016, we were told we were going get Zika. That didn't happen. 2018, we were told we were going to get nuked by North Korea when we were in Pyeongchang. That didn't happen. Like, there's always. This is not going to work. That's not going to work. And then, guess what? It always does. So, I mean, they're gonna have these test events, which means the ice is ready. The toilets may not flush properly for the fans. I don't know. I mean, that's something they still got to figure out. But as far as, like, the ice, they got that ready. Yeah.
Kelly Chase
I don't know.
Andy Petrillo
What. Oh, that's a locker room.
Keith Yandle
Oh, that's my basement after the flooding. Not where Team USA is going to be celebrating gold medals.
Whitney
Yeah.
Andy Petrillo
And I don't know why this has lagged so far behind, which is so unfortunate, because Italians can put together some nice rooms here. I was expecting some nice decor, you know, some nice carpet, maybe a nice couch. Italians make great leather sofas. I don't know. I was expecting something nice, but I don't know. I don't know why it's lagged behind. That is a big question.
Paul Bissonnette
I want to talk about the book. You just released it. I mean, it's got to just what be about your. Your whole story and how you came to be in the broadcast world, how you got your start.
Andy Petrillo
Yeah. So I. I share a lot of sports stories, so there's, like, a lot of stories there that are just, like, for me in the industry, obviously, my time with the Toronto Maple Leafs, when I got the job there, traveling with them, and just, like, having to work hard to be accepted by Matt Sundeen. He was the captain at the time, and he did not like that an outsider was coming out. Because I worked for mlse, so that's why I got to travel on the charter, too. So I was, like, privy to certain injuries. Like, you know how it is. You guys go on the plane, that's when you put your ice packs on and stuff. So I started to know about that. And Matt wasn't very happy about somebody who would be in the know of things, who he didn't quite know. So he was, like. He was a little aloof in the beginning. I wouldn't say he was, like, mean or nasty, but I would be like, hey, Matt. And he would never say hi. Like, just walk right past me. Even in the book, I share this story where. And I don't know why we did this, but the media, we always sat at the back of the charter, but they would always let the team board first. So then it's like going through the gauntlet to get to your seat. I'm like, why? But the players had to board first. So now I. I get into the plane and I'm trying to make my way to the seat. Matt sees me, he gets up and then, like, starts fiddling with his bag in the overhead compartment, but he's not doing anything. Like, he's just blocking my way because he can. And then he sits down to make a point, like, I didn't do shit, but I just made you wait. And I'm like, thanks, Matt. Nothing blanks me. And then about three months into the season when I guess he realized, oh, okay, she's legit. Like, she can be trusted. I was coming down, we were in New York, the Leafs were taken on the Rangers. And I'm in the lobby getting ready to go out to dinner. I'm like, what's up? Matt's not even expecting a high because he always blanked me. And he's like, what's up, Andy?
Paul Bissonnette
I said, what the hell in the trust tree.
Andy Petrillo
And there you go. And that was it.
Whitney
That was your welcome to the NHL.
Andy Petrillo
That was my welcome to the NHL. When Matt's finally said, what's up, Andy? Thank you.
Nate MacKinnon
That's awesome. That's awesome.
Andy Petrillo
So that's what the book. Yeah, I got a lot. I got a lot of those stories. Trips to Afghanistan with the Stanley cup. And then, yeah, like, I share a lot of things that I dealt with that, quite frankly, women deal with more so than men. So there's a lot of those kind of stories, experiences that I included, because when I wrote the book, I asked myself, what do a lot of young women ask me when I do speaking engagements? And I said, okay. They asked me about, you know, what. What, like, right down to, like, what do I wear on tv? Because women are just so harshly judged by what they wear, Right? That's how they determine. People just determine a woman's credibility based on her clothes. So that causes a lot of stress for young women with even just what to wear. So I have a chapter on that. I have a chapter on social media. I have a chapter on body image. I have a chapter on ageism, like, all that kind of stuff. But at the same time, I just share a lot of pretty cool stories as well, like how I almost lost the Stanley cup ring in Afghanistan, but I didn't, so it's all good.
Paul Bissonnette
So major, like, a. A big part of why you did it was to give women a heads up as to if you're going to enter the space, or at least that's your story of how it. It kind of went through. And I guess, hopefully it's. It's changed a little bit and it's better than it. Than it once was.
Andy Petrillo
I hope so. I mean, yes, in a lot of ways, it really has, because, like, I remember again, like, I started covering the Leafs in 2006, and I would walk into that room and I would still be one, maybe two women in that room at the time. And definitely when I went on the road, like, when I went to smaller markets like Nashville or Arizona, when I would walk into a room, the room would just go silent because they just couldn't believe that, like, a woman was walking in. And at the time, too, I had, like, long bleach, blonde hair, red coat. Like, I didn't exactly blend into the walls. So you knew when I walked into a room and I would get stopped all the time, by the way, in those rings, like, security all the time, would always ask to see my credentials. They would never ask to see, like, Joe Bowen or Jimmy Ralph or those. They would never ask them. They'd always thought me. I would always get. Miss, are you lost? Ma', am, can I help you? I'm like, no, I'm good. So, like, things like that have changed now where I'm at rings, like, I mean, obviously everyone needs to have their credentials, but I find that there are way more women now. We don't get singled out as much. Before, women were like, you got to be ringside or sideline. Now you got women doing color, play by play. So, yeah, for sure. Now I walk into a room and there are a lot of women in it, which is great on so many fronts. The one thing. And obviously I say this in jest, but the one cool thing, when I was, like, one of the only women, especially covering the Leafs, there was no lineup to the bathroom for me. Now I gotta wait.
