On this episode of Staying Alive, hosts Jon Gabrus and Adam Pally sit down with their good friend Zach Cherry (Severance, Fallout), to talk about how he doesn’t do anything special to stay alive, nothing at all. Except for everything. They’ll talk about working with Ben Stiller, never rushing anywhere, smart scales, and do a deep dive on sweating. Pally also has some questions about why eggs aren’t meat, and Gabrus talks about how you spoil yourself differently in your 40s. John Gabris
Smart.
Adam Pally
Bless me. Hey, everybody, Sean Hayes here. Listen, this podcast is not intended as a substitute for a physician's medical advice. My pod sons, John and Adam, are not doctors, to say the least. Listen for entertainment, not advice. Good.
John Gabris
Okay, good.
Adam Pally
Enjoy the show, everybody. I will mention that we're on a fat guy text. Oh, yeah.
John Gabris
100%.
Adam Pally
Some of the fattest, most interesting people in Hollywood texting.
John Gabris
I really am. I'm trying to make that a club.
Adam Pally
That people care about.
Zach Cherry
I'm on a non threatening comedic actor text chain. So it's like me, Max Greenfield, Jake Johnson, Paul Rudd, and it's called non threatening. Non threatening.
Adam Pally
There's no other word for that group of comedies.
Zach Cherry
There's no what? Jews? They're not even all Jewish. I feel bad for the ones that aren't.
Adam Pally
Yeah, right. That's a smaller text.
Zach Cherry
Smaller. I'm sure in our text, there's an even smaller group of the ones that always get, like, Jay bars. Like, I'm not even freaking Jewish. Excited about today.
Adam Pally
I'm pumped for today. I mean, I'm back in New York, which is. And the weather is amazing.
Zach Cherry
You're getting.
Adam Pally
You're getting.
Zach Cherry
You've been in New York for some really nice days.
Adam Pally
This is the days I miss in New York. The Octobers and the Septembers and the Aprils.
Zach Cherry
How picturesque was it in the West Village yesterday when we stopped for lunch?
Adam Pally
That was insane with the. We had literal, like. Like white pollen was falling. It looked like Influencer would be standing there. We were on some little side street off, like, Sullivan, and it was just, like, beautiful. It was insane. It was great.
Zach Cherry
Yeah. This is. This is the time.
Adam Pally
And Bernie didn't find it that insane. They were like, this is kind of.
Zach Cherry
Well, they're corporate. We're the talent. We're like.
Adam Pally
We're the artists. Bernie's an actual artist.
Zach Cherry
Bernie's, like, painting, like, what?
Adam Pally
These guys are artists. They've said fudgeing cum jokes for, like, an hour and a half a day for 20 days.
Zach Cherry
Speaking of cum jokes, I had a snack in a bar recently.
Adam Pally
Okay, I'm waiting for this connection.
Zach Cherry
Pickled pineapple.
John Gabris
Whoa.
Adam Pally
What did your jizz taste like after? You know, I do before and after Dr. Pepper.
Zach Cherry
Also.
Adam Pally
Dr. Pepper. You should come on the pod.
Zach Cherry
Well, now I know your recipe.
Adam Pally
You know what comes in flavors. Doctor Perry. Doctor Perry.
Zach Cherry
Doctor Perry.
Adam Pally
Dr. Pepper comes in wild cherry. Dr. Pepper.
Zach Cherry
Wild cherry Dr. Pepper. Well, I guess all Dr. Perry. I guess all Dr. Pepper is technically cherry flavored.
Adam Pally
Yeah. And this episode we have coming up is Very cherry flavored.
Zach Cherry
Yeah, completely.
Adam Pally
We got the man, the legend himself from. I know him from ucb and the world knows him from Severance, but the security guards here at SiriusXM know him from the TV show you.
Zach Cherry
Yeah. Which was tough because when he came in and and told us that, we were like, you're on that show.
Adam Pally
Yeah. And I was. I felt bad. I didn't know that.
Zach Cherry
Yeah, I didn't know that either. I honestly didn't even know there was a show called you. And I had to, like, put it together that.
Adam Pally
That I was like, it's the Penn Badgley.
Zach Cherry
Like, I know that now. But as it was happening, it was like a weird who's on first moment.
Adam Pally
Yeah, okay.
Zach Cherry
Because I was like, he knew me from you. Yeah. And that's what he said. He goes, he knew me from you. And I was like, from me.
Adam Pally
And he goes.
Zach Cherry
First he goes, no, from you. And I was like, yeah, from. From Adam. And he's like, no, from you. The show. And I was like, my show. Like, I couldn't get it. And then I realized he was talking about a more successful television show.
Adam Pally
Nothing's more successful than this television.
Zach Cherry
Let's get him in here. Can we do it? Can you come on now.
Adam Pally
And Dr. Perry, please send in Zach Cherry. Doctor, doctor, give me the news. We got Zach Cherry on the podcast today.
Zach Cherry
Oh, good. Good end. Zacky, it's good to see you, man.
Adam Pally
Yeah, we're pumped to have you. Big actual celebrity in the house.
Zach Cherry
Oh, yeah, it's nice to have some a name up in here, not just me and Gabrius sharing the star power. You are having a good year, buddy.
John Gabris
Yeah, I'm having fun.
Zach Cherry
Yeah, it's fucking awesome.
John Gabris
Yeah.
Zach Cherry
I mean, severance has shot, like, everywhere on the east, right? Because everybody has a TikTok trend now that's like, I'm at the offices, they're in New Jersey, and then someone's like, I'm at the diner in Kingston, New York.
John Gabris
Like, that's pretty much the extent, though. Basically, from New Jersey to Kingston is kind of the.
Zach Cherry
So you're just going up the New York Thruway?
John Gabris
Yeah, basically most of it. A little bit was in Newfoundland this year, but I didn't go spoiler.
Zach Cherry
Are you not caught up? Are you not caught up?
Adam Pally
No, I. I'm waiting. Oh, I'm waiting for season three to watch season two.
John Gabris
Are you fucking serious?
Zach Cherry
You have. You're not caught?
Adam Pally
No, I'm not.
Zach Cherry
Shit. What am I gonna. Now we have to go out to separate lunches?
Adam Pally
Well, we can, like.
Zach Cherry
I. I have so much stuff I want to talk to you about.
Adam Pally
I have all 10 episodes downloaded on my iPad to watch. Dude, the one week I know. Well, I didn't want to, like, cram and then be here, like, fawning over them and asking for autographs.
Zach Cherry
And we could talk about the show without ask for. We're different things. I wanted to know about the show, but I. I mostly would.
John Gabris
I can still say where we shot things. That's not going to affect.
Adam Pally
Pissing me off. Honestly, a lot of. Michael, I didn't know that a lot of my questions.
Zach Cherry
A lot of my questions were, like, production related because as an actor, like, part of. Part of. What is so fun about seeing your friends, like, people that, like, you know, we. I know you from improvising in a basement together. And then, you know, when you see your friends working, you're also an actor. So you're like, oh, man, it was cold. You know, like, I can like that stuff. And so I have all these questions I wanted to ask you about, like, God, that must have been annoying. It was, you know, it was cold. Yeah. Was it really cold? Whatever the situation is, it wasn't really cold.
John Gabris
It was.
Zach Cherry
It was really cool because it looked like watching that, I was like, these guys must have been. Because I can imagine myself like, take when someone's like, we need to do it again. You're like, okay. You're like, it was windy.
John Gabris
It was. It was really windy.
Zach Cherry
Sound is all pissed off.
Adam Pally
Oh, my God.
John Gabris
Multiple days we had to not shoot because of wind.
Zach Cherry
Those are hell. Those are great days, though. That's like a snow day when you get to work, when they're like, wind day. You guys just go and get wasted.
Adam Pally
You just get in that tornado shelter.
Zach Cherry
That's what I would do on a snow day.
John Gabris
I think I just stayed in my cabin to get.
Zach Cherry
Your cabin?
John Gabris
Yeah.
Adam Pally
Did you just jerk off four times to wheel a fortune? That's what I did on snow days.
John Gabris
Wheel of Fortune.
Zach Cherry
Those women are beautiful. Those women was one.
Adam Pally
Vanna. Oh, I'm thinking of Price is Right. The ladies showing off the jet skis would get me going.
Zach Cherry
Oh, yeah?
Adam Pally

Adam Pally
Zach. We ask all our guests this to kick off our conversations. Yes, I know in minute 28, but what are you doing to stay alive?
John Gabris
Yeah, you know, not. It's not a. I guess it's not the highest priority of mine. You know, I wasn't, I wasn't vetted before coming on here to even. You never even asked if I'm really going for that.
Adam Pally
We will have some guests. Listen, viewers out here that want to.
Zach Cherry
Die if you're going, and I'm just as a friend, if you're going for the opposite.
John Gabris
No, I can do that for you. I'm not going for the opposite flight of stairs.
Zach Cherry
I think it looks like an accident. I actually know someone that would take the guilt off of me.
Adam Pally
Get your life insurance, pop in and we'll.
John Gabris
I will, I will reach out. Yeah, please. No, I'm sort of in neutral. You know, I'm. It's like I am alive. So I'd like it to be good. That's sort of the approach. Interesting.
Zach Cherry
You didn't say I'd like to stay.
John Gabris
Well, I mean, it's like sort of out of my control. What am I?
Zach Cherry
You treat. You treat life the way I treat. Like Hollywood. Yeah, it's out of my control.
John Gabris
I'm here. Keep it good.
Zach Cherry
Yeah.
Adam Pally
Life is just one ten dollar set for life. Scratch off.
Zach Cherry
Yeah. Truly. Yeah.
John Gabris
And hey, we're scratching. It might be a. It might be a win.
Adam Pally
Oh, a coin.
John Gabris
Oh, fun.
Adam Pally
Five dollars off a ten dollar card. That's my move.
Zach Cherry
What?
Adam Pally
Lose money still.
