Matt Schick, Myron Metcalf here on Sunday morning on ESPN Radio. Thrilled to be with you. Used to host this show many, many years ago. Pre Covid and during COVID you and I, we were pegged as the show like, look, if there's a show with a pairing that could get through a sports season with no sports, with no sports to talk about, I mean we did that every single Sunday. And I think we won multiple Marconis. I can't recall, but I think, Myron, we did win many an award.
Myron Metcalf
They didn't give them to us. But if we did win them. But I remember some of those, you know, five hour pandemic radio shows, I mean those were, I mean if you could talk for five hours about anything, I think, you know, you should pat yourself on the back. But we did a couple of those long all day shows, man, that were not easy without sports.
Matt Schick
We have sports today, thank God. There are many sports. We've got the final day of the regular season in the NBA and we have the final round of the Masters. It is Masters Sunday and It is Bryson DeChambeau and Rory McIlroy. We've been asking you at 888, say ESPN 888-729-3776. You can only pick one Rory or Bryson. Who are you polling for? Who do you want to see win this? Because I think if you asked this question three or four years ago, it's a very easy answer. Give me Rory all day long. But the career arc for Bryson DeChambeau who went from this 200 pound, skinny beret wearing golfer, whatever those things are called, and you know, just quirky, the scientist, you know, he's studying the game and just he was an annoying golfer. And then he goes to live. And before he went to live, he bulked up, right? He changed his body, morphed his body into this hulking golfer who could drive the ball 350 yards at the drop of a hat. He goes to live and he's playing in these majors and he's won over the crowd. I don't know how he's done it. He's done some TikToks. He's been doing the hitting the ball over his house, you know, and trying to sink shots. And he's done that a few times. He's golf with the president and done some of these viral videos as well. His arc from villain to gosh, I kind of like this guy has been remarkable and does cause you, as a golf fan or as a casual fan to go, I don't know who I want to win.
Myron Metcalf
Well, I think you did say something earlier that makes sense to me, Matt. I mean, he is kind of like the YouTube generation's favorite golfer, right? Because he is very active. And again, I think part of it is, and I think we see this in other sports in terms of how we view athletes today versus even 10 years ago. The ones who have leaned into social media, the ones who have offered us an insight into their lives. Although that also opens them up to more criticism, right? Because we see so much of who they are outside of their sport. It also makes people go, wow, this is a real person. And I think Rory is still a part of that old school Tiger woods era where it's like, we don't know anything about Tiger woods still. You know, guys who are so private about everything that they do that you really only see them on the golf course. Whereas I think Bryson has been a guy who said, no, I'm gonna be a regular person. And I think that certainly appealed to a lot of people.
Matt Schick
And you know, ESPN showing the video right now, he's at the course, he's signing autographs or that could be old video, but they're showing him signing autographs with the kids. He stayed at the course last night till nearly 8:30, as Bryson has said. According to Jeff Darlington, he was testing out drivers. We're testing out drivers the night before the final round of the Masters. But three straight rounds in the 60s for Bryson and for Rory, it's his 11th attempt to win the career Grand Slam. And last night before they left Augusta, they were each asked about their plans for the night. And you think about how different these golfers are. What are your plans going to be going into tonight and tomorrow? Here was Rory. I'll have some dinner, maybe try to make it through the second episode of the third season of. Bridgerton fell asleep during episode one last night. And that's it. Just, yeah, sort of put the phone away, don't look at it, and try not to look at it. Until tomorrow night. Okay. No phone. Bridgerton. And sleep is basically what's going to have there. What was going to happen there for Rory?
Myron Metcalf
Is Rory on the Senior PGA Tour or what does he. I thought Rory was 35, not 65. My goodness.
Matt Schick
Bridgerton.
Myron Metcalf
Have a cup of tea as well.
Matt Schick
Bridgerton. A Regency romance. American alternative history. Regency romance television series on Netflix.
Myron Metcalf
And it's about the queen. Right? Isn't that. Isn't that what that. Is that like something about the queens. Queen of England or something like that?
Matt Schick
I'd like to hear you explain this more and go down this road.
Myron Metcalf
No, I thought this was a little bit. It wasn't like the Queen of England's, which. Was there another king at some point?
Matt Schick
George iii? Was it George iii? Queen Charlotte?
Myron Metcalf
Is there another king or is that the only king she's ever. I don't remember. Maybe I'm making this up, but might be making the whole thing with the queen. I think it is.
