Oh, never in a million years did I expect him to just kind of wake up and be like, what is this? I thought there was a lot of meaning behind it. Now he did say he felt like his back was against the wall, but I hope everyone enjoyed Brock Lesnar. We biz. Thanks for setting that up. It ended up being awesome. I didn't know, I'm not a big wrestling guy, that he doesn't do many interviews. So the wrestling online community, we were all over the wrestling.

Yeah, they were going crazy. There were these like wrestling accounts that were posting videos and clips from the interview or like quoting it. And it was getting like, you know, 70, 80, 90 comments. Some of them, some of them like blew up where they had like, you know, a million like people clicked on the tweet to read what was going on. So never in a million years that I expect it to blow up that much because I didn't realize he just didn't do that many interviews like that. I would just of assume, because I feel like Yan's, you're probably the, the most knowledgeable wrestling guy that a lot of these guys like self promotion is kind of what they do.

[Keith Yandle]

Yeah. But then there's also like an aura to some guys like Undertaker that didn't do a lot of interviews. Stone Cold, like guys like that during their runs, but maybe a little bit since they've retired. Like Stone Cold and Undertaker has. But yeah, he was one of those guys that you never. I mean even just the way he lives.

He lives off the grid. He moved to Canada. Like he doesn't want any publicity, but what a guy. And should we tell the fans now that you're joining the WWE biz?

So he's lived a bunch of different lives. And I'm telling you, you wouldn't have to be a wrestling fan to enjoy it. Just a crazy, interesting guy who's turned into a. Just a hockey dad now. Time is a flat circle. We don't want to compare busy Canada to Iran right now. I mean, that's probably a little bit over our heads, but the NHL playoff race, boys, is not all over our heads. And, and biz, I loved you back at TNT this week. You saw some excellent hockey. I think I kind of want to start with the Ottawa game against Detroit. I don't know if you guys mind if we go there first, because I am. I am so impressed with Ottawa boys. I can't believe what's going on there. And listen, we've brought up throughout the Course of the season that if you look at all the numbers and all the teams out there that just need a save, Ottawa might be the best team. Edmonton's there. But Ottawa, when they get goaltending, they can play with anyone. And they went into New York on Monday night. They were the only game on the slate. And they kind of. Yeah, I sense the sarcasm. They're just like, they got, they got the win. I think they might have thought it had been a little easy, but they pulled it out, no worries. Now in that game, Thomas Shabbat gets cross checked by J.T. miller. I've seen a lot of people on Twitter kind of going at Brady Kachuk about when they are on their podcast with Matthew Brady was talking about what they do and how they would approach somebody who does something to one of their teammates. The way Toronto had a lack of response for the goodest hit on Matthews. So all these Brady Tkachuk haters are like, he didn't do anything to J.T. miller. I gotta be honest, guys. I thought it was a pretty normal frost check type hit. Like maybe people think I'm insane, but it's just like you're cutting across the blue line.

That's not like a vicious cross check. It just caught him in the perfect. And I by mean perfect like Kirby Doc. Yeah, but that was more, that was more like a body check. Right, right. This was just. It just caught him right where the elbow pad ends, the glove ends. And it's shitty because.

Got him right on, right on the button. Sometimes you just hit them right on the perfect spot and then, you know, bingo Bangle. That's such a brutal loss for them, especially the way they've been buzzing and how, how well he's been playing. Obviously my sarcasm was in quickly going over the Rangers. Just a horrendous, horrendous season, especially at home. How many times have been shut out at home? They tied a franchise Worse. Nine shots.

Changed the league. The league. It was almost like Dolan might have called Bettman.

No, I think Drury put out a letter.

They, they, they got another shot which is such like at that point it's like just let us break some sort of record this year as the fewest amount of shots at home we've ever had. With nine. Nope. The next day, the league added shot. So they finished with 10 shots that game. Well, Biz, you're right. That was the night of all nights at msg to be like, holy shit. And I think right when that game ended, it was the next morning. Keith sent a text to the group chat. Did anyone see these five teams being the worst five teams in the East? And there's no chance anyone did. We got the Rangers, we got the Leafs, we got the Panthers, we got the Devils. And who is the fifth worst right now?

The Rangers. Twice.

The Capitals. The Capitals. The Rangers again.

The worst part about it, Mika Zabenjad celebrating his 1000th game. He actually had three shots. He's trying to pull his weight. What a. What a career. He's had over over 800 points in those thousand games. So I know he takes a lot of flack, Mika with the dry hair. But between dropping Mega Mix bangers in Ibiza and playing hockey games and scoring points and conditioning his hair, I mean, what a fucking run. What a run, boys.

