You're not in a cave today. As a matter of fact, I am in lovely cold Buffalo, New York, where Buffalo Bills and the Tampa Bay Bucks are going to kick off at one o' clock in one of the many good games on a pretty good slate of NFL action. This is Matt Myron on ESPN Radio presented by Progressive Insurance. You can be a part of Matt and Meyer nation on the Dr. Pepper call in line. That's 8-88- say ESPN 888-729-3776. We're presented by Dr. Pepper. It's not college football season without the delicious taste of an ice cold Dr. Pepper. It's college football. It's a Pepper thing. What are we thinking about?
Herm Edwards
Trying to think. But nothing happens.
Matt Myron
Nothing happens.
Myron
Time to find out.
Matt Myron
This is off the top Flash off.
Myron
The top with Matt and Myron.
Matt Myron
We are off the top with Mat and I'm in Buffalo. I'm at the Big Tree Inn, one of the historic bars around Buffalo. Build stadium in Orchard Park. This was built in 1950 and I'm excited to go to my first ever Bills game. The Bills mafia is all around. Wish you were here, Myron. It's a, it's a very cool place.
Myron
Yeah. If you see Thurman Thomas man or Bruce Smith, tell him I said hello. Buffalo Bill is one of my favorite teams growing up despite some of the super bowl losses. Are there tables in the bar? Like, are they, do you see tables anywhere? Are they going through tables yet?
Matt Myron
Yeah, I think that we've had that conversation with people here. I don't think they like that. Like, I think it's kind of like, I don't think they like that. That's the stereotype apparently. That's one lot on one side and there's a couple people that do it. But a lot of these people, they just wear the, they wear the big old, I call them Viking hats, but they're the big tall furry hats right they wear those. That's the thing. You can buy them outside. You want to know how much a furry Buffalo Bills hat, how much you think it cost? One of those big tall ones.
Myron
I mean, it's buffalo with $19, $20, $185. That's crazy.
Matt Myron
And everybody's got one. Everybody's got one. They're everywhere. So it is. But the people are the nicest in this stadium. It's like when we went to the packers stadium. It's in a neighborhood. It's just in, like, they're just houses. It's just a neighborhood. And I just find that a really cool. It's like an old school, non corporate kind of cool atmosphere.
Myron
Well, I think, like, Green Bay and Buffalo, like, you're never going to see franchises in those cities again. Like, cities like that ever again. You know, like, that was a time. And it's cool that they've kind of held on to that legacy. Small town feel. It's not a bad stereotype, by the way, to crash through tables. I think people love it. Like, stereotype implies something negative. Everyone I know sees those guys jumping on tables. It sees it as sort of an extension of the identity of that fan base.
Matt Myron
Right. But I'm trying to think if there are other cities where the stereotype, like, might even be cool to people. But you're like, you know, that's enough. You don't have to. Like, it'd be like, if you can't. Like, I love bluegrass music, but if you come to Kentucky and everybody's like, where's your banjo, Matt? I'd like to hear you pick a little. And I'm like, come on, man. We don't all just play banjos. Like, we got other things going on. I think maybe that's what they are. Like, we don't all go through tables.
Myron
Yeah, no, that. And that's fair. I also want to hear more about these $180 hats, and I want to see who's wearing them because somebody in there didn't pay 180. There's. There's some. There's some. There's Some$17 hats you can order online. I'm sure that look just like those.
Matt Myron
That may be true. But when you. I just think when you watch a Bills game from now on and you're watching in the game and you see somebody with that hat on, just think, that cost that person $180. Also, when I see him, I think, I'd hate to have that person sitting in front of me at the Game with their big tall.
Myron
Yeah. What's the rules on that? What are the rules? Do you get to. Do you get to ask them to take it off? Like, what's the rule?
Matt Myron
I think you got it. I think you got to ask them to take it off. But I'm looking forward to it.
Myron
I.
Matt Myron
Very rare. This is the first time in Buffalo. I got these folks right here. Y' all got to hear me all day. I'm sorry, this is not. This is national radio on espn, but I'm in. I'm sitting next to you. They look like nice fol. Admiring. We're ready to do a little NFL action. Let's start with college football, though. Yesterday. Biggest comeback in the history of the SEC. Never been a bigger one. 30 to 3, SC against Texas A and M at halftime. And by the start of the fourth quarter, it was 31, 30. And Mike Elko. And A and M come back. Shane Beamer, another South Carolina collapse. What'd you make of that performance that keeps A and M undefeated?
Myron
Well, I mean, what I paid attention to was a lot of people in the SEC saying, like, this is what South Carolina does. Cause I saw the score. I mean, yeah, I was at an event. I saw the score 33, and I thought it was a typo. Like, I thought it was somebody messed up the scoreboard. And to know that it was real and then that they gave that up. A lot of people I saw were like, if you don't know about South Carolina, this is the story of South Carolina football. I didn't know what that meant.