Matt Schick
888, say ESPN. Tell us about Bridgerton. Let Bryson DeChambeau tell you about his plans going into the final round. For me, it's going to be practicing a little bit before it gets dark. Eating, looking at my phone. I don't have a problem with that. And just getting treatment on my body. Relaxing as much as possible. Watching a movie probably tonight. Fun movie. I don't know what's tonight? Oh, it'll probably be a James Bond movie or something like that. So that'll be fun. I love James Bond movies. After that, tomorrow morning I'll probably go to bed late and get up around like 10, 10:30 and see how the course is playing and go from there. Okay, so we've got Bridgerton versus Bond. James Bond. He did say he watches the Pierce Brosnan ones. He does like that. Would you characterize that as fun? I thought he was going to say, I'm going to watch Airplane or maybe some Naked Gun.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah, I don't know which. Fun James Bond. Maybe it's a different series he's talking about, but he also sounded like versus Rory, sounding like he was 65. Bryson sounds like a teenager. He's like, I'm gonna get something to eat, look at my phone, you know, go to Instagram. And then he. Wait a minute. He's getting up at 10:30, 11. Like, aren't they teeing off at like, noon? Is he gonna be at the practice range at like, noon?
Matt Schick
No, I think 2:30. I think we're teeing off at around 2:30.
Myron Metcalf
But still today, I bet if you went to like, Rory. I bet rory' up by 6am or something like that. You know, like Most golfers say 6, 7am he's getting up at 10:30, 11:00.
Matt Schick
Bryson's going on the back patio and his, you know, in his skivvies with a cup of coffee, some avocado toast, and just looking out at the horizon.
Myron Metcalf
Uber sitting outside for 30 minutes, calling them, trying to figure out like, are you, you coming or not? Man, we gotta get to the course.
Matt Schick
Sorry. Oh, yeah, it is noon. I guess we should be headed. Let's get to Jim in Chicago. 888, say ESPN 888-729-3776. Go ahead, Jim. Hi, guys. You know, when they say it comes down to putting, I think the driver and how you control it because they're going to go, man, oh, man, oh. And if you, you knock it 50ft out of bounds because you're trying to outdo somebody that could, that could spell big trouble. And what are you going to do on the next hole? You're going to give it another go. I'm Ferrari, by the way. Always have been. Thanks, Jim. It's interesting you say that because Andy North, ESPN golf analyst, had this to say last night on the final pairing of McIlroy and DeChambeau. I think this one on one is going to be an awful lot of fun. I think it's going to be really important for these two guys. Look at Rory. He looks like he's absolutely under control. He's calm. He needs to keep that. Bryson is not that. He's up all over the place. You look at the driving distance, they're one and two in driving distance. I think it's going to be really important for them to focus on just trying to play their game and not get caught up and trying to out drive the other guy. Maybe getting the honors early in the round and keeping it would be really important. And I think overall, they're both putting the ball incredibly well. They both had 25 putts on Saturday. Who can get out there and make sure they don't make a mistake with the putter? I think is going to be the winner. The final, the final pairing could not be more compelling than it is. You could even throw in Scheffler into this and it wouldn't be as compelling. These two golfers had to be there today to make it what it is.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah. And I think again, how often do we even care about the personalities of golfers? Like, we don't. We just kind of say, okay, this is a skill based sport more than any other sport. That's what we pay attention to. But part of the drama today, Matt, is going to be the energy of Bryson with the calm of Rory, Rory trying to keep it together, stay composed. And Bryson's over here. High five. And some dude you know around the green like it's so different. And with Roy's history, just the emotion or lack thereof between the two is going to be such an important part of the drama.
Matt Schick
Matt schick, Myron Metcalf Sunday morning on ESPN Radio. 8-88- say ESPN 888-729-3776. Your takes on the Masters, who you're rooting for, who you want to see win. We also have a take on the Naked Gun, which we have to get to from one of our callers. It's Sunday morning presenting Progressive Insurance. Sunday morning on ESPN Radio.

Taxact knows you probably don't need help filing taxes, but if you get stuck, we have live experts you can talk to. And who knows, you could hit it off and become long term tax friends. Staying up late at night talking about deductions, refunds, personal exemptions. Heck, you could even fall in love and create a little dependent of your own one day. Or they could just answer your filing questions. Tax act let's get them over with. Every idea starts with a problem. Warby Parker's was glasses are too expensive. So they set out to change that. Myron Metcalf
Matt and Myron. The podcast.
Matt Schick
Well done, Mikey C. You don't have to tell me why you're playing this song. It's Sunday morning on ESPN Radio. The ESPN app Sunday morning is presented by Progressive Insurance. We were talking about because Bryson DeChambeau, or as Jeff Darlington would call him, DeChambeau. I really don't know how to figure that out. We got to get to the bottom of it. But Bryson said last night that he was going to get ready for the master. He's going to look at his phone at home, his place of residence. He's going to get to bed, but before that he's going to watch something fun. Fun.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah.
