It is countdown to kickoff here on ESPN Radio live from Cincinnati, Ohio. That's right, we are here in Cincinnati, right on the river, the Ohio river, overlooking Great American Ballpark, Newport, Kentucky, which was once the gangster capital of the south of the Midwest. Matt Jones, Myron Metcalf at Jefferson Social AFC North Battle Bengals versus the Steelers. And our trip around America continues. MEYER Metcalf, we are here. It is frigid cold outside, even for Cincinnati. It is cold people out. People are in five, six layers. But we are here. We'd love to see you, come say hi. We got T shirts, we got hats.
Guest/Listener
Yeah.
Myron Metcalf
Meyer Metcalf has stickers. That's the one thing they gave him to give away. You're way too excited to give these people stickers. It is nice to be here.
Guest/Listener
Well, don't act like they just gave me the stickers to give out and they gave you the hats and T shirts. We're all supposed to give out everything. But no, it's good to be here in Cincinnati.
Myron Metcalf
Cincinnati and the banks.
Guest/Listener
They call it the banks. I didn't know what that was. People kept talking about banks.
Myron Metcalf
So if you've never been to Cincinnati.
Guest/Listener
Oh, the river banks. Is that what, is that what? That's what it is. Okay. I didn't know what it was. I've just now put it together.
Myron Metcalf
Have you ever been out in public? You didn't figure out that the banks were the river banks?
Guest/Listener
I'm just now putting it together, man. I'm figuring it out. Okay.
Myron Metcalf
So for those of you never been to Cincinnati, right. There's the Ohio River. Kentucky is on the other side of the river, my home state. You've got Great American ballpark, the baseball stadium over here.
Guest/Listener
Yeah.
Myron Metcalf
You got the Bengals stadium over here. I got some UK fans that have made the trip here. We've got other folks coming in as the day goes on. We tried to get Red's manager, Terry Francona.
Guest/Listener
Yeah, we did.
Myron Metcalf
And he said there weren't enough stickers, so he wasn't able to come.
Guest/Listener
Okay.
Myron Metcalf
But we are, we are still going to get ready for the NFL and Bengals and Steelers. One of the most, I mean, would you say one of the three to four most heated rivalries in the NFL?
Guest/Listener
Yeah. I mean, this Is one of those rivalries where, like, it doesn't matter what the records are. Obviously, the Bengals have struggled this year. The Steelers are coming in, you know, trying to prove that they're a contender as well. But the stakes, the records never matter. When these two teams meet, they hate each other. They do.
Myron Metcalf
I mean, I've been to games, I've been to this game before when there were people who literally, I saw two old women punching each other. Bengals, Steelers game. And they were both Bengals fans. That makes sense.
Guest/Listener
That makes sense.
Myron Metcalf
They weren't even. They weren't even fighting the other team. This is. This is good. Pure American hatred. You can give us a count shout on Countdown to Kickoff nation on the Dr. Pepper call in line. 8, 8, 8C. ESPN. We're presented by Dr. Pepper. It's not football season without the delicious taste of an ice cold Dr. Pepper football. It's a Pepper thing. All right, so we're going to get you ready for all the NFL games, including this one. But we got to start with what has to have been one of the wildest days in college football history. Rivalry week was nuts. It ended. There were a couple big games. I think the biggest was Ohio State loses at home to Michigan. Ryan Day's future as a coach is shaky at best. Texas beats Texas A and M. But to me, that's not the story. The story is the way America fought over flags in artificial turf. You wouldn't think that would. Starting with Ohio State, Michigan going to North Carolina, North Carolina State, Arizona, Arizona State, and then at night and Florida State, People went to war for a flag in a field as the winning team would try to plant the flag in the losing team's center of the field. And it led to fights. I loved it. Unlike Gus Johnson, who act like Randy Moss was mooning people in the crowd. I loved it. What did you think?
Guest/Listener
Hey, man, it made it exciting, man. It was exciting, unfortunately, because it happened four times and there were scuffles. It's just a matter of time before it gets banned. Like, there's gotta be some room.
Myron Metcalf
They'll ban it.
Guest/Listener
They will. Unfortunately, they will. But let me tell you something about Ohio State and getting all upset and fighting people with Michigan after they tried to plant the flag. You had four quarters to try to do something about that. You played maybe the worst Michigan team we've seen in a decade on your field.
Myron Metcalf
Yes.
Guest/Listener
And now you want to have all these emotions after the game and saying, oh, my goodness, they're going to plant the flag. No. You should have been concerned about them getting into the end zone. I just don't have any sympathy for Ryan Day, who is the biggest.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah, I feel like you almost cursed.
Guest/Listener
No, Ryan. No Ryan Day. Ryan Day, who at the end of the day is fraudulent in terms of being a top coach in college football. He's. Oh, he's one in four against Michigan. If you say last year, the last couple years, fine. This is one of the worst Michigan teams that we've seen over the last decade, and he still loses at home. I think if you're mad about that, in terms of them planting the flag, you should have been that mad in the game. I have no sympathy for Ohio State in this situation.
Myron Metcalf
For me, when it comes to college football, it's one of the greatest sports and it has nothing to do with the play on the field. It's silly emotions like that. The game was fine. It was actually boring, to be honest.
Guest/Listener
It wasn't great.