Matt Myron
If you don't know, now you know, right? I mean, that is South Carolina. They have. They have close calls that end up in sad losses. But I thought this one was particularly amazing. First of all, it's 30 to 3 at halftime. As Shane Beamer walks off the field, he sees all these South Carolina fans, and he starts waving his arms in the air. He's basically already celebrating the game. He's like, here we go. Here we go. Gamecocks. Here we go. And everybody's going nuts. And then by the time the fourth quarter starts, they're already behind. I mean, that's an image that will haunt that guy probably for the rest of his career.
Myron
Coaches never really do that, right? I mean, they may give. No, they don't fist pump or something like that. Shane Beamer did. Like, he's running for office. Like, almost like a campaign kind of.
Matt Myron
We're gonna come to College Station. Like, that's like.
Myron
It was so odd, man. Like, you would have thought they'd won the game at that point by what he was doing, and it was still halftime. And then they lost it, so.
Matt Myron
And then they lose. And then. So Texas A and M remains undefeated. What did you think of the cop in the. The cop that rubbed against the South Carolina players and then was like, hey, what are you doing? That was. That was kind of a stereotypical. Like, if you're watching a movie and you see a jerk cop in the movie, that's what they would do.
Myron
Well, I'm glad. I'm glad they pulled him from the game. I hope he never works another game.
Matt Myron
They have already work any more games.
Kevin Clark
Yeah.
Shopify Ad Voice
But.
Myron
Yeah, the scary thing for me is, like, okay, everyone was there. You know, you had all these people in the stadium. You had cameras, so they caught it. But those guys lucked out, man. You know, So I felt. I hated that those young men had to be the ones to de. Escalate that situation when it should have been the officer who did that. And, you know, it should go even beyond that, in my opinion. I'm glad a lot of people responded to that, because, man, what if those. My thing was, what if one of those young guys would have been like, hey, man, you know what? It's like, match that officer's energy, and now you got a whole situation that that officer started, man. So I'm glad, people.
Matt Myron
It's also fair to say, like, you see that if he was. If he did that in front of all those people and he does it with the cameras on, what do people do when the camera's not on?
Myron
Right?
Matt Myron
Like, I mean, that's the kind of thing that. That's the kind of thing that is probably frustrating to a lot of folks. It was interesting, though. I mean, give the players credit. They kind of let it go. He was sitting there, you know, he was sitting there yelling at him.
Herm Edwards
It was.
Matt Myron
It was. It. It was an embarrassing situation that could have gotten a lot worse.
Myron
I felt the same way about that situation in Louisville with the. The PGA thing. Everybody knows that. Everyone I guarantee, in the department knows that. Texas cop. And I guarantee when they saw the video, everybody in the Texas Police Department said, yep. Nobody was surprised, I bet, because I'm.
Matt Myron
Sure that's the Louisville Police Department. I can just tell you in the Louisville Police Department, they, like, there were group texts and they guessed who it was before it even happened. It was like they knew. They knew which guy was. I'm sure the same thing at that stadium. You know, the rest of the officers were up there. He goes again. So, but, but they get the win. AM is now undefeated. Then Alabama loses at home later that night, their 17 game winning streak at home goes away. The SEC is completely up in the air. Only A and M controls their destiny. Everybody else needs help in order to make the championship game. They've already, it's already shown that, that we won't know who's in the SEC championship game until the final week of the season. That's what you want though, don't you, myron?
Myron
In a 16 team now you, you want that. And obviously Georgia put itself in a better position just winning after Alabama loss. Oklahoma helped itself. You're seeing all this play out. I don't know if you saw what happened after the game at Oklahoma. Alabama, but a bunch of Oklahoma players took a photo on the Alabama half field at the 50 yard line. Kind of image and a bunch of Alabama people were upset with them.
Matt Myron
Yes, you get to do them. Yeah, I mean I, yeah, you, yes, you get to do that. Like you're. First of all, it's in part like nobody takes a picture after they beat Mississippi State in the center of the field. Like it's a testament to who you are at Alabama that they want to take the picture. But if you don't want them to take the picture, here's an answer. When it's the same thing going back all the way to when Baker planted the flag in, in Columbus. If you don't want it to happen, beat them. So I have no problem with taking a picture. I think it would have been okay if they all put on one of those Bear Bryant hats and danced around with an elephant. I'd have been fine with it too. You, if you don't want that to happen, beat him now. Don't do what Shane Bieber did and celebrate it. Halftime. Wait till after the game and then you get to do it.
Myron
Yeah, there was a whole like some, some Alabama officials or people around the 50 yard line who were trying to push him away. Officials. Well, just people. People on the field were pushing him away. But listen, you get to do that and you got to do that if you're Alabama.