Matt Schick
And he said, and what's going to be it's going to be. Oh, yeah, I'm going to watch a James Bond flick. You know, Pierce Brosnan, like. Okay, I don't know how you define, like, fun. Fun, like action flick. Okay. That's different than fun. Fun to me is, hey, let's. Let's loosen up a little bit. And I mentioned the Naked Gun.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah.
Matt Schick
Dave in Ohio, go for it. Yeah. Hey, guys.
Myron Metcalf
Hey.
Matt Schick
Yes. They got the new Frank Drebin coming out this year. Hello. Yeah, go ahead.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah.
Matt Schick
And. Yeah. And Liam Neeson is the new Frank Drebben. Okay, I'm looking at that right now. You're 100% correct. Liam Neeson is gonna be the new.
Myron Metcalf
Have any new movies? Do you have any original ideas anymore?
Matt Schick
Redoing everything. Oh, my goodness. They had the Naked gun. Naked gun two and a half. Naked gun 33 and a third. And. And now we're going to have this with Liam Neeson coming out. This.
Myron Metcalf
You can't watch any of these movies anymore, man.
Matt Schick
You can't. You can't. You can't.
Myron Metcalf
You can't watch any. Every movie you watched as a kid. You cannot show your kids. That's what I've learned.
Matt Schick
I mean, we were watching last night, and look, and I hate to say this, I like to think of myself as an upstanding adult, but we were. Last night, my wife and I were like, okay, let's watch something fun. And it was not James Bond. James Bond was not something that came to mind. We were like, Gladiator 2. No, we're gonna do something fun. And so I brought up the Naked Gun. And my wife says, I haven't seen that in ages. That's. Oh, I remember that being hilarious. I'm like, yeah, me too. So we start watching it with four kids, ages 9 to 14. And there. There are some seats. You're like, oh, yeah, this is why they call it naked. This is like. My kids were like, oh, it's the Naked Gun. I didn't think you could. We could watch anything with that word in it. Like, let's give it a shot. Poor parenting 101. Last night, we had to fast forward a couple times. We had to skip over a few beats. There are some movies that cannot be shown today that you just can't show.
Myron Metcalf
I can't show my kids any Eddie Murphy movies. You know, it's like a whole generation just lost to them, you know, it's like, I want to show my childhood. And they're like, we can't watch this. You know, it's amazing.
Matt Schick
Any. Any. Any Movie where OJ Dies seven times in the movie. It's really doesn't hold up here in 2025.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah.
Matt Schick
Let's get back to golf, shall we? MATT In Indy 888, say ESPN 888-7293776. Go ahead, Matt. Hey, what's up, fellas?
Myron Metcalf
Hey.
Matt Schick
Three quick uses on Bryson. His whole situation changed when he got that super like 200 million dollar bag from Lynn. So first, somehow it made him cool. Money did change him. But two, it changed his perspective on golf. Right? He's not playing to win for a living now. He's playing because he wants to just be there and win. And getting all that money literally turned him to a mad scientist. Like, look at all the stuff that he's doing with his clubs and everything. The dude's insane and he's just playing straight because he wants to win. Thanks, boys. Have a good day. The move to live and the bag that some of these guys got, it has gone in different ways for some. Dustin Johnson has fallen off the face of the earth when it comes to the sport of golf. Bryson DeChambeau, it's gone the other way where the money has changed him to a point where he, he gets to like you would hope when you go out to play golf, you and I, if we go out to play golf, we get to enjoy it. One of these guys, it's not enjoyable because it's your job, it's your livelihood. You've got to make it. Not that Bryson DeChambeau is pinching pennies, but it becomes work. Well, once you secure that money, it allows you to focus on other things, like growing your personality, like YouTube, like lightening up a little bit, like, hey, let me reach out to the fans. And I think also he understood going to live, he was going to have to overcorrect a little bit because of the perception of what that was. We saw it with John Rahm, we've seen it with others, and Bryson has corrected it to the point where for many, it's a toss up today, for many in Augusta, it's going to be whoever wins, wins. And we're going to cheer emphatically for both of these guys when they hit great shots.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah, no, no, Will. But I think, you know, you mentioned part of the stuff that I think has made some people support Bryson in that Rory was the virtuous one, right? Him and Tiger, they were standing up for something that was bigger than sports with PGA versus Live. Now, mind you, since then, the NBA, NFL, like all these other leagues have Said, we'll take Saudi money. But at the time, it was positioned as this battle of morality. And Rory was saying, this is where we have to draw the line. And a bunch of these guys made hundreds of millions of dollars. I think Bryson DeChambeau got $125 million, reportedly to go to the live. And the conversation then was, their careers are over, their legacies are tarnished, and yet here he is in the Masters with a chance to continue to extend his legacy. So the LIV guys look like they made the right gamble, and guys like Rory look like they just wasted an opportunity to make a ton of money because they were standing up for whatever sense of morality they believe the PGA to represent it. And I think that has hurt Rory over the last couple of years. The way that PJ is, you know, essentially caved to what the Saudi wants, and they're negotiating. It doesn't look like he stood on what he was saying all those years about the PGA not taking this Saudi money. Whereas Bryson was a guy that said, listen, I'm playing golf. I don't care about any of that stuff. Give me the cash. And I think that's been a part of his appeal. He looks like a guy who was honest, whereas I think Rory and some of those other guys on the PGA Tour looked like maybe, I don't say fraudulent, but they were standing up for something that didn't last over time.