Now. So Ottawa, they get that. They get that win against just a horrible hockey team. And mark my thought, sent a tweet out right after and it kind of got me fired up as not even a sense fan, but an Eastern Conference player, playoff race fan. And he said, tomorrow night, like, biggest game of the year. I'm already excited. Said some other things, like, what's up with Shabbat, blah, blah, blah. Well, it didn't come out before the game, but it just came out now Shabbat's out four to eight weeks. Just an ultimate kick in the dick. This is a team that are. They're already playing without Jake Sanderson. So it's like, that's an enormous loss right there. And then you find out that Chaboto, who's played incredible since Sanderson went out with injury, and we get news that Carter. What is it?

Yakim? Chuck Yakimchuk.

We will be able to say this guy's name correctly soon enough because he draws into the lineup and I don't know if for 12 minutes played, one of the most impressive debuts I've ever seen. He starts it off in Detroit with maybe the ballsiest just typical young guy move. He's last guy back at the send me back.

I literally wrote that down. Whit. Like, when did these young guys just get the freedom to do whatever the fuck they want? Like Imagine you, your first game in the NHL with Terry and on the bench, just at the blue line, going between the legs. D to D. Not even like a bump play, D to D. He would

have had him by the left ear down the tunnel. And you fucking read him.

[Keith Yandle]

That's how his ear is so big.

[Yan Stastny]

He would have shoved a cigarette in my mouth. I mean, like smoke this whole thing and go back on the ice. But just an incredible pass over to Stutzel and he fires when it looks like he got it. But Brady tipped it in. Then he scores a beautiful goal. Kind of waits out, waits out the goal. He comes down low. The sens get this enormous win. I feel sick to my stomach. For the Wings fans, I think we chatted right before March, boys. Can the Red Wings figure out March? This is the year. I think they're. I think they might be in one, boys. I think they're fucked. Yeah. And it's just this regulation loss at home to Ottawa. Playing on a back to back with I think five regular defensemen out. But I mean, how do you not pump Ottawa's tires? And the best part about it was a team who's needed goaltending. Linus, oh, Mark stood on his head in the final minute. He robbed Larkin twice. They get the win and it's like, oh my God, the Ottawa Senators, a team that is going. If they finish eighth, whoever wins the east is just going to be sick to their stomach that they have them first biz if it goes down that way.

So another thing too is I think they are second in the league on five. On five analytics. Like outside of goaltending, obviously, which was a major concern in the first half of the season. And you mentioned that like that is a scary team, especially playoff time. We know not as many penalties being called typically if they're able to stay disciplined. And obviously Sanderson skating. So I'm assuming he'll be back and ready to go. And not the worst thing considering Shabbat's out, him getting a little bit of rest, making sure he's completely fresh. Like you're going to be riding him.

30 minutes a game, 32, 30 a game.

[Biz Nasty]

Oh, he's going to be. He's going to be east coast Makar in no time here. So very, very impressive. And like you said, man, I would not want to meet them in the first round of playoffs.

[Keith Yandle]

I think it's one of those things where when you go into the playoffs and especially this year with not as many elite goaltending in the playoff race right now, like, going against all Mark is not something I'd want in the first round. Like, he's kicking, he's feeling it. He's. He's 9, 2 and 2 since coming back from his time off or whatever. So he's just been absolutely incredible. Got everything figured out. And he's just playing outstanding right now. And they're playing good in front of him too.

[Biz Nasty]

We. We actually had a debate on, on TNT about Coach of the Year and the Jack Adams Trophy. We can get into that whenever you guys want. But a clip was going around in the last few days of, Of Travis Green, and this was, I think, right after all that bul had gone down. And there was just a lot of outside noise, some of which probably created by us talking about Brady, Brady getting dealt to the United States somewhere. But he's just, he was just basically like, boys, enjoy this wind. Ignore the white noise. Keep all the. Outside this locker room. Continue to believe what we're doing here. And it was just a. A pretty good clip. Seeing that, you could tell that the guys are bought into what he's selling. And, and, and you know, he's had the. I. I actually played against him in the Calder Cup Final when he was with Utica before he ended up getting called up to Vancouver. So he's had a very interesting path as a head coach, whether it was in the minors or the NHL. And I really feel that he's found his groove and he's hitting all the right buttons with, with that Ottawa Senators team. So I'm happy for him. And he seems like an absolute fucking beauty too.

