This episode of Stylish is brought to you by Dan Murphy's Find out what's new now and next when it comes to trending drinks. This is Stylish, the podcast for all things fashion, brand, beauty, business and lifestyle. My name is Madison Sullivan Thorb. My co hosts are Ani Kajoshi Smith. And today, while our lovely Jo enjoys a little bit of honeymoon, we are joined by friend of the podcast, fashion stylist, fashion commentator, our friend and yours. And now joining in, the co host, Rangs. You are co host of no utes in the valet. It is none other than Elliot Garneau.
C
Raise the roof, girls. I am so pumped, like, to have been a part of the stylish ecosystem for a little while now. Obviously we've d not only live events, we've done records and different bits and pieces, but to actually be here and co host today, Milestone moment. What a way to end 25. Thank you so much for having me.
A
We are so pumped to have you. I feel like I followed you for so long now. And I think one thing I love about how you style people is you make them look and feel like themselves. Like so many stylists, I feel like sometimes they turn people into like this whole enigma. And I just love how authentic you are.
C
So I will actually take that. That is very humbling and I'm very grateful for that, that compliment and that observation. So thank you, Annika. Because when I started out as a stylist, the most important thing to me when working with talent or anybody really, was to make sure that they ultimately felt themselves because that's where they'll feel the most confident.
A
Totally.
C
A lot of stylists will build their career on the basis of the fact of trying to determine what aesthetic they think they have as a stylist.
A
Yeah.
C
But at the end of the day, it's not about you.
A
Yeah.
C
It's about your talent and them feeling the best. Or any client. As I said just now, it's about any person you're working with feeling their best.
A
Exactly. I love that. That's why I love Kiwis.
B
Okay, bit of context off, Mike. These two were just having a total love affair over New Zealand. Elliot's never been. Just got back and was raving about it like he is a found citizen.
C
I'm now the Australian ambassador to New Zealand. Like, I'm obsessed by partners. Kiwi. Annika's Kiwi. I loved Queenstown. It was beautiful. The country, the people, every. Everything about New Zealand is exceptional.
A
There you go.
B
Honestly, whatever the Equivalent of, like, visit Australia is. You're going to be the ambassador for that next. We'll be adding that to you guys.
C
Bird for Halloween 26. You watch.
B
Okay, today, guys, we have a very exciting episode. We're going to be talking all things summer dressing. We know that Annika is usually our industry expert on all things trend report.
A
I'm handing over the bed into.
C
Please don't.
A
No, no, I.
C
This is a team effort. The girls are locked in together. The three of us. Girlies, we're locked in.
B
Oh, no. I'm just here to facilitate. We are talking everything from styling, fabrication, formulaic dressing. We are talking the lot. But first, we are going to do the swap, which, hilariously, despite listening to as much of stylish.
C
I'm already embarrassed.
B
Despite listening to as much of stylish as Elliot has. He rang me today and goes or voice noted me and goes. So, like, what. What do I bring in? Like, what do I physically bring in? And I was like, no, you don't need to physically bring what you're stopping in. Like, don't bring, like, your favorite, you know, photo of your family. Like, just a product that you love and talk about it. But he has brought it in regardless.
C
So, I mean, like, not to get all confident for my first time co hosting the show, but, like, we need to have a word to the producers because it reads like it's show and tell circa 1996. Our lady of Lourdes Catholic Primary School in Armadale. So here's my show and tell. Bing brought it with me and show shut his kickers off.
A
Yeah, I already have.
C
Okay. I am addicted to dermal therapies. Lip balm.
A
Oh.
C
But if I can't find one on the go, I'm always trying to replace it. And I've tried every single lip product I on the market. Anyway, this morning, as I was flying back to record this episode, I stopped off at Mecca in Sydney airport. And this is a new product from glossier called the Lip Glaze. It might not be new and anyone who I know that the stylish listener is very savvy when it comes to beauty. Anyway, Icy come for me if I'm wrong. I'm happy to be educated, but it's kind of got, like, a cooling effect and it's a kind of cute blue color. I love that giving gender reveal.
A
It is pink or blue.
C
So anyway, it actually works. And it's got a nice thick consistency which is not dissimilar to my dermal therapy.
A
I love that cooling texture. Like, I Feel like we all need a little of that.
C
Yeah, right?
A
Yeah.
B
I also love a primer that has that cooling texture. It's quite nice when you have that effect before you pop on your little, you know, tinted moisturizer or foundation.
C
Very true.
B
All right, Annika, Joshi Smith, what have you got for us?
A
Okay, well, I'm gonna do a reverse swap. So last week I asked the girlies to give me some recommendations because I was always a member of. Of the itty bitty titty committee, and ever since now I'm at the stage of my pregnancy, the girls have.
C
I'm not sure if I agree with you, but I'm looking across you.
A
Hanging on. And I have got three pregnancy friendly recommendations which I really want to swap in because these were fab. Honestly, my DMs got blown up. The top recommendation was Jum, which is a really gorgeous brand. And I'm actually wearing one of their Bralettes today. And they're so cute because you can kind of detach them. So if you want to breastfeed and go down that route. So super easy. The second was Booty, which is an Australian brand, a little bit more cost effective, really cute, kind of like, I would say almost like sports bra detailing, but really comfy. And then Mamamiela. I don't think I'm gonna need to wear Mamma Miela just yet because they were for the leak proof everything kind of like really, you know, bra friendly option there for the pregnancy. But Jum is my top pick.
B
Okay.
C
Booty's also amazing just for if there's any boys listening. They make great jocks. Really, really good jocks. Actually, Booty and Skims are the two jocks that I wear the most.
A
Okay, there we go.
B
I actually, one of my neighbors got a delivery of Booty and I was having a chat to her in the lobby about it, so. Yeah, apparently their knickers are great too, so.