Matt Schick
The former CEO and head of liv, Greg Norman, before he was replaced in January. Greg Norman, who goes down as, you know, one of the biggest. I hate to use the word chokes in the history of golf, but it was back in 1996. How about this? This is the first time the Masters final pairing on Sunday had two players who were both multiple major winners at that time since 1996. Greg Norman and Nick Valdo. We all know what happened there. That Stat courtesy of @Justin Ray Golf on X. Brian in North Carolina. Go ahead, Brian. Hey, guys. Happy Sunday morning to you. Happy Sunday. Two things on Frank Drevin, a bunch of bombs in the air, underrated line from the national anthem, and then him calling balls and strikes. What a moment. What a moment in history. I mean, just absolutely outstanding. It's great. It said here you wanted to talk about the Masters, but I'm good with just the naked gun take.
Myron Metcalf
You just want to talk about naked.
Matt Schick
Good. And you're right. I have a vivid memory watching that as a kid. And there's a scene that happens where I'm like, I shouldn't be watching this. This is not okay, but we'll leave that for another time. Watching DeChambeau on that breaking 50 is really what turned the tide for me with him. I mean, you get to see his personality and the way he has flipped the script on this thing. It's gonna be hard not to pull for him on Sunday, especially when he's the guy that will stare at the crowd and get in Rory's head. I think DeChambeau's got it, and I'm not just saying that because I got a few bucks on him. Thank you for the Enrico Palazzo balls and strikes reference there, which is a great naked gun reference. The engagement with crowds and fans cannot be overstated with being able to see your eyes, see you smile, see you enjoy what you're doing. You know, if someone tells you a joke, you laugh. You know, they want to see the response. And Bryson has done a marvelous job at that. And I think being, seeing that personality helps you to engage as a fan, helps you to connect with your athletes and helps you to root for them.
Myron Metcalf
And we haven't had that since Tiger. I mean, we just haven't seen a lot of that. And Rory is the opposite. So buttoned up, it's like he's trying to hold in all the emotion.
Matt Schick
Sunday morning on ESPN Radio. Sunday morning is presented by Progressive Insurance. More of your calls. Eight, eight, eight, say ESPN 888-7272-93776. Coming up, one story this week that could shake up the entire first round of the NFL draft. That and more coming up next on ESPN Radio.

Sunday morning on ESPN radio. Matt Schick, Myron Metcalf, Great to be working with my buddy Myron again. One of the great things I love about Myron is his Twitter game. Myron, his tweets. Your tweets about. You throw out gifs of Magic Johnson, which I think are terrific. It's just the him shaking his head. No, that's. That's your game and I think it's great. You probably do that once, once every couple of weeks, right?
Myron Metcalf
Yep.
Matt Schick
Pretty fair.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah. Yeah, definitely. It's all I got. I mean, he's changed my life. That Jeff has changed my life.
Matt Schick
And it's changed your game. You're up to 42,000 Twitter followers. You had a tweet yesterday about Nico and the Tennessee situation, which we'll get into later. Someone responded. Myron Metcalf's takes are almost always guaranteed. They almost always guarantee a good laugh. You weren't going to take that sitting down.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah.
Matt Schick
You, quote, tweeted it kind of like the Cubs for the last decade. And I thought, well, that's kind of weird. Then I click on the handle of the person who tweeted at you. He has gocubs go. That's an art form, Myron, of reading someone's hate tweet and then you click on their profile and say, where can I poke the needle here? Let's do it.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah, I mean, I'm not taking that from a Cubs fan. You know what I mean? I'll take that from a lot of people, but not, not a Cubs fan. You know, you all aren't in that position to really, you know, make fun of anybody at this point.
Matt Schick
So, like, what are you? Oh, you're Cubs. Okay, let's just end this fight right here.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah.
Matt Schick
And that's what you did. I'm not taking that on the Twitterverse. Time for some Sunday headlines. Extra, extra.
Myron Metcalf
Read all about it. Read all about it. The Sunday headlines.