Zach Cherry
Do you want a tissue?
John Gabris
Yeah.
Zach Cherry
And.
John Gabris
I'm sweating in here.
Zach Cherry
Yeah, it's hot.
Adam Pally
They usually keep the AC cranking.
Zach Cherry
Honestly, I'm wearing a jacket because it's part of the look and I don't want to take it off because. And when I was getting dressed this morning.
John Gabris
Huh.
Zach Cherry
I always like, sometimes I'll throw on a white button down shirt because it's. Because it's so easy. It's like, it's just like Manzuka style. Like, you know, Steve Jobs. Ish. You like grab one white button down shirt, you're fine. But I always look like a Hasidic Jew in a white button down shirt. It doesn't matter what I'm wearing on the bottom. I look like you went to go.
Adam Pally
Buy a camera battery at B and H and they were like, you're late.
Zach Cherry
No, I was like, someone was like, I was like, what? Like I always look like a Hasidic, like a young, like the cool rabbi that's like, you know, I have an earring. Yeah, I have an earring. It's like, yeah. It's like we accept everything, but let Me tell you why I'd like to talk to you. You know, like.
Adam Pally
Yeah, I can't wa. Wear white dress shirts because they immediately become, like, see through here, here, here. All my trigger points become, like, crazy. My lower back, it's, like, stuck.
John Gabris
That's why I wear, like, heathered stuff because, you know.
Zach Cherry
Have you ever thought about getting those shots for. To, like, stop your sweat that, like, killed Bruce Lee?
Adam Pally
Yes. I'm so glad you said that.
Zach Cherry
That.
Adam Pally
I'm so familiar.
John Gabris
He kind of stopped sweating.
Zach Cherry
He alleged he died because Brandon died from shots, too.
John Gabris
You know, genetics are so interesting the way things are.
Adam Pally
Exactly.
John Gabris
You never know.
Adam Pally
The Bruce Lee memoir, they went into some different ideas as to why, how he could have died because he had gotten his sweat glands removed so he wouldn't have pit stains anymore.
Zach Cherry
But he also had this yellow outfit because it showed so much.
Adam Pally
Well, I think it would be fine on a yellow outfit. Yeah. And he's always sure he didn't want the sweat, but that.
Zach Cherry
But I always feel like sweat makes you look better shirtless.
Adam Pally
Yeah, I guess you're right.
Zach Cherry
Well, I mean, I just would like to have a conversation with a man before he goes and gets.
Adam Pally
It feels crazy. Like, I hate sweating. And it actually is an impediment to, like, work frequently when you're in wardrobe and stuff, or, like, your makeup is running or. And you feel really bad.
Zach Cherry
Is it cold on that set?
John Gabris
Yeah.
Zach Cherry
I always look at that set, and I'm like, it's got to be freezing. Like, letter. Also, I know Adam a little bit, and he. He's an older man. That Schmitz's.
Adam Pally
Yeah.
Zach Cherry
And so you're like, we keep it cool. It's gotta be a little bit, like.
John Gabris
And we're all in suits and. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Adam Pally
Lumens got central air.
Zach Cherry
You have fans in your. In the. In the. You have, like, the little guy.
John Gabris
We do. Yeah, I do. I had a little fan in the desk.
Zach Cherry
Yeah.
John Gabris
They're always worried about me.
Zach Cherry
Yeah. No, no. Sam Richardson. And he will. He will not mind me telling the story. When we did Champagne Ill, it was in Atlanta from June to August, which is, like, I would evaporate.
John Gabris
Yeah. I couldn't.
Zach Cherry
You would walk up.
Adam Pally
I'm so desperate to work, and I would say, like, for real.
Zach Cherry
Yeah. No. And we were both, like. When they greenlit it, they were like.
John Gabris
Your wardrobe budget, because I'm gonna need quadruple.
Zach Cherry
Exactly. And. And we were in all this, like, streetwear for the show. He had just done a movie with Will Ferrell. Who gave all the cast members a gift. And that was like an industrial fan. It looked like a crude hair dryer that was like, with a giant battery pack that you loaded and unloaded like a handgun. And he had it with him all the time. And no matter what it would be like.
John Gabris
Did you have to reload the battery all the time?
Zach Cherry
It would go so quick. You have to call it right here. All right. Why are you blowing it into your mouth? Do you have to do it with your toe?
Adam Pally
Hey, the back of my back of my neck is really sweaty. I'm going to kneel. Can you just put this gun.
Zach Cherry
No, but it was like, so it changed the game for. For when I saw that. Cuz it was such a.
John Gabris
This is good to know. I need to. I need to. I like knowing about the other real sweaters out there.
Zach Cherry
I am awful. I like. Well, because I get. I get sweaty too, emotionally. So like, something like a director could be like, could you actually, like, go left or. You know what I mean? And I will just like, start to sweat because I've been singled out or whatever.
John Gabris
You know, like, couldn't ask why that made you emotional.
Adam Pally
Also. It was really. It was really funny. You asked. Gentlest note, directors, like, go left, you use your right hand to go right.
John Gabris
Yeah.
Zach Cherry
I'm like, no, but all of it was wrong.
John Gabris
But, you know, and that's.
Zach Cherry
And that's how I end up sweating. Now I'm talking Mr. Keggins issues.
Adam Pally
I'm sweating now.
Zach Cherry
Well, you know, you know. Do you know what I mean? Like, it's like the, the, the. The slightest bit of.
Adam Pally
Let's.
John Gabris
Let's light up a few of these puppies.
Adam Pally
We're like Craig Robinson with the preacher towel.
Zach Cherry
The slightest bit of, like, stress and my forehead will start to sweat. And then I'll notice that my forehead's sweating. And then my.
John Gabris
Oh.
Adam Pally
It's also like losing an erection. Like, the more you think about it, the, like, harder it is to get back. Like, you start sweating and you're like, okay, I'm sweating. And then it's like, now you're SW. About sweating. You're in like the meta sweat is sweater.
John Gabris
That's what's happening here now. Now that, now that I know I'm sweating, this will be hard to turn up.
Zach Cherry
Oh, yeah. And now. And we're catching it from you. Zero. It's good to know that it's cool in there. Because it is.
Adam Pally
Because comedy is cold.
Zach Cherry
You need comedy to be cold. Yeah, you need comedy to be cold.
Adam Pally
I Worked on. I was a recurring extra on 30 rock, and we shot at Silver Cub Studios. And if Alec was on the schedule, like, everyone would wear hoodies because Alec insisted that they dropped the temperature, like, 8 degrees, 10 degrees.
Zach Cherry
Well, I'm sure Alec was popping sweat.
Adam Pally
Yeah, well, he was. He's. He's a big boy. He's barking at a lot of people and he's wearing suits. Donaghy's always wearing suits. So, you know, grips on indoor shit. Always wear cargo shorts and, like, a fucking shredded T shirt. But all of a sudden, now they've got, like, fucking three. Everyone knows, like, oh, he's on. Put the, you know, Tina stand there in, like, a winter coat inside.
Zach Cherry
Everyone's got to make a big deal.
Adam Pally
About Grandpa's here is what he always used to say.
John Gabris
Default should be cold, because if I sweat, it affects the. The product.
Zach Cherry
Yeah, I agree.
John Gabris
But if you're shivering, just, you know, you can do it.
Zach Cherry
Use it. You can't use it when you're, like.
John Gabris
Sweating so bad it can ruin the entire show.
Zach Cherry
Yeah.
Adam Pally
You have, like, your Thin Female co star who's, like, blue and kind of like pink.
Zach Cherry
Nervous. You get nervous around Stiller? No, not anymore. But, like.
John Gabris
No, honestly, not. Not really. When I. When I, like, auditioned. Yes. But then after that, pretty. He's very. He's always so, like, locked in that he's intense. If I was nervous on top of his intensity.
Zach Cherry
Yeah.
John Gabris
It would be.
Zach Cherry
He probably also enjoys that you're not nervous because it doesn't Lets him relax, I think probably.
John Gabris
Yes. Yeah, I. I do. I try to be a chill vibe on. On. On the. On set.
Adam Pally
Well, you. We're a long way to get there, but you kind of answered the question. That's one way to stay alive. Just kind of be a little chill, which I think that is legit.
John Gabris
That's serious. That's a real approach of mine.
Zach Cherry
You always struck me as at peace.
Adam Pally
Yeah, your vibes are pretty relaxed. And even the characters you play are always kind of like a little.
John Gabris
It's a little bit of a duck on water situation where underneath, internally, I am roiling. So, again, I can't also do that outwardly or I wouldn't be able to function.
Zach Cherry
Are you roiling when we improvise?
John Gabris
No improv. I'm.
Zach Cherry
Because you're so steady. You're so calm.
John Gabris
That's like my happy place.
Adam Pally
That's funny. When I'm improvising, I'm the opposite.
Zach Cherry
Me too.
Adam Pally
I'm going apeshit. But inside, it's like I'm feeling so smooth. Like, I. My energy on stage is crazy, but in my head I'm like, this is the most comfortable I've been.
Zach Cherry
And I'm the opposite of that. I feel like comfortable on stage and my head is like. I'm like, interesting.
John Gabris
Yeah, yeah. No, I. I am pretty relaxed on stage. In. In the rest of my. This is something I do to stay alive. I don't rush ever. So, like, I'm not trying to catch a light. I'm not trying to like run after a train because I just am sort of like, it doesn't matter. So I will not be someone who ends up in a like, caused by me stupid little accident. That's like one of my.
Adam Pally
Holy shit. That's a really powerful, powerful choice. Also something I might say about you, like in a roast battle, like on a guess, like, my man never rushes.
John Gabris
But I really don't. I really don't.
Adam Pally
That's really. That is good for you.
Zach Cherry
What about what you. You had oysters, huh? Right.
John Gabris
Well, here's another thing. I'm vegetarian, so not even going to be an issue.
Zach Cherry
Okay.