Myron Metcalf
Who cared about the game? But Michigan decides, you know what? I'm going to take this flag.
Guest/Listener
Yeah.
Myron Metcalf
This is not grass. So it's going to be a hard. Do it. You're not going to be able to get. I'm going to take it. And then all of a sudden, they're fighting. One guy during the middle of the fight, one Michigan player just starts waving the flag. An Ohio State guy grabs the flag and tries to rip it there. We got pepper spray out in the crowd. There's people taking their shirts off like it was awesome. Then you go to North Carolina, North Carolina State. I've said this for years about that rivalry. People hate each other a lot more than people realize in North Carolina. North Carolina State, yes. Florida. Florida State does it. Arizona. Arizona State does it. I love it. I hope you're. I hope you're wrong. I hope they don't ban it. Yeah, but that yesterday, Myron. That's why college football is so pure. People get so angry over symbols and I love it.
Guest/Listener
No, it was incredible, man. I think also people were reminded to your point of how intense rivalry games are. A lot of people don't understand what some of these rivalry games are. If you're NC State versus North Carolina. North Carolina is the big school, the quote, unquote, better school. You were probably dreaming of playing in North Carolina one day and you ended up in NC State. And all those guys you faced in high school went to North Carolina. Like that continues up through college. And they always want to beat those guys. These are rivalries that are years and years in the making. And then we see it on the big stage. That's where the emotions come from.
Myron Metcalf
All right, so let's go through them real quick. I want you to give me your 10 second and I'm enforcing the 10 second on these games. All right. Ohio State, Michigan, 10 seconds on what?
Guest/Listener
The rivalry is just on hot.
Myron Metcalf
Just the game yesterday.
Guest/Listener
The game was second. The game was the game.
Myron Metcalf
You already used up your 10 seconds.
Guest/Listener
I don't know what I'm supposed to do. Texas, Texas A and M. You know what? Texas proved that they belong here in the playoffs. And I think they're a real contender. Maybe the team to beat outside of Oregon going in that was think about.
Myron Metcalf
The most expensive ticket price in the history of a regular season college game. Texas A and M. They did the thing where they rock back and forth. People are so weird. And then they still lost the game. Texas, best team in the country or Oregon.
Guest/Listener
I'm going to pick Texas right now.
Myron Metcalf
I think Texas right now.
Guest/Listener
Yeah, I think so.
Myron Metcalf
Florida. Florida State. Did Billy Napier with the end of his season, did he make it to where you think he matters?
Guest/Listener
I don't think he did. You know, at the same time it's. You never know with what they're going to do with Florida. But that rivalry is real Florida. People need to go to real Florida.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah, that's not my to understand what that rivalry is. Arizona, Arizona State is Kenny Dillingham, who's taking Arizona State to the Big 12 final. Is he an insane man or is he brilliant or both?
Guest/Listener
I think he's a mix of both. And you know what? Somebody's gonna try to hire him. I mean, I mean that is the kind of thing that happens where you go, wow, no one anticipated this finish and now here you are with a chance to get into the playoff.
Myron Metcalf
Usc, Notre Dame, apparently they play for something Irish, which I don't know. Did they ask us see if they could if they wanted to be part of that because they give them like an Irish stick. But Notre Dame gets the victory.
Guest/Listener
I think that game was showed you how far USC has fallen. Like Lincoln Riley's supposed to restore the brand and now here you are, still an afterthought in college football that they got to make some real changes.
Myron Metcalf
Iron Bowl, Auburn, Alabama. Alabama gets the win. Would you put Alabama in the playoff with three losses? They're certainly one of the best teams, but would you put them in?
Guest/Listener
So. So what we're people are debating Miami, South Carolina, and then you have to go over there. Alabama. Yeah. But to me, if you're saying who has the Best chance to win. Alabama's in. I'm putting Alabama in because I want to put the teams in that have the best shot to actually win a playoff game.
Myron Metcalf
I know this was a game that didn't get a lot on the radar, but Kentucky, Louisville, one of our players at Kentucky went to the. We lost 41 to 14 in the third quarter. One of our players went to the concession stand.
Guest/Listener
I didn't know if that was real. And then people were taking photos of him at the concession stands in the game. How does that even happen?
Myron Metcalf
I don't know. I have to tell you. I don't. James, Mike Studio. Did you see the Kentucky player go to the concession stand during the third quarter of the game?
Guest/Listener
That's a bad time.
Myron Metcalf
Are you all there back in the studio?
Guest/Listener
I don't know if they're there. They might not be there. I did not. You might be doing the show alone?
Myron Metcalf
No, I did not see it.
Guest/Listener
I'll have to go look for it.
Myron Metcalf
You need to go look for it. Jared Lindsey just in the third quarter, went to the concessions. That's how you know your year's not going well when the players are going to the concession stand during the game. Louisville ended up winning by a lot. I'm a Kentucky fan. I'm a little bit hurt. I'm not going to lie to you. I don't like that our players went to the concession stand during the middle of the game.
Guest/Listener
What is the coaching staff thinking when a dude leaves in the third quarter and comes back to the sideline with nachos, a hot dog and a Coke like that, to me is just.