Paul Bissonnette
That's nice. That's nice.
Whitney
You touched on Joe Joe, and you know, he's retiring this year. Like, what has he meant to you and the Leafs in general? And how cool is it to kind of be around it this year with it being his last year?
Andy Petrillo
I love Bonesy. And when I read it was the summertime, I think it was in June when I saw him put that out on Twitter, it was going to be his last year. And I actually got emotional and cried. I couldn't believe it because I don't know me covering the NHL without Joe Bowen because he's been so awesome. And again, like those times on the road, there were a lot of times in road ranks where I would sit between him and Jim Ralph and watch the game and I would just have my own personal play by play in color. So I would sit up in the booth with them and he gave me some, you know, great piece of advice because again, that's. I feel like a lot of women will probably feel this pressure more in the industry, maybe more so than guys. But like one time I was dating a guy a thousand years ago and I had to work on Valentine's Day. And like that just ticked him off because he just, you know, I don't know. I just want to go on Valentine's Day.
Keith Yandle
I was mad about it.
Andy Petrillo
A guy, the guy was mad about it.
Keith Yandle
No wonder you're not with him anymore.
Andy Petrillo
Oh yeah, he's gone. But I remember I was on the road, I was kind of struggling with this. So I go to the gym to work out and kind of like think about things. And I see Bonesy and I tell him my predicament. And he turned to me and he said, how often does Valentine's Day come around that you can like celebrate with your boyfriend? Like every year? All right. How often do you get a chance to make an incredible impression on your boss to prove that you're serious about this industry? And I'm like, once he's like, there's your answer. Like, get your ass to work. You'll celebrate another time. And I did. And I just like, I remember, take.
Paul Bissonnette
Those roses and shove them up your ass. I got work to do.
Andy Petrillo
Yeah, yeah, exactly, Andy.
Paul Bissonnette
So I have a. I think we've been going for 240 here. I have to go because I have a haircut appointment and I haven't got been able to get to see my guy. These guys are going to continue with you. Congratulations on the book launch and, and everything you got going. And thanks for being such an amazing host to us at the coast to coast and everything else you do.
Andy Petrillo
Thanks, Biz. Hey, I like the curly cues, but whatever. Go get you.
Paul Bissonnette
Well, I just got to get the Side cleaned up a little bit. I'm a little bit of a grease ball right now.
Andy Petrillo
It's all good. I'll see you later.
Keith Yandle
Going for a haircut.
Whitney
He also. His. Andy, his last haircut, the guy wasn't doing it the way that he wanted to, so he sitting in the chair, grabbed the clippers and started cutting his arm.
Keith Yandle
He was doing his own haircut.
Andy Petrillo
Why? Why even pay a guy if you're just gonna do it yourself?
Keith Yandle
You can ask why. A lot of different. A lot of different times about this. A lot of different times. Andy. We got RA coming on soon, but I need to know what teams from Canada will be in the playoffs when the regular season ends besides Edmonton. That's obvious. Even the stats Is like they're 96 in.
Andy Petrillo
Well, I mean, the way they're playing, for sure. Edmonton, the way they're playing, for sure Montreal, I can't see them dropping off whatsoever. I think even the way the Leafs are playing, although the injuries, you know, got me nervous, but I think I would put the Leafs in there. And then quite honestly, guys, I don't know. I mean, Calgary would kind of be a dark horse for me, only because they were.500 in December. And then they've kind of been stinking it up, obviously, to start the new year. And, you know, they. They went from being like a couple points back of a wild card spot to now dropping. But, like, that's kind of it for me for sure. Montreal for sure. Edmonton. And then I'm looking at Toronto. I would say Ottawa. I don't think James Reimer is their answer in the meantime. Like when they just sign them to that pizzo till Omar comes back. But you saw what happened once again. They had to pull their goalie last night, and then they took him out and made a goalie change again because the poor new guy was just getting destroyed by Colorado. Like, I like Ottawa's team. I just don't like their goaltending. And then Winnipeg. I want to have faith, but do you have any time they step on the ice, do you have any kind.
Keith Yandle
Of faith that the 3 and 20 in their last 23 games, but with Montreal, because that's the game Monday night. Montreal, Vancouver. I mentioned very different directions. Like I always say, Montreal is one of the most fun teams to watch in the league. Do you agree with that? Like, what do you like about their team for that game, too?
Andy Petrillo
Yeah, fast, dynamic, but they also have bodies that can hit. They got big guys too, Jack. I mean, you look at Caulfield, Suzuki, they're the, like they're just so entertaining to watch. They're going to get guys back. I think Guli is, is going to be back, you know, imminent. So. I like that. I like their blue line to Mike Matheson just goes about his business and just gets the job done. And their goaltending is starting to look good. Maybe it was a little bit of a wake up call to, to San Montimo who, I mean, yeah, I know he's the third string four nations but now you don't get, you know, named to Olympics. It's like, yeah, because you kind of got to be good consistently. And I think the goaltendings turned around a little bit, but. And they're also doing this too. Like they're also getting the job done. Special teams without a guy who's a special team monster and Patrick Line who's not expected to be back until end of February. So. And I, and I love Marty St. Louis. Like I just, I love talking to him. I love the way he sees the game. He's so informative. Every time we get to have like our coaches chats with him before the game. I had a chance to another story I share in the book. Him and Joe Thornton. Two summers in a row we shot hockey videos that were sold in Kellogg's boxes.