John Gabris
And that's going to stay natural Segue.
Zach Cherry
Okay. So let's change that for like a. A lion mush. A lion m. Mushroom.
John Gabris
Sure. Like kind of old one.
Zach Cherry
And it's old.
John Gabris
Yeah.
Zach Cherry
And it. And you're. You're eating old mushroom and you're at the movies.
John Gabris
Uhhuh.
Zach Cherry
Right. And you're.
Adam Pally
You're seeing a working man in 40x.
Zach Cherry
Unfortunately, you're in the middle and it hits you.
John Gabris
I don't sit in the middle. I sit on the aisle.
Zach Cherry
Okay. So it hits you on the aisle, but you're all the way up close because of the only tickets you can get.
John Gabris
Okay.
Zach Cherry
And you got to the bathroom. You got to get to the bathroom. You don't rush.
John Gabris
Well, again, I wouldn't be in that situation because I'm not sitting down front. I'm just not seeing the movie. I sit on the aisle. But yes, if I have to take a shit, I will waddle, but I.
Adam Pally
A brisk waddle.
Zach Cherry
So you found a way. You found a way, Rush, even if you have to shit, you can. You can. You're going to go at your own pace.
John Gabris
Yeah. And I'm not going to like, I wouldn't. I wouldn't be pushing anyone over to get to the toilet. Like, if I shit my son.
Zach Cherry
You're not a fire.
John Gabris
Yeah.
Adam Pally
In reality though, I not to. This hypothetical situation does not need to be analyzed this much. But when you have to Shit, like, rushing is maybe a little risky. Like, I'm very. Like, when. When I'm about to shit and I got to get somewhere, it's. I'm more like. I'm like, one giant leap for man kind. Yeah.
John Gabris
That's a metaphor for my whole approach.
Zach Cherry
Right.
John Gabris
It's risky to. To rush when. When something is dangerous, you know, sometimes.
Zach Cherry
Do you do a lot of prep?
John Gabris
Do I do a lot of prep?
Zach Cherry
Yeah.
John Gabris
For.
Adam Pally
For the HIV drug.
Zach Cherry
Yeah.
John Gabris
Just to keep things super sick.
Zach Cherry
We'll just keep your T cell count up.
Adam Pally
I want to rush, so I'm on prep.
John Gabris
I'm on every preventative treatment.
Zach Cherry
No, but that's what I mean. Like, do you do a lot of. Like, not just for work. Like, do you. Because people who don't rush to me means that they've. They've planned it or thought about it.
John Gabris
Yeah, I do, but I also don't. I also just don't care about the outcome sometimes. So it's like, not in my work for any casting people. Yeah.
Adam Pally
This is a podcast. Don't judge him on what's happening.
Zach Cherry
First of all, no one's seeing this. No one is.
Adam Pally
Do you know, casting director. It's time to sit down and watch Staying Alive. I love waking up in the morning, taking off my. Whatever nasty underwear I slept and throwing slapping on fresh Voris, and then hitting.
Zach Cherry
The gym hard 100. I mean, who is it, you know, that I only want to look good? Because if you look good, you feel.
Adam Pally
Good, and if you feel good, you look good, you can tackle anything when you're wearing your Voris.
Zach Cherry
I ordered a hoodie.
Adam Pally
Oh, okay. I wasn't even. I. I went full all, like, performance shorts.
Zach Cherry
I like to exercise in a hoodie.
Adam Pally
Yeah, you do.
Zach Cherry
Also, I've. This is dumb, but it reminds me of, like, high school football, like, where it's like, you're getting that extra sweat.
Adam Pally
Yeah.
Zach Cherry
Like having the hoodie tied tight and you're like.
Adam Pally
You know what the gym nuts call wearing that big hoodie over. They call it the pump cover.
Zach Cherry
The pump cover.
Adam Pally
So then when you're lifting weights, you don't get to see until you're ready to reveal the pump to yourself.
Zach Cherry
Oh, hell yeah.
Adam Pally
And then you pop your pump cover off, and you're like, oh, yeah, the buys are flowing.
Zach Cherry
It is really dramatic tracks for me.
Adam Pally
It does feel like, you know, you turn your head around, it's your. And it's a switch or whatever.
Zach Cherry
Yeah, I like that. I can't wait for it to get here. Yeah.
Adam Pally
Oh, I'm. I'm stoked. I I'm in New York now, but I have ordered shorts to my LA apartment so I'm going to arrive to.
Zach Cherry
Some some course best when I'm leaving on a plane from my house. Like when I'm on the Runway, we'll order something to be delivered to my home so that I know when I get back from my trip, there's just a little treat for myself.
John Gabris
Oh hell yeah.
Adam Pally
I cannot wait. And I also when I need to jump start my fitness, like a little gear is inspirational.
Zach Cherry
Of course.
Adam Pally
Yeah, yeah. So when I get home and I have my fresh pair of core shorts waiting for me, that's going to make me want to go for a jog or make me hit the gym.

Zach Cherry
You wear white.
John Gabris
I wear a Fitbit.
Zach Cherry
Ooh, that looks like another thing you're doing to stay alive.
John Gabris
Yeah.
Zach Cherry
Yeah, I think we're discovering Zach.
John Gabris
Well, I was. I was gonna get it I was gonna get into this in that truly. I think my approach to this stuff changed kind of around when Covid happened, which happened to time out, to when I was, like, getting into my mid-30s. Like, you know, things were starting to ache. Things were starting to be like, you know, struggles that I didn't used to have to worry about. And I think. But like, I truly said it was sort of more of a. Like, well, if I'm gonna be alive, I might as well make it, like, a little better than it was gonna be. That really. It's really more of a harm mitigation approach than a life extension approach.
Adam Pally
Okay, I get it. Yeah.
Zach Cherry
Yeah, of course. Yeah. I mean, I think that even in doing harm, like, in mitigating, you are extending because it's like. And stress. We've talked to a bunch of cardiologists who have told us stress is such a big problem. I don't think you have that problem.
John Gabris
I do, and I don't. I stress about things that don't matter, but I don't stress about things that most people stress about.
Adam Pally
Now, this seems like a throw pillow idea.
Zach Cherry
I hate staying at your place, man. You got all those posters everywhere.
John Gabris
My phrases.
Zach Cherry
It's just like, wine o' clock is not a real time.
John Gabris
Yeah.
Adam Pally
I mean, this plane is taking off at wine o' clock. We're boarding at 45, and that's not.
Zach Cherry
The best place to be having wine.
John Gabris
I'm not flying the plane.
Zach Cherry
And I know you're not rushing to get there.
John Gabris
I'm definitely not, but I. That I stress about things like if some. If I can't find something in my apartment, like if it got moved and I don't know where it is, it starts ramping up. I know that experience.
Zach Cherry
Do you have a little ocd?
John Gabris
Yeah, like, I have. I have an. I have, like, an anxiety. Generalized anxiety with OCD flavorings, basically.
Zach Cherry
Wow. Which is really interesting for someone, again, who presents to me as, like, the calmest cookie on the planet.
John Gabris
Duck on the. On the pond, man.
Zach Cherry
Wow.
John Gabris
But it is. It's the big things that other people stress about. I'm always like, who cares? Like, what does it matter? You know? Know. But then little things that don't matter.
Adam Pally
I, like, you do have control over where your AirPods are supposed to be. They were right here on my desk this morning. Now they're not.
John Gabris
Yeah.
Zach Cherry
But if you don't find them and you have to go to work without them one day. All right, what. Whatever you're. You'll find them when you get home or, you know, fresh eyes, someone else will find them.
John Gabris
Like, yes.
Adam Pally
The amount of times when I've lost something that I have to go like, okay, sit down for a sec. You're literally spiraling. Like, I'm like ripping drawers open. I'm like, like, sit down and breathe and just think about where this goes.
Zach Cherry
Which is what you seem to do for everything else. But like the things of order that you can control.
John Gabris
Yeah, I think, I think maybe yes. Yeah. It's like the little things I spiral out over and the big things I'm like, none of my business.
Zach Cherry
Like, I can't again, that's not that unhealthy to me. That seems like actually like, you know, as. As much as you're. You think you're like obsessing over the small things, to me it sounds like you're just kind of like anybody grasping at straws on things to control while you're plummeting towards your death.
John Gabris
And I think the COVID thing, that was a real moment of that where it was like, I can't control this at all.
Adam Pally
You can control like your environment.
John Gabris
I can control that. I go for a walk, I can control that. I like, you know, try and sleep more and more like et cetera, but I can't control this disease that's ravaging the planet.
Zach Cherry
Are you sleeping well?
John Gabris
Yeah, I actually am. I'm sleeping pretty well. That. You know what helped me with that is I got a little dog who if I don't sleep on a regular routine, she gets confused and will piss everywhere. So now I have to kind of like stay on my.
Zach Cherry
You gotta.
Adam Pally
Your dog walks you, like more or less. It's like time to go to bed.
John Gabris
It really is. Like when we first got her, it.
Adam Pally
Was like, you're very treat oriented.
John Gabris
I'm 100% food motivated. Seriously.
Adam Pally
Preacher choir, essentially.
Zach Cherry
For real.
Adam Pally
I food motivate myself. I go, hey, if you finish this, you can have an egg sandwich.
Zach Cherry
But if I say stay right here and I don't come back for a while, you can move. You don't have to wait by the door.
John Gabris
We'll see what happens.
Adam Pally
Well, you say, you say that now. I shit my pants in the movie theater.
John Gabris
My dog really has helped me like, get a handle on my sleep schedule. Because when we first got her, I would like go to bed at two some nights and like 10 some nights and all these things. And then she would like piss in a random corner because she wasn't getting her routine. And so now it's like, okay, I have to take her out between this time and then I know I'm gonna have to be up to take her out. So I don't want to be tired when I get her up. So that's like kind of. She is in charge.
Adam Pally
That's good. I believe the phrase they use now is called sleep hygiene. And that sounds like some good sleep.