Myron Metcalf
He had his uniform on. He went into the concession in his uniform. I mean, they just have really good concessions there. We did. You can't go to the concession stand with your uniform on. That is rivalry week, though. Everybody else is playing flags. We are getting nachos at Kentucky. Eight, eight, eight, say espn. We're going to talk about the playoff. Who is in? It is a wild scene in terms of the bracket. I'm going to break it down to where everybody could understand. To me, there's only two teams playing out for the last spot. We'll talk about it. That's next here live from Cincinnati at Jefferson Social. It is Cadet. It is Sunday morning. Matt Myron on Catadon. The kickoff.
Guest/Listener
Matt and Myron the podcast.

It is countdown to get golf here in Cincinnati, Ohio at Jefferson Social ESPN radio. My regular KSR crew just walked in there. Myron, did you see that? You got Ryan Lemon, you got Drew Franklin, Max Duffy, Mario Maitland, all here. All the superstars in Cincinnati.
Guest/Listener
The whole crew, man. Yeah. Got a chance to get to know those guys.
Myron Metcalf
You know, I'm driving to Seattle as soon as this game's over.
Guest/Listener
Yeah, I know. I think I'm doing your show on one of those days.
Myron Metcalf
You are, But I'm driving all the way to Seattle. How far?
Guest/Listener
How far?
Myron Metcalf
Look it up. Cincinnati to Seattle. It ain't close, I'll tell you that. So we're spending the next week on the road.
Guest/Listener
Nice. Going to that Kentucky Gonzaga game.
Myron Metcalf
The best fan of the month is brought to you by Dr. Pepper. I'm going to name this woman who drove here from Minnesota to see us today from your hometown.
Guest/Listener
Who lives where I live.
Myron Metcalf
Really surprised she didn't. She could have come senior in Minnesota. She came here. She's gonna be my best fan of the month brought to us by Dr. Pepper. It's not college football season without the delicious taste of an ice cold Dr. Pepper. Yeah, it's a pepper thing. With 34 hours, I'm seeing 34. 34. And I'm gonna be just driving the whole way going for tonight to Iowa City. So I'm going from Cincinnati to Iowa City as soon as this show ends. Right before the. Right after this game starts. All right, let me go over the playoff real quick here. Quickly. All right, so here's who I think is in. You tell me if you disagree. I think there are four teams in from the Big Ten no matter what.
Guest/Listener
Yep.
Myron Metcalf
That's. That's Oregon, Penn State, Ohio State, Indiana. You think all four in? All four are in, four in. Let's take it. I think there's three teams from the SEC that are in no matter what. Georgia, Texas and Tennessee. Do you agree with that?
Guest/Listener
100%.
Myron Metcalf
All right, that's seven.
Guest/Listener
Yep.
Myron Metcalf
Now, I think you're going to get the champions. The Big 12 champion is in. The ACC champion is in. That gets us to nine. There's going to be the team from the group of five, probably either Boise State or UNLV. That gets us to 10. Right. Then I think Notre Dame is in. So that gets us to 11. So really we're talking about one spot. To me, this is the option. ACC championships, SMU, Clemson. SMU's in. Clemson is out. So that would leave a spot open if Clemson's in. However, SMU now has two losses and they could get the 12th spot, but I don't think it's guaranteed. The other contenders are Miami, who has two losses. So we're assuming SMU loses in the championship, Miami with two losses, SMU with two losses, or Alabama, Ole Miss, South Carolina in the sec. For me, of those three, you have to take Alabama because they beat South Carolina and so did Ole Miss. And I think Alabama's resume is better. Do you agree with that breakdown? And of those teams, if it came down to it, who would you take?
Guest/Listener
It makes sense to me. Like, here's what I hope we understand. I don't think there's an easy choice in the scenario you described for the committee. So I don't want anyone to say, oh, man, somebody got snubbed. Regardless of who gets picked for that last spot, everybody has a bit of a shaky resume. But to me, if I'm on the committee, I'm going, who actually has a chance to win games in the playoff? Like, who can I put into the field? And I know for sure that they'll be competitive. I have a hard time with that. If you're telling me you have a Miami team that just lost to Syracuse and also lost to Georgia Tech, I don't think they're going to be competitive in the 12 team field. South Carolina's finished strong, six wins in a row. But those losses earlier to Alabama, Ole.
Myron Metcalf
Miss, you can't pick him over Alabama.
Guest/Listener
It's not going to happen. So you know, it's going to come down to, I think it's going to be SMU or Alabama, SMU or Alabama. To me, Alabama's going to get the edge because I think they can get into the playoff and win games. And that to me is why the.
Myron Metcalf
B will get In I had this argument though last week and you picked SMU and I picked Alabama.
Guest/Listener
A lot has changed in a week, man. A whole lot of things have changed in a week. A whole lot of things. Because I think it's even shakier to find that last spot. And to me, the committee's not going to have something that says, okay, this definitely puts that bubble team over the other bubble team. And I think it's going to come down to what Ward Manuel, who is the head of the committee, Michigan athletic director. It's going to come down to who can be competitive in the 12 team field. That's what I want to see.
Myron Metcalf
Okay. So I'm glad you came to my side because if it ends up in this, SMU could make it the cleanest.
Guest/Listener
Yes, they could.
Myron Metcalf
If SMU beats Clemson, then I think Alabama takes that last spot and it's. It's fine. But I do think it's important to know, even if it's between Alabama and Miami or Alabama and smu, you're basically talking about a two loss ACC team versus a three loss SEC team. The committee is going to be setting a precedent no matter what. Are you going to take the three loss from the major conference? Because I think the SEC and the Big Ten are in a different world over the two loss from the second level conference.
