Easy to bundle, easy to save. Visit progressive.com what is your super bowl watching routine, Myron? Are you like the. Do you go out to bars? Do you do family? Or do you sit in a dark room by yourself and brood? What is the way that you watch the Super Bowl? Dark room?
Myron
Like prison? Like, what are you talking about? I kind of feel.
Matt
I kind of feel like you watch it by yourself.
Myron
I go to parties. Listen, I go to parties. My preference is to watch it away from crowds because it's just, to me, I don't like missing commercials. I like to actually watch the game. And I'm really. I like to watch the halftime show and be able to talk to people about it. And so that's the thing is, like, I'll go to parties, but it's not my top.
Matt
So you're not going to a party?
Myron
Well, I've been invited to a couple of them, including one.
Matt
I've been invited to a couple of them.
Myron
Our producer, James Steele.
James
Yeah, Myron said he's gonna come over today.
Myron
I don't know.
James
I don't know if I want him to come over.
Ad Voice
It's not personal.
Myron
No, no, it's not personal. It's just.
Ad Voice
Wait a minute.
Matt
Y' all are. He's hanging out at your house?
Myron
Well, here's the thing.
James
He said he was going.
Matt
Listen, people, you decided to go to California, Matt.
So you.
Myron
You didn't get an invite.
Ad Voice
I'm so sorry.
Matt
I mean, I think that's exciting. The problem is Myron. It's amazing. Myron would, like, come and hang with the producers. I thought he only, like. I thought he'd only hang with, like, management.
Myron
Here's my problem. I don't like people talking to me all the time.
Matt
Right.
Myron
Like so.
Matt
All right. Keep that in mind. James, don't talk to him.
Myron
Once the game starts, can we watch the game? That's my Thing. It's like, if we're having a conversation around the game, I'm fine. But as soon as it goes in all these other directions, then I just go, yeah, he's there.
Matt
He doesn't want you to talk.
Ad Voice
I guess.
James
I guess we can put him, like in the bedroom somewhere.
Myron
And then there's gonna be a whole Bad Bunny discussion. I don't. I don't need to know what you think about Bad Bunny.
Matt
Okay? So I'm excited about Bad Bunny. I'll tell you what.
Myron
I was watching what Bad Bunny songs do you know?
James
That was his entrance.
Matt
That was amazing. Play it. Just play it. Kimbera. Holla.
Myron
Yeah, that's that mountain Spanish.
Matt
That's right. That's. That's like. No, that's. That's in it. It's called Kambera.
Myron
I know he does that. I know he likes. I like when he does that. I'm excited about that kind of thing.
Matt
I don't need to know what he says. I don't know what people say. Yeah, there's a lot of songs out that I don't know what the lyrics are.
Myron
I'm looking forward to. I think it's going to be a great performance. I think it's going to be a great show. Which.
Matt
You know what?
Myron
I think it has to be a show.
Matt
I heard some. I heard somebody say, I don't want to steal their idea. So somebody. I'm not the one that came up with this, but they said he should come out. And the first song, bring out Bruce Springsteen and play Born in the usa.
Myron
I think that. Oh, that would be hilarious. Well, there's three special guests, so that's. Apparently there's three special guests. I'm guessing one will be Cardi B. They have a song together. I don't know who the other two would be. Would that be good?
Matt
Bruce Springsteen. Border, USA.
Myron
I want to see Shakira. Maybe. Maybe JLo.
Matt
Okay, I will tell you. I was walking down the street on Mission street in San Francisco and there was this huge crowd in front of a bar. Like, massive crowd. And they were in Bad Bunny. There was bad money music playing. And we were like, oh, what's going on over there? And they were having a Bad Bunny look alike contest.
Ad Voice
Wow.
Matt
And there was a guy and he was performing, and he looked just like Bad Bunny. And so I named him something. Would you like to know what we named him?
Myron
Maybe. What's your name?
Matt
Brad. Bunny.
Myron
Brad Bunny. I tell you what, there's a lot of dudes who could walk around America saying, they're bad, buddy.
Matt
But no, this was.
Myron
And people would believe him.
Matt
This dude was clearly white, had a painted odd beard. And so. I like the idea.
Myron
Hope, right? Nothing else was painted.
Matt
No.
Myron
Okay, y' all gotta. Y' all gotta stop painting stuff. Yeah, Y' all go too far with the costumes sometimes.
Matt
It was not just the beard. And I just thought that would be great. If you're a bad Bunny impersonator and you go by Brad Bunny, are you gonna. I've heard through the grapevine that you were also gonna watch Turn over and watch some of the Kid Rock halftime show.
Myron
Are you gonna do that? There's gonna be eight people watching that watch. I don't even know where they found half those.
Matt
Yeah. I don't know what chance is it.
Myron
On a channel on to be probably. I don't know what it's. I don't know what it's on.
Matt
You're always hating on two.