Matt Schick
Sunday headlines. Here we go. All right, Matt. Oh, sorry. Sorry, Evan. I'm so new at this. I haven't done this show in so long, I forgot I was supposed to toss to you. Evan Wilder, ladies and gentlemen. Yes. Let's go. Let's go. Thank you. Derek Carr's 2025 season is in jeopardy. He has a shoulder injury that may require surgery. I thought this was interesting. Right after that happened, Lewis Riddick tweeted that 9th pick going to be all kinds of interesting, which was quote, quote tweeted by Coach prime with the eyeball emoji. So is the 9th pick the floor for Shedeur Sanders in this draft?
Myron Metcalf
Myron feels that way, you know, I mean, I think He's a top 10 pick. He will be in this draft. I don't think it's reasonably good draft. He would be, but it feels like things are putting him in a good spot where he's going to have a destination one way or another in the top 10.
Matt Schick
It does feel like, I don't know if we're calling it the floor or the ceiling. I think that's as high as he can go and it could be as. It could be as low as he can go. But yeah, it does. It does feel like when that news comes out, you are setting the stage. I mean, you look at the rest of these picks, you look at the rest of the top 10, we know Cam Ward's going one. We know Travis Hunter's going to. Who else has taken a quarterback? Yeah, Raiders aren't, Jets aren't, Panthers likely aren't. So yeah, Shador Saints, let's go. It's Master Sunday. So let's talk Texas A and M baseball. This will make sense in a second. The Aggies unveiled their new home run celebration earlier this week against South Carolina. The whoever hits a home run gets a green jacket when they get back to the dugout. Then Saturday, the Aggies were trailing by 10 runs at one point and down five heading to the bottom of the ninth when Hayden shot, hit a grand slam to pull within one. And then Kaden Kent did this on the SEC Network. Kaden can't.
Myron Metcalf
Did the Aggies just do it. They come all the way back. Two ninth inning grand slams.
Matt Schick
Unbelievable.
Myron Metcalf
They wave the magic wa and they sweep away the Gamecocks.
Matt Schick
Thoughts on the A and M Celebration and the comeback. Well, first of all, the play by play guy, give him a lozenge. That was amazing. That's a great call. You, you think when you see the first grand slam, it's like, all right, we can, we can maximize our call here. We're not going to see another one. Two grand slams in one inning in the night. The first team to do that Division 1 the last 20 years, Kaden Kent, son of Jeff Kent, who's pretty stoic when he watches his son play. I would imagine he was a little elated there. Love the celebration. Love the green jacket celebration. And much like that, when you wear the green jacket, when you get a home run like that, Kaden Kent should get, I don't know, free admission to bluebell park for the rest of life. Like, I don't know what that looks like, but there's got to be some equivalent for donning the green jacket, especially in that moment.
Myron Metcalf
I wouldn't take it off. I'm wearing it to every game. I'm actually batting with the green jacket on. Next time, I'm going all the way with it. Like, you know what I mean? That to me is, should be the next level. But what I do appreciate about college baseball is it's still fun and it should be. And I wish. It feels like college football has become a little stale, you know, I mean, everything's so serious now, the nil stuff. But I love that college baseball still really knows how to enjoy a moment like that.
Matt Schick
And how about this? You know they have those dugout celebrations. They had to move those to the dugout, right? You can't do it on the field anymore in college baseball. MLB starting to do that. We saw the Angels with the fireman hat celebration for home runs as well. It's trying to be more like the college game.
Myron Metcalf
I like it.
Matt Schick
It does remind me this whole thing that Fernando Tatis once hit two grand slams in the same inning. That might be the most amazing baseball accomplishment ever. Gosh. Anyway, yeah. Luka Doncic returned to Dallas this week. He dropped 45 in an emotional return. And then Jason Kidd had something interesting to say. Take a listen.
Myron Metcalf
This is a business. It happens, right? Trades happen. This won't be the last trade. Some are comparing it to Babe Ruth, which is kind of cool. But, like, when you look at just the business of sports, change happens. But when change happens, it's the ones who can carry on and keep moving forward. Those are the special people, right? Fans are going to be fans. They have a right to boo. They have a Right. To cheer. Hope is still in that locker room. AD is not a bad player. I think he's top 75, if I recall, has won at every level. There's different opinions of how things were handled. That's always going to be a conversation. But when you see those guys in that uniform with the Mavericks, those guys play hard and they play together, and they're trying to find a way to win. And so there's hope. There's still hope, and there will be hope 10 years from now because the league will continue to go. That train doesn't stop for anybody. And so just understanding that the fans will come to grips with this.
Matt Schick
Will Dallas Maverick fans ever come to grips with the fact that they traded luka doncic at 25?
Myron Metcalf
Myron, first off, was it just him in the room? Like, it sounds like he's talking to a wall. Like, every time I hear somebody with the Mavericks talk, it sounds like they paid $100,000 over market price and realized they were in a bad neighborhood. You know what I mean? The realtor didn't tell him about that.
Matt Schick
Wait a minute.