Guest/Listener
Yeah.
Myron Metcalf
And I think the answer is almost always going to be yes. And I think you'll see that this year. But remember, here's a little side fact. A lot of people think it's controversial. Alabama got in over an ACC team last year.
Guest/Listener
Yes.
Myron Metcalf
Do you think they do it again? Alabama over an ACC team again?
Guest/Listener
I do. Here's the thing though. I think last year established the standard. I think last year the committee was saying we'll take that Alabama team despite the blemish on their resume over that Florida State team. Because we think the competition they faced was that much more challenging than what Florida State had taken. So you can't switch that this year when you expand the playoff. It's the same conversation to me and it's the same argument. At the end of the day, who do you think is the most competitive team considering who they face to this point?
Myron Metcalf
Can't switch up. Is that what you're saying?
Guest/Listener
They can't. At the end of the day, you can't change it. And I think Alabama's going to get in because how do you go from last year's standard to create a new one this year?
Myron Metcalf
All right, so that's all well and good. Who's good? Who's going to win the division? I mean, like, we haven't seen Oregon play a meaningful game in six weeks.
Guest/Listener
Yeah.
Myron Metcalf
Everybody else, I mean, Ohio State loses to Michigan. Indiana gets blown out by Ohio State. Penn State loses at home. Alabama has lost a vanity. Georgia nearly lost to Georgia Tech. Eight overtimes. Right. I mean, who is good?
Guest/Listener
I think Notre Dame is actually pretty good. They lost in Northern Illinois. But here's the thing. I think what Marcus Freeman did, he deserves credit for. We now look back at that Northern Illinois loss, which I think Northern Illinois lost like five games or something.
Myron Metcalf
They're like six and six.
Guest/Listener
You know what I mean?
Myron Metcalf
Yeah.
Guest/Listener
It's going to be one of those weird things that you just can't explain. Like we thought it would define their season and now I think it's just one of those deals where I don't know how it happened, but since then Notre Dame's been excellent, man, and they destroyed usc. So I think Notre Dame is actually pretty good.
Myron Metcalf
Didn't really destroy. It was a seven point game.
Guest/Listener
Well, at the end they pulled away. At the end they pulled away.
Myron Metcalf
They got an interception. Yeah.
Guest/Listener
I think Notre Dame was clearly the better team over usc. I think Oregon. It's about how much you trust the big team. I think the Big Ten's value is kind of going down. Penn State almost lost to Minnesota a week back. Ohio State just lost to a average Michigan team. I don't know how good the Big Ten is, so it's hard to call Oregon the favorite as well. I put Texas as the best team in America. I had to pick right now.
Myron Metcalf
I agree with you. I think if you're, if you're saying who are the best teams, I would say Texas. Yeah. And Oregon. One person writes. Matt. Sunday morning show with Matt Jones admirer Metcalf. You all complete me. Stay warm, fellas. How about that? How good we complete?
Guest/Listener
Yeah, that's. I mean, I don't know that I want to complete somebody. Why not? That's a lot of pressure. That's a lot of pressure to say.
Myron Metcalf
I mean, you don't know how far they were to completion before you.
Guest/Listener
That's true.
Myron Metcalf
That's true. And a lot of people say you could be 99.5% to completion. Byron will do the last 5%. I don't know, to get you to completion. That's what a lot of people say.
Guest/Listener
I don't like how that sounds, honestly. That doesn't sound right to me. But yeah, I'm glad we got fans, man. It's cool.
Myron Metcalf
I think it's cool. You can write a 772, 774 5254. One person writes, Come on, Matt, the Kentucky player that went to the concession stand, you make it sound like he was in pads and a helmet. As a former player, I will say it looks bad, but he wasn't in a helmet. Well, that would be even worse if he went to the concession stand in a helmet. Then that would be really bad. He was, however, wearing a jersey of the game. I think that's bad enough. I don't think he needs a helmet to make it full.
Guest/Listener
They don't feed those dudes before the game. Like, I, I think he has access to food. You know, he walked from the sideline. How far is that walk?
Myron Metcalf
It's not easy. You got to go up a lot of steps. He walked, he walked.
Guest/Listener
People out watching him.
Myron Metcalf
He walked from the sideline to the concession stand. That's not a good look.
Matt Jones
You think he would have gotten better service if he had his helmet on?
Guest/Listener
Maybe it was.
Myron Metcalf
Let me also say it was senior day and he's a senior.
Guest/Listener
That's incredible, man.
Myron Metcalf
It didn't work, I think, like they wanted. All right. We will preview a wild potential Sunday of NFL action here in Cincinnati. It's Countdown to kickoff.
Guest/Listener
Matt and Myron the Podcast.

It is countdown to kickoff here on ESPN Radio, meeting all the folks in Cincinnati, Ohio. Cincinnati and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Renewal of the AFC north rivalry, one of many games across the league Today, where some rivals face off in Buffalo. Right now, they're having a blizzard. They say it could be 20 to 30 inches of snow. They put out a thing to the fans, said, bring your shovel and come shovel. And they've done it like they're getting the game ready. You are mad about this.
Guest/Listener
Yes.