Zach Cherry
Hygie, you drink.
John Gabris
I don't. So that's.
Zach Cherry
That's got to help too.
John Gabris
Yeah.
Adam Pally
How the. Are you fat? You're a vegetarian who doesn't drink. What do you do? What kind of cheese. What kind of cheese are you eating? Are we.
Zach Cherry
They just opened a new pizzeria in Brooklyn. I think I found out why.
John Gabris
First of all, I had a pretty good head start.
Adam Pally
When I got into these things. We're not operating from.
John Gabris
Not a veggie. No, this was.
Zach Cherry
Was.
John Gabris
I actually think.
Zach Cherry
What were you raised on?
Adam Pally
Pizza.
Zach Cherry
Where? Where?
John Gabris
New Jersey. I grew up in New Jersey. Trenton, New Jersey.
Adam Pally
Hell yeah.
John Gabris
Good pizza. But during COVID I actually did. I went vegan for like eight months. In Covid. Yeah.
Zach Cherry
Covid inspired veganism.
John Gabris
Covid inspired veganism. And also just because I wasn't going anywhere. So it was like. The social aspect of veganism was much easier when I was 100, in control of what I was eating. There was no like, oh, we're going out for dinner. Like, can you even eat anything?
Adam Pally
They don't have cheese.
John Gabris
Yeah, exactly. So that was like an eight month situation. That did make me feel a lot better, unfortunately.
Adam Pally
Dude, if. Is there a worse feeling than you're like, holy. I took three months off drinking and got eight hours of sleep a night and got my steps in every day. They were right. And then you're like, the second that falls off, you're like, I know, I know it works. And I can't even bring myself to do the thing that works.
John Gabris
That is. And then really was cheese. It was like, I can't. Can't stay away from this. So to circle back to your question of how are you fat?
Adam Pally
I ask all the female guests that. So I gotta ask the men.
Zach Cherry
And what's your exact age? But you, you eat biologically. You eat like buffalo mozzarella, like an apple. Like, what's going on in your house?
Adam Pally
My morning burrata. Trust trough.
John Gabris
No, you know, it's not. It's not that. Just of the vices that is. That is the one. I'm not like a sweets guy. I'm not a. You know, it really is savory sweet. Or I mean, savory like a cheese cheese and like a cheese plate.
Zach Cherry
Would you crush it?
John Gabris
Oh, yeah, I would crush cheese plate.
Zach Cherry
Oh, my God.
Adam Pally
What about the.
Zach Cherry
I've ordered a cheese plate to a room, like, to a hotel room alone.
John Gabris
I've done that. I've done that many times when I do that. That's me having a healthy me. It's a cheese salad because that's not the pizza and the fries, you know? Yeah.
Adam Pally
The not rushing thing started to jump back to this because it really. In the last couple years, I thought I really hated waking up early, but what I learned was I don't hate waking up early. I hate rushing in the morning. So now, even though I have to wake up early, I still push my alarm like, an extra half hour before. And just the ability that I can, like, sit and sip a coffee or not blaze through something has improved. The lack of sleep is not as bad as, like, rushing to get out of the house and feeling like you forgot something. And now I've brought that into everything. I get to the airport mad early, and I still find myself rushing at times, but I really am on the trying not to rush tip. It really does make me stress. Specifically stress. And then also to tie our whole conversation together, I sweat way less when I'm not.
Zach Cherry
Oh, that's an awful feeling. An awful sweat. One of the worst sweats of all the sweats. Or the morning of a flight, you're not ready for, like, oh, or even.
Adam Pally
Like a morning meeting or something, and you have to rush to get there. Or like, any event where you have to rush to get there. And then you sit down, and for the first eight minutes of hanging out, you're like, okay, hold on. Can we get another round of water?
Zach Cherry
You know, like, you're fucking York too, because. Oh, in New York, like, I like, you have a meeting in Midtown or something. You'll shower at home, get on the train, and by the time you show up to that meeting, you look like you've been through hell.
John Gabris
Yeah, that's why I don't shower.
Zach Cherry
Yeah.
Adam Pally
Yeah, that should slow you down. No rush.
Zach Cherry
No rush, baby.
John Gabris
But that is, I'm, I'm early to things. I was early today, yesterday. Showed up, you know.
Adam Pally
Hell, yeah.
John Gabris
Right on schedule.
Zach Cherry
I, I like to be early. I mean, I, I, I like to be early.
John Gabris
You were here before us.
Zach Cherry
I like to be early. I think also same for the same reason. I just haven't analyzed it. But I, I, I often don't rush. Yeah, I'm not a rusher.
Adam Pally
I, I will like you, you're a father of three. So in times rushing is like your mandate. You're someone's making, you have, Someone's making.
Zach Cherry
Me have to rush. Like we have to get there at this time. But even that, like most of the time I'm up before the kids. Kids very rarely am I not like ahead of the game.
Adam Pally
You know, we spent time in our youth and I don't want to speak for you, Zach, but like I spent time in my youth being like snapping awake and being like kind of because I was drinking or drugging the night before and I'm like, I have 40 minutes to get to anything I have. And like, I'm like, I do not ever want to experience.
Zach Cherry
Or like staying up the whole night to get to the airport is. And you're like nodding off and waking up. Like that's a horrible thing.
John Gabris
I would never do that again.
Adam Pally
No, no. The most grown up thing you could do in that moment is that one hour of sleep in a hotel is still better than just being like, let's just have two more drinks and go straight to the airport.
Zach Cherry
Because that's a walking through.
Adam Pally
There are times somehow in your twenties someone just tells you, you know what, you might as well just stay up and you go, you know what, that.
Zach Cherry
Makes a lot of sense.
Adam Pally
And then you're just like fucking farting on a plane and you just like nasty pig man.
John Gabris
Oh, I think at the time it does make sense though.
Adam Pally
It feels like it because you, because you're also trying to squeeze the juice out of every event and your body is different.
John Gabris
It's different. I, I support all you young kids out there.
Adam Pally
I have a 6:00am flight home tomorrow to, to LA.
Zach Cherry
But you're not going to go out all night tonight.
Adam Pally
No, I'm not. I hope not. We're going out.
Zach Cherry
I don't, I don't plan on doing that.
Adam Pally
I can't. But I can't even eat that much of spicy. That much of spicy.
Zach Cherry
I can't even eat that out of many spicy meat. The ball.
Adam Pally
If any casting directors are watching, I'm sorry. I have work to get rid of my Italian American accent. But it comes back every once in a while when I drink and I have a couple of good grapplers and.
Zach Cherry
When I have a couple of glasses, I, I start asking about your finances.
Adam Pally
Everyone becomes more of a stereotype.
Zach Cherry
My, my.
Adam Pally

John Gabris
You know, I become a bit of a data collector. Man.
Adam Pally
I also have a character, you know.
Zach Cherry
Sitting at that desk, putting in the numbers.
John Gabris
Yeah. You know, it's hard for me to leave my work at home.
Zach Cherry
You know what's crazy? There are people that will be like, not a lot of people will watch this, but the people that will watch this will be coming for you. Like, they'll be the crazy people, like on. On threads and stuff that. That write about severance every week. And they'll be analyzing this discussion thinking that there are things when he said he was cold.
Adam Pally
Now. Okay, letters.
Zach Cherry
Just three garbage people.
John Gabris
No, I am. I have said at least three things that are huge Season 3 spoilers.
Adam Pally
We're not gonna say what.
Zach Cherry
Thank you, Zach.
John Gabris
I will be getting a.
Adam Pally
Now that's a friend, but let's just say corgi puppies. You should like fake spoilers.
Zach Cherry
Alex, My algorithm. Well, I mean, do you. That's. Do you watch? Because I, as a super fan, I do watch, like shout out to JBuck's videos and I do watch some of the people After. Have you watched any of the. Because there are people that do, like, full reviews day after with, like.
John Gabris
I haven't. I see some of the, like, like, fan edits and short clips and things like that, but I. I have not dove into the it's wild after show stuff.
Zach Cherry
It's. It's cool. I mean, it's like.
John Gabris
It is. It's amazing.
Zach Cherry
It feels like Lost or something, you know, it's.
John Gabris
It is wild. It really is wild. Especially this season has been crazy how much, like, energy people put into it and, like, make their own art and make their reviews and. Yeah, it's. It's crazy.
Zach Cherry
People come up to you. Are you getting more freaked out? Is it. Is it. Has any of it been negative?
John Gabris
No. I mean, my dog. My little dog who controls my sleep schedule, she hates when people come approach me. So, like, that's the only time it's weird is that I'm, like, out walking her and she's having a good day, and someone will be like, hey, I do it. And she's. She is a vicious little Chihuahua mix. So she will lunge, throw her full body at them, try and like, oh, wow.
Zach Cherry
Yeah, that's a great way to keep it.
Adam Pally
She's gonna, like, escort you down red carpets and stuff. Like, she's gonna be like your private security.
John Gabris
She does mandate the length of the interaction.
Zach Cherry
She's your Scarlett Johansson. Have you read all her stuff recently?
John Gabris
No.
Zach Cherry
Scarlett Johansson. If someone comes up to take a picture with her, she goes, no, no. And they go, like, why? And she will say, because I don't want anyone to have a record of the two of us in the same space at the same time.
John Gabris
Yeah, I think, awesome.
Zach Cherry
I know that's crazy.
Adam Pally
Like. Like, if someone said. If she said that to me, I'd be like, oh, okay, yeah, that's. And then she walks away. And I'm like, wait, what did she mean by that?
Zach Cherry
Scojo.
Adam Pally
So what data are you nerded out on your Fitbit?
John Gabris
Well, so I also have. I bought a Withings Smart scale.
Adam Pally
Okay, We've discussed this previously, so let's get into this a little.
