Sunday morning here, Matt Myron, Matt Jones, Myron Metcalf ready to rock. For the final hour, you can tune in to baseball. Tonight, the Rangers host the Tigers. That's right, Texas and Detroit coverage of Sunday night baseball begins at 6 Eastern on ESPN Radio. ESPN app 7pm on ESPN. Tigers have lost six straight. I don't know if I should read that in the promo because that doesn't make you want to tune in, but maybe they'll keep losing and you can watch their misery along with the rest of the United States. Now, we started a new game here a couple weeks ago and it's, it's taken off like, like wildfire. It's called King of the Mountain. And you get 30 seconds to make your your case that why on any sports topic, you're a hottest take. And if you're king of the mountain, you get to have your take played again the next week and people will try to knock it off. So last week we had a winner. It's Jared in St. Louis. I want to remind you all what Jared's hot take was and why he's king of the mountain.
Matt Jones
Go ahead, call now with your hottest taste.
Myron Metcalf
Hello.
Matt Jones
And then Matt and Myron will announce the hottest of them all.
Myron Metcalf
Is his destiny gonna be fulfilled? My destiny awaits. This is the King of the Mountain champion.
Matt Jones
The king of the mountain.
Myron Metcalf
Ladies and gentlemen, your winner and new.
Jared
King of the mountain.
Brad
Let's go to Jared in St. Louis.
Jared
What's up, Jared? I don't understand why everybody's on Mike Tomlin's first foul hall of guy. They're like, oh, he has no losing record. That's not a Hall of Fame ballot thing. Like, he's 8 and 11 at playoffs in 10 years. He has eight straight postseason losses. He's up there with the Carolina Panthers, the Cardinals, the Raiders, Miami Dolphins, Atlanta and the jets as not having any of these playoff wins. He's three and nine in the playoffs in 14 years. Like, what are we talking about? Why is Pittsburgh held a standard now that somehow espn, not you guys personally, but seems to think Like Pittsburgh's the standard of football and they've been mediocre to trash for 10 years now.
Myron Metcalf
There you go. So Jared in St. Louis making the anti Mike Tomlin case. Now, can any of the people on here knock him off? Jared knocked off Glenn in Atlantic City. Who his take was robot umpires aren't good. I kind of liked Glenn in Atlanta city, that is. But you voted against him iron and I was gone. And so I couldn't veto you. So let's get started. Will someone be able to knock off Jared? Let's go to Brad in North Carolina. Brad, go ahead.
Jared
Yeah, it's about NASCAR and the point system. I actually need a professor and Trig to help me figure it out. But why don't they just do it like golf? If you win, you get one. If you lose, you get 40. Or if you're in the top 10, you get whatever in the bottom. And at the end of the year, the one with the most loses. And then one quick one. Baseball, Home run derby. Let a pitching machine do the pitches. Forget the pitch.
Myron Metcalf
You can only. First of all, two things. One, you can only have one take. Secondly, you said whoever gets the most loses. That doesn't even make sense. You just said that. You said the NASCAR system was too complicated and your. Your rationale was to make it to where the person who wins the most loses. Myron, that was the lowest king of the mountain. That was the below ground mountain.
Matt Jones
Yeah. That wasn't even. That was a valid show. He was calling.
Jamie
He should have went with let pitching machines pitch for home run during.
Myron Metcalf
Actually, I like that one. That would have been a lot better. The pitching machine. When I actually think the pitching machine, when you had something there. The NASCAR one didn't work. Let's go to Jamie in Florida. Go Jamie. 30 seconds.
Jared
Hey, guys, I've been saying this for a long time. I think they should allow hockey fights in baseball. I think if a guy gets hit by a pitch, he's got the right to throw the bat down, meet the pitcher halfway, and they duke it out one on one till somebody falls down.
Myron Metcalf
Until somebody falls down. Falls down. Okay. All right. I appreciate that, Jamie. Thank you for the call. Do you like that, that agreement? You get to go one on one until someone falls down.
Matt Jones
I don't mind it. I mean, if it's an intentional pitch. Now that's the thing. If you tell me it's intentional, you know, a fight feels warranted. And hockey, they have a lot of protective gear though, too. Right?
Myron Metcalf
Even though. And the part of the thing is, you might fall because you lose your balance. Baseball, you might be hitting each other a while before somebody falls, you know.
Matt Jones
Well, I don't think. I don't know if I like that part. Remember Dolan Ryan was that fight he had years ago. Almost suffocated in the pile after his scrap. So you got to be careful about stuff like that.
Myron Metcalf
He almost suffocated. What are you talking about?
Matt Jones
The famous fight where he fight. Was it Dante, I believe.
Myron Metcalf
No, it was Robin Ventura.
Matt Jones
Robin Ventura charges him. Everyone piles up on him. Nolan Ryan is suffocating underneath the pile. Bo Jackson reaches in and grabs him.
Myron Metcalf
I don't think you're making that up.
Matt Jones
It's 100.
Myron Metcalf
You're making that his life. That is not true. That no one. Ryan almost suffocated. That is a wild tale. If I've.
Matt Jones
You can Google all you want.
Myron Metcalf
Google.
Matt Jones
Nolan Ryan gives Bo Jackson credit for saving his life.
Myron Metcalf
That's the most absurd thing I've ever heard. Okay. All right. By the way, you need to keep. Make sure that so we know who's up there. I got to see the names just for the people that used to be called before. It's okay. Jared. He's not going to be. I'm sorry. He's not going to be Jared in St. Louis. So leave. Whoever that last guy was, he's not going to win anyway. Robert in Raleigh, what's your 30 seconds real quick.