Yeah, he does. And Brady actually, on the podcast with Matthew was talking about his fight with Anders Lee that I think I brought up last episode. And he, he asked, he told Cousins, like, hey, I'm lining up on the right side. Cousin said he knew right away what that meant. And he said to Anders Lee, like, hey, I kind of need this. You want to get the boys going? He's like, let's get the boys going. He said, you want to square off? You want to get right into it. He's like, let's just write into it. And like, the way he tells the story, it's just quick. But I think that stuff, like, I guess having played or even if you didn't play, like, I love that so much because Brady says after, like, it's about. I think I have so much respect for him, he has respect for me. And we just wanted to set the tone that it was an enormous, basically playoff type game and it's it's so cool that that's still a part of hockey and I think always will be. Because it's like, hey, I kind of need this one. You want to go? Let's do it. And two captains just squaring off.

Oh, yeah, and it's one way, too. Like, he got called out by his coach a little bit in the media. It's one way you can. You can control what you can bring, right? Like, I remember getting called out one time by Jim Playfair when we were in Edmonton and I went and I fought. Who is that big dude on your team? Leonard?

No.

Was it him? It was some big, like, Finnish guy. He was strong as my neck was. I couldn't move my neck for like three weeks.

You sign a PTO or an ato, whatever it is, and he goes to Providence. He'll then have to sign if they decide to call him up. And McAvoy did this. And I think there was injuries that ended up having him go up to Boston and play in the playoffs. I don't know what your guys opinions on it is. It seems like based on his interview, I respect the hell out of him. Nothing's given to me. I. I gotta go earn everything. I want to prove that, that I'm ready for the NHL. I gotta play well down here. And we interviewed him last summer, I believe, or maybe it was before his draft and. Great kid, you could tell like somebody who. Those quotes don't really surprise me, you know, based on the fact that he knows what it takes, that he doesn't want to be handed anything. But I still was surprised. It feels like the Bruins kind of won that one to get him to turn pro time and not have to burn a year if they don't want to. I actually don't get it. I mean, I get it as a player. Like for him, I get it, wanting to go and turn pro, whatever, but I think his agent got fleeced. And I don't know who his agent is. But like that's one of those things where you have a guy, what was he, seventh overall, like drafted by the team where he's playing in that city right now in college. Like there has to be, there has to be something that was guaranteed to him that. Because that, that seemed like a move that would happen 20 years ago. Like nowadays you see guys drafted in the fourth round, fifth round, come out and play games. I get it. They're in a, in a battle for the playoffs, want to get in and take care of what's going on. But I don't know, at the end of the day, like, the players are. Have the, have the upper hand right now, and I don't think he got the upper hand by not getting some games this year.

And I just, I'm assuming that they're saying, hey, the option of you coming in and playing games in the NHL, given our situation this year is not on the table. His college season is over. If you want to play high competitive hockey with Providence and prove that you can do it against men and stronger competition, that is not only going to set you up from an organizational perspective where I feel like, like Boston fans are probably like, loving this kid right now based on those quotes. Right? So he's already in their good graces and, and they're, they're licking their chops to see what he can do with Providence. And who knows, man? A guy or two goes down and maybe he's the guy who eventually ends up getting called up. Right now, at this point in time, he assigned an ato, and that's just for the Providence Bruins. How does that affect moving forward if, let's say next year they're like, hey, you know, more than likely you're not going to start in the NHL. Could he go back to college?

This is a little old school way of thinking of I'm going to go down there and this, their team's completely loaded and hopefully we go on a run and I light it up and I prove to them that I'm in the lineup and maybe in pencil, but I'm in that lineup next year. When they're looking at it over the summer up in Boston, I think the

variable of them being able to compete for a Calder cup, like I talk about how Adrian Kempe came over probably with like what, five, ten games regular season maybe remaining. Don't even know if he ended up hopping in the lineup for any regular season games with Manchester and then ended up having, I think, you know, 10 goals in playoffs and really helping us win a Calder Cup. So just gaining that experience playing with other really good players probably factored in where, if this is a, a bottom five team, is he going to Providence to play the end of the regular season? Probably not. That's not going to fit his interest. So playing high level hockey in the AHL is going to be very beneficial in gaining experience in a short amount of time.

Oh, don't, don't get me wrong, I tip my cap to the way that he's handling it and he wants to go and play and maybe it has something to do with kids in college now are getting paid more. He doesn't have to chase the NHL money. You left BU at that time, were you looking to get right into the lineup and then kind of told, no, it's going to be down to the minors, and you got to sign the ATO the same way he did, like, take us through your experience leaving school the way Hagens did after sophomore year. So this all came back up again, obviously, because it was like, a similar

and back, like, what I was thinking, because I was trying to remember what was the same, what was different. And I think now the thing that's so different just to kind of set the stage is like, the leverage that I feel like some of these guys have or, like, what they kind of. Maybe they think they have. But, like, I mean, some of these, like, I guess the Cutter Gaultier situation is one thing, right? Like, maybe where you didn't get what you wanted, so then, you know, you went somewhere else. And I don't know enough about that to. To say who was right or wrong or anything, but you see a lot more guys leaving and just getting games, like, right away now. So that becomes the new comparable where, like, you're like, okay, well, A, B, and C just signed and left. And I feel like that's different from when I signed because the one that they pointed to right away was Zach Warrenski. Z went to Michigan and left a year before. So he did two years in school. Left ATO with like Lake Erie, I think, and playoffs. AHL the whole time wins the Calder cup. And then next year contributor came right in and was great. So it was like, hey, we've seen this model. Like this worked great for him. Like this is what we want to do. They got a good team in Prav. You go down there, start out there, like get your touches.