Whitney
So yeah, that means you've been around a long time, Andy.
Andy Petrillo
I know maybe I shouldn't have admitted that because they're like act. Well, they were like little USB keys at the time. Not like, you know, floppy disks or anything, I'm not battle.
Whitney
But VHS in your Cheerios.
Andy Petrillo
Like why is this box so heavy? But like one year we did ball hockey and then the next year we were on the ice and even then Marty, like, I know it's Lauriana who has the nickname the professor, right? But like to me Marty could have that nickname because of the way he just like. And before we would like do every shoot, Joe Thornton would show up and he's like, I don't care. He's like, tell me what I'm doing. And then he would ad lib and it would be hilarious. Marty's like, no, I need to know step by step, where's the lighting going to be? Where's the props? Kind of like he just, you know, so he has that mind that works that way and you see that in his coaching. But he's just, he's a ton of fun. I love Montreal. How can you not. Like, they're just. Yeah, they're dynamic.
Keith Yandle
A fun team to watch. 7:30 Eastern Monday, Vancouver, Montreal. Andy, you do an awesome job. Looking forward to our next appearance at coast to Coast. I think that's coming up in a little bit. January at some point. And we'll see you soon.
Andy Petrillo
All right, guys, thanks for having me.
Keith Yandle
All right, see you later.
Whitney
Thanks, Andy.
Keith Yandle
I think some of her best advice there to young women out who or maybe dating a guy who's very, very into Valentine's Day and is going to be super upset. You can't go out. It's time to hit the portal. Right. You can't. You can't be dating a guy who is that upset. If Valentine's Day plans are ruined.
Whitney
That's a bad.
Keith Yandle
All right, before we get to Ari's, well brutal news for the Rangers. I don't know if anything's been announced about Shusturkin, but that did not look good. That sucks. I don't. I don't know. G. Maybe you can look into that and. And can. We could chat with RA if you have any news.
Kelly Chase
But he's been.
Biz Nasty
He's been put on ir.
Keith Yandle
Okay.
Whitney
Short term IR I thought I saw. But it's. Yeah, like you look at the Rangers year, they can't score. The only reason they're even in it a little bit is Shusturkin.
Keith Yandle
Right.
Whitney
And with him going, even though quick's been really good, he just hasn't got the run support. But to have him, hopefully it's only a week or whatever, but that. That is not a. Not a good injury you want to see. If you're a New York Rangers fan.
Keith Yandle
Fan and Adam Fox, I think his trip to the IR is like you're missing like eight to ten games or. Or three weeks. I don't know exactly.
Biz Nasty
So he got put on LTIR, which means he must miss 10 games in 24 days. So that's. That's wild that. That could kick them right out of the playoffs.
Keith Yandle
That's two enormous hits. But we'll see what RA has to chat about. So bring that guy in right now. Last episode on YouTube. Ra's World.
Paul Bissonnette
Hello.
Biz Nasty
Everybody. Welcome to our Ray's world here in the Spitting Chickens podcast. Boys. What an episode so far. All kinds of special guests for our last YouTuber appearance here. It's been great so far. Keep it rolling here for just a follow up with Kelly Chase. Awesome to have him on ice. Guardians is available on prime if you haven't seen it yet. It's a great documentary about fighters and what they mean to teams. Awesome interviews and Chase has the probably the best quote at the end of the documentary. So check that out. Good stuff as well. Celebrini. I bought stock on him earlier with. I got 75 to 1 to win the hot trophy. I put that in November.
Keith Yandle
What are the odds now? I hate one.
Biz Nasty
I'm not even sure. I just, I. I locked it at 75. I haven't looked back since. So. Yeah, I can't believe what this kid is doing at 19 years old. I mean, he's going to be 19 for the whole season. Like I always. I said a million times already, Bruins, early game shots, late game, no matter what. It's been a treat to watch. And the Senators thing, I don't know. Do you remember when Monty Burns was shot on the Simpsons? And like the guy's like, what happened? He's like, won't dignify with response that remind me the Senators, like why. Why even validate that? Like when you.
Scott Laughton
Yeah.
Biz Nasty
People are talking that you just like can. Then I think that just feeds it puts gas in the fire. Celebrini. Plus 500 to win the heart right now.
Keith Yandle
Well, and yours is. It's 75 to 1.
Kelly Chase
Wow.
Keith Yandle
What's your hedge right now?
Biz Nasty
What's that? You can't. It's tough to hedge, really. Plus, I mean, I think I got a C note on it too.
Keith Yandle
Oh, no, no.
Whitney
But I like a buyout.
Keith Yandle
Yeah.
Pasha
What?
Keith Yandle
No, no, I think I'm just saying, like I bet you the number's already pretty ridiculous. But. All right, I'll be right back. You keep going.
Biz Nasty
All right, buddy. No problem. First off, I want to give a shout out to our guy, John Cooper coaches 1000th NHL game the other night and they ended up winning it as well. Team gave him a very nice ceremony the next home game. He also has 155 playoff games, four Stanley Cup Final appearances, two Cups as well. And I liked how the broadcast gave a nod to his video coach Brian Gallock as well. He's been in his like a number one with Coop forever. So it's pretty cool to see that. How like you must know Coop a little bit Yandel playing, you know, on the league so long.