Jared
The real King of the Mountain is Matt Myron. For taking our cause. I'm going University of Connecticut the most. Dan Arlopski and all of ESPN is the only person that knows this. The most underrated college football coach is Jim Lawrence Mora. It's not Jim Moore Jr. 9 and 4 last year. With the way the schedule is working out, he could have an undefeated season. I know that sounds crazy. Before he got there, they were 4 and 36. He's been to two ball games.
Myron Metcalf
I'm sorry, man. This said you were going to talk about Danny early and you came on here and you had your chance and you talked about UConn football. And besides UConn football was your choice to go 9 and 4. UConn football.
Matt Jones
He was passionate though.
Myron Metcalf
I respect. I give him credit for his. And it was something that Jim Mora Jr. So he should have just gone playoffs. That's what he. That would have had a lot better chance to work. Brian in Boulder so far. Jared staying on King of the Mountain. Brian, go ahead.
Jared
All right. So. I can't believe you guys haven't seen this, but it's all over social media. Jerry Jones and Micah Parsons spotted a Coldplay on the Kiss cam. Jerry Jones was eloquently singing while gently embracing Micah Parsons. I will fix you expect to deal with in a couple days. Fellas, great to talk to you.
Matt Jones
I don't know what he's talking about.
Myron Metcalf
I mean, I could see he was trying to.
Jared
Yeah.
Myron Metcalf
I mean, yeah. Still, you're not. You're not going to take over Jared. I think I would take the UConn football call over that one, unfortunately.
Matt Jones
I don't know.
Myron Metcalf
Jordan in Texas. This is so far. Jared feels pretty comfortable on top. Jordan, go ahead.
Jared
Hey, what's up, guys? Hey. If I forget what I'm saying because I'm in Vegas, Myron, but listen. So Texas is going to be the championship state. Dallas Cowboys, Texas Longhorns, Dallas Mavericks. We're all winning champions this year. We're going to change the legacy down there in Dallas. I've seen it all on social media. Brian Schott. Drivers got them guys ready to play. We're ready to go. Off of art is going to be the slogan. Chris Chance, you're ready to go, baby. Love you guys.
Myron Metcalf
All right, well, that was again, I mean, it was passionate. At the same time, you didn't tell me why. And you said Dallas. And the University of Texas is in Austin. So I'm going to say that was better than some of the others. But still not Jared in St. Louis level yet.
Matt Jones
Myron, I think he was in Dallas for the Mavericks, right?
Myron Metcalf
I mean, you know, he said Mavericks, Texas. And he said, but Mavericks are Cowboys are not winning. Yeah, I said the Cowboys gonna win the title. Stop. All right. Coleman. Delaware. Coleman in Delaware. I only know two people from Delaware, Joe Biden and Chris Christie. So, Coleman, can you make it work?
Jared
Absolutely. Gentlemen, thanks for taking my call. Keep in mind, the hottest debate is not necessarily the truest or the falsest debate. It's the one that's most debatable. So here comes my sports is rigged because in sports there's entertainment and in all aspects of entertainment, there's choreography.
Myron Metcalf
Thank you, Coleman. Have you been smoking this morning? Coleman got up this morning and he chose. He chose some mellow something.
Jamie
It's a pretty hot take.
Matt Jones
He's that friend in the group chat that you just don't respond to. Like, he posts links about stuff, you know, and you just don't even respond. You just move on to a new conversation.
Myron Metcalf
This is the guy who's like, did you know Mountain Dew is made from cockroaches and you're like, what?
Matt Jones
You just don't acknowledge it. You just kind of talk about like it never happened, man.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah, that. That was the one. Yeah. Sorry, Coleman. I know freshman philosophy was fun. We're trying to stay. We're trying to stay on. On. On topic here, max. Jared. And St. Louis is our king. You're also in St. Louis. Can you take your city man down? Max, go ahead.
Jared
Sorry, guys. I'm still laughing about the choreography bit. Baseball just had a really great moment with the. The swing off and the All Star Game, and a lot of people are saying they should make that a regular season thing. I don't have a problem with it. I think it would be fun. But Tim Perchon just said the other day that if they did it, he would retire. Because I've been saying for years that baseball is anti fun. And now in this moment when it is fun and people.
Myron Metcalf
I don't dislike that one. And I think he. He didn't get to his point quick enough. He didn't get to the point, but I actually think. I think his point is good. Max, I'm going to say you lose to Jared, but you were close. That was the best one so far. Do you think there's any argument they should do a swing off at the. At the end like they did in the All Star Game for regular baseball games?
Matt Jones
It'd be fun, you know, it'd be what, the equivalent of like, what, an NHL shootout?
Myron Metcalf
Like penalty kicks and. Or shootout.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I'm with it. I mean, to me, the swing off in the Home Run Derby and the All Star Game was fun, and I think people enjoyed it for the most part. The baseball peers got to get over themselves.
Myron Metcalf
Did Tim Kirk really say he would retire? Because, Tim, that's a little bit of an overreaction, don't you think?
Matt Jones
People in our business are good for saying they'll retire. We just say that we don't. Nobody's retired.
Myron Metcalf
I mean, you're going to do if there's a swing. I thought it was awesome. The only thing I didn't like about the swing off is it told me that some of the players leave before the game's over. That's lame. Half the players had gone home. Did you know that was something that happened? That was.
Matt Jones
I didn't know that was a little.
Myron Metcalf
I feel like, dude, you. You're an awesome. You can stay till the end of the game. I thought that was all right. Brad in Missouri, you gonna be able to do it? So far, no one's taken out. Jared. Brad.