Matt Myron
Yeah, you get to do that. That's the way it goes. You beat, you beat Kentucky and Rupp arena, you get to sit at half court, right? You, you go, you beat Duke and Cameron, you get to do the same thing. And that's what ends up happening at Alabama. I am at the Big Tree inn in Buffalo, New York. Technically Myron Orchard Park, New York. It's actually 20, 30 minutes away from Buffalo.
Myron
Did you know that people realize. Yeah, yeah, I've been up there.
Matt Myron
Yeah, it's, it's. Oh, you've been, you've been to one of these games.
Myron
I've been a game. I've been there to see the stadium. I was in Buffalo for an event once.
Matt Myron
Well, we, we will be here with you all morning. Bucks and Bills tonight. We got a lot of other stuff to get to, including there were a lot of news around the Giants this week. They get rid of a head. Jameis Winston is at quarterback. Everybody's excited about that. We'll deal with that and more here on Matt Myron on the Road on ESPN Radio.

It is Matt Myron here on ESPN Rad we are I am in Buffalo at the Big Tree in Myron is In Minneapolis, where we are ready to go to get you excited for all the NFL games. There already is an NFL game, Myron, that has started today in Madrid. The Dolphins and the commanders. The NFL continues to send the best of the best overseas and in Madrid today they get Dolphins commanders. It is kicked off. The Dolphins lead six to three. Are you enjoying this game this morning?
Myron
Yeah, no, I mean I actually saw the time now. I just don't know what Madrid gives us in return. But no, it's, it's a soccer stadium game and a lot of different jerseys in the stands.
Matt Myron
I don't like that about you, by the way. A characteristic I don't like about you is that you, you like have this belief that we can't go somewhere unless we get something back. Like this is not like we can be giving. This is not a make America, you know, only get everything like we need to be able to. We can give them football. We don't have to get a return on our investment.
Myron
That's one way to see it. I just, you know, I thought I'd be getting like Real Madrid tickets to a game in L. A or something like that to me.
Matt Myron
What'd you say? What did you say?
Myron
Real Madrid. Real Madrid, I think. Is that what you call Real Madrid? I think it's. Is that the Anthony over there?
Matt Myron
Real? It's not real. You sound, you're the one that sounds like you're from the sticks. We get rail maduria tickets.
Myron
I thought that's how they said it. Rail, Rail. They say reality. Is that what you said?
Matt Myron
Okay, don't, don't do that. It's real. You say it real and yeah, you don't get those. Matt Myer presented by Progressive Insurance. It's the keys to progress program. Gifting cars to veteran owned small businesses. That's what we do at Progressive Insurance. By the way, I had someone come up to me yesterday this true story stranger at the UK football pregame show and go, I love listening to you and Myron. I feel like you give him two hardest time and I, it actually had me questioning myself.
Myron
Well, I mean before the show you listed about 50 things you didn't like about me. You know, I know you said on the show you like there's one. But before the show it was like Matt had a list and was just going through the list, you know, so.
Matt Myron
He'S one of my, my favorite people named mine now the New York Giants fired coach Brian Dall on Monday.
Myron
After.
Matt Myron
The team lost another double digit game in Chicago on Sunday. They Got rid of him. They did, however, keep the gm, which was a little bit surprising to people. I mean, it's not. It's not a shock that he's gone. I mean, once. Once Jackson Dart got hurt, it actually kind of made sense. Joe Shane, though, will remain the general manager and he will pick the new head coach. Were you surprised about that?
State Farm Ad Voice
Yeah.
Myron
I mean, but usually owners in that situation don't want to have to deal with the next situation. So you don't have to hire a GM and a coach, but it's a mess out there. I think the Brian Dabon situation is an example of why you never want to fire a coach too late. Like, everybody knew he was going to get fired this year at some point. Why not fire him after last season? Then you actually get a new guy in place. You don't have to deal with this. Jackson Dart has a coach who can. He can assume will be there for the years to come. And now you got your rookie quarterback who looks like he can be a young star going through his second coach in his second year. I mean, that's a mess.
Matt Myron
Part of the reason I think you would do that is if you think you're gonna fire him. I think you really would want your new coach to get to pick his quarterback. Right. Because you're gonna have to pick a new coach who as part of the job is going to have to believe in Jackson Dart. And maybe there's reason to do it.
Myron
Right.
Matt Myron
But what if there's not? What if they don't want to build their career around Jackson Dart now? They have to. They don't have a choice. They're going to have to build it around Jackson Dart. And I just think you want to quarterback is such a key part of whatever coach is going to succeed that I think saying here we're going to pick this guy who may be a little bit of a lame duck, and then he's going to pick the quarterback and then he may be gone. You end up with a good. Exactly the situation you got right here.
Myron
Yeah, it's a mess. Right. And honestly, I think it's unfair to Jackson Dart, you know, because all he's trying to do is play. Obviously he's dealing with the concussion situation right now. You always tell me about Tim Couch and how his development was impacted in Cleveland by not having a good system around.
