Myron
Welcome back. It is Sunday morning ESPN Radio. Matt, Myron, a lot. You know, I have a text machine where people could text in comments 772-7745254 and there's a lot of comments coming in about Myron's being scared of Hammer. One person writes, matt, it sounds like Myron's afraid of NC Hammer. Which is kind of weird because if myron paired that 11 zippered jacket with some Hammer pants, he'd be pretty fly. Yeah, that jacket you wore, you put some Hammer pants on that, you'd look like you could be in his group.
Matt
Listen, I mean, I got some flashy jacket jacket up.
Myron
That was an amazing jacket. You wore that one day.
Matt
I have flashy jackets. But I, But I'm also trying to warn you all who are making light of this MC Hammer thing. He is, he is known. He's known to deal with people.
Myron
Leads to Spunky Brewster saying, matt, I guess the name of MC Hammer's album was something Myron took to heart. Please, Hammer, don't hurt him.
Matt
See, you all are. Listen, man, that's actually a really good line. Whoever said that, you said Spunky Brewster. That was actually really good. I got to give Spunky Brewster credit for that. At the same. I don't know what y'all know about the city of Oakland.
Myron
Sounds like you. It sounds like you're worried that, like they want to come after us. Like, it's not that they are concerned. No, no, I'm not worried about any Kamozi. But I heard as concerned about MC Hammer as you are.
Matt
It's not that I would say in general, if you ever travel to the city of Oakland, okay. I would just say be respectful, be kind, because that's just not the kind of place you want to cross people. I'm just telling you what I know about the city of Oakland. MC Hammer was from Oakland.
Myron
If you see Walt. If you see Walt, why? See, see?
Matt
And this is what happens, though. This will be happening though. Y'all go take a train into some neighborhood. You're not supposed to be in. You're like, oh, I ain't afraid of nobody. And. And then you leave with a different.
Myron
I know.
Matt
Experience, man. That's what I'm trying to help people. Yeah.
Myron
You cannot. Let me just say, you cannot go to Oakland. Disparage in the name of Wally Dollenbok and think you're going to be able to come around.
Matt
You can see all this on the radio. Don't mess with Oakland. You're not going to think about Oakland. Oakland has the nicest, most kind and hospitable people.
Myron
Yeah.
Matt
In the world. Who also are people you shouldn't cross. Like, there are some cities on that list of people who are like, where.
Myron
Before we're going to get back to KTA Turbo. What cities would you be much concerned not to cross people? Is Oakland number one?
Matt
Oak. Oakland's not number one. It's up there. I mean, it's a lot of those first 48 cities.
Myron
Baltimore.
Matt
Baltimore. Don't go out there talking crazy. Miami might seem like a touristy place. That's just because you're on South Beach. But if you go to Miami. Miami. It's a different conversation. Jacksonville.
Myron
Jacksonville.
Matt
Jacksonville's. You just don't go to Jacksonville. I think that's maybe. I think that's how you avoid that. You don't even. You don't go there.
Myron
That's really mean.
Matt
You know, Louisville. Memphis.
Myron
Yeah. Don't. In Louisville. You got to be careful in Louisville. People like. Like you said, people will come up on you on a horse in Louisville if you're not careful.
Matt
And that's a real story. And I know I keep telling it, but I was at a basketball game and first off, D'Angelo Russell was there with these gold fronts he had on, and there were 30 people with them. No joke. And then Montrez Harrell showed up and just. I've never seen so many people at a basketball game. They shut down. They shut down a hot dog stand because it didn't have a permit. Like, there was like a dude who was like in the corner selling hot dogs. And we had, you know, like, dollar hot dogs. They had to shut him down. But literally off in the distance, there's a dude in a tank top on a horse riding straight toward us. And I'm nervous because I'm going, do we run? What do we do? Mind you, he also had a python around his neck. This. I have a picture to prove it. I have a picture to prove everything I'm saying.
Myron
I'd be more worried about the Python than I would the horse. But.
Matt
But he rides toward the crowd and the crowd goes, hey, Larry, what's up, man? Everyone knew him. Just a dude on a horse riding an apartment.
Myron
That's what we do. 888, say ESPN now. Bruce Pearl. Bruce Pearl and Auburn play today. Winner goes to the Final Four. And there's a little bit of coach banter, which I think Myron likes. Myron's likes when coaches kind of get back and forth a little bit. Bruce Pearl was asked about the matchup with Michigan State, and he tried to do a little gamesmanship in the press conference. Here's what he said. Most of our guys are, you know, guys that were mid majors or junior College or Division 2. And so I'm not going to let Michigan State play the underdog Cod, even though we're number one seed and they're number two seed. No, they're Michigan State, they're Kansas, they're Duke, they're North Carolina, we're Auburn. We know our place and we know what we're. We know we're trying to go up against it. We know the uphill battle that it is when you play against a Hall of Fame coach in a. Obviously a legendary program. All right, so he's basically trying to play Woe is Me. And then Tom Izzo responded with this. We're different teams in a lot of different ways. We're similar teams in a lot of different ways, but I don't know what's an underdog. You get to this point and there are no underdogs. If he wants to make us a favorite, I'm cool with that. If he wants to make us an underdog, I've been in that role before, too. I think that's the advantage of being where I've been. And, you know, we've been a one seed and got to a final Four and we've been a seven seed and got the final Four. So I don't know if the seed matters. I don't know if the underdog matters. I think the players matter and how they play the game, coaches get credit. The players play the game. And so I look at it as if we win, I'll take the credit. If we lose, I'll blame the players. You know, that's what good coaches do. Yeah, it did sound like, I don't know. How do you read that back and forth? I mean, I mean, Pearl's given respect, but I think Izzo was like, don't try to put this on me, Ricky Bob.