Jared
Hey. Golly geez. Columbia, Missouri, here, representing the hottest take right now is what you all just said earlier. Knowing Ryan sure as hell wasn't suffocating. He was too busy punching Ventura while he had him in the headlock. That boy wasn't on the bottom of the pile. Fake news.
Matt Jones
You. You all are completely wrong. Everything you are. Listen, everything you just said sounds good, but it's completely false. It's completely false. Everything I'm saying about Bo Jackson saving NOLAN Ryan is 100% real. 100%.
Myron Metcalf
I did like that. Brad, Missouri just said through a fake news. Fake news. Yeah. Is it true or not? James, is it true or not?
Jamie
I mean, Myron told me to Google it, and Google has told me, yes, Nolan Ryan stated he nearly suffocated during the infamous brawl with Robin Ventura. According to Ryan, while pinned at the bottom of the dog pile, he felt like he was going to black out when Bo Jackson pulled players off of him, saving him.
Myron Metcalf
I never had heard this.
Matt Jones
Apologies in order, please.
Jamie
Nolan Ryan said it himself. So.
Myron Metcalf
All right, well, yeah, I wouldn't have thought it was true, but. All right, you said it.
Matt Jones
Definitely not true. I think it was 100.
Myron Metcalf
I don't think. You acted like they had to resuscitate the guy. I think he was. I think he was. All right. All right, let's do one more.
Jamie
So far, no one's saying I think then Myron's right.
Myron Metcalf
We all know fine. He's partially right. All right, so. So no one is taking out Jared yet. Let's look at these. I got four people over here. Which one do I think would have the best chance of taking out Jared? Let's. Let's do Cole in Tennessee. Let's see if he can do it. Cole in Tennessee, this is your last shot to take down the king. Go ahead.
Jared
Kickball rules in baseball. If you be a baserunner with the ball, they're out.
Myron Metcalf
Okay, so you want people to just, like, throw the balls and hit the people in the ribs.
Matt Jones
You said you do that, you're out.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah, I think that's a terrible take. I appreciate the call. I should not have used you as the final one.
Matt Jones
No, he's saying, a batter, I'm with getting out. If you hit a batter, you're out is what he's saying.
Myron Metcalf
No, you hit a. He's saying instead of throwing the ball to first base, you should throw the ball at the player.
Matt Jones
No, no, don't do it. No, that's terrible. That's terrible. No.
Myron Metcalf
You were just ready to agree with that.
Matt Jones
I thought he was saying a pitcher hitting the guy with a ball, the pitcher's out. No, no, you shouldn't use the baseball.
Myron Metcalf
I think the pitcher should be out. If they hit him off.
Matt Jones
Yeah, if they hit a base.
Myron Metcalf
All right. Well, so far. So Jared, you're going to survive. He's going to remain king of the mountain for another week. Jared is our first person to make two straight weeks. Is the King Jared in St. Louis, no one was able to knock off the king. Jared, congratulations. If you're listening, you move on to another week like Ken Jennings in Jeopardy. But of hot takes. We'll do it again next week. More here on Matt Myon on ESPN Radio.

Marty Smith
In his postseason career where Lamar Jackson was great.
Matt Jones
Camp to camp, team to team 46 days until opening night.
Myron Metcalf
I just want to.
Matt Jones
The countdown continues on ESPN Radio.
Myron Metcalf
That was an exciting little intro they did before this song that was very. Getting me excited. It is Sunday morning, it is Matt, and it is Myron here on ESPN Radio, presented by Progressive Insurance. This is. This is another one of those.
Matt Jones
Green Day.
Myron Metcalf
This is not Green Day. Don't tell me yet. This is like another one of those crappy 90s bands. Incendy. What is it?
Jamie
It's Incubus.
Myron Metcalf
Incubus, okay. Yeah. This is when Incubus shows their sensitive side or songs like this. ESPN put out their annual ranking of the top 10 position players. They started with quarterbacks. They asked coaches, executives and scouts. And I'm going to read you the top 10, Myron. And when you hear this top 10, where what sticks out to you? Number one is Patrick Bones, number two is Josh Allen. Then Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson, Jaden Daniels comes in at number five. Matthew Stafford, Justin Herbert, Jared Goff, Jalen Hurts. And then Baker Mayfield rounds out the top 10. Are you. What do you think of that list?
Matt Jones
I mean, surprised by a couple of names in terms of where they are. I think Lamar fourth. You know, I mean, the top four are the top four. Right. So you can probably move that around however you want. But I would think he might be.
Myron Metcalf
You put him ahead of Burrow or Allen. I can't.