Myron
Listen, I'm excited, though, to see the performance. Like, to me, it's not about the artist because I've seen terrible Super Bowls. Like, I was at the super bowl when Justin Timberlake performed. It was terrible. Worst performance I've ever seen.
Matt
Why was it terrible?
Myron
It just wasn't a good performance. Justin Timberlake isn't a great live performer.
Matt
Okay.
Myron
You know what I mean? Like, this version of him.
Matt
I mean, obviously the best one of all time is Princess, right?
Myron
Princess D concert that you.
Matt
That's universally declared. Who. Who are the other ones?
Myron
Michael Jackson is. Was legendary.
Matt
You know who I think was really good? Who way better than I think he is as an artist? Was that year that Bruno Mars did it.
Myron
Bruno Mars is great in that setting now. Bruno Mars is great.
Matt
I thought a couple years ago, Usher was.
Myron
Usher was really good. Beyonce was great. Like, all the live performance, the ones who are really good. Like, you have to be a good performer. Like, to me, it's not about if you're a great singer, if you're a great performer. That's what the super bowl should be reserved for. Shakira was great. Shakira was great.
Matt
But Shakira got me in trouble.
Myron
That was incredible.
Matt
Shakira got me in trouble. Katie.
Myron
Katie.
Matt
Because I made the mistake of saying to my then girlfriend that she was, like, my favorite, that she was my type. And then she looked at me and said. She looked at me and literally said, I don't have one thing in common with Shakira in any way. Work out. I was like, you're my type in a different way.
Myron
You get Celebrity crushes, though. I mean you're allowed to. You're allowed to have celebrity crushes, but.
Matt
I think I messed up when I said my.
Myron
That's all on you though.
James
You can't.
Myron
Blame is probably too far. My type is probably a little.
Matt
I shouldn't have said my type. I mean, I wasn't lying, but I shouldn't have said it.
Myron
Yeah, okay.
Matt
That was my problem.
Myron
That's. Yeah, that's. That, that's a lot then to see her perform. That could throw off any. I think that's exactly. Relationship. But I just want to see a great performance.
Matt
The Seahawks are four and a half point favorite and these are two teams that even though it's a surprise on paper that they're there, if you look at the stats, it's not that big a surprise. Patriots are 4th in offense, 6 in rushing scoring, 2nd Patriots defense 8th in offense. Seahawks offense tied for 7. Seahawks defense, 8. Turnover differential. Seahawks didn't have a great win in the regular season and had a pretty good one in the postseason. Like, if you look at the numbers, it's not a surprise these two teams are there. It feels like a surprise, Myron. But if you just look at the performance this year, you could make an argument that these were two of at least the three or four best teams consistently this season.
Myron
It only feels like a surprise to spoiled NFL fans who want Mahomes to be in every single super bowl, who want Brady. Like, here's the problem though. You can't have it both ways. You can't be mad that Brady dominated the NFL for 20 years and then new teams show up, new faces show up and you're like, oh, I want to go back to the star power. Like at the end of the day, this is great for the league. To me, I think you have the two best teams in the NFL fighting for the Super Bowl. No, you don't have necessarily the same star power of Mahomes and Brady and some of those other elite quarterbacks, but it's a great matchup. And why do we want to see the same thing year after year after year? These are two great stories. Sam Donald was left for dead in his career, ends up in the super bowl after Minnesota got rid of him despite winning 14 games. Drake May, a second year quarterback who was robbed of MVP with his head coach who was fired by the Tennessee Titans. Now they're here in his first year as a head coach. This is an incredible story for the league and for the NFL.
Matt
But you still hate on Sam Darnold though. It is an amazing story. I think Sam Darnold winning would be one of the more amazing stories in modern NFL history. But you still, like, even in this show, you kept saying, well, it'll just be until he screws up. Just wait until it hits him. Like, why don't you believe. Why don't you let yourself get engulfed in this Sam Darnold redemption store?
Myron
Listen, I think there are two things about Sam Donald. What he's done. 14 games with the Vikings was incredible. They obviously should have stuck with him coming to Seattle and leading to leading them to a Super Bowl. He's already one of the great stories I think we've seen in recent NFL history. But there's bad Sam Darnold in there and every single Seahawks fan listening is afraid of this. They're afraid that it's.
Matt
He hasn't been bad Sam Darnold. You're, you're going back to, to Jets. In the last two games of Minnesota, we have not seen bad Sam Darnold in Seattle.
Myron
But Matt, it's in there. That's all. Maybe, maybe he got out of.
Matt
Maybe when he got to Seattle, he started breathing that good coastal air and it's not there anymore.
Myron
You watched last year with the Vikings. As great as he played in the regular season, with the game on the line in the playoffs, he had literally one of the worst performances we've ever seen a quarterback have at that stage. I think Sam Darnold was great in the NFC Championship. If that dude shows up, they're going to win the Super Bowl. But somewhere in there is a dude who will throw four picks in this game. There's a dude in here who will fumble twice and who will throw for 198 yards and not give his team a chance to win. That's the real reality of life with Sam Darnold. You can't deny that.