A
Yeah.
C
And you buy them like the chemist.
A
We love that.
B
Oh, love a bit of convenience.
C
Perfect.
B
All right, my turn. Lucky last. I actually have my makeup done on Saturday because. And we're going to cover it next week. We're not ignoring the topic. We had our beautiful Joanna Fleming's wedding. Not a dry eye in the house. And Annika and I, you would have thought, were her proud parents because we were in the. In fact, standing at the back, absolutely wailing like two babies. To the point.
A
Proud besties.
C
Come on, you can be proud besties.
A
It felt like we were giving her.
B
Away to the point that Sophia, who did Jo's makeup actually handed me a tissue because I was crying that much. She was like. I was like, that's when you know you're probably being a bit much.
C
Sophia Fetus.
A
Yes.
B
Who's a very talented makeup artist.
A
She is gorgeous.
C
Incredible. And inside and out.
B
Inside and out. And honestly, the look that she did on Jo was impeccable. But Sophia did actually compliment and say, your makeup looks great. So shout out to Alex at Mecca Chadstone, who did a total beat. I said, look, I'm not gonna lie, Alex. I'm a little hungover. I'm a little dry. I look a little tired. Help a girl out. So two products she used on me that I went, yeah. Add to cart. One was the Morphe Color Correcting Concealer in like, 02$22. Bloody bargain.
C
Say less.
B
Great. And also just for anyone who's, like, fair but, like, dark under the eye, which no matter how many times I get 10 hours sleep and have one coffee, it's still there. The other was a too faced product, which I don't think I've won too faced since 2016.
C
The lip injection. I get a life.
A
Even the lip liner. So good.
B
Okay. So I tried the eyeliner, which the reason why I was talking about being a Sookie sob at the wedding was that the eyeliner, it's called the killer liner. Is unbelievable. Did not move. And I'm talking. It got put on at 10:30. Annika and I were at Macca's at about quarter to 12.
A
So, you know, she looks super fresh when I dropped her home.
C
Too faced.
A
Yeah.
C
I think it's kind of like the hidden product. I mean, it's kitschy. It's not the one I love to see on my nightstand if I'm being totally honest. Or on my vanity. Sorry, my nightstand. Why am I putting on eyeliner before bed? Don't ask questions, girls. But it's not. I don't love the packaging. But seriously, it performs.
A
It does. It really does.
B
I would agree. And also, a lot of makeup artist friends will still swear by Born this Way concealer, which is such a throwback, because if you put that foundation on, that is a beat.
C
Don't tempt me with a Lady Gaga song.
B
Next, we're going to be getting into the trends that are set to dominate this summer. But that's going to be right after a word from today's sponsor. We've made it to December, friends. Cheers to that. And while the silly season's been in full swing for a few weeks now, the best is yet to come. A huge thank you to Dan Murphy's for making this episode of Stylish possible. We know how much you guys love our trend reports and we also knew how much you loved the face to Face episode we did with Elliot where you know, he was talking cosplay dressing and I mean, what did you say you dressed as? Who was it?
C
Oh, Ace Ventura, lest we forget.
A
I love that.
C
Oh my God.
B
But we love the way you were talking about formulaic dressing and just the items to have in your wardrobe. So we thought while Jo was away having you on here just made total sense because we could just squeeze all of the knowledge we could out of you while we're starting to think about all of those trends we then start seeing come through as we head into summer. I mean, you wouldn't know it today. It's the first day of summer in Melbourne and it is piercing rain. Sideways, I like, thank God I've got a padded bra on because otherwise like could have kept a car on my way. But let's kick it off. We're with the trend experts. I'm just the, I'm the mere facilitator today. We're obviously going to be mentioning so many high end brands today and by no means are we telling you to get your life savings and head to Loewe. It's just where we're looking for Inspo and then we're going to chat a little High street. So we can talk where you can get the look for less. Okay, trend one. I was going to say ladies, not quite. Sorry. Is slip and sleepwear elevated? Talk to me. We feel like we're seeing this everywhere.
C
Ladies first.
A
Yes. I get so around this trend. I feel like slip dresses are just quintessential 90s style. Like, they take me back. I envision Kate Moss and, like, Naomi Campbell on the runways, and it's effortless, easy dressing. And it's something, actually, I have been getting around a lot in this pregnancy. I. I feel like the fabrics are still giving, like, a sexy kind of lace stretch is so good on the body. Paired with, like, some silky pajama style pants. I've been wearing these ones from Amory, which I absolutely love, and I just feel like there's something so effortless about the look and the trend.
C
I totally agree. And I think that the thing that makes it so successful and very easily adaptable from outside of the bedroom and onto the streets is the fact that the fabrications are generally quite luxurious. Like, as an lace, a lot of these pieces are either cut in silk and satin as well. So they immediately have more of an an evening feel to them.
A
Yeah.
C
So just by putting them back with your favorite pair of ballet flats or even with, like, a sandal or a pair of thongs, you're kind of creating this quite effortless juxtaposition between day and night, which translates really well. Again, Annika, to your point, like, it's got this whole 90s kind of Kate Moss revival. So it's a very effortless, cool girl esthetic that not only can be worn by itself, but really easily layered.
A
Totally.
B
How do we make sure that we're not looking like we've stumbled out now? Jim jams like, you know, the firemen's out the front. We're just, like, gone for a stroll while we wait for the house to, like, get cooled down.
A
I feel like accessories can always make a break. So, like, going back to the shoes and everything, you were just saying, like, a really beautiful necklace, big bangle. Like, what's that really cool brand? Anarossi.
C
Yes, Anarossi, for sure. Big earring.
A
Yes. They dress it all up so effortlessly and easily. And I think just kind of wearing things layered as well makes it feel a little bit more or less boudoir. Like.
B
Yeah.