John Gabris
So John and I are on a fat guy chat. This is important information for the whole world to have. We're on a chat of fat guys. We talk about being fat. I shared my Withing Smart scale. I got the advanced level one, so you have to put your bare feet on it. And then there's a bar that you pick up and hold, and it scans your whole body, and it gives you your thetan level. Yeah. It tells you if you're clear. And it gives you like, fat percentage, muscle mass, water content, tent, all this stuff. It gives you some other, like, electrodermal thing. I don't know. It gives you a bunch of stuff. And then I have this. So I'm just. I'm just a data collector at this point.
Adam Pally
So are you weighing yourself every morning on the smart scale?
John Gabris
Not every morning, but a couple times a week.
Adam Pally
Yeah.
John Gabris
Just to check in, see how things are going.
Adam Pally
I have a very complicated relationship with a scale. Surprising. Literally no one.
Zach Cherry
I hate a scale. I hate it. I hate looking at, like, hotel rooms are the. Probably the only place I weigh myself because it's always crazy when there's a.
Adam Pally
Scale in a hotel room. I'm like, what the fuck?
Zach Cherry
There are. They're always there. They're always there.
John Gabris
But I know I don't. I don't get.
Zach Cherry
It's the only place because, like, I can't. I don't want to know.
John Gabris
Yeah. Well, in the hotel. In a hotel, I'm always on my worst behavior. So it's.
Adam Pally
I'm unobserved. Yeah.
Zach Cherry
I feel like I've gone the other way in life where I'm on. I'm on my best behavior in a hotel.
John Gabris
Interesting.
Zach Cherry
Yeah. I don't know why. It's like, I don't want to spend the money maybe, or I'm conscious. More conscious about what I'm doing.
Adam Pally
There's like. I do think I can maybe get behind this a little bit. I think. I agree. It's maybe because there's new ways to spoil yourself. In your 40s.
Zach Cherry
Yeah.
Adam Pally
Like, when I was in my 20s, spoiling myself would be like going down to the hotel bar, having four bourbons, and then. And getting room service to go. But then all of a sudden, you're in a hotel and you're like, I don't have any of my normal triggers. It's all up to me. And it's like, oh, I'm gonna get a fucking green juice. I'm gonna hit the hotel gym. And that's like a new way of treating.
John Gabris
Yeah.
Zach Cherry
I think that's how I approach every time in a hotel. It's almost like a time for me to like, like, get it right.
Adam Pally
Like a spa getaway.
Zach Cherry
Because. Because, as you know, there's no kids. You know, most of my diet is like. Is like chicken nuggets that I'm picking up. Like, I eat an extra chick. 10 chicken nuggets a day that normal people don't interact with. You know, like, they're always around just.
Adam Pally
Like in the couch cushion on a.
Zach Cherry
Every day there's another pizza bagel that someone else didn't interact with that I eat. That, like, is, like, added to my diet, you know? And. And so when you get to a hotel and you're alone and you're on your own schedule, it's a time to, like, reset and, like, sure.
John Gabris
You know, for me, it's more, I think, also, vegetarian options at hotels tend to be in the category. It's like pizza or like a pasta kind of thing, so. Or it's like.
Adam Pally
Or you can eat a salad, green.
John Gabris
Leaf salad, with nothing.
Zach Cherry
There's no going right past that. Let's be clear. If you say the only vegetarian option is pizza and pasta, then you go, right? And then. And then you go. And then you go. They also do have salad. I guess you could get a salad.
John Gabris
But they don't have veggie, like, protein options.
Adam Pally
It's like, le.
John Gabris
Right, It's. So, you know, usually they do have.
Zach Cherry
Like, a grilled chicken option.
John Gabris
Well, chicken. I don't know if, you know, this is a meat.
Zach Cherry
Oh, yeah.
Adam Pally
He lives. He plays Texas Rules, which do not open the gift.
John Gabris
You know what's funny? There. There is. Is. I have noticed recently there is a lot of confusion around what being vegetarian means, because when I tell people I'm vegetarian, the waiter will go, is eggs okay? And I go, yeah, man, eggs is fine. Or they'll be like, you can have cheese. And I'm like, yeah, yeah. I said vegetarian.
Zach Cherry
Well, but you want a chicken.
Adam Pally
Eggs is. Eggs is a. Eggs is a vague one.
Zach Cherry
Why are you laughing at me?
Adam Pally
I gotta give the waiter. I gotta give the waiters.
Zach Cherry
Why the fuck are you laughing at me, Zach?
John Gabris
The flesh of the animal.
Zach Cherry
What's the fucking egg?
Adam Pally
The egg is the egg on you. I'm sorry, but life begins at conception.
John Gabris
Okay, I didn't know. I guess I didn't know that this.
Zach Cherry
Was a pro life, first of all.
John Gabris
I guess that's literally the point of the show.
Adam Pally
We're pro life also. We're so pro abortion, but we're pro living.
Zach Cherry
Not for fucking 100% pro abortion. I'm not. 100%. Egg is not a meat.
John Gabris
Okay? There's certainly. There's certainly conversation, but it's not a meat to me.
Zach Cherry
Yeah, okay, that's fine. And that's really what matters.
John Gabris
Or to the dictionary or to, you know, sort of.
Zach Cherry
Anyway, you don't want to have a conversation, Zach. You are. I also gotta say this Is this is the whole interview because you started going, I don't do anything to say. Motherfucker wears a Fitbit, measures his fat body fat.
John Gabris
Every day.
Zach Cherry
Fucking every day.
Adam Pally
A couple of days a week.
Zach Cherry
I'm like, you're packing up.
Adam Pally
Not every day.
Zach Cherry
Like, you are clearly obsessed with this, but I re.
John Gabris
It really. It's not in my head about staying alive, okay? It's about staying informed. It's. It's. Have you heard of healthspan?
Adam Pally
Yes.
Zach Cherry
What kind of cult are you getting into?
Adam Pally
I think he's about to quote Dr. Peter.
Zach Cherry
I did not read the books you left me, okay? The books you left for me, I did not read.
John Gabris
I know what else man is, but I. I recently. Recently, five years ago. Health span versus lifespan.
Zach Cherry
Everything you say is a lie. Everything you say is a lie.
Adam Pally
It's not corgi.
Zach Cherry
I have a Corgu puppy.
John Gabris
I would like to have a healthy life, but not necessarily a long. I'm not like, I want to live to 120.
Zach Cherry
No, you're not. You're not measuring your son's hard ons.
John Gabris
No.
Adam Pally
If you want to live to 75, you want to be able to do things into your 70s.
John Gabris
That's what I'm focused on. Whatever the age where.
Zach Cherry
Got it. Thank you for clarifying.
John Gabris
Death comes for me. I would like to still be moving around and that thing so I'm. I really. I'm not trying to stay alive.
Adam Pally
That is such an intense. Intense. He's wearing a married.
Zach Cherry
What would you want a married man wearing a fit who measures his body fat on the regular? Is like, like, I don't give a.
John Gabris
I mean, you got run me over.
Zach Cherry
With a car, put me in a cage.
Adam Pally
I totally believe you.
Zach Cherry
Put me in a cage, run me over with a car. I don't give a fuck.
John Gabris
I don't want that to happen.
Zach Cherry
I don't want it to happen.
John Gabris
But that's none of my business.
Adam Pally
He can't feed me. He doesn't sweat.
Zach Cherry
Feed me through a tube.
Adam Pally
Me with a robot.
Zach Cherry
I don't care.
Adam Pally
Okay. That I agree with. That's fine.
John Gabris
That sounds good. I do have a question though. What are you guys going to do when your first guest on this show dies? Guys, are you going to issue one of us?
Zach Cherry
It's probably going to be one of us. I really do think it's going to be one of us. Before any of the guests, even the old ones we've had, we get.
Adam Pally
We just in one episode. I get up, trip, and then I'm.
Zach Cherry
Like.
Adam Pally
And then the music is, ah, staying alive and I'm bleeding out on. And fix this.
Zach Cherry
Oh, man. No, I don't know. You know, I think as you said, like, the part of. Part of also why we do this is because you. You said you can't control it. Like, yes, we are. Both our parents died young and we are of the mindset of, like, you can't control when. When it comes for you. You know, it's like it could be tomorrow, it could be now, it could be 50 years from now.
John Gabris
Yeah.
Zach Cherry
So the things you can control, you know, you want it to be pleasant.
Adam Pally
Yeah. Like off the healthspan tip. Like, we can't control when we die, but we can control how we live our lives in the meantime.
John Gabris
Yeah.
Adam Pally
It's kind of like grasping my pillows. I know, I know. You held it over my face a few minutes.
Zach Cherry
You can't read it if you're trying to kill me. It's hard to read. You might want to tell it to.
Adam Pally
Me before I had he One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nested me. It's a verb now. I did that body fat scan thing once at a place where, like, you lay in a bed and they do it, and I was at like 30 something percent body fat.
Zach Cherry
Were you like.
Adam Pally
Yeah, but when it. And they weigh you on the bed too, and then they say like, this percentage. So I learned I have like 95 pounds of fat tissue on my body. That's.
Zach Cherry
That's a lot.
Adam Pally
But I will say I know people. I have a. Like, I know small people who weigh that much and I'm carrying an extra person around.
John Gabris
Well, you know, you mentioned having a complicated relationship with the scale. I also do as a big fella. But one thing I like about this scale is it's like, I also. Okay, so I have started strength training with the goal of not being alive, but being strong and health.
Adam Pally
So.
Zach Cherry
So you didn't answer any of those questions honestly because of this.
John Gabris
I didn't.
Zach Cherry
Because of the phrasing, because of the sound. Sinful phrasing. And even now.
John Gabris
And even now.
Zach Cherry
Even now. You knew the whole time that you have been strength training.
John Gabris
I was being honest. But yes, I. I have.
Zach Cherry
I've got.
John Gabris
I've become almost obsessed with it.
Adam Pally
We are at the hour mark of the interview.
