You got the Bengals stadium over here. I got some UK fans that have made the trip here. We've got other folks coming in as the day goes on. We tried to get Red's manager, Terry Francona.

But we are, we are still going to get ready for the NFL and Bengals and Steelers. One of the most, I mean, would you say one of the three to four most heated rivalries in the NFL?

Yeah. I mean, this Is one of those rivalries where, like, it doesn't matter what the records are. Obviously, the Bengals have struggled this year. The Steelers are coming in, you know, trying to prove that they're a contender as well. But the stakes, the records never matter. When these two teams meet, they hate each other. They do.

I mean, I've been to games, I've been to this game before when there were people who literally, I saw two old women punching each other. Bengals, Steelers game. And they were both Bengals fans. That makes sense.

They weren't even. They weren't even fighting the other team. This is. This is good. Pure American hatred. But we got to start with what has to have been one of the wildest days in college football history. Rivalry week was nuts. It ended. There were a couple big games. I think the biggest was Ohio State loses at home to Michigan. Ryan Day's future as a coach is shaky at best. Texas beats Texas A and M. But to me, that's not the story. The story is the way America fought over flags in artificial turf. You wouldn't think that would. Starting with Ohio State, Michigan going to North Carolina, North Carolina State, Arizona, Arizona State, and then at night and Florida State, People went to war for a flag in a field as the winning team would try to plant the flag in the losing team's center of the field. And it led to fights. I loved it. Unlike Gus Johnson, who act like Randy Moss was mooning people in the crowd. I loved it. What did you think?

Hey, man, it made it exciting, man. It was exciting, unfortunately, because it happened four times and there were scuffles. It's just a matter of time before it gets banned. Like, there's gotta be some room.

They'll ban it.

They will. Unfortunately, they will. But let me tell you something about Ohio State and getting all upset and fighting people with Michigan after they tried to plant the flag. You had four quarters to try to do something about that. You played maybe the worst Michigan team we've seen in a decade on your field.

And now you want to have all these emotions after the game and saying, oh, my goodness, they're going to plant the flag. No. You should have been concerned about them getting into the end zone. I just don't have any sympathy for Ryan Day, who is the biggest.

[Myron Metcalf]

Yeah, I feel like you almost cursed.

No, Ryan. No Ryan Day. Ryan Day, who at the end of the day is fraudulent in terms of being a top coach in college football. He's. Oh, he's one in four against Michigan. If you say last year, the last couple years, fine. This is one of the worst Michigan teams that we've seen over the last decade, and he still loses at home. I think if you're mad about that, in terms of them planting the flag, you should have been that mad in the game. I have no sympathy for Ohio State in this situation.

For me, when it comes to college football, it's one of the greatest sports and it has nothing to do with the play on the field. It's silly emotions like that. The game was fine. It was actually boring, to be honest.

Who cared about the game? But Michigan decides, you know what? I'm going to take this flag.

This is not grass. So it's going to be a hard. Do it. You're not going to be able to get. I'm going to take it. And then all of a sudden, they're fighting. One guy during the middle of the fight, one Michigan player just starts waving the flag. An Ohio State guy grabs the flag and tries to rip it there. We got pepper spray out in the crowd. There's people taking their shirts off like it was awesome. Then you go to North Carolina, North Carolina State. I've said this for years about that rivalry. People hate each other a lot more than people realize in North Carolina. North Carolina State, yes. Florida. Florida State does it. Arizona. Arizona State does it. I love it. I hope you're. I hope you're wrong. I hope they don't ban it. Yeah, but that yesterday, Myron. That's why college football is so pure. People get so angry over symbols and I love it.

No, it was incredible, man. I think also people were reminded to your point of how intense rivalry games are. A lot of people don't understand what some of these rivalry games are. If you're NC State versus North Carolina. North Carolina is the big school, the quote, unquote, better school. You were probably dreaming of playing in North Carolina one day and you ended up in NC State. And all those guys you faced in high school went to North Carolina. Like that continues up through college. And they always want to beat those guys. These are rivalries that are years and years in the making. And then we see it on the big stage. That's where the emotions come from.

All right, so let's go through them real quick. I want you to give me your 10 second and I'm enforcing the 10 second on these games. All right. Ohio State, Michigan, 10 seconds on what?