Whitney
Yeah. Just. Just a complete gentleman. A guy that even when he came in, he was always one of the. Like the way that you walk into the arena in Tampa. Like you have to walk by the other team, their meal room where they work out, then their locker room. And he would always like. I felt like I always ran into him and he was just always one of those guys that would just say hello, ask you, how you doing? Ask you about your family. Like didn't, whatever we're playing you in three hours. Didn't care about that. Like he was just like, just a real gentleman, you know and like a, just a truly a great guy to have for the game and you know, to coach a thousand games and all with Tampa. Right. It's, it's incredible to, to do that in the success that he's had with the superstars, that he's had to be able to keep them all in check. As long as he has it, it's amazing what he's done.
Biz Nasty
How about his bet with Frankie Borelli? That was so cool that he's just like in an NHL postseason press conference just talking about this like Borellis and.
Keith Yandle
This bet that he had with Frankie.
Biz Nasty
That was awesome. Yeah, that was good. You guys already talked about the jets, but I did want to follow up on that a little bit. They're in jeopardy wit of becoming the first fifth team in history, NHL history, to go from having the best record in the league to missing the playoffs the next year. The Rangers did it twice.93 and then 2025. Bruins did it in 2015 and believe it or not, the save is back in 2008. I, I feel like, you know, they lost Nikolai Ayles. I think that's been a huge loss for him. He's an eight time 20 goal scorer. Oh, they brought in Nyquist and Taves, but combined they only got three goals between the two of them. But I want to ask, I'll go to you first, Whit. Like when you're on a team that's sort of free falling like that, how ugly does the locker room get a guy stipe at each other? Is there a unity thing? Like how does that like play in the locker room? You know, it seems losing 8, 9, 10 in a row like this.
Keith Yandle
Well, the real bad teams I was on in Edmonton, it was the expectations going into the season were super low. Now that doesn't really, you know, affect the locker room because you're still trying to win. You still believe that you can win. But it's probably even more difficult this year considering what Winnipeg had last year and that first round win. And I don't know, I, I think that having good leadership throughout the toughest times is super important. I don't know anything or anyone in that locker room. But I do know what we mentioned Monday with Luke Shen being scratched by in Toronto for what would have been 1100th game like that. That's not going to help the room it might help the room galvanize against the coach even more if they already were. But that's not, like, something that's getting the team vibes even higher or any better than where they're at. So the locker room can be. It's just really hard to come into the room after a loss the next day of practice. And you kind of need guys to. To be smiling, like, when you're losing, right? Yeah, everyone's pissed off. But if you keep losing on every morning, it's quiet. You're like, oh, here we go again. We got practice. We got another game tomorrow night. Like, are we gonna lose again? You actually want to come into a room the next day and have guys. All right, it's over. On to the next one. I don't know what's going on in there, but it's. It's exhausting, and it's stressful. It's like. That's what I think of the stresses of losing. Being in Canada and losing and having a team last year that you thought could have won the Stanley cup and going into this year had the same idea, but the Eelers lost. That's a good point by you that we didn't bring up. That's just a lot of goals. You're missing a lot of points.
Biz Nasty
At least, Keith, to you now. Same situation. Like, the guys call each other out, do they? Is it a fight like you matches? Is it miserable going away work every day? I'm just kind of curious about this. When you're in such.
Whitney
Yeah, yeah. Those are usually kind of when you. You'll see a fight in practice or something where guys. And it's not even that guys are mad at each other, because at the end of the day, everyone's trying their hardest given 100. But it's just the nature of the beast where, yeah, you're gonna. Like, shit's gonna happen in practice. But what Whit said, like, the stress level, that's what's really. And then. And then it's like, okay, who's gonna get traded? Who's. Who's going to be out like you. When it's getting closer to the trade deadline, you start seeing guys with the bigger suitcases, like, hey, if I get traded, I have to have stuff with me. So, you know, and then that adds stress at home. Right. If you're married with kids, you're like, oh, God, we're gonna have to sell our house. So I think the biggest thing, and Whit made a good point is the stress levels just get amplified even more But I think they have, I mean they got Jonathan Toews, they got Lowry, they got guys in there that know what they're doing. They're veterans in the league, so I can't.
Keith Yandle
Yeah, but the top dogs, the top dogs who maybe are underperforming, they feel stress. And then the fourth line, fifth and sixth D, that's when you start seeing lineup moves with them out of the lineup. So then they're stressed about their job and their place in the league. So it's. Yeah, it's just like everyone, they're going through different levels of it and guys, you know, like Kyle Connor or Mark Scheifele, like they're not going anywhere. These are established NHL stars, but they're on a losing team. They're panicking as well as the guys who might be losing their jobs, possibly being sent down. So it's. Yeah, it's a disaster.
Biz Nasty
Yeah, I mean they only three double digit goal scorers. Scheifele with 20, Connor with 21, Veladi with 17. And then you got to go all the way down. Three guys are tied with seven goals each and two of those guys are defensemen. So scoring's been a big issue. And it's just a stunning turnaround. 11 losses in a row, fewest points in the NHL at 35, they're 11 back of the second, wild God. 25 points back of third place in the Central. So yeah, just kind of a stunning turn of events up in Winnipeg. But moving along to World Juniors. I know you guys mentioned it earlier, Congrats to the Swedes once again on the third championship. And hats off to the checks man. These guys, they're just born to be hockey players. They don't stop all game. They turn that game into a nail biter. I know they didn't, weren't able to tie it up, but this is the fourth time in a row that they've got a medal. The pace of play, the skill, the whole tournament, it's just unreal. I actually had the juniors on one TV and then you know, an NHL game on the other and it was like noticeably the difference. It was almost like watching like a senior league with the NHL compared to the intensity with the World Juniors. But I also like too how at the end when they were giving the awards of how they, they recognize the officiating crew. Like, I don't know, everyone dumps on the refs and the lines. But I thought that was a pretty nice gesture. But the big talk though was the attendance and my buddy at the World Hockey Report. He was definitely trolling with this stuff. There it is right here. You know, it's a tough look. I know tickets were pricey and you had to buy this whole package, but basically it ended up becoming a buyer's market because if you just kind of waited, you can go on game time and getting, you know, people are paying 25 to go sit in the glass versus somebody to watch some of these games. But I think something that people really haven't mentioned is Canadians stayed home. Canadians that. That semi final game that would have been normally sold out. 18,000 people in that place. And, you know, I've talked to some Canadian friends and, you know, reading online, and basically they just sort of. I don't know if it's an official boycott, but they just don't want to come down to the country and spend their money given, you know, what's transpired over the last few months. But I think that was probably the biggest factor that a lot of people haven't mentioned. You agree on that, Whit?