And I think it was really similar

I was just going to say from since Olympic break, you've been on fire. You've been playing amazing. But just offensively I've known something, noticed something different from you. It seems like, like you've obviously been known as an unreal two way player, but this year your offense to me has been the best it's been in your career. Like what do you contribute to that, especially since the Olympics?

[Charlie McAvoy]

Yeah, I mean, just trying to be a part of it. You know, I think like our system too, like we play pretty fast, so I think transition wise, like it helps to be kind of like that fourth man and get involved. Like we're trying to turn you over and we're trying to get going quick like in the league so fast, like we got some fast guys on our team. So I think that helps us trying to beat guys up the ice. And then I think the other thing is just, you know, our power play has been, been great all year. We brought spotter in and, and he just, you know, he's done it at every stop he's out. Just been an unreal power play coach and just a great coach in general. So you know, he came in right away and just some of his, like his verbiage, some of the stuff that we were doing on the ice and you know, working on like, you know, you could credit a lot of the success we had because we turned over pretty good. I want to say we went from like bottom five or ten last year in a year that wasn't very good. And then, you know, this year we've been in the top 10 all year, top five at times. So it's. I think that, you know, obviously you're gonna rack up some, some cookies on the power play, but I think both ways we're playing, you know, both, both ways, five on five and, and five on four. It's just been good. Been. Been fun to contribute.

Charlie. Mine's pretty easy. It's like, how are you feeling? What, like, what a wild year for you with dealing with adversity. I mean, you probably got the tooth fairy living in your house at this point, billeting, but, like, just like, from losing all that weight after breaking your jaw, how nasty that shot was. And then even more recently, you took another one where you lost some bottom teeth. So how have you just been dealing with, like, the injuries and, and then putting together, I mean, gold medal and then now this run you've been on since the Olympics?

[Charlie McAvoy]

Man, I can't believe that. It's all been like one year. Like, everything that's happened, like, it's insane, you know, and you guys know it. Every year you get to this point of the year, you're like, oh, my God. Like, September training camp felt like it was two years ago. Like, it always flies by. But yeah, like, this year was tough, man. That, that one in November. Like, I started out the year great. We were surprising some people, and it was like, you know, we were trying to get some traction going, and then that happened and that just was, like, so deflating. It sucked. Like, at the time, like, I always show, like, some people saw it and knew it, but, like, our little guy was in the hospital at the time. He'd been there for, like, three weeks. And, like, I literally missed the game in Toronto, guys came home, I played, and this was a one off game Saturday night at Bell Center. I was like, talk to the wife. I'm like, hey, I'm gonna go. He's okay. Like, I'm just gonna go and I'll be there and back, like, right, right in and out and broke the jaw. And like, now I'm in the hospital. She was in the hospital. Like, yeah, it was, it was crazy. And that one, that one took a lot, like, you know, out of both of us. Like, and then I had my family come up to help. You know, her family came in, like, Sully took a step away to, like, to come help. So we had so much, you know, support and during that time, which was huge. And then, you know, that allowed us, you know, me personally, to just get. Get sort of right back into it. And I think I missed, like, three weeks. And then, you know, we were off and running again.

Did losing some weight, like, make, like, help you with, like, being a little faster? I mean, that might be a dumb question, but did you feel. Did you feel lighter?

[Charlie McAvoy]

I Thought it would, right? Like, I thought I'd be like, freaking lane Hudson dropping 30 pounds, and now I'm dancing all over the place. But no, honestly, I felt terrible. My energy was so bad because I didn't have, like, you lose all that weight and you're not able to, like, fuel yourself. So I was just dying. I'd get out there for practice. I was skating by myself when I was first coming back, and, like, five minutes in, I'd be, like, calling over the dock. I was. I was dead, so. And it was tough because, like, food blended to me was just not gonna happen. It was dog.

So I couldn't do it either.

So when I started getting back into solids, those were. I was on more fish than anything. But, man, once I got back on the steak, it was good. Good feel.