The rivalry is just on hot.

I don't know what I'm supposed to do. Texas, Texas A and M. You know what? Texas proved that they belong here in the playoffs. And I think they're a real contender. Maybe the team to beat outside of Oregon going in that was think about.

The most expensive ticket price in the history of a regular season college game. Texas A and M. They did the thing where they rock back and forth. People are so weird. And then they still lost the game. Texas, best team in the country or Oregon.

I'm going to pick Texas right now.

Florida. Florida State. Did Billy Napier with the end of his season, did he make it to where you think he matters?

I don't think he did. You know, at the same time it's. You never know with what they're going to do with Florida. But that rivalry is real Florida. People need to go to real Florida.

Yeah, that's not my to understand what that rivalry is. Arizona, Arizona State is Kenny Dillingham, who's taking Arizona State to the Big 12 final. Is he an insane man or is he brilliant or both?

I think he's a mix of both. And you know what? Somebody's gonna try to hire him. I mean, I mean that is the kind of thing that happens where you go, wow, no one anticipated this finish and now here you are with a chance to get into the playoff.

[Myron Metcalf]

Usc, Notre Dame, apparently they play for something Irish, which I don't know. Did they ask us see if they could if they wanted to be part of that because they give them like an Irish stick. But Notre Dame gets the victory.

I think that game was showed you how far USC has fallen. Like Lincoln Riley's supposed to restore the brand and now here you are, still an afterthought in college football that they got to make some real changes.

[Myron Metcalf]

Iron Bowl, Auburn, Alabama. Alabama gets the win. Would you put Alabama in the playoff with three losses? They're certainly one of the best teams, but would you put them in?

So. So what we're people are debating Miami, South Carolina, and then you have to go over there. Alabama. Yeah. But to me, if you're saying who has the Best chance to win. Alabama's in. I'm putting Alabama in because I want to put the teams in that have the best shot to actually win a playoff game.

I know this was a game that didn't get a lot on the radar, but Kentucky, Louisville, one of our players at Kentucky went to the. We lost 41 to 14 in the third quarter. One of our players went to the concession stand.

I didn't know if that was real. And then people were taking photos of him at the concession stands in the game. How does that even happen?

I don't know. I have to tell you. I don't. James, Mike Studio. Did you see the Kentucky player go to the concession stand during the third quarter of the game?

I'm not going to lie to you. I don't like that our players went to the concession stand during the middle of the game.

All right, let me go over the playoff real quick here. Quickly. All right, so here's who I think is in. You tell me if you disagree. I think there are four teams in from the Big Ten no matter what.

That's. That's Oregon, Penn State, Ohio State, Indiana. You think all four in? All four are in, four in. Let's take it. I think there's three teams from the SEC that are in no matter what. Georgia, Texas and Tennessee. Do you agree with that?

All right, that's seven.

Now, I think you're going to get the champions. The Big 12 champion is in. The ACC champion is in. That gets us to nine. There's going to be the team from the group of five, probably either Boise State or UNLV. That gets us to 10. Right. Then I think Notre Dame is in. So that gets us to 11. So really we're talking about one spot. To me, this is the option. ACC championships, SMU, Clemson. SMU's in. Clemson is out. So that would leave a spot open if Clemson's in. However, SMU now has two losses and they could get the 12th spot, but I don't think it's guaranteed. The other contenders are Miami, who has two losses. So we're assuming SMU loses in the championship, Miami with two losses, SMU with two losses, or Alabama, Ole Miss, South Carolina in the sec. For me, of those three, you have to take Alabama because they beat South Carolina and so did Ole Miss. And I think Alabama's resume is better. Do you agree with that breakdown? And of those teams, if it came down to it, who would you take?

It makes sense to me. Like, here's what I hope we understand. I don't think there's an easy choice in the scenario you described for the committee. So I don't want anyone to say, oh, man, somebody got snubbed. Regardless of who gets picked for that last spot, everybody has a bit of a shaky resume. But to me, if I'm on the committee, I'm going, who actually has a chance to win games in the playoff? Like, who can I put into the field? And I know for sure that they'll be competitive. I have a hard time with that. If you're telling me you have a Miami team that just lost to Syracuse and also lost to Georgia Tech, I don't think they're going to be competitive in the 12 team field. South Carolina's finished strong, six wins in a row. But those losses earlier to Alabama, Ole.