Keith Yandle
Well, I. I said I got no problem if it's in Canada every year. And I'm not saying winning the gold medal means more to Canadians than every player from every country, but the attendance and the viewership, it does mean more. Up there. The US Games were packed, but ideally in Canada, a lot of the other games are packed as well. And I think that would be the case. I know I got to play in Halifax. That was very special. I know it'll be packed next year when it's back in Canada. I got no problem. That's the only place, by the way, you can call it the United States all you want. If this is in Sweden, it's not. It's not crowded. If Sweden's not playing, if it's in Finland, I don't know, but I don't think I'm. Canada's the one place that those games will be packed. So put it in Canada. And it makes it even more special, the times the US has won in Canada.
Whitney
Where. Where is it in Canada next year?
Keith Yandle
Red Deer and Edmonton, I think.
Biz Nasty
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Keith Yandle
So that'll be. That'll be. It'll be packed. It'll be awesome. And getting to play Canada's a memory that I. Every single guy that plays against Canada in that tournament will never forget. And we'll know that the attendance will be incredible. So I don't know. I mean, there's probably nowhere else in Minnesota. I don't even know if it was in Boston. I don't think the US Games would be sold out. It's just not as big of a deal here. Right.
Biz Nasty
Definitely agree on that. I think Boston would be way better though, just because of all the smaller college ranks that you have. So like all these empty rinks wouldn't look half as empty if you're playing, playing at Harvard. If you're playing at a Gannis arena as opposed to.
Keith Yandle
Oh no, they'd be packed.
Biz Nasty
They'd be packed and the fans would be on top of the ice and it would be an awesome environment.
Kelly Chase
And I've also been told, like the.
Biz Nasty
East coast is a lot more like the Europeans. They don't want to fly to Minnesota. So like, that's why Florida, Boston and New York are being considered for the next one.
Keith Yandle
Just Florida would have nobody there.
Biz Nasty
I disagree. Like, I really do.
Kelly Chase
Like, I think if it was in.
Biz Nasty
Tampa, we went down to the frozen four in Tampa, 90 of the people that were there was just guys trips. They're like, oh, we can go watch some hockey in Tampa and go hang on the beach.
Whitney
Yeah, that's a one weekend though, this.
Keith Yandle
Tournament, the US Games. Yeah, but every other game there would be nobody in Florida. It'd be, it'd be, it'd be exactly what you just saw.
Whitney
And they'd have to be at NHL arena. So it would look even worse. I think, I think you made a great point with the, with the, around Boston because like I went to that Harvard game. It's the perfect size, whatever it is, 3500 for something like that. You could put Finland versus Sweden. Then the big boys put at whatever the USA Canada is at that, the Fleet Center. So I, I think Boston would be good. I know Whit, you said in. What was it? 99. It was not good.
Keith Yandle
It was out 6 or 95.
Biz Nasty
Marlboro is crazy. This New England sports center where I'm playing like my mic tournaments is nuts.
Whitney
Yeah.
Keith Yandle
And they had the, and, and you know they have the, the room up top where you could see down into all the rinks and be warm. And that game they had like blacked out the windows because they were like three dollar tickets. Like yeah, buy a ticket to go in. You couldn't stand out. Watch the world Juniors.
Biz Nasty
So yeah, I don't think the boys are like Minnesota in the winter time too. It's not like conducive to all the guys that all the guys together go to the Midwest.
Whitney
And a lot of stuff going on in Minnesota right now too. So probably not the.
Biz Nasty
Okay, but I want to talk about two. Zane correct. Defenseman For Calgary there, you know, he was very candid with the media. I guess he's a, you know, pretty outgoing kid and he had the quote. I think it's more watching NHL guys be robots and not having any personality. And then when I'm in Calgary, I definitely have a lot of guys that are telling me to give real simple answers, but here I could kind of do what I want. And you know, there was a, there was a brush back and he had to walk it back a couple days later I said, I quote, I think some things get spun out of proportion. I sincerely apologize to the Flames organization, my teammates. At the end of the day, that's not acceptable. It can't happen. At first I was like, man, you know, this is, we're trying to get more personality in the league. And then this kid says something, everyone shouts him down. But I thought about a bit. I think what like probably ruffled feathers in the locker room, Keith, was that we said, when I'm in Calgary, I definitely have a lot of guys that are telling me to give real simple answers. Like to me that's like, that's not something you would probably say. In other words, I'm sure every rookie has that from every guy, but I think that's probably what if he did piss his teammates off, Was more pissed off about that than the robot comment.
