The insidious power of cults

Why do people join groups based around coercion and control, including people who we think should know better? At the Festival of Dangerous Ideas later this month there will be a discussion on cults, and the lead speaker is journalist Anke Richter whose 2022 book Cult Trip went right inside some of the world’s most insidious cults. Anke is also a foreign correspondent based in New Zealand and is the founder and convenor of Decult - an annual conference on “cult education for professional networks and survivor support”.