C
I was also going to say, like, unless you know the fireman's going to be hot, you're not doing a full beat and a blow wave to go and answer the door. So Your glam makes all the difference.
B
Oh, yeah.
C
When it comes to, like, to be honest, like, if you bought something, say in a full luxury category like La Perla and you actually had full glam done, you really could wear that out. You really honest. Because these pieces are ready to wear.
A
These are cost per wear.
C
There's a cost per wear. I mean, I'd wear it a few times, but. But. But everything comes down as well. Not only to the accessories, bits of the glam.
B
Yeah.
C
So if you're elevating any outfit with a great red lip, a beautiful winged liner and a gorgeous blowout, it will immediately look elevated.
B
Yeah. So where are we going for these kind of pieces?
A
I'm going every.
C
I saw that. We. We. Well, we've both. We've both brainstormed. Maison Essential was the first brand that came into my head.
B
Yeah.
C
That go to local Australian brand. Absolutely Stunning started out very much in this category that I would say was very specific to this whole kind of like nighty dressing.
B
Yeah.
C
Or nighty night dressing as I'm liking to coin it. But this brand and the designer have kind of transitioned into more of a ready to wear label.
A
Yeah.
C
While still retaining that aesthetic. So if you're going to look anywhere and you want a place to. Would be my biggest recommendation. Another Aussie brand, sa. Essie Charlotte from sa, she does great coords in like that. Like, they look like the most elevated chic pajamas you've ever seen in your entire life. But again, back with the right shoe and the right handbag. Stunning.
B
Totally. One lucky last from me is Cat the label. I was actually in there. I buy a lot of my bras and knickers from them.
C
Right. I don't know. Kat, the label. Can you educate me?
B
Absolutely. So they've just opened a flagship on High Street Armadale, but they're predominantly online.
C
Okay.
B
They do really beautiful. Just like lace little bralettes and underwear. Like, so good. If you just need like a little sexy freshen up or, you know, just.
C
Coming to town.
B
They do really beautiful sleepwear and they've just. They were out of stock when I was in there, but I signed up for the back in stock notification. Spoiler. It's back. Just really beautiful little cami sets with, like lace fronts that I'm like, great. I could definitely tell you that with like a Jane a heel. Great. You know, you find me at Alberts with a glass of wine on a Friday.
A
I love that. And you know what? So if you really want to go all out and complete the look with the shoe. P. Johnson have the cutest femme satin slip on, like, little actual slippers.
C
Oh, gorgeous.
A
I know exactly what they are on my waist.
C
I know what you're talking about. Yeah, I know exactly what you're talking about.
A
Like, I just feel like they are so cute. Even with, like, a big, like, barrel leg trouser or denim, they would be so feminine.
C
Yeah, for sure.
A
Beautiful touch to the look.
C
And an affordable option on that as well, because I've just been doing some last little bits and pieces for Carrie Bickmore rounding out the give for her styling. Tony Bianco's got some great options in that same ilk.
A
We love that.
B
We love a Tony B. I'm a.
C
TV stand babe from way back.
B
I know. And we did cover this on the first step.
C
We did too. Yeah.
B
Okay. Trend two is one that I'm personally the most excited about. It is exposed structure and hardware. And, Elliot, I know, you know, you get on Sunrise each week, you talk about what you're seeing on red carpet and Runway. Where have you seen this trend play out? And how do you think you'll start incorporating it into clients? Or the way that, you know, it was a certain friend, FaceTime, you asking whether they should buy it. What advice would you be giving?
C
Essentially, what this trend is incorporating is the actual attachment of the hardware as part of the gown or the jacket or whatever it might be. So what it allows you to do is actually significantly reduce your accessories. And from the perspective of actually saving a bit of dosh, it's great because you don't have to go. And when you're buying new outfit, I want a new earring for this wedding and a new dress and a new shoe. And then all of a sudden, it all adds up. So what it actually does is allows you to minimize your accessorizing while still making maximum impact. So Bottega Veneta really led from the front and started this trend. And then, as per anything, as per cerulean, we know how it started, and we know girls. But now brands like Meshki, which, no shade to Meshki, obviously, they're a fast fashion brand, but arguably my favorite in the country. Yeah, I just put a dress on Carrie this past week. She was doing responsibility for the F1 over in Adelaide. And it's all the embellishments that are down the front of the dress. And the dress was just a plain black, simple lbd.
A
Yeah.
C
But it just made such a point of difference, and it kind of spoke volume without screaming.
A
Yeah, love that. I think that's the thing about this trend which I love the most as well. I feel like instantly you're just elevated, and you feel so much more put together. I live in black, as we can see today. And I've actually got this dress from Essie Studios. It's the most beautiful kind of, like, sheath dress that's so simple, and then there's a silver clasp at the back that just brings it all together. I'm really, like. Just lifts the look.
B
Yeah.
A
But when I think hardware, I instantly think Christopher is. But of course, like, how can we forget? Christopher is. But. But I feel like he does it in such a great way where it's, like, balancing form and function. Masculine, feminine. Like, he does it in a way that it just feels really intricate to the design, and you only need to wear the look. So then hair and makeup can be minimal. Everything else can be very bad.
C
Christopher as well. I completely agree. This great quality. He's like the absolute one leading from the front there.
B
Yeah.
C
One tiny bit of advice I want to leave as well is that if you're not into this, the over embellishment or you feel like it might be a bit too much for you, have a look at the hardware on the garment as well. Like, a lot of great designers will really take into consideration the zips they're using or the fastings that they're using on their garments or their jackets, whatever they may be, too. So a big, bold zip actually can do a lot of the talking for you if you're not into, like, a huge moment.
A
I love that. I love a pantaloon and a blazer.
C
Yes.
A
Off I drop my blazer.
B
Okay. Trend number three is vibrant colors and textural revival.
C
Now.