Leafs are struggling and I think you would admit probably one of the worst games of the season for your team. Like you know, Tuesday against that, that Leafs team that like you know they're, they are out of it. Like they just want to play spoiler. We can't. These are the games you have to win. And we still laid an eggman. We just couldn't, we couldn't manufacture it. Like it was so bad. We just didn't play like to our identity in any way. So it was just tough. And then we woke up and, and we were like, we. So we get right on the plane after go to Buffalo Sturmy yesterday morning was like, I'm not even gonna show you guys anything from it. Not one clip from it. Like it was that bad and like been around before. Like, you know, when it's that bad, honestly, you don't even need to see it. We knew. So it was just like completely flipped it. Like he, he said some really good things in the morning. Spotter said some good things. Like we had a chance amongst the guys to, to kind of talk in front of the group like, you know, just how big this was and, and coming down the stretch like every game now there are no more of those. We play against all the best teams in the league the rest of the way. It's like we got mini on Saturday, then Columbus, then Dallas.

We like to make things hard on ourselves sometimes, but like, you see that one through and get two points, it was just huge. We were, we were, we were pumped after.

Yeah. It kind of leads me into the next question we have. We were talking about like coach of the year candidates and like, this is one of those years where it feels like you nominate like eight to 10 guys because of jobs they'd done and they could just. You talk about Stir Mike doing that, like, seems like he's just hitting all the right buttons from the message into training camp. A guy who had a long career that was well respected and just like he's himself. There's no bullshit, there's no hamming it up. He's just himself. And like, what has he done to this group? And was it. What has he instilled in order to like kind of get you guys firing the way you have and essentially overachieving.

[Charlie McAvoy]

Yeah, I mean, he kind of laid his foundation right, right at training camp, like he said. I think the messaging has been great. I think, you know, just the, the team for sure from last year, this year is just. Is a closer knit team. Like there's some more personality in the group. So obviously that, that has helped us. You Know, on the ice. But with Sturmy, he's just been great. Like, his strategy that he brought in of like, like I said, wanting to play fast, play behind teams. Like, you know, he calls it the long game. Like, you know, we're, we're, we're very quick to just transition. We want to get pucks out. Like, it's not like Carolina where we want to flip pucks, but like, we want to get, we want to make it hard and kind of back you off, you know. And you see a lot of teams that are playing like that now, like, it's not fun to play against, you know, Buffalo in their away last night. Like, they just go. They go. Those are the games that are tough. So we wanted to do it. Sturmium implemented that. And then in the neutral zone, we kind of, you know, have our little clog that we call it that likes to piss teams off. But he just had things that he believed in that he brought in and he had conviction in. And like, I think early on when you never played it and like, we weren't having the best results, it's kind of hard. And then we kind of flipped it. We understood what he wanted to do. His D zone structure, all that. And then he could put it in front of you on tape. So like, then the video sessions are like, look, guys, I told you, just do this. It works. So then you can see it and then we all believe it. Then we all just bought in. And like, I think that has a lot to do with the success we've had this year. Like, you know, obviously he's, he's great, great leader men and then his strategy. So he's just been awesome for us.

One quick follow up. You mentioned the personalities and being a closer knit group and I know Z was there last year, but he is just on all the time chirping. Like, even last night, you guys, against Buffalo, it was boxing gloves Arvidson's goal where pasta kind of got poke, check and Arbitson just poked it in and he's coming into the pile chirping guys about having boxing gloves on. So he's just never not chirping, including the other team. So what's it like playing with Big Z? And is he probably one of the bigger personalities in the league that you've seen?

[Yan Stastny]

Oh, man.

He's like, oh, he is. He's one of a kind. He really is. Like, he's fucking. I was ready to kill him last night. I came in after the game and I was asking for like an ice Bag because I had like a bursa when I fell. And as soon as I come in, I'm like, Dacia kind of got this. He goes wah. Like he hits me with one of those. I was like, you fucking. Oh my God. I was so mad at him. But he is, he's always on like that. I think in a way like last year, I had to get used to him. Like, I didn't really know, you know, he's coming from a different team. I don't know, come and he came in hot. Everything. He had an opinion on everything. And something to say about this, Something to say to you, like chirps, all that. And I think I, you know, not knowing like who he was, I started to understand him more obviously. I spent so much time last year hurt that I wasn't even really around the group. So a little bit this summer and then into this year, like, man, I love Z. Like, he's awesome. Once you get his personality, you start to understand him. Like, he's awesome. He's been so great for our room because he's a leader, you know, and we kind of asked him to take on a little bit more of that role and he, and he did it in a, in a big way. And then like he's light, he likes to chirp guys and stuff like that. So I mean, you know those guys in the room, like they're great to have keep things light, keep things in perspective. So yeah, he's been a huge, a huge asset for us.