Matt Myron
Couch would have been a good quarterback. He just got picked in the worst situation ever. He got picked by an expansion team. And the rules back then were even worse for expansion teams than they are Now. And so I think he was destined to fail.
Myron
Yeah. And he's one of many examples of. Of guys who maybe the talent was there, there was a ceiling, but not enough people around them to put them in that position.
Matt Myron
So now in Houston was the same way. He was the first pick for them, and it was the same situation.
Myron
If you're Jackson Dart, you got to be going, okay? You're getting coached by a guy everybody knows gonna get fired now someone new is coming in. You hope they believe in you. It just sets the franchise back. You have to fire Brian Nabal last off season.
Matt Myron
I agree. One of the interesting things to me, and we've seen this in the last two years, this reemergence. Reemergence of guys who seem like failures that when they got in a different situation, all of a sudden look different. Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold and Daniel Jones. And when you see those guys go somewhere else and have not just successful, but have real success, like next level success, all of those guys have now won, you know, not just had good seasons, have had great regular seasons. We'll see what happens in the playoffs for all those guys. But you do wonder. All of them were abject failures in their initial spots. And it makes you wonder, Myron, if there are more of these guys out there who, if they just got in the right spot, you could have completely different careers than what they end up having.
Myron
I mean, Sam Donald, the last couple years between Minnesota and Seattle, after being with the jets and the teams he was with, no 100%. I think for a lot of these guys, the culture around them matters, the people around them matters, the locker room, the guys you mentioned now going to really good organizations. And I think that's a factor. That's why I think with Jackson Dart, there's a world, Matt, where we may never know what Jackson Dart can become if they don't get this next higher right. If he ends up being a guy who's got multiple coordinators and multiple coaches at the start of his career, and then people are going, well, Jackson Dart was never well. Look at the mess he's in that really the Giants put him in. I don't think it's fair to him.
Matt Myron
Jameis Winston now, however, does get to be the quarterback, at least in the short term, which means you get Jameis Winston sound, which is some of the great stuff in life. And this was Jameis Winston when asked about getting to play quarterback in the greatest city in the world, New York.
Myron
I want fans to know that I'm.
Matt Myron
Going to do my best. You know, obviously I'm going to have fun, but I'm going to execute, have a surgical execution and just, and just play ball, man.
Myron
Like, this is something I've been doing since I've been four years old, and I just get to do it in.
Matt Myron
The greatest city in the world. I'm gonna be saying it with my son. It's the greatest city in the world. Yeah. That's a Hamilton reference, if y' all don't know. 10 year reunion. It's a Hamilton reference, in case you didn't know. How could you not love Jameis Winston and, and want him to succeed today?
Myron
I mean, somehow by being the cool uncle, he's extended his career by like five years. I feel like, you know, if he was just kind of a normal backup quarterback, I don't think he sticks around.
Matt Myron
Yeah.
Myron
You know, but he's a perfect example. Likable.
Matt Myron
If you're pleasant and likable, you will get to do a lot more things. You know what I mean? Like, you might as well be pleasant and likable. There's. If you. If. Unless you're an uber talent, don't be a jerk. But if you're going to be pleasant and likable, then they're going to bring you in to go. It's the greatest city in the world. I didn't get it was a Hamilton reference. Actually, at first I was glad he explained it, because then I understood. And I've seen it.
Myron
Davis. Davis is.
Matt Myron
Have you seen Hamilton?
Myron
I have. Not the movie. I've seen the, the. Not the Broadway version.
Matt Myron
Come on, you got to go see it in Broadway. You got to experience it just like Jameis Winston. And I bet, I bet I know somebody who has Coach Herm Edwards and he join us next. Oh, look at you. He knows somebody who produces it. Well, I only saw it. Myron knows the producers and Herm Edwards is next here on Matt Myon on ESPN Radio.

Podcast it is Matt Myron here on ESPN Radio. I am in Buffalo where there are lots of people with furry hats and Herm Edwards is joining us. Herm, I'm at the Big Tree Inn in Buffalo. You have played or coached in every stadium in the NFL. Where does Buffalo rank for you in terms of game day experiences?
Herm Edwards
Oh, it's got to be in the top five. Yeah, it's really, how would you, how.
Matt Myron
Would you rank the top five if you as Herman?
Herm Edwards
Oh boy. Yeah, somebody's gonna make me mad. Probably Green Bay would be one.
Matt Myron
Okay.
Herm Edwards
Right. Let me, I'm looking down the list here. Green Bay would be one.
Matt Myron
I mean, for me, I've not been everywhere. I think Green Bay is one. This for me looks like it's going to be a solid two. I would also say I, I think especially if they're good, the Kansas City experience is really good as well. Yeah. If you're just talking about anyone says experience.
Kevin Clark
Yes.
Herm Edwards
Chicago because of the history of it.
Matt Myron
Totally agree with that. Yes.
Myron
Yeah, definitely history of that.
