Matt Jones
I'm ready to play football. I've been waiting a long time for this moment.
Herm Edwards
Time is here.
Myron Metcalf
Time is no.
ESPN Radio Host
This is the countdown to kickoff on ESPN Radio.
Herm Edwards
It is countdown to kickoff here, hour number two, ESPN Radio presented by Progressive Insurance. Dr. Pepper. Call in line 888. Say ESPN. Matt Jones and Myron Metcalf. People have strong thoughts about your milk comment. One person writes about my milk comment.
Matt Jones
What was my milk machine?
Herm Edwards
Remember 772-774-5254. One person writes, Tell Myron almond milk is gross and it is not better for you than dairy milk. It's actually worse. It is a foo foo thing. Rich people like Myron drink.
Matt Jones
I don't know what foo foo is. And I'm not.
Herm Edwards
Fufu is like sort of, you know, pinky, finger in the air, uppity. It's like uppity milk.
Matt Jones
I'm at the grocery store like everybody else. I mean, I'm not. I'm not.
Herm Edwards
What grocery store? Grocery stores in Middlesboro, Kentucky don't have almond milk. I can just tell you.
Matt Jones
Yes, they do. They all do.
Herm Edwards
No, they don't.
Matt Jones
I drink regular milk, too. I just save a lot.
Herm Edwards
In Middlesboro, Kentucky, I guarantee you does.
Matt Jones
Not have call to save a lot. I guarantee to save a lot. Today has some. I guarantee y'all everywhere.
Herm Edwards
Almond milk, by the way, is made by soaking almonds in water, grinding them.
Myron Metcalf
And then straining the liquid from the pulp.
Herm Edwards
We don't. You want me to go up? We don't have any almonds. You're sitting here. They do not have almond milk and save a lot in Middlesbrough.
Matt Jones
Okay, but the same people texting. You want me to just walk up to a cow, milk it and then throw it back?
Herm Edwards
I don't think throw it back. Throw the cow.
Matt Jones
I mean, like, like the cup. You know, you throw a few, like. Yeah, like you drink the milk. That's what I'm saying.
Herm Edwards
Matt, I think you're insane. All adults should drink two glasses of milk a day. The fact that you don't drink them says a lot about the way you look at the world. Well, that's kind of mean.
Matt Jones
I. I don't know what that means. Your people always, like, throw a twist at the end of these text messages. Like, you think it's gonna be one thing. Southern people poke you on the way out. I realize, like, everything can be good, but at the end, they're gonna make.
Herm Edwards
Sure you feel it wasn't at you.
Matt Jones
I know, but I mean, this the way it took a turn.
Herm Edwards
I don't drink milk. And I do think if you look at one consistent thing, when you watch movies or television shows about psychopaths, the one consistent trait they have is they drink milk. Like, if you watch something. No, serious. If you watch something about, like, Dahmer or Ted Bundy or Hannibal Lecter that they all. There's always a scene where they're drinking milk. Because psychopaths are milk people.
Matt Jones
Hold on a second. So you got your milk take off? Silence of the Lambs. I'm just telling you, I don't really know the destiny. Okay?
Herm Edwards
RFK I have never watched a movie or a television show with a person that I thought was normal where they show them just drinking a bunch of milk. It doesn't happen.
Matt Jones
What sitcoms were you watching in Kentucky? Because all the sitcoms had kids drinking milk and having a good life.
Herm Edwards
Kids are different. I'm talking about adults drinking milk. Children should drink milk. It's good for their bones. You put your cereal in it. But if you're an adult and you sit there and gobble a big drink of milk, you are a psychopath. Bob, in North Carolina, are you. Are you a psychopath?
Caller
No, I'm a doctor. And I can tell you that milk is really not good for you after the age of about 5.
Herm Edwards
Thank you.
Caller
Most people don't drink 2% if they drink milk as adults are drinking whole milk, which is so bad for you, it's ridiculous.
Herm Edwards
Thank you. What about almond milk?
Matt Jones
What kind of doctor are you, Bob? What kind of doctor are you?
Caller
I'm a urologist, but urologist has not much to do with it.
Herm Edwards
Good enough. Yeah, that's good enough.
Matt Jones
You got a lot of milk cases in your practice, Bob? Bob, you got a lot of milk.
Myron Metcalf
You.
Caller
Doctor? Yes, absolutely. The fat in milk for children is good for their brain development, but after you're a child, it's not good for it. And God knows, if it's not organic milk, what's in it. It's just like the beef. If you're drinking milk as an adult, you're waiting to be a diabetic.
Herm Edwards
Thank you very much, Bob. Appreciate the call. I feel like that's all we needed to say right there. My. I said psychopaths and now unhealthy People are the ones that drink.
Matt Jones
Dr. Bob, I feel like that's your uncle who called. I don't know if that's really. I don't really know about that call.
Herm Edwards
If you haven't, you agree or disagree? 888 say ESPN. I think Bob has given us a good take that we need today. The Jaguars play the lines today. I kind of feel like Dan Campbell might drink milk, but if he was.
Matt Jones
Going to, he definitely drinks milk.
Herm Edwards
He kind of looks like a guy.
Matt Jones
That can on the sidelines.
Herm Edwards
He probably drinks it those cartons and he bends it and then breaks it.
Matt Jones
Yeah, on the sidelines.
Herm Edwards
I could see it. The Jaguars play the Lions. Lions are a 13 point favorite at home. They have an 8 and 1 start to their season, the best since 1954 when they went to the championship game. They are your super bowl pick right now, am I right?