I doubt heard he's pretty ruthless like during TD timeouts the way that he's chirps the other team where like no wonder the PA won't allow mics on the players.

Oh yeah, I'll give you one how ruthless this guy is. So I don't know where he, he came from a different. He had a couple spots, a couple stops along the way before he got to Boston. But like we do our Secret Santa, so our secret Santa is like, you know, we like to have fun. Like we, we do the gag gifts and goof and you know you're gonna find somebody staying and give it to them a little bit. But we have a 50 minimum. So we're gonna talk shit about you and then we're gonna give you a nice bottle of Camus. So everybody leaves happy. Z just completely breezed the fifty dollar minimum. This was last year too. So he had me and he gives me a sheet of paper so it just said 73 on it. And I, and I open like maybe it's a Gift card or something. Like, I opened this thing up. It was like a chat GPT, like, written thing that he just typed in his things and it wrote it all out formally. Basically just saying, like, you have the worst hair I've ever seen. Like, here's a free voucher to go over to Turkey, get your hair fixed up. Like, this summer. Yeah. And all this stuff.

It was funny.

The boys were laughing. I was laughing like it was good. And then it just was getting like, it was just more personal. More personal. At the end, I'm like, okay, we're okay. It's pretty insane that, like, the way Pasta scores is one thing, and everyone talks about it like a true superstar. But, Buddy, he gets 60 assists every year now too. Like, and you see some of the passes he makes. Like, you see it in practice as well. But his vision in passing is so underrated compared to, like, how people think of him as just a goal scorer.

Oh, he's. He's unbelievable at it. Like, he has that big, like, toe on his stick and he like, it almost looks like he holds the puck like out on it with his arm, like up high. He can do anything from there. Like he can go cross body, he can open it up and go further. Like I see it at practice all the time, but like, you really don't know what he's gonna do. He's so good at positioning it like where he can, he can do three things like off of just holding it there on the outside of his blade. But I want to say, I mean, I've always known it, but now everybody does because he, you know, he had like, I think 50 and a lot of years where he was scoring, you know, a lot of goals and he was playing online with, with two guys that were just feeding them all the time. And then obviously when you know you lose a Marshawn and a Bergeron. Some of the guys that we've had, when we had those really deep teams like now, we were asking him to do everything you're asking them to carry, you know, the whole offense really was what we were asking him to do. And I think you saw it last year like that he just had that, that club in his bag like, and he did it so much. He fed geeks like crazy. And then, you know, he ends up being a 30 goal scorer. Some of the plays he was making, like it was just on display I think for everybody to get the appreciation. Like this guy can do it all, man. Not only can he score 50, but he's a, he's a playmaker too. Sees the ice at a different level.

A lot of times I hear from Bruins fans, and one complaint they have is they have to name a captain. They have to name a cap. Yeah, a lot of people give it to McAvoy, give it to Pasta. But as a player on the Bruins, can you kind of explain how it's not always something necessary? I know it's different, but, like, explain the leadership in your room without actually having somebody with the C on, because it still works.

[Charlie McAvoy]

Like, we knew going into this year that we weren't going to have a captain, and, like, that was totally fine. You know, I think. And when people ask me this, I always go back to, like, the captains we've had before. So, like, when we had Z, Z had his little subgroup, right? So it was Z, Marshy, Bergie, you had David Backus in there. You know, then it became, like, Bergey. Then it was Bergie, Marshy had Nick Foligno in there. Like, we've just been spoiled with so many, like, NHL captains that have come through here, you know, and just, like, leaders. So we had so many guys that stepped up, but, like, they always talked about it, and that was where I learned it, because when Bergie was captain and then Marshy, like, I was, you know, invited into those rooms, like, okay, like, this is how we do things. And you get to see how they do it by committee. Like, they all leaned on each other for everything. Everything. Like, you know, when it was time to stand up and Birgi or someone had to, you know, do something, like, they can do it because they're the guy. But, man, everything they. They normally were, like, doing it as a unit. They're asking for opinions on stuff, like, you know, doing it as a group. So we knew coming in and see her, that was kind of what I said was, like, we would do it as a group anyway, whether Pasta had a C or I had a C or Hampus or anybody. Like, we would all collaborate on it all lean on each other, like, because that's the way I've seen it work and have. And have a lot of success. So we made a leadership group going into this year. You know, three guys with letters, but it's five guys total. And then even from there, we've added some guys that have been here, like, longer term, and you just get to, you know, you ask more of guys. I think that's the biggest thing. Like, because you don't want to do it by yourself, you can't do it by yourself. You give guys a little bit of, like, incentive. Like, Zidorov is a good example. I was like, z, you're such a big voice. We need you. Use it for good. Like, I'm going to challenge you to be. To be a leader on this team. And, like, he doesn't even wear a letter, but we know in the room, like, he can speak up. He does speak up. Like, he can. You know, we do it as a group, so there's so many different guys, but I think that's how you can make it work without a C. Like, we just ask more of. Of everybody, really.