Matt
Well, I don't think he's going to do it today. I think he's going to get through this year. And just like my man Brad Bunny out on the streets of San Francisco, he's going to lay down a big victory tonight. We're going to continue to look ahead at the Super Bowl. Plus headlines, some big news from the Olympics today. We will do that. That's next here on Matt Myron on espn.

See, when he does that, he better play this one. You know there's a. There's a lot of bets on what songs he's gonna play. Yeah, I need him to play this one because it's the only one I know. But if he does, then I'm gonna. I'm gonna start, you know, dancing. You should see me last night at the Sports Illustrated party when. When. When. When Luda started going. I was putting on some moves that people were talking about it. We'll. We'll have that again at the halftime.
Myron
I know you don't dance because you say stuff like, I was putting on some moves, dude. What does that mean for a six.
Matt
Four mountain white guy? I got more moves than you would think. Here's what people always say about me. When they dance, they go, well, you dance better than I thought you would. Okay, I consider that a compliment.
Myron
Yeah. The cool thing about, you know, getting older and dancing is, like, you don't have to do a whole lot. There aren't a lot of great expectations.
Matt
Yeah, I do a lot.
Myron
Not me.
Matt
I do more than necessary.
Myron
Nah, that's too much, man. I. Just a lot of shoulder movement. Just a little bit of shoulder movement, and you'll be.
Matt
It is now time for Sunday headlines. Extra, extra. Read all about it.
Podcast Announcer
The Sunday headlines.
Matt
All right, let's get started. James, what's up?
James
First, let's head to the Olympics real quick. Lindsey Vaughn, in her bid to win the Winter Olympic downhill at the age of 41 on a rebuilt right knee and a badly injured left knee, ended today in a frightening crash that saw her taken to safety by a rescue helicopter for the second time in nine days. Vaughn lost control within moments of leaving the starting gate, clipping gate with her shoulder and pinwheeling down the slope before ending up awkwardly on her back with her skis crisscrossed below her. And you can hear her screaming, too. You said in the break that she is apparently in stable condition.
Matt
Yes, apparently she's okay. She's got another. She got an injury, but they said she's stable. And their words were that she is in, quote, good hands with Italian and American doctors. Listen, this was a great story. I mean, the lead story to start the Olympics was her trying at the age of 41. She might have been the favorite if she hadn't gotten hurt seven days ago. It's a shame she got hurt. The scream when she lands is bad, But I'm glad to hear she's okay.
Myron
It stinks.
Matt
Now, another American ended up winning the downhill, but that's a big story. Lindsey Vonn. Kind of been in our lives for a long time, Myron, and I was really bummed to see that this how it ends. But you gotta give her credit. She's a warrior to get out there and actually go seven days after a torn acl.
Myron
Yeah. I don't know how she did it. I mean, the resilience, the strength to do what she did. And listen, there are people now on social media debating whether or not she should have been cleared to perform. I'm glad she got to do this on her own terms and she gave it a chance. And if there were doctors who said, let's go, I'm with her. And it became an incredible story of resilience. No matter what happens from here.
Matt
Yeah, exactly. You know, I have a friend who skis who told me that one time he tore his acl and the doctor said he was like, can I do I. Can I walk around on this? He goes, you'll be fine. Unless you want to ski, don't ski. Well now, I mean, so that's. She went and skied anyway, so I got to give her a lot of credit. I'm looking forward to getting into the Olympics. It'll probably take me until after today, but I'm ready to bobsled and luge and speed skate and all that. I do enjoy going into the cold in Italy.
Myron
Yeah. Jamaica, man, they're in it. Are they by? I don't know.
Matt
I saw them in it with you in Jamaica. Every time I bring up the Winter Olympics, you just talk about Jamaica. They don't win anything.
Myron
But I watched them in the opening ceremony and they didn't have any, any events attached to their names. Like, I think they just got invited to hang out. Like, I don't really know what they're doing.
Matt
They got there. Did they get there to bring the foreign substances?
Myron
They didn't. They didn't have the right coats. You know, you had three dudes in Timberland boots. I don't know what Jamaica is doing out there, man, but they look out there having fun.
Matt
Sometimes you invite people for the vibe. What's next, James?
James
Yeah. Villanova men's basketball coach Kevin Willard returned to the DMV region for the first time Saturday since his controversial exit from Maryland last year, and a few Terrapins fans went out of the way to make it an unwelcome homecoming after his Wildcats won 80 to 73. Willard was asked about a contingent of Maryland fans seated near the visiting bench who heckled the first year coach throughout the game. Here's what he had to say.
Matt
They wasted a Saturday. I don't know what the they were doing. I mean, if they got nothing better to do on a Saturday than come look at My bald ass. I don't know what they're doing.
James
So, yeah, so there you go.
