Claudia
Hello, I'm Claudia. I was born and raised in Sardinia and I still live here. I'm the person behind both the Stream Sweetly Cerdina travel blog and this podcast where I share practical trips to help you plan your trip and avoid the mistakes I see travelers make all the time. In the last episode we talked about how expensive Sardina is. In this episode let's answer the real question. Can you actually visit Sardinia on a budget? Before we start, make sure to check the episode description. That's where you'll find the link to the full blog post for for this episode on the blog and go into more details. And that's where you'll find accommodation options, practical tips and everything you need to actually plan your trip. Now let's get into it. The Truth let's start with something very clear. Sardinia is not a cheap destination. If you're expecting ultra low prices, cheap beach holidays or last minute deals. In August you're going to Be disappointed. This is one of the biggest misconceptions here. People assume Sardinia is like Greece of season or parts of Spain. And it's not. Sardinia sits firmly in the mid to high price range. But, and this is the important part, that doesn't mean you can do it on a budget. It just means you need to be intentional about it. If you take only one thing from this episode, let it be, do not come in August. If you're on a budget, August is the busiest month, the most expensive and the least flexible. Everything is booked, everything is crowded, and prices go up across the board. And yet this is when many people come. If you want to save money, do the opposite. Travel in May, June or September. You pay less, have more options, and enjoy your trip more. Honestly, this is one decision alone can change your entire budget. The next issue is location. A lot of people focus on Forto, Cervo, the Emerald coast, or the most famous beach towns. And then they're surprised when the prices are high. Those are the most expensive areas on the island. If you're on a budget, you need to be flexible. Stay in Caliari, stay in smaller towns, stay where the locals stay. And here's something people don't always realize. You do not need to stay. Stay right on the beach. In many cases, staying 10 minutes away cuts your cost significantly without changing your experience much. Let's be practical. If you want to save money on accommodation, book early. Especially for summer, look beyond hotels. You can choose apartments or bed and breakfast. Don't lock yourself into one exact location. Compare different towns. And most importantly, stop about trying to find a perfect place in a very specific area. That's how you end up overpaying. On the blog, I've listed actual options you can compare. This is where this becomes practical, not theoretical. Now transport. This is where I see a lot of unrealistic expectations. People assume they can rely on public transport here in Sardine. And in most cases you can't. Not if you want to explore properly. If you want to visit beaches, move around, hike. And actually, since Sardinia, you'll most likely need a car. But to keep costs down, you need to book early, choose a small car and don't wait until the last minute. Also, food is expensive. Distances are longer than what you may expect, so plan your movements. Driving back and forth across the island every day will increase your cost quickly. Food is actually not the problem. You can eat very well in Sardinia without splitting spending a lot. But if you need to avoid the obvious traps, restaurants right next to major tourist spots, overpriced menus in peak locations. Instead, you should eat a local trattoria. Go a few streets away from the main areas and you don't need to eat out three times a day. Honestly, you shouldn't. Regarding beaches, don't overpay for something that is free. This is something I always say. The best beaches in Sardinia are free. You don't need beach clubs to enjoy them. Yes, beach clubs are nice, they're comfortable, but they're expensive. If you want to save money, bring your own umbrella. They are sold very cheaply at local markets, supermarkets. Bring water and snacks and food. Choose beaches with easy access. Even small daily costs like parking. Sunbeds add up over a week now. Boat tours are amazing. Places like Calamariolu, Cala Goloriza, Maddalena Archipelago are absolutely worth seeing. But here's the thing. You don't need to book a tour every day. Pick one or two key experiences and build your trip around that. If you try to fill every day with activities, your budget will disappear very quickly. And you know there's nothing better when visiting Sardinia in the summer than be lazy on the beach throughout the day. On the blog, I've linked to tours that are actually worth it, so you can choose properly. What makes Sardinia expensive? Now, if I had to summarize it. Sardinia becomes expensive when you combine peak season, last minute planning, expensive location and too many paid activities. Avoid that combination and your costs will stay under control. So can you visit Sardinia on a budget? Yes, but not by accident. It takes planning, it takes flexibility, it takes realistic expectations. If you get those right, you can have an incredible trip without overspending. Now, before we finish, don't forget to check the episode description. That's where you'll find the link to the full blog post. On the blog I go into much more detail and that's where you'll find link to accommodation options, practical tips, links to things like car rentals and tours. If you want help planning your trip and making the right choices for your budget, you can also book a one hour consultation with me. The link to that is in the episode description and in the next episode I'll be talking about a pressing issue for many families visiting Sardinia. The best family resorts in Sardinia. If you found this helpful, share with anyone planning a trip to Sardina and feel free to leave a rating or a good review until next week. Goodbye.