Matt Jones
Yeah. I mean, to get there. Yeah. I think this is a team where like if you're going to lose, you lose last week. Right. I mean Derek Goff throws five picks, hadn't thrown an interception since week three. Only had, I think four to that point. And he threw five in that game. But they still find a way to win, you know, and if you're going to face that kind of a moment and you go on the road and be the team like Houston, I think that just says a lot about who they are and really like their confidence. Like Dan Campbell has these guys playing together, they're playing for him. And Jacksonville is a mess top to bottom. Trevor Lawrence, obviously one of the worst in terms of overpaid guys so far. If you just look at what we've seen the last couple of years, maybe he comes back and reaches whatever ceiling he has, but he's not the elite guy we thought he would be. Doug Peterson probably not going to get another year after this. So there's just a lot happening with that organization. Whereas the Lions last week, man, if you doubted them, then how they play in a really difficult game. I think they made a lot of believers out of their outcome last week.
Herm Edwards
Yeah, Trevor Lawrence is out tonight. So you get Mac Jones.
Matt Jones
Yeah, he's out. But I mean like the organization, I mean that's the challenge they're having with. What do you do with him going forward if he's just not good or not playing to that level?
Herm Edwards
I think the lions, I mean 13. I think the Lions might win by. I mean I just with. With Mac Jones as the quarterback. And I think if you're Dan Campbell, you want to get a Big lead here. Be able to kind of sit on the sidelines in the second half, drink your milk and feel. Feel good about the game. So I don't. I'm not. I think this could be a big victory today for Detroit. Randy is in South Carolina. Randy, I assume you have a milk take.
Caller
I do. Amen. I enjoy y'all show every week. I listen to y'all all the time. But I don't understand what your uncle acting like a doctor was talk. Talking about with this milk thing. Probably 95% of people in the military have no choice but to drink milk because when you go into chow hall, that's all you got for breakfast and is there for lunch and is there for.
Herm Edwards
Okay, wait a minute. Hang on just a second. Is that. Hang on just a second. Let me, Let me stop right there. Randy, is that true? We are only serving our military milk like they're 8 year olds?
Caller
For breakfast, it's milk and coffee. That's it. But for lunch and dinner, you have milk as an option. Very cold milk, but.
Herm Edwards
Okay, but how many people in the.
Matt Jones
Military though good enough for the military, but not for Mac?
Herm Edwards
How many people in the military are going to dinner and choosing milk? I can't imagine it's a high number.
Matt Jones
All of them.
Caller
Well, I know of one I did every. Every dinner. I enjoy milk. I'm not a psychopath.
Matt Jones
I don't think so. Look at Rand. First off, Randy, thank you for your service. I'm sorry. Matt accused everybody who drinks milk of being a psychopath when it sounds like it is the foundation of the entire military. So I mean, thank you for that. I trust that opinion versus, you know, you've over adopted.
Herm Edwards
Is that right? Like, okay, so you're trusting not to. Not to disparage. Randy, thank you for your service. But you're choosing Randy, who just had milk at dinner when he was in the military over a doctor.
Matt Jones
I didn't like the way Bob said he was a doctor. Like, I need. I need more information. Whereas Randy, it sounds like he was in the military and experience.
Herm Edwards
Randy, what percentage of your. Of your military cohorts there drank milk with you at dinner?
Caller
Quite a few people were up at the milk dispenser getting milk.
Herm Edwards
Everybody, they got a milk dispenser in the military.
Caller
Chocolate milk.
Matt Jones
Chocolate milk is different.
Herm Edwards
Chocolate milk, though. You're drinking it for the sugar though, right? You're not drinking it for the milk.
Caller
That's the same reason I drink tea.
Herm Edwards
Exactly. So I don't know that I appreciate the call. I don't know that Randy is our health expert if he's now acknowledging that he's drinking it for the sugar. Let's go to Vicky in Florida. She'll give a good perspective. Vicki, what do you got? Vicky?
Matt Jones
Vicky, you there? You drive my name with us?
Herm Edwards
Your name's toonie? Cindy. Cindy, go ahead.
Caller
I like milk.
Herm Edwards
You like milk?
Caller
Yeah, I do.
Herm Edwards
And I just looked it up and.
Caller
It said it may help lower type 2 diabetes.
Herm Edwards
When you say. But when you say you looked it up, where did you look it up? Was that on Truth Social? Where did you look it up?
Caller
I googled it. I said, but.
Herm Edwards
I know, but, Vicky, when you google something, you still need to see where the information is coming from.
Caller
So the headline. And then you came up and.
Matt Jones
No, I trust you, Vic. Cindy, I trust. So you trust. You trust a guy calling in saying he's a doctor, but all these other people who don't trust Cindy just googled.
Herm Edwards
It and so, like, it must be right because like, what? Cindy, will you do me a favor? Are you driving, Cindy?
Caller
Yeah, but I'm not on the Internet now.
Herm Edwards
Don't be on the Internet while you're driving. I appreciate you listening to the show. Okay, Cindy.
Matt Jones
Okay.
Caller
Ghost dealers.
Herm Edwards
All right, there you go. See, Cindy's Googling and driving, and that's not who you want to get your information for. So far we have a doctor, we have a chocolate milk drinker and a Google and driver here on your side.
Matt Jones
Don't call him a chocolate milk drinker. When he was a military guy, the whole military dream.
Herm Edwards
I appreciate the military, but just because the military, like military, that doesn't mean that he's a. He's a medical expert. It means he's a. He's a serviceman. But that's not the same thing.
Matt Jones
But it means people who are prepared to do battle are being given milk because clearly there's some bitch they're giving me.
Herm Edwards
I don't know that I was wrong. I'm not saying Dr. Bob was wrong, but I wouldn't mind a second opinion. Okay, well, let's go to. Let's go to Chris in Washington. Go ahead, Chris. What's your opinion?
Caller
Well, I'll tell you right now. I am not a doctor, but my wife is a nutritionist. He won't talk to y'all. And she just laughing about this whole milk thing where people got it mixed up. It depends on who doctors y'all talking to. You know, group of doctors that agree. A doctor's agree on one thing and then they'll Disagree on exact same thing a little bit later.