Myron
I mean, Kevin's right. I mean, Maryland might be the worst power forward team in America. So for you to go over to just hassle and heckle your former coach when your team is in the state that it, it doesn't help Maryland, Matt. Like, like, it doesn't do anything to change the perception of Maryland. So I'm with Kevin Willard on that. What. What a waste of your time.
Matt
I'm kind of with Kevin Willard, but I'm also like, Kevin, I think you're missing the overall goal here. You're a college basketball coach. Don't you want people to care about your program when you go half? You ain't got nothing better to do than come and look at my bald ass. You're basically suggesting that you are boring. College basketball is boring. Like, yes, they have. You want them to come to the games, don't you? Don't you want people to show up to the game?
Myron
Not your ex fans? These are, These are Maryland fans.
Matt
Yeah, but if I, if, if I'm getting Villanova, if I'm Kevin Willard and I'm gonna get Villanova where I want, I want it to be sold out everywhere I go because we're the biggest show in town. This idea that you'd have more fun going to the Home Depot rather than coming watching Villanova basketball, like, that's kind of a mentality of a loser, isn't it?
Myron
I think he was just suggesting that, like, things are so bad for you all that this is what you're going to do on your Saturday. That says more about you and your program.
Matt
Like, now you have a shaved head. Where is the moment you say b shaved head?
Myron
This is just my head. I don't. This is just.
Matt
Yeah, okay, well, you have a head that's similar to Kevin Willard.
Myron
I'm not bald. Don't say that. I'm not bald. Don't put that out there.
Matt
Say you were bald.
Myron
I said I was. How am I similar to Kevin Willard, though?
Matt
Well, you don't have hair.
Myron
I'm not bald. You cannot touch my hair and, and feel the skin on my scalp. Like, I'm not bald.
Matt
Okay, so. All right, so you didn't want me to say it's a shaved head.
Myron
Yeah.
Matt
And you don't want me to say it's bald. What would you like me to call you?
Myron
You know, modern, I think probably is what people say about me. Old.
James
Modern.
Myron
Med. Sheep. Trendy.
Matt
So you don't so you don't classify yourself as bald or shaved head. Do you classify. So what is your class? It's. It. There has to be some hair related term to use with you.
Myron
Experienced. I think that's the look I'm going for.
Matt
So you walk into the barber. Do you go to a barber every week?
Myron
Yeah, most weeks.
Matt
And you walk in and you ask for the experienced.
Myron
I asked for. My barber knows my head. So I don't do it. I don't say anything. Like he just knows.
Matt
What would you say to him the first time?
Myron
You know, I like it even all around. And be said like, how.
Matt
How much you know. What does that mean?
Myron
Well, it's. It's not how much paint you're working with, you know, as you. As you paint on the canvas. It's just the beauty of the picture. So he understands what he's working with.
Matt
So you're doing like a Carlos Boozer painting thing.
Myron
I'm not painting yet. I told you about my beard, though. I am investigating getting the fake beard. I saw it, you know, that's what I'm working on.
Matt
All right, well, you. I do think it's funny when you get so angry you say bald ass. That makes. That does make me laugh. What's next there yet?
James
The NBA trade deadline was this week.
Myron
Had a couple of big trades.
James
James Harden went to the Cavs, Kristaps Porzingis to the Warriors. But the one that we've been waiting for, Giannis didn't go anywhere. Myron, what do you think about this?
Myron
What a mess. He's become annoying to me. Like, he's gone from hometown hero. The guy who could do no wrong to Giannis has become one of the most annoying NBA stars to me, playing with everyone's emotions. Will you leave? Will you stay? Just leave, man. You want a championship, Fine. You don't have to drag this thing out. So Giannis, for me, has become the most annoying player in the NBA and I'm just tired of him.
Matt
Yeah, it's unfortunate because I think he was one of the most likable players and now he's done some stuff that makes it a little less likable. I like James Harden in Cleveland. I want James Harden to play for every team. James Harden, man, like, he can get on every team. His weight fluctuates, his beard fluctuates, but he does show up and play. Played well last night. Also, who's in charge of keeping Travis Scott off the court as he just gets a run on? Like, who gets out of everything?
Myron
Can we just keep him out of everything.
Matt
Travis Scott's in every single everything. Like shoes, movies, wrestling, basketball. You cannot get away from Travis Scott. But yeah, I agree with you about Giannis. Would you rather have Kirk Cousins, Tua, Kyler Murray or another quarterback in the off season? We'll figure out which one of the free agents is best for your team. That's next.

It is Matt Myron here on ESPN Radio. Tune in to NBA action today as the Celtics will host the Knicks presented by indeed coverage against it noon Eastern on ESPN Radio. Yeah and the ESPN app. One person writes, matt, I actually do cut hair. Myron is ridiculous saying he comes in and asks for a modern he has to acknowledge whether or not he has hair. You're not allowed to be in between.
Myron
I do have hair. I have a, you know A spot that is. We're working on it. I'll say.
Matt
But what are we working on? Are you doing. Are you doing, like, treatments?