Herm Edwards
I'll tell you one that used to be fun to go to and now they, they change venues. But the old RFK Stadium in Washington.
Matt Myron
Oh yeah, I went. That was fun. Now it's not.
Herm Edwards
My word was that fun walking into that place.
Matt Myron
Now it's weird because some of these are so sanitized like the Cowboys.
Myron
We got a bunch of domes.
Matt Myron
Should Be good. Yeah, but I think the dome, you know, Herm, I think they ruined kind of some of the atmosphere.
Herm Edwards
No, you're right. You know, another place too would. Here we go.
Matt Myron
I.
Herm Edwards
You gotta throw this up. Here we go. It's either Denver, Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh's tough place to play. Now when they say Pittsburgh Tiles going, yeah, it's tough.
Myron
You know, Herm, I would say if I were a commissioner, I would mandate domes with every new state. I'm like, I don't think we should build any more outdoor stadiums. I think if you have one, it's fine.
Matt Myron
You're insane.
Myron
I mean, football to me should be played outside when you can control the conditions.
Matt Myron
I'm with you. I totally agree with you. Myron is so boozy.
Herm Edwards
Let's worry about getting cold.
Matt Myron
No, the weather.
Myron
I don't want the weather to affect the game. What we saw in Kansas City a couple years ago with the 30 below, whatever, that shouldn't happen in a football game. That's not football out there. When you're thinking about the conditions to that degree, I want everything indoors.
Herm Edwards
But. But you don't get that many of those kind of games. But, but, but being out in the cold, I mean, when you're the Green Bay packers, you know, you used to. That wasn't. That's an advantage for you.
Matt Myron
Yes. And, you know, and you build your team around it.
Herm Edwards
That's exactly right. You build your team.
Matt Myron
You build guys for that kind of environment.
Herm Edwards
You know, when you. Same way was the Minnesota Vikings back in the day, when they used to play outside, then they got. Then they got a little bit. Bit soft and went inside. I mean, I don't know why they did that.
Matt Myron
And that's where he lives, and that's what's going on. Let me ask you a question here in Buffalo. Buffalo and Kansas City right now are in a very weird spot of being, you know, two best quarterbacks, two teams that have kind of dominated the AFC in the last few years, but both of them are not certain to make the playoffs. And both of them have games today against Tampa Bay and Denver where they better win. I mean, who's the most in danger to you, Herm? Is it Buffalo or Kansas?
Myron
Kansas City.
Herm Edwards
Oh, boy. But to me, it's probably Buffalo because of the fact.
Matt Myron
Why is that?
Herm Edwards
Because of their defense. They. They can't stop anybody, especially when people run the ball on them. They're not. They're not very big. And that's what people are starting to do, run the ball on them. And if they don't, you know, if they don't get an early lead, they're in trouble because people can just physically beat them up. And then Josh Allen, now he's getting cooks back, which helps him, but you know, he's a one man band for the most part. So I would say Buffalo coach, you.
Myron
Have an Eagles team that looks like they can win it again, but every single game, the storyline, it's not about winning, it's about AJ Brown. Jaylen Herz had to address it. A report came out today that the owner of the Eagles had to meet with A.J.
Matt Myron
Brown.
Myron
As a coach, how do you make sure that this isn't going to disrupt all your goals in the postseason when they in every game, it seems like A.J. brown's goal is to make himself the story.
Herm Edwards
Well, we saw this last year and I give this team credit. It just finds a way to continue to move on. They don't. It's almost like, yeah, he's doing his thing over there. We're not going to worry about him. Just don't get involved in it. Emotionally, he does what he does and these guys still find a way to win. Whether he catches three balls or he catches two touchdowns or he catches no balls, it's just keep trying to find ways to win. Now, I think this is a big test, this game for the Eagles, not offensively so much, but defensively, the back end of their defense, I mean, because the Detroit Lions can run the football. So that being coach, why isn't somebody.
Myron
Walking up to him? In your generation, why isn't somebody walking up to him and saying, listen, man, like, you're in or you're out? Like, why are we seeing those moments with a guy who is doing everything he can to really make the team look bad and feel well in the. Where's that moment?
Herm Edwards
Well, you know, I don't know. I really don't. And I think, you know, most of these guys, I've always said this, you know, like in life and even in sports now everybody's independent contractor. And with that being said, they're trying to promote themselves. And this team obviously is a team that has enough mental fortitude just to block all this out. They block the noise out great. I mean, any other team couldn't handle this and they're in Philadelphia, pretty big market. And these guys just find a way every week we don't pay attention to the guy, we just play.
Matt Myron
But how do you do that on a team? So like you, I'm sure you've had a diva, probably a wide Receiver on teams that. That sort of is a distraction. How does a team, you know, you want to bring them in line, but there's some guys. Maybe you just can't. Maybe A.J. brown is that guy. How do you do. How do you just ignore it as an organization and still focus on your goal? Because he's a part of what they do. They can't just.