B
I mean, the irony that I'm sitting here in, like, a monochromatic pretty much all gray. Annika's in all black. Elliot. I'm so blue.
A
We love the powder blue. I love it too.
C
I'm absolutely obsessed. This shout out to Aaron Dearing. I went and bought one of these T shirts in every color. Light blue, dark blue, red, yellow, green.
B
Do you know what? We were actually. This is. So when you say this, I literally just ran over to Zara and Ray before we started recording. Erin Deering, who has the brand during, uploaded the most incredible creative for the new shoes. She's about to drop with all of this, like, confetti and shout out to her, like, we love an Aussie girl that can just nail creative. This felt like a campaign I could have honestly seen for a new, like, Jimmy Choo shoot.
C
Yeah. Well, for those who are listening, who follow Erin, she's actually a great segue into this next trend because she has become to me the new age maximalist.
B
Yeah.
C
What she does well is more. And in an age of less or quiet luxury, she's leading from the front, doing the polar opposite.
B
Yeah.
C
So the 80s are back girls in a big way. So that really heavy, highly printed summers that we've seen are kind of behind us now. And brands like Loewe SS26, like Versace SS26, both under their new creative directors have shown how powerful simple color blocking can be. I'm kind of obsessed with it.
A
I love it. Honestly, we saw so much over the spring summer runaways and just like color blocking, doing things so differently. Like, I think we went through this big poochy summer phase and now it's like, how do we do things a little bit differently, a little bit more understated, but with color.
B
I love it. Okay, so let's say you're a little bit scared. Speaking for no one in the room.
A
She does not get scared around red. Come on.
B
No. Yes, she does love a little red around the shoulders.
C
You are the OJ babe.
B
Guilty. Don't steal the future trends that come out. But where do you start? Like, if you're used to just sitting in monochromatic, what advice would you have for playing with color or texture?
C
Start with exactly what I've done today and with a simple T shirt.
B
Yeah.
C
I would always formulaically dress myself by putting my outfit together, whether it was a jacket and a trouser and whatever, shoe. And then I would pull it all back together with a plain white T shirt from as colour. Yeah. Every single time. And only in the past three months I've been like, fuck, I'm bored of these plain white T shirts. And I reckon they're pretty bored of me as well. So I was like, okay. Then I saw the spring summer Runway starting to happen and I was like, okay, maybe I'll do a blue T shirt instead of a white T shirt. And then I was like, oh, that was fun. Okay, maybe I know I'll try green. And. And then all of a sudden you just kind of start to build this, this little relationship with color. I'm not going to say change your whole wardrobe.
B
Yeah.
C
Go to one of the affordable stores. You can get the cheapest T shirts from Kmart, Target, cos for something a little bit better quality and they're more mid range Uniqlo and start to play with color that way. A basic T shirt's really easy.
A
Yeah, I love that hot tip. I literally have Jo screaming in my head right now, like, her bloody color analysis. We will never let it up. If you're unsure what color suits you, do a color analysis. We'll give Jo a call. She'll be able to tell you.
B
Tre number four one. I am personally so passionate about red.
C
Jumpers around your shoulders.
A
Yes.
B
Well, perfect segue really is preppy. Preppy is back in a big way and it really is this, like, tailored rework. It's, you know, we're seeing it everywhere age. I know I'm going to steal your thunder. I was looking through your notes. I mean, Ralph. Ralph Lauren really just coined this.
C
Yes.
B
But tell me, who do we look to for preppy? Where are we seeing it reworked and how can we incorporate it into our everyday life without looking like Martha Stewart in the hamptons in their 90s.
C
My queen of the new age. So prep is totally timeless. Let's start there.
B
Yeah.
C
It will never come, it will never go. It represents a completely timeless style that transcends generations.
B
Yeah.
C
But it has its iterations. And my 2025 Queen of Prep is actually Jennifer Lawrence.
B
Oh, I love that you said that.
C
I'm just obsessed with her. So what Jennifer Lawrence is doing, she wears a lot of the row, which let's call spade a spade is obnoxiously overpriced. But that doesn't mean that you can't go and build the building blocks from somewhere else. Because the clothing is that simple. You could genuinely recreate it at Cos and Zara. But what I love about her, she has the traditional underpins of prep. The ballet flat, the jumper tied around the shoulders, the Ralph Lauren Pete cap. But it comes down to the way in which she's wearing it now and which is in flat fit and silhouette.
B
Yeah.
C
So she's not going like that. Really old school. Like, if you put it back to London, they call them Sloan Rangers that hang out in Sloan Square and they wear a skin type polo with pearls. It's like a street style prep icon. She's like the hybrid. Harry Styles is another one who does it really well for guys. And now that he's dating Zoya Kravitz, she's jumped on board as well.
A
They look fantastic.
C
They always look so good.
A
Yeah.
C
So if you. If you're following any of them, Jacob Elordi's another one too.
A
Yeah.
C
So if you're following Jacob Elordi, Harry Styles, Zoe Kravitz, Jennifer Lawrence. This is what I want to See as the new age prep in the summer of 2026. And to be honest, I'm even taking inspiration from them. I'm obsessed.
A
Love that.
B
Annika, where are you seeing it?
A
So Tory Burch actually, like, so wild for me, but she was actually just coined the cool uptown girl by who, what, where? And her SS26 collection was just giving so much preppy, but in a cool way. Like cool pencil skirts, cute little polos, adding soft embellishment to kind of lift the looks. But everything that they did, I think, as well can be replicated. Like you. If you really want to get around this trend, look to Tory Burch's SS26 Runway collection. Because it's a whole mood board for how you could actually replicate those looks at home through Zara, through. Cos even just through, like, other brands that you might already have in your wardrobe.
C
Yeah, of course.
A
I'm looking at you, Little Miss Polo over there. Add a pencil skirt and off she trots.