Myron
Well, I told you, I'm doing the Beyonce thing, so, yeah, I'm doing Beyonce.
Matt
That's not going to work, though. That's not going to work. Are you. Would you. Would you get.
Myron
Why would you not believe in Beyonce? I believe in the power of Beyonce.
Matt
But would you get. Would you get plugs?
Myron
Yeah, only if I could go full Afro. Like, if I do something, I'm just going to be dramatic, but why don't.
Matt
You just have a shaved head? Like, if I was black, I'd have a shaved head. Because you. You can pull it off. I can't pull it off. Yeah, it's.
Myron
But it's not unique, and I like to be unique.
Matt
Oh, you want to be unique?
Myron
Yeah, I want to just do what everybody else is doing.
Matt
So what are you looking for? Like. Like a box?
Myron
I want the. I want the beard. You know, I want to work on the beard. I just want to see what these Beyonce products do for me in the next six months. And then.
Matt
And then we'll come back and we'll figure out where we are, then evaluate. Okay, well, let's do this. Let's put Rachel J's. Let's put a little note that we will come back in August, see how the Beyonce hair products are working for Myron, and see what the next step of the modern Metcalf hair look is.
Myron
I believe in it. I mean, people are on TikTok saying that she's done amazing things, man. So I'm Team Beyonce.
Matt
Are they on TikTok saying you've done amazing things?
Myron
They're just saying that Beyonce's. I don't. I'm not on TikTok, but when I see Tiktoks on Twitter, they talk about the hair thing.
Matt
By the way, that's an old person thing to say. When I see TikToks on Twitter someplace, I see them, you know, when I see the tick tocks on the Twitter, that's what I know. What's going on. The Dolphins and the Cardinals are open to trading both of their quarterbacks, Tua and Kyler Murray, new head coaches. Both teams would like to find trade partners for their starting quarterbacks. Let's go over each of them and say, myron, whether if you were a team, you would trade for him. Let's start with two of them. We've seen two of be great. And then there's obviously the injury concerns their Jets, Falcons, Brown, Steelers and Vikings have all expressed interest in potentially acquiring a quarterback in this market. The Dolphins signed to it a four year 212 million dollar extension. They owe him 54 million guaranteed in 2026. If you were a team out there, would you trade to pay 54 million for your man to.
Myron
I mean if the Dolphins were willing to do something to lower that salary. I mean if the Dolphins really want to get rid of Tua, they got to do something to help a team not have to absorb that entire salary. I don't know how this works out. I mean, he's a $99 million cap hit right now, which would be a record. If they decide to cut him. If they designate him a post 6-1-cut, they can spread that money out. But I think there are a lot of teams looking for a quarterback.
Matt
But you don't you think he's like the best option of all, of all players? Yeah.
Myron
I mean we saw to a throw for 4,000 plus yards. Does he need a lot of help? Yes. But if you put targets around him, when Tyreek Hill was healthy, when he had a lot of options in Miami to a play, great, and I think a team like Minnesota, for instance, with all of those wide receivers, he could succeed there potentially. I'm not giving up on a 27 year old quarterback who I think had a terrible year. Yes, but we've seen his ceiling and I think that's why it's too early to give up on Tua.
Matt
But when you say you're not going to give up on him, like it's a difference between not giving up on a guy and taking the cap responsibility you're going to have to do to take him on. I mean, essentially it makes zero sense to bring Tua in unless you think you have a team that he can lead to the Super Bowl. He costs too much money to bring him in as a development guy. Like he has to do a Sam Darnold here. Do you genuinely believe that can happen?
Myron
I think, I think it's possible.
Matt
I mean, well, anything's possible, but I mean it can happen.
Myron
But imagine two years ago if I had told you, okay, it's 2004. Two was just thrown for 4,000 plus yards. Sam Darnold's not on the scene, Nobody's talking about him.
Matt
You wouldn't have predicted this, you wouldn't have done it. No, nobody would have done it. But, but I'm asking you though. It's. We've seen it happen. I didn't think things like that could Happen? Yeah, we've seen it happen. You genuinely believe he's a candidate to do the same thing?
Myron
Well, his ceiling, he had already shown us a higher ceiling than Sam Donald before, but.
Matt
But that was before, and I hate to mention it, but that was before the injuries and before sort of, you know, a situation where they don't want to get him out of the pocket as much. I mean, it was a different time.
Myron
What Sam Donald has shown is that if you have the right system to play to the skill set of a guy who's in that 12 to 20 range of quarterbacks, you can win big. And I think TUA is in that range at his best.
Matt
He wasn't like to see him go.
Myron
I think Minnesota's the smartest place.
Matt
If you could put him in Minnesota, you think he could succeed at a high level?
Myron
I think Minnesota is the smartest place. Now, granted, you need Miami to do something with the financial numbers. I'm not smart enough to understand how all that works, but you're telling me he's throwing to Justin Jefferson and T.J. hawkinson and Jordan Addison and all those guys. Aaron Jones gets healthy. That's the perfect system for a guy with his skill set. He's going to need a lot of help, Matt, to be good again. I'm with that. But at his ceiling, I think TUA still has a run in him.
