Matt Jones
This is Matt and Myron. The podcast. It's Matt Myron here on ESPN Radio presented by Progressive Insurance. That was just last week. You never know what you're gonna miss.
Myron Metcalf
No.
Matt Jones
Here on Sunday morning. Yeah, it is Meyer Metcalf. I'm Matt Jones. You can text the show on the text machine. 772-774-5254. Used to be most of the texts I would get would be from Kentucky fans. Now starting to get Matt Myron fans from around the country. I enjoy reading them. 772-774-5254. Myron, good to see you. Another big sports weekend. All the sports have something going on. You've been sitting on your couch the whole time watching it.
Myron Metcalf
I've been, I've been watching a lot, man. It's been fun to watch. Other than I set a record at a local arcade. That's a whole nother conversation. So that was kind of.
Matt Jones
Clearly you want to say that. Well, what did you. You don't just bring, I mean, we, literally every major sport has gone on this weekend, but you would like to lead with your arcade. So go ahead.
Myron Metcalf
No, just real quick. You know, the game is the arcade where you shoot the basketball and see how many you can get.
Matt Jones
It's called Papa Shot.
Myron Metcalf
Certain amount of time. I broke the record. I have the high score now. Lights were flashing. People were impressed. A kid was watching me, is impressed. I said, keep working, kid. So, so I hope I encourage them.
Matt Jones
But beyond that, first of all, I don't believe that I've seen the videos with the little guy that just sits there and just takes it over and over and over. There's. You did not break any records.
Myron Metcalf
I had the high score. The lights flashed.
Matt Jones
I'm sure it wasn't just the high score that day. They reset the machines every day at the Chuck E. Cheese.
Myron Metcalf
You always throwing water on my good news. Like, you always like pulling the plug out of something.
Matt Jones
What was the place? Was it Chuck E. Cheese?
Myron Metcalf
It was a Chuck E. Cheese like place out here.
Matt Jones
Also. It wasn't even like, it wasn't even like brand name so it was, it was, it was low budget Chuck E. Ch. What is. What is. What's generic Chuck E. Cheek.
Myron Metcalf
No, there's no generic. It was. It was a big place. It was a big place out here. It's called pins. It's a big place out here.
Matt Jones
Okay.
Myron Metcalf
P I N Z though. So it's a big place.
Jake from Pittsburgh
P I N Z.
Matt Jones
Okay. P I N Z. Because it's a little edgy.
Myron Metcalf
It's a big place out here. But I broke the record. I've never done that. It felt great. So that was cool. But then beyond that, we're watching NBA playoffs. I thought last night's T Wolves Nuggets game was exactly what a rivalry game should be. And I got a lot of joy out of that.
Matt Jones
Well, good. Well, you know, there's been a lot to get to. You had the draft, NBA playoffs, NHL playoffs, baseball. So we might as well get to it. Presented by Progressive Insurance. Progressive Insurance makes bundling home and auto easy. Let's go off the top with progressive dot com. What are we thinking about? I'm trying to think, but nothing happens. Nothing happens. Time to find out.
Myron Metcalf
This is off the top.
Matt Jones
Flash off the top with Matt and Myra. So all the things to go on. When we did our pre show meeting, Myron Metcalf just said, look, we've got to talk Timberwolves Nuggets as if that wasn't going to come up. But he was very adamant that that was the thing that was on his mind the most is the as the Timberwolves without Anthony Edwards and without Dante DiVincenzo hold off and actually pull away from the Nuggets last night to go up 31 at the after game four. Nuggets are now in an elimination stage and maybe not even just elimination of the season. Potentially a whole like, does this roster even work anymore moment if they don't pull out the series. What was your. I know you're a Minnesota guy. Are you excited about your T Wolves?
Myron Metcalf
Well, not my. I mean the. The DT Wolves. Right. But I want to go back to something you said. I was bringing up T Wolves Nuggets in the meeting because nobody was giving me validation. Like, I need someone in meetings to say, hey, Mile, we hear you, man. That's a great idea. And you all just keep moving through the meeting as if I'm not talking. You need to be seen.
Matt Jones
You need to be seen.
Myron Metcalf
I need to be called on in the meeting.
Matt Jones
All right.
Myron Metcalf
I need to be asked, Myron, do you have any good ideas for the show? I need the same idea. And then I need you to say, that's a great idea.
Matt Jones
So you won the argument. You now get to lead with your T. Wolves. Nuggets take. You have the floor.
Myron Metcalf
Thank you very much. I think Nuggets fans, and I think especially their coach is. Is being a little childish and how they're responding to what happened last night. If you didn't see it, Jade McDaniels at the last second, the Timberwolves are up big. He scores on a layup with a second to play. Nuggets don't like that. Jokic charges Adam. A big fight starts, right. And there's this whole sportsmanship thing, conversation that's taking place right now. Here's my thing. In rivalries, there are no rules related to sportsmanship. You're supposed to dislike the other team and you're supposed to do things like James McDaniels did last night. You score at the end of the game because you can, because you don't like them. And I am all in favor of that. In a rivalry game, you can't do that in a regular season. But in the playoffs, when you just don't like another team, I'm all for it.
Matt Jones
I do not understand these sort of unwritten rules in sports in general. First of all, the one that seems the weirdest to me is that don't. I've always believed the don't score at the end of basketball games is so odd to me. I mean, if. Why not Then just say the game is over if you are. So there's still time on the clock.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah.
Matt Jones
This happens a lot in college when they put walk ons in and there'll be 30 seconds left and then they just hold the ball and they don't shoot. And I'm like, these kids have waited their entire life to get to play a game. Can't. Then they're not allowed to shoot because the guys on the benches, feelings will get hurt. I've never understood that. So last night, I'm fine with it.
Myron Metcalf
I thought.
Matt Jones
And yic, who I like, I thought he overreacted. Like, if Jaden McDaniels wants to score, let him score. Now, with that said, if I see Jaden McDaniels trying to score, maybe you foul him. And you know what? And you say, you know what? The game's still playing. You're playing, I'm playing. But this idea that we just all of a sudden collectively have a moment in the game where no longer we're going to try in baseball, they don't tell Guys to strike out at the end of games. Like they, they play. I don't understand. They play in hockey. Like, why can't they play in basketball?
Myron Metcalf
No, you hit, you hit the nail on the head. Like, first off, if I were a walk on one of those teams, I'm shooting every time. You wouldn't. You.
Matt Jones
The crowd is 38 seconds.
Myron Metcalf
I'm going to have nine three point attempts in the chat.
Matt Jones
Brady. Brady. And Brady's just the ball. Like he's somehow an old grandma at the store. Why can't Brady shoot? Now, I'm not saying Jaden McDaniels is Brady, but if he wants a dunk. Dunk.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah. And, and you bring up a good point. I, I also think had one of the Nuggets run down the court and filed him while he was trying to score, that would be fair game too, because it's a rivalry. They don't like each other. Not supposed to like each other.
Matt Jones
They're like the only teams in the NBA, by the way, that seem to not like each other like everything. But it does seem like these groups don't like each other. And I, and I, I like that. I want to ask you. I mean, we don't know about it. We don't have a report on Anthony.
Myron Metcalf
No. He's getting testing today. According to.
Matt Jones
The worst way this could go is the Timberwolves win the series and then both Edwards and Divince will be out. That would be, that would be the, you know, then basically you lose the next series as being interesting. But let's assume he's okay if the Nuggets lose this. I mean, that's a pretty terrible loss for them, isn't it? All things considered, Especially since Anth wasn't 100% and, and you know, you had home court.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah. I mean, I think everything should be in question from coaching on down. I mean, the threat with them has always been, does Yokich really want to stay in Denver the rest of his career? He said that. But, you know, contract wants to go
Matt Jones
back to Serbia and ride horse. I've never seen anybody great at basketball who seemed to enjoy it less well.
Myron Metcalf
And he hasn't had a great series either. I mean, Jokic, the numbers are big, but the efficiency hasn't been there.
Matt Jones
And Rudy, you got to give Rudy a lot of credit. Rudy takes a lot. Rudy Gobert takes a lot of heat. He does for his playoff performances. But I actually think he's been excellent this year.
Myron Metcalf
He's been great defensively. I think you're seeing the limitations of a team that doesn't have that third guy. I mean, Joel Mur and YIC are great. They don't have that kind of.
Matt Jones
Not. He's not 100%.
Myron Metcalf
Not 100%, but, I mean, Michael Porter was. Was the guy who had that before. I think the Timberwolves have already won this series. If Anthony Edwards doesn't come back, they don't have to prove anything beyond that. You lost two team that didn't have Anthony Edwards and Dante Divincenzu Chinzo, and you had nothing to show for. You didn't play well down the stretch. They've lost the series. In my mind already, yeah, I wouldn't say that.
Matt Jones
I don't think it's over, especially if Edwards doesn't play. I think they certainly can still win it. I will note, however, I feel like the Nuggets, outside of Jokic, Murray and Gordon, I don't know if they would even get nil deals in college nowadays. Like, that is the worst supporting group outside of those guys. Because what you're seeing is Minnesota saying, all right, we are not letting Yogic beat us. We are not letting Murray beat us. Yeah, any of the rest of you are allowed to, and no one can. I mean, the rest of the team. And then Jokic, it's making him try to do more, and we're almost seeing the worst version of him right now.
Myron Metcalf
But remember, their championship run was built on depth.
Matt Jones
It was.
Myron Metcalf
They had guys 7, 8, 9 on the bench, but then they've signed. Okay, Christian Brown gets a big deal. He's got to be better in a moment like this. Aaron Gordon has been hurt, obviously, but Michael Porter was a big part of, like, that rotation, so. But to lose to, you know, IO Dumu, by the way, has been the greatest bench player in playoff history to this point, and he. What an amazing pickup for the Timberwolves. But if you lose to a team led by a reserve and Anthony Edwards is out and you're down three to one, I don't care if they win the series. You got to question a lot of things about Denver after this.
Matt Jones
I owe to sumo 43 points.
Myron Metcalf
Incredible.
Matt Jones
And if you'd asked me before the series, I felt like Charles Barkley when they did that. Who he play for? Yeah, if you said I owe to Sumo, who he played for, I might have gotten that wrong. I mean, you. Well, you're smart. Plus, you always. When you're in Papa Shot, you're like, as. You make all those. Yeah, I've gotten it right now, the draft was this weekend as well. I watched quite a bit of it, mostly for Mel Kuiper's hair, but we did get lots of storylines. We will go over the biggest news from the draft. Who won, who lost? That's next here. I'm Matt Myron on ESPN Radio. Matt and Myron, the podcast.

Today it is Matt myron here on ESPN Radio presented by Progressive Insurance. 888- say ESPN. The text machine is 772-774-5254. One person writes in Matt Myron spent time a couple weeks ago going over and over that no team had a third, that that's how the NBA was. And now he says Denver can't win because they don't have a third. Tell Myron Pop a shot shooting self to make up his mind. I don't think the last part was this.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah, I didn't contradict myself. You know you do.
Matt Jones
But I mean he, you are kind. If you don't think any team has a third, then you can't say Denver can't win it cause they don't have a third. Because your premise is that no one has a third.
Myron Metcalf
But my premise is also that you should have a third. You just don't. You know that's on you.
Matt Jones
But you. But he, he says you were saying no team had a third.
Myron Metcalf
Listen man, that was last week. I'm on, I'm on to Cincinnati. What are we talking about? You don't know what I said two weeks ago?
Matt Jones
So you're. You're saying your opinions do not have to be consistent?
Myron Metcalf
I get a clean slate every Sunday.
Matt Jones
Okay, fair.
Myron Metcalf
I wipe the whiteboard clean and I
Matt Jones
guess, yeah, there's no reason. Don't bring up old tapes.
Myron Metcalf
Never would.
Matt Jones
These are current takes.
Marriott Bonvoy Advertiser
I'm.
Myron Metcalf
I'm. I'm freestyling everything.
Matt Jones
Okay, fair enough. Now, the NFL draft was this weekend. Three round or seven rounds, Three days of just excitement. I do have one question for you before we start. This is a. This is sort of a metaphysical question I have. Why do people go to that? Like, what is. First of all, I enjoy watching it on television. I actually think it's a very good television product. Yeah, but why do people go and stand and watch it? Especially after round one when the players aren't there? What is. What is the point?
Myron Metcalf
I think those are the Die Hards.
Matt Jones
But what are they doing there? Like, what. What.
Myron Metcalf
What is their cup?
Matt Jones
But okay, just.
Myron Metcalf
That doesn't.
Matt Jones
When they're actually there for those six hours, what is happening?
Myron Metcalf
They're waiting to see who their team might pick.
Matt Jones
But what do you mean? They're just standing there and then someone goes, John Jenkins.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah, they're diehards.
Matt Jones
But what are they doing? Are they literally just supporting their team
Myron Metcalf
by supporting their team? Yeah, they're waiting for their team to make a selection.
Matt Jones
And then what?
Myron Metcalf
And then they lose it. They cheer, they go, they. Or they boo. You know, like they react in the moment. So I think the draft is where your team gets better, sets the stage. Would you.
Matt Jones
I mean, let me be honest with me, because I love the draft. Again, as a TV or radio production. Yeah, but would you go and stand in the crowd? I can't think of anything that sounds more miserable than being one of hundreds of thousands of people standing there just looking at a man come up and read a card off a microphone.
Myron Metcalf
Well, I don't stand at events that I pay for. I need a table. So, I mean, that, that would. That would eliminate things for me personally.
Matt Jones
Bougie Myers. But if you were a member of the rest of us, the masses.
Myron Metcalf
Yes. I feel like those fans, when you see them, I feel like they. They believe they are the most loyal Die Hard fans.
Matt Jones
Okay, maybe they are. But is it an enjoyable experience?
Myron Metcalf
I think being. I think it's a status symbol.
Matt Jones
I think if you go to a status of what?
Myron Metcalf
That. That you're all in for your team when you see jets fans. First off, the only time we see jets fans are at the draft, right? Like, that's the only time that people make a big deal about jets fans. But I feel like when you see them, you understand that whoever showed up to the draft and represented those are real fans.
Matt Jones
I also think they're kind of bogus, because what will happen is. All right, so the draft was in Pittsburgh, right?
Myron Metcalf
Yeah.
Matt Jones
They will show a group of Arizona Cardinal fans sitting together. Now I have the moment. I always have a few questions. First of all, how do they all end up seated next to each other? Did they. They're always, like, together. There's, like 12 of them. Did they just go around the crowd looking for a Cardinals fan and say, come over here. So then they're all seen together. Then one of them is always painted their face and has. Has a mohawk and you're like, did you. Did you take that through tsa? Is that really how you traveled there from Phoenix? And then third, I don't care who they say.
Myron Metcalf
They.
Matt Jones
They'll say some random offensive lineman from Boston College, and they cheer, and I
Myron Metcalf
want to look at them and go,
Matt Jones
you don't know who that is. Stop cheering. You don't know who that person is. But they act happy no matter what they say. And I just. I wonder about those people. Who are they? How do they get there? Why do they go. I don't understand those people.
Myron Metcalf
Ask the people. Okay, well, there you go.
Matt Jones
888, say ESPN. The draft was just in Pittsburgh. Have you ever been, A, been to the draft to watch, and B, have you ever been one of the people to, like, dress up and paint your face and if so, why? That's. That's a. That's my question. This is like, I'm not trying to make fun. It's a genuine general inquiry. 888 say ESPN. Who are you people and what is wrong with you? 888 say ESPN. Now, the actual draft. Mendoza goes first. Then starting with the third pick, when Jeremiah Love goes, it kind of all goes different. If you had gotten the first five picks correct, it was like 150 to 1. Were you surprised at Jeremiah Love going 3 and then Carnell Tate going for.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah, that's a terrible pick at three. It just is. And the Jeremiah Love people, he's great. Like I said, it seems like he's marketable. It seems like he says all the right things and he's a great player. Like, make no mistake, you. You can't be a serious franchise with the third pick and then you pick a running back.
Beth Anne from Arkansas
Why?
Matt Jones
Well, I mean, you can saquon Barkley, would you agree, was worth it?
Myron Metcalf
Not in this generation. Not in this era. I mean, I think, I think he was worth it.
Matt Jones
I mean, he was pretty amazing. Like, now that now you. Your case can be made that the other guys that have gone the top five were not worth it. But if you hit it, isn't it worth it?
Myron Metcalf
Well, but who. But the Giants didn't hit it. Yeah, and he won a championship.
Matt Jones
Yeah, but he was great for the Giants.
Myron Metcalf
But my point is, you're not going to build a successful franchise around a top five running back. It's just never going to happen.
Matt Jones
But you put. You might if you also have Marvin Harrison. And then next year you'll get your quarterback. Like you. I can see it. I'm with you. Like, I would rather have him have gone to a team that was better. Like, I think perfect for him is if he slips to like the Chiefs. That wasn't going to happen. But I get it for him. I don't know that I would pick anyone but him. But I can understand for him. I mean, there are people who had him ranked as the number one player in the draft. Fine.
Myron Metcalf
You can't pick a running back in the first round and be a serious.
Matt Jones
So when is it okay to pick him?
Myron Metcalf
I think you pick up running back. A good running back goes in the second round, in my opinion.
Matt Jones
So you would say, you would say Barry Sanders is in the draft and you can't pick him till the second round.
Myron Metcalf
You always do like pre Wi Fi stuff. I mean, I can't.
Matt Jones
I can't say Juan Barkley. You're saying Saquon Barkley's in the draft. You can't pick him till the second round.
Myron Metcalf
I'm not picking a running back until the second round because there's no way that if you're desperate for. There's no way that running back is the number one thing you need to be a competitive playoff team. The Cardinals don't have a quarterback. Like, the Cardinals need a.
Matt Jones
But let's say they look at Ty Simpson and say they don't want him.
Myron Metcalf
Okay, that, that's fine. You can trade down and still get a really good running back in other draft picks. Like, it's not that Jeremiah Lovett is a great player. Like, I got a bunch of Notre Dame people. He's an incredible player. Maybe he is the most talented guy in this draft. But in terms of the value at that position, there's just no way you can pick a running back at the third spot if you're the car.
Matt Jones
See I didn't mind Jeremiah Love. I actually had more problem with Carnell Tate at 4. If I'm, if I'm Tennessee because I'm Tennessee now I need a blue chipper and I'm not sure Tate is that. I'm not even sure if he's the best receiver in this draft. Yeah, like I was, I was very surprised because he is not a guy that like wows you. There were a lot of times last year on his own team where he wasn't the top receiver. Right. And so the idea that you would then pick him number one is the four with your fourth pick. I'm just surprised. I thought the rest of the Titans draft actually thought they did a really good job but I didn't really understand that one.
Myron Metcalf
Well, they picked him because they think he's going to be the next great Ohio State receiver. Like there's been like six guys. There have but been really good.
Matt Jones
There have and that's usually, you know, you Kentucky guards, Ohio State receivers, like there are things that seem to work but I, I don't know. I just think I wouldn't have taken him there. But I'm all right with Jeremiah now. People who call who went to the draft tell me is it worth it. 888 says PN Matt and Myron the pod.

Matt Marin here on Sunday morning on ESPN Radio. The longest running show on ESPN Radio. A lot of people don't know it because a lot of people don't know us. But you do. And that's a feather in your cap. Why do people say that feather in your cap?
Myron Metcalf
I don't know. I don't. I mean who decided feathers were cool?
Matt Jones
Rachel, look this up. Does that mean like a feather? Like you killed a bird and you put it in to show that you had killed it and so it was a feather in probably where does that. Because that seems like a slogan we didn't need to pass into modern times. No, but it has, it has survived.
Myron Metcalf
It's always like a peacock feather, too, right? Like, that's the cool one.
Matt Jones
While Rachel looks it up, we do have some breaking news. Oh, you got it. Go ahead.
Rachel (Research Assistant)
I got it. According to a quick research, the phrase likely stems from the ancient custom of warriors in various cultures adding a new feather to their headgear for every enemy slain or significant accomplishment.
Matt Jones
So it also was.
Myron Metcalf
Oh, it's about killing.
Matt Jones
Problematic too.
Myron Metcalf
Maybe we need to end that.
Matt Jones
We need to move on. Maybe we've learned that that's some cultural appropriate.
Myron Metcalf
I gotta tell my uncles about that, man. I don't think they know. All they got are feathers in their caps. I gotta, gotta tell them the history, man.
Matt Jones
Yeah, yeah. All right, well, we'll end that phrase. Shams Sharanya is reporting that Anthony Edwards has sustained a bone bruise and hypertension in his left knee. You heard this on SportsCenter just a minute ago. And is expected to miss multiple weeks. Sources tell him he will be out for the rest of the series. Now, do you still not think Denver can come back?
Myron Metcalf
Well, my point was, like, Minnesota has already achieved something by what they did without Anthony Edwards, but now you're talking about a team that had a chance to beat Denver to maybe make it interesting in the next round. That's probably over with. So that's just really sad news for the Timbrels for Anthony Edwards. Dante DiVincenzo is out as well. You just, you hate to see a team reach that kind of a high and have to deal with that misfortune.
Matt Jones
Yeah, well, I think it definitely gives Denver a chance. And if they don't win now, then it's really worth criticism. Fire everybody. I mean, if you don't be, they
Myron Metcalf
don't come back in this series.
Matt Jones
Fire Julius Randall led Timberwolves team. You're going to be in trouble. All right, My question was, why would anyone go to the draft? Because it looks like 820,000 people went this weekend. By the way, I'm not saying the NFL or our good friends at ESPN are expanding in the crowd, but these crowds for the drafts are starting to be like Yokozuna's weight in the wwe. It just keeps going up. Like they go, Yokozuna weighs 750 pounds, 900 pounds. You're like, he didn't put on 150 pounds since SummerSlam. I, I do wonder about these crowds because they keep Saying there's more people every year. Byron, some point like they're going to be telling us the whole population's at the draft.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah. And I don't know who's actually counted. Like it's. Are they just sending somebody out there and they just kind of look it out into the crowd and guess?
Matt Jones
Or five, seven. Oh, wait a minute. I counted you. I don't know. All right, but. But we have people on here who have been to the draft. Sean in Wisconsin has been twice. Sean, you've. So you went once and decided to do it again.
Myron Metcalf
Why?
Sean from Wisconsin
Yeah, you can hear me.
Matt Jones
Just, just talk. Just assume when you go. When I say your name, I just want everyone to know.
Myron Metcalf
Just assume.
Matt Jones
I can hear you.
Sean from Wisconsin
Go ahead. Hey. Okay, first of all, first of all, I love your accents. You sound like. Like you would be calling Grandma Memaw.
Matt Jones
Okay? I don't need you to come on and start calling me a hick. All right? I'm just, I'm ready. I'm just want you to talk about the draft.
Sean from Wisconsin
All right? The NFL, they make it. It's an experience. It's not just those people standing. It's. If you've gone to a Super bowl or have heard what they do before a Super bowl, that's what they're doing. They're playing example what's happening on the backside. Yeah. You. You got people standing there, they're drinking a beer. They're having fun, conversating with each other. They're around other NFL people that love the NFL.
Matt Jones
And everybody just described a sports bar.
Myron Metcalf
What makes this unique is what we're trying to get at.
Sean from Wisconsin
What? Well, what's unique is on the outside is family oriented. You see the. All those people standing there, all these
Matt Jones
families just watching people drink beer.
Sean from Wisconsin
You're not seeing is the experience that you're getting along with that. First of all, it's free, not the beer, okay? Being there is free.
Myron Metcalf
Okay. That's a big part of it.
Sean from Wisconsin
Then you asked how, you asked how do the people get in those groups? They have a. They have these rails there where you can't get past. Right.
Matt Jones
So you still haven't told me what you're doing. You keep saying there's other things to do. Like what?
Sean from Wisconsin
They got the 40 yard dash. They got the.
Myron Metcalf
Hold on a second, man. Wait a minute.
Matt Jones
Hold on a second. Appreciate the call.
Myron Metcalf
They got a bunch of fans getting in for free drinking and they put them on the.
Matt Jones
Now, I meant to tell you, that sounds entertaining to me. If you're telling me that all Those people I watch on TV are doing 40 yard dashes. I actually would enjoy that.
Myron Metcalf
Sean is talking about some off the books events. I don't think any of that stuff he described, I just argue was official.
Matt Jones
You know, I would say Myron would be. The most fun thing in the world is to go to the 40 yard dash and set up a bet on those people running just based they walk up and you have to bet on their time.
Myron Metcalf
Better they. Better they don't stumble.
Matt Jones
That's a heck of a lot more fun than watching the actual draft.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah, but they won't stump.
Matt Jones
Maybe Bethan in Arkansas can give a better case for the draft than Sean did. Go ahead, Beth Anne.
Beth Anne from Arkansas
What's on TV is not representative of what's really there. They have various venues where you can go in and you see all the helmets of the teams and the trophies and there's various booths all around the stadium. We went to Lambeau last year.
Myron Metcalf
It's a county fair.
Beth Anne from Arkansas
They have autograph sessions.
Matt Jones
Okay, so. Okay, that's a good one. Autograph sessions. Who's there to get autographs from?
Beth Anne from Arkansas
Well, you had to stand in line, but it was at the end of the line.
Myron Metcalf
What some old school player, right? Like usually.
Matt Jones
But who, like when you, when you stand in the line, who's there to sign?
Beth Anne from Arkansas
Dorsey Levins was there and various Packer players. There weren't any non Packer players signing.
Matt Jones
Because you went to the one in Green Bay. Okay, gotcha.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah, I mean, listen, I love Dorsey Levins. I, you know, grew up as a Green Bay fan. But you can get a Dorsey Levins autograph probably at the Green Bay ymca. I bet if you want to,
Matt Jones
you
Myron Metcalf
got to stand in line for it.
Matt Jones
All right. There's going to be somebody make a better case. I will say watch people run 40. Roger drove people running a 40 yard dash. But I think that mean to be fun.
Myron Metcalf
I think that was just Sean and his friends though. I don't think that was like an official event.
Matt Jones
So I, I was, I was at
Myron Metcalf
the draft in Pittsburgh.
Matt Jones
Jake is in Pittsburgh. James, you can finish it. Let's let Jake in Pittsburgh give his take. Go ahead, Jake.
Jake from Pittsburgh
How we doing guys? Miss you every week. Thanks for having me on. I never traveled to any of them before, but this year was in my city, so I definitely made it a point to go down. It's a very festival atmosphere they've got. Although I basically ate and drank myself across the North Shore for the most part you get to stand in line. Like Dan Caller was saying, there's many different autograph sessions you could get. You could go up and see the different Lombardi trophies that your. Your favorite team has many celebrities.
Matt Jones
So give me an example, though. Give me example of some of the celebrities. Like, who are the celebrities?
Myron Metcalf
Who'd you see?
Jake from Pittsburgh
We've got to see Cam. Cam Hayward. Terry Bradshaw.
Myron Metcalf
Okay. That's big.
Jake from Pittsburgh
Just a couple. Yeah.
Sean from Wisconsin
Yeah.
Matt Jones
So Terry Bradshaw, that's been to Pittsburgh. I've been to a festival in Pittsburgh that a lot of people around the country might not know about called Pickle Festival, where they have, like, pickle, like what? This is not something I do in my spare time. This is actually a festival called.
Myron Metcalf
You say things like, it's not gonna be the most surprising thing to the rest of you.
Matt Jones
It's not. It's not exactly what I was gonna say. It's called Pickle Fest, and they have pickle juice drinking contest.
Myron Metcalf
Oh, man. You all go to a festival around pickles, and you think it's just normal. I think it's actually called Picklesburg, right?
Matt Jones
Yeah. Well, the part of town I think they call Picklesburg, and then they have pickled and everything's pickle themed. You can get pickled chicken, pickle sandwiches. You got. There's all kinds of pickle.
Myron Metcalf
Don't let white people get bored. They will come up with a festival on you that you have never heard of in your life, man.
Matt Jones
Well, this is a massive festival. Wait a minute. You didn't hang up on that guy, did you? I had a question for it.
Myron Metcalf
No, he's still there.
Matt Jones
He's still there. Okay, so I've been to Pickle Festival. I've seen all the things that go into Pickle Fest. There's dancing pickles, everything. There's pickle related pickles. They're dancing pickles. What do you mean, dancing pickles? There are people in pickle costumes and they dance.
Myron Metcalf
Do you know how crazy this. You say this with a straight face.
Matt Jones
Well, I've been. All right, so my question for you, guy from Pittsburgh, whatever his name was, Jake, Is this more fun or less fun than pickle fish?
Jake from Pittsburgh
Oh, it was way more fun than Picklesburg. I don't eat so many pickles.
Myron Metcalf
But Picklesburg's a. Picklesburg is a city. Is it a city?
Matt Jones
It's like Pittsburgh, but Picklesburg.
Myron Metcalf
What are you. Y' all are speaking a different language right now, and no one listening.
Matt Jones
Understand?
Myron Metcalf
Y' all are speaking Pittsburgh. Can you translate for the masses?
Rachel (Research Assistant)
They take a section of Pittsburgh where the festival is, okay? This is what I'm understanding from listening to these two. I've never been to Picklesburg. Don't plan on going.
Matt Jones
I like how the one person has
Rachel (Research Assistant)
not been is extreme because you guys aren't making any sense to Myron. Trying to translate.
Myron Metcalf
Thank you, Rachel.
Rachel (Research Assistant)
They take that section of Pittsburgh for the festival and name it Picklesburg, and
Matt Jones
everything is pickle related, right? Like, there's pickle music, there's pickle food, there's pickle dancers. People are dressed as a pickle. And sir, why did they go back? Why do they do that?
Jake from Pittsburgh
I really don't know. It's just as far as I'm looking, it's been. That's what's been going on. And it gets bigger and better every year.
Myron Metcalf
Cash you a question. From 0 to 10, how many brothers did you see
Jake from Pittsburgh
at the draft or the Pickles? The pickles probably 40%.
Matt Jones
40%. 40% brothers at Pickensburg.
Myron Metcalf
What is Pittsburgh?
Matt Jones
See? See? You want to find racial unity in America, Go to Picklesburg.
Myron Metcalf
Listen, man, I've never heard of Pickle festival, and for you to tell me is this diverse fest full of Pickles is the craziest thing I've ever heard.
Matt Jones
There you go.
Myron Metcalf
Now I have to go.
Matt Jones
This is what you learn from Matt Myron. Now, there were other news surrounding the draft, including a coach that skipped the third day of the draft for counseling. We'll say why and whether or not that was a good decision. And maybe more about Pickles. That's next here. I'm Matt Myron on espn. Matt and Myron, the podcast.

Got a lot of people writing the text machine taken up for Pickle Fest 772-774-5254 is the text machine. If you want to text in your thoughts, Matt Myron on ESPN Radio, one person writes, Matt, I've been to Pickle Fest many times. I don't know if it's 40% brothers, but there is a lot of diversity. I think it brings together Pittsburghians better than any event in the city.
Myron Metcalf
You know, I didn't realize that, so I stand corrected. My guess is because everybody has to walk up a hill to get anywhere, that kind of unifies the whole city a little bit, but I didn't realize that.
Matt Jones
One person writes, the callers are proving your point that going to the NFL draft is crazy. That's not very nice.
Myron Metcalf
But they did say it was free, which explains the fat There's a certain segment of fans, if you say free, they're going.
Matt Jones
They'll go to anything, right? Yes. Yeah. People like free. Yes. If you, if you want to know how much society likes free, go watch it. When they shoot shirts out at a game, you will see billionaires beating up children for a free T shirt, a T shirt that you couldn't make them take if you handed it to them when they walked in. If it's shot out of a cannon and free Myron, they will hurt someone
Myron Metcalf
for did you see the Rockies fan who caught a ball this week in the stands and almost killed himself? I think it was a Rockies fan, this guy Dole for a baseball and literally almost died just trying to get a baseball. Like, people are wild for stuff like
Matt Jones
that, you know, I've had season tickets to the Reds now for nine years.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah.
Matt Jones
And I've never caught a foul ball and really never been close. The one time I was close, I ended up losing my iPhone. So I've never even tried before.
Myron Metcalf
It's not worth it.
Matt Jones
It's not worth it. All right. Speaking of not worth it, the Mike Vrabel of the New England Patriots skipped the last day of the draft, a Patriots draft where they had a lot of made a couple trades and selected six players because he was, quote, with his family attending counseling. After the story came out this week, what came out like last week. But more pictures came out from the New York Post of him hugging and holding hands with Diana Rossini, who was with the Athletic. The Patriots executive Elliot Wolf said last Night, we kind of talked through and made the decision that the time away really needs to be time and away. So we were not in contact with Mike today other than just seeing if he's okay now. Earlier, Mike Vrabel had said that he would be in contact all day, so it's not really clear whether he was in contact or not. Okay. So this is a hard story for people to talk about in the business because they know the reporter and, you know, she. She's been on this show over the years and has been very nice. I don't know her, but she's always been on here. So I'm not even. I don't really have a strong comment about the. Whether or not they had a relationship. Whatever. Like, honestly, that's. Whatever. That's up to them. I will say, though, the part of this that's absolutely insane to me is how it was handled from a PR perspective. Because from a PR perspective, this was about as bad a disaster as you could have. First of all, the kind of, at least, if not lying, certainly mistruths at the beginning saying nothing happened, when clearly now we see there was something going on. But then this whole idea of, I'm going to be with my family and we need counseling, but only starting on day three of the draft.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah.
Matt Jones
You know, day one and two.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah. Gotta be there for that.
Matt Jones
My family is the most important thing. Except the first three rounds.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah.
Matt Jones
I slot them in at the start of the fourth round.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah.
Matt Jones
That's, to me, ridiculous, Myron. It just is. I mean, people need to call spade a spade. That is a ridiculous excuse that I don't even understand how someone can make with a straight face.
Myron Metcalf
Well, and it. It. It just. It contradicts everything he said because, you know, he went from. It was laughable to, you know, Richard Nixon. Mistakes were made in his last press,
Matt Jones
which is a lie. It's just a lie. You go from. He goes from going at the press.
Myron Metcalf
Yep.
Matt Jones
To essentially acknowledging he. I mean, so he's just lies.
Myron Metcalf
And then he then reaching a point like a lot of people reaching in this situation where you've been, you know, you've been exposed. Like, people know what's going on.
Matt Jones
Yes.
Myron Metcalf
So now he comes out and says, hey, my family's important. I'm going to therapy. It's a priority. And then he waits until Saturday to do it. Like, at the end of the day, there was so many missteps.
Matt Jones
So explain to me that. Just that thought process. Who had the bright idea to say, like, there's two ways in my opinion, you could handle it.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Just miss the draft or stay through Saturday. Yeah. What is the logic behind I'm skipping Saturday but not Thursday and Friday?
Myron Metcalf
I think the logic is you want to show that you care about what's going on, that it's important to you, but you also want to show your fans that you're still invested. None of it makes sense. I'm not saying there's sort of this logical progression here, but here's the problem. When you start with the jokes on you all, everything you're saying is wrong, and you know that that's not true. Then you don't have any control of what happens from there. So now you're just reacting. And here's my thing. You know, people get through challenging situations. You know, there are people who think, oh, it's over for Mike Vrabel. The NFL is going to roll on no matter what. I mean, this is just another thing that's happening. NFL.
Matt Jones
No, it is. And Mike Vrabel is going to keep being a coach.
Myron Metcalf
Yes.
Matt Jones
But.
Myron Metcalf
But the challenge Mike Rabel is going to have is the faith family football guys.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Myron Metcalf
You can't. Are held to a certain standard.
Matt Jones
They are.
Myron Metcalf
And to me, I don't know if he can get back what he's lost in terms of his record, but I
Matt Jones
have to tell you, I'm going to be honest with you. And. And people can disagree with this, and that's fine. I mean, everybody. I. I once knew a guy in the town where I grew up in Middlesboro that said that said to me, if somebody has to tell you how much money they have, then they don't have that much money.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Like when you. When people got to tell you how rich they are, then really they're probably not as rich as they act like. I've always had the same view about faith family kind of things. If you really are a man of faith and you really are a family person, you don't need to tell me. You just live it. Right. Like you live it when you bad. When you throw it down my throat, I start to go. And I think part of the reason, like Dabo Sweeney drives me crazy is he says all this stuff and then he's doing. You know, he always tries to act like he's above it in his khaki pants and all that. Frable has not struck me as being like that. But you're right. Vrabel has always been family, faith football. Family, faith football. And I do think once you've pierced that veil. Now, dude, stop with your lectures and just coach football. That's kind of just the way I feel about it.
Myron Metcalf
And I think you, you hit it. Matt, I don't think you can coach the same way. Right. Because I don't think you can walk in a room for the 20 something year olds.
Matt Jones
Do you think they care, though? Do you think the players care?
Myron Metcalf
I don't think the guys who are trying to make the team have any time to care. They don't care if Mike Rabel's there or of some assistant. They might not even interact with the Mike Rabels of the world. Right. But the guys who run the locker room, they better have your back. And I'm sure right now they do. Yeah, that's because they're coming off of a Super Bowl. That's because things are great right now on the field. If that changes, then I think this.
Matt Jones
I think it'll be more of a thing in a PR perspective than with the team. I would guess the players don't care. I mean, my guess is there's a lot of shadiness going on in every locker room to some extent. So, you know, but your coach is
Myron Metcalf
viewed as the one who's setting that example. And Mike Vrabel himself has said he didn't set that example. So I think that's something you got
Matt Jones
to winning back but earn back. Here's the thing with. In terms of Rabel and Rossini, they both can have done this and I still think they can both be good people and shouldn't, like have their lives ruined. With that said, I don't want to hear that dude lecture people about anything anymore. Not only did he do it, he lied about it consistently and he like. And that's the part where I go, I'm sorry. I'm tired of people who act like they are above everyone in terms of morals, who then do it up until the second they get caught. Because he was doing it up until this last set of pictures came and then he was like, all right, now I guess I have to stop. That, to me, is a lot harder to overlook. I don't really care so much about the act. It's the line that I find a little much. We'll do more on Anthony. Anthony Edwards knee injury. He's out for at least the rest of this series. It's Matt Myron. Matt and Myron.