Herm Edwards
I don't think that's true.
Caller
One of your gentlemen called in, talk about, walked about, talked about organic milk. Organic milk is the way to go. If you're going to drink milk because of all the processing we have nowadays, what you want to stay away from is those so called nut milkshake.
Herm Edwards
Which is what? That's.
Matt Jones
Listen to the nutritionist.
Herm Edwards
No, no, stop, stop. Everybody stop. Don't tell me to hold on. This is our show, all right? You will hold on. No offense, all right? Now I'm trying to run a show. You don't get to tell me to hold on. All right? So your nut milk. I agree with you on the nut milk, but let me go back to your point. A second ago you said raw milk is the way to go. Does that mean you are a raw milk person?
Myron Metcalf
Yes.
Caller
It's not like straight from the other. It's somewhat processed, but it is close to organic. It does not last as long because it's not processed.
Matt Jones
Okay.
Caller
Let me tell you something about these nut milk things. Nuts like almonds have lectins in them. Lectins is the skin on the nut and it will put holes in your stomach.
Herm Edwards
I appreciate that. I appreciate the call. Let me just tell you who's on your side. Let's just go through who's on your side. Okay, you've got on on my side. I've got a doctor on your side. You have a guy talking about lectums and you have a guy asking you to drink utter milk. You also have a googler and a driver. Yeah. And you've got a guy who says he likes chocolate milk now.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Herm Edwards
You can pick your side here, Byron, but I feel pretty good in my side as opposed to your side.
Matt Jones
Yeah. These people are like, you gotta go get a cow because that's the only way you can drink milk. What are you talking about, man?
Herm Edwards
I'm just telling you. And the nutritionist, who I would have listened to wouldn't get on the phone. I think that's also important.
Matt Jones
I don't trust it. I want to hear from her directly.
Herm Edwards
This was the nutritionist spokeswoman or spokesman. I'm just saying. All right, we're going to take. We got to get out of here. If you want to. Tim, Chris, we'll try to get to you. We're going to take up more of your calls. Hopefully Herb Edwards joins us. I like who's on whose side here. We'll be right back. This is cow Daddy kickoff. Hey, I'm Ryan Reynolds. Recently I asked Mint Mobile's legal team.
Myron Metcalf
If big wireless companies are allowed to.
Herm Edwards
Raise prices due to inflation.
Myron Metcalf
They said yes.
Herm Edwards
And then when I asked if raising prices technically violates those onerous two year contracts, they said, what the are you talking about? You insane Hollywood.
Myron Metcalf
So to recap, we're cutting the price.
Herm Edwards
Of mint unlimited from $30 a month.
Myron Metcalf
To just $15 a month. Give it a try@mintmobile.com switch.
Matt Jones

ESPN Radio Host
Football Sunday on ESPN Radio. Mac Jones and the Jacksonville Jaguars head to the Motor City to face the NFC leading Detroit Lions.
Matt Jones
We're in the meat of it.
Myron Metcalf
Just head down and we just keep plowing forward.
ESPN Radio Host
The Jaguars at the Lions coverage begins today at noon Eastern with kickoff at 1 Eastern on select ESPN radio stations. Matt and Myron, the podcast people just.
Herm Edwards
Like weighing in on this milk topic. I'm not gonna lie to you. It's kinda kickoff here on ESPN Radio. For those of you that missed earlier, I said I thought people who drink milk as an adult are psychopaths.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Herm Edwards
And then we had a doctor call it and say milk is not healthy for adults. And a lot of people have gotten very worked up about that. All of those people have a common thread which is that none of them are scientifically trained. Myron but beyond that, it's nice to hear people's opinion.
Matt Jones
Well, it's also easy for people to call us and say I'm a doctor. And we automatically believe them during the break though, you know, milk psychopath dude over here also said, I don't know why people want to live that long.
Herm Edwards
So just be clear, that's not a controversial opinion. We were talking about how like they say people can live to be 110 to 120. I don't know why you want to live that long. Like have you ever said like, that's a.
Matt Jones
You wouldn't choose that.
Herm Edwards
I mean, if you could tell me that I could be exactly like I am now until I'm 120. Sure. But I'm going to age. Like, it gets harder to do everything. And, I mean, do I want to be 104 years old, having to have somebody take care of me just because I drank? And then I just because I drank milk instead of Diet Coke, which I like. Give me the Diet Coke and I'll take a few less years. My.
Matt Jones
Not me. My dream is to be on somebody's porch and just tell stories about the good old days. Like, I want to be what you do now. I want to be that. I know. I. But I mean, my goal. My goal is to be in the neighborhood with a big porch, and people walk by and they go, tell me about the 80s, you know, like, I just want to be that. So I'll take 120.
Herm Edwards
Bill in Texas. What do you got, Bill?
Myron Metcalf
I just wanted to say that the only psychopaths are people that spend half an hour talking about milk instead of talking about sports.
Herm Edwards
But you know who's the only bigger psychopath? The person that listens to that, gets mad and then calls in to complain. Complain about it. Those are the real psychopaths. Those are the people you have to worry about.
Caller
Oh, my goodness.
Myron Metcalf
I grew up on a ranch, and I milked a cow every morning.
Caller
And raw milk is kind of weird.
Myron Metcalf
Because the cream doesn't separate real good.
Herm Edwards
Sounds awesome. Thank you, Bill. Appreciate your call. See you also got him on your side, Myron, so far, you are lining up an eclectic group of people on your side.
Matt Jones
I don't know that he was on my side. He just said he used to milk a cow. Like, how is that on my team, Matt? You give me all these extra people, man. I don't know if they're on my side or not.
Herm Edwards
Matt, where in Kentucky are you from?
Caller
I am on Jellicoe Mountain headed back to Lexington.