Matt
Justin Jefferson, by the way, gave me a head nod at Meteoro.
Myron
Did he? Was he wearing his chains? Do you see?
Matt
He gave me one of those, like, though. He gave me, like, a head nod, like, hey, what's up? Yeah, so I feel like that's. He and I have a connection.
Myron
Yeah. I want to see him succeed. He wears, like eight chains. I mean, still.
Matt
But, like, he didn't have to give me the heads up. Like, he didn't give it to everybody.
Myron
He probably. He probably did. He probably gave it to more people than you realize.
Matt
I didn't say. Felt like I was the one to get it. Felt like he was like, hey, you're that guy from Matt Myron, right? And so I was like, I hope.
Myron
So, I hope so.
Matt
But usually Kyler Murray, he's. He's. He's little. Yeah, he's just a wee, little bit of quarterback.
Myron
So, like, he's a toddler man.
Matt
Can he play? Can he play in today's NFL? And would you want him on a team?
Myron
No, I, I think the small quarterback era is over. Even if you tell me, as a skill set, the durability is an issue. You can bring up A guy like Bryce Young.
Matt
So I stood next to Bryce Young. I interviewed him.
Myron
Shorter than me.
Matt
He's short, short. So if he can do it, why can't Kyler?
Myron
Bryce Young did it in the NFC South. Bryce Young did it when the Bucks basically said, we don't want to go to the playoffs, why don't you go? So I think Bryce Young had some good moments, but I don't think Bryce Young has proven that you can make that the prototype. It's just hard to win with small quarterbacks in the NFL. And Kyler Murray was one of the best in terms of the athleticism. The first guy, what top 10 in the NFL and major league Baseball drafts. All the things you see with Kyler Murray when he came out of college as the number one pick, I think Kyler Murray maybe the skill sets there, but the size in this era, I just think there's not enough room. Much like the NBA, you're not seeing the small point guards in the NBA anymore. Those guys are gone. And I think you're seeing the same thing in the NFL.
Matt
It feels like to me, this era can. It can still work because you can just be mobile. And the problem is, the problem for Kyler Murray is he can't hang out on the ball and he can't stay on the field. Like, those are the problems.
Myron
But the size is the part of that, though. Being a small guy in this NFL, it's hard to see a path to Kyler Murray suddenly become a durable quarterback. I just don't see how that can happen. I wouldn't risk them at all.
Matt
Kirk Cousins is, by my count, 62 years old. He now has. Is going to be released before the start of the year in March, and they're going to allow. The Falcons are going to allow him to choose where he wants to play. A, would you want him as a team? And B, if you were Kirk Cousins, where would you choose?
Myron
I think you would want Kirk Cousins if you have a young quarterback that you still aren't sure about and you want sort of that veteran backup to maybe be his mentor.
Matt
So is that Minnesota?
Myron
It has to be. I think that's the only place.
Matt
Go back to Minnesota because I think.
Myron
It'S a perfect situation. His best football was in Kevin o' Connell system. Minnesota doesn't know if they have a quarterback that they trust in JJ McCarthy. They just fired their GM because JJ McCarthy hasn't proven to be the prodigy that maybe people thought he would be. You bring in Kirk Cousins, you make him the mentor, and you make it clear if JJ stumbles early in the season, Kirk Cousins comes in and now if you're Minnesota, you start to look to the 2027 NFL Draft for your quarterback. So I think that to me is a perfect situation.
Matt
So you rank them what you rank them to a Kirk Kyler. Is that your ranking system?
Myron
Yeah, just I don't think you can win with small quarterbacks. I think Kirk, would you put like.
Matt
Is there anybody you would put ahead of them? Are there any of these backups out there, your Mac Jones, your Gardner men shoes or any of those people you'd put ahead of them?
Myron
I mean Mac Jones would probably be at the top. I don't think they're going to move. I don't know if they're going to move them like you.
Matt
No, they're not. But I'm just saying if you got.
Myron
To choose one, I mean Tool was a starter who won games, right? Like Kyler Murray was a starter.
Matt
I mean you're reaching back, you're. I mean you're reaching back to do.
Myron
That 2023 for 4,000 yards though.
Matt
Yeah, but lots happened since 2023 for him. You know, I this and I may end up looking foolish on this. I'm not ready to give up for Kyler Murray. I think he's been in a horrible situation. I think he's had to have a merry go round of coaches. He. I think he's a guy again. I would have to see what coach thinks. They can work with him. But he's a guy I would not be completely ready to give up on. I'd at least give a year go with him. If you had a young, I mean one of these teams that may draft a quarterback in the third or fourth round, I could see giving Kyler Murray and that person a chance.
Myron
I think we like the idea of Kyler Murray because of how incredible he was coming out of college and we'd never seen a two sport athlete like that since probably Bo Jackson. But the reality Jacoby Brissette came into that Cardinals offense, it was better than Kyler Murray had.