Matt Jones
I mean, it's. Again, they all have great. The MVPs, to me, is what separates him from those other guys who are behind him. But Jaden Daniels at 5, I think it's too early. We did this with CJ Shroud a year ago.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Everybody said CJ Stroud was the next thing in the NFL and that he was going to be this phenom for years to come. And then last year he was good, but he wasn't at that level. So I think Jay Nano's is going to be in the conversation with another strong year. You can't put the guy who beat my homes in the super bowl, destroyed my homes in the super bowl, and probably should have two wins over him in the super bowl as number nine behind a bunch of guys who don't have anything like that. So I think you got to put Jalen Hurts in your top five or six, at least.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah, I'm totally with you. What sticks out to me is I think Jaden Daniel's a little high at 5, but I think the biggest omission is Jalen Hurts at nine. I mean, he can't be. Not like you can't look at me in the eye and say, you take Jared Goff over. Jalen Hurts. You just can't. I mean, like, you can't. I think, I don't think you can put Justin Herbert over him. When you get to number six with Matthew Stafford, you know, maybe, maybe not. I think that one's closer, but I, I. You just can't put him there. I also don't know. I mean, C.J. stroud, you mentioned him. I got to put him ahead of Baker Mayfield. I mean, no, I like Baker Mayfield, but CJ Stroud, at his top moment, I think I'm going to put ahead of him. But that's not egregious to me. The egregious ones. Jalen hurts ninth. I think he's got to be at least seventh, maybe six, maybe even fifth, maybe ahead of Jaden Daniels. Jaden Daniels is too high. If it were me, I like Mahomes, Allen, Burrow, Jackson in that order, I could be convinced to put Jackson ahead of Burrow, at which point I would go, Mahomes, Allen, Jackson, Burrow. I'd probably put Stafford fifth, Jalen hurts sixth. And then, you know, the rest of them. Put them in the order that you like, I think. But I just don't know how you can put Jalen Hurts ninth when he wins the Super Bowl.
Matt Jones
Yeah, again, they crushed the Kansas City, and then again, you know, you can look back at that first encounter they had, and he had a chance to beat Kansas City in the first opportunity in the Super Bowl. I think this list also shows that Kyle Shanahan gets way too much credit, I think, as a quarterback guru, because Brock Purdy has to be on this list. In my opinion. There are a lot of people who say, okay, he's not this, he's not that. Show me the quarterbacks who've won the way that he's won over the last three years. Show me the quarterbacks who have the efficiency, who have the accuracy over the last three years. There aren't many who can match that. So I think it's unfair to me that Brock Purdy just gets left off these lists when. If it's about wins, if it's about efficiency, he's over a bunch of guys in the. On this list.
Myron Metcalf
That's interesting. Now, I wouldn't put Brock Purdy there, but I think I can see your argument. If you want to hear the worst argument, here's what Christopher Russo, Mad Dog said.
Marty Smith
Now, I put Stopper over the morning. I'm going to tell you why. Okay, name me the game to get Super Bowls. Name me the game. In his postseason career with Lamar Jackson was great. Name me that game. The last two games that he lost in the postseason against Detroit two years ago, he was superb in the game they lost to the Lions and last year against the Eagles, he was great in the game.
Jared
I was gonna say I wasn't wrong.
Marty Smith
He brought him back down the field. The center made the mistake on the blitz. Stafford was tremendous, tremendous in the game. Plus he's won a championship. Lamar has won three playoff games. So here it is. Stafford, who has been heroic in losses and won a Super bowl, and Lamar's won three playoff games, was not great against Buffalo, was awful against Tennessee and was awful against the Chiefs. So you guys are going to put Lamar Jackson over a guy who's won a Super bowl and it's been great in losses. That is not fair.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah, Chris Russo needs to like take a nap if you're going to come out here and try to tell me that staff, I mean, Stafford, there are a lot of losses he did. You just are forgetting about them. But I just thought it would be nice to play a horrible take before we go to break just so people know it's time to go to Delaware. Yes, that is a sentence. Next on Matt Myron, Matt and Myron.
Matt Jones
The pod.
Myron Metcalf
Foreign.
Matt Jones
Hey guys, it's Ceedee Lamb, wide receiver for the Dallas Cowboys. I'm partnering with Abercrombie this season to tell you all about their viral denim. This episode is brought to you by.
Matt Jones
State Farm Insurance may all seem the same on the surface, but having insurance.
Jared
Isn'T the same as having State Farm.
Matt Jones
It's like getting a speech from your.
Jared
Third cousin's plus one at your wedding.
Matt Jones
When you needed a speech from your best man, you wouldn't settle for just any speech. So don't settle for just any insurance. When it comes to getting the help you need, State Farm is the real deal. Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there.
Myron Metcalf
Sunday morning Matt Myron on ESPN Radio. That's one of the things Myron Coldplay took Oasis out of the news, right, like they were doing their whole reunion tours. Now the other moody British band text takes them out of the news with the couple there.
Matt Jones
Yeah. You know my favorite Oasis story.
Myron Metcalf
Well, we got a guest. Can you.
Matt Jones
Do we have now?
Myron Metcalf
Yeah, we got Marty Smith. Oh, no, he's not on. So then tell yourself not on yet.
Matt Jones
That's what I'm saying. The lead single, Voices, Jay Z was hosting this big. He was leading this big rock festival in Europe. And the Oasis guy said a rapper shouldn't leave this big rock festival. So Jay Z comes out the next day with a guitar and sings this song and like the whole crowd is singing with him. It just like changed the whole vibe. It was pretty, pretty cool.
Myron Metcalf
That's good. All right, well, Marty Smith now is on. He is in Dover, Delaware for the Monster Mile race. As part of Sports Center's 50 States in 50 Days. He's doing Delaware. Marty, I hear the weather is nice.
Jared
Let me tell you something, son. First of all, it's great to be with you, too. You are two great Americans.
Myron Metcalf
Thank you.
Jared
It is. It is beyond measure. It is so hot. And I started the day opening Sports center by climbing up into this monument that they have outside the racetrack called Miles the Monster.
Myron Metcalf
Oh, yeah, that thing's awesome. Yeah.
Jared
Is 50ft above the earth. And I had to climb through all this scaffolding and whatnot. And then in order to get all the way up into the top of this thing, there's a race car. The Miles the Monster is holding a full size race car in its hand. That's how big this thing is. Okay. I climbed. You have to climb up this chute and it's these very thin, very dark. It's almost climbing up into a silo. For any of y' all who are farmers, you got to go like straight up in this tube, right? And it was pitch black. And I don't love heights, but I, you know, I'm an athlete. So I went on up there and it was about 386 degrees in there, but we had a great time. And then on the way back down after the show open, I managed to hit my arm on some scaffolding. And I'm not sure if I need a tourniquet, but it's somewhere in there. I definitely need some hydrogen peroxide.