Well, I think that answer right there proves to why you should be the captain. But I got to bring up one story, and it's one of my favorite stories. Definitely my favorite story from the summertime. And it's your performance at the airport the day after Matthew Tkachuk's wedding. Can you tell this story?

I doubt it. But like these, they got two more games at home, then they have six on the road. Oh, so like these, these next two games for me, for them are huge. You got, you got to get four points here for them because they got a six, six game road trip long going out west. I think they play Tampa, then they go like LA San Jose back to Anaheim. It's a weird schedule but that's a tough road trip to have at the end of the year when you need points as much as they do. But they're also going to be playing LA a couple times which is, you know, a team that they're battling with. So those are huge games. But I would love nothing more for this team to get in. Like they stuck with their guys. I love Brunette as a coach, Derek McKenzie as a coach there too. But just the veteran guys, Stamcos Forsberg that you mentioned has been unreal. Yosi, it's just one of those teams that you want to see get in, especially after last year kind of derailing a little bit. But you know they, at the end of the day they stuck with most of their guys and I hope they can get in bad.

I would love to get Brunette on or, or anyone from their team. Even maybe Hal Gill or Mason just to, to talk about how this has come about. I watched BU play UMass a couple years ago and this kid Ryan Ufco, he was nasty for UMass. D man. So last year was his first full year spent. He played one game in the NHL but had 30 points in 72 games. This year with Milwaukee, 44 points at 50 games. He's up now. He's got five points in 10 games. He's great. I don't know if you saw his first NHL goal. It was disgusting. One of the best first NHL goals I can remember. Smaller like puck moving defenseman. But I think he's probably made a huge difference getting a guy in there who could skate move the puck. Just those players now, they're just so valuable. You see these undersized D men that are starting to make a big difference around the league and he's no different. So him coming up makes a difference. But that's a cool storyline in Edmonton. Big win in Utah and Connor McDavid gets his 400th and then 401st NHL goal. He's got 1200 points. Third fastest player to ever do it. He just keeps stacking up these records. It's crazy to see. I think there was a chance that if he had a goal and an assist it would have given him 400 and 800 in the same game for 1200 points which is crazy.

But the guy. The guy is enormous. He's got game. This is a guy Blackhawks fans are counting on to be a future stud. I think they're hoping for a little Leo Carlson and Anton Frondell. It was actually cool, too. Before the opening face off, Bedard switched with them and said, hey, you take the draw. And then Horvat just snapped it back on the kid. 0 for 1. But exciting times. And then you know, even last year, people all over him. I think this year he kind of like fully blossomed into what people thought he'd be. But I love what I brought Biz, you know, like he's a guy, you know, he, he bounced around a bit. I think he's got, if he does have 20, he's close to 20 goals now.

Swayman's been out of his mind since the Olympics. Copasala has been awesome too. I think he's fourth and high danger saves as well. So I just love what this team's doing and I just love the effort. So I really want to see him get the playoffs with the piggyback on your Conor McDavid point. Needless to say he was the first player in history to get his both 400th goal in 1200th point in the same game. Also the third fastest to 1200 points after who Wayne and Mario. So great stuff there. You mentioned Connor Battad tagging out so Bohova could dust. It's on for dull in that first face off. He did get a helper in his debut, so congrats to him. But at that same game, and this is Courtesy of At 19 consecutively, Matthew Schaefer. He played the 31:58 of ice time that game, which is insane. The I. While he was out there, The Isles generated 59 shot attempts while allowing just 21 against. The Isles had 30 shots on goal, allowed just 12 while he was out there. Outscored the Hawks 20 in that spin and the 2802 when Schaefer was not in the ice, The Islanders recorded 17 shots of goal versus 12 against and outs good one to four. So, like, just that. And there's some really real tender moments in it, like really like emotional moments, particularly at the end where he goes out into the crowd and, and you know, the, the thing. Take a banana for ride doesn't mean a banana from the carnival biz. When you're out with like 78 dates but it's, it's. He gets into the story of why, why, why that matters. And it's really like. Like I said, it's a 10 day. If you're looking for something to watch, Jeffrey Russ take a banana for ride. Good stuff there.