Myron Metcalf
Hold on a second. Did you hear those gunshots? Right? That's how they act every time they're asked about the trade. And then I want to know what he really knows about Babe R. He said it's kind of cool. Does he think the Titanic was kind of cool? You know, I mean, like, what does he think is cool? I want to know Jason Kidd's list of what he thinks is kind of cool. And no, Mavericks fans will never get over this because they traded a generational talent. It did not get one at the same stage in return because there's only one Luca. And mind you, and I think people need to remember this, too, Matt, this is a fan base that already had its heart broken when they watched Jalen Brunson go to the Knicks and become a superstar. And now it's happening again. They'll never get over this.
Matt Schick
I do like the notion of, gosh, they're comparing this to the Hindenburg. That's kind of cool. Like, no. Like, that's not cool at all.
Myron Metcalf
That thing was sailing, wasn't it? At one point, it was soaring.
Matt Schick
Wasn't that awesome? When the Colts traded Elway to the Broncos? That was kind of cool. No, not. Not really. Like, let's. Here's 100 grand.
Myron Metcalf
Like the Great Depression, you know, everything got better.
Matt Schick
Here's 100 grand. Why don't you take the best baseball player ever to play, arguably, Babe Ruth? Not what you want. And, yes, There is still hope. He's wearing a Lakers jersey. That's the biggest problem here, Evan. That's the biggest problem. Yeah, speaking. At least he was wearing a jersey because LeBron.
Myron Metcalf
Oh, good transition.
Matt Schick
Showed up for warm ups.
Myron Metcalf
That was great.
Matt Schick
Was not wearing a shirt. And Isaiah Thomas took exception to it on NBA TV. I just totally, 100% object to this.
Myron Metcalf
And if I was the GM or coach, me too.
Matt Schick
I would never let one of my players walk out on the floor looking like this. I mean, we are a professional NBA league. We ain't, we ain't summer league. We ain't, we ain't, you know, at the ymca.
Myron Metcalf
Listen, I think coaches gotta go back to suits.
Matt Schick
Absa.
Myron Metcalf
I just mean absolutely. You know, I just, I just think college and pro.
Matt Schick
I just think the professionalism in our NBA league has diminished so much and, and I, I Look, I like LeBron, I'm a fan of his, so forth and so on. But to walk out on the floor before a game with no shirt on and shoot, I mean, come on, man, this. Where we at, what we doing? Where we at now? If you want to Adam Silver, if you want to find somebody, find that. Put a fine on that. First of all, I'd love to get Isaiah Thomas comments on Nico Emaliava opting out of playing for Tennessee and pay for play in college sports, but we're not getting that today. What do you guys think of isaiah going after LeBron for showing up without a shirt? It sounded like he was like channeling his inner sylvester at the end with suffering succotash. Like, fine that we are professionals. He would hate to see pregame NFL warmups in the cold where guys go out shirtless to psych themselves up. I wonder, is it professional as well? We are professionals. Those who are professionals, it professional to shake hands with the opposing team after you lose at an NBA playoff series. I wonder if that's a part of. Or do you walk out of the arena before, before the opportunity presents itself?
Myron Metcalf
Yeah, I mean, the messenger matters. Like anytime Isaiah Thomas says something, I'm like, do you remember when you clothesline Michael Jordan in midair and like nearly decapitated him? Do y'all remember that? I do think the professionalism thing, I get it, but it just has felt like Isaiah has just had kind of an ax to grind with the entire current generation of NBA players. But again, I don't know if Isaiah Thomas has ever searched himself in YouTube, but there's some unprofessional things that happened in the 80s and 90s. With the teams he was on.
Matt Schick
Reportedly, the next time Isaiah Thomas is watching the Lakers, LeBron James will come out just wearing boxer shorts. ESPN Radio is presented by Progressive Insurance. Myron Metcalf
Auditioning for he got game two. Sometimes though, right? It's like, you know, he's like the 40 year old in shape dad who wants everybody in the neighborhood to know he still has it, you know, like there's a little bit of that to him too, you know, I tell you.
Matt Schick
What, like I'll drive through the neighborhood and there'll be some 45 year old dad with his shirt off jogging him. Like in I'm equal parts jealous, you know, at the same time and disgusted. Like, yeah, I wish I could look like that, but put a shirt on, Jack.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah, talk about intermittent fasting and all this stuff they're doing to keep the weight off. Like, come on man, go get it.
Matt Schick
Yeah, I fast eight hours a day too. It's called sleeping. Sunday morning on ESPN Radio. Coming up next, was it professional to fire the winningest coach in franchise history with just three games left in the season? That's next Sunday morning. ESPN Radio.