Matt
Yeah, I mean, well, the guy who asked the question was me. To both coaches. Wait a minute. Wait, wait.
Myron
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. The guy that asked the question was you? Is that why we played it?
Matt
Yeah, I was. I thought you were going to set it up by saying my name. I thought you were going to say Myron.
Myron
I did not know. I'm sorry. I did not know you asked the question or I would have.
Matt
No, because you don't really listen to me. Even though you told me the award.
Myron
Winning reporter asked the question. I did not know that.
Matt
You want to try again? Do we want to.
Myron
Yeah, it was me. I'll just give you the intro that I would have given. One of our two hosts on this show, Myron Metcalf, asked a question yesterday that sparked an amazing interchange between Bruce Pearl and Tom Izzo. It's the kind of question that probed right into the heart of the game. Let's hear what Bruce Pearl said first. And then I would go like that. So is that a better intro for you, Myron?
Matt
That would have been better. I mean, if you'd done it the first time, that would have been. That would have been legit. What we didn't play was Tom Izzo saying, if it makes him happy, will be the favorite. He also, he also took a little jab at Auburn's roster and he said, he called his roster mature, you know, he said, I won't call them all. I'll say they're mature, you know, so I mean, I want to see more of this man. Like, it didn't cross any lines. Bruce Pearl and Tom is our friends. I think if you're Bruce Pearl who, remember, he lost to Tom Izzo in Michigan State in 2010 when he was at Tennessee and the Elite Eight, and he talked about that game as well. I think this is time is a. I think this is Bruce Pearl talking to his team and saying, hey, listen, we got all the advantages, but don't take this team, you know, lightly because they can be very good. But I just want to see more of that back and forth between coaches that I feel like our coaches are too friendly these days.
Myron
Yeah.
Matt
And we don't get enough.
Myron
So let's think about who are the coaches. You know this better than I do. Let's. Let's spill a little tea here. I mean, this is. This is when college basketball's on the stage. Let's spill a little tea. What coaches out there that coach against each other right now don't like each other? Okay, so number one is Rick Patino and John Cal Peri like they hate each.
Matt
Which we just saw.
Myron
Which we saw. Who else you may know better than me? Who are some other coaches that like. It's known they don't like each other. See, I don't.
Matt
I don't know if there's any deep.
Myron
There's got to be people that dislike Danny Hurley. Like, somebody's got to dislike Danny Hurley.
Matt
Yeah, I mean, but Hurley's still pretty young in the game, you know what I mean? It's not like the older days. What the Hurley and Creighton had the thing earlier this year. Yeah.
Myron
Is it Calcon Brenner or whatever his name is?
Matt
Cal Britta. Yeah. Greg McDermott. But I don't think there's bad blood. I mean, Cal and Bettina are from that school though, that old school where. I think that's why the loss for Rick Patino. It could have been anybody else. But to lose that game to. To Rick Patino in the way.
Myron
I mean, Rick are the only one. There's got to be more. I mean, there's got. Like somebody's got to hate Nate Oates. Like somebody has to.
Matt
Somebody. Yeah, but the problem is you guys are young, but these guys are young.
Myron
And young people hate each other more than old people do because they're tempers.
Matt
It's a different generation, man. Most of these guys say all the right things.
Myron
Well, in history, who did you have?
Matt
You.
Myron
You had John Chaney and Cal Perry. They. They of course famously got in a fight that was fun.
Matt
Big John versus everybody. Big John Thompson, you know those other.
Myron
Big east coaches, they didn't like John Thompson.
Matt
Well, I think they was. They were just all battling, you remember, like that, that 90s Big east, like they were all against one another. I think Coach Case certainly probably had enemies, but I don't know that anyone would say that publicly.
Myron
The comments. Every enemy I can think is Cal Perry because Cal Perry and Calhoun didn't get along. Cal Perry and John Chaney didn't get along. Cal Perry and Rick Patino didn't get along.
Matt
We had Dwan Howard and Greg Guard. You know, they, they went at it.
Myron
That's right. They did go at it.
Matt
But they, but they made up and became friends. You know, they, they squashed that.
Myron
Yeah. But I have a feeling when you get in a real fight with somebody, you don't ever really make up.
Matt
No, you don't like.
Myron
Like, you act like you don't, but when the door shuts, you're. You're still like, he's. He's the worst. Yeah.
Matt
No, Juwan definitely had his share. But I mean, not, not many, man.
Myron
There's unfortunately not many. It's tough because, like, a lot of these guys at the best schools aren't hateable anymore. Like, John Shire doesn't seem hateable. If you're not a Kentucky fan, how are you going to hate Mark Pope? He doesn't seem very hateable. Hubert Davis isn't really hateable. Like, the problem is these powers, they don't have coaches that people hate anymore.
Matt
Well, you can't anymore because the guy on that other team might be your starting point guard next year. So I think that's a big factor in everything, too.
Myron
That's a very good point. Well, we got other headlines from across the world of sports, probably some of which were started by great questions by Myron Metcalf. We will give those headlines next here on Sunday MORNING with Matt Myron.
Matt
Matt and myron. The podcast.
Myron

It is sunny morning here on ESPN Radio presented by Progressive Insurance. I think one of the things people don't realize over the years is how many hammer hits there were. You know, you think about can't touch this, but what about two legit quit? We got to pray. We got to pray just to make it today, you know, and then according to Myron, he's the toughest guy in the world. Lamar in Atlanta, I was kind of making fun of the idea that hammer was so tough that you can't get near him. Lamar in Atlanta, I think he wants to agree with Meyer. What do you got, Lamar?
Lamar
Yeah, man, Myron, you kind of stole a little bit of my thunder. I was gonna bring up a couple of points. One, the point about Oakland, just think about Oakland, right? If you've been to Oakland game and see where that stadium is located across the street, it can get very, very sketchy. It looks a little. That's one thing. Number two, there's a clip out there. It was from some interview in the 90s. It was on MTV. Forgive me, I can't remember what exactly it was, what show, but there's a clip of outkast talking about how gangster MC Hammer was like, yes, remember? I specifically remember. I think big boy saying, Hammer will whoop your. You know what? And, you know, back then, outkast wasn't really viewed. It's like the global icons they are now. They were some, you know, hood brothers from Atlanta. And so when I saw that as a kid, I was like, huh, There may be some truth to this, right? And then my last one, I'll wrap it up. If you look at the moves you mentioned, pumps in the bumps, or just look at any of Hammer's videos, the moves he's pulling off, you have to have, like, some athletic prowess to do these things.
Myron
I would definitely say he's athletic. I'm just saying if I walked around the corner and saw him in his Hammer pants and bright old shirt and those glasses, I'm just not immediately going to be. Be as scared as I am of, let's say, but you mx.
Matt
But you don't see the other dudes on that music video set. You see the dances.
Myron
Yeah.
Matt
You don't see. You don't see. You don't see the other dude. JJ and JJ, Tony Jr.
Myron
I haven't seen JJ. You're right. I appreciate it. I still think you're cool. You know, me and Hammer, we don't.
Matt
See those dudes who, who don't use their government names. But they were out.
Myron
Sunday morning is presented by Progressive Insurance. Life can be hard, so Progressive makes bundling your home in auto easy. Hope that helps. Learn more@progressive.com or 1-800-Progressive.
Matt
The Sunday Headlines.
Myron
All right, let's get started. What else is out there?
Matt
All right, so the Yankees yesterday hit nine home runs against the Brewers. Nine home runs. And social media was abuzz with what the Yankees bats look like. Here's Michael Caine during the broadcast talking about the new shape. The Yankee front office. The analytics department did a study on Anthony Volpe and every single ball it seemed like he hit on the label.
Myron
He didn't hit any on the barrel.
Matt
So they had bats made up where they moved A lot of the wood into the label.
Myron
So the harder part of the bat.
Matt
Is going to actually strike the ball.
Myron
Now, I saw this live, Myron. I was watching the game, and it's kind of fascinating. If you look at the bat. How would you describe it, James? It looks like a. Like a bowling pin?
Matt
Yeah. Almost like elongated bowling pin, basically.
Myron
Yeah. I mean, it's got like a bunch more hell, like heft where the label is and not down at the end. Do you like the idea of changing the bats based on the particular hitter and where he hits the ball?
Matt
Well, I. You know, that happened to my brewers and SportsCenter spent like 25 minutes just showing every home run. And then I look at the bats and I go, okay, now it makes sense. You know, I would never accuse anyone of juicing the bats, but they don't look like normal bats.
Myron
Do you think that's fair? You think it's fair for the. For the Yankees to have their own bats?
Matt
They hit a home run, I believe, off the first four brewers pitches of the game. Yeah, first three pitches. First three. I'm sorry, but I mean, like, then there was an out, and then they hit the fourth and the first. I just. Yeah, it just, you know, I don't like the little tweaks. Send a little here and little there and all the doo to do to do that you do in baseball. And all of a sudden.
Myron
But now, apparently. But now, like, people can adjust now and try to throw to the end of their bat where we now. They don't have as much wood. We now know.
Matt
All I know is I turned on Sports center, And for, like, 25 minutes, they were going through every home run that the Yankees hit against my Brewer.
Myron
Well, I was watching this live, and he did, and they were making a big deal about it. I wonder, James, if they just shouldn't have said anything. Like, now we all know. Maybe if they'd kept going, we wouldn't have even known. I think Michael K. Gave up the secret.
Matt
Yeah. Just two things. They weren't. They weren't just going over and over all of the Yankees home runs in Sports Center. They were just showing them all, and it took a long time. So that's what I'm talking about, though. Like, you know, that's. And again, do I think the Yankees obviously are. They're very good. But I think now you're setting up other teams to scrutinize those bats and for it to become a conversation. If they keep blasting nine home runs a game, it's going to become A conversation.
Myron
Maybe it's just your brew stink. What's next?
Matt
Hold on. Is this the tush push of Major League baseball? Is this what it could be? This is what this is going to be.
Myron
No, because you could copy it. These other teams can do the same thing. And remember they said it was Volpe. They didn't say they did it for every player. They said they did it for Volpe specifically. It wasn't like they all were hitting with bowling pins.
Matt
Yeah, I'm sure Aaron Judge just does pilates in the off season.
Myron
What's next?
Matt
Paige Beckers dropped 40 points and Yukon's win over Oklahoma yesterday advancing Yukon to the elite eight.
Myron
You know we were talking about Hammer for a minute ago and the one of Hammer's buddies was Dr. Dre who had a song once. They forgot about Dre. Well, I think people have been forgetting about Paige. Paige was almost Caitlin Clark before Caitlin Clark. Then she got hurt and so people kind of forgot that Paige existed. It's like, who's Paige Beckers? Well, now she comes back. Yesterday 40 points scored, 19 in a row. Myron, they went on a 19 oh run in this game. They're going to have a big one coming up here with usc maybe in the net. Would be interesting to see if they win Yukon. We may be getting Paige Becker's on a run.
Matt
Yeah, I mean I think people forgot that she won the Wooden award as a freshman, you know, and yeah, there would always have been a Caitlin Clark, but if Paige had stayed healthy, you know, that would have been a cool battle to watch between those two. But now clearly she's the best player I think in college basketball. And we're going into a WNBA in the next five years. That'll have Caitlin Andrew Reese, Paige Juju Watkins, you know, hoping for a really good recovery with her after the ACL tear. But the women's game is in a very special place. But Paige Beckers is a big part of it.
Myron
She's also the very first college athlete that I know of to have her own shoe while she's in college. And I have one.
Matt
It's amazing.
Myron
I have one of the page.
Matt
She's rich. Rich by the way. I mean, you know, she's a, she's a twin Sid. She's from Minute Minnesota. Like we talk about nil. And there's some people making some good money. Paige is on that. She's in Gatorade commercials during the tournament. That's a different thing.
Myron
Kobe Brayek does your taxes during the tournament. If you, if you notice who's up next.
Matt
Last week we talked about the Giant signing Jameis Winston. This week we're going to talk about the Giant signing Russell Wilson. He signed a one year deal with the New York Giants earlier this week. What do you guys think about that?
Myron
I want to misfit toys. I like it. Put everybody on that team that's possible and then just give me a reality show. It already worked when Hard Knocks did the off season last year. Let's do it again. Jamis, Russell Wilson, put them all in the room. Get Zach Wilson. Put everybody in there. I'd love Matt Leinert. Let's just have them all in there and let's watch it.
Matt
Russell and Jameis Winston together, they are going to have. I don't know if the players are ready for this, especially those young guys. They're gonna have three hour pregame Bible studies. Like, I don't know, like those guys are gonna be frustrated because those two.
Myron
Motivational speeches in there, it's every pre.
Matt
It's gonna be. They're gonna have like, you know, you have a rap battle. They're gonna have a motivational speech battle between those two.
Myron
They need to sign Eli Gemstone, have him come in there as well. Let's just make it the preaching. The preaching is team. That there is. You could. If they don't get a playbook, they get the the Gospel of Peter. That's what you do when you go play.
Matt
You'll get a lot of Sunday morning texts from those.
Myron
That's exactly what you do. We it is here. So we could both say that because we're Christians. My mom's still mad at me. I do this show during church. Sunday morning with Matt. Myron is next.

It is Sunday morning here on ESPN Radio presented by Progressive Insurance. 888 say ESPN. During the break, Meyer and Metcalf just looked at me and said, what is the perfect temperature outside? And I said I thought was a very reasonable answer, 78 degrees. And he started yelling at me and he said, and you use the phrase 78 degrees is a sauna. And I don't know how you can say that, Myron. How can you say, like, 78 degrees is a sauna? 78 degrees is perfect. 78 degrees with breeze is perfect.
Matt
No, it's not. I'm talking like year round. Like if you could live in a place and this was the temperature every day.
Myron
78.
Matt
78 sounds miserable to me. 3.
Myron
But it's because you live in Minnesota and you all are used to it being 12 degrees.
Matt
No, you. But you're basically into the 80s at 70.
Myron
No, 78. 78's good. And then the thing is, if wind or rain comes, if you're 78, you're still good. You get down to like 70. And if it's windy or rainy, it starts to get a little chilly. You need a jacket.
Matt
I think you would be even. Even in people who live in warm climates, I think you would be in the minority in terms of saying 78 degrees is the ideal tip.
Myron
888 say ESPN. This is a really good topic. What is your favorite? What is the actual perfect temperature? 888 say ESPN. Are you more like me? Are you more like Myron out there with the Eskimos? Now, Jay Williams was on here earlier and he said that Cooper Flag has a chance to be like the third best one and done if he wins a title, maybe behind AD And Durant. I don't think he can hit AD because remember, AD was national player of the year defensively as well, which Cooper Flagg is not going to be. But I will say this. We watched. I watched Cooper Flag early in the year he played against Kentucky. He. He has improved exponentially since that game where he fell down at the end. I will be interested to see Myron if he's able to finish this. And I think if he is, he goes in that sort of hall of Fame of freshman players. How do you think the game translates to the next level? Is he AD Zion Level of hype going into the pros or is he below that?
Matt
I mean, I think he's a very good pro. I mean, the thing about ad, the thing about Zion is they had like athletic gifts that few people have ever had, regardless of age. I don't think he's that, but I think he'll be a very polished pro.
Myron
So he's like. If you're going to compare him to somebody, what, what is he as an NBA player?
Matt
It's got a lot of Paul George qualities, I think to him. You know, he's explosive, highly skilled, really good defender. And that size is real too. I mean, so I think he has a lot of gifts. I would say the thing about Cooper though, he still has to finish, right? We still got to see what he does from here. But he is certainly in the conversation of the greatest one and dones. I think that we have seen the advantage I think he has in the conversation over all those other guys you mentioned. He's supposed to be a high school senior. I mean those games he played against Kansas, in Kentucky. He was 17 years old, didn't turn 18 until December. So I mean, you're talking about a high school senior doing all this. I don't know how many times we've seen that.
Myron
There was a guy on television this morning, forgive me if I for not knowing who it was, who said duke is the perfectly constructed team. Like it has one of everything you'd want and sometimes two. Do you agree with that?
Matt
Yeah.
Myron
Yes.
Matt
I think the depth is. I don't know when I've seen this depth outside of some of those great 90s Connecticut dude teams. I mean, you get Caleb Foster, right? A guy who played some minutes last night has been a guy coming off the bench. Four star top 30 kid, Isaiah Evans comes off the bench, played six minutes yesterday, top 40 NBA prospect. I mean, you have guys coming off that Duke bench who could have been starters in a lot of other places who were four star level guys even higher. I don't know many teams that have actually been able to do that, especially in the Portal era. In the Portal era, guys like that are somewhere else. They're not coming off your bench. And I think that's what's unique about Duke.
Myron
Are you surprised that John Shire was able to do that like that? He has been. I mean normally following a legend is a good way to be a disaster. And he has, he's in a final four. He's recruited well. I mean a lot of people didn't think there was any way that he would succeed to the level he has. Are you surprised he's been able to continue the Duke train?
Matt
I'm surprised that he's been this good because I think he carried a lot of weight following Coach K. What I think he did well compared to other guys who followed legends, is he admitted that he was following a legend that he would never match. I mean, he never shied away from it. He never said, this is the John Shire era. He said, no, I'm following the greatest coach of all time and I wouldn't be here without him. And I think that helped him create his own era. The fact that he gave so much credit to Coach K, the. Coach K still has the big office at Duke, by the way. Right. Shire's office is a floor below him. So I think he did it the right way. Rather than saying, I'm going to make sure everybody knows that this is my era, he said, no, I'm. This is an extension of a legacy that's already been established. He's been a great recruiter. He was a huge recruiter with Coach K. He's getting top talent to commit to Duke. That helps a lot, too.
Myron
Yes, it does. Now, I was about to go. We had somebody on Rob to talk to give the perfect temperature, and then he jumped off because I think he got in too long of a conversation with our man James there. James gets to know these people, but Matt and Charlotte is available. Sure.
Matt
They're decent people. I think that's the goal.
Myron
78. 70. What's the better weather, bro?
Lamar
All right. I'm from Florida, so I've been up here 10 years. 78 is horrendous. You are way too hot.
Matt
All right?
Lamar
And unless you're into, like, sun tanning, putting oil all over your body.
Myron
That'S you. You love putting oil all over your body. You should be into 78.
Matt
What are you talking about, man?
Myron
What? Why do you all think 78 is hot? Like, what world do you live in? You lived in Florida. It gets into, like, the 80s with humidity. Like, what are you talking about?
Lamar
Oh, every day. But it's so humid here.
Myron
The only time 78 really is good.
Lamar
Is if you're on the beach in the evening in Florida and it's gotten down to 78. But no, I think you're at least getting off. Think about 65 to 68. That's how that feels. Versus soon as you hit 78, you're basically 80 humidity. You're sweating when you want. I don't know, man.
Myron
All right, well, I appreciate the Call. I can't help it that you all are. You all are scared to go outside. You, like, staying in 78 is too hot. Humidity is a big part of it. Like, if you are in a place like Kentucky that gets very humid, like 88 can feel like you're in the, you know, in death. So, I mean, humidity is a big part of is.
Matt
But. But that's why I said 70 to me is ideal. Like 65 to 70 is ideal.
Myron
Tom is in Chicago. Tom, be on my side.
Matt
I was just gonna say there's an.
Lamar
Old movie called Pleasantville, and it was every day 72 degrees.
Myron
Yeah, but you remember the moral that movie. Everyone was miserable. And at the end of the day, they all ended. They were all psychopaths. So you all that are only in 70 to 72 degrees. Psychopaths shot went in.
Lamar
I remember that, too. I think I was about 18, 20 years old when that came out.
Myron
Appreciate the call. Yeah. So pleasant. Bill Russell is going to the LSU UCLA game today. Kim Mulkey. Wonder if she's gonna come out dressed like Michael Jackson again. Russell, are you looking forward to it? Yeah, I'm looking really forward to it.
Matt
Wait, hold on. Hold on a second. Hold on. If you're gonna do mj, you got. You got to be better than that.
Myron
I mean, do it one more time.
Matt
Russell, I like, give us a real mj.
Myron
See? I like it.
Matt
There you go.
Myron
I like it. Russell, you're doing a good job. Don't let Myron take you down. Let me say this lsu, UCLA game, probably going to be the best Elite Eight game of all of them. Who you got?
Lamar
Well, if I want to. If I want to live in the state of Washington, I have to go for lsu. I can't go for ucla. I'll get kicked out, but I'm not really familiar with it. Go ahead.
Myron
Yeah, well, this LSU team's not quite as good as the ones before. They're beatable, but. But they still have talent when they get hot. Are you Appreciate the call. Myron, you pro or anti mulky?
Matt
I think she brings a lot to the game and brings a lot of attention to the sport. And I think personalities like her help the game overall, you know.
Myron
You know what's interesting to me about her? I'm fascinated with the dynamic of her and her players. Right. Because she is this very outspoken, like, MAGA coach, you know, and then she has players, though, who all have, like, attitudes and like, their personalities are out. And it seems like she would never like those players and vice versa yet they all seem to really connect. I find that dynamic very fascinating.
Matt
Yeah, But I think it's pretty common. What's interesting on the women's side is, like, we tend to know what they think on issues, and on the men's side, they just don't say anything about what they.
Myron
But aren't you surprised that, like, someone like Angel Reese would get along with somebody like Kim Mulkey?
Matt
I mean, again, I'm gonna say this, and you're gonna go back to the start of the show. You know, she is who she is, and I think she is who she is. And if you understand that people understand. There are a lot of coaches.
Myron
I give her a lot of credit for the fact that they. But, like, it just seems like you would. That those personalities would just clash to no end. Like, but. Yet they. But, like, they seem to flourish under her.
Matt
And she was a great player, so I think she was a great player.
Myron
And that may. That may be part of it as well. Nick is in Durham, North Carolina, celebrating the final four. And you say you are in the perfect weather right now. So what is it?
Lamar
Perfect weather right now? First of all. Hey, you guys. How you doing? You guys are entertaining this morning. Killing me. Second, perfect weather right now is 74 degrees. It's beautiful out here. I mean, it could get rain. It could get the wind. It doesn't matter right now. It's perfect now as far as everything goes. You talking about my man John Shire. I met him in a Chipotle on the first. Like, his first day of his first basketball game. I told him to his face, you guys, I said, hey, man, I got no problem with you replacing Coach K. I met you once, twice before. You are a great person. You got great basketball. Acronym. I believe in you. And he looked at me dead in mind. He said, we got this. Now look who y'all right now, fella.
Myron
Appreciate the call.
Matt
You got great basketball. What did he say?
Myron
He said, acrimony, which is not the word. I think you meant acumen.
Matt
It's close.
Myron
Great, great basketball. Acrimony. It's like, you almost had.
Matt
It was a good take.
Myron
It was you. He did great. Like that call. I gave it an A until he tried to get the big words out there, because acrimony is not the word he's looking for. I do like however that John Shire eats a Chipotle. I don't think you're going to caught Mike dot com.
Matt
Like, we love the source dot com. I mean, that's the thing. We. We will look up a Word. That's why I think he probably ended up with acrimony.
Myron
But SH is not anywhere close to acumen. It's not even. I do think his vicinity.
Matt
No. I do think his appeal though is there were, in a way Coach K was untouchable.
Myron
Yes.
Matt
And that there was just. He was just so. I remember doing an interview with Coach.
Myron
K, yelled at my ex girlfriend, yelled at my ex girlfriend, hit her, hit her with the car, then blamed her.
Matt
Wait, what?
Myron
My ex girlfriend got into a minor traffic accident with Mike Krzyzewski. And when I walked out of the law school, he was like yelling at her. This was like in 2001.
Matt
I've heard a lot of your stories. I've never heard this story.
Myron
Well, I mean, it didn't end up in anything crazy, but it was like I came out there and I was like, hey, man, like, y'all are fine. Why. Why is everybody. Why is everybody raising their voice? And he calmed down and everything was good. Like, I don't hold a grudge. I. I'm just saying. I don't know how I got off on that when I was talking about Chipotle, but I'm just saying he was kind of like a larger and live figure. Like, how dare you get in a traffic accident with me when I think it was his fault.
Matt
I remember my first interview with Coach K and it was like walking back with a dignitary, you know, like they usher into his office. There's like a couple of people sitting there because they want to make sure you're asking Coach K all the right questions. Whereas you go talk to Shire and he's just as down to earth. And that's again, I think Coach K got to that point because of everything he had achieved. But right now, at least, and this could change, Shire is very accessible for someone who still needs to be careful.
Myron
When he's backing out onto the Edwards, you know, onto the roads there in Durham. You got to be careful. You can't be backing into people right next to law school because the basketball facility, the door, the road to leave, it goes by the law school. And he was going around hitting people. You just have to be careful. 888 say ESPN.

My, my music hits me so hard Makes me say, oh my Lord, thank you for blessing me With Myron Metcalf and two White feet. It's Sunday morning on ESPN Radio, presented by Progressive Insurance. Are you impressed with me knowing the words in that song?
Matt
I just always wanted to be able to do that thing like where he, like, glides across the stage like, I always wanted to be able to.
Myron
You were not impressed with me knowing those words right there. By the way, I haven't heard that song in 35 years. And I just gave you the first verse and you didn't even like.
Matt
Yeah, congratulations. You know the rap songs that played on radio? On the school bus.
Myron
No, on the way to school. Look, just because it was on at the skating rink, it doesn't mean that was. Just doesn't mean I'm not a hard.
Matt
The parents. The parents. The white parents were okay with MC Hammer at the skating rink. You're right.
Myron
Would you have been more impressed if I gave you every verse of Tribe Called Quest scenario with Buster Rhymes and Leaders of the New School?
Matt
Yeah, that'd be shot. That'd be shocking.
Myron
Well, but it also, if he were to ever. If my. If Mikey ever plays it. Yeah, I'll be glad to do that for you. Because Bo knows this and Bo knows that, but Bo don't know Jack because Bo can't rap.
Matt
Can't rap. Yeah. Riddle me this. Yeah, you know, you know those lyrics. It also, when you talk about hip hop, it feels like you listened. You were in a phase. And you listen to hip hop from 1990.
Myron
Dude, I know every rap song before. No, it's like 91, 1990-97, 98. I got it all.
Matt
And that's the golden era, though.
Myron
That is. It's. I would argue this is not the topic that's on the screen here, but I would argue that the best time in music, period, is the 90s. The 90. And I mean, people say that. Well, because you were in high school and college. But here's the thing. Best era, rap, 90s. Yep, best. The last era of rock was really in the 90s, pop music. You had Britney, you had Christina, you had the Backstreet Boys, NSync, if you like that stuff. You had. The great grunge era was during that time, like groups like the Rolling Stones were still playing. Like they, you know, Duran Duran was still putting out albums, all of that. And then the little one hit wonders, right? Like, I'm Too Sexy for My Love.
Matt
Like all that stuff.
Myron
That's all in the 90s. And then starting in 2000, music just started going and it's been down ever since.
Matt
If you had a good song and a good music video, you could make money for life. I mean, in the 90s, like, there were a lot of people who are still touring and it was the last.
Myron
Generation where the videos, like, did it for you. Like Jamiroqua. Oh, people only know Jamiroqua exists because of that stupid video on the treadmills, right? Like, that's the only reason anybody knows that band exists.
Matt
And it was also, you know, I don't think you. I don't know if you have groups anymore, but you had these R B groups. Yeah, you know what I mean? Where they had dance routines and they were singing real song, real love songs, man. Like, they weren't making up lyrics.
Myron
America is shy now, you know, you don't ever see a shy or swv, right? Like, you don't see. Nobody's doing that.
Matt
Nobody's humming anymore on records. You know what I mean? Nobody's whistling, you know, I mean, like, I just. There was a dude in the 90s. You could be in the 90s bed just by humming. Oh, just by, dude. If you could snap your fingers and hum, you were the fifth dude in a. In a band.
Myron
You could be in Boys to Men and just talk. Just be the dude with the deep voice.
Matt
He didn't even.
Myron
He just got up and said, baby, I love you more than you ever would know. And like, that was that whole thing, dude.
Matt
And that was like the first three and a half minutes of the song. Like, they didn't even sing until he told you exactly what he was feeling.
Myron
There's a lot of younger people going, going, who are these two old dudes on the radio talking about? Let's go to. Let's go to Randy in North Carolina. How you doing, Randy? All right.
Lamar
Good morning, guys.
Matt
Love the show.
Myron
Thank you.
Matt
Thanks, Randy.
Lamar
I just have one question. To settle the 78 degrees.
Myron
Okay.
Lamar
Both of you tell the world what? Y'all keep the thermostat on, and I'm gonna hang up.
Myron
Okay. But it's different when it's indoors because it gets stagnant. It gets stagnant because. So, like, it's a different temperature indoors. So I keep it at 71. But, like, it's. Because if your air stays stagnant in your house. But if I'm outside and there's breeze, I want it to be a little warmer.
Matt
Yeah, I'm a 68. 69 guy.
Myron
You can 68 in your house.
Matt
Yeah, I mean, I like.
Myron
Dude, that's that tip.
Matt
Yeah, but I mean, it's a different thing compared to outdoors. You like that outdoors is different.
Myron
Let's notice that. Just. It's just the way you say things makes me laugh. I like that. Let's go to Harold in Hollywood. What's up?
Matt
Now we're even thinking about that.
Lamar
Hey, filmers, I want to know, hey, if you want some nice, beautiful weather, come out to Southern California, get away from that damn Midwest crap. This is where it's at down here.
Myron
I agree.
Matt
Anyway, yeah, Earthquakes, man, not Harold. I'm afraid of earthquakes, though. I'm afraid of that.
Lamar
Don't be afraid. Don't be. Don't be a baby.
Matt
Why should I be afraid of earthquakes? What are you talking about?
Myron
Because there's nothing to do about it. I mean, I'm in Kentucky, we have tornadoes. But I don't just sit here every day going, there's gonna be a tornado. I mean, like, you just gotta live life. Myron.
Matt
No, but he said, don't be afraid of an earthquake. That sounds like a Southern California thing y'all say to me.
Myron
Harold, think. Make your point before Myron talks over you.
Lamar
Yeah, real quick, real quick. What. What did Duke pay? I don't like the nil or the transfer portal.
Myron
I'm an old timer.
Lamar
But what did Duke pay to bring in Cooper Flag to play basketball?
Myron
I. I see. The problem is, I don't know, Harold, that anyone knows the answer. Like, you hear numbers, but, Myron, I tend to think most of the numbers are inflated. So it's like nobody really knows what they make.
Matt
No, but it's seven figures. He. He's making millions.
Myron
He is making me. Yeah, I'm serious. But as far as the actual number, like, your guess is as good as mine. I'm with, by the way. There's a lot of people agreeing with me on the 90s music being the best. And thank you very much. Spin Doctors, Blues Traveler. Come on. We'll be right back.
Matt
Matt and Myron. The podcast rapper Sean Diddy Combs was a king maker. He had wealth, fame and power. Until it all came crashing down. Federal investigators raiding two homes owned by hip hop mogul Sean Diddy Combs. I'm Brian Buckmire, an ABC News legal contributor.

Sunday Mornings with Matt and Myron: Hour 2 – "What's the Best Weather?"
Release Date: March 30, 2025
In this engaging episode of ESPN Radio's "Sunday Mornings with Matt and Myron," hosts Matt Jones and Myron Medcalf delve into a variety of topics spanning sports rivalries, innovative sports equipment, standout athletes, and even the perennial debate on the ideal weather. The conversation is interspersed with humor, listener interactions, and insightful analysis, making it a comprehensive listen for sports enthusiasts.
The episode kicks off with a lighthearted discussion sparked by listener comments about Myron Medcalf's apprehension towards MC Hammer. A listener noted, “[01:08] Myron's being scared of Hammer,” prompting a playful banter between Matt and Myron about fashion and fear. Myron quips, “[01:41] *Myron's like, 'Please, Hammer, don't hurt him.'” Matt humorously counters by suggesting that if Myron donned Hammer pants, he’d look “pretty fly” and could fit into MC Hammer's iconic style.
The conversation transitions into a broader discussion about Oakland's reputation. Myron emphasizes the importance of respecting the city, noting, “[02:26] You cannot go to Oakland disparage in the name of Wally Dollenbok and think you're going to be able to come around.” Matt echoes this sentiment, advising listeners to be respectful when visiting Oakland to avoid negative experiences, despite the city's hospitable nature.
Transitioning to collegiate basketball, Matt brings up a heated exchange between coaches Bruce Pearl of Auburn and Tom Izzo of Michigan State. Myron summarizes the interaction, “[05:03] *Tom Izzo responded with... 'If he wants to make us a favorite, I'm cool with that.'” Matt criticizes the lack of authentic rivalry in modern coaching, stating, “[08:41] I feel like our coaches are too friendly these days. We don't get enough.”
They reminisce about past coaching feuds, mentioning figures like Rick Pitino and John Calipari, and discuss the evolution of coach relationships in today's sports environment. Myron reflects, “[09:00] Who else you may know better than me? Who are some other coaches that like... it's known they don't like each other.” The hosts express nostalgia for earlier eras when coaching rivalries were more pronounced and sometimes contentious.
Shifting gears to Major League Baseball, Matt highlights the New York Yankees' latest strategy involving their bats. “[15:32] The Yankees yesterday hit nine home runs against the Brewers.” The Yankees' analytics department redesigned the bats to concentrate the wood in the label area, enhancing Volpe’s hitting performance. Matt observes, “[16:06] Anthony Volpe... every single ball it seemed like he hit on the label.”
The hosts debate the fairness and implications of such modifications. Myron questions, “[17:03] Do you think that's fair for the Yankees to have their own bats?” While Matt acknowledges the Yankees' prowess, he expresses concern over the potential for other teams to adopt similar tweaks, “[17:32] Do I like the little tweaks? Send a little here and little there...”
The conversation seamlessly transitions to the women's college basketball scene, spotlighting Paige Beckers' remarkable performance. “[18:56] Paige Beckers dropped 40 points and Yukon's win over Oklahoma yesterday.” Myron emphasizes her impact, stating, “[19:05] Now, clearly she's the best player I think in college basketball.” They discuss her potential future in the WNBA and her role in elevating the women's game.
Myron also highlights Beckers' groundbreaking NIL (Name, Image, Likeness) deals, mentioning, “[20:11] She's also the very first college athlete that I know of to have her own shoe while she's in college.” The hosts commend her marketability and influence, underscoring her significance in the evolving landscape of college athletics.
Addressing NFL news, Matt discusses Russell Wilson’s recent one-year contract with the New York Giants. “[20:37] He signed a one year deal with the New York Giants earlier this week. What do you guys think about that?” Myron expresses excitement about the potential dynamics Wilson brings, humorously suggesting, “[21:09] Put Russell and Jameis Winston together, they are going to have... three-hour pregame Bible studies.”
They speculate on the chemistry between veteran Wilson and emerging talents like Zach Wilson, envisioning entertaining locker room interactions and motivational rivalries that could captivate fans.
A recurring theme of the episode is the debate over the perfect outdoor temperature. Myron asserts, “[23:20] What is the perfect temperature? 888 say ESPN.” He advocates for 78 degrees with a breeze, while Matt counters, “[24:02] 78 sounds miserable to me.” Their friendly disagreement leads to listener calls, including one from Florida declaring, “[29:07] 78 is horrendous. You are way too hot.”
Lamar from Florida adds, “[29:50] It's 74 degrees is perfect...” highlighting regional preferences and the role of humidity in temperature perception. The hosts negotiate their ideal temperatures, with Matt favoring cooler ranges like 65-70 degrees, and Myron maintaining, “[24:10] But you're basically into the 80s at 70.” The spirited exchange underscores the subjective nature of weather preferences.
Returning to college basketball, Matt praises Duke’s continued excellence under Coach Jon Scheyer. “[26:55] I think the depth is... unique about Duke.” They discuss how Scheyer successfully carries Coach K’s legacy, with Matt highlighting Scheyer’s humility: “[28:00] He admitted that he was following a legend...” Myron adds, “[28:52] He's very accessible for someone who still needs to be careful.”
The hosts commend Duke’s recruiting prowess and strategic leadership, attributing their sustained success to Scheyer’s respectful approach to his predecessor's legacy and his ability to attract top-tier talent.
In a nostalgic detour, Matt and Myron express their admiration for 1990s music, arguing it as the best era for various genres. Myron passionately states, “[39:26] The best time in music, period, is the 90s.” They reminisce about iconic bands and artists like Outkast, Jamiroquai, and RB groups, emphasizing the era's musical diversity and creativity.
Matt echoes this sentiment, noting, “[41:12] You had these R&B groups where they had dance routines and were singing real love songs.” They contrast this with current music trends, suggesting a decline in musical quality and diversity post-90s.
Throughout the episode, Matt and Myron engage with listeners, taking calls that add depth and humor to their discussions. One memorable interaction includes Myron sharing a personal story about an altercation involving Coach K: “[35:40] My ex-girlfriend got into a minor traffic accident with Mike Krzyzewski.” This anecdote showcases the hosts' ability to intertwine personal experiences with broader topics, enriching the conversation.
Additionally, they discuss fan interactions, such as a caller recounting meeting John Shire at a Chipotle, highlighting the accessibility and personality of contemporary coaches compared to legendary figures.
As the episode wraps up, Matt and Myron reflect on the diverse topics covered, from sports innovations and coaching dynamics to cultural preferences in music and weather. Their balanced discourse offers listeners a multifaceted view of the sports world, enriched by personal anecdotes and lively debates.