John Gabris
I do. I do now lift weight four times a week. Four times a week, yeah. But. But what I like about that scale is even if I'm gaining weight, because that number can be a real, like, head. For big guys especially. I can see that I'm making progress.
Adam Pally
In other areas and that muscle tone and fat are. Yeah, because muscle weighs more than fat. Something I remember saying to about every woman I ever met for the last 25 years.
John Gabris
Sure, sure.
Adam Pally
I got muscle. That's why I'm 310 pounds.
Zach Cherry
This is carrying an extra person of muscle. I got. The extra burst I'm carrying is yolk.
Adam Pally
Let's just say if I'm carrying. If I'm carrying a 90 pound of body fat, that does leave 225 pounds of muscle, bones and organs.
John Gabris
That's right. It's underneath, bro.
Adam Pally
I'll fucking yak, dude.
Zach Cherry
You're going to be a Marvel star. I know it.
Adam Pally
Just as Marvel's crumbling, they're going to bring me in.
Zach Cherry
Yeah. Is there a character?
Adam Pally
You look like Hercules. Good new drawings of Hercules. But they gave it to Brett Goldstein, I think in Paleo.
Zach Cherry
They gave it to Brett Goldstein.
Adam Pally
Yeah. At the end of.
Zach Cherry
He's the size of my boot.
Adam Pally
Yeah. And also, they never used.
Zach Cherry
I am happy that a Jew got a superhero of stature, though. That's nice.
Adam Pally
Yeah, it feels good. It does.
John Gabris
Stature.
Zach Cherry
Well. Cause we only have Ant Man.
John Gabris
Okay. I mean, he technically is the. He can become the biggest.
Zach Cherry
Yeah.
John Gabris
But so in terms of.
Zach Cherry
Then he's the smallest now.
Adam Pally
That's the most Jewish thing about him.
Zach Cherry
Yeah.
Adam Pally
Is that he can become as big as he wants. But he's always complaining about being small. But I'm mostly small. No, but you can do it. But I want to.
Zach Cherry
But it's a whole.
John Gabris
To do. It does use a lot of energy.
Zach Cherry
Yeah.
Adam Pally
What. So are you enjoying strength training? Are you feeling better from strength training?
John Gabris
Yeah, a lot better. And it's something I was never into growing up or in, you know, college. It was like I kind of avoided it, I think, as a big. As a fat kid. Sometimes you kind of are just like, I don't want to, Like.
Zach Cherry
Yeah.
John Gabris
Even think about my body.
Zach Cherry
The gym is high and anxiety.
John Gabris
It can be. Yeah. For me now, though, it's not at all.
Adam Pally
It's like, are you working with a trainer or off, like, a program?
John Gabris
I'm working with a trainer, and then I also go to my local Planet Fitness and. And see what's going on in there.
Adam Pally
So you're doing a couple of days with a trainer and then like one or two solo in the gym. That's awesome.
Zach Cherry
That's a lot of working out.
John Gabris
Yeah. And it's not to stay alive. I just want to be very clear.
Zach Cherry
No one asked really why. You did ask no, no, no, no.
Adam Pally
The opening question, what are you doing to stay alive? Nothing. I'm. I'm exercising, weighing myself in. I'm a vegetarian. I walk my dog every day. But that is not to stay alive.
Zach Cherry
And I'm kind of obsessed with the stats.
John Gabris
Well, you know what's funny is. And I did answer honestly, this all happened slowly, and it was like I found myself addressing specific things. It was like, my back hurts, so how do I stop my back from hurting? Strength training is. Is like a great way to handle that. Then I started getting into that. Yeah. And. And it really was these, like, specific lifestyle things more than a, like, larger goal of, like, I gotta be alive.
Zach Cherry
Life, lifestyle, lifestyle, Health span.
John Gabris
Lifestyle, you know, span. Yeah.
Adam Pally
Health, not lifespan. Not lifespan. Lifespan, not lifespan. But health span and lifestyle.
Zach Cherry
Yeah. I hate to break it to you.
John Gabris
Health span.
Zach Cherry
Health span is not a word that is.
Adam Pally
It's a noun. It's a word. We are wellness podcasters. We have to pretend we know what health span means.
Zach Cherry
Health span is bullshit.
Adam Pally
It just means, like, yes, you can live to 95, but from 75 to 95, if you're not ambulatory or you're on, like, require super care and maintenance, it's not the same as, like, a health span.
Zach Cherry
Do you work out on, like, on set? Have you. Or is this. Has this happened since you've wrapped?
John Gabris
This has happened since I've wrapped.
Zach Cherry
Do you plan on. On kind of getting like a peloton in the trailer type deal or like, what's your.
John Gabris
No, but honestly, because of my sweat, I can't.
Zach Cherry
You like, your trailer's 60 degrees and you go from trailer to set.
John Gabris
It's gotta be. Yeah, it's gotta be.
Adam Pally
Or you actually got a cold plunge put in.
John Gabris
So I would have to wear a. A wetsuit underneath my.
Zach Cherry
Are you cold plunging it?
John Gabris
No, I'm not.
Zach Cherry
We gotta take you to a cold plunge now. This guy's all about.
John Gabris
I'm skeptical on. On that.
Adam Pally
I'm skeptical on the actual results of it, but I'll tell you that it just feels.
Zach Cherry
Yeah, feels good.
Adam Pally
And there's a placebo effect. If it's just a placebo effect, it's still worth my time.
John Gabris
I think it feel good.
Adam Pally
Yeah.
Zach Cherry
Yeah, exactly. That's what I say. I think you would really like a cold.
Adam Pally
And I'll tell you what, I. If I'm like. While we're on this topic, I think in the last year or two, I've really increased my sauna and cold plunge usage. And what I found is That I am a little more adept, adapted to heat sweat. And I sweat less now than I ever did before. I used to sweat way more. But now after spending, you know, 160°, 200, whatever the temperature is, and all the different saunas I like, I have gotten better at not sweating, which is.
John Gabris
Kind of the type of thing that'll get me interested.
Adam Pally
Yeah, it's results already, as you can see.
Zach Cherry
No, I mean, I gotta get a.
Adam Pally
Head sauna for Halloween. You sit with like a skinner box on.
Zach Cherry
So are you dreading? I mean, I hate to break it to you, page, but you're going to be doing a lot of award shows this year. Are you dreading it?
Adam Pally
Because I hate formal wear too. I hate wearing that many layers.
John Gabris
Yeah, you know, I don't love it. I have started working with a stylist who I really like and works with.
Zach Cherry
Give us the name. You can always use a stylist.
John Gabris
Megan o' Connor.
Zach Cherry
Okay.
John Gabris
She's great. I think she's great for bigger clients. Like, she knows how to find stuff. Seriously, hit me up on Instagram. She knows how to find stuff that I like, that I'm comfortable in. That that looks good. So I'm less like dreading it because of that.
Zach Cherry
Don't you think that's the most like, stylist? It's such a luxury to have a stylist. But, but I feel like for guys like us who have body stuff, it is one of the most stress reducing paychecks you can write.
Adam Pally
Oh, yeah, 100.
Zach Cherry
Because when I started using a stylist, it wasn't even about like, I think of myself as fashionable. Like I could pick my own clothes, but it was just the fact that the stylist had my measurements.
John Gabris
Yeah, yeah.
Zach Cherry
And was like, here, this will look good on you. It changed.
John Gabris
Game changer.
Zach Cherry
Everything.
John Gabris
It is, it is.
Adam Pally
And also just like the idea of like, look, I got these pants in two different sizes. We'll see which one works. Because if I try something on and it's too small, I can spiral in a heartbeat. It's. That's, that's a very difficult thing for me to deal with.
Zach Cherry
You have any brands that you're liking?
Adam Pally
Yeah, you got it on right now. About the One Bone.
John Gabris
This is a One Bone. This is a One Bone Bone shirt. I'm like obsessed with One Bone. It's a Canadian, like big and tall brand and it's like 70 of my clothes.
Adam Pally
One bone has been lighting up the fat fat house chat.
John Gabris
Yeah.
Adam Pally
For a while.
John Gabris
Yeah. I've been I've been pitching one bone.
Zach Cherry
You got stock?
John Gabris
I don't. I should.
Zach Cherry
That's the next step.
Adam Pally
Well, you should be modeling for them. One bone. If you're watching for sure.
Zach Cherry
Yeah.
John Gabris
But yeah, I love that brand. They're. They're great. True Classic is another one that's good for. For. I think you. Did you. Have you worn True Classic?
Adam Pally
I believe I have got true. My. My. My hack is Tommy Bahama makes. Like they're like life starts at extra large. Like they don't around like this is double XL and it's big on me. Whereas like a double XL from another designer would be like painted on. So to me, Tommy Bahama and Ralph Lauren like American companies.
Zach Cherry
American Heritage.
Adam Pally
American heritage companies, they know a little like they're make. They're like the like a J. Crew Double X is a legit.
Zach Cherry
I always find Ralph Lauren sizes me correct directly. Yeah, there's something like a Ralph Lauren large is like they're like, we know.
Adam Pally
Yeah. Like I. And now because I know Tommy Bahama double XL fits me when I have like a little bit of money and I'm like, I need to. I just go like four shirts added of new cool patterns and then find.
Zach Cherry
Vintage Tommy Bahama too. That would be like even cooler than the new stuff for sure.
John Gabris
I might have to Tommy it up. I've never. I haven't. I'm a little. I'm like a little. I don't know if I can pull off Tommy Bahama.
Adam Pally
I think you could, but I got.
John Gabris
I tend to keep it more black hoodie.
Zach Cherry
Yeah, yeah. You're the black hoodie king.
Adam Pally
Yeah, yeah, I get that. I get that like this is about.
John Gabris
As adventurous as I go and it's my first. But.
Zach Cherry
But there is. But that's also. There's like a Steve like we were talking about, man, Zoukas and Steve Jobs before. There's a certain. Like, there's a reason those guys do that, you know, it's like it just cuts out a stressor of the day.