Myron Metcalf
You know, Myron has a lot of opinions I think are terrible, but this may be the worst one he has. You don't like snow games, which I think not only makes you un American, it makes you actually someone that we should consider deporting. Why is it you do not like snow games?
Guest/Listener
Why do you take those extra layers? You won't be deported. Because I don't want snow game. First off, I'm from Wisconsin, right.
Myron Metcalf
I like to enforce our results.
Guest/Listener
I know about Lambeau Field. I grew up playing snow games. My thing is, if you're going to build a new facility in this country, you got to put a dome on it, a retractable roof.
Myron Metcalf
Why?
Guest/Listener
Because we shouldn't have these moments where you can't even see the game. It's just such a slop.
Myron Metcalf
Because you saw the.
Guest/Listener
That's not football.
Myron Metcalf
Yes, it is. You saw the Bengal Sealers game. You saw Jameis Winston talking about how the Lord had brought snow from the heavens and it made it to where he realized he was happy to be alive. It was. I felt like I was at church when I was listening to Jamis. You want to get rid of that and just play under a sanitized dome with handy wipes instead of out in the snow in football? Why?
Guest/Listener
Well, first, I'm glad you recognize that Jameis Winston is basically just starting the church. He's going to lead when he's done with football. But to me, the Lord said, that's everything. Is that.
Myron Metcalf
Lord said, hot. There's no going hot.
Guest/Listener
You know what I hate is when they're like, Jamis is about to say something inspirational. And then he'll be like, you know what? Orange is a fruit, but it's also a way of life. Like, what did you just say?
Myron Metcalf
You didn't say, I didn't throw a 35 yard out.
Guest/Listener
Can I get it?
Myron Metcalf
Amen.
Guest/Listener
It's never really that inspirational when he says it, but to me, a little snow, right? Even enough snow where maybe you're sliding a little bit, I'm cool with that. But when it gets to the point where it legitimately affects the way that you can play the game, I'm not a big fan of that.
Myron Metcalf
But see, let me tell you why I like it. All right, so you're the Buffalo Bills. You create a football team for the elements. You're the Buffalo Bills and you say, okay, we're a place that has snow. So I'm going to create a team that can run the ball. I'm going to have a quarterback that can move. I'm going to have a defense that's going to hit hard. So when it's cold, it hurts. I'm going to play for a one seed because if one of these teams, one of these Nams Pamsy teams from down south comes in, it's going to be cold, it's going to be hard for them. That's what you want to do. I like that. If it's all a sanitized dome, then the kind of regional aspect of the NFL goes away. Like, I hate that your Vikings play under a dome. They should do like the packers and create a home field advantage for themselves.
Guest/Listener
First off, it's 2024, not 1924. Should everybody go to the game in a horse and buggy too, since we don't care about the elements? Okay, good luck. You're going to be frostbitten by the time you get to the game. I just think it doesn't make a whole lot of sense as to why people see this always as an advantage. At the end of the day, everybody looks terrible.
Myron Metcalf
But Cleveland won that game.
Guest/Listener
They did.
Myron Metcalf
They beat a team that was better than them. In part because of the inspiration of Reverend Winston.
Guest/Listener
Reverend Winston. But also because to me, it just. It's not. It's good football for these sort of viral moments. It's not something I want to see for four quarters. And if you're in Buffalo, you had people stuck on the highway, man. And here's my other thing, Matt. Why can't the owners of that team find a crew to shovel the snow in that stadium?
Myron Metcalf
A lot of people. Have you ever tried to shovel? I mean, you try to shovel your driveway, it's going to take a long time, but I think. But I like that about the city of Buffalo. I like that the fans will come and volunteer and bring out their old plastic shovel. Isn't there something of noble, something American about that?
Guest/Listener
That ain't capitalism. Because they should be hiring a real crew to actually shovel the snow and pair whatever they got.
Myron Metcalf
What about community spirit? What about the idea of coming together for the greater good?
Guest/Listener
Listen, handing out Subway sandwiches versus paying somebody market rate, I don't have. I'm not a big fan of that.
Myron Metcalf
But we like Subway. They're one of the sponsors.
Guest/Listener
We do. It's. It to me, is sloppy football. And at the end of the day, that's not the product I want to see in the NFL. Put a dome on every new building that's built in the NFL. Bottom line.
Myron Metcalf
One person says, I thought Myron was my friend. Now that I hear his snow opinion, I'm done with him. I agree with you. I thought he was my friend, too, and now he doesn't like snow. He also has children.
Guest/Listener
I'm from Wisconsin. I know more about snow than any of y'all. And I'm telling you, it ain't as fun as you think to play in that one.
Myron Metcalf
Again, the text machine is 772-774-5254. One person writes, Matt, when you were doing the preacher, did I hear you say, ha?
Guest/Listener
Yeah.
Myron Metcalf
What are you, juvenile?
Guest/Listener
No, that's not true. No, Juvenile didn't invent that. That. That was in the Southern Baptist Black Church.
Myron Metcalf
No, no, no.
Guest/Listener
Yes, it was. Stop. Yes, it was. Stop it.
Myron Metcalf
It was in the Mountain Appalachian Church.
Guest/Listener
That's. You think that's like. That's like. That's like the Eminem invented hip hop. Yeah, that's.