Podcast the Denver Nuggets have fired head coach Michael Malone. This wasn't a decision that was taken lightly. In the world of professional sports, when winning and losing is your currency, winning can mask a lot of things. It feels rash. I don't See how this helps you win. Sunday morning on ESPN Radio, the ESPN app, SiriusXM Channel 80, Matchik, Myron Metcalf. It was one of the more shocking situations that we've seen in quite some time. Yeah, there's the Luca trade, there's a huge gap, and then there's others. This would file at the top of others as Mike Malone, the head coach of the Denver Nuggets, is not the head coach anymore. Fired just with three games left. GM Calvin Booth also let go with three games left. Brian Windhorst, ESPN NBA Insider, had this to say on get up as to why they did it. Now, he thought if the Nuggets would have some playoff success, that it would mask the issues. And I think he wanted to fire Michael Malone now when he basically could, because if they go into the playoffs and Jokic carries them, he didn't think it was the right direction for the team. He even referenced that he was considering this earlier in the year. And then the Nuggets had an eight game win streak and I think he was thinking about doing it earlier. Now, if your retort to that is, why do you take a coach who is the winningest coach in franchise history, who has been your coach for 10 years, the only coach Nikola Jokic has ever known, and why do you do this and not give him this playoffs? Now that is a fair question and I don't have a good answer for that. But it seems to me that the ownership didn't want Michael Malone to wiggle out of this by having a good postseason run. As Brian Windhorst. This reminds me, Myron, of college football firings and the timings of them. Where you go, okay, you're two and three right now and you've got three very winnable games coming up. Let's fire you now before you can go on a run, before you can make a bowl game, before you can kind of win back some fans here, because it's easier to fire you after these games than it would be if you go on a win streak. And if you want to fire him, then I suppose I get it that you, you want to make it known now. But three games to go, two games to go in the regular season, like that, that's one of those. If the locker room was that bad, wasn't it bad a month ago? Or did this just happen over the last week or two? It just feels like the Runway to have any playoff success was sort of tarnished here. Yeah.
Myron Metcalf
And it feels like there had already been a decision made. Right. Correct. Like they Wanted to get out in Frontier Point. I mean, the interesting thing, though, is in college football, this doesn't usually happen to guys who've won championships, though. I mean, the NBA, you know, people are saying they were so surprised. I'm never surprised the NBA fires everybody. Like, that's just kind of what the NBA does. But even the timing of it, though, is probably what's most startling for a team that not that long ago we were saying was one of the teams that maybe could dethrone OKC in the west and make another run, and now they're going into the playoffs in this situation. It's just bizarre, no matter what the reasons were behind it.
Matt Schick
When you have one of the best players in the NBA, if not the best in Nikola Jokic, you have to imagine that there was some advisement there. I mean, he might not be at LeBron's status, but you don't make a decision without letting LeBron know with management, whether it's a coaching change, whatever it is.
Myron Metcalf
What you think you do about Luca, Is that what you're.
Matt Schick
That's a curious. That's a curious.
Myron Metcalf
He said he did. He was just at dinner and all of a sudden someone sent him a random text.
Matt Schick
Who the heck.
Myron Metcalf
He saw it on Twitter.
Matt Schick
Who the heck knew? He saw it on the. On the ticker, on espn. But you wonder what the heads up was there. And you also wonder a. If he wanted that to happen and be what this means moving forward for Jokic. Because, you know, we've had these conversations about Giannis, too. It's all right. You've reached the peak. You've won the NBA championship. Is your window for that specific franchise closing? And if you certainly want to be too. You'd rather be too early than too late on it. And, you know, I don't want to get into the contract situation, all of that, but these players run the show and can demand whatever they want. Jokic doesn't strike me as someone who would do that, but it does bring to mind, okay, we're making changes here for a reason and trying to be proactive. And if you've lost the locker room or the locker room is a mess, that means Nikola Jokic wasn't very happy either.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah. And we're going to find out in a couple weeks if he's even unhappier. Right. Because I think if the Nuggets fall short, they've got some big issues. Obviously, you need a new coach. This OKC team is young. I mean, one of the youngest teams we've ever had in the NBA that was in a position to win a championship, maybe the youngest one seed ever. And then you got a Houston team right behind them. That's pretty young. Maybe they can add another piece or two. The Lakers, whether it's Luca and LeBron or whoever else they add, is going to be competitive. So if you're the Nuggets, you might be looking at this. If you're yogic and going, it's about to get harder, maybe for me. And I think Jokic is among that short list because we say players have power and they do. But Y is on that short list where if he in a month says, listen, man, I don't want to be here anymore, there's nothing the Nuggets will be able to do about it. And every team in the league would call them and say, what would it take? So he is in this very favorable spot to dictate his future. If in fact he's not happy about what happens next with the Denver Nuggets.