Herm Edwards
Oh, dude, Jellicoe Mountain. Let me tell you, Myron, that's the barrier between Kentucky and Tennessee. When I was a kid, you could get liquor on in Tennessee and Jellicoe Mountain, and you couldn't get it in Kentucky. Very treacherous path of road, Matt, so be careful.
Caller
All righty. Well, I had to make a call to Middlesboro. They do have the almond milk.
Herm Edwards
They do not. Thank you.
Matt Jones
Thank you, Matt.
Herm Edwards
You're lying. Which grocery store? Hang on. Which grocery store did you call in Middlesboro?
Caller
I called the Save a lot.
Herm Edwards
And thank you.
Caller
The accent was Middlesboro for sure.
Matt Jones
Thank you.
Herm Edwards
Stop it, man. I Appreciate. Thank you. See? See, they call it the Save a.
Matt Jones
Lot challenges, bro, but, like, people are proving you wrong, and you just won't accept it. But you believe Bob, the doctor who just said, I'm a doctor, and that's the one support you have.
Herm Edwards
First of all, I don't believe he called a lot. All right?
Matt Jones
And I also appreciate that he called it the almond milk. You know, he called it like he was.
Herm Edwards
I will say this. If you did call the Save a Lot in Middlesboro, I will give you a salute. That would mean that would be. That would be a commitment to the show. Mike in Texas. Go ahead, Mike in Texas.
Caller
Hey, man. Say, hey. Thank y'all for taking my call, man.
Matt Jones
Thank you.
Caller
We're the only animals, the only mammals that continue to drink milk after we weaned, after, you know, we started eating food.
Herm Edwards
Thank you.
Matt Jones
Why?
Caller
Why we out back stealing milk from cows and, you know, and. And drinking milk because we still think we babies. We. You know, that's why we have a society of babies. Cause they middle of the night.
Matt Jones
See, that took a turn. Hold on a second, Mike. That took a turn we were talking about. Okay, you happy with the nature thing? Hold on, hold on. You happy with the nature thing?
Caller
How you milk an almond?
Matt Jones
Okay, but, Mike, you have me.
Caller
Why we call it almond milk?
Matt Jones
Okay, hold on, Mike, Mike, Mike. You had me with the nature thing and animals, and then you turned it into a take on society. So I think that was really what you were going for. It says nothing. Mike. This has nothing to do with milk. Does it for you? This is just. The world is changing.
Herm Edwards
You don't like it.
Caller
We still own. We still own the tit. Too long as a society, we gotta get out there and be grown up.
Matt Jones
So you think. You think a tiger can just go to the grocery store and get some milk? I mean, it's not available to the animal kingdom. I mean, that's the first problem, right? Of course.
Caller
No, the first problem. My mother stopped producing milk after I got weaned. You know, I'm like, hey, that's a sign that you can move on to do something else. Consume other things. Leave the milk alone.
Matt Jones
Still need.
Herm Edwards
Thank you, Mike. Appreciate the call. Science. You know what? That could be a good segment. Science. Nothing to do with milk from Texas. He switched that to his views about.
Matt Jones
Society that had nothing to do with milk.
Herm Edwards
Mike, that was a great transition. So you give me. Myron has the people. He has. I'll take Dr. Bob at North Carolina and Mike in Texas. And I think we win the argument that thank you all very much for calling and participating on our milk conversation. Herm Edwards Myron's going to come next. I'm going to bet you he has a take on this as well. He's also going to tell us everything about the NFL going this week. Remember big games this weekend? We got Raven, Steelers, we got Chiefs, Bills, and we got Bengals and Chargers coming up. That's all this weekend. We will deal with it. ESPN Radio Host
Radio and the ESPN app Matt and Myron the podcast.
Myron Metcalf
You can't sit here and tell me.
Herm Edwards
Right now that the Pittsburgh Steelers aren't.
Myron Metcalf
One of the best teams in the AFC.
Matt Jones
Since week nine of 2022, the Detroit.
Myron Metcalf
Lions are 28 and eight. The Kansas City Chiefs have won 15 straight games. 12 have been by one score. So I'm looking at a team who looks so formidable that they could possibly.
Herm Edwards
Take you do not count out the 49ers. I counted them out a couple weeks ago because I Frankly thought Christian McGowry's in Germany and this looks different. They compete in this nfc. Big day of games all across the NFL and so who better to talk about them than Herm Edwards? ESPN's NF analyst Herm. Before we start with the games, you got to hear that little conversation, you pro or con? Milk.
Myron Metcalf
I don't mind drinking milk. I grew up a carnation baby, though. So let's get that perfectly clear. And I think, what does that mean? That means when you get my age, you got smooth skin. Carnation baby.
Matt Jones
Just remember that.
Myron Metcalf
So, okay, that's the milk discussion.
Herm Edwards
I don't know what that means. You do look good for your age, though, Herb. I'm not gonna lie. All right, Chiefs 9 and 0 play the Bills today. I feel like I've said this to you every week. Until the Chiefs lose, I'm picking them. Do I keep doing that today or is this where the train ends?
Myron Metcalf
No, I think you should pick them. Because the one thing about the Chiefs right now, they're very comfortable in one score games. They don't panic. They just feel like at the end somebody's going to make a play and we're going to end up winning a game. Last week it was special team. I do think the Buffalo Bills are very comfortable playing the Kansas City Chiefs in the regular season. They're 3 and 1. I think the last three they've actually won in a regular season. So, you know, when you look at it. But I think at the end, it does really matter today. I mean, it would matter to the Chiefs, obviously, because then they couldn't go 10 and 0 and they're chasing history.
Herm Edwards
What could matter for home field? There's a chance this could come down to a tie. Yeah.
Myron Metcalf
Don't win. Chiefs don't matter if they go on the road or at home. They travel well. This is a good football team. They won two Super Bowls. Guys, this is all stuff. Fan base.
Herm Edwards
Yeah.