C
Actually, Annika makes a really good point. Prep's a really easy one to replicate from your own wardrobe.
B
Yeah.
C
You might just have any old jumper. Might be a noo noo. Might be something that is in cashmere or like a knit. And it's just instead of wearing it just kind of like chucked on like you normally would, throw it around your shoulders, tie it around your waist. These are all the underpins of preppy styling.
B
Yeah.
C
One last one that we have to leave on everybody's mood board that's super easy to recreate, but again is sitting in the ouchie on the bank balance territory is Miu Miu. The boat shoes, the mini skirts, they've almost gone into, like, a little bit of, like, a nautical category. For this season, though, like, we've got, like, it's looking a little bit wet weather, like, where's your fish? But it's really cute. And again, Miu Miu is such a prolific brand at the moment that all of the high street brands are ripping Mew mew off so you can really get the look for less. And I love that.
B
Do you know what I love about it too, is it still feels preppy, but it's got a modern take. Like, the skirt's not a pencil skirt, it's a mini. Or the shirt does feel really preppy and tailored, but it's cropped. Like, there's like 10% cool attached to it.
C
You can do all that stuff yourself, though. And I do it all the time now. I'm really into cropped. I never used to Be it's because I've been doing sit ups.
B
I've got me in the gym.
C
But you can go and do all that stuff yourself.
B
Yeah.
C
If not, take it to a tailor. You know, it'll cost you about 50 bucks. Yeah. If you're confident enough with the sewing machine or you don't mind a raw edge hem, you know, grab out a pair of scissors and cut the shirt into a crop. There's nothing wrong with that at all.
A
I'm so happy you guys are saying crops are back because we're getting to the point in my pregnancy where, like, the belly is going to be so out, the tops are getting smaller. I am like, let's do it.
B
You've got no other choice. I've got the most random final contribution here, and this feels like the trend I can probably give the most on. And this is actually another male Joe Jonas. I don't know how I fell on Jojo in shock.
C
Random. Okay, you've been watching Camp Rock. No.
B
I will say Beck and I walked past him in New York, and maybe, like, a cosmic connection rubbed off. I don't know why. I also didn't know how short he was, but, you know, pop off shulking. I'm five' three. I'm not here to judge. He, like, is coming up on my TikTok for you page all the time now. And he wore this really great, like, green rib jumper, a little shirt underneath, a tie. And then the other week, I saw Naima, who's our head of socials in the office, and I was like, you look great. And I couldn't pinpoint, like, where I'd seen her look. And she was like, I'm cosplaying that Joe Jonas look.
A
And I was like, I've seen it.
B
On my TikTok for you guys. But obsessed, like, also, like, hot obsessed with Joe Jonas.
C
I didn't realize that we had teleported back to 2004, but, like, here we are.
B
They're doing a Camp Rock 3, so you better believe we'll be doing a watch night. All right. Trend five is sheer romance, fringes and volumes. I've been seeing so much of this executed in a contemporary way. Anika, you've been seeing this with some of your designers. Why don't you kick it off?
A
I would love to, honestly. We are seeing so much of this coming through our resort collections, which are launching into stores now. And I'm talking sheer tops, romantic lace bubble hems, beaded fringe detailing, and a lot of volume. And the brands, one of Others who's Aussie and Harris Tapper who are Kiwi definitely come to mind. Leading the way in this trend. Elliot, what practical advice would you give our listeners if they want to dabble into this trend, but just don't know where to start?
C
Start small and start neutral.
A
Oh, I like that.
C
So I actually almost find this. This kind of sheer romance is like what is like the new age Australiana for me. Yeah. I feel like back in the day, people would affiliate this trend with someone like a Zimmerman, and now there's so many different adaptations. That aesthetic can be quite overwhelming.
A
Yeah.
C
And it takes a very specific taste. So I would start with something as simple as, say, a plain white blouse.
A
Yeah.
C
And something that, you know, that you could integrate back into something in your wardrobe across both day and night. So a plain white blouse in, like, a frill or fringe detail could easily go back with your favorite denim.
A
Yeah.
C
But then in the evening, you could pull back with, say, a black or a white trouser with a great pump. And then you'll get enough versatility out of that piece.
A
Yeah. Gorgeous.
C
But when you're experimenting with any new trend, it's important to ask yourself about three to five different occasions in where you can see yourself integrating that into your wardrobe.
A
So good.
C
And into your calendar.
A
Yeah.
C
So if you know that you can pick up that beautiful plain white fringe blouse and say, I could wear that to a friend's baby shower, a cocktail party for the Christmas period. And a day. Christmas day. And a day. There you go. There's four then. Perfect. Grab it and go for it, because you're gonna get your money's worth. And you're also going to feel like you can then start to experiment further with that trend.
A
Definitely. I've actually been loving seeing so much texture at the moment, and I feel like people are doing it in a really fun way. Talking about myself, I just wore this entire full textured fringe dress to a black tie wedding.
C
So cool.
A
Okay. So this wedding gave the most. It was like the most beautiful elite wedding I've ever been to. And the brief was all black, so everyone had to wear all black. We were all very much decked out. And again, being pregnant, trying to find something that complemented and flattered my body was so hard. But this entire studio's dressing had the most beautiful low back. And then it was all just fringing head to toe. And so Harris Tapper have done, like, little tops that are quite similar. I've actually just seen Rome, another Australian brand, do, like, a really beautiful halter dress and the color that you're wearing. Elliot in powder blue. So stunning. But people are playing with the textures and I think it's a really nice thing to do.