Whitney
Yeah, for sure. And I mean, realistically, like when an 18 year old is talking, it's, you know, he, he hasn't lived. Like there's some guys on his team with 35 years old that have been through it all, like they're trying to help him out. It's like, hey, you don't. If you say less is more sometimes. Right. So they're probably trying to help him out. But I get what he's saying. I, I like the kid. I interviewed him actually, right after he got drafted. That was at the, in Vegas, at the, at the Sphere there. So great personality on him. I, I think he's good for the game. I, you know, it's, it's one of those things, you're in Canada, you gotta, you gotta watch what you say. Sometimes you don't want to give other teams bulletin board material. But yeah, at the end of the day he, he said something an 18 year old kid would say that's in the moment, he's playing for his country. So I didn't put too much stock into it.
Keith Yandle
Guys telling me if he hadn't mentioned guys on that team, then there's no problem at all. Yeah, but I think right Right away, when he saw the response, or even before that, he, he, I imagine he'd say, oh, that's kind of wish I could take that one back. Just bringing up anyone on the Flames, right? Like, you're not even with the team right now. Right. You've been there this year. But, like, don't even bring up guys on your team as a rookie who, but telling you things like he said, trying to help you. But yeah, it was, it was still overblown.
Whitney
Yeah, yeah.
Biz Nasty
And even, I mean, mackenzie Wiegie, he even said, you know, same thing. I don't like when player play, players are robots either. The truth about it is the guys in the league got robots on them. So that's what I, I, they didn't come out and say, oh, he, you know, sort of talked out of school, like, about guys tell him not to say this, but yeah, at first I was like, ah, man, let the kid talk. But I realized after, like, yeah, it was more so like, what happens in the locker room stays in the locker room. And I think that's what maybe he violated. But if you were in the league, Keith, when something like this was said by a rookie, would you be pissed off? Like, how would you have, you know, approach it with a young guy if he, you know, said something similar?
Whitney
Yeah, you definitely get harassed a little. I mean, not like you'd, you'd razz them a little bit. You know, your shoes, you just make them do media every day. Yeah, Cement in the shoes. I'd, you know, you'd make them do media every single day. Because usually if, if, you know, usually when they ask you a bunch of days in a row, you'll say, hey, give it to somebody else. But you would just make him do it every day as a joke and learn his lesson. But I'm sure he already learned his lesson. Like you said, he took it all back and whatever. It's water under the bridge, I would imagine.
Biz Nasty
Yeah. At the end of the day, not that big of a deal. So moving right along, this, this little something that grinded my gears a couple weeks back. A couple buddies of mine, Captain Collins and Dante Apostle, like, complaining about the way strangers dress on airplanes. You know, this, this had become a talk about, you know, like, dressed nice on an airplane. It's like, dude, what are you talking about? It's not 1950 anymore. Like, I'm not saying, like, wear flip flops like this clown right here, but I'm like this. Who gives a. What a stranger's wearing? Like, I'm, I'm all for comfort. It's not like there's nothing worse than having a belt and jeans on for a five hour flight. And I thought, wow, consent. Dante will be on. Kind of snobs about it. Like. Like, I don't. Like, you want to see care. Like, yeah, no one wants to see feet. Nobody wants to see pajamas. But, like, wait, did what people wear actually annoy you? Keith, when you're on a plane like this, has anyone actually pissed you off by not having a suit on?
Whitney
No, no, no. I'm. I'm all for comfort too, especially if you're a long flight. But you can also wear a nice sweat, like, sweatsuit that doesn't look like you're homeless, but the showing off of the feet. Like, just imagine if you don't have TSA pre check and you have to take your shoes off and put them in and then walk to through, like, barefoot. If I have to do that, I usually wear two pairs of socks and then I throw one out. Like, it's like that. That's crazy. Wearing sandals.
Keith Yandle
But yeah, maybe no sandals unless you have socks on, which is tough.
Biz Nasty
Look.
Keith Yandle
Although I think the kids do that. And then maybe no, like, tank tops for guys. Right? Like, maybe just wear like a T shirt.
Biz Nasty
I think smell is the biggest thing as long as you don't smell. And I think that's the thing with the feet. Like, you, you're wearing flip flops. Maybe there's like, oh, their feet could stink. You're wearing raggedy clothes.
Kelly Chase
Maybe those could stink.
Biz Nasty
I'm with RA the airlines don't respect us. Why the should we respect them? I'm. I'm all in on wearing comfort clothes. It. But you gotta shower before. I shower before every flight.
Kelly Chase
Or at least at the very least the night before.
Biz Nasty
I don't want to be sitting next to a guy who hasn't showered in 48, 72 hours. That's just. That's disgusting.
Keith Yandle
You should ideally be showering every day. Yeah, that's not deodorant. Deodorant's big brush. The taste. Toothpaste. Yeah, I. I didn't know it was making people that upset already, though. I wasn't aware.
Biz Nasty
Yeah, I mean, horseback does the same trick. You know, I think you need to shower before you get in a plane. Just don't be a stinky. Yeah, because Con said basically, like, in clothed cognition, he's. He's cite all this, like, psycho babble. It's been studied. What we wear absolutely impacts our behavior. People tend to be more irritable when they're in a relaxed state of mind. I was like, bro, what the f. You talking about? I love Captain Cons. But I thought he was going off the deep one with this one. And then he mentioned. What was it? Oh, the whole mincy stuff. They went to dinner the other night and I guess we don't take our hats off inside restaurants. I got it. Like now everybody wears hats all the time. When I'm eating, I take the hat off just, just to get out of the way. But like, is that a big deal? Like wearing a hat to a restaurant? I mean.