Myron Metcalf
Your fan base would love for all your games to be at home. I get all that. But the Chiefs can win in numerous ways because they are a team that understands that more games are lost in one and you're going to make a mistake. The opponent's going to make a mistake somewhere along the line. If it's a tight football game, that's what happened last week. Got a field goal block. Bam. End of the game. Here we go.
Herm Edwards
But do you look at that as a mistake, or do you look at that as the Chiefs making a play?
Myron Metcalf
Both. Because some teams can't play under pressure. They can play under pressure. They've won two Super Bowls, by the way. This team knows how to play under pressure. It's just that's what they do.
Matt Jones
Herm, I saw some of the worst football of my life in person at Soldier Field last weekend with Caleb Williams. And listen, I walked into that game and Matt was there too. And you know, clearly the coaching issues, the offensive line, all of that was clear. You know, we knew that that would be a challenge. But then I watched Caleb Williams specifically, and I saw a guy who just didn't look special to me. How did you see last week and just overall with Caleb Williams and what is his real ceiling? If they put the right pieces around.
Myron Metcalf
Him, I think he's going to be a good quarterback. And I think sometimes we jump to conclusion on young quarterbacks. Jaden Daniels is the bar right now for all these quarterbacks. Yeah, when. When we got the best winning record right now, but although they've lost two in a row. But his numbers are interesting. Nine touchdowns, two interceptions. Bo Nicks, 10 touchdowns, six interceptions. Caleb Williams, nine touchdowns, five interceptions. Drake May, seven touchdowns, five interceptions. And I get it. I mean, you say. Well, no, I'm just saying that's what it looks like. It looks that way. And sometimes, you know, we look at the guy that's playing for us and we go, well, the guy's got a problem. You know, he doesn't have a problem. He's a rookie. And this is what it looks like. Peyton Manning threw 28 of them by 28 of them, by the way, I think this has to happen for Caleb Williams. You've got to allow him to be successful early in games. Don't allow him to hold onto the ball now. He's holding onto the ball too long. He's been sacked, what, 38 times already? You got to get the ball out of his hand, get it to Comet, get it to the running backs. Get. Get him fast completions so he gets the ball out of his hand. I see him now. He's holding. He sees the window open, but he's nervous about throwing it to the other guy. Get him some.
Matt Jones
But isn't that on him, Coach? Like, don't the special quarterbacks recognize those situations and make the most of it? Like, isn't that why you're the number one pick?
Myron Metcalf
I don't know that so much. Paid many through 28 interceptions, guys.
Matt Jones
But he asked. But he was special. But even with the interceptions, people knew there was something there. What has Caleb Williams done to make people feel like there's something there to think that he can be special?
Myron Metcalf
Oh, I think he has talent. I think he has a lot of talent. He has great arm strength, flexibility, can throw it at different angles. I just think it's A part of this whole team, the Chicago deal, you know, and here's the problem with the Chicago Bears as well. That division as a whole is the best division. 25 wins. When you think about all those teams in that division, they got 20. So you're talking about, except for the Bears, there's three teams in there fighting for playoff opportunities. We know Detroit's going to win the division, Minnesota sitting there, Green Bay sitting there. So, you know, I just think we expect so much out of these quarterbacks. And here's the problem. Jaden Daniels is playing so well. We're all looking at Washington and going well. Maybe we should have drafted Jaden. Just stick with your guy. I think when the season's over with, they're going to have to look at this offense and say, okay, how do we build the offense around the quarterback?
Herm Edwards
Get rid of the coach. That's what I would.
Myron Metcalf
Well, I'm not going to say that stuff like that. I don't.
Matt Jones
That's.
Myron Metcalf
That's not for me to say.
Herm Edwards
That's for Matt. I'll leave that alone. You do what you want. I'll be the one to go after that.
Myron Metcalf
This is guys show. You guys do what you want.
Matt Jones
He said it, not me, coach.
Myron Metcalf
I'm just a guest.
Herm Edwards
I said it. You can go ahead and write it down. The few things I know about you. One of the things I bet I is that there's a game today that is a Herm Edwards kind of game, which is Ravens and Steelers rivalry. You know, both teams playing well this year, a lot at stake. Great crowd. Am I right about that? Is that a Herm Edwards kind of game?
Myron Metcalf
You are absolutely correct. This is, you know, this is a little bit of the football history. When you think about the Steelers and the Ravens, it's kind of funny. The Ravens used to be the Baltimore Colts, but that's. Now they're the Ravens. But anyway, yeah, I just think it's two teams that understand that it's going to go through them to represent maybe the AFC along with the Chiefs. Right. I mean, the Chiefs are the big dog now, but this team, both these teams, they don't have a love loss for each other. It's a hard, you know, fought game. I thought, you know, it's a game where I think if you're, if you're the Baltimore Ravens, I think you have an advantage in this sense. Will you use two tight ends, one running back and two wide receivers. You extend those gaps now you put the Steelers in a bad way. They're a gap Short because of the two tight end looks of Andrews and likely I would start the game off that way and see how they adjust to it. You're going to get a lot of one on one coverage. All of a sudden outside. When you put two tight ends in the game, especially when you pair them on one side of the formation, you kind of pair them one on the line and one's in a wing. Put a wide receiver over there to create trips on the backside. You got one receiver and the running back, by the way, the running back is Henry. You got a problem because already you're saying we got to stop the run. So you're going to get a lot of one on one looks and you've created another gap that they have to try to cover. When you got two tight ends and a pair over there, that is a problem for defenses.
Matt Jones
Guys, one thing about the Jericho performance last week in the five interception game, you know, they won the game and I think the Lions still get to the Super Bowl. But it reminded me that I don't think the NFC has a Hall of Fame quarterback other than maybe Matthew Stafford. And I don't think, you know, you have to be a Hall of Fame quarterback in this area, I think, to win Super Bowls. Did that change anything for you in terms of how you see the Lions and their chances of getting to a Super bowl and having a chance to win?