Matt Jones
My goodness.
Myron Metcalf
I don't want it to ruin your suit as well. That's. Well, I got. I want to ask you about something coming up because I think you're going to be there, but let's start with. With Delaware. You know, people don't know anything about Delaware because it's like maybe the most boring state I mean, you got what, Joe Biden, Elena Della Don, and then Joe Flacco. And Joe Flacco. That's exactly right. So there's my three Delaware people. That's really it.
Jared
But Dover earlier. Maddie, we're on the same page here. But.
Myron Metcalf
But that's awesome. So I didn't know. I did. I'm not even stealing it from you. So between besides those three people, the Dover racetrack, that race, the Monster Mile, is one I've, you know, known since I was a kid. So tell people. That's probably the biggest sporting event in Delaware, what it's like.
Jared
It's definitely, definitely up there. And you know, hence why, hence why we're here for the 50 states and 50 days extravaganza on SportsCenter. And yeah, it's. I have a lot of. It was weird walking back in there, man. Walking back in here because I had not been here in. I don't even know. I was trying to figure it out. Probably 10, 12, 15 years. I mean, I quit covering NASCAR full time in 2014. So that's at least 10 years, 11 years ago. And all these memories came back. I've seen amazing races here. I've seen guys do super superhuman things here. And it's such a technical, difficult racetrack and demands so much of the drivers that they. It's a love hate relationship. Very thin, very fast racetrack. And so if anybody gets out of shape, it can be a huge wreck. But they, they built this beach, they built Miles beach out here in the Midway near that Monster I was telling you about. And the reason they did that is this is the first July race in Dover since the opening race here in 1969, which was won by the King Richard Petty. And so they're trying to embrace this, like, beach theme. And I went out there and hung out with some hillbillies. That was pretty awesome. But this is the coolest thing I got to do today. Now, we interviewed Denny Hamlin on the show. He's won here twice. He's won Daytona 500 three times. Of course, he's currently in litigation against NASCAR. He and Michael Jordan are suing NASCAR, so interviewed him about all kinds of things, including that interview Chase Elliott, who's won here twice as well. Joey Logano put me in a Ford Mustang and ripped me around that thing on the pace laps. And I've done a few pace car rides before, but that one was very unique because one thing that makes this place so, so different is when you're hauling ass off into turn one and turn three. Those guys are going about 160 mile an hour or so. And then they drop. There's this drop as you enter the apex of the corner and you drop two stories and then coming back out of turn two and four, you go back up those two stories. And so it's a really weird sensation to, to ride around the racetrack. But quickly, let me tell about the coolest thing I did. You guys will love this. So the Dover Air Force Base is right down the street. And so we did this live shot highlighting our wonderful military. And I was walking around this display they had. And there were these young kids, I mean, beautiful young kids who were in the Air Force. And they had this robot. And it was on, it was on like tracks. And I was like, what is this thing? And it was. They were the Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit. The EOD guys take that robot into really bad places and remove really bad things so that human beings don't have to do it. Well, like hurt like they gave, yeah, they gave me the controls to this robot and I was able to deliver a cold beer to this good old boy wearing American flag bibs. And that was the highlight of my day so far.
Myron Metcalf
That's what that technology was. That's what they hope they use it for, Myron, when they do, when they invented it, I think.
Jared
I'm sure that all of our four star generals are very impressed by that. Making pancakes for the kids this morning.
Matt Jones
They probably tried some of that stuff too. When you got in the car with Joey, how hot was it in there? I mean, you said it's scorching out there. Like what did it feel like to be in there?
Jared
So it wasn't comfortable because in order to get the shot, I mean, you guys have both done plenty of tv. In order to get the camera angle we needed, my camera guy had to sit in the passenger seat. Joey was in the driver's seat. And I was sitting behind Joey in a hatchback Ford Mustang. You can imagine how much room I had.
Myron Metcalf
Oh my goodness. And you're not, you're not living.
Jared
So it wasn't the most comfortable I've ever been, but. And it was, it was hot. But I bet you since then we did that at 9 o' clock this morning. My guess is it's 25, 30 degrees hotter now. And I was talking to Chase Elliott about this on TV just a little while ago. These guys, they have to hydrate so much. Basically, if they're not peeing every 10 minutes before the race starts, they're already behind in their hydration. They can lose 10. They will lose 10 pounds today.
Myron Metcalf
I don't think people realize how hot. I mean, the drivers is a whole nother level. But the combination of the heat up there and then all that concrete, Marty, I got to think, also makes it like suffocatingly hot. That's. I mean, I would think that Dover in July in that mile closed track has got to be one of the.
Jared
Hottest places on earth right now. The way that I feel and I'm on my third shirt. I don't disagree with you, Maddie, but I think that like this, this event is so important to this state. And it was a little dicey for a while because the crowds were very sparse. And then Marcus Smith and the guys at Speedway Motorsports bought the racetrack. They put tons of infrastructure and capital improvements into the place. And today is going to be incredible. I mean, the Kobe Dean's here, Philadelphia Eagles linebacker who won, you know, the national title and the buckets award for Kirby smart data. Georgia Jihad Campbell is here. Just drafted out of Alabama by the Eagles. Howie Roseman got really smart. He said, you know what I'll do? I'm gonna draft the SEC because by God, they're ready to play NFL football.