Keith Yandle
Wait, so you do what he said? What?
Whitney
He takes it off just while he's eating?
Biz Nasty
Just while I'm eating? Not like out of like a, like, like a politeness.
Keith Yandle
You'll sit at dinner, hat on, food comes, hat off, finish food, hat back on.
Biz Nasty
Yeah, basically, yeah.
Keith Yandle
Why do you take the hat off to eat?
Biz Nasty
I don't know. Sometimes I'll, I might even spin it. Go, go, Ken Griffey Jr. Style and just put it backwards. But just the idea, like, I don't know if, like I'll wear a hat in a, right inside a restaurant. Like, dude, it's again, it's not the 50s anymore. I love cons, but some of these.
Keith Yandle
Well, I know in our kitchen and I remember growing up, if I had a hat and I sat down for family meal, like, if I didn't take that hat off, that hat was being taken off for me. And now when my boys have hats on, hey, take your hat off while we eat. Yeah, but out of a restaurant, I wear a hat and I'm eating. So I, I guess I'm more looking at it at home. At a dinner at home.
Whitney
Yeah. No hats allowed in the house. My, my father in law, if you walk into his house with a hat, it doesn't matter if you're 50 years old, he'll tell you to take it off. Which I absolutely respect and love that about him. But in the restaurants, I think nowadays it's so like, you know, as long as you're not wearing a dirty, like she said, a dirty, grubby hat. I guess if you're looking good and you know, because at the end of the day, some of us are balding a little bit, you want to hide it or whatever the case is. You haven't got a haircut in a little bit, like busy and it's just kind of one of those things you can, you can dress it up nice enough. But yeah, don't wear a dirty hat that looks like You've been in the sand lot all day?
Biz Nasty
Yeah, my grandfather, like, he would take my. He would throw it out the window if I, you know, walked inside the house, what I had on. But that was my grandfather. He's not. Not cons. But like G just said, though, I think the airline's just kind of reaping what they. What they sold. You know, they've been treating customers like, for all this time, and, like, so people are just like, all right, I'm gonna dress like a slob because you're jamming us in this tube 35, 000ft in the air.
Whitney
But.
Keith Yandle
Well, I mean, they're like, you're choosing to fly.
Whitney
They're getting us to our location.
Keith Yandle
Yeah, they're like, they're helping you go somewhere you want.
Whitney
No one's forcing you on that plane.
Keith Yandle
Jamming you in the tube.
Biz Nasty
But, I mean, you've been flying for a long time.
Keith Yandle
You.
Biz Nasty
You can acknowledge that, like, yeah, travel has definitely taken a dip, like, customer service wise. Just, you know, it used to be like a. Like, sort of almost a luxury to fly. Now it's just like, I don't know, you feel like you're in a cattle car or something these days. No.
Keith Yandle
Yeah, I. I gotta be honest. Like, I. I'm fine. Fly first class. I know the haters are gonna not like this. It's not that bad for me. I know I'm not sitting where a lot of people are sitting. I gotta be honest, though. Right now, I couldn't sleep at night if I didn't make it clear. I feel pretty comfortable flying.
Whitney
The. The only thing I have against it and when it does happen is if you sit on the tarmac for four hours and then don't leave. Like, just let us go back to the gate. That's the only gripe I. I have with airlines, but at the end of the day, they get me to where I want to be, and it's usually pretty good.
Biz Nasty
You just mentioned dirty hats. I know we talked about it earlier. My pin tweet. If you're looking at clean hats, I have the best thing. You take it in the shower. I put the recipe on a blog. So if you have old dirty hats that you have a sentimental value to go to.
Keith Yandle
My pins, I've done it. Ra Works to perfection.
Biz Nasty
Works like a charm. All right. This week's classic recommendation. Brian De Palma, 1993 Kalido's Way, starring Al Pacino. For my money, I think it's the most underrated gangster flick out there. Al Pacio, he Plays a Puerto Rican gangster, just gets out of jail. He's trying to do the right thing, but the streets are kind of luring him back to that sort of lifestyle. I'm assuming you both, you guys have seen it.
Whitney
Yes.
Keith Yandle
Great flick. Sean Penn as well, I believe.
Biz Nasty
Yeah, yeah, yeah. He's sort of like a Dershowitz type lawyer, like. Like David Kleinfeld that he plays such a good scumbag. But, yeah, if you haven't seen it, Khalida's way legit. One of the best gangster films ever. Brian De Palma, awesome director. Give that a look. See? And to wrap up, got a couple picks. Wait, Ra. Before you do your picks here, I got a little breaking news. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Keith Yandle
Biz is cutting his own hair again.
Biz Nasty
Oh, that would be unbelievable. But the first Olympic test event at Santa Julia arena has been delayed because there is a giant hole in the ice. So that is where the Olympics will be played in less than a month.
Kelly Chase
There is a giant hole in the ice.
Biz Nasty
They can't play test game numero uno. It's not good.
Whitney
All right. At least they're testing it.
Keith Yandle
But this is why you test, right?
Biz Nasty
We test.
Keith Yandle
This is why you make sure everything's going to be working. It usually doesn't work right away. Restaurants, they have their first soft opening week with. With family, friends. Test it out, get the kinks out. We still have over a month, I believe, or maybe right around a month, that ice will be okay. That I will be okay. And those games are going to be amazing.
Whitney
Yes. Shout out to Suzuki, too. I didn't even know that was still a company. See that on the boards.
Keith Yandle
Oh, yeah.