Myron Metcalf
Uh, no. I think when you watch the Lions play, if you just took the emblem off their helmet and just said, watch this team play, you didn't know who they were, you go, oh, boy, they're really good. And they're really talented, too. They have a lot of good skill players that they don't get enough credit for. They. Because the coach, you know, he kind of sets the table of we're going to bite the kneecaps, we're going to be tough. And they're all that. But they've got skilled players. Now. That Jared Goff deal, that was a little bit bothersome, guys. That was like, oh, that's a lot of picks. That ain't a lot of picks. That's too many picks.
Matt Jones
Yeah, five of them.
Myron Metcalf
And see, so I look at it two ways. I said they survived it. And then I look at Houston, I'm going, what's wrong with Houston? Why can't they score in the second half? You turn the ball over five times, guys, you know the odds of you winning the football game, what the odds are, and you lost that game at home.
Matt Jones
That's a head scratcher problem.
Myron Metcalf
That's a head scratcher.
Herm Edwards
As you go into tonight, you got the Bengals and the Chargers. For the Bengals, I think this is a. You've got to win if you're going to make the playoffs. The good thing is you're going to be fighting with the Chargers for one of those spots. So it's a game you can get a tiebreaker. Do they go and get the big victory tonight on the road?
Myron Metcalf
No, I like this Charger team. I said it when the season started and no one would listen. I said, you better be watching these Chargers. Nah, first year coaching Chargers guys are good. They only given up 13 points a game on defense, by the way.
Matt Jones
Yeah, that's it.
Myron Metcalf
Thirteen. You win a lot of games giving up 13 points. And do the math. They got eight games left. Can they win half of them? I would probably say yeah. That gives them 10. They're not going to win the division. They'll probably split with the Chiefs.
Matt Jones
They will.
Myron Metcalf
The Chargers have just said they're a little bit better than people are giving them credit for. Now Cincinnati, this is going to be. How many times can Burroughs go back and throw the football? Is it 50 times? I don't know. And Jamar Chase, they can't. No one can cover that guy. And they got T. Higgins back. So this could be one of those games. But to the Chargers, the thing you're going to do is you're going to control the game. You're going to control possessions because you're going to run the ball. You're going to take time off the clock, take it all the way down to four seconds before you hike the ball, make it a slow game, keep Cincinnati's offense on the sideline. That's what he's going to do. You watch and see. That's how he's going to play this game. It's not going to be an 11 possession game. It's going to be eight. You get it eight times. Can you score enough to beat us? I don't think it happens. I think the Chargers win this game.
Matt Jones
Kyler Murray not getting a lot of praise, but he might be playing the best football of his career. Like, why aren't we talking more about the Arizona Cardinals and what they might be able to do in the playoffs?
Myron Metcalf
Because they're not the glamour team over there. Obviously it's the San Francisco and then it's the Rams and the Seattle and Arizona is kind of the afterthought. And you're right, you know, with now they. They've won four in a row. They're six and four. They're a team that. When you look at them, they're. They haven't lost a division game yet. They're 2 and 0 in the division. Everybody's got division losses except for them. Their defense is a lot better than people perceive. Their offense is electric. They got a big old runner. They got some wide receivers that can catch the ball. And they got a quarterback. I tell you what, guys, he is hard to tackle, man. And he's fast. He's faster than you imagine. Now, you know he's not very tall, so when he's running, don't. He's covering ground. Guys, when that guy takes off, you better look out. And they're a confident team, too. Now they know they can play in this NFC West. They're going to be a challenge down the stretch. You don't want to play these guys, these Cardinals.
Herm Edwards
I tell you, I know one guy that could cover them, though, and that's Herm Edwards. Right?
Myron Metcalf
You know what, espn? You laugh. You laugh when you turn around.
Matt Jones
I don't laugh. That's him.
Myron Metcalf
There's a reason. Hey, there's a reason. I had 38 of them.
Herm Edwards
I'm not lying. It ain't by accident.
Myron Metcalf
I tell you what.
Matt Jones
How many picks you have, Matt, in your career?
Herm Edwards
I don't have any picks.
Myron Metcalf
You come around and mess around with me, Beware.
Matt Jones
Beware saying not.
Herm Edwards
I got a question for you.
Myron Metcalf
Yes, sir.
Herm Edwards
You're. How old are you, if you don't mind me asking?
Myron Metcalf
Oh, I'm. I'm, I'm. I'm 70. I'm a carnation, baby.
Herm Edwards
We had, we had. We had a debate. Me, me, Me and a couple friends.
Myron Metcalf
Yes.
Herm Edwards
About what's the oldest age that you thought you could beat somebody up? Mine's going to be older than 70 cuz of you.
Myron Metcalf
I appreciate that.
Herm Edwards
Beat you up.
Myron Metcalf
Well, I appreciate that. I'm. Make sure I'm not saying because I got. I got one. One of my daughters in at Texas, University of Texas right now. She's a freshman, and I got one getting ready to leave. So you just put that out there for these college kids. Know who to that.
Matt Jones
Know who I wouldn't want to tussle with?
Herm Edwards
You don't do a Jason Kelsey thing with her. No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
Matt Jones
I wouldn't want. I'm good, man.
Myron Metcalf
I'm, I'm good. I'm. I'm good. Until you mess with family and then we got problems, you know what I'm saying?
Herm Edwards
Oh, wait a minute. I didn't Rush. You're giving a. You're giving a warning to all the.
Myron Metcalf
Students at Texas, them young boys. You're a gentleman. You be a gentleman. You be a gentleman with my daughter. She works for the football program. That's all I'm saying. Be a gentleman. Because if not, I'm gonna pull up on you.

ESPN Radio Host
It's time to go around the National Football League no Huddle.