Myron Metcalf
We all right. Can we. We can have it together.
Guest/Listener
We did. Okay. We can. We have it.
Myron Metcalf
We share one of the reasons you and I get along.
Guest/Listener
Yeah.
Myron Metcalf
By the way, how. Why do so many people think I'm black? By the way, I get people writing me all the time. People are shocked when I'm white.
Guest/Listener
People. People reach out to me like I lied to them or something. I never said. He was like, what did I do?
Myron Metcalf
But no, no. If you're not from the Deep south in a black church or from Appalachia in a white church, they don't know about it. Preachers who. When they take a breath, they make a sound. So they. You see our producer here, Stash, he's never. You never heard this Stash. So here's what they'll do.
Guest/Listener
Yep.
Myron Metcalf
They'll stand up and they'll go. So the Lord said, ha. That the Cincinnati Bengals ha. Are going to play the Pittsburgh Steelers. Ha. Ear in. On the banks of Northern Kentucky. Ha. What? That's some good mountain preaching here on a Sunday morning. This is during church. This is the time to talk about it.
Guest/Listener
No, it is 100%. I'm just having flashbacks because. 100%.
Myron Metcalf
But when they take a breath, similar.
Guest/Listener
Yes.
Myron Metcalf
When they take a breath, it's a lot. Instead of just taking a breath, they make a sound and they go, ha. Well, they do it.
Guest/Listener
Yeah, The James Winston thing. You can hear that. You could hear him. So when Juvenile did that song, he didn't invent that.
Myron Metcalf
It's a takeoff of the preaching. It is the mountains and from. From Louisiana deep.
Guest/Listener
It's definitely church. Yeah. You grow up in that church like me, you know, you in church all day. You didn't get out in time for the game. That's what James Winston is headed. But I just hate how everything becomes a Jameis Winston interview. Like, it's to the point where they go, we're going to Jameis Winston before the game. Let's see him say something inspirational. He's the quarterback of the Browns. Everybody, let's relax. Okay?
Myron Metcalf
By the way, this is the only show on ESPN Radio. Greeny will never do that. You will never hear Green.
Guest/Listener
They might not let us do it.
Myron Metcalf
You will never hear Greeny do mountain preachers.
Guest/Listener
They might not let us do it at any.
Myron Metcalf
At any point. All right, so the bet. So, but tonight you do have the bills and the 49ers. Do you think the snow will be a disadvantage for the 49ers? Will it give the Bills a huge home field advantage? I would argue it will.
Guest/Listener
I mean, I saw that stat with the Dolphins, right. I think the Dolphins are like 0:12 in their last 12 games where the temperature was under 40 degrees. I mean, are the 49ers at a disadvantage because of the snow?
Myron Metcalf
Of course it doesn't snow in San Francisco.
Guest/Listener
But it's also at a disadvantage because we don't know what team is going to show up. They've had so many injuries that they've had to deal with that. This team just doesn't look like the super bowl threat we thought they would be. And whereas Buffalo, to me, Kansas City looks very vulnerable. Like, Kansas City is a team where you go, okay against Buffalo in that situation, Baltimore in that situation, the better teams in the afc, they're going to lose those games in the playoffs if everything comes down to the final second.
Myron Metcalf
Finally ready to agree with me that Brock Purdy may not be a top seven quarterback? Like. Like you wanted to put him in that maybe he is kind of in that second, third tier and not in the first.
Guest/Listener
I don't know how to judge him. Brandon IU goes down with injury. Trent Williams has been banged up. Christian McCaffrey has been hurt. I mean, legitimately, the only reason.
Myron Metcalf
But the great ones have that happen, and they still go perform. And he. I'm not saying I think he's good.
Guest/Listener
Yeah.
Myron Metcalf
But the great ones Win no matter who's around him. And he's not great.
Guest/Listener
But if you're saying he's a system quarterback, there are a bunch of guys like that, I agree. You're still going to pay him. I mean, that's my thing with Brad Pitt. He's still getting a giant check.
Myron Metcalf
That's fine. I don't care what he gets paid. I'm saying to you, do you think there was a time that people wanted to put him? Like, we all agree that the top quarterbacks in the league are Mahomes, Lamar, Josh, Allen, Burrow.
Guest/Listener
Yep.
Myron Metcalf
And then there's this argument about who's fifth. And I've always said, you know, whether you want to put Jalen Hurts at fifth, you want to put Justin Herbert, whoever you want to put that Brock Purdy's not in that conversation. A lot of people have wanted to put him in that conversation. Are you now ready to say he's not in that conversation?
Guest/Listener
No. Because he went to a Super Bowl. He went to an NFC championship.
Myron Metcalf
Jimmy G. Yeah.
Guest/Listener
But I think this is a guy who's younger than Jimmy G was. There have been a lot of injuries, and I still think he has that top 10 potential. And here's the thing. Go look at the NFC west standings. Everybody's still alive. Like the NFC west, whether you think Seattle, the rams, Arizona, the 49ers, everybody still has a chance to win that division and get into the playoffs. So there's still a run here that Brock Purdy can lead his team.
Myron Metcalf
You see that Kentucky hat right over there? Look at that Kentucky hat.
Guest/Listener
Yeah. Okay.
Myron Metcalf
Go Cats. That's what's most important.
Guest/Listener
I like that. I like that.