John Gabris
It's like, yeah, Steve Jobs is one of my biggest influences comedically.
Adam Pally
He's a data nerd.
Zach Cherry
When you're doing. When you're doing those scenes in Severance, you're thinking about the old iPhone presentations. Yeah, yeah, I see it. How's Merritt Weaver?
John Gabris
Incredible.
Zach Cherry
The best, right?
John Gabris
She is the best. She's the best.
Zach Cherry
You're so.
John Gabris
Did you meet her? Was she there on your mandated walk day? No, cuz we. We spent. We actually like we had. Our season was split in half by the strike.
Zach Cherry
Yeah.
John Gabris
And so, like, we had shot some of our stuff before, but then we spent a bunch of time together on the picket lines and, like, got a lot closer doing that and then finished up the season after that, and I think that probably helped.
Adam Pally
Oh, yeah. Interesting.
Zach Cherry
You're so good in those scenes with her.
John Gabris
Thank you.
Zach Cherry
You're so. Oh, good.
John Gabris
Yeah, she's the best. She's like, incredible.
Zach Cherry
Wow. Do you find that your game gets raised when you're working with people that are like. Like, when merit. I would be like, oh, shit, I better be good today.
John Gabris
I mean. Yeah, it was. I mean, on severance, it's like every scene I'm in is like that.
Zach Cherry
Because John Turturro.
John Gabris
Yeah, it's crazy. And it's like, I think I had gotten used to the group from season one because we did that together. And then they were like, oh, yeah, we're casting Merritt Weaver as your wife in season two. And I did have that moment of. Of being like, okay, well, I better.
Adam Pally
Like, get my shit better.
Zach Cherry
Like, remember my words.
John Gabris
Sure. But she's great and is, like, a great teammate as well.
Zach Cherry
Okay, cool. She was like. She didn't, like, big time you.
John Gabris
No, no, no, not at all. She's very. It was like. It was also that stuff that I haven't had to do professionally before. You know, I'm come from the improv comedy world, so. So it's like, they're not often like, all right, now we're gonna really get into, like, your dude, your gut wrench. Emotional art.
Adam Pally
Yeah.
John Gabris
But she was very. She made me feel very comfortable with doing that. It was great doing it with her.
Zach Cherry
Oh, that's awesome. You're amazing. Some of my favorite scenes.
John Gabris
Thank you.
Zach Cherry
Yeah. So, so good. And, like, it's awesome to watch. Cause you're so funny, like, naturally, but then you're just like, rip your heart out, you know, really, really good. No, I'm not trying not to.
Adam Pally
No. I mean, it got me emotionally in season one, you know, and then season.
Zach Cherry
Two is just like.
Adam Pally
Yeah.
John Gabris
And then season three, some of the Corgi stuff is.
Zach Cherry
Yeah. Well, I'm not allowed to talk about my. My role.
John Gabris
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Zach Cherry
You know, I did.
Adam Pally
Because it's all motion captured.
Zach Cherry
Yeah. I'll talk about. Yeah, I was supposed to do something in season two, and then I think during the strike, it took a left turn away from it, but the thing that I was supposed to do was, like, wild.
John Gabris
Interesting.
Adam Pally
Yeah.
Zach Cherry
I can't wait to talk to you about it.
John Gabris
Yeah. Do you guys have, like, a. A paywall.
Zach Cherry
No. We don't even have a discord. We don't really care about the.
Adam Pally
We're not in this for the money. We're in this to berate our guests into saying, why the. Did you lie to us?
Zach Cherry
Yeah.
John Gabris
Yeah.
Adam Pally
We're here to invite a friend on to do us a favor and then go, what is your problem, you liar?
John Gabris
I see where you're coming from.
Zach Cherry
God knows. We're doing a show. This is a show.
Adam Pally
Yeah, it's a show. You're a bloody liar.
John Gabris
I think the record will show that I was forthright and honest.
Zach Cherry
Really?
Adam Pally
I think the record of this overall podcast will side with every guest over the tour.
Zach Cherry
Oh, yeah. Like, I've listened to a little bit of it so far. I come across less than likeable.
Adam Pally
I am at the point where I cannot listen to myself.
Zach Cherry
So, like, I. Oh, dude, you're the saving grace of the pot. I'll tell you.
John Gabris
I'm listening. I haven't. I did. I didn't even know it had launched yet, really.
Adam Pally
Did we?
Zach Cherry
We didn't even know. I didn't even know that this was on video. I thought that these were.
John Gabris
I was warned about.
Zach Cherry
I put these cameras up for Alibi.
John Gabris
Smart. One crazy thing about the scale is it can tell who is standing on it. Because. Because when my wife stands on it, it makes a guest profile immediately for her. It, like, can sense through your.
Zach Cherry
You weigh 115 pounds. You are 29 years old, essentially. Yes.
John Gabris
Like, it really. It does. It's crazy. It's crazy.
Adam Pally
Oh, man. We got to get a smart scale in here and do some measurements. That could be fun. Smart scale. If you want to sp. What's the brand name?
John Gabris
Whiffings.
Adam Pally
If you want to sponsor us, watch this clip and get pumped.
Zach Cherry
When do you go back to work, Lumen?
John Gabris
I. I don't know.
Zach Cherry
O. Yeah.
Adam Pally
Not until you get your bench press up to 315.
John Gabris
Yeah. Yeah.
Adam Pally
They said they.
Zach Cherry
Are they going to write in your jacked physique?
John Gabris
We'll see. We'll see if it lasts that long.
Adam Pally
Imagine. Imagine you reach out to, like, the team, and we're like, you might want to write up me being Jack Mix. This season rolls around, and you have.
John Gabris
Not fallen off, FYI.
Adam Pally
Hey, bad news, guys. We got to do some rewrites still.
John Gabris
Sort of a new thing, so I'm not sure.
Adam Pally
I'm super confident. Hey, Ben, you might want to make sure my character's jacked in the next season.
Zach Cherry
And since we're casting those Other ones, too.
Adam Pally
Lifting weights, I find, is. Is good exercise for big guys because it doesn't have that, like, out of breath experience with it, and it lets you get some muscle mass. And then all of a sudden you feel like if your shoulders are a little more defined or your back is a little less painful, or when. When your arms are sore, your legs are sore, it feels great.
Zach Cherry
I think that's for everybody.
Adam Pally
Right. But there's something about, like, you're a big guy, you already have good levers.
Zach Cherry
Maybe, or you don't want to do cardio. I mean, like, cardio is truly the worst for. For anybody with. Is the air conditioning working?
Adam Pally
No. Yeah, they open the door, they just fix it.
Zach Cherry
The cardio is the worst for anybody that doesn't want to, like, move their body and feel it move, you know, it's like you don't want to be.
John Gabris
It's tough. Yeah. As. As a big guy, it's tough to find cardio that you can do with.
Zach Cherry
Without, like, the income. You don't want to be on the incumbent bike.
Adam Pally
No, the recumbent bike.
Zach Cherry
The min.
Adam Pally
Incumbent bike is the one where you carry the bike. Yeah, that one does suck, to be fair. Skinnier fat. It sucks to just walk carrying a bike.
John Gabris
Just carry the bike.
Zach Cherry
I thought that was the exercise. Why does it need the wheels?
Adam Pally
It's better exercise to walk carrying a bike. It is to ride it, which is kind of complicated probably, but I keep.
Zach Cherry
Doing mine up a hill and down the hill, and I'm always like, why am. Why don't I just sit on this?
John Gabris
But yes, I have found that's true.
Adam Pally
What are we talking about?
John Gabris
That's true. It really. It really is a game changer in terms of just, like, feeling in your body.
Adam Pally
Yes. The probate, like the feeling, the mind muscle connection, which Arnold talks about a lot, is real. And then you feel that. And then also when you're like, oh, underneath here I have some muscle mass. That feels.
Zach Cherry
Feels good.
Adam Pally
It feels good because you're like, well, now I want to get rid of this layer so people could see your muscle mass. And I. While we are a health and wellness podcast, we are not experts. I do know for a fact that carrying one pound of muscle muscle burns more fat per day. At resting your resting metabolic rate, your it. It burns more calories than a pound of fat. So every pound of muscle you add as you. We accidentally burn calories just by living, by digesting, by walking, by, you know, without any exercise involved. And the more muscle mass you carry, the easier it is to burn. So that's why those huge bodybuilders when they're like insanely fat in the off season, all they do is like morning incline treadmill walks and they carry so much muscle mass, ass that the calories fry off and you know, and they get so lean. So there is something good to building up an extra 10 pounds of muscle that'll just casually burn extra calories every day.
John Gabris
I'm not gonna stop eating that pizza.
Zach Cherry
So, Zach, it's been so fun having you. Do you do need to plug anything or do you not care about that either?
John Gabris
I mean, I don't have anything right now really. You know, except the biggest TV show. Yeah, check out Severance if you haven't. Yeah, I mean, if you have, you.
Zach Cherry
Know, it's such a bummer. I'm dying to ask you questions, but I know you can't answer them.
John Gabris
And.
Adam Pally
And our producer brought noise canceling headphones and an iPad for me so she'll let me. So you guys can talk about it when I'm super.
Zach Cherry
Does it bother you when friends ask? Because like, I know, I know, like the common person that you don't know is, is going to be like, oh, but, but like, it's so good. And like, does it bother you when friends are like.
John Gabris
It doesn't bother me when anybody, when anybody I like, it's like, it's a show I like being a part of. I like being on it. I'm happy to talk about it. I like. It's like it's, it's a fully positive experience for me. So it's. There's no, like, I would kill to.
Zach Cherry
Have one of those.
John Gabris
Yeah, I mean it is honestly 20 rares.
Zach Cherry
Very lucky two decades in television, I haven't had one of those.
Adam Pally
It's. I. I beg to differ. I place 101 places was the only time in my entire career where my imposter syndrome was not activated. I felt completely comfortable. It almost felt like there weren't cameras there. And it just was like, you know, if TR TV didn't drop the ball.