Matt Jones
I'll call the place from the line. Defense will never know what hit them.
ESPN Radio Host
This is the no huddle Brown Richmond 96 double.
Herm Edwards
All right, so this is the game we like to play where we try to get Myron to basically tell us why we should watch some of the game that don't seem very entertaining. Now, Myron, we're running a little behind today, so we gotta do this quick. We got five games. You got 20 seconds to make your case on each of these games, why they're worthy of our listeners. Times. Are you ready?
Matt Jones
Yes, I'm ready.
Herm Edwards
All right, let's get started. What's up? First, let's do some no Huddle Rams.
ESPN Radio Host
At Patriots.
Matt Jones
They got the game show music or. No, no, not this week. Okay, you want to pick the Rams because, yes, they're down, tied for last place in the division NFC west, but guess what? They had a worse record last year and they still came back to make a run to the playoffs. So this might be the start of another miraculous playoff run for the Rams. So that's why you want to pay attention today. Also, Drake May might be the second or third best quarterback in this game, getting better.
Herm Edwards
Okay, that was better. You still didn't totally sell me on the matchup, but I like the idea. I think on that one I'm focusing. Drake May versus old Matthew Stafford, but I have to say, much better than what we've seen from you in recent. In recent weeks. What's next?
ESPN Radio Host
Okay, Browns at Saints.
Matt Jones
Hard to sell this one. Obviously the Browns and just how bad they've been. But you're going to watch this because which coach is going to survive this season? Kevin Stefanski was once the golden boy in the NFL. Now maybe he's not the Cleveland Browns coach next year if things continue this way, but someone else will pick him up. And Dennis Allen, obviously, and all the struggles that were happening with the New Orleans Saints. So I think that, to me, is why Dennis Allen actually was fired. Did I just mess that up? Dennis Allen was already fired. So I messed that up. I messed that up completely.
Herm Edwards
Not great, but here's what.
Matt Jones
I messed that up completely.
Herm Edwards
Yeah, you fired him. You kind of fired him a couple.
Matt Jones
Weeks ago after 2 and 7.
Herm Edwards
I would have said just basically the. This is the battle of Jameis Winston, right? James play up against his old team. Chance to show them where they see you. Just, you gotta look.
Matt Jones
That's a good one.
Herm Edwards
Look and say, put these two together. Where am I going?
Matt Jones
It's okay, Myron. It's your first time doing this. No, I messed up. I got big picture once I started talking. You notice once I start talking, I.
Herm Edwards
Can'T go talk about Dennis Allen. Nobody knows who.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I messed that up.
Herm Edwards
That's not what's next.
Matt Jones
I messed that up.
ESPN Radio Host
Cold said Jets.
Matt Jones
I know everybody's wondering, Anthony Richardson, he's done, right? His career is over. He got benched a couple weeks ago. But guess what? Anthony Richardson is back as the starting quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts against a Jets team that's been a mess all year. But maybe Anthony Richardson proves that. You know what? They made a mistake by sending him a couple weeks ago and he earns the job for the rest of the year. That's why you want to watch this game. Redemption is on the line.
Herm Edwards
Okay. Better again. I'm seeing improvement. I. This is a little bit like watching Drake May. You're not winning games, but I'm seeing improvement. For me, I think I would have done this and done like, who's a bigger disappointment, Aaron Rodgers or Anthony Richardson? Whoever loses this game, I think takes the lead in the disappointment scale for the year. But nevertheless, I would give you a solid B on that one. And that's much better than where we've been in a lot of the year, the rest of the year. So I like so far what we're doing. All right, what's next?
ESPN Radio Host
Vikings at Titans.
Matt Jones
You want to watch Vikings at Titans because you don't want to be late when you realize that the Vikings are playing their way into a high seat in the playoff picture. They might not lose another game until they have to go to Detroit on January 5th. And this is going to start that run for them. The Titans are done, but the Minnesota Vikings, they've been forgotten, but they might be very high in that playoff picture by the end of the year. Still a Super bowl contender. Watch them continue that path today.
Herm Edwards
Yeah, I mean, I.
Matt Jones
What do you want? What did you want? I mean, it's the Titans. I don't know what to say about the Titans.
Herm Edwards
You're basically giving up on the Titans there. You're only selling the vibe.
Matt Jones
Everyone has given up on the Titans, though. The Titans have given up on the Titans. At this point, that's the problem.
Herm Edwards
I think what I would do is I would say, you know, Sam Darnold started out at one point we thought could be the mvp. Now he's got to actually right the ship and just get him in the playoffs, period. Forget about the mvp. If Darnold wants to resurrect his career, these next few games are the ones to do it.
Matt Jones
I mean, did you want to do the game because it's some. It seems like every week maybe you want to do.
Herm Edwards
No, I'm trying to teach you. You should consider this, like, I was better mentor.
Matt Jones
I thought I was better though situation. But I mean, but the praise always stops. Like, it's not. It's not always like, ye. Yeah, it's still a C, but it's a better C. The last week I just.
Herm Edwards
B minus on that one. B minus.
Matt Jones
Okay, I'll take.
Herm Edwards
Nevertheless, I will say it's been a much better effort. If you finish strong, I'll consider giving you a passing grade. What's next?
ESPN Radio Host
Raiders at Dolphins.
Matt Jones
You want to watch the Raiders and Dolphins because the Raiders have been a disaster. And if you want to know where Shador Sanders may end up, that's certainly going to be a candidate. But you're watching this for the Miami Dolphins, who have a very favorable schedule and could become the fourth three and six team in super bowl era to get into the playoffs. They have a chance to do it and they got to win today to make that happen.
Herm Edwards
All right, I'll dog.
Matt Jones
Okay, I'll take it.
Herm Edwards
I'll pause on that.
Matt Jones
Thank you.
Herm Edwards
You gave me a reason with the Shadow Sanders thing, and your point about the Dolphins is valid.