Biz Nasty
I think they make motorcycles in Europe.
Keith Yandle
They don't make cars.
Whitney
Did they make cars?
Keith Yandle
No.
Whitney
Remember the.
Biz Nasty
I know, I know. Motorcycle.
Whitney
Yeah, they do. Okay.
Biz Nasty
I haven't heard that name in ages. And there's no contingency plans either. I know people think, oh, there's a, you know, secondary site.
Keith Yandle
No, it's gonna work because it's gonna work.
Whitney
Yeah.
Biz Nasty
Obviously they might be playing with no.
Keith Yandle
Fans in the building, but the games will be played, and the games will be on, and it'll be great.
Whitney
Yeah, we will be watched.
Biz Nasty
Can't wait. Less than a month to go. All right, a couple picks for you. I think I went one and one last week. I'm not 100. Sure, but I like the Capitals tonight. They're only minus 125 there at Chicago. The Black Blackhawks Caps lost their last game, and so Basically, take a minus 125. Whatever you put on that, put half that bet on the puck line per usual. Minus one and a half. You get back plus 190. And this weekend. I love Carolina with the points. I know they're not a great team. Everybody's all over the Rams. But just as far as a home dog playoff game, getting 10 points at home. I don't care who's playing. I'm just going to jump all over that so that I got it at 10. I would buy the half point up to 10 and a half. Go with the Panthers and I put a small sprinkle on the money line at +440 as well. Who do you like in this game with.
Keith Yandle
I hadn't really thought about that game because I considered that the only based on the lines, not close game like I was kind of thinking the Rams should be able to handle them. Yeah, that is a lot of points. But every other game it's around like two and a half, three I think so. Very exciting weekend of football. There's also the game tonight. Indiana, Oregon. I'll ride that with you though, Ra. I think a couple weeks back you gave Carolina at home against somebody and they ended up winning that game.
Biz Nasty
Yeah, I think it was Green, Green, Green Bay.
Keith Yandle
Yeah. So that, that this has already brought you a little luck. Them at home getting points. Yeah, we'll ride with that again. I'm with you.
Biz Nasty
Let's go. Let's do it. I want to offer spitting chickens, condolences to family and friends of hockey hall of Famer Glenn Hall.
Keith Yandle
Glad you brought this up.
Biz Nasty
94 years old, he passed away 502 consecutive stats as a goalie. Adding the playoffs was 552. No backup. Never come out in 552 straight games. No masks, just absolutely incredible. Just insane stuff to think about. The guy that many games consecutively, no match. Just an absolute legend of the game. Mr. Goalie, as he was known. Yeah, he won a Stanley cup, the called the trophy a con Smythe and three Vestas in his 18 year career. 10 years with Chicago, forward Detroit and forward St. Louis. So I wanted to recognize one of the greatest.
Whitney
They say records are meant to be broken. I will put every single thing I own that that'll never ever get broken.
Keith Yandle
If they ever say, hey, what's a record that's unbreakable. There it is. Yeah, there it is right there. I don't even think a goalie will ever get 100 again.
Scott Laughton
Yeah.
Whitney
No.
Keith Yandle
80 like yeah.
Biz Nasty
500. Yeah. As biz would say, banana lands. And finally I want to thank all of our awesome fans out there. It's been a hell of a ride for the last 10 years. And I know we're making a move over to Netflix, so I just want to tell everybody out there who's stuck with us, whether you're new, old, whatever, we always say it with nothing, without our audience. That's. That's why we're able to do this for a living. We love doing it. And I just want to thank every single person who's, like I said, if they've been day one or day one for them was last week. We love you guys, gals, and we're very happy and very proud to do what we do. And it's all because you folks. So thank you and hopefully we'll see you on Netflix very soon.
Keith Yandle
Well said, RA awesome last episode on Netflix. We got the dog an incredible interview with Kelly Chase. Like that. That's a guy everyone's praying for. I hope everyone's praying for. Unbelievable Human lots comes on Andy Petrillo. Just a great, great time. A great show. I really hope that everyone who watches on YouTube. If you don't want to get Netflix, I understand. If you do, thank you so much. And I hope that you listen to the pod on audio. If you don't want to get Netflix or you're not going to get Netflix, we just really appreciate you. Sorry some people are upset. I hope. Hope some people come over and if not, can still listen to the audio and we'd really appreciate it. And if you don't want to, that's. That's your feeling. That's your right. But we love you all no matter what.
Biz Nasty
We love you guys. And just real quick, like, we will still be on YouTube in Canada until Netflix figures out the podcasting up there. They're working on getting it set up. So we will still be on YouTube in Canada. And just want to reiterate every. Nothing changes with audio. Spotify, Apple, iHeartMedia, every audio app you can get our show on. Nothing changes. Game notes will still be on YouTube. Sandbaggers will still be on YouTube and Chiclets used will still be on YouTube. So YouTube ain't going anywhere and we love our fans so much, you know.
Keith Yandle
Thank you, everyone. Have an awesome weekend and shout out Kelly Chase. Final thing. We'll see you guys on Monday. A bad habit worth breaking, but it's taking time.

Don't let it happen. It's gonna happen again. Out on the course, they're the PGA Tour's best players, but in the arena, they're prime time. And season two of TGL, presented by SoFi, is back with lights, cameras, action. We're talking big moments, big personalities, big names in the stands, all on the big screen. Big time matchups with shot clocks. Hammer drops timeouts, overtime and playoffs. It's city versus city, Squad versus Squad. This sport just hits different under the lights.