Matt Schick
It just feels like, I mean, he's going to have a $200 million contract extension that he can sign. It's hard to believe you'd walk away from that. But to the point, you know, you think about what, what Jokic and what he's been able to do and the performances he's been able to string together. How about the fact you were talking about this during the break? He's averaging. He's going to average a triple double for this season. The third player in NBA history to pull off such a feat for his size. Like, we're talking Oscar Robertson, we're talking Russell Westbrook and Nikola Jokic. Yeah, that's. That stat is probably one of the more remarkable stats. When Russell Westbrook did it, you're like, okay, that's amazing. But a guy like Jokic, Myron, one of the best ever do it.
Myron Metcalf
He's the most skilled big man we've ever had in the NBA. Most skilled big man in NBA history. There's only two guys I take over him. Prime Tim Duncan, Prime Shaq. Jokic is right there. I mean, he's an all time great and I don't know that we give him the credit for that.
Matt Schick
By the way, LeBron LeBron James saw his points per game of 25 plus points per game streak in NBA history. He did it for 20 straight seasons. It ends at 24.4 points per game in year 22. Remarkable. Do you expect the worst when it comes to Rory today? Next.

Release Date: April 13, 2025
Hosts: Matt Schick and Myron Metcalf (ESPN Radio)
The episode kicks off with Matt Schick reminiscing about the show's endurance during the COVID-19 pandemic. He highlights their ability to navigate seasons with limited sports content, joking about potential awards and the challenges of hosting lengthy shows without live sports.
Matt Schick [00:33]:
"Used to host this show many, many years ago. Pre-Covid and during COVID you and I, we were pegged as the show like, look, if there's a show with a pairing that could get through a sports season with no sports, we did that every single Sunday."
Myron Metcalf [01:06]:
"We did a couple of those long all-day shows, man, that were not easy without sports."
The primary focus of the episode centers on the final day of the Masters, featuring a head-to-head matchup between Bryson DeChambeau and Rory McIlroy. The hosts delve into the contrasting personalities and career trajectories of the two golfers.
Bryson DeChambeau's Transformation:
Matt discusses Bryson's significant physical and professional transformation. From a "200-pound, skinny" golfer known for his analytical approach, Bryson has evolved into a more charismatic and engaging personality, leveraging social media to connect with fans.
Matt Schick [02:00]:
"His arc from villain to gosh, I kind of like this guy has been remarkable and does cause you, as a golf fan or as a casual fan to go, I don't know who I want to win."
Myron Metcalf [03:13]:
"He is kind of like the YouTube generation's favorite golfer, right?... The ones who have leaned into social media, the ones who have offered us an insight into their lives."
Rory McIlroy's Consistency:
In contrast, Rory is portrayed as the more traditional, stoic golfer, reminiscent of Tiger Woods' earlier persona. The discussion touches on Rory's ongoing quest for a career Grand Slam and his more reserved nature compared to Bryson's outgoing demeanor.
Matt Schick [04:08]:
"Rory is still a part of that old school Tiger woods era where it's like, we don't know anything about Tiger woods still... Whereas I think Bryson has been a guy who said, no, I'm gonna be a regular person."
The conversation shifts to the broader impact of social media on athletes, emphasizing how Bryson DeChambeau's active online presence has reshaped his public image and fan engagement.
Matt Schick [08:00]:
"Bryson's going on the back patio and his, you know, in his skivvies with a cup of coffee, some avocado toast, and just looking out at the horizon."
Myron Metcalf [09:56]:
"How often do we even care about the personalities of golfers? The drama today, Matt, is going to be the energy of Bryson with the calm of Rory."
A lighthearted segment ensues as callers discuss the popular Netflix series "Bridgerton." The conversation humorously highlights the challenges of finding appropriate entertainment for families, with references to the show's regency romance theme and the hosts' personal viewing experiences.
Matt Schick [05:55]:
"Bridgerton. A Regency romance. American alternative history. Regency romance television series on Netflix."
Caller Interaction [12:09]:

Caller Jim [08:00]:
"Cow's going up talk about Shedeur Saints..."
Myron Metcalf [26:54]:
"He is a top 10 pick. He will be in this draft. It feels like things are putting him in a good spot where he's going to have a destination one way or another in the top 10."
Highlighting college sports, Matt and Myron celebrate Texas A&M's remarkable comeback in baseball. The Aggies executed two ninth-inning grand slams, turning a 10-run deficit into a victory against South Carolina. The hosts commend the team's resilience and innovative home run celebration involving a green jacket.

Myron Metcalf [29:26]:
"They wave the magic wa and they sweep away the Gamecocks."
The hosts shift focus to the NBA, discussing Luka Doncic's stellar performance upon returning to Dallas and the surprising firing of Denver Nuggets' head coach Michael Malone with three games remaining in the season. They analyze the potential ramifications for both teams and the league.