Herm Edwards
I mean, this is when you, you know, on every team, you have a leadership group that the coach always brings together in certain situations before the season, off season to make sure that the coach understands. Where's my locker room at? I mean, they're not rats, but they'll let you know if something's happening in the locker room room where we can't control the coach. We going. We going to let you know. And you always want to know how's the vibe of the team feeling? So coach has a sense of how the. How the other players looking at this and those guys are giving him feedback. Coach, we're good. Don't worry about it. He says, noise. We ain't even worry about him.
Matt Myron
Well, he's a lot of noise.
Herm Edwards
Oh, Coach.
Matt Myron
That way. He's in Philadelphia every game. Who was. Who was your biggest noise? I mean, I'm not asking you to, like, rat on them, but who's the person that you may have liked him. It was a lot of noise.
Herm Edwards
A little bit. A different maker for me was when I went to Kansas City, Larry Johnson, the runner.
Myron
Yeah, okay. Still is and still is making noise.
Herm Edwards
But I had it. But I had a great conversation soon as I took over, you know, and I became the head coach and I got traded there. I called him in and I said, larry, I had a football in my hand. I said, I gave him the ball. And I said, is the ball heavy? And he said, no, coach, it's not heavy.
Myron
I said, good.
Herm Edwards
Cause you're going to carry it a lot. And he looked at me, he said, really? I said, oh, yeah, I'm gonna give you the ball a lot. And he goes, really, Coach? I said, yeah. After that, he was good. He was good.
Matt Myron
You asked him if. Wait a minute. Where you asked him if the ball was heavy? What did you think? I'm gonna ask him if the ball's heavy. Where'd you come up with these little.
Herm Edwards
Guy Just come up with stuff, you know, you start thinking. I said, I said, it's the ball.
Myron
Put that in the book.
Herm Edwards
And he looked at the ball. He was touching.
Matt Myron
I said, you need to write a book. Yeah, I need to write a Book. Like, he looked at me.
Herm Edwards
He looked at me. He asked me, he said, what do you mean? I said, is it heavy? And he said. He said, no. I said, so you can carry the lot, huh? He go, yeah, coach. I said, good, because you're gonna carry a lot. He walked out.
Matt Myron
Do you have a book? Do you have a book editor? Because I'm thinking, Unk Herms, catchphrases. But that'd be a good book for you.
Myron
I read it. Yeah.
Matt Myron
Oh, you gotta take him.
Myron
Claim up his mind, too.
Herm Edwards
Sometimes, you know, there's words you can say to players where they just get it and you gotta know who the player is. You gotta know when to approach him, how to approach him, and go, hey, here we go. Like, for free for AJ Brown. If I was coaching him, it'd be simple. Yeah, I'd bring him a book every week. So read this one this week.
Matt Myron
You think he would.
Herm Edwards
He probably looked at me like I'm crazy. I said, here's another book.
Matt Myron
You need to read like you gonna show up with Catcher in the Rock.
Herm Edwards
I give him different books every week. Here's another one. You can read this, and if you want to, you can. We can actually have.
Matt Myron
We can actually have five where you.
Herm Edwards
Can read it to the team. You can read a chapter to the team if you'd like.
Matt Myron
All right. I like it. Eat, Pray, love, aj. Yeah, Coach.
Myron
Do you think because you know Matt La Flor in Green Bay, dealing with a mess there, being asked about his career, right. His future, you find that some of these new player friendly coaches, when things are great, it seems like they're the best and they really know how to deal with that? I wonder if this generation has struggles with challenging times. Do you feel like this generation of these young coaches don't deal with adversity the same way that maybe you were able to deal with it?
Herm Edwards
Well, I. I just think whatever you do when you become the coach, especially the head coach, how you deal with personalities is. Is probably your biggest challenge. And all players want to know is consistency. And I used to tell players this all the time. My first meeting was real simple, people, because it's life. Life is works this way. I used to tell them, look, so here's the deal, boys. I'm gonna treat everyone fairly, but I ain't treating everybody the same. And they look at you like, you hear what I just told you. I'm gonna treat everybody fair, but I'm not everybody.
Matt Myron
I mean, that sounds like a good line, but. What? Give me an example.
Herm Edwards
Okay?
Matt Myron
Everybody but not the same. What does that mean?
Herm Edwards
You got the eight year vet. Okay, eight year veteran, playing a lot of football games, been a really good player and then you got a rookie coming in. If that rookie thinks he's going to get be treated like that eight year veteran, he's crazy.
Matt Myron
So the eight year veteran can get away with more.
Herm Edwards
Eight year veteran. You just, you, you. That's what you get to do. So what happens is when you tell them that and you're a young player, you go, oh, when I get to that status, that's how he's going to talk to me. Correct.
Matt Myron
Gotcha. Correct.
Herm Edwards
You got to earn the right to act like that.
Matt Myron
Practice.
Herm Edwards
Right. You got to earn the right.