Myron Metcalf
We'll act like our guy didn't go to the concession stand.
Guest/Listener
Yes.
Myron Metcalf
That was an embarrassing day. How during the game.
Guest/Listener
How is that preaching gonna sound on the podcast, by the way? People aren't gonna know what to expect when they just hear Matt Jones suddenly preaching mid podcast.
Myron Metcalf
Listen, sometimes I get the spirit. And, you know, when I was growing up, 11am the noon that 11am more to like one. Yes.
Guest/Listener
Yes.
Myron Metcalf
That was church.
Guest/Listener
That's why we get along. That's why we get along.
Myron Metcalf
And now my mom still looks. She looked at me at Thanksgiving. She still gives me a look like, going to church. You still doing that show?
Guest/Listener
I get the same look. I get the same look. I get the same look.
Myron Metcalf
You know, that's church time.
Guest/Listener
Yeah.
Myron Metcalf
You're still on the radio.
Guest/Listener
I get the same look.
Myron Metcalf
I hope you tell the Lord you're sorry. And I do every night. Who My Chicago Bears made a coaching change that was needed after their Thanksgiving game. We'll talk about who should be the coach. Myron's going to give me some candidates and I'll tell you what I think next.
Guest/Listener
Here on the kickoff Matt and Myron the Podcast.

It is Caldada kickoff here presented by Progressive Insurance on the banks of the Ohio River, Cincinnati and Pittsburgh Plain. A lot of folks here in the crowd just saw a guy had his face painted like a Bengal. Did you like that?
Guest/Listener
If it's what you do. I mean, if that's like what you've done, I'm with it. But don't like you can't do that in like year 10 of being a fan.
Myron Metcalf
One person writes, my man Matt Jones preaching on ESPN Radio. I love it. I have to admit, I didn't think he was white. Why do people not think I feel like I have a very white voice. Like, why do people not think that I'm white? Look who's here. Nice to see you, my man. Why did you do that?
Guest/Listener
I don't know, but people act like I'm keeping it from them or something. Like I'm just here to surprise them when we do it live.
Myron Metcalf
But it is unbelievable. All right, so you're going to do something here. You are going to give me a list of names of everyone rumored to potentially be the next Bears coach.
Guest/Listener
Yes.
Myron Metcalf
And then I for people who don't know, I'm a Bears fan.
Guest/Listener
Yeah.
Myron Metcalf
I am going to tell you what I think about the selection. And by the way, I Don't know. I don't know who you've picked.
Guest/Listener
No.
Myron Metcalf
So. And I really haven't followed the search.
Guest/Listener
Yeah, yeah.
Myron Metcalf
Do you agree Eber Fluss had to go after Thanksgiving?
Guest/Listener
That was it. He had to go after the game we saw in Chicago against the Patriots. That should have been the.
Myron Metcalf
It was a disaster. All right, so you go ahead, give.
Guest/Listener
Me the NFL music. Give me about 30 to 45 seconds there. Probably 30 seconds. Some of these are real. Some of these I'm just throwing out there my first name. Deion Sanders.
Myron Metcalf
You know, I think Deion, what he's done at Colorado has been unbelievable. And if he took the Bears job, I would get excited. But I also don't think he's the right pick. I'm not sure if he's an NFL guy. I will say I think he'd be better off coaching Caleb Williams than coaching his son in the NFL. But I would tend to think Deion would not be at the top of my choice. But if he gets there, I'll talk myself into it because we'll be the coolest team in the NFL.
Guest/Listener
I mean, I think if he wants an NFL job at this point, he's going to get an NFL job. So it'd be interesting to see if he's considered in that conversation. Bill Belichick, the legend, what do you do if he calls?
Myron Metcalf
So I'm kind of of the belief now in the NFL you need to get offensive minded head coaches, but you can't turn down a legend. If you give Bill Belichick, he's the one guy that, generally speaking, I think when people get a certain age, you don't go with them anymore because I don't think it works. But Belichick will be my one exception. He's smart. He will put a staff around him that knows what to do. The only worry for me is towards the end, he didn't seem to get offensive coordinators that were productive in these last few years. I'd want to know who his offensive coordinator is. But if you promise me a good offensive coordinator and Bill Belichick, I'm good with it.
Guest/Listener
Can those guys work if they just won't budge on anything and they need full control, does that still work?
Myron Metcalf
No. Full control. You gotta have a GM and you also. I gotta know who his offensive coordinator it is. You can't be somebody like, you know, Matt Patricia like he did when he was in New England.
Guest/Listener
Cliff Kingsbury, who has revitalized his name in the head coaching search after what he's done with the commanders.
Myron Metcalf
I mean, I'm in because of Caleb Williams. You know, he had a good year or two with Kyler Murray. He was a little arrogant. I kind of think it might be a little lane Kiffin with him in the sense of you had to go fail and get your ego bruised a little bit and then you come, I actually think. Because if I didn't have Caleb Williams, no, I wouldn't want Cliff Kingsbury. But you give me Caleb Williams, he succeeded with Kyler Murray. Murray, he's succeeding with Jaden Daniels. I would take Cliff Kingsbury because of.
Guest/Listener
Our of having Williams can ex defensive coordinators. Can they make it as head coach today or is that over?
Myron Metcalf
I think it's hard. I think you got to pair them with an offensive coordinator that you know.
