Hello, I'm Claudia. I was born and raised in Sardinia and I still live here. I'm the person behind both the CPA blog and this podcast where I share practical tips to to help you plan your trip. In the last episode I talked about San Teodoro. In this episode we're answering one of the most important Is Sardinia expensive? Before we start, make sure to check the episode description. That's where you'll find the link to the flug post for this episode. On the blog I go into more detail and you'll find hotel recommendations, tours, and all the practical information you need to actually plan your trip. You now let's get into it. So, is Sardinia expensive? Let's start with the short answer. Sardinia is not cheap, but it's also not as expensive as many people think. In fact, compared to major cities like London or Paris, Sardinia can actually be more affordable. But and this is a key point, prices vary a lot depending on when you visit, where you go and how you travel. For example, places like Porto Charvo and the Emerald coast of are among the most expensive areas in Italy, but other parts of Sardinia are much more affordable. So instead of asking is Sardinia expensive? The better question is how expensive will your trip be? Let's look into accommodation first, which is usually your biggest cost? Accommodation is usually the biggest part of your budget. Here's what you can realistically exclude Expect a budget room. Budget accommodation costs around 40 to €80 per night. Mid range is between 100 and €200 per night, whereas high end costs €300 plus. And it's easily much more in luxury areas. And this can go even higher in peak season. Now here's what really matters. Location and timing. Coastal areas are more expensive. August means highest prices, last minute bookings, worst prices. On the other hand, inland towns, cities like Cagliari shoulder season trips can be significantly cheaper. Transport is another big cost and often overlooked. If you want to explore Sardinia properly, you'll need a car. Rental Prices vary around 25 to €70 per day in lower season, between 80 and 100 per day in summer. If you book late, then you need to add fuel, parking, insurance. Public transport exists, but it's limited and not ideal if you want to visit beaches or move around a lot. This is one of the bigger mistakes that people make when budgeting. Food is actually one of the easier parts of your budget. Typical prices are coffee and pastry between 3 and 5 Euro, depending on where you get it. Casual meal around 25 Euro, restaurant dinner around 50 per person. You can spend more, especially in high end restaurants, but you don't have to. And if you mix restaurants, supermarkets and simple meals, you can keep this very manageable. But there are then activities and hidden costs. This is where people usually go over budget. Because there are quite a few extra costs that add up. For example, beach Parking, which can be up to 20 Euro per day. Beach clubs between 2050 and even more per day. Boat tours between 50 and 150 per tour, ferry or landing fees. Then you have tours, guided experiences, excursions that are not mandatory, but they're often part of the experience and I usually recommend them. What a trip to Cerdina then actually costs. To give you an idea, if you are traveling on a budget, you can expect to spend between 75 and 100 Euro per day. Mid range between 200 and 250 per day. And luxury 600 and plus per day. And a typical one week trip would cost between 500 and 1500. Whereas if you travel in mid range between 1300 and 2000 and much higher for luxury. And again, this depends heavily on your choices. And these are prices per person by the way. So what makes Sardinia expenses from experience? Sardinia becomes expensive when you travel in July or August. You book late, you stay in high end coastal areas, you rely heavily on tours and beach clubs. On the other hand, you can reduce costs by traveling in May, June or September. Booking early. This is key. Choosing your base carefully and avoiding the most expensive areas. So the most important takeaway is Sardinia. Expensive. It's a mid to high budget destination with very expensive luxury options. But it's also flexible. You can spend a lot or keep it under control depending on how you plan your trip. Now, before we finish, just a quick reminder. You'll find the link to the full guide for this episode in the description.