Matt Myron
You're right, you're right about that. That's how it works.
Herm Edwards
And players get that when you see. Because when you tell them that they go, oh yeah coach, I hear what you're saying. Yeah, that's right.
Matt Myron
It's trick. Let me before is Drake May a top five quarterback in the NFL today.
Herm Edwards
Up O. Oh, I think yeah, I think he can be.
Matt Myron
I can't be. Is he today. Cuz like we would have said Jaden Daniels was last year and then it struggle. We said that about C.J.
Herm Edwards
Str years ago. Jaden got hurt. So yeah, that's not his.
Matt Myron
But what about Drake May? Top five.
Herm Edwards
Top five. I don't know about top five. Not yet.
Matt Myron
Okay. Not sure about top five.
Myron
He's good, he's been good.
Matt Myron
I mean I want to hate on.
Herm Edwards
Him but there's not, he's not, there's not. He, he's not asked to do a whole lot which is great. Got a good defense. They don't give up any points. Doesn't turn the ball over because they run the ball.
Myron
I mean he's making plays though too.
Herm Edwards
Yeah, he makes plays with his legs and he throws the ball down the field every once in a while. But at the end of the day he's playing in a. He's playing in a. He's playing kind of like when Tom Brady came in, right? Tom Brady wasn't asked to throw a lot of passes. They were running the football, playing good defense, excellent special teams. And as Tom Brady continued to grow, he became, you know, Captain America as we know.
Matt Myron
That is true. I do want to say before I go home, I'm seeing you. You know there's a trend on TikTok. I don't know if you're aware. No, I don't. The kids are like the kids are all saying I don't roll with. With Nike tech. I'm classy. I wear quarter strips. I just want you to know, you may not realize this, but you're with the trends with your quarter trendy on there. Everyone's doing, you're trendy. You're wearing your quarter zips.
Myron
The quarter zips.
Matt Myron
Your little quarter zip. That's what you're wearing right now. You know that little. It zips up and it's like a little sweater. That's.
Myron
That's a new thing.
Matt Myron
Quarter zip. And it's. Well, it's not new, but like now it's back in style. Got. People say, I don't wear Nike tech. I wear quarter zip. And that's what.
Myron
So you're with the trends. Well, the kids are doing it.
Herm Edwards
I stay ahead of the trend because you're correct. I can zip it, but I can also button it.
Matt Myron
Okay, okay.
Herm Edwards
I can go.
Matt Myron
I don't know.
Herm Edwards
I can zip at the stream.
Matt Myron
How you want to roll.
Herm Edwards
I can roll either way you want.
Matt Myron
I couldn't see. I thought you were quarter zipping. Members only now.
Myron
No, no, no, no.
Matt Myron
Don't minimize it.
Myron
No, you with the trend. You can put it out. You can put that on Tick tock.
Matt Myron
I don't know if you could put that on Tick tock. I thought you.
Herm Edwards
I can quarter zippy right here. See, I gotta get my zipper right.
Myron
I don't think it's supposed to take that long, Herm.
Matt Myron
I think, yeah.
Herm Edwards
Quarter zip here.
Matt Myron
It's not a quarter zip. It's gonna do construction.
Herm Edwards
Look, I. Guys, you gotta forget I set the trends, so somebody's gonna have to do both now. I'm doing both.
Matt Myron
Okay, you want to keep up with me?
Herm Edwards
I'm way ahead of you guys.
Matt Myron
Okay, I got you. Her mad words is thank you very much. My pleasure. We'll count you down to kickoff next here on ESPN Radio.

Have thought when you saw that the Madrid game this morning, morning would be Dolphins and Commanders. You may have thought, well, that game, that's not gonna sound very interesting. That's not gonna be good. Well, guess what, you were right. It is almost halftime and The Dolphins lead 6 to 3 in the Commanders as we continue to export our worst products to the NFL. Although the Commanders are do have a field goal here that could tie it up before halftime. It is Matt Myron here on ESPN Radio. I'm in Buffalo at the Big Tree Inn where they have on the, they have on the menu here, Myron, a Jim Kelly melt. Jim Kelly tuna melt brioche roll with cheese 13.79 in honor of your guy, Jim Kelly.
Myron
Did you order it? What, what do you.
Matt Myron
No, I don't like, I don't like my tuna from Buffalo. I tend to feel like this is more of a wings place. I don't know, I don't think they mean by that. I don't know where tuna comes from, but I don't feel like it's here. And so as you would say, it's probably been on a lot of trucks.
Myron
So I'm gonna view, you know, some of the famous people, some of the famous people from Buffalo. If you don't, I'll give you a list of names. Rick James, super freak Rick James, actually, after he got famous, pulled up in his drop top convertible in the city of Buffalo. And there's a cool, cool image out there if you ever want to Google it. Greg Odin is from.
Matt Myron
Yeah, picked ahead of Kevin Durant. And at the time that was not controversial.