Myron Metcalf
I like it. Marty's an SEC guy. Well, let me ask you before you go. I'm. I'm excited you're going to be there in two weeks, I think at the Bristol Motor Speedway when my Reds play your Braves in the game at the track. I've seen pictures of the baseball stadium that's going to be there. It looks like it's going to be awesome. I know you've been to Bristol a million times. How excited are you about that?
Jared
So excited. And you know, of course they, they held the battle at Bristol there in 2016 when the Tennessee Volunteers beat my Virginia Tech Hokies. And that in and of itself was just such a visual spectacle to see a football stadium in there and now to see a baseball stadium in there and the Reds and the Braves. I just, I can't wait to get there and visualize it with my own eyes. I've seen all the renderings. They continually. The folks at the racetrack and Major league Baseball are sending us updates as to the progress of putting the field in and the infrastructure in. And it's aggressive. I mean, it's a very aggressive undertaking. But why not? I mean, this is just why not. I think it's going to be so, so fun to watch. And did y' all see that throw Ronald Acuya made? Acuna made the other night?
Myron Metcalf
The Greatest ever.
Matt Jones
Was that the greatest ever?
Myron Metcalf
Martin all time.
Jared
I was just, you know, Chase Elliott. Going back to him, he's a, he's a born and, born and raised Georgia boy. He's a huge dog and he's a Brave. Goes to Braves games all the time. He's a huge Braves fan. I asked him on the, on the, on Sports center, what did, what was your reaction to that? And he goes, dude, I thought he was thrown into the cutoff man because it looks so lackadaisical almost. It didn't even look like he tried. And that thing was an absolute dart. It reminds me of. I know Vlad Guerrero when he was with the Expos. He had some incredible throw like that. And of course, Bose bow, he had several of those, but it was one of the greatest throws in the history of the game.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah, it's. It is. I want you to also take a minute when you're there and meet my guy, Ellie De La Cruz with the Reds. I mean, he's obviously great and he's. But he's also the coolest guy. I think you'd really like him, Marty, and I, I'd love to hear your, your thoughts on him. He, he's going to be a massive superstar in Major League Baseball. Already becoming one, but I think you're going to like him.
Jared
Yeah, I look forward to it. And you know this man, you guys, you're both storytellers for me, the greatest joy. We're so blessed to have these jobs in the first place. Right? We, we all three know that. And everybody in this business, if they don't know that, they probably need to tighten it up a little bit.
Matt Jones
Bit.
Jared
If they've lost that, it's such an incredible blessing. And my favorite, most fulfilling, joyful part of it is the relationships built with the people. And so I'm so excited to get there and meet a lot of those people, including Ellie. I've been a fan of his forever. The joy with which he plays the game is infectious.
Myron Metcalf
Yes, it really is. And you know, his sister just passed away a few weeks ago and the.
Jared
Way I didn't know that.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah, his sister passed away and like he, he, like he grew up with, in the Dominican and he had, he's had to deal with that and it's, it's, it's just a. He's a great kid and I, I'm excited for you to get to meet him. Look forward to it.
Jared
Well, thank you. I'll make sure I seek him out. All right.
Myron Metcalf
Well, Marty is in Dover, Delaware. Try to be a little. Try not to sweat too much and enjoy the monster. Mom.
Jared
Yes, sir. You know, I'm gonna go over here to Wawa.
Myron Metcalf
Oh, that's how you know you're up there. Let's go to the Wawa. Smith. Thank you very much. Have you ever been to Delaware, Myron, for anything?
Matt Jones
I don't, I don't think, I think that's one of the few states I have not visited.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah, the Blue Hens, Kentucky. Kentucky played Delaware in the Sweet sixteen when Elena Della Don was there. The women's game, I went to it. And Chris Christie, who was the governor of New Jersey but went to Delaware, he was at the game and he was sitting close to me and I said, hello, Governor Christie. And you know what he did? He just handed me an Oreo and he said, would you like an Oreo? And I had to say I had to respect a man who came to a basketball game with his own Oreos because the arena did not sell Oreos.
Matt Jones
If he's been campaigning like that, that might explain something.
Myron Metcalf
But you just gotta love a man who's just taking Oreos wherever he goes.
Matt Jones
Like I'm gonna try, man.
Myron Metcalf
You know what? I took an Oreo. I usually don't take strangers Oreos. I took a stranger's Oreo. Then it's time to take your pick. We will finish up with all the picks for the game. That's next year on Sunday Morning, Matt.
Matt Jones
Myron, Matt and Myron. The podcast.
Myron Metcalf
Not all meals are created equal. For instance, breakfast has a spicy egg McMuffin for a limited time and lunch doesn't. McDonald's breakfast comes first.
Matt Jones
Gatorade is the number one proven electrolyte blend designed to hydrate better than water so you can lose more sweat and raise your game. Gatorade is it in you?
Myron Metcalf
Sunday morning here on ESPN Radio presented by Progressive Insurance. I got a show for you if you would like a new show vibe check every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 5 Eastern on Disney Plus. L getting a little spicy up in there with L with another letter of the Alphabet trying to be a little spicy. So I enjoyed it.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Yeah, that was fun. They Were having fun last night and I don't know, we can say the name of the social media stream that everybody. Why can't we. Talking about.
Myron Metcalf
Why can't we say it? Stud buds, right?
Matt Jones
Yeah. Stud Buzz was. Was the best thing that happened this weekend.
Myron Metcalf
If people don't know, there's Courtney Williams. Courtney Williams. What's the other one's name you said?