Matt Jones
All right.
Herm Edwards
I'll tell you what. That look, you're like my student who came into the final exam kind of struggling but then gave me a good effort. And I go, you know what? I'm going to give you a gentleman's B plus for this semester. There we go.
Matt Jones
I appreciate that. Appreciate that Dennis Allen thing. But yeah, once I start talking, I can't stop.
Herm Edwards
If you haven't, I'm seeing improvement. Really? Is that true? Now, coming up next, the 49ers are defending NFC champs. But like a lot of people who've made the super bowl and lost, they might not even make the playoffs. We'll deal with them next here on ESPN Radio.
Matt Jones
Hey, it's your resident super bowl champ, Chris Canny coming up Monday. Everyone knows I'm one of CJ Stroud's biggest fans, but I'll tell you why I lost to the Cowboys will have me panicking. It's unsportsmanlike. 6am Eastern right here on ESPN radio, ESPN2 and ESPN.
Myron Metcalf
You.

Podcast Summary: Sunday Mornings with Matt and Myron – Hour 2: "Milk was a Bad Choice"
Release Date: November 17, 2024
Hosts: Matt Jones and Myron Medcalf
Duration: Approximately 45 minutes
In the second hour of "Sunday Mornings with Matt and Myron," listeners are treated to a lively blend of lighthearted banter and in-depth sports analysis. Hosted by ESPN Radio's Myron Medcalf and Matt Jones, this episode delves into a spirited debate about milk consumption among adults, followed by comprehensive discussions on current NFL matchups and player performances.
The episode kicks off with Matt Jones recalling his eagerness to dive into football discussions. However, the conversation takes an unexpected turn when the hosts address a controversial comment made by Matt regarding milk consumption.
Herm Edwards ignites the debate by asserting, "All adults should drink two glasses of milk a day. The fact that you don't drink them says a lot about the way you look at the world" (02:26). He further humorously labels adults who prefer almond milk over dairy as "psychopaths," citing portrayals of such characters in popular media.
As the debate unfolds, several callers share their perspectives:
Caller Bob (North Carolina), a urologist, challenges Herm's stance: "Milk is really not good for you after the age of about 5. Most people don't drink 2% if they drink milk as adults are drinking whole milk, which is so bad for you, it's ridiculous" (04:12).
Caller Randy (Military Veteran) counters with his experience: "In the military, milk is a staple across meals. It's available as an option for lunch and dinner" (07:49), highlighting that milk intake in structured environments doesn't equate to psychopathology.
Caller Vicky (Florida) simply states her preference: "I like milk" (10:17), prompting Herm to question the reliability of online sources versus expert opinions.
Caller Chris (Washington), referencing his nutritionist wife, emphasizes the diversity of medical opinions: "It depends on who doctors y'all talking to. Group of doctors that agree. A doctor's agree on one thing and then they'll disagree on the exact same thing later" (12:18).
Caller Mike (Texas) veers into philosophical musings about society's prolonged infancy: "We're still eating milk because we think like babies. That’s why we have a society of babies" (20:09), blending humor with critique of modern dietary habits.
Throughout the segment, Herm Edwards remains steadfast in his humorous condemnation of adult milk drinkers, while Matt Jones and Myron Medcalf navigate the callers' varied opinions with a mix of skepticism and amusement.
Notable Quote:
Herm Edwards (02:56): "When you watch movies or television shows about psychopaths, the one consistent trait they have is they drink milk."
After wrapping up the milk debate, the podcast seamlessly transitions into football, maintaining the dynamic rapport between the hosts.
The latter half of the episode is dedicated to analyzing crucial NFL games and player performances. Matt and Myron provide insightful commentary, predictions, and critiques on various teams and matchups.
A focal point is the upcoming game between the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Detroit Lions. Matt expresses confidence in the Lions' potential to continue their strong season:
Matt Jones (05:03): "...the Lions last week, man, if you doubted them, then how they play in a really difficult game. I think they made a lot of believers out of their outcome last week."
He critiques the Jaguars' quarterback, Trevor Lawrence, labeling him as one of the worst in terms of overpayment and underperformance.
Attention shifts to quarterback performances:
Caleb Williams is assessed for his decision-making and development, with Matt questioning his ceiling and suggesting the need for better offensive support:
Matt Jones (27:05): "...he's holding onto the ball too long. He's been sacked, what, 38 times already? You got to get the ball out of his hand..."
Jared Goff faces criticism for throwing five interceptions, which Matt finds perplexing given his previous performance metrics.
Herm Edwards highlights the intense rivalry between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Baltimore Ravens, emphasizing the strategic playstyles and historical competitiveness:
Herm Edwards (30:10): "This is a little bit of the football history... two teams that understand that it's going to go through them to represent maybe the AFC along with the Chiefs."
The hosts also touch upon:
Bengals vs. Chargers: Predicting Chargers' defensive strength as a key factor.
Vikings vs. Titans: Discussing the Vikings' potential playoff surge versus the Titans' struggles.
Raiders vs. Dolphins: Highlighting Miami Dolphins' favorable schedule and potential playoff aspirations.
Notable Quotes:
Myron Metcalf (25:57): "They understand that more games are lost in one and they're going to make a mistake. The opponent's going to make a mistake somewhere along the line."
Herm Edwards (36:23): "Were you giving a warning to all the students at Texas... Be a gentleman. Because if not, I'm gonna pull up on you."
The episode concludes with a blend of humor and anticipation for upcoming games. The hosts reiterate their commitment to providing in-depth football coverage while maintaining their trademark playful interactions. Listeners are left with a clear understanding of the key NFL narratives to follow, wrapped in the engaging chemistry between Matt Jones and Myron Medcalf.
This episode masterfully balances entertaining debates with professional sports analysis, making it a must-listen for fans seeking both humor and insight in the realm of sports.