John Gabris
My wife and I were day ones and watched every episode.
Adam Pally
And if you have any, like, questions about what's going to happen in season two of that show, we're down to answer.
John Gabris
What number did you get up to?
Adam Pally
8.
Zach Cherry
8.
Adam Pally
93 left. And we'll get to them.
John Gabris
I would like to see it hit double digits at least 10. Yeah.
Zach Cherry
Two more cities.
Adam Pally
It might really bump heads with our current job of trying to stay alive.
Zach Cherry
That'd be great though. I think the dichotomy is where it's really.
John Gabris
Yeah. That's what makes human beings so interesting, is we have this drive to stay alive. Some of us.
Adam Pally
Not you, obviously. This is what makes humans really interesting. But I choose not to go the interesting route.
John Gabris
Yeah. None of mine.
Adam Pally
Well, next time I'm in town, let's get a fucking pump.
John Gabris
Sure.
Zach Cherry
Yeah, I would love. I would love to lift weights with you guys. I better keep up now.
Adam Pally
Yeah. You sure keep up.
Zach Cherry
No, no, because I can't. I, I can't put up racks like you guys.
John Gabris
Probably me either. I'm still very much beginner, but I.
Zach Cherry
I like being at. I'm starting to enjoy gym.
John Gabris
Me, too. Me too.
Zach Cherry
I like. I think it's fun.
John Gabris
Yeah.
Adam Pally
I love it. I love it.
Zach Cherry
Awesome. Well, Cherry, you're the man.
John Gabris
Thanks.
Zach Cherry
Thank you so much for being here.
John Gabris
I just want to one last time be on the record. I'm not trying to stay alive.
Adam Pally
Okay.
Zach Cherry
Dude.
Adam Pally
Thank you. You got it. No one got the seat of our podcast.
Zach Cherry
No one got the impression that you were happy to be here.
John Gabris
Yeah.
Adam Pally
Zach, this was a pleasure. Thanks.
John Gabris
Super fun.
Zach Cherry
All right. All right. I'm ready.
Adam Pally
All right, that's all in, by the way. That's definitely being used.
Zach Cherry
I, I.
Adam Pally
That was a hell of a chat. Zach cracks me up so much.
Zach Cherry
It's so funny. Yeah, it's. I'm a super fan of the show, so it's like, it was awesome. Just getting to ask a little severance question and stuff. But I also am a super fan of Zach.
Adam Pally
Yeah, I mean, he. He rules. I have not watched season two yet, so. But now I really. Now I really want to.
Zach Cherry
Dude, you are going to burn. I'm jealous. Yeah, you're going to burn through it. It's so good. And he is like, sometimes you forget that he's your friend. Which is my favorite thing that happens, and it happens so rarely with us is like, yeah, one of us will get a job. Job. And you'll be watching. You're like, wow, this. This thing is so good. I forget that you're.
Adam Pally
Yeah.
Zach Cherry
Like a trash person.
Adam Pally
Right. Right. Yeah. Or like, I can't believe you. You and I did this dumb improv scene, but now I'm watching you, like, absolutely crush.
Zach Cherry
Yeah.
Adam Pally
And it's not like, yourself or, like, you know what I mean?
Zach Cherry
It's so different from him. It's like. And he's. He's also like, he. He's always been such a funny person who he is. It's, like, great to See some layers.
Adam Pally
Yeah, well, yeah, you just like, I would be. It wouldn't be like less impressive if he was crushing it in a comedy. But like, he's all. I know he's funny. I did not know what he's actually capable of.
Zach Cherry
Yeah, it feels like there's a lot more too.
Adam Pally
Like, I think we're gonna see a lot.
Zach Cherry
I know because I think he's gonna be a huge star. Like, I would he to me, even before severance, if you were to be like, who's gonna blow up? I'd be exact.
Adam Pally
Cherry. Yeah, he was already kind of getting stuff that you're like, oh, this dude is value added in every scene he's in.
John Gabris
Totally.
Zach Cherry
Yeah.
Adam Pally
And I mean, you know he's funny from performing with him, but then you also see him in and he's like, oh, he's got a great look. He's funny as. And he. Oh, he's great. I'm glad we really dug in on him. And he actually.
Zach Cherry
And a stickler for titles, I guess.
Adam Pally
Oh, man. Still happy to have him. Cherry, if you said you're going to start listening to the pod, I don't think you're listening to this episode. But.
Zach Cherry
But you know who is? Stiller.
Adam Pally
Stiller is. And Stiller. Do us a favor.
Zach Cherry
Stay alive, Benny boy.
Adam Pally
And come on. Come on if you want. Come on.
Zach Cherry
Quit fucking around. Get on the pod. Benny, get over here.
Adam Pally

Here you are. BPM's high. Sweat dripping, body movin' tongue panting. You're working hard, real hard. And you're thirsty. You need vitamins, nutrients for peak performance and energy. And your plants do, too.
Zach Cherry
Aw.
Sean Hayes
I mean, just look at the little guy. Water soluble plant food from Miracle Gro is full of essential nutrients. Just a little scoop into your watering can and boom. Instant feeding and bigger, more beautiful plants. It's kind of like a sports drink for your plants. You may have to suffer from heat, but your plants do not.

Staying Alive kicks off the "Corgis & Fitbits" episode with hosts Jon Gabrus and Adam Pally welcoming comedian and actor Zach Cherry. The episode delves into personal health and wellness journeys, blending humor with honest conversations about maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
The conversation begins with the hosts posing the central question: "What are you doing to stay alive?" (07:57). This question sets the tone for a discussion that balances light-hearted banter with sincere insights into personal health routines.
Jon discusses his approach to health, emphasizing a harm mitigation strategy rather than a life extension focus. Reflecting on changes post-COVID, he mentions:
"If I'm gonna be alive, I might as well make it, like, a little better than it was gonna be." (24:32)
He elaborates on his practices, including vegetarianism and strength training, highlighting how these activities address specific health concerns like back pain.
Adam shares his techniques for managing stress, particularly the importance of not rushing. He explains how reducing rush-related stress has positively impacted his overall well-being:
"Even though I have to wake up early, I still push my alarm like, an extra half hour before. And just the ability that I can, like, sit and sip a coffee or not blaze through something has improved." (25:31)
He also touches on the benefits of strength training, not just for physical health but also for mental clarity and stress reduction.
Zach brings his unique perspective, discussing his use of fitness trackers like Fitbit to monitor steps, heart rate, and sleep patterns. Although light-heartedly referred to as "obsessed" with metrics, he acknowledges the importance of staying informed about one's health:
"I become a bit of a data collector." (37:55)
He also touches on the challenges of maintaining a healthy diet and exercise routine amidst a busy lifestyle.
The trio delves into the impacts of stress on health, referencing insights from cardiologists about stress being a significant health risk. Jon admits to having:
"An anxiety generalized anxiety with OCD flavorings, basically." (26:31)
Despite presenting a calm exterior, Jon reveals his internal struggles, leading to a discussion on the importance of managing both significant and minor stressors effectively.
A substantial portion of the conversation focuses on fitness routines tailored to different body types and personal goals.
Jon shares his commitment to strength training, working with a trainer and frequent gym visits:
"I have started strength training with the goal of not being alive, but being strong and healthy." (50:02)
Adam and Zach discuss their own experiences with strength training, highlighting its benefits for muscle mass and metabolic rate. Adam emphasizes the "mind-muscle connection" and its role in enhancing workout effectiveness.
Jon discusses his use of the Withings Smart Scale alongside his Fitbit to monitor various health metrics, showcasing a data-driven approach to his fitness journey:
"I have a Withings Smart scale. I got the advanced level one... It gives me my fat percentage, muscle mass, water content, etc." (40:53)
The hosts explore their dietary habits, focusing on vegetarianism and the challenges of maintaining it, especially in social settings like dining out or staying in hotels.
Jon recounts transitioning to veganism during COVID-19, emphasizing the ease it offered when not socializing:
"Covid inspired veganism... So that was like an eight-month situation." (30:12)
He discusses the temptation of cheese and how he balances enjoying savory foods while maintaining his health goals.
Zach shares his experiences with restaurant definitions of vegetarianism, often leading to humorous misunderstandings:
"When I tell people I'm vegetarian, the waiter will go, 'Is eggs okay?' And I go, 'Yeah, man, eggs are fine.'" (44:17)
The conversation shifts to the importance of sleep, with Jon highlighting his dog’s role in maintaining a consistent sleep schedule:
"My dog... if I don't sleep on a regular routine, she gets confused and will piss everywhere." (28:13)
Adam and Zach discuss strategies for improving sleep hygiene, underscoring its critical role in overall health.
A unique segment covers the intersection of fashion and health, particularly for individuals with larger body types.
Jon introduces his collaboration with stylist Megan O'Connor, who specializes in finding comfortable and flattering clothing for bigger clients:
"She's great for bigger clients. She knows how to find stuff that I like, that I'm comfortable in." (55:36)
Adam and Zach discuss their favorite brands like Vuori and One Bone, emphasizing the importance of clothes that fit well and reduce stress.
The hosts delve into maintaining an active lifestyle beyond the gym, touching on activities like walking the dog and integrating exercise seamlessly into daily routines.
Adam shares his recent adoption of saunas and cold plunges, noting the physiological benefits and personal satisfaction:
"I have grown adapted to heat sweat. I sweat less now than I ever did before." (54:20)
Zach humorously suggests cold plunges for Jon, highlighting the camaraderie and support among friends in their health journeys.
As the episode wraps up, the hosts reflect on their personal growth and the importance of community in maintaining health. They discuss the potential of sharing their fitness journeys with listeners and the role of supportive friendships.
"We're here to invite a friend on to do us a favor and then go, 'What is your problem, you liar?'" (61:46)
They conclude with plans to possibly collaborate on fitness activities and continue encouraging each other in their health endeavors.