Matt
That's true. He was so.
Myron
I mean that says something about him.
Matt
Would you rather have Kyler Murray or Shador Sanders starting if you were the Kyler Murray?
Myron
I wouldn't start Shador at all. I mean Kyler Murray definitely man like lasting. It's not about liking. I don't care about liking anybody. Do you win or not? We got to get away from this liking stuff in pro sports with guys are making millions. Are you winning or are you not. That's all I care about.
Matt
I like your hair. You're trying to. You're trying to get rid of. I mean, I like it like, I'm.
Myron
Not in control of whether I get rid of it at this point, but where I'm at now, I'm comfortable.
Matt
I'm just saying, for me, the shaving is working. For you. I don't think you need to try to grow like, I don't think you need to try to grow these patches. I think you just go with what's got you here.
Myron
I follow Beyonce, whatever she says on.
Matt
This, but Beyonce and you are not in the hair, same hair situation. I've been known.
Myron
I've been called the Beyonce of, you know, in certain walks of life. You know, no one's called you that.
James
Beyonce of Matt Myron.
Myron
I've been called that before.
James
So.
Matt
Yeah, no, I, I would be the Beyonce. He's more like Kelly Rowe.
James
Come on.
Myron
No, not Kelly Rowland. She's incredible, man.
Matt
Well, I'm not. I'm saying that to you. I'm not knocking you. You're where you're talented. It's all right. It is. When we come back, we got more to do. We got to pick the super bowl and we got to get you ready. We're gonna have a celebrity guest picker. It's somebody goes vroom, vroom, 200 miles an hour next weekend. That's next here on Matt Myron on ESPN Radio.

It is Matt Myron here on ESPN Radio on an absolutely beautiful day here in San Francisco. I've been out here all week for the Super Bowl. Unfortunately, Myron, I haven't been here all week and I'm about to get on a plane. I'm gonna be flying during the game, which is kind of weird to come to the super bowl, but I couldn't. I didn't get credentialed for the game, so I can't actually go to the actual football game.
Myron
You're not gonna watch on the plane? You can't watch on the plane?
Matt
I think. Well, I mean, you know, some planes have those TVs where you can watch them and some of them don't. So hopefully this is one that does.
Myron
Yeah.
Matt
So that I can see my guy Brad Bunny, and get ready for Green Day and all the rest of the excitement.
Myron
Because that's like, what is that, a six hour flight? How far? How many?
Matt
I think it's like four and a half. I mean, we go, we go to Atlanta and then I have a layover. I like the layover. Now. I know I'm a bit. I'm big on, like, watching, like, because I've got like three hour layover. So I can sit in the bar in the airport.
Myron
Oh, yeah, that's the way to do.
Matt
It, you know, Have a Diet Coke and watch the, and watch the game. I kind of like airport layovers. I feel like it's a good restful time.
Myron
And I've been in airports during the Super Bowl. It's actually a good atmosphere because, like, it's. It's a bunch of people who are all, like, watching the game, they're traveling. So it's kind of cool, the vibe.
Matt
I'll tell you what's not a good atmosphere. You know, you and I did the, the New Orleans bowl and I had to fly home on, on Chris, Christmas Eve, and my flight was delayed and I made a big mistake in the Atlanta airport, which is I ate at the Atlanta Hawks restaurant.
Myron
Okay.
Matt
I can tell you what's depressing.
Myron
Yeah.
Matt
Eating Christmas Eve dinner alone at the Atlanta Hawks airport restaurant.
Myron
Listen, man, it's the life of a traveler, though, man. Like, when you. Like, that's what it is.
Matt
I want you to think about what the Atlanta Hawks have been as a franchise, and that's the level of food they have at the restaurant.
Myron
I mean, you weren't there with Trey Young, were you? I mean, you were just like, no, you're just hanging out, man.
Matt
I was there with John Konak.
Myron
Hey, listen, man, that's the life of a travel. I've done it. I've watched a couple of Super Bowls in airports. I've watched a Super bowl in baggage claim before because I landed and it was like the second half of the New England Seattle. The game. The game where Marshawn lynch should have been handed the ball. Like, I watched that in bag.
Matt
Let me say, by the way, since Marshawn lynch both was part of that game and we're here in San Francisco, which is right next to Berkeley where he went to college and he, of course, played a year or two in San Francisco. The. This has been the Marshawn Lynch Show.
Myron
Yes.
Matt
Like, he, like, he literally. You couldn't have had a person more famous than Marshawn lynch was this week.
Myron
Well, he. He just shows up places and people give him money to appear. I don't know if he has a PR team, but he just. I mean, how many people have created a post football career as a running back? Sure, quarterbacks do it easy, but as a running back, it's been incredible to watch.
Matt
I also like how many people are at the Super Bowl, Former players that are sponsored by things.
Myron
Yes.