Guest/Listener
Is successful, one of your guys you've talked about a lot. If you want to see why Baker Mayfield is arguably playing the best football of his career. Liam Cohen, who has been the offensive coordinator multiple stops college pros, he's now.
Myron Metcalf
So here's my message to Chicago Bears fans. Most of you don't know who this person is, but he is on the list. Liam Cohen is the offensive coordinator for Tampa Bay. He was the offensive coordinator at Kentucky when Will Levis was there. This, to me, is a home run hire. If they do it with the names you just read. If Liam Cohen gets the job, there's going to be people disappointed because those names are so big. But Liam Cohen is an offensive. I don't. I don't want to say a savant, but I think he's really good. He basically created an offense out of nowhere at Kentucky. He's the reason Will Levis got drafted. He revitalized Baker Mayfield's career, first with the Rams. People forget he was his coach with the Rams, then took him in Tampa Bay. They've been great. I know him well. He's very smart. Very smart. And to me, smart is more important than anything. Liam Cohen, in my opinion, would be a home run hire if the Bears do it. They almost hired him as the offensive coordinator last year and he ended up in Tampa Bay.
Guest/Listener
My thing about Liam Cohen is someone's going to do it.
Myron Metcalf
Someone's going to do it.
Guest/Listener
And the same way someone had a shot at Shanahan and Sean McVeigh.
Myron Metcalf
I don't know if he's Sean McVeigh or Shanahan, but if you were going to find somebody who could be, Liam Cohen is the one who could be.
Guest/Listener
All right, I know we've talked about defense.
Myron Metcalf
Why did the music go off? We were.
Guest/Listener
I don't know.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah, turn that back.
Guest/Listener
I don't know why they turned it off. Because I'm doing it. Because I'm leading the segment. They want to turn the music.
Myron Metcalf
Gave you three minutes.
Guest/Listener
Play the music until I say stop playing the music. All right. I know we talk about defensive coordinators. Aaron Glenn, defensive coordinator for the Lions, is also getting a lot of buzz. What do you say to that? Fine.
Myron Metcalf
I like Aaron Glenn, but I need to know who you. Look. This. This whole hire is about Caleb Williams.
Guest/Listener
Yeah.
Myron Metcalf
The Bears defense will take care of itself. You. You have to get Caleb Williams. Right. I don't think you can hire a defensive coordinator when you have to get Caleb Williams. Right. That's. The Bears have never had a talent like this at quarterback. You can't screw it up. So, no, I wouldn't hire Aaron Glenn, but only because I'd hire him in other teams, but I don't know if I would hire him with this Bears team.
Guest/Listener
All right, here's the guy that I think, if he goes in and interviews and it's a great interview and everything goes well, I think he gets the offer. Ben Johnson, offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions. A lot of people think he's top candidate right now for that.
Myron Metcalf
Chicago don't know a lot about him as a. As a coach and a person, but I do know that the Detroit Lions offense has been great. Yeah, I've been reading on him in the last couple days because of that. You know, what he's done with Jared Goff is pretty amazing. Right. And that offense is efficient. It's got weapons. But, like, I think he makes all those weapons better. For instance, I look at a guy like DeAndre Swift, who did very little for the Bears, went there in his. Been successful, so wouldn't be my top choice. But if he. If they got him again, I don't want to screw up Caleb Williams. He looks like a guy who could have success with it.
Guest/Listener
And then last name real quick. If they decide to move on from him or he decides to move on. Kevin Stefanski is available. What do you do with that?
Myron Metcalf
Maybe. I mean, I. I mean, it would.
Guest/Listener
Have been a guarantee a year ago, right?
Myron Metcalf
Definitely. But, you know, he got worse. Like, they got. Team got worse, the team got much worse. You had a quarterback that, with all the personal issues, still had a ton of talent, and he's been a disaster. I don't know that I blame Stefanski for that, but I also can't say that I'm 100% excited. You know, Caleb Williams, very different, but a unique personality. Like, you're gonna have to deal with a certain kind of personality. I just. I wouldn't be thrilled about that one. A lot of the other guys we mentioned, I'd rather have.
Guest/Listener
Will you bring Caleb Williams in the room for this hire? I mean, is he a part of it? I do.
Myron Metcalf
I don't think he doesn't make the choice, but you got to make sure that works. Yeah, you got to make sure there's chemistry there. At the end of the day, it's very rare. I think you make a hire for a person. But the Bears and their history at quarterback, it has to work with Caleb Williams.
Guest/Listener
You can't screw it up because they did that with Eberflues, and now they gotta unpack this. Yes.
Myron Metcalf
You did a good job right there.
Guest/Listener
Oh, thank you.
Myron Metcalf
You did a good job. I mean, of all the.
Guest/Listener
They gave me the music. They didn't want to give me the music. Did you see that?
Myron Metcalf
I think the music was key, but.
Guest/Listener
They didn't want to give it to.
Myron Metcalf
The music added to your ability to do. I think without the music, it might not have worked, but I think the music.
Guest/Listener
Why'd I have to get approval to get the music? That's my question.
Myron Metcalf
Held a lot. Pittsburgh and Cincinnati are one of the great rivalries. These two dudes right here, I gotta keep them apart. Cause y'all fight all the time. We'll deal with it next here on ESPN Radio.