Matt Jones
Natasha Heideman.
Myron Metcalf
And they call themselves stud buds and they live streamed their whole weekend and it got very popular on Twitch. People were very excited. Stud buds.
Matt Jones
Yeah. No, huge. And they streamed everything, went to parties, clubs, I mean that was fun.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah, everything. Everywhere they went. So it was cool stuff. All right, it's now time to make our predictions for the games today. It's called take your pick.
Marty Smith
Take your pick.
Matt Jones
You take your pick. It's time to take your pick on Sunday morning.
Myron Metcalf
All right, let's go for it. What's up first?
Jamie
Yeah, lots of baseball today. Yankees at braves. Braves are minus 130 on the money line. Who you got here?
Myron Metcalf
Braves were up six nothing last night and ended up losing 12, eight. They blew it. Yankees going to get hot. I'll take the Yankees on the road to get the win.
Matt Jones
Myron, I don't think Ronald Acuna Jr. Is human after what I saw the other night from him. And I'm going to pick the Braves just because of that.
Myron Metcalf
All right, what's next?
Jamie
All right, up next, the Reds and the Mets. That's your team. Mets are the slight favorites today. Minus 135 on ESPN. Bet who you guys got here?
Myron Metcalf
The Reds have already won the series against the best home record team in baseball. They won the first two today. They're pitching Andrew Abbott. You know what, Reds fans? What we call Andrew Abbott? Fat Damon because he looks like. Because he looks a little bit like a chubby Matt Damon. Fat Damon's an all star to a point zero era. Fat Damon gets the win. I'm taking the Reds.
Matt Jones
If you got a dude on your roster named Fat Damon, I'm gonna pick that. I'm gonna pick you too, because that's the greatest. Nobody has nicknames like baseball. Baseball has the best nicknames. Well, I don't know all the sports.
Myron Metcalf
Let me just be clear. I call him Fat David. I don't know that there's anybody else that calls him that. I just call him Fat David.
Matt Jones
I feel like it's the one sport where like whatever people called you when you were nine, that's what they call you for the rest of your life in baseball.
Myron Metcalf
And Rabbit's an all Star. He's good. What's next?
Jamie
The rent sox are minus 135 on the money line. Visiting the Cubs today. Who you got here?
Myron Metcalf
The Cubs never lose. I think they'll win again. Like, they got the best record in baseball now. Myron. I'll take the Cubbies.
Matt Jones
Yeah, no, I mean, I'll take the Cubs as well, man. Obviously been playing great. And I think they get the win at home against the Red Sox next.
Jamie
All right, the Astros are visiting the Mariners. The Mariners are minus 145 on ESPN. Ben, on the money line, who you got here?
Myron Metcalf
I haven't thought about either of these teams except to say Cal Raleigh. But I like to say his name, and he's been the best player in baseball this year. So give me Cal Riley and the Mariners to win at home in Seattle.
Matt Jones
I'll take the Mariners for the same reason. Cal Riley. Let's put some respect on his name. I feel like Aaron. Aaron Judge has the advantage being in pinstripes, also having a great season. But Cal Riley is chasing history right now. I think you got to give him credit. Give me the Mariners.
Jamie
One of one of the best nicknames in baseball. To the Big Dumper Brewers.
Matt Jones
Yeah, that's a great nickname.
Myron Metcalf
No, fat.
Matt Jones
Very baseball nickname.
Jamie
The Big Dumper brewers at Dodgers. Dodgers are minus 155 on the money line. Who you got here?
Myron Metcalf
The Dodgers might get swept at home by the brewers, which is kind of crazy. I don't think it's going to happen, though. The Dodgers are going to avoid the sweep. They'll win one tonight. Give me LA at home.
Matt Jones
Give me my Milwaukee brewers to go and get the sweep against the Dodgers, who. I don't know who's pitching for them anymore. Everybody's hurt. But I like the brewers to get this win and get a big confidence boost here.
Jamie
Kershaw on the mound for the Dodgers.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah, you've heard of him. He's pretty good.
Jamie
Big time. Big time pitching matchup on Sunday Night Baseball, which you can hear right here on ESPN Radio. Coverage starts at 6pm Eastern. The Tigers have Tarek Scuba on the mound 10. 3. 2.23 ERA. They visit the Rangers, who have Nathan Eoh on the body 7 and 3 with a 1.58 ERA. Who do you got here, guys?
Myron Metcalf
That's a pretty. This is. You're not going to get a better pitching matchup than this. This is two of the guys who've been pitching the best in the American League. You know what? I'll take School ball. He didn't have a great outing last time, but I think he comes back and gets it done. Give me the Tigers to win on the road.
Matt Jones
So when I first saw his name, I thought it was Tariq. And then I saw his photo and I was like, oh, it's Tarek. So it got a little confusing for me. Just a, just a random thought I had. Like, when I saw the name, I was like, we got another one. That's what I thought. But then I saw the picture and realized we didn't. But not Terry. Scuba's been playing some of the best baseball in all of the major leagues, and I think he'll get another big win today.
Myron Metcalf
Give me two on my Reds, by the way, Hunter Green and Chase Burns. You should adopt the Reds as your, as your team for pitching.
Matt Jones
I couldn't. I couldn't handle that. It would be a lot to do this show.
Myron Metcalf
What's next?
Jamie
All right, one last one. NASCAR Cup Series at Dover. We just talked to Marty Smith about it. Kyle Larson, Denny Hamlin, who won previously, Chase Elliott, William Byron, Kyle Busch, Joey Logano, all in the field. Who do you. Who do you got here?