Myron
It was not Wolf Blitzer. Lex Luger.
Matt Myron
Blitzer. Lex Luger, the wrestler.
Myron
The wrestler Lex Luger, the wrestler Buffalo.
Matt Myron
Who? New York. The total package. Lex Luger. Yes, the total package. The also the narcissist at one point in Grover Cleveland. Oh, Grover Cleveland. Now I have to tell you, I'm not trying to get off topic here, but I am for just a second. Can I highly recommend a show for everyone? The show about the assassination of James Garfield that is on Netflix right now called Death by Lightning is surprisingly very, very good. It stars Lexington, Kentucky's own own Michael Shannon. And then it stars the guy that plays Tom on succession is the guy that kills him. It is. I, I, I have to say I didn't expect to really want to watch a show about James Garfield, but it is extremely well done.
Myron
I've heard good things about. Is it a, I can only watch limited series. Is it like a limited series?
Matt Myron
That's it.
Myron
Okay. That's all I can do. Okay, I'm in. I can't do multiple seasons.
Matt Myron
Okay. I recommend to people the Death by Lightning. That's my television pick of the day. But before you watch that, you're going to want to watch the AFC north games today. How about that?
Myron
Good transition.
Matt Myron
Bengals against the Steelers and the Ravens against the Browns. Joe Flacco tries to beat the Steelers for the second time this year. And then Lamar continuing kind of trying to get the Ravens back from 1 and 5 into the playoffs. You had a religious experience last weekend because like I used to do in college, you got to see Lamar up close in person. I don't think you'd ever done it before. Explain to people what I've said for years, which is that he is a different kind of species up close.
Myron
Yeah. I mean, so I was on the NFL sidelines for ESPN Radio, thankful for that opportunity. Vikings Raven. So you know I'm as close as you can be to the game.
Matt Myron
Make sure everybody knows what you were doing. Yeah.
Myron
No, you, other than the players and personnel, you can't get closer than I was to the field.
Matt Myron
Right.
Myron
And Lamar Jackson is scrambling and there was a play. It not only had a big game, but I've never seen someone look like time has stopped or something for everybody else, but like he's still moving. And then he like jumped in a way that made everybody on the sideline just kind of go, what was that? And it wasn't even like, it probably didn't make Sports center. But he just does things like that in such a casual way. And then you see it up close and you see the speed up close. It just, it's not even his, it's not even Matt his, like how fast he's running down the field. It's that like five yard thing. Like he can go from this point to that point in the shortest amount of time I've ever seen any athlete in any spot sport. And it's just amazing to watch in real time watch Lamar Jackson operate.
Matt Myron
I think everybody knows how athletic and how good NFL athletes are compared to like average Joe's. But what makes Lamar Jackson different is how athletic and how talented he is compared to the fellow NFL guys. Like take your NFL guy. I mean, every. Probably all of you at some point have met an NFL player. You've seen a guy who played big time in college or whatever, you know, whatever. Pick your. Pick your best athlete. You know, Lamar Jackson makes that dude look like a kid. Like he embarrasses that guy. And that is what I find so amazing about him. I would watch him in big time college football and you know, he's playing against SEC athletes and he just is like a different level. And the fact that he can still do it in the NFL and do it so successfully. They're a different team with him. It's like they're two different sports. When Lamar plays and when he does.
Myron
Yeah. And you know, it doesn't feel real. Like to your point.
Matt Myron
It does. He's like a video game.
Myron
Yeah. He's outmaneuvering the greatest athletes on the planet and it looks like they don't belong on the same field. Him. My thought, Matt, when I was watching was like, who saw him in college in the NFL combine and thought this isn't a quarterback and this isn't a top five pick. Like, I don't know how you could watch him.
Matt Myron
Yeah, but Dan.
Myron
Or lost. But I mean, these other teams that didn't pick him higher, I don't know, you could watch that and not say, I'll do everything I can to get that dude on my team. Right.
Matt Myron
I'm sorry, Dan. I don't know. I don't know why I always call him. I think it's just. Cause I. I mean, I just like him a lot.
Myron
But like he did.
Matt Myron
I mean, Dan Orlovski knows more about football than I ever do. But I just for the record, Myon, I was right about Lamar and Josh Allen.
Myron
You're right about Lamar. Yeah. You read about Lamar. Yeah, you're right.
Herm Edwards
But I.
Matt Myron
We had the same argument about Josh Allen. He didn't think he was going to be able to do it either. So. You know, I like Dan, but he's.
Myron
I've always got better at picking quarterbacks. You're better at picking.
Matt Myron
Like he's better at everything else.
Myron
Football.
Matt Myron
But when it comes. Yeah. Use me. Send me to the combine. Not Dan Orlovsky to pick your quarterback. We'll head to the AFC north or we'll head to other games next. That's right here. I'm Matt Myron on ESPN Radio.
Myron