Matt
So you just be walking around and you'll see, you know, I don't know. You'll see. Just pick your person. Tony Gonzalez.
Myron
Yeah.
Matt
You'll be like, hey, Tony Gonzalez. And he'll go, no, that's Tony Gonzalez. Let me tell you about Ritz Crack.
Myron
Exactly. I'm here for cheese. Like what?
Matt
You know, he sees like. Okay, well, Tony, I didn't know you had these strong thoughts. Aud on it now. Next Sunday, by the way, is the Daytona 500, the Super bowl of NASCAR racing. We are looking forward to it. This is the one week a year where I teach Myron about nascar. We were supposed to have a driver on with us, but he is not here, so. Nevertheless, I just want you to be ready for the Daytona 500 next week. Are you excited to go watch them go 200 laps in a circle?
Myron
Yeah. I mean, I want to see how the cars handle, you know, I'm hearing That.
Matt
Is that what you want to see? You want to see how the cars handle?
Myron
I'm hearing how to try a lot of things. Wedge pulling to the right a little bit. So you gotta hold it on that third turn. People are talking about that. And what. You got to keep your poise. Keep your poise.
Matt
Did you say it was pulling to the right?
Myron
It's pulling to the right on the third turn.
Matt
You don't want them to pull to the right on the track where everybody goes left.
Myron
Well, everybody fix the car because that's what's happened. I'm just telling you what I'm hearing from the people I know.
Matt
It is now time for. For us to not only talk about pulling to the right, but to take your pick.
Myron
Take your pick.
Matt
You take your pick.
Podcast Announcer
It's time to take your pick with Matt and Myron.
Matt
All right, James, what do we got going today in the world of sports?
James
Well, I didn't plan for this because we're just going to do the super bowl with the driver that didn't call in. So why don't we just do the Super Bowl?
Podcast Announcer
The New England Patriots versus the Seattle Seahawks at Super Bowl 60.
Matt
Hi, James. I mean, you're telling me there's no. Nothing else you could have added to this?
Myron
There's no NBA games.
James
Like I said, I wasn't expecting this. And you kind of. There's no NBA game.
Matt
Here we go on the fly. Say we're about to go off the air because the Knicks are playing the Celtics. The game is in Boston. It's going to be here on espn.
James
Brady, Celtics are three and a half point favorites on draft.
Matt
That's right.
James
Myron, who do you like here?
Matt
See, these are the things we could have ad lib there. James, go ahead.
Myron
The Celtics have been really good somehow, surprisingly, without Jason Tatum. You know, you. You wonder if the Vuchevich move means that Tatum might be coming back as Boston tries to chase the top seed. I think this is a statement game for the Celtics after making a big move at the trade deadline to say that they might be the team to beat in the Eastern Conference.
Matt
Do you like the Vusovich move?
Myron
Yeah. To me, it makes more sense of Tatum's coming back. Like, it makes more sense if you tell me that they're basically just trying to hold on.
Matt
I had the opposite view, which was this is a way to compete even if he doesn't come back because they've been good without him. Yeah, we'll see. As far as tonight, I like the Knicks. You know, they ended up. Obviously the Giannis trade didn't occur. They brought in a one piece at the trade deadline. I'll take the Knicks to win on the road. Bigger picture, I think the east is completely wide open with Detroit, the Knicks, Celtics, Philly, if you can keep Embiid healthy. And then now that Cleveland's got James Harden, I think the east became iron a much more interesting playoff series than it was. He's already played the sound so let's just go with the Super Bowl. Seahawks are four and a half point favorites against the Patriots. Maybe the most un the most surprising super bowl matchup we've ever had.
Myron
How do you think it ends up? Defense has never won a championship in the history of sports, right? You can't hide your quarterbacks and I think the idea is that Sam Darnold is going to be able to hide behind this defense on the biggest stage. I just don't think that happens. So it does come down to who can outdo the other quarterback and what I think would be a close game because Patriots have a good defense too. No one's talking about that. I just think it's going to come down to who makes more mistakes. Sam Darnold I think makes a big mistake in the third quarter, maybe the fourth quarter. Drake May capitalizes and the Patriots with their run game controls the tempo of the game with Trevion Henderson and Ramandre Stevens Stevenson and I think they win the game. Give me the Patriots.
Matt
Interesting to me how you say you can't have the quarterback that could go either way. I mean Drake May's kind of been hidden in the last couple games. He hasn't really played well in these playoff games, but the defense has has taken them through. I like the Seahawks because I think it's going to become down to big plays. These two teams have done great this year in big plays, but the Seahawks have been the best team in the league and in big play differential. I think they've got a couple guys, Walker, Jackson, Smith and Jigba who can make the plays that take to take a game that's pretty close and they make the difference. I'm gonna say Seahawks win 24 to 17 based on big plays. I appreciate you very much. I hope you Enjoy yourself and Mr. Modern Metcalf coverage of Nick Celtics is next. Enjoy the Super Bowl.