[Myron Metcalf]

Miss, you can't pick him over Alabama.

It's not going to happen. So you know, it's going to come down to, I think it's going to be SMU or Alabama, SMU or Alabama. To me, Alabama's going to get the edge because I think they can get into the playoff and win games. And that to me is why the.

[Myron Metcalf]

B will get In I had this argument though last week and you picked SMU and I picked Alabama.

A lot has changed in a week, man. A whole lot of things have changed in a week. A whole lot of things. Because I think it's even shakier to find that last spot. And to me, the committee's not going to have something that says, okay, this definitely puts that bubble team over the other bubble team. And I think it's going to come down to what Ward Manuel, who is the head of the committee, Michigan athletic director. It's going to come down to who can be competitive in the 12 team field. That's what I want to see.

[Myron Metcalf]

Okay. So I'm glad you came to my side because if it ends up in this, SMU could make it the cleanest.

Yes, they could.

[Myron Metcalf]

If SMU beats Clemson, then I think Alabama takes that last spot and it's. It's fine. But I do think it's important to know, even if it's between Alabama and Miami or Alabama and smu, you're basically talking about a two loss ACC team versus a three loss SEC team. The committee is going to be setting a precedent no matter what. Are you going to take the three loss from the major conference? Because I think the SEC and the Big Ten are in a different world over the two loss from the second level conference.

Yeah.

[Myron Metcalf]

And I think the answer is almost always going to be yes. And I think you'll see that this year. But remember, here's a little side fact. A lot of people think it's controversial. Alabama got in over an ACC team last year.

Yes.

Do you think they do it again? Alabama over an ACC team again?

[Guest/Listener]

I do. Here's the thing though. I think last year established the standard. I think last year the committee was saying we'll take that Alabama team despite the blemish on their resume over that Florida State team. Because we think the competition they faced was that much more challenging than what Florida State had taken. So you can't switch that this year when you expand the playoff. It's the same conversation to me and it's the same argument. At the end of the day, who do you think is the most competitive team considering who they face to this point?

[Myron Metcalf]

Can't switch up. Is that what you're saying?

They can't. At the end of the day, you can't change it. And I think Alabama's going to get in because how do you go from last year's standard to create a new one this year?

[Myron Metcalf]

All right, so that's all well and good. Who's good? Who's going to win the division? I mean, like, we haven't seen Oregon play a meaningful game in six weeks.

Yeah.

Everybody else, I mean, Ohio State loses to Michigan. Indiana gets blown out by Ohio State. Penn State loses at home. Alabama has lost a vanity. Georgia nearly lost to Georgia Tech. Eight overtimes. Right. I mean, who is good?

I think Notre Dame is actually pretty good. They lost in Northern Illinois. But here's the thing. I think what Marcus Freeman did, he deserves credit for. We now look back at that Northern Illinois loss, which I think Northern Illinois lost like five games or something.

They're like six and six.

It's going to be one of those weird things that you just can't explain. Like we thought it would define their season and now I think it's just one of those deals where I don't know how it happened, but since then Notre Dame's been excellent, man, and they destroyed usc. So I think Notre Dame is actually pretty good.

Didn't really destroy. It was a seven point game.

I know about Lambeau Field. I grew up playing snow games. My thing is, if you're going to build a new facility in this country, you got to put a dome on it, a retractable roof.

Well, first, I'm glad you recognize that Jameis Winston is basically just starting the church. He's going to lead when he's done with football. But to me, the Lord said, that's everything. Is that.

You know what I hate is when they're like, Jamis is about to say something inspirational. And then he'll be like, you know what? Orange is a fruit, but it's also a way of life. Like, what did you just say?

It's never really that inspirational when he says it, but to me, a little snow, right? Even enough snow where maybe you're sliding a little bit, I'm cool with that. But when it gets to the point where it legitimately affects the way that you can play the game, I'm not a big fan of that.

But see, let me tell you why I like it. All right, so you're the Buffalo Bills. You create a football team for the elements. You're the Buffalo Bills and you say, okay, we're a place that has snow. So I'm going to create a team that can run the ball. I'm going to have a quarterback that can move. I'm going to have a defense that's going to hit hard. So when it's cold, it hurts. I'm going to play for a one seed because if one of these teams, one of these Nams Pamsy teams from down south comes in, it's going to be cold, it's going to be hard for them. That's what you want to do. I like that. If it's all a sanitized dome, then the kind of regional aspect of the NFL goes away. Like, I hate that your Vikings play under a dome. They should do like the packers and create a home field advantage for themselves.

First off, it's 2024, not 1924. Should everybody go to the game in a horse and buggy too, since we don't care about the elements? Okay, good luck. You're going to be frostbitten by the time you get to the game. I just think it doesn't make a whole lot of sense as to why people see this always as an advantage. At the end of the day, everybody looks terrible.

But Cleveland won that game.

They beat a team that was better than them. In part because of the inspiration of Reverend Winston.

Reverend Winston. But also because to me, it just. It's not. It's good football for these sort of viral moments. It's not something I want to see for four quarters. And if you're in Buffalo, you had people stuck on the highway, man. And here's my other thing, Matt. Why can't the owners of that team find a crew to shovel the snow in that stadium?

A lot of people. Have you ever tried to shovel? I mean, you try to shovel your driveway, it's going to take a long time, but I think. But I like that about the city of Buffalo. I like that the fans will come and volunteer and bring out their old plastic shovel. Isn't there something of noble, something American about that?

That ain't capitalism. Because they should be hiring a real crew to actually shovel the snow and pair whatever they got.

I mean, I saw that stat with the Dolphins, right. I think the Dolphins are like 0:12 in their last 12 games where the temperature was under 40 degrees. I mean, are the 49ers at a disadvantage because of the snow?

Of course it doesn't snow in San Francisco.

But it's also at a disadvantage because we don't know what team is going to show up. They've had so many injuries that they've had to deal with that. This team just doesn't look like the super bowl threat we thought they would be. And whereas Buffalo, to me, Kansas City looks very vulnerable. Like, Kansas City is a team where you go, okay against Buffalo in that situation, Baltimore in that situation, the better teams in the afc, they're going to lose those games in the playoffs if everything comes down to the final second.

Finally ready to agree with me that Brock Purdy may not be a top seven quarterback? Like. Like you wanted to put him in that maybe he is kind of in that second, third tier and not in the first.

I don't know how to judge him. Brandon IU goes down with injury. Trent Williams has been banged up. Christian McCaffrey has been hurt. I mean, legitimately, the only reason.

But the great ones have that happen, and they still go perform. And he. I'm not saying I think he's good.

But the great ones Win no matter who's around him. And he's not great.

And then there's this argument about who's fifth. And I've always said, you know, whether you want to put Jalen Hurts at fifth, you want to put Justin Herbert, whoever you want to put that Brock Purdy's not in that conversation. No. Because he went to a Super Bowl. He went to an NFC championship.

But I think this is a guy who's younger than Jimmy G was. There have been a lot of injuries, and I still think he has that top 10 potential. And here's the thing. Go look at the NFC west standings. Everybody's still alive. Like the NFC west, whether you think Seattle, the rams, Arizona, the 49ers, everybody still has a chance to win that division and get into the playoffs. So there's still a run here that Brock Purdy can lead his team.

You know, I think Deion, what he's done at Colorado has been unbelievable. And if he took the Bears job, I would get excited. But I also don't think he's the right pick. I'm not sure if he's an NFL guy. I will say I think he'd be better off coaching Caleb Williams than coaching his son in the NFL. But I would tend to think Deion would not be at the top of my choice. But if he gets there, I'll talk myself into it because we'll be the coolest team in the NFL.

I mean, I think if he wants an NFL job at this point, he's going to get an NFL job. So it'd be interesting to see if he's considered in that conversation. Bill Belichick, the legend, what do you do if he calls?

[Myron Metcalf]

So I'm kind of of the belief now in the NFL you need to get offensive minded head coaches, but you can't turn down a legend. If you give Bill Belichick, he's the one guy that, generally speaking, I think when people get a certain age, you don't go with them anymore because I don't think it works. But Belichick will be my one exception. He's smart. He will put a staff around him that knows what to do. The only worry for me is towards the end, he didn't seem to get offensive coordinators that were productive in these last few years. I'd want to know who his offensive coordinator is. But if you promise me a good offensive coordinator and Bill Belichick, I'm good with it.

Can those guys work if they just won't budge on anything and they need full control, does that still work?

[Myron Metcalf]

No. Full control. You gotta have a GM and you also. I gotta know who his offensive coordinator it is. You can't be somebody like, you know, Matt Patricia like he did when he was in New England.

Cliff Kingsbury, who has revitalized his name in the head coaching search after what he's done with the commanders.

I mean, I'm in because of Caleb Williams. You know, he had a good year or two with Kyler Murray. He was a little arrogant. I kind of think it might be a little lane Kiffin with him in the sense of you had to go fail and get your ego bruised a little bit and then you come, I actually think. Because if I didn't have Caleb Williams, no, I wouldn't want Cliff Kingsbury. But you give me Caleb Williams, he succeeded with Kyler Murray. Murray, he's succeeding with Jaden Daniels. I would take Cliff Kingsbury because of.

Our of having Williams can ex defensive coordinators. Can they make it as head coach today or is that over?

I think it's hard. I think you got to pair them with an offensive coordinator that you know.

Is successful, one of your guys you've talked about a lot. If you want to see why Baker Mayfield is arguably playing the best football of his career. Liam Cohen, who has been the offensive coordinator multiple stops college pros, he's now.

[Myron Metcalf]

So here's my message to Chicago Bears fans. Most of you don't know who this person is, but he is on the list. Liam Cohen is the offensive coordinator for Tampa Bay. He was the offensive coordinator at Kentucky when Will Levis was there. This, to me, is a home run hire. If they do it with the names you just read. If Liam Cohen gets the job, there's going to be people disappointed because those names are so big. But Liam Cohen is an offensive. I don't. I don't want to say a savant, but I think he's really good. He basically created an offense out of nowhere at Kentucky. He's the reason Will Levis got drafted. He revitalized Baker Mayfield's career, first with the Rams. People forget he was his coach with the Rams, then took him in Tampa Bay. They've been great. I know him well. He's very smart. Very smart. And to me, smart is more important than anything. Liam Cohen, in my opinion, would be a home run hire if the Bears do it. They almost hired him as the offensive coordinator last year and he ended up in Tampa Bay.

My thing about Liam Cohen is someone's going to do it.

And the same way someone had a shot at Shanahan and Sean McVeigh.

I like Aaron Glenn, but I need to know who you. Look. This. This whole hire is about Caleb Williams.

Yeah.

The Bears defense will take care of itself. You. You have to get Caleb Williams. Right. I don't think you can hire a defensive coordinator when you have to get Caleb Williams. Right. That's. The Bears have never had a talent like this at quarterback. You can't screw it up. So, no, I wouldn't hire Aaron Glenn, but only because I'd hire him in other teams, but I don't know if I would hire him with this Bears team.

All right, here's the guy that I think, if he goes in and interviews and it's a great interview and everything goes well, I think he gets the offer. Ben Johnson, offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions. A lot of people think he's top candidate right now for that.

[Myron Metcalf]

Chicago don't know a lot about him as a. As a coach and a person, but I do know that the Detroit Lions offense has been great. Yeah, I've been reading on him in the last couple days because of that. You know, what he's done with Jared Goff is pretty amazing. Right. And that offense is efficient. It's got weapons. But, like, I think he makes all those weapons better. For instance, I look at a guy like DeAndre Swift, who did very little for the Bears, went there in his. Been successful, so wouldn't be my top choice. But if he. If they got him again, I don't want to screw up Caleb Williams. He looks like a guy who could have success with it.

And then last name real quick. If they decide to move on from him or he decides to move on. Kevin Stefanski is available. What do you do with that?

[Myron Metcalf]

Maybe. I mean, I. I mean, it would.

Have been a guarantee a year ago, right?

Definitely. But, you know, he got worse. Like, they got. Team got worse, the team got much worse. You had a quarterback that, with all the personal issues, still had a ton of talent, and he's been a disaster. I don't know that I blame Stefanski for that, but I also can't say that I'm 100% excited. You know, Caleb Williams, very different, but a unique personality.