B
Some other great Australian brands that are doing fringe really well as well, or Tassel Is Clear are doing some really beautiful stuff. They did a gorgeous little fringing top and a dress as well. And a way more affordable version of that is Verge Girl, who I got a sneaky peek at their upcoming lookbook and they've done a really cute black top and skirt combo. I don't know that I could commit personally to that as I, like, delve into this trend, but I think with denim, I could definitely play with like the fun and the utilitarian part of denim. Okay, next we're going to get some of Annika and Elliot's best styling summer advice. But that is going to be right after a word from today's sponsor. Christmas will be here before we know it, so if you're hosting at yours or heading to a friend's, this is a PSA to get your drinks sorted. Now, to make life easier, the expert team at Dan Murphy's are across what's new in store and what everyone is obsessing over when it comes to beer, wine, spirits and RTD's. Just download the Dan Murphy's app to scroll their pics and ask in store and remember to choose to drink wise. Thank you so much to Dan Murphy's for making this episode of Stylish Podcast. Possible. All right, so now that we've covered what the trends are going to be, I'd love to get both of your top tips for summer styling. It's really easy to buy into trends we've all been guilty of adding to cart or walking past the mannequin and going, great, I'll just get whatever, you know, no name in the window is wearing. But what are those great tips you have for people being able to go to the items in their wardrobe and things that, you know, they already own and style from there?
C
My biggest thing for styling in the summer actually comes down to fabrication. I'm a sweater.
B
Yeah, me too.
C
There it is on the record.
A
Me too.
C
I am a schwitzer and there is no two ways around it. So I want to leave. The advice that I would wish that I had heard myself was that the fabrications that you think are great for summer sometimes aren't. Yeah, like silk is not a breathable fabric. Albeit we were just talking about silk slip dresses. Depends on, you know, the ultimate climate, how much you tolerate hot weather. If you're a sweater, avoid silk.
B
Yeah.
C
And lean into things like linens, linen blends, cottons, as many natural fibres as you possibly can.
B
Yeah.
C
Breathable fabrics for me are the best place to start when styling for summer. You can elevate them with great accessories.
A
Totally. I love that. And even actually saw in your notes as well, Aliya, which I love. A coord. A cohort is so easy to feel put together and chic. And again, if you don't want to feel too pajama like dressing, you can wear them as separate. So you get that great cost per wear.
C
Yeah.
A
But I love to kind of dress up all of my summer pieces, which are really those throw on pieces with cute accessories. I feel like this trend is so done, but I'm bringing it back anyway. This summer will be like my little raffia hat. Like, I love a cowboy hat.
C
And also, babe, we live in the sunburnt country.
B
We do.
C
It is very important to be sun smart in Australia and making sure that you're looking sun smart as well as looking chic.
A
You were channeling Jo right now. Like, she would be so proud.
B
Is the chair dropping off?
C
Is this Jo's chair?
A
It's Joe's chair.
C
Oh, my God, I can feel the SPF creeping up. No. It is so easy to be irresponsible in the sun here. So making sure that you have a great sun hat. I'm about the Rafia cowboy. Even if it's just a big kind of, you know, standard sun hat. You can go as big as Charlotte and sex and see you two on the back. Oh, no. Sex and sea film. One of you want to, when she's inhaling the guac, trying not to sleep with the guy on the balcony next door. You know, that giant hat. So, like, it's literally as big as you want it to be. Babe, choose your own adventure.
A
I love it. And this is actually probably the one time of year that I will experiment and play with printing color. Like, you will rarely see me in color or print, but Soleil, Soleil, which is actually a brand I represent, they kill it for a reason at this time of year because it's all about resort dressing. Their fabrics are lightweight and breathable and all of their pieces are actually like hand painted artwork. So you can get really, really special in their prints. But you can do a pareo, so it covers obviously of your swim. You can do it as a little tie top or you can even do a bout trend over a slip dress, which can be really Cool.
C
Great point. Because one thing I do want to say about the summer period as well is that a lot of people are hesitant to accessorize due to the heat. Especially when you get into like January and February.
A
Totally.
C
And I don't want people to do that. Just reconsider. You know, you can wear a really lightweight trench or a beautiful lightweight shirt and then a trouser. So don't just think because the weather's getting warmer that you necessarily have to let go of feeling your most stylish self.
A
Definitely.
C
Just reconsider the pieces that you're pulling and out and rethink the relationship that you have with clothing. Coats aren't necessarily just for winter. The fabrications in which they are manufactured are specific to winter.
A
Yeah.
C
So buy your spring summer coats. Buy your other spring summer accessories. You know, you might even see somebody on the nights can still be kind of cool this time of the year as well. Beautiful, lightweight scarf is absolutely stunning to take you from day to night. Very effortless. So rethink your accessory fabrication, not necessarily your accessory function.
A
Love that. There we go.
B
One thing I would love to ask you both about is what fucking shoes are we wearing in summer? Because honestly, I'm like, all I want to do is pop on like my little hubbies. They're back.
C
Ladies first. They're back.
A
But do you know what, speaking of the fisherman trend that you touched on earlier, all fishy fishy. I feel like we spoke about this a while ago. Meds and the fisherman trend is the best way to kind of lean in. Wear your little boat shoes. Wear like those super cute kind of tie rope sandals. Love flip flops. Always. It's so easy.
C
Flops, always. And there's been a massive amount of information that's come out in my trend forecasting over the eight weeks that has just passed that the Havocs are really kind of. They're coming for the summer.
B
Yeah.
C
Now we've all grown up with them and so we're like, what? But if you wear them with the right thing.
A
Yeah.
C
Like just Google Kendall Jenner. Google Hailey Bieber. If you guys are looking for inspiration, you're like, how the hell am I wearing a pair of flip flops? Yeah. Those girls have done the job for you. Yeah. Jump on Pinterest and start pinning.
B
Yeah.
C
And also just when, again, I can't stress fabrication importance enough. Summer versus winter. A leather thong, leather flip flop, whatever you'd like to call them, even a suede is a really elevated piece of footwear to take you from beach to Bar or day to night as well.
B
Yeah.
C
Again, it just comes back down to that fabrication. The rubber is obviously going to be more daytime and more casual. The leather or the suede is great summer evening option.
B
Yeah, Love that we love. Okay. And the one thing we haven't spoken about, which I would die if we didn't, is summer glam. Like, hello. If you want to still look put together in summer and your hair goes the minute that you like leave into humidity, you're looking at fun soft pony, a good wave. The pre and post styling treatment is very necessary. I'm really into at the moment things that are high maintenance that make life low maintenance. So for me, I love a blowout. Like we know. I love a little Sabrina Carpenter moment.
C
But try Blair Waldorf.
B
Yeah. Okay. Thank you. You're like with a love of preppy and dark brown hair. I think you picked the wrong celebrity pick. But I'm gonna get keratin. Cause I'm like, I wanna be able to still wear my hair down in summer without looking like a schwitzing pig with like hair blown out. Looking more like Hagrid than Blair Waldorf.
C
Yeah.
B
So I just think with makeup and with hair, being really conscious of the climate as well. Like, don't do a beat in the middle of summer.
C
Like, very, very, very true.
B
Yeah. Minimal makeup, having, you know, your little blotting sheets nearby, having a great setting powder, all of those things I feel like in a total look are just as important as what you're wearing.
C
Hey, what's been really two products, just from a beauty perspective that I absolutely love for the high summer months. One is Rhode Hailey Bieber's. Obviously everyone knows Rhode Hailey Bieber's brand has released a new shade in their pocket blushes called Tan Line. Exceptional, Exceptional shade. Especially for somebody who doesn't necessarily want too much time in the sun.
A
Yeah.
C
Just gives you that really beautiful sun kissed glow. Looks like you've been on the beach all day. Obviously it's not available in Australia, so it makes it difficult for the girlies. But I am obsessed with this brand called Made by Mitchell. You can buy it at Atomica, but also online at asos. They are called the Curve Case. They come in a light, medium and a deep shade. And it's a full face palette. Five bronzers, five blushes. No concealer though, so you always need to conceal on the side. But guys, one of the best makeup products I've ever used. I am a YouTube beauty junkie, as Mads knows. I literally spend my entire downtime watching beauty tutorials. What like that 2019 drama. Best year of my life. Jeffrey Star versus James Charles versus Tani Westbrook. I might bring it back.
B
I'm so glad that we got to share this character arc about you because I don't think think that a lot of people know like people know you like to be in glam, but I don't think people know your depth of knowledge. Like I looked after makeup at Mecca for a year and I still go in store with you and find out more from you than I probably know myself having looked after all of those brands. Like it is not uncommon to be at Elliot's and him be like, you don't have enough flush on carries you upstairs and is like, you know a bit of this and you should be doing a red undertone. Don't you know all the Victoria's Secret girls are doing a red undertone and you're like, like, fuck. Okay. Yes, I know the thing.
C
Look, if I'm going to give Stylish the exclusive, I think that I might go on the record and say I think I prefer beauty to fashion. Oh my God, you guys. Oh my gosh. No, I honestly, I love it. I love, I just love beauty. I love it. I love product, I love products. I love the, the confidence that they give you and I think that when you get ultimately your look is 50 beauty and 50% fashion.
A
Yeah, I love that.
C
So enjoy both. You don't have to compromise one for the other.
B
All right, so now we're talking about the trends. We've spoken about styling tips for what to do in the summ and how to kind of incorporate it all together with what we own in our wardrobes. But if we are wanting to spend a little bit, maybe we got the spend ease. Maybe we're online shopping or we want to add something to our wardrobe for summer. What are your go to brands to check out?
C
I love that you're like staring down the barrel at me being like, you got the Spendies. Wink. Might be online shopping. Wink, wink.
B
We were outside talking about the Victoria Beckham drops which we're all dying to try, but we were like I said, I just think I've lost touch with reality. If I could ever spend that on complexion Nelly goes, you're talking to the wrong person. I'm absolutely going to go buy them now. I've heard all this. But what summer brands are must visit, must jump online when we've got the Spendies.
C
I absolutely love cos. Yeah, I just love it cos is doing the Most when it comes to accessible luxury. Their Runway shows are exceptional. Their styling is sublime, their campaigns are amazing. And then they back it all up.
A
Yeah.
C
With incredible quality at an amazing price point. Yeah. So everybody listening. Go to cos best basics.
A
It's so true.
C
Tees, denim, a little bits and bobs, little tchotchke. And also if you're willing to actually go and have a little faff about great accessories, you can get some great.
B
Earrings, great jewelry, good bags too. Can I love cos. Can I give a fun tidbit about cos they actually came up to top 10 in lists index of most hype brands.
C
Love that. Yeah, they did.
B
They're like sitting amongst like Louisville, Prada, Miu Miu.
A
Like, huge.
C
Yeah, yeah, they're right up.
B
Saint Laurent was lucky number one, wasn't it?
C
They're right up there. Annika, what about you?
A
Okay, so you've done polished minimal, which I absolutely love. I'm going to drop in some fun, playful brands, but posse, I am seen everywhere, you guys. And I think as well, they do trend, but they do fem in such a beautiful way that's still palatable and not too expensive for a bit of colour and fun. With Harpalo Verge, Girl With Jean. I just feel like these brands are so fun. Australians are known for their quintessential Australian summer. And if you want to lean into the colors, the prints and that kind of like, I guess the ethos of who we are, those brands do it really well in a fun way.
C
I definitely agree. It's so funny. I need to start recommending brands that aren't necessarily to my own personal aesthetic. Yeah. But like, with Harper Louis, a great call. Yeah, I totally agree with that. I've not personally worked with them before, but, like, if you want that quintessential summer fun, you, like, just want to be like, sipping a cocktail and watching the sun go down. Like with Harper's giving you that Chuck a bit of body oil on.
A
Yeah.
C
Sexy gorge.
A
Oh, I'm already thousand percent. They're honestly like the definition right now of like hot girl shit.
C
Yeah.
A
Like, we just love it.
B
You know who I'm loving as well? I actually stopped someone because I was like, elliot will love this because I love a clocky meal. But I was like, where are your clocky meals from? And I know that we've spoken about them, about their sizing and the issues that came about their rebrand, but some of the product that's coming out of witchery at the moment is really good and I think they're doing a really good job of it being super minimal. Maybe it's for that minimalist like me, who is a bit monochromatic and kind of playing in the safe zone, coming in into just like soft lemons and, you know, Burgundies and things like that. Burgundy, obviously not for summer, but soft lemons and soft pastels. I'm like, yeah, it's a nice little Runway from a minimalist perspective into some of the trends we've spoken about as well. That's like not going to break the bank.
A
Yeah, nice.
C
There's a retailer that I've stumbled across recently as well. So we're not giving brand specifics, but they have bricks and mortar stores in both Sydney and Melbourne. Then of course, they have an E commerce platform.
B
Yeah.
C
And I highly recommend everyone to check out above the Clouds.
A
Oh, yes.
C
So good for summer.
A
Yeah.
C
I think I might be late to the party, so apologies for those listening who have already stumbled across and have now become avid shoppers. But great stuff for summer. And some brands that I personally love to shop at the moment that I integrate into my own wardrobe are erl, which is a American brand out of Venice beach in California, and then Cherry, which is a brand based out of la. So if you like that kind of classic Americana with a twist, ARL's actually even got a bit of a surf vibe. Great for summer. Really fun brands to check out too.
B
Cherry is fucking great.
C
You know how much I love cherry. You know how much I love cherry.
B
I'm giving you the credit where it's Cherry.
C
I love Cherry. But they're all now in above the Clouds. So previously these brands you had to buy only online from the States. You never had the opportunity to touch and feel. Whereas now, if you want to go and do it and you're a listener based in Melbourne or Sydney, highly recommend going to check them out for the summer.
A
Love that.
B
Right, do we have any bonus ones for accessories? Shoes. I mean, Tony B, obviously we love.
C
Tony B. I mean, Tony B's are fail safe. You can't go wrong. Yeah, like very, very easy. But you know what?
A
You guys hurt me.
C
Here's a styling secret tip. I was at Big W the other day.
A
Yeah, yeah.
C
And they've ripped off the Royal Jellies. Now, I know that they might be six months late to the party, but hey, I'll turn a blind eye if the girlies want to rock them out for 13 bucks.
B
Yep, great, because that's a steal.
C
The OG ones were about ten times that price.
B
You have given Us so many swaps today. Like we didn't even need to worry about you voice noting me asking what the hell to bring in. But I'm glad it wasn't your childhood Blanket. That's all I'm gonna say.
C
Okay, that is a bitchiest move. Don't speak about Blanket James like that. Blanket James Garneau is quietly at home waiting to listen to this in a few days time.
B
Oh my good. James Gunnar is going to be thrilled that he's had a mention.
A
Guys, we need to see this blanket.
C
Like, no, that's blanket doesn't.
B
No, no, no. It's a non existent blanket. Honestly, guys, I have had so much fun. I'm so excited for our listeners to listen to this episode because I feel like a little sponge listening to the two of you. I only imagine they'll feel the exact same. But thank you so much for being with us today. Elliot, like, you know how much we love you personally. Not only is your advice valuable, but you're also an absolute scream. So it's a pleasure to have you.
C
No, guys, I'm actually devastated that this is already over.
A
I know.
C
That was so much fun. And also, like to Annika, like, I just love listening to the pod and I just love absorbing your information. And so for me, as a professional in the fashion industry, I really respect what you have to say. So to be able to sit with you in the room today and absorb all that was super cool.
A
Elliot, you know I'm hormonal. I might copy.
C
So thank you so much for having me. And if I ever am invited back, we're all doing swaps. But irl, like I want you to, you can keep my glossier lip balm, but I want one of your brushes.
A
Can we do something really fun?
C
We can do a swap swap.
A
Can we do. Okay, so the next time Elliot's coming back because you're coming back, we all have to style each other and we all have to do it together.
C
Oh, my God.
A
Then we will come back as each person's like, I'm obsessed.
B
Well, I'm going to come looking like Jacob Elordi. I want to wear a head to toe Mew mew Jacob. If you're listening, it just makes sense. Also, if you haven't checked out, it should have been our bonus top at the top of the episode. Elliot is so authentically himself and listening to him on no utes in the valet is honestly such a joy. And the minute we did face to face, it felt like a click moment that he always was supposed to be on a podcast. So my bonus swap is to go and check it out because it's bloody brilliant. And I met Isaac a couple of months ago and was talking to him like I knew him and then realized we'd never actually met. So the guys are such a brilliant dynamic. And I know it might feel like a bit left of center to go and listen to an AFL footballer, but Elliot will hold your hand and guide you over there. They are so great. So check it out. But that's all for us today. If you think of anything you want to say to us or you've got a recommendation or you just want another swap from Elliot, please do remember, you can email us anytime@style-ishameless media.com or you can always slide over into the DMS. Thank you very much to our shameless media team, head of podcast Lucy Hunt. We, we always love having you in the studio. And senior podcast producer Kate Emmerberg will be right back with you next Wednesday. Bye.
C
Ciao.

Cohorts (matching sets) are your friend for mix-and-match versatility.

Rafia hats/cowboy hats are both practical and stylish for the Aussie sun.
Lightweight Layers:
Don’t abandon layers—consider lighter trench coats or shirts for cool evenings.