Myron Metcalf
I'm going to take Chase Elliot. He drove Marty around this morning in a Ford Mustang. That's going to give him all the insight he needs. I'm going to take Chase Elliott to win at the Monster Mile.
Matt Jones
I like William Byron. I think that car has been running well. It's gonna come down to who's got.
Myron Metcalf
The stamina, how you hit the turn. You wouldn't know the difference between William Byron.
Matt Jones
You gotta be in sync with your car. You gotta be in sync with your car. How much, how much juice you got on the curve. And I think he's proven that he has a lot down the stretch we do in the racing community.
Jamie
It's great.
Matt Jones
You may not know Will Byron.
Myron Metcalf
Game day is next with Will Byron and Jonathan Zaslow Sunday morning on ESPN Radio.
Matt Jones
Thanks for listening to Matt and Myron the podcast. You can listen to the show live every Sunday morning at 10am Eastern on ESPN Radio, the ESPN app, and on SiriusXM Channel 80. Matt and Myron the pod.
Jared
You've seen the headlines, heard the debates.
Myron Metcalf
Some say the three point ball has created a monotonous rhythm to the game.
Jared
Has the three pointer ruined basketball?
Myron Metcalf
And how did we get here?
Jared
The rise of the three point shot can be partially traced to an eccentric.
Myron Metcalf
Kansas genius name Martin Manley, whose story didn't turn out quite the way he imagined. I decided I wanted to have one of the most organized goodbyes in history, and I think I will be successful.

Sunday Mornings with Matt and Myron: Hour 3 - "Hot in Dover"
Episode Overview Released on July 20, 2025, "Hour 3: Hot in Dover" of Sunday Mornings with Matt and Myron delves deep into the vibrant world of sports, blending spirited discussions, engaging listener interactions, and insightful commentary. Hosts Matt Jones and Myron Medcalf navigate through exciting segments, including the popular "King of the Mountain" game, ESPN's quarterback rankings, and game predictions, all while featuring a special on the Dover Monster Mile race.
The episode kicks off with Matt and Myron introducing the "King of the Mountain" game, a segment that has rapidly gained popularity. In this game, listeners have 30 seconds to present their "hottest take" on any sports topic. The reigning champion, Jared from St. Louis, successfully defended his title against several challengers.
Jared's Hot Take on Mike Tomlin (01:22) Jared critiques Mike Tomlin's Hall of Fame prospects, arguing:
"I don't understand why everybody's on Mike Tomlin's first Hall of guy. ... He's three and nine in the playoffs in 14 years."
This bold stance establishes Jared as a formidable contender in the game, prompting other listeners to attempt to dethrone him.
Attempts to Challenge Jared's Reign Several callers step up with their takes, though none manage to surpass Jared's argument:
Brad from North Carolina (03:00) suggests overhauling the NASCAR points system, comparing it to golf:
"Why don't they just do it like golf? If you win, you get one. If you lose, you get 40."
Jamie from Florida (04:10) proposes allowing hockey-style fights in baseball, sparking a lively debate:
"I think they should allow hockey fights in baseball. ... they duke it out one on one till somebody falls down."
Matt and Myron engage with the callers, offering both agreement and playful criticism, such as Matt's humorous disbelief over Jamie's proposal (05:26).
Despite these spirited attempts, Jared remains unchallenged, solidifying his position as the "King of the Mountain."
Jared's Second Hot Take (06:02) Jared emphasizes college football, claiming:
"The most underrated college football coach is Jim Lawrence Mora. ... With the way the schedule is working out, he could have an undefeated season."
This assertion not only showcases Jared's passion but also raises the stakes for future challengers.
A significant portion of the episode focuses on ESPN Radio's annual quarterback rankings. Myron reads out the top 10, prompting a critical analysis from both hosts.
Top 10 Quarterbacks as per ESPN:
Matt's Perspective (18:14) Matt expresses surprise at certain placements, especially Lamar Jackson at fourth and Jaden Daniels at fifth. He argues for Jalen Hurts to be ranked higher due to his Super Bowl performance:
"I think the biggest omission is Jalen Hurts at nine. ... you can't put Jalen Hurts ninth when he wins the Super Bowl."
Myron's Agreement and Additional Critique (19:15) Myron concurs, highlighting the necessity of recognizing Hurts' accomplishments:
"You just can't put him there. I mean, like, you can't. ... He wins the Super Bowl."
Both hosts emphasize the importance of considering postseason success and overall performance consistency in rankings, suggesting adjustments to better reflect these factors.
The trio transitions into the "Take Your Pick" segment, where Matt, Myron, and guest Jamie predict outcomes for various sports events.

Yankees vs. Braves
Reds vs. Mets
Red Sox vs. Cubs
Astros vs. Mariners

Marty's Experience and Highlights (25:04) Marty recounts his adventurous day climbing the 50-foot "Miles the Monster" monument at the Dover racetrack:
"I climbed up into the top of this thing, ... had to climb through all this scaffolding ... it was pitch black."
He describes the intense racing conditions and shares memorable interactions with NASCAR stars like Denny Hamlin and Joey Logano, including a thrilling pace car ride:
"Joey Logano put me in a Ford Mustang and ripped me around that thing on the pace laps."

"His sister just passed away... he's had to deal with that and it's just a. He's a great kid."
The interview underscores the interconnectedness of different sports and the personal stories that enrich the sporting narrative.
As the episode draws to a close, Matt and Myron engage in light-hearted banter, reflecting on memorable moments and teasing future topics. They emphasize the importance of relationships and shared experiences in the sports industry:
