This is Matt and Myron the podcast.
Aaron Goldhammer
Good evening.
Matt Jones
Sunny morning here, Matt Myron on ESPN Radio presented by Progressive Insurance. It is a beautiful day in Louisville, Kentucky where I am. Aaron Goldhammer is filling in for Myron. He is in Cleveland, Ohio, I believe, which I don't know what the weather is, but you know, people don't think it's beautiful, but I'm sure it's beautiful in the eyes of the beholder. Right.
Aaron Goldhammer
I have a gorgeous view right now of the Cuyahoga river and it is a picture perfect. If the weather was like this Matt here, you know, 300 days a year, Cleveland would be the biggest city in.
Matt Jones
The world, I would think. Is the Cuyahoga river swimmable or is it like, is it dirt? Is it like the Ohio river in Cincinnati where you need to only get in if you're not wanting to get out?
Aaron Goldhammer
So I'm on the east bank of the flats and then there's a west bank of the flats. And if people get drunk enough partying, there have been instances where they've tried to jump in the river and swim to the bar that's over on the other side, which is a terrible idea.
Matt Jones
Dude, that sounds awful. It's come out of the water like river water and then go into the bar.
Aaron Goldhammer
That sounds awful. I would not recommend going into the beautiful Cuyahoga. This is the famous river that haha caught on fire.
Matt Jones
Oh, that's right. Yeah, I caught on fire. That's true.
Aaron Goldhammer
Well, and, and there is, but there is a water taxi right in front of me. I'm seeing the people go back and forth on the water taxi.
Matt Jones
You have waterfront property. Who knew Aaron Goldhamer was so rich? Well, since I'm dealing with Andrew Rockefeller Goldhammer here, the he probably would have found a way to get out of the situation that occurred last night in Bristol, Tennessee. I'll remind you that Sunday Morning is presented by Progressive Insurance. Protect the stuff you love with renters Insurance. Visit progressive.com let's talk about what happened in the mountains of East Tennessee. What are we thinking about? I'm trying to think, but nothing happens. Nothing happens. Time to find out. This is off the top, Flash. Off the top with Matt and Myron. Now, I legitimately think this is the biggest story of the morning, but it would have been the biggest story whether it was or not, because it's close to my heart. All right, so you got the hills, East Tennessee, where my family comes from and where very close to where I grew up. I was so excited. My childhood favorite team, the Atlanta Braves, now last night was to play my current favorite team, the Cincinnati Reds. I'm the only person that left the Braves as they started to get good. And they're playing at the Bristol Motor Speedway, set to break the attendance record for the MLB Speedway Classic. It was supposed to be the most people to watch a baseball game in one place ever. And it may still have been, except the game didn't so much happen. Well, they got a half inning out of it. Rain, as anybody who's a NASCAR fan in the summer can tell you. It rains. And it rained last night and it rained just enough to ruin it. Didn't rain during the day. Started during the Pit Bull concert, which is symbolic in my opinion, and then went on and off through the thing. Then they tried to start the game. They got an inning. Didn't even get a full inning. Got a few, but got the Braves half. Got one, two or three, like three batters for the Reds. And then the reigns kept going and they stopped. There were puddles on the field. There was, it was, it really was kind of a funny circus as the fox people tried to keep people interest, but having people like run around in golf carts and. And then the fox tent fell over with water in the stands. There was more chaos. They ran out of food, they ran out of soda. And at one point the only drinks that were being sold were water and tequila, which is a good way to have a crowd exactly where you need them. I was so excited about this game. I thought it was going to be so good for baseball. First baseball game ever played in the state of Tennessee, 85,000 people. They thought it could get up to a hundred by the time the first pitch was thrown. And now it ended up being postponed. They'll play it today at 1 o', clock, but I'm afraid it's going to be like no one there because a lot of people had to go home. And it was apparently for the people that attended, not the most fun experience last night as they all ended up drenched and drinking tequila. Aaron, you know, I'm a Reds fan, so I was watching all of it. What do you think of what happened last night in Bristol? Is this the fire fest for Major League Baseball?
Aaron Goldhammer
I wouldn't go that far. I'd say it's more like woodstock99 than the fire fest. Okay, here I have many questions about the whole set. Do they not have meteorologists in Bristol, Tennessee? Because it should have been pretty obvious just looking at the radar mat that I have on my phone that they were not going to get that game in.
Matt Jones
Well, I know clear what they wanted to do is they were like, you know, they were desperate to play the game that night. And I can give you just some practical reasons why. One, the Reds and Braves have both played like 12 straight days, right? They would have had Sunday off. And I think both teams just for pitching, staff management and stuff wanted Sunday off.
Aaron Goldhammer
I understand the Reds.
Matt Jones
Here's another thing though, and I don't know how they fixed this. There were no hotel rooms for the Reds or the Braves. You know, they had not left hotel rooms because they thought the teams were going to fly home. Everything's booked up. I mean that's a very small area. Everything's booked up. So they have nowhere for these people to stay. So I think it was. Well, but where are you going to put them? You can't put them out on a tent. Like you got to do something with them.
Aaron Goldhammer
But. But it's a baseball game in Tennessee in August. The odds of rain are not zero.
Matt Jones
They're very high. Ask anybody who's tried to go to a Bristol NASCAR race in August and.
Aaron Goldhammer
They'Ll tell you ok, you plan events inside, outside, all that you have to take into account if you're doing for people that don't know Matt is a big wrestling promoter is involved. If you've got an outdoor event, Matt, you have to take rain into account.
Matt Jones
Where are you going to take 85,000 people? They don have a place in Bristol to put all those people. They can't take them to the Crystal.
Aaron Goldhammer
So. So there's strategy. Rob Manfred's strategy was just hope doesn't.
Matt Jones
It was. I think the strategy was not a strategy.
Aaron Goldhammer
Dumbest thing I've ever heard in my life. Look, if you're gonna do this and it was cool and seeing all day the pictures of the racetrack with the baseball field on the infield and the. The whole concept of it, there was a lot of good juice there. But somebody with major league baseball or somebody in the great state of Tennessee had to say what are we going to do if it rains? This is not a typical rain out situation. Where you could just reschedule the next day. So I don't know where the team slept, to be honest.
Matt Jones
See where they slept, because that was part of the problem is they didn't have anywhere for him to sleep. I don't know. I don't understand how. I mean, Bristol has hosted races with more people than were there last night. So I don't know how it is. They ran out of food. That. That's the part that I don't get. They were serving hot dogs with no buns. Can you imagine going to Bristol and just getting, like a wiener dog just in your hand? They were just handing people these dogs. I don't understand that. I do like that they kept the tequila. This is not a, you know, we're. We're whiskey and beer, I guess, in East Tennessee.
Aaron Goldhammer
But how do you run out of soda like that? That is.
Matt Jones
I don't know how you run out of soda. I feel like soda is the one thing everybody has. But they did, apparently. So it was a disaster. Now, I thought part of what was going to be cool about this is the reason it was the Braves and the Reds is that's where the fans of those two teams are, right? Like. Like, so, you know, Kentucky and part of Tennessee and Virginia are Reds fans. And then you get in the South, Tennessee, Georgia tend to be mostly Braves fans. There were a lot of people there. It clearly was successful in getting people. I thought the cars and the. You know, Tyler Stevenson was a catcher, and he had the Ricky Bobby catching gear on. I thought that was cool. It was also a great chance for the world to discover Ellie De La Cruz, who I've been talking about on this show for three years. But a lot of people don't know because the Reds haven't been good. But then there's a practical impact I do want to note, because you said starting the game was a big deal. The Brave season's over, but the Reds are fighting for a playoff spot, Right? And they started Chase Burns, and now he's pulled out of the game. He got the fight. He got to pitch one inning, and now he can't pitch today. They're going to have to play a reliever game while the Braves, and maybe they had better radar. They saw it was going to rain, they pulled their starter, started a reliever, and now we'll get to start him today. So maybe they. They were smarter, but. But baseball had to sit there and think, yeah, this game may not mean anything for the Braves, but it does mean something for the Reds.
Aaron Goldhammer
They didn't care. They didn't.
Matt Jones
It was clear they didn't care. It was all about the show and.
Aaron Goldhammer
They really wanted to pull this. It was, you know, national tv. You had Fox there. You had a lot of buzz and juice for it. And this series has been really successful. Matt, I think overall they played last year the game at Rickwood, which was really emotional and hit a powerful note. The field of dreams that Tim Anderson walked.
Matt Jones
I'm sure they were trying to recreate that White Sox, Yankees thing, which was awesome.
Aaron Goldhammer
Yeah. But you're telling me that nobody in the offices of major league baseball thought to themselves, what are we going to do if it rains? This had to be a consideration. The other thing you always see with baseball games is, Matt, if there's chance that the rain is going to continue, they just don't start the game because they know if a pitcher throws one inning or a couple of pitches, you burn that pitcher and then you could totally mess up the team that's trying to win the game because you can't come back. What would they have done if it had been a two hour delay? Well, Chase Burns would have been out of the game anyway. He'd have been out of the game regardless. So I the. The whole decision to start the game and the lack of concrete planning around what to do if they were going to get rain. It's not like rain is a rarity. It's not like there was a 2%.
Matt Jones
Chance bringing Pitbull that was the problem because Pitbull is. Pitbull ultimately is a curse to anywhere you take him. I don't understand why he was there. I was impressed with how strong Tim McGraw has gotten. I mean, it looks like he basically has used Ozempic and HGH during the. Since the last time I've seen him. I was very upset that of all the Tim McGraw songs, the one he decided to sing was Truck. Yeah. I hate that song worse than anything. Tim McGraw has so many good songs and he comes out there and sings Truck. Yeah. And I was so mad, I thought, you know what? They deserve the rain. They brought Pit bull. They brought Truck. Yeah. And that's why they got the rain. And as a Reds fan here it was. Let me tell you a little secret. Since 2016, Sunday Night Baseball, which. What's the game tonight? Tigers. Phillies.
Aaron Goldhammer
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Is that the game tonight? Tigers. Phillies. I saw a stat since 2016, guess how many times the Reds have been on Sunday Night Baseball.
Aaron Goldhammer
010.
Matt Jones
There's only two teams in the in baseball that have not been on the Blue Jays and us. And that's it. So this was our chance. We got a nice suit. We got a new tie. We went and got a haircut. We got Ellie to come. We had our hot young picture, Chase Burns. But they brought pitbull and Tim McGraw saying, Truck. Yeah. And the Reds were cursed. And now we'll lose today because we're pitching like you, Aaron Goldhammer, because we don't have any pitchers yet.
Aaron Goldhammer
Right.
Matt Jones
So this is a very frustrating thing. Terry Francona, they asked him before the game, the manager, they were like, do you think things are going to go well? And he could tell it wasn't. He was like, well, this is good for baseball, so I'm going to deal with it. And when I heard that, I thought, oh, we're in for some stuff. And that's what happened. Who?
Aaron Goldhammer
Pitbull almost felt like they were doing somebody a favor to put him there. Like, if you're in Miami for the. But pit bull doesn't fit baseball.
Matt Jones
My guess is with Acuna and Ellie de La Cruz, there was like, we can't just have these, like, white country singers come here. The two mice most. You know, like, marquee guy. That's my guess. But I just can't stand Pitbull. I feel like Pitbull's been around for 25 years. Who is the fan of Pitbull? Rick Patino is the only person I know that likes Pitbull and yet he gets dragged out to every single event.
Aaron Goldhammer
They play it at a lot of, like, bar and bat mitzvahs. Because it's music.
Matt Jones
Exactly. It's bat mitzvah music. Really? Like, it's bar mitzvah music. That's what we're playing now.
Aaron Goldhammer
Well, not in Tennessee. No. There are very few bar mitzvahs.
Matt Jones
I grew up in eastern Kentucky. I never even heard of a bar mitzvah until I was 19. So I don't think that was what. What it ended up being yesterday. Yesterday. Switching gears. Good luck, by the way, to the Reds and the Braves. If that. That stadium is going to be empty today, and it's going to be really.
Aaron Goldhammer
I think they said, like, if you just want to come and you live.
Matt Jones
There, they'll just let people come.
Aaron Goldhammer
Oh, yeah. Oh, I think I. I don't even know that they're going to be checking tickets at the.
Matt Jones
Well, that's kind of awesome. It's gonna be like Wimbledon. You remember when Wimbledon would be off on Saturday, Sundays, and if there was a lot of rain, they just let in all the people off the streets of Britain for the Sunday one.
Aaron Goldhammer
I think that's what we got.
Matt Jones
I think that's what. Oh, and when you do that in Bristol, you're going to be, as my mom would say, amongst them.
Aaron Goldhammer
I'll just did they get more pop into the place? Like did the coke.
Matt Jones
Let me tell you something, you get let the streets of Bristol in. If you don't have soda or beer, it's gonna be a bad situation. Did yesterday mark the official passing of the torch from LeBron to new ripped cut Luka, he's out here flexing on him. That's next here on Sunday MORNING with Matt and Aaron, Matt and Myron. The podcast.

Matt Jones
I mean, seriously, this is the worst song. I absolutely detest when country singers get to the point of their career where every song they do is either like, close to a cuss word, but not the cuss word, or some creative way to say bul. Butt like. Like badonka donk or something. Like I. Whenever you get to that point, your career as a country music singer is over. And Tim McGraw coming out there. This is Don't Take the Girl. You know, he's Indian outlaw. He's got like 50 songs and he comes out there and sings Truck. Yeah. Where the Green Grass Grows. No, not gonna do that. Yeah, it makes me mad.
Aaron Goldhammer
He didn't make that decision, though, Matt. That's definitely. That's.
Matt Jones
Whoever made it should be fired.
Aaron Goldhammer
I think I pinned that on Fox. I think that's the kind of Fox would want. And I don't. If you are Tim McGraw, I don't know if they pay you. I think you have to sing what they want you to.
Matt Jones
I understand. But the only time Truck. Yeah. Should be brought out is if you're doing the NASCAR truck series. I'll let you do that, but other than that, it should never be allowed in public. It's Sunday morning, Matt. Myron. What? James.
Aaron Goldhammer
He doesn't have a song called Car. Yeah, probably.
Matt Jones
Except he would try to, like, rhyme it with a cuss word that was ended in ar. I don't know what.
Aaron Goldhammer
That I was telling you about a song called Shift. Wor.
Matt Jones
Exactly.
Aaron Goldhammer
Is the similar idea. It's. There's a word you can't say that sounds like we're so clever.
Matt Jones
It's like the other one, but it's Shift makes me mad. All right, Luca Doncic, he does not make me mad. Although I already know where this is going. But I'll let Aaron go first since I've been ranting. He signed a three year hundred sixty five million dollar contract extension with the Lakers. He says I am ready to compete and I have a new sense of urgency. Which are great words. He says we're going for it and the franchise has built around him. So two part question. I'll ask you the first one and then we'll talk about the second first one. Looked at Luca. He looks cut. He looks great. How long in the season before he's fat again?
Aaron Goldhammer
I would say Christmas, Something like that. Yeah, look, I thought also on the Men's Health pictures. Okay. And he was on the COVID of Men's Health magazine. Look, there's definitely some airbrushing going on with those picks, too. So I haven't seen him with his shirt off. And I'm not sure that he's about to be like a GQ model, but he's definitely. But. But Matt, it shouldn't be news that an NBA all star is in shape like that. I'm sorry, that's headline news nowhere. Also, I think it's interesting, there are some basketball players that when they've gotten skinnier, they haven't actually gotten better. And I'll use Cav because I'm in Cleveland. So Kevin Love, like fat Kevin Love was the best version of Kevin Love. When Kevin Love got skinny, he wasn't quite as good. He couldn't rebound the same. He didn't have the same. I don't know what the right word is to be able to.
Matt Jones
Some people need to be a little. I mean, Luther Vandross, not as good when he got sick. Guinea Jonah Hill, Jonah Hill, better when he was bigger when he got skinny. Not as entertaining. I kind of wonder if Luca is the same way. I'm with you. Also there are people like Luca Zion is like this too. They're angle people, right? Like sometimes there are angles where Zion, like, you know, I've at times been blow more overweight than. Than than now. And like it's all about the angle of the picture. You gotta be like, get me from over here. I don't want a side shot. Get me from front, right? So I don't know for Luke. I won't know till I pl. But either way, I'm with you. It's a little overrated. Now what I think is clear is when you give him that deal and you don't do what LeBron wants with a long term deal, this is the official passing of the torch from LeBron to Luca. I think we all know that. What does that say to you, Aaron?
Aaron Goldhammer
I think it says that this is LeBron's last season as a Laker. I don't think he's going to play somewhere else just because I think with the $52 million contract, he's impossible to trade. And he also has a no trade clause. So all those things make it really hard. But I don't think if he plays next season, his 24th NBA season, that it's going to be in LA with the Lakers. Now there are all these weird little signs LeBron posted on Instagram that I guess he was working out at the Clippers practice facility. Did you see this? There were Clipper logos behind him as he was stretching. I don't know. Ask him. He's always trying to send some message with some of this stuff that he Puts up on social media, and he's obviously not happy with the fact that he's not the center of attention. But with 52 million in the bank, Matt, I don't think there's anything that he can do about it.
Matt Jones
I didn't know he did the Clippers thing. I mean, that's crazy. That would be like. Yeah, that'd be like a Kentucky player working out at Louisville, and you'd go, what are you doing? That should, you know, listen. I mean, LeBron's about as subtle as a train wreck. So, I mean, on some level, he does what he's going to do, and that's fine. I think it's going to be interesting, though. There's never been One moment in LeBron's career, ever, when he wasn't the center of attention and when he wasn't the. I mean, there might have been a moment or two where Dwayne Wade was a better player than LeBron, but it was always LeBron's thing. Right?
Aaron Goldhammer
Right.
Matt Jones
It's not now. And I'll be interested to see. How does a man who's. Whose ego. And I'm not saying ego necessarily, even in a bad way here, Aaron, how does someone who. His entire life has been built around what he wants in a moment? How do you accept when that moment goes away? I think that's very difficult.
Aaron Goldhammer
I think it's fascinating. I also think it's interesting, just looking at the social media. Like, LeBron always posts about, oh, congrats to my teammate. You know, on getting.
Matt Jones
I feel like he uses more hip.
Aaron Goldhammer
Language, like that's the message that he's trying to convey. But there was no post yesterday. I mean, where was the congratulations to Luka Doncic post? I was looking for it all afternoon and I didn't see it.
Matt Jones
I like Aaron. Congrats to my teammate, Luca Don Chick. Let's make sure Aaron doesn't post LeBron's future post. I don't know if they're. If their voice is exactly the same. Now, normally when I host on espn, there's always a Cowboys topic, and I go, why do we have to talk about this? There's no news. Well, now there is. Micah Parsons demands a trade. Next on Sunday Morning, Matt and Myron. The podcast.

Not all meals are created equal. For instance, breakfast has the spicy egg McMuffin for a limited time and lunch doesn't McDonald's breakfast first. See, this is what you should have Tim McGraw play. You got a barbecue stain on your wet T shirt. You know it's Labor Day weekend. We're only a month away. This is what you buy. No truck. Yeah. Is what they play. They deserve the rain. Sunday morning on ESPN Radio presented by Progressive Insurance. Normally it's Matt Jones and Myron Metcalf. Today it's Matt Jones and Aaron Gold. That stop it. Don't get me in a bad Dallas Cowboy star Michael Parsons and Jerry Jones been feuding for the last couple weeks. I've been on ESPN radio a lot, as has Aaron last couple weeks. So I've said all there is to say about it, which is here they go again. But now it seems to have taken on a new level. Michael Parsons has requested a trade after the ongoing talk stalled. He did it in a social media post, said he no longer wants to play for Dallas and he, quote, formally submitted his trade request. Request. I don't know what that means. Did he go through hr? I don't know exactly what he did, but it is now.
Aaron Goldhammer
It's unofficial. Micah Parsons letterhead, I think it is.
Matt Jones
It's signed. It's right. He actually got a quill and a notary and said that he would like to to be traded. But Jerry Jones says, hey, Cowboys fans, don't worry about it. Here was his comment. As always, in any relationships or different moods at different times of your relationship.
Aaron Goldhammer
That'S what it is.
Matt Jones
Don't lose any sleepover. So just to be serious, one thing I would say to our fans, don't lose any sleepover. Don't lose any sleep over it. Like all people in a good marriage, one has formally requested a divorce. But don't lose any sleep over it. I wasn't going to lose any sleep anyway because I don't know if you lose sleep over trades, that would be bad. But my guy. Excuse me, Aaron, why I'm calling you Micah Parsons. Aaron, if you were a Cowboys fan. Yeah. You got, you got Parsons saying get me out of here. You got Jerry saying don't worry about it. Where are you going to be on it?
Aaron Goldhammer
Well, I would assume that Micah Parsons the whole time is going to end up signing a contract extension with the Cowboys for the money. That he wants. Right? I mean, that's definitely where this is going. They're not going to trade Micah Parsons. And Micah Parsons, when he submits the quote unquote official trade request. This is all just kabuki. It's all just performance. It's all just nonsense. Ultimately, he's going to sign the deal. He's going to do it the first week of September because that's when Jerry is going to get the most attention and juice out of it. And I think this is all fake. I think it's all a performance to try to generate attention and get talking about the calendar.
Matt Jones
Like, when you say it's fake. Let's say you were buddies with Micah Parsons instead of Aaron Goldhammer and Emmett. It was Aaron Goldhammer and Micah. By the way, Emmett said I sounded like Jelly Roll. He and I are gonna have to talk at some point. But let's say you were buddies with Micah. Do you think Micah, in his mind today wants to be traded, or do you think he's also in on the performance?
Aaron Goldhammer
I think Micah wants his money, and I think whether he gets it from the Cowboys or the Texans or the Bills is not really all that important to him. But I do think that Cowboys players in general, I thought it was. One of the most interesting things about this story is the way that Micah's teammates have also ripped Jerry Jones, their owner and boss, through the whole process. Like CD Lamb's reaction and Dak Prescott's reaction, it's clear that they're sick of doing all this because it takes attention and energy away from getting ready for the season. You know, The Cowboys play 17 games in a division that has the super bowl champs in it. The last thing they need is to also be playing games with the owner in the media going back and forth, because that prevents them from being able to really prepare for the most important game, which is September 4th, Thursday Night Football against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Matt Jones
But now he also said that they haven't talked at all, because I think his line was he's honor. He's under contract. I mean, that's not a good sign if you've never spoke. I mean, again, to use Jerry's relationship example, if your. If your wife moves out of the house, files divorce papers, and is not answering your phone calls, I think it's hard. I mean, you have to be a pretty delusional man to go, well, this is just what happens in a relationship. There are ups and downs. I mean, it's a little.
Aaron Goldhammer
This is just about money than that. This is only about Money. This isn't about some relationship that they really care about each other.
Matt Jones
Brought it up. But like you're saying, it's not about love, it's about money.
Aaron Goldhammer
Correct. And so that's why this is easily repairable. Because if you hand. I think it's like $41.6 million that would make my Micah Parsons the highest paid non quarterback in NFL history. Like, that's ultimately where this is definitely going. It's.
Matt Jones
So you think I'm going to be on doing the. It'll be at this point called Matt Myron. We're finally going to get rid of the baggage of Sunday morning. You think I'm going to be on Matt Myron 10 to 1, week one. And I'm going to go. Breaking news. Adam Schefter reports. Micah Parsons has signed a deal. But is that what you think is going to happen?
Aaron Goldhammer
If I could bet that on espn bet I would bet it immediately. I said it would happen Sunday morning. But I. For that the Cowboys played the Thursday night of the opening.
Matt Jones
Okay, so you're thinking it'll be like on unsportsmanlike that.
Aaron Goldhammer
No. The first week of the Rich Eisen show, which Matt, I don't know if you're aware, is coming to ESPN Radio.
Matt Jones
No.
Aaron Goldhammer
Starting starting on September 2nd, there's this guy who used to be at ESPN. He's coming back. His name is Rich Eisen.
Matt Jones
Dan Patrick. Oh, Rich Eisenhower.
Aaron Goldhammer
It'll be, it'll be a good story for all of us. I think Rich Eisen will be the one.
Matt Jones
Rich Eisen, by the way, I was. That was a joke. I actually genuinely love Rich Eisenhower. I'm very excited to have him. So don't, don't anyone get mad at me. All right, Go ahead.
Aaron Goldhammer
Gosh. I'm just trying to find ways to promote our program.
Matt Jones
I know. Yes.
Aaron Goldhammer
So. But I think that, Yes, I think that that Wednesday or Thursday, that's when this will get done. And I guess I see Jerry Jones right now. Like, I don't know how many people watch the Simpsons anymore or people know this character. So I might be really saying something irrelevant to 90% of our audience. But he's like the Montgomery burns of the NFL.
Matt Jones
Mr. Burns.
Aaron Goldhammer
Yeah, yeah. I mean, he's, he's an evil genius. He. But ultimately he's easily manipulated. And I think that's what is ultimately going to happen in this situation. If I was a Cowboy fan, I would want my team to get back to being a serious football organization. Cares about winning.
Matt Jones
When was that? I mean, that was a Long time ago. Yeah, I mean, a long time ago. I. I would think playing for the Cowboys. Well, actually, forget about playing. I would think being a fan of the Cowboys, like a real fan, you know, not. I like the Cowboys and walk down the street with the. With the star, a real fan who bleeds it. I would think it is an exhausting thing to do because it is always. The games are almost secondary to what it is to be a Cowboys fan. In some ways, it's the drama. You know, I'm a Kentucky basketball fan, but we. Except for a couple times in our history, it's still. The games are the most important thing. And I think that's true about Alabama football and I think that's true about the Yankees and I. But for some reason, the Cowboys are the team with the biggest fan base, that the drama seems to always be more important than the games. And I. That would have to be exhausting, wouldn't it?
Aaron Goldhammer
Yeah. I want the drama of the games. Even I'd rather have DEZ Bryant. Was it a catch? Was it not a catch? Be the Cowboys topic and not. I mean, this is a guy that should have been signed like a year and a half ago. Right? I mean, the fact that this still isn't done is shocking and just stupid. It's bad.
Matt Jones
Any way to trade him? Like. Like. Okay, so I was sitting there. I was actually listening. I was driving to the Chipotle and I was on Leavestown Road, and I. I turned on Aaron and Emmett. The Hammer and the Golden. You all could be the Golden Hammer.
Aaron Goldhammer
You've tried to say this. You've tried to say this show now multiple times, and you've never gotten the name right. It's Hammer and Emmett. Hammer and Emmett on espn.
Matt Jones
Right, I understand, but Golden Hammer should.
Aaron Goldhammer
Be the name of the show.
Matt Jones
I mean, it's kind of you. It's Aaron Goldhammer. Emmett Golden.
Aaron Goldhammer
Yes. So we. We were at the Gold. The Golden Boys. What do you think?
Matt Jones
The Golden Boys. Boys. Terrible name. The Golden Boys.
Aaron Goldhammer
No, we were the Golden Boys with a Z.
Matt Jones
Even worse. Even worse.
Aaron Goldhammer
Oh, man.
Matt Jones
Whoever told you to be the Golden Boys with a Z? Fire them, okay? Because that Golden Boys with Z sounds like a podcast that's interviewing world leaders but has never read a book. All right, so I. Chopper tag team in the main or jobber T. Here come the Gold Boys. They're wearing little gold trunks that glitter. Don't do that. But the. But gold. What was I say? Gold hammers.
Aaron Goldhammer
Yeah. Okay. You like?
Matt Jones
I don't know. Anyway, I was listening to that.
Aaron Goldhammer
Yeah.
Matt Jones
And you all were talking about what a trade could be. And I think Emmett said something like you would need to have three first round picks. Or maybe you said that I there. I mean, is it even plausible to come up with a trade that could.
Aaron Goldhammer
Happen if you were. First of all, you got to find the right team. Okay. And the commanders are the perfect team, but forget about them because that's a trade in the division that would never happen. The Bills are like, like if the Bills got Micah Parsons, that would be a game changing move that could put them over the top and have them win a Super Bowl. So if I was Buffalo, what I think about offering two or three number one picks if Micah Parsons was available and I thought I could afford signing him to the contract extension, I might consider that. But I, I don't think that that's Jerry's intention with this or Micah Parsons intention at all. It's like the opposite of the NBA. In the NBA, when someone demands a trade, they are going to get traded, especially when they're a star. That's a guarantee.
Matt Jones
Yes.
Aaron Goldhammer
If Giannis went to the Bucks today and Shams came out and hypothetically reported that he was demanding a trade, you could start putting him in other uniforms on social media. In the NFL, the way the game works is totally different. And you got three guys that are demanding trades right now. Hendrickson, Terry McLaurin and Michael Parsons. None of them are going to be true.
Matt Jones
Henderson's back. Henderson has decided to start practicing, I think. Didn't I hear that?
Aaron Goldhammer
So did he's holding in. Did he officially rescind his trade? Unofficial? No. It's the smartest thing to do because then they don't get fined.
Matt Jones
But that just means you're playing, right?
Aaron Goldhammer
No, you're not practicing. You're wearing a T shirt. You're wearing a T shirt. Angrily standing on the sidelines, making faces for the cameras. Yes.
Matt Jones
Holding in. You all really went by the Golden Boys. Like, how did you get up in the morning and look in the mirror when you two were the Golden Boys?
Aaron Goldhammer
We, we liked it, but it was 2015, so I think my sensibility was a little bit different. So was Emmy.
Matt Jones
Was that like. And whose idea was the Z?
Aaron Goldhammer
I think we agreed together that it was a good idea.
Matt Jones
You all collectively were like, okay, what'll really set us apart is if we change the S to a Z. People will think it's a lot cooler.
Aaron Goldhammer
Too much energy on the name of the show, which doesn't matter. Not enough energy on the show.
Matt Jones
Being Good. All across the country, the biggest show is always, like, Mark and the squirrel in the afternoons here. And like, like, that's what the biggest shows are.
Aaron Goldhammer
The greatest radio show ever was called the Howard Stern show. Like, yes. No one took a lot of time and energy to come up with the name.
Matt Jones
Well, but a show. But a name can ruin it. And that's. If you're the golden Boys, that would be. I would see that and I would go, that's a show I cannot listen to.
Aaron Goldhammer
Are we the golden Boys? Truck? Yeah, exactly.
Matt Jones
Exact same people came up with those two. Now, Aaron is based in Cleveland, and while that does bring sadness, it also brings sadness in the form of football. The Browns have a quarterback battle. I believe there are 13 quarterbacks battling to be the mediocre starter for the Browns. He will give us the latest on which of the multitude of masses are trying to throw for the Cleveland football team. That's next here on Sunday Morning. Matt and Myron. The podcast Gatorade is the number one proven electrolyte blend designed to hydrate better than water so you can lose more sweat and raise your game. Gatorade is. Is it in?

That's a beautiful song right there. That's Brooks and Dunn. I saw Brooks and Dunn in Nashville like a year ago. It was good times. You a big Brooks and Dunn fan?
Aaron Goldhammer
I'm more of a truck. Yeah. Kind of guy, I gotta say.
Matt Jones
Stop ruining good songs with that garbage. One person writes, matt, golden Hammers might not be a good name for a radio show, but it'd be a nice home improvement show. That's true. I can see you to be in the Golden Hammers. You and Emmett come in. It's like a house needs a little fixer up and you do it. Next thing you know, it's you, you, and you're like, wow, look what the Golden Hammers did for you here. I think that would be good.
Aaron Goldhammer
I was hoping, you know, when my family came in through Ellis island, one of the reasons we had the last name Goldhammer is because great, like, I don't know, at building things that they said our hammers were golden and I Think what actually happened, Matt, was that they came to Ellis island and said, what's your name? And we said, gold hammer slammer slumbers. That. And the guy just wrote down gold hammer. And that's how we became.
Matt Jones
Right. So your family came through Ellis Island.
Aaron Goldhammer
Yes, that about four generations ago. Oh, late 19th century.
Matt Jones
You are a great American story. I was. So you. Your family came through during the Gild Age, which is my current HBO favorite show. The Gilded Age with Agnes and Bertha and all of the fights for high society in New York. Your family was right there in the.
Aaron Goldhammer
Center of that triple H. Say, espn. If you're watching the Gilded Age, there's.
Matt Jones
Not a lot of people watching the Gilded Age, but you should. It's a lot more interesting than a lot of stuff that people are watching right now.
Aaron Goldhammer
Who is your favorite Gilded Age president?
Matt Jones
I would date Bertha in a heartbeat. I mean, she would be a little bit. Like, she would. She'd scare me a little bit, but she would move us up through society without question.
Aaron Goldhammer
Who was. Wasn't there one of the presidents that got John Adams?
Matt Jones
Kid is in it. Okay, but I've only one season through, so don't spoil it.
Aaron Goldhammer
Well, I don't mean to spoil it for you, but I'm just saying, historically, there was a president who died because he got the flu at the inauguration.
Matt Jones
Yeah. William Henry Harris.
Aaron Goldhammer
Yes. During the Gilded Age.
Matt Jones
Yes. William Henry Harrison got the flu, died. You know, these are the kinds of things you want to hear about.
Aaron Goldhammer
Major League Baseball. Major League baseball, after last night, were the ones that coordinated that inauguration.
Matt Jones
Exactly. Right now. All right, so you're in Cleveland. There are, let's see, you've got. You got Joe Flacco, you got Kenny Pickett, you got Dylan Gabriel, you got Shador Sanders, you got Tim Couch, you got Kelly Holbrook. I don't know who the quarterback is supposed to be this year, which. What are they? Give us the Cleveland Quarterback update as of now.
Aaron Goldhammer
Well, this has not been impressive, but it has been interesting. Okay, So I wouldn't say that anybody is, like, dominating the competition, but I would say that we've had some odd twists and turns. Kenny Pickett showed up with a hamstring injury last weekend and then didn't practice for the majority of the week. And then yesterday, Shadore Sanders didn't take any reps, and he was out. And apparently his shoulder is sore, which is weird because he's the. He's the quarterback who throws the least. So I don't know he. How his shoulder got Sore, not throwing his. Anyway, Joe Flacco is going to be the Brown starter opening day against the Cincinnati Bengals. That I've decided for sure. He had the lead coming in, Matt, and his lead has only gotten bigger. So who started? There is a competition for the backup is.
Matt Jones
If he's healthy, will it be Kenny Pickett?
Aaron Goldhammer
No, I'm not sure that I think the Browns really like Dylan Gabriel, and I like Dylan Gabriel as a guy, too.
Matt Jones
So you like. Well, that's. That's important. Matt, look at me.
Aaron Goldhammer
Matt. He's a really nice guy.
Matt Jones
That's good. He seems like a nice.
Aaron Goldhammer
What. What am I saying when I tell you that?
Matt Jones
He's saying he's not good. But that makes me even more worried about Shador, because if he is not first, second or third team, what is he. Is he on the practice squad?
Aaron Goldhammer
Well, Gabriel's not ahead of him on the depth chart because he's better. He's ahead of him on the depth chart because they drafted him first.
Matt Jones
So you don't think Shador or you don't think Dylan Gabriel is better than Shador?
Aaron Goldhammer
I think Dylan Gabriel is more ready to play maybe in an NFL game than Shador is, but I think that Shador has a much higher ceiling as a player than Dylan. Dylan Gabriel's got a low ceiling.
Matt Jones
You've got like, who's. So you're going to have what?
Aaron Goldhammer
I think Picket's going to be gone. I think Flacco is going to be the starter.
Matt Jones
Gabriel.
Aaron Goldhammer
I do.
Matt Jones
Okay.
Aaron Goldhammer
I do. I don't know whether they'll trade him or whether they'll. I don't know anybody would give you anything for him or if they're just going to outright release him and then they would have Gabriel and Sanders. I. There's a chance they go in with four quarterbacks. But, Matt, as I think about how the roster takes shape and all that, I think that's kind of a weird decision. But it's the Browns.
Matt Jones
Is that why how you would do it?
Aaron Goldhammer
In order to get one on the practice squad, they have to clear waivers.
Matt Jones
Okay. So they can't even do that.
Aaron Goldhammer
So if. I mean, I don't know if they put Shador Sanders on waivers, would someone claim him?
Matt Jones
Yeah, probably. I mean, you're getting a fifth round pick for free. That's a quarterback that.
Aaron Goldhammer
But all these teams passed on him five times, you know, So I don't.
Matt Jones
It's fascinating. I mean, I. I am fascinated by Shador Sanders. Not just that it's Shador Sanders. I don't understand how a guy could have been projected not at one point the number one pick. He was projected in the top 10 the day of the draft by a lot of people.
Aaron Goldhammer
Sure.
Matt Jones
I mean, and that he gets all the way to the fifth round and now you're giving me a situation where he's not even in the league. I just, I don't understand how that's plausible.
Aaron Goldhammer
I gotta tell you, Gabriel at practice has been not impressive. And I'll, and I'll leave it better.
Matt Jones
Than Sanders or No.
Aaron Goldhammer
Well, we're doing our ESPN Cleveland Quarterback Tracker, which charts every single throw that each of these quarterbacks is making. And the other day, Dylan Gabriel was 3 for 14 passing at practice, 3 for 14 defense. Yeah, I'm sure that's what it is. I'm sure that's what it is. The other thing, Matt, I, I, that I think is worth saying here is that the Browns traded Travis Hunter so that they could get an extra number one pick in 2026 so that they could draft a quarterback in the first round in 2026. So people are spending a lot of energy breaking down this four way weird, never before seen thing that's going on with Brown's quarterbacks. The reality of it is the quarterback of the future isn't even on this roster. It's none of the four quarterbacks.
Matt Jones
Just a throwaway year.
Aaron Goldhammer
Yeah, I think, I mean, but I.
Matt Jones
Feel like you all have had a lot of throwaway years.
Aaron Goldhammer
Yeah, I, I don't, I don't want it to be a throwaway year. I have to watch this stuff.
Matt Jones
When is the year you're going to keep?
Aaron Goldhammer
Next year, Maybe the year after that. But by the time we get into the new dome stadium, I'm hoping we'll have something.
Matt Jones
Unless you're playing in an easy division. So hopefully that will good quarterbacks. Hopefully that will make it better. Next we're going to get all over the world of sp, including some headlines on the things you haven't been following. That's next Matt and Myron the podcast. You've seen the headlines, heard the debates.
Aaron Goldhammer
The three point ball has created a monotonous rhythm to the game.
Matt Jones
Has the three pointer ruined basketball? And how did we get here? The rise of the three point shot can be partially traced to an extended centric Kansas genius named Martin Manley, whose story didn't turn out quite the way he imagined.