He got diagnosed with late life. So. And he addresses that off the hop. But definitely, like I said, it's surprisingly emotional and definitely give that a recommendation. Classic recommendation for old school movie. This is one you guys probably never heard of. 1981 called Nighthawks. Sylvester Stallone made this between Rocky 2 and Rocky 3. Billy Dee Williams was just coming off the Empire Strikes Back. It's about a terrorist loose in New York City and it has one of the most insane stunt stunts ever done. It's like you guys have heard, I don't know if you're familiar, Roosevelt island on New York City. It's. It's the East River. It's, it's, you know, an island that people live on. But there's an old school trim, like, you know, almost like a ski gondola. It's still operational to this day. And they did a stunt on this with like Sylvester Stallone and the late Rutger Howa, who is awesome actor. It's a kind of a legendary stunt. But anyways, it's a, A Dale Biter of a thriller. It's not very popular, but if you're looking for like a great action from the 80s. Nighthawks, 1981. Give it a whirl. Good stuff.

And then things kind of went way, you know, kind of quiet for that way. And I think it's coming back the other way because people.

So they built the entire spaceship. Right. It's actually real. It's not cgi.

I. I honestly, Biz, I'm not even sure because I. I watch previews less and less because they give so much of the movie. So, you know, I kind of go through, like, snippets of, like, you know, critics I follow, and guys whose opinion I trust. And then I, you know, like, okay, I think I would have seen.

It's a great space.

The spacecraft he's in has a million buttons. Right. It's like just a insane thing. They, they. He was in that physically, like, they built that whole thing out, apparently, where they didn't want to use too much cgi. Like, obviously, that being the main part where he's like, apparently in that majority of the movie. Right?

Yes, yes. And the More. I think it's an unreal movie. I. I think I just went in thinking, like, this is going to be one of the best movies.

No. Spoiling alert. He's a middle school science teacher and the sun is dying. And over the course of the next 30 years, the planet's gonna become like. I'm not giving anything away, Ra.

And this movie theater in Chestnut Hill, it's got. You order dinner, they bring beers and the dinner to your seat. Got the recliners. It's incredible theater. Super Lux or something. It's called.

They've scored, I think, 11 goals in their first two games so far this season. And finally, boys, we want to send our deepest condolences to the Greeley family on the loss of their patriarch, Steve. I never met coaches. He's well known down the South Shore, but I've been fortunate to become friendly with his son Steve over the years. And with Yandel, you guys, he's been instrumental in you guys friendship with you guys your whole life, right?

Yeah. Jack and myself and Keith's brother Brian, we played on the same team growing up and, and Mr. Greeley coached. And then, you know, he, He. He has five kids. Right. So he's busy guy. And it was tough, man. It was a battle, a long battle with. He started Parkinson's and dementia. And I got to see him in August when they gave him a couple weeks at that point. And he made it. You know, he made it to March, and it was just, you know, nice to see no more suffering. Right. Like, it was really hard, I think, for the family. But, you know, I, I go a long way back. Steve and I became close, played at BU together, and I, I just feel so bad for them. Right. Like, you've seen the post that all his kids have been doing, and it's. It's really tough for them to go through that. So, you know, losing somebody that. That I knew very well. And, you know, that I'm good friends with. With his son. It's just hard to see people hurting like that. And. But, like, like I said to Jack and Steve, like, I hope you guys are at peace knowing he's not suffering anymore. And. And I know that, you know, it's a tough time for them. So the wake's Monday and the funeral's Tuesday, and I'm glad. I'm glad you shouted him out. I was gonna wait till the end, but. Good move right there.

Okay. Yeah, I talked to Brian earlier, Keith, and, yeah, he said. He said he was instrumental and, like, if he hadn't brought, like, Brian to that, the team, particular team at that time, you guys might never have a friendship you had. So just want to give him a shout out there.

So I should have mentioned when we were talking NCAA quick there, Emily Kaplan did an awesome video on Michael Hage at Michigan. I. I knew his father had passed away a few years back, but I didn't know the story. And, you know, for anyone who doesn't watch it, I hope you do. His dad was an enormous Montreal Canadiens fan, and his brother, I believe that Michigan with him, and they were at the pool, like, having a pool party with friends over, and his dad dove in the pool and nobody noticed that. He must have hit his head or something. And all of a sudden, you know, they see him down there, and Michael actually dove in, dragged him out, tried giving him cpr. His dad passed away. I didn't know that story, but he's an incredible player. And then they fast forward years later, it's just him and his mom and his brother at the draft, and Montreal's up, and Montreal takes him. And he. He left the hospital, I think, in a Canadian's, like, onesie. And, you know, his mom's hugging him like, this. Is your dad here with you? It's very emotional. Awesome piece by Emily Kaplan that you could see anywhere online. But a hell of a player, too, the kid. I think he could hop into Montreal's lineup if Michigan doesn't get to the frozen Four, like, he's going to be a stud. I didn't know the tragedy that his family had gone through. So check that story out if you want to.
